One Year's Worth of Unsolicited St Pete Restaurant / Bar Reviews
2024.05.11 02:20 megamunch One Year's Worth of Unsolicited St Pete Restaurant / Bar Reviews
Let's get it all out of the way up front. I know, no one asked. No one cares. What kind of A hole can afford to eat at all these places. Yada yada.
The fact is the culinary scene is changing by the month here in St Pete. I view this as a good thing. After reading the 100th question asking where to eat and drink around town I thought I would document some places I've been to around St Pete for those who are interested. I enjoy spending my finite disposable income and leisure time exploring local eats & drinks with good company.
I am in no way qualified to be providing these unsolicited opinions. My opinions are probably all over the place and inconsistent - some will speak to value and others quality. These are in no particular order. There are hardly any chains on this list - I would much rather support local spots. Ready? Let's go.
Three Birds Tavern: Love the vibe of the outside patio. They even have a British telephone booth out there. Solid tavern / bar food. The lamb burger is fantastic. Shepherd's pie is not bad. Servers are so nice and bubbly. Worth it for lunch or brunch. Martini deals on Thursdays (I think they're $5).
Pin on Cafe: My go to lunch spot. Unfortunately they are moving down central a mile but they have fantastic pad Thai and a great value lunch menu, where you can build your own meal. Probably eaten here 30 times. Very friendly staff.
Bodega: If you're into Cuban sammies (don't hurt me but they're not my favorite) then this is the place. I'm told they're fairly authentic. Good speakeasy in the back. More on that below.
Bohemios: New Spanish tapas restaurant off central. Don't let the lingering BurgerFi sign fool you - the food here is exceptional. A tad expensive but good quality. They have been slow since opening but the chef & servers are super nice and love chatting to patrons. The chef is an especially awesome dude and a fantastic cook. Got the lobster cargo, empanadas, flank steak, meatballs, and lamb lollipops. All bangin'.
Frog Pond: Great family spot for breakfast or lunch. No frills / nothing fancy, just a good familial vibe and frogs painted on the walls. Got the BLT and pancakes. Both yummy.
Lure: Pretty cool place, but I still can't figure out what their "thing" is. Is it a sports bar? Billiard Hall? Sushi bar? Apparently it's all three. Surprisingly solid food (including the sushi), good music, fun place to hang out with a big group of friends before a show at the Floridian. Great happy hour and food specials.
Lemongrass: Solid Thai food. Went here for a date, and while that didn't go super well the food was again solid. Not mind blowing. But solid. Did I mention it was solid?
Zaytoon Grill: I love Mediterranean food. I had a kefta kabob, hummus, rice, salad. I admittedly need to try it again. It was decent, I've had much better kabob. But again, want to give it another try. I ordered takeout so can't comment on the place itself but I hear the staff are great.
EngineNo9: I was told this was the "best burger in town". This is false. Well, maybe for the money it is. After having just about every burger on the menu, I can say without a doubt the best burger in town is in fact Left Bank Bistro's Burger. My gawd. I think they sprinkle crack in the brie they put on top. Anyway, this is engine9. If my expectations were lower initially I think I would recommend it as a value play. Good place to watch sports. Jambalaya is meh. Sriracha wings are delicious though. So are the tots.
Tony's Pizza: A very solid pizza place always slinging deals on door dash. They have nice wide, thin slices, similar to NY style.
Gateway Subs: really good subs and creative too. For instance, you can get crushed Doritos on your sammy.
Brooklyn South: Middle of the road sandwiches for the price.
Mangosteen: I've only gotten takeout and thought their sushi was decent. This place and Lure seemed similar in their food offerings. When I walk by the vibe looks pretty cool. They do BOGO deals on door dash too.
Maple Street Biscuit Co: The hangover cure you've been looking for. Great biscuits & gravy. They have this fried chicken biscuit with a pepper jelly type thing and it's... Hang on I need a minute... Utterly delicious. Instead of giving them your name when you order, they ask you a thought provoking question, which is kind of fun (e.g. who in all of history would you want to meet?).
11 Chicks: Great Venezuelan food. Get an arepa and some of those to die for deep fried cheese things. Don't sleep on the 11 Chicks bowl. A little pricey for chicken and rice but the quality is chef's kiss.
Fresh Kitchen: Decently healthy, solid food. Like a healthy chipotle. You're in and out of there fast. If you need a somewhat healthy $12 bowl go here. Also everyone who eats there is somehow a fitness model and/or gorgeous.
Pacific Counter: Also a decently healthy, solid fast casual place serving poke bowls. Staff is super nice. Bring your dog - they will spoil with salmon skin treats.
Hotdog Stand (8th & Central): I haven't caught her name, but she slings awesome street hotdogs and puts a lot of love into the fixings on top. Bring up the TB Lightning or bring your dog and you will be her favorite.
Pia's: I know, it's in Gulfport. Fantastic Italian food. Sit out on the patio if you can - there is a good red/white checkered tablecloth vibe out there. Saw someone get engaged there. It's that kind of place, immersive, familial, and delicious. The shank and lasagna were heavenly.
Paul's Landing: Worth it to check out the view of the pier and pool while at the Vinoy. Grab a drink and some very good American food here with a date, or for brunch.
Sauvignon Wine Locker: Pasta - yes. Wine - fuck yes. Half off bottle deals on Sunday I believe. Definitely a nicer place and a draw for the rich old snowbirds. I hear some local billionaires frequent the place. Kind of a cool entrance, walking down a (safe) alley before climbing the stairs to get to it.
Fortu: Clubby, upscale asian fusion spot. Expensive but also very good. The wagyu potstickers are great. Go here for date night and pay way too much for cool drinks and very good Asian food. But your body will be swaying from the music and sexy vibe.
Social Roost: Fun spot, feels kind of like you're walking into a Great Gatsby party. Creative and delicious dishes and the price is about right. It's loud and social and a high energy place so go with friends or a date on a Friday or Saturday.
Datz: Very solid bar / American / brunch food. I got a fried chicken salad and it was really good. I know there's more to try and I will do so.
Ford's Garage: Great burgers. If you're a car person, it's definitely worth checking out. Even the bathroom has a tire for a sink.
La V: Highly recommend this place. Vietnamese, French fusion. Good Pho, banh mi, and rolls. Get the beef bourgingon- like dish and soak up the broth with a toasty french baguette. Baby, you've got a stew goin'.
Calida: super small but absolutely delicious spot. A husband and wife cook and run the place, and they only have one other server who is equally awesome. They make you feel like family and live to serve people good food. Menu changes often based on ingredients that are in season. Had the short rib, Icelandic fish dish (forget the name), and duck panang. My gawd was it yummy. Great wine list too. Oh, they're only open three nights a week so make a rezzy in advance.
Bavaros: Pretty good pasta, a little pricey for the portion. Was a fan of Bolognese and penne vodka. Fun outdoor vibe with the sidewalk seating. Sometimes I'll bring carry out to cellarmasters.
Pizza Box: super tiny pizza spot but REALLY good meatballs and quality pizza made in a legit pizza oven. Get it with hot honey and a glass of wine.
Left Bank: Lit'rlly the best burger in town. The prices are exhorbinant for what you get, but the quality is hard to beat. $40 for beef bourgingon pissed me off, but again the food is really good. Go here for brunch and sip French rosé, get a croque madam, or take a date here for steak frites.
Il Ritorno: Upscale Italian. For the price, it was decent. Compared to olive garden it's excellent. Liked Bonu better. Pretty upscale spot for a date night. For the money, I think there are better spots. Please don't hurt me.
Bonu: Very refreshing vibe, open and airy and filled with cool lights and plants. Really good menu - lobster ravioli and penne vodka were great. Try some of their more creative dishes as well, you won't be disappointed.
Wild Child: I only went once for a date and I think we walked in after a fryer fire or something. Seriously, when we walked in we were assaulted with an intense funnel cake-like fryer smell and thin layer of smoke. Food was okay, I can't even remember what we got. I will agree to go back and try it again since I keep hearing good things and I'm pretty sure this was a one off experience. The date went well though. Not that you care.
Cassis: Solid French bistro with a restaurant and a quick eats side to it serving ice cream, chocolate, and pizza. Pretty banging.
Bella Brava: Great pizza! Was surprised how good since its in a touristy spot on Beach drive. Good pasta too. I think they have a good deal on Tuesdays or something.
Allelo: Upscale and very high quality Mediterranean food and wine list. Loved this place. Get the octopus, lamb Bolognese, and/or rabbit & glass of red and you won't be sorry.
Shrimp Store: Very good local, fresh seafood + rice, beans type place. Stop by for lunch and try the grouper. Fish & chips and hush puppies are great. Good prices too. Definitely good value.
Teak (Pier restaurant): I know the pier is touristy. But it's also gorgeous. The view of the water from the restaurant is unmatched. You can see Tampa Bay and st Pete skylines really well, watch the sailboats, and small planes fly by. The food is surprisingly good here. It's worth checking out even if you're a local.
Doc Ford's: I'd call this place upscale beach shack food. It's good quality, prices are slightly high as it is a more touristy spot on the pier. Good live music and good vibes.
Trophy Fish: I really enjoyed how fun and unique this place is. It's all outside but kind of covered, and really fun looking at night with all the lights and plants. Big bar you can sit around and you order seafood out of the truck/shack behind it. Have to say it was pretty expensive for what it was but definitely high quality.
The Studio Public House: Come here to see some great British rock and euro futbol memorabilia. Fish and chips are great, as is the shepherds pie.
Hook's on 9th: Sushi & Thai food with a great sushi menu. Great quality for not much money. $10 sushi and/or dishes for lunch. Get some takeout, try the beef bulgogi and a couple rolls. You won't be sorry.
Rumfish Grill (St Pete Beach): they have an awesome floor to ceiling aquarium right in the dining room. It's mesmerizing and a little bizarre watching the (huge) fish swim around while eating their cousin. Good seafood. Worth a visit.
Urban Stillhouse: Very upscale dining and I have to say the quality and experience were well worth the money. The building itself is unimpressive from the outside, yet when you walk in you are transported to the fanciest mountain / lodge / chalet type vibe you can think of. Multi level restaurant serving up great lamb, steak, and sides. Bonus points if you stop by Lolita's before.
Mazarros: A St Pete staple, and very crowded. But really good sandwiches made there and high quality Italian grocery options. Awesome wine room too - sometimes they do tastings. They do cooking classes here but haven't tried them yet. Worth checking out once, there's no place quite like it.
Lolita's: such a cool building they've moved in to, right next to the bike trail. Very artsy vibe since they share the space with Morean. Very creative dishes and cocktails, gorgeous patio on which to enjoy them.
Paradise Grill (pass-a-grille): the beach shack place right on the beach. I don't know how you can beat their grouper sammy, ice cold iced tea, and that beach view steps away from the water.
Ted Peter's: smoked fish isn't my favorite I admit, but even I liked it. I had some of their non-smoked fish and it was banging. Ask to go see where the smoking is done next door, it's a unique way they cook fish there. Been around for 80+ years.
Poppos : I live nearby and have been here a few times. Was described to me as a "local chipotle". I really wanted to like it. It's average. The portions are small for what you pay for. Their bowls, like literally the paper bowl itself, has a huge indent and is raised from the bottom so it fits a lot less food than you'd think. Staff was super kind though.
Drinks/Bar Only:
Intermezzo: This is the date night spot. Lots of love put into each drink. Nice jazz music. Visiting during Christmas is a must as they deck the place out. They're moving right nearby in the coming months.
Cellarmasters: My favorite watering hole in town. By now you know I enjoy wine. This place isn't your typical wine bar - it's divey, hipster, and awesome. Bring a sub or takeout here and listen to the incredibly cool wine staff pick and pour you the perfect glass. They have a great selection of old world for $20-40 a bottle.
No Vacancy: Outdoor Clubby place, usually a good spot for a DJ and to rip shots / crash bachelor or bachelorette parties.
Steve's: cash only no frills/old school bar. Go grab a bud light in a bottle and roll with the sticky floors. A staple on central ave that's been there forever.
Tryst: Decent bar. Had a boat load of tequila there.
The Landing: Pre or post Jannus show it's a must to continue your high octane weekend night with music and dancing. Bathroom lines get real long so wear a diaper or get in line early. Or try to bribe others in line with a fiver.
Bar Chica: If you like craft cocktails, it's a must visit. Classy bar slinging really cool drinks. You walk thru Bodega to get to it.
Lost and Found: Great spot for a drink and live music. Food truck and big backyard to enjoy a drink under the stars. They were playing Terminator 2 on the TV there which shows you how cool the place is.
Enigma: I typically see this suggested (as a joke) to out of towners asking for a low-key place to have a drink. Well, joke's on them. Enigma is so fun. It is a gay bar, but assuming you're progressive enough to deal with that the drinks, music, dancing, and people are fantastic.
It's all culminated in this. My favorite restaurant in town. Bin6South! ... You will spend $100+ and still walk out hungry. It is not a value play. It is a quality play. There are only 6 barstools and one table fitting 6 people. Reservations are not easy to come by. This place is the product of a retired couple who wanted to make awesome food, pour good wine, and have a communal feel for locals. It's not for everyone. But if you like a chef's table vibe, try it. You can shoot the shit with the chef, owner, and sommelier while they serve you amazing food you've never tried and pour you delicious wine. Their venison and pork shoulder are banging. They also have lots of fun culinary and wine events so check that out.
If you like coffee, the following places are a must try for either the quality of their espresso, local art, and/or vibe:
The Shop & Coffee House
Black crow
Intermezzo
Book & Bottle
Kawha
Bad mother
Fray's donut house for donuts and breakfast sammies too
Bonus Tampa restaurants:
Oxford Exchange: A Harry Potter feeling to it with good brunch food. It has a library quality to it, you feel like British royalty eating here. Great place for a cheeky day glass of rosé or bubbly. Take a walk along the river walk before or after.
Berns: A must try. It's been there for 80+ years. The building itself has such cool decorations and pictures on the walls, and each room has a different theme. While their steak is just okay, for the price comes with French onion soup and onion straws. The best part of Bern's is their wine list. My gawd. They have over 500,000 bottles on site and more in their other building / cellar. I think it's the largest restaurant owned wine collection in the world. Because there are so many bottles, they often can't keep up with pricing for all of them. We got three different bottles from 1975 - 1987 for under $50 each. Their dessert room, cellar tour, and kitchen tours are a must. Check out my post history as I have something in there from the wine subreddit.
