2024.05.20 02:09 OliveSpins Help with Vehicle Registration Renewal for Low Income Disabled Senior

I’m in need of assistance to renew my vehicle registration, now overdue by two weeks. I’m a permanently disabled senior, living below the poverty line on Social Security Disability, SSI, and SNAP benefits. The fee for renewal is $126 and I don’t have it. Not even part of it. I’m still trying to recover financially from vet bills from the sudden illness and death of my service dog six months ago.
Because I live in the rural woods (Pacific Northwest of the US) 45 minutes from the nearest town, and I’m on my own, I’m entirely dependent on my truck to get to town for provisions, the food bank, and medical appointments. I can’t get a ride from someone else or take public transportation because those options are not available to me.
If someone out there can help, please know that it’s for something that will have lasting value - the registration renewal is good for two years! You’d be setting me up to be able to continue driving legally to access the essential goods and services I need to survive. For what it’s worth, before posting this here I first researched other options for help locally and statewide, but found none who could help with this specific need. I will provide whatever authentication a donor may need if possible. This is my first request on Reddit. Thanks very much for reading.

Why Planning Your Parties Like a Boss Makes All the Difference
Nailed It! Why Planning Your Parties Like a Boss Makes All the Difference
Let's face it, Reddit fam, we've all been to those events that felt like a total disaster. Lukewarm pizza, venue confusion, and activities that would make a sloth cry. But it doesn't have to be that way!
Hear me out, planning parties and events well can actually be a game-changer.
Here's why:

Epic Guest Experience:

A well-organized event is like a well-oiled meme machine - everything runs smoothly, the vibes are on point, and your guests have a blast. This means happy memories, stronger connections, and maybe even a legendary Reddit post about your party prowess.

Stress Slayer:

Planning may seem like extra work upfront, but trust me, it saves you tons of stress on the actual day. No scrambling for supplies or panicking because the venue forgot about your booking. You can relax and actually enjoy yourself, knowing you've got things under control.

Budget Boss:

Disorganization can be a budget black hole. Impulse pizza orders and last-minute venue upgrades add up fast. Planning helps you shop around, compare prices, and avoid unnecessary spending. Plus, you can avoid the awkward "whoops, forgot the napkins" moment.

Like a Boss:

There's a certain satisfaction that comes from throwing a well-organized event. You'll be the hero of the party, the friend everyone wants to plan things with. Plus, you gain valuable skills that can be applied to other areas of your life.
Here are some Reddit-worthy tips to get you started:

Set a clear goal:

What kind of vibe are you going for? Wild dance party or chill game night? Knowing this helps guide your planning decisions.

Guest list it up:

Figure out how many people you can comfortably accommodate (avoid the sardine can situation).

Budget like a pro:

Set a realistic spending limit and stick to it.

Plan the activities:

Games, entertainment, or just good conversation starters? Keep your guests engaged.
Location, location, location: Choose a venue that fits your needs and budget.

Food glorious food:

Don't underestimate the power of good snacks (or a full meal, depending on the event).

The power of the playlist:

Music sets the mood!
Remember, planning doesn't have to be scary.
There are tons of resources online and even apps to help you out.
So next time you're thinking of throwing a party, channel your inner event planning guru and create an experience your guests will rave about.

Upvotes for well-organized events! What are your best party planning tips?

2024.05.20 02:08 Mjposted Our timeline moved up and now I don’t know what to do.

We found out last week our son has HRHS, is in heart failure, his heart is enlarged, and there’s an extreme amount of fluid around his heart. We booked our flights with a clinic out of state to leave tomorrow. Today I noticed he wasn’t moving and checked on his heart rate and it was now over 200 and sounded weird so I sent it to my OB(who is my SIL) and she’s said he’s in arrhythmia from the heart failure and he could pass away any minute or it could be another week or so. Originally it was a 4-6 week timeline and I couldn’t bear the thought of waiting that’s why I chose to fly and do TFMR.
Now I cant decide if I want to wait it out and deliver with my SIL once he passes which makes me feel the most safe but don’t know how traumatized I’ll be. Or do I get it over with and fly out and be put to sleep and wake up and it’s over. How on earth am I supposed to decide?!
Thank you for any support or opinions on what you would do. I know it’s a personal decision. I do not plan to hold my son. That sounds terrible. I just want foot prints.

