My journey on dropping games.
2024.05.17 08:10 Electronic-Camp-3157 My journey on dropping games.
Well, I think it's the right time for me to say how it helped me to stop playing video games compulsively. I want those who are struggling to know that it is possible, and those who feel they are falling into this cycle to be careful. Going back to when I was 9 years old, I was already playing video games, but it was very controlled by my parents, it was just a very small hobby. At that time, my parents got divorced due to some strange circumstances, and me, my sisters and my mother were very shocked by the event. Without my parents to make sure that I was doing well in my life, I started to play many more hours than I should, sometimes I would wake up playing even if I had to go to school the next day.
My grades were dropping and my mother was concerned, but she couldn't figure out what it was because she was dealing with the separation. Subconsciously, I was dealing with the emotional stuff by playing games, not realizing it wasn't healthy. For the first few years everything felt normal, but then I realized something wasn't right, everyone was further along, more mature and fine, but not me, I suffered from daily anxiety and moodiness. I was neglecting myself and my relationships.
The breaking point was when I got my first job and realized how incredibly distracted and out of it I was. I remembered absolutely nothing of what I was told or taught. I was fired, and what the manager said to me was, "I'm sorry, you're too slow and clumsy to work". It was such a simple job, but it completely destroyed my self-esteem. A former co-worker literally told me to take control of my life, and that's what I did. I gave away all my games and consoles to get better. I started by taking care of my hygiene and diet, I gave up junk food and started taking care of my image. I joined a gym (I learnt to replace fast dopamine with healthy dopamine) while going to therapy, started watching what I ate. I got 8 hours of sleep (THE MOST RADICAL CHANGE OF MY LIFE) and I started doing mental and memory exercises.
After 3 months of draining all the malice, I started to enjoy the little things more, to laugh more, to learn, I learned to love my environment and the people who are in it or not. It has been a year since I left the vice and I managed to set goals and objectives, I significantly improved my English level and I was able to enter college. Today at 20 years old, I feel more satisfied with the person I am and I know I will be even better.
Remember that games are not bad, excess is bad.
Keep up the good work and to those of you who are reading this, thank you so much and be strong.

2024.05.17 07:23 mythos2468 Ranking Every Course I've Ever Taken at Cornell
Just took my last final ever (yay) and I'm bored so I'm just gonna rank all the courses I've taken here and share it lmao.
I'm gonna rank them in order (mostly), sorted by tiers, S being the highest and F the lowest.
S TIER
- MUSIC 1701: This is my favorite class since day 1. My specific section was on film music, and it was the only class I actually looked forward to during Zoom University. Great experience, but probably limited to my one specific section.
- CS 4780: At first, I did not buy into the ML hype. Pure cope on my part. This class is great. Very challenging, but in an intellectually stimulating way and not a "god damn I want to end it all tonight" klind of way. My only regret is not taking it in the spring with Killian.
- CS 3410: Had a great time with this one. Projects were pretty enjoyable to complete, all things considered. Bracey was a great lecturer, and it's too bad she will not be teaching this again. Truly an experience.
- PSYCH 3310/HD 3300: Honestly, I had no idea what to expect with this class, I had zero psych background and just thought it was interested. Absolutely terrific course. Interesting material, well taught, not too difficult, just great all around.
A TIER
- CS 4411: I feel like I learned more about OS from this than I did from OS itself lmao. I liked the projects, challenging in a good way.
- ENGRI 1101: Took this was Professor Schalekamp the goat. A great class that was well taught. If I ever thought about being an ORIE major, this was probably why.
- MATH 3360: Best math course I ever took at this school. Taught by a great professor (at least when I took it, no idea if it rotates), and it was a great introduction to higher-level algebra.
- CS 4410: Great c;lass with very interesting and useful information. RVR is great. I have beef with Harmony. That is all.
- HD 3290: This course is this high solely because it was so easy. 2 papers, 2 online open notes exams, and weekly journal assignments. I submitted exam 2 4 days ago and I literally don't remember a single thing already.
- CLASS 2604: I took this class so long ago that I don't really remember the details, and I took it in the winter, but antiquity is my favorite period of history by far. Mythology was interesting. Got to read the Odyssey, that was cool.
- ENGL 2810 (I think 2800 is the Fall code?): Pretty easy course, just prose and poetry. It was chill and that was enough.
- HIST 2159: This was a class about presenting the Tanakh as history. It was basically a history of ancient Israel at that point. Intersting course though, but I hated writing papers for it lol.
B TIER
- CS 2800: I like math. Discrete math good. About it.
- CS 1110: Another Zoom University winner. Professor White is great, and this was a very good introductory course.
- CS 2110: Gries the goat (RIP). Good class on data structures and algorithms, what more can a simple CS major want.
- CS 3110: I don't think I intentionally put the PL courses in order, but it's pretty accurate to how I feel about them tbh. Professor Clarkson is great at what he does, no doubt. I just did not like the course content. The final project was fun though.
- PSYCH 1101: I don't know how this is an easy A course. It was not an easy A course. Interesting content though.
- CS 2024: I remember absolutely nothing about this class except that it was very easy.
- CS 4820: I am indifferent on algo. It was good, but also, I feel nothing. Probably just the final I just took talking though.
- CS 2850 (There's like 3 different other names for networks I'm not looking them up bro): This class was okay, I guess. Don't really remember anything about it except Game Theory.
- MATH 2940: I enjoy linear algebra, but I feel like all of the engineering math classes are lacking. This class just kind of exists and it's just something engineers have to take.
- MATH 2930: It was good when I took it, but from what everyone says its bad now, I guess. Then again, no one has complained this semester, so maybe it's all okay now.
C TIER
- ENGRD 2300: I have no idea how this course is when taught by someone else, but I took it with Helbling. Such a poorly taught class, my god. The labs were kinda cool I guess, but for the most part they were just annoying. At least it counted as ENGRD credit.
- MATH 1920: This class crushed my soul in Zoom University. Multi will live on in my nightmares forever.
- PHYS 1112: I just don't really like physics. That is all.
- PSYCH 3800: I took this course this summer and all I remember are the words "Actor-Observer effect." It was pretty easy though, so it had that going for it.
- MATH 4710: Probability theory has been crushing my soul since Algebra 2, and it continued to do so in this course. It was ok, but probably should've taken another probability course.
- MEDVL 1103: I genuinely don't remember a single thing about this class. I have no feelings about it. I feel nothing. I wrote some papers about fairy tales and got a grade.
- CS 4320: This class makes me sad because the material is very useful, but it's just taught so badly that it makes me hate it. At least I kind of know SQL now, I guess.
- ENGRC 3500: This was the biggest waste of time class in the entire engineering curriculum. That is all.
F TIER
- CS 4670: The material is very interesting. That being said, definitely the most poorly organized and structured course I have ever taken. We had 4 programming assignments, 2 written homeworks. We had 1 homework due at the very end of february, and one programming assignment due in the middle of march. Then, and this is the funny part, THE REST OF THE ASSIGNMENTS WERE ALL DUE IN THE 4 WEEKS IN BETWEEN SPRING BRING AND THE END OF CLASSES. Just avoid this, not even worth the time.
- MATH 4310: I have absolutely no idea how this class is taught with literally any other professor, but I did not have any other professor. I feel no remorse when saying this: Professor Dan Barbasch is hands down the worst professor I have ever taken a course with at Cornell. His lectures can be summarized as 55 minutes of rambling on about a topic, and then him saying "ok I will see you all next time." It was so bad that by the end of the semester, of the 40 people enrolled, only 5 actually showed up to class. One time it was literally just me alone with him for like 20 minutes while he just awkwardly lectured to one person. His teaching aside, his exams were ridiculous, and homework was equally stupid. We also had an "Independent Study" to do, which only had incredibly vague guidelines and he barely gave any guidance on it. In all, yeah this is the worst class I've ever taken by far.

2024.05.17 02:59 rahonan Who is the foremost figure of New Shadow Style
In volume 5 we learn that Miwa was scouted by the foremost figure of New Shadow Style and we were never told exactly who that was.
https://preview.redd.it/naaqhftgxv0d1.jpg?width=1067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5447b72cc3e1a6232bb79ba78b4769b3ea0e637 The only other New Shadow Style sorcerer(NSS), Kusakabe, was only introduced in chapter 83 and we didn't even learn that much about him, so while it could be that he was the figure mentioned it was only a guess, with the recent chapters I think it was definitely Kusakabe.
- Power
The foremost figure of NSS should be one of the strongest, if not the strongest practitioners of it and Kusakabe fits the bill. He is called the strongest grade 1 sorcerer by Mei Mei, Nanami and Gojo, so he is one of the strongest sorcerers who use NSS as their fighting style. (There are special grades sorcerers, who are stronger than Kusakabe and can use NSS, but it isn't how they mainly fight) He's also shown to be a knowledgeable sorcerer.
- Since the figure is the one who recruited Miwa, I think it's logical that they have a close relationship.
During the discussion of Higuruma's technique, the characters were drawn in groups based on their relationships and Miwa was standing next to Kusakabe. They have several interactions together, like Miwa throwing water on him, Miwa questioning Kusakabe if he understands Nagayama criteria. The biggest evidence suggesting they are close is Kusakabe thinking he has to fight Sukuna, otherwise he'll kill
Miwa and the others, he specifically mentions Miwa.

Kusakabe has an original simple domain program that intercepts things that enter it. Miwa has the same program with her domain. Obviously, it was Kusakabe who taught Miwa it, since they are from different schools (Miwa Kyoto, Kusakabe Tokyo 2nd year teacher), the only reason Kusakabe would have taught her that is because she was scouted by him.

