Kind older man paid for the majority of our lunch!

2024.05.17 09:32 TheZuckuss Kind older man paid for the majority of our lunch!

Today my wife and I moved hotels, out of the Disney bubble and into Shinjuku. While waiting for our room to be ready we wandered the streets for something to eat. She's a picky eater (no fish or seafood), so I was letting her pick the place. We found an A-frame sign of food that interested her, but was a bit confused as to where it actually was, believing the place was in the basement but the name/Kanji didn't seem to match up. An older man walked up and checked out the sign as well. I motioned to question if it was down the stairs and he confirmed, then he went down and looked to us to make sure we believed him. We went down and the place was fairly busy with salary men having lunch and he was about to be seated at the only open table. He saw us come in and motioned for us to take the table. We sat and motioned for him to join us (I was willing to buy his lunch, since he was nice to us). He sat for a moment ant then an empty seat opened up and he jumped to it. All was good and we ordered our food and as we were eating he came back over speaking Japanese and smiling. I thought he was saying goodbye so I thanked him again (arigato gozaimas) and smiled. A bit later, we go to leave. Expecting our bill to be about ¥2300, we were asked to pay about ¥300. The cashier conveyed through pantomime (and japanese that I didn't understand) that the old man had paid. I smiled and started to well up. It was very sweet and I have no real way to thank him.
TL:DR Old man helped us locate the specific shop and paid for most of our meal.

2024.05.17 09:26 ThrowRANecessary6858 I was inappropriate towards a colleague after a few drinks last night, should I apologise or is it best to let it be? (M28/F24)

More of a "basic human interaction" issue I guess!
I'm on a work trip abroad and one of my colleagues and I went out last night to see some of the sights. Initially I had no ulterior motives (I've recently separated form my long time gf, and have been busy with work so relationships aren't really on my mind atm), we had simply discussed wanting to see some of the sights before she left (this afternoon), so I invited her along to one of my evening walks and she happily accepted.
We had a great evening, talked all night and there was definitely a connection, body language, light touching etc. Later in the evening we joined some of our other colleagues for dinner and had a few drinks, where one of them commented to me in private that he thought we looked good together, which got me thinking that actually, she was very much my type and perhaps I should see how things go.
A few more drinks are had, then we all return to our hotel where everyone parts ways - she comments that she needs to pack her things but wished we could have had more time to chat, so I wish her goodnight and we part ways.
Myself and another colleague stay for another drink, then head to bed.. at this point I decide to send her a text saying that I had a great time, enjoyed her company etc., and she reciprocates. This is where I fuck up.. I then stupidly decide to invite her to my room and she doesn't reply. I awoke this morning feeling mortified. I also realised she probably thinks I'm an asshole, as no one really knows I've recently separated from my ex (she had been a part of a conversation earlier in the week, where another colleague had mentioned my ex as if we were still together, and I did not correct them).
We work in a very large company and it's unlikely we'll bump into each other at work, but I feel like I should apologise for my inappropriateness and also explain that I am no longer in a relationship... but i'm unsure if it's too late for that and should just let it be and wallow in my embarrassment... part of me is also thinking that i'm overreacting. As i'm sure you can tell, it's been a while since I've been this position!
Any advice please?