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 2)

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $100,492,203. ($166.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $216,763,646.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.
  • Budget: $90,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $33,602,376. ($52.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $65,900,249.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $13,756,082. ($21.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $68,673,228.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,739,802. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $113,398,237.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $148,095,302. ($215.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $269,958,228.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,491,364. ($54.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $122,426,792.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $32,746,941. ($47 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $106,956,330.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.
  • Budget: $35,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,306,030. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $84,920,539.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.
  • Budget: $40,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $47,047,013. ($62.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $67,647,013.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory. It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Cooper, ultimately winning one for Best Sound Editing.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.
  • Budget: $59,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $350,159,020. ($463.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $547,659,020.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $125,070,033. ($163.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $243,870,033.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $36,276,286. ($45.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $57,176,286.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $103,804,407. ($129.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $174,804,407.

Richard Jewell (2019)

"The world will know his name and the truth."
His 38th film. The film stars Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde. The film depicts the July 27 Centennial Olympic Park bombing and its aftermath, as security guard Richard Jewell finds a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and alerts authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed the device himself.
The film received positive reviews, but several journalists criticized the critical portrayal of the reporter that first accused Jewell: Kathy Scruggs (specifically for trading sex for stories). The film marked another commercial failure for Eastwood.
  • Budget: $45,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $22,345,542. ($27.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $44,645,542.

Cry Macho (2021)

"A story of being lost and found."
His 39th film. Based on the novel by N. Richard Nash, it stars Eastwood and Dwight Yoakam. Set in 1979, it follows a former rodeo star hired to reunite a young boy in Mexico with his father in the United States.
Nash tried to get this film made all the way since 1970s, but no studio was willing to pick it up. He restructured his films as a novel, was successful and studios were now interested. There were a few candidates for the leading role; Robert Mitchum, Roy Scheider, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eastwood himself. Arnie was willing to star in the film back in 2003, but put it on hold when he was elected Governor. He was set to star after leaving office, but the project was scrapped after his affair scandal was made known. In 2020, Eastwood signed to return.
The film received mixed reviews, particularly for its writing and acting. It was also a huge flop at the box office, and marked Eastwood's least attended film as leading man. David Zaslav criticized the studio's decision to finance the film. Warner executives allegedly said that although they knew the film was unlikely to turn a profit, they felt indebted to Eastwood for his decades-long relationship with the studio and his consistent ability to deliver films under budget and on time.
  • Budget: $33,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,310,734. ($11.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,510,734.

The Future

He recently wrapped post-production on his 40th film, Juror No. 2. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina, J. K. Simmons and Kiefer Sutherland, and follows a juror serving on a murder trial who realizes he may be at fault for the victim's death.

Across those 39 films, he has made $3,536,687,297 worldwide. That's $90,684,289 per film.

The Verdict

Insanely profitable.
Even the bombs do not taint this kind of reputation. Eastwood has made all these films under budget and never past its deadline. That's something that has to be treasured for studios, no wonder he's been staying with Warner Bros. since 1976. His ability to get films ready in short notice is impressive; Richard Jewell started filming in June and it was on theaters in December. One of the most impressive actors who transitioned into directors. You can tell that Sergio Leone and Don Siegel taught him well.
Now of course, his method of directing can also have its setbacks: he's often known for not asking for multiple takes and he skips rehearsals. So that means the performances of his actors aren't always the best they could've done. Which is why, despite making some masterpieces or fantastic films, he's also made a few films with weak technical aspects: poor lighting (J. Edgar), questionable logic (Cry Macho), obvious props (the fake baby in American Sniper), and some bad acting (Gran Torino and The 15:17 to Paris). At the same time, it's clear he can also get extraordinary performances through these methods; Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman won Oscars for starring in his films.
He also proved old age doesn't prevent you from continuing to work. He's turning 94 in a few weeks, and he's still directing films. Manoel de Oliveira directed films until he was 104, so perhaps we still have a few more years with Eastwood behind the camera.
P.S. Ever since I started this series, there's been suggestions that I should do "Actors at the Box Office" multiple times. While the idea is intriguing, that doesn't seem feasible for me. I'd have to categorize whether the actor is leading, supporting, original IP, adaptation, remakes, etc. Besides, with the continuing decline of star power, it's tough to decide what actor is truly moving the needle at the box office. That's why I'm making solely "Directors at the Box Office", because the director is responsible for the production. If the film succeeds, the director will get credit. And if the film flops, the director will be blamed. So this is the closest you'll get to "Actors at the Box Office".
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.20 02:05 Asleep_Bar_1433 How do I move on safely from a complicated marriage.

