2024.05.19 18:01 AutoModerator Reminder: Ask for drama recommendations in r/CdramaRecs

If you're looking for Chinese dramas, please post your request at CDramaRecs, our sister subreddit exclusively created for Chinese drama recommendations.
But first, here's a quick guide on how to make the requests:

First, use the search function

Before posting your request, search Cdrama for what you're looking for.
We get a lot of "drama like" requests, especially for dramas like Hidden Love, Love Between Fairy and Devil, Till the End of the Moon.
So, search for "Dramas like [name of drama]" you will find a lot of results.
For popular dramas like these, we'd recommend that you use the search function.

Tips on writing a good drama rec request

Tip #1: Write a good title and ensure it contains your criteria
Good:
Not great:
Tip #2: Ensure that your body contains the following information.
Note: You do not have to list ALL of these items, but at least tell us what genre and what you are looking for. It's even more helpful if you list dramas that you've watched.
Too often, we get low effort requests where the title of the post is just "Cdramas pls" and the body text is something vague like "I need more to watch" or "I just finished watching a CDrama and want more". That's too little information for us to go by, and unfortunately, this is a favourite tactic of spammers to increase their karma, so please don't do this. Posts like these will be removed.
Please ensure your body text contains some of the following:
Here are examples of good drama recommendation requests:
Hope it's all clear! Now, head over to CDramaRecs!

2024.05.19 16:59 La_Bonne_Nuit Always wonder why Carlos isn't a big part of the theatre community 🤔

https://youtu.be/SQDyOSxh3nw?feature=shared
https://youtu.be/nPtZizTuAJs?feature=shared
I always wonder why he isn't a big part of it 🤔 I mean, it's very lucrative. Look at Darren Criss and Jordan Fisher, they are both very successful on Broadway.
(Also Ariana Grande was always vocal about her musical theatre roots and that she is a theatre kid.)
I mean, I know that when BTR ended he almost immediately got married and got kids and that he focused mainly on his family. Additionally, I guess he is more a summer beach boy and that he doesn't want to live in the east coast / NYC. And maybe also his wive Alexa didn't want to move more near NYC. (I also acknowledged that Broadway is more left wing and he is right wing and that in the case of Laura Osnes that she was pretty much canceled after it was revealed that she was anti-vaxx...)
But I always wonder why he never is more vocal about musical theatre. And why he never auditioned more for musicals exept Aladdin (I mean, he would be a good fit for the role, but I don't think he ever got it)
The only thing he did was Grease Live and this was years ago. As far as I know, he didn't even do community theatre stuff.
He one said his dreamroles were Aladdin and Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton (The last one, I don't see him as it, but maybe as a John Lawrence/Philipp. He would be a good Usnavi in In The Heights, though, if he is able to rap)
Other musical theatre roles I can imagine him: Seymore in Little Shops of Horror (he follows them on Insta), Dr. Pomatter in Waitress, Orpheus in Hadestown, Shakespeare in &Juliet, maybe something in Jersey Boys.

2024.05.19 16:47 Small-Statement-3933 Why Tybalt Is Justified In Most Of His Actions