2024.05.17 09:25 cosmic3gg I never got to grieve my uncle, NGuardian was jealous

I saw a post on one of the CPTSD subreddits and it made something huge click. Therapy's not until next week so I wanted to talk about it with someone. I was raised by my NGrandparents who were only ever my legal guardians. But my grandma and I moved to another state when i was 1 while my grandpa stayed behind until he could retire.
When I was little (between 1-6 years old) my grandma liked to treat me like a doll, but expected she could put me down when she was bored. I remember she dropped me off at her brother's trailor a lot. He lived nearby with his wife.
He was a heavy smoker and died of a heart attack when I was 6. For the longest time, i didnt think it affected me. I would always say I was lucky to not know grief until my cousin died when I was 19.
Today I remember the rest. She dropped me off at his trailor a lot. Now that the memories are back, it's the majority of my memories from that time. I grew up in that trailor park, despite my caregiver being unemployed in the suburbs. That house had 5 rooms, she always hid from me, and when i was there i was cooking and cleaning and housekeeping until i moved for college. She didn't even bother to look at me when I was there.
I remember the trees, and how the soil smelled. This was in the desert, so I remember the adobe and how it looked with sunset's light, i remember mesquite wood and seed pods and fire pits and cigarettes and beer and spicy air at dinner time. I remember Fleetwood Mac playing on their radio, the crochet in the trailor, cheetos and cucumber gatorade. I remember the cats and dogs and snakes and ground squirrels, i remember a tire swing, and i remember the neighbors were friendly. I remember feeling dread and sadness when my grandma's car rolled in, i remember the gravel crunching and hot tears on my face. I remember the lesbian couple who gave us their cat, and when my grandma gave him back but told me he left because i was a bad kid.
My uncle taught me how to get stuffies from the claw machines. We used to plug quarters at a bowling alley i think? I just remember the toys. He gave me a lot of toys. My grandma gave them all away.
I remember seeing him on his death bed. I remember feeling scared but being told not to be. I remember not knowing what to say to him and being chastised instead of guided. I remember being in my grandma's car after he died, and her telling me I'm not allowed to be sad because he was her brother and he meant nothing to me. I couldn't possibly understand her feelings so I needed to shut the hell up and stop bothering her. I remember she started talking shit about his wife. She apparently said something to her about how she treated me, cause i remember her being very angry about how she was my mother not this woman. After he died we never spoke to her again. I wasn't allowed to be sad about that either.
I've been crying for a few hours now. I've reached the shaking-with-rage part. Who does that to a kid? You're the one who neglected me and dropped me off with people who cared about me. He was my family too and I wasn't even allowed to mourn him. I always said "my grandma's brother died" and couldn't understand why people felt sorry for me too. It's because my feelings mattered. I just wasn't allowed to think it.

2024.05.17 09:21 IvehittenR0ckBott0m Marrying a Navy Sailor: Advice on Life in Kings Bay

Tdlr at the bottom I'm new here and need some info. I'm 20, a recently disabled Army vet, and my best friend, who's in the Navy, is stationed in Kings Bay. We're planning to get married, and I'm excited because I've wanted to be with him for eight years. It's my first time moving by myself, so I'm looking for advice on living in Kings Bay and how BHA works. My best friend has changed since joining the Navy, and I want to know if there's something to be alarmed by. What are the psychological and emotional risks of marrying someone in the Navy, and what should I be aware of and for seasoned Sailors that are married, what things that your wife has done this help you through your time and service
Tdlr I’m getting married and receiving BHA at Kings Bay. I wanna know more about Kings Bay. I also wanna know what are the risk of marrying a sailor as well as (mentally on both ends) and advice from seasoned sailors on how their wife has helped them through service

2024.05.17 09:17 LautyGameplaysYT I need some help looking for a specific Manhua that i stumbled upon a few months ago.

So the thing is, a few months ago (cant recall how long, but atleast 5 months ago) i was scrolling through YouTube when i found one of this "recaps" of Manhua/Manhwa/Manga vids (i belive this particular one was a Manhua, hence why im posting this here). after binging the entire recap i really enjoyed it and since then i have forgot about it, until a few days ago when i remembered about it and wanted to actually read it. however, i cant seem to find the original video that i viewed nor can i find any information on the particular Manhua anywhere on the internet. So i was hoping any you here might know the name of it so that i can find it and give it a proper read. here is what i remember about it: - The Manhua in question is a cultivation Manhua, where the mc is born (not reincarnated/transported) into a world where the cultivation is a form of almost Extinct art. - The main protagonist (male, cant remember much of facial features, but i seem to recall black long hair, tho don't quote me on that) after witnessing a battle between two immortal cultivators at the very start of the Manhua goes to seek a tutor in a temple to teach him cultivation, the guy from the temple does not take him seriously since himself is not very versed in cultivation (since cultivation is almost extinct), however gives him vague advice and provides him with a place to stay. - Once the time passes and the guy from the temple dies, the MC goes to a city where he finds out about technology and society, since he lived in the temple with his master (the old guy from the temple) - This world is around modern day in terms of technology (smartphones, pc cafes, social media and all the stuff) and a lot of people are streaming in social media and boasting about their "cultivation" prowess (altho this is all special effects and GCI to draw viewers and get donations) - The Mc once arriving to the city goes to a pc cafe where he rents out a room with a pc and finds out about this "cultivators" in social media and is very impressed by their "cultivation" prowess (remember, the mc is an actual cultivator, with actual cultivation techniques (altho basic ones by this point) all of the others in social media are using CGI and special effects) -The Mc decides to seek advice from this "Cultivators" by creating an account in a streaming platform and uploading a video of his actual cultivation techniques, asking the other cultivators for advice on how to improve. and he uploads them as "A Slow Cultivator" as his nickname. -Using the "advice" (just some random bs that a few people commented in his video seeking aid) he actually manages to improve his cultivation. he even goes in the chat of some of the more known "cultivators" of social media, getting their attention. i seem to recall one of this more known "cultivators" that ends up interacting a lot with the mc becoming the main secondary character is a girl that has a floral themed red dress (very popular social media "cultivator" very famous, cant recall facial or hair features). -In some point, the mc ends up trying to make a cultivation Pill for this girl and sends it to her via mail, and her later makes an unboxing of all the gifts that her followers sent. however the pill that the mc gave her actually worked and gave her a very big boost to strength and i seem to recall making her look younger (tho dont quote me on that last bit) -More towards the end of the Manhua the mc ends up in a sect of actual cultivators, however most of them are weak, and the mc has a very important sealed treasure (small square box with talismans all arround it) from his master`s temple (old guy from the temple) that has something to do with a door of heaven and the immortal path (cant recall this last part very well)
I believe this wraps the most important/memorable parts that i remember. Does anyone know the name of this Manhua?

