2024.05.18 21:53 marrap23 Starting a new job at a preschool

Hi! I interviewed for a teacher's aide job at a preschool on Monday, and they offered the job to me immediately. And want me to start this coming Monday. This is my first job in ECE and so this week has been busy with pre-hire forms, background check, live scan and TB test. They also sent me a child abuse mandated reporter training (4 hours), which I'm supposed to take before I start. I also received an onboarding training yesterday (Friday). I sent an email to clarify, but I'm not sure if I need to complete this before I start working. Is this normal for a person new at this job? Do I need to complete the mandated reporter training before I start?
They're really rushing me into this job and it seems like a lot to do in a week when I'm not getting paid yet! 😅
I'm in California, and got the job at KinderCare.
Thank you!

2024.05.18 21:51 canarymom Hard water damage??

Hard water damage??
We recently moved into a 7 year old single family home rental. Right away, we began to notice issues with the plumbing. I've reported everything to the property management company but the owner refuses to fix anything.
Every drain in the home is either severly deteriorated and/or heavily corroded, including appliances like the clothes washer and dishwasher. This has caused leaking behind the tubs/shower pans which has lead to mold growth. There's also large cracks in the tile of the home, spanning 20+ feet, but I'm not sure that's related.
We're already planning to vacate but our state isn't very tenant friendly so we have to build a strong case for leaving. I've tried to hire plumbers to help us but they refuse to even enter the home without the owners permission.
The water test sample you see came from a bathroom sink, which should be traveling through the home's water softener. But I don't think it's functioning. The pipes all around the water softener are heavily corroded and the pipe where the regeneration comes out drips 24/7. (I believe this means the water softener is leaking?)
Could this level of hard water-ness be the cause behind all the plumbing damage and deterioration? Especially considering the young age of the home?
P.S. The home is in a very nice, expensive neighborhood.

2024.05.18 21:27 StrawberrySwirlGirl2 Should I go or should I not go? Re-test at the end of June.

Because only you all in this community will understand my dilemma, I really need advice. My brother is getting married in July and decided after the extremely unexpected passing of his mother-in law/his fiancé's mom at the end of February that he would like to have a Bridal Shower for his Fiancé in June. They originally picked June 8th but turns out none of my SIL's close friends/family are able to attend because of other obligations (school, work, etc.). My brother texted my sister and I explaining this and asked what date would be better for us/others to ensure her major support system (being that she is an only child and also lost her dad at the age of 18) would be able to be there and moved the shower to Sunday, June 2nd.
The bridal shower is in California (where they live) and my sister is unable to go due to school obligations and I told him yesterday when he texted me asking about my attendance if I was aware about wether or not I would be able to make it. I'm super stressed and conflicted and told him that I don't think I would be able to go because of my re-test towards the end of June and I'm almost certain he's upset with me about it but of course didn't directly say so.
My therapist says I should go and either use it as a way to refresh my mind and energy or take my study materials with me and stay on top of whatever I can while I'm out there.
I really don't know what to do. I'm so worried about not doing well on my retake that I'm literally scared to go and fall off track and regretting it later on. My last AAMC FL last week was a 507 (I took this exam before a year ago but truly did not remember any questions).
What would you guys do if you were me?

2024.05.18 21:20 maxiderm Emissions sticker painted over - DMV won't register bike

Hey all, I live in California and I recently bought a well-kept beautifully restored 1985 Honda V65 Sabre from a tiny dealership in Wisconsin. I went to get it registered and the DMV person found everything they needed except the emissions sticker. After looking a while we found the emissions sticker on the frame of the bike, but hardly any text was legible because someone at some point had painted over it with black paint. They need to have it at least legible enough to read the part that says it's 49 or 50 state emissions compliant or whatever. So they let me leave with a 30 day temporary registration in order to get a new sticker or make the old one legible enough to have them complete the DMV registration.
I asked a local Honda bike dealership if they could order me a replacement and they said they couldn't. Their best recommendation was to buy paint remover and try to scrub it off the sticker. I thought of maybe trying to find an image of an identical one online and having a decal store print one for me, but finding a completely legible one online is tough because it's an old rare model of bike very few people have.
Any thoughts on what to do here? I think trying a paint remover is a good first idea, but I'm a complete dummy and don't even know what product to try for this...