In the beginning he had every right to join in, there was literally a fight happening and members of his house were involved, of course he’d join in to help, besides, Benvolio is a complete hypocrite, being drawn but talking of peace, which Tybalt rightfully calls him out on, this shows that Tybalt has integrity, a moral compass, and that he’s smart and unafraid to speak up for his house and question others
Imagine that, shortly after there was a big fight between people in your friend group and another friend group, people in said other friend group, whom you hate, show up at YOUR party. I dunno about you guys but I’d be pretty saucy too.
Tybalt is often presented as just being really extreme and angry 24/7, we seem to forget that rather than just going up to scarp Romeo immediately, he actually had the decency to send a letter which Romeo did not reply to, perhaps if Romeo had explained a few things and calmly replied in the form of a letter the beef between them could’ve been quashed
Tybalt didn’t really want to kill Mercutio, Mercutio was literally just in his way, Tybalt literally expressed that he had no beef with Mercutio. Mercutio was just being really annoying (as per usual)
If I were Tybalt, i think i would’ve found Romeos explanation of “I wittereally love you🥺👉👈” as confusing, inexplicable, pathetic, and him trying to get out of the fight- I would’ve still been angry and duelled him regardless. Besides- at this point Romeo could’ve explained- what would’ve Tybalt even done. He doesn’t seem to get on with Juliet’s father, so he probably wouldn’t have told him.
Furthermore, if Tybalt did kill Romeo, he would be doing everyone like, a massive favour, Romeo is such a weirdo- 17 marrying a 13 year old after knowing each other for a few hours?🤨🤨🤨🤨
Tybalt is only portraying himself as agressive- he isn’t actually as bad as the play makes him out to be, he is likely putting on an act of agressiveness to prove himself as future capulet partriach. We can see this as nurse portrays him as more friendly and sympathetic, she even states that he was her ‘best friend’- this makes it clear that if you actually got to know Tybalt then he wouldn’t be that bad
He has no right to be seen as the anatagonist

2024.05.19 15:42 whatsINthaB0X Media companies and video game companies purposely aren’t writing cool stories for black actors to further the race division.

The new AC game just highlights this issue. Assassins creed in revolutionary America? Native American. AC in Greece? Greek. AC in Egypt? Egyptian. AC in Japan? Black guy…
And to say anything against this is just an easy shoe in for racism. But why can’t we have a badass black character just be a badass black character?
Now I’m not saying it’s the same, but I remember watching the Last Samurai with Tom Cruise when it came out and thinking “this is a little too far fetched and white knighty” and that wasn’t an unpopular opinion.
With the caveat that there are certified racists using this as a platform for BS, no one cares that the main character is black. Just like no one (again no one of reasonable mind) cared about the Romeo and Juliet thing and no one cared about The little Mermaid. It’s about lazy, condescending writing pandering to current political views.
These companies are govt black sites that are feeding social issues into the mass media and now video game space. Maybe.

2024.05.19 13:04 KWRO69 TBA theaters for Swept Away and Romeo and Juliet

Does anyone know if the theater locations for Swept Away and Romeo and Juliet are known yet? Can't find the information anywhere. Or is there a "secret " place to find this info. I tried to figure this out last year for another production, before the tickets were announced, and gave up. Why so secretive? I'm just trying to plot out where I want to try to sit. :-)

2024.05.19 08:37 Designer-Training682 My personal ranking of all the routes in the "Princess Evangile" VNs ( All 4 routes from the original will get mixed with their Epilogues in W Happiness )

