2024.05.19 07:31 boyfriendbutts I own the title to my car, now what?

A little under 2 years ago, I was in an accident that totaled my car. The situation is a bit confusing, but I am going to try to describe what happened as best as I can. I live in the city and my daily parking space is on a two way street where each side has extra room for parallel parking. The accident occurred when I was leaving for work one morning. I was maneuvering my car to leave my parallel parking position, when I was hit by a person coming down the same side of the street. They hit my front left wheel causing the axel to snap completely. The person that hit me called 911 and then we proceeded to exchange insurance information. I was issued a ticket at the scene by the police officer and both of our cars were towed to what the officer referred to as the “police impound lot” I reported the accident to my insurance company, however I only have liability insurance, so they did not help cover the cost of the accident. I decided to go to my court date instead of paying the ticket. When I went in front of the judge, they dismissed my case for lack of evidence and I went home without a ticket. During this time almost 2 months had passed and I called the tow lot that the police had towed me to, to try to figure out what was going on with my car. I was told that I had to pay $2000 + to get my car out or it would be getting sold at auction. I did not have the money at the time to pay to get my totaled vehicle out of the tow lot or to fix it. I was also stuck with paying the rest of the loan I had taken out for my car, which was about $6500.
All in all I felt very stuck and had no clue what to do. So, I have just been biking around the city and to and from work for about two years now while the loan was getting paid off. Which, as of this month has been done successfully and I received the title to my totaled car in the mail the other day and…. I just don’t know what to do with it.
I have the title and a paid off loan, but I have no car still and am currently working on saving for a new vehicle. Do I just store the paper away with my documents? Do I shred it? What do it do?…..

I am in the process of evaluating new cars but I also like to save a buck so I would like guidance on what this community feels like the best used or new car values are. Typically I would buy a vehicle, New, or 3 years used. Due to the pandemic it may need to be 5 years used. No vehicles older than 10 years unless they are exceptionally reliable.
Here is my situation:

2024.05.19 00:56 OliveSmucker Is this what adulthood is?

Just worrying about finances?
I'm single, I live in a small apartment on my own. I worry about money a lot. I'm not some entry level job worker either.
Yet, every single month, I'm just sad looking at how much money I have left over after bills are paid. Knowing that I'll never be able to buy a house. Knowing that even if I wanted kids, I could never fucking afford kids. Hell, I can't even afford a cat or a dog (and take care of them properly).
This past month my account got hammered. A bill from a doc's visit 3 months ago finally came in the mail. I had to pay 430 bucks in dental bills for fillings and a crown. I had my 6-month car insurance bill come due (which I have the bare minimum liability only insurance for). I had to dip quite a bit into savings for this month.
Sure, there are ways I could have paid out less this month, pay my car insurance monthly, asked the dentist to only fill the worst cavities, do a payment plan on the doc visit bill. So I guess I'm grateful I have the money to pay all those in full.
But goddamn dude. I'm in my 30's and it doesn't feel like I'm making any progress in life. I don't have any hobbies anymore because everything is so goddamn expensive. I don't do anything. I'm at my computer on a weekend just browsing reddit because it's free and kills time.
Life is just work, sleep, eat, reddit and youtube on the weekends and that's fucking it. What kind of an existence is that.

2024.05.19 00:33 iktikn Sale by owner wants $11,000+ to test rive his 2011 Veloster

First off the guy said he lived in my county/city. Turns out he's a 45 minute drive from me, and didn't even consider meeting halfway. He's been blowing me up to come see it, and I have no time. I thought that since he's so close to me, I maybe I can stop by for a few quick questions, a ride along, and maybe a test drive. It's a lot easier to rob a little stack of cash, than it is to steal a car. I believe my insurance will cover any car I drive, but I also understand a crashed and repaired car is way diferent than one with no accident history.
What should I expect to bring to test drive a car? I only have liability right now, but again I'm pretty sure it covers any car I drive.

