Readily, dear Hermesianax, most honoured of my many kinsmen, and in due order will I expound the forms of savage creatures and their deadly injuries which smite one unforeseen, and the countering remedy for the harm. Now I would have you know, men say that noxious spiders, together with the grievous reptiles and vipers and the earth's countless burdens, are of the Titans' blood - 10 if indeed he spoke the truth, Ascraean Hesiod on the steeps of secluded Melissēeis by the waters of Permessus. And it was the Titan's daughter who sent forth the blighting scorpion with sharpened sting, when she compassed an evil end for Boeotian Orion, and attacked him after he had laid violent hands upon the immaculate raiment of the goddess. Thereupon the scorpion, which had lurked unobserved beneath a small stone, struck him in the ankle of his strong foot. But Orion's wondrous sign is set conspicuous, fixed there amid the constellations, 20 as of one hunting, dazzling to behold.
You for your part will easily chase and dispel all creeping things from farmstead and cottage, or from steep bank, or from couch of natural herbage, in the hour when, to shun parching summer's fiery breath, beneath the sky you make your bed on straw at nightfall in the fields and sleep, or else beside some unwooded hill or on the edge of a glen, where poisonous creatures feed in multitudes upon the forest, or beside the levelled perimeter of the threshing-floor, and where the grass 30 at its first burgeoning brings bloom to the shady water-meadows, at the time when the snake sloughs the withered scales of age, moving feebly forward, when in spring he leaves his den, and his sight is dim; but a meal of the fennel's sappy shoots makes him swift and bright of eye.
You may expel the hot and harmful doom that snakes bring, if you char the tined horn of a stag, or else set fire to dry lignite, which not even the violence of a fierce flame consumes. Cast also upon the fire the foliage of the male fern with its cloven fronds, 40 or take the heated root of the frankincense-tree mixed with an equal measure of garden-cress; and mingle the fresh, pungent horn of a roe, putting an equal weight of it in the balance. Burn also a portion no less heavy of the strong-smelling black cumin, or else of sulphur, or again of bitumen. Or you may ignite in the fire the Thracian stone, which when soaked in water glows, yet quenches its brightness at the least smell of a drop of oil. Herdsmen gather it for themselves from the river of Thrace which they call Pontus, where the Thracian shepherds 50 who eat ram's flesh so follow after their leisurely flocks. Again, the heavy-scented juice of all-heal stimulated over a fire, and the stinging nettle, and cedar cut with saws and ground to dust by their many-toothed jaws, produce in burning a smoky and repellent stench. With these means you may clear hollow clefts and couches in the woods, and may sink upon the ground and take your fill of sleep.
But if these things involve trouble, and night brings bed-time near, and you are longing for rest when your work is done, then gather to yourself among the eddies of some rushing river 60 the water-loving, leafy mint, for it grows in plenty by streams and is fed with the moisture about their edges, as it delights in gleaming rivers. Or you should cut and strew beneath you the flowering willow, or the strong-smelling hulwort, which has a most offensive odour; so too have viper's bugloss and the leaves of marjoram, aye, or of wormwood, which grows wild upon the hills in some chalky glen, or of tufted thyme from pasture-lands : tenacious of life it draws sustenance from a damp soil, deep-rooted, ever furnished with hairy leaves. 70 And you should mark the pale spikes of the low-growing fleabane and of the agnus castus, and the pungent stinking bean-trefoil. Likewise cut the rough twigs of the pomegranate, or else young and flourishing shoots of the asphodel, and deadly nightshade, and the horrid hypericum which injures the herdsman in the springtime when his cows are poisoned by eating the stalks; and further stems of the heavy-scented sulphurwort whose very odour scares snakes and chases them away should they approach you. so place some of these by you wherever you make a casual couch in the fields; others where snakes lurk, and a double quantity at their holes.
