2024.05.19 08:41 Apprehensive-Sun4430 Ways to prevent Burn in for oled screens

Hi everyone,
I made a smarthome app which functions as a Controlpanel for my homes lights.
It constantly Shows the same view of some light Switches, so that i can use it as a light switch without it feeling unnecessary Hard to turn on the lights by unlocking it first etc.
However two of the tablets i use have an oled screen and i want to prevent burn ins.
Do you guys have any Tips What i could implement into the app to prevent Burn ins? Or can give me a hint of what is more effective of the ideas i wrote Down below?
Here ist what i already did: -dim the screen after 10seconds idling -every 10mins a transparent shimmer moves across the screen
Here Are ideas i have : -make a screensaver animation where colourful (non transparent) dots constantly move across the screen -at night the screen Sets itself to full brightness and flashes a (non transparent) view above the screen for a few Minutes, which alternates between Red, Green and Blue colours -turn the screen brightness Down to 0f after 10 seconds instead of dimming it -leave a small black gap at one side and shift the entire view to the side one Pixel at a time and back. So that it constantly changes the Pixel colours (Bigger Buttons will still have the same colour even after moving 5pixels or more)
What of These would be most effective (and least annoying)? How often would i need to Do These?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.19 07:57 Visual_Necessary_824 12 PM glitching out bad

So I’ve had this issue for about two weeks, one day o turned my phone on and there were static lines (like on a static tv) all over the screen, and there were suddenly green mountain shaped spikes from the bottom of the screen to like half the screen. It rages harder when the color green is displayed, and sometimes when this happens the screen turns fully white. Turning it off and back on sometimes makes it go away. Can this be repaired (by a professional of course)?
I think it’s also important to note that the screen has broken before and I got it replaced by a phone repair shop. (I have a 12 pro max).

2024.05.19 07:40 Burrito_enjoyer525 So do I not get a HD crt?

Hi everyone i’m completely new to CRTs cos i didn’t grow up w them lol but rlly like the retro look it has.
I’m looking for a CRT i can play ps2, wii and ps3 games on (including some of the light gun games) and maybe watch anime/old films on sometimes. (dk if this is relevant but most of the games will be “backups” lmao) Ideally i’d want a good quality picture so was thinking a HD model.
However I heard that the HD ones don’t let you play light gun games on them so now idk which one to get…
I don’t want a big one cos i’m going to put it on my desk. Somewhere between 14-24” i think (does that inch measurement apply to the screen size or whole thing btw? I looked it up but it didn’t rlly clear things up😭)
I’d rather not spend more than ~£100 too so nothing crazy expensive pls (unless you believe I might get lucky and find a good deal on one-in which case lmk the model and i’ll keep an eye out)
Any recommendations would rlly be appreciated :)

