Hello I am really hoping someone out there might have some insight for me. Sorry in advance for the lengthy post!
I met a 30 year old man named peter 2 years ago when my husband and I travelled to Kenya for a service trip.. We planted garden towers and visited schools and villages and I got to know him throughout our two weeks there and my husband and I just really liked and respected him. After we came home I sponsored peter to attend some college courses and he helped me to facilitate some service projects in his village like providing groceries to some of the widows and sponsoring some of the girls to attend school. He’s a wonderful person from the very humblest of all circumstances. He is supporting his 7 younger siblings and his life is very very hard.
3 months ago I got a message from peter that his uncles wife had died in childbirth, and he was there at the hospital with the newborn. I have no idea where the father was - he wasn’t there and due to the polygamous nature of their community really doesn’t have anything to do with the children he fathers. I asked what would happen to the baby and he told me he was going to find a mother to take her and look after her.
Nova is now 3 months old and peter texted me this week that the family has decided to give her to HIM to raise once she is about a year old. (🤯) this basically means Peter’s mother (who is 65 and struggling to feed the 7 children already in her care) will raise her. Peter then said to me “if it’s possible please come adopt her!”
We talked at length about it and essentially he wants her to have a better future than being an underage polygamous bride with no education - which sadly is the typical fate for girls in their community but especially an orphan with no mother.
So that’s the background. I have no idea if it’s even possible to adopt a child from Kenya that is not residing in an orphanage - and especially a Maasai child. If there is anyone out there who has adopted from Kenya or another African country who would be willing to help me or point me to someone who can I would be so thankful! Thank you!

Honestly I don't know where to even start but recently some of my friends came up with the idea to have a dinner since we're graduating from school in a few weeks and they claimed they wanted to just see the entire friend group one last time before we all graduated.
One of them let's call her Laila was just bombarding the group chat and saying she's going to "cut everyone off" if they don't come which I thought was funny at the time but looking back was strange.
She told one of the girls who could not make it due to cramping that it was sad for her.....They kept reminding the group chat multiple times which I found weird because it was just a dinner.
They wanted to take a group picture outside and I was not thinking anything of it. The friend that was taking the picture started taking a video and said " say we're graduating" and then said " say friend (let's call her Emily) is getting married" and I was just taken aback and walked away from how loud it was.
Laila comes up to me with a camera and shouts "Emily's getting married it's real " like 18 times and my reaction was very confused and I just said really???? multiple times as I could not believe it. One of the girls pulls out a bridal sash out of her bag and that's when I realized it wasn't a joke.
I did not know she was even in a relationship either.
The next day we found out almost every single girl knew she was getting married besides six of us. We realized there must have been a second group chat where they pre planned the dinner and the announcement which is why they were acting hectic over it. We found out Emily has also been hiding photos and flowers/gifts.
And in the video you can clearly see me and the girls who did now know anything walk away as we thought it was a joke because who announces that outside a restaurant randomly. I'm convinced that since Emily is having her graduation ceremony soon, her fiance would be there and she wanted to break the news before we found out.
A friend of my mothers told me that she has seen photos of engagement rings months ago and her daughter (close with one of the girls that lives with Emily) showed them to her.
Also I need to add that after the announcement there was literally no explanation from Emily. She kept dodging any questions and clearly did not want to tell us anything.
I just feel so grossed out that I believed Emily was my close friend at one point and honestly I refuse to go her wedding because that's just so embarrassing to me.
I'm convinced she has something against us. Im just angry at the fact that many people outside of our friend group have been finding out from other people and she was closing off the other girls and herself from us finding out as if it was a secret when it was not. Emily’s mom has been telling people since January.
I'm surprised I even found out so late as so many other people have told me they found out months ago from rumors.
Should I attend her bridal events that are taking place in 2 months + wedding or no?