80 Now make in an earthen vessel or an oil-flask a paste of juniper berries and anoint your supple limbs - or of the heavy-scented sulphurwort; or else pound thoroughly in oil the dried leaves of fleabane from the hills, and likewise the healing salvia, adding the root of silphium, which the grater's teeth should grind small - many a time too have noxious creatures fled in terror from the scent of a man's spittle. But if you rub a caterpillar from the garden in a little vinegar, the dewy caterpillar with a green back, or if you anoint your limbs all about with the teeming fruit of the marsh mallow, 90 then you will pass the night unscathed. Also cast in and rub down in the stony heart of a mortar two leafy sprays of wormwood mixed with garden cress - an obol's weight is suitable - and with a pestle pound therein to smoothness a handful of fresh berries from the bay; then mould into rounds and put to dry in a shady, wind-swept spot; when dry break them in pieces in an oil-flask, and you can anoint your limbs with it at once.
If however you can cast snakes coupled at a crossroads, alive and just mating, into a pot, and the following medicaments besides, 100 you have a preventive against deadly disasters. Throw in thirty drachmas' weight of the marrow of a freshly killed stag and one-third of a chous of rose-oil, - essence which perfumers style 'prime' and 'medium' and 'well-ground' - and pour on an equal measure of raw, gleaming oil and one-quarter of wax. These you must quickly heat in a round, bellying pot until the fleshy portions are softened and come in pieces about the spine. Next take a shaped, well-made pestle and pound up these many ingredients in a mixture with the snakes; 110 but cast aside the vertebrae, for in them a venom no less deadly is engendered. Then anoint all your limbs, be it for a journey or for a sleep or when you gird yourself after work at the threshing-floor in summer's drought and with pronged forks winnow the high pile of grain.
But if you should chance to come upon biting creatures when your skin is un-medicined and you are fasting - that is the time when disaster strikes a man - you may readily save yourself by our precepts. It is the female snake that attacks with its bite those who encounter it; besides, it is thicker right down to the trailing tail, 120 and for that reason the doom of death will come more swiftly. But chiefly in summer must you be on your guard against harmful snakes, observing the rising of the Pleiads, those smaller stars which graze the tail of the bull in their course, when the dipsas either sleeps unfed with the young it broods, lurking in the recesses of its hole, or when it makes eagerly for its feeding-ground, or when therefrom, sated with the forest, it goes sleepily to its lair. Beware of meeting at the crossroads the dusky male viper when he has escaped from her bite and is maddened by the blow of the smoke-hued female, 130 in the season when, as the male covers her, the lustful female fastens upon him, tearing him with her foul fang, and cuts off the head of her mate; but forthwith in the act of birth the young vipers avenge their sire's destruction, since they gnaw through their mother's thin flank and thereby are born motherless. For alone of snakes the female viper is burdened with pregnancy, whereas oviparous snakes of the forest warm a membrane-enclosed brood. Beware too when the viper, having doffed the wrinkled scales of age, comes abroad again exulting in his new-found youth; beware when, after escaping in his hole from the trampling feet of deer, 140 he darts in fury his limb-corroding venom at men; for red deer and roe cherish a special anger towards long reptiles and track them down, exploring on every side stone-heaps, walls, and lurking-places, following hard after them with the dreadful breath of their nostrils.
Furthermore the snow-capped crags of Othrys too bear deadly serpents, and hollow gully and rough crags and woodland scaur, where haunts the thirst-provoking seps. It has a varying hue and not one alone, ever taking the colour of the place wherein it has made its hole. 150 Those that live in stony ground and cairns are smaller but fierce and irascible: no bite of theirs can fail of effect on man, but is malignant. Another's body is like a land-snail; yet another has scales of greenish hue which variegate its huge coil; and many there are that frequent dusty places and make their coils rough by wriggling in the sand.