2024.05.17 09:14 Jammed_Revolver Alternative to mirage?

Was staying at the Mirage end of Septembestart of October. That's now out the window, will be getting the refund sorted shortly I'm sure.
Stupidly mentioned this to the wife when she's stressed out of her eyeballs going away for the weekend where she's running a hen-do. Oops. Said I'd find options before she got back.
Any pointers?

2024.05.17 09:10 GuiltyOne85 Was always told to trust my pet in regards to spirits whether good or bad

So my wife, 5 kids (ages12-23 from 3 different mothers) and I just moved into a 4 bedroom house + Den. We have 3 cats... An orange one (I call him dumbass), a Maine coon (I call him fat ass) and a black and white one (I call her whoreo). We've only lived here for a few weeks and currently I'm not working so I'm using my handyman skills to do some repairs. Now my 2 oldest daughters room is in the attic (or den as they called it) that they share. Now I may be over reacting but dumbass, fatass and whoreo all absolutely refuse to go up to the attic and when forced they hiss, growl and swat at things that we can't see. Along with little things like Stephanie's dolls being found where she knows she didn't put them (always in their room but not on the walls shelves) or Laura's pictures constantly falling off the wall or being found at a weird angle. The cats always run out of the room and look to the roof, hissing and growling and even chittering (my best description of dumbasses noise/action).
I wa always told cats/dogs can feel the presence of spirits even though we can never see them. I recently lost a brother and my wife recently lost an uncle, so I'm just curious it's this just me and my families paranoid mind over-reacting or is this something we should take seriously??
Those pictures that are found at weird angles include our kids and either her uncle or my brother so my mind is racing trying to find a sensical reasoning behind all this stuff.... The only thing is ALL this happens when we are IN this house.
This house was built in 1932 and has a colored history to say the least.... Burnt down once by arson in 1965 in which 1 person died, rebuilt in 1969 and in 1977 the new owner killed himself in the attic in what she (real estate agent) claimed was a "firearm accident".
Don't know if we believe the real estate agent (Re/Max) about these incidents but why would she lie??
So what should I do??.... Already smudged the place with a Nakota Sioux elder and that didn't seem to help. We not moving as buying this house kinda put me and the wife in debt bad but it was the PERFECT house for our family.
Honestly if it was just me seeing these things I would say it was time to quit smoking weed but my wife plus all 5 kids are witnessing these things so I know it just ain't in my head.... My 2 youngest (both boys) (12 and 15) refuse to go up to the attic. My middle daughter (age 16) will only spend a few minutes up there before coming down and telling us she feels like someone is watching her. And no she said it ain't the eldest 2. That really freaks me and the wife out.The cats won't even go near the steps to the attic. My wife won't even go up there, she'll either yell at the 2 girls or come get me to go get the girls if we leaving, having supper etc.....
Please any advice would be greatly appreciated

