2024.05.20 02:07 Cyndilouwhovian42 Car accident no injuries

June 15, 2023 my car was involved in an accident. One car rear ended another and then hit mine-on a freeway here in Az. Immediately had issues getting information from insurance company. Body shop that had my car couldn’t get any info, my own insurance was having a difficult time. Finally got my car back after 8 weeks. During this time I had a rental car-the insurance of the at fault driver said just send in receipts and total out of pocket when it’s time to settle. I did. Was told that of the 6500 in out of pocket they would pay just over 2k. So after realizing I was an idiot for believing my expenses would be covered, having put all of the rentals on credit cards, paying interest, -all that-I sign and notarized the docs they required and emailed to them. They will not return my calls. They will not return emails. I have called any/every number I have found and cannot get anyone to call me back to let me know the status of the claim. I have 14 unanswered calls/emails to date in the past 4 weeks. Over heard nothing since March. What are my options? Granted I’m out only like 4400 out of pocket, but this is on high interest cards. My car insurance took their settlement amount which was a% based on minimum ins requirements here in Az. No injuries. Should I retain an attorney? How can I get someone to reply to me? Beyond frustrated and feel like I’m getting steamrolled here. Any help? Advise? Similar stories to help me understand? Thank you

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 2)

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $100,492,203. ($166.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $216,763,646.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.
  • Budget: $90,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $33,602,376. ($52.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $65,900,249.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $13,756,082. ($21.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $68,673,228.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,739,802. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $113,398,237.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $148,095,302. ($215.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $269,958,228.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,491,364. ($54.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $122,426,792.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $32,746,941. ($47 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $106,956,330.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.
  • Budget: $35,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,306,030. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $84,920,539.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.
  • Budget: $40,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $47,047,013. ($62.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $67,647,013.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory. It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Cooper, ultimately winning one for Best Sound Editing.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.
  • Budget: $59,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $350,159,020. ($463.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $547,659,020.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $125,070,033. ($163.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $243,870,033.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $36,276,286. ($45.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $57,176,286.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $103,804,407. ($129.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $174,804,407.

Richard Jewell (2019)

"The world will know his name and the truth."
His 38th film. The film stars Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde. The film depicts the July 27 Centennial Olympic Park bombing and its aftermath, as security guard Richard Jewell finds a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and alerts authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed the device himself.
The film received positive reviews, but several journalists criticized the critical portrayal of the reporter that first accused Jewell: Kathy Scruggs (specifically for trading sex for stories). The film marked another commercial failure for Eastwood.
  • Budget: $45,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $22,345,542. ($27.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $44,645,542.

Cry Macho (2021)

"A story of being lost and found."
His 39th film. Based on the novel by N. Richard Nash, it stars Eastwood and Dwight Yoakam. Set in 1979, it follows a former rodeo star hired to reunite a young boy in Mexico with his father in the United States.
Nash tried to get this film made all the way since 1970s, but no studio was willing to pick it up. He restructured his films as a novel, was successful and studios were now interested. There were a few candidates for the leading role; Robert Mitchum, Roy Scheider, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eastwood himself. Arnie was willing to star in the film back in 2003, but put it on hold when he was elected Governor. He was set to star after leaving office, but the project was scrapped after his affair scandal was made known. In 2020, Eastwood signed to return.
The film received mixed reviews, particularly for its writing and acting. It was also a huge flop at the box office, and marked Eastwood's least attended film as leading man. David Zaslav criticized the studio's decision to finance the film. Warner executives allegedly said that although they knew the film was unlikely to turn a profit, they felt indebted to Eastwood for his decades-long relationship with the studio and his consistent ability to deliver films under budget and on time.
  • Budget: $33,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,310,734. ($11.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,510,734.

The Future

He recently wrapped post-production on his 40th film, Juror No. 2. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina, J. K. Simmons and Kiefer Sutherland, and follows a juror serving on a murder trial who realizes he may be at fault for the victim's death.

The Verdict

Insanely profitable.
Even the bombs do not taint this kind of reputation. Eastwood has made all these films under budget and never past its deadline. That's something that has to be treasured for studios, no wonder he's been staying with Warner Bros. since 1976. His ability to get films ready in short notice is impressive; Richard Jewell started filming in June and it was on theaters in December. One of the most impressive actors who transitioned into directors. You can tell that Sergio Leone and Don Siegel taught him well.
Now of course, his method of directing can also have its setbacks: he's often known for not asking for multiple takes and he skips rehearsals. So that means the performances of his actors aren't always the best they could've done. Which is why, despite making some masterpieces or fantastic films, he's also made a few films with weak technical aspects: poor lighting (J. Edgar), questionable logic (Cry Macho), obvious props (the fake baby in American Sniper), and some bad acting (Gran Torino and The 15:17 to Paris). At the same time, it's clear he can also get extraordinary performances through these methods; Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman won Oscars for starring in his films.
He also proved old age doesn't prevent you from continuing to work. He's turning 94 in a few weeks, and he's still directing films. Manoel de Oliveira directed films until he was 104, so perhaps we still have a few more years with Eastwood behind the camera.
P.S. Ever since I started this series, there's been suggestions that I should do "Actors at the Box Office" multiple times. While the idea is intriguing, that doesn't seem feasible for me. I'd have to categorize whether the actor is leading, supporting, original IP, adaptation, remakes, etc. Besides, with the continuing decline of star power, it's tough to decide what actor is truly moving the needle at the box office. That's why I'm making solely "Directors at the Box Office", because the director is responsible for the production. If the film succeeds, the director will get credit. And if the film flops, the director will be blamed. So this is the closest you'll get to "Actors at the Box Office".
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.20 02:06 dax812 Can someone recommend me a Found Footage Film based on these super specific perimeters?