Consider now the murderous asp, bristling with dry scales, the most sluggish of all snakes. 160 Its form is terrifying, but when in movement, it uncoils its weight slowly and ever seems to wear a fixed look in its drowsy eyes. Yet when it hears some strange noise or sees a bright light, it throws off from its body dull sleep and wreathes its coil in a circular ring upon the ground, and in the midst it rears its head, bristling in deadly fashion. Its length, horrible beyond that of any other of earth's creatures, measures a fathom, and its thickness is seen to be that 170 which a spear-maker fashions for a hunting-spear for fighting bulls and deep-voiced lions. Sometimes the colour spread over its back is dust-like, sometimes it is the yellow of a quince and sheeny, at other times an ashen hue, but often, when it grows dark with Aethiop soil, a smoky brown like the sludge which the many-mouthed Nile in flood pours into the sea, as it dashes against the waves. Above the brow over the eyes there appear, as it were, two calluses, while its eye beneath them glows bright red aloft over its coil and its dust-coloured neck swells up as it hisses continuously, 180 when in the violence of its wrath it fastens death upon wayfarers who meet it. It has four fangs, their underside hollow, hooked, and long, rooted in its jaws, containing poison, and at their base a covering of membranes hides them. Thence it belches forth poison unassuageable on a body. Be they no friends of mine whose heads these monsters assail. For no bite appears on the flesh, no deadly swelling with inflammation, but the man dies without pain, and a slumberous lethargy brings life's end.
190 Now the ichneumon alone escapes unharmed the asp's onset, both when it comes to fight and when it breaks on the ground all the baneful eggs which the deadly serpent is brooding, as it shakes them out from their membranes by biting them and crushes them in its destroying teeth. The form of this snake-tracking creature is that of the puny marten which seeks the destruction of domestic fowls, snatching them from their perches as they sleep, where they roost upon a beam or foster their feeble chicks, keeping them warm beneath their breast. 200 But when amid Egypt's rush-grown water-meadows they join with the wriggling asps in a fearsome struggle, forthwith the Ichneumon leaps into the river, strikes the slimy bottom with its paws, and rolling its small body smears its limbs at once with the mud, against the time when the Dog-Star's heat has dried its fur and made it so that no fang may rend it. And then it either springs upon the frightful head of the reptile with the flickering tongue and bites it, or seizing it by the tail, sends it rolling into the weedy river.
You would do well to mark the various forms of the viper. It may be long, it may be short; 210 for so Europe and Asia breed them, but you will not find them alike. Thus, in Europe they are smaller, and above the tip of their nostrils they are horned and white, those, that is, beneath the mountains of Sciron and the Pambonian steeps, Rhype, and the hill of Corax and hoary Aselenus; whereas Asia breeds snakes a fathom long and even more, such as are about rugged Bucarterus or are contained within the strong headland of Aesagea and in Cercaphus. The front of their heads is flat, and at the trailing end of its coil 220 the creature wriggles a stunted tail which is abundantly rough with dry scales. And this way and that through the brakes it strays with sluggish coil. But every male viper is seen to have a pointed head. In length he is sometimes larger, sometimes short, and in breadth of belly he is slimmer, while his tail stretches tapering away, and may be flattened towards the end of its trailing length or rubbed smooth of scales. But the eyes in his face turn blood- red when he is angered, and as his forked tongue flickers rapidly, he lashes the end of his tail. 230 Wayfarers call him the snaky Cocytus. Two fangs in his upper jaw, as they spit poison, leave their mark upon the skin, but of the female always more than two, for she lays hold with her whole mouth, and you can easily observe that the jaws have opened wide about the flesh. And from the wound she makes there oozes a discharge like oil or, it may be, bloody or colourless, while the skin around starts up into a painful lump, often greenish, now crimson, or again of livid aspect. At other times it engenders a mass of fluid, and about the wound small pimples 240 like slight blisters rise flabbily from the skin, which looks scorched. And all around spread ulcers, some at a distance, others by the wound, emitting a dark blue poison; and over the whole body the piercing bane eats its way with its acute inflammation; and in the throat and about the uvula retchings following fast upon one another convulse the victim. The body is oppressed also with failures of sense in every part, and forthwith in the limbs and loins is seated a burdening, dangerous weakness, and heavy darkness settles in the head. Meantime the sufferer 250 at one moment has his throat parched with dry thirst, often too he is seized with cold from the finger-tips, while all over his frame an eruption with wintry rage lies heavy upon him. And again a man often turns yellow all over his body and vomits up the bile that lies upon his stomach, while a moist sweat, colder than the falling snow, envelops his limbs. In some cases his colour is that of sombre lead, in others his hue is murky, or again it is like flowers of copper.
