• Don't forget making vils until you have 110-130 depending on the game.
• Know the build order and can execute it reasonably well.
• Scout the map manually while cycling back to your tc regularly. Shift clicking on the empty map and letting your scout die to enemy tc fire is not "scouting".
  • If you encounter an enemy scout, change the direction immediately.
• Know the sheep spawn pattern for certain maps. For example: near the canal in mongolian heights; in the middle of the map near the river in rocky river; in the middle of the map at the choke points in mountain pass, in the middle of the map after sacred site in dry arabia etc.
  • if you don't know the sheep spawn pattern and your teammate is kind enough to flare the location on the map, FUCKING PAY ATTENTION AND MOVE YOUR SCOUT TO THAT LOCATION ASAP!
• Go for water if you have more than 5 deep fish. Or if you don't know how to play water (which even many higher ranked players don't), simply downvote them in your map list.
• Always make pre-emptive barracks/outpost against French/JD.
• Make archers/horsemen (and not spearmen FFS!) against desert raiders.
• Make units and guard the relics against HRE/OOTD/Ayyubids/Japanese.
• Use basic hotkeys and control groups.
• Keep scouting enemy to see what units he is making and counter appropriately.
  • Even better, chat with your teammate so that both of you can focus on massing a single unit type. Like English longbow and French knight.
• If you are getting tower rushed, don't fight it early on. Simply make a tower near your ally's gold and gather there.
  • similar logic applies to white tower rush. Abandon your base (unless you have siege) and move your vils to your ally's base.
• If your teammate is getting 2v1ed in feudal, then instantly go to the enemy and raid their base hard. Don't try to help him in a losing battle.
  • If you are being 2v1ed, simply abandon your base and move your vils to your ally's base.
• Know when to trade/boom and when to go aggro. For instance, don't trade early in dry arabia and don't go feudal aggro in altai.
  • Always make a market in the corner (AND NOT IN THE MIDDLE FFS!), even though there is a neutral trading post, because the chances are, the neutral trading post might be exposed to raids.
• Cooperate in walling. If your teammate walls his side off, then you wall your side. Don't leave any openings for potential raids.
  • If your teammate is mongols then walling both sides is completely your responsibility.

If you are not comfortable with any of these, then kindly refrain from participating in ranked ladder, go practice vs AI/custom lobbies, get better and come back again. Else you will be nothing but a burden to your teammate, and you'd most likely be the target of their ire.

P.S: Some Basic 2v2 Tips for Gold and Above:

Don't ever join random team ranked lobby, unless you have no friends who play aoe4 and are a big time masochist.

All of the arguments in opposition to the new AC game do not hold water:

• 'Yasuke wasn't even a samurai, he was a retainer'
  • A retainer is kind of samurai.
• 'Every single AC game has featured a protagonist native to that region'
  • Except in Black Flag when the protagonist was Edward James Kenway a Welsh born, British Privateer. Of course historically the whole pirate shtick involved Europeans sailing around the Caribbean, but the first black samurai probably has a rightful place in Japan.
• 'Why didn't they pick an actually native historical Japanese character like Miyamoto Musashi?'
  • Ubisoft have pretty much always designed games with exceptional premises, even as the execution and quality of their games varied wildly. As legendary as people like Musashi or Muramasa (for example) are, Yasuke is literally one of a kind and there are so many unknowns about his life to make him a perfect video game protag with loose historical ties. Yasuke is more dramatic/ provoking, and less predictable.
• 'Ubisoft have gone woke'
  • Concerns about 'wokeness' in video games tend to stem from developers sacrificing a compelling narrative to pander to certain audiences as a sort of performative activism, which leads to shallow storytelling. However, I'd argue that a figure like Yasuke holds so much potential to create a good story given what we know, and don't know, about him that its pretty much a double edged sword. They definitely could phone it in and do nothing with his character besides patting themselves on the back for social justice points, or they could make a banger story - we'll just have to see. Though like I said previously Ubisoft are great at making games with amazing premises, but the content of said games tend not to hold up as closer inspection reveals them to be formulaic Ubisoft slop. So like maybe they are going woke, but if its great game with a great story who cares?
• 'It's not historically accurate'
  • Yes, of course, the Assassin's Creed franchise that is famed for its historical accuracy.
• 'Whatever will actual Japanese people think of this appalling transgression'
  • Considering all the Japanese media he's been featured in I truly cannot imagine most would have a problem with it.