2024.05.17 09:10 Berkosbobo My Experience with the AOC Q27G3XMN Monitor

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about this monitor, so I wanted to share my own experience. Previously, I used the Dell 2721DGFA. The IPS glow on that monitor drove me crazy, and the contrast ratio was terribly low. I could never get the colors, especially red, to look right. So, I decided to upgrade to something that would give me true HDR and better contrast. I was torn between the LG 27GR95QE-B and FALD panels. However, the coating on the LG was terrible, and the brightness was unacceptable. QD-OLED models are either unavailable or outrageously overpriced, so I went for the AOC Q27G3XMN.
There is a noticeable red tint on this monitor, but reducing the red value to 45 worked for me. I have the BK model, which doesn’t have an sRGB clamp, so I use novideo_srgb (same as I did with the Dell). The Windows 11 HDR tool was essential for HDR setup. If I want to use the sRGB color space, I disable HDR in Windows and turn off local dimming on the monitor (it remembers the local dimming setting for HDR and non-HDR modes). Compared to the old Dell, the contrast is night and day.
This monitor is paired with a PC meant solely for gaming, so I tested it with Diablo 4 first, as I was most concerned about dark smearing in such a dark game. While there is some ghosting, it didn’t bother me, and the trade-off for better contrast is more than worth it. I've seen concerns about input lag with VRR and HDR enabled, and I'm highly sensitive to input lag, but I didn’t notice any. VRR flickering, often mentioned, is present but very rare; for example, in Diablo, I cap the FPS at 65, and it occasionally appears when I open the map but is hardly noticeable.
Viewing angles do change the color and contrast, but I resolved this by raising the monitor (I have a desk arm) compared to the Dell by 2cm and tilting it 1-2 degrees upwards, so my eyes are directly in the center. I sit at an arm's length distance from the monitor.
HDR performance is excellent. Due to Windows 11’s implementation, it needs to be configured for each game, but the pop and brightness during explosions provide fantastic immersion. I also tested HDR video, such as this one. Blooming is negligible with ambient room lighting and the local dimming set to medium. Other demos also look fantastic, with impressive colors, contrast, and brightness. I was amazed by the black levels of this panel; I’d say it’s 90% of an OLED, if not better. My wife, who uses an OLED for work but isn't technically inclined, couldn't tell if it was an OLED or not.
Oh, and the price was €450, which is significantly higher than what it sells for elsewhere in the world, but I don’t think I could get anything better for the same price or even €200 more. The OSD controls are awful, but once set up, you don’t have to mess with them much.

2024.05.17 09:09 HenriHawk_ Recovering old messages that all say "waiting for this message, this may take a while"

Hi, a couple of years ago (fall 2022) a friend and I created a room over matrix between us (we use Element if thats of any help)
a couple months later, we stopped using it for about a year, due to unrelated reasons
a while after, maybe a year after we stopped using it, i realized that there were sentimental messages in the chat between my friend and i
i went and tried to access the messages, but it tells me "waiting for this message, this may take a while"
i asked my friend to log in to decrypt the messages, but she had forgotten her login information. a while later, she ended up resetting her account.
so now, she cant see the chat history between us. i can still "see" the messages, but they're all waiting for decryption.
because she reset her account, it seems she cannot verify the old messages.
is there any way at all to recover our chat history? we can do whatever is needed, and its not that important, but there are messages which are sentimental to me stored there.
what can i do? any thoughts? suggestions? thanks :)

2024.05.17 08:51 eastwestfutons Sheekee What? Tu-Tommy What?

Sheekee What? Tu-Tommy What?
Today we’re going to have a chat about Shikibutons (sheeki-boot-ons) and Tatami’s (tu-tommys). Yes, we know…it takes a few tries before it rolls off the tongue, but we have confidence in you. Give it a go.
OK, now you’re ready — let’s dive right into the ancient world of Japanese sleep.

A Look Back

Have you ever seen an image of a traditional home in Japan? If you have, chances are that you’ve seen a Shikibuton mattress or a woven Tatami mat. This simple pairing has been a staple in traditional Japanese homes for hundreds and hundreds of years.
In Japan, Shikibuton mattresses were and are generally used in Japanese Tatami Rooms. The Tatami Room, is a room with minimal furnishings and a wide open atmosphere, that is covered with a foundation of woven Tatami mats used for sitting or sleeping. Dating as far back as the 8th century, Tatami mats were a symbol of social status. Only the wealthy could afford them, while commoners were forced to sit on the bare floor. Times have changed.