2024.05.16 23:35 SuperCustodiam A Buyer's Guide to the AL Ships
This is a straight to the point buyers guide for people that are wondering if any of the AL ships are worth buying or not. I am here to give you an idea of what's worth, and what's not. I will rank them in descending order for convenience.
Keep in mind that these are from my own opinions on the game: my word is not law. These are just my recommendations from my personal experience and a spur of the moment deal personally.
Best Pick: AL Montpelier
This is a premium version of Cleveland, the USN tier VIII CL. However, unlike the later AL premiums, AL Montpelier was unique in at least, a very minor way: She has tighter shot grouping due to a 2.15 sigma versus the standard 2.0 at the cost of slower reload at 0.5 sec slower (7 sec vs 6.5 sec). The result is overall consistent salvos, at the cost of just a little DPM that can be fixed with Adrenaline Rush and Top Grade Gunner, depending on how you build her.
Besides that, she also has un-nerfed version of radar, at a 30 sec vs 27 sec on Cleveland. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you run Consumable Enchantments and or Surveillance Radar Mod 1, you have a larger number that the percent based changes will take affect on. Essentially, with both the commander skill and 2nd slot upgrade, you get 39.6 sec vs 35.6 seconds on duration. So a radar build is not bad compared to Cleveland. Besides that, she doesn't have access to the catapult fighter consumable, but that is super seceded by radar and anyways so who cares.
And above all else, it is a Cleveland, which is IMO, a very competitively viable cruiser at tier VIII, with it's very small citadel, thin profile / narrow beam that leads to a lot of over-penetrations, good DPM, good concealment, and good AA. It really only lacks in the speed, gun range, and shell flight time problems, which can be remedied with skill and positioning.
As far as the commander voice acting,
Rie Takahashi voices Montpelier. If you do not know who that is or do not care, and just want to know if the commander's voice is annoying or not, then be happy that she isn't overtly grating compared to some of the other commanders you can get. I find her rather composed, cool, and relaxed, fitting the trope of kuudere, if you even know what that means.
TLDR: Premium Cleveland with higher sigma, slightly lower RoF, Longer lasting radar.
Runner Up: AL Sovetsky Rossiya
This is a premium version of Sovetsky Soyuz, the VMF (Soviet Navy) Tier IX BB. Like Montpelier, she is slightly unique to her tech tree counterpart, bar being premium, by having standard battleship dispersion (USN, Royal Navy, German, etc.) instead of Russian BB dispersion formula that gets way better inside 15km. She does also have 1.8 sigma versus 1.7 sigma, for slightly tighter shot grouping. So, while Soyuz excels at mid range, Rossiya excels at long range, which does reasonably well considering the average high tier meta these days.
Other than that, you retain all the upsides of Fast action Damage Control Parties, the tough hull design of the Sovetsky Soyuz. The only other thing you DO NOT get is the AA, as she has the Hull A of Sovetsky Soyuz, and in turn has worse AA overall. In fact, she has such bad AA that only Musashi beats her out in having worse AA for Tier IX battleships. So yeah, CVs that know their targets will have free reign on you, so stick close to allies in CV matches.
Now a I'll be honest with you, Rossiya is not a super competitive BB at tier IX, so this choice is really just down to being different in few ways instead of blatant copy paste. Really, only AL Montpelier is the only super competitive option here. So above all else, Rossiya is a side grade if anything and you should not fear of having FOMO for not getting her. Besides, she's not an historical ship that is going to get removed because it was OP, so fret not (
COUGH COUGH MUSASHI, COUGH COUGH ALASKA, COUGH COUGH MISSOURI).
Lastly, the commander is voiced by
Manami Numakura. I can really only characterize her as cool, tough, deep voiced anime woman archetype. I dunno really how to explain it that well, so I apologize for anyone that likes her due to my poor description.
TLDR: Premium Sovetsky Soyuz Hull A with 1.8 sigma and standard battleship dispersion.
OK, with those two out of the way, I want to put a disclaimer here that the next ships are purely optional and not super worth it IMO and really only selected for being different than the rest, I.E. not something that is currently offered in other ships / premium ships already in-game. Optional 1st Pick: AL Prinz Heinrich
This is a premium version of Prinz Heinrich, the tier VII german battlecruiser of the Ersatz Yorck class. She is a 1 for 1 copy of Prinz Heinrich: no special differences here besides premium benefits.
Now, while she is not unique in any way, she is not a bad battlecruiser for tier VII standards. This mainly comes down to the 50mm deck plating she has in a tier wrought with battleships with just 26mm of plating on their decks. Really, any tier VII battleship that has more than 27mm of plating is really competitive in this tier, simply because they don't get overmatched or full-penned by HE. It's sort of why Scharnhorst '43 is so popular and good, since she doesn't get chunked for 10k when hit by 15 in + guns (380mm guns for ya'll metric nerds).
Besides that, she's not slow as hell, going at a decent 28 knots, has 15in guns herself, has fast acting DCP, and is the first ship in the german battlecruisefast battleship line that gets that sweet improved secondary dispersion formula, which despite the 9km max range, means that she has free DPM to let the game play itself essentially. Combined with torpedoes, she can bum rush many slower and weaker battleships that the german battlecruiser line is famous for. And on top of all that, she also has hydro for better pushing to see torpedoes earlier, or push smoked up ships.
Now for some cons, the guns, while using battlecruiser dispersion have an awful 1.5 sigma, so your shot grouping is... bad. Do not be surprised if a lot of your shells in your salvo get a mind of their own. Besides that, she's on the below average end of HP for tier VII, at 56k. Also, she does have 25mm bow and stern. She does have a 30mm extended belt (colloquially known as an ice breaker), which is followed by 120mm extended belt, that protects the lower portion of the ship from overmatch bar 18in guns that she MIGHT face in the likes of Georgia, Sun Yat Sen, Musashi, and Tsurugi, and Adatara. Still, that doesn't mean she is immune from overmatch, as the odd shell can still get through her bow and stern and chunk you, so do not bet on it 100%.
Now that is for the most part, the review. However, for any true fans out there, they know that Prinz Heinrich from AL is actually a P-Class cruiser, AKA Schill in this game. Since Schill was a limited time ship that required whaling for her, and that wargaming dropped the ball and just did "Oh this ship has the same name! Here ya go!" then you know how much this kind of sucks. If you just like Prinz Heinrich, and want her as a premium, you can ignore this tidbit, but for any true fans that DO NOT have Schill, you're shit outta luck.
As far as commander goes, the voice actor,
Hiyori Nitta, does a wonderful job characterizing a carefree and bubbly character. As previously mentioned, I recommend putting her on Schill if you really care about game accuracy, that is, if you even had Schill to begin with.
TLDR: Premium Prinz Heinrich copy-paste. Get it only if you really like Prinz Heinrich (the ship) which is actually pretty good for its tier, and want a premium version of it, or Prinz Heinrich as the character.
Optional 2nd Pick: AL Shimakaze
Hoo boy, this one might be controversial. This is a special ship (NOT a premium ship) of IJN DD, Shimakaze.
Shimakaze really needs no introduction. It is the old school torpedo boat that coined the phrase "Torpedo soup" or at least contributed to that phrase. It can put 3x5 23k damage, 12km Type 93 long lance torpedoes into the water. It has some of the best concealment for her tier, getting down to 5.6km surface detect, and good speed at 39 kts (42 kts when speed boost is active). It has been here since the games launch, and well, admittedly, or at least in my opinion, has seen better days.
Still, while some other DDs might have powercrept her a little, you can't mistake the fact that a well played Shimakaze can terrorize a team that lacks the tools to pin her down. Even if that is seldom the case most of the time (48% win rate on NA out of 8 million battles), the ship still has strong tools when played to it's strengths. 23k damage torpedoes are no joke... if you get hit by them at least, as they have a pretty awful average reaction time of ~9.35 sec (according to wows ship builder). Now, this can be sort of remedied with building for torpedo speed, getting torpedo tubes mod 1 and swift fish to decrease that time to ~8.5 sec, but that's still far above the average of 7.8 sec most torpedoes have in other nations. Still, if you get the right angle, devstriking a full HP battleship is not uncommon if you get a perfectly lined up shot. Thing is, it takes WAY more skill and positioning than you think it does, especially considering that most top tier players sort of know what they're doing, and that a lot of top tier ships can run hydroacoustic search these days.
Combined with the fact that she has some of the worse gun DPM of any tier X DD, and has fairly low HP for the tier, it can be fairly hard to play this ship unless you get just the best matchmaking ever. It's a real feast or famine type ship, which I would say summarizes most of the IJN Shimakaze line in general, bar maybe the mid tiers. All this really means is that Shimakaze is NOT the most competitive DD at tier X, as arguably many other nations have better torpedo boats, or better yet, opt for hybrid boats that can defend themselves fairly well, such as the Pan Euro DDs. Still, as mentioned earlier, if played to her strengths, she can be a good ship, but all I am arguing for is that she is not a meta ship, at least in my opinion.
Now, onto the whole Special Ship thing. Yes, this IS a tier X ship that can be bought for money. And YES, this is like the ARP Yamato deal, allowing noob whales to skip to tier X and forgo all the blood sweat and tears that goes into grinding to top tier.
And YES, IT'S A SHIMAKAZE, THE TIER X NOOB MACHINE. I DO NOT HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR MANY AL SHIMAKAZE PLAYERS EITHER. With that out of the way, what benefit do you get for getting a special ship version of Shimakaze?
Well, to start, Special ships essentially have the premium bonus package already baked in, I.E: +50% Credits, +100% Ship XP, +100% Commander XP, +100% Free XP. On top of that, you also have a reduced repair cost compared to a standard tier X. Besides that, you can freely swap commanders onto this ship like a premium ship with no retraining required, making it a good trainer. These are the ONLY 2 reasons that make this ship more economically viable compared to Shimakaze. While the bonus package on Shimakaze can achieve 1 of these 3 effects, the other two, reduced repair cost and free commander swapping, puts this above standard Shimakaze as a result.
So, unfortunately, This is a slightly better Shimakaze. So if you REALLY like Shimakaze, and want a premium version of it, well, here it is, for a lot of goddamn money. Like $100+ expensive. Go figure ya know?
Also, the commander is voiced by
Saori Hayami.
TLDR: Special Ship verison of Shimakaze. Take if you
are a whale have a lot of expendable income to burn, AND really like Shimakaze (The ship), and or really like Shimakaze (the AL character).
Optional 3rd Pick: AL Yukikaze
AL Yukikaze is a similar version of the IJN DD Kagero, but with F8 torpedoes and no option for torpedo reload booster.
Now, this is the last of the semi-unique AL ships, as every other one has been copy-paste. Yukikaze at the very least is different in that she has F8 torpedoes. These differ than Kagero's choice by having less range, (8km vs 10km), higher damage (21k vs 20k), faster reload (104 sec vs 112 sec), and higher speed (76kts to 67kts) which also leads to a better reaction time of ~8.8 sec vs ~9.45 sec.
Now, does this make Yukikaze better? No, not really, as 8km is rather short range for high tier standards. It does make them almost break past ~8 sec reaction time with a full torpedo speed build, the best of any type 93 torpedo, but combined with the fact that it has no other differences in gun handling, DPM, HP, and consumables, I find this shorter ranged torpedo to be a high risk high reward setup, which already exacerbates high tier IJN DD gameplay further than it already is, being so heavily feast or famine.
I can really only recommend this ship if you really like Kagero for whatever reason and really like the 8km F8 playstyle. That and if you like the history of the ship and or like the character of the ship, voiced by
Kana Yuuki, despite how annoying and self aggrandizing her character is made out to be.
TLDR: Kagero but 8km F8 torpedoes.
OK, now for the ships I really do not recommend at all for varying reasons. The reviews are going to be more brief from here on out. Skip 1: AL Cheshire
Only get this if you really, REALLY want to get Cheshire right now. Currently, regular Cheshire is off sale, and cannot be obtained. For whatever reason you think you might need Cheshire, this is the only way to obtain her at the moment in AL form. Which more than likely means that if you want her, you are more than likely a fan of the AL character, as the ship itself is pretty bad. Kind of polarizing given that Cheshire in AL is pretty meta, and her in WoWs she's pretty solidly in D tier for competitiveness.
She is essentially a worse Albemarle, having no Spotter Plane, and garbage DPM for the tier. Really, the 9.2 in guns really only offer 59mm of pen vs 34mm, and better AP pen with overall flatter flight times, but not by much. The armor is Okayish, but trust me when you will get smacked through your bow and stern often, as you have a stepped citadel that if you get overmatched through either direction, you WILL get citadelled. While you get that 50% cit and hull repair party, it really doesn't matter that much when it happens so often, or you just get straight up dev striked. Combined with the lack of spotter plane, that 16km gun range will feel really short, especially when you are bottom tier.
You can at least be happy that the AA she has is up to par in how she is in AL, as it's best in class for her tier. Well, mostly, but her Flak Count is above average at 6+1, and combined with always having defensive fire, I recommend getting the commander skill Focus Fire Training, so you get that +1 flak cloud for 8 in total, which combined with Defensive fires flak buff, those flak bursts will do 7k a pop, Which is the equivalent to instantly destroying about 7 to 3 planes depending on the type if they run into it while DF is active.
Besides that, the commander is voiced by
Shizuka Ishigami, and well, pretends to be a catgirl.
TLDR: Get this if you really really, REALLY want Cheshire and you don't have one, or because you really like the AL character.
Skip 2: AL Hornet
This is just Hornet. You can get her cheaper with a 25% discount coupon. It's also a CV, which I imagine is not everyones cup of tea.
The commander is voiced by
Nozomi Yamamoto, and personally, I enjoy the happy go lucky characterization she has. This might be the ONLY reason you want to get Hornet, that or because you like the cool skin the ship has, and or the free 10 point commander.
TLDR: Get regular Hornet with 25% discount. ONLY buy this if you love AL Hornet (the character) to pieces.
Skip 3 & 4: AL Azuma and AL Agir
These two are just Agir and Azuma, coal ships, that you can get absolutely for free. They are also not really the best Tier IX cruisers anyways, as Azuma is super vulnerable to battleships, and Agir doesn't match up to the likes of other large cruisers at this tier.
That said, I can only imagine you getting these ships for the same reasons for Hornet, and that is because you are a fan of the AL characterization of these ships, as Azuma is voiced by
Kiyono Yasuno, and Agir,
Ayane Sakura. Or you just like the ship skins.
TLDR: Get Azuma and or Agir for free with Coal. ONLY buy this if you love AL Agir / AL Azuma (the characters).
BONUS: Commander Pack
Hahaha no. Unless you really love AL and don't mind by dropping...
looks at price...
100$+ USD and getting a ton of fully voiced commanders, then go for it. The only other reason would be because you are a fresh player and need 10 point commanders for most of the nations in this game, which is really only useful if you need say concealment expert on destroyers for example, then sure, go for it if you find that to be an OK option.
EDIT: BONUS BONUS: AL Littorio
I forgot AL Roma, I mean AL Littorio is also a thing, and on an 80% sale.
Anyways, Roma herself sucks.
The guns have so much muzzle velocity that you will overpen targets 50% of the time. Combined with the Italian / french dispersion, which is one of the worst battleship dispersion formulas for battleships. So, they are fairly inconsistent guns as a result. Still, if the guns behave, they are pretty mean, as they have a lot of penetration for 15 in guns, on par with some of the best penetration for tier VIII battleships. They also have the best damage for 15 in guns for the tier as well. The gun handling is at least not total crap, as they have 30 sec 180° rotation time, which is above average for most BBs. The forward gun angles are decent too, at 31°, but her rear angles are worse at 40°.
Speaking off, the armor is fairly good at a first glance, with 45mm deck, 70mm deck sides, and a fairly small superstructure which has extra protection from her 90mm dual purpose guns 40mm barbettes and the conning tower. The citadel is slightly above water, but it is not a turtleback, so you WILL get punished for being broadside, considering the armor is 375mm + 40mm of armor or protection. The 40mm inner plate is not overmatchable at least, which is a small plus. At least, compared to the tech tree Tier IX and Tier X that have 25mm plates under their turtleback.
She also gets points for good concealment for her tier, being among the best, at 13.39km base, 11.7km max.
Overall, she's... a tough and sneaky nut to crack, unless she shows broadside. The guns themselves are a massive dirce roll each time, and kind of suck. When they behave though, usually at range, they are amongst the best 15in guns at tier VIII.
Oh and Roma is voiced by
Yui Kondou.
Oh wait. This supposed to be Littorio. Whoops. Then that would be
Shizuka Itou that voices her. And Yes, if you didn't know, this is for all intensive purposes SHOULD be AL Roma. The simple version of this is that the Vittorio Veneto class all had striking unique features that set them apart at a glance. There was a controversy a while ago about AL Littorio literally being Roma with a skin, as if you demout the camo, the Roma nameplate is still there. Same goes for our Tech Tree Vittorio Veneto, as it is too, just Roma. In fact, the upcoming Spanish Tier IX premium Victoria will be the first version of Roma that is somewhat different. But honestly, it doesn't count.
TLDR: It's a freaking Tier VIII BB on 80% off. Get it while it's hot I guess. Besides that, she has poor gun handling and accuracy, but strong armor (when angled), and good concealment.