2024.05.19 00:23 NickHodges Door Dash Auto Insurance Question

Door Dash Auto Insurance Question
Okay, so I recently discovered that my car insurance doesn't cover me why dashing. Okay, probably should have known that.
They do offer "Rideshare Gap" coverage, protecting me during the time I am dashing and NOT actively delivering. DoorDash covers me when I'm actively delivering a customer order but they say this:
https://preview.redd.it/re26gzn0g91d1.png?width=712&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd920dc28abd088c2a70c59d671f49a97dc0214a
So, if I read that right, DoorDash will cover my liability in an accident, but they won't repair my car if I am at fault in an accident?
Do I have that right?

2024.05.18 22:56 TobleroneTuesday Invitation revoked due to legal clearance

I'm a little shell shocked, so I apologize if this doesn't translate correctly. I've spent the last 9 months in the application process, even years longer working to meet qualifications to serve.
I served in Americorps, so I was without a personal vehicle (or a substantial paycheck) for about two years. I cancelled out my liability vehicle insurance as a result. When I got home, I didn't have the money for the insurance right away. The week I was accepted for my PC term, I drove to a summer job interview, with the intent to buy insurance with my first paycheck. I got the job, luckily!
On the drive home, someone ran a stop sign at an intersection and hit my vehicle. My vehicle was totalled, and I received a 460 dollar ticket for lack of liability. Family drove me home, and that night when I caught my breath I emailed PC legal staff, disclosing the incident. This is the only legal issue I've ever had. They never replied. I was told by other PC staff that Legal replies if they need to, in their own time, and that with how busy they were it was best not to reach out and risk slowing them down further.
Months later, I still hadn't received clearance. Onboarding paperwork asked if I had received a ticket for over 300, so I said yes. I then called staff to ask about the ticket, and if there was any follow up paperwork needed. They found the email I sent and said, "oh, wow we should have replied to this email, sorry. Yes, we will send you the paperwork." I filled out the paperwork and sent it in.
A few weeks later, my application has been revoked, via email with no context.
I have emailed, asking if it could be appealed. If not, I've asked if I could still be eligible to reapply. My departure date is 20 days away. I've already done so much preparation, we've had a "going away" celebration. For others who have dealt with this, how did you move forward?

2024.05.18 22:23 lildebbs Question about legal document

Hi there! I have been granted permission to use my office at my full time job (private php/iop tx center) to see therapy clients of my own, after normal business hours.
I need to find or create a document stating that the tx center will not be liable for my clients or myself/anything that happens related to me working in that space after hours - I have my own liability insurance and their blessing. It’s a beautiful office and I’m so excited for this opportunity (and not having to pay any overhead, rent, percentage!!!!!)
However, I started looking online and am pretty overwhelmed bc I don’t know what specifically I’m looking for.
ISO recommendations for online services/templates to use to get this off the ground. TIA!

I am looking to purchase some professional liability insurance! I'm on a 10 month contract that ends the beginning of June, and I plan on doing per diem work over the summer through go4. I see that they have a prof liability plan as well as the NATA, but I am unsure of which to go with. If you have any experience please let me know!