https://preview.redd.it/wxs9xm7knb1d1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=e54a0e5c3105a47293be0284a119d6379b3fc792
9th: Rise
Rise Route in the original is really good, but her Epilogue is so underwhelming IMO, so sadly, she is ranked the lowest.
8th: Konomi
SEKKUSU ! I will be honest... I never saw Konomi as a suitable love interest for Masaya. I've always seen her as a cute, little sister... The route... is fun... not gonna change my personal view on Konomi but it's serviceable. Also her chanting "Sex ! Sex ! Sex !" alone in her room will always be funny to me. However, the reason why Rise lost in this route is SO STUPID ! Masaya gone back to square one ! The students saw him as the Seductive Serpent, because he's dating a girl who's younger than him... EXCUSE ME ?! Isn't Ritsuko younger than him but somehow Rise still won in Ritsuko's route ?!
7th: Ruriko
The moment Masaya punched Ruriko's fiance in the original, I know Ruriko is gonna be a great love interest. Their dynamic is great, a hard-working, used to be poor, jack of all trade Masaya and rich, kind, naive, Ruriko. Though it sucks that we just know Rise lost in this route with no explaination whatsoever. Overall, a great route, just not as good as others.
6th: Tamie
This route is a great change of pace. With the first chapter dedicated to the "Fun, Lightning" tour, 1,5 chapter dedicated to Tamie regaining her memories, it's an unique route. And her personality grew on me.
5th: Marika
A Romeo and Juliet kind of route. Seeing Marika's true self under a more casual, natural lense... it's such a good feeling, and hey.... this route managed make me stop hating Marika's grandmother and make hate the other students SO MUCH. And I love how Masaya gave the Headmistress a final "F*ck you" before leaving Vincennes.
4th: Mitsuki
The "Enemy-to-Lover" route I originally looked for when I first download the "Princess Evangile" VNs. Mitsuki is definitely really unlikeable in the first 12 chapters of the original, but she redeemed herself. The route is definitely great, seeing her being more confident and... beating Rise is great... in its weird way.
3rd: Ayaka
Ayaka's journey is consistently good, which is great ! Love seeing Ayaka being more mature, Ayaka and Ritsuko somes loves each other more, the Headmistress having a true 180 change and Ayaka's family being so happy at the end... It's just heartwarming.
2nd: Chiho
This... is surprising... I consider Chiho's route the worst in the original... Her epilogue though... it's just so good... Childhood friends is another romance trope that I love beside Enemy-to-Lover... But once you read it, it's just heartwarming, Masaya helping Chiho's family, AND the final scene... They worked it out... all the way... Seeing Masaya now is married and having a beautiful wife and a cute little girl... I sobbed... I did...
1st: Ritsuko
What can I say ? Seeing Ritsuko being so passionate about her relationship with Masaya... plus their wedding scene... it's awesome.
THAT concludes my Princess Evangile journey... NEXT STOP: "THE FRUIT OF GRISAIA !"

What is a movie that everyone hates but you just find it mid?
This movie to me is just a definition of a mix bag. As someone who loved the first three movies, this is just a divisve movie to me. I loved Hound, Lockdown, some of the action is fun, I liked the ideas on this one, and Mark Wahlberg's character is fine, the music is unsurprisingly really great, same goes for the CGI, but the Romeo and Juliet scene is what's keeping this movie from giving this a 6/10. I also don't like Optimus Prime's new samurai design, it makes him more of a human rather than resembling him as a truck, it feels weird to me. That said, I prefer it over The Last Knight.

2024.05.19 04:37 Yeetyeet20202020 I cheated got with the afair partner. I regret so much of it.

For context this all started 9 years ago I have had a lot of time to reflect on this and I guess I just want to share my story.
Back in 2014 during my (18 m) freshman year of college I met a girl (18 f) I'll call her A. She was fun and cool with lots of common interests. We were in the same clubs and I developed a crush on her. She had some emotional issues which made her drop out of school but she came back in the spring semester. Looking back on it I did a bit of "white knighting" for her to try to be there for her in order to have her like me. Eventually that summer we ended up fake dating because she wanted her parents to stop asking her if she was going to date anyone. Later that summer we made it official and actually dated. I visited her once during the summer and she visited me during the following fall semester because she decided that she wasn't going back to college, but I slowly started to feel more and more distant from her.
During my sophomore year I met another girl (19) (I'll call her B) and we started to get along. I was feeling lonely so I would invite her to watch a few shows in my dorm common room. I knew she had a boyfriend but I kinda got the feeling she didn't care about him much. At first I was trying to encourage my friends to date her, because they were single. She started to develop feelings for me and I developed feelings for her and we ended up hooking up. I felt terrible about it and the line from Hamilton "I wish I could say that was the last time, I said that last time, it became a pastime." Kept ringing in my head.
In the end A broke up with me. I assume that a friend of hers from the college told her what was happening. She never confronted me about it, she simply said we were better as friends abd ended it there. I felt like crap and wanted to end it there with B. B ended up using guilt to encourage me to date her properly after her boyfriend broke up with her.
We dated through out college, at first people were excited because they thought we were a cute couple. Then for a while my friends started asking me if I was happy in my relationship with B. I would tell then yes because I was young and stupid.
Skip to 2020 during the pandemic we were fresh out of college and living together. We would still have my 2 best friends over but didn't really talk to anyone else or go out much due to covid. She never liked me leaving the house or doing anything because of covid. She ended up making me miss my grandfather's birthday. Which should have been a sign, but I kept trying to rationalize it as her being worried about covid. My friends were still asking me if I was happy and it kept getting harder to say yes. I watched philosophytube's video "Men.Abuse.Trauma" and started tearing up and I couldn't understand why. I kept rationalizing it as "She isn't as bad as thier ex."
In December she broke up with me. I felt devastated because I kept trying to sacrifice more and more for her. I kept hoping and praying that there was something that I could do to make myself the perfect boyfriend agian.
4 years later I am only left with the quote from Romeo and Juliet "These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume. The sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness And in the taste confounds the appetite. Therefore love moderately; long love doth so; Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow."