2024.05.16 23:22 Chickenwingechicken all about scripting
â§ËÊđ„ÉË⧠introduction â§ËÊđ„ÉËâ§
scripts. if you're in the shifting community, you know what they are. but if you are new here or a lurker, i will help explain.
a script is a physical copy of your desired reality. it is so that you can materialize the exact and specific reality you want to shift to. it consists of a series of basic information about yourself in said reality. your name, your age, birthday, friends, family, what the reality you are shifting to is like, what you look like, and so on.
scripting itself is merely inserting yourself into a specific reality. the more that you add to your script, the more specific it will be. it is
not you making up another reality within your mind and it suddenly spawning into existence. this is a common misconception about it so just clearing up that idea here.
đ„Ż Ę ËË FAQs Ę ËË đ„Ż
: ÍÌâ do i need a script? no you don't. you don't
have to script to shift but it is helpful to have one.
: ÍÌâ do i have to script every little thing? no, you can script as much as you want or as little as you want. some find it better not to over script and keep it brief while others find it easier to put into as much detail as possible.
: ÍÌâ can i script _______? yes. if you ask yourself, whatever it may be, then yes. yes you can. you can script a specific event happening, you can script being on another planet, you can script that you have a sibling, you can script a reality where shifting is common. no matter how absurd it seems to
this specific reality, it can be scripted to be possible in another reality. the laws of physics in this reality only hold up in this reality and
only this reality.
: ÍÌâ can i script x future event happening? yes you can. however, it may only be a future event in the reality that you shift to so be aware of that.
: ÍÌâ do i need to remember everything that i script? no, you don't. memorize what you can and briefly skim through your script if it will help, but you don't remember, your subconscious will know and fill in everything else for you. it'll still know where to go.
: ÍÌâ is it morally wrong to script a partner or someone falling in love with me? no because you will be shifting to a reality in which you are dating them or they are in love with you. you are not controlling someone to fall in love with you. it would have come naturally before you shifted, you just weren't aware of it before.
to add to this, it's not morally wrong to script other things like something more brought up, race, gender, or age. you already exist in that reality as said race, gender, and age. yes, it is questionable if you say shift to be a specific race for the sole purpose of doing something inappropriate for that.
: ÍÌâ do i have to start scripting all of my friends? no. for some, i did, and others i did not. again, you don't even need to script in the first place. it just makes it easier to figure things out more.
â§âË đ€ templates â§âË đ€
i have gathered a few templates depending on your dr. some are broad while others are more specific. the more specific ones are based around popular drs that i have seen around the internet.

as i said earlier, you are not making a new reality when you script. that reality already exists. you are just adding all of the exact details of that reality so you can shift easier. scripting is all about going to the reality that
you want to go to. if it feels impossible or a struggle to grasp then that's okay. no need to try and understand every single intricate detail about shifting.
you only need to understand the basics. that being that shifting is you shifting your awareness. and also that in order to do that, you need to focus on your desired reality.
â àŒÂ·Ë tips àŒÂ·Ë â
: ÍÌâ keep it simple and brief. don't make it fanfiction length. you might as well be writing a fanfiction instead of scripting if you write exactly how you are greeted and what seat you sit down in. it can also be distracting if you can't visualize exactly each thing that you script to a 't.' it can also then become overwhelming for you too.
: ÍÌâ not scripting something doesn't mean that it won't happen. for example, you don't need to script that you breathe oxygen or have gravity in your reality in order to shift to that reality. it's just a given and your subconscious will be aware of it and shift to that place for you in which it has oxygen or gravity.
: ÍÌâ do not over stress about the scripting process. it is not as important as the shifting itself. learn to find peace within yourself to shift.
: ÍÌâ if you don't know what exactly to script, look at templates online or view other people's scripts. you will find a common pattern in what people choose to script. many people script stuff such as not getting hurt, not dying, not being able to snap out of shifting just like that, being able to ground yourself easily when you shift, perfect skin, good grades, better focus, nice and loving family, and more of that sort.
: ÍÌâ don't treat scripting as a fanfiction. treat it just like reality and you writing down your aspirations. or writing about yourself and your life. like a diary of sorts.

