A lot of people have been commenting on one of my posts saying Kelly would never wanna be a Chief. I don't think that is true. Case in point Season 5 (Anna Days) he was the top spot for BC in Springfield, IL I can't remember the exact reason he didn't take it it was either because his dad Benny set it up or he wanted to stay in Chicago or a mix of both

Toronto maggots: I just posted 2 single tickets for $125 CAD each on Ticketmaster.
Not sure if this is allowed, but for anyone interested: I totally forgot that I had a wedding that weekend and won’t be able to attend this show. The tickets are single seats in section 121, rows 19 and 20, seats 3 and 4. So you and your buddy will be directly in front/behind each other. I know some people got screwed by the bots in the presales, and almost all of the resale tickets are way higher in price currently. I’d much rather see someone have a blast and enjoy themselves without having to pay more than they should. Stay (Sic).

2024.05.05 20:18 macmarauder19 Genuine Question, where on earth do the Leafs go from here?

After yet another first-round series collapse (let alone to Boston) in this era, the Leafs have some hard decisions to make this spring and summer. It has reached a point where even the most diehard fans now realize the status quo is unacceptable moving forward. In many areas, there is a chance change can happen, but also not happen.
Here are my thoughts on the many facets of the Leafs but I'd like to know all of yours as well
Shanahan
10 years with this team and the Shanaplan has ONE playoff series win to show for himself. He certainly bought himself some more time by firing Dubas amid last year's drama, but now the spotlight is back on him after last night. He made the decision to hand the reigns to Dubas, who then handed out 8-figure contracts and NMC's like they were halloween candy, crippling the financial flexibility of the front office to round out the team's bottom six and defence year in and year out. Even HE wanted to extend Dubas before all that nonsense went down between them.
I can definitely see him getting fired, now that MLSE has a new CEO. I can also see him finishing out his last year of his contract (only if Keefe is fired, more on that)
Treliving
Barring a disaster, he absolutely keeps his job. He did his best trying to clean up the mess Shanahan and Dubas left him and will continue to do so. He made some good signings (Bertuzzi, Domi) and some bad ones (Reaves, Klingberg). He certainly has his work cut out for him in yet another important summer.
His biggest head scratcher was extending Keefe for another 2 years before this season began. Literally no idea why he would even entertain that idea, let alone actually offer that to him before seeing if he could build off of last years "progress" in the playoffs.
(I say "progress" because yeah winning a series after 19 years of failure is great and all, but going from winning 3 playoff games to 5 playoff games hardly moves the needle, if at all. You need to win 16 games to hoist the stanley cup, and 5 is still a long way away from that milestone).
Keefe
He SHOULD be fired. Yeah he's the bench boss of record setting leafs regular season success, but also the bench boss where the leafs get outcoached in EVERY single playoff series. He deflects and makes excuses at every single turn whenever criticized and looks so unfit to lead a playoff team. But hey, at least he got respect in the handshake line that one year!
No idea why he got extended, which is making me think he may be able to somehhow stay on. I'm sure MLSE doesn't want another repeat of the Babcock situation where they paid him for 4 years to sit at home. Considering they got a new CEO and it's only for 2 years, never say never.
Core 4
Stating the obvious, Matthews and Nylander are not getting moved. End of discussion.
John Tavares though, he's probably staying. Not because he's a valuable contributor on the ice, but because nobody would want to trade for him at his present cap hit.
Forget about his NMC for a second, if he were to even have any possibility of getting traded, the Leafs would have to retain AT LEAST 2/3 of his salary and maybe throw in a draft pick on top of that. He's just not the top-6 center he used to be anymore. Dubas signing him to that contract meant the team was banking on winning a cup in the first half of that deal, and handle the consequences of that cap hit later. The famous "We can and we will" backfired tremendously.
The leafs certainly won't buy him out either. I'm sure they'd want to just finish out his contract and get it over with, rather than deal with his cap hit at a reduced figure for 2-3 years after.
Will he re-sign with the leafs? Who knows. There's no way he'd be making more than $5M AAV on his next contract with them. He'd have to swallow his "Honour. Pride. Courage." if he wants to stay with his hometown childhood team. He would definitely have to slot in on the 3rd line after next season if he were to sign another contract with the leafs. Big decision to make on both ends here