You would do well also to learn of the crafty cerastes, who attacks like the male viper, which he resembles in equality of size. 260 True, the viper is hornless, whereas the cerastes boasts sometimes four horns sometimes two, and his dust-coloured skin is rough, and it is his habit to sleep in the sand or in the ruts down a road. The viper writhing himself darts swiftly forward on a straight course with the long winding of his belly, whereas the cerastes rolls on with clumsy movements of his middle, meandering on a crooked path with his scaly back, like to the dinghy of a merchantman dipping its whole side in the brine when the wind is contrary, 270 as it forces its way to windward when driven back by the south-westerly gale. When the cerastes bites, the disfiguring wound turns callous all around like a wart, and livid blisters like drops of rain move round about the bite, dimly discernible to the eye. True, the man in whom the deadly cerastes strikes his mischief-working fang goes through less acute pain, but nine suns of suffering does he behold. And in either groin and the hams the trouble festers persistent ever, while his skin has a livid appearance. 280 And from their suffering little strength is left in the joints of those afflicted, and with difficulty do they escape death.
Next I will tell you what marks the blood-letting snake, which always sleeps in rocky ascents, making a small, rough lair under a hedge. There it has its lurking-place when it has gorged its fill. It equals a footprint in length, but as to breadth it dwindles tapering from the fiery head down. At times it is of a sooty hue, or again a reddish brown. It narrows moderately at the neck, and its tail is sharply compressed 290 and stretches flattened from the middle onward. In its forehead beneath its snow-white horns are planted two eyes, of which the irises are somewhat like those of locusts, and on high rises terrible its devouring head. And with an oblique and halting movement it ever steers its little body on its brief journeys from the middle of the back like the cerastes, scraping its belly over the earth, and with its scaly body it makes a slight rustling as though crawling through a heap of straw. But when first it bites, a swelling of dark, unhealthy hue rises, and a sore pain freezes the heart, 300 and the stomach's content turned to water gushes out, while on the first night after, blood wells from the nostrils and throat and ears, freshly infected with the bile-like venom; urine escapes all bloody; wounds on the limbs break open, hastened by the destruction of the skin. May no female blood-letter ever inject its venom into you! For when it has bitten, all together the gums swell from the very bottom, and from the finger nails the blood drips unstaunchable, while the teeth, clammy with gore, become loose.
If the tale be true, Bane-Helen coming from Troy was angered with this species 310 when her company beached their vessel by the tumultuous Nile as they fled before the dread onset of the north wind, what time she beheld Canobus, the helmsman, swooning on the sands of Thonis; for as he slept a female blood-letter, on which he had pressed, struck him in the neck and belched forth its deadly poison into him, turning his rest to ruin. Therefore Helen crushed the middle of its trailing shape, breaking the ligatures of the back about the spine, so that the backbone started from its body. From that day forward the blood-letter and the crooked-roving cerastes alone of snakes move haltingly, oppressed by their injury.
320 You would do well to recognise the form of the sepedon, which in other respects resembles the blood-letter in appearance, but it steers a straightforward path; moreover it is almost without horns, and its colour, like that of a carpet, is spread over a rough surface. Its head is heavy, but its tail appears short as it moves, for it curls the end like the rest of its body. Truly the wound of the sepedon is deadly and agonising, and its black, destroying poison pervades the entire body: upon the parched skin everywhere the hair withers and is dispersed like the down of a thistle when it is rubbed. 330 For from the head and the brows of the man who has been bitten the hairs break off and from the eyelids the dark lashes perish, while round spots bespeckle his limbs and leprous eruptions swiftly spread a chalk-like rash.