2024.05.16 23:12 fanofhistory2029 The Platonic Ideal Life Path
I've recently been reflecting on my efforts at being more productive and started writing some longer form content to help structure my thoughts.
I wrote up the below in the past few days and wanted to share. Perhaps some of you have also found yourself hindered by an ongoing search for the ideal life path vs. just enjoy the journey.
Hope you find this helpful!
Despite your inflated sense of yourself, you are not, amongst all other humans, impervious to being brainwashed. This is a hardwired feature of your mind and a circuit that is operating at all times, if you allow it to do so. You arenât being brainwashed in the cartoonish mode of being made to act like a chicken or empty your wallet. However, you are being brainwashed nonetheless.
Replace the word âbrainwashedâ with âinfluencedâ and you may start to see my point. If you read me, you are not a fan of the influencers for stupid people (a la Andrew Tate) but perhaps you have more refined taste (Huberman, Attia, Ferriss, Jocko, Peterson, Newport). If there are any such personalities you are a fan of, I assure you that in your efforts to live a more productive, successful, disciplined life⊠you have been brainwashed.
I want to focus on how quickly the messages that you hear from these sources transition into âshouldsâ that run in the background of your daily self-talk. These sources are an unending stream of great ideas for how you should wake up, how you should work, how you should eat, how you should exercise, how you should have sex, how you should meditate, how you should partake in leisure and so on. Notice that they donât always come in the form of a statement that says âyou should do x.â They may come in the form of âmy typical daily routine looks like yâ. Either way, your mind is primed and ready to sponge it all up.
If you were but a simple peasant farming in Ye Olde England six hundred years ago, your life was governed by a very rigid set of âshouldsâ. There was the Bible, there were social norms, the rules of the king, and so. However, these were still a relatively manageable list of rules that one could live by, and it was not unreasonable to assume that you could mostly stay on the Righteous Path. Fast forward to the algo-influencer age and all bets are off. Open up any platform and within minutes, youâll be bombarded with more âshouldsâ than you can possibly keep in mind at once. This observation comes with no value judgment on the quality of what we are being told, I am only commenting on the volume.
You are wrong if you tell me that you are effective at curating the good stuff that will improve your life from the algo-influencer-Youtube-podcast-x regime. I know you think you are because, as we noted, you are a fan of the high class, refined content. The good stuff. The science backed stuff. Hereâs the thing, once a source of information finds some sort of âresonanceâ with your subconscious, you are going to suck it all right up. All the great stuff you hear will immediately seep into your subconscious and become a constant quiet voice in the back of your mind berating you with a litany of âshoulds.â
Alas, you object - itâs all good stuff. Huberman has me locked onto managing my dopamine levels, Attia has me optimizing my diet, Dr. Zoidberg has me keeping limber, and Cal Newport is showing me how to live a deep life. I want to point out three problems with what is going on here.
Problem #1 - Your mind is not actually asking what end purpose is being served by adopting the idea that you âshouldâ be doing a given thing.
Letâs cue Jocko Willink on this one. I am someone who, for many years, felt it was important to wake up at 4:30am because of⊠discipline. Why? Well, I must get up early to be up before the enemy and for freedom. I note that discipline is the ultimate meta-âshouldâ. Discipline means getting yourself to do all the âshouldsâ on your list. Can anyone tell me what outcome Iâm missing out on by not partaking in a daily cold plunge, heat plunge, ice bath, or looking at the sun within 15 minutes of waking up?
Problem #2 - Even if you have a desired end goal, your mind is not doing a rigorous job of assessing whether or not a given âshouldâ will get you there.
Most of us would like more control of our daily schedule in order to have more freedom and flexibility. The grindset types on Youtube, or on X have a common solution for us. I am not likely taking a huge leap in that one âshouldâ you have picked up is something to do with entrepreneurship. Ok, have you really considered whether starting your own business will give you more freedom? Maybe it will⊠I just suspect you picked up this idea without really looking at the pros and cons.
Problem #3 - Even if youâve been bequeathed a fantastic, grade A, âshouldâ from someone⊠youâve got more than you can handle already.
If a âshouldâ that you heard on Youtube or read in a book resonates for some reason, your mind will take it up and start beaming you subconscious messages to do that thing. Your mind will also happily send you 10 of these at once. Are they contradictory? Who cares? I âshouldâ wake up at 4:30, and I should sleep at least 8 hours with no alarm clock. I should also consider being a night owl creative type, and stay up late to grind if life demands it. Some âshouldsâ probably arenât even really defined to any precision. I should be more driven, more mindful, more dynamic. I genuinely feel all those impulses and canât even begin to tell you what it would like to actually do them. Mr. Brain has no problem with cognitive dissonance, and will dutifully tell me to live up to all of these.
Letâs now talk about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (as an aside, yes I also feel a âshouldâ to be more religious, spiritual, and penitent). Well, really I want to talk about The Promised Land. I know you⊠you are the hard driving, disciplined type. You like to punish yourself for not living up to your expectations. Alas, you are on the verge of getting there. If you could just get a few days in a row where you nail all your âshoulds,â it will all fall into place. One perfect day will lead to the next and the next. Then, Iâll have made it. Iâll be in the land of enlightenment (and oh so productive). Fellow pilgrim, Iâm right there with you on the Righteous Path.
Wait a second, something feels off. Did I say above that our mind will happily adopt any set of âshouldsâ no matter how contradictory or ill-defined they may be? And, did I also say that Iâm striving to get to The Promised Land by doing âAll the Shouldsâ? If The Righteous Path is the road that leads to The Promised Land, Iâve got some bad news for you. You are permanently off The Righteous Path. This, my friend, is why you constantly feel like you are not living up to your expectations. They are impossible - you never had a chance. Itâs ok though - Jesus died for your sins and there is still a path to salvation.
Oh, but, Iâm not ready for salvation, I want to rock on. Hereâs what weâd all prefer to do when faced with that sensation of being off the Path. Itâs time to hunker down, and go to war, and GRIND. Donât tell me I canât do it all. When fate whispers, âYou cannot Withstand The Storm,â the Warrior Whispers, âI am the Storm.â Iâm feeling chills (no really, itâs a great quote). Thatâs how we roll. We man up and get that shit done. Well, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if that worked you wouldnât still be in the market for motivational content. You are still lost⊠no Youtube video is going to get out of the bottomless deep of the âshould.â
Back to Jesus (gasp - you didnât warn me this would be a borderline sacrilegious article). Itâs okay, Jesus is fair game in the algo-world. This is that obnoxious pause point in a self help book where thereâs a worksheet page and you are asked to write stuff down. Take 10 minutes and make yourself a list of all the âshouldsâ that you are feeling at this point about your life. Iâll help you get going with some prompts: businesses to start, podcasts to create, books to read, daily rituals to adopt, food to eat/not eat, workout routine to start, races to run, people to call, projects to do. You get the idea.
More work for you. Now imagine your perfect day. I mean a day that checks all the boxes. I despise rap, but seek inspiration in imagining the productivity version of the Ice Cube hit, âIt was a Good Day.â How would you spend your time? Think about it hour by hour, minute by minute. When do you wake up? What do you do after waking up? How much time do you spend working? What sort of work? What else do you do? Map it all out. Imagine this as a day where you fully control your schedule.
Are you still with me? Probably not. This is too many words for the internet and Iâm asking too much of your lazy ass. You should be less lazy. See what I did there? Ok, next step. Map your perfect day onto reality. Take any of the days from the past week where you had real life commitments such as work meetings, errands, childcare and ask yourself how you would map this perfect day onto that reality. Where would the three hours of Cal Newport Deep Work fit? How would you wake up at 4:30am after being up late because your kid was sick or your friend from out of town was visiting?
My point is, of course, obvious. However, donât underestimate what I am saying. I am not saying that you canât always have your perfect day. I am saying you can never have the perfect day. You are imposing unrealistic expectations upon reality. This conflict has always existed and you had two choices: 1) Dig deeper and muscle through because you are failing as a person to be sufficiently disciplined, or 2) Accept that your âshouldsâ were always impossible to fully satisfy, and try something different.
Hereâs the last thing I want you to do for now. Go back to your âshouldâ list from the first step and take a critical eye. I give you permission to cross out as many as youâd like. If you are unsure before you cross it out, ask yourself: Where did this idea come from? Does it help me lead a happier life? Do I even agree with the premise? When in doubt, cross it out and feel the freedom.
Iâll leave you with one last message - you are probably doing just fine. Are there improvements you can make in your life? Sure, we all can. However, you arenât failing, you arenât straying from The Righteous Path, and there is no Promised Land. Thereâs just the lower case p path, and that is alright.

