2024.05.19 00:49 Mystic2288 [VA] [US] are we required to pay former assisted living facility, even if patient is discharged directly from hospital into long-term care nursing home?

Are we required to pay former assisted-living facility, even though discharged directly into long-term care nursing home?
A family member has gotten sick and has been living in an assisted-living facility for some months. I have recently gotten medical power of attorney. When I visited, I noticed that they were NOT taking good care of him and causing various issues, including no feeding for many hours (23 hours), not paying attention to his pain while urinating, or persistent coughs,
I wrote an email on May 13 to tell them of our intention to vacate but didn’t get a response. A few days ago they sent him to the emergency room of a hospital and he’s in the hospital being evaluated. He’s lost a lot of functions and is completely paralyzed, so I’m talking to a case manager tomorrow to discuss next steps.
The issue is we are looking to have the hospital discharge him into a long term care facility directly by private pay first and then apply for Medicaid long-term care. The question is: the current Assisted living facility sent us a bill for next month for $14,000 and they require a 30 day notice to exit. Are we supposed to pay this bill for June even when the current facility is unable to handle his care and he goes to a long-term care facility with the doctors orders?
Can we tell the facility that since the doctors will not allow him to go back there, we will not pay the next month bills ? (For example they do not know how to use Cough Assist; do not do IV antibiotics or a feeding tube or trach care which my family member needs. )
My family member has used up most of our life savings on this assisted living facility and some other treatments, which were not covered by Medicare or insurance.
Your expertise and advice will be much appreciated!

2024.05.19 00:48 banane1991 Ending toxic friendship

I need help. I’m a nice person who has stepped away from a friendship after feeling manipulated and lied to. The person I stepped away from was angry. We exchanged some harsh words over text and I ended up wishing her well and walked away from the situation. I have just received a bombard of drunken texts from a mutual acquaintance begging me to speak to this old friend. Telling me that I’m better than this and by the sounds of it has been told a slightly different story to my truth but that would be expected if I expected this which I didn’t.
I asked them to respect that it’s our problem to deal with together once I feel ready mentally. The woman being drunk continuously sends message after message begging me to forgive this old friend but I’m not ready. I kindly thanked her and managed to get out unscathed. There was a few scary manipulation going on in these messages almost threatening me. Or to reply in an instant. I stayed calm and composed and I do feel a sense of pride for that! Like I passed a test but yeah.
The woman then asked me to tell the old friend via message right away that il be getting in touch. I said I would but I won’t until or if I’m ever ready. If this lady comes at me again how I can stick to my guns kindly and with composure? Or if others try the same thing. I hate confrontation but I’m using this as a learning experience to deal with it in the right way!

2024.05.19 00:47 Brilliant_Dark_2686 How do I handle feeling like people prefer my partner over me?

Basically as the title says. I understand my insecurities are mine alone to deal with, and I do try, but recently my NP and I have been in a bit of a new situation for me (5 years poly btw)
Usually we don’t go after the same people, just because we’re usually not both attracted to the other person or the other person isn’t attracted to both of us.
That changed a few months ago, I’m now in the talking stage with this guy and I really like him. We met at a kink event during a friend of mine’s birthday celebration and the three of us really hit it off, all three of us danced and kissed for most of the night while my friend went off with new guy’s friend.
I have already had an overnight with this guy and talk to him a lot, we do game nights together with a group of mutual friends. He came over for a coffee date the other day even and I felt so happy.
But then when my partner is in the room, his eyes are on them. He goes for a lighthearted grope when he hugs my partner and the look on his face when he sees my partner is just… 😪
My partner doesn’t text this guy, they’ve only really make out/done some groping/petting and I try to tell myself that’s why my partner gets that attention that I also want, simple as.
I want to feel compersion for my partner, my partner likes this guy too and I am happy for my partner but I also feel bad about myself and insecure. My brain will be mean to me and say things like “He doesn’t like you as much as he likes your partner” or even a step further like “He only slept with you because he wants to sleep with your partner” (which obviously there is no proof of)
I just want to know how to deal with this insecurity without making it either of their problems, and maybe just some support from the poly community?

2024.05.19 00:47 MorganRose78 Untitled…..

In a quiet, forgotten village nestled deep within a dense forest, tales of an ancient witch named Elara had been passed down through generations. They spoke of her ethereal beauty, her ageless face, and her dark, malevolent powers. Most believed she was just a story to scare children into behaving, but others knew the truth.
It began with a simple dare. Lucy, a rebellious teenager, scoffed at the old legends. "Witches aren't real," she declared to her friends one night around a bonfire. Determined to prove her bravery, she decided to venture into the forest alone and find the witch's cabin. Her friends tried to dissuade her, but Lucy was headstrong.
Armed with only a flashlight and her skepticism, Lucy trekked through the woods. The deeper she went, the quieter the forest became, as if the trees themselves were holding their breath. After what felt like hours, she stumbled upon a clearing. In the center stood a decrepit cabin, exactly as described in the village's lore.
Despite a shiver running down her spine, Lucy pressed on. The door creaked ominously as she pushed it open, revealing a room filled with ancient artifacts, jars of strange substances, and books written in an indecipherable script. In the corner, a cauldron bubbled with a thick, green liquid, emitting a foul odor.
A sense of unease began to creep over Lucy, but she forced herself to stay. "It's just an old house," she muttered. She stepped closer to a bookshelf, her fingers brushing over the spines of the books, when she heard it – a soft, melodic humming.
Turning around slowly, she saw her. Elara, the witch, appeared as if from thin air. Her beauty was otherworldly, her eyes glowing with an eerie light. "You've come to visit me," Elara said, her voice like velvet. "How delightful."
Lucy couldn't move, couldn't speak. The witch approached her slowly, her smile never reaching her eyes. "So brave, so curious," Elara murmured. "But bravery has its price."
With a wave of her hand, the cabin transformed. The walls pulsed as if alive, and the artifacts seemed to watch Lucy with intent. Elara's face twisted into a malicious grin. "You wanted to see if the stories were true, and now you will be part of them."
Lucy felt a cold grip around her heart as darkness enveloped her. Her screams were swallowed by the night, leaving the forest silent once more.
The next morning, Lucy's friends, worried and guilty, ventured into the forest to find her. They discovered the clearing, the cabin... but no sign of Lucy. Inside, they found an old, dusty book open on the table. Flipping through its pages, they saw illustrations and descriptions of those who had visited Elara's cabin over the centuries. Each page bore a name and a fate.
They gasped when they reached the latest entry. There, sketched in excruciating detail, was Lucy, her eyes wide with terror. Beneath her portrait were the words: "Curiosity and defiance – a soul taken."
As they fled the forest, they could swear they heard Elara's melodic humming echoing through the trees, a reminder that the witch was very real, and her legend lived on.

2024.05.19 00:45 KayakRifleman Talking with Predators part 4 (NoP Fanfic)