2024.05.19 06:59 QuestionMarkKitten Ludwig D&D game

I just had an awesome D&D game and I think my friend who was also the GM is both low key and high key an absolute genius.
Because, she came up with a brilliant campaign. I would love if Ludwig did something similar, I think it would make great content.
This occurred because her original party had some drama and split (which was why they didn't let me film it or reveal any identities. But, OMG I wish I could have because it was the best and funniest campaign I've seen in all 15 years of my playing this game.)
So being the geeks we are we settled the argument with a D&D duel... but a party vs. party duel. (I was called to fill in because someone rage quit over some other drama and they needed to keep the party numbers even. We are playing 4 vs. 4) She has essentially created a PVP version of D&D.
The campaign is: The city has been besieged by random monsters who keep appearing out of mysterious portals. So the Mayor has offered a thousand gold reward to the adventurers who kill the most monsters, thus thinning their numbers and keeping them at bay. Plus gold bonuses for reaching a certain amount of monster kills e.g. 100, 200, 1000. or for killing particular bosses.
However, kills can only be monsters. If you kill an NPC/townsfolk it is still considered murder. This and any other crime still applies if someone reports it to the city office and of course bounties will be put on anyone who commits a crime.
If caught, and jailed then found guilty you can be fined the 100g diamond dust each to resurrect the murdered (as long as their body is retrieved) or you will be executed if you cannot pay the fine(s). You can only claim the prize money or access the bank if your ledger is clear of any crimes.
We are playing the campaign on endless mode so we allow resurrection of party members, rescue from executions and buying new identities/re-rolling characters if you do get caught or killed but if you want to limit that, you can just end their character's story and have the player help the GM act out citizen NPCs when their character gets caught or killed. The other team...I mean ANYONE can claim the gold bounty if they assist in the capture of any criminal character. (We are also playing with friendly fire on, but that, again, is optional.)
To keep track of these kills/murders each team is assigned a guide played by the gm and given an enchanted bracelet (much like an iwatch). We used bards as the guides, but any class will do. This guide is a bit like a police officer or park ranger they show the adventurers around, they can be asked about knowledge of the terrain, city lore or rules of the tournament at any time. They also report back to the Mayor and enforce any rules/laws. (They can be killed, threatened or bribed but then they could also report you for the crimes or it could registered on the "enchanted bracelet" as a murder.) They are however a non-active party member who stays back away from the combat and offers minimal assitance when in town they go home or to the townhall head office to make reports and leave the adventurers to their plots and schemes.
You can claim the bonus gold or bounties at any time but only if you are in the city bank, there are no outstanding murders/crimes registered against you or a party member, and your guide is alive and around to verify it.
Here is the genius part, she runs each session turn based, team 1 one session then team 2 one session.
Here is where the game gets super fun: During your session, teams can sabotage each other as much as they want. Feed misleading intel to the citizens, plot assassinations of other party members, set traps, frame other party members for crimes, any shenanigans the players can think of to slow or eliminate the other party members is allowed. (My team this round divised a mail bomb which plays "pop goes the weasle" then fires an explosive weasel at their face. Which will be delivered to the other team next session.)
You can also come up with defenses or counter measures. Or you can get down to the business of racking up as many monster kills as possible by exploring the near by caverns or patrolling the city walls.
The other thing that was genius, is my friend set up a huge monitor and had AI generated art of things we described as we played, displayed on the screen in HD... so you immediately got some very vivid, graphic and bizarre images of the most random things. Like a weasle firing out of a jack in the box. 🤣
We also had a printer and laminator so that whenever an NPC, monster or even our own characters were described we could AI generate an image print it, laminate it and make it an instant token for the board.

2024.05.19 06:47 Spare_Scarcity6078 Shift years for television?

What would you say are the shift years for TV?
Here's my take. Post yours as well.
1996 or 1998 - I'm debating this one.
  1. 90s shows ending. TV networks rebranding. such as Cartoon Network.
  2. Ending of the living room culture. A lot of classic 2000s shows ending this year. HD starting to become popular around this time. YouTube's second wave in popularity around this time ushering in a precursor to modern internet culture.
  3. Streaming overtaking cable as "the modern way to TV", new shows for the 2010s. Flat-screen TVs officially overtaking CRT TVs.
2016 - Today's politics being incorporated in a lot of shows.
  1. I'm starting to see a shift here for the better. MeTV Toons and Toonami returning in the afternoon?

2024.05.19 06:30 Fabulous_Store_7836 How can I create a running game clock in excel using my iPad?

How can I create a timer on Excel using my iPad?
Hello Reddit community,
I’m editing a soccer game for my daughters soccer team, and I’m looking to see if there’s a way to create a timer, or running clock, to include on the scoreboard I’m overlaying on the video.
I have created the scoreboard on excel and I edit the scores and time manually. I then take a screenshot of my screen, crop to fill the green background, and then upload the photo into Final Cut Pro. I can only edit the running clock when I adjust the score, and each time I’m cropping the screenshot to then add into the video.
I’m using an iPad for all because my Mac is too old and I can’t download Final Cut Pro.
Any recommendations?
I read about creating/enabling macros to create a “start, pause, and reset” button, however I can’t work with macros on my iPad.
My idea was to create the running clock, screen record while the clock runs, adjust the scores at the times they happened (according to my on field video), then cropping the videos the same way I cropped the photos. Then inserting that into Final Cut Pro.
There’s probably a simpler way and was hoping the Reddit community can help me.

