2024.05.15 22:08 ResBall Are regular jeans acceptable for a 50cc scooter šŸ›µ going around town?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I was gifted a Honda metropolitan after my friend moved and I have a jacket and helmet from when I took an MSF course a while back but never ended up buying a motorcycle.
This thing does 30mph if youā€™re going downhill with the wind at your back I feel like most e-bikes could beat it in a race, but itā€™s still kind of fun to play around with cruising to town and back.
That being said, will a helmet jeans and gloves suffice for this thing?

2024.05.12 04:37 Relative_Copy8647 Is there a way to get frame protectors for scooters?

I know its a thing for motorcycles but does it exist for scoots?
I have a 2024 Honda metropolitan and I took a bit of a tumble taking a turn a bit too fast and scuffed up the plastic.
I already ordered paint to fix it but I'm a beginner so I was wondering if such a product existed for scooters or if anyone had any recommendations

2024.05.09 09:56 Round-Equal1163 Scooter advice

Scooter advice
Been in the market for used scooters and I found a preowned Honda Metropolitan 2003 with 7800 miles on it. Kinda up there in miles but itā€™s a Honda and looks very well taken care of. The guy did say that it Runs loud and wonā€™t get up to full speed. Probably needs a carburetor cleaning and new air filter.
I donā€™t mind cleaning the carb and putting in a new air filter. Do yall think itā€™s worth pulling the trigger and getting the scoot? The guy is asking $800 but I offered $600 due to age, mileage and labor.
Also note, some minor cracking of the plastic as well but Iā€™d probably just tape it or glue it tbh.

2024.05.08 20:25 MysteriousMath1213 Honda metropolitan wonā€™t start

I recently purchased a 2002 Honda metropolitan on marketplace. Was running great and started up first crank when I bought it. Then after riding it for a few hours it bogged down and stopped and hasnā€™t started since. I have checked and fuel is getting to the carburetor. The itā€™s got plenty of air(although the filter was quite dirty it has since been replaced) and it has a brand new spark plug that works great. Bike still turns over and electric start works fine. Just not sure what it could be. Any ideas? Please help!

2024.05.08 07:48 diefncy Got a New Job 50 Miles Away with a 2.5x Salary Increase. Current Car is a No Go.

For the past 6 years, I've been driving a 2017 Ford Focus RS, which I loved, but have been growing out of. The lingering backpain I've gotten from Driving stick as well as now living in a metropolitan area, MT is no longer an option for me. Alongside this, I've been making right around $30k/yr for that entire time, and just got a job making ~$75k/yr with conversion to low 6 figs over the next few years. This is great and all, however, I live on the complete opposite side of the city from the location ~45-50 miles, thankfully I will only be working 3 days driving Highway for 42/45 of the miles each way. Moving is not an option due to costs, s.o.'s job, and the high cost of early lease termination. I realistically need something that can handle that longer commute for 2 years minimum, but plan on keeping and running up the odo.
Thankfully, I was smart and paid off the RS, so now have around a $25-35k budget to work with. I live in the Desert, so Full EV is something I am slightly weary of due to battery degradation, but would be open to a Hybrid. I'm not really looking for a fun cruising/speed demon vehicle and have a short-ish list of things I'd like:
Nothing on my "like" list is a requirement, I'm very flexible, but would prefer a newer vehicle with a warranty incase shtf?
So far my list, in no particular order, is:
My list does not include anything I am set on. Just picks based off of limited research/personal experience. Suggestions are appreciated.
Edit I do not want to purchase a New Vehicle off the lot. CPO/Used for me.

2024.05.05 05:57 Memknock6699 K&N filter worth it?

K&N filter worth it?
Is it worth the upgrade on a 2024 stock ruckus? Putting in the polini high-performance variator, switching the weights to 5.5 Dr pulley, changing out the spark plug to the ngk iridium cr9ehix-9 one, Cdi all will be installed next weekend. Is it worth it to put it in now or at all with everything I mentioned above?

2024.05.01 20:16 Throwawayne617 Help with 2017 Honda Metropolitan

Hi everyone. Just picked up a Honda metro and I am looking for a tail break bulb. I was hoping to pick up an upgraded LED bulb that is bright (for safety) and long lasting. I looked at the book and it says 12V-21/5W. Any idea how to translate that to LED?