Okay, so long story short marriage wasn’t ideal with wife, we made a child together and I love him tremendously, but a few years in she got paranoid about me cheating (and I didn’t) there were just rumors from folks wanting a good story to tell. So she asked to move to apartment and hour or so away from our town, but when she didn’t have to work she’d be back home with the family. To keep peace and to do as she needed, I complied. I wanted my marriage to work regardless, we’ve known each other since we were kids.
So the bright side of this was we get to date each other again which is kinda fun. One weekend she’s working and staying in her apartment, she asked me to drive up and have a date after work. I’m so excited, I shower get all ready plan out how our kid can stay with a grandparent and I go. It’s a really good night, really, so I hope this isn’t too graphic but we had been arguing about adding another child to the family, and I was so happy to be with her well, not to be too graphic but I tried to do it twice and did. I didn’t care if she got the kid she wanted even though I wasn’t excited about it , I was excited that maybe this weird and awful part of my marriage was done .
Cue to a few weeks later, she seems really off, worse than usual and she doesn’t want to be in the apartment at all she’d work 14hr shifts and still drive an hour back home. But I get some exciting news, I get promoted to a new job, I’d be traveling and teaching stuff with my company. And she’s home with us most of the time which is good. The day I was to drive 4 hours to start my new work. She tells me that she’s pregnant.
After our date this didn’t sound odd at all, I wasn’t happy about the second kid but new job and training folks. I left for work.
But things get more and more odd, her first pregnancy she was so happy, just delighted to be carrying my child. 6 months pass by but she felt like I was right our family could not sustain another kid, she mentioned abortion multiple times which was odd. But I was okay with it. But she’d go to the clinics for appointments then tell me that she couldn’t do it and she’d leave the clinic, I told her it was her choice. Anyway, things felt so wrong, I had an intrusive thought. What if it’s not mine?
So I probe, I dig, I naw at it, I couldn’t stop. Finally after a while she told me it may not be. I felt like death, I wanted her to go. I wanted her gone. But then she said it, she was SA one night and didn’t knows what to do. She just said the lock on her apartment broke and there was a party downstairs, she was tired from work, and one of them cat called her on the way up. I’ll spare any more gory details.
This entire event broke me as a person. Up was down, right was left. I cried balling for a whole day over what happened to my wife. But I still needed to know. I paid almost 2 grand to find out who’s kid it was all the while doing my best for her although this broke me. We got the results, it’s not mine. I spend another day weeping. But I had to explain this as I could to my parents. Because the kid woulda been mixed and we are both white.
And we live in a small town, news would spread, and is vehement that she doesn’t want folks to know she was SA’d, and before anyone chimes in with “lol naw brah” go fuck yourself, you didn’t see the fear in her eyes when she told me. She had a more successive career she coulda just left with someone else.
Anyway kid is born, and my dad told me it doesn’t matter, you love her that’s your baby, so I do that. As far as he knows I’m his only father. He’s still pretty young. But this whole ordeal broke me. I started to drink a lot. Eventually and yeah this is too long. She asked for another full separation. But still wants sex but I can date and fuck other girls I do.
But I stopped having sex with her six months ago and am ready to move on , when I’ve tried to do this before it gets ugly af, threatens to take away the kids etc, but I met someone I really like and am ready to move along. How can I do that without her going ballistic on me?

2024.05.20 02:04 shirtlessclown Preset for overlays?

Hey everyone! I've been working with editing software since I was about 10, but am fairly new to deadlines and workflow optimization. I have a few overlays for this podcast I work on (shown in this photo) where I have two videos under an overlay PNG. (Photo link again)
My question is: Is there a bettefaster way to maybe make a template or something of the sort to save time on needing to crop and size down each clip into the overlay window? The way I do it now is I have the position and scale numbers written down on a post it for the first clip, and then copy and paste attributes to each of the clips after to line them up. As you can guess this takes a good amount of time doing it for 4 different overlays over a 40 minute episode. Is there any optimization I'm missing out on or is this just a tedious task? Thanks!

2024.05.20 02:03 heavymental_kp really bad burn on my leg from motorcycle exhaust when bike fell over…. explain this symptom?

I was riding my bike onto a lift to work on it and kinda lost balance and the bike tipped over and my leg got cooked. It’s about 8in wound. Urgent care said 2nd degree. Skin got cooked off and it’s open and exposed. No blistering yet and we’re on day 3..
Using silver sulfadiazine and burns ares wrapped with sterile pads and gauze but it’s loose and not cutting circulation…urgent care said it’s not infected as of yesterday.
Question/advice:
When I’m walking my leg feels pretty good. laying down, my leg feels fine and there is no pain but as soon as I stand up, the pain gets so intense and I can’t put weight on it or walk for a minute or two. I also get kinda light headed, hot and weak, almost like I’m going to pass out. Once I finally get a couple steps in, I can walk pretty much normally, just slightly painful.
I assume it has something to do with the blood rushing to the wound but is there a way to minimize this? It’s brutal. Also, what exactly is happening to cause this?
Thanks!