Hopefully this doesn't make me sound like a pretentious asshole, but I really love the Found Footage genre, but I feel like I've pretty much seen all the good ones. Every time someone recommends me another one it ends up not being interesting to me, it's possible that I've become a lot more picky after watching 50+ films of this genre.
So if possible, I'd love to get some recommendations for a FF that doesn't have any of these tropes that I hate haha
If possible, please recommend me a movie that:

2024.05.20 02:04 renganomics An argument for suicide

I cant feel pain if i dont exist. I would much rather have never been born but beggars cant be choosers so i might as well make do with the next best alternative. I have existed for 21 years, i have no prospects, no close confidants aside from the one person whose heart i broke and in turn broke mine, and no sense of direction or motivation. I made a choice i thought would protect her from pain and disappointment, and ended up causing so much pain and disappointment she could no longer bear the idea of being with me. She could no longer see a future for us. We had spent so long discussing possible futures, destinations, careers, even fucking pets, and in one moment i ruined that reality, or possibly rather revealed its unreality. If she couldnt accept me at my worst, most shameful state, did she deserve to see me at my most proud? If there is a God he, she, or whatever fucking pronouns they use are a cruel manipulator on a cosmic scale. 1.5 years may be a blip in the eyes of some master creator but im barely 2 decades old and this shit has been a massive fucking chunk of my life so far. I know theres other people, i know the key to happiness is working on myself, but why should i even fucking bother when all i want is to devote my life to her? Some find solace in religion, praising and worshipping whatever deity some guy thousands of years ago pulled out of their fucking ass and maybe that brings them peace. I wish it did for me. I wish i was able to keep believing that some guy in the sky created an entire race of sentient beings out of fucking dirt and then somehow had a son with one of these dirt gremlins for the sole purpose of this son dying ‘for the sake of our sins’. I wish so badly this made sense to me. Maybe then i could direct all my energy to that and find purpose in it. But i dont. And i cant. It just makes no sense to me. Id rather put my energy and soul into someone i can perceive, after all perception is the only confirmation of our reality. I cant see some sky daddy up in the clouds, but i can see her. I worshipped her, i praised her. If there was a God it took shape in her. They say he made us in his image but the only proof of that i can see is corrupt, selfish, and altogether destructive to itself and the world he supposedly created for it to foster. If we are the image of God then he is a vile, ugly, sadistic being. I remember learning in school about tragedies, and their main defining trait is that they revolve around the downfall of the protagonist due to a flaw of their own they were unable or unwilling to overcome. Humanity is a fucking tragedy. The only animal cursed with the knowledge that we are slowly decaying. What kind of existence is that? Im supposed to find purpose knowing im just a sack of atoms with an unknown expiry date? How do i live knowing everything and everyone around me will not only cease to exist at a certain point, but if our mess of a species manages to make it into any sort of distant future, most of us arent even likely to be remembered? I hate sentience, i hate existence, and i hate pain. I hate the way my heart aches when i see her. I cant seem to escape this prison of affection she has me in. i hate that i let myself be so vulnerable and then hurt her so badly she can no longer be vulnerable with me. I worked so fucking hard to earn her trust. It was a fucking grueling experience. And i would do it all again if given the chance. The looks of mistrust turning to a deep reliance, as i slowly peeled away the layers to her soul. She used to describe her trust as eggs she was putting in my basket, and the day she said i had all her eggs might have been the most loved i ever felt in my life. 2 weeks ago she told me i broke one of her eggs, and she had to take them back now to protect them. I dont think ive ever felt so much pain and remorse as i did in that moment. Not only for hurting the person i cared about most, but because i have to live with the fact that that unreality we had built together would stay that way, and it was all on me. I hurt her, and i hurt myself. I know theres probably someone out there with more shared interests, with more quippy one-liners, possibly someone im even more attracted to physically. But i just dont fucking care. What point is there in chasing that when it could all get fucked like this? I cant do this again. I wont do this again. Its too much. I think i might be done. One of these days i might finally get the fucking balls to do it. ive been so scared for so long. The afterlife, my family and friends, her. But fuck it. My parents see me as the problem child, and they wouldnt even be fucking wrong. My siblings barely know me and i barely know them. Visiting home is like a hotel where im constantly reminded of how much of a failure i am and all the ways everyone around me is better. And im genuinely not even jealous. I could care less about any of my cousin’s lifestyles, or my sisters much better academic performance and artistic skill, or my brother’s athletic prowess. I really am happy for them, they all deserve it and more given the work theyve put in. The only thing i give a shit about is the fact that i get treated less because of these things. I just want to be able to live my life without being put down for choices that im happy with. I just want genuine fucking support, and when i fail to not have it shoved in my fucking face as if i dont already feel like enough of a shit sack. I dont need a 6 figure salary i need a fucking support system. A small but significant part of me holds a deep resentment for my parents for actively choosing to bring me existence. When i get the fucking chance i might just have to take that existence into my own hands and strangle it away, but for now im too much of a fucking pussy to try. I dont even know how id do it. I want it short and painless, almost instant if possible. I dont want any chance of survival in the form of life support, so maybe looking into a dnr would be useful but i dont even know where to start with that. Ive heard of a trick with the car exhaust, but i dont own a car and i dont want anyone finding my dead body in their vehicle. I just want an easy death, life has been hard enough. I feel like im tipping over the edge

2024.05.20 02:00 indigmatic Trying to investigate disappeared author and publisher from 1910.

I work in the archives at my university and we just deacessioned this book that we decided was not technically rare that was taking up space in our collections. My boss said I could keep it after we processed it. The author is Constantine George Rickards and it's called The Ruins of Mexico. The publisher info for this particular copy is listed as follows on the title page:
London, W. / H. E. Shrimpton, / 105, Regent Street. / 1910.
I cannot find a single biography on this author anywhere. All I know is the info he gave in the book's introduction about how the plates are photos he took while traveling through Mexico in 1910. He signed it along with marking his location at the time of writing said intro:
Constantine George Rickards. / Oaxaca, / September, 1910.
All I could find through googling the address was that it's now part of a shopping district in London but couldn't find anything on the publisher's name or the author's name besides the fact that this was his only known publication, and he wanted to make a second volume according to a slip of paper inside the book, which gives two publishing houses where they would supposedly be able to be obtained from in 1911, including the above. As far as I've seen online, volume 2 was never made. It doesn't exist anywhere, just people's copies of v. 1 they're trying to sell online for however much money. I searched for Constantine on ancestry and couldn't find anything either, but I'm not sure if it's because I'm just somehow incompetent with tech despite growing up with it. The slip of paper says as follows:
"The Ruins of Mexico." VOLUME II. of this work, containing a similar number of plates as Vol. 1, will be published early in 1911, and can be obtained from-- PHILIP SANDOVAL, Apartado, 21, Oaxaca, Mexico, and H.E. SHRIMPTON, 105, Regent Street, London, W.
My next courses of action will likely be looking into the Oaxacan publisher and address listed, as well as doing an ancestry search for Shrimpton, but I don't have too much hope I'll turn up anything. If anyone knows a thing or two about this and would like to help, or even if you're just interested in helping track these figures down and find out what happened to them and more about their lives, especially that of the author, any help is greatly appreciated.