All right here it is finally, thank you all for your patience and let's hope chapter 5 is a little more expedient. As usual I hope you enjoy and would love to get everyone's thoughts.
First Previous
4: Memory transcription subject: Zeak, Harchen orphan, citizen of the Venlil Republic. Date: standardized human time July 13th 2136.
The sky was a roaring mass of fire and pungent black smoke that choked out the light of the sun. As I ran down the street, green blood flowed like a broad shallow river. It splashed up with every step I took, sticking to my scales, the smell of it made me feel sick. As the piercing wail of the emergency sirens seemed to grow louder and louder with every step I took making my ears ring and filling my head with a thunderous pain. My heart pounded, my lungs were on fire, and my legs felt like they were made of lead.
A herd of towering blurry figures appeared out of nowhere and ran past me, some almost knocking me down. In their panic they began to look more like crazed wild animals than people. I cried for help but they couldn't hear me. I waved my paws then grabbed one of them a male Venlil, tightening my grip with all the strength I had hoping this would get his attention. He threw me off like I was trash, less than trash. I turned around and continued pleading for anyone to help me, reaching out for others. But their frantic idiot eyes looked only straight ahead and not down, never down, as the herd passed me.
I turned back around and continued to run, blood splashing up soaking me all the way to my knees. I stumbled, my legs were so tired I could barely stand, and I fell down catching myself, plunging my paws into blood as deep as my wrists. I felt myself scream but I couldn't hear it over the ringing in my ears. A scrap of paper gently floated past me, a single word written on it that echoed in my mind “Weakling.” It passed and four more took its place, “Coward”, “Liar”, “Oath breaker”, “Murderer.” I screamed in rage and slapped the pieces of paper aside, blood splashing onto my snout, but the meanings of those words remained. Getting back up I stumbled forward, and fell down again. Then with an effort born out of sheer desperation I managed to stand again lurching forward. My legs were too tired to run but I had to keep going, I had to save them. Or at least her, please Protector if you're listening please let me save at least her.
It felt like I was searching for an endless time. Lurching forward, stumbling, falling down, getting back up, lurching forward once more. Eventually I saw it and my heart fell into the pit of my stomach. My family's car was turned over on its roof, the driver's side had been caved in. It was engulfed in fire and thick black smoke that rose up into the sky. I struggled forward and when I reached it I collapsed, my knees hitting the hot pavement. The smell of burning metal and something else I didn't know assaulted my senses making my stomach turn. Every muscle in my body begged me to run away. Calling out their names l looked inside, and a wave of nausea and horror flooded through me.
I turned away and vomited, then reached up with my blood soaked paws and covered my eyes. Those words thundered in my head making me think it was going to burst open, as hot tears welled up. “WEAKLING! COWARD! LIAR! OATH BREAKER! MURDERER! MURDERER! MURDERER! MURDERER! “I'm sorry I'm sorry, I should have stayed, I should have helped. Why did I run?” I wailed, still unable to hear myself. Someone rested a delicate paw on my shoulder, and the world went quiet. As the pain in my head melted away.
My eyes snapped open and I was greeted by the gentle ringing of my alarm. In a rush of adrenaline I leaped out of bed not even bothering to wipe the sleep out of my eyes. Running out of my bedroom and down the narrow hallway towards the living room. Convincing myself It had all just been a horrible, horrible nightmare and everything was alright. Mom and Dad would be fixing breakfast, Dad softly singing a Harchen folk song while making something savory and delicious as mom sang along in harmony, preparing something special for my baby sister Naila. Oh yes and Naila, she would probably be sitting on a cushion in the sunny part of the living room. Holding her crooked tail, a birth defect which my parents said could be fixed when she was older. And making excited chirping noises at my arrival, while sunlight shone against her emerald scales. I loved my baby sister, I knew other kids resented having a younger sibling. Dismissing their responsibilities and spending less time with their family and more with their friends. I never once felt that way, the moment Naila hatched I devoted every spare minute I had to her. Finding music that would help her fall asleep, watching over her when my mom needed a break. Excitedly telling her about the day's events and what I learned at school, especially what I learned in computer science which was my favorite class.
“Mom! Dad!” I yelled bursting into the living room. “I just had the worst…” My voice trailed off as I was greeted with nothing “dream.” My heart tightened painfully in my chest, as I frantically ran through the house throwing open every door, knowing that they had to be here somewhere. They were just playing a game on me that was all, a game I would tell them I didn't appreciate. After the final door had been opened and no one was there to yell “Surprise!” My body slumped and I felt heavy as reality set back in, and the memories of what happened hit me like a hammer. I made my way back down the hall to my room, tail dragging behind me as I crawled back into bed. Wrapping myself tightly in a blanket, trying to find some comfort.
It must have been hours I lay there feeling numb all over, wishing I could get up the energy to just cry. I think I might have fallen asleep at one point. If I did it was a dreamless sleep, thank the stars for that. Eventually I did get up, sitting cross-legged on my bed, resting my chin in my paws, staring holes into the wall. I took a deep breath and side numbly looked out the window, searching for anything to distract myself with.
It was overcast, and eerily quiet. The emergency sirens had stopped blaring yesterday mere hours after everyone had gotten to the bunkers. The bodies of the dead had already been collected and their blood cleaned from the pavement. So as to not attract any predators into the neighborhood. I saw my neighbor A'shul was home, his white vehicle was sporting some new dents. I wondered, when he got into his vehicle yesterday morning and drove to the nearest bunker; did he try to help anyone? Or was he thinking only of himself? I suppose it didn't matter really. Nothing mattered.
I turned my head away and looked around my small room taking in everything, every trinket, misplaced item, my old second-hand desk, a big green crackle finished monster. Better suited for a Venlil than a young Harchen, heck I needed a stool just to use it. I had gotten it for basically nothing about a year ago, when the local extermination office was getting rid of their old furniture. All it took was a small bribe and they put it in my bedroom when no one was home. My parents, but especially my mom we're not happy when they saw it the next day. They would tell me at least once a week that It was too big for me and they were going to get rid of that eyesore. “Wouldn't you like something a little more modern dear?” My mom would ask, practically pleading for me to say yes. I used to pray that my parents would just shut up and stop bugging me about that stupid desk. I thought it was great, it made me think of private detective Bal from the exterminators show. Bal was a no nonsense Harchen who was so often pivotal in tracking down the predator or predator diseased person. My desk was very similar to his and that's why I wanted it. But at that moment, I would have given anything to hear those words again.
On the desk there was an ornate wooden box, with a fruit tree in full bloom delicately carved into its lid. There were also scuff marks where it had been dropped, and a deep crack running down the center. It was known as a blessing box, Naila's blessing box to be specific. When she hatched nearly ten months ago the whole neighborhood had been invited to come and write a blessing on a scrap of paper and put it in the box. I had written one too, not a blessing but a promise, a promise I couldn't keep. The belief was that if kept near the infant, the combined power of all those blessings would keep the hatchling safe until their first birthday. Where on that day the box would be set on fire and burned to ash. Releasing those blessings back into the world so they may protect someone else. It was an old tradition and not commonly practiced anymore, but as my dad always said “It is important to keep the old traditions alive my son. Both in song and action.” I remember asking him why? And he looked at me like he had been waiting for that question for a long time. “Because” He said, his tail moving with authority. “Someday when you lose your way, and you don't know where to turn to. You will always have something to guide you back to your center.”
Looking away from the box not wanting to look or think about the damn thing, I shifted my gaze down to my bedside table. There was a little holographic projector showing pictures of me, Mom, Dad and Naila on holiday back on Fahl, the Harchen home world to see family. I was born and raised on Venlil prime, so I didn't really know any of my extended family. There was a picture of my mom and Naila sleeping at the beach. Naila’s crooked tail coiled around mom’s arm, their scales a deep emerald in the light of the sun. The picture changed to me and Dad putting the finishing touches on a sand skyscraper taller than him. I had to sit on his shoulders to place the last bucket full of sand on top. Both of our scales were as blue as the ocean. My tail flicked sadly thinking of that day. I reached over and turned the holo protector off.
My holopad lay next to me flashing, alerting me to an urgent message. I hadn't really looked at my holopad since yesterday morning. Picking it up I tapped the flashing icon. It was an official government statement signed by Governor Tarva herself, saying that the humans Noah and Sarah were peaceful explorers, and that they only wished to be our friends. ‘No, that's impossible, they’re predators. Predators don't want peace, they want to conquer, kill and eat us,’ stunned and confused I kept reading. The rest of the message stated that the two human scientists were completely unaware there was intelligent life of any kind on Venlil prime. ‘No! Lies! Predator lies!’ I yelled inside my head. Something hot began to form in my chest as I read the last bit. Governor Tarver had shown the two predators footage of the Arxur torturing Venlil pups. It said that the humans were capable of empathy and felt deeply saddened and angered by what they saw. They vowed to do everything in their power to get their united nations into the war against the Arxur.
I scrolled all the way down and what I saw stopped me cold. Standing in her office being flanked by General Kam, stood Governor Tarva. Beside them looming over the two Venlil one bigger than the other, both of them covered in some sort of protective suit. Their faces were obscured by dark visored helmets. It said that the larger of the two Noah was male, and the smaller one was Sarah female. Sarah had her hands clasped in front of her, while Noah kept his to his side. Neither were acting threatening, and neither Tarva or Kam looked to be harmed in any way.
Something in me snapped, that hot thing inside my chest erupted and I could feel my scales turn black. I very carefully set my holopad down beside me, then I uncrossed my legs and got out of bed. I stood there in the center of my room shaking slightly, feeling terribly calm as white hot rage flooded my body, spreading to my paws and all the way out to the tip of my long tail. It never had to happen, the panic, the stampede, the death, we could have stayed home and avoided those people. ‘No… no not people,’ a bitter thought came over me. ‘They're not people at all, people stop and help, like that Venlil girl Kayleik, she was a person maybe the only one. But the rest of them were just wild animals, masquerading as sentient beings. ‘Do you really think you're any better, coward?’ Some internal voice said.
A sudden impulse took control of me and I grabbed my desks stool and hurled it against the wall. It dented the wall and bounced off still in one piece. Enraged, I leaped forward grabbing it by the legs, then turned around and slammed it into my desk. The sheet metal dented and the green crackle finish paint flew off, but the stool made of good dense wood from the string fruit tree stayed whole. “DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM!” I screamed, slamming the stool down again and again, my tail whipping wildly, striking the bed and the floor. The tip of my tail began to hurt, which only fueled my anger. Finally I heard cracking and wood began to splinter off. They didn't have to die, we could have stayed home. The muscles in my shoulders burned and my heart pounded as hot tears began to well up. I brought it down one final time narrowly avoiding the blessing box, and the stool broke in two. I hurled the pieces away from me, one slamming into the corner the other crashing through the window.
I leaned against the desk catching my breath as tears flowed freely. ‘Well that definitely showed them didn't it. Hey I got a great idea! Let's go break some more stuff, that will definitely make you feel better. Idiot!’ That internal voice said all coldness and bitterness. As I cried, the burning in my chest cooled, and I was filled with the same numbness as before. After a while my stomach growled, reminding me I hadn't eaten since yesterday. I moved sluggishly out of my bedroom and went straight to the kitchen, quickly grabbed some fruit and left to go and watch the view screen or something. The moment I entered the living room, memories came flooding back. Mom and Dad laughing, Naila sleeping peacefully, the lingering aroma of breakfast, and the warmth of our home. But now it was all gone and I was alone. For the first time in my life, I had no one to go to.
It was right then I realized I couldn't stay here anymore. This place felt like a tomb, all cold and filled with the memories of the dead. Besides, if I stayed here someone would eventually send the authorities to come and get me. Ship me off to an orphanage, foster care or maybe to my extended family back on Fahl. I balked at the idea of being forced to live with people I didn't know or trust. Memories of yesterday's stampede invaded my mind and I shuddered. I couldn't trust any of them not anymore. No, there was one person I could think of that maybe I could trust. Turning around I went back to my room, found my backpack and grabbed my holopad, the blessing box, the holo projector and my blanket stuffing it into my pack. Then I went to the kitchen and filled my pack up the rest of the way with dried fruit and vegetable snacks. With my backpack looking like it was going to burst I shouldered it and made my way to the front door. When I rested my scaly paw on the door handle I stopped and looked back at the place that was once my home. “Goodbye” I said in a shaky voice, knowing this would be the last time I would never set foot in this house. With my head low I opened the door and stepped out, into the dim light of a new unfamiliar world.