2024.05.20 02:03 stuckandrunningfrom2 Throwing Axes Is Not A Great First Date

Don't get me wrong, the ax (axe?) throwing is amazingly fun. I thought it would be a good date to avoid the "starting at each other across a table" problem, but it caused a different problem -- having zero time to actually talk to the other person because you are throwing axes and knives and stars. Basically we left there having had maybe 5 minutes of conversation and the rest was "great throw!" "nice job!" "yay bullseye!" "okay, it was nice to meet you, bye." It would be better for a group date or even speed dating so you had some time between sets to chat with other people.
So, I'll go back to suggesting walks or a small museum for first dates.
Have you done an activity for a first date that you thought would make a good first date and it just...didn't?

2024.05.20 02:02 Defiant_Grab_5364 Any way to help a friend who’s bought into the fantasy?

Hi all, I’m sure this isn’t the first time someone’s asked this question here but a close family friend of mine who’s always been a sister figure to me has been in Amway for about six years now and is still fully sold on their philosophy, community, promises and what not. I see it as nothing but a scam (when I hear “you can’t really google us, it’s very private” that’s a pretty big red flag) but I still want to be there for her if I can (with a boundary of course), in case things go really downhill and she realizes how much time and money she’s wasted.
I’ve learned enough about amway throughout the years to understand the kind of people they target and she was honestly in a perfect place in her life for them to come in and swoop her up, desperately wanting economic freedom while hating her job and seeking a lot of emotional validation from other people. While at work, she encountered a customer who just “casually mentioned” to her that some of their friends had been able to walk away from their jobs young with full economic security for life and she immediately took the bait. Six years later, that customer and the friends who were mentioned are all her “mentors” and she is as obsessed as ever with the company and its sense of community, will preach for 20 minutes straight about how it’s like a family (“but NOT a cult!”). However she still relies on her full time day job for economic security and doesn’t seem any closer to early retirement than when she started.
I know that I can’t force her to see the red flags when she will do anything to avoid accepting that Amway is just too good to be true (she has no other plan so she needs it to work out), but since there are a lot of people here who have been in amway and left, I’m wondering if there’s any way you’d recommend to still be of help to the person stuck in the fantasy so that maybe when everything does eventually come crashing down it’s not as bad? Many thanks

2024.05.20 02:01 chozabex How to stop being so uptight/neurotic/angry all the time?

I (21f) grew up in a household where my parents always fought over the littlest shit, like my mom would get mad if my dad missed a turn while driving even if we weren't in a rush. I picked up that behavior and I am incredibly ashamed of myself every day. I am controlling, bitching and whining all the time and it gets to the point where I don't even want to be that way or I know that I am being irrational or it genuinely in my head isnt even that big of a deal and i just need to breathe for like 30 more seconds and it feels like I physically cannot stop myself once I get into a mood. The only way I'm able to prevent lashing out is if I remove myself from the situation or put a pause in the conversation which is not always possible.
I have a boyfriend of 4 years and I love him to death and this is affecting our relationship. I don't want to be aggressive or controlling or borderline verbally abusive during our little arguments. I cannot continue to be such a deeply vengeful person in my soul and i truly believe that at my core i am both good and abhorrently evil. I can be so cruel to him and my friends over the dumbest shit, and even if I am able to cool down and recognize it afterwords and apologize I can tell the damage is already done. Sometimes I realize within literal minutes how irrational I was being, like I was in a blind rage. The apologies I say, even though genuine, is like covering a bullet wound with a bandaid. I dont want to feel wounding those i love. I dont understand why i get like this. I love these people dearly and they dont deserve even the slightest bit of it.
Edit: I am diagnosed with adhd, and ik my dad has depression that he expresses with anger issues. Thinking I may be bipolar of some sort but I don't know.

2024.05.20 02:01 sloman4000 Larger Verizon 5g UW or T Mobile UC with headphone jack

Hi all,
Ready to upgrade from a Samsung S9+ that I've had for the last 6 years. My wishlist (in order of importance) is:
  1. Headphone jack
  2. USA Verizon 5G UW or T Mobile UC compatible
  3. 6" screen minimum (eyes getting older so started enlarging the font)
  4. Good to great camera
  5. 256GB minimum or 128GB with expandable memory
  6. Somewhat waterproof, IP67 or IP68
1, 2, and 3 are basically must haves (especially headphone jack). Currently on Verizon and staying on Verizon is my preference but may consider switching to T Mobile if needed.
I think the Zenfone 10 might come close but might be smaller than what I'm looking for (5.9") and I think its not compatible with Verizon UW. Anything else out there that meets most on my list? Willing to pay premium pricing if it meets my needs. Thanks!

