2024.05.17 12:01 AutoModerator Weekly 'I made a useful thing' Thread - May 17, 2024

There is a great deal of user-generated content out there, from scripts and software to tutorials and videos, but we've generally tried to keep that off of the front page due to the volume and as a result of community feedback. There's also a great deal of content out there that violates our advertising/promotion rule, from scripts and software to tutorials and videos.
We have received a number of requests for exemptions to the rule, and rather than allowing the front page to get consumed, we thought we'd try a weekly thread that allows for that kind of content. We don't have a catchy name for it yet, so please let us know if you have any ideas!
In this thread, feel free to show us your pet project, YouTube videos, blog posts, or whatever else you may have and share it with the community. Commercial advertisements, affiliate links, or links that appear to be monetization-grabs will still be removed.

2024.05.17 10:00 Background-Shake-262 AITA for Telling My Sister She Can't Use My Wedding as a Platform for Her Book Launch?

My (28F) wedding is coming up in two months, and my fiancé, Dave (30M), and I are excited to finally get married after being together for seven years. We’ve been planning everything to make sure our day is perfect.
My sister, Emma (26F), is an aspiring author. She’s been working on her first novel for the past few years and recently finished it. While I'm glad she found something she likes, I’m not thrilled with her recent idea.
A few weeks ago, Emma told me she was planning a big book launch. I was excited for her until she said she wanted to do it at my wedding reception. She thought it would be perfect because so many family and friends would be there, and it would save her the cost of planning a separate event.
I was shocked and told her that I didn’t think it was a good idea. Our wedding day is supposed to be about Dave and me, not about promoting her book. I suggested she could hand out invitations for a separate launch party instead. I talked to Dave and even he agreed
Emma was furious. She accused me of being selfish and not supporting her dreams. She argued that it wouldn’t take much time and would actually add excitement to the event. She even suggested that it could be her wedding gift to us – a way to entertain the guests. At that time I honestly thought that she had some faulty wiring in her brain.
I stood my ground and said no, which led to a huge argument. Now, Emma isn’t speaking to me, and my parents are pressuring me to reconsider. They think it’s a reasonable request and that I should be more accommodating. Well it's nothing new thwy always do that .They say family should support each other and that I’m being too stubborn.
Here's some background: Emma has always been the "golden child" in my parents' eyes. They’ve enabled her for years, letting her live with them rent-free and covering most of her expenses, even though she's never held a job or earned a penny on her own. She went to an arts college where she discovered her passion for writing.Emma is lucky she can write well, but it’s frustrating to see her get a free pass on everything just because she's the favourite one and can write well.
I'm no saint. During our argument, I said some nasty things and riled her up even more because I was so furious. Years of built-up frustration and feeling second to her just came out all at once. I regret how I handled it now, but I also feel strongly that my wedding day should be about me and Dave.
I've been getting texts every day from my parents .... They aren't agressive or anything but today they said that "I'm being a kid ,I was never like this".....How do I tell them that I have always suffered being the obedient matured girl they always had but never valued enough.
I'm furious and writing this as fast as I can do forgive me for any grammatical mistake. I feel conflicted.
I want to support my sister just to make things go back to normal but I'm also tired of my family, what do I do how do I handle it??
AITAH for refusing to let her use my wedding as a platform for her book?????

2024.05.17 08:52 Hopeful-Mammoth-8991 Could SN be a good fit for my team?

Apologies if I am breaking any subreddit rules here. I'm trying to identify if SN could be a good fit for us. I'd also be open to anyone who wishes to DM about this topic or give me a demo of their SN setup. I know this subreddit will be biased but I wanted to hear from those who actually work with the product before I talk to any sales reps.
I am one of about a dozen developers on a team that's specialized in the Hyland OnBase WorkView case/document management platform. We've been using it for over a decade and have built a lot of successful client projects with it, but the drawbacks have reached a point where we are looking for a replacement. Ideally the new platform is something that our team of developers can learn and become proficient with relatively quickly. We'd also be open to hiring some people with SN experience, and/or bringing in a professional services group to get us on track.
A typical client project for our team is to build a case management system that a state government office of 25-50 case workers would use to enroll applicants in a program to receive some type of assistance. Case workers would perform a series of checklist and document reviews on the applicants' cases and move their case through a variety of steps from intake to closeout. Third party users may also log in to this system and perform their own reviews of cases. Users might be grouped into teams and can only see cases assigned to their team.
Not all our projects follow this model, it's just become a common one for us. I've only spent a couple hours reading about SN, skimming through some of the videos on their website, so I still need to do more research, but I wanted to lay out some info about our current platform below. I would love to hear feedback from the SN crowd here about how it compares relative to the pros/cons listed below, and anything in particular you love/hate about it, things you wish you knew about it before you started, etc.