This is long I’m sorry.
For context: I an a dog trainer who has been running my own business since 2017. I have a certification and have worked with pretty much every behavior possible.
I applied to a job (group dog trainer) in mid-March that advertised $30-45/hr. Got a response from them very quickly and set up an interview. 1 week later I went to the first interview and they immediately asked me to come back for a second. 1 week later i attended the second interview. I was asked to give them a week for a decision. I was really excited at this point because the pay was better than any of the other options I saw out there and it was pretty much what I do now just without having to sell my services.
1 week later, I got an email asking if I could give them a month to revamp their training program. I didn’t mind because I had other interviews lined up and figured I could weigh my options.
2 weeks later I got an email promising a job offer in 24 hours.
72 hours later, I got an offer at $22/hr ($8-18 LESS than advertised). They also asked me if I’d be interested in working a second position with them at $13/hr since the position I applied for wasn’t full time. I’m not looking for full time and had told them this during my interviews.
I asked them some questions via email and they asked me to attend a THIRD interview with them to shadow this other position and they would answer my questions then.
I declined the other position and I haven’t heard back from them yet.
Am I crazy for thinking these are kinda red flags and I should be wary?

I know in today's February 2024 Watchtower article, the main focus is on how we can trust the governing body just as the Israelites could trust Moses. Other people can articulate the problems with that better than I can but what really caught my attention were paragraphs 15 and 16. Especially 16.
I have no problem with simplifying your life and getting rid of excess. But the example they give is taking it to the extreme. 'Robyn says: “We have lived in some very small spaces, often with no kitchen. And I had to sell a lot of equipment that I used for photography, a hobby I loved. That brought me to tears.' And what reward does she get for this sacrifice? "When working on theocratic assignments, we get a glimpse of how life will be in the new world... We have the satisfaction of being completely spent in support of the Kingdom.” So for all that sacrifice and heartache, she only gets a glimpse of a future paradise but a lifetime of exhaustion and unpaid work. How is that a life worth living.
But the main thing that got under my skin was paragraph 16 when it said "How else do we benefit when we keep following Jehovah’s guidance?" So already, without explicitly saying it, they are strongly hinting that what they are about to present is something a sincere believer should choose. Then it says, "[Marcia] was offered a four-year scholarship at a university. But I wanted to pursue spiritual goals. So I chose to attend a technical training school to learn a trade that would support me in my ministry." So why exactly couldn't she pursue the degree and do her ministry? If anything, the degree might help her more because it would give her greater odds of getting a well-paying job and not bouncing between multiple minimum wage gigs.
Now, I'm not one of those people who thinks a college degree is the end-all-be-all and that if you don't have one you're destined to eat ramen noodles every day until you die. I have my own gripes with the current tertiary education system and how ridiculous it is that you have to spend an extra 4 years of your life after legally mandated 12+ years of schooling just to be somewhat employable. Most jobs could easily give you 6 months to a year of training and have you functioning better than a recent college grad who knows nothing. But unfortunately, that's the system we currently live in and it's not changing anytime soon so we have to play by those rules.
Watchtower goes to the other extreme and actively discourages people from pursuing a degree if they so choose. They use anecdotes like the one above and try to make it look as if getting offered a scholarship is equivalent to being tempted to bow down to the devil. Of course, they will never outright ban it. It's like with beards. They never say no but they always put it in a negative light and if you decide to do it, be ready to be looked at as less spiritual. This is less extreme in some places but it's still generally true. How do they know that wasn't Jehovah's way of blessing Marcia so that she could support herself and donate more money? They basically shot themselves in the foot. Now she will most likely join the army of broke pioneers who can barely make ends meet and can barely scratch together two pennies to feed herself let alone give them money.
My question is: when will they stop demonizing college and let people do what they want to make a better future for themselves?

Edits: said guy bcz I have 0 male friends!! Hey! I hung out with this guy a few months ago. To preface he never called it a date, we just said we’re going to catch up, called me dude a lot etc. so I assumed he wanted to be homiez. We weren’t friends? I guess acquaintances in undergrad and hes actually in my graduate program (he’s starting now, I’m finishing it soon). Anyway we met up and chatted.. it was funny and fun because we have a baseline of kinda knowing one another. In undergrad we sat near one another and had a class where the prof had us do icebreakers/ we also were in a group project together.
Anyway after we hung out he reached out and we talked a bit. After that we stopped. I told him to hop on call of duty because we both play and he said yea but then said nah he’s good. He interacted with my socials for a bit but then stopped.
Still have his digits and still have his socials but should I try to be friends again with him? Or did he drift off because he wasn’t feeling it.. I must add he dated someone I also kinda knew in undergrad and she essentially told me to “back off” of him when we were first years. He mentioned her when we hung and how he broke up w her but I’m kinda thinking bout if that would make it awk. She might’ve thought I want him as more??

