2024.05.18 15:18 mentalginger Uk electrician trying to understand the process of moving abroad

Hey all, I'm a uk electrician who is looking to potentially work in different countries and would appreciate some knowledge on the process of facilitating this change. I'm 26 and have 9 years experience mainly in industrial and control systems working in factory's, mines quarries and testing facilities. I understand that obtaining the correct paperwork and qualifications for other counties can be complicated and its not always as simple as showing your qualifications from your own country isn't always the answer. From the uk my options I understand are limited and I'm mainly looking at canada, Australia and New Zealand. I would appreciate anyone's past experience or people they have known who have gone through the process.
I would also like to know about the working holiday visas for under 30s and how this may correlate interms of electrical work.
Thanks in advance

I'm only 27 years old. This year I finally got admitted abroad into an European medschool after a difficult and competitive medschool entrance test. I was beginning to realise my dream. Now, I'm worried about the future.

2024.05.18 12:42 joshra7 ELI5 - How do software developers test and quality control on Electric Vehicles?

Something I keep thinking about, how to do they testing on them? Developers write the code, deploy it onto the system and then how do they properly test? I understand basic things like the in car infotainment system, but more complex things like performance and the various sensors.

2024.05.18 12:01 greatscotty1234 Why the TATA hate? Should I reconsider? Am I missing something?

Backstory : So, I am set to buy a new car. The first I'll ever buy. My dad owned an Indica diesel for a couple of years. I did quite a bit of research about Petrol, Diesel, Cng, Hybrids and Electrics. I wanted and Automatic for anyone in my family to drive. So CNG was out. My primary driving will be touring out for 500-800 Kms at a time. And yes, I will be doing some city driving as well but not too much.
Choice of Fuel and Vehicles : So, since I wanted to get an automatic, My choice of fuel was down to Petrol, Hybrid, Diesel and Electric. I also checked out the new Tiago and Tigor with Cng AMT but dad didn't like it. Also CNG was out because, though it is a cheap fuel, I found the whole idea of waiting lines and around 200-250 km range to be quite a hassle. Electric was out because of the range issue and charging hassle as well. One more priority was the build quality and adequate power with that. With all these things in mind we shortlisted 2 cars. The Grand Vitara Hybrid and the Nexon Diesel AMT. My dad simply don't trust Kia, Hyundai.
Test Drive : I drove both although the guy at Suzuki was a bit reserved when it came to the drive and I couldn't properly get to test all the parameters. I saw in the tpms that one tyre was really low on pressure. The Aircon felt a bit weak. I liked the built quality but I didn't feel the drive. Probably because the drive was really short. To my surprise I could make out that there is some engine noise coming in especially because the engine starts and stops at regular interval to charge the battery. The quality of the cameras were really not that good either. It felt like those cctv camera in the shops. The boot space was compromised because of the battery. In the whole drive, I was barely doing speeds more than 30-35 kmph.
Meanwhile at Tata, things were quite different. The guy simply said "Aap chalao bindaas. Thok di gaadi toh bhi chalega, mai dekhlunga." And while it was quite a bold statement, it did made me confident to test the car the way I wanted. That man was insane. He was actively pointing out potholes to me so I could check out the feedback on bumps. The handling of this car was another level. It didn't feel like I was in a diesel car at idle. The engine is noisy when you get the hood up but it doesn't come inside the cabin. Yes, it goes crazy noisy when I pushed it. But honestly it wasn't a deal breaker as I am not gonna push it more often. I got to know that people mean when they say the AMT lags. again not a deal breaker as I wont push the car that much. I personally would buy the manual anytime. The power in the Nexon felt good. The overall ambience and comfort felt better than Vitara. I didn't find any quality issues either. This was an overall amazing experience from the dealer, the car and the drive. The price difference between both the cars were about 6 lakhs and yet the Nexon felt like the more expensive option. Even when I consider the CNG GV, the car cost 17 Lakhs OR for mid variant which is only cheaper by about one Lakh than the Nexon Diesel AMT Top variant. Which also happens to be a manual. This made my choice quite obvious.
Now comes my question. Why a lot of reviewers hate this car and brand? I have seen people really bash the car for its refinements and QC and dealerships and the service ( which I have to yet experience ). Am I missing something? Please help. I am also open for my options. Kinda also considering the Mahindra 3xO but again, dad fell in love with the Nexon and won't go anywhere else.