Oh and not in Tampa but best Chinese food around is Zom Hee in Seminole. Get their NY strip dish. It's banging. Cool old school spot.
Places I want to try: Rococo, Beau & Mo's, El Cap, Cappy's, Harvey's, Sammy's, Hookin' Ain't Easy, The Chattaway, Brick & Mortar, naked farmer, violet stone, Jack's London Grille, Bascoms, food trucks (Go Stuff Yourself), Nueva Cantina's fundido burger, eat art love, German Knodle, Ceviche, The Burg, Sara's Kebab House, Baba / Barbouni
Agree? Disagree? Any other places you'd add to the list? I will likely keep editing this post as other places pop in my mind that I've forgotten, and/or I eat somewhere new. Cheers.

2024.05.10 04:38 Von_und_zu_ JAN MOIR: What do Charles and William think about the Spencers' very public embrace of Harry which could cast them in cold and unflattering light?
Witty prose from Jan.
Ruddy of face, snowy of hair and thick of calf, the elder Spencers entered the cathedral like a shire farmer and his clan visiting a county fair to give the sugar beets a good old squeeze. \**
And do you know what? I'm so very glad they were there for him. It's too sad to think of Harry flying over here, fretfully offsetting his carbon footprint, clutching his little box of medals, thrumming his fingers on his temples, his anxiety levels rising as the dog-bowl threat and the road less travelled rise up to meet him yet again. \**
The Spencers don't have to forgive the Sussexes or accommodate their peeved intransigence or just seethe and suck it up. For Prince Harry has no beef with his Uncle Charles, nor has he ever hoisted his sauceboat of hot sulk to pour the usual grievance gravy over lovely Aunt Jane. He hasn't accused either of them, or anyone in their immediate family, of being racists, bullies, sneaks, liars and downright stinking rotters. He hasn't trashed them or betrayed them in books, podcasts or on television interviews watched by millions around the world. He hasn't caused reputational damage to their family, like he has elsewhere, ahem. He even thanked Earl Spencer and Lady Jane in the acknowledgments section of his autobiography, Spare — an honour accorded to absolutely no one in his inner blood circle. So their support was nice, and so was the small, cheering crowd of blimps who turned up for him, too. Not everyone hates Prince Harry for smearing his family — and by extension the entire country — as a racist backwater full of repressive thickos unable to see the bigger picture or wake up and smell the roses, like him and his sainted wife. Speaking of which, such a shame that the Duchess of Sussex was not at Harry's side this week, patting him like a puppy as per, holding his hand, sharing in the dim glow of this rare show of public popularity. Certainly, it is not like Meghan to miss a full on, super-swank opportunity like this; she's usually all over Invictus ceremonies like a regimental mascot on parade. It brings out her inner drum majorette, it gives her a sham regal sheen — so why the unexplained absence? Spencers or no Spencers, the Duchess hasn't got a proper excuse for avoiding the UK this week and the truth is that she doesn't even need one any more. The cavalry has been and gone, the dust has settled and we all know where we stand. Next stop, Nigeria. And I simply cannot wait for that. https://archive.ph/Eu9fC https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-13401133/JAN-MOIR-Charles-William-think-Spencers-public-embrace-Harry-cast-cold-unflattering-light.html submitted by

2024.04.28 19:45 Lord_Long_Rod Another Horrifying Hunter Biden Encounter!
Hunter called me at 8:30pm on a Thursday night. I worked for him as an IT guy for a while. Essentially, I was on payroll to delete all the illegal shit on his computer hard drives after Hunter used them. I also got him blow. It was a full time job.
So on that night I was already in the middle of wiping Hunter’s laptop for the day. It was the standard bullshit: dark web hooker and blow merchants, Porn Hub, sex toys, international communications with parties in China, Ukraine, and Romania, as well as with an unknown party called “Sweet Meat Pete”; assorted body parts, a letter he wrote to “J. Epstein”, and snuff films he downloaded. God help him if he ever took his laptop to anyone else. But, you know, he’s not THAT stupid.
So I get the call from Hunter on my cell phone. He is agitated and said he needed my help immediately. Apparently, he had gotten locked out of his “Barely Legal Thai Sluts” account mid jack-off and need my help. I shuddered at the thought of having to see Hunter’s dick again. But that just goes with working for Hunter Biden.
I could tell from Hunter’s voice that he was coked out of his mind. I hurried over to his place before he totally freaks out and kills someone again. It was a real emergency for him too, apparently, as he texted my phone 53 times during my 20 minute drive to his apartment.
The door to his flat was wide open when I arrived. I peeked inside, with much trepidation. There was Hunter, bare-assed naked on his couch and sticking a syringe needle into his erect penis. Out of my innate respect for humanity, I cry out, “Hunter!! What the hell are you DOING?!?!”
He looked up and at me, saying “Oh, hey buddy!!! What are you doing here? Ha ha!!” I asked him what he was doing. He told me he was shooting “Heaven” into his dick. I said, “Hunter, dude… Those stories are not real, man. You don’t get a better high doing that! You just get a sore dick!” Hunter asked, “what stories you talking about?!?”
Then things got worse. Hunter said, “Hey, man. Come over here and hold my dick still while I shoot it up. It keeps jumping around on me.” I didn’t want to do it, but the “Big Guy” was paying me really well to look after Hunter. I walked over to him on the couch with a sigh.
Hunter was jibber jabbering a mile a second. It sounded like he was having 2 separate and ongoing conversations going on simultaneously with two imaginary people. Then seamlessly he would transition to me. “Come on, man! Get a hold of that thing. I need to shoot up!!”, he said.
I looked at his throbbing member. It was disturbing, and not just for the obvious reason. It was pulsating and throbbing way too enthusiastically. It was spastically flopping around. I told Hunter that I thought I should call 911 and get him some medical attention. He replied, “Don’t be a pussy! Just grab that sucker and hold it still. Come on, man!!”
“Oh God”, I sighed. But I did as requested. I grabbed the thing firmly. I got to tell you, it was hard to hold that thing. I could not hold it still, but I managed to slow it down enough for Hunter to inject it. I suspect that Hunter already had enough blow in him to kill an elephant. I had never seen anything like this.
When Hunter extracted the needle from his Johnson, an intense stream of blood shot out from the incision opening. It shot all the way across the room and splattered onto a painting of a bowl of fruit that Hunter had painted. But the thing is, the stream did not stop! It kept draining his blood. It was a gushing crimson fountain.
I said, “Holy shit, Hunter!! We need to get you to the hospital!!” He responded calmly, “Nah. Just wrap your hands around it and hold it tight. It’s ok.” I was like “WHAT?!?” I noticed that he had a burning cigarette hanging from his blue lips. I had not even noticed that he lit one up.
Disturbingly, Hunter started losing consciousness. I was really worried now. There is no way he should be passing out after mainlining so much cocaine. “Hunter!! Wake up!!! You’re dying, man!! Don’t go to sleep, man!!!!! STAY AWAKE!!!!” I knew that if Hunter died in my hands the gravy train would end!!
Suddenly, Hunter’s eyes opened. He looked at me and said, “Dude, I just shot some H. Hold on tight. My life is in your hands now.” I was horrified. I pleaded with him to stay awake, but he did not.
I stayed all throughout the night, using my hands to keep pressure applied to Hunter’s penis so he would not bleed out. Every time I removed pressure to see if he was healing, a strong jet of blood shot across the room and splattered on the wall again. I note that his wang stayed hard the entire time. Hunter’s life was literally in my hands.
As an aside, I further note that at 4:33 am, five swarthy Spanish looking guys walked into the apartment and left a large bag of white power and something that looked like a shrunken voodoo head, took an envelope from the kitchen table, then left. None of them said a word, nor did they flinch at the sight of Hunter and I covered in blood with me holding Hunter’s ding-dong in my hands. Honestly, if they deal with Hunter, they have probably seen worse.
Hunter survived the night, thankfully. At some point I fell asleep. It appears that by that point the bleeding had stopped. Unfortunately, when I fell asleep I fell onto Hunter. See, to get through the entire night I spent most of the time on my knees at the edge of the couch. It was incredibly uncomfortable. By morning my legs were aching and I was exhausted.
Essentially what happened is that I fell asleep and my head flopped down on Hunter’s lap. I was awakened by the sound of Hunter raging at me. “GET THE FUCK OFF MY DICK, YOU HOMO!!!!”, he yelled, along with a steady stream of epithets and threats. I tried to explain to him what happened and that I saved his life. But he was having none of it.
Fortunately for me, all the drugs scrambled Hunter’s brain. He did not recognize me. He thought I was some vagrant who had broken into his place and sexually assaulted him in his sleep. I took the opportunity to get the fuck out of there. Hunter chased me to my car. He was still nude and he was waiving a gun around as he ran after me. Fortunately, nobody got hurt.
I continued servicing Hunter’s computers for several more months. Then he let me go for “financial reasons” about the time after he was ordered to pay child support. I told him to be careful with his laptops. He said, “Awe…It will be fine.”

2024.04.21 15:07 SharkEva [Final Crazy Updates] - My colleagues call me a “pick me” girl and spread rumours about me which greatly affected my self image
I am not the OOP. The OOP is u/ThrowRA39241 posting in TrueOffMyChest Concluded as per OOP 1 update - Long Original - 5th April 2024 Update - 6th April 2024
2 New Updates
Update - 15th April 2024 Final Update - 16th April 2024
My colleagues call me a “pick me” girl and spread rumours about me which greatly affected my self image.
I 24F am flight attendant at a certain middle eastern company.
I got visa to China because there we have the best flights: long flight, long layover, the best passengers. Every FA will know why.
Anyhow, because it requires visa, many colleagues are lazy to get it so only few of us are frequent on bidding for lanes to China.
It happens that one of first officers is always bidding to China because, as I said, best flight.
I happen to be very often with almost the same group of crew + pilot + first officer every month at least once. FO is a young handsome man and ladies have an eye on him. We were sitting once at the airport waiting for our plane to arrive (we were going to take plane from another crew who would be on layover until next group arrives) and I was playing games on my console.
FO noticed and he sat next to me and started to ask me what I play beside this. And thats how our little friendship started. He would always sit near me and watch me play and we started bringing our laptops to game in lobby of our hotel because it has good internet and we have 2-3 days layover in Beijing. Nothing much to do after you've been many times.
Anyhow, as we started to talk about games, ladies started to interrogate me about nature of our relationship.
Then last week, we were again in the lobby, internet was good, we played a certain 5 on 5 game you all know. We sat across each other in 4 people separate. Two ladies from crew came and sat with us, one sat beside me, another sat next to him. They started to talk to us and we barely answered because we were focused. They were questioning him mostly. Theyd ask me something too. Then after we both died ingame, I asked them to please leave us alone and come after match is done which will be in around 40-50m then they can talk. I indicated that I will leave and they can talk to FO.
They got a bit shocked by my reaction but they left. After the match was done, I said im going back to my room. He said he will go too. I told him girls will look for him. He said and I quote “yeaaa.. I better go asap”.
And we both left to our respective rooms.
The next day, all the girls gave me cold shoulder. They were talking passive aggressively to me. And when we were in the lobby-kind of area after breaking our fast, someone brought sweets and fruits. I took a sour apple and some other sour fruits. (I get pimples from sweets)
FO told me that its a weird choice for dessert and thats when one of the ladies said in front of the whole crew in very sarcastic tone:
“Yeahhh, that’s because she’s so special, so different. Not like us other girls” and another one rolled her eyes very aggressively and almost yelled “did he pick you already” Very awkward. This shocked me so much that I dont even recall what happened afterwards.
Anyway, they (women) dont talk to me now at all and I also heard rumours that I am sleeping with the FO. Which is not true at all. One of male crew told me that they told him how I sent two girls away and told them to come back later but before they returned, I took FO to my room. Not true-
This all makes me not want to go to my flights, it makes me want to change route even though this one is really the best for me. For days I feel like I have a rat in my stomach and I am watching short videos on pick me girls and I feel like crying. At first I didnt let it get to me, but it got to me. I want to rip off my skin and crawl under my bed. I feel like throwing up all the time

101010-trees They are jealous and are trying to put you down so they can feel better about themselves. They act like they’re in high school. You sound like someone he prefers to hang out with without the drama and he’s actually having fun. Be kind to yourself. OOP: Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, I prefer no drama, however, I got pulled into a whole lots of drama. There are talks about a lawsuit. I did not see any of this coming.
CocoaAlmondsRock Tell the FO what happened. OOP: I feel like if i do it, i will be a snitch who is crying to a man in authority over something stupid. “Women stuff” as they call it whenever something happens between women, its like its not significant. And i am afraid they will decapitate me if i snitch
Update - 1 day later
Oh my God you guys! This whole situation spiralled more than I could have even imagined. Small thing became an avalanche.
So someone commented how these women could make up stuff about me stealing and other things that could get me in serious troubles. So I eventually decided to text FO to call me asap because he was operating a flight at the time and that theres an important matter we need to discuss.
When he called me, I told him that xyz people are spreading stories about us sleeping together during a layover.
He said that he knows about it and that he dealt with it.
I was confused. Asked what does he mean by that.
He said that he wrote a letter to the management. In this letter, he addressed the fact that a certain crew member (me) was being verbally harassed by -their position on that flight-.
He noted how he actually warned them politely and privately (I had no idea about that). And that captain actually gave him a permission to do it in his name.
When the harassing continued, he also found out from 3 male crew members (including cabin manager) and 1 flight deck member (pilot in command) that each one of them was personally told by these women that FO slept with me during layover that week.
Not only was he angry that they continued to do this to me, he was actually personally offended by the slander, especially that they accused us during the Holy month of Ramadan.
He wrote a letter and made all above mentioned crew members and pilot sign it. Captain put his stamp on it. And FO did too.
He told me that slandering a woman (and man but mainly woman) without 4 male witnesses is actually a crime in the country where we are based and he had all then present men’s signs, they couldn't make them testify against us but for us.
And our company's policy is that if there's a criminal lawsuit (-not civil lawsuit-) filed against any of the flight operating employees, their contracts will be terminated without further notice.