2024.05.19 03:59 FireStarter1996 Anime with a blonde witch who makes magic with her phone

Hi, does somebody know the name of an anime where the lead character is a blonde witch who makes magic with her phone and has a cat? Her best friend has brown hair and her love interest has dark hair. Also, there is an episode of a costume ball and she dresses as Sherlock Holmes and her love interest as the Tin man and her friends were Romeo and Juliet.
In the first episode she makes a marshmallow with love potion for the lover interest of her best friend (?)
This is all I know and maybe it’s from the 2000s

2024.05.18 22:01 freddys_glasses Propspotting books

Do you like props? I like props. Saved by the Bell, being a school show, features a lot of books. Here are some of them.

American History

Of all the books in the series, this is the most heavily featured. Miss Bliss is the history teacher and this is the book she uses. This is the book that in "Practical Jokes" supposedly contains the guidelines of a criminal trial in chapters six and seven. If you're wondering, no, it doesn't have anything like that. This is also the book used for Mr. Testaverde's freshman history class. They're still using it as sophomores in Mr. Dickerson's class. The book continues to make appearances throughout the series, probably because they had so many of them. The actual book is American History by John Garraty, a middle school history textbook from 1982. You can check out the teacher's edition here.

Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare Made Easy

In "The Substitute" they use various books in the Shakespeare Made Easy series from Barron's. You're familiar with this style of book, right? Elizabethan English on the left, modern English and explanations on the right. Apparently they had a set of books for various Shakespeare plays, covered the titles, and wrote Romeo and Juliet on the covers. So when Screech is serenading Lisa, he is actually reading out of Hamlet. Note the prominent skull on the cover. Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Lisa. You can read the actual Romeo and Juliet version here. Tony Crane meanwhile has what might be an evaluation copy.

Physics Made Simple

In "Beauty and the Screech" Kelly is failing physics. Screech agrees to tutor her and they fall in love. Kind of. We've all been there. All the while they're using these slim red books that don't look like textbooks. That book is supposed to be Physics Made Simple, a title in the Made Simple Self-Teaching "Encyclopedia" series. The pretense of being part of an encyclopedia explains explains why the spine looks like that. Presumably, the production had several different books in the series and someone added the word Physics to all of the covers. The contents are simple and threadbare with crude illustrations. It is indeed not the sort of textbook you would find in a US high school in the 80s. These books appear in many other editions and you can read one here. You can spot these books in other episodes filling out some book shelves.

Geometry for Fun and Challenge

The class that drives Jesse to stimulant abuse is Geometry. Jesse spends the episode buried in and stressing out with this book. High school geometry is not hard but in her defense everything is hard when you're not getting enough sleep. Anyway, the book is called Geometry for Fun and Challenge. Here is a copy of a later edition. Despite the casual and playful name, it is a standard high school textbook.