Fast Forward

What about modern Shikibutons and Tatami Mats?

It’s important to note that what we in the Western world call a “futon” is actually a sofa futon and is inspired by the traditional Shikibuton; but is its much *thicker cousin.
(*No emails about “fat shaming” please.)
Today’s Shikibutons — or Japanese futons — are still thin, versatile mattresses and continue to be designed for placement on Tatamis, which allow for proper aeration of the mattress. They are typically filled with natural materials and enclosed with a cotton cover, which lends to their growing popularity. Tatami mats, which are also made from natural materials, provide a firm, breathable base and come in a variety of sizes and configurations.

Why is Japanese Sleep becoming so popular?

There are a several reasons why this Far East custom is trending in our neck of the woods. Here are just a few…
  • Minimal — the minimalist design is appealing
  • Economical — reasonably priced
  • Portable — roll up mattress is great for travel
  • Compact — space saving
  • Aesthetic — Far East vibe
  • Firm Support — back and spine aligning comfort & sleep experience
  • Storage — convenient, easy storage
  • Natural — made from natural woven rice straw
  • Lightweight — easy to move
  • Flexible — transitional and multipurpose
  • Versatile — wide variety of Tatami floor plan configurations — think puzzle pieces

How to Plan for Your Japanese Sleep System

So, if Japanese sleep is exactly what you’ve been looking for, it’s important to think about how you plan to use your space before you take the leap. Take some time. Dream a bit. This will help you create a room that really works for you.
Then, instead of the familiar real estate saying, (location, location, location), we suggest “measure, measure, measure’. You can’t go wrong with this…actually you can, that’s why we suggest doing it 3 times.
Next, keep in mind there are different configurations for both our regular sized Tatami mats and also the Bed Sized Tatami’s. Sooooo many great choices!
Finally, if needed, consider where will you store your mattress and mat(s) when not in use?
All of the above tools will help get you started and of course,we are only a phone call away!

2024.05.17 08:46 aphex2000 An Ode to "Hunger To Create"

we need more of this. i'm still mesmerized by the night. i cut my trip short to attend the event and i'm glad i did.
give artists the freedom to go off the beaten 4x4 track and you give space to evoking magic.
great decision to move to berghain instead of säule, as much as i like the more intimate setting there, this journey between halle & klubnacht sound deserved the big room. i'm not sure if it was because of the 3 week break but the soundsystem also did its part. subbass tickled me in all the right places and the kicks hit me like a brick.
we got in around 2130 to quelza welcoming us with ambient layered with speeches. leciel got the still timid crowd to move, live vocals on the bh floor? yes please. dasha brought the energy down again and back up. people starting to wake up now. it was great to have different corners of the floor for the different acts, also breaking with the usual.
i was giddy for colin. a bit too much in fact as i chatted him up before his set, or rather slung statements at him in whatever the 40+ synth nerd equivalent of a 16yo throwing her bra at a backstreet boy is. i'm still embarrassed, sorry colin.
despite all that, the patron saint of modular nerds brought his a-game to town. as if to show the superbooth participants what is possible on his comparatively small rack for the day. it was 1h of pure fireworks. free that man from the kickdrum and he showers you with a most exquisite sound bath. as a dj set it would have been great, as a live set it would have been impressive, as a live set on a modular rack - it's unbelievable. i have no idea how he did what he did but i'm still in awe. he ended with a barrage of kicks that went straight into my soul. thank you.
quelza took it from there and delivered closing feelings on a school night, more experimental than usual. by that time the crowd was thinning out, so ample space to let go, some familiar sunday faces appearing. unfortunately my batteries were empty just after 3, too bad eisbar wasnt open for a cheeky ice cream energy boost, so i bid my farewell - happy and exhausted.
i'm very happy also that it was a ticketed event so it brought new people inside and i was delighted seeing some of them catch a bit of the magic of this place.
a success! let this be the first of many and also inspire more events like this or reef to give us something new.
PS: i'm constantly struggling with berlin, but this night, together with other things happening that day was the city giving me a "i know i'm fucked up and we have our differences, but you wouldn't want to be without me either" in the most beautiful way on my first day back in town