2024.05.20 01:59 wattsandwhiskey Quitting gym after a month?

So I recently joined a gym close to my home after moving and having a baby 9 months ago. I LOVED the vibe of my old gym. It was the one where you talked or had a dance party between sets and cheered for everyone’s PR. I left though because getting there from my new home is a crapshoot though with the way traffic works around my area. It could be a 30 minute drive or an hour drive one way.
I went to a drop-in at my current gym and ended up joining cause it was a super convenient location and thought “Hey, the coaches are pretty nice, maybe the people just take some time to warmup.” Well, that’s not the case. For a non-competitive gym, there’s a lot of folks that are just there to do the work and get out. The folks definitely aren’t friendly to newbies to CrossFit or the gym in general. It’s SOOOO hard to find people to work in with when we have to use the rigs because people literally avoid you. Folks leave the gym before everyone’s done with the WOD. In short, the sense of community is lacking.
So, for someone who’s been at the same gym for YEARS and has no idea what’s good and bad etiquette for leaving/going to new CrossFit gyms, is it bad to leave after a month? Should I give it a try a little longer?

Cultivating a list of "must-know" things for a successful life before 18 is a noble pursuit, but there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Success can look different for each person depending on their values, goals, and circumstances. However, there are some key areas and skills that can build a strong foundation for navigating life after 18:
Personal skills:
  1. Self-awareness: Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and passions.
  2. Resilience: Developing coping mechanisms and bouncing back from challenges.
  3. Critical thinking: Analyzing information, forming independent opinions, and problem-solving effectively.
  4. Effective communication: Expressing yourself clearly, actively listening, and building positive relationships.
  5. Time management: Organizing tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines effectively.
  6. Financial literacy: Budgeting, saving, understanding debt, and responsible credit use.
  7. Healthy habits: Maintaining physical and mental well-being through exercise, good diet, and quality sleep.
  8. Emotional intelligence: Recognizing and managing emotions in yourself and others.
  9. Adaptability and flexibility: Embracing change and learning new things throughout your life.
  10. Empathy and compassion: Understanding and caring about the feelings and experiences of others.
Practical skills:
  1. Basic cooking and home maintenance: Learning to cook simple meals and take care of your living space.
  2. First aid and CPR: Knowing how to respond to emergencies.
  3. Technology skills: Utilizing technology effectively for communication, research, and learning.
  4. Driving, car care, and basic bike maintenance: Understanding traffic rules and safe driving practices.
  5. Basic sewing and DIY skills: Fixing clothes, mending furniture, and doing simple repairs.
  6. Research and information literacy: Evaluating sources and finding reliable information.
  7. Public speaking and presenting: Being comfortable speaking in front of others.
  8. Networking and interpersonal skills: Building and maintaining relationships with peers and mentors.
  9. Time management and organizational skills: Planning and prioritizing effectively.
  10. Learning a new language: Expanding your communication abilities and cultural understanding.
Career & Life Planning:
  1. Career exploration and goal setting: Understanding your interests and setting realistic career goals.
  2. Resume writing and interview skills: Presenting yourself effectively for job opportunities.
  3. Researching and applying for colleges or vocational programs: Making informed decisions about your education.
  4. Understanding basic legal contracts and documents: Knowing your rights and responsibilities.
  5. Civic engagement and voting rights: Participating in your community and understanding the democratic process.
  6. Environmental awareness and sustainability: Learning to live responsibly and protect the planet.
  7. Digital citizenship and cyber safety: Protecting your online identity and using technology responsibly.
  8. Understanding personal rights and responsibilities: Knowing your legal rights and how to advocate for yourself.
  9. Building a support network: Identifying and relying on trusted friends, family, and mentors.
  10. Volunteering and community service: Giving back to your community and making a difference.
Remember:
Ultimately, helping young people develop these skills and cultivate a sense of agency will empower them to build their own definitions of success and navigate life after 18 with confidence and resilience.

2024.05.20 01:59 PerceptionFine5327 Should I keep on forgiving my sister?