2024.05.18 10:12 Competitive_Oil9453 I2c LCD stops following code and code doesn't react on button press and hold (Need help)

Hello, I need some help with my project. The LCD isn't updating, and the project doesn't react to button presses. Here's what I've done so far:
  1. Tested all components with a small isolated code project (but electrically connected).
  2. The LCD functions normally.
  3. Buttons have no bounce.
  4. Servo sweeps.
  5. Load cell calibrated and gives values.
Despite these tests, I'm clueless as to what might be causing the issue in my code. I've left some notes indicating where the code ends.

Hello everyone! I am graduating soon-ish, which means I am working on applying for full-time positions. I've had some difficulty with getting interviews with my previous one, so I redid my resume based on advice from the wiki and other posts. Most of my experience is pretty varied between software and hardware, and I am having difficulty conveying that I am comfortable with either.
The positions I am looking at are Robotics related- preferably Robotics Design or something in Software/Hardware integration. In addition, I am extremely interested in relocating.
Any and all help is appreciated!

This interaction includes efficiently deactivating electrical ability to perform important support, redesigns, assessments, or crisis fixes. Appropriately made due, electrical shutdowns improve the security of an office as well as guarantee the life span and unwavering quality of its electrical foundation.
Electrical shutdown servicing

The Meaning of Electrical Shutdown Servicing
Electrical frameworks are the foundation of current offices, fueling everything from basic apparatus and PC organizations to lighting and central air frameworks. Standard upkeep of these frameworks is fundamental to forestall glitches, lessen the gamble of electrical fires, and guarantee energy productivity. Electrical shutdown servicing gives a controlled climate to complete these fundamental errands without the risks related with live electrical work.

Key Stages in Electrical Shutdown Servicing
Extensive Preparation: Fruitful electrical shutdowns start with nitty gritty preparation. This incorporates choosing the ideal time for the shutdown to limit functional disturbance, normally during non-top hours or planned personal time. The arranging stage likewise includes organizing with every pertinent partner and guaranteeing every important apparatus, gear, and new parts are accessible.

Security Evaluations: An exhaustive gamble evaluation is basic to distinguish possible dangers and lay out wellbeing conventions. This step helps in creating emergency courses of action and guaranteeing the security of faculty and gear during the shutdown.

Partner Correspondence: Successful correspondence is fundamental to guarantee that everybody in question comprehends the shutdown plan, extent of work, security systems, and anticipated results. Clear correspondence helps in organizing endeavors and alleviating any possible issues.

Execution of Shutdown: The real shutdown includes a group of gifted specialists playing out the important errands. These assignments might incorporate assessing electrical boards, testing and supplanting circuit breakers, redesigning framework parts, and it are secure to guarantee all associations. Severe adherence to somewhere safe norms and conventions is central during this stage.

Testing and Confirmation: In the wake of finishing the support work, careful testing and check are led to guarantee all frameworks capability accurately. This step distinguishes and amend any issues prior to bringing the electrical frameworks back on the web.

Documentation and Revealing: Point by point documentation of the whole interaction, including the work played out, any issues experienced, and arrangements executed, is vital. This documentation fills in as an important reference for future upkeep and further develops shutdown systems ceaselessly.