So he wrote in the letter that he requests these crew members be banned from international layovers for 6 months and that they operate stand by (you dont have a specific lane schedule. You must be ready 12 hours of each day to be called to any random flight, but for them, only domestic. You have 1 hr to appear at the airport. Also, youre paid muuuuch less. This is hell btw) for six months.
He then continued to say that management has only 3 options: to do as he requested, to terminate them right away or to do nothing and have him file in the lawsuit and their contracts will be terminated by default.
And if he does file in a lawsuit, people who made up adultery story might get 6 months in jail.
He copied the letter, had men sign each one of them. He sent one copy to each guy and to the management, he kept the original. He told me that management will call me after Eid and that I confirm everything they ask me and that he will send me a copy of the letter as well.
I am beyond shocked. I am petrified. All I did was my job and play games in my paid free time. I never had any intentions to be part of someones termination or lawsuit. And I had no idea how seriously he took this matter. Too seriously.
I am literally beyond shocked right now and scared as well. I dont feel my legs and im shaking. I threw up after the call ended.
I also asked him why the hell did he take such drastic measures, he said that I am unaware of what these stories can do to our reputation and if they reach wrong ears, even more than just reputation. And he said “and they made you cry, its not drastic enough”. 😭😭
Edit: i wrote some things wrong, sry i was shaken by everything. Sry abt typos
Comments
lynypixie It’s also his reputation that he has to protect. OOP: True. But to be honest, pilots (both captains and officers) are known to sleep around with no shame, with pride, actually. Both married and single ones. Its a common knowledge. I guess this one cares tho. Im glad at least. Someone else would say yeah, we did sleep together, even though we didnt. Though whole situation makes me really nervous and uneasy
international510 Former airline mgr here. Your FO is doing a great service for himself, and you -- I wish we had more of that type of professionalism at my previous American carrier. He sounds ex-military in how he assessed the situation and handled it corporately. My work experience is majority airline, and I can say w/o a shadow of a doubt, reputation carries, damn near forever. We even get word about employees from other airlines, and that has negatively (wrongfully, I might add) impacted people with their professional aspirations. I'm not even going to start with how it's affected people personally. OOP: He has a law degree as well. Aviation was his secondary call actually. He explained to me everything very slowly and clearly in a language I understood.
But to this moment I am surprised how the hell I appeared in midst of this fiasco. Nonetheless, he is something else.
I asked him what does he think will happen, he said he does not think company will let him file in a lawsuit because the story might leak out. Its a really bad look on them as well.
And if they keep them and their punishment expires, by then he will already be the captain and ofcourse continue to bid for China flights. If he sees any of them on his flight, he will have the right to reject them at the airport which he will do. When asked why, he has the original document he made and its completely legit according to the companys policy. He really holds grudges against them. It did not seem like that when it all happened, or I havent noticed.
So he said they will either terminate them or they will take his request but revoke their China visa from the system. But given that they might end up with him on other flights and he will for sure kick them, he believes they will be terminated. Either way, safe to say that I will not see them in China anymore.
6am7am8am10pm WOAH he playing the long game. I thought that 6 month on call position would be the punishment. But actually the punishment is that they will never be on the China flights again if he has his way as the time only allows him to achieve a greater position of power. I'm conflcted here, for my own reasons and I'm aware from a very different culture. On the one hand I'm really relieved that the gossip and slander seems to be on routr to bring utterly stopped in its tracks. Women bringing women down is also just terrible and these FAs deserve some punishment that's harsh enough for remorse. I love FAFO stories. On the other hand I'm shocked by the relative difference in power for these men. Like this man holds a grudge to punish these women in perpetuity. Sure. And he has proof to legitimise this punishment. Okay... But it looks like it's very easy otherwise for a man who doesn't like a female FA (and I'm making an assumption now that most if not all FAs are women, and captains and pilots are men? Correct me if wrong) to do this for any reason. OOP: You’re right and wrong at the same time.
You actually made an excellent point about how he can revoke their China visa and making it the long game.
But let me clear things out. In aviation, hierarchy is everything. If pilot in command passes out, all authority is in hand of First officer who by default becomes the Pilot in Command unless theres a relief captain on board. Thats another captain who sits in business class on long flights. So if pilot in command is tired, they switch.
What pilot says goes.
In cabin, flight attendant in charge (cabin manage, purser, guest director… diff airlines have different names) has the authority after PIC and FO. Then there are premium crew, vvip crew, economy crew, snf …
Every single position can be taken by man or a woman. We have female pilots and first officers however much less in percentage because women dont usually take this path for whatever reason.
I personally would never take role of great responsibility. I cannot begin to list responsibilities flight attendant in charge has, let alone fo and pilot. They are responsible for our lives. With great responsibility comes great authority. A female pilot could ban male crew or FO all the same

Update 2 - 9 days later
Update: You guys! So much happened these days, I dont even know where to start. Also, I am sorry this is very anticlimactic story, not what most of yall probably wanted to hear and I am sorry I didnt answer everyones DM’s. I got no time.
Two parts of update: 1st update abt colleagues - I got a call, management didnt make me much fuss, they decided to let them go because they cannot keep someone who did an actual crime and that FO seems to hold grudges. Btw im on good terms with woman from management with whom I talked to and she informally told me that management knows that FO will make them troubles. So its cheaper to let go of them now than to have to deal with him in the future.
Update 2, personal, since some of u really wanted to know and sent private messages
Okay so basically, I had flight on tuesday to Germany and had layover till thursday.
During this flight and layover, I was not with FO on flight as we never get flight together outside of China lane. However, cabin manager (lets call him Guest Director GD for short) is one of my bosses on flight who sometimes is on lane for China. He is with us like 40-30% of the time.
Anyway, when this entire situation happened, pretty much entire group that goes to China frequently found out abt what happened and it was clarified that FO and I are not together.
Anyway, on my layover in Munich, I was again doing as I usually do, gaming in the lobby when GD came over. He watched me play and we talked a bit. When I finished the match, he asked me if I would like to go bowling with him. We were always distant friendly on flights, he would sometimes be with us in lobby but we never spent 1-1 time.
Anyway, I left to my room, got rdy, met him in lobby at around 8:30 pm, we went, did bowling till like 10:30, then he suggested we go eat something, bla bla, Ill spare you the details, GD asked me to confirm to him if I was with FO, I told him no and why is he asking.
He said he liked me from one event that happened a while ago, wont go into detail, but he said he always thought that I was actually with fo but nobody brought it up, turns out everyone just thought that.
I was a bit stunned for a moment, I told him that I am flattered. He asked me if I liked him, I told him that I do find him attractive and charming, which he really is, but that right now I am going through a lot of stress and he caught me of guard.
He was very chill about it, he continued to flirt with me through out the night in very non-pushy manner. Very light, almost playful flirts. We saw each other again on friday.
Friday night comes, im at home, I did some gaming, FO was online with 3 other ppl, I entered the call, we did little gaming, didnt talk much.
He was very reserved, answered shortly. I later called him privately to ask what’s up, he says he’s busy right now.
I ask him to call me back when he’s done. He did not.
Sunday, we have China lane. On flight he didnt acknowledge me. During layover I was alone, he did not appear in the lobby. So I tried calling him, no answer. I went to reception, asked FO’s room number, as they already know us well, she gave it to me in trust.
I go to his room and ngl, on the way over there, I was nervous what or whom I’ll find in his room. I knock, he’s alone. I asked him if theres something wrong, he says that there is. I asked him to talk, he told me to go away from his room and wait him in the lobby.
Anyhow, I asked him what is up, why is he being distant. He says he thinks its inappropriate for him to be around me further more. I was confused, he then explains everything by simply asking me if I had fun time in Munich. I felt like I am in a relationship and just got caught cheating.
I ask him what does that have to do with anything and who told him about it? He tells me that it has everything to do with it and that unlike -he says word in his language which is basically an insult to a man, like calling another man - not man- GD, he does not run after a woman who is with another guy.
Turns out he knew about Munich, he knew about our date in base and he was bitter about it + it appears that GD and FO have some beef from before.
I asked him if he viewed me more than just a friend, he gave me a look “you stupid or something?” And asked me if I was kidding.
I told him I genuinely had no idea. He then brought up bunch of stuff he did for me that, when he says it, does make it obvious but when you’re being me, it wasnt obvious. I asked why he never told me. He said he made such obvious moves around me and I never reciprocated not even a bit and when I went with GD with no hesitation, no thought how it might look to him, he figured I had no interest in him and wanted the other guy so he simply left me alone.
I told him that I was not with the GD, he told me that had it been just random one time on layover going out, okay, but I went again when I reached base, I obviously was into him. I just stared at him, I mumbled that I am not WITH him and that nothing had happened and he got annoyed, he snatched my phone from the table, unlocked as he knew the password, opened first active social media app and found GD’s chat right at the top. He turned the phone, showed me and said “last text 40 mins ago. Thats all I need to know. I wont be anyones afterthought”.
I was shocked to say the least (still am). This guy does not look like someone who would go for me at all.
I stupidly asked him if that’s it, he said thats it. I was dumbfounded and I dont know why, I just stood up, took my phone like an idiot and walked away. I am still processing the whole situation, dont know what to think, feel or do. After this conversation, I just feel like I got punched in the guts. Just few days ago I was not even considering that we were a possibility.
I am still here. I have no1 to talk to about this so I am just venting here.
On breakfast, he sat very far away from me, did not look at me. I feel sick to my stomach. 4pm, I havent seen him around at all.

permissiontomars Girl first of all he didn’t communicated with you his interests & just assumed that you guys are in a relationship & got mad when you didn’t realised his unspoken intentions He got mad & jealous so the first thing he did was giving you the cold shoulder, Mr Communicator right here everybody. I mean at this point he assumed you guys are in a relationship so why not discuss with you? He crossed your boundaries & went through your phone via forced permission (I mean he didn’t respect you enough to ask you for it first) just because he’s mad From this update alone, FO is giving off major red flags while GD is doing the right things ie making sure you’re available, asking for your consent etc. I don’t know any of you guys enough but FO scares me based on your stories… like what if you guys broke up & he had his ways to make your life a living hell just like what he did to those women?
TwoBionicknees So, every single person thought you were fucking FO because... FO thought you were basically together. Then when he points out all the things he did for you, you go ohhh... yeah. You're response to him not flirting with you on a flight like normal, was to get his private room number, which the hotel was apparently completely fine with as this is normal, go up there and talk to him? So even more people know it's normal for you to go up to his private room in a hotel. He also takes your phone and has the passcode... totally normal for distant co-workers and not two people who are in a relationship. Just to be clear, no one in my life besides a long term sexual partner has known how to get into my phone. Also the second a director asks you on a date, you go, despite having just gotten over a whole thing where everyone thought you were fucking a co-worker. Yeah, I think all your other flight attendants knew what was up. You flirt with guys, go on date, give them your phone pass code and flirt all flight, go to their private rooms, but pretend like you have no idea these guys are interested in you. You are the pick me girl.
Final Update - 1 day later
Final update: Last night at around 2am, I was being miserable when I got a call from FO.
I picked the call, he asked me if he woke me up, I said that I was awake. He asked if I ate anything, I said no. He then asked if its okay that he comes to my room, I said yeah. Second later he’s knocking on my door with takeout.
I let him inside, it was awkward at first. He said he couldnt sleep nor eat, thought I might be having the same issue so he brought us takeout. And added that he wanted to clear things out.
And we did. He apologized for his behaviour, for snatching my phone and said how besides it being a douche move, he shouldnt have acted on his anger especially given the fact that he’s a pilot, he must act better when angry.
He asked me if I had feelings for GD. I said that I didnt. He asked me why am I still texting him, I told him there was no specific reason, I just needed a distraction because these few months and days were too much for me, and we dont talk much anyway. I didnt see my family in half a year, was alone on eid, he was just there, avaliable. Thats it. He asked if we kissed or anything, I said the truth. We didnt.
Anyhow, he then explained to me that he fell for me a while ago, nearly 2 years ago when he still had a lot to go to become the captain. He told me how he questioned me here and there to see my views on world.
He said how I told him a few times just randomly that I’vee never been in a relationship, I do not want a long relationship and if I do find a man that is good for me, I want it to end in marriage, as much as possible in accordance to our religion.
He then continued to say how regardless of his last name and his family’s wealth, he actually is paying his own debt for all the schooling abroad and the debt was big. His father did not support his aviation dreams. Sees pilots to be little more than truck drivers. At the time, nearly 2 years ago, he had soo much yet to pay and he was sooo far from becoming the captain.
He said that now that he is just few more lanes from 4 stripes, he was actually going to ask me to go official for just a few months for him to pay his debt so that he can completely focus on us. He never bothered to do it directly because I didnt go out with any guy, didnt communicate with any other guy more than he was comfortable seeing. He kinda took me for granted, security that cannot go away.
And now that he is so close to getting a promotion, he heard I went out with another dude, and to pour vinegar on wound, that guy happens to be a dude he mortally hates.
That’s why he reacted the way he did and felt like all of our bonding over the past nearly 2 years went to drain for GD out of all people.
I apologized to him for this entire situation and told him that I thought I am hardcore cemented in friendzone given that he was around me for such a long time but never made an official move. I thought he behaved just how men naturally behave around women.
He said he is not upset with me anymore and said how we already know each other so well and asked if I consider him to be a suitable man for myself. I said that I do.
He asked me if I would end my private contact with the GD. I said that I would.
He asked me if I would sign engagement contract to be legally his fiance within few days so that our ‘official’ relationship will be engagement and actually ends in marriage, as soon as he pays his loans. I said that I would.
He told me what mahr he can pay at once or if I want another amount he could pay within some time. I said that I accept whatever he can do and wont burden him.
He ended with saying “is this clear enough for you madam? Are we official?” I laughed and said that now it is and yes we are.
And I took my phone, called the GD in front of him, he was like wtf u doing. I turned on the speaker, showed him sign to be silent. I talked to the GD, explained him in short what happened and he actually started laughing, i could hear he was smiling. He told me that even though FO is an ass, he is actually happy for us and that he thinks FO is the one for me and that he will make me happy.
I asked if he was angry at all, he said no and how he felt like he wont get much warmth from someone else’s sun anyway. GD apologized if he caused issues between us and said it was 100% his intention at first but he thinks im a good girl and its haram to do this to me. Wished us both good luck and safe flight back home. I ended the call.
My FO made a surprised face but didnt say anything.