I have seen some other criticisms but they are less relevant like 'how is a black assassin going to hide amongst the crowd in feudal Japan?' kind of dumb considering clothing and AC Odyssey exists, and beyond that is straight up racism.
Contrary to what the post so far might make it seem like, I actually don't think that most of the outrage is from racists and sexists. Seems to me like its from people not thinking too deeply about the situation, not aware of the history behind the character, but are happy for a reason to shit on Ubisoft - understandably so I guess. Yet I highly doubt this many people would have had an issue if the protagonist was a white male, there would have definitely been mutterings of discontent but nothing on this scale. I mean no one gave a fuck when Team Ninja did it with the Nioh games.
All in all though it is truly is not that deep, its just a game. It probably says more about the people that are turned off by the colour of the protagonists skin than anything.

Is this to say that they couldn't have the black guy represented? No, he was a real figure but to go as far as to elevate his status to more than what he really was comes across as desperate to pander. In every AC game, the person you played as was a representation of the demographic figurehead of the culture the game took place in aside from Revelations which was an Italian man in the Ottoman Empire's capital. Now to not even be able to play as a Japanese man in this time period, that's just... depressing.
Edit: It would also seem Wikipedia changed the article about Yasuke in order to be more in line with Ubisoft's interpretations. Talk about 1984 level of historical revisionism for racial propaganda.

Anyone else kinda over the whole samurai/feudal Japanese games? Im still excited for ac shadows but feel like theres so many other better ideas they could of used. Think games like ghost of Tsushima and rise of ronin got my samurai/ Japanese assassin game fix. Like a Roman Empire based ac with a germanic tribesman protagonist would be a great idea. They know a little but not enough and my purpose for this visit is mainly for them to learn more Japanese.
Im thinking of enrolling them into Kumon but that’s just for their worksheets. I’d love to find somewhere where it’s a class where the staff are aware they are there to learn Japanese.

First off. Does Yasuke take away representation from Asian men? Is he denying audiences the ability to play as a Japanese Samurai?
Well, no. Because if you want to do that, there’s still Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, Way of the Samurai 1, Way of the Samurai 2, Way of the Samurai 3, Way of the Samurai 4, Way of the Samurai 5, Samurai Warriors 1, Samurai Warriors 2, Samurai Warriors 3, Onimusha, Genji, Shadow Tactics, Total War Shogun, Muramasa, Sengoku Basara 1, Sengoku Basara 2, Sengoku Basara 3, Sengoku Basara 4, Nobunaga’s ambition, Sekiro, Tenchu, Tenchu 2, Toukiden, Toukiden 2. And many MORE!
My point is, there’s a lot of games set in the Sengoku period. You’re not missing out on Japanese protagonists. GO PLAY THEM. You don’t need a shitty franchise like Assassin’s Creed to get immersed in feudal Japan.
Yasuke though… he is something new though, isn’t he? I don’t think he’s ever been a main character before. We haven’t really been able to play as a character like him before. Don’t you like a fresh experience?
And Yasuke has a fascinating story. Perfect for assassin’s creed’s grand historical epics. He was brought to Japan as a slave and became a samurai. Everybody loves a rags to riches story. He was given a stipend (made a samurai) by Nobunaga, one of the three unifiers of Japan. THIS IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE. GO TO AskHistorians IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME. So Yasuke is IN THERE in the historical drama. He’s in the thick of some really interesting historical developments. And then when his master dies, he disappears from the historical record, shrouded in mystery. That’s a perfect character for this kind of game, especially in AssCreed where they hand-wave historical inaccuracies as being misinformation from the templars. Plus… he’s actually MORE historical than Altair, Ezio, or Connor. That doesn’t even matter, though. AssCreed has animal stand battles with King George Washington. It’s never been afraid to distort history for a good time.
If you are tired of games feeding you the same old tired plotlines, then this dude is perfect for you. There’s great drama just built into his historical backstory.
Now personally I still think the game is going to be trash because it’s Ubisoft and they are probably going to put in $10 microtransactions for sword guard skins or something.
But THIS DUDE Yasuke checks all of your boxes if you want games to have interesting and fresh stories. If you actually GENUINELY care about compelling narratives in video games, put your money where your goddamn mouth is and prove to me that you’re not just reflexively shitting on the game because it’s got a black dude.