2024.05.19 00:45 MorganRose78 Ravensbrook pt. 1

In the small town of Ravensbrook, there was an old tale whispered among the children and shunned by the adults. It was about the Witch of Briar Hollow, a story meant to scare misbehaving kids, but the truth was more sinister than any legend.
Eliza Blackwood was a recluse who lived deep in the woods, in a house that seemed to blend into the shadows. Her presence was marked by an eerie quietness that settled over the trees when she was near. She had no visitors, and the only sign of life were the crows that circled her home.
One autumn, a group of teenagers, eager for a thrill, dared each other to visit Eliza’s house on Halloween night. They gathered at the edge of Briar Hollow as the sun dipped below the horizon, turning the sky into a bruised palette of purples and blacks.
Armed with flashlights and false bravado, they made their way through the dense forest, the path becoming less distinct with each step. The trees seemed to close in around them, and the air grew thick and still. Finally, they saw it—the crooked, weather-beaten house of Eliza Blackwood.
Despite their nerves, they pushed forward, each step crunching on the dead leaves like a chorus of whispered warnings. The door, surprisingly, was ajar, as if expecting visitors. They stepped inside, the floorboards creaking under their weight. The house was dark, the air stale, filled with the scent of herbs and something unidentifiable.
In the dim light of their flashlights, they saw jars lining the shelves, filled with strange, twisted roots and things they couldn’t name. An old, leather-bound book lay open on a table, its pages covered in indecipherable symbols.
Suddenly, the door slammed shut, plunging them into darkness. Their flashlights flickered and died. Panic set in as they fumbled to find their way out. But the house seemed to shift, the walls closing in, the air growing colder.
A voice, soft and raspy, filled the room. “You seek to mock me, children?”
They turned towards the voice, and there she was—Eliza Blackwood. Her eyes were dark pits, her skin as pale as the moonlight that struggled to seep through the boarded windows. She moved with an unnatural grace, her feet barely touching the ground.
“Do you know what happens to those who trespass?” she whispered, her voice like the rustling of dead leaves.
Before they could respond, the room filled with an oppressive force. The air grew thick and heavy, pressing down on their chests. They tried to scream, but no sound came out. One by one, they fell to the ground, unconscious.
When they awoke, they were no longer in the house but scattered across the forest floor, as if they had been thrown from the place. Dazed and terrified, they ran back to town, vowing never to speak of what happened.
But the encounter had left its mark. Over the following days, strange things began to occur. One by one, the teenagers vanished, leaving no trace. The townspeople whispered of Eliza’s curse, of how she claimed those who disturbed her peace.
Years passed, and the tale of the Witch of Briar Hollow became a cautionary legend once more. But the townspeople knew the truth—that deep in the woods, Eliza Blackwood still watched, still waited, and those who dared to seek her out would never return.
And sometimes, on a quiet night, if you listen closely, you can hear the whispers of the lost souls, warning others to stay away from Briar Hollow, where the witch’s curse still lingers, and her hunger for vengeance remains unsatisfied.

Unlocking Passive Income Streams: Strategies for Financial Freedom in 2024

https://preview.redd.it/lmko4rpsj91d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5199074a017b6d10c63705a11e1c2f6f9be4a12d
In today's fast-paced world, where job security is no longer a certainty and traditional employment models are evolving, the quest for financial freedom has become more crucial than ever. One of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is by establishing multiple streams of passive income – sources of revenue that require minimal effort to maintain once set up. This article delves into various strategies for earning passive income online, providing actionable steps for each method.

Section 1: Understanding Passive Income

What is Passive Income?

Passive income refers to earnings generated from sources that do not require active involvement or labor once the initial effort has been put in. Unlike active income, which is earned through traditional employment or self-employment, passive income continues to flow in even when you're not actively working. This concept has gained immense popularity in recent years as more individuals seek ways to break free from the constraints of the 9-to-5 grind and achieve financial independence.

Benefits of Passive Income

The allure of passive income lies in its ability to provide a consistent revenue stream with minimal ongoing effort. Here are some of the key benefits of building passive income sources:
  1. Financial Freedom: Passive income can supplement or even replace traditional employment income, allowing you to achieve financial independence and pursue your passions without worrying about money.
  2. Diversification: By diversifying your income streams, you reduce your reliance on a single source of income, mitigating risks and providing a safety net in case one stream dries up.
  3. Scalability: Many passive income strategies can be scaled up, allowing you to increase your earnings without proportionally increasing your workload.
  4. Lifestyle Flexibility: With passive income, you can enjoy greater flexibility in your lifestyle, as you are not tied to a specific location or schedule.