Mitchie Marner. Oh boy. The number one choice for the chopping block and rightfully so. Sure we can look at his regular season production and the underlying analtyics of team play in the playoffs (which show he elevates the team's expected goals for on 5v5 play when he's on the ice). But come on. Guy does NOT pass the eye test when it comes to being a successful playoff hockey player. He plays scared, afraid to get hit and battle for the puck, too indecisive and thinks it's junior hockey out there LOL. To think they're paying a $10.903M price tag for him to cower and just skate around in the playoffs can't sit well with anyone in the front office. And to think he'll probably walk into Treliving's office and ask for a raise is just plain insanity. The negotiating table is the only place where he shows the amount of fight and determination fit for a stanley cup champion.
I've been saying since the Montreal collapse 3 years ago that he needs to be traded. Either then or before July 1st 2023 would've been a great time to move on. But now he's got a full NMC kicked in. How on earth do the leafs work around this?
I can certainly see him telling the leafs to piss off and play out the last year of his contract and start fresh elsewhere in 2025. At the end of the day, it's up to him (and only him) if he wants to leave. If this were to happen, I wonder if the Leafs would play dirty by banishing him to the 4th line and kicking him off the PP units and bully him into waiving it.
Now that the vitriol from the media and fanbase is more intense than he's ever dealt with (and will continue to intensify), I can see him waiving the clause for a fresh start. But what on earth could you get in return for one year of Marner after yet another pathetic playoff showing? He'd have to approve of where the team would trade him to. I can't see him wanting to go to a basement, cap-rich team like Anaheim, Chicago or San Jose. There's been a lot of discourse about a 1 for 1 swap with Utah for Clayton Keller from armchair GMs everywhere. If he wanted to go to a good team, Leafs would almost certainly have to retain salary and maybe throw in a sweetener (and maybe find another team to help broker a deal).
It's going to be yet another drama-filled summer for this core 4, perhaps the penultimate summer and maybe the end of the road. Buckle up.
The Forwards
I can't see Bertuzzi staying. He bet on himself to have a great year in Toronto to get a bag this summer. He did alright, but probably hoped for more. Depends on where he wants to go and who would want to pay him
I can see Domi sticking around, money's gotta be right though.
I never understood the contracts that were handed to Kampf and Reaves. Paying $2.4M AAV for a 4th line center is wild, same with paying $1.35M AAV to an absolute plug but hey, he brought the snot piss and vinegar that would send the leafs over the hump right?! Right?!
Make every effort to lock up Knies before his value increases further. He was the hardest working forward in the playoffs who rose to the occasion. Whether it's a bridge deal or a long-term signing, lock him up.
I have no idea what will happen with Dewar, Gregor and Robertson. I didn't really pay any attention to them so I won't make any comments.
Maybe it's time to bring up the young guns like Cowan and Minten into the mix and see what they can do?
Defence
All the UFA defencemen (Brodie, Edmundson, Giordano and Lyubushkin) are gone. Only one I'd bother trying to keep is Edmundson.
Liljegren is still 2 years away from being 2 years away. Re-sign him if they must, but stop expecting him to figure it out.
Extend McCabe if the money's right.
Look to the trade market or free agency. If Marner is able to be moved, throw the bag at a couple guys capable of moving the puck. Ideally these new additions would move Rielly down to the 2nd pairing because he's just not a top dog kind of defender.
Goaltending
Samsonov is gone. That's obvious.
The crease belongs to Woll, hopefully he can stay healthy.
I'd bring back Martin Jones as the backup again for another year. He stepped in admirably when called on and fared well.
Matt Murray, just walk away and enjoy life dude. Getting both hips replaced at age 29 is messed up. You got your money, you got your cups, focus on doing what you want to do.
I've said my pieces, I'd love to hear what you guys think about the future of the leafs that's clearly hanging in the balance. It's entirely possible that any of the changes that happen don't move the needle, but hey, you don't know unless you take the leap and try
An example of which would be the Panthers 2 years ago. They were president's trophy winners but got swept by Tampa in the 2nd round. Instead of sticking by their longtime core and running it back (which they would've been absolutely valid to do so), they were aggressive as hell and made a big swing, knowing how competitive the East is. Trading Huberdeau and Weegar (2 longtime core pieces) for Tkachuk wasn't as easy move to make (and was widely criticized as a blunder at the time). But now look at what's happened since. The Flames are in purgatory with some aging players and bad contracts, while the Panthers will likely win the East again this year.
Change is never easy, and these conversations over the next few weeks within the team will be difficult. But change could be the difference from being a good team to being a great team.
This off-season will be a crazy one, buckle up folks.