A little back story before I begin the talking about the actual issue. I was 6 years old when I was fostered by this current family (not adopting - this means councils can intervene a bit more) there is my foster dad, mum and sister and then there's my real brother and I. We all had our issues when my brother and I were growing up. I am 17 now, and have since grown out of the stupid things that we used to do.
I had an ok childhood and I didn't see much of my sister. She only participated with my life and started wanting to make memories with me once I hit puberty. When I started my periods, the foster parents made it a big deal to start me on the pill as soon as they could. I had no issues with my periods - except holidays. But they didn't want me making an issue of going on holiday with them. So they lied to the nurse and got me on the pill., even getting me on evening primrose and starflower oil, claiming I had behavioral issues - bear in mind I was 13 when this was all happening and I wanted to have my say. And my way of getting my revenge was to deprive them of having the ability to do girly things with the second daughter who they'd never really treated as a daughter. I began to hate being a girl and hated being called a woman. So I started covering up and not allowing them to buy me stuff that might show me off or indicate that I'm a girl (I even wear jumpers in the summer).
My sister got me these books for my birthday or Christmas because they helped her through growing up into the woman she is now, and wanted me to understand what was going on with my body. I knew what was going on with my body, I just didn't care - so I started mistreating it. It got so bad that my brother actually thought I was a boy. And I told her I had no need for the books because I didn't want to know and I wouldn't be the sister she wanted me to be.
I know this sounded vain - but I genuinely thought this way and hated life itself and wouldn't talk about any of it. Not to anyone.
Onto the main story. My sister is 23 with Fragile X, and I am 17 in June. My foster sister (FS) came to college with me - I signed up before she did - I was brought round to having the idea of having her at college with me, though being pessimistic about it at first. I asked her not to tell anyone that I was a foster child because here people believe that all foster children are pure evil and should be kept away from. But on the very first day, we weren't sat there 10 minutes and she goes "yeah, she's my foster sister. My parents fostered her when she was very young" I was upset because she broke the promise she'd made me. But I ignored it because I told that it wasn't malicious and I was over reacting.
In December last year, she struck again. I had told my friends to tell me if they had an issue with me. This was because I had to deal with a psycho ex bf that almost had his way. My friends told my sister first, made them panic and told them to report me because I've done it before which is a lie, 4 weeks I had to endure of silence, insults in front of me and behind me, and door slamming. Worst of all, she told everyone, leaving no one out. So it wasnt just her and they're still being horrible and snubby towards me today. But I've grown to not care. They want to live in a world centered around her lies, then that's their own pain when they find out.

2024.05.20 01:56 JaneWilloughby My thoughts on the KEY puzzles

I’ve seen a good amount of discourse on some of the puzzles in KEY, but I wanted to share my thoughts on a few specific puzzles (good and bad) to see if other people shared my struggles/opinions.
  1. The locked book in the cafe - The graphic design for this clue is incredibly flawed in my opinion. Why would you have lines drawn from one point of the compass to a specific number if you didn’t want players to conclude that number is connected to that specific point. (Looking at you, 4). I spent probably two hours on this puzzle thinking I was supposed to count the number of pictures on the wall or plants in a specific corner…not cool.
  2. Coffee making - aside from the wonky mechanics that take some getting used to and the annoying flipping back and forth to different recipes, I didn’t mind this puzzle. I honestly kinda like the fact that the latte art is so frustrating because it has created a hilarious meme for the game that I think every ND game needs. I lowkey feel like HER made it infuriating on purpose for this reason.
  3. The gold artifact in the museum - I feel like this one might be more user error on my end, but I really did not understand that I was supposed to search for Rs around the town, nor did I think I was supposed to click the little button at the bottom to trigger the mechanism. I swear I had the right combination for so long but kept second guessing myself because I assumed it would open on its own.
  4. The trunk in the antique store - I just couldn’t find the little button on the side and it stumped me for a good hour, but I will say once I got it open, the gem sliding puzzle was very fun and a very unique puzzle that I quite enjoyed.
  5. The puppet show - Frustrating, but not enraging like some of the other puzzles. I think some more hints as to what props were needed could have helped a lot without making it too easy.
  6. The jewelry safe - I understand what they were trying to do, and I think it was a very good puzzle, but it definitely needed better guidance from the clues in the store. I don’t know how anyone could have solved this without the strategy guide or hints, but kudos to you if you did.
  7. The dean’s wall - I was so excited when I finally realized this was like the Bento puzzle in SAW and I knew exactly what I supposed to do, only to be incredibly disappointed when I had a correct solution about 3 different times, but it wasn’t the EXACT solution the game would accept. Very defeating.
  8. The alchemy puzzle - I was losing steam at this point so maybe I could have solved this on my own, but I struggled a lot with understanding what the book was trying to tell me and eventually looked up the solution after about 30 minutes. BUT this puzzle was pretty fun once I knew what I needed to do and I really appreciate what they were trying to do.
  9. The riddles in the alchemy book - I really liked the candle puzzle and the moon/knight puzzle, but once I got to the clock puzzle I just threw my hands up and said absolutely not and almost immediately looked up the solution lol
  10. The key weight puzzle - My only complaint about this is that I don’t think it makes logical sense in real life? If you don’t know how much one key weighs, you have no idea what the order would be, right? So if you have to get solution by random guessing until Nancy says “that’s right!” How does Nancy know?
Okay, I think I’ll leave it with those 10 for now, but would really love to know y’all’s thoughts as well!