Passive Income vs. Active Income

While both passive and active income contribute to your overall financial well-being, they differ in several ways:
  • Effort Required: Active income requires ongoing effort and labor, while passive income requires initial effort to set up but minimal ongoing work.
  • Time Commitment: Active income is directly tied to the time you invest in working, whereas passive income can generate revenue even when you're not actively working.
  • Scalability: Active income is limited by the number of hours you can work, while passive income can be scaled up more easily by leveraging systems and automation.
  • Risk Diversification: Passive income streams provide diversification, reducing the risk of relying solely on active income from a single source.
By combining active and passive income sources, you can create a well-rounded financial portfolio that provides stability, flexibility, and the potential for long-term wealth building.

Section 2: Popular Passive Income Strategies

There are numerous ways to generate passive income, ranging from traditional investment vehicles to modern online opportunities. Let's explore some of the most popular strategies:

Subsection 2.1: Real Estate Investments

Real estate has long been a favored passive income source for many investors. By owning rental properties, you can generate a steady stream of rental income with minimal effort once the property is acquired and tenants are in place.

Description

Real estate investments can take various forms, including:
  1. Rental Properties: Purchasing residential or commercial properties and renting them out to tenants.
  2. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs): Investing in companies that own and operate income-producing real estate.
  3. Crowdfunding Real Estate Platforms: Pooling funds with other investors to purchase income-generating properties.

Steps to Get Started

Getting started with real estate investments involves the following steps:
  1. Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify profitable investment opportunities and evaluate potential risks.
  2. Financing: Secure financing through traditional mortgages, private lenders, or alternative financing options.
  3. Property Management: Hire a professional property management company or handle tenant screening, maintenance, and rent collection yourself.
  4. Ongoing Monitoring: Regularly review your investment performance and adjust your strategy as needed.
While real estate investments can be lucrative, they also require significant upfront capital and carry inherent risks, such as vacancies, property maintenance, and market fluctuations.

Subsection 2.2: Stock Market Investments

Investing in the stock market is another popular way to generate passive income. By carefully selecting dividend-paying stocks or investing in index funds, you can earn regular income from your investments.

Description

Stock market investments for passive income can take the following forms:
  1. Dividend Stocks: Owning shares in companies that distribute a portion of their profits to shareholders in the form of dividends.
  2. Index Funds: Investing in low-cost, diversified funds that track the performance of a specific market index, such as the S&P 500.
  3. Mutual Funds: Professionally managed investment funds that hold a diverse portfolio of stocks, bonds, and other securities.

Steps to Get Started

To start investing in the stock market for passive income, follow these steps:
  1. Open a Brokerage Account: Choose a reputable online brokerage platform that suits your investment needs and budget.
  2. Research and Select Investments: Conduct thorough research on potential investments, considering factors such as dividend yield, historical performance, and risk profile.

Unlocking Passive Income Streams: Strategies for Financial Freedom in 2024
In today's fast-paced world, where job security is no longer a certainty and traditional employment models are evolving, the quest for financial freedom has become more crucial than ever.

2024.05.19 00:33 Bena-Okk How do I know if meds are working and when it’s not ?

Hey ! Kinda new to this whole thing. Just started medication and have only been on it for a week. But I kinda expected it work differently than the first non-stimulant that I tried and was wondering when is it the time to raise a concern or if there things I should be looking out for.
For reference I’m 30 mg of Vyvanse. I first was on 50 mg of Strattera, which ended up giving me extreme migraines and I stopped it within the first month. We thought a nonstimulant would be better because of my anxiety but guess not.
These are my main problems:
I have a daydreaming problem that is very distracting. I can’t complete most tasks because it’s like a second voice is experiencing something completely different in my head. I somehow start daydreaming , start talking to myself and next thing you know an hour has gone by.
I have a hard time taking showers or preparing food, buying food or anything because it’s so….boring? Like so understimulating and stressful at the same time
Obviously I cannot begin any task. I once had to send an email, and the recipient email wasn’t given to me, so I had to go on their website to get it. And the thought of doing that was so crippling that I missed out on the job and opportunity of a lifetime.
All this to say that nothing has really changed? I’m in college and currently taking summer classes. This week I’ve only showered once. I forgot to eat yesterday again and the day before, I virtually starved myself because the process of getting food was too many steps. I have not completed any of my assignments. I’ve had multiple panic attacks because of how bad I want to start but just can’t. I did start something but only maybe worked on it for 30 minutes before I started talking to myself about my next hairstyle (haha) and I really just had a week like any other week.
Unmotivated, Unhealthy, Unproductive and Unsuccessful.
I have no urge to take the medication again but I really would like advice

2024.05.19 00:30 michaelincognito Email in use (not by me)

I have a problem. Before I sit on hold for a couple hours with tech support, I want to see if y’all think I have any chance of getting a positive resolution.
When I bought a PS4 back in 2015, I tried to register for a PlayStation Network account with my primary email address, which I got in 2004 when Gmail was still invite only. It’s the only one I use. When I tried to register for the PSN account, I got an error saying the email was already in use. It wasn’t by me. I did the account recovery steps, but the birthday question didn’t match — because it wasn’t me who created the account. I spent several hours going around in circles with tech support before finally giving up and registering an account with my work email.
Fast forward to now. NCAA Football is coming back, which means I’m about to buy a PS5. I don’t know how long I’ll have access to my work email, but it’s a finite amount of time. I don’t want to create a burner account and tie my PlayStation account to it. I want to use the only email address I’ve had in my possession for the last 20 years.
Do I have any chance at all of talking to someone who can authorize releasing my email address so I can sign up for an account? Doesn’t really seem right that someone can create an account with my email address, and I’m just stuck.
(I don’t know if or how anyone ever had access to my email, but they obviously didn’t in order to use it to register an account. I changed my passwords and enabled two factor authentication in 2015 after my first round trying to resolve this issue.)

2024.05.19 00:28 dontleavethis Are there people like Dr. K from healthy gamer for women?

Are there any self-help people like Dr. K from Healthy Gamer but geared towards women? I swear we get fed this narrative that men have it so hard, but I think both men and women have it hard. While I find Dr. K helpful, his content is extremely geared towards men and doesn't really cover the issues that have negatively affected my mental health, such as how women are devalued and lose status as they age, or the backlash against Anya Chalotra, Halle Bailey, Brie Larson, Skeptical Science (Skeptichick), or Anita Sarkeesian, who did the video game trope analysis. I see myself in these women, and seeing them get so much vitriol kind of feels like I’m getting that hatred, as well as other people like me. I hate that what I seem to think is a reasonable vision for the world gets meet with so much resistance.
Anya was the first woman I ever saw on screen who looked like me in a major fantasy role, and I hated the vitriol directed at her. Sometimes I get frustrated that men get a brilliant person who speaks to them and their woes, especially when some of them want to take away things that benefit women, people of color, etc. I also thought Bailey was a perfect choice for Ariel; she even looked "fishy" with her wide-set eyes.
I am looking for videos and help on how to heal from wounds caused by bad experiences with men, to the point where I'm kind of glad they're struggling with dating in hopes that they will change for the better. I don't know where to have these discussions, and I feel it's unfair because I've seen men finding like-minded people to discuss things in voice chat on platforms like Discord, but not for women. I've tried joining more progressive servers like Wisecrack and Some More News without success.
I also don't get much attention or value from guys like I’ve seen my pretty friends get, and I often see guys picking them over me. In my friend group, one girl gets treated so much nicer because the guys are romantically or sexually interested in her, and it got annoying enough that I stopped hanging out with them (the anti-wokeness circle jerk was a big reason why too). People like Brené Brown, Esther Perel, or Ramani Durvasula don’t speak to the personal issues I’m going through. It feels like there isn't a large audience for women like me, unlike the large following men like Dr. K, Jordan Peterson, etc., have.
I think I’m also frustrated that someone like Skeptichick doesn’t have a large following. I know there is ContraPoints, but in the video I watched, from my knowledge of philosophy, she kind of inaccurately explained a philosophy concept, so I never tuned in after that. Oh, I did want to give a shout out to OhStepCo’s "I Don’t Have Pretty Privilege and That Sucks" video because when I watched it, I thought, "Oh, I know what she is talking about." There is also Kimberlé Crenshaw, and she has been twisted and warped by the right so much that it kind of hurts to see.
I'm craving videos, communities, literally any resources providing guidance on how to protect our self-worth amid societal devaluation of women, heal from negative experiences with misogyny, build self-love aside from male validation, and overcome these uniquely gendered hurdles to our mental health.because my guy friends actually have this more than I do. Representation and uplifting voices for women in this arena feel so lacking compared to what's available for men. But I see the exact opposite. I see the rise of Trump, Tate, Peterson, Christopher Rufo etc who painted trying to uplift women as cultural Marxism and bigotry against white men. I see it painted as men can’t be men anymore and men are vilified. I feel like they get that the patriarchy does means there have been norms and behaviors harmful to women done by men (and women) without them seeing it an attack on themselves . I don’t know what to think but I don’t get the backlash. Anyways, I wish Dr. K and his team could do more content aimed towards women but I think it will not happen without alienating his main audience.