He told me that he was nervous about operating a flight with no sleep and no food and he knew this had to be done.
Anyhow, we wrapped things up, ate, visibly relaxed.
Right now we are sitting at the airport waiting for our plane to arrive to go back to our base. My cheeks hurt from smiling. I went from being the most miserable person to being the happiest.
I still wonder if he will ever tell me what went on between him and GD tho.
Comments are a bit mixed on whether FO is a walking red flag, or lack of understanding of a non-western culture
taorthoaita Well. Good luck with that heap of red flags. KatarinaRen A bit tough to understand that different countries have very different views and traditions? A red flag in most western countries can be a norm in eastern or muslim countries. Doesn't mean abuse or anything, just vastly different culture. OOP: I dont see an issue with it. Its not for dating, its for engagament. He has obligation to pay me my wedding gift. So I am for it.
And he asked me to cut contact with a guy who obviously wanted to sleep with me, I am okay with that. I see no issues.
For instance, I did not mention having a crush for abt 6 months on him, he never made a move and I eventually gave up. Imagine 2 years hang out with someone every month sometimes even twice or thrice a month, he even would mention some girls in between, for the first year of knowing him. Tf was I supposed to wait for him to maybe one day get epiphany to ask me out.
Also, ok he did a big thing for me that youd usually think he would do only for his parter. 1st, this isnt the first time he did something for me, but he also did for his other colleagues (male), but soo many times I did sht for him out of pure heart. All of us flight attendants and flight crew buy stuff in US because its like 4 times cheaper, we buy stuff in Paris and London for cheaper.
He would see something, when I had visa for US, new shoes, jordans, new iphones, ipads, I bought for him, saved him thousands of dollars. Didnt do it to get under his skin, I did for him and anyone else that I was close to.
So when he did what he did, I just consider it as something we do, have each others back. Seems nuclear for u, isnt nuclear for me.
Also, nobody got mad people assumed we’re together. We got mad because they said I FKED HIM. That could have gotten me killed here yall limited people. + Its really humiliating to think of someone like this in our culture.
I didnt fall in love out of nowhere. No. We are just similar people, with similar qualities and flaws and we’re self aware. I like him physically, I could spend hours with him, I dont get bored, he earns well, ofc I would rather keep him for myself than to see him go with another woman.
And I went with the gd because: a. Ivee been through shit and I was alone and I just needed a break. b. FO didnt give me signs of life in romantic ways (not ones that I noticed) c. A small part of me hoped id get reaction for going with gd. Reaction being this or being passive to i know what Im dealing with.
For 2 years I surrounded myself with him, distanced from all other men and this guy didnt even kiss me. So what am i doing here ? Give me something or gtfo. And actually the main reason i thought that MAYBE he might be little bit into me is because few ppl on reddit were like yeee he likes you.
And I was too much of a pussy to ask him directly.
So yeh its a lot more complicated than its written here.
Also like i brought some vapes for his mom from jakarta that she likes. Its not like i just took favours but never did shit in return. Doesnt work like that in aviation
lynypixie So, you are basically doing what you were accused of. Ironic. OOP: No. He proposed marriage to me, we were accused of adultery. Not the same.
Quirky_Movie She works for an airline in a Muslim nation. It is a crime to have sex outside of marriage in that country. They could be prosecuted for a crime and also fired. Source: formerly employed in the Emirates and I do not mean the airline.
I am not the OOP. Please do not harass the OOP. Please remember the No Brigading Rule and to be civil in the comments submitted by

2024.04.12 07:32 RedFox9906 Canon Changes To Robert Edwin House After The Show.
Before last night this is what we knew about Robert Edwin House. Robert Edwin House was born January 25, 2020 to the famous House family that owned H&H Tools Company. When Robert was 2 years old his parents died in a freak car accident, and his half brother Anthony stole his inheritance and left Robert with nothing, because according to Anthony, Robert was not a "real" House, so he didn't have a right to his family's fortune.
Despite his disinheritance Robert is still able to get into the Institute of Technology because of his natural genius. After graduation Robert creates his own company RobCo in 2042 at the age of 22. RobCo quickly dominates the technology market, and by his 30th birthday Robert House is worth 30 billion dollars. Between the founding of the company and turning 30 Robert takes over REPCONN Aerospace, and starts building the Lucky 38 casino, investing his large amounts of capital into his hometown of Las Vegas Nevada. Because of the actions of his brother Anthony, Robert only trusts other companies in as much as they can increase the market for RobCo Industries, he becomes a maverick in the marketplace, a high end outsider in the business community. He dates multiple starlets, and his affairs become the main stories of supermarket tabloids. No one really understands him, he's a different type of entrepreneur. Although he would make deals to increase the power of RobCo industries, he never was onboard with the other companies. This would cause him years later to destroy Vault 21, turning it into a luxury hotel for guest of New Vegas instead of continuing Vault-Tech's experiment.
Using his intelligence, he develops mathematical formulas based on his understanding of politics, socioeconomic conditions, and his understanding of government he comes to the conclusion in the year 2065 that the government of China and USA will start a nuclear war within the next 15 years.
With this knowledge in hand, Robert House makes it his life mission to save his hometown the city of Las Vegas from the horrors of nuclear war. Knowing his can't save the entire US, he instead develops every aspect of his life to saving his city. Robert's entire goal is to use RobCo Industries to protect his hometown from falling like the rest of the world. He develops technology to extend his own life, scans his girlfriend's minds in order to create life like computer simulations of them to keep him company later, and to make sure no nuclear weapon will strike Las Vegas. Among other anti-nuclear war technology he develops with the goal of saving Las Vegas from the world around him.
After creating his platinum chip that would upgrade his defensive systems, and his securitron armies he has a courier service ship the chip to the Lucky 38. The chip was 20 hours late, the bombs dropped on October 23, 2077 forcing House to try to save his city using an older version of his defensive systems. This caused most of Las Vegas to be saved, but not all of it. It also placed him into a coma that he would eventually come out of decades later. Well he was in his coma the city was picked over by others, tribal gangs that would later be turned into the Three Families. Never the less Robert was able to give Las Vegas the chance he wanted to give it, the ability to rebuild civilization and not damn every following generation because of the actions of one warmongering generation that destroyed the world. This is the Robert House we meet in Fallout: New Vegas. A different character leading his own faction giving us a different type of philosophy to use to rebuild society if we the players choose.
What has changed with House's character now:
- Robert House is no longer a maverick of the technology industry, outside of the other large industries. In fact we now know he worked closely with multiple other large older companies. He's not an outsider anymore using his intellect for his own ends, he has a seat at the table. The betrayal of his half brother seemingly doesn't impact his personality as much anymore. He know happily participates in the destruction of the Earth so long as he can rule the embers like the rest of the rich men clubs.
2. The notion that Robert House "calculated" the end of the world is now untrue. We now know that Robert House knew that Vault-Tech chose to destroy the world so only Vault-Tech survived. This goes against the main story arc that we know about House. 3. Robert House's character arc can no longer be about saving Las Vegas, because that entire theory of survival goes against Vault-Tech's. House's entire story arc was that he understood what was coming because of the nature of the USA and communist China. He chooses to act on his own to give his hometown a chance to survive, and from it give the entire human race a chance to restart after the end of the world. Now? Robert House not only knows it's not the United States or China that caused the end of the world, but Vault-Tech. Worse than that Robert House is an accessory to destroying the world now instead of someone trying to preserve and restart it after the destructive actions of failed government leadership from two nation states. Robert House therefor is no longer an original character, an old world entrepreneur doing what he can to save his beloved hometown, but instead is now a enclave like business executive who participates in the destruction of the world happily. He went from something special in the story, to an unoriginal basic enclave bad guy. 4. Robert House's entire script from FNV can no longer be trusted as a canon source of information. For we now know he's lying about the actual history of New Vegas and the pre war world as he lived through it. The world wasn't destroyed because of a clash of two ideologies, the Communist Chinese vs Democratic USA, but instead was a choice made by a board of directors that he was a part of. 5. So what is the canon reason now that the platinum chip wasn't delivered on time? Vault-Tech chose when the world would end, and House was a part of that decision making process, so he should have known when the bombs would drop. In the old canon House simply miscalculated by 20 hours, it was a rounding error in his mathematical paradigms, now... who knows. We know it wasn't a lack of knowledge now. Making House less of a super genius who almost got it perfectly correct, but instead just a lazy executive who couldn't get his goals accomplished in the given time frame. 6. All of Mr. House's philosophy as he presents it to us in FNV is bunk on the face of it now. No matter your view of how it was originally presented in the game, or the essence of his argument in game, it's now simply false across the board. His objections to both NCR and Caesar's Legion are now false on the face of it. It's not a great debate about the nature of government anymore, it's just a power struggle between differing factions with little actual differences between them. Only the NCR is now truly different by degree, because both House and Ceasar are now just different types of tribal leaders who want to dominate the world in their image. Caesar by human flesh and blood, House by robotic steal and cooper wires. House is no longer about rebuilding civilization and restarting the world after a failed generation's warmongering. He's now one of the warmongers simply trying to gain power after his agreed upon plan to eliminate other factions off the board during the Great War came to pass. His autocratic rule is no longer about him mistrusting the nature of government, well trusting his own reason and contract/compact theory, but instead is a blind power grab that he helped design so he'd have the opportunity to take over. It's no longer about him trusting his own reason, using mankind's ambitions to build a new world, and instead is just about him trying to gain power over others. 7. This means the nature of the relationship between the player and House on a House run is based on complete lies. It's no longer even a employeemployee relationship, nor a partnership of any kind. House isn't the savior of New Vegas, he helped nuke it in the first place. He didn't survive the nuclear war, he helped plan it. His distrust of government as a principle is no longer a hard earned truth from a nuclear war survivor, but instead the lies of a Enclave style bad guy who helped push the button that launched the nukes in the first place. Robert House's contract based society isn't a different way to run a government, it's now simply his way of controlling his tribals. It's his version now of Caesar being the son of Mars, his founding lie. He is in fact " some kind of machine god messiah" now. What made him special in the story of New Vegas is gone now. He's now a run of the mill Enclave style miniboss who lies to his subordinates and instead is trying to simply rule the world in his own image. He's not a victim of the nuclear war, it was his battle plan in part. All and all I personally find these changes rather disappointing. It takes something away from New Vegas that made it special compared to the other games. It weakens a faction, and with that weakens the entire thing that made New Vegas special at least for me.

2024.03.30 22:14 Dismal_Ad5379 Unraveling the Enigma of UFO Encounters: From 1980-1999
This is part 5 out of 6 of the video timeline posts, and the fifth segment of an eleven-part deep dive into UFO ecounters throughout history, the various evidence for UFOs and the related events & topics that's relevant to the history of UFOs.
In this segment we'll explore sightings and events from the 1980s and 1990s. Notable events from these two decades includes the
Rendlesham Forest Incident (1980), the
Cash-Landrum Incident (1980), the
UFO activating nuclear missiles in Ukraine incident (1982), the
Japan Airlines 1628 UFO Encounter (1986), the
Belgian UFO Wave (1989-1991), the
Mexican mass sighting event (1991) that had a lot of unexplainable footage filmed, the
Kelly Cahill abduction (1993), the
Ariel School encounter (1994), the
Varginha UFO Crash (1996) and the
Phoenix Lights (1997), amongst many many other events and sightings.
Continue the journey by following these links to discover the remaining segments:
Previous Part: Unraveling the Enigma of UFO Encounters: From 1970-1979 Next part: Unraveling the Enigma of UFO Encounters: From 2000-2024 All parts & Introdution: Unraveling the Enigma: A Deep Dive Into the History and Evidence of UFOs The playlist this particular timeline is based on: UFO Encounters: A Complete Timeline & Comprehensive UFO Adjacent Rabbit Hole Guide The UFO Timeline
A few things to keep in mind before exploring the timeline in this post: 1) To give the viewer a proper look into all the avaliable evidence, theories, claims and data related to specific cases, many of the most well-known and/or most credible UFO events have multiple videos covering them, making it impractical to link to them all in one post. Instead, I'll link to the first video for each case on my playlist and note the number of related videos to the case. 2) Please note that the first video I link to might not always be the best representation of the incident; it's simply the one that comes first on my playlist. Additional videos for the same incidents can be found by checking the subsequent videos that come right after the first one on the playlist. 3) For cases not listed, check the UFO adjacent topics section in the other posts and on my playlist. Most abduction cases and those from the Soviet Union are included there, as I've primarily listed only the more famous abduction cases and incidents from the Soviet Union on the main timeline. A guide to navigating these sections is provided in the posts UFO Adjacent Topics. 4) Documentaries are organized by release year, except when related to UFO adjacent topics or release dates are unknown. 5) While efforts have been made for accuracy, entries are primarily arranged by year and exact dates within those years may not always be in the correct chronological order. 6) A lot of the titles to the various incidents are just copy-pasted from the youtube videos. In the written timelines I'll try to come up with shorter and less clickbaity titles for each case. 7) This timeline is subject to updates and revisions as new incidents and events are discovered or occurs. 1980-Early 1990s Various

2024.03.26 09:03 Milkpowder44 Lambo or Loony Bin V3 - Reloaded - A comprehensive list of reasons why this community thinks BBBY / Baby / Teddy will go Boom Boom.
Some of you may remember the previous versions of this post. The last one was in September 2023 and I was pretty sure this all would end soon thereafter. How wrong I was lol. I decided to update it so everyone can get back up to speed before the $GME earnings I'm pretty hyped for.
Once again nearly nothing from this DD is my own. While this covers most of the DD in my opinion, I already know I'm missing a shit ton by guys like Jake and Edwin so additions and/or corrections in the comments are appreciated.
Everyone who held all the way through bankruptcy is a legend in my eyes, but we couldn't have done it without the researchers. All praise goes to you guys.
None of this is financial advice of course.
----
RC’s personality, vision, why we think he chose to get in BBBY and why we think he didn’t screw us over by selling in August. RC's:
- maniacal focus on the long term
- keeping his strategy close to the chest
- reputation and wanting to preserve his dad's legacy and values, naming his company Teddy after him.
- work ethic ('when I go for something, I swing for the fences') - ("I like to go all-in. When I find something I believe in, I make concentrated bets.")
- customer delight, pro shareholder
- shared disdain for overpaid execs (Tritton) and shortsellers with Icahn
- found Chewy because he loved his pet and people are willing to spend for what's the best for them. Guess what people love even more? Babies. RC has young kids.