2024.05.20 01:55 SnooKiwis3390 less than 10k subs but ALOT of VIEWS

My channel name is "Bloxy" - 9.05k Subs - Traffic cone Pfp
I post roblox videos of classical roblox or about making robux. My recent videos have been doing so good for my channel above 100k+ views but why is it that the subscribers don't correlate to that. I was wondering if its something to do with bots? My average watch time per video is about 1.3 minutes and from both my recent videos with over 100k+ views ive gotten a total of only 833 subs so I just find that weird.
also I started yt 3 months ago so im still new to this

2024.05.20 01:55 SomewhereOutside7120 The differences between female/ male experiences on BFF

Hi all,
My GF and I both use BFF and I thought to share some contrasts I found interesting in our experience using the app over the last 12 months or so. Just sharing for the sake of sharing if anyone was curious about what the other side looks like. I'm wondering if anyone has found some similarities in theirs?
The male's (my) experience:
  1. Less matches overall. I think men are just less open to the nature of meeting complete strangers in this way and the number of guys on here is much slimmer. In contrast to my GF's experience, I've found that the ghosting (lots of it) is usually in conversation stage. This is strange on it's own. Free flowing conversation will suddenly come to an absolute halt rather than a fizzle out over time. If a meetup in person does happen, it usually results in some sort of friendship even it's very casual.
  2. A lot of gay guys, usually looking for more than friendship. Self explanatory, I would say on average most dudes on the app are gay. Obviously no dramas with that, just personally not the dynamic I am looking for. However, most of them are not looking for friends and 2 dudes have straight up admitted to me they have a conversion fetish. I've made some friends from the app who have had some real horro funny stories.
  3. The artificial nature of the connection. Messaging and trying to find common interests is tough, especially for guys. It's a very un-natural way for guys to make connections, so it can be pretty difficult to keep a chat going. You have to be ready to step out of your comfort zone and be prepared to really "give it a go". Women are way better at forming early connections and bridging gaps in awkwardness in my opinion.
The female's (my GF's) experience:
  1. Many more matches but a LOT of ghosting. She has met many more people IRL than I have, by a substantial factor. However, she might hang out with a girl once or half a dozen times, then they disappear. I think the ghosting or fizzle out rate on the app is probably about the same but women do seem to get more matches.
  2. Lack of effort. Seems to be a common thread from what I have already seen on this subreddit. My GF has said that most girls expect her to do the heavy lifting with conversation. They often don't reciprocate interest or effort in messaging which can be very draining and defeats the purpose. It seems like many girls are on there to cure boredom, get more shiny notifications on their phones or have terrible anxiety and like the idea of it but can't get further than that.
General thoughts:
The app has recently brought out the "Plans" feature which I think is great. It's a great way to break the ice with activity based meetups or navigate the awkwardness of 1:1 meetups. However, it faces a similar problem meetup.com does, the flake out rate. Arguably it is worse. There is no RSVP function, so with events, people have to confirm or pull out in the chat. When someone does pull out in the chat, it is a domino effect and you can watch the entire attendance rate disappear in 20 minutes. It's quite remarkable actually. A mate I met on here calls it the BFF syndrome. I think it's an anxiety thing, and an RSVP function would help. That way people can see who's going from the start ("Are there any other girls going", "safety in numbers" etc). The plans feature could use a bit more serviceability overall.
I've noticed people looking for alternatives to BFF on the subreddit which is interesting. Obviously this is due to how slack people can be on here, the ghosting etc. This is a people problem rather than an issue with the platform. I think at lot people just like the idea of making friends than actually putting themselves out there and being uncomfortable. It is what it is I guess. It's a numbers game, and the more you put out, the more you get back. I guy that I originally found quite weird on a plans meetup turned out to be someone I look forward to seeing. He told me struggles with terrible social anxiety and forces himself to go to meetups, put more interest into other people and generally leave his comfort zone. It's something I have really come to respect and admire about him.
If you've made it this far, sorry for the essay. Keep the faith and good luck!