2024.05.19 00:27 Equal-Peach8422 i left him physically and i want to break up completely but i’m scared i’ll regret going no contact (even tho ik i won’t🫠)

i’m so sorry if this is rlly long, im new to reddit so pls let me know if i need to shorten it and how to do so😭
hi so this is kinda hard to explain fully so i’ll try to explain the most important parts.
this maybe a TW to a lot of ppl so please be careful reading this i don’t want to upset anyone! ⚠️
so i’m 20(f) and i’ve been with this guy (also 20)for about over two years. we met in highschool when i was going through a breakup and he was one of my only closest friends. as with all abusive relationships, it started off so amazing, it was my first in person serious relationship so i was fully heard over heels. so much so that when red flags started popping up i ignored them. it started off with him telling me to drop my closest guy friends, etc… and i did because he used him having no friends at all to make me feel like i had to do the same. he also got me into smoking weed, which i have nothing against btw, it was just bad for me because i used it to cope with a lot of my depression. since i smoked weed more often, i started gaining weight which i had no problem with since i had gone through a severe case of anorexia about 2 years prior, but it did make me a little insecure. slowly he started insulting my weight, my body, and so many other things, until it led to the point where he got physical after around six or seven months of us dating. i remember his mom walking in on him about to hit me with a belt and she had been abused by his dad and my bf witnessed it all, so she was very angry at him and she took my side, and i’ll never forget what she told me; “this isn’t love. someone who loves you would never even think of putting their hands on you”. i still feel guilty for not listening to her. i wanted to believe in him so badly, so i stayed and things just got worse.
everyday there was a fight, either verbally or physically (most of the time both), and i just felt so horrible. so i eventually wanted to adopt a cat, something i always wanted to do since i was a little girl. i adopted a kitten and unfortunately my parents did not allow me to keep him at my house because of my dog, and i asked my bf if i could keep him at his house for the meantime while i can work with my parents on how he can live with me (the kitten). i am not exaggerating when i say that that little kitten was my soulmate in a little cat body. he seemed to understand me and love me in a way no other human did. and i loved him more than anything. i eventually went on vacation with my family for a few days and when i came back i could tell somehow things were different. he wouldn’t let me see my kitten and when i pretty much forced him to let me see him, he started crying and begging me not to leave him. i of course panicked and agreed because i thought something bad happened to my kitten, and he showed me him and told me that he had broken one of his paws. i was so horrified, i felt so much pain at seeing my little buddy in that state, so i freaked out and i demanded and begged that he let me take him to the vet or anywhere else that wasn’t his house so that he can get help. but he refused, and even threatened me if i took him, saying it was his cat and just making me feel like it was my fault that this happened and not his. my biggest regret and the reason i feel guilty to this day is that i stayed out of fear, instead of taking my kitten with me and never looking back. he ended up killing my kitten one night that i went home (i have always lived with my parents), and he didn’t tell me until i came over the next day. it was the most painful and traumatic day of my life, knowing that i never got to say goodbye to my kitten, knowing how much my kitten loved me and how much i loved him, and now he was gone when he shouldn’t have been. i screamed and cried so much, and his (my bfs) only response was to aggressively attack me so i would be quiet, and blaming me that if i had taken him he would still be alive.
i felt so guilty and ashamed that i didn’t tell anyone until a month later, when i started having an onset of ptsd because of everything that happened, i decided to tell my therapist. she was horrified, saying that it was one of the most horrific things she ever heard, and honestly if it wasn’t for her help, i would’ve never survived that pain and guilt of losing my kitten. i know now that i was in a heavy denial that my bf would do something so horrible, so i continued on seeing him, but things just got worse and worse. he did so many fucked up things to me, physically, mentally, sexually, in almost every single way possible that you can imagine. i used weed as my coping mechanism for a lot of it, and it was the only way i could numb all the pain he was causing me. i was so depressed, i never felt suicidal with intentions of offing myself, but i did just want to go to sleep and never wake up. the guilt of my kittens death, combined with the horrible abuse this person that was supposed to love me was doing, was so painful. eventually i told my family what happened, but all they did was basically say that i “let it happen” and that “i should’ve left the first time he put his hands on me”, and that “why didn’t i defend myself the way i defended myself against them (referring to my family)”. it hurt but i understand they weren’t educated on it, especially coming from a minority family.
eventually a few months passed, and i found out i was pregnant. it was honestly one of the best days of my life, even if i was young, i still was happy because there was this little life in me. and i knew from the second i found out that i couldn’t stay with him. i couldn’t allow my baby to have that same life that i was living, but i didn’t know how to get out. he didn’t want me to continue the pregnancy when i told him, and even threatened to leave me and not support me at all, but i was determined to stand by my decision; he wasn’t going to take away my choice of having my baby. i stopped smoking weed the day i found out, and he always tried to make me smoke, which i refused, which would get him so upset. but i was determined to take care of my lil baby from the start, he had taken away too much already from me. i told my parents and they were disappointed but quickly became supportive, and encouraged me to leave him for good. it took a few months of me seeing him occasionally, but things not really changing, for me to leave him for good.
i left a few weeks ago due to me realizing that the only thing i was doing by going over to his house was putting myself and my baby in danger. and after a very scary traumatizing incident, i realized while crying and praying to God, that the only true love i’ve ever felt and feel at this point, is for my baby. my bf was no longer my whole world, it was my baby, and as a mother to be, i was going to do everything to protect my baby. i rather go through the pain of breaking away from my bf then something bad happening to me or even to my baby. not only does my baby deserve a happy and safe life, but i realized that i do too. and in order for my baby to be happy, i have to be happy as well. so i made a promise to God and to myself and my baby, that i was never ever going to see my bf again. so that day after i left his house, i never went back. i don’t blame other moms in these situations, because it is so incredibly difficult to get out, i know, trust me i do. but for me what has helped me stay strong in my decision, is seeing how much happier me and my baby are already. i only have a few more months until i give birth, and i can already feel him kicking so hard now and being much more active. i truly believe it’s because he senses that we’re truly safe now, that our nightmare is over.
it’s been really hard i’m not going to lie, i cry sometimes and miss the person i fell in love with, but my faith in God and my baby have helped me a lot, as well as my family! that person i fell in love with, left a long time ago, and was never truly there. i know that i’m doing the right decision for me and my baby, to be safe and to have a happy life together. i know i can be both mommy and daddy to him, and most importantly i’ll teach him that he has God as his father too, which is much much better than having a pos father tbh.
going back to the title of my post though, i realized in these recent days that i know it’s time to go no contact completely. i haven’t seen him at all which i know is good, but i know to fully move on i have to cut off all communication with him. i think he can sense i’m breaking away from him, because yesterday he begged me to come over, saying all the things he used to say before, like that he “wants to hold me”, he wants to get our favorite drink together and food, that he wants to feel our baby kick, which honestly made it so hard to say no but i stood by my decision as painful as it was 🫠i told him i will not see him because i know things are going to remain the same and i’m doing what’s best for my baby and for me. and that as much as i still have love for him and miss him, i will not put myself or my baby in danger any longer. he proved my point after i said that, because he basically said so many horrible things to me, including that i was a “dumb overweight bitch”, “fuck you”, and he got mad that i saved a video of MY kitten that HE killed, saying that “fuck you for saving a video of me and my boy”, and a bunch of other hurtful stuff. it was honestly so disgusting and it made me glad i stuck by my decision to not ever see him again. i left him on read so he spam called me and i only answered once to tell him to leave me alone, but he basically only called me to say “i rather spend money on drugs and alcohol than you and that fucking baby🥲”. i’m not going to lie and act like it didn’t hurt, it really did. it really really did. but it also strangely gives me strength and makes me feel reassured that i made the best decision ever by leaving, not only for myself but for most importantly my baby. i don’t need him in my life anymore, all i need is my baby, God, and my family.
ever since then i want to send him a message that i want to breakup with him for good and basically go no contact from there. it sounds stupid, but i’m still scared to do so, i’m scared i’ll regret it in a way, even though i know for certain i won’t. i also remember the “good times” and it makes me sad and feel guilty for “giving up on him” even tho i know he doesn’t deserve me at all🫠. i guess that’s the abused part of me being scared still. i know i’ve taken an important big step by cutting off physical contact, but i know i can’t keep talking to him because he’ll only find other ways to torment me and make me feel bad even from far away. i guess i just wanted to ask for reassurance that i’m doing the right thing? idk🥲 sometimes it feels like i’m not strong enough, but my baby always reminds me with his kicks (lol) of why i’m doing all of this, which is for him!! a mothers love is truly so strong, i never really knew that until now. i would do anything to protect my baby. the only thing that has kept me happy and strong enough to continue is him! :’) and i also want to cut off contact for good because i want to enjoy the last months of my pregnancy in peace lol, and once he’s born soon i def do not need my bf stressing me out nor do i want him to. i also do not want him to be apart of my baby’s life once he’s born, i made sure to collect evidence just in case he ever wants to ask for visitation rights, cuz there is NO WAY in hell i will ever allow him to be near my baby let alone be alone with him ever. it’s sad but it’s the reality of his actions, it’s my job to protect my baby first. i’m lucky to have my family’s financial support as well while i finish up college, so i def do not care if he threatens me with not paying child support. i just want him out of our lives for good.
so yeah im just looking for reassurance that im doing the right thing and any advice if anyone has some! 🥹🫶i just want to be a good mommy to my baby and i hope i’m doing just that already 🥲❤️‍🩹i haven’t really told many people about my story out of fear of judgment, so it’s really a big step for me to share, even if it’s anonymous in a way. im just focusing on trusting God and myself, and im so excited to meet my baby soon! 🥹and to do better in college since i’ve been slacking ever since i started due to all the trauma and problems my bf put me through. i’m excited in general, to get my life back and to start a new chapter with my little one! 🥹🥲🫶 i got in contact with my old friends which has been nice, i know i should try to socialize more so i won’t feel as depressed. i also am looking for a new therapist (i stopped going to my old one a few months ago due to it being out of pocket😭), which i’ve been procrastinating but i know it’s important to help me heal from my trauma and to help me with my ocd (which has gotten worse tbh and it makes me more anxious about my baby🥲 even tho i know he’s okay i’m just really paranoid always). i am sad, but not as sad as i was when i was with him. and while i don’t really want to find a partner in the future because my priority is my baby, i do hope i’ll one day find someone who can love me as i deserve. it feels impossible though, but i know that might just be because of all the effects of his abuse…
i hope even if you don’t have advice for me or anything to say (which is totally fine!) i hope people reading this can find comfort that all bad moments come to an end, and that you have the power to leave, as hard as it is ❤️‍🩹even if it doesn’t seem like it, i promise you will get through it. i’m still not over it completely, i def have a long way to go, but i know it’ll all be worth it, and tbh it already is worth it!
thank you for taking the time to read this, i send all my love and good vibes to all of you warriors! <3 :’)

