2024.05.18 23:29 PuzzledAd4865 My review of the entire 90s anime

I've just finished a full rewatch of the Viz dub including the movies and specials, having watched a mix of the OG English dub + some of the sub as a child, but never in order all the way through. Here is my review no one asked for:
Classic: Great intro to the characters, loved it when the plot was somewhat moving, and the relationship between the guardians was really well developed. I found the Jadeite/Nephrite arcs really dragged at points, however once the Rainbow Crystal arc rolled around things really get going. I wish we could have seen a bit more flirtation/romance between Mamoru and Usagi. The finale was simply stunning and emotional, bringing me to tears.
Favourite filler episode: "Love and Chased: Luna's Worst Day Ever"
Favourite plot episode: "The Shining Silver Crystal: The Moon Princess Appears"
Special mention: "Usagi's Eternal Wish: A Brand New Life"
Sailor Moon R: I quite enjoyed the Makai Tree arc, however as above I found it a bit of a missed opportunity with Mamoru/Usagi and romance. Once again, the beginning of the season was overall a bit rough. And Chibiusa... while her behaviour was understandable it wasn't enjoyable to watch. And the less said about the break-up arc the better. The Black Moon Clan were pretty cool though, and Chibiusa definitely improved as the season went on.
Favourite filler episode: "Venus Minako's Nurse Mayhem"
Favourite plot episode: "Saphir Dies: Wiseman's Trap"
Special mention: "Usagi's Crisis: The Tiara Stops Working"
Sailor Moon S: I mean what can I say that hasn't been said before? The peak of the series - from the first episode you feel the raised stakes and improved production values. The Outer Senshi steal every scene they're in, the pure heart crystals format adds an emotional character driven layer to even the monster of the week episodes. The Death-Busters make hilarious but compelling villains, and the Hotaru arc is utterly captivating. Chibiusa is also handled far better - her friendship with Hotaru is her at her best.
Best filler episode: "Coldhearted Uranus: Makoto in Danger"
Best plot episode: "The Shining Shooting Star: Saturn and the Messiah"
Special mention: "The Death of Uranus and Neptune: The Talismans Appear"
Sailor Moon SuperS: Now I heard everyone hates this one, and honestly it wasn't as bad as I expected. The animation and music are gorgeous, and the slice of life comedic episodes are mostly done really well. I also love the villains, especially Fish's Eye. However I do find the focus on Chibiusa grating at times (although still better than R!) and Pegasus/Helios... eh. The worst crime for me is no Outers - why?? I really felt their absence, and I think having Hotaru aroudn could have made Chibiusa stuff a bit more compelling. Overall I enjoyed this season for what it was, but it did drag at points.
Best filler episode: "Storm of Love: Minako's Grand Two-Timing Plan"
Best plot episode: "Dreams Forever: Fill the Heavens with Light"
Special mention: "Shadow of Evil: The Trio's Last Chance"
Sailor Moon Stars: Ok, so this one was back with a bang - the Outers are back, and the stakes are higher than ever. The Nehelenia arc in this season is pretty much peak Sailor moon. Then the Galaxia arc - I enjoyed the Starlights (well I mostly enjoyed Seiya) and it was interesting to add a different dynamic to the group. Sailor Aluminium Siren and Crow were two of my overall favs, and I liked that we were back to dramatic high stakes like in S. The end was beautiful, and I may have shed a tear.
Best filler episode: "A Night Alone Together: Usagi in Danger"
Best plot episode: "Usagi's Love: The Moonlight Illuminates the Galaxy"
Special mention: "Night of Destiny: The Sailor Guardians' Ordeals"
I loved all of the movies and specials - the R movie and Ami's First Love are the peak of the entire series animation wise for me.
My rankings of the seasons: 1. S 2. Stars 3. Classic 4. SuperS 5. R
My rankings of the movies: 1. R 2. S 3. SuperS
So those are my thoughts! Don't know what I'm going to do with myself now - read the manga or watch Crystal?! Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the series too :)

2024.05.18 23:27 DimiBayern Rockstar Games Launcher problem

Hey all! I've recently had to re-install my windows and wanted to download my RDR2 via RGL. However, I've had some issues:
First: When installing RGL, and the Rockstar icon shows up, the white line that goes around the logo (basically the loading screen), gets stuck. Fine, I managed to fix that by turning Virus threat protection + Firewall off. That is sorted.
Second: When I start downloading RDR2, the downloading itself is messed up. It starts normal, however, what I notice is, the speed will drop to 0 KB/s from 5-10 MB/s, stay at 0, then go back to 5-10 MBs. That's not normal and only happens on RGL. I have no issues with my connection.
Third: At some point during download, like, let's say about 65-70%, the download goes red, like some error happened and I've to press "Retry", and it resumes normally. However, download size changes, going more than the usual 119,03GB (or less, to like 109GB).
Fourth: When it FINALLY downloads the game, I can't launch it. I click "Play", nothing happens. I go to settings in order to verify integrity and fix the obvious missing files during the botched download, however when I press RDR2, the Rockstar Launcher freezes and RDR2 properties don't open for like 20 seconds, and when they finally do open, I can't click on anything.
Anyone else having this problem? I want to play the game that I spent money on and it's a shame I can't.

2024.05.18 23:26 Tesa_Tesanovic1988 Making the shift to a decentralized and open innovation model

In today’s evolving and competitive landscape, the value of innovation is shifting from the traditional closed systems approach to a more open, decentralized, and community-driven approach. Paul Lalovich and Tesha Teshanovich from Agile Dynamics outline what is driving the trend, its implications for organizations, and how leaders can successfully operate at the forefront of the shift.
Innovation transcends the mere conceptualization of fresh ideas; it is the actionable process of enhancing existing products or conjuring entirely new offerings. While there is a strong correlation between R&D and innovation – with the former serving as a wellspring for pioneering thoughts – the journey from groundbreaking research to practical utility can be intricate and protracted.
However, it’s worth noting that innovation isn't solely tethered to structured R&D. It can spontaneously arise from sheer curiosity, a spark of inspiration, or even the simple act of refining or tweaking existing methodologies.
Firms might invest in R&D to catalyze innovation, but they can also harness external advancements – referred to as ‘spillovers’. After all, groundbreaking knowledge isn't always the exclusive domain of its creators, making external inspirations invaluable.
Emerging from a robust foundation of innovation, soft power presents tangible advantages. Leaders in technology often establish benchmarks that others deem beneficial to adopt. As a result, global standards lean favorably toward those pioneers. Moreover, countries recognized for their innovative acumen become prime territories for patent filings. These innovation hubs magnetize not just domestic but international investments and capital.
Perhaps the most profound testament to their soft power is the allure they hold for top-tier talents. For instance, Silicon Valley has evolved into a global nexus, drawing in exceptional minds from the realms of information, communication, and digital technologies. Such concentrations of talent can significantly influence a nation’s trade dynamics.

Tech monopolies slow down innovation

In the arena of global economic dominance, competition emerges as the cornerstone, propelling nations to the forefront of innovation and growth. While Chinese strategies appear to have adapted, embracing the dynamism of competitive markets, the United States stands at a crossroads. Some of its tech behemoths promote their size and market leadership as pivotal for cutting-edge innovation.
Yet, it is crucial to discern the nature of this innovation and whose interests it truly serves. Does it prioritize shareholder returns, or is there a broader, national interest at play? As smaller, agile firms emerge, emphasizing true boundary-pushing innovation, one must ponder: Is the spirit of unbridled competition – a force that once fueled the American economy – being overshadowed by the looming giants?
In the nuanced interplay between governmental oversight and market forces, recent actions within China's technology sector provide a captivating study of regulatory boundaries. This phenomenon, aptly termed ‘de-tycoonification’, captures a deliberate effort to harmonize enterprise innovation with centralized checks.
A leading digital commerce platform in China encountered regulatory attention. The swift determination that its practices were anti-competitive, accompanied by a significant financial penalty, symbolizes a broader intent to redefine market paradigms. Prompt official communique following these events conveys a clear perspective: monopolistic behaviours can inhibit the holistic evolution of a market-based economy.
This stance also emphasizes that thoughtful regulations, rather than restricting growth, might actually serve as pillars to stabilize and nurture it. The regulatory web further ensnared another major digital entity in China, underscoring the principle that technological ingenuity should operate within established ethical and legal frameworks. Such internal checks within China challenge certain dominant narratives in global tech centres.
The notion that maintaining a robust market stature acts as a shield against global tech adversaries comes under scrutiny. The introspective regulatory steps within China necessitate a broader re-evaluation of such assumptions.
The tech landscape today is unmistakably marked by the towering presence of Big Tech, but what underlies this dominance might point towards a concerning reduction in competitive intensity. For two decades, the profits raked in by American tech behemoths have remained unparalleled, with market valuations suggesting this trend is expected to continue, if not amplify, in the coming years.
Such sustained, sky-high profitability isn't typical in a genuinely competitive market. In such a setting, rivals and newcomers usually exert downward pressures, ensuring no single entity retains an overwhelming edge for extended periods. The tech industry's trajectory further points towards a rising penchant for consolidation. This is evidenced by the substantial acquisitions of budding companies by the tech titans.
Data sourced from Mergermarket underscores an uptick in acquisition activity by these colossal tech firms, particularly post-2010. The symbiotic relationship between persistent high profits and a trend toward industry concentration suggests that the tech market might be veering away from the vibrant competitive arena it once was.