A lehenga, also known as lehnga or langa, is a traditional Indian garment that consists of three pieces: a skirt (lehenga), a blouse (choli), and a dupatta (a long scarf or shawl). Here are the key components in detail:
Lehenga (Skirt): The lehenga for Women is a long, flowing skirt that is typically heavily embroidered, beaded, or embellished. It is often made from rich fabrics such as silk, satin, velvet, or georgette and can be designed in a variety of styles, including A-line, mermaid, or circular. The skirt is usually worn at the waist and may have a drawstring or zipper for closure.
Choli (Blouse): The choli is a fitted blouse that is often short, leaving the midriff exposed. It can be styled in numerous ways, with variations in sleeve length, neckline, and back design. Like the lehenga, the choli is often decorated with embroidery, beadwork, or sequins to match the skirt.
Dupatta (Scarf): The dupatta is a long scarf or shawl that complements the lehenga and choli. It can be draped over the shoulders, around the neck, or over the head, and is often adorned with matching embellishments.
Lehengas are popular attire for weddings, festivals, and special occasions in South Asia, particularly in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. They come in a wide range of colors, designs, and levels of intricacy, making them a versatile and cherished garment in South Asian fashion.

2024.05.17 07:21 sandyeggo89 Places like Coin Op, Punch Bowl Social for events?

My financé and I are thinking of having a 50p wedding reception somewhere with games instead of a traditional dinnedance. Bowling would be great because both our families love it, but we’re open to other kinds of similar venues. We want to stick to SD county. Hopefully a place that caters for parties too. My office has had Christmas parties at Coin Op, Punch Bowl Social and Tavern + Bowl, and though I like those places I want to check out venues that I haven’t been to for work, you know? They’re not off the list yet, just trying to figure out what else is out there.
And if you’ve done an event at such a place and are ok sharing what it cost, I’d be grateful. My office party at Tavern + Bowl was $5800 with food and drinks (beer, wine and well liquor) so that’s about the budget we’re shooting for.

2024.05.17 07:01 Available-Record3242 Group therapy refusing entry to all latecomers

New account so not sure if this will get posted but I've just joined a new hospital outpatient program and am incredibly bothered by their strict late policies for patients. If they are an hour late, even if they gave notice in morning, they are turned away, only special considerations but I'm unsure what that means. Most patients are only recently out of inpatient as well so they are still quite sensitive and easy to disregulate.
My past place of work we didn't make a big deal if someone was late. We had a phone we checked to see who was unable to attend or who was late and replied with a quick acknowledgement. Most of the time lateness came from someone who was in distress or had a physical health issue and we were happy that they managed to come in because you see the difference for many just being in a therapy space within a few hours obviously. If someone was continually late and didn't seem to have a reason we'd take them aside and have a quick chat, usually this was enough for them to come on time
There's no loss of money for the hospital with someone coming in late and I am incredibly concerned for the well-being of a patient in distress who is turned away from my group. I'm not even made aware it happens at the reception desk. The administration are quite cold and we've already had numerous frustrating miscommunications.
Before I make a big deal I want thoughts from others on this.

2024.05.17 06:50 Choice_Rutabaga_6624 Eloping, bridal shower, snd larger ceremony after. Is it possible?

My fiance is trying to plan out when we want to get married. There already has been much drama about the date we are picking. Another option that someone mentioned to us is to elope and have a ceremony later.
We talked more about it and we like the option of being able to pick and at a later date do a wedding. Could we still do pre-wedding events like bridal party, bachelobachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, etc? My bridesmaids want to still honor these things for me and my fiance .
We would want to keep our eloping on the downlow and have a bigger wedding later. Like eloping sometime in 2025 and having a ceremony and reception wedding in spring of 2026.
We didn’t know if we would keep this a secret from guests and have our wedding be like the “first time”. But we don’t want to deceive our friends and family about when we got married.
We are just so lost in all of this and just need some help and guidance on what to do or go about this.

