2024.05.19 06:18 sdotjo So much water left after purging Flair 58+

I love this machine. I've been able to dial in grind so I get delicious full bodied balanced espresso. And after I pour my shot I purge out extra water into a different glass, as recommended. I do this with usually 2 more pumps of the lever. I stop then because at this point no more water is coming out through the grinds.
But every time I remove the portafilter a ton of water comes out with it. I have to use a bowl to catch it. This happens when I purge right away, as well as when I let ir rest and cool down. It does not leak any water until I unlock the portafilter. Then it come pouring out.
So confused by what I'm doing wrong. The grind seems fine because the espresso is delicious. What am I doing wrong?

2024.05.19 06:14 BrownboBaggins Smell coming from basement bathroom

Smell coming from basement bathroom
Bought a new home (first time homeowner) that is a brand new construction. Had a few issues with dry taps in upstairs laundry room drain that were easily addressed by filling with water. Now the basement bathroom (finished basement) smells really bad. Smell is like stale/rancid food or sewage. Somewhat sulfurous as well. The smell is definitely strongest in the bathroom, also a fair bit of the scent now coming through the pictured wall with the plumbing into the adjacent room.
We tried cleaning out with vinegar and flushing traps for both tub and sink with plenty of hot water. No difference. Not sure what else it could be. Brand new home, waste pump seems to be working fine (pictured), and we hear the valve slam shut fairly often and know that should be working.
The construction plumber came out once already to check it out, cleaned the sink and tub drains and the smell dissipated for about an hour. It’s since been back with a vengeance. At a loss for what to check next.

2024.05.19 06:10 Individual_Meal_8264 Drop in supply after being sick! Am I doing this right??

Hi all! I’m currently 12 weeks PP and just recently came down with a cold. My supply noticeably dropped where I would pump every 2-3 hours (have that six hour break from midnight to six in the morning ;)) and would on average produce about 11oz per pump session. I haven’t changed my frequency but I have fallen victim to the low supply due to the recent cold, so now I’m barely making 9oz per pump session.
I know this may sound like a lot for some, but I actually like to oversupply due to me donating my extra milk to mothers who cannot keep up with their supply. I’ve been power pumping today in hopes of getting it back up and drinking a lot of water, so am I doing this right? What are your experiences in getting your supply back up after being sick?
If I can’t get my supply back up to where it used to be, I’m not really stressed about it as I can only do so much, you know? TIA!

2024.05.19 06:06 ndelage Bosch E15 Dishwasher Error - Water leak from back of unit, unclear why

I have a Bosch 800 Series dishwasher that just started giving me the E15 error code after about 7 years of problem-free use.
It took me several attempts with the bottom cabinet open, but I was able to locate the source of the leak. It seems to be unlike all the other examples posted online.
There was a piece of sound insulation at the back of the dishwasher. Once I removed that and ran a cycle I was able to see some water dripping from a styrofoam piece at the back of the dishwasher. Please take a look at these photos:
https://imgur.com/a/fZu34mf
I've pulled the dishwasher out of the cabinet, hoping to see a water connection, valve or pump back there, but there doesn't seem to be anything for me to replace/inspect.
I'm worried the issue might be the seals between the back and bottom wall (inside of the dishwasher). Those might be replaceable, but I'm not sure how I'd disassemble the cabinet.
Is anyone familiar with water leaking at the back right of a similar Bosch dishwasher?

I need your input!
So this is my project, it’s going to be my track car. It has a 427 cobra 7liter (not the side oiler) and i was just curious if i should keep the regular belt driven water pump or put an electric one, and yes i know someone’s gonna comment on the small carb and air filter(i’m in the works of upgrading that as we speak) so let me know what you think

2024.05.19 05:34 No_Astronaut_8971 Is replacing the timing belt tensioner necessary

I already know the answer to this question but I just don't want to feel like I'm wasting money while money is currently tight.
I'm replacing the timing belt/water pump on my Chrysler 300 2007 3.5 liter. Is replacing the timing belt tensioner and tensioner pully really necessary? If possible I'd love to save the 60ish dollars.