2024.05.18 21:16 Iceberg-man-77 People are scared to speak their minds

I live in Northern California, in a small upper middle class town. The stereotype of California is that everyone is a liberal, especially the young people.
However, this is wrong. You’d be surprised of how many people i’ve met that are actually just real. Not conservative; just real. But they’re too scared to speak their minds.
Exhibit A: A friend of mine had openly admitted that Trump is better at economics than most Democrats. He has also admitted that the Palestine-Israel conflict is WAY too nuanced. He’s against the mass killings of Jews and Arabs alike, but he doesn’t support any side—Palestine, Hamas, Israel—because all of them have committed atrocities in the last. Plus, it’s hard to say whose land it really is. it’s a 2000 year old conflict and both people’s reasonings are somewhat valid. you may think my friend is some hidden conservative. but no; he has a transgender partner. a transgender male.
Exhibit B: So many people have told me that the LGB and the TQ+ should be separate. And that they think this transgender and nonbinary ideologies are plain stupid. Some of these people do watch conservative content, while others definitely don’t. It’s simply how they feel. and they all make sure to say that LGB is fine and DIFFERENT from the TQ+ plus which is crazy.
They also make sure to say intersex is a different conversation because that is a biological condition (like homosexuality) not a mental one.
Some of these people i’m close with, others not so much. yet they’ve told me this because i’ve posted some conservative content in the past so people know i’m not some crazy liberal; some even think i’m a conservative which isn’t true at all. definitely a left leaning centrist. they also tell me about the LGB-TQ+ stuff because i’m actually gay and they’re basically agreeing with me: a gay man who opposes the TQ+ nonsense.
Unfortunately, all these people are scared to speak their minds. I’m usually not, especially when it comes to the lgb-tq+ stuff because what are you going to do to me? cancel me? that’s homophobic 😂😂
but they’re all scared because of the ultra-libs; the people who are transgender and those that yell about Palestine day and night. so they stay quiet.
and these people are fairly liberal as well. they support abortion rights, that i know for a fact. and living in California, you’re more or less going to be anti racist considering how many races you’ve intermingled with since infancy. but all they have are these slightly differing views. but they’re too scared to voice them.
what i’m getting at is that not everyone in California is the same liberal that lives in SF or LA or San Diego. Those of us that live outside of these liberal hubs are more nuanced. we don’t subscribe completely to either ideology. we’re moderates and centrist. and i’m sure this is the case in most places in America. but unfortunately, the extremists and radicals run the media and everyone is scared to oppose them. America needs the centrists and moderates to take over. only then will he have good debate, consensus, find a middle ground and actually move this country forward. our institutions won’t be in gridlock and we will actually advance once again

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 1)
https://preview.redd.it/m07tmkxgi81d1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a069dd209bca819edad29814e0bbd2b76eaa50db

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The second part will be posted tomorrow.

Here's a new edition of "Directors at the Box Office", which seeks to explore the directors' trajectory at the box office and analyze their hits and bombs. I already talked about a few, and as I promised, it's Clint Eastwood's turn.
Eastwood was a troublemaker at school, and he had a bunch of odd jobs such as lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was discharged two years later. Through this, he got into contact with a Hollywood representative, who got him into acting classes and started his acting career. He got his start by starring in the hit show Rawhide, but he said he was exhausted by the experience. This caught the attention of some film producers and he decided to act in films directed by the then-unknown Sergio Leone. His career was on the rise, and then he got the chance to make his directorial debut.
From a box office perspective, how reliable was he to deliver a box office hit?
That's the point of this post. To analyze his career.

It should be noted that as he started his career in the 1970s, some of the domestic grosses here will be adjusted by inflation. The table with his highest grossing films, however, will be left in its unadjusted form, as the worldwide grosses are more difficult to adjust.