They are hosted by volunteers from the community to create a dedicated space each week to discuss what has happened in that drama for that week. On-Air drama discussions reduce clutter on the front page of the subreddit by centralizing discussion and all related content, such as news updates, previews, interviews, behind the scenes videos, etc.. For currently airing dramas with On-Air discussions, no other discussion posts are allowed, see our full Rules for details.
A schedule of current On-Airs can be seen in our sidebar. See the latest On-Air discussions and here is our On-Air Discussions Roster, which links all our previous On-Air discussions.
Want to learn more about our On-Air Discussions system? Feel passionately about an upcoming drama and want to host its weekly On-Air Discussions? See our full explanation, guidelines and policies on On-Air Discussions here.
Drama Reviews
We welcome well-written detailed drama reviews. Reviews should be for completed series only -- that is the series has finished airing all of its episodes and the reviewer has watched the entire drama. Reviews where the reviewer has not fully completed the drama will be removed. For those that just want to write a short blurb about a drama, feel free to share in any of our weekly discussion threads instead. See our tips on how to write a helpful review.
Reviews are moderated according to our moderation guidelines for reviews for content. Other rules and policies, such as On-Air or review megathread rules, still apply. Notably, reviews are subject to moderation for frequency under our Rehashed Discussions rule.
Fanart And Memes
We have a Designated Day, currently every Tuesday from 00:00-23:59 KST (UTC +9), on which we allow our members to attempt to share one (1) self posts of either qualified Fanart or Memes on KDRAMA. Fanart and meme posts are not permitted outside of Designated Days. Please review our Designated Day rules fully before submission.
News
We are not a news oriented subreddit though they are permitted as posts with restrictions on type of and source of news. Please fully review our Rules and Polices on news items before submission. If you are seeking to be kept updated with any entertainment news other than official casting news, we strongly recommend you seek out other sources beyond our subreddit such as Soompi.
OST And Promotional Material
We only allow official OSTs and promotional material (previews, teasers, posters) in our subreddit with restrictions on frequency and airing status of dramas. Please fully review our Rules on OSTs and promotional material before submission. There are post title requirements, please follow them.

2024.05.17 03:13 jovialdeathtrap Renting Transportation

So my wedding is coming up in a little over a month and transportation is the last big piece of the puzzle that has eluded me. Everything else is booked and getting dialed in to the finest details, but every time I try to book transportation I just can't figure it out for a price that seems reasonable.
Ultimately we want to provide a direct form of transportation for the wedding party (ten people), preferrable in style with a limo, however budget is more important than style here. That's because the actual distance between the ceremony venue (which is also the hotel we're all blocked at) and reception venue is only ten minutes. I'm trying to get transpo booked for one ride there at the beginning of the reception, and one ride back at the end.
For all other guests we're planning on providing Lyft vouchers.
But trying to get a 10 passenger vehicle, limo or otherwise, for a total of 20 minutes of driving is mind-bogglingly difficult for a reasonable price. It seems like the cheapest option I can find is still around 600$, for two ten minute trips!
Any insight on better ways to book something like this? I gotta get it squared away soon and would prefer to keep it less than 500 if possible.

2024.05.17 03:03 Mother-Huckleberry99 Less Than 4 Months to Backyard Wedding

I’m new here, and I am having an early September wedding in my backyard (in MD) When we bought the house in Aug the grass looked nice and green but now it’s a disaster. I assume they painted it. I’ve had immense trouble obtaining reliable lawn care and I’m really at a loss.
Big issue is that I have very little grass and a lot of weeds apparently. I have quite a large lawn so it’s a lot for a first timer. Someone is allegedly coming tomorrow to mow and put down Scott’s weed and feed but he said it could take months for the grass to grow back. Should I be risking it? Again, I’m told I have like 75% weeds so idk what to do.
The plan is for the wedding and reception to be in the backyard. Guests will park in the front yard, including on the grass. Would you do anything differently knowing cars would be all over the grass in the front?
I was thinking worst case we could dye the grass but if it doesn’t grow back, aren’t I screwed? Please help. I have no lawn savvy people in my life and I’m the first person in my family to own a home. I just want it to look nice.

2024.05.17 02:57 thesadcoffeecup Reuse fabric in too small dress for new project?