2024.05.19 05:25 Longjumping_Exam_760 Water Leak - Looking for Advice

Recently moved into a home with a jetted tub in the second floor master bath, which the previous owners left in a disgusting state. I have been trying to clean it over the last few weeks by running the jets with a cleaning solution (Oh Yuk) for 15 minutes at a time per the instructions. Today, while running the jets and cooking downstairs, suddenly water started pouring through the ceiling lights. I ran upstairs to find the jets still running, but the tub was now half empty even though the drain was still blocked.
Long story short, it seems like a pipe in the jets probably broke, and emptied half of a soaking sized bathtub into my ceiling. Everything is now contained, the tub is empty and the dripping from the ceiling has mostly stopped.
We just got off the phone with our homeowners insurance who says that we cannot have an adjustor out until Monday (today is Saturday), and that if we have anyone come prior to that we will be risking it being reimbursable, and either way we cannot start any repairs until after an adjustor has been out.
Has anyone had any experiences like this, is there any issue with waiting until Monday to have someone look at it? What type of diagnostics are used to determine the extent/estimate for the damage?

2024.05.19 05:21 Zestyclose_Hat_3272 Need help figuring out what i should go for?

I got a Vw CC 2010 2.0t earlier this year which was sat for 6months with 165k km on the clock. I asked why owner said he got a truck and barely drove it. Spent 7k buying the car. Then 8k fixing it. The owner failed to mention the engine was in such a bad state it was oil starved even though first thing i did was get an oil change and do fluids. The engine was already destroyed and timing chain was about to go but you can’t tell in a 2.0t until its bad bad. Got a new engine for 5k new aluminium water pump, new timing chain and driving belt, new intake manifold gasket, new exhaust manifold gasket, new crankshaft and balance shaft, new oil pump chain, new battery and bulbs throughout. Engines even from a 2016 tiguan with a 1 year warranty.
My issue is i have 0 messages on the car that i put on marketplace for 15k, i’ve messaged people for trades but no one’s enthusiastic. I don’t know if i should take it to a dealership and if i will get a fair deal. Question is should i lower the price and see what happens, trade down, or take it in to a dealer?

2024.05.19 05:09 Recognition-Last Water Pump Wobble

Water Pump Wobble
I think I narrowed down the rattling noise to my water pump’s bearings going out, given the amount it can wobble side to side. Is this a lot or not too alarming for an immediate replacement and drive a different vehicle?
any good recommendations for a replacement pump under $100?

2024.05.19 05:08 aert4w5g243t3g243 Shorten length of float switch on sewage pump - can you go too far?????

This is more or less what my sewage pump looks like: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71ACm4BohjL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
The length on the line on my float switch seemed a little long, and was letting the water get a bit higher than I wanted before kicking on.
I unclamped and took a little slack out. Put it back in and tested and the water level kicked on at more or less the same time as last time.
Im wondering if its because the cord is thick and stiff and isnt bending enough to kick it on before.
How do I determine the correct length of cord, and can you make it too short (like I fear I did).
Hoping maybe I can bend the cord and loosen it up a bit instead of having to take it out of the shit pit again.
Thanks.

2024.05.19 04:59 PotentialBike9263 2008 Miata NC - Bypass Immobilizer?

I bought a parts car (frame damage) for the suspension to use in another build. Previous owner said it ran before but lost all the keys except what I believe is the "emergency key" which looks like a "dumb" key with no chip in it. This key lets you turn the ignition but nothing happens. Stereo turns on, headlights turn on, I can hear relays switching under the hood and maybe the water pump running? But nothing else, not even the gauges turn on. Would be fun to use this engine in another vehicle at some point, so is it possible to get it running without needing the dealer to make me a new key? I can't exactly drive this anywhere, and I only have a bill of sale. Not opposed to completely replacing the wiring harness as I will be pulling the engine anyway.

2024.05.19 04:51 Valuable_Charge_8367 My Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2015 engine broke.

My Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2015 engine broke.
Greetings, dear friends,
In March 2023, I acquired a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport from a private dealer, marking me as its third owner. The dealer provided a six-month warranty, during which the car performed flawlessly. However, during a trip from Houston to Dallas on May 4, 2024, we observed smoke emanating from the vehicle. We rushed to a nearby mechanic, we discovered coolant oil leakage and the check engine light illuminated. The mechanic indicated that the powertrain warranty, covering the engine for ten years from purchase or up to 100,000 miles, offered a glimmer of hope, given our car's mileage of 70,632 and its age of only nine years.
Immediately, we scheduled an appointment with a nearby Hyundai dealership, securing a slot for the following week. After towing the car from Firestone to the Hyundai dealership, we submitted it for inspection. Three days later, the dealership informed us of the need to replace the entire engine, along with coolant and fluid changes, totaling $10,451. Additionally, they clarified that as the third owner, warranty coverage would not apply, necessitating full payment of the expenses.
We're unable to afford that much; we require suggestions. Are there any alternatives we can explore?

2024.05.19 04:46 SoulSearcher895 HELP - Basement flooding issues. No idea which expert to listen to. Tight budget. Super stressed.

My fiancé and I bought our first house last year — yay! It was built in 1951 and was sold to us with a “finished basement” and for a very short period of time after purchasing, it was. Then the water pooling started. It started slow, then soon after whenever it rained water would seep under the walls into puddles. It’s reached a point now where it would be unsafe to not get this issue under control.
We have spoken to a number of waterproofing companies and professional landscape companies, but both tell us their way is best and there is no comparable stories online that help us make this decision.
From what we’ve been told by these companies, it looks as though our house may not have been built with the basement originally. It potentially was built with a crawl space and turned into a garage then a basement. We took down some drywall and found about 3 feet of space on 2 sides with about 3-4 feet of dirt inside. We also found a basement wall with bowing and large cracks but more on that later. Most of all we found a ton of evidence of mold and water saturation along foot boards, studs, cement blocks etc. We are looking into legal options as we have had almost everyone who came to give an estimate tell us they think the previous owner was aware of the issue and was covering it up by “finishing” the basement with drywall and paint to hide cracked walls, mold, and water damage.
We just need help trying to decide what to do… My fiancé and I don’t really have any family to help so we had to clean out our whole 401k with a hardship withdrawal. We don’t want to pick the wrong thing and then be broke and still have this issue. Not to mention a few weeks ago on my fiancés birthday weekend, we had a septic issue that already costed us $8,000. (Worst birthday gift ever he said).
The exterior grading company is quoting us $12,000 to: - Remove bushes, concrete pad, concrete side walk. - Reshape, contour, raise elevation and slope away from home on 4 all sides, pipes to street s - Install 24 inch catch basin - Seed fertilizer and straw area rework. They claim it will fix the problem and we will be as good as new because water will no longer be getting into the basement.
On the interior side, we have had several quotes ranging anywhere from $16,000 - $25,000. - $18,000 for sump pump, full 4 wall interior drain channel, wall barrier and discharge line. This doesn’t fix the cracking foundation wall - $25,000 fix cracked wall and 360 all the above - $16,000 fix cracked wall and just add a sump pump with a small channel on just one wall. - $8,000 only fix crack wall, no waterproofing.
Here’s the kicker. That last 16k estimate came with a diagram the guy made to explain why the other guys exterior method won’t work and it would not fix our problem. Basically, the exterior grading can’t go deeper than the footer so the exterior grading will not stop intrusion below the basement slab or inner block wall and that it would help but not fix the issue. He said he’s not trying to make a sale but if I do go with the other guy to get in writing that “their system will completely solve my water intrusion issue and that exterior work will not compromise the already failing wall in the basement”.
At this point absolutely no idea what to do. We have to fix the cracked wall. We already have to spend another $5,000 fixing the water damage, mold, moisture and humidity issue but are lost on what to do about waterproofing.
What would you do? This set back has been a financial nightmare significantly pushing back plans for a wedding and children.
TLDR: Company A) Exterior grading/excavating/shaping around house perimeter, catch basin. “Keep water from getting inside instead of just guiding it out when it’s already inside” for 12k VS Company B) Interior sump pump, channel, discharge, wall fix, “Actually solve the problem by collecting water from all areas including under concrete slab and pump out for 16k. No idead what to do. 401k hardship withdrawal, tight budget. Super stressed. What would you do?