How bots monopolizing DeviantArt's promotional and revenue apparatuses and the platform's unwillingness to address the issue are driving artists to abandon it
  • DeviantArt, once a beacon for budding artists to showcase their work and network, has succumbed to the challenges posed by bots and AI, losing its charm and utility for the creative community.
  • The exploitation of the platform's systems to artificially inflate sales and metrics represents a crisis of authenticity and trust within online artist communities.
  • Artists are actively leaving DeviantArt, driven away by the platform's integration of AI tools that utilize their work without permission, indicating a critical turning point in the relationship between digital platforms and content creators.
  • A lawsuit involving prominent illustrators against DeviantArt highlights the broader implications of AI on copyright, creativity, and the livelihood of artists, underscoring the need for legal and ethical standards in the digital age.
  • Despite facing criticism and legal challenges, DeviantArt and similar platforms' shift towards AI-generated content and away from supporting real artists reflects broader technological and economic pressures reshaping the creative landscape.
In January 2023, three prominent illustrators filed a copyright-infringement and unfair-competition class-action lawsuit against DeviantArt, highlighting the profound impact of AI integration on artists’ rights and the integrity of their work. The lawsuit accused DeviantArt of scraping over 3 million images for AI training without creators' consent, sparking a significant legal battle over copyright and creativity in the age of AI.
“I’ve had an account on DeviantArt for 22 years,” she said. “I actually dropped out of school because I grew a following on DeviantArt. My first job for Mercedes-Benz happened when I was 20 years old because they found my work online.”
One of the most telling signs of the shifting landscape for artists online is Jingna Zhang's initiative, Cara, a digital portfolio and social app ensuring work shared there is human-made. Notably, one of its users is Angelo Sotira, DeviantArt's co-founder, who lamented the abandonment of real artists by platforms in favor of AI-generated content.

2024.05.19 00:21 star-of-misfortune Mordret's encounter with the Lord of Shadows

First time writing something for this fandom, (this is an alt) any constructive criticism is welcome! Most of the inspiration for this came from u/chabri2000 and my own imagination. Enjoy the read!
Mordret stumbled out of the reflective pool of water and stepped onto ground near the Lord of Shadow's citadel, the quiet rustling of the things hidden in the darkness slowly growing on his nerves. He had not been stopped, strangely enough. He had heard stories of the echoes the Lord of shadow wielded from the sleepers sent to this area on the winter solstice. He cast those thoughts from his head as he opened the great doors of the castle-like citadel.
He walked in, hearing the sound of… something moving throughout the hall. He paused just past the threshold of the door for a moment. Mordret knew he was being watched. He could sense the reflections of two sets of eyes staring at him, but he was careful to not show any fear and kept walking forward, through the hall.
Eventually, a sliver of light was allowed to enter the darkness of the room, illuminating a throne of sorts, cut from stone, and an individual sitting on top of it. Though he could not see anything but a faint outline, Mordret knew this was the person he had come to meet.
“Mordret.” The figure from the throne said in a commanding voice, speaking Mordret’s name like a statement.
Mordret put on his best smile and did a light bow, before speaking in an almost reverent tone, “I wasn’t aware I had been introduced to the great Lord of shadows, but I suppose that that knowing who I am will make this exchange easier.” Mordret paused for a moment before adding “Though my presence as a saint had been revealed to the world, may I ask of how you knew it was me?”
The voice from the throne paused, and Mordret felt the reflections of the Lord of the citadel’s eyes get covered with a strange wooden mask (Clearly a memory from the way sparks appeared, perhaps it was a tool used to gauge his intentions, or perhaps strength?)
The Lord responded “Ah, think nothing of it, I had just heard a rumor and your response was enough of an answer for me.”
Mordret felt the reflections from the Lord’s eyes return as the strange mask was dismissed. “But that’s enough about me, what brings you here, servant of Song?”
Mordret opened the scroll he was given days ago by Ki song herself. He cleared his throat before reading, “Dear lord of shadows. By claiming and protecting a citadel in the middle of godsgrave, you have proven your strength. I offer you a deal, I will give you all the soul shards, memories, and echoes you will ever need if you bow your head to my rule and accept me as your sovereign. I hope you will accept this deal, Sincerely, Ki Song of Ravenheart.” Mordret glanced up from the scroll and looked at the Lord with a bit of curiosity, “So, what do you say?”
“No.” The Lord of Shadows responded quickly, “I have intention of joining your clan, if that was the purpose of your visit, Leave.”
Mordret sighed and put away the scroll, “You know, it’s quite sad you rejected my offer, but I’m afraid you will have to die now.” And with that statement, Mordret, known in another time and another place as “Soul Stealer” jumped into the soul sea of the Lord of Shadows.
. . . . .
The first thing Mordret noticed was the lack of light. Most souls were bright, and robust, but this one was very dark, the only light from coming from the six soul cores floating high above. Wait… six? Was the lord of Shadows a divine aspect holder?
Mordret’s thoughts were interrupted by a strange sound originating from the figure facing away from him. The lord of shadows was laughing.
“Ah… You haven’t learned any new tricks since then, I see. Well, no matter. I do ask one thing of you though, if you could, remember what I said to you back then, what was it…” His voice drifted off, turning into sad, slow laugh. “Right.” Mordret saw something, or perhaps many somethings starting to move beyond the area of light cast by the soul cores.
You shall learn to fear the shadows."