Reuse fabric in too small dress for new project?
I bought this vintage dress as it's the exact same as my mother's wedding reception dress. In real life the silk is beautiful and slightly irridesant and I got this for about £20 which is quite good for 100% silk. I am graduating this autumn and wanted to wear something that is a nod to my mother, however her copy of the dress is a little too small and I don't want to risk destroying the seams. This dress is 2 sizes to small.
I know I will not be able to just let out the seams enough to compensate for this but was thinking of cannibalizing the fabric for a completely new dress? If I took quite a bit of the length of I would have more fabric to recut a bodice. Maybe something sleeveless? Short skirt just above the knee. Any advice or warnings would be appreciated as I've never tried to repurpose fabric like this, only large pieces like curtains or sheets.
Thank you!

2024.05.17 02:45 ThrowRA_Ok_Inflation BF (29M) said he doesn't think he can live life w/o slapping my (25F) butt. Any advice on how to deal with mismatched affection?

Context: My (25F) boyfriend (29M) and I are in a LDR, dating 10 months. Known each othewere friends for 5+ years before we started dating. We're quite serious, talking about kids, getting married, living together, etc.
Recently, my (25F) boyfriend (29M) and I were at a wedding and he slapped my butt during the reception (not lightly). I don't like when he does it because it spooks/startles the hell out of me and I don't like to be touched in that way. I've expressed this in the past, but never directly said "don't do this again." This time, I told him that I didn't like it and asked if he could please not do it again. He acted shocked by my request and that I didn't like it, asking me to explain and saying "really?? really??" Anyways, I explained again that it's just not something I like, it makes me uncomfortable, etc.
He then says in the most despondent way, "I don't know if I can live the rest of my life not being able to do that..." I immediately start to try and soften the blow of the boundary for him, saying that it could change! That I could get more comfortable with it over time! and apologizing. I know I shouldn't have done that, but I genuinely feel bad that I really don't like to do something that I know other people do with their partners to show affection. I've never had a boyfriend who would do this, so I'm also navigating this for the first time myself. He genuinely seemed very sad and unsure whether this was something he could accept in a relationship.
Any advice on how to deal with things like mismatched ways of showing affection? Or how to feel/know when your requests are reasonable? I'm pretty sure he's going to do it again, so what to do when your partner forgets (or disregards) the request and does it again?
For people who like to smack butts, could you be in a relationship where your partner didn't like it?
TLDR: My (25F) boyfriend (29M) slapped my butt at a wedding, which I dislike and have mentioned before. When I asked him not to do it again, he was shocked and said he wasn't sure he could live without doing it. I feel bad and unsure how to handle this mismatch in affection styles. 2024.05.17 02:11 Siouxsie_Sweet Autumn wedding. Just the evening reception.

Hi, I need help figuring what kind of outfit (dress or skirt) I should wear for an evening party. I don't know of a dress code but I know it's not super formal. I can't afford new clothes but I have loads already, I just don't know what kind of thing would be suitable.

2024.05.17 01:26 HannBi I don't feel appreciated

I have this childhood bestfriend who got married last January. I know their story. Like how it all started, as i was their bridge. I was their consultant. I was ok with all the dramas. Im close to her husband also so they keep me posted with their ups and downs. I just keep my lines open whenever they need me. So when they decided to get married Im THE MAID OF HONOR(literal na maid). Motif.,Dress code, Venue, Reception, Etc.Big and small details she would ask me.She would ask for help whenever she needs to and i find time to help even after work. During the event i was so busy helping her with her gown, helping bridesmaids gowns, grooms mens attires, and assisting guest. I didn't even find time to eat during the program coz i have to run here and their. Even i got headache because of exhaustion and lack of sleep and without food for the whole day I was their entertaining guest until they ended the celebration with thank you for relatives, coordinators guests and all. When i got home its 3am. Didn't had the chance to change cloths went to bed and passed out. The next day I was absent. Headache still their with bodypain. I had to sleep the whole day. Days pass nothing from her. From time to time she would send me a message asking for something beneficial to her. Like the weddings done, am im still your maid? Somehow i got tired of her. Until this sentiment i have has grown. Don't i deserve a simple thank you? I mean i did all those things bec. i want to help but at least say Thank you. I don't know if im being reasonable but I feel like I should've said no with all those request so I wouldn't expect even a simple thank you from her. Didn't she appreciates it? It hurts😅