2024.05.20 01:55 Flying_Snails_Today2 Yuji is currently special grade and his the potential to surpass both Gojo and Sukuna

Yuji is special grade level and has potential to be the strongest
I am going over a series of bullet points then explain more in depth with what he may be able to learn to really convince you that much like how I covered Mahito before if Yuji reaches his full potential he’d be the strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Major point 1: He matched Yuta while Yuta had a stat buff in his domain in their fight with Sukuna. And no Yuji wasn't playing support either he helped restrain Sukuna and was throwing straight hands combining his attacks with Yuta. Mind you this was before he awakened and began landing black flashes.
Major point 2: Yuji has lasted longer than basically anyone in the Sukuna battle. Aside right after the Yuta fight where he had to take a minute to heal he’s had the longest time fighting Sukuna. More than Yuta, Choso, Maki, Kashimo. I get Sukuna has not been giving Yuji his full attention every second and we can’t put all the credit on Yuji but it speaks volumes for how strong Yuji is.
Major Point 3: It’s stated verbatim Yuji has the potential to rival Sukuna by Sukuna’s Femboy and Gojo thought Yuji had the potential to surpass him.
Major Point 4: Yuji is very new even still. At max he had a month to learn blood manipulation AND shrine. And he had to stack that with soul swapping with Yuta and Kusakabe while learning RCT and simple domain. Give him more time to properly use convergence, have him take time to mimic things Choso once did while he was alive, maybe he pulls a Choso and remembers the two brothers he once killed and take wing king for himself. And shrine you don’t have to get me started.
Major Point part 5: Yuji has had the most training of anyone in this series under the largest variety of masters. Choso, Gojo, Kusakabe and Yuta, Todo, Nanami. Who else gets this level of training. Yuji lives by their will and their teachings all of them are high level combatants. Yuji is kinda crazy.
Minor Point 1: Yuji has two really good CT’s . Blood manipulation he has rct to help with and shrine. He’s not the best with either of these but they definitely help rise his stocks.
Minor Point 2: He is chosen by the sparks of black and is alone the only character in JJK that has the ability to throw black flashes at will with the highest level of black flashes in a row and highest level of black flashes overall in history. This shows Yuji is already a master of a hight in jujutsu that obviously being Black Flashes. Gojo and Sukuna may have domain expansion but they can’t claim to be able to black flash like Itadori can.
Now then with major bullet points and minor ones at the way. Can Yuji REALLY surpass Gojo and Sukuna- yes. He’s been stated that he can surpass Gojo by Satoru himself and Sukuna’s femboy acknowledged that Yuji could be equal to Sukuna. He has been a jujutsu sorcerer for less than a full year and has reached the peak of what may be able to do with a black flash.
Yuji already has a crazy growth rate. Understanding how to use cursed energy very fast and went from getting bodies by a Finger Bearer before cursed energy to throwing hands evenly with Mahito in goodwill. Yuji has went from getting kinda bullied by Yuta holding back to actually shocking 15F Meguna with how strong he was.
He has grown insanely already and has awakened as a jujutsu sorcerer just like how Gojo once did. Even still Yuji lacks a domain expansion but what if he just… gets one there is endless possibilities for Yuji’s domain expansion so it could be extremely busted maybe even more so than Gojo or Sukuna. Maybe it’s open barrier as well. He’s also got banger H2H skills even more so than Kenjaku or Gojo who before were noted as JJK’s best in H2H.
Yuji is stronger than let’s be honest most of the verse with better feats than most characters even before his awakening. Like I said keeping up with Yuta inside his domain meaning he has a stat amp inside his own domain. This makes Yuji stronger than a majority of the verse physically. This alone strength wise puts him on the special grade level at least physically. Now this is before black flashes not being in the zone or anything. Give Yuji a few years, use him post his awakening, he can use black flash at will, has a shit load of experience and skill now, he has mastered blood manipulation and shrine, he now has an open barrier domain possibly, he has a simple domain, he has reverse cursed technique. Nobody could step to Yuji.
Sadly there isn’t more to say about this aside he could learn some more abilities maybe even unlock a maximum technique while he’s at it. He could unlock more info on the soul perhaps and train his soul so that way if he ever meets Mahito like people again we know for a fact he’s safe.
Sadly while there isn’t a lot to go into Yuji definitely would surpass Gojo and Sukuna if he got time to truly let himself grow he’s already the strongest character in physical outside them most likely.
Now to watch the world burn MWHAHAHAHAHA