2024.05.16 22:56 UofTComputerEngineer My thoughts (and tips) on every course I took so far (UofT Computer Engineering)
I've recently completed my third year of computer engineering at UofT, and I wanted to share my thoughts on the courses I've taken. I hope this will be beneficial to incoming first, second, and third-year engineering students. My area of depth is 6 (Software) and my areas of breadth are 4 (Control) and 5 (Computer hardware/networks).
Difficulty: How hard it was to comprehend course material and/or complete practice problems accurately. Keep in mind that difficulty is subjective but I tried to eliminate personal bias and be as objective as possible.
Workload: The amount of work to complete outside of lectures (labs, assignments, homework, studying for tests/exams).
All engineers take the exact same courses in their first year first semester and similar ones in second semester. I took these courses in 2021 during covid so some information might be outdated.
First Year Semester 1:
APS100 Orientation to Engineering:
Difficulty: 1/10 Workload: 3/10 Course Average: N/A
There is no technical material in this course. All coursework consists of Ethics analysis, creating a schedule for time management, creating your resume, and discussion board participation. During tutorials, the TA typically asks behavioral questions to the class and covers slides pertaining to engineering principles, the learning environment, test readiness, and related topics.
APS110 Engineering Chemistry and Materials Science
Difficulty: 6/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: B
This course blends elements of chemistry, physics, and mathematics, requiring lots of formulas and memorization. The assignments and online quizzes were moderately difficult. Not sure if heâs still teaching but Scott Ramsay was a really good professor. Really enjoyed watching his video demonstrations.
APS111 Engineering Strategies and Practices I
Difficulty: 3/10 Workload: 6/10 (Variable) Course Average: B
Students are organized into groups of 5-6 and are assigned the task of developing a solution for a client, following the engineering design process. Success in this course heavily relies on your team. Throughout the semester, there are several milestones where you need to submit large reports with your team, making it crucial to have capable teammates. Many teams resorted to last-minute cramming the night before each milestone (not a good idea). Additionally, there are two peer reviews, so make sure you contribute to avoid being perceived as an unproductive member. In most cases, you donât need to worry about this though. Youâd likely all be good friends by that point (and give each other a perfect review).
CIV100 Mechanics
Difficulty: 9/10 Workload: 9/10 Course Average: C+
The consensus among most students in my year was that this was the toughest first year course. It's incredibly calculation heavy, with questions that may appear straightforward in theory but require multiple steps to solve. Even a minor error can screw up your entire calculation process. The assignments are extremely time-consuming, and the quizzes pose significant challenges. I suggest you work in a group for the assignments. Furthermore, both the final exam and midterm were exceptionally difficult.
MAT186 Calculus I
Difficulty: 4/10 Workload: 4/10 Course Average: B
If youâve taken IB or AP this course will be a breeze. Even without that background, it's still relatively straightforward. Very little on integrals, mostly derivatives, rates of change, and graphs. PCEs and WebWorks were trivial, and the midterm and exam were easy.
MAT188 Linear Algebra
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 7/10 Course Average: B-
The majority of the course revolves around relatively straightforward operations on matrices and vectors. However, it does introduce abstract concepts like higher-order dimensions, which may require some deeper thinking to fully grasp. Webwork assignments were slightly more challenging compared to MAT186's, and completing assignments took a while. Once again, you should work with a partner or as a group. Pay attention in the MATLAB practicals because youâll be using MATLAB pretty often in future courses.
First Year Semester 2:
APS105 Computer Fundamentals
Difficulty: 6/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: B-
If youâve taken programming in high school, you will likely find this course very easy (2/10 difficulty). The course covers simple programming syntax, along with basic sorting algorithms, without delving into more advanced concepts beyond linked lists and binary trees. I think that this was one of the more enjoyable courses of first year.
APS112 Engineering Strategies and Practices II
Difficulty: 5/10 Workload: 7/10 (Variable) Course Average: B+
This course is essentially a continuation of APS111, but with the added component of being assigned an actual client with a real-world problem statement. Each group works with a unique client, and at the end of the term, you present your final report directly to them, along with your supervisors. As with APS111, the quality of your team plays a crucial role in your success. Another thing to note is that unlike APS111, there were multiple individual assignments to complete on top of your team reports.
ECE110 Electrical Fundamentals
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 6/10 Course Average: C+
Definitely one of the harder first year courses. This course marks your introduction to circuits. Topics covered include capacitors, Ampere's law, Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws, AC/DC circuits, magnetism, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, and more. The material is extensive and requires thorough understanding, as many future courses will build upon its concepts. Make sure that you understand the content well, given its foundational importance in subsequent courses.
ECE191 Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering
Difficulty: 0/10 Workload: 1/10 Course Average: N/A
Seminar course. You just need to show up to the lectures (one per week) and submit a 100-ish word report about what you learned.
MAT187 Calculus II
Difficulty: 6/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: C+
The workload in this course is comparable to Calc I, but the content is more challenging (obviously). It delves deeper into integrals and introduces concepts like ordinary differential equations and polar coordinates. But again, youâll manage just fine if you did decently in Calc 1, and especially if youâve taken AP math or IB HL math.
MIE100 Dynamics
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload 4/10 Course Average: C+
I personally found this to be the most challenging course in first year, but it seems that most people disagree with me. It shares similarities with CIV100, but youâre instead dealing with dynamic systems (moving) rather than static ones (not moving). Some concepts may prove difficult to grasp initially. However, if you focus on memorizing the relevant formulas and understanding when to apply them, you should be okay. Expect an emphasis on physics in this course.
Second year was the worst (for ECE) and a very big step up from first year. If you struggled in first year, you better lock in for second year.
Second Year Semester 1:
ECE201 ECE Seminar Course
Difficulty: 0/10 Workload: 0/10 Course Average: N/A
Another seminar course, except you just need to attend 7/10 lectures to pass. Most students just scan their Tcard at the entrance then leave right after. The lectures are pretty useless except the Magellan one where they show you how to choose courses for 3rd and 4th year.
ECE212 Circuit Analysis
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 8/10 Course Average: B+
This course provides a deeper exploration of circuits, extending beyond circuit solving to include frequency and sinusoidal analysis. Questions tend to be long so careless errors will cost you. Personally, I found the labs challenging, particularly because they required working with oscilloscopes at a higher level than I was used to, and I could not for the life of me figure out how to use that thing.
ECE241 Digital Systems
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 8/10 Course Average: B-
This hardware course focuses on the foundation of hardware. A lot of the content is at the fundamental level so itâs not too hard to comprehend. However, the main challenge lies in learning Verilog, a hardware description language. I hate Verilog. All the labs are done using Verilog, and frustratingly, the course provides no instruction on the language, nor are there many helpful resources available online. This lack of guidance made what should have been straightforward labs much more difficult. Thankfully if you are in CE, youâll never need to take another course with Verilog again. The midterm was easy but the final was borderline impossible.
ECE244 Programming Fundamentals
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 7/10 Course Average: B-
This course is the sequel to APS105, delving into more advanced concepts like pointers, constructors, polymorphism, and inheritance. Many of these topics may feel familiar if you have prior programming experience, particularly from high school. Consequently, if you're already proficient in programming, as many computer engineering students are, you should be able to navigate through this course well. The labs were generally manageable, although a couple of them were time-consuming.
MAT290 Advanced Engineering Mathematics
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload 8/10 Course Average: B
In this course, youâll learn a lot of miscellaneous mathematical concepts that will be relevant in future courses. The goal is to establish a strong foundation to facilitate understanding in third and fourth-year courses. There is also a quiz every week. They were terrible from a time management standpoint, but as long as you spent 3-4 hours per week completing the assigned textbook questions, you should be alright since one (out of two) of the questions on the quiz is guaranteed to be an assigned textbook question (at least, that was the case when I took the course).
MAT291 Calculus III
Difficulty: 9/10 Workload 9/10 Course Average: B-
The entire workload comes from studying for those damn weekly quizzes, much like MAT290. Personally, I found it to be one of the most difficult courses I've ever taken. Think of calculus 2, but now everything is in three dimensions, encompassing concepts like surface integrals, flux integrals, and more. Additionally, the course introduces abstract topics that I still struggle to grasp. Balancing the demands of this course alongside everything else was an incredibly stressful experience.
Second Year Semester 2:
ECE216 Signals and Systems
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload:7/10 Course Average: C+
I think everyone hated this course. It was so poorly taught and the midterms felt haphazard and unpredictable. I relied on the power of BS to pass (worked surprisingly). Other than working with many graphs and MATLAB, I donât remember much about this course because it was so uninteresting.
ECE221 Electric and Magnetic Fields
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: C+
This course serves as an introduction to fields, while also expanding on the principles covered in ECE110. Many concepts build upon intuitive ideas, such as the repulsion of identical charges and attraction of opposite charges, which can make seemingly complex topics less intimidating. There are also many procedures that you need to know to solve specific types of questions. The labs are generally straightforward. You just need to follow the steps on the lab worksheet and answer a few simple questions from the TA.
ECE231 Intro to Electronics
Difficulty: 9/10 Workload: 7/10 Course Average: C+
This course is basically circuit analysis but significantly harder. It combines everything you've learned about circuits thus far, introducing new topics on top of that foundation. There are so many new concepts to learn and the final pretty much tests you on all of them. Iâve encountered multiple scenarios where I saw two concepts that I thought were completely separate from each other being integrated into a single question on an exam. Also very calculation heavy. Despite my experience in this course, I must admit Khoman Fang was a great professor.
ECE243 Computer Organization
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 6/10 Course Average: B
This course is a direct continuation of ECE241, and surprisingly, I found it a lot more enjoyable than its prerequisite. The focus is on Assembly language programming, which I found to be way more understandable compared to Verilog. Assembly operates at a fundamental level, so youâre technically working with the most basic building blocks in programming. The labs often involved seemingly simple tasks like counting to 10 on a HEX display, but the nature of Assembly meant that achieving this could require hundreds of lines of code. I appreciated these labs as they provided a refreshing change from the usual programming tasks. Final and midterm exams were relatively easy.
ECE297 Software communication and design
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 9/10 (Variable) Course Average: B+
Despite the demanding workload, this course was one of my favorites. The main project involved collaborating in teams of three to develop a geographical information system (similar to Google Maps). Unlike other courses where teams are assigned, here you have the freedom to choose your own teammates. Starting off, your team is given only the OpenStreetMap database, and the APIs, granting you complete control over your project's design, functionality, and optimization. Performance enhancement and pathfinding algorithms were key components of the project. It's crucial for all team members to contribute effectively for success in this course; And trust me, this is not a one or two person project. To succeed in this course, all three members must be doing their share.
Third Year:
They say that third year is the easiest year for ECE, but that depends on what courses you choose. For me, it was only slightly easier than second year but still significantly harder than first year.
APS360 Fundamentals of Deep Learning
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload : 8/10 Course Average: B+
This course felt fundamentally very different compared to the other programming related courses. If youâre unfamiliar with deep learning, the content can be overwhelming but the inner workings behind AI are both fascinating and challenging to grasp. Fortunately, much of the coding in the course revolves around preparing data, setting up AI architectures, and training/testing models, rather than building an AI from scratch. While the labs are manageable, the final project can be very time consuming, particularly as training a single model can require hours or even days. Regarding this aspect, make sure you start early. Both the midterm and final exams were quite difficult.
ECE302 Probability and Applications
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 3/10 Course Average: B-
The first half of this course is very straightforward. Just an introduction to probability. The second half is where the difficulty quickly ramps up. Make sure you donât underestimate the second half of the course. I made the mistake of assuming the material was easy after performing well on both midterms (midterms were very easy), leading me to neglect the final third of the course so I flunked the final. FYI, our marks were determined solely by the 2 midterms and the final.
ECE344 Operating Systems
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 10/10 Course Average: B
This course had the most difficult and demanding labs Iâve ever seen in my life. They are due every two weeks and some of them took most students more than 15 hours to complete. Iâve seen people staying up all night in the GB computer rooms to finish these labs. One positive aspect of the course if Jon Eyolfson is your professor, is that all lectures are both recorded and live-streamed, allowing attendance in person, online synchronously, or asynchronously. But if you have Ding Yuan, good luck. I heard he is not only bad at teaching, but also makes you program an operating system from scratch. The course content is quite interesting and the Midterm and final exams were fair.
ECE345 Algorithms and Data Structures
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 7/10 Course Average: B+
If you're one of those programming geniuses who have been doing Leetcode since like 3 years old, youâd have likely already learned all course content before youâve even started the course. You could probably write midterm and final exams without attending any lectures. However, if you're not as experienced, attending every lecture, taking detailed notes, and staying focused is crucial. Personally speaking, some algorithms were incredibly difficult for me to grasp, while others were simple. Assignments typically include both coding and long-answer components, which can be time-consuming, but you can work with a partner.
TEP444 Positive Psychology for Engineers
Difficulty: 1/10 Workload: 3/10 Course Average: A-
This course overall was very enjoyable and a nice refreshing experience from the other technical courses. You go on excursions to various locations with your group and write reports. It's an excellent opportunity to expand your social circle and make new friends. If you aim for an A- grade (80-85), you can breeze through with minimal effort. However, achieving a higher grade (A or A+) would require significantly more work (like 5 times more, no joke), which is not worth the extra effort in my opinion.
CSC343 Introduction to Databases
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 10/10 Course Average: Unreleased
The content of this course is actually pretty interesting and is taught well. But the assignments were excessively time consuming. There are only three in total, but each one demanded such a significant investment of time to the point where I contemplated dropping the course altogether. You do work with a partner (going solo isnât even an option if you want to complete the assignments) but even so, be prepared to invest 15-30 hours per person, per assignment (they also mark hard). Despite the workload, I do recommend taking this course because knowing SQL can substantially benefit you in the future. Just start the assignments early. On a positive note, the midterm and final were relatively straightforward.
ECE311 Introduction to Control Systems
Difficulty: 10/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: C+
This course didn't come with a heavy workload, consisting only of three labs and two midterms. However, I found the content to be very challenging. It felt like they condensed and combined every concept from every engineering math and physics course into one. Topics ranged from circuits and dynamics to Laplace transforms, matrices, Bode plots, and more. It didnât help that Prof Scardovi didnât record any lectures, has messy handwriting, and uses a damn chalkboard instead of modern technology like other profs do. The midterms and final were somewhat lenient compared to the lectures, but this course still ended up being my lowest mark.
ECE361 Computer networks I
Difficulty: 8/10 Workload: 9/10 Course Average: B
This course requires a lot of memorization compared to other courses. Youâll have to understand calculation processes but also memorize a lot of general knowledge about networks. A problem with this course is that some concepts that show up in tests are not adequately explained in lectures. By far the best way to study is to do past exams. Professor Valaee often recycles questions, sometimes even directly copying past midterms and finals (like he did in my cohort). Unlike other courses, there is no big assignment/lab for this course, but it makes up for it with quantity. Thereâs a quiz every week, a wireshark lab every 2 weeks, a programming lab every 2 weeks, and a midterm. The programming labs are already difficult by themselves, but this cumulative workload felt very overwhelming.
ECE472 Engineering Economics and Entrepreneurship
Difficulty: 7/10 Workload: 5/10 Course Average: B+
This is straight up an economics course, no engineering at all. Youâll learn about investments, equity, financing, and related areas. There are 4 quizzes throughout the semester, with quiz 3 (quiz 3 specifically) being by far the hardest (average in the 50s). Since you're able to bring your textbook to the quizzes and exam, my biggest tip is to write past quiz and exam solutions in your textbook, as there's a limited pool of questions, and new questions often resemble some kind of variation of past ones.
ECE421 Introduction to Machine Learning
Difficulty: 9/10 Workload: 7/10 Course Average: unreleased
While the course content itself may be challenging, surprisingly, the midterm and final exams were pretty easy. There's a slight discorrelation between the lecture material and what appears on the exams, but relying on past exams for preparation should be enough. The course leans heavily on mathematical concepts, much more so than APS360. The assignments were difficult and tedious but I recommend you work with others to complete it.
With that, I've covered my thoughts and tips for all the engineering courses I've completed. Transitioning into your next year in engineering, particularly if youâre transitioning from high school, can feel daunting. However, remember that you're not alone in this experience â many of your peers are facing similar challenges. If you need any more advice or have questions, feel free to reach out to me via DMs!

2024.05.16 22:09 ParfaitNo4010 For 3 years, I've been trying to make Sushi. The problem is, no one who sells fish will say "This fish is safe to eat raw." (FDA Food Code 2017 Freezing 3-402.11 and 3-402.12)
EDIT: Thank you Stony Cheff111! We have a winner. Reached out to the company, awaiting their response. Thank you for the solid lead mate!
IF YOU HAVE THE NAME OF A BRAND/MANUFACTURE/FARMEETC., A LINK, PLEASE DO SO. 1 COMMENTS SO FAR HAVE A DIRECT SOURCE FOR SAFE RAW FISH.
This post is to find the name of a SELLER of safe fish. (Not the people who use this fish to make sushi, the actual name of the group who sells the safe fish to other places, the distributor if you will) Not the type of fish, or the requirements (those are all included in the FDA code cited)
It seems so simple. With so many sushi creators around. Big chain and small stores. But when asked about "what raw salmon to buy" no one can name their supplier. Even in the comments, we don't see that result either.
A direct LINK to the product would be greatly appreciated!
Even costco, who sells Sushi, doesn't use the salmon they sell on the floor in their Sushi. When asked who supplies their fish for the Costoco Sushi, it's a global supplier who doesn't deal to customers spending less than a few grand.
So my question is: What name band, found in general US stores, Salmon or Tuna is safe to eat raw. (There's no such thing as 'sushi grade).
I've literally called every sushi store in over 100 mile radius, and no one can provide a name of a fish supplier, who freezes their fish (or harvests their fish from a farm) as per FDA code 3-402.11 and .12.
We know this law is followed, but finding supplies of the fish, has been impossible for me, and everyone I've asked (as I'm sure many comments will resolve to "Just trust 'em" "Been safe for me." heh, we're looking for a paper trail mates!)
Thank you for your leads!