Play Misty for Me (1971)

"The scream you hear may be your own!"
His directorial debut. It stars Eastwood, Jessica Walter and Donna Mills, and follows a radio disc jockey being stalked by an obsessed female fan.
Before his colleague Irving Leonard died, he and Eastwood had discussed the idea of producing a film that was to give Eastwood the artistic control he desired, and his debut as a director. Eastwood said he was ready, "I stored away all the mistakes I made and saved up all the good things I learned, and now I know enough to control my own projects and get what I want out of actors."
The film was a huge success for Eastwood, and it also received positive reviews. So far, his directorial career was off to a great start.
  • Budget: $950,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,600,000. ($81.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $10,600,000.

High Plains Drifter (1973)

"They'd never forget the day he drifted into town."
His second film. The film stars Eastwood, Verna Bloom and Mariana Hill, and follows a mysterious stranger who metes out justice in a corrupt frontier mining town.
Eastwood reportedly liked the offbeat quality of the film's original nine-page proposal and approached Universal with the idea of directing it, which would make it his first directed Western. The screenplay was inspired by the real-life murder of Kitty Genovese in Queens in 1964, which eyewitnesses reportedly stood by and watched. Holes in the plot were filled in with black humor and allegory, influenced by Sergio Leone.
It was well received, and the film even surpassed Play Misty for Me at the box office. Eastwood was just going up.
  • Budget: $5,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $15,700,000. ($110.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $15,700,000.

Breezy (1973)

"Her name is Breezy."
His third film. It stars William Holden and Kay Lenz, and follows the relationship between a middle-aged real estate agent and a young hitchhiker.
This was his first directed film without starring on it. And his lack of presence certainly hurt the film; it received mixed reviews and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $750,000.
  • Domestic gross: $200,000. ($1.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $217,753.

The Eiger Sanction (1975)

"His lifeline, held by the assassin he hunted."
His fourth film. Based on the novel by Trevanian, the film stars Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, and Jack Cassidy. It follows Jonathan Hemlock, an art history professor, mountain climber, and former assassin once employed by a secret government agency, who is blackmailed into returning to his deadly profession for one last mission.
The film received mixed reactions for its writing, and it wasn't a box office success either.
  • Budget: $9,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $14,200,000. ($82.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $14,200,000.

The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

"An army of one."
His fifth film. Based on the novel Gone to Texas by Forrest Carter, it stars Eastwood, Chief Dan George, Sondra Locke, Bill McKinney and John Vernon. The film tells the story of Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer whose family is murdered by Union militia during the Civil War. Driven to revenge, Wales joins a Confederate guerrilla band and makes a name for himself as a feared gunfighter. After the war, all the fighters in Wales' group except for him surrender to Union soldiers, but the Confederates end up being massacred. Wales becomes an outlaw and is pursued by bounty hunters and Union soldiers as he tries to make a new life for himself.
Eastwood was fascinated by the novel and he bought the film rights, hoping to star on the film. He got Philip Kaufman involved as screenwriter and possible director, but left after disagreeing with Eastwood in the material adapted to the screen. Kaufman insisted on filming with a meticulous attention to detail, which caused disagreements with Eastwood, not to mention the attraction the two shared towards Locke and apparent jealousy on Kaufman's part in regard to their emerging relationship. This caused Eastwood to take over as the director. Kaufman's firing angered the DGA, as he did most of the pre-production, and sanctioning a $60,000 fine. This resulted in the Director's Guild passing a new rule, known as "the Eastwood Rule", which prohibits an actor or producer from firing the director and then personally taking on the director's role.
The film received critical acclaim, and in subsequent years, is ranked among Eastwood's greatest films. It was also a huge success at the box office, doubling his previous highest grossing film. It was also one of the few Western films to receive critical and commercial success in the 1970s at a time when the Western was thought to be dying as a major genre in Hollywood.
  • Budget: $3,700,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,800,000. ($174.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $31,800,000.

The Gauntlet (1977)

"The man in the middle of..."
His sixth film. It stars Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Pat Hingle, William Prince, Bill McKinney, and Mara Corday. It follows a down-and-out cop who falls in love with a prostitute, to whom he is assigned to escort from Las Vegas to Phoenix for her to testify against the mob.
While it received mixed reviews, it became another box office success for Eastwood, becoming his now highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $5,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,400,000. ($182.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $35,400,000.