Cardwell’s law

The tech landscape’s evolution, in its relationship with innovation, is witnessing a palpable shift in entrepreneurial motivation and vision. Historically, the fervour of pioneering something transformative, encapsulated in the ‘moonshot thinking’, drove entrepreneurs. This audacious spirit envisioned groundbreaking entities akin to the tech luminaries of the late 20th and early 21st century. Yet, today’s entrepreneurial aspirations seem more tempered.
Instead of fostering ambitions of building the next revolutionary tech empire, there’s a growing inclination towards securing an acquisition by an existing tech colossus. This shift in sentiment dims the likelihood of a new tech juggernaut rising to challenge the incumbent titans. Post the era of computer-centric, web-driven, and smartphone-related innovations, a cloud of uncertainty looms over the emergence of new tech powerhouses.
Notably, the promising technological domains of the upcoming decade – be it autonomous vehicles with their exorbitant R&D costs, virtual or augmented reality's significant development expenditures, the data intensity of artificial intelligence, or drones and the Internet of Things with their challenging profit margins – present formidable entry barriers.
These hurdles, combined with a changing entrepreneurial landscape, cast a shadow on the future dynamism of tech innovation. Cardwell's elucidation on the patterns of technological evolution offers a poignant lens through which to view the current landscape dominated by Big Tech.
Donald Stephen Lowell Cardwell’s seminal work from 1972 suggests that technological vigor within societies is not an enduring flame, but a fleeting burst of brilliance. Within the European context, as one nation's innovative energy began to wane, another would rise, ensuring a consistent relay of progress across the continent.
Visualize this relay of innovation as a torch, brilliant yet intense. Historically, regions such as Northern Italy, Southern Germany, Spain, and Portugal, and later Holland, Britain, the United States, and Germany, took turns in holding this torch, leading the march of innovation. Yet, no single society clung to this leadership for extended durations. The relay ensured that as one nation's innovation diminished, another took up the mantle, propelling the collective forward.
This phenomenon, coined as ‘Cardwell’s Law’ by Joel Mokyr, posits that when left in isolation, a society’s technological creativity is but a brief spark. Over time, conservatism’s stifling grip, intent on preserving existing structures of power and privilege, often curtails this innovative drive.
This is where the analogy becomes particularly relevant for the Big Tech landscape. In today’s digital age, a few colossal entities dominate, much like the leading nations of old Europe. Yet, as these tech giants solidify their positions, they risk becoming victims of the very conservatism Mokyr speaks of.
Instead of being conduits for continual innovation, their sheer dominance and entrenched positions could lead to a stagnation in technological creativity. As they grow in size and influence, there is an increasing tendency to preserve the status quo, which inadvertently suppresses the innovative spark found in smaller, more agile entities.

Decentralization and open innovation

In the contemporary milieu characterized by the overwhelming dominance of Big Tech monopolies, the paradigms of decentralized innovation and open innovation emerge as potentially transformative alternatives.
The concept of distributed strategy borrows from nature, suggesting that in the same manner that organisms such as trees maximize their efficiency by creating multiple self-similar structures like leaves instead of solely relying on a single core trunk, businesses too need to shift their focus from purely scaling their core processes to nurturing multiple iterative strategies at the organizational peripheries. This can be encapsulated in the mantra of ‘Think Local, Act Global’.
In essence, companies must attune to the nuanced demands and opportunities of each local market, while simultaneously integrating these learnings into a broader global strategy. This is particularly evident in industries undergoing rapid transformation; for instance, the automotive industry's evolution from merely selling cars to offering comprehensive mobility solutions, a shift that is predicted to significantly alter its revenue structure by 2035.
In parallel, in our data-driven age, there is an increasing realization that the sheer volume of data is less crucial than its meaningful interpretation. Organizations need to pivot from prioritizing data accumulation to developing advanced algorithms capable of drawing insights from fragmented, patchy datasets. In the rapidly shifting landscape of today's global business environment, numerous established multinational corporations find themselves at a perplexing crossroads.
The crux of their predicament stems from a foundational dilemma: how to juxtapose traditional scale-driven strategies with the emergent imperative of Distributed strategies. To dissect this conundrum, one must appreciate the inherently divergent organizational philosophies underpinning scale and distributed strategies. Transitioning from a scale-centric model to a distributed-oriented one is not merely about implementing a series of organizational modifications, no matter how profound.
The shift demands a comprehensive reimagining of the organizational ethos and operational mechanics. Moreover, it is a fallacy to view these strategies as mutually exclusive. In actuality, they exist on a continuum, each holding its unique value. The challenge for modern enterprises lies in striking an optimal balance between harnessing the benefits of scale and the agility of Distributed strategies. Regrettably, the journey to this equilibrium is riddled with pitfalls, and many companies, even with their vast resources and global reach, have faltered in this endeavor.
Contrary to scale-centric entities that depend on static assets, with streamlined yet inherently slower supply chains, Distributed organizations harness networks characterized by adaptability and continuous transformation. These networks are primed for swiftly addressing specific local requirements and seizing niche market prospects.
Such frameworks incorporate a blend of proprietary micro-production facilities, possibly utilizing innovations like 3D printing; leasing assets from providers offering asset-on-demand services; and coordinating flexible ecosystems of regional digital collaborators. The overarching aim is twofold: continuously devise innovative solutions tailored for local clientele and escalate them to various markets with optimal speed.
Distributed-oriented organizations prioritize decentralization, contrasting with the top-down hierarchies commonly seen in scale-driven entities. Within these structures, decision-making isn't confined to a centralized corporate core. Instead, considerable authority is delegated to customer-centric teams positioned away from the primary headquarters. This design fosters agility, allowing for a rapid response to localized demands and new opportunities.
Some multinational corporations have observed marked improvements in their performance metrics after such decentralization. They empowered regional leaders with financial oversight, decision-making rights, streamlined communication channels to the central office, and enhanced access to market analytics.
Another trend, seen in the case of an appliance industry giant, involves an even more radical shift. This entity introduced a unique organizational framework aimed at minimizing the distance between the enterprise and its customer base. In a bold move, an entire level of middle management was eliminated, redistributing power to numerous newly-formed, semi-independent, customer-aligned business segments. These units operate in synergy, linked by a unified digital platform.
Further reading: Knowledge and venture capital as a driver of innovation.
Meanwhile, ‘Open Innovation’ offers a complementary model, championing a departure from insular corporate research and development approaches. Instead, it advocates for the amalgamation of external insights, be they from academia, startups, or independent innovators, into the innovation process. This synergistic approach addresses the often-criticized inertia inherent in large tech monopolies, promoting a more dynamic and collaborative innovation ecosystem.
Both these paradigms, however, necessitate a significant cultural shift within organizations, demanding a more flexible, adaptive, and outward-looking ethos to truly harness their potential in countering the inertia often associated with tech giants.
The rise of open innovation, propelled by reduced communication costs and advancements in memory and computation capabilities, has ushered in significant changes in market dynamics and societal interactions. Unlike the traditionally centralized, firm-driven innovation models, open innovation champions a decentralized, peer-based approach that emphasizes intrinsic motivation and societal benefits.
Indeed, the literature has delved into the nature of these peer innovation communities, understanding their social structures and intricacies.
However, the repercussions of this shift towards open innovation on established and emerging firms remain inadequately explored. Current organizational and strategic theories don't fully encapsulate the nuances of community-driven innovation. Despite the transformative potential of open innovation, its influence on mainstream organizational and strategic discourses has been somewhat muted.
As we progress, it becomes imperative to develop a more comprehensive understanding of firms in this new context, addressing the interaction between traditional organizational structures and emerging community-based innovation paradigms.