- not wanting to start a new business from the ground up
- initial investment in BBBY being 40% higher than his initial investment in GME -> 121M!! He walked away with around a billion from Chewy, so it's not chump change for him at all.
- filing of (worldwide) Teddy trademarks (very similar to BBBY/Baby) just before he sold, while his installed board members were still on the board. The trademarks are all live and filed legally in good faith with intent to use in commerce.
- RC Ventures SIC code updated to match Bed Bath & Beyond’s late 2022
- being very selective with capital allocation. Still hasn't touched the 1B+ GME warchest
- RC now being able to use the warchest for investments in securities. Essentially making him CIO, similar to Warren Buffett with Berkshire Hathaway. Every day that GME/RC haven’t touched the warchest while this BBBY thing drags on, we can get more bullish.
- "Ryan Cohen may also invest personally in some of the same companies that GameStop invests in. This is to align his interests with the company's interests."
- never sold GME during the sneeze and doesn't even want a salary for being CEO+Chairman. He isn't in it for a quick buck.
- writing a letter to BBBY saying that Baby is a multiple billion dollar company at the time
- loving the memes and reading things in the community (he used to stay up all night reading Chewy reviews, guess what he does now) - he would signal if he was out in my opinion. He probably watches the show from time to time, he definitely has seen the PP/Pulte event.
- picture/meeting with Icahn and him being an idol to him as the OG activist investor
- long-time connection with Matt Finestone and web3 stock/NFT marketplace
- ability to recruit huge list of top talent from Amazon, Chewy etc. to GameStop -> RC probably had a good sales pitch for his vision
- RC joined the board of Dragonfly (where Larry Cheng was also on the board) August 2022. Their mission statement highlights their vision to build a next-generation e-commerce platform’ through their investments. The same day he joined, he tweeted that short sellers are the dumb stormtroopers of the galaxy.
- Like Pulte said: either you trust him or you don't. He’s the realest of realest deals.
Why RC is probably still in - After RC 'sold' his shares after being forced over the 10% holdings treshold, Sixth Street swooped in a couple days later with a FILO loan worth very close to 2 times the amount RC sold for.
- Sixth Street and Kirkland & Ellis have been involved in BBBY since the DAY AFTER Ryan Cohen sold his shares.
- Sixth Street also offered capital through a First In Last Out (FILO) loan. These are commonly used in Leveraged Buyouts (LBOs)
- RC is listed as a creditor (maybe because he owns/owned some of the Warrants?) and interested party in throughout the bankruptcy dockets
- his name being listed as a co-debtor (as himself but also RC Ventures) in lawsuits about leases (and water bills and other utilities)
- form 4 dated 8/16/2022 states that he still had 2.78M shares. RC checked the box acknowledging that he wasn’t subject to section 16 of SEC regulations. Therefore not requiring him to report
- Shelly Lombard (RC's pick / bond degen / SPAC queen) was on the board all the way to the effective date of the Ch.11
- RC tweets about BBBY with a moon emoji the same day he filed the Teddy trademarks - a couple days before he 'sold'
- Pitchbook showing RC Ventures exited their invested interest in BBBY up until April 23rd, right before Ch.11 filing.
- Lawyers billing hours analyzing an ‘activist investor lawsuit and news articles about activist investor’
- Tamar Donikyan billed hours for working with "Sussman" regarding an NDA. Elizabeth Gonzalez-Sussman is the Vice Chair of the Shareholder Activist Practice at Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP, which are RC’s lawyers
- Ryan Cohen still has a protective order for the disclosure of confidential and sensitive information, ongoing for a very long ongoing pump and dump allegation and short swing rule violation, despite this security ceasing to exist in its current form.
- RC and RC Ventures not being a released party in the dockets. Who aren’t released parties? Among others: D&O parties, DIP Agents, the DIP Lenders, the ABL Agent, the FILO Lenders, or the FILO Agent
- BBBYTF huge warehouse facility is a 14 minute drive from GameStop HQ in Grapevine, Texas. GameStop closed one of their own warehouses that they recently strategically purchased/leased for their transformation plan.
- Hudson Bay being named in dockets with a 16(b) reporting claim and 16(b) reporting issues. RC is in a 16(b) lawsuit. HBC = RC?
Teddy facts & vision - RC has affinity with building big (e-commerce, customer centric) businesses -> what he did with Chewy, he can do in any category -> he wants to build an Amazon competitor. Chewy is the ultimate destination for Pets, GameStop for gamers and Baby for babies.
- Teddy started as an online book store, which Amazon was first as well
- Teddy.com's terms of service being Amazon-like, ranging far further than a simple book store.
- Amazon sells 'debranded' stuff, mostly cheap shit and offers no customer support. Huge opportunity to step in as a competitor (Teddy) that sells good products with brand recognition and top customer service.
- Teddy is registered as a bank / financial holding company. They are able to hold NFT securities as custodial assets. Will Teddy be the new Berkshire Hathaway?
- Teddy trademarks went live while BBBYQ was auctioning assets
- Teddy filed global trademarks, going live in Madrid, China, UK among others
- Matt Furlong leaves GameStop after 2 years (ending his non-compete with Amazon), but as of March 2024 still no sign of where he went next. 'Not for long' tweet by RC. RC chose him after an extensive recruiting period, interviewing around 50 candidates, so the tweet is probably not a dig at him. Teddy CEO incoming?
Which other parties may be in, and why? - Icahn planning something 'the shorts will never forget' after the Hindenburg report and attack on the share price of IEP
- This play being pretty similar to earlier activist investing plays by Icahn, like Tropicana Casino. He likes to buy companies 'when nobody wants them'.
- GameStop (1B+ and 800M+ of new loans) with RC at the helm of capital allocation), Larry Cheng (675M) and Icahn (3B loan) all building their war chests while hinting towards an acquisition. Haven't seem to have used them yet (NDA?)
- IEP had a filing where only 16 out of 17 holdings were disclosed. One with a 25b budget was filed to the SEC to be redacted
- Docket shows lists of creditors including Michael D. Sirota who helped Carl Icahn for Casino deals, Morris S. Baue who represented Creditors' rights from Duane Morris LLP lawfirm who also helped Icahn in Chap 11 case of Trump resorts
- Larry Cheng (Dragonfly), RC (Dragonfly) and Brett Icahn (Newell) leaving the board of those companies - Brett selling Newell with 50% loss - Update March 2024: Larry and RC rejoined Dragonly.
- (Tinfoil? / NFT) connections with Lego, Blockbuster, Sears, GameStop, Toys R Us and more. Chewy recently filed NFT trademarks as well.
- Cyber Crew posting NFT’s with Louis Vuitton, Apple, Nike signs among others. Why aren’t they already sued for copyright infringement?
- www.ryancohen.com redirects you to the Apple website.
- Jefferies being used by BBBY, GME as well as IEP. They also helped Icahn found IEP.
- Chewy filed for Tylee's (RC's late dog's name) trademarks
- Dream On Me (private company) very obviously had big funding and built a huge warehouse/distribution center. DOM having Montreal(15 min distance) and Linkedin connection with RC and they both love baby-businesses
- Dragonfly recently importing a bunch of baby stuff from China while Dream On Me reduced their imports from China sharply
- The CEO of $DWAC is a 10% owner of Hudson Bay Capital.
- Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen replying on Twitter to connections made between RC, BBBY/BABY and Flexport for a while, and then blocking TeufelHunden.
- Flexport purchased the warehouse where BBBYTF has registered its business address from $BBBYQ in July 2023. It’s speculated to still haven’t been used.
- In mid-2023, Flexport purchased the logistics-arm of Shopify.
- L Catterton forwarded their 500 million dollar investment into dragonfly 5 days before RC’s $BBBY stake was revealed
- Gamestop's Credit Agreement really focuses on Australia. Australia is mentioned 609 times compared to Europe (32), Canada (76), and United States (87). Toys R Us?
- Overstock have a disdain for shortsellers as well and set a precedent with a NFT dividend.
- GameStop and Loopring now only partner on the NFT Marketplace, and earlier the wallet, but Loopring can operate as a decentralized stock exchange (which they have patents for)
- GameStop has shown that you can fund your warchest by selling some shares during a short squeeze as well as getting a lot of free advertising
- Beyond, the holding company of Overstock and the (shared?) BBBY IP, has a partnership with @Securitize, a company specializing in digitizing transfer agents (e.g. Computershare, AST) and can tokenize shares for any company.
- Securitize has been utilized for a Direct Public Offering / Direct Listing for a brand called Oddity which is funded by L Catterton. L Catterton has been identified as an Activist Affiliate from an October 2022 corporate filing which also matches the date range from the Dealer Manager Agreement, including a filing also from Larry Cheng's Volition Capital joining the group.
- tZero on december 9th 2022 applying for trademarks like TeamsNXT, PlayerNXT, ArtNXT, RacingNXT, GamerNXT, MusicNXT and FilmNXT
Fuckery with the price and the total shares outstanding etc. - SHF's attacking GameStop/BBBY and the baskets’ stock price and more recently IEP. Sometimes the stock price goes straight down in a line.
- Price looking like a barcode at times
- Buy/sell ratio being 70/30 or better nearly every day - often being 90/10
- Huge short %, Cost-to-borrow and Failures to deliver (we were on RegSho for over 2 months). Like Mark Cuban said to us in WSB, their goal is to never close their shorts.
- Moments of insane trading volume and price swings on no news.
- Mark Tritton and Gustavo Arnal sped up their share buyback once they learned of RC's share position. It was that $40M of share buybacks in March 2022.
- BBBY chart following GME-basket and more recently IEP
- Lawyers billing hours analyzing the share count
- Billions of $BBBY tokens being minted on the blockchain. Were they used as locates for shorts?
- Cede & Co reporting to hold more shares than exist according to all reported TSO counts
- $BBBY also held a prominent marketing campaign for a desperately needed reverse split, which strangely wasn’t effectuated. A fishing expedition for fraud?
- More than a 100M shares owned by under 2000 users on the PP-show sub (disclaimer: these are some of the most hardcore BBBYQ addicts)
- Four shareholders reported to be involved in >4.5% TSO transaction according to dockets
- Possibly a much lower amount of total shares outstanding than expected (VW/Porsche squeeze started because of this!). We were drilled down during dilution news/rumors that can be interpreted multiple ways, like the HBC deal and the B.Riley offering
- DeGiro (EU broker) showing BBBY as the most traded stock in multiple countries, certain months, despite the EU not even having BBBY stores, nor products sold there. Mr. Worldwide baby.
- Plan Admin confirming they are looking into several fraud cases, like illegal stock buyback transactions. The references of subpoenas, depositions and interviews along with 71 mentions of "disinterested directors" further the suspicions they're building a case regarding all buy backs.
Why chapter 11 is chosen strategically, and is a good thing for the company.
Why the board probably isn’t acting nefariously and why this isn’t a simple chapter 7 - sell all your shit to the highest bidder - bankruptcy - Three weeks after RC wrote his letter to the BBBY board, he reached a cooperation agreement with them, adding his proxies to the board. This can be seen as pretty fast in the activist investing world.
- A LOT of stuff being under NDA - a lot of lawyer hours billed for confidentiality reasons - hundreds of hours billed for removing things from the dockets
- One of the rules of the qualified bid was that you can't have had a short position in the company
- World class and expensive lawyer team (Kastin, Etlin and more) and with specialties in M&A, restructuring, carve-out transactions, IPOs, SPACs and Ponzi schemes, among others, are in play - their reputation means a lot to them. Top lawyers don't just take random assignments, they need a clear scope of work. Why go for an assignment for a 50 year old specialty linen company that’s just closing down its stores?
- Sue Gove buying shares (with 200K of her own money) and Kastin getting paid (partly) in shares (vested over January 2024, 2025 and 2026)
- Paying forward Workday (expensive ERP/HR system) and Deloitte for multiple years during ch.11 (once again, judge has to approve payments)
- Lawyer (Kirkland & Ellis, Lazard etc.) fees being higher than the (arguably low) shared-IP sales of BBBY and Buy Buy Baby
- They still own the distribution center(s) and didn't auction all the leases. Some of the leases that they’ve kept have RC as a (co-)debtor
- The first ATM offering was never fully used.
- Dream on Me was the second highest bidder. Why not sell to the highest one?
- Sue Gove was selected by agreement with RC for the BABY strategy committee
- Sue Gove interview days before bankruptcy with a vote in confidence in how company is doing, talking about their multi-year strategy
- David Kastin making positive & optimistic comments about the situation on LinkedIn when the situation was looking dire to the community
- Why have the shares been canceled/delisted so soon? There’s a lot of bankrupt stocks which are still trading after several years.
- Plan man using language in the dockets: "the debtors, or their successors,"
- BBBY being allowed to renegotiate with the tax authorities. If this was a liquidation they wouldn’t have been able to.
- Plan man saying all assets of the debtors' estates are encumbered (restricted or burdened) and are being administered for the benefit of the debtors' secured creditor (a.k.a. Sixth Street)
- Plan man estimate to the Final Decree of this Ch.11 being issued is pretty far away. For some entities it is December 2026.
- Docket stating that “the DIP preserved the path to a going concern”.
- Docket stating that certain of the Debtors businesses have been preserved as a going concern.
- AlixPartners identifying David Kastin's affiliation in a docket as BBBY GC (going concern?)
- Alex Blaznik, a debt finance lawyer from Kirkland was "coordinating post-closing good standing certificates". Why? A lawyer would coordinate post-closing good standing certificates in Chapter 11 bankruptcy to ensure that the company emerging from bankruptcy is compliant with all legal requirements and can RESUME OPERATIONS smoothly, These certificates serve as PROOF that the company is in GOOD STANDING with various authorities, such as state governments or regulatory bodies, which may be necessary for the company to obtain necessary licenses, permits, or contracts. Additionally, obtaining these certificates demonstrates to creditors and stakeholders that the company has SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATED the BANKRUPTCY process and is ready to MOVE FORWARD in a FINANCIALLY STABLE manner.
- David Kastin saying it’s one of the most extraordinary bankruptcies ever - a simple process of IP-sales into a liquidation wouldn’t seem to be so extraordinary to me.