I signed for a new job/employer that I start in July. The plan is Cigna and I'm not too worried about having to go out of network for any care except maybe (worst case) for the 2026 surgery mentioned below. Pretty sure that's a future problem that I might be able to dodge when my spouse gets a new job with (hopefully) a different insurance provider at the end of 2024.
I'm feeling a lil gaslit by the benefits booklet which repeatedly says the HDHP's advantage is that it has higher deductibles and lower premiums. But later on the side-by-side of costs shows that the PPO actually has the higher deductible and out-of-pocket max (LITERALLY DOUBLE).
The consequence of a poor choice, even just for the 6-month period in 2024, seems like it could literally be in the thousands.
FYI, the benefits guide says that the out-of-pocket max and deductible operate on a calendar year basis (Jan-Dec). Which I guess means out of pocket max or deductible might not get hit for July-Dec... and then the same thing would happen again for the first 6 months (-ish) of 2025.
An important piece of info is that my prescription for one chronic condition (HIV) doesn't have a generic equivalent, is extremely expensive, and I'm pretty sure that switching meds is not possible or advisable. A 30-day supply is supposedly $5200. GoodRx only brings it down to like $4500. There's some other HIV-related costs like frequent specialist visits and twice per year procedures, which I'm hoping will mostly be counted as preventive care?
Last, I anticipate having an expensive-ish outpatient surgery (I think ~$15,000) in 2025. This one has potential to not be covered, not due to out-of-network, but let's run under the assumption that I can get it covered (meaning the choice of plan could make a big diff). And another surgery in 2026 that's inpatient and costs around $50K out-of-pocket, possibly more.
All of the initial numbers below are for family plan (individual is in parentheses in case splitting up my insurance from husband's makes sense). My spouse only uses preventive care + therapy.

Hi forgive me as this is my first Reddit post but I was hoping to get some feedback to solve an issue with my boyfriend (who doesn’t understand why this bothers me.)
Background info: we are both college students and attend universities directly next to each other that intermix often. We’ve been in a serious relationship for about 7 months now. We have a rule: to keep our time together less passive we alternate every week taking each other on dates. Finals season is upon us, and my finals are a lot more intense than his are (he would agree with me on this.) Last week after a 9 hour day of classes/meetings I still made an effort to take him out to a nice dinneget ice cream. This week, he made no effort to plan anything with me (despite his finals being essentially done.) One night I asked him if he’d like to spend some time together, he said that he was going out to our local college bar for drinks with some friends from class and I could come over to his after. Fast forward to after and he informs me that he met up alone with a girl from his class for drinks, this was their first time hanging out outside of class and he had a great time with her.
I know things have changed a lot in our generation but this set off alarm bells for me, especially considering he forgot to plan a date for us but still found time to meet up alone with another girl for drinks (also funnily at the place we had our first date.) He’s assuming I’m lacking trust in him, which isn’t true, I feel incredibly secure in our relationship but this feels to me more like an issue of respect.
TLDR: my boyfriend went out alone with a girl from class for drinks (their first time hanging out outside of this setting) and didn’t plan a date he was supposed to take me on.
Am I in the wrong here? He says I shouldn’t be worried because I should have more trust in the relationship, but is this more of an issue of respect? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m going to share this with him after.

Hi Everyone! I am graduating High School this month, and I will be attending a University to do my flight training, and I wanted to ask- what scholarships are worth applying to and are open currently?

I returned to photography a couple of years ago and actually had never used a digital camera so I’ve had a lot to catch up tech wise. I actually started using Snapseed very early on and I’ve stuck with it. I actually find the quality really good and it’s very convenient. I do a lot of test shoots for good agencies and had no complaints and even had editorial printed from it. There’s obviously a few things it doesn’t cover. It might not be PC to say but occasionally you do need to trim a girls waist a little. It can be done on Snapseed but you can’t really do the body without effecting face. So basically can anyone recommend best app for body shaping. Don’t mind paying small monthly fee if it’s good.