2024.05.19 05:56 Geek-Workshop Dead pixel on 6K only at certain angles?

Recently bought a 2nd band original BMPCC 6K and noticed a dead pixel (green in color). After doing some reading I re-calibrated the image sensor, only to find the pesky pixel is still there.
The odd thing is though, I can only see it when looking at the screen at a certain angle (looking slightly down, almost straight on). Any other viewing angle, looking more up at the screen, exactly straight on, looking down (at a greater angle), side angle, you name the angle, and I cannot see it from there. Would this imply the dead pixel is simply on the screen?
(Also I know everyone is going to ask, and no I cannot check any footage yet to see if the pixel is there, as I do not have a card in the camera yet, though will acquire one soon)

2024.05.19 05:47 ywlke287 ThinkPad T14s Gen 3 AMD (G3A) - reflections of a former T430s user after >1 year

Back in late 2022, I was looking to upgrade my 10 year old ThinkPad T430s (which was still performing like a champ) to something a bit more modern with respect to being thin and lightweight while also being durable with good battery life. Given the state of Intel mobile CPUs at the time, the X1 Carbon was sadly out as an option as it only comes with Intel.
Overall, the T14s Gen 3 AMD was a great upgrade from my then-10 year old T430s. Now that I've had it for about 1.5 years, I figure I'd share my longer-term impressions of the laptop. Hope folks find the details below helpful, even though it's not late-breaking.
Configuration: CTO with Ryzen 7 6850U, 32 GB RAM, 400 nit low power screen, self-upgrade to Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB SSD
Likes:
  1. Similar in portability/weight to the top-of-the-line X1 Carbon but with AMD CPU.
  2. The touchpad is very smooth and pleasant to use, unlike on my prior ThinkPads. (I would love to have the Fn-F12 key toggle the touchpad on and off as an option since my hands run warm and tend to activate it while typing.)
  3. The 400 nit screen is beautiful.
  4. The laptop is cool and quiet; the fan almost never runs with browsing or office tasks while on battery.
  5. I can get 8-12 hours of battery depending on what I'm running; I have yet to run out of battery between charges.
  6. The integrated graphics card is more than sufficient for light gaming.
  7. On top of that, it came certified to run Ubuntu Linux 20.04 (with the OEM kernel variant), which runs quite smoothly.
Stuck in standby problem - workaround identified:
This was the single biggest annoyance I experienced. Routinely, every 0.5 days to a week, the laptop would fail to wake up from standby after being in it for at least an hour or so. The power light would just continue to pulse, and I would have to hard power off and on. Despite upgrading to Lenovo premier support, getting a system board replacement, as well as several more calls to premier support, I was never able to get the problem fixed, until u/sbundlab's post on this sub: https://www.reddit.com/thinkpad/comments/18fagpc/fix\_thinkpad\_p16s\_gen\_1\_amdt16\_amdp14s\_gen\_3/. Rolling back the Qualcomm Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers to 1.x did the trick and I haven't had another instance of stuck-in-standby since.
Keyboard:
The keyboard isn't what it used to be (compared to a T430s or similar era) but the tradeoffs all seem to be related to making a thinner laptop, which is what I wanted anyways. The biggest thing I had to get used to with the keyboard was that the keys bottom out below the frame/tray, so if I hit a key too close to its edge, my finger will run into the frame. I actually think this is more of a problem for me than the decreased key travel itself. The most obvious time this happens is when I press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up Task Manager. I'm used to pressing Ctrl-Shift together with the thumb but when I do that now, the frame hits the middle of my thumb and I might not fully depress both keys so easily. The curvature of each key top is also less than what I prefer, but still better than flat. The arrow keys are sadly flat and I am noticeably less accurate with them as a result to either concave or convex keys. But otherwise the keyboard is fine to type on.
Quirks:
  1. For some reason the laptop boots very slowly when I have a lot of USB devices attached; it's as if the BIOS is taking a long time to enumerate all of the devices. My workaround is just to be more patient, or to unplug USB until Windows starts to boot.
  2. I would prefer to have kept volume keys separate from F keys since I actually use my F keys routinely.
  3. I would prefer to have orange or green keyboard LEDs instead of white, since white is a little harsher in the dark.
  4. I prefer the old power status indicators on the lid; the pulsing red dot while in standby is sleek, but it means I have to stare at the laptop for a good 3 seconds to figure out if it's in standby versus straight on or off.
Other quibbles:
  1. When using the laptop on my lap, the bottom of the screen hits my leg. This is because the hinge now swings the screen behind the base rather than keeping it entirely above the base like it did with older models.
  2. It takes two hands to open the laptop lid, which is due to increased friction keeping the laptop closed now that latches aren't used any more.
  3. The lower edge of the base now has a hard corner transition rather than a taper, since the laptop is too thin to taper. It doesn't bother me when typing but I notice it when I do a one-handed carry with the laptop open.
  4. I worry a little about the durability of the USB-C connection which is required for charging. But at least both ports can charge.