Cultivating a list of "must-know" things for a successful life before 18 is a noble pursuit, but there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Success can look different for each person depending on their values, goals, and circumstances. However, there are some key areas and skills that can build a strong foundation for navigating life after 18:
Personal skills:
  1. Self-awareness: Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and passions.
  2. Resilience: Developing coping mechanisms and bouncing back from challenges.
  3. Critical thinking: Analyzing information, forming independent opinions, and problem-solving effectively.
  4. Effective communication: Expressing yourself clearly, actively listening, and building positive relationships.
  5. Time management: Organizing tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines effectively.
  6. Financial literacy: Budgeting, saving, understanding debt, and responsible credit use.
  7. Healthy habits: Maintaining physical and mental well-being through exercise, good diet, and quality sleep.
  8. Emotional intelligence: Recognizing and managing emotions in yourself and others.
  9. Adaptability and flexibility: Embracing change and learning new things throughout your life.
  10. Empathy and compassion: Understanding and caring about the feelings and experiences of others.
Practical skills:
  1. Basic cooking and home maintenance: Learning to cook simple meals and take care of your living space.
  2. First aid and CPR: Knowing how to respond to emergencies.
  3. Technology skills: Utilizing technology effectively for communication, research, and learning.
  4. Driving, car care, and basic bike maintenance: Understanding traffic rules and safe driving practices.
  5. Basic sewing and DIY skills: Fixing clothes, mending furniture, and doing simple repairs.
  6. Research and information literacy: Evaluating sources and finding reliable information.
  7. Public speaking and presenting: Being comfortable speaking in front of others.
  8. Networking and interpersonal skills: Building and maintaining relationships with peers and mentors.
  9. Time management and organizational skills: Planning and prioritizing effectively.
  10. Learning a new language: Expanding your communication abilities and cultural understanding.
Career & Life Planning:
  1. Career exploration and goal setting: Understanding your interests and setting realistic career goals.
  2. Resume writing and interview skills: Presenting yourself effectively for job opportunities.
  3. Researching and applying for colleges or vocational programs: Making informed decisions about your education.
  4. Understanding basic legal contracts and documents: Knowing your rights and responsibilities.
  5. Civic engagement and voting rights: Participating in your community and understanding the democratic process.
  6. Environmental awareness and sustainability: Learning to live responsibly and protect the planet.
  7. Digital citizenship and cyber safety: Protecting your online identity and using technology responsibly.
  8. Understanding personal rights and responsibilities: Knowing your legal rights and how to advocate for yourself.
  9. Building a support network: Identifying and relying on trusted friends, family, and mentors.
  10. Volunteering and community service: Giving back to your community and making a difference.
Remember:
Ultimately, helping young people develop these skills and cultivate a sense of agency will empower them to build their own definitions of success and navigate life after 18 with confidence and resilience.

2024.05.20 01:56 IckyOpal Which debt should take priority?

Without going into too much detail, I have a mortgage with 7.5% interest rate. There is also a credit card with around 20k to off with interest rate at 20% I have been putting extra toward my principal on the mortgage every month. Im wondering if itd be a better option to be applying the extra to the credit card instead.
What im planning for is in 2 years my interest rate can change on my mortgage. It can go up 2% and in that case the track im on with extra payments will make my monthly payment be a little less than it is right now. However if im not paying extra and the monthly payment goes up the potential full 2% i will have a much harder time making those payments.
My brain is tired and im looking for a fresh perspective on this. I may be able to pay off this CC in those 2 years so overall there would be more money at my disposal to go toward the house payment going up?
Opinions welcome 💜

2024.05.20 01:56 jobe_br Next card? Traveling to Europe, planning for next opportunity

Just put ~600k points to a Europe trip (flights) for the family this fall. Next few months will have a good bit of travel prep expenses and booking hotels, trains, rental car (maybe). Looking to figure out what card(s) to get next. Points so far have been mostly on cards to my name, so my partner would be an option if we want to grab bonuses on cards I already have. They also have a business TIN, so that opens an option, no biz cards yet.
Trying to formulate a strategy to maximize points over the next 12-18 months. Ambitious goal is 1M points. With our expenses, $4k in a month is usually trivial. I’ve eyed some of the bonuses on biz cards that need $20k in 3 months … we can usually do that at the beginning of the year, because we burn $3-6k in medical expenses to hit our HDHP deductibles (one of the kids has a very expensive medication). Otherwise it’s hit or miss, depending on various factors.
Ok, enough context. Here’s what I have currently: Blue Cash Everyday AMEX 6yrs Plat AMEX 4yrs 10mos Gold AMEX 7mos
Chase Amazon Prime 8yrs Chase Sapphire Preferred 11mos Chase Aeroplan 4mos
Capital One Venture 2yrs 11mos
I also have a Fidelity card that falls into the 5/24 timeframe (1yr 2mos old). Total, as near I can tell, is that I’m at 4/24, based on what credit karma is showing on my report.
I’m good with canceling anything that makes sense, too. I’m especially not sure if it makes sense to keep the AMEX plat at this point, need to decide in the next month or so. Advice welcome.
Edit: score 800+

2024.05.20 01:55 SquareTill8527 How would you pay off/invest?

My wife and I have $100k in our savings and we would like to pay down some debt. How would you do it? Or would it be better to invest since our rates are pretty low?
What we have:
Mortgage $270k at 3.25%
Auto 1 $11k at 2.45%
Auto 2 $12k at 1.9%
We have no other loans. No credit card debt. We both have well funded retirement accounts.

2024.05.20 01:55 hakurariver 30[M4A]#San Antonio, Texas; Seeking emotional connection

Hi, I'm 30 years old and just moved out into my own apartment. Getting used to living alone again has been a bit of a struggle for me. I'm looking for connection whether it would be as friends or something more. I'm pansexual and consider myself non binary. I have Bipolar 1, and take medication for it. I'm also on disability for it currently. I'm also hearing impaired and in the future will need hearing aids. Still waiting to figure that one out. My mental health is something I have to put first as it can be dangerous for me if I slip in that area. I don't do drugs or drink, which can probably be offputting to some. I'm not religious, and am currently on a health journey to improve myself. Quitting smoking, exercising, diet. I'm 5'9 and about 190lbs. Hoping to lose 35lbs by the end of the year so I can continue improving my health. I have difficulties being around large groups of people, and prefer one on one settings. I just can't seem to understand group settings very well. :p Wow I really have a lot of issues. xD Seeing them all listed here makes me laugh. I'm very open about my mental illness and how it's affected me in my life. I would say my recovery from it is going well. It's a journey not a destination. :) I'm more than happy to provide face pictures once we get to know each other better. Well just putting myself out there hoping for something. I have always found an easier time expressing myself through words than through speech. Also if you have a cat I want to see pictures of them! haha I love kitty cats so much. I hope to get a cat again now that I've moved out. They help me so much with everything. :) Feel free to send a message if you are interested.