Again, the form of the dipsas will always resemble that of a small viper; yet death will come quicker to those whom this grim snake assails. Its thin tail, darkish throughout, grows blacker from the end forward. From its bite the heart is inflamed utterly, and in the fever the dry lips shrivel with parching thirst. 340 Meanwhile the victim, bowed like a bull over a stream, absorbs with gaping mouth drink past measuring, until his belly bursts his navel, spilling the too heavy load. Now there is a tale of ancient days current among men how, when the first-born seed of Cronus became lord of heaven, he apportioned to his brothers severally their illustrious realms, and in his wisdom bestowed upon mortals youth, honouring them because they had denounced the fire-stealer. The fools, they got no good of their imprudence: for, being sluggards and growing weary, they entrusted the gift to an ass for carriage, 350 and the beast, his throat burning with thirst, ran off skittishly....

So I had a tonsillectomy on Thursday (just finished day 3 post op). It’s been horrid. The pain has been so draining, the breathe and taste of cauterized flesh making me so nauseous.
I was told to try eat as normal as possible to aid recovery / prevent infection. I’ve managed some small meals of mac and cheese, lasagne, mashed potato and gravy. I’ve had broth and managed 2 cookies today (tiny bites, and a swig of water to turn them into mush). I’ve been sleeping upright on a big beanbag chair as my uvula is very swollen.
Each night I wake up at 2.15 and I need to clear my throat, the taste is overpowering and I end up spitting out fleshy white bits I assume are scabs melting off. No blood though.
Now I’m just really scared about bleeding. In hospital after my surgery, my right tonsil had a bloody looking spot on it while the left looked fully cauterized. I worried that the surgeons hadn’t cauterized it as well as the left but The doctors weren’t worried and sent me home.
On days 1/2 it seemed to get a white film over it so I thought ‘ok it’s sealed off’. Now day 3 morning, I have a lot of fleshy scab remnants in my throat I have to clear out. Firstly I’m thinking isn’t it a bit soon for that? Or is this normal on day 3? I didn’t have any blood in any of my spit all day but went to check my throat before bed and my right tonsil area has a red splodge on it. I don’t know if it’s a clot or what, but I’m really scared it’s a weak spot that’s going to rupture. As I said, it didn’t bleed today, but I wasn’t expecting to see any red.
Is this normal? Every photo I see of people recovering normal, there’s no red spots or splodges it’s all white. So I’m worried mine isn’t normal

Just found this sub and need to vent about this.
Thought I had a sore throat on Wednesday, found out on Thursday that I had a canker sore growing on my uvula.
Oh my goodness. Absolute agony. I've dealt with these basically all my life. Had them in plenty of different spots, but wow, this is more intense than any ones I've had before. I've probably eaten 1/3 of what I usually eat. Been forcing myself through sheer will power to drink water. Been trying to eat soft and bland foods and just drink water. It's day 5 and still no hope on the horizon. To other people in this sub that have had them on your uvula, how long did it last? Not sure how much longer I can take this. Doesn't help that majority of people completely downplay the pain of these bastards. The pain is so bad it feels like my jaw hurts and it's given me tension headaches. Like a knife being stabbed into the back of my throat.
Been trying usual remedies like saline rinses but doesn't seem to be helping much. Also sucks its in a spot where I can't reach it with Orajel or something on my fingers.

Please help me figure out what this could be
Hello im a 22 year old female and ive never smoked before and rarely drink. Ive noticed this a few days ago and thought it was like a bacterial infection. So i went to urgent care yesterday and they swabbed me for strep but that came back negative. The lady said it could be viral? But idk it look so bad to me. Oh and a few months ago i got swabbed for STDS and everything came back negative as well because i had like a cobblestone throat im guessing due to the post natal drip that i had, which i still have btw. I dont know if this is allergies but like i said it looks too bad. On the right, theres that red spotch and it sort of hurts when i touch it with my tongue. But yeah my tonsils looks swollen, i have red spots all around the tonsils, uvula and throat.

gave someone gawk and during it my throat started hurting one week later it still hurt so i took a look and it was 2 white little spots one on uvula and one on right tonsil someone help?

36 NB, VIC, Australia. Immunocompromised, transplant recipient, neurodivergent+++ multiple mental health disorders. Losing my mind and any shred of sanity I may have had and not getting any help from doctors. Please, please help.