2024.05.19 00:19 Longjumping_Pilgirm Sumner-Class Destroyer...IN SPACE

Sometimes I have to put comparisons like this up to remind myself how important Starship is....
I compared the cost of building a Sumner-Class Destroyer in space using Starship with the cost of the ISS. I chose the Sumner because there is a similar destroyer, but not of the same class, that is a museum ship about 20 minutes from where I live, and my grandpa was stationed on one in the 1960s. I did this to test out the capabilities of ChatGPT4o and I was impressed.
Here is what it said:
To estimate how many launches of SpaceX's Starship would be needed to build a Sumner-Class Destroyer in space and the total cost of the project, we'll need to consider the following key factors:

Step 1: Weight of the Sumner-Class Destroyer

A Sumner-Class Destroyer (e.g., the USS Allen M. Sumner) has a full load displacement of about 2,200 tons (2,200,000 kg).

Step 2: Payload Capacity of Starship

SpaceX's Starship, when fully operational, is expected to have a payload capacity to low Earth orbit (LEO) of about 100 tons (100,000 kg) per launch.

Step 3: Calculating the Number of Launches

To transport the full weight of a Sumner-Class Destroyer to space:
\[ \text{Number of launches} = \frac{\text{Total weight}}{\text{Payload per launch}} = \frac{2,200,000 \text{ kg}}{100,000 \text{ kg per launch}} = 22 \text{ launches} \]

Step 4: Estimated Cost per Launch

Elon Musk has stated that the cost per Starship launch could be as low as $2 million in the long term. However, a more conservative estimate considering current technological and operational factors might be around $10 million per launch.

Step 5: Calculating Total Cost

Using the more conservative estimate of $10 million per launch:
\[ \text{Total cost} = \text{Number of launches} \times \text{Cost per launch} = 22 \times 10 \text{ million USD} = 220 \text{ million USD} \]

Additional Considerations

Conclusion

Assuming ideal conditions and no additional complexities, it would take approximately 22 launches of SpaceX's Starship to transport the equivalent weight of a Sumner-Class Destroyer to space. The estimated cost for these launches would be around $220 million. However, the overall project cost, including assembly and additional infrastructure, would be significantly higher.
(Compare this to the cost of building the International Space Station, and explain why this is such a game changer when it comes to developing a space-based civilization.)

Comparison to the International Space Station (ISS)

Cost and Launches of the ISS

  1. **Cost**: The International Space Station (ISS) has an estimated total cost of around $150 billion over its lifetime. This includes development, construction, and ongoing operational expenses.
  2. **Launches**: Constructing the ISS required more than 30 Space Shuttle missions and numerous launches from international partners (Russia, Europe, Japan).

Weight and Construction

Comparison with Building a Sumner-Class Destroyer Using Starship

  1. **Cost**:
  1. **Launch Efficiency**:

Game Changer for Space-Based Civilization

Cost Reduction

Increased Payload Capacity

Scalability

Rapid Development

Impact on Space-Based Civilization

Infrastructure Development

Scientific Advancement

Conclusion

The dramatic reduction in launch costs and increased payload capacity provided by SpaceX's Starship represents a transformative shift in space development. It lowers financial barriers and logistical challenges, enabling more ambitious projects and rapid expansion into space. This transition from high-cost, low-frequency missions to affordable, frequent launches is a crucial step towards establishing a sustainable and thriving space-based civilization.
Considering the implications like this side by side REALLY REALLY shows that the Artemis Program is being WAY WAY WAY too conservative in what it wants to do. I know that some people say that there is no way we will have a million person city on Mars by 2050 but looking at it like this really puts things into perspective - I think it is totally possible.

2024.05.19 00:17 Western_Peanut_9330 Trying to report a monster, and it feels like no one cares.

I have recently lost all faith in the justice system, and it feels like law and order is just a farce. My step father is a monster, and a sociopath, and no matter how hard I try I cannot get anything done. My mother married my step father when I was ten years old, and he began grooming me when I was eleven. Walking around naked and saying it was natural. Making me watch adult movies with him, then escalating to making me watch child p*rn. And then he started to sexually assault, and r*ape me when I was fourteen. And It kept going all the way up to when I was thirty-two. I know that sounds hard to believe, but he controlled our whole lives. I couldn’t get a job so I had no money. We didn’t have any friends. Our family wasn’t allowed to visit. He would tell me that the problem with calling the police is a lot can happen between when you pick up the phone, and they arrive. That it only takes a second to pull a trigger, or to push in a knife. That the sounds people would make when they were stabbed in the chest, would get his heart racing. He would clean his guns when he was angry, often mock pointing at me and pulling the trigger. I sometimes wished that the gun was loaded so I wouldn’t be trapped with him anymore. But worried for my mother. He started to physically abuse my mother too, so we were trapped. When I was younger he would toy with me making me do things like drink anti-freeze, but said it was game. I guess at eleven years old you don‘t know any better. Over the past few years he has begun to get more violent, and started down the anti-government route. Saying stuff that he will be the spark of the revolution. That he will bring this whole thing down. He bought a plate carrier vest (bullet proof vest), for ”when it all goes down”. He has been amassing an arsenal of guns, and recent started to acquire stolen firearms. What he would do is get close when an elderly person who has firearms registered to them, take them, and then tell the police that he “disposed of them” or a “buy back program” so they wouldn’t have to worry about them, and then keep them for himself. He has over 300 firearms, which I have a complete inventory of, as well as the stolen firearms. I know that sounds like a made up amount but there was safes in every corner of the house full of guns. Which he was only one that had keys too. He has been stockpiling ammunition as well, green tips/black tips, hollow point, tracer rounds which all together would be close to 1 million rounds, which I have pictures of. He has has a few hundreds pounds of gun powder, and knowledge of the anarchist cookbook. He claims to be a navy seal, often wearing navy seal shirts, and other clothing, bragging about it to people. But we got in contact with NCIS and the national archives which said he was only a marine for fourteen months. So that was all a lie. I recently was able to leave for the sole reason that I lost my mother. I do not even know if foul play was involved, I just had to leave before I was next. So I was able to escape with the help of family. But now scared that no one is there, what could he be doing? He kept saying how he has the means, that he will be remembered. That he will lead the charge, ignitting the fires of rebellion. I have reported and filed out police reports for a total of four different states police, as well as the FBI and ATF. I have even reached out to my local congressman, because they say they can intervene on your behalf for federal agencies. But all his office said that they submitted a tip as well. I have evidence, other people have submitted reports against him too, but nothing is happening. I keep checking the news, scared that one day I will see his face and that he blew up a government building or took down a plane which he has access too since he works at an airport. I am begging people that he is a danger to the community, that not only is he a pedophile but he will make Timothy McVeigh look like a choir boy. He is a monster, he likes to hurt people, he most definitely will hurt people, and I cannot get anyone to help. Everyone Is more interested in agendas then safety. It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when. He will kill hundreds of people and no one will stop it. God help us all.