Tankless Hot Water Heater with Solar Pump
I’ve searched some old threads and found some info on this but I’d like some advice for my specific system.
My husband and I are moving off grid. We are planning on using rain catchment for all our water, catching from our tiny shed house roof and storing in a 1000 gallon tank in the ground. Toilet will run off grey water to a vermi-composting tank. We’d like to run a propane tankless hot water heater to a shower head and 1 or 2 sinks for dishes and shower.
  1. Should I run a solar pump straight from the storage tank to the tankless heater or first to a pressure tank? Will I have to turn it on every time I want water or are there automatic pumps?
  2. Most small propane tankless hot water heaters look like they have to be installed outside, are there smaller systems for inside? Do you need to turn them on or are they automatic?
  3. Will the pump be able to run cold water to cold taps and to the heater simultaneously? Or would a pressure tank do this better?
  4. General water set up and heater advice is welcome.
I’ve attached an inspiration picture of what I imagine a low profile set up would look like, with a small heater that goes to both a shower and sink. No idea if it’s a good idea 😂

2024.05.19 04:34 JuliaX1984 Do all pumps do this, or do we have an incompetent company?

We live in a rowhouse at the end of a row, so it shares 1 wall with an adjacent (abandoned) house. There are 3 exterior walls: front, back, and side (the side wall borders the sidewalk, so no room to install a compressor there). We had heat pumps installed in the 3 rooms on the 2nd floor 2 years ago shortly after we moved in. The compressor is on the back deck. My room and the tiny spare room face the backyard, so those rooms' pumps are mounted on exterior walls and work fine.
However, the other big bedroom faces the front of the house, so they mounted the unit there to an interior wall. According to the company that installed it, because it's mounted to an interior wall, this unit has a "pump" inside that's only supposed to pump when it fills with water while the cooling function is being used. However, they've had to replace this pump 3 times so far because they inevitably start buzzing louder and LOUDER, and at regular intervals, even when the cooling function isn't being used. It happened this winter, when the cooling function obviously wasn't being used and hadn't been used for months. Yet this pump that had no water inside to pump turned on at consistent intervals, even when we left the unit off, and got louder and louder before they were able to come replace it again, to the point where it sounded as loud as jet engine and could be heard in literally every room of the house and I had to clal and beg someone to come disconnect it until the replacement part came in.
So they just replaced this "pump" (that's what they call it -- I mean this part, not the heat pump itself) 2 or 3 months ago, and tonight, I heard it buzzing again. Not to jet engine levels yet, though I'm sure it will if they can't replace it soon enough.
My question is:

2024.05.19 04:29 Blanshee Nuclear Power Plant Operator/Auxiliary Operator

Hello Everyone, new to this sub here. I’ve been researching the path to a Nuclear Career and I’m looking for some advice. I’m looking to get into a nuclear plant as an entry level operator. I did not finish college, I know that some companies want the 2 year AAS Power Plant Tech Degree, some sort of certificate, regular degree/nuke school. But I have also read it’s possible to get in without those things as long as you can pass the POSS tests. I’m thinking about sending my resume out to multiple companies just to give it a shot. I’m willing to move practically anywhere in the US as well. I currently work for the IBEW Union in Southern California. I do have some experience with water pumps, gauges, chemicals, boiler from a previous job, but that’s about it besides for my electrical certs with the Union. I’m open to going back to school to get the AAS but if I could get in without spending that money it would be cool. I also found a Nuclear Power Plant Operations 1 year class where you get a certificate but not a degree from Cal State Fullerton. Any advice or leads would be great, thanks take care

Tick noise 2012 Acura TL SHAWD
Hey there, I’ve started noticing this ticking noise on my 2012 TL 3.7. Car has roughly around 209km timing belt and water pump were done at about 180km before I bought it. I’m just wondering what the noise could be?

2024.05.19 04:01 No_Astronaut_8971 Is replacing the timing belt tensioner necessary