Bronco Billy (1980)

"The most outrageous of 'em all."
His seventh film. The film stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke, and focuses on the financially-struggling owner of a traditional Wild West show and his new assistant.
It became another critical and commercial success for Eastwood, who referred to the film as one of his most affable shoots of his career.
  • Budget: $6,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $24,265,659. ($91.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $24,265,659.

Firefox (1982)

"The most devastating killing machine ever built... his job... steal it!"
His eighth film. Based on the novel by Craig Thomas, it stars Eastwood, Freddie Jones and David Huffman. The Soviets have developed a revolutionary new jet fighter, called "Firefox". Naturally, the British are worried that the jet will be used as a first-strike weapon, as rumors say that the jet is undetectable on radar. They send ex-Vietnam War pilot Mitchell Gant on a covert mission into the Soviet Union to steal the Firefox.
The film received mixed reviews, but it earned almost $47 million, becoming Eastwood's highest grossing title as director.
  • Budget: $21,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $46,708,276. ($151.1 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $46,708,276.

Honkytonk Man (1982)

"The boy is on his way to becoming a man. The man is on his way to becoming a legend."
His ninth film. It's based on the novel by Clancy Carlile, and it stars Eastwood and his son Kyle. It follows Red Stovall, a country music singer and composer. With his nephew Whit by his side, he travels to Nashville to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in the backdrop of the Great Depression.
While the film received acclaim, it earned just $4.4 million, becoming his second worst performer.
  • Budget: $2,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $4,484,991. ($14.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $4,484,991.

Sudden Impact (1983)

"Dirty Harry is at it again."
His tenth film. The fourth installment in the Dirty Harry series, directed, it stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke. The film tells the story of a gang rape victim who decides to seek revenge on her rapists 10 years after the attack by killing them one by one. Inspector Harry Callahan, famous for his unconventional and often brutal crime-fighting tactics, is tasked with tracking down the serial killer.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, but it earned over $150 million worldwide, Eastwood's first film to pass that milestone. It's also very popular for including the iconic catchphrase, "Go ahead, make my day."
  • Budget: $22,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $67,642,693. ($212.1 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $150,642,693.

Pale Rider (1985)

"...And Hell followed with him."
His 11th film. It stars Eastwood, Michael Moriarty and Carrie Snodgress. A couple and their daughter, along with a few others, are driven out of Lahood, California, by goons working for a mining baron. However, a stranger enters their life to assist them in their fight.
There was no stopping Eastwood: another critical and commercial success.
  • Budget: $6,900,000.
  • Domestic gross: $41,410,568. ($120.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $41,410,568.

Heartbreak Ridge (1986)

"The scars run deep."
His 12th film. It stars Eastwood, Marsha Mason, Everett McGill, and Mario Van Peebles. The story centers on a U.S. Marine nearing retirement who gets a platoon of undisciplined Marines into shape and leads them during the American invasion of Grenada in 1983.
The film was inspired by an account of American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division using a pay telephone and a credit card to call in fire support during the invasion of Grenada, and fashioned a script of a Korean War veteran career Army non-commissioned officer passing on his values to a new generation of soldiers. Eastwood was interested in the script and asked his producer, Fritz Manes, to contact the US Army with a view of filming the movie at Fort Bragg. However, the Army read the script and refused to participate, due to Highway being portrayed as a hard drinker, divorced from his wife, and using unapproved motivational methods to his troops, an image the Army did not want.
It received mixed reviews, with some deeming the film as "imperialist propaganda". But it was still another box office success.
  • Budget: $15,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $42,724,017. ($121.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $121,700,000.

Bird (1988)

"There are no second acts in American lives."
His 13th film. The film stars Forest Whitaker and Diane Venora. It is constructed as a montage of scenes from saxophonist Charlie Parker's life, from his childhood in Kansas City, through his early death at the age of 34.
Eastwood, a lifelong fan of jazz, had been fascinated by Parker ever since seeing him perform live in Oakland in 1946. He approached Chan Parker, Bird's common-law wife on whose memoirs the script was based, for input, and she lent Eastwood and arranger Lennie Niehaus a collection of recordings from her private collection Before Eastwood was involved, Richard Pryor was originally cast as Parker.
Despitive positive reviews, it performed poorly, earning just $2.2 million in North America.
  • Budget: $14,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $2,181,286. ($5.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $2,181,286.