Conclusion

In an evolving landscape where tasks are increasingly modular and knowledge about solutions becomes more widespread, the traditional closed systems of innovation shift towards open, community-driven models. The implications are profound: we can no longer rely solely on conventional understandings of innovation rooted in cost efficiency, control mechanisms, and external incentives.
As innovation gets embedded in a spectrum ranging from strictly internal processes to open community collaborations, our conceptualization of firms and their boundaries need revisiting. This doesn’t negate the value of traditional models, but it requires a hybrid approach where both internal and open strategies coexist.
A pivotal question arises: under what circumstances should firms toggle between these different modes of innovation? The answer, it appears, lies in understanding the nature of the product and the distribution of problem-solving knowledge.
For products that are inherently integrated and where specialized knowledge is centralized, the conventional in-house R&D model, bolstered by a strong innovation-centric culture, remains relevant. Here, innovation is typically cocooned within the firm's boundaries, spanning from distinct functional divisions to intricate, ambidextrous designs.
However, when a product can be broken down into modular components and the requisite knowledge is dispersed, the limitations of a closed innovation system become evident. In these contexts, the power dynamics of innovation are reshaped by the principles of openness, collaborative sharing, intrinsic motivation, and community engagement.
The challenge, then, for modern enterprises is to discern when to internalize and when to externalize, ensuring that they harness the best of both worlds while navigating the complex terrain of innovation. In today’s evolving and competitive landscape, the value of innovation is shifting from the traditional closed systems approach to a more open, decentralized, and community-driven approach. 1. First and foremost, if you ever thought the difficulty was too easy, try out the new Brutal mode. Bosses here have bigger health pools, higher levels, and deal more damage, which I personally dislike. However, every boss now has a new move and an adjusted AI. I swear you'll never forget the Vincent fight!
  2. If you were struggling with initial resource farming, it has been tweaked. You will get much more wood and stone from a single node, allowing you to get to battles faster, especially if you drink worker blood!
  3. Horses also got a small yet important change: they now consume easily obtainable fiber instead of waterskins, making it easier to manage mounts early on.
  4. Speaking of consumables, they now last 60 minutes. Less crafting is always better, right?
  5. Another important Quality of Life addition is that after you consume a potion, you will not consume the bottle itself. Even less crafting, yay!
  6. Now you can build advanced stations. These process items faster than normal ones, have more inventory space, and more recipes. You can unlock them by defeating specific V Blood enemies.
  7. A new era of storage has arrived with both small and large storage for literally everything, from scrolls to fish. Place these next to your stations or build a storage room for all resources at once.
  8. This feature shines even more with the addition of hotkeys that allow you to sort your inventory or quickly transfer everything by simply pressing the "E" key.
  9. Another huge addition is inventory highlighting. It's so much easier now to see what can be transferred to a specific storage or what you can add to an existing stack!
  10. A new source of valuables now travels around the map in the form of traveling carts. These are guarded by several soldiers but are totally worth it. Carts come in different variants and follow the same routes, so you can farm them from time to time.
  11. The new zone awaits for an infinite challenge. It does not have any base plots but offers world events instead. These events require you to beat two spots with enemies and one boss fight, which come in two difficulties and reward you with powerful weapons, jewels, and shards.
  12. Speaking of shards, this is a new currency which you can spend on weapons, summon enemies in the new summoning circle, or unlock passive buffs.
  13. There are 18 passive buffs, all unlockable once you defeat General Elena the Hollow and build an Altar of Stygian Awakening. Each buff is permanent, but the cost is a lot of shards from the new zone. I recommend the passive that boosts damage against V Blood enemies by 10%!
  14. New forged items progression makes your weapons much more viable. You can enhance your favorite ancestral weapon with various regular weapons and increase its level by 3 up to 26.
  15. For those seeking rare gear and weapons, V Rising offers 12 new legendary weapons with unique effects and solid stats. These can be dropped by high-level bosses or occasionally appear instead of purple weapons when you buy them for 1500 greater shards. These look really cool!
  16. If you want a new battle experience, try out two new weapons: a longbow and a whip. I'm currently running with a longbow on Brutal and it's amazing!
  17. The old magic progression was kind of awkward and limited, so now you can choose your own path by getting spell points and spending them as you wish. You can always reset your choice for free at the Altar of Recollection.
  18. To make your build even more flexible, check out the new sets of armor. They cover different passives and will supplement your playstyle.
  19. If you like a specific piece of gear, you can keep it in your fashion slot regardless of what you wear. And definitely try recoloring your gear!
  20. Spells heavily rely on jewels, which grant some awesome effects. The new tier 4 with 4 effects means even more power for your favorite setup.
  21. To spice it up even more, the game offers a new blood type: Draculin. This is particularly great in the new zone where you might want to bite more enemies.
  22. If you're a fan of shapeshifting, the new spider form will please you. Try hiding underground for a surprise attack without fear of the sun! Nice!
  23. If you remember bags from Gloomrot, forget about them. Now you can craft and equip only one bag at a time. The better the bag, the more it offers! More storage slots, more silver to carry, and even more resource yield! Awesome!
  24. Soul Shards were also reworked in the latest update. You cannot keep them indefinitely anymore, as they decay over time. To restore them, you must farm the new area.
  25. V Bloods have undergone a rework in terms of rewards to reflect new stations, spell points, and craftables.
  26. To make your battles more controllable, the devs have added new aim assist.
  27. New bosses were added as well, including the mighty Dracula himself. I won't spoil the fight, but be prepared for the toughest battle you’ve ever seen in V Rising!
  28. All veils now have a leech effect to balance them out. The difference will be in additional effects and jewel features.
  29. Dying now reduces your blood pool by 10 percent instead of losing your precious blood completely. This is a huge change and a must for Brutal mode, where you will die a lot!
  30. And finally, a couple of achievements! I love them! They give you a decent goal to achieve, nice!

Conclusion

2024.05.18 23:25 ExpressionGeneral418 Why am I now a wreck when I wanted this all along?

First of all, I’d like to preface this story with a piece I wrote in my journal 2 months ago while still in my relationship.
Here it is:
I’m almost 30M, and wonder how you would deal with this situation?
Backstory: I didn’t have my first girlfriend or even sex until age 20. I was very sheltered when I was younger and shy. I also moved several times so never got the chance to meet girls from social circles. I had almost a 2 year long distance relationship from age 20-22 (seeing each other in person only a few times a year). Well that didn’t work out and it devastated me. I did truly love that girl and she was also my first so it took 3 years to get over.
In that time following the relationship, I slept with more than 10 people, gained experience, and eventually found another girlfriend in person at age 25. That ended at age 26, but was off and on until age 27. It ended for good reason, because it was a tumultuous relationship with a lot of fun, but also arguments. She was super attractive which made it hard to let her go even though I knew it had to be done.
Following that relationship, I yet again worked on myself, dated and slept around, and eventually met my current girlfriend midway through age 28. It was one of those situations where you start out just hanging out and eventually see each other every week… then the question of “what are we happens”… I went along with it even though my eyes were still peeled.
Well now, I’m almost 30, a few months away and I’m scared. A part of me feels like I missed a part of my youth and I’ll never find that stunner I’ve always looked for. Being sheltered all my life and not meeting anyone via social circle messes with me emotionally. I’ve dated beautiful woman, but it’s not like I can change time and go back to 25 again and date around 20 year olds… right?
I also moved to a completely different state and started a new life 2 years ago. But every day I think about my last relationship and the life I used to live in that state. “The good old days” I like to say. I have a new life now and good situation, but a part of me feels lost.
That’s what I wrote back in March. I knew I had a good situation, a very stable relationship and job, but I almost felt like I was still unfulfilled. Mostly because I never really experienced the kind of girls that truly interest me I guess? I hate to sound superficial, but if you read below it will make further sense. It wasn’t all about looks. While she was nice and sweet, she was rather boring and didn’t banter with me.
So fast forward the story to today, my recent ex broke up with me a few weeks ago. We had been dating about a year and a half.
I met her about a year and a half after that toxic relationship to a really manipulative, yet attractive girl I talked about above. This new relationship was the complete opposite, almost to the point of being cringey. She was really loving but it was almost overwhelming. She also was not as atractive as my last gf in terms of looks. Not unattractive by any means, but I certainly didn’t feel super proud walking around with her or introducing her to people. For much of the early part of meeting this new girl, I did still constantly think of the toxic ex and compare, but I was ready for something new and thought I was so far removed from the last relationship - I went along with it.
Anyway, Eventually she asked if I would be her bf at about the 3 month point after meeting. At first I was apprehensive of the idea because I wasn’t sure about committing and if I wanted to keep “searching.” I got to the point that I was done with hunting as I had tried tirelessly to find someone for over a year. She was a great girl but I wasn’t sold on a full on relationship. Instead of being excited to be official like I was in past relationships, with her I was hoping for more a fwb situation like it was the first 3 months. But I decided to go along with it. I told her I still wanted to be able to approach or work on social skills with other girls even if just plutonicly. I didn’t do that and did commit. Fast forward another several months and the I love you statement came up. I wasn’t entirely sure about how I felt but I again went along with it, even though I didn’t actually feel it at at the time.
This gf was a very loving, loyal, committed gf, and did anything for me. Unfortunately I didn’t really find her incredibly magnetizing. She was cute, but not crazy attractive in my eye. Like I mentioned above, I didn’t feel that proud feeling when going out.
I found that taking pictures with her also made me unsure. The first couple weeks of hanging out we never took pics. And then I took a picture with her and looked at it and was repulsed. When she would send me pictures of her with with her family, I didn’t like what she sent. Maybe she’s just not photogenic and actually good in person, but whenever she would send me a photo or FaceTime me I’d get turned off.
Also, the fact that she was so wholesome, it didn’t allow for much banter. Conversations were mostly plutonic, where I’m more of the sarcastic type.
She always wanted to pull out the calendar and schedule plans months in advance every week, even after telling her I prefered being spontaneous. She did all of these crazy google calendar overlays and I felt like I was always being sucked into things I didn’t want to do. She became more clingy than I had realized when I first met her. She asked me about 3 months ago, if we could spend not just weekends together, but also Wednesday nights. (We lived just over an hour apart). I suggested it could be every other week (the opposite)…I didn’t like going to her place because of the road noise where she lived and I would really only see her when she would visit me. I know, all of this sounds really one sided and like I’m an asshole. But I was very loving to her in person and she knows that, hence why it lasted so long.
Unfortunately a lot of things she did turned me off. She was too readily available, always trying to lock up my calendar, talk about marriage and kids in the next 3-5 years and I felt trapped. I was unsure.
We had great sex but it wasn’t crazy passionate, neither was our kissing. When alone, and was feeling aroused, I generally didn’t think of my ex. I constantly found myself checking out other girls places I went (but never talked to them). I felt like wow I wish that was the kind of girl I was with.
It wasn’t all bad though. The sex was phenomenal in terms of the movements. She made $100k plus which is phenomenal for someone at 24, but also had over $100k in student loans. With her wanting to get married within 5 years, I considered those loans as a big issue. She was super loving and would have been a great mother.
In the end she left me. She said we weren’t compatible. I have been a wreck and now I’m wishing I had her. Maybe not for the right reasons though?
I’m trying to figure out why if I wanted to end things myself and that I felt trapped for so long, how come all of a sudden I want her back? Is it just the void of not having someone loyal who’s there for me? The loss of a potential good wife and mother? Who can make plans and bake me things? The fear of not meeting someone as smart? She’s already talking to other guys and I’m just a wreck and need some advice. I can’t go an hour without thinking of her. I think I need to rewire the way I am thinking. I can’t stop thinking that maybe I made a mistake and should have put in more effort, but I feel like if I truly loved/had that spark for her I would have tried more all along. I would have been excited to make plans with her instead of going a week at a time seeing her. Now all I want to do is see her. Should I have stayed in it and worked harder? Are my standards too high? I feel like my first ex and my recent one were so polar opposite. One had the looks and I thought of her when thinking of sex but was toxic and the other was sweet but not as attractive. It even got to the point that to feel emotion, I had to finish inside her. Which did help.
At the time of the breakup, I tried very hard to tell her how I was looking forward to making a fun summer filled with plans together. Just 2 weeks prior she was about it. Now nothing. It’s been total silence on the other end for weeks. I know she loved me more than any guy.
Do you think this was a good thing this happened? How do I rewrire my brain? She was my only friend. This was a relationship that I went into going through the motions, and even a couple weeks before we broke up I wrote that journal entry / question that I shared above. What is going on?