2024.05.20 01:53 amca_19 Diving a bit deeper into Signora reserection theory

U/Yass_0w0Had Made a list of possible ways/reason's that Signora would be reseructed.
Some examples Moth/Butterfly themes, affiliated with new life throu transformation/rebirth.
Her having given up her physical form already ...
But me being me I have taken up to my self to dive a bit into his concept's ( I'm not obsessed nor unhingedly interested into genshin/fictional characters I just enjoy to theories and take a look on them , I'm an artist/sketch artist ( or at least that's what I am called by my friends and family) and I wish to one day work on designing games and characters and there Stories as my profession/side husel)
Most credit is to u/Yass_0w0 check him out!!!
Signora/her moth interrupting the reserection of another character; She could interrupt the reserection of the old Pyro Archon, Take over there body/place/title and thereby claim ownership of the gnosis but the new archon won't let that be but till she(Signora) is beaten she will have given the gnosis over to dottore/capitano/Columbian and would be left to die, which makes her join us.
Dottore will reserect her, as part of an experiment or as part of a trap(dottore is unhinged and cares little for life) which wouldn't make it surprising if he reseructed her just so she could be the bait to be killed by the archon/tribes of natlan while he follows his own Agenda taking gnosis and burning irmensul as seen in that one scene and revealed by one of the Devs to happen in the future.
Capitano(if he is the blood stained knight) resurrecting her; His respect for her and his former master ( her lover) would make him feel it kind of as a duty to bring her back or at least try so, but he will fai or not even tryl to bring la signora back, instead he will reseruct Rosalyne the gentle version (with maybe memory holes).
She gave her body up, but was it destroyed? We know that she nearly killed herself while transforming into CWoF for the first time. Her giving up her body does not mean she destroyed it, it could be somewhere in natlan hidden/protected by a temple or in the liquid fire she drank(I remember reading that there was the sea of liquid fire) where she could have dived into and emerged as a bodyless version of her self that uses elemental energy to manifest a physical form. Or since we know that she was an akademiya student she could have preserved her body somewhere by artificial means.
Cracky theory I'm a giant fan of both la signora and Sandrone, seeing as we have gotten a puppet character in an hoyo game already (Herta HSR) I wouldn't be surprised getting one in genshin(yes balladeer is a puppet of raiden but technically missing the puppet aesthetic) and while Herta is pretty basic in her design she was probably used to test the waters on how to give a character such depth in its design as to produce clear and authentic puppet aesthetic(especially with the hints of us getting a 5 star version of Herta later in the game),comming to the theory What if she will be ,,reserected" into one of sandrones puppets maybe even one in image of a younger(former version)of Rosalyn like the one on arlechino story trailer with less detailed/accessories like her crown/eye patch thingy. A factor for making me think that is that sandrone who was supposedly meant to appear in fountain never did so so her having little bit of influence even if not by showing up in natlan at all would be pretty expectable not to mention hoyo wouldn't be stupid enough to neglect the customer's/players wishes especially seeing as Hsr has become the companies mayn trademark and genshin has not been doing so well since Hsr released(yes arlechino banner was very successful but you have to take into account that 3 new characters are appearing in the next patch, all of which are very popular and are expected to do very very well in getting players to pay for gems, battle pass..., as well as it being suspected that 2 other fan favourites will appear the version after that(2.4).
She won't be reseructed at all (in natlan)she is dead and won't make a return untill shneznaya where we will face her casket/coffin in the palace and then the tsaritsa will reseruct her(having the all gnosis) just to pay her back for her devotion and her having been let go/relieved of her duty will make her join us (since all Archons will be playable we will join with the tsaritsa) and so Signora would join us by default.
I was writing this while it's late and I should be asleep so it's Very cracky but alas I'm just a humble Enjoyer of the fictional worlds and there characters who wishes to share laughter, knowledge, Opinions and all of the other shareable things I'm not able to think of. And this helps me get tired for sleep 😴 Thanks For reading have a lovely day/morning/noon/afternoon/night and over all have a peaceful day...
Edit; I have failed to ask I/Yass_0w0 if I could name him and if I could use his ideas, and as a person who once got there art stolen I wish to apologise if it comes over to you as if I've turning his concept's into mine also my friend mentioned I should write here if you(Yass_0w0) read this thank you for your posts and I'm sorry that I didn't ask you before posting if you wish for me to delet the post/remove you're acount name from it please feel free to write it in the comments.

2024.05.20 01:49 ProfessorSquatch (Oregon) Traded a "friend" vehicles to get something with better fuel economy. They have my car and title, and I have their vehicle, but their title doesn't match. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Let me start by stating the fact that I know that I am an idiot for trusting this person. There's nothing you can say to beat me up worse than I am already beating up myself.
He told me everything I wanted to hear, and I completely trusted him. I thought I was trading my 2009 Nissan Murano for a freshly registered 2015 Chevy Cobalt. He stated that the Chevy was owned by a friend of his that wanted to trade it for a smaller SUV. After driving the Chevy around for a couple of hours I decided to take the deal. The Murano had some mechanical issues and he said that he was just looking out for me, trying to get me into something else before it broke down and that he wasn't making anything on the deal.
We met up at a restaurant. He said that his buddy who owned the Chevy wanted to see the title for the Murano to be sure everything was legitimate and that I could hold onto the Chevy title during the process. He hands me a stack of papers that included a vehicle title. He claimed he had a family emergency and took off before I could finish sifting through the papers. I figured he had my best interest at heart because we were friends.
Unfortunately, the title he gave me went to a Mercedes van and there was a bill of sale from what appears to be a car that he previously owned for which his wife signed.
Turns out, the Chevy was actually OLDER than the Murano and it hasn't been registered in years. So far, none of his claims are turning out to be true. Upon asking for my vehicle back he says that we had already made a deal and that the Murano is gone. He said if I call the police they won't do anything because it's a civil matter.
Now, I am stuck with a car that I can't put into my name or register because I have no idea who owns it. I have a title that
goes to some random vehicle, both of which could very well be stolen. I do have comprehensive insurance on the Murano, but just started a new policy right before this situation occurred. So, I'm not sure that if that's even a route I could potentially take. Honestly, at this point, I just want my car back or at least a bill of sale for the Chevy.
Actually, now that I've typed all of this out I can see just how insane it all sounds. I should probably just file a police report. This guy completely to advantage of me. This will be the first and last time something like this happens to me!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.20 01:48 hakurariver 30 [M4R] San Antonio, Texas Looking for emotional connection.