White Hunter Black Heart (1990)

"An adventure in obsession."
His 14th film. Based on the novel by Peter Viertel, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Fahey, George Dzundza, Alun Armstrong and Marisa Berenson. It follows a famous movie director, John Wilson, who goes to Africa to make his next movie. He is an obstinate, contrary director who'd rather hunt elephants than take care of his crew or movie. He has become obsessed with one particular elephant and cares for nothing else.
Despite positive reviews, it made just $2.3 million domestically, not even 10% of the budget.
  • Budget: $24,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $2,319,124. ($5.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $2,319,124.

The Rookie (1990)

His 15th film. The film stars Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Raul Julia, Sônia Braga, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Tom Skerritt. It follows a veteran police officer teamed up with a younger detective, whose intent is to take down a German crime lord in downtown Los Angeles, following months of investigation into an exotic car theft ring.
It received negative reviews for its acting and story, and it became another flop for Eastwood. That's three bombs in a row. Ouch.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $21,633,874. ($51.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $21,633,874.

Unforgiven (1992)

"Some legends will never be forgotten. Some wrongs can never be forgiven."
His 16th film. It stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Richard Harris and Morgan Freeman. It follows William Munny, a widower with two young kids, who was once a very vicious gunfighter who gave up everything after marriage. Now, a man named Schofield Kid brings him an offer that he cannot refuse, forcing him to come out of retirement for one last job.
David Webb Peoples wrote the script all the way back to 1976, and it was optioned by Francis Ford Coppola, but he lacked the funds needed to helm it. By Eastwood's own recollection, he was given the script in the "early 80s" although he did not immediately pursue it, because, according to him, "I thought I should do some other things first". Eastwood has long asserted that the film would be his last traditional Western, concerned that any future projects would simply rehash previous plotlines or imitate someone else's work. He dedicated the film to his close friends and mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel. Hackman initially refused to participate as his daughters were upset that he was starring in too many violent films, but he became fascinated by the script that he agreed.
It opened with $15 million and it legged all the way to $100 million after playing for almost one year, closing with $159 million worldwide, his now highest grossing film. The film received Eastwood's best reviews of his career, with many considering the film as his magnum opus as director. It received 9 Oscar nominations, and won four: Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Hackman, and Best Film Editing. So Eastwood, on top of being a reliable box office draw, was now a 2-time Oscar winner.
  • Budget: $14,400,000.
  • Domestic gross: $101,167,799. ($225.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $159,167,799.

A Perfect World (1993)

His 17th film. Kevin Costner, Eastwood and Laura Dern, and follows an escaped convict who takes a young boy hostage and attempts to escape on the road with the child, while being pursued by a Texas Ranger.
The film received critical acclaim, and has appeared as one of Eastwood's best films. The film disappointed in North America, but it earned up to $100 million overseas (Eastwood's first film to gross that much) and ended with $135 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,130,999. ($67.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $135,130,999.

The Bridges of Madison County (1995)

"The human heart has a way of making itself large again even after it's been broken into a million pieces."
His 18th film. Based on the novel by Robert James Waller, it stars Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The film is set in 1965, following a war bride, Francesca Johnson, who lives with her husband and two children on their Iowa farm. That year she meets National Geographic photojournalist, Robert Kincaid, who comes to Madison County, Iowa to photograph its historic covered bridges. With Francesca's family away for a short trip, the couple have an intense, four-day love affair.
It received more critical acclaim, and made over $180 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film. For her performance, Streep was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $22,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $71,516,617. ($146.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $182,016,617.

Absolute Power (1997)

His 19th film. Based on the novel by David Baldacci, it stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Judy Davis, Scott Glenn, Dennis Haysbert, and Richard Jenkins. It follows a master jewel thief who witnesses the killing of a woman by Secret Service agents.
It received mixed reviews, and disappointed at the box office.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $50,068,310. ($97.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $92,768,310.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)

"Welcome to Savannah, Georgia. A Ccty of hot nights and cold blooded murder."
His 20th film. Based on the book by John Berendt, it stars John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. It follows the story of antiques dealer Jim Williams, on trial for the killing of a male prostitute who was his lover. The multiple trials depicted in Berendt's book are combined into one trial for the film.
It received mediocre reviews, and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $25,105,255. ($48.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $25,105,255.