2024.05.16 21:02 icarebear2 i donât think i want to be here anymore
multiple content warnings, iâm sorry, this will be long, this isnât even everything and itâs a damn book i am 19. i was 11 when i had to grow up. my parents decided to divorce after months of fighting, letting us know a week before my 12th birthday. you know, the classic divorce story. my dad moved out and my mom started dating people. it moved so fast. we moved to a different area, even though we had just moved into a new house a year earlier, leaving my childhood hometown behind. my mom was trying to pursue school so we were living on student aid and stamps. (i have 3 siblings, so there were 5 of us) i started middle school in that area and was doing pretty well off. then my mom got pretty serious with someone iâm going to call SOB, he doesnât deserve a name. my mom and SOB were dating for two months before that thing proposed to my mom. we met him once before he was labeled our step dad. my mom sat us down and told us weâd be moving to idaho to be closer to her family. come to find out, the whole reason for going there was because SOB is an ex convict and he couldnât leave idaho because thatâs were his parole was.
we were told at the time that he was framed for kidnapping and he had a whole story crafted to back it up. being a kid and needing my mom, i didnât ask or dig about it. so we moved to idaho. i started school there and immediately got death threats. i got called a hoe relentlessly for seemingly being pretty. eventually things calmed down and i had friends, but that place was tiny and once people have formed an opinion of you, thereâs no changing it, so it was hard to get around.
SOB was awful to my younger brother. weâll call this brother zayn. zayn has bad adhd and has always struggled with school. heâs one of the smartest people i know, but getting assignments in is not his forte. so as a result heâs never had the highest grades. SOB hated the fact that my brother wasnât doing great and would literally stand there and scream at him to get his work done. there was one time that i was in my room and i started to hear my brother screaming so immediately iâm upstairs to help him, SOB was literally chasing my brother around our house with a damn bat screaming at him like a demon was coming out. i yelled at him to leave my brother alone and things just got darker after that. me and my brother were scum to him and he ran our house like the hunger games. my other little brother and my older sister were prized jewels, they got everything they wanted and more, and SOB would rub it in our faces. he even gave my dog away, i went days worrying about her and looking because i thought she had ran away, to find out that some other person had my dog now and i wouldnât ever get her back.
fasting forward a little, SOB violated his parole by going on a trip that wasnât fully approved and got put back in jail right before christmas. my mom completely threw herself into trying to get him out. me and my sister noticed that my mom hadnât gotten a single thing to be santa for my brothers, so we scraped up the money we had to get gifts so my brothers wouldnât lose their christmas spirit seeing that santa didnât come when things were already so bad as it was. i love that i was able to do this for them, the smiles on their faces, i will never forget that christmas.
after a long time of having a very absent mother, she was able to get SOB out of jail. he came back even worse of a monster then when he left. he sexually assaulted my mom, committed all kinds of fraud, basically stole all of my papaâs retirement money, the list goes on. my mom decided she wanted a divorce and when he found out, he went crazy. he locked all of us out of our house and threw our things on the lawn. it rained, i lost so many things, a one of a kind paper mache venitian mask i had gotten on a trip with my dad to italy included.
itâs 2020 by now and we went on a trip to Texas, to meet the person my dad was dating. on the trip, I very much learned that she was not for my dad. but, all reasoning was in vain. my dad proposed, and we had literally just met her. so that was that my dad was engaged now and focused on trying to move them out to him and getting a new house. my mom decided at that time that she wanted to move too so we had a choice, move to my dads and go back to the area i grew up in, or go with my mom to another ranch town in idaho. i chose my dads. my brothers came with, but my sister stayed with my grandparents where we lived in idaho so she could graduate.
things were fine for a bit. my mom was dating a lot and even got engaged. then she told us about this other guy she had been seeing, who had given her a 500 mile ride home from somewhere. immediately suspicious, especially because she wouldnât drop a name. come to find out other guy was SOB. SOB proposes to her again and sheâs got two engagement rings from two different people. everyone was like, what the actual shit are you doing. my mom was in a very cooky state of mind, broke things off with the other guy, and stayed with SOB. there was a weekend in september that my cousin had something going on so my extended family and everything was all there and we decided there needed to be some kind of intervention. to keep things short, it didnât go well. my mom ended up leaving and she told me and my sister that she didnât want to be our mom anymore. found out through facebook a couple days later that my mom and SOB were married.
then came the everlasting fun of a custody battle. my step mom had gotten into my dads head saying he needed to take full custody. now i wasnât the biggest fan of my mom at the time, but that didnât mean i never wanted to see her. my parents hated each other. there were a few times in exchanges that the cops ended up being called.
for a while my dad had pretty bad anger issues. low blood sugar, overstimulation, bad smells, anything could set him off. i just so happened to have a very large target on my back so i got the brunt of everything. i wouldnât let him yell at my brothers and this resulted in me getting the lashings, but i would do it all again if that meant protecting my brothers. he wasnât angry all the time, there were a lot of good days, but it was definitely pretty tortuous for a while. a lot of the problem, which i knew would happen to begin with, was my step mom. she is one of the laziest people iâve ever known, which is the complete opposite of my dad. my dad likes to do things, heâs always active. so he was frustrated because he would want to do things with his wife there, and she would almost always refuse, so she could have a quiet day in bed. my step mom had also convinced herself that i was stealing from her. she ransacked my room multiple times, to no avail. she took my car keys âuntil she could prove i was taking things from herâ and i only got them back because they were sick of giving me rides places. she actually ended up stealing some of my things trying to claim they were hers, so she hid them and i havenât seen them since.
so yeah i got yelled at a lot, accused of being a thief, and my relationship with my mom was shit + the joys of high school. i have been doing musical theater my whole life. when i first got to my new high school i was so excited because, although i wasnât able to audition for the productions companies that year, the teacher told me i was a shoe in for the next year. she ended up leaving and we got a new teacher, if you can even call her that. so itâs my junior year, the first year with her, and it wasnât bad, i got some good parts and did really well. i ended up getting nominated for an award for one of my performances and it was at this time, i donât know what happened, but she did not like me anymore. she told me that she accepted the nomination for me, but i found out not too long later that she never accepted it and i was in favor to win so the judges were very puzzled by it. she accepted my friends nominations and kinda rubbed it in my face that i never got anything back. likeâ awe are you sad because you didnât hear anything from the judges? well so and so over here didđâ
the summer after that year i cut my hair pretty short. i wouldnât say iâm not âgirlyâ but i definitely have a more masculine âbroâ persona comparatively. so now itâs my senior year, it matters a lot more at this point to try for good parts because itâs my last run. to keep it simple, my teacher wouldnât cast me because i was too masculine, not even as a guy ?? idk make it make sense. i got one part my entire senior year, and i know itâs not because iâm bad. but i wrote and produced my own show that ended up being 100x the quality of the shows she produced, so i did get redemption. long story short, it really sucks to watch the peers your just as good as continue to succeed, while you get kicked out of the room for being distracting when you havenât said a word. the reason they didnât like me ? iâm good at improv, i kid you not i was told i was too creative and it bothered them. i know my presence scared the teachers there because iâm not a classic conformist theater kid that does anything and everything the teacher says.
anyways, so after years of trying to rekindle a relationship with my mom, fighting with an ass teacher and getting yelled at almost daily, a lot of worth questioning, and a flurry of weed later, i graduated.
both of my brothers in this time attempted to end their lives and were in facilities for a bit. i decided at that time to move in with my mom to hopefully help our relationship. it did a lot. me and my mom are best friends now. but it hasnât been because of nothing. SOB had become the most controlling narcissistic asshole and my mom was just acting having any feelings for him so he wouldnât take everything away from her. he monitored everything my mom did. he hit my mom in an intimate moment, and almost beat zayn, but i covered him and ended up slicing my arm open on our fireplace, once again i would do this 100 times over to protect my brother. i decided i wanted to dig everything up on him that i could. what i found was mortifying. i wonât go into too much detail, but there were a lot of charges, multiple of them being SA of a child. i vowed at that moment that i would do anything it takes to get him back behind bars. heâs actively on the offender list and he works across the street from a preschool, not on my fukin watch ass hat.
i will never forget the true terror on my moms face that that man caused. it got to the point where my mom would get really scared if she started crying because she knew heâd freak out at her if he noticed. i came back to my locked room, that i have the only key to, with holes in my walls in weird places, and in my bathroom too. a couple days before, my brother found a camera in his room, so i knew what it was and that SOB was spying on me. i taped them all up and came to stay at my bfs house and have been here since. after months of his treacherous cycle my mom had enough and left to a safe house, sheâs there now. the divorce is going though but from some reason the stupid system denied my mom a protective order against him. he has full access to our house and things right now, and heâs trying to make 90,000 so he can baile his way out of the insurance fraud case against him that could get him back in jail in june. iâm so worried heâs selling my things because he so would. everything i have left is in that house and itâs all at his whim now.
when i moved in with my mom, i started a job at a fancy high end restaurant because i knew it would be good money. iâve had problems with this my entire life, but ever since starting my job there, i have experienced countless creeps who have sexualized me in more ways then i thought possible. itâs made me feel so worthless. itâs people i work with and people who come in. drunk guys from the bar are the worst, and theyâre all filthy rich so they donât care about a thing in the world. i need to quit but i donât know where else to go
my dad has now decided as of like two weeks ago, that he will be moving to florida. i never anticipated him moving across the country and leaving the last place i could call home. he also started therapy a couple months ago and his anger issues are pretty much nonexistent at this point. so i got my dad back but now heâs leaving again. i always hoped that as i got older, my family would always be pretty close, close enough that i could seem them once a week if i wanted. itâs really killing me because i was so close to that, to getting my family back. my sister has been in france the last couple years and sheâs coming back in a couple weeks. my dad will be moving almost immediately after. we finally got to a point where my mom is free, my dad is happy, weâre all healing, and now my family will be broken up more then ever before by distance. my parents donât hate each other anymore, my sister is coming home, we would all be able to spend time together again, never more.
so iâm at this point now, where iâve been fighting for my family, taking every hit with hope in my heart for something i was so close to having, for 7 years iâve been hoping. and just like that, the light at the end of this very long, cold and dark tunnel fades, and iâm left once again, in the cold dark nothingness that is hoping for a better day, that will never come.
so iâm left questioning, is overcoming another mountain worth it if thereâs a whole range of painful climbing ahead of me? iâm so tired, my whole body hurts every day, my mind and soul are toiled with the pain of my lifetime, everyone in my family is moving on with their own paths and itâs only a matter of time before iâm only hearing from them every once in a while. i donât want to do life, the world is so messed up right now and i donât see it getting better. thereâs too much pain and i canât handle it. nothing seems worth hoping let alone living for anymore. i bid you adieu and wish you all the best đ