2024.05.20 01:40 hilightnotes Some highly critical first impressions of Legendary Tales

This post is very long. This first section, before the first triple-line-break, is the summary. Details follow that.
__________________________________________
SUMMARY
__________________________________________
So, I was very much looking forward to Legendary Tales for a while now after hearing so many great things.
I bought it on sale a couple days ago and played the first hour or so, completing the tutorial and entering the main hub. Then I uninstalled and refunded it.
This is not a 'hate post' and I hope that this post will not only help people understand some of the issues of this game, and what this game is NOT, but also help people understand what this game is and why you might love it. I talked about my criticisms with others who love the game to help me approach this and hopefully deliver some useful thoughts. It's worth noting that I got lots of agreement about my criticisms from the people I talked to - who still love the game.
In short,
People love this game for the combat development in the context of a 40+ hour adventure. All the depth to the skill trees, which of course in my hour I didn't touch. The creativity of building the mechanics of a character RPG style - except you get to physically battle in VR. The reward of unlocking that cool skill you've been excited to try out, or finding a legendary that's a blast to use. Even in my short time with the game I could feel the beginnings of this with the parry system. I did have fun fighting skeletons with a simple sword and no skills, and felt the challenge as I had to aim my sword deflections well and time my counterstrikes. There is an effective mechanic preventing waggle-fest and I can begin to imagine all the room to develop your combat mechanics in a way that is, fun and rewarding, and uniquely VR.
Sounds great right? To some it truly is.
But to me, not so much. Why? Because everything else is lacking to a degree I did not expect.
I've been playing a lot of The Light Brigade lately. And although these two games are totally different, it's a useful game to bring up because The Light Brigade excels in all the ways that Legendary Tales significantly falls short.
Atmosphere - music and sound, lighting and colours, art design, character and enemy models
Interfacing - Onboarding and intuitive learning, UI design and fluidity, control mapping, options, grabbing/interacting with objects, general polish
Storytelling - Plot, lore, world building, characters, character and enemy expressiveness, writing
For many people who play games, combat is at the forefront of their interests. For me, it always takes a backseat priority - if its present at all - to the above three aspects. The combat in Bloodborne is great, but it is because it excels in those 3 aspects that it's one of my favourite games. I also love lengthy games like Pentiment, Disco Elysium, Planescape Torment, and Pathologic 2, which have minimal or no combat and lots of reading!
Legendary Tales is simply mediocre in those three bolded aspects and for me that's a hard pass. If these aspects were serviceable to me - done well enough to facilitate the combat - I might have kept going. But I don't use the world 'mediocre' lightly. This is the appropriate word to me, and because of that, I did not want to spend 40+ hours in this world.

DETAILS
__________________________________________
For those interested, or for the developers, I will continue with a breakdown of these aspects I am criticizing, trying to go through everything I felt about them in the first hour or so of playing.
Main menu was my favourite part. I liked the scene + music together. Nice. I was looking forward to playing and this had me feeling fuzzy and ready to enjoy the game. Unfortunately, it was not to be.
The very first issue I noticed was that the game felt washed out. Even in that main menu I liked, I was feeling like it was a bit washed out. So I tried adjusting brightness down... then the darker areas felt better, but the light areas felt off. The more I played and tried to adjust to find the right equilibrium, the more I realized the lighting and contrast is just not good and adjusting brightness can't save that.
The second issue I noticed was the menu cursor to select things. It felt like an early VR game that hadn't quite figured out VR menus yet. It's useable but not fluid and pleasing.
The third issue I noticed was the unintuitive controls. I thought that this was the kind of game, kind of like a Souls game, where you aren't taught everything but learn things as you go in an organic manner. Maybe some of that exists in this game, but mostly it's simply bad control design and a bad tutorial. It's the difference between having barriers that have purpose, purposeful friction, and feel good when discovered vs barriers that feel pointless and just build frustration without purpose. The controls feel like a mess and while it's apparent that people can get used to them as they play more, it's not in a justified sense.
Along with this are interfacing issues. For example, grabbing items feels very awkward. The motions are clunky, for example the way a weapon will slowly glide into place in your hands. There's so many interfacing issues. The interface to see weapon/item stats on weapons that are laying about is clunky, the interface to switch weapons is clunky, the magic interface is clunky, dialogue boxes feel clunky,... all of these things feel clunky both in terms of feel and also aesthetic.
A very straightforward and obvious example is dialogue. Character dialogue is presented in a large bland text on a page. To progress through the dialogue, there's no obvious place to click or button to push. In fact, you have to click a particular area of the page, which feels totally arbitrary and unintuitive. Sure, once you learn, you can do it fine, but it's just bad interface design.
To go back to The Light Brigade, think about the difference in both feel and aesthetic to opening a chest or breaking a pot. Grabbing a gun and how it arrives to your hand. The attractive dialogue boxes. Watching a reward pop out of a chest, picking a tarot card. Putting objects into your waist pouch or taking them out. These interactions are all comfortable, beautiful, fluid, and intuitive.
The next thing on my mind was sound.
As I played the tutorial, the soundscape was barren. There was a wind loop, which didn't loop correctly leaving a solid second of space between the end and beginning. Sounds didn't feel like they were placed quite right in 3D space. Point-based sounds (like the crackling of a campfire, that comes from a specific point in space) had too small of a zone (the sound should be heard from further away). In general the soundscape was very barebones. And when I encountered the first character, not only did the character look totally goofy and out of place, but they made no sounds when 'speaking', not even grunts or gibberish sound.
To skip ahead for a moment, I also felt the music did not match the environments enough. The music was quite pretty - that's not the problem. It just didn't feel like the environments were quite synergized with the music.
Again for both music and sound, think of the gun sounds, the ability sounds, the sound of the enemies as they spot you, the sound of the environment, the footsteps and dash, the grunts of characters when the speak, the music... not only does it all sound great, but it all feels like expressions of the unique world of The Light Brigade. This is excellent sound and music design, that truly bring the world to life.
Although a minor complaint, I also noticed lots of grammar and spelling errors. Although I understand the team is in South Korea, and I appreciate the challenges of translation, just like with everything else I was just expecting... more polish. I thought it would feel like a full package, at indie scale. But it feels very much like a partial package.
And that segues into the writing...
There are games with simple and/or unmemorable story, where the story is still servicing and facilitating the gameplay.
And then there is just plain bad writing.
This is very much the latter.
Maybe a bit of this goes back to translation but I am doubtful that it fares much better in original Korean in essence.
The writing is goofy, juvenile, poorly structured, and generic.
I was also seriously turned off by a couple lines in particular, that I'm sure affect me more than most but I will mention anyways. One was something like "valuable gem missing. And a hot girl". Like... There's nothing inherent about calling a woman (or a man) hot that I don't like. Yes gamers, you are allowed to find women attractive, relax. But it's the way its written,... I'm not going to turn this into an essay about male gaze but the way its written simply services a particular male audience that casually objectifies women.
Even worse was the final line I read, a quest line. Paraphrasing, but the primary descriptive words are all exact: "Go kill 10 kill peasants in a refugee camp". I don't think I need to elaborate, people who are on a similar page to me will understand why this was just an incredibly gross line.
I know the above two dialogue criticisms will not be shared by everyone and not affect everyone the same way. I am expressing them as part of what I felt, my personal criticisms and experience, just like the rest of what I'm sharing.
Again to compare to The Light Brigade... every line feels thoughtful and builds character and develops the lore. Whether its the forlorn lines of NPC members of The Light Brigade, or the scenes that appear between runs, and other bits and pieces you get. The Light Brigade develops so much world with few words, it's quite impressive and again a beacon that Urban Wolf Games can learn from.
The final issue I'll discuss was something that struck me earlier on. That is, player character model and lack of customization.
First of all - again an issue that the majority here probably won't be affected by - I could not pick my character model until after completing the tutorial. Specifically, I was forced to do calibration as a male character model, and then had to play the tutorial as this character. Minor complaint but again just another polish issue.
Both male and female models are just... boring designs, and the female model is again very juvenile, obviously serving a primarily male audience, whether intentionally or not.
But more importantly, there's no character customization. Not even the tiniest bit. Even the ability to change just skin colour and hair only would go a long way. Especially in a lengthy adventure like this, I need to be able to identify with my character. Especially with multiplayer it seems essential to me, but even if it were single player, and as someone who plays primarily in single player, character customization is hugely impactful to me.
This does not really have a contrast in The Light Brigade - there's no character customization in The Light Brigade either, although the kind of game it is, it's not as relevant. That said, I do think it would be a nice touch if there WAS some minor character customization in The Light Brigade, and especially if you could play as a woman instead of man if you so choose. Although maybe lore-wise it is intended that all members are male except for 'Mother'. This hasn't been established with any good reason though. So on this point I would lightly criticize The Light Brigade as well.