2024.05.18 23:25 aslfingerspell Could humanity have succeeded with this plan?

Sorry for the vague title: I wanted to err on the side of respecting spoilers. Also, as a show-only person who has had the plot of the books spoiled for them, I was a bit nervous about looking stupid and kept my plan to myself (yes ironic I know) for fear that there was something in the books that would make my plan unfeasible. I'll get around to reading them eventually, I promise, I just wanted to bounce an idea here.
TL;DR my Wallfacer plan is to put particle accelerators on spaceships and send them to the edges of the solar system, and coordinate with particle accelerators on Earth. This creates a network of particle accelerators too far apart for the two sophons to interfere with, from which actual, truthful results can be gathered.
Now, since the plot of the books have been entirely spoiled for me I know the importance of physics research in the TBP universe, but even in-universe, from the very start, the fact that particle physics is singled out as the science the sophons are most meant to interfere with shows that it's what the Trisolarans are most worried about us developing, and thus the key to defeating them.
Now, from an in-universe perspective one could make the opposite argument: that the Trisolarans making a big deal about physics research is just a red herring, meant to keep people like me obsessing over a dead end. However, any plan that allows us to conduct uninterferred experiments allows us to figure things out for ourselves, dead end or not.
The Mechanics of the Plan (Basic Version):
We build two spaceships, each with a particle accelerator onboard. In actuality, they'd probably be more like mobile space stations that would be built in space rather than launched like a conventional spaceship, but anyway, you build two of them, and give them (or their "tugboats") enough fuel to get very far apart but not enough to leave the solar system. This will ease concerns about this being an escapist plot in disguise.
The two particle accelerators are now in opposite directions very far away from Earth. This gives the 2 sophons 3 locations (Earth, ship 1, ship 2) that are too far apart for them to interfere with simultaneously. Thus, we can run identical experiments at all 3 locations, knowing that 1 of them is guaranteed to be truthful.
Now we just apply basic deductive logic to the problem: if all three have the same results, we know for 100% its true, because only 2 locations can be interfered with and thus have different results. If 1 or 2 are different, we know for sure that at least 1-2 are the true result, which can then be confirmed with subsequent experiments. This would be much slower than normal science, but we'd know for absolutely certain that at least some of our results were not interfered with, and it'd just be a matter of further experimentation and theorizing to put it together.
Medium Version:
Make a constellation of 5 ships, each so far apart as to allow simultaneous, identical experiments with only the possibility of 2 being interfered with. Thus, whichever result comes up in at least 3 of the ships is true i.e. since either 0, 1, or 2 are being interfered with.
Obviously, this has the drawback of basically cutting our research speed by 80% (i.e. needing 5 accelerators to run 1 experiment instead of up to 5), but it's better than a full 100% block.
Final, Advanced Version:
Keep making more particle accelerator spaceships and spreading them out to the point where we could just conduct 1 experiment per 1 ship and understand that the vast majority of them were returning correct results. Say 100 ships are made: we know that on any given experimental period at least 98 of them are not suffering interference.

2024.05.18 23:24 AudienceMuch5101 AITA for refusing to pay the fee of a name change on a plane ticket, for a holiday I wasn't even going on.

As the title said, I pulled out of a girls trip holiday around March of 2023. This was 4 months in advance to the actual trip taking place and this was the first girls trip I was going to go on, so I don't quite know the etiquette of how to pull out of the trip or things like that. At this time we were all 18-19
The reason I pulled out of the trip was as follows: 1. My mum had passed away a year prior and I was still struggling a lot with the loss of my mum and the best friend I had in her. 2. One of the 4 girls (including myself) who would be going was also the girl that cheated with my ex-boyfriend in January of 2023 and attempted to hide it from me and intended fully for me to never find out it happened. The women in my friend group never called her out on this and ignored that it ever happened. I realised that I'd rather have violent and explosive food poisoning than be alone in another country with her. 3. I'm Autistic! Diagnosed with the fancy paper and all. I really struggle in Airports and planes, and especially travelling. I didn't want to be a burden as my friends really didn't know a lot about my Autism to help me in the case I had a meltdown, additionally I'd already travelled abroad that year and I was pretty travelled out.
One girl who was organising the trip, who I'll call Maddie, was very accomodating with me wanting to pull out of the trip and since there was already a ticket purchased, I set up a system to gift the ticket to another friend (I'll call her Emma) who'd never travelled out of the country before. We discussed it and she would pay half of the ticket (as I'd already paid half and wasn't bothered as long as she paid me back, I loved her but Im not paying for someone else to go on holiday.) Me and her had no problems!
All five of us had a meeting to discuss the finances of the holiday and make sure everything was accounted for. I asked Maddie if there would be a fee to change the name of the ticket to be under Emma's name instead of mine. Maddie was pretty vague and assured me it was only going to be around £30-40 which I said I could pay all of as I just about had enough at the time to cover that. Fast forward 2 months I get a text from Maddie saying:
"Sorry, unfortunately it's going to be £115 to change the name of the ticket, you've got my details right?"
This was entirely out of left field. I had £50 in my account at the time and I was panicking, I told her I literally dont have enough to pay that and she starts yelling at me that this was my responsibility. I try and ask if there's a way we can work around this and maybe everyone can pitch in £35 to 40 to cover the cost, including me. Im yelled at again that "it's not their fault I can't save my money". I worked on commission at the time, and I have a feeling that they percieved my parents money as my money which is not the case, I work for what I have and I work hard. The money I'd spent and wasted on the holiday was what I'd saved from working for a lot of months and saving everything. Emma during this time sent me the second to last payment to cover the ticket (around £100), and they told me to just send them the £100 since I have it which I felt uncomfortable doing as that was not what the money was for and I didn't feel that it was my responsibility to pay over £100 that I was not aware of. I felt it was Maddie's responsibility in the first place as the organiser to know what the costs will be including name change fees for our specific airline we were using.
Eventually we managed to come to an arrangement, myself and Emma, she owed me only one more payment that was about equal to the name change and so I told her that if she paid off the name change she will owe me nothing else. Which she did and after that I distanced myself from the group for how they treated me, coldly and with a lot of spite.
There were several nasty phonecalls from them to the point I had to rope my Dad in to help me.
I constantly find myself thinking about this situation and wondering if I was a bit of an AH or not.