Why a mergeacquisition/carve-out is in play "Make Whole Calls" pertain to corporate bonds and represent a contractual clause enabling the company to retire the bond prematurely by settling the remaining debt. The January 13th LBO was not a failure, it was a triggering event for a change of control transaction - Payments to Lazard and price action (from $1.48 to $5.47) lining up with that Pitchbook data
- The ABL loan from JP Morgan was defaulted on. One of the reasons for a default is a change of control
- The cooperation agreement between BBBY and RC was never terminated, not even after RC sold. It was reiterated by Sue Gove in an 8k filing August 31 2023.
- RC reserved the right to hold the board accountable per his letter, but he never did. He also held the right to assign new board members but he never did - implying job’s done?
- Making a qualified bid was made extremely difficult (on purpose because a deal's already on the table?)
- Canceling the auctions (same reason?)
- Gibbons admitting in a docket that the debtors underwent a change in control
- Lawyers confirmed in court as well as in the dockets that Sixth Street will be credit bidding
- They also document the revising of the credit bid—indicating there was a previous draft already written—and they discuss the credit bid in the context of cure costs - “But 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 is the credit bid? Why hasn’t it happened yet?” Because it can only happen at the end, when the Judge allows it, to ensure 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝙤𝙣𝙚 change of control, to preserve the IRC 382(l)(5) NOL, the “home run” scenario as described so well by Mr. Howe from Alvarez & Marsal.
- Lawyers billed thousands of hours for M&A and restructuring activity.
- Lawyers billed 8.5 hours for ‘prepare disclosure schedules for carve-out asset purchase agreement’
- Bankruptcy court has to approve all payments
- Sue Gove having a terrible poker face saying 'I haven't heard about those rumors' when asked about M&A in the E-Toro interview (that was filed to the SEC)
- Buy Buy Baby 2.0 relaunching under new ownership - hiring (former) Baby execs. Some of those left in 2021.
- Lawyers billing hours on 7/11/23 drafting correspondence regarding 'closing of BABY acquisition'
- Lazard billing hours for 'sale process workstreams (data transition)’ under the M&A code
- Lawyers billing hours discussing ‘Baby on a standalone scenario’ (with Patty Wu)
- Lazard billing hours for 'transition call with going concern buyers', 4 days after the going concern auction was cancelled
- Lawyers billing hours 'drafting correspondence re 10-K disclosures on share issuance' (so it can't be about the previously filed 10-K). 10-K's can be used to disclose terms of M&A's
- Nearly 10x increase in the number of pages filed in the September 6th 2023 GME 10Q, being 267 pages and the word acquisition is mentioned 98 times within this 10Q. Some of the EXACT same legal wording in this 10Q has been used only once before: in a strategic acquisition by Blue Nile, which is founded by Mark Vadon (RC’s mentor)
- $BBBYQ was able to file their Form 15 under Rule 12g-4. Filing under this rule is easy to establish in typical M&A scenario’s, in which the target company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of the acquiring company.
- GME insiders haven’t bought more shares since Oktober 2023 while the price is very low at the moment. Have they simply lost confidence all of a sudden or are they maybe in a blackout period due to M&A activity?
- The BBBY ticker being reserved by the estate
- Buy Buy Baby adding acquisition language in their privacy policy
- Buy Buy Baby ‘Transition Executive & CTO’ states in her profile that she’s “Developing multiple go forward and carve out scenarios for Technology and Product capabilities to support the bidding process for this client in one of the large retail bankruptcies in 2023”
- Lawyers billing hours for ‘NOL recapture’. Specific events or conditions that might trigger a NOL recapture can include “changes in ownership, significant changes in the nature of the business, or reaching certain profitability thresholds.”
- the quarterly financial reporting done by the plan man is done separately for BuyBuy Baby and BBBYTF from the parent co, DK Butterfly. The three entities haven’t distributed all of their cash sitting with them. Inconsistent with a “liquidation”.
- DK-Butterfly, BBBYTF, Buy Buy Baby and BBB Value Services are all marked as separate Reorganized Debtor entities. Reorganized Debtor means a Debtor, or any successor or assign thereto, by merger, consolidation, reorganization, or otherwise, in the form of a corporation, limited liability company, partnership, or other form, as the case may be, on and after the Effective Date. The debtors have reduced their liabilities from 74 entities down to these 4.
- AlixPartners saying in their completion fee filing that they “Preserved value and transferred a significant portion of the company’s assets to its creditors” a.k.a. Sixth Street.
- Docket specifies that if sellers or their affiliates use trademarks or variations of the term "BuyBuy BABY" in their company names after the business transaction is complete, they must either dissolve those entities or change their names to remove any mention of these trademarks by September 30, 2023. YET, Buybuybaby is STILL being used by $BBBYQ in Chapter 11, unlike Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. which is now 20230930-DK-BUTTERFLY. Why hasn't the entity been renamed?
Why shareholders aren’t going to be wiped out. - Shareholders can't be wiped out if the company wants to preserve the 1.6B (and possibly much larger) NOL's. These are a very valuable asset, confirmed by the company in a 10k. You just don’t let these expire.
- Gibbons complained they weren’t able to monetize the NOLs due to the speed of the bankruptcy
- As soon as the Debtors secure the protection of the NOL from the Court, they begin the NDA documents, the carve-out and importantly: designating the clean team. The clean team are to protect against antitrust violations in mergers and acquisitions.
- Lawyers billing hours for a Section 382 Shift rollforward. This is the process of figuring out how much of the company's NOLs can still be used for tax benefits after a significant change in ownership
- RC replaced the leaving CFO with an Interim PFO tax-specialist. Why? Could they be acquiring a company with complex tax attributes?
- Bondholders agreeing to a 0 to 2.5% cash return. Will they be made whole with debt-to-equity swap?
- Lawyers billing hours for 'voluntary delisting', which can happen after mergeacquisition, and more hours billed for activities regarding legacy shares
- Lawyers billing hours late July 2023, 'instructing AST' - Instructing Transfer Agents is only done in three cases: mergers, conversion or IPO
- Lawyers billing hours 'corresponding with AST and directors re issuance of common stock per awards exercise'
- Lawyers billing hours reviewing and analyzing disclosure agreements and the delisting process (if you issue new shares you have to delist the old ones)
- On 7/31, lawyers addressed the SEC objection to the plan. Travis/Jake do not foresee the SEC objecting anything that has to do with liquidation. Shares are in play.
- Lawyers billing hours for writing a new 8-K in late July 2023. 8-K's are to announce significant events relevant to shareholders
- Lawyer Tamar Donikyan billed hours for discussing RSAs (restrictive stock awards) for directors. Equity holders, including RSAs for directors, are last in line in payment in ch.11 situations, so if they are good, we are good as well.
- HBC had the ability to dispose of their position at the onset of bankruptcy for a guaranteed 15% profit. They did not. They’re in class 9 as well as us, so if they’re made whole, so are we.
- When some people’s shares were removed, the code used was $CASH reorg transaction.
- Customer reps saying that Buy Buy Baby is not owned by DOM, but by a ‘private group of investors’.
- DK-BUTTERFLY has been discovered to be holding the common shares in a unit trust.
- Lawyers billing hours for a revising a proposal for a Section 1145 offering. This is a “rights offering for shares of New Common Stock to be conducted in reliance upon the exemption for Securities act section 1145.
- Lawyers billing hours for a 10b5-1 plan. Rule 10b5-1 allows insiders to sell company stock by setting up a predetermined plan that specifies in advance the share price, amount and transaction date.
- Why would the judge be allowed to freeze all >4.5% holders and then the share price gets shorted to nearly zero?
Media FUD, shills & bots - Fake news media/shills/Cramer telling us to sell everyday - ‘SELL OR DIE’
- Paid(!) shills and bots infiltrating Reddit to destroy communities and create FUD, therefore having to migrate every once in a while. When GME/BBBY runs, media always only mention 'WSB crowd'
- Reddit nuking the PPshow subreddit on BS reasons, the one subreddit they couldn’t infiltrate/control
- The few shills who dare to come on the PP show are always level 1 shills who won’t show their face and get emotional really quickly. Where are the level 100 Jake-like shills?
- MSM only dragged GME and BBBY through the mud while pushing that RC bought Alibaba and Nordström. Similar to when MSM/WSB/Alex Jones pumped silver during the GME sneeze. RC reacts around that time with the 'RC buys all stocks' meme.
- People/Mods who were obviously and probably deliberately wrong about the Plan v Book DRS debate, also bash BBBY. Like Pulte said, it's a great counter-indicator
Other - Great community and ultra loyal diamond handed shareholders with some huge wrinkled brains posting and peer-reviewing every little piece of info every single day and coming to a common understanding.
- Larry Cheng joining the PP/Pulte event - surely he must’ve had the green light from RC? Additionally saying (paraphrased) that he sees a future where communities like ours are more powerful than Goldman Sachs
- Lawyers mentioning in court that you “can’t un-bake the cake”
- Jake being charged a big fee by one of his brokers for his BBBY shares, but couldn’t be told why “yet”.
- DOJ was present on the first day hearing in the BBBY bankruptcy.
- Letters sent to senate and congress, billed in the dockets. Ponzi & RICO lawyers billed everywhere.
- Lawyers investigating maritime litigation issues - lawsuit against MSC - shortly after starting the ch.11
- David Kastin made a conscious decision on behalf of BBBY to stop severance payments to Mark Tritton under the legally binding separation agreement on January 18th, 2023. Despite further funding from Sixth Street, the agreement was never reinstated.
- The name structure of BBBY Acquisition Co appears to be a placeholder, transitory name that is used for a SPAC.
- copies of the company name change were sent to Christian O'Nagler & Tamar Donikyan of Kirkland & Ellis. Both lawyers are SPAC/IPO specialists
- Holly Etlin saying in court that BBBY is a 5 billion dollar company
- Holly Etlin saying “there will be a story told about what happened here but it's not my story to tell right now”
- Holly Etlin also states the FILO (Sixth Street) is still looking for recovery there and that hasn't happened in retail for a long time except from fraud cases
- Holly Etlin really wanted the plan confirmed by September 29th, the same day the quarter reporting period ended for Sixth Street and the same day that Hudson Bay Capital filed an SEC Form D, a form to be used to file a notice of an exempt offering of securities
- An 11B+ dollar claim with admin priority (so ahead of Sixth Street) was filed by Brandon Meadows. Submitting a false claim is a felony.
- Baby and BBBYTF end their monthly operating report before the effective date. Kirkland & Ellis ended working with the debtors around the same time.
- Sixth Street expanded the FILO loan in February by $100 million despite already knowing that Lazard and the board were soliciting going-concern buyers in December.
- In January 2023, David Kastin had very oddly issued a series of Form 4's to SEC Edgar, first taking away all of the director's RSA and then returning them to all the directors except for Ms. Edelman.
- Overstock used the BBBY IP after only 14 hours while Dream on Me waited 126 days.
- RC being investigated for a pump and dump while Jake Freeman isn’t. Instead, the media hailed Freeman as a genius who just made a good play by buying the exact bottom and selling the exact top.
- BBBY drastically reduced debt from 5+ to around 1.5 billion during ch.11. 1B in unsecured bonds and 473M in secured debt. Possibly reducing even more debt after debt-to-equity conversion?
- Sixth Street owns 87% of that debt. They’ve been in control of this entire bankruptcy.
- In Chapter 11 you can dispose of bad debt 1:1 against the NOL. It’s called CODI, or cancellation of debt income. Aside from bad debt, an emerging company can convert all debt holders into equity holders of the new enterprise.
- Mysterious bond buying in large quantities by somebody for pennies on the dollar
- Andrew Freedman of Olshan saying in February that any way you look at it, 2024 already is shaping up to be an eventful year for shareholder activism.
- Pulte, who’s also big on his reputation, joined the pp show with a terrible poker face. Praising PPseeds and Kais later on and the community as a whole, saying that we are the future presidents and CEO’s - why would he do all that if we're going to zero?
- Pulte interacting in subreddits like SS, Beyond Uranus and ThePPshow, even when they had a lot less subs. Also interacting on twitter and joining spaces calls with hardcore BBBY figures.
- RC having some of the same lawyers as Pulte. Pulte’s also one of the only ones that RC interacts with frequently during all these times via Twitter likes, and more recently they’ve met for several hours and took pictures.
- Before the cancellation of shares, the valuation of BBBYQ seems like it's based on ch. 7 bankruptcy, very close to zero, around 7 cents per share. EVEN IF RC and Icahn aren't in, but we still emerge from ch.11 successfully, we moon.
- BBBY(Q) returning to several brokers after delisting despite not even been emerged from ch.11 (yet).
- Bonds are still trading
- The judge’s wife loved the coupons.
- This whole post by Jake
- Tumbleweed DD
Some of the most fun tinfoil: - RC's first buy-in was at January 13th 2022, 1 million shares with an average of 14,769 (741 backwards and 69)
- RC tweet “You know you’ve made it when you buy a turtleneck” around the January 13 2023 events
- RC liked the Shorts Strike Back tweet (with photoshopped heads of Etlin, Icahn, Pulte, RC and more).
- Pulte tweet that RC shortly liked and deleted of a meme them sitting on a horse before a BBBY store with Icahn behind it
- Pulte replying eyes emoji to a tweet saying “Pulte says what RC can’t. Just know this”
- Pulte confirms that Only the Young is about RC and other young leaders who will transform the market
- Elon tweeting “buckle up everyone … and don’t forget your towel”
- Pulte during the PP show saying that he recently invested in a guy *we would all know*, that's going to be worth 100B in the future, but can't tell who it is because of an NDA. He said he hasn't invested in BBBYQ (yet), but maybe he did invest in Teddy? A dude potentially worth 100B must be building a conglomerate.
- Pulte and RC posting several photos of them together
- RC’s brother Brad, who are pretty close with each other, liking a bunch of BBBY-related posts on Twitter
- RC dropping the volume 2 Teddy books around an hour after Pulte showed some of volume 1 on the PP show.
- RC winking when talking about shorts in the GMEdd interview
- Doug Cifu having multiple meltdowns
- ‘RC buys all the stocks tweet’ having 4:07 timestamp in it, posted around the time that BBBY’s price was also (around) $4.07
- The GameStop/Gmerica NFT having a winking Teddy Roosevelt
- Patty Wu and Pulte quoting Teddy Roosevelt - when Kais was one of the first and only ones to start talking about Roosevelt.