The many books of Date Auction

In "Date Auction" we meet Brian. He is a stuck up intellectual-type who is reading the Hunchback of Notre Dame at The Max. I think it's a hardcover edition of this Signet Classics translation which you can see but not read. Lisa comes on strong multiple times and I think he makes a good case that they don't have anything in common. Unwilling to take no for an answer, Lisa pretends to get sophisticated. She shows up talking about Tolstoy and carrying an armful of random books. What books? There's the Gault-Millau Le Guide de Paris, a travel guide full of stuff that doesn't make the usual travel guides. I think her copy is in French. Here is an English version. There's another book called In The GAP, an evangelical Christian how-to book. I'm guessing it was chosen for the cover. A third book, The American Character, is a book from the 1940s exploring why Americans are the way they are. A fourth book is Alexandre Dumas: The King of Romance, a biography. I think this is the only one that is fit for purpose.

Odds and ends

Toward the end of sophomore year, the production started using book covers. You know, brown grocery bags cut up and used as a jacket. Or maybe you don't know. I think it's an American thing. No more taping over stuff or trying to change the title of a book but also basically no more bookspotting. Here are some odds and ends to fill things out. Miss Bliss usually has a couple volumes of The Illustrated Library of the World and its Peoples on her desk among other books. World Geography and You cameos in a few scenes. In "Screech's Woman", we see Zack sleeping before class starts with Spanish for Mastery 1 on the desk in front of him. In "Driver's Education" there's an unknown textbook. I was surprised to learn that driving textbooks are real (I would have assumed it was all handbooks and workbooks) but I don't think they're using one because they've taped over the cover again. In the later seasons we see a few magazines, including Wrestling Superstars and Hot Rod.
That's enough, right? Too much? Okay.

2024.05.18 18:00 AutoModerator Reminder: Ask for drama recommendations in r/CdramaRecs

2024.05.18 16:59 VisualVideo7557 English Essay Practice

Looking for ways to make my English scores go up, cause I ate up Y7 and Y8 English cause all we had to do was analyse a character, never a theme, and I walked out of those End of Years repping a 35/40. Now this year, we started Of Mice and Men, Creative Writing and this term we're doing R + J. We've been doing theme-related end of term tests, and I can never get above 22/30. Asking for advice since EO Year exams are coming closer, and wanted advice on what I should practice, so here's a rough outline :
How does Shakespeare present conflict in Prince Escalus’ speech and in the wider play of Romeo and Juliet?
Shakespeare introduces the theme of conflict in Prince Escalus’ speech through his disgust with the warring of the Montagues and the Capulets. He describes the two warring households as ‘enemies to peace’ and creates juxtaposition between the citizens of Verona and the Montagues and Capulets. He further creates this idea by saying that the ‘(swords)..canker’d with peace to part your canker'd hate’. He describes the swords as corrupted with hate because their wielders (Montagues and Capulets) are fueled with their hatred that even the inanimate objects have a temper. He further creates this idea that inanimate objects have the ability to feel emotion through his exclamative of ‘Throw your mistempered weapons to the ground!’ His use of the iambic pentameter combined with an imperative further demonstrates his authority and power over two houses, and he finishes his speech by declaring a death sentence on anyone who disturbs the civil peace again.
(wider play) In this Shakespearean sonnet, he introduces the theme of conflict through the imagery of bloody hands ; the quote ‘civil blood makes civil hands unclean,’ Blood will be staining otherwise ‘civil’ hands, and forebodes a sense of murder and the unprecedented violence that will take place during the play. The two households are described as ‘foes’ with an ‘ancient grudge.. Breaks to new mutiny’ . The juxtaposition between ‘ancient’ and ‘new’ further emphasises how long this conflict has been going on for, and has not stopped, and is impossible to end, (‘nought could remove.’) Furthermore, the Prologue introduces the theme of conflict through the play’s two main lovers, Romeo and Juliet. They are described as ‘two star-crossed lovers’ who will ‘take their life’. This astronomical imagery implies that their fate is written in the stars, and that the play will revolve around the ‘fateful passage of their death-marked love.’ The sonnet’s rhythm of iambic pentameter also heightens the tension and helps to emphasise the inevitability of their deaths.