2024.05.18 23:21 Cold-Cut-9760 Anyone learning SQL with ChatGPT ? If so, maybe you could help me !

Hi everyone, recently, I have been using GPT-4 a lot to improve my level in SQL, more precisely in terms of querying an existent database, not in creating database from scratch or architecturing it.
Indeed, this gem is very good for generating exercises to push my limits and improve my querying level.
However, recently I haven't been able to find the perfect prompt to encourage GPT to provide me with exercises related to what I'm asking for.
It's mind blowing how he struggles to deliver exactly what I want and he seems to be missing the point.
What I want ChatGPT to do is give me an exercise every time I ask for it. This exercise should push me to use the different functions, clauses, joins, mathematical operations, that is to say everything that is possible to query using SQL. To put it simply, I must be able to provide a complete report, around a single theme, where each step or instruction leads naturally to a next one and this for each exercise with a completely different situation from the previous one.
Obviously, I don't want it to force me to use all the principles at the same time in a single query to answer the exercise. I prefer that he pushes me to use a few at the same time.
Here is examples of typical exercise that I would like to solve and which I thought about 30 minutes ago :
Example 1 :
1.Calculate the turnover of companies for each region. 2.Identify regions that generated over 2 million in revenue. 3.List the top-revenue-generating company within each region that generated over 2 million in revenue. 4.Highlight the highest revenue-generating sale for each of the top company by region that generated over 2 million in revenue.
Example 2 :
1.Gather all book sales that occurred in the last 3 months. 2.Calculate the number of sales for each book within this 3-month period and sort the results by the highest sales count. 3.Determine the total revenue generated by each book from the sales made in the last 3 months. 4.Filter out books that contributed less than 20% of the total revenue. 5.Identify the book with the highest sales count in the last 3 months. Identify the book that generated the most revenue in the last 3 months. Identify the book with the least sale count in the last three months.
Example 3 :
1.Return the unique IDs and addresses for all stores controlled by our video game company. 2. Return the quantity of each video game in stock for each store. 3. Calculate the actual stock for each video game based on the sales that occurred in each store. 4.Identify videogames with stocks below the safety stock (threshold). 5.Identify stores that have more than three items below the safety stock. 6.Identify stores that have between 3 and 5 items below the threshold as "Not a priority", between 6 and 9 items as "Priority", between 10 and 13 as "Critic", and more than 14 as "Maximum priority"
As you can see, these types of exercises would push me to use as many SQL functions and clauses as possible while at the same time practicing with joins and CTE. When I ask ChatGPT to do these kind of exercices, it goes insane and send me the same exercice with one or two minor differences and keep giving the same type of exercices with a slightly different situation.
I don't wanna give up but it's almost as if I won't find the good prompt that would allow ChatGPT to give me these kind of exercices around a unique theme, a unique situation that would push me to generate a large report based on logical and linked instructions. Because when I ask GPT to give me exercises to train, here is how it looks :
Example of SQL exercise gave by ChatGPT
What it does is separate the instructions, and there is little link between them. It feels strange, and I can't see how it will help me train CTE and have a better grasp of JOINS. This is not the type of exercise and directions I am looking for. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm hoping someone would understand. I am confident that if I could create an appropriate prompt, it would provide me with the activities I am looking for.

2024.05.18 23:21 ThrowRABestieBlues I (24M) am in love with my best friend (25M) how do I squash my feelings?

I (24M) fell in love with my (25M) best friend. How do you stay platonic with someone you're infatuated with
I (24M) do not have many friends. I was in an accident at the butt end of my senior year that left me both orphaned and unable to walk. This was quite the bummer because I was both a track athlete and a fan of my parents.
My neighborhood was super supportive and a lot of the middle aged folk help me with groceries, home cooked meals, and driving me to appointments. Other than that I've been living on disability.
In an attempt to make human connections with people my age I wound up on fortnite. That's where I met E (25M) who quickly became my best friend.
E introduced me to his own friend group and I became part of the gang. He and I also constantly talk on discord in private voice calls, play duos together all day, and even fall asleep on call together.
It's not just how much time we spend together, but the genuine interest he took in helping me recover from my injury. Not even half a year after meeting, he already started booking flights to take trips to see me and spend the weekend with me irl. When he's here he helps me with my PT and I even began to lean on him for mental hurdles I was going thru.
I told him about how much I missed getting to go camping and how my family use to go to a specific lake in a national park to camp for a week every summer. Him and our friend group surprised me with an actual trip there where he had done extensive research and planning to make it easy for me and my very minimal ability to walk at this point.
We've gone to that lake as a group every summer for the last 4 years. He's changed so much of my life I genuinely can't imagine it without him.
The problem is I've fallen in love with him. I don't know if he even likes guys at all since I've only seen him date women. And I have so much to lose by confessing and making things weird that it's just a complete impossibility for me.
He visited this last week and just left the other day, and on the last night when we were watching a movie on the couch together and chatting and joking around I felt like we were having a moment. I had to stop myself from leaning in for a kiss.
What I need advice on is this. How do you get over such intense feelings for someone who's so active in your life? What can I do to avoid blowing it and losing my best friend and consequently my entire friend group? I don't want to go back to playing fortnite solo.
Tldr;
I'm in love with my best friend but I have to much to lose by confessing. How do I continue a platonic relationship?

2024.05.18 23:19 satelliteenter how much is okay to offer under? and other questions

Hello everyone, FTB here with a few silly questions.
I viewed a property yesterday evening for the 1st time and thinking about putting an offer in. I am very new to this so have a few questions I would like to ask. The estate agent has said that one offer is already in. The house has been up for several months and has already had one sale fall through. I'm thinking about making an offer on the back of just one viewing, but seeking some opinions.
I know the area well, as I used to work close by so not worried about that. Asking price is £265,000 it says on the website it was reduced previously but I'm not sure from what.
1) Is it reasonable to offer under £265k?
The reason for this is I'm happy with the state of the property (as far as I can tell, not any expertise in this area) however I am chain free and have a large deposit (25-30%), I've heard this can give an advantage, especially as they have already had a sale fall through. Several family members have said not to offer the list price and that it is the "done thing" to offer a little bit under (not sure about this). I'm considering to offer 5%-10% under so around £235-250k. I am a serious buyer and don't want to come off like I'm playing games to try and save a bit of money, but on the other hand, I'm feel I'm an attractive buyer and with one sale already falling through moving quicker for a bit less might be in their interest. Is it reasonable to stick in an offer of 235 and expect to negotiate up to 245 (for example).
2) I would like to go with my parents/sister to visit the property. Should I book a second viewing before or after making an offer? How likely will it be that the owner accepts another offer, in the meantime if I request a second viewing immediately, rather than going straight into the offer, and does my chain free status give me any lee-way here?
I'm thinking maybe to just go right in and offer on Monday, but equally I would like to go with my family to get their opinions. I'd also like to have a look at the loft space, which I couldn't do first time around. I wouldn't class this as essential, but something I would like to do, and I think having someone else look is reasonable. The balance I'm trying to strike here is a bit tricky perhaps.
I don't want the seller, or estate agent to doubt my legitimacy by putting in an offer and then asking for a second viewing, would it make the seller worried, like I'm trying to find some faults with the property or something? Equally I don't want to request a second viewing, and then in the meantime the house is taken off the market by the first offer (which the EA has told me is in). I have no idea about this other offer, it could be that the first offer is by someone in a chain, or a worse financial position than myself. This could worry the buyer as the first sale fell through because the buyer could not secure the correct funding.
3) Should I amend my AIP to be closer in value to the property?
Based on my salary, I could probably mortgage around 280k and I have a deposit of up to around 120k. So in theory I could be looking at properties around 350-400k. I'm not because I'd prefer to not go for the max amount and I am happy with this house after my first visit. If the EA sees I can (in theory) afford another 150k on the house price, they might be more likely to want to me to pay more. On the other hand, it can indicate I am more likely to get accepted for a mortgage (which was the sticking point of the sale that fell through).
4) How honest should I be with the EA? And should I wait for him to call me or shall I call him on Monday?
I'm thinking I could just ring him up and ask directly, "look I like the property, I'm chain free with a large deposit, so you can tell the owner I can move quickly, and more likely to be fine getting a mortgage, this should be more comforting to the owner who had a sale fall through before, I would like to do a second viewing and then immediately put an offer in, I'm very interested, but because of those reasons I'd like to offer 240k".
Or is it better to "play the game"?
5) Did I miss anything, general advice anyone can give.
Ultimately I'm very serious and very interested, just trying to get the best price and hopefully my chain free status and decent deposit should make me more attractive.
Thank you so much for reading, and thanks for anyone considering to comment, looking to get some opinions from all the experts here! :)
Good evening all.