True Crime (1999)

His 21st film. Based on the novel by Andrew Klavan, it stars Eastwood, Isaiah Washington, Denis Leary, LisaGay Hamilton and James Woods. It follows a journalist covering the execution of a death row inmate, only to discover that the convict may actually be innocent.
This was another project that received mediocre reviews and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $16,649,768. ($31.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,649,768.

Space Cowboys (2000)

"Boys will be boys."
His 22nd film. It stars Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner as four aging former test pilots who are sent into space to repair an old Soviet satellite.
It received very positive reviews, and earned over $128 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $90,464,773. ($164 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $128,884,132.

Blood Work (2002)

"He's a heartbeat away from catching the killer."
His 23rd film. Based on the novel by Michael Connelly, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Daniels, Wanda De Jesús, and Anjelica Huston. It follows a retired FBI agent who recently had a heart transplant but still takes up the job to nab a killer.
It was another film with mediocre reviews and flop status.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $26,235,081. ($45.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $31,794,718.

Mystic River (2003)

"We bury our sins, we wash them clean."
His 24th film. Based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, it stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney. It follows three childhood friends who are reunited 25 years later when one of them suffers a family tragedy.
Michael Keaton was originally cast in the role of Det. Sean Devine, and did several script readings with the cast, as well as his own research into the practices of the Massachusetts Police Department. However, creative differences between Keaton and Eastwood led to Keaton leaving the production. He was replaced by Kevin Bacon. This was the first film in which Eastwood would be credited as composer.
The film had a slow roll-out, but it was aided by strong word of mouth, closing with a wonderful $156 million worldwide. It also received acclaim, and was named as one of Eastwood's greatest films. Sean Penn received universal acclaim for his performance, with some naming it among the best acting of the century, particularly for one scene (if you watched it, you definitely know which scene). It received 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood. It won two: Best Actor for Penn and Best Supporting Actor for Robbins.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $90,135,191. ($153 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $156,595,191.

2024.05.18 20:44 Hot_Highway_2632 Advice on finding pilot & Roast the idea

Hey, I am trying to build B2C startup focused on video editing using AI, I want your advice on getting my first few customers.
here everything I worked on : the app is text-based, web-based video editor, the goal is to save you time and cost wether you are a creator or an editor : - it can automatically find shorts in videos ( it creates a 1-2 minute video from any video talking head/explanation video on youtube) of course you can edit what the AI chose. - I have some algorhtims that detects mistakes in your shots and flag them for removal so it saves you time on editing. - I also connected it with b-roll platform, so the AI will try to find the best b-roll that matches what you are talking about, and add it to the video in the correct place. - also we use the AI to add emojis for the videos, we can output the shorts with emojis and famous styles like Alex Hermozi, Ali Abadaal ...etc .
I am trying to find pilots to test out the product with me for free. I sent out few cold emails I did not get any response, for each email I attached a sample video that I genereated in few minutes with the product. what do you think I can do?
p.s. I have no investment and no co-founder ..I am Machine Learning enigeer with few years of experience, I build a simple website to test everyhting (i am no designer though so I am paying someone to redesign it for me at the moment)

2024.05.18 20:37 RedVelvetKitties Abnormal pap- HPV Negative. Is it possible I had HPV in the past?

Hello, I 24f had an ASCUS result on my pap smear. “EPITHELIAL CELL ABNORMALITY ATYPICAL SQUAMOUS CELLS OF UNDETERMINED SIGNIFICANCE.”
They tested my sample for high risk HPV and I tested negative for HPV 16 and 18, and also the following other high risk types: 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68.
I was vaccinated with Gardasil4 in 2015, it covered the 4 main high risk hpv types, but it didn’t include the other high risk strains that are covered in Gardasil9.
Is it possible that I had HPV in the past and the abnormal result is from a past HPV infection that cleared? I know that you can have abnormal paps from yeast infections and menstruation, but I didn’t have a yeast infection and I wasn’t menstruating when I got the pap smear.