2024.05.17 08:38 CompetitionMotor4927 Anxiety beat me

So I basically just canceled my colonoscopy and endoscopy when I was already in the operating room. Long story short had my colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled for today and the prep was not that bad made sure not to eat much two days before prep began had the big jug and if you put it in the fridge and drink it cold it's honestly more pleasable. Had clear yellow stool and everything was good. Percedure was a 4 but doctors office called me around 12 telling me I could go in sooner if I wanted. So by 1 I was there already yes I was nervous as hell the whole drive there but kept telling myself everything was gona be okay. Got there checked in staff was nice at check In sent too the second check in before pre op. When I was called in too pre op I was nervous when I got to my room and the nurse started making me sign consent forms. But when she told me about my sedation !! The way she explained it saying I wasn't gona be completely out that it was a twilight sedation basically telling me I would probably hear them and see them possibly I totally lost it my body entered a fight or flight response my anxiety shot through the roof I couldn't stay still just thinking of that. Then on top of that I have a tendency of fainting when getting blood drawn or iv pokes and this nurse couldn't get the iv in and just kept saying oh I can't get it in ama poke you again. I ended up fainting twice and nit being able to drink water was so horrible I was sweating bad shaking basically having a panic attack my wife was called in for moral support and did work alot eventually another nurse came in and put the iv fast and I didn't even feel it. Was taken too the op room and literally left there for a good 20 minutes I was so nervous anxiety was so high and then just waiting there I couldn't do it I felt so nauseas and like I was gona pass out I eventually told the nurses get me out am done and they did. Tomorrow ama call and reschedule it was honestly such a bad experience but I need too get it done ughh.

2024.05.17 08:35 Jaded_Being_1462 How do you feel about the English translation of LOTM

Until I started subtitling the audiobook, I never considered reading the English version of LOTM. To my surprise, the quality of the English translation seems somewhat 'disrespectful' to the original book. With the money Qidian made from it, they should have hired at least one English literature graduate, if not three English literature professors, to proofread it.
Even though I'm not a native English speaker, I couldn't resist the urge to translate some parts in my own way. One thing led to another, and now I have a brand new translation of Chapter One.
Now, I have a question for my fellow fans of LTOM:
Here is another thread of mine discussing subtitling LOTM's audiobooks: https://www.reddit.com/LordofTheMysteries/comments/1csz252/dramatized_audiobooks_with_english_subtitles/, in case you're interested.