ENDING THOUGHTS
__________________________________________
Ultimately, Legendary Tales is quite simply a very indie game that probably had a very small team and limited funds. I don't know for sure, but probably there *wasn't* a dedicated writer, a dedicated UI and interface designer, etc.
However, these things are still failings of the game and its design. The greatest indie games to me are ones that successfully recognize their scope limitations and develop something complete within that scope. Whether it's the roguelike world of The Light Brigade, or the very short and stylish Tiger Blade, or Jeff Minter's trippy games like Akka Arrh and Polybius, or the retro Silent Hill aesthetic of Organ Quarter, or the suspenseful hotel of Propagation Paradise Hotel... all these games are made by small teams but successfully navigate their limited funds to deliver a full package within an appropriately limited scope.
On the one hand, I really value and support BJ's push for indie games to be respected and for that respect to reflect in the price consumers are prepared to pay. But after being totally on board with the price of Legendary Tales based on what I read from BJ and reviewers and many regular players too, I have to disagree with this game's pricing. This game is not polished enough, and is not a full package. That the game sucked out so much funds is an error of scope.
Maybe I will be in the minority, and Legendary Tales has been a success so it seems that I am, and so good on them for knowing the value of their game to the demographic they targeted I guess. And regardless, even if the pricing and attempted scope of the game are an error on the dev's part, I'm glad for the dev to earn back as much as they can, or even turn a profit hopefully.
But to me, reflecting back to the question the devs put forward: "Do you want to see deep combat development like this in VR for a 40+ hour adventure from indie devs?" The answer is no, I don't. I do consider the scope of this game an error on the part of the developers. It sounds like they did not even turn a profit enough to allow them to expand their team (but maybe I'm misunderstanding). I hope that they do continue with VR development, but instead focus on a much smaller scope game. Deliver a polished, complete package within a smaller scope, implementing a much tighter budget that will allow for potential turning of profit with an appropriately lighter sale price (maybe targeting a $30 game?).
If that is successful, do it again, and again, until they can expand and eventually work toward their dream adventure RPG, hiring actual writers and UI designers and sound designers etc. For me personally, this is simply not the kind of game you can half-bake. It should be attempted again when, and only when, they feel they have budget to do this in a truly full and polished manner.
I had the pleasure of meeting BJ briefly at PAX East. He struck me as friendly, kind, totally genuine, and incredibly passionate as a game developer and a VR game developer in particular.
I do wish this team good luck and despite my own harsh criticism I am glad so many ARE enjoying this game, and also feel the price point is justified. I want devs to earn money, including Urban Wolf Games. And I hope that they will continue to develop and bring more VR to the world.
I hope that my criticism is constructive and useful toward these same goals.

Career Help!
I’m currently seeking help trying to figure out what direction to go with my career path. I am the first person and now the only person in my family to graduate college. I have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and minor in forensic science. After college I did get a job working at a federal halfway house, but the director was not easy to work with at all (I absolutely love that job). I then worked at Comcast in the retention department, but moved back home to get help with my twins. I became ill when I moved back and I was unable to work for 3 years, but I was able to obtain my MBA(no internship required)during that time. My fiancé ended up going into kidney failure and I had to take on the load of the bills because he wasn’t able to work. I interviewed for a company several times and was later asked if I would be willing to work for them through a temp agency I needed a job so I agreed to do accounts payable and receivable. The position ended and I wasn’t hired. I was also making more as a temp than the people that had been with the company for years and the temps that I worked alongside so it was cheaper for the company to let me go. I later got a job at my local unemployment, I worked there for five years as an investigator in the benefits department, but due to budget cuts during the pandemic I was let go. I took 6 months off to relax. I went to a job fair at my local post office and was hired pretty fast! (Red flag ‼️)Keep in mind this was the first and only job I applied for. I was asked if I would be interested in training in management as a 204b basically a supervisor for in training. My training sessions were very inconsistent and I’ve been lied to on several occasions as to why there hasn’t been any time for training. When put on the schedule for higher level training I’m doing everything but that! Organizing, the post masters office, filing papers and decorating bulletin boards. I work in a predominantly white office where there is no one of color or female in any type of management sadly ,so of course I was excited for the opportunity. I come into work one morning and I see a guy being trained when I was told there was no time for training slap in the face. I no longer have interest in management or the job as a whole. I have a constant battle with myself about how I didn’t go to school all of those years to drive a mail truck! I am very dependable and I never call into work! If taught right I learn quickly. Sadly I have no clue as to what direction to go in when it comes to using my degrees. I’m tired of taking just a job. I want a job that actually makes me happy. Anyone have any advice?