2024.05.18 20:27 JobeX [WTS] Parker 51 Special Cedar Blue - B SS Hooded Nib [D]

For sale today is a restored Parker 51 Special in Cedar Blue and silver. This pen has been restored and cleaned out and will hold the right amount of ink. I have tested the nib as well and it is big B nib which is a very uncommon size for these P51 Specials. They are made for them but I've seen only a handful in dozens.
The nib is an Octanium hooded nib, which is Parker's name for their Stainless Steel Material that appeared on their pens from this generation. The nib sizing is a B nib and it writes smoothly and reliably like it should. The B nib as stated earlier is an uncommon sizing for this pen.
The sac on this pen has darkened over time. This sac is the reliable original sac on this pen and it can last for a long time. The only time I see these sacs fail is when someone cuts or pokes a hole through them (I've seen it).
The body is in okay condition without much signs of wear except for microscratching but I cant see anything notable on it. The cap is what makes this pen a D. There is a small mark near the arrow of the clip on the cap (which happens often). The top jewel is in bad condition and the arrow has some plating loss along the arrow. The jewel has a spot on it that looks almost melted, as if someone put it near a heat source and its mis-shapened. The cap is the CORRECT cap with the black jewel on top for Parker 51 Specials.
This pen would be a great user grade pen for someone who wants to carry around a Parker 51 without worrying too much about losing or damaging an expensive pen or someone who is looking for that B nib to transplant onto another Parker 51 Special as they are uncommon.

The source control N100 disposable respirator : Baianda EF600 NIOSH N100
Hello again,
Here's a normal sized review, unlike my previous exhaustive posts. It's about a - not commonly spoken - high filtration efficiency respirator. Hope you enjoy it.

Introduction

I'm happy to introduce you the only N100 source control disposable of this shape on the market : The Baianda EF600 respirator.
Disclaimer
I personally chose the models i was interested in, as i thought they may be very good alternatives in respiratory protection. For all my new and old reviews you see here, i pay for the service/logistics/products. The only exception was Uniqon. Uniqon back in the day, volunteered to send me the samples, when i asked for distributors to purchase their products. Since that company mainly supplied hospitals/industries and didn't participate in the consumer business, it was impossible to find them online. For the Baianda respirators, i paid for the two masks + shipping fees + customs + vat. Τhis is an unbiased review, but from the perspective of a mask enthusiast.

Pricing and similar models

I purchased both N100 and KN100 disposables for 9.83$ each. Prices found in China and US, usually range for 18$-25$, for unknown reasons. Maybe, those were the 2020 marked up prices. There's also a Baianda OEM N100 disposable, the Parcil Safety DR04 N100. Similar disposable respirators from 3M, such as the 8233 N100, 8293 P100 and 8835+ ffp3 are listed equally high at ~10$. Many brands carry the same shape in different grades. For example, the Jinfuyu (JFY) 4301 P100 and a few more.
The competitors

Hands On

Unlike the 3M equivalents, the Baianda N100/KN100 respirators have already assembled the adjustable straps. Therefore, the product is ready for use, without wasting any time. The N100 version has the LOT number printed on the mask and the KN100 alternative the LA China sticker, that means the mask can be used by Chinese enterprises. The large external nose wire isn't as 'beefy' as it looks. It's easily bendable, but it doesn't play a major part, as the whole sealing job is done by the 'sticky' gasket. The inner gasket seals great around the face and closes any gaps, preventing any leakage. Companies that have similar 'sticky' gaskets, such as 3M, Makrite and others, will have an advantage fitting many different faces and providing high fit factors.
https://preview.redd.it/9u9drecn811d1.jpg?width=3993&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04bd8ad27a0af01dc575d7eb6c4be50343116f8e
N100 EF600
The breathing resistance is - of course - higher than the common N95/KN95/ffp2 respirators, but the construction of the mask somehow prevents a heat built-up on the inside. This respirator is suitable in specific industrial and healthcare settings, for workers who have to deal with very high particle concentrations and at the same time the source control is important.
Cleaning the gasket and readjusting the super wide straps if necessary, may 'unofficially' make the mask reusable. Using the Baianda multiple times for short periods will likely justify it's price and purpose on a consumer perspective.
Unfortunately, i haven't used any of the similar competitors from 3M yet to compare the size, fit and comfort. One thing's for sure, there's no unvalved alternative for this shape and grade, as far as i know.
The inner gasket
Pros
- Provides the ultimate protection in disposable respirators, if it fits.
- The only source control disposable at this grade (N100).
- The sticky gasket used by Baianda, similar to other companies is something like a 'cheat', in a good way, to achieve a nearly guarantee seal on adult faces.
- Even if the respirator is non reusable, under certain conditions and after cleaning the gasket, it can be reused. The wide headstraps will remain tight after use.