2024.05.16 20:21 Ali00100 OpenFOAM blockMesh definition?
I am a beginner to OpenFOAM 11 so apologies in advance if this is a simple question.
So I am trying to simulate a wind tunnel test of an aircraft and I am currently trying to mesh using snappyHexMesh. My process that I am following is creating a poor mesh using blockMesh, then refining that mesh using snappy. The geometry is basically a wind tunnel (box) and the aircraft is inside of it.
I built the blockMesh file such that I mesh the wind tunnel (no aircraft is mentioned in the blockMesh), and then I refine the mesh of the tunnel and add refinements for the aircraft as well in the snappy. The issue I am facing is that after snappy is ran (with no errors) and I go to the polymesh folder, in the boundary file I can only see that the tunnel is meshed, nothing about the aircraft is mentioned. So I am starting to think that maybe I should have mentioned the aircraft in the blockMesh as well? Although that's not the impression I got when reading the documentation so I am confused a bit. Here is my blockMeshDict:
FoamFile { version 2.0; format ascii; class dictionary; object blockMeshDict; } convertToMeters 1; vertices ( (-0.5 -0.884 0.9675) // vertex 0 (-0.5 -0.884 -0.9675) // vertex 1 (-0.5 0.884 -0.9675) // vertex 2 (-0.5 0.884 0.9675) // vertex 3 (2 -0.884 0.9675) // vertex 4 (2 -0.884 -0.9675) // vertex 5 (2 0.884 -0.9675) // vertex 6 (2 0.884 0.9675) // vertex 7 ); blocks ( hex (0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7) (50 25 25) simpleGrading (1 1 1) // Coarser mesh ); edges ( ); boundary ( bleeding { type patch; faces ( (0 3 4 7) // Bottom face of the tunnel (1 2 5 6) // Top face of the tunnel ); } walls { type wall; faces ( (0 1 4 5) // right face of the tunnel (2 3 6 7) // left face of the tunnel ); } inlet { type patch; faces ( (0 1 2 3) // inlet of the tunnel ); } outlet { type patch; faces ( (4 5 6 7) // outlet of the tunnel ); } ); mergePatchPairs ( );

2024.05.16 19:47 Dr_Cy-Cyanide How to Navigate Math Classes in College
So basically, I'm terrible at math. I've consistently kept a 3.9-4.0 GPA every semester and I'm becoming increasingly more scared to take a college level math class.
My issues started because I moved around so much as a kid that I never properly learned how to do division and multiplication until I was in 6th grade. And I still struggle because I feel like I'm always behind no matter what. As a result I haven't taken a legitimate math class since 10th grade, which I passed with a whopping 68% (the worst grade I've ever gotten:/) to get myself through highschool I took 5 science classes and 3 math classes to meet my state's requirement. The last class being a "math for the real world" class where I learned how to budget, do taxes, etc. I did amazing in that class, best math class I've ever had, simple assignments and it all made sense. But I cannot do algebra, geometry, none of it to save my life. I even tried chemistry because I like science, and I'm lucky I passed that class with a C because I'm so terrible at math.
Now I'm scared that my math credit is rolling up on me. I'll have to take 17 credits a semester next year to graduate on time, and I'm concerned it will only get harder to manage a math class as I get closer to my thesis level. Does anyone have ANY advice on how to quickly become better at math, more specifically algebra? I can't afford to take the hit on my grade, as my scholarship will be put on academic probation if I don't maintain above a 3.5 GPA.

2024.05.16 18:32 Fatherbliss Put up your Dookems [OOK] We need YOU for alliances!
Hello and welcome to the greatest and most spectacular alliance community ever developed!
What's that? You say you haven't heard of us before? This is okay. It is natural for the hidden Ooken masters to appear when you need them most.
Our goals are simple:
· Play both WvW and sPVP in the most annoying, satisfying, gratifying manner possible
· Zero schedules because those cause intestinal cramping
· Show up when you can, contribute where you will and spread your Dookems wide
· Collaborate and elaborate on builds together...but only if they cause sadness
· Understand that the best games in life are played with spoons
Put up your Dookems revolves around one very important rule: Absolutely ZERO DOOKERS in here. None. Not gonna happen. We routinely each night go out of our way to Ook everyone right up their Dooker. We send invitations beforehand in order to make sure that everyone is invited to the thighmaster brigade.
Some of our most famous events include:
- Which way are the Yaks REALLY going? Does anyone know?
- I walk 5,000 range to deliver my messages of love to you
- Portal? I hardly knew em!
- Conquest of the Ruins that kinda look like that weird birthday cake we had in 2nd grade with the melted Elmo face. But dammit mom tried.
- Dancing with no bearings letting our wheels fall off
- Eruption of Mustache Wax
Alliances: Okay our game plan for this is to gather like minded people. Do you enjoy home BL defense? So DO WE. Do you enjoy outnumbered fights and grabbing whatever is close by to squeeze it repeatedly? SAME. This a group of friends, sons, fathers, some moms, a dance pavilion and a solid block of cheese.
If these and other PVP games like "who stole my enormous potato" appeal to you, check us out.

2024.05.16 17:35 Final-Refuse7545 Can somebody please help me understand my classmates?
Hi. So, for context, I'm a younger millenial who decided to go back to college at the age of 27. My very first university experience was horrible and it took years to gather the courage to try again. I applied to both a different school and a different degree than the previous time, and I love it. The environment at the other school, a large public one, was cold, competitive and isolating. I stayed there way longer then I ever should've, because of how ingrained in me it was that any college degree is important and once you start one, you should stick it out. Except I really did feel that degree in particular was useless, with not that many work oppurtunities and a toxic, soul-sucking environment.
Now, I've joined a smaller private university, which is well ranked internationally and to study a subject that I'm genuinely passionate about.
The one issue with private universities in my country is that their standards on admission are very low. The teachers are still amazing and very fair, and although they do go a little easier on us that at my former school, they still grade you according to the grade you deserve (basically just because its easy to get in, doesn't mean it's easy to get out). So yes, there is a bit of a stigma where I'm from that, in private universities, you pay to get in and aren't actually smart or deserving (yet another reason why it took me so long to gather up the courage to take the leap and apply). But once, you're in, everybody's paying the same, and everybody is treated the same.
I do think a lot of my classmates' behaviour can be attributed to this - they weren't good students before, they've never really built the work ethic my very strict and very honest mother raised me with (and which a lot of my own millenial classmates in ''high school'' - secondary school here - also didn't have). A lot of them genuinely do not want to be here, and have said so. Their parents are paying and they come because ''they're made to''. For even more context, this school's tuition is about 3, maybe even 4 times now with inflation, the amount you would pay for a public university education - it isn't like the United States, it doesn't cost so much that people go into debt for years, but it is still a lot of money to come up with.
Aside from a few older students, and one or two who are around my age, most of them will have been born at around 2003 and 2004, plus a couple people who were 20 when we started first year.
A significant amount of them are extremely poorly behaved and disrespectful to our teachers. They can get extremely loud to the point several teachers have lost their patience and told them off (kinda the way it used to happen when I was in 8th grade, about a million years ago). It got to the point where I genuinely considered bringing earplugs to wear in the classes that took place in the anfitheaters, where the echo makes it genuinely painful to have that must noise.
A few of them either have been caught cheating, or have openly admited that they cheat. It has been reinforced again and again since week one how important it is that everybody in this program knows english, because in our area, all cientific papers must always be published in english, regardless of what country the study originated from. To facilitate things, an english class was added to our first year...which people regularly didn't show up to, a few of them have failed several times and have not made even the slightest effort to learn, resorting instead to automated translation softwares, which are very unreliable and more often than not will not convey the information correctly. This part confuses me greatly, because so much of the media people consume in this country is not dubbed. Shows, movies, music and so much stuff available for free on youtube is in english. That's how I myself learned. Except they don't seem to even want to try.
I've had several nightmare group projects experiences, to the point where even my therapist has agreed with me that I'm better off doing my work alone whenever I have the chance, because this isn't benificial socialization and it's hindering me and stressing me out more than it is building any skills. I had one girl disappear from a large period of time and then text me one week before the due date asking what the project was about (we had talked about it in person and I had emailed her several articles I found and had even told her to pick one to highlight).
When it was time to do the presentation, I told her to read carefully the parts of the source material that explained in more depth the things she was supposed to cover in her turn to speak. Instead, she read directly from the slides, and even read it wrong (said ''resposability'' instead of ''responsivity''). When the teacher asked her questions, she straight up didn't know.
Recently, two people I was doing a group project with tried to hire me to plagirize a report for them and we got into a fight that basically led me to strom out of a group project for the first time in my life and ask the teacher to grade me individually (she's amazing and was very accomodating and understanding). Found out the only reason those two wanted to work with me in the first place was because they were using me for grades, because I usually do super well in research projects and end up having high grades, which in a group project will bump up their own grades and let them barely pass the class. One simple conversation with them made quite clear they didn't actually understand the article we were supposed to be analyzing at all and I simply got fed up.
Now, earlier today, I was in the library, revising for a test I had and someone had stuck chewing gum on the bottom of the chair I was sitting in and now I have a huge white stain on my leggings that I can't get off.
That was kinda the final straw for me, because, not even back when I was in school, in 1st to 12th grade did this ever happen to me...
I'm sorry, but I really needed to vent...I really want to believe that not everyone is like this, but they have really been testing my patience lately.

2024.05.16 16:56 LuchoSabeIngles Film emulation with no budget
Howdy!
Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm currently developing a project to shoot with my college friends over the summer, since we're all staying in town. The plan is to get it done in time to show it at a local theater on the first Friday of classes, then dump it onto Tubi. Basically, we want to see if we can get an hour-long popcorn movie in the can by then, just for fun.
Because we're a bunch of broke engineering students, we don't really have a budget. However, I'm trying to make this look as good as we can with what we have. We'll be shooting with cameras that only go up to about 2K, since the alternative is shooting the whole thing on a phone and we'd rather have something with physical lenses. Camera movement's going to be pretty limited, since the whole handheld thing tends to make cheap movies look cheaper. We are designing some simple cranes and dollies using pipes and stuff, though, plus we have a couple entry-level 3D printers between the lot of us. We're keeping CGI to a minimum, since we only have one guy on that and I don't want to overwork him. Sound's going to be mono, with a bandpass to get more of a retro feel.
The main thing I'm wondering about, though, is the grading.
I got the free version of DaVinci Resolve, which looks like it doesn't have much in the way of grain emulation. Since I don't want to have to upgrade (though I probably will at some point), I'm planning on just putting some sort of grain overlay over it. However, it always bugs me when I see movies that screw up the emulation process. I've read up on Steve Yedlin's stuff and watched a lot of movies that do it right (The Holdovers, The Forbidden Room, etc.), so I've gotten a decent idea of how to do it.
TL;DR here's my plan (again, using the FREE version of DaVinci Resolve):
- Get FilmUnlimited by Juan Melara. From the description, it looks like the only thing it can't do with DaVinci Free is the grain, but we still get all the halation, gate weave, and all that. This runs about $90 if I don't get the in-camera LUTs.
- Find some sort of grain overlay. I've looked at a lot of them, but haven't found one that looks good for the price yet. Something under $100 would be great (under $50 would be incredible).
- Try to make it look as good as it can WITHOUT the emulation. I'm nerding out about all this stuff, but the truth is if we don't have a decent image coming in, no amount of film emulation is going to fix it. It's a touch-up, not a final product.
Do any of you have any tips or recommendations, either on the workflow or on a good grain overlay to use? Again, this is just an aesthetic thing, so if I can't find anything I'll just add some defocus and grain like Ti West did with X. I'm mostly just trying to make it look a little less sharp and digital.
Thanks so much for your help!
EDIT:
After reading the responses, I went ahead and installed Filmbox Lite. Iâll run some tests and let yâall know how it goes!