- Teddy bears showing up everywhere - most notably on top of a towel during a court hearing
- "All in by Teddi" trademark live, filed by Teddy holdings
- Teddy books showing ‘C A S H’
- GameStop tweeting a video where Bobby became a butterfly as their favorite fragment of King of the Hill
- The '13' belt in the Teddy books - hinting at the January 13th transaction?
- Protocol Gemini tweeting BBBY emoji's after we went up for a little bit
- 741 = 369 (Nikola Tesla). GameStop sneeze, January 28th 2021, was 33,333 days after Black tuesday in 1929
- Icahn showing the clock with 1:47 PM on it in a video which suddenly zooms in on that at that exact moment, and having a bahamas map behind him
- Pirate flag emoji's posted by RC and some prominent Loopring and NFT Marketplace people - signaling hostile takeover?
- Tweets between Blockbuster and RC signaling they may come back from the dead
- RC tweeting Benjamin Franklin two weeks after property on 45 Veronica Ave, Franklin Twp (DOM) was sold to Miami Acquisition LLC
- Larry Cheng included ‘and beyond’ in a tweet about Volition Capital funds, which he didn’t include on LinkedIn. Posted 10 minutes after BBBYQ extended 10Q was filed, after not tweeting for 5 months
- RC tweeting Animals and babies must be protected at all costs
- David Kastin’s Instagram story, tapping (high alcohol%) drinks with Holly Etlin and more around 11 A.M. after a court hearing(?)
- GameStop tweeting the horse from 1-2 Switch at the exact deadline of the stalking horse bid
- Gamestop NFT strangely worded tweet ‘The BBQs are stocked and fireworks are ready’ in a tweet
- The GME sneeze of January 2021 and all the DD following, along for example this post about MMTLP in my opinion basically confirms that our theses about naked shorting and short squeezes are true. If a relatively unknown company like MMTLP price goes into the thousands, what about more popular ‘meme stocks’ like GME and BBBY?
- Michael has seen the GMErican dream

2024.03.12 21:23 lil_chunk27 Trip Report: Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto with two first-timers in Feb/Mar
Just got back from 14 days in Japan. I found trip reports on Reddit super helpful and thought it might be nice to write one, sort of pass on the favour.
We are a couple in our 30s from the UK and this was our first visit to Japan. We are interested in food, art, museums and generally wandering, my partner is also really into video games. We really wanted to spend time exploring and enjoying ourselves, but weren’t necessarily aiming for a min/max approach. We are quite keen planners and did a lot of research on things to do in advance, but tried to give ourselves room to adapt and stumble across things. Neither of us are big nightlife people. We saved in advance and tried to put ourselves in a position where we didn’t need to worry too much about spending, but we also did do things a bit on the cheap like just getting konbini breakfasts.
I think I’ve also realized we probably aren’t very discerning since we loved basically everything.
Some thoughts below!
TRAVEL - We flew with China Eastern Airlines with a stopover in Shanghai. Personally I think long haul flights are something to be endured rather than savoured so to my mind the flights and layover were fine for the price. Quite a funny selection of films on board with 2014’s Interstellar listed under “Hot new hits”. If you fly with the same airline, I would recommend downloading a few movies/shows to your phone to pass the time.
- We used Pasmo passports to get around. I think people generally prefer Suica but we’d read it wasn’t available at Narita and I don’t have an iPhone. I kinda feel it was much for muchness, and Pasmo worked fine and was convenient for us to top up.
- We pre-booked Shinkansen tickets from Tokyo to Osaka, and Kyoto to Osaka. Could not believe the size of the overhead luggage racks on the train - our cases were H75 x W50 x D30cm and fit up there.
- We used google maps to navigate and this worked well for us. We didn’t find the transport system too overwhelming (the station numbering on the metro is genius, why don’t more places have that?), but we DID find Japan’s unreserved love of the shopping centre built into/on top of train stations a bit overwhelming, like just constantly being expelled from a busy train into a Parco was a bit much. We started just trying to find a way out quickly and go from there rather than trying to get to the right exit.
HOTELS - In Tokyo, we stayed in Sotetsu Fresa Inn Higashi in Shinjuku for the first stretch. The room was really tiny so we did have to regularly pull suitcases up onto the bed, but the location was really convenient for getting around, and also great when we’d had a long day and decided to eat near the hotel. Had a coin laundry and set up luggage forwarding for us.
- In Osaka, we stayed in Hotel the Flag in Shinsaibashi. This was a bigger room with a bigger bed which was nice, and again the location was great for getting around. There was a coin laundry and they did luggage forwarding for us. The only thing here was that the room didn’t have an openable window so it was really warm and dry, we both kept waking up with sore throats.
- In Kyoto, we stayed in Yu No Yado Shoei. This was a Ryokan and was really nice. It was a bit more away from it all but that actually suited us at this point in the trip. It had a tattoo-friendly public bath which we loved, so restorative after so much walking. We went everyday. The only drawbacks were that they couldn’t set up luggage forwarding and there wasn’t a laundry, and we probably should have checked this before booking, but we booked before we knew the luggage forwarding existed. It just meant when we got back to Tokyo we had to go to the hotel near Nippori first.
- Back in Tokyo, we stayed in Hotel Wagokoro near Nippori station. This was a really nice hotel, enough room to pack which was handy. Did not have a laundry but was opposite one, amazing bakery not far away.
PLANNING AND PREP - We booked flights first and then worked from there on how to split the time and sort hotels. We booked flights when they felt most affordable/convenient to us, but actually think the timing was good - we caught the odd bit of early blossom but definitely felt like we would have found it overwhelming during the busiest periods in some places.
- For hotels we took some recs from the internet and friends but ended up basing the choice mainly on cost and locale as well as online reviews. In Kyoto we wanted to find a ryokan with a public bath which narrowed our options.
- To plan our itinerary, we set up a google map and started pinning things we were interested in over a couple of months, including attractions and places we might like to eat. From there, we started grouping things that were close together into possible day plans, and then put this into the Wanderlog app. We found Wanderlog quite helpful as it flagged when things were closed as we were planning. We did get the free trial of pro and played with the optimization features but ultimately decided it wasn’t worth it, but did like the app. We also updated it at the end of each day to record where we’d been.
- Splitting the time: We settled on bookending the trip with Tokyo as that’s where our flights were from, with 3 full days in Osaka (one of which was a trip to Nara) and 2 full days in Kyoto. I know lots of people say Osaka can be a day trip but we really liked it as a city, I actually would have loved to spend a full day in the Expo park where Tower of the Sun is, as we could have spent much longer in the Ethnology Museum and there were other museums there as well as beautiful gardens. I also felt like our two full days in Kyoto were really touristy and we didn’t see much of the city proper - these were great days and I wouldn’t have skipped what we did, but I was grateful for the day we arrived where we got to see a bit more of the actual city.
- Our main sources for recommendations were Reddit, Google (searches like “things to do Tokyo,” “Shibuya itinerary”), friends. I think it’s sometimes easy to get caught in loops and see the same things again and again, especially with recs on TikTok, and I do wish we’d done a bit more just looking at google maps to see what else was in areas, like in Arashiyama we would have planned in the Orgel Museum if we’d spotted it in advance of actually being there, but it didn’t get mentioned in any recommendation articles, we just saw it on the map when we were there and didn’t have the time.
- Duolingo: we both did 4 or so months of Japanese Duolingo in the run up which was sort of helpful, but I think we should have also done some specific phrase learning for travel. I felt like it would have been useful to know, for example, numbers 1-10 and I just didn’t make it that far in Duolingo, probably used more from the phrase book we took with us than that. Mostly we said please, thank you, excuse me and google translated anything where we needed help bridging the communication barrier.
- Planning food: we didn’t want to do much queueing, so we weren’t sure how much we’d follow recommendations online. We pinned some places to the map and often used them for ideas when we were out, but didn’t stick to them too much. We booked one meal in advance for my partner’s birthday, at Bird Land in Tokyo. In general, we would decide what we were in the mood to eat and just plonk that into google maps and go somewhere highly rated nearby. This likely means we didn’t discover the most interesting spots but ultimately this approach served us well, we enjoyed every meal. Where we ate is in the itinerary below.
- Booking in advance: we booked Umeda Sky, Tokyo Skytree, Sagano Romantic Train in advance. These were useful anchor points for our days but it was nice to not have too many commitments in place. We also booked the Ghibli Museum in advance – we had a few days we could do this which was helpful, and my partner set up booking over 3 devices when it went live. Ultimately I think this is just luck though, he got to be 67th in the queue on one device (others in the deep thousands) and so we got our first choice date. Would recommend having multiple cards you can pay with ready to go as one got rejected for an unknown reason but it worked with another.
PACKING - We took one big suitcase each and half filled them so we could easily bring stuff back. We took clothes to last a week and then planned to do laundry while away. We did not plan to buy extra clothes there (we’re both tall and plus size). In the end, we could have probably taken a bit more as we did not buy nearly as much as expected (it looks like most “hauls” are clothes and cosmetics which just aren’t huge areas of interest for us).
- We took some medicine with us, like paracetamol, ibuprofen, because we figured it would be easier to take than to find there if we weren’t feeling well. Ibuprofen was good for sore feet.
OTHER THOUGHTS AND CONSIDERATIONS - It was very dry! Not weather wise but like, the air? We didn’t expect this but especially the first few days in Tokyo it just felt like we were shriveling up, even in the rain. We ended up needing to buy moisturizer and lip balm and we got through nearly all of it trying to make our skin feel less like papyrus.
- Weather was colder than we expected, if you’re going at a similar time I would definitely take a good raincoat and options for light layering. Most shops and attractions have umbrella storage which was amazing. It was also very windy in Tokyo.
- For data, we used Airola e-sims. We had good coverage throughout the trip, they were easy to set up and quite cheap for 20 MB each, which more than covered all of our navigation and messaging. No complaints.
- Cash - we always had cash on us, generally taking out 7 or 8k yen every few days. However we actually found that, outside of small restaurants, more places took cards than we expected, like museum/gift shops and konbinis. Cash (especially 100 yen pieces) was useful for when we saw cute gacha, goshuin seals, arcade games. We had a lot of change at some points so did sometimes try to pay with it, but we’d make sure to count out in advance so we didn’t hold up queues or waste people’s time. We also found uniqlo had self-checkouts that took change so I bought some socks for the flight home and paid almost entirely in 10 yen and 1 yen bits.
- Trash - definitely do carry a tote or ziplock bag for rubbish as there are not a lot of bins around. Most konbinis have bins though so we would often drop whatever we were carrying whenever we stopped in for a snack or drink, so we didn’t accumulate that much each day in the end.
- Toilets - Japan is really amazing for public toilets. I will envy this of them for the rest of my life. Most train stations, larger shrines or temples, parks and shopping centres have public toilets. This was great. They do not all always have bins for menstrual products though which can be a bit tricky - I found the shopping centre ones tended to though.
- Eki stamps: we bought an Eki Stamp book towards the end of the first day in a bookstore in Shibuya (I think Books Keibundo) and collected these throughout the trip. In general, this was really fun and made a great souvenir. We started trying to work out the stamp location before getting to a station so we could pick the right exit, aided by the website Funakiya's Travel Stamp Book, which was a good approach because on the occasions we hadn’t done this we sometimes got a bit stressed trying to find them when we were tired. Generally we loved Eki stamps though occasionally it did feel like an albatross around our necks, but we definitely have slight completionist tendencies.
- Goshuin seals: I ended up LOVING visting temples and shrines so we did a goshuin journal that ended up pretty full. We bought it at the first shrine we visited. Getting the seal normally costs 300-500 yen, the majority of temples and shrines will write directly into your book but some (especially bigger or busy ones like Kanda) will give you it on a sheet of paper instead. This is my favourite souvenir of the trip and I think really worth doing if you plan to hit a lot of temples.
- Walking: we walked A LOT. I’ve included our step count in the itinerary below, but almost every day we did 20k+ steps. It was a great way to see different parts of cities, but there were times we overdid it because we maybe hadn’t planned the routes well, or because we thought walking and public transport would take a similar amount of time and decided the walk would be nicer, neglecting to consider public transport might at least offer a chance to sit. Overall we managed fine, a few sore feet and blisters along the way but it felt manageable for us, but definitely worth considering what your own limits might be.
- Breakfast: we ate melon pan from a konbini basically every morning as we decided this was an area we didn’t mind compromising on. Also melon pan is great. We did this for lunch sometimes as well.
ITINERARY Will attempt to keep this brief as this post is already long but happy to discuss anything! The below is what we actually did, rather than what we planned. A lot of the shrines and temples, especially in Kyoto, are ones we stumbled across while walking and went to look around, rather than what we planned in.
Day 1: Tokyo - Arrived at Tokyo Narita Airport and got Pasmo cards
- Travel to hotel in Shinjuku
- Immediately purchase a Family Mart Family chiki snack
- Wander round Shinjuku and Kabukicho
- won a coin purse on the UFO catchers, very useful in the coming weeks!
- Went to Don Quijote Shinjuku but bottled it after the second floor, it was so busy and just too much after a long day’s travellin
- Dinner: Kitakata Ramen Bannai Yotsuya in Omoide Yokocho
- Small place doing pork based ramen where you order via a vending machine, also does great gyoza
- Really delicious and exactly what we wanted after a long day of travel, not super busy for the area especially considering it was a Saturday night (maybe we had beginner’s luck)
Day 2: Tokyo 26, 708 steps - Gotokuji temple
- Arrived at 8am and it was very quiet, only a few other people there
- Shokokuji temple
- Shoin shrine
- Shiro-Hige’s cream puff factory
- Arrived about 15 minutes before opening and were first in line (it was raining), by opening there were a few other people. This was absolutely delightful.