2024.05.18 21:27 killa_k99 Early Hornets Big Board: Fits I like for Dah Bugz

The draft is coming up and even though this is a perceived weak class there are some scenarios of players we can get that I'm very excited about and I'm curious what you guys think.
Tier 1A: Reed Sheppard
I'm heads over heels in love with the idea of Sheppard in Charlotte. I think our two biggest needs as a team right now first and foremost a point-of-attack/off-ball guard defender and not close behind that in second a guard that has some explosive ability on offense to both play next to and takes on ball handling duties without LaMelo. I feel that Reed was borderline made in a lab to address those needs.
Let's start on offense. Sheppard is a marksman. The guy shot above 50% from three for the duration of the season on 4 attempts a game. He also has a smooth quick release that will allow him to be able to get his shot off against NBA-level defense in my opinion.
He also showed the ability to play both on and off the ball and thrive with a number of different guards with different skill sets at Kentucky.
He also showed extremely highly basketball character in accepting an extremely underserved bench role without ever complaining at Kentucky when frankly he was the best player on the team. He shows some juice as a playmaker he averaged 4.5 assists per game in just 29 minutes off the bench with a lot of those minutes being spent off the ball.
Multiple guard lineups are all the rage these days but it's a lot more complicated than just sticking two guys together and saying you can never have enough playmaking See Garland and Mitchell in Cleveland and Young and Murray in Atlanta.
Reed I feel fits seamlessly in the best-case scenario of LaMelo being a healthy ball-dominant All-Star and also provides nice insurance for the scenario where LaMelo remains unhealthy.
Now for defense, this is an interesting discussion.
From appearances alone, Sheppard looks like a nightmare on defense. He is only 6'3" with a 6'3" wingspan. He is not a very explosive athlete laterally (we will get to his vertical later). But simply writing off Reed based on that is a mistake.
The guy is maybe the best hustle defensive stat player I have ever seen. He averaged 2.5 steals per game off the bench at his size and even more absurdly averaged nearly one block per game at .7.
That's where that 42-inch vertical comes into play. He had 2 fewer blocks on the season than Kentucky's starting center. Sheppard hustles like hell off of the ball and reads passing lanes exceptionally.
He can be exposed in 1 on 1 situations by size and speed to such an extent that he will never make an all-defense team but he's far from a liability in total on defense and is any many ways an asset. He brings an effort and intensity to that side that we really lack.
While he does lack the elite physical traits of a plus defender, he certainly punches above his weight and is an upgrade to anything that we have had at the position in quite some time.
As far as making a comparison, I think Fred VanVellet on the Raptors is a similar mold to what I think Reed can be here.
FVV started off as a UDFA who slowly made his way up the Raptors rotation.
FVV is even smaller than Sheppard at 6'0". But, he also is a player that punches above his weight defensively.
While he was their backup point guard behind their All-Star in Kyle Lowry, FVV also became an excellent off-the-ball player there, especially during their title run.
Sadly, I think there is a good chance Sheppard is off of the board by the time we get to pick 6.
There is some downside of him being a tweener who is neither a truly explosive player at the point guard position and too small to be a high impact at the 2. In that scenario, I think his career could follow somewhat of a Luke Kennard, Grayson Allen arc.
But I absolutely love this pick and am rushing it in if I am Jeff Peterson and he's on the board at 6.
Tier 1: Stephon Castle
Not gonna lie, I came into this wanting to hate Castle. I looked at him as a non-shooter, who was riding the hype of a UConn team that won the title and thought that his desire of being a more ball dominant player was unfounded.
But as I've looked into him I've gotten really comfortable with him being the guy at 6.