2024.05.18 09:05 Divergent18041989 Large format 3d printers

How I invented and created large scale AI 3d printer Skybot
Hello everyone..! My name is Dulat. Today I want to describe the history of creating large scale AI 3d Printer Skybot with dimensions of the printer 1000*1000*1000. In 19/05/2023 I started to visit different events in Bay Area CA. I already had a portable generator which I created at home. I was trying to bring that generator everywhere on each event, but people didn’t understand it. Even 1 time the police barely arrested me in Sunnyvale, CA for that , they thought it was a bomb which I brought to the mosque 😀. I explained that I am an engineer who worked before for Hewlett Packard. And I lost my job because the economy went down.
In one of the pitching events I met a guy with the name Ilde(later became my friend), who told me that I needed to go to the Hacker Place in Mountain View CA. After that I went to the Hacker Place. Over There I did pitch and I met a lot of people. I got membership. But the project didn't go well and I decided to convert that project to an EV portable charger for electric cars with principle drive and charge. After a couple months the project was ready. To test the device I went to the Tesla changing station. I met a couple people and they became my test clients. After a couple talks and tests I offered full installation with a solar panel on the roof. Unfortunately they rejected my offer, they told, that they were afraid to lose the Tesla warranty. After a lot of thought I decided to temporarily stop this project.
Next couple months I worked on a new Drone engine research. When I created an engine. I realized that I needed a big 3D printer to print my drone. That's how the idea came , and I started working on a large scale 3d printer, Skybot. Approximately in September 2023 I started to design Skybot in CAD software. Working on a project, day, night became my flow without stopping. It took me a month. I thought while everybody was sleeping I would accomplish a lot of work, that is how real entrepreneurs think. For the next pitch event at the Hacker Place I announced that I invented the 3D metal printer Skybot. I builded metal kit for the printer. After that I decided to put it aside temporarily and launch it with polymers and composites, because I had only a small office space. Oh, after my pitch 1 guy told me: Do you want to work for Big company? I was really mad. I really overworked and by mistake I rejected the offer 🙂; But my journey continued with the 3d Printer project. I really believe in it. During the next 7 months I was working on 3d printer parts, improving and assembling them. Ok In February 2024 I tested the printer, but Motors weren't strong enough and I had a lot of friction. Also during that 7 months I submitted a provisional patent to protect from copycats 🙂. The issue with them is that they steal an idea and they think they can do it. But result and hard work is a truth of success!. Nothing is easy. Ok finally I improved the design and motors. Also I decided if they can still steal any hardware I can protect it with firmware 🤣. After I spent approximately 2 weeks on firmware and after long hours of testing Skybot was ready to print the first model. For the first model I designed a sign for Hacker Place which is really “Torii Gates for the pitch. Viola I did it! I created a new industrial 3D printer in the world. Now let me describe the key moments in my journey. You have to work everyday on your idea. You were born and you have something from the Universe. You have to believe in it every single day and just work without thinking. Just think sometimes but not too much. And say I am going to do it that is, and thanks youtubers for the motivation videos and truth! Do prototyping of whatever you need. But the story not ended when last time I pitched at hacker place, nobody already thought that it’s new, and decided to implement Artificial Intelligence, but not just chat gpt, I thought it’s too simple, I implemented strong GPU computation algorithm which allow create 3d model from text based on description which user provided. Next time though approximately 2 months later in April 2024 I pitched again and the pitch event went very well by the way, thanks Spencer(friend who is working on quantum computer) for support.

TITLE
Auto electrical mayhem please help!
  1. Left rear indicator does not flash Left front indicator flashes really fast Right indicators both work & flash at normal speed
  2. When hazards signals are turned on only the Left side both front front and rear flash at normal speed RIGHT SIDE DOES NOT WORK
I have replaced the relay fuse and flasher as well as all fues in the fuse box even though the fuse box diagram has nothing to do with lights and nothing had changed. When relay fuse is disconnected indicators and hazzards still flash in their faulty form which im told the shouldnt.I have tested all tail lights via direct connect to battery and even swapped right to left left works connected to right side
  1. Head lights and high beams don't work by switch only Parker lights work headlights wired direct to battery work fine so those and bulbs are fine
Other notes: I left the Parker lights on by mistake a little while ago for about 5 hrs and returned to notice smoke and a smouldering wire which I believe to be a home made radio Ariel wire as since I have disconnected the battery I can no longer tune the radio and engine noise is present through the radio now.
As has been verified by toyota the vehicle which is a 1980 toyota hiace only has one fuse box any clues or help in the right direction will be great thanks