2024.04.29 20:27 Fantastic-Earth-5291 Opinions for First Scooter

Looking at 2005 Honda Metropolitan as my first scoot. Has 4211 miles and looks to be in really good physical shape. Asking $1,200. Is this a good price. Also I am a bit larger, 6'1" 260. Should I be concerned about my size for this. Use will be a 3.5 mile in town commute to work during the warm months.
My feeling is to start with something like this at 50cc and if I get the use I think I will from it, upgrade to something in the 125-200cc category at a later time that I can take longer distances. The other reason for the 50cc is there would be no special license needed and I have one in college and another going in a year that I could pass this off to if I were to upgrade. They would learn to ride on this as well.
The other one I am considering is a 2022 "new" Kymco Agility 50 at $1,700.
Any information, guidance, or suggestions would be appreciated.

2024.04.28 18:40 Arnie_T Question on Buddy 125 Deal

So I had a 2024 Honda Metropolitan for about 6 months and only put 57 miles on it. It got very little use since I had my car and I live rural. With me on it (200lb) it would push 35. I decided I needed one that went faster so that I expand the distance I can go (i.e. keep up with the speed limit at 55 or so.) I didn't have nor want to spend any money though. I did call the dealership I bought the Metropolitan from and they said they would only give me $1700 for it. Anyways, there is a small powersports dealer nearby and I called him. He sells Buddy and some other brands. He offered a straight trade for my 2024 Metro for his 2013 Buddy 125 with 950 miles on it. The Buddy 125 is clean. It had been laid down but not at high speed based on the scrapes. Probably just a few miles an hour. Drove it and it works fine. Dealer ordered me some touch up paint. I'm having issues with the engine run switch (have to flip it up and down for it to start. I just leave it in the engine "on" position for the moment and it starts fine) and he's replacing that. I'm sure the almost brand new Honda will be something that he can sell for more and faster than this used Buddy so that's what he gets out of the deal. I get a very low mileage Buddy that goes faster like I want but I don't have to spend a penny (he even paid the title and registration fees.) Was this an OK trade? I guess I'm only questioning whether I should have paid some money ($1,000 or so?) and went new on the Buddy OR just paid the extra $3500 to upgrade to the next step Honda? Thoughts?
EDIT: I looked at it kind of like I paid $1700 for a used Buddy 125 with 951 miles on it (considering the $1700 is what the dealer would give me for it and I didn't want to mess with a private sale.) It also has a windshield already installed on it (which I would want to add) so there is also value there. Plus the dealer is going to service it free the first time.

2024.04.25 08:12 land8844 Acquiring my FIL's 1980 Honda XR500 soon

So I'm not exactly new to motorcycles, but I am new to "vintage" motorcycles and dual sports in general. I've ridden a few older bikes and currently own a modified Honda Metropolitan, but this will be my first "real" bike to own, for free no less.
Some questions:
  1. How difficult would it be to get this thing street legal? As I understand, the XR is the competition version of the XL and was never offered in street-legal trim.
  2. What's the best way to convert it from 6V AC to a proper 12V DC system? I can figure it out, but I'd like to know if there's already a kit or some best known method out there so I'm not reinventing the wheel here.
  3. It is in rough shape. FIL laid it down 16 years ago and it's been buried in the back of his shed ever since. This pic doesn't do it justice. The left side of the handlebar is also snapped clean off, controls included, so I know it won't be rideable until I really fix it up.
  4. Best place to find parts, and tips for modernizing it a bit?
I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty, neither carbs nor electrical work scares me, and I'm more than willing to spend a bit of time doing things right.

2024.04.24 23:56 Wise_Property3362 What's a good scooter for delivery

I can't afford a car so I'm looking into commuting by scooter I need something quite so I can take it on bike paths and preferably something that can pass for 50cc as I have no money for insurance/registration.
So far I'm thinking Honda metropolitan with a beefier engine if that's possible. I'm also looking for something than can do a long distance trip if need be though this would be a rarity. My budget is 2 to 3k.

Rate this pay plan 1-10 10 being highest and why please
Applied to this place recently, walked in and spoke to the ā€œGSMā€ and thought it went really well. He texted me two days later and he sent this over. Need some assistance on understanding if this a good pay plan. The dealership is located right on a major highway and itā€™s both a Chrysler store and a ford store. Iā€™ll be able to do both later down the road but starting need to be certified in one brand first then the other. I will be able to do used as well.
Spoke to my brother whoā€™s a ā€œGSMā€ in another state and he said it isnā€™t too bad the only problem he had was the unit volume bonus how it doesnā€™t start out until 15. He says that the market can be strong there but in his market (metropolitan area in the DMV) only Toyota stores and Honda stores where sales people are selling 40+ cars