2024.05.19 05:45 YoBoJosh Trying to find this random channel I used to watch

There was this YouTube channel I used to watch where they would fact-check popular pictures or videos. I remember to reveal the truth they would take an envelope and pull out the answer to reveal if the video is real or fake. Two examples I remember is a whale jumping on a boat which ended up being real because a YouTubers budget is too low to recreate that with cgi, and a picture of a titanoboa in a lake which was proven false. What is this YouTube channels name? Also random detail but I’m pretty sure the guy who talked the whole time was in front of a green screen video of a bar with a bunch of TVs.

2024.05.19 05:32 NightApprehensive923 [pc?][2000’s] educational elementary school game

Pretty modern clean style but not that colorful and it wasn’t a game where you could walk around, it was 2D. There would be a white screen that showed what you completed already and different categories to learn and choose from. I remember it being math and reading related but also miscellaneous other things to learn about like directions. One character I remember was wearing green and I think looked like one of the wild Kratt brothers. I think there was also a girl with purple hair these were like avatars you could choose from in the game. I also remember there being a parrot? You could also print out certificates for it after completing certain stuff. I don’t know if this is right but I think the title had something to do with the word “imagine” or had and “I” in it. In the bottom right corner there would be a pie chart of the categories you completed. I think when you would answer the questions the background was yellow. Sorry this is so vague but this is all I remember because I played it only a few times so long ago 😭

2024.05.19 04:53 intotheblued Unseated Colonoscopy Experience (NHS UK)