2024.05.18 23:19 Kuina_isalive Ground Realistic.

The major issue why a lot of players quit war thunder, or just leave ground is because of CAS, I am not talking about helicopters(They are quiet annoying but its not about them), but planes. Its a huge problem, whenever we play ground we do well, starting getting kills which is part of our endless grind to the vehicle of the dream we start to get cased. Cas wasn't always annoying as if its now, it mostly starts from middle ww2 era to top tier. Cas is impossible to shoot with a every class of tank, tanks are defensless (especially light tanks) against bombs/cannons making us lose our position and our favorite tank. And to shoot them we will need to get into an SPAA which is still hard to do when half of enemy team is in the air.I don't want it to get disappeared from the ground, I just want to say that Gaijin should devide the GR and GS between two regimes, in which first one has no planes, but second one does. It would speed up grind for everyone, and also save a lot of nerves. This will also make helicopter battles to revive(hoping Gaijin will add a realistic mode for helicopters). And if it doesn't sound well second and quickest option is to just increase spawn points for spawning any air vehicle by 25-50%(depending on class), so not everyone can spawn a plane in the beginning of the match after getting one kill. CAS was never this annoying as if its now, I remember playing in 2019 and not even complaining about it, but now people just go into ground realistic to mostly main air in there, having only 2 or 1 tank in set up and rest will be planes whether its a strike/fighte bomber aircraft.

2024.05.18 23:18 Cold-Cut-9760 Anyone trying to learn SQL with ChatGPT ? If so maybe you could help me...

2024.05.18 23:17 cass0981 Nervous for upcoming trip

Next Thursday I’ll be leaving for Greece. It’s a two-week trip taken with my history class. I’m TERRIFIED. I just ovulated a few days ago and I’ve been tearful the past two days. The airport is gonna be bad, between irritability, brain fog, and the anxiety that the plane is gonna crash. There’s obviously no way I could have planned for this. We signed up for the trip over a year ago and my period, although more or less regular, has the tendency to randomly show up late every few months, pushing my cycle back.
I experience very bad body dysphoria while having an episode and I fear I’ll be distracted by how I look/feel to the point that I can’t enjoy the beaches and museums. I’ll also be wearing dresses and bathing suits, which I usually don’t wear due to insecurity.
Some of my best friends are going on the trip with me. While this will be a great bonding experience, I’m worried that I’ll snap and them or cause some fight.
I’ll get my period at the very end of the trip, so at least I’ll spend the flight back with some peace of mind and mental stability.
So, yeah, does anyone have any tips for traveling?

2024.05.18 23:16 National_Detail3106 (27M) Debilitating Visuals 1 month Post Traumatic Cataract Surgery

Hello, everyone. I’m posting here as I’m becoming desperate to find help or some answers.
I’m a 27 year old male. Toward the end of last year, I began having severe issues with the vision in my right eye that led to a traumatic cataract diagnosis. Around 15 years ago, I was shot in the right eye with a BB gun.
In January of this year, I called the University Hospital regarding the loss of vision and pain in my right eye. I was rushed in, as pain is a big concern and they wanted to make sure everything was okay. I was told I have a cataract and scheduled an appointment with a surgeon for the removal. When I asked about the pain, they told me that cataracts do not cause pain, but it may be what the cause is.
Over the course of the next 3 months, I went through phases of pain in my eye. One night, It was severe enough for me to visit the ER, from which I wasn’t given any real help. I was also incredibly sick with influenza B and congested, which seemed to make the pain even worse.
I was given an MRI and went through several different tests. Ended up getting home around 2am. Around 6am I noticed 5 missed calls from the hospital, asking me to come in right away as they may have seen something on the MRI and need more imaging.
After the additional imaging, I was told nothing seemed to be wrong, and they were at a loss in finding the cause. At one point, the ER doctor said chicken pox may be a possibility (I don’t know why). Then they told me it’s just neurological.
I spent the next few months with the pain coming and going, up to my following surgery appointments. When I brought it up to my surgeon, he didn’t know what could cause the issue either. He mentioned the cataract was so old, it had become soft.
The surgeon then explained to me the procedure, risks and benefits. I was told that I may or may not need glasses after the surgery, which I was fine with. I was told they’re standard procedures, simple and short recovery periods. I agreed and the surgery was scheduled.
Fast forward to the day after my surgery, and I begin to notice the difference in clarity of my vision. It was honestly crazy how clear my far sight vision was, but very disappointing how little I could see close up. I’m now unable to read my phone or see any detail closer than 5-7 feet away, but I was told glasses will correct the issue. No problem, I thought.
This is where my problems really begin. At night, I started noticing these incredibly intense visuals from light sources. So intense, I wasn’t able to go outside at night, or be in a dimly lit room for weeks. I am 1 month past my surgery and I am still unable to drive in the dark and struggle immensely with sitting anywhere dark with acute light sources. The best way to describe the visuals are halos, but not just like glowing street lights, I’m talking about psychedelic looking, hallucination type halos. They disappear when the light source is covered, and move in all directions, side to side and back and forth.
The best way to describe them is that they are perfectly circular and very sharply defined. Sometimes, there will be a slight ray type effect inside of them. They are present around every light source in a dark space. On the street, sometimes it’s so bad that there are dozens and dozens layered on top of each other. For weeks, I could literally feel my pupil swelling and sort of “popping”, as it adjusted to the lights. Immediately after, it would begin adjusting again, and the halos would come back. The lights go away when very bright light sources become present (like incoming headlights) or when equally disbursed. Better nights make the halos become more blurry, less defined outside of the circle.
I’ve tried to design this image to explain what I’m seeing to my doctor and others. I’ve also included a picture of how my right pupil looks in most dimmer lit, inside spaces:
https://imgur.com/a/o7vxpo3
Furthermore, I am experiencing a shadow casted around the outside of my vision in my right eye. Feels almost as if I’m looking through a tube, and seems that I have lost a fair amount of my peripheral vision. Some new floaters and flashes of light starting appearing around week 3, but not as drastic as it was with the cataract. I’m used to floaters in both eyes.
I showed this image to my surgeon and tried explaining the problem. He really didn’t seem to understand what the problem was, saying the eye looked good and halos are common. But I never knew that it would be so debilitating. He was at a loss, and mentioned that if my pupil is over dialating, it may be extending beyond my IOL, causing this issues. He’s been doing cataract surgeries for 2 years now. He also kept saying “well typically patients are older…” and then continued to explain protocol and experiences with older patients, not really considering my case individually, or offering to refer me to someone else.
At my post 1 month checkup, I asked him if there are different sizes that should have been used, only for him to say “well most IOLs are a certain size, but some are slightly bigger.” And then explained that my pupil dilating past the lens, causing the visuals. This makes sense to me, as the visuals do seem almost “prism” like. I was also told the lens was acrylic, and not as perfect as the normal lens, but I’m pretty sure there are different lens material types.
This confused me. It still does. I told him about my pupil being larger than the other before my surgery, and he saw it as well. Was this not a considering factor in my lens choice?
Additionally, I told this surgeon that back in 2013, I was diagnosed with optic nerve swelling, but he said that he had no idea what that was regarding and simply disregarded the diagnosis.
I’ve spent weeks trying to research the subject, but honestly, it’s causing me to become severely depressed and frustrated. I feel that my concerns have been totally disregarded, as I was told to wait another 3 months for my next appointment. I actually had to suggest treatment I read online with eye drops that cause the pupil to stay smaller. He agreed after my suggestion and said he would prescribe me these.
Unfortunately, they have not submitted the medication to my insurance for the past week, so I haven’t been able to try it. I hope it helps.
I really could use some help or advice. I’m writing this in the middle of the night and once again suffering from a headache from my eye issues. These visuals have not gotten any better since the night of surgery. Recently, they just go away, and some nights are better than other. Sometimes, artificial tears seem to help and other times they don’t. Sometimes losing the tension in my neck helps, sometimes moving my head down makes it worse.
I was also severely congested a few nights ago, and the halos were terrible. Decongestant spray seemed to make them totally disappear. I was told in the past I have a deviated septum, and on my right side I believe (not sure if they can be correlated)
If anyone’s has a suggestion as to what type of doctor may be able to help, or what I should expect my recovery to be like, I would be very grateful. I’m starting to feel hopeless and that people don’t believe or recognize the struggle I’m having.
At this point, I feel like I may have permanently messed up by opting in for this surgery, and I’m afraid I’ll never be able to drive or do things at night again. I understand that the damage the accident caused in my eye may be repairable, and that I probably will just need to adjust to new vision, but I really don’t think I can live with the issues I’ve been having at night. I feel as though I may never get to watch movies in theaters or watch events in dark spaces without severe visuals and head pain.
Let me know if there’s any additional info I can provide to help. On Monday, I am going to try to have my primary care provider help recommend me to someone else (insurance requires this for a second opinion).
Thank you for your time and help.