Supplements: Curcumin LongVida Quercetin Resveratrol Benfothiamine L-Carnitine Ubiquinol NAC NADH
Hi!
My name is Cate. I am 33yo and I am from Canada. Just to give a little bit of a background, I was always an extremely active person. I have a dog I used to walk and hike with hours a day. I would happily trade a party with friends just to go walk with my dog. I always was a highly sensitive person nervous system wise. When I was young, I would tell my mom to 'turn off the sun' (lol). I lived well with it though. I became a social worker. Worked crazy hours. I’ve had insomnia for years since a first nervous injury after getting EBV. I recovered though. I moved to a very small town 7 years ago and I live with my dog. I love Life and the outdoor. The only health issue I had was a sensitive nervous system and some rosacea. I also know now that I was prone to dysautonomia but I was extremely active so having low BP and athletic HR (50bpm) wasn’t unusual. I would sometimes get dizzy when standing but not always and never had tachycardia or palpitations from it. I also had slightly stretchy skin so was prone to EDS. I know now, you’ll soon understand why. Back in 2018, I took Accutane and burnt in the sun. I developed mild SFN but it went away with time and my life was normal. More than normal. It was great! :)
In December 2023 I was prescribed Doxy for my Rosacea. I took it once and had to stop as I felt warm patches of skin on my body. It reminded me of the SFN. So I didn’t take a chance. However, I noticed in the weeks after that I had developed a weird anxiety and some insomnia (nervous system injury #1). A few weeks later, I was told to try Metronidazole. I used it for about 2 weeks. All hell broke loose. It started with pins and needles in hands and feet. Never had that before so I didn’t think much of it. Then I became very dizzy. And my mood changed. I was crying for no reason, historically. And I started having burning skin on my limbs. I stopped the meds. But it was too late. I had developed palpitations, lower voice, weak legs, etc. I had a neurotoxicity. (Nervous system injury #2) My doctor didn’t want to believe it was that but was thinking GBS. I was however hyoerreflexive so it wasn’t GBS. But he prescribed some Ativan. I took it but quickly it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do. After even just a few days I could feel more anxiety. It was awful. So I stopped taking them after about 10 days. Things went from bad to worse: terrible panic attacks, flashes of light and stroboscopic type of images when closing my eyes, insomnia but to the point of not sleeping for a month, pelvic floor pain, myoclonus jerks, full body internal vibration, sensitivity to sound, it was scary. (Nervous system injury #3). I forgot to say but my periods also never came.
I was sent for an MRI and obviously my MRI was ok. But things were NOT normal. My palpitations were so bad, my heart would skip beats, I was so dehydrated cause I became hyperadrenergic. I also started to have anhedonia and my GI motility stopped. I could not feel hunger anymore. It was weird. But I wasn’t short of breath. Just had palpitations. Doctors told me I have FND, but it was not FND. FND doesn’t stop your periods, doesn’t mess with your hormones, doesn’t give you continuous insomnia for a month. And I never had a limb not functioning or had a seizure. Therefore. I left to find more and better answers. I knew it as the nervous system but I am not a doctor so had to rely on them for help.
I went back to my home town. I was a mess but physically I was fine. I was eating, digesting, but I had become more short fuse, still having the myoclonus, and all the other weird symptoms with some derealization and sound sensitivity. But I could still laugh etc. I went to see a doctor and he thought maybe it was a bad withdrawal so I was put on a high dose of Valium. Obviously all of my symptoms vanished but others showed up: I started having hand tremors and benzos would act very paradoxically on me. It was increasing my BP and HR, made me cry all the time and become aggressive. I had to come off then. I stayed on them for 6 weeks from 40mg (that’s crazy, I was taking 1mg of Ativan..) to 25mg and was then switched to Gabapentin. The hospital who did that however decided after a few days that I didn’t need the Gabapentin anymore and removed it. I thought I was gonna die. I started having tremors on my face and even to my tongue. I started being very agitated (obviously, I was going through a terrible withdrawal!) and was told they would inject me with antipsychotic. I honestly have never been this traumatized in my life. I restarted the Gabapentin and took it for a month. Hated it too cause ai was super paradoxical to it as well. Most people feel calm on Gabapentin. I felt so agitated and developed weird body movements like my head would twist involuntarily and my fingers were moving from left to right, especially on my left hand.
I stopped the Gabapentin after tapering. In a few days, I was back to normal. I was so happy. Could walk my dog daily, drive, go to the grocery store, I had found myself again. Until I went on a hike. It wasn’t a long hike but it was more demanding than the walks I was doing on flat ground daily. I would walk for several hours but never to the point of being anaerobic. On that hike I did though.