Ouch!
Ow…ouch!
Ow…my head is killing me!
The fantastic yet surreal dream surrounded by whispering and murmuring shattered away instantly, Zhou Mingrui who was sound asleep felt an abrupt throbbing pain deep inside his head, as if his head were ruthlessly clubbed. No, it felt more like something sharp penetrated his temple, followed by twisting and stirring.
Feeling disoriented, Zhou Mingrui wanted to turn around, clutch his head, or sit up. Yet, unable to move his hands or feet, he felt like he had lost all control over his body.
Looks like I’m still in some sort of dream, didn’t really wake up… Moments later, I might even think I'm fully awake, only to realize I'm still asleep… Familiar with such experiences, Zhou Mingrui tried desperately to concentrate, hoping to break free from the grip of darkness and disorientation.
However, trapped between wakefulness and sleep, the willpower was as elusive as smoke, difficult to control and concentrate. Despite his efforts, his thoughts kept wandering wildly, with all sorts of ideas coming and going.
How could I suddenly have a headache out of nowhere in the middle of the night?
Especially one which hurts so badly!
Could it be something like a cerebral hemorrhage?
Damn, am I going to die at such a young age?
Wake up! Wake UP!
Huh? Doesn't feel as painful now? Although it still feels like a blunt knife is cutting through my brains…
Sure thing is, I won’t be able to fall asleep any more. How am I supposed to show up for work tomorrow?
Why even bother going to work? This is a legitimate headache, perfect for time off! And no need to worry about the manager's grumblings.
Put it this way, it’s not so bad after all. Yea, free time off for me!
In between the waves of throbbing pain, Zhou Mingrui gradually accumulated a sense of elusive strength. Finally, with a determined effort, he straightened his back and opened his eyes, breaking free from the state of half-sleep and half-wake.
His vision was blurry at first, then tinged with a faint crimson hue. In his line of sight, Zhou Mingrui saw a sturdy wooden desk, upon which lay an open notebook. The papers were rough and yellowed. Where the title supposed to be, there was a sentence written in strange characters, with eye-catching thick, dark ink that seemed ready to drip.
To the left of the notebook, along the edge of the desk, was a stack of seven or eight neatly arranged books. On the wall to their right, were grayish-white pipes inset into the wall, with wall lamps at their ends.
The lamps had a classical Western style, about half the size of an adult's head. It featured a transparent inner layer made of glass and an exterior grid made of black metal.
Diagonally beneath the unlit lamp, was a black ink bottle shrouded in a pale red glow.
On its embossed surface was a blurry angel figure.
In front of the ink bottle and to the right of the notebook, lay a dark-colored pen with a fully circular body. Its tip shimmered with a faint glint while its cap rested right beside a brass revolver.
A gun?
A revolver?
Zhou Mingrui was completely taken aback. Everything in front of him felt absolutely alien, nothing looked like his own room.
Shocked and confused, he came to the realization that the desk, the notebook, the ink bottle, and the revolve were all coated with a layer of crimson “veil” from the light shining through the window.
Without realizing what he was doing, he raised his head, looking up bit by bit.
In the midair, beyond the heavy smooth darkness, hung a crimson full moon, glowing silently.
Hiss… Zhou Mingrui felt inexplicably horrified, as he stood up abruptly. However, before he could fully straighten his knees, a throbbing pain struck his head, draining all his strength. He fell, with his buttocks slammed heavily back onto the burly wood chair.
The pain didn’t stop him for a moment. Zhou Mingrui popped up, turned around in a fluster, and began examining his surroundings.
The room was not big, with a brown door on both of his sides. Against the wall in front of him, was a wooden bunk bed. Between the bed and the door to the left was a cabinet with two opposing doors and five drawers beneath them.
Next to the cabinet was a pipe of the same grayish-white, inset into the wall at the height of a person. What distinct it is that it connected to a strange looking mechanical device, which had a few of gears and bearings exposed here and there.
Items resembling coal stoves, sat in the right corner of the room near the desk, along with some kitchenware such as soup pots and iron pans.
Through the right door, was a dressing mirror with a couple of cracks, standing on a wooden base emboss with simple plain patterns.
While looking around, Zhou Mingrui noticed himself in the mirror, the present him.
Dark hair, brown eyes, wearing a linen shirt, slim, average-looking features and a rather deep outline…
Hiss… Zhou Mingrui grasped the situation immediately as many helpless and confused thoughts surfaced in his mind.
The revolver, the classical European style decorations, as well as the crimson moon that looked nothing like Earth's moon—all of them were screaming the exact same thing.
Who am I?
C-could I have transmigrated?
Zhou Mingrui's mouth slowly opened wider and wider, bit by bit.
He had grown up reading web novels, even fantasized about such scenes from time to time. However, the fantasy was incredibly difficult to accept now that he found himself in one.
Classic "Talk? Yes, yes! Action? No, no!", isn’t it?
In less than a minute, Zhou Mingrui had already started to sarcastically critique, attempting to make the best of whatever situation he found himself in.
But for the throbbing headache forcing him to think fast and sharply, he would for sure be convinced that he was dreaming.
Easy, easy, easy…taking deep breaths, Zhou Mingrui was trying really hard to make himself to calm down.
Just as his mind and body began to relax, pieces of memories started to flush, slowly flooding into his consciousness.
Klein Moretti.
A citizen of the City of Tingen, Awwa County, Loen Kingdom in the Northern Continent
Recently graduated from the Department of History at Khoy University…
His father was a sergeant of the Imperial Army, who had sacrificed his life during a colonial ware with the Southern Continent. His bereavement allowance made it possible for Klein to study at a private literature school, paving the way for his admission into university…
His mother was a devotee of the Evernight Goddess, who passed away the year Klein passed the entrance examinations to Khoy University…
He also had an elder brother and a younger sister, living together in a two-bedroom apartment.
Their family was far from wealthy, and its financial situation could even be described as somewhat strained.
Currently, the family was supported solely by the elder brother who worked as a clerk at an import and export company …
As a college graduate majored in history, Klein was proficient in the ancient language of Feysac, considering the origin of all languages in the Northern Continent, as well as the language of Hermes, which was commonly found in ancient mausoleums and often associated with sacrificial scenes and praying rituals.
Hermes?!
Zhou Mingrui's mind started to race as he reached out to rub his throbbing temples.
He cast his gaze toward the desk at the opened notebook, but to realize that the strange looking characters on the yellowed paper started to look somewhat familiar, then increasingly recognizable, and finally comprehensible.
It was a statement written in Hermes!
The thick, dark ink, seemingly ready to drip, read:
“Everyone will die including me myself!”
Hiss! Zhou Mingrui felt inexplicably horrified. He instinctively leaned back, attempting to escape away from the notebook, and the ominous statement on it.
Being so weak, he almost fell down, but managed to extend his hands in a fluster to grasp the edge of the desk.
He felt that air around him air started to roar, filled with faint whispering and murmurings. It felt just like listening to horror stories told by elders when he was young.
He shook his head, telling himself that all these were nothing but an illusion. Getting back onto his feet, he looked away from the notebook while still breathing heavily.
This time, his sight landed on the shimmering brass revolver, immediately realizing something unexplainable.
With Klein's social status, in what universe he would have the money or access to buy a revolver?!
Zhou Mingrui couldn't help but furrow his brow. Deeply puzzled, his eyes were caught by a reddish handprint at the edge of the desk, which was even darker than the moonlight, as well as thicker than the “veil”.
It was a bloody handprint!
A bloody handprint?
Zhou Mingrui instinctly flipped his right hand, that was pushing against the edge of the desk. Looking at it, he saw his palm and fingers covered in blood.
In the meaning time, the throbbing pain was getting a little bit better, yet didn’t go away, binding him like one tie after another.
Did I smash and injure my head? Zhou Mingrui guessed as he turned around, walking towards the cracked dressing mirror. After just a few of steps, a medium build figure of dark hair and brown eyes appeared clearly in front of him. The person had a distinct scholarly air to him.
Is this the present me?
Klein Moretti?
Zhou Mingrui was stunned. The poor lighting of the night obscured his vision, preventing him from clearly discerning something he had noticed. He continued forward until he was just a step away from colliding with the mirror.
Illumined by the crimson veil-like moonlight, he turned his head and began to examine the side of his forehead. A clear reflection appeared in the mirror. There, no his temple, was a grotesque wound with burn marks around the edges, blood staining the surrounding area. Grayish-white brain matter was slowly seeping out from within.