Cons
- Price is very high on this respirator and this also applies to it's rivals.
- Accessibility is another issue, as there is limited availability in the US and only found in super high prices. The KN100 version in China was available at the JD platform, on their official Baianda store, similarly priced at ~ 18$ , but out of stock.
- Pressure drop in top grade disposables is higher than normal consumer grades and the EF-600 is not an exception.
- The problem with sticky gaskets is that they can become sweaty in hot weather. A big sealing advantage may result in some discomfort on the long term for this kind of shape, under certain circumstances.
The big nose wire

Fit Test Results

I was curious getting the Baianda respirator, for the fact that i get excellent results in disposables with sticky gaskets. Most of the time, regardless of mask shape, i have side leaks on the right side of my cheek and less often around the nose, usually on small/medium sizes. My face is on the large size, therefore, for most of the adult disposables , i pass the fit tests, if the dimensions are right. A correct size is more vital for the perfect seal, regardless the shape of the mask to pass a fit test, at least for my face.
The LOT of the respirator indicates that it was produced during 2020 and the expiration date on the package is on 8/2025.The overall fit factor for the N100 models was 8127 under the osha protocol. I didn't want to sacrifice a fit test for the KN100 model, since it looked identical from the outside. Here are the detailed results for the EF-600:
Exercise / Μodel Baianda EF600 N100
Normal Breathing 17171
Deep breathing 3821
Head Side to Side 26693
Head Up and Down 53906
Talking 3493

Conclusion

Baianda is a serious company that mainly focuses in products for professionals on the industrial and healthcare safety. No coincidence NIOSH has given to them the N100 certification. Let's hope they can expand more in disposable respirators

2024.05.18 20:13 nymanashteggranlemtg OET Writing Test: Paid Service for Evaluation of Writing skills

I have my OET examination in 10 days. I am a native English speaker however I studied medicine in a different language and have been working for the last 10 plus years in my second language. I have never worked in a hospital environment in English. I am particularly worried about the English writing part of the OET. Is there a reputable service where I can send a sample of a referral letter to be honestly graded to see if I am ready for the OET test? I did the OET Pulse test and I passed easily however I felt like its format doesn't evaluate writing in a way that is similar to the real OET test. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks.

2024.05.18 20:09 er3019 How much of a pain would it be to buy a “classic” car with cash in a different state and register it in California to use as a daily driver?

There’s a 35 year old car (pre-OBD2) that I’ve wanted for many years and the only ones I can find in decent condition are far outside of the state. I was thinking about flying to the other state, buying the car, and driving it back to California once I eventually get the funds to do so. How much of a headache would this be to do? What about if I buy it from an out-of-state dealership vs an out-of-state private seller? I know California is strict about emissions, so is there a way to check in the other state if it will pass California’s smog test before I buy it?

Saturday Ammo Buy - 5 Country Surplus (+Mystery Box): Roast Me
So a friend of a friend was selling surplus .30 cal and a crap ton of .308 (7.62x51 NATO).
Somewhere in the realm of 3,500 rounds.
Got it for a steel. 😂
Speaking of attributes of this ammo: - some was brass, (2,400 of those guys) but the rest may be steel - 4 different country's battle packs in essence: South African, Venezuelan, German and then the mystery tin.
I've heard the SA is using berdan and very corrosive, and that the Venezuelan might be substandard loads.
The mystery box intrigues me - I really don't wanna crack it open.
Other than how much did it all cost (give me your best guess!), what should AI be aware of and what might be a good test bench platform to put samples of all these happy beans through?
Thanks in advance.