2024.05.20 01:37 Hanco90 Devils Game, Part 1

Humans were always interested in evil, hell, devil, everything that's backwards from good, by the time of history of humanity people have adapted into their religions, and they believe how many miscellaneous religions exist, however in reality, there's just 2, first one is a belief in god or good and the second one is belief in devil or evil.
By those 2 beliefs, it's extremely easy not just to manipulate with singular person, but also with whole world. It's something like a domino effect, you begin with one, and then there shall be a chain reaction that will also cause influence to others. That is something that is strongest in us humans, but that is something that is incomprehensible for us.
I was always interested in that, why do lot's of people want to form contact with devil. Why does that attract, intrigue and interest them, why are there many cults and groups that are desperately in all possible ways attempting to form a contact with an evil side, the king of most evil, the devil.
That is where my story begins, it begun from my curiosity on why do people want to form a contact with devil so much. I was a student, moreso the best one in my entire class, others considered me to be a very smart person, a person with an intelligence that is above average, but I've possessed my bad sides as well, no one is perfect. My adventure begins with my one friend that trustfully informed me how he knows someone who is a participant in a local cult or sect, curious me was slyly and carefully asking about that person and cult and successfully I've received those informations, I contacted that person and told him how I would also like to become a participant in his cult. The first thing that was told to me obviously was how becoming something like that isn't such an easy and straightforward thing, because they solely pick those who are tremendously competent to be an adequate fit for their cult, I was determined to become part of it so I accepted.
It was 13th November a hour before midnight, when I've received a message to arrive on one place in which there was nothing, I knew that road that I was traveling with in my car at that night, around me were only fields and trees. I was told that after 3 turns I should turn left and go for another about 100 meters, and then next to the biggest tree I must park and get out, and after that I must make exactly 66 steps from the left of that tree, on that place I shall receive my first test. And that is what I've done, I got out of my car and observed around but there was nothing, just a sound of a basic night, when I made 66 steps, I stumbled upon one old book that was simply just laying on the ground, the grass on that place was obviously cut just so that book was noticeable. On the peace of paper that was glued on it said how should I go back to my apartment and read the entire book exactly 3 times and how I should do everything that says in it. The name of the book was "The Devils Bible" It appeared very archaic with its thick covers and yellowish heavily congregated pages, it looked like a real replica of a 500 year old bible but with all kinds of satanic symbols drawn on its covers.
I arrived at my apartment and read the book exactly 3 times, for such thing I required 3 days, but my determination was still strong, all kinds of stuff were written on it, about the creation of devil and the techniques he uses to spew evilness on this world, how to truly summon the devil, how to truly submit a victim to evil, how to sell soul, and many other miscellaneous infos about such diabolical stuff. I've remembered almost every word and read every page. However I was very skeptical about this book because the historical misinformations were ubiquitous in this book but, what I wanted I received it.
After exactly 6 days I received another textual message with an address, the address led me to an abandoned factory that was located in the edge of the city. 10 years ago that factory burned down and no one goes there anymore, apparently it's haunted and many suicides occurred there, that is why it carries a frightening history and goes by the name "Factory of Death". When I arrived in front of the factory I saw that light in one part is on, I came into a conclusion that someone was genuinely in there, before I went into it, the doors opened, and one man came out. To my surprise, that man had a very nice and elegant suit, he asked for a card that I had on the center of my book that I received, I gave it to him, and then he told me to follow him, and then I came into that room. The thing I saw there seriously left me frightened, about 20 people with black robes and hoods that covered their heads sat in a circle that on the center had a big bowl with fire, and on top was a giant cross that was turned backwards, on the walls a lot of satanic symbols were drawn.

2024.05.20 01:37 Old-Distribution3942 Klipper config

I want to put klipper on my ender 5 pro, I want to use a orange pi 5 because that is what I have. I haven't done anything yet because I don't want to make my e5pro a paper weight. I can do all the stuff for klipper but the config file. I found one for the stock e5pro but I have a cr touch that I would like to use. I don't know ow how to edit the config file so if someone could do it for me or walk me through it that would be good. I have a 4.2.2 board but I don't know the processor. This config file is known to work so if it works than configuring it would be good, right? Also i am trying to do endoephin, thats why i want to use klipper, I have to edit the config file any way and I figure now is the time to do klipper. Both of the config files are from this reddit post
How to set up Klipper on stock Ender 5 with 32-bit (4.2.2) board, maybe others.
Here is the config I want to edit.
# This file contains pin mappings for the Creality "v4.2.2" board on Ender 5 Pro. To # use this config, during "make menuconfig" select the STM32F103 with # a "28KiB bootloader" and serial (on USART1 PA10/PA9) communication. # If you prefer a direct serial connection, in "make menuconfig" # select "Enable extra low-level configuration options" and select # serial (on USART3 PB11/PB10), which is broken out on the 10 pin IDC # cable used for the LCD module as follows: # 3: Tx, 4: Rx, 9: GND, 10: VCC # Flash this firmware by copying "out/klipper.bin" to a SD card and # turning on the printer with the card inserted. The firmware # filename must end in ".bin" and must not match the last filename # that was flashed. # See docs/Config_Reference.md for a description of parameters. # YOU MAY NEED TO EXCLUDE OR EDIT THE MCU SECTION DIRECTLY BELOW, # DEPENDING ON YOUR BOARD. 2024.05.20 01:33 silkysmooth112 I hate that we have to be the good guys

I love the honor respect and toughness that this team plays with. We are very humble and never play dirty. But boy if I was out on that floor I would’ve let the pacers feel our presence. I wish we played with a little more of that 90s energy and handed out a few hard fouls to make hali and tj think twice about driving down low. When we beat the 76ers we act as if we have been here before. We give them credit for fighting hard and move on. Now we have to sit here and get trolled by a team that let’s face it got a lucky draw of the cards in their matchups. Regardless I have to give credit to the pacers for the game 7 performance and enough can’t be said about how proud I am of our team. It was a great run.
In my eyes making the ECF was just a dream at the beginning of the season. After the OG trade it became expectation. And the fact that we were 1 game from it with half our roster injured is actually insane and shows what this team is made of can’t wait for next season!