2024.05.16 16:10 HellLizard Mastery suggestions for a better player experience
| I've been thinking about some small tweaks to the Mastery system that could add some interesting aspects. Nothing too complex, just some simple ideas for having a better experience and maybe more clarity in the player profile. - 1. Champion Mastery Points Display on Players Profile
Instead of showcasing the best grade (that on the first days you reach to S+), why not prioritize what truly reflects a player's dedication: their mastery points. Replacing the current display with the total mastery points earned with each champion would offer a more meaningful snapshot of a player's experience and dedication. This change serves as a badge of honor for their time invested on the champion besides the mastery rank. https://preview.redd.it/tcqqgo15ms0d1.png?width=1172&format=png&auto=webp&s=76035247d961ce7f0df2069124416485eb5172fb - 2. Customizable Mastery 10 Banner Colors
Being able to personalize your Mastery 10 banner color to better match the aesthetics of your favorite champion I think is a good customizable option for your profile. This simple addition would allow players to further showcase their style by selecting a banner color that complements the champion they've mastered. Whether it's red for Katarina or Ornn or a blue for Jinx or Hecarim, this small customization option would add a touch of personality to each player's profile while flexing their top-tier mastery champion. - 3. Toggle Option for Mastery Emote in Game (most controversial)
Introducing a simple toggle button (like legacy cursor) that allows players to switch between the old and new mastery emote only in-game . Whether you prefer the old system or the newer one, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and satisfied with their mastery emote ingame. The only "real" change would be to add the mastery rank into the old mastery emote. Note: this would defeat the purpose of the new mastery changes, I know, but wanted to suggest it. submitted by HellLizard to leagueoflegends [link] [comments] |

2024.05.16 14:48 Sunako-Kirishiki Electric effects & Warbond Idea
Electricity should do double damage to bots with strong staggestuns; for bugs, it should do normal damage and light stagger, but also have a chance (with increased chance the smaller the bug), to stunlock the bug it hits directly (with a lesser chance per subsequent arc). It would be funny to have a rare or so special animation for the bug stun that is a straightening/contraction of the bug's limbs giving it rigid limbs and allow it to fall over using the standard ragdoll physics.
If they are to make a electricity themed warbond it should stay more on theme than we have been getting in the past, I would imagine it would look something like what ai have proposed below.
Side note: due to limited thought placed into balancing the damage placeholder examples, they likely would need a serious change or two, as they are just loose estimates that seemed good at the time of typing.
Warbond name Ideas "Shock Troopers" "Tesla Terrors" "Super Charged"
Grenade ideas:
Electric "aoe" Grenade does the same effect as shooting the blitzer in 5 directions and arc thrower 3 times at detonation point, so it has high possible single target damage or multi target damage
An alternate could be funtionaly thermite grenade style, but a hi cap power cell that stabs into a target to latch on and acts as a temporary mini arc tower directly on the target but can still work if missed as a small range weak defense tower with short lifespan and limited hp if not invulnerable. It would provide arc thrower blasts every other second or so for as is good for balance.
Other Alternative could be just like the first, but with single target only damage where the grenade has a instant discharge that arcs to one target, the biggest unit in its set range; where it just strikes the flooenvironment if no units are in its radius. It wouls do heavy damage of course and a strong stagger to targets that arent instantly killed. (Instant kills a devestator and brood commander, maybe a stalker.)
Primary ideas:
SEAF SPIEDR (spider) Special Provisions Issued Electric Dischargeing Rifle. A marksman type rifle/energy weapon that is similar to the scorcher in regular use but with a delay before fireing each shot like the initial delay of the sickle, can tap to fire without needing to hold the fire button like sickle, it is semi auto or a slow (but not slower than achievable with semi) full auto and it hits one target per shot without any arcs at maybe 25% of the damage of the Blitzer while being fairly accurate and long range. Uses high capacity battery cells that look like 9 volt batteries for ammo at ~20 shots per cell (displayed with charge meter on rifle) has an alt fire setting that utilizes a pre chargeing pump mechanism located on the bottom like the blitzer, useing the same blitzer reload animation that eliminates the pre-fire delay of the next shot and consumes increments of 5 units of charge per pump for added damage. (can pump with sub 5 for the remaining 4,3,2, or units of charged damage potential). Precharged shots are indicated with a 0 to 4 circular light dot on each capacitor located on the rifle. Charged firing uses a proportional aesthetic in regards to arc thickness, brightness, and in its sounds on discharge/fireing. Charged fireing uses a diminishing return system where each 5 units of charge are worth 100%-75%-50%-25% damage efficency potential per unit of charged shot damage. This means each unit of charge at an example damage of 80 dmg (example base uncharged shot damage) then charged ahot values in pumps of 5 would give full damage per unit of charge at first pump giving a total of 400 dmg.then at 75% each for second pump it would total 700 (400 + 300), then 3 pump charge is 900 (400 + 300 + 200) while the last pump would only offer an extra 100 dmg capping at 1000 dmg total with these example numbers. And of course, I would be using the full mag in the process of firing one shot at 4 pumps. Also, when holding a charge, it adds an aesthetical electrical sparking along the barrels capacitors (4 small cylinders holding power on the gun itself outside of the battery before fireing / dischargeing). when keeping primed a charged shot the energy in it will slowly discharge at 1 shot's worth of damage per 10 seconds *after initial 10 seconds since last pump however the drainage stops at 1 remaining shots worth of capacity, leaving the user with a visable indication in the form of a minor sparking affect to display that its no longer brimming with power but in its weakened state is still primed to fire without any pre shot delay.
Reaper (R.E.A.P.R) Rapid Electrical Arc Pulse Rifle The second primary should be a moderate paced auto arc gun that after arc guns pre shot delay fires steady zap zip zap zip zap like pummeler or liberator concusive at around 8% to 15% of the stratagem grade arc gun damage; ahould have a large box style battery on the back of the rifle holding 100 shots, with 2 spares. Can use semi-auto to full auto and has 150% of the range of the flamethrower.
Ideas for Secondaries:
SEAF Standard Emergancy kit Handgun Simple starter handgun style but slower firerate, 60 dmg thin electrical textured blue laser peojectile (like a smaller sickle projectile but lightning) that uses a cool down function for ammo economy and when fireing has a safe mode that fires at max rate that it can without risking overheating, and an unsafe mode that can fire as fast as the starter handgun but can overheat using up a heatsink)
Project H.B aka Honey Bee A bug or bot movement arrestor A larger handgun that resembles a smaller barreled grenade pistol that uses a bee stinger esque barbed dart projectile with its medium armor penetrating barbed conical anchor pointed caseing that holds an impact activated module which starts an incremental electrical stun gun style energy discharge. In practice it handles just like the grenade pistol. However like the thermite grenade these projectiles will stick to the target. They will deal an initial damage 400 or so, then will begin to provide electical stuning effects and damage in pulses starting ~2 seconds after impact, it should apply a stun release stun release effect that will immobilize and deal an additional yet nominal electrica type damage from those stunning pulses. (For balance reasons, if the effect cant apply to any strong units such as hulks or tanks, it should at least cause a quick and light stagger per pulse on the hulks that reduce accuracy and for tanks should just reduce accuracy and or disallow fireing of the main gun *if it is the normal cannon tank)

2024.05.16 14:15 DatBoyGuru Monsgeek M1W-SP HE magnetic switches keyboard review
| Gaming & Enthusiast grade This $159 is designed to cater to 2 groups of users- the gamer group and the custom keyboard group. As far as pre built keyboards go this has endgame specs. MacOS, Win and Win+ batt mode, Tri-mode connection including BT connection to 3 devices, lightning 8K polling, magnetic switches, Continuous Rapid Trigger, Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap and Toggle Key. I tested the the custom actuation point on the switches and used it on the Apex Legends superglidetrainer and got 83% potential superglides. I got 12% potential on my Neo65. Hall Effect keyboards have been around for 2 years now and it's really becoming mainstream with gamers and this means the custom keyboard group also wants in on the action. The all aluminum body, south facing LEDs, fade side-printed PBT keycaps all add to the allure of this prebuilt design. It's got a 6000mAh battery for you to go mobile but honestly the 4.4lbs might not facilitate this without hurting your back. Apparently you can go wireless for 150 days without RGB on and around 8 days with it on. south facing LED and side printed keycaps I noticed this keyboard wouldn't take my custom USBC cable with the aircraft connection, and after some troubleshooting I realized it only worked normally with the provided cable. I think this has to do with the 8K polling capabilities and it would need a specialty cable to provide the power or data speed perhaps. In the box you also get some force break mod stickers and a large tape mod sticker if you decide to do some simple DIY mods. As far as sound profile goes, i feel the magnetic switches still cannot deliver the thock or clack most custom keyboard enthusiasts go for. I'm sure the mods would improve the sound quality but i don't know by how much. It's not a terrible sounding board, it's just not what keyboard enthusiasts are accustomed to. However, I think the performance and and looks it delivers will overcome this minor blemish on the Monsgeek. Overall I think this keyboard style and performance will make gamers take a second look over other HE boards that are priced in this bracket with plastic bodies and 60% layouts. the LED lights aren't so bright I also made a video. Say hello in the chat! submitted by DatBoyGuru to keyboards [link] [comments] |

2024.05.16 10:44 _Citrus_Friend Should I take music A-Level?
I'm in year 11 now, almost at the end. Our options haven't been confirmed yet so i can change them if i wish. I've had an interest in music for a long while and I put it down as an A-level option but now I'm really starting to wonder if I should take music or biology/medical science.
The course we did for music GCSE is RSL so not really a real GCSE which I fear has put me at a disadvantage considering everyone else would have done the WJEC exam (like AQA but for Wales). This puts me at a disadvantage because they would have learnt things in the WJEC course that would help me for A-levels whereas the course I did (RSL) hasn't done much for me at all.
The entry requirements are I'm pretty sure a grade 3 in a music instrument or a grade B in music at GCSE (or equivalent). My predicted grade for the RSL course is a distinction so I'm pretty sure I'd still be able to get into the A-level course if I wanted to. However, I haven't yet done debut grade in guitar but I do know music theory (to a simple extent) and I have an AMAZING guitar teacher outside of school who said he'd help me get through the A-level if I do take it.
I'm just unsure wheather the A-level will be difficult seeing as I only have limited knowledge in music and theory but it was something I've wanted to do for a while but now I'm starting to change my mind. I'm unsure what exactly I want to go into when I'm older but I'd love to work in psychology, preferably a music therapist but I feel like it would be an extremely hard job to get into.
So far I'm taking English lan and lit, Psychology (or sociology, and then music or biology/medical science. They're all quite writing and memory heavy subjects if I do choose to go with biology or medical science instead of music so now I'm just unsure what to do đ
I apologise if this was a little too long but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