- Japan Folk Crafts Museum
- Meiju Jingu
- Thought this might be very busy but it was raining so not too bad
- Harajuku
- Shibuya (Pokemon centre, Nintendo Tokyo, Tower Records, Scramble Crossing)
- Lunch: Tonkatsu Wako Shibuya Mark City
- Inside a shopping centre selling tonkatsu and katsudon
- Queued about five minutes
- Very generous portions, really nice and crispy food
- Dinner: we got a konbini picnic to eat in the hotel room because we were tired
Day 4: Tokyo 29, 174 steps - Inarikio Shrine
- Kōkoku-ji
- Jimbocho Book Town
- Kita No Maru Park (we had planned to do Museum of Modern Art and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace after, but neither were open in the end which we hadn’t anticipated)
- Ginza
- Itoya was the highlight for me
- We aren’t big shoppers so Ginza was architecturally interesting but not thrilling for us, felt similar to Regent’s Street in London where I would only go there if I wanted something specific
- Back to Shinjuku for a wander and dinner
- Lunch: CoCo Ichibanya
- Chain of places selling curry, was very cheap and pretty nice
- Dinner: Kameya in Omoide Yokocho
- Unbelievably cheap soba and tempura
- Queued for >5 minutes and I think we were lucky to sit together
- One of our favourites from the whole trip, just really delicious and a fun one to watch the staff cooking in; they made the vegetable tempura by eye and watching them mix it up was amazing
- Dessert: Square Enix Artnia
- We went for pancakes, they were pretty good
- Not the cheapest but quite a funny experience
Day 4: Tokyo 22,200 steps - East Gardens of the Imperial Palace
- National Museum of Modern Art
- Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara
- Was Octopath Traveller 2 themed at the time so quite quiet, think it would pick up for FF7
- Food was nice though more on the expensive side of the places we went
- Quite a funny experience and we enjoyed it but not a top tier rec from me
- Yanagimori Shrine
- Yushima Seido
- Kanda Shrine
- Wander round Akihabara (my partner got some retro games in various places)
- Hanabusa Inari Shrine
- Don’t travel specifically for this but this was a real favourite of ours, and definitely worth the few minutes detour if you’re in Akihabara - tiny shrine nestled in between skyscrapers
- Dinner: Mensho Kamayoshi
- Curry Udon ordered from a vending machine
- Has a slimmed down English menu which they were quite insistent we used, also brought us cheese to put on the udon which they didn’t do for any non-westerners (we found this funny)
- Was really nice and a very generous portion
Day 5: Tokyo 22,210 steps - We planned to do the Mitaka City Gallery of Art but discovered it was closed - think this is just evidence we sometimes found Japanese websites run through google translate hard to parse
- Ghibli Museum
- Walk through Kichijōji and looked at Kichijōji Petit Mura which was a cool set of buildings
- Nakano Broadway
- Back to Shinjuku for dinner, UFO catchers and wander
- Hanazono shrine at night
- Dinner: Kakekomi Gyoza
- Didn’t queue
- Really enjoyed the gyoza, very cheap and some surprising ones (some came in a honey mustard sauce which felt not very traditional but extremely good)
- Service is quick and orders done through an ipad
- Very cheap
Day 6: Travel to Osaka 19,194 steps - Shinkansen to Osaka, armed with bento bought at Tokyo station
- Namba Kimba shrine
- A few shops in Shinsaibashi
- Amerika Mura
- ate great donuts at BPC donuts
- Checked into the hotel
- Dotonbori
- ate some melon pan at melon bread and had the melon pan song in our heads for the remainder of the trip
- Bunraku exhibition at National Bunraku Theatre
- I love puppets so this was amazing for me, just a small room of exhibition cases but a great insight into the art form when there aren’t performances on
- Namba Yasaka Shrine
- Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street
- This was cool but we knew we were going to do Kappabashi in Tokyo later so didn’t buy anything
- Hozenji
- Dinner: Oretachino-curry Ramen Koji Labo Osaka-namba
- Didn’t queue
- Sells curry and ramen, ordered on a vending machine
- The world’s largest serving of green onions ever seen, completely amazing
- Small place where you can watch them cooking, they filled up a giant rice cooker with a spray hose from across the kitchen and I’ve thought about it ever since
Day 6: Osaka 31,365 steps - National Museum of Art
- We planned to do the Nakanoshima Museum of Art afterwards but it only had a Monet exhibit and no permanent collection which didn’t appeal to us at the time, so we skipped it and the nearby rose garden and went to Osaka Castle instead
- Osaka Castle (just the grounds, didn’t go in) and Hokoku Shrine
- Osaka Tenmangu
- Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street
- Tsuyuten Jinja (Ohatsu Tenjin)
- Umeda Sky Building
- There was a popup video game store at the Parco in Shinsaibashi which we popped into
- Lunch: BUTAGOYA Tenjinbashi
- Didn’t queue or plan this, just wandered in when we saw the signs outside
- Pork Donburi that was really flavourful, really good, very filling and cheap
- Also had unlimited kimchi
- Dinner: konbini snacks in the hotel as we were doing laundry
Day 7: Osaka 26,393 steps - Tower of the Sun
- National Museum of Ethnology
- Japan Folk Crafts Museum
- Kuromon Ichiba Market
- Nipponbashi
- Shinsekai
- Dinner: OKO Fun Okonomiyaki Bar
- Queued to order for ten or so minutes, then went inside and sat and waited for food - just one person runs the whole show so service can be slow but that was fine by us as it had a good vibe and comfortable sofas
- Vegetarian okonomiyaki place where you can pick different vegetable portions, massive portions even when ordering the medium and very tasty
- You prepare drinks yourself from a very wide selection of options (like you could be making cocktails there) which felt completely alien to me as I feel like brits would definitely abuse that system… (felt like if I had gone here age 20 I would’ve served myself a tall glass of something straight up and never made it home)
Day 8: Day trip to Nara 29,596 steps - Travel to Nara (we arrived about 9 I think)
- Nakatanidou Mochi store
- Nara Park to feed the deer and visit Kasuga Taisha, Meoto Daikokusha and Ki’i Shrine
- for feeding the deer definitely head into the park a bit and find a chill looking one, we saw some people getting swarmed by the cracker stands
- We walked past Todai-ji but decided not to pay to go in (a lot of the larger temples and shrines in Nara had an entry fee which we decided not to go for)
- Naramachi Toy Museum
- Back to Osaka
- Lunch: Tonkatsu Ganko Nara
- Queued about 20 minutes I think, but it felt like everywhere was busy and we needed a rest
- Tonkatsu place in a shopping arcade, was really nice
- Dinner: Hokkyokusei
- Omurice place with tatami mats where you sit on the floor
- We wanted to try omurice and were glad to do so, this was perfectly nice but not a highlight
Day 8: Travel to Kyoto 27,032 steps - Travel to Kyoto
- Kyoto Gyoen National Garden
- Shimogoryo Shrine

- Yata-dera

- Sawano cafe
- Checked into hotel
- Hotel onsen in the eve
- Lunch: Micasadeco & Cafe Kyoto
- We just walked past having heard about this from Eric Kim on instagram, we didn’t queue
- Souffle pancakes! They were great and very jiggly
- Dinner: Gyoza-dokoro Sukemasa
- We waited about 5 minutes to be seated
- Amazing and very flavourful gyoza, only one option on the menu really, extremely cheap
- Best gyoza of the trip imo, lovely and gingery
Day 9: Kyoto 25,187 - Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
- Got here at about half 8 and it was quite quiet, it was also raining which might have made it a bit quieter
- Nonomiya Shrine and Mikami Shrine
- Arashiyama Observation Deck
- No one else up here, amazing views even in the rain - the mist rising off the hills was incredible
- Arashiyama Monkey Park
- Arashiyama Arhat
- Seiryogi Temple
- Sagano Romantic Train
- Hotel onsen in the eve
- Lunch: Houzan
- Does soba noodles and tempura, really nice, lovely view over a garden while you eat
- We got there before opening so waited 5 minutes for them to set up, filled up pretty quick though
- It was a cold and rainy day but they had the aircon on so we were quite cold
- Dinner: Kyoto Ramen Lab
- Didn’t queue
- Massive bowls of delicious ramen and also a good selection of sides - we had fried squid and the best kimchi of my life
Day 10: Kyoto 32,175 - Fushimi Inari Taisha
- Arrived at half 8 and it was already quite busy at the bottom end
- Walked about half way up to an observation point and it was quieter after the first bit of this
- Higashiyama Jisho-ji (paid entry)
- Walked the Philosopher’s path (some of the shrines below were along the way, we also started at the northern end)
- Honen-in temple
- Otoyo Shrine
- Koun-ji Temple
- Kumano Nyakuōji-jinja Shrine
- Okazaki Shrine
- Yasaka Kōshin-dō Temple, plus area around this
- We got here at 2pm ish and it was almost unpleasantly busy - a very popular spot it seems!
- Kyoto Ryozen Gokoku-jinja Shrine
- Ninenzaka
- Kiyomizu-dera (paid entry)
- Hotel onsen in the eve
- Lunch: Gion Duck Noodles
- This was the only thing we queued a while for as we did really want to try it, we waited about 35 minutes
- They don’t do one in-one out, they seat the whole place at once. I think there’s about ten seats, so if there’s over ten people in front of you, you’ll wait for all of them to finish and for the staff to clear up before you get seated.
- Menu is in emoji which we honestly found more confusing than if it had been in Japanese
- I had the classic ramen and it was very delicious, my partner had the dipping ramen which I actually think was the better order here - it was amazing with this kind of berry sauce and then a broth
- A really great meal and I am glad we did queue for it, but also made me glad we’d been lucky not to do much queueing otherwise
- Dinner: Mister Gyoza
- Waited about 5 minutes to be seated
- Cheap and cheerful, very lovely gyoza and also great chicken karaage
Day 11: Travel back to Tokyo 21,068 steps - Shinkansen to Tokyo
- Took our bags to the hotel and were able to check in
- Tokyo Waterworks Historical Museum
- Brief stop in Akihabara to buy a game my partner had reconsidered
- Ikebukuro for a wander, including cinema Rosa, le bois Hiraki and Ike Sun Park
- Sunshine City
- We felt like we were running on empty a bit this day but ultimately I’m not sure Sunshine City was worth the trip - we felt a bit fatigued with shopping centres and this didn’t have much we hadn’t already visited. I think maybe we should have done some of the museums in Ueno park but not sure we would have enjoyed that since we were wrecked
- Dinner: Kamamaru in Nippori for Pizza as the tiredness really hit us this day. It was great pizza though.
Day 12: Tokyo 19, 526 steps - Otori-jinja shrine
- Meguro Parasitological Museum
- Mori Art Museum plus a bit of a walk round Roppongi
- Akasake Hikawa Shrine
- Toranomon Kotohiragu
- Kikuchi Kanjitsu Memorial Tomo Museum for Kikuchi Biennale ceramics exhibition
- Dinner: Bird Land in Ginza for my partner’s birthday
- This was amazing, a real treat. We had the tasting menu with 8 skewers and other elements in between. Everything was delicious and it was so fun to watch them grilling, plus the service was attentive and friendly. Like they gave us a salad with tomatoes in and even the tomatoes blew our minds. One word of warning: the chicken is served a little pink, they obviously know what they are doing and it was juicy and incredible but as someone who grew up in the UK it was definitely a moment of adjustment before the first bite
- We thought it was good value for the experience but was obviously the most expensive meal of the trip (has a michelin star)
- Booked one month in advance
Day 13: Tokyo 31,610 steps - Yanaka Cemetery
- Ueno Park including Gojoten Shrine and Shinobazunoike Benten-do
- Sogenji Temple
- Kappabashi - I bought a knife and some plastic ramen
- Asakusa wandering
- Nakamise-dori street and Senso-ji
- Really busy! Extremely beautiful but very busy
- Hikan Inari-jinja Shrine
- Tokyo Sky Tree
- Lunch: Asakusa Chicken
- No queue
- Very cheap, extremely friendly staff
- The best chicken karaage of a trip with a lot of fried chicken
- Dinner: Burari in Nippori
- No queue
- Chicken ramen ordered through a vending machine
- Delicious, deeply flavoured ramen - probably the best of the trip
- Snacks: we also had baked goods from Higurashi bakery first thing (amazing) and a creme brulee sweet potato from Imo Pippi in Asakusa (delicious)
Day 14: flying home at like 6am from Haneda HIGHLIGHTS In terms of things to do, my highlights were the Ghibli Museum (honestly, it is magical), the folk art museums and ceramics exhibit at Memorial Tomo Museum, the Tower of the Sun (we thought it would be an interesting building with a viewing platform, so the interior took us completely by surprise and was so cool and fun), Sagano Romantic Train (it was windy and rainy so we were pretty much the only people in the outside car so could move around to follow the views, which were lovely), the Nara Toy Museum and wandering round Kappabashi and also the shrines and temples. Sawano cafe in Kyoto was also a real treat - we stopped in for a drink and the owner made us some adorable, delicate animals carved out of fruit, he was a lovely person.
In food terms, my favourite meals were at Birdland (Ginza, Tokyo), Burari (Nippori, Tokyo), Kameya (Shinjuku, Tokyo), Asakusa Chicken (Asakusa, Tokyo), Gyoza-dokoro Sukemasa (Kyoto) and Gion Duck Noodles (Kyoto).

2024.03.08 00:04 z18782 Cleaning header/footer text from OCR data
Hello! I have a collection of OCR text from about a million journal articles and would appreciate any input on how I can best clean it.
First, a bit about the format of the data: each article is stored as an array of strings where each string is the OCR output for each page of the article. The goal is to have a single large string for each article, but before concatenating the strings in these arrays, some cleaning needs to be done at the start and end of each string. Because we're talking about raw OCR output, and many journals have things like journal titles, page numbers, article titles, author names, etc. at the top and/or bottom of each page, and those have to be removed first.
The real problem, however, is that there is just so much variation in how journals do this. For example, some alternate between journal title and article tile at the top of each page with page numbers at the bottom, some alternate between page numbers being at the top and the bottom of each page, and the list goes on. (So far, I've identified 10 different patterns just from examining 20 arrays.) This is further complicated by most articles having different first and sometimes last pages, tables and captions, etc. Here are some examples:
# article title in caps followed by page number at the top of odd pages and page number followed by journal title in caps at the top of even pages, footnotes in bottom article_1 = [ 'AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IN CHINA Albert La Fleur and Edwin J. At this point, I could keep going to identify patterns, write some regex to detect what pattern is present, then clean accordingly. But I also wonder if there's a more general approach, like searching for some kind of regularity, either across pages or (more commonly) every other page, but I'm not quite sure how I should approach this task.
One thought was to use regex by first concatenating all the pages with some kind of delimiter, say, "##PAGE BREAK##", use a regex expression to look for and remove those regularities, then remove the delimiter, but I've been struggling to come up with anything general enough.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
P.S., I'm working in python.