2024.05.19 00:17 Front_Comfortable_53 How do I overcome body shaming as a man (31M) from women (30F) on dates?

Tl:dr: As a man, I have gotten shamed for my sexual performance or my organ when what I am being shamed for is not in their control. Both men and women deserve to be treated kindly and respectfully during sex, whether it's during the first few dates or during an ONS.
As a man, I have had first-hand experiences with women on dates objectifying me and shaming me for any of the following:
  1. Erection issues
  2. Coming too fast
Thankfully, I haven't shamed for a small one yet, possibly because I have an average-sized one. But I can imagine the shaming would extend if I had it smaller.
I have had women say “really??” and then wear their pants and walk out in rage or disdain as if I intentionally did something to hurt or offend them. Women may think it’s selfish of me when I am not getting it up or coming too fast. But I wish they understood that we don’t control our organ at will. It's not a switch that I can press.
Why would I want to come too fast or not get it up? Of course, men are trying to please the woman and to please themselves but failing.
Before you say, “learn to please them differently”, let me tell you I would love to. But in my experiences, women don’t even give me a chance for that. They’re just too disappointed with my ED or PE, and make a face and leave, without any conversation. It feels very hurtful, and degrading and I feel like an object.
Before you say, "you may have lifestyle issues", I actually am averagely lean at 17% body fat, work out 2-3 days a week, and get 8k steps and 7 hours of sleep. I only drink socially 1x a week and don't smoke weed or cigarettes.
Before you say, "get to know the person and get some experience", I don't understand how am I supposed to get experience if women walk out of the door because of a poor first time sexual experience?
I am sure a woman would consider it rude af if I got up and left in a rush right after sex or said demeaning things to her. Even if it’s a ONS, men and women deserve to be treated respectfully, gracefully and with empathy.
How do I get over shaming of my body, sexual experience, and abilities?

2024.05.19 00:15 TechnicalCoyote3341 Need a little bit of guidance if possible

Long story short;
My partner has asked for an open physical relationship last year. I reluctantly agreed putting their feelings above my own but said I didn’t want them coming home telling me about it and it was physical only.
Obviously, that blew up in my face. Omission, flat out lies and the whole EA side of things - coupled with it actually being a mutual friend in an FWB type setup.
I asked them to call it off as I wasn’t on board. They did, job done right?
Wrong. They went out to a concert with this person around Christmas, got stupid drunk and ended up making out with them. They eventually told me, I was devastated
We got into a pretty intense bout of questioning from me where it turned out more things had happened which they flat out lied to me about in the first place (not by omission, specifically stating things weren’t happening that were)
Since that they allegedly cut off this person, told them they are no longer friends and not to contact them.
Obviously they have, little meaningless things but contact all the same
To me that either means my partner didn’t set that boundary or isn’t enforcing it
I asked them to let me know if they ever got in contact. That is apparently stepping on their liberty, but they finally agreed reluctantly
They think it’s not a big deal, because it isn’t to them and I shouldn’t be so worried about it but I don’t think they understand the damage that has been done to my trust with the trickle truthing of the whole thing. They are fed up with me asking because they’ve told me everything and have nothing more to say
I keep going back to the issue because for me, it isn’t resolved. I get berated for seemingly wanting to know details and asking sometimes very awkward questions about what actually happened which - and I quote - “I have no right to ask questions like that”
I’ve tried explaining that it damaged my trust and in order for that to rebuild I have to want to trust, and they have to consistently demonstrate they can be trusted
It doesn’t help that since Christmas there’s been a slew of other things, all totally inconsequential, that my partner has lied to me about and subsequently TT’d me on as well. Sometimes never even getting close to the lie.
I snooped on their phone last week because I had to know the truth
I’d already tried months of presenting my case, pleading, begging for the truth - even going so far as to say I was developing trust issues and couldn’t believe what I was being told. Apparently “thats entirely a you problem to sort”
At least I didn’t find evidence of cheating, but everything else I suspected was true
They’re now telling me that my behaviour is questionable and they don’t know if they can be ok with that. I explained the whole broken trust thing and was told “you can therapise yourself as much as you want. You need to take a look at your thoughts, you are a very confused person”
What on earth do I do here?

2024.05.19 00:14 Specialist_Paper7226 AITA for cutting contact with my Mom?

I (31F) was sexually abused as a child by my mom’s second husband (my step father). I disclosed the abuse to her the SAME DAY it happened when I was 9, and she chose to acknowledge it and she believed me, but didn’t do anything about it. She openly said to me, that she wasn’t going to act on it and what on earth did I expect her to do. She outlined and guilt tripped me as a child by stating that if we went to the police, we would lose our house, have to move from friends etc. She stayed with him, I stayed in the same house, she brushed it under the rug and pretended like nothing happened. Long story short I had to live another hellish few years of my childhood and teens with this guy still trying to abuse me constantly, with several other incidences happening and with me not telling my mom about the other incidences, as I had no trust in her to do anything. Around the same time she cut me off from my bio father who lived out of state, but who I would see regularly, but from the time I told her of the first incident, I stopped seeing him. As an adult I now see she was trying to avoid him finding out about the SA.
Fast forward in to my adult hood, I left home fast at 17 and waded through addiction, substance abuse and major anxiety… not a wonder though with my past. I get through all this in to adult hood and have 3 beautiful children with my partner. My mom still lives with this guy, I still associated with my mom and visit on holidays and NEVER let my kids near this creep. Most of my time spent with my Mom is her coming to me without the creep.
Fast forward again, and someone approaches me to tell me they have been SAd by this same guy as a child… which brings out that he had also abused ANOTHER child. These two didn’t know I was also abused before disclosing to me, but I then tell them. This starts the process of cop involvement and eventually he was charged, went through trial (where he plead NOT GUILTY all throughout) and in the end he was found guilty and sentenced. The dude is an offical pedo. The cops also questioned why she didn’t protect me as a child, but nothing came of it.
When it came out that pedo had also abused two other children, I went to my Mom and said I think it’s time to stop playing the games, this guy is dangerous, your grandchildren need to be completely away from him and you need to get away from him.
She chose not to. She states that all her finances are tied in with him, she’s nearly retirement age and by going through the court process like I did, I have ruined her life.
I totally understood that this was life changing for her. I also know that she’s sleeping in the bed she’s made by not dealing with my abuse as a child, but I was willing to forgive and help her forge a new life and move on together as a family. Again, never underestimating how her life would be turned upside down. There were multiple offers of support to help her, financially and emotionally.
She has now made my life hell, by turning a lot of close family against me, not telling them the full truth of what actually happened, blatantly lying and saying that he was charged and sentenced because me and the other victims set him up. I have been on the end of some vile comments and messages accusing me of ruining her life.
My partner and I decided enough was enough and cut contact with her.
AITA here? She certainly has told the whole world I am and I’m trying to do what’s best for my family, but I feel like I’m under a spell of manipulation and that she is actually kinda crazy.
Help?

AllTalk correctly generates the .wav file, but it doesnt send it alongside the text response and the image. Hi Reddit,
I need some advice regarding a prolonged estate settlement issue in New York City. Here’s a brief overview of my situation:
Given the significant delays and lack of communication, I am considering filing a petition to remove the executor. I’ve already drafted a petition and gathered documentation, but I’ve encountered a few obstacles:
  1. High Legal Costs: I was quoted $5,000 for a retainer and $450 per hour for legal representation. This is quite expensive for me.
  2. Income Considerations: I have a high income of $150,000, which might disqualify me from free or low-cost legal aid services.

My Questions:

  1. Self-Representation: How difficult would it be to handle the removal of the executor myself? Has anyone done this successfully, and what should I be aware of?
  2. Pro Bono or Sliding Scale Services: Are there any legal aid organizations or resources in NYC that might offer assistance despite my income level?
  3. Next Steps: What should my immediate next steps be in ensuring that the estate is settled properly and in a timely manner?
I appreciate any advice or insights from those who have dealt with similar situations. Thank you!