Not even noon yet PST and less than 10k away from yesterday’s mark. Requested refund on all Sony games in my library (not realistic but still downvoted my other games). Ignored Sony as a content creator on Steam. Forbes released an article commenting on how bad this situation is, even pointing out the Ukrainian stuff. It was concise and above board. I encourage anyone with any other Sony games to downvote them. FOR SUPER EARTH!

Not sure what this brown on the leaves means
I purchased two Chicago Hardy fig trees from Costco about a week ago and planted them immediately. When I bought them, as far as I can recall, they seemed perfectly healthy. But soon after planting them, the leaves started developing this brown stuff. I can’t figure out what this is, it doesn’t seem to match the description of either rust or blight because it’s pure brown, there’s no other colors like yellow or orange and it doesn’t seem to start out as spots.
I planted the trees very carefully, without disturbing their roots. I dug a hole twice as big as the pot. Filled the hole with a mix of the old soil and new garden soil mixed with compost purchased from Costco.

A Non-Professionals ONR+Wax First Impressions/ Review
Hi Everyone!
I lived in my apartment now for the past few years and I’d only rely on the coin op or touchless machine wash for the duration of that time.
I’ve share the results from that previous process before and got some good feedback and browsed this sub for a while looking at how others wash. You don’t have to be on this sub very long to become used to seeing “ONR” thrown around like nobody’s business.
I never bothered to look into what “onr” is so I ignored it and I honestly kind of regret it. So here’s my process;
Supplies: ONR + Wax Big Red Sponge Mothers Detail spray (I love this stuff) A big ass MF Drying Towel I bought from autozone 3 gallon bucket (no grit guard)
The context: Apartment dweller, in a northern suburb of Chicago, fairly dusty/ pollinated area.
Process: I more or less followed the process on ONRs YouTube video. 2 gallons water in a bucket, with 2 capfuls of onr. Mix it, and soak the sponge in it, wring it out till it’s just dripping a bit, then front to back motion on a panel not putting too much pressure.
Then drying the panel by spraying with the detail spray as a drying agent and using the MF towel.
I take my time and start to finish maybe took a hour and thirty minutes. Which I can probably do in a shorter time provided the car wasn’t already slightly wet from rain last night.
Results: I think the pictures speak for themselves but I’m really happy with it!! I don’t notice any scratches or webbing/ marks at least that occurred from this and things look pretty damn clear to me. I would have wanted the ONR to leave a bit more of a smooth glassy feel to the car itself but honestly the detail spray remedies that pretty quick so no big deal. It’s supposed to rain here in a couple days so we shall see how the beading is for it.
As of now I recommend it! Seems like Ittl save me some decent money as when I go to my coin op place it’s usually $12-$15 bucks for me (I take my time) as I try to go once a week.

15 free codes for THE CABINET OF MODERN SILENT CINEMA instrumental electro-acoustic guitar album
15 free Bandcamp DL codes for the new Modern Silent Cinema album, The Cabinet of Modern Silent Cinema (released May 3 from Bad Channels Records). For the 20th anniversary of the project (lo-fi electro-acoustic experimental guitar instrumentals), I'm releasing 6 albums. This is the third, an archival mix of tracks gone astray over the years, microcassette musings, tape demos, and three guitar duets. Codes/link below!
"Omnifarious sounds spraying from the fluidity of a long waterfall. The groove is raw, holding a warmth many listeners will most ebulliently absorb. The quality of recording harks back to early delta blues 78's with connective sonic gems sown throughout. Sometimes there is a feeling this is a lost Fahey or Basho recording, low-fi and a wanderer of tempos and styles. At other times there is the definitive resonance of a much more modern era. Rhythms built with multiple tracks as selections form with sonic sophistication and elegance. Then, back on the train to Chicago to get paid for another two sides of American roots.
