On my 2nd playthrough after a few years (in the intervening years I convinced myself that RDR2 or Last of Us series were the best games of all time... No, it's still W3 by a country mile!) and the depth of the dialogue and how specific the accents are REALLY delivers a sense of place. Anyone else ever marvel at this? As a Brit I find the spectrum of UK accents in the game fascinating (and great). Although obviously it's a fantasy world which leans into medieval Eastern Europe for architecture, NPC lifestyles, lore etc, it's interesting that they went so hard into REGIONAL UK characters (rather than American characters, or posh English accents only).
I wonder if US players even realise how bang on and incredible both the writing of the dialogue and its regional specificity, and the spot-on accents, are. Like not just any British writer in the team could have delivered the thousands of accurate and historical lines of English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish lingo. As someone who works in creative industries (film), I just know CDPR must have consulted HEAVILY to achieve what they did. It's not just a throwaway 'top of the morning to ye' stereotypical inclusion of regional accents and language - it's deep, it's of an older antiquated era, you find that older characters use even more old-fashioned regional lingo, it's amazing.
And what a choice to reflect the whole spectrum of the British Isles with this too. Although it can lean into stereotype (often the 'cockney'/London accents are urban ruffians and thugs in Novigrad, Scottish warmth amongst the dwarves, posh=evil as usual, etc) it's striking how you notice the change upon arriving in Skellige, where the people are a proxy for agrarian and traditional Irish. Or the Brummie/Black Country accents of the Baron and his gang. The RP posh and educated southern English accent of the elves vs the more uncouth southern English accent of someone like Ves. Particularly if you're British (or just culturally knowledgable) you instantly learn so much about class in the W3 world from the way people sound alone, because it's mirroring the history of accents in relation to class in the UK for real.
I find it all adds so much to the experience of the game - and not least because the actors also KNOW what they're doing with the dialogue - these aren't some random 20-something British actors playing at regional accents - you can hear they've gone with experts who know those worlds.
Just wanted to share because I rarely see the voicework discussed on the sub and for me it's a total highlight!

IT'S THE DIRTIEST JOKES THAT STAY WITH YOU Years after watching Team America: World Police on DVD, the only 2 scenes I remembered were a disgustingly graphic scat sex scene between two marionettes, and a scene of man-on-man oral sex that ended with the superior saying it would be hard to make his subordinate into the perfect soldier... because he's gay now. WATCH OUT FOR THAT TIE FIGHTER! That's right, Jyn never comes face-to-face with a TIE fighter in Rogue One, despite it being one of the most exciting shots from the trailer.

It was called Edge of Tomorrow, though you wouldn't know it from the constant repetition of the tag line in the trailer and minimal use of the actual title. We visited Australia during March/ April this year for my sister's wedding and it was honestly such a horrendous trip. My mum made me feel so guilty for choosing to get married in the UK, and said she wouldn't be coming because she couldn't afford it. I offered to pay for her flight and have her stay with us. That offer had been on the table for years, through both my fiance and me. She said no and laid the guilt trip on really thick. She screamed at me a lot about how I wasn't taking her position into consideration. I'd thought of everything for her: she had 6 weeks of time off work that she could dip into, I had several people who could take care of her dog, I'd worked out the logistics of her potential trip here. She just said I was playing the victim because I was acting all like "look what I've done for you and you still say no." It was all about the fact that I wasn't having an Australian wedding, how cruel I was being to not include everyone. I had one sister (the one whose wedding I went to Australia to attend) say no, and the other was very anxious about the flight and potentially doing it alone. But everyone else in my life in Australia was going to come!! Extended family and friends, my immediate family were the only ones who kicked up a stink and said no.

Thing is, I'm still just so angry with how everything was handled. I've suspected mum of covert narcissism for a while, and a lot of things on this trip confirmed it. So when it comes to walking down the aisle, I'm stuck.
I'm estranged from my dad (overt narc).
Mum walked my sister down the aisle, I think she expects it at my wedding too. I just really don't want her to. I'm angry, and she hasn't been a support to me at all. In fact she's been an obstacle in my growth in so many ways. That's a whole other post.
Before she was coming, I had planned to ask my uncle to walk me. Mum knew this. My uncle is a sweetheart who has always been good to me, but in all honesty he hasn't had a pivotal role in my life, purely because we never saw much of him and the family (he's mum's sister's husband). He's the closest older male to me in my family though, and I'm sure he'd be happy to walk me down. I'd love for him to walk me down too, but I wonder if that would create drama, choosing my mum's sister's husband over my mum. My mum is extremely bitter towards her sister, and I can already hear the angry remarks about honouring her sister's family over her. Also the whole "I flew all this way and I've been overlooked."
Then there's the option of walking myself. I'd be fine with this too. I've walked life largely alone emotionally, since my late teens, until I met my fiance who is my absolute rock. If it's about choosing who's been the biggest support to walk me down the aisle, my fiance would. I think it would send a message to mum as well, that I'm not being handed over and I'm strong as I am without her support.
Idk what to do!