2024.05.20 01:32 UnlikelyUkulele Mystagogus Interpretations

Hi folks,
Wondering if any generous souls might be willing to give me their two cents on two layouts I did this morning. The relevant background here (confirmed with another reading) is that I'm currently part of a destruction dynamic going on with my current employer (whom I'm trying to leave asap) and I believe that business is going under. Approx. six months ago, I did some readings which seemingly indicated a destruction dynamic and I asked for clarification here. Some kind people interpreted the spreads as saying to lay low for a while, which I've been doing until very recently when I've felt called to do some divination.
For what its worth, based on the water of life card appearing frequently, it seems I'm on my correct path and healing, if that helps as additional context.
In a yes/no reading from the Tarot Skills for the 21st century:
"Is there an available curriculum of magical learning which would provide more net benefit to my life than Quareia?" (what I was trying to get at was whether, overall, there was a program that might be a better fit - I haven't come across it and remain very interest in Quareia and generally a big fan of JMC).
Answer:
  1. What the question is about: Magical Death
  2. The relevant past: Underworld
  3. Difficulties to be overcome: Dreams
  4. Help you are given: Partnership
  5. The future outcome/what the answer will lead to: Hidden Knowledge
  6. The answer: Ghost
I had and have no idea how to read the Ghost here as an answer. I believe from other divination that the destructive dynamic going on at work (of which I'm seemingly a necessary part) is underworld related (which may be a duh for some folks, apologies, but I know nothing).
So because I found this really confusing, I did a clarifying reading with the tree of life layout used in the same book, and asked: "Is the Ghost card in the prior reading telling me there is a spirit of a dead person around me or the situation?"
  1. What the story is about: Stargazers
  2. Positive or giving aspect forming the story: Fate Weavers
  3. What is hidden or past that has bearing on the story: Leadership
  4. What is necessary for the story to develop: Unraveller
  5. What is withheld from the story or being taken away: East Gate
  6. The pivotal aspect of the story: Inner Desert
  7. What needs discipline or limiting for success: True Justice
  8. What needs relaxing to flow: Service
  9. The reason or dynamic behind the answer: Separation
  10. The answer: Voice of untruth
I read the answer here via the voice of untruth as being "No, not the spirit of a dead person." I assume the separation dynamics have to do with separating from my employment, and that perhaps service is being used as a substitute for "work" meaning relax about work or don't do as much, but no idea. Leadership, I assume refers to my past actions. But this left me with no sense of the answer to my original question.
I've found the whole thing really confusing. If you've made it this far with me, I really appreciate you. To help figure out what these other readings mean, I did the Mystagogus layout, which read as follows. I don't ask that anyone try to interpret this for me, but merely provide it for context on the other readings.
1. Progenitor: what the story is about
a. Water Of Life: soul nourishment, sacred healing, physical healing, divine love, regeneration, working with water energy
2. Endurance: what must be overcome for success/growth
a. Sacred Place: holy place, sacred space, place of divine presence, clean, balanced, safe place, special person, nature power spot
3. Unraveling: what must be let go of or loosened up, or what is falling away
a. South Gate: south, future, fire, creative fire, volatile energy, yes, positive
4. Partnership: what you are closely interacting with or what is having a direct influence
a. Destruction: loss, destruction, dangerous imbalance, destructive behavior, make a major change, painful rebalancing, catastrophe, natural disaster, get out of the way.
5. Hearth: home, family, tribe
a. Silence: be silent, do not act, you do not need to know, do not ask, think before speaking, secrets and keeping secrets
6. West Gate: what is now fading into the past but can return
a. Load sharer: sharing a burden, upholding others, caretaking, holding a magical working, protecting someone, helping, hard work, enabling someone
7. North Gate: what is now long past and will not return, but has relevance
a. Harvester: death, change, liberation, closing, limited time, letting go, end of a fate cycle, loss of control that destroys.
8. Fate weavers: the current individual’s fate pattern that is active
a. West Gate: leaving, coming to an end, very recent past, slowing down, aging, direction of west, probably not, no longer viable
9. The Path: what is moving forward, active and positive
a. Companions: working creature companion, tend to creatures, augury, an important animal or bird, an animal is the key
10. The Binder: what is withheld, is not active, nor should be
a. Creating: creating, painting, writing, sacred art, consecrated art, sacred words, creative service, music, drama, the creative act
11. The gift: help that comes to the situation
a. Hidden Knowledge: unseen, secret, hidden, beyond understanding, hidden potential, unknown, depths, unseen water, incubation of great learning, despair before emerging, dark night of the soul
12. Underworld: The adversary of the situation
a. The Path: important fate path, trust, yes, correct, way ahead, action, move forward
13. Dreams: what is happening in sleep and dreams, can also be a position of visionary work
a. Progenitor: Idea forming, divine presence, preconception, before dawn
14. Inner Worlds: What is flowing to the situation from the innespirit worlds
a. Unraveller: falling apart, falling away, loosening, breaking up slowly, crumbling, unwinding.
15. Daimon: advice offered on what actions are needed for success
a. Perception: pay attention, a sign, warning, exposing hidden information, precognition, prophecy, awareness, truth, understanding the truth, seeing what others do not see, seeing what is veiled.
16. Danger: what is dangerous and can inhibit or stop progress
a. Purification: ritual cleansing, purify, consecreate, bathe, tidy up, clean space, make sacred
17. East Gate: Short term future, the path ahead
a. Splendor: yes, success, achievement, joy, beauty, respect, harmony
18. South Gate: What will come to be in the longer term future as a result of the current situation
a. Secret Commonwealth: land being, faery, nature spirit, unpredictable person or situation, make no promises, strangeness, a need for integrity in the face of unfairness
I took a lot of comfort in this reading because it seems like I'm at least on a positive path even in the midst of a destructive tide or dynamic with my company. I read some of this as "stay muddy to be camouflaged, don't cleanse yourself or your home overmuch."
Would really appreciate any thoughts or insight of parts or the whole of this.
Thanks all, and hope everyone is safe and healthy.