I am a well-educated man, thanks to a great father and the only son, no brothers or sisters. We were a mid family (not too rich), but again, I lived and enjoyed everything in this life. Thanks to Habibi, my dad(رحمة الله عليه). He was so fit and so young, but suddenly, out of nowhere he died because of Heart Attack. Secondly, I was giving her lots of money cuz she is my mom so I deal with heart, no laws, or anything just to see her happy and feeling good without any worries about anything in life and when I told her with all respect and kindness to take care about her money which is 99% is mine (I mean nothing, till death I'll be grateful for my parents) she got annoyed and said it's none of your business so I left silently. Thirdly, when I felt that the responsibility more and more especially in such economic situation in Egypt I travelled to KSA so I can guarantee getting her anything she wants, I swear to God I was working 24/7 for her and because I am an ambitious man with big goals and then I discovered that instead of saving money for both of us she is wasting it with her friends, she is pleased as long as she is the one who is spending money in the group and that's why she is is the main character between her friends (Her only son's Hardworking is in the trash without any problem!) again when I faced her just to be more aware that no-one is going to have our back she used the same method again and again. After only one month of this call I find out that she called everyone (My dad's friends, my uncles and even the neighbours) to tell them He (Me) is not treating me well he is wasting my money and not giving me my all money!!!! I got thousands of calls my people cannot realize or believing (there's something wrong as they said), what made me sad about that is My father's reputation (I swear to God I don't care about myself as long as I cared about my father)
I left my job at KSA after only 9 Months and get back to Egypt to find out a lot of things changed

Adding my fingerprints, too!!! She is not done yet, During these two months she came to take her (قايمه) dealing with me as I am her husband, not her son!!!! She even told me your father wrote an amount of Gold to me I want it!! I gave her (القايمه كلها) just to make sure my father resting in peace. Now she is married and living her life as she didn't have a son before.
Those are my questions (I am I wrong?):

I checked the rules and hope that question will be fine. So, I came to the US (NC) a bit more than 6 month ago. Got a US license in last November. Have 10+ years of foreign license, 35 yo. The current payment for the insurance is ~$430 per month for 50/100. No incidents, violations etc. Price breakdown shows that car insurance is about 40%, all other is my personal insurance. Checked today (first 6 month of insurance passed) and… the rate is the same (+-$20). As for me it sounds insane, but few insurance agents I spoke with told me “yeah that is NC and first 3 years you will have crazy rates”. And I actually checked a progressive calculator with 12+ month of experience and it shown me… even bigger payment.
So my question is: the situation is the same across all states? Is anywhere better? All ratings show that NC is one of the cheapest states for insurance, but with all that digits I don’t know what to say. I mean seriously, I have some freedom of moving between states (AL, FL, SC, GA maybe) with my job (I have working visa) and because my wife will also got a license soon (and for her it will be a real first time) maybe it will be financially reasonable to move to another state instead of paying 10k per year for car insurance for us. Or that hell is everywhere (how people can afford it then?..)

This is kind of a long one so I appreciate anyone who reads it.
This part might be unrelated but last week, I wasn’t allowed to use my cash card to pay my Apple credit card after months and months of doing so with no issues. I was told the transactions were fraudulent and there was no way for me to approve the transaction. Support, and the manager they escalated to, were completely useless and just kept saying they weren’t allowed to tell me anything further and there’s nothing else I can do.
Fast forward a few days and my account suddenly gets hit with a barrage of fraudulent transactions, the majority of which were blocked but one went through. I never even use this card, I get my paychecks deposited here then I use it to pay off the credit card that I actually use on a daily basis. It’s possible it was some kind of security breach but I only have used this card through Apple Pay or Walmart Pay so I highly doubt it was a skimmer or somebody taking a picture of the information.
I tried disputing the one that went through last night around 9pm but it wouldn’t let me since it was pending. I locked the card (we’ll call it card 1) and just ordered a replacement (card 2) via the manage card options. I wasn’t given any digital version of card 2 to use, I just had to wait the 1-2 weeks until it arrives physically. It still showed the locked card 1 in my cashapp account.
Then today, the fraudulent transaction clears so I dispute it and it had me follow the prompts to report the card as stolen now. The prompts include ordering a card, so I followed them assuming it would recognize I had already ordered a replacement. Nope! I got charged twice (for card 2 and now card 3). Card 3 gave me instant access which I’m thankful for. Now cashapp refuses to refund because “card 2 was stolen.” I sent them the exact screenshot showing I had reported my card as stolen via disputing a transaction that occurred on card 1, and my account only ever showed card 1 still, and that I had no way to even report card 2, but they’re telling me there’s nothing they can do as far as a refund.
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? If you asked me a couple weeks ago, I would’ve recommended Cash App with flying colors but now I feel like I can’t get support for any issues because support will just misunderstand for 20 minutes then tell me there’s nothing else they can say.