wanted to share my experience as a 28 year old, F, on the very thin side, anxious, and autistic.
had to have colonoscopy due to positive fit test and anaemia diagnosis, and 6 months of heavily bloody multi-daily bathroom trips. I was starting to get very concerned about cancer.
I opted for no sedation because I'm extremely anxious about feeling 'out of it' or not in control of my body/brain or feeling dizzy.
The thought of waking up and not knowing what my body went through was also making me squeamish.
I did a lot of research, I watched full, unseated colonoscopy videos on YouTube, this post from this subreddit was also incredible and explains it all better than I could. but here's my detailed experience of each step.
Prep: The prep was not bad at all, I had Citrafleet.
I prepared the mixture and took it at 6pm (the leaflet said 5pm, appointment at 11am) It had a nice lemon taste and was pleasant. after I drunk it, my medication anxiety/dread kicked in, I was like, oh god, what did I just do to my body. (i've never experienced laxatives before) I was expecting it to be like a movie and to immediately poop lol. I did not have a bowel movement for 3-4 hours. then it was just on and off bathroom trips. Funnily enough the only time it bothered me was I had to leave a competitive computer-game mid-match because I suddenly had to go so bad LOL.other than that, didn't feel too different to my normal symptoms honestly.
then I slept at 3-4am, at 3am I started to suddenly feel queasy and shaky and awful, stayed up too late I think, but it passed and I drunk water and went to sleep.
I woke up at 7am for the second packet of prep, it acted faster this time and then I stopped my 2-hours-before water drinking, was totally empty and went to the hospital.
Hospital: I got lucky, I got a very nice NHS hospital. I had a lovely nurse. They started talking about sedation and I said "I've decided to do no sedation" She said "Ah, gas and air. alright" I said nono, no sedation at all. She was a bit like "ermmm, we'll see about that" haha.
but ultimately everyone was very very respectful of my wishes! they just didn't think I would actually manage.
My heart rate was really high for ages in the waiting/prep room when they took my pulse and honestly I was so stressed they wouldn't do the procedure because my heart rate was high, so I had no time to be worried about what lay ahead because I was so fixated on trying to slow my heart rate. So my advice would be just keep your mind occupied before going in.
I got given huge green shorts, a cozy disposable gown, an iv/canula thing (they assured me it was routine, but I wouldn't get sedation). I had to pee a bunch before and then in the surgery room and had a little blanket put over me.
I had a pillow that was super comfortable and was instructed into the relevant position.
Procedure: The nurses were ALL surprised I wasn't having sedation, they asked if I was really sure I didn't want the gas and air because it can be painful and stopping halfway would be very detrimental.
They said "I know you want to do it without gas and air, some people say say they will and then can't handle it. The nurses also said it's rare someone asks to do it no sedation.
I was mentally preparing myself for the pain of the gas(for inflating the colon). I will say imagining it and feeling it are two very different experiences.
once the camera was in and they inflated with gas. It kept feeling like it was never going to stop inflating. I felt at my bodily physical limit of gas, but it kept inflating, awful awful awful. I can't deny. about 8/10 discomfort, maybe 6-7/10 pain. I had the worst urge to fart that I've ever had in my life. like "If I don't fart I'm going to explode from the inside" levels of bad, which was a slightly panic inducing feeling. The nurses said to pass gas if I needed to, but I couldn't fart. Either because of the position I was in (on side, knees up to chest), the obstruction from the camera, the fear, or because I felt like if I tensed, I'd pop like a balloon.
so "if i dont fart i'll explode & die, if i tense to fart i'll explode & die" was basically my experience with the gas.
Next they said "You might feel a period cramp" and I did. BOY DID I.
I said: "Oh yeah, just like a bad period cramp" And she said "Yeah we can't really help the boys by telling them that" and I somehow managed a "haha"
I think they said "We're going to do some water" but I didn't feel that.
It just felt like just trying to survive and get through it, I was just breathing, I knew I could survive it once I knew the pain I was dealing with. It just stayed consistently awful and painful and terrible. with occasional very bad cramps and awful sensations in 40-50 second bouts in various places in the middle section of my body.
There was so much different noise too from the machine.
The sensations ranged from: Intense gas cramps, horribly inflated feeling, a sucking on my intestines feeling, stomach caving in feeling, terrible period pain, terrible stomach pain, and rippling sensations.