Starting with the positives, as I said earlier, the Hornets' biggest need to me is a point-of-attack defender at the guard position and Stephon Castle is that guy.
He showed amazing defensive chops at UConn and was trusted with some of the toughest assignments in major games. He's 6'6" got good size for his age at 19 in 210 pounds and a 6'9" wingspan.
To have the defensive presence and acumen he did for a team more focused on winning the title than it was at developing NBA talent at his age was highly impressive.
I think he can guard both guards and wings at his size and do both at a higher level than Sheppard approaching that all-defense ceiling.
The offense is where his age did show he very much looked like a freshman at times with just inconsistencies throughout his game.
His jump shooting was sporadic at best and more often than not just poor. He only shot 26.7% from 3.
He did get hot at times and is a decent free throw shooter at 75% so while hope is not lost on that end. Banking on him being a good shooter in the next 2-3 years is far from a guarantee.
Castle is adamant that he has more juice with the ball in his hands than he showed at UConn and wants more opportunities to play the 1 in the NBA.
While his offensive profile would concern me greatly if I were a team building around him as my lead guard. I do think that playing with LaMelo and Brandon will give him the space to add a little more juice to his game while not having too much creation responsibility.
This comparison is a lot more friendly than it sounds but I think a possible deluxe version of Nickeil Alexander-Walker for the Timberwolves could be the mold for Castle. Great defender that has more guard skills on offense than you typically get from someone who can defend 1-3 but not enough guard skill to really be happy if he was ever your lead guard.
If LaMelo can stay healthy, I do really like the idea of him coming along slowly as the defensive connective tissue and connector on offense in between LaMelo and Bradon.
Tier 2: Donavan Clingan, Nikola Topic
I am decidedly less excited about both of these options than the first two but there are some things to like.
Clingan could come in immediately and I feel replicate the role that Brook Lopez and Kristaps Porzingis played as drop coverage rim protectors for Charles Lee in Milwaukee and Boston.
He also shows some nice traits as a passer which could carry over from the things Boston's does with KP and Al Horford.
I think Clingan could be worth it even if we have confidence that Mark Williams' back injury will be fine in the long term. Look at Dallas with Gafford and Livley; their ability to have that caliber of center play at all times is a huge asset.
Downside for Clingan is he's a very poor free throw shooter and will be a hack-a-shaq target more than likely/
His upside on offense really isn't there, it's really a what you see is what you get proposition.
Topic, if we take him it's really getting into a best player available proposition because I really do not love the fit here.
He's a very high IQ player, and shows some really nice crafty traits and tricks of the trade. He's played at a high level professionally as a teen all of which are great.
However, I think he really does lack zip and explosiveness with the ball in his hands, he's a pretty stiff and rigid mover that kinda plays like he's stuck in one gear on offense. He struggled to shoot the ball only making 26 threes in 22 games.
That lack of explosiveness shows on defense as well where I found him be pretty poor.
He is a good free throw shooter so there is possibly some upside to the jump shot. He's a very smart player who I do think takes good angles and does crafty things to get to the rim and get downhill and playmaker for others so I do see how he can at least develop that out to the mid-range area.
He reminds me a lot of Josh Giddey, who is currently a bad fit with SGA and Jalen Williams, two players that I view as a very good blueprint of how I would like to see the team be built around LaMelo and Brandon.
On the high side of outcomes for Topic, I could see Goran Dragic on the Heat and possibly even a little bit of Franz Wagner, and I do think he is the best choice if the first three choices are off the board.