2024.05.17 08:31 Lohe1234 PFO closer device installed 9 years ago just found thrombosis on device wants to do open heart surgery.

My wife F39 none smoker 190lb
on Monday passed out at work and threw up. Took her to the ER and she had anemia (measured at a 7.3) was 11 last Oct when her OBGYN checked it. Also troponin levels rising and they thought might have myocarditis. They gave her blood and multiple iron IVs this week for the anemia. And have been doing multiple test. Did a MRI yesterday and they saw a thrombosis on the PFO closer device that was installed about 9 years ago trying to treat chronic migraines.
Had a cardiology scope (TEE) today that did an ultrasound to get a better picture of the blood clot and a upper gi scope to check for bleeding since have had severe anemia since getting admitted and we still didn’t know why. They didn’t find any bleeding inside from the gi scope.
But the head of cardiology department just came to her room and said the ultrasound scope showed the blood clot was very large. She said a piece of it might have fell off and caused the myocarditis. She had the whole team of cardiologist’s on my case and decided since the clot is so big and starting to get loose they don’t want me to leave on blood thinners chancing the clot will fall off and cause a massive stroke. So they want to do open heart surgery this Saturday or Sunday. They are going to remove the pfo closure device and the clot and put a patch on to close it all up.
I started doing research on clots development on PFO/ASD closer devices and it’s very rare from the 3 cases studies I found it’s 0.2-2% chance and one of the studies of 1000 the 20 that had them only 3/20 required surgery the rest got treated with blood thinners and monitored with further TEE to make sure it was going away.
What questions should I be asking them I want to make sure this major surgery is the best treatment. I guess more to reassure ourselves than anything.