2024.05.18 23:15 ChadEriksen Let's discuss ! "My own" Another Eden Hall of Fame, here's my extensive list, it's a Long read and hope you enjoy it. What is your "Best of" ? Please share your thoughts and you can use my post as template.

Hello everyone, I've been wanting to make this post for a while and now here we are ! This is a long post but ENJOY !!!
Another Eden is now 7 years old which means many stories, characters and an entire world...or rather time periods/timelines that currently exists. So here's the question, what's your Another Eden Hall of Fame ? Both Meta and Non Meta related.
Note: Remember that what I'm about to write is based SOLELY ON MY OPINION but I'm interested to see what my fellow Residents of Time's Forgotten Keep think ! Without further ado, let's start:
  1. Best Story Protagonist (Excluding Aldo): Nona
Another Eden is composed of many stories and they are NOT always centered around Aldo which is the game's protagonist, few examples of that being Deirdre in the Knights Episodes/Nona in Apocrypha and Wryz from the recent Wryz Saga. My pick is Nona because she has BY FAR the best character development and to me she took the spotlight in the entire Apocrypha. In fact I'd argue that if Another Eden had the "Choose your Protagonist" Aldo would be the Male Protagonist and Nona would be the Female one because she's litterally the Protogonist of Apocrypha and it can be regarded as a "Game within a game" so yea that says alot.
  2. Best Side Story: Western Mythos (Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise)
The Western Mythos is the best story in my opinion (And actually alot of players do agree with me on that). The Zerberiya continent, the world, the cast of characters and the story is phenomenal from it's 1st chapter to the finale. I know that people will tell me Future Mythos is also great but it doesn't have THAT impact on me as much as the Western Mythos did.
Which is why (Rant Warning!) WFS ! WHERE'S MY WESTERN EXPANSTION !!! WHY DID YOU FORGOT THAT ZERBERIYA EXISTS ?? WE NEED MORE OF PEAK !! That is hurting me alot !! The only story which is a close second is Apocrypha but Western Mythos is the far better one and I'm thankful for Another Eden for creating that. I do hope that the Highly Rumored Eastern Mythos would be just as good because speaking of...
  1. Best Main Story: Main Story Part 2 (Tales of the East)
There are currently four Main Stories: Main Story Part 1;Main Story Part 1.5 (Ogre Wars) ;Main Story Part 2 (Tales of the East) and the currently Main Story Part 3 (Into the Hollow).
In my mind while having played all of those stories, I still find myself being drawn and attached to the Eastern Continent ! Because I truly love the setting ! WFS clearly nailed it and even so when you consider the amount of "Eastern" Personality characters that are in the game which is the highest in the game at 30 characters (Not counting AS/ES). Heck I'm currently replaying the Main Story Part 2 because I enjoyed it even better than the current Part 3 which from a pure gameplay sure it's better but in terms of Story/Characters and OST then to me nothing beats the Garulea Continent (Present/Past/Future and Underworld) !
Alot of people in the sub love Eastern characters, most notably u/NoWaifuN0Laifu who like Hozuki, an Eastern sensual Fox Lady so yea there's that.
This is in part why I'm extremely hyped for Eastern Mythos and I can't wait for it ! And Yukino Alter (One of the main things keeping me attached to Another Eden)
  1. Best Character Quest: Melissa
Melissa is by far the best Character Quest and ask any veteran player and he'll tell you that. It's also the darkest and the saddest one in the entire game and it's special in the fact that Aldo IS NOT PRESENT in it at all ! Imagine THAT ! I won't say more because of spoilers but if you don't have Melissa you can just search on Youtube as her CQ is there and you can watch it ! If you have her but have not played her quest...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING for ? DO IT !
  2. Best Character: Yukino
This is subjective and my AE subreddit flair checks out, I love Yukino so much since her introduction, apart from me having a thing for women/girls with Ice powers, her story and how she was created (Also she's Eastern as well so another point !) also her relationship to Tsukiha so no need to say more!
  3. Best Antagonist/Villain: Guildna (Main Story Part 1)
The reason why to me Guildna is the best villain is NOT what you think it is ! Another Eden is a game centered around stories Beyond Time and Space there I said it but while there are really good villainy characters like for instance the Empress/Emperor of the Land of Mi and Shin (Again Eastern !) Garneli and Genshin but Guildna is special because he made me appreciate Main Story Part 1 alot more then the other characters, it tells you what happened if Guildna makes some impactful decisions in the storyline. Besides without Guildna there's no Aldo and therefore no Another Eden !
  4. Best Cat Companion: Kuchiba
I love the Siamese Cat Breed and Kuchiba IS the only one in the game in whom I didn't change ever since I found her years ago in Vermillion Road (Another Eastern Reference, see what I told you)
  5. Best NPC: Some Guy
He's Scott literally everywhere in the game. From the past to the future, from Zerberiya to Garulea, heck even in the Hollow you'll find him ! There's no way I make a list without appreciating "Some Guy" and his deeds to the game.
  6. Best Frog: Cyrus (He's Eastern aswell ! I tell you this is why the Eastern Setting is THE BEST !!)
  7. Best Main Cast Character: Guildna
  8. Best Mascot: Varuo
If Moke wasn't released as a playable Sidekick he would have been my pick but now I have to choose the 2nd best IMO and that's Varuo. The Iconic Cat mascot in the game.
  9. Best Boss: Caroline and Justine (From Persona 5 Royal part 2 Collab)
This boss used to be the hardest boss in the game for a long time and for good reason as it has alot of HP stoppers and has TONS of HP, while the boss has been powercrept and now easy with the recent units...back than it was a pain, another close second would be the Toova AS Manifest Battle which used to be the hardest Manifest fight in the entire game because of Toova AS insane fixed DMG and RNG involved.
  10. Best OST: エルの唄~メリナ Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise ED ~ The Stifling Song Melina Edition
The best theme for the best story in the game, everytime I hear the OST I unconsciously start humming and even start tearing up because it's JUST THAT GOOD and after playing the Western Mythos and knowing what the lyrics means...man it hits hard ! A close second is Apex Logic and Cardinal Scales ED ~ Immaculate Full Version but let's be real ! The game is full of the best OST in a game ever !
  11. Best Battle OST: Apex Logic and Cardinal Scales ~ Last Notes of the Battle Song Alter Dewey Boss Theme.
This one is hard to choose as the game is packed full of Bangers in the Battle Theme departement but this one personally gets me all hyped...besides even you didn't reach that part of the game it still hypes you up ! A close second is First Knight and The Holy Sword ~ Dear My Dearest -Prayer of the Holy War- as I loved the Knights Episode Story so much and love the plot twist which leaves to this battle.
.
.
.
Now let's go to the Meta:
  1. Best Free Character: Nona AS
Seriously she's by far the most flexible free character in the game, yea sure it takes a bit to get her but she can give 1/3 of her stats to anyone and she can mold her kit into the unit she's devoted to including zone setting/element and attack type change etc... She's even more good when used with Aldo (And it's canon aswell as she's devoted to Aldo and loves him so much which he also does (Not in a friend way btw)) and we know SA Aldo is OP especially at 255 Light so yea !
  2. Best Zone Setter: Iphi
To qualify for The Best, a unit doesn't just has to set a zone but it needs to have OP effects with the zone setting skill/VC and to me no one who's better at that than Iphi, her zone setting skill Walpurgisnacht is seriously broken: First of all the skill is Pre-emptive; you get the best elemental zone (Shade zone); you get Blood Contract which gives you survivability and Lunatic Risktaker; you get 5T Magic Focus and if you recast it, you get Kaleido switch to Shade element for 1T for all units...ALL OF THOSE in a single skill and moreso when you realise that these are all skills you usually see in Stellar Awakening Locked-Behind recent units in a unit released a year ago
  3. Best Damage Dealer (DPS): Xianhua
Before Xianhua got released and broke the DPS meta, Yakumo and Sesta used to dominate that market but now Xianhua is the best end of question ! The reason being that her DPS potential is not locked behind her SA skill as most recent units does.
  4. Best True Tank: Radias AS
Some people might argue that Radias AS is being powercrept but to me a Tank is more than just high HP/DEF/DMG Mitigation via Shield or Debuffs but to me a Tank in AE needs to have Guard and Rage and to me Radias AS is still the best one even if she's now almost 2 years old. While Alma AS is alot more recent and has all of those she's more of a Secondary DPS/Support than a tank and her Guard is conditional; Soira AS doesn't have Guard;Anabel ES doesn't have Guard nor Rage and Prai is constrained by Stun after Guard
  5. Best Support: Myunfa Alter
I tried alot of units but to me no one can do support/sustain in the entire game than Myunfa Alter, seriously her kit is a dream to every one, she has everything you can think of, YEP EVERY.SINGLE.SUPPORT.EFFECT in her kit. If you have the fourth slot (80 light) she's even better, she support the entire party but more so the unit on her right:
* She can heal HP and MP and reduce MP consumption.
* She can tank (Tho not with Guard but with DMG mitigation such as -50% DMG taken, a 2000 Max HP Shield and insane debuffs + Buff END/SPR).
* She can set Earh/Magic Zone (3 Staff users+) and can awaken any zone.
* She can give Magic and Singular Focus.
* She can give Weapon Type DMG and Weakness Multiplier.
* She can give Status and Knockback Immunity.
* She set 3T pain/poison ignore res.
Yes everything I said above is in her kit, what's more is that she can do most of these preemptively and do you know what's more insane ! She's not bound by the Stellar Awakening System !
  1. Best Healer: Anabel ES
She can heal 50% HP/15% MP but unlike Radias AS which can also do it in a counter, if you put her in Guiding Light she gets +50% DMG and Healing meaning she can potentially heals 100% HP ! Something only seen in EX Attacks in ES characters and that one requires complex setting.
  2. Best Pain/Poison Setter and DoT (Damage over Time) user: Pom AS
A Best Pain/Poison setter doesn't just have to set p/p ignore res as most units can do that but can use p/p as DoT (Damage over Time) and no one can do it better then Pom. Heck 4⭐ Pom has been known for her gimmick of giving p/p if you have the appropriate equipment and there's Grasta Ores that gives +50% DMG if user is inflicted with Pain/Poison so yea.
  3. Best AF user: Miyu ES
To qualify for this the unit has to benefit more from using AF (Another Force) either by doing more DPS in AF or get easy AF Combo Multiplier, it's been known that Thunder units are the ones who can use AF efficiently and while the current Meta revolves around DMG outside AF, some units only shines in AF and Miyu ES is just that, a close second would be Victor AS but he can be tricky to use as you need the AF Combo to 1000% for him to deal 7300% DMG Multiplier but in a Thunder Team with high SPD it's possible.
  4. Best Singer: Milsha AS
While Singing has been powercrept by Praying, I still use Singing units from time to time and Milsha AS is by far the best from the best, seriously her 2 songs can give different Lunatic to the entire party depending on the Song being user (Sacrifice and Risktaker) and this effect can co-exist with other lunatic.
  5. Best Praying unit: Toova ES
This one is hard as most Praying units are OP ! However for me Toova ES takes the crown by a slight margin, just set her pray and forget about her and if you have a unit which can Cover (Iphi is most used with her) then you don't have to worry about her taking DMG and breaking Prayer.
.