After the hike, I started feeling jittery. My nervous system didn’t like that at all. I went to bed, put on a meditation and fell asleep. That night is still traumatic lol. I felt electric zaps all in my body and spine. I sweat so much. I woke up drenched and with pain everywhere but mostly, every joint in my body cracked. Every single one. I had never been in pain like that in my life. But also, the palpitations were back but much much worse. And also high BP, which I never had even during the beginning after the neurotoxicity started. I wasn’t able to function anymore. I saw my GP and he didn’t like what he saw. I was completely dehydrated, muscles and joints were all painful, crazy palpitations, high blood pressure that I never had before, could hardly walk. He sent me to the hospital. He also confirmed this isn’t FND for the same reasons I mentioned before, and he knows me very well. All my muscles literally melted almost overnight. Like literally melted. And my skin had become stretchy as if all my connective tissues broke down (EDS flared up but like literally overnight).
Once at the hospital, they finally took things more seriously. I was started on on IV fluid for low potassium (very weird cause I make my electrolytes every day and never had an issue with that. You’ll see, it’s relevant). I also had elevated proteins in my body. Very weird too cause I wasn’t eating more proteins than I used to. I also had low WBC. My hormones were obviously all over the place. I was actually due to start my period and it never came. I stopped pooing again and stopped digesting my food. I know that’s dysautonomia. I had started to feel slightly better after a few days and walked a bit in the hallway. That night.. other ‘attack’. I don’t know how to call them. A few days after that, I still had pain in my muscles and was scared I was denervated (Metronidazole does that), so I though I would speed up the process by giving myself a full body deep tissue massage….. worse mistake of my life. Worse attack that night and the next day I had burning pain all over. Worse palpitations. All over. I also am now in a wheelchair because if I walk even a few minutes, I get an attack that night and wake up with even more weird stuff.
Fast forward to now. I am in Vancouver, Canada. As there isn’t many specialists in my small town (there isn’t any lol). I am worse than ever. My bloodwork look horrendous. My venous gases show I am in acidosis. I cannot breathe if I sit up or stand so I am laying down. My fasting glucose is at 6. I wore a CGM for months and I had perfect blood sugar and was never insulin resistant. I have low MPVs. Low potassium always despite eating bananas and drinking electrolytes all the time. My skin is completely dehydrated and flaking. I get palpitations even laying down.
I had a nerve conduction test and so far so good, I still have nerves. This is not just dysautonomia. Even at my worse, I didn’t have palpitations laying down in bed. And never to that extend. I have developed every problems of the Pentad like it is called: EDS, Dysautonomia, MCAS, Autoimmunity and I don’t remember the last one but I have it too.
I know this is an over reactive/over sensitive nervous system. That’s quite obvious. I have been running on NS injuries after NS injuries for almost 5 months. Also, my breath smells like ketones now I was told. I eat normally.
However, there is more. I forgot to say, on top of that, I have a pituitary tumour (but we know it’s not that causing the issues as when I was on benzos, my periods came back!), I have a thyroid nodula but it’s non-secreting (have had it over 10 years now) and I have a history of hypothyroidism for which I took meds for two months and then I never had an issue with it again. They tested it at the hospital and it’s ok. There is some auto-immunity in my family. My sister had a bout of RA after she gave birth, my mom has EDS for sure and also had Endometriosis, she also has orthostatic intolerance which is the very beginning stage of dysautonomia, she has rosacea prone skin too. Etc.
I know this cascade triggered viral infections and auto-immunity, but what do I do? These things are understood by only a small minority of doctors and I don’t know where to start. I think I will never get better if we don’t figure out the cause of my problems with the insulin and mostly why I have respiratory acidosis!
I don’t have ANA activated so far in my bloodwork for the main stuff but clearly I know what’s up..! I know EDS is considered a genetic condition but I strongly think as many doctors that they are auto-immune related. Never had any problems with that until my nervous system broke down which also activated inflammation and my immune system to start having real troubles.
Let me know where to start please, I am scared of dying in the hotel room. I am tired of being in bed but I know I am making things worse when I walk. I am developing ME/CFS, I know it, but it still won’t say why I am hypoventilating 24/7 with low potassium and low MPV and low WBC with high proteins. I am freaking out that my life and health are literally going to hell because of an antibiotic..! For a perioral dermatitis 😂..! I am remaining calm but.. not gonna lie.. it’s no fun.
Thanks for your help!!!

2024.05.18 06:32 Seyelerr How are we feeling about tire rules?

The tire scarcity certainly makes for some serious chess matches (which I enjoy) but part of me feels like these prototypes really need to be let off the leash a bit. We can talk about extra powedownforce too but a couple extra sets of tires is really the start. As well, tire blankets could be argued for on safety grounds alone.
I also want to add that LMP1 cars mystified me, and I’m all in on hybrid power. I care a lot about the environment and on the whole, I really support making racing cleaner where reasonable. But it is racing, and some tires and electric heat pads aren’t gonna do us all in. VW could’ve not cheated on emissions tests for years, instead of pulling out of racing. Might’ve made a bigger difference.
Tangent over. More tires? Or more chess? What’s the consensus?