The most striking difference is within how they address the main protagonist (you as the player), as in Japanese he or she is referred to as 褪せ人 (lit: "verblasste Person") from the NPC dialog and cutscenes, however in the official German localization, it's: "Befleckten". In regards to the Japanese original, the kanji used is 褪 + 人 but 褪せ is from the ichidan verb:

*1. The Japanese title for Godfrey uses the kanji 王 ("König") since he is the elden lord, as opposed to German: they replaced that with "Eldenfürst" [エルデ王子] but the overall expression from the original Japanese is not connotated in German.
*2. The meaning of 忌み isn't conveyed correctly (in both Margit & Morgott) as it literally means "Trauernde" alone, but in the context of the game, it is connotated as "Abscheulichkeit" (from Japanese), which in no way it means "Grausame" So it is obvious that German just got it from English. Also, the presence of both Kanji 鬼 ("Oger / Geist") and 王 ("König") indicates their differences in hierarchical status too. Morgott bares the kanji 王 while Margit has 鬼 within his title, but in German (& English) the one with Margit is lost in translation.
*3. The word 軍兵 is a portemanteau comprising 2 kanji from ゴドリックの軍兵 implying that he was a soldier serving under Godrick at one point, as 軍 ("Armee") including 兵 ("soldat") forms 軍兵 (lit: "Kampftruppen") but this nuance from Japanese gets lost in translation.
*4. Fortissax's title in Japanese is a portemanteau of 2 kanji that have seperate meanings: 死 ("Tod") + 竜 ("Drache") forming the word 死竜 as he has the ability to inflict death blight towards the player, hence the presence of the kanji 死.
*5. In Japanese, Maliketh's title from his first phase has the word 司祭 ("Priester") instead of him being addressed as a cleric.

*11. Astel's title in Japanese states 暗黒の落とし子 ("Der finstere Bastard") while the German localization went for Stern der Finsternis.

*1. The word 恩寵 ("gnade / gunst") insinuates that it's a gift from the erdtree that inherits a boost in the player's stats.
*2. The Japanese 青い踊り子 describes the overall appearance from the talisman icon, akin to a dancer dressed in blue robes.
*3. 小瓶 connotates the shape of the talisman, as it is shaped like a small bottle.
*4. 細技 connotates "Zweig (Baum)" as the icon of this talisman is shaped like a tree branch, the word 犠牲 ("opfer") states that the tallisman will disappear once it is used, using that as collateral over losing all of your runes upon death.
*5. 輝石 literally means "schimmerstein" followed by 刃 ("klinge")
*6. The kanji 友 ("Freund") indicates that the talisman has a positive connotation (in a metaphorical sense), while 壺 ("gefäß") illustrates that it is a jar.
*7. 徽章 means "insignien / abzeichen" as it symbolizes that it belongs to the Carian family.
Note: It's difficult to convey directly from Japanese > German while keeping the original nuance in-tact, due to how different Japanese is to Indo-European languages.
The annotations within the original Japanese names are marked with * [numbered] there for further explaination, based on my own understanding to convey it from Japanese.
Since most translations into European languages are obviously from the English release of the game, therefore already loosing the intended meaning.
In hindsight:

• From the literal translations between JP to DE (in italic) found on second column of the table, and the official translation in German, which one actually stays faithful to the source language?
• Have you played the game in German? If so, how accurate is the translation? (I mean, did they localize it from the source language or English, still resulting in mistranslations?

So the trailer for Assassin Creed: Shadows has dropped and I immediately went to watch it to give my thoughts how I felt it.
And honestly… I felt a bit mixed. Was I excited? A bit. Was I concerned? A bit too.
The things that got me excited was I like that we were able to get to play an AC game set in feudal Japan. This is what everyone was hopping for and as for me, I was looking forward to it.
But as soon as I tried to think about the things that got me excited, so for some reason, it began to have a lot of concerns of the game.

1. Who is the main Antagonist? If everyone says that it’s gonna be Nobunaga, the chances are no. Cause he will die soon in 1582. So that's 3 years later when the game will begin.
2. How will Ubisoft make the player to be engaged with the Japanese history? This is one of the things I am very curious. When Unity came out and we all thought we would be engaged with the French Revolution which sadly we didn’t interact much so I wonder how much of the history event we will be able to participate in.
3. The gameplays. So far we got the cinematic trailer which is self explanatory about the combats, but still I wish we could delve a little more of it since the two characters play differently.

How about everyone? Were everyone excited, concerned or mixed from the trailer?