Phew This essay took me 3 hours to write but that's how much I love Another Eden even tho the game's questionable direction does leave alot to be desired, I hope you enjoyed reading and I want to see everyone's opinion

2024.05.18 23:11 kingJulian_Apostate (Potentially) unpopular opinion: The Golden Gate scene in 'Rise' is the best battle scene of the trilogy

Alright to start off, I actually prefer War and Dawn over Rise overall, mainly because they both have more compelling villains, but I consider all 3 to be very good movies. But for battle scenes specifically, I actually think Rise takes the cake here, and the main reason for this is that it shows us the audience Caesar's quality of leadership and some important character traits, which were very important to establish in the first instalment. That being said, the battle scene at the end of Dawn is more cinematographically impressive, I'd say.
Now I'm not judging these scenes by any sort military realism, because for films about talking Apes you've got to suspend your disbelief a little bit anyway. That being said, I really like how the Golden Gate scene shows strategy come into play and what the evolved Apes were capable of. The Policemen obviously had the advantage of technology, so we see Caesar's plan hinging on the advantage the Apes had - their climbing abilities and their strength (especially the Gorillas pushing the bus) to close the distance. It also sets up the position of Koba, Rocket and Maurice within their society as the future lieutenants of Caesar, since they all lead separate forces of Apes as part of Caesar's strategy. In this way we also see that Caesar places a lot of trust in these characters, again setting up relations for the sequels. In the end, the way the plan all comes together, with the police being swarmed from all directions, was very fun to watch.
This scene also highlights two character traits of Caesar. First is his reluctance to kill humans, which of course ties heavily into his character conflicts in the Dawn and especially war. Second is how Caesar does everything possible to preserve his apes - considering there were only about a dozen police and hundreds of apes on that bridge, Caesar probably could have just had his apes run straight at them as a horde and still overwhelm them, but this would have cost a lot more apes then his meticulous strategy did.
This also ties into the the battle scene in Dawn, which I consider to be the second best in the trilogy. Whereas Caesar devised a clever and careful strategy to defeat the humans with as few Ape losses as possible, Koba just rushed his Apes straight into the Human defences. It goes about as well as expected, and huge numbers of Apes are killed or wounded in the attack. You can argue that Koba only really wins here because his apes had a complete element of surprise, with the humans being vulnerable while they were celebrating the restoration of power in the city. Caesar always prioritized the safety of his apes, and even tried to avoid killing humans when possible too, while Koba only cared about getting revenge on the humans.
As for war, while this film is my favourite of the trilogy, I actually find the battle scenes to be worse than the ones in Dawn and Rise. The end battle scene especially I had some issues with. My main complaint here is that the Northern forces were just too well equipped. They had Ah-64 Gunships and M1 MBTs (or rather Chieftain tanks made up to look like M1's, but hushhh...). With that much firepower, a makeshift wall constructed by Ape-slaves shouldn't have been that much of an obstacle to them - the Gunships, or at least the tanks, could easily blast that down from a kilometres away. Caesar's sacrifice to blow up the wall felt a little bit like a forced sacrifice considering the Northern forces should have destroyed it long before that point (although I liked that it gave Red a redemption scene at least).
If I could have changed that scene, I wouldn't have had the Northern alliance be so well equipped. Considering the US government has long since dissolved, and the logistical apparatus to support such maintenance intensive machines would also have collapsed after the plague, it is entirely believable that even a remnant of the US military couldn't maintain these machines. Just have the Northern military troops have similar levels of equipment as the Alpha-Omega troops did, but to make Northern forces have much more men to have a numerical advantage - that way the construction of the wall makes more sense and you could have the rest of the plot play out mostly the same way so we can still get all of the character moments in that scene, which were very good. I'd also get rid of the avalanche because it took ridiculously long to arrive in the film (arrived just at the right moment for plot convenience, let's be honest), and it seemed to be raining the night before the battle so it's a wonder so much snow accumulated. Instead, I'd have the apes escape after Caesar's sacrifice to destroy the wall, and leave the outcome of the battle ambiguous, because after the apes had escaped and the Colonel had died, it really wouldn't have mattered much whether the remaining Alpha-Omega forces or the Northern alliance won. The film had already established that the evolved simian flu was spreading beyond control, so humanity's fate was sealed at that point; showing the entire Northern army being destroyed like that wasn't really necessary after Caesar's apes had escaped.
So all in all, I think Rise had the best battle scene of the trilogy because it shows the apes' using both their newfound intelligence and their physical abilities to overcome the technological disparity. It also managed to flesh out the characters while doing this, especially Caesar, in ways that were very important for the sequels.

2024.05.18 23:11 AzTekk42 Wondering if I should deactivate dark fog

Hey guys,
So I just started a save (a few hours in) and went with mostly vanilla settings (only thing I changed was X2 resources.. coz why not y'know 🤫 )
Last time I played was a couple years back and dark fog was not a thing, I loved the chill progression with no "timer". I put in maybe a 100 hours and was at the point of having planet size blueprints and loved every second of it !!
(No spoilers pls 😊)
The question I'm asking really is : Does the dark fog actually bring anything to the game ? I kinda wanna have it chill again (really like the no stress vibe)
But at the same time I don't want to miss out on cool content!! So is it worth it ?

2024.05.18 23:10 Cold-Cut-9760 Anyone trying to learn SQL with GPT ? Prompt engineers welcomed LOL

Example of SQL exercice gave by ChatGPT
What it does is, it seperates the instructions and they have not much link between them. It feels weird and I don't see how it would allow me train CTE and have a better understanding of JOINS, This is not the type of exercise and instructions that I am asking for. I really don't even know how to explain it but I guess someone would understand me here. I am pretty sure if I was able to formulate a correct prompt, it would for sure give me exercises I wish to get.

2024.05.18 23:06 Agitated-Beautiful67 How do I justify obsession?

Hey, I am working on a fantasy story. It’s a long one, I’ll cut to the chase I have a subplot in which the main character’s father had a woman he loved. His family however wasn’t supportive of the relationship especially his dad. It’ll be shown that the reason she went missing was because of his father but the plot twist has to be it was actually him who did it He was manically obsessed with her Can you tell me a good reason why someone would hurt someone who they are obsessed and possessive about?