2024.05.18 21:17 Correct-Fan6615 Amway eSpring water filter installation

Ok, so I was just wondering if anyone has experience with eSpring under sink water filter installation?
I met with a local distributor and we talked about me doing installation for the clients that buy this filter from him. Now, on the first project it got complicated (luckily a friend of mine). His cold water valve had 2 x 3/8 outlets, so in order to install the filtration system, I’d have to replace the valve with the one that has 1x3/8 and 1x5/8 outlets and than add a 2x3/8 splitter in order to hook up both dish washer and regular faucet. Also, he has ceramic sink that goes over the countertop (granite), so drilling would have to go through both sink and granite.
Anyone had similar case before and how would you price it? For just installation I was thinking $250 (that’s basically just drilling the hole through the countertop) but with valve, and all other complications (plus liability that always comes with messing with old pipes…) I really don’t know…
Appreciate any experience or advice! Thank you!
P.S. I’m still at the point of doing handyman projects as a side hustle, hoping to go full time in the (recent) future.

2024.05.18 20:34 QuickSam1 Question about growth (sorry for longish post)

I have a small window cleaning business. I have an excellent reputation and live in an area that has more demand than supply. (Arguably—at the least, it’s a favorable business environment.) I have a growing online footprint with YELP and Google. So far, my reviews are all 5-star. I am known for top notch work at a reasonable price. I don’t cut corners. I focus on getting the job done right and treating people’s homes as my own.
I expect this to change as a hire and grow, because although I have many years experience, I don’t expect employees to care like I do. Still, I believe I can provide very good service at a reasonable price, and the small hike in prices will be offset by my ability to complete the work much faster than before which is more convenient for my customers who generally to choose to remain home while we are there. So far, no one has balked at a 10% hike.
Now, I’m trying to scale up. I have 2 pick up trucks. Neither are pretty, but they’re Toyotas. I would only need a couple more ladders to fully outfit 2 vehicles for service.
I have found a reasonable worker’s compensation quote. I haven’t yet received the numbers for the increased liability insurance, or commercial auto policy. I understand that I will be matching Social Security and FICA. I’m not worried so much about these expenses. Perhaps I should be. With labor, he margins for window cleaning aren’t terrific, but not horrible. Depending on the bid and the nature of the property the margin can be tight. Sometimes we have to drive 30 minutes as I operate in a semi-rural area. Like anywhere, I have some customers that grind me down.
I live in Idaho where these expenses tend to be less than the more populous states. However, because of the nature of window cleaning, insurance is costly. I’m trying to decide if this is worth it, because although I do care about my employees (they are great guys), there is significant headache managing this younger generation. It never ceases to amaze how quickly they become prima donnas, or how heavily they are focused on feelings…..I digress…
Right now I am paying 2 guys as 1099, which isn’t a safe long term solution. I need to make a decision quickly. I keep them off ladders and roofs for now. But, that can’t last if I am to scale it up. My plan is to make them w-2 employees paying them a percentage of the jobs, then send them to complete jobs in their own, with me as: estimator, customer PR, roaming QC, touch ups, and sometimes working.
I intend to add additional services (I already do gutter clean outs which are far more profitable, but pretty unpleasant work, and have a short window of time)
To conclude: at this point, I’m unsure of whether the increased capacity is worth the headache. I’m currently clearing approximately what I would make alone. However, as my guys gain experience, I expect this to get better as they get faster and more precise. Window cleaning is A LOT harder than it looks. It takes an average 1-2 months until I can leave a guy a a job site unattended for even a few hours. I have other options, so there are times when this seems really tough
The other possibilities:
*Pressure washing (demands additional insurance policy, but is a naturally matching service that I believe would be successful quickly, but requires more space in the truck than is available, so it would mean 1 truck off the grid for windows
*House cleaning: better margins, but more competitive and even more employee headache (prob worth it all in all)
*Dryer vent cleaning: I have less knowledge about this, but the entry cost is very low. And the margins are apparently quite good.
Questions:
Does it make sense to form an LLC, and use that name on my EIN application? Is the additional expense up front worth it?
Should I just endure the headache so that window cleaning can fund the other services with better margins?
Should I sell one of the trucks to buy a van or similar vehicle that is dedicated purely to the business? I could get at least $10K for either.
General thoughts?

2024.05.18 20:25 Kjulesss59 Liability Insurance for Flying Drone in Norway (I'm Canadian)

Hi there! Looking for some help. I am going to Norway next month for a trip. I am a Canadian and hoping to fly my DJI Mini 3 Pro drone for recreational use. I read up on the regulations and I understand that I need to have liability insurance for up to 750 000 SDR. Does anyone know where I can obtain this insurance?
Thanks so much!

2024.05.18 20:04 Daddy-of-AI Car was hit by USPS trucks a few months ago

My car was hit by USPS a few months ago and I was told I would have to deal with them because they have private insurance and also because my insurance is only limited liability and not full coverage.
They've been dragging out this matter for months and every time I go into the post office to speak with someone I just get told that it's being worked on and it takes a while and someone will eventually give me an update.
There was a police report created and I have surveillance footage of the incident because it happened in front of my house (my car was parked and they swiped the side of it as they were passing)
I'm not sure how to take matters into my own hands because my insurance says they can't help and I'm just getting the runaround from the USPS

2024.05.18 19:34 AlertRestaurant9163 Car liability question - teens

I insure my teenage child for a car in my name only and I enforce rules for driving safely. My ex allows the teenager to drive her car and I have concerns about liability. If she allows the teen to drive her car, and the teen gets caught driving under the influence or gets into an accident or something, who would be liable? What could happen and is there anything I can do to protect myself? Edit: Florida Edit 2: I only insure my child for the specific car I got for them. Certainly not my ex's

2024.05.18 19:24 Ill-Bad9619 Is this a red flag - home inspector edition

Hello Redditors !
We are FTHB and are in the process of hiring a home inspector for our new home under construction. Our builder gladly accepted our request and we found an inspector ( bayarea / tri Valley ) with all 5star reviews . We sent him some paperwork to be completed, however he digitally signed it without filling in other information. Here’s our conversation, is this a red flag ? Why wouldn’t he fill in the paperwork and try to bypass us ?