I could barely look at the camera screen because I was just so focused on getting through it. frankly I didn't care LOL. I think I glanced once I just couldn't handle looking on top of what was happening to me. side note: I'm now put off giving birth if its anything like this hahaha.
I fluctuated between tensing from the discomfort and trying to relax. sometimes the discomfort was so freaky and bad my body tensed just to deal with it. If you've ever had a dream where a zombie was eating your stomach guts alive, it was reminiscent of that.
side note: I'm like a cat when I'm in pain, I don't like to show it, and I didn't want the sedation. So I was so badly trying to play it cool.
The literal best way I can describe all of this, it was like the worst food poisoning of your life, the worst trapped wind of your life, and the worst period cramp of your life, all at once, x2 or x3.
A few times my stomach rippled really unpleasantly and I keep remembering that sensation and cringing today
I can also liken some of the feelings to someone sticking a henry hoover into my ovaries.
It wasn't anything I haven't 'naturally' felt in my body before, if that makes sense, they were "familiar" sensations, just not to that degree. I didn't expect it to be such a worse variation of familiar pains.
I also didn't expect to feel all of this SO HIGH UP IN MY BODY?! like the majority of it was felt above and around my belly button.
I don't understand how people say they knew what part of the colon they were in, I couldn't. but they did point when we were about halfway and I was relieved.
For the last part, turn or bend, I think it took 3 attempts, the nurse had to push onto my tummy to flatten something out, honestly, that made me feel so much better, the pressure was really relieving. and I swear to you, it poked my rib when it went through! it felt like it anyway.
There was no pain after that. I knew it wouldn't hurt going out, so my relief was immeasurable, I knew I'd done it.
the only feeling then was just "aughuhguhguh my insides" feeling, and slight gas bloating still. I just focused on my breathing.
They said "We're going to take the biopsies now." I didn't feel that (thank goodness) but I was mega-cringing at the idea. for some reason I felt hot and slight burning in my insides mostly towards the entrance. I'm not sure how they took the biopsies but I heard a tiny drill type sound, and it freaked me out lol. i imagined them frying it off with a tiny saw.
they took, either 6 or 12 biopsies, I'm not sure. it was a strip biopsy, on my report card it has 6 things and says "x2" for each one, so idk.
When the camera went out I asked "is it over?" I didn't really feel the camera go out and was in disbelief because it was quicker than I anticipated and I couldn't believe that I had done it and was feeling proud of myself, and they were all hyping me up so much, telling me I should be crowned as queen and that the nurse could never do what I did. I felt so on top of the world. I couldn't stop smiling with relief.
The nurse called me brave and I said I was only brave because I was so scared of the sedation. Everyone is brave in different ways! You're not any less brave than me if you opt for sedation or Entonox. :)
Genuinely the entire thing felt 10 minutes long, it was like they did a speed-run of my guts, and it FELT like that too lol. just absolutely crashing around the entire mario kart racetrack that was my bowel. I'm just kidding, the doctor was great, it's a baffling procedure and I admire any doctor that does it.
I'd be so curious how long it actually was.. I was mentally prepared for 44 minutes, but idk. I don't want to get your hopes up that it will be short. maybe the shorter, the more painful?
I walked to the bus stop with my mum, I was kind of in disbelief that I did that.
Post-non-sedated-colonoscopy-thoughts
I would do it again if I had to, un-sedated. It was worth it for me to avoid three types of sensations that make me panic (dizziness, sluggish or forgetful)
I'm also really happy that I was able to be there and experience what was happening to my body, personally, I feel like if I was sedated I would always be wondering what my body went through without me being present.
I liked being able to breathe, and follow any instructions.
I've spent the entirety of the following day cringing in reflection of what happened, feeling achy, and being embarrassed for doing it un-sedated (for some reason I feel like everyone thinks i'm crazy).
I hope this helps... someone.
My options of sedation were Entonox or Midazolam and Fentanyl through IV. Lots of people said those things made them so relaxed and the best relaxation they've ever felt. It made me remember the Lavender Liquid dispensed from SCP-294q-01, where they drank the perfect drink and afterwards said "I'm sorry, but at this point everything is just one big let-down"
My brain is immensely neurotic and always in 'go' mode, I was worried if I felt relaxation like that, I'd probably start chasing different drugs to recreate it lol.