Just noticed this darker small hole within the already gaping hole...is that normal? Throat irritated and sore more often than not lately, but regularly in last 2 years with no apparent cause. Swollen glands on that side. Uvula also swollen & "twisted" (how the doctor described) hard to take a photo of, but shown in pic 2 (taken at the same time, just caught different lighting). Uvula issue 1 month+
Random lumps also seem concerning but doctor previously dismissed...they also said "you've had your tonsils out", which I most certainly have not...I was concerned about the "holes"/gapes in the back of my throat a couple years ago and another doctor has said "that's just your tonsils" and now one saying I apparently don't have any....
Pic 3 is what came out after a Betadine gargle...should I be worried? I thought maybe the bottle was expired but I tried again a week later after using mouthwash as well and didn't get those weird stringy chunks?
Pic 4 is a massive lump ont he opposite side to the hole, that appeared a few days ago and has had random white spots on/surrounding it + have removed stringy pieces (pic 5) & several small hard chunks that are they same size and consistency as what comes out of my skin lesions. Lesion also appeared at same time almost directly in line on my face. I've had a few of these lumps in the last few months and had written them off as some irritation or whatever but they are fairly bulbous and weird and a harder lump can be felt within it.
I've been concerned for some time that the skin lesions that won't go away are some kind of parasite, not because I'm imagining it, but because there are clear migratory patterns between the lesions and linear and serpinigous patterns in them. Never connected my throat irritation to it but now I've seen stuff coming out of the lump that matches the lesions exactly, I'm pretty worried...
I'm on the waiting list to see an infectious disease specialist but due to a string of absolutely horrendous doctors and having to move constantly because housing is so ridiculous, this has been going on severely for a year, but likely started 2+ years ago. I'm not coping, I have no support, isolated in a rural area and having panic attacks almost every day not knowing what this is, how to treat it and terrified its getting worse.

Alright so I’m currently on day 5 (surgery day = day 1) and I want to share my experience for others as there isn’t too much in here regarding UPPP+
I am M24 and I got the UPPP, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy all in one go. I suffered extreme tonsillitis as a child but not consistent enough for doctors to be willing to remove them. Ever since my tonsils have grown with me to the point they were touching and pushing my uvula into the top on my mouth. I fell asleep behind the wheel which resulted in my going for a sleep study, got diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and booked for surgery.
Day 1 (surgery day) Surgery was a breeze, stayed the night in HDU due to how severe my sleep apnea is and the fact I lived over an hour away from the hospital. Was given pain meds in pill form which I had no issues swallowing, pain was almost 0.
Days 2/3 Pain was almost nothing, only slightly spiking when getting close to needing to take pain meds again, swallowing was uncomfortable but not painful. Nose blocked
Day 4 Most painful day yet, woke up with an extremely dry mouth which was agony until I got some ice cold water in. Only pain I had was around the stitches from the UPPP which felt tight and made sore spots in my mouth. These stitches actually split later on in the day which was like an instant pain relief but did leave me with a large blood clot which tasted absolutely foul. I left it alone drinking ice water and eating jelly which eventually knocked the clot loose and I swallowed it.
Day 5 No sleep, nose is still semi blocked which causes me to breath through my mouth while sleeping. I’ve tried with my CPAP, without CPAP and with a humidifier but can’t do it. Get about an hour sleep and wake up in pain due dry mouth. Pain during the day has dropped right back off, stitches have all now fallen out and pain from them gone.
So far so good, while I’m sure the meds have a huge impact on the pain I’ve had or lack of but I’ve been in more pain with tonsillitis then what I’ve had so far from this surgery. My biggest struggle has been the taste. The taste of what I’d describe as rotten flesh and blood has been hard to stomach. Aswell as the lack of sleep.

I (22f) was seen at my PCP Tuesday for sinusitis. It started off with post nasal drip symptoms, fluid in my ears, the whole ordeal. Coughing was at a minimum for the time. Uvula was extremely swollen and had white spot on it. I was given prednisone, Azithromycin, and Promethazine-DM. I took the full course of everything except Promethazine so far. However new and worse symptoms are occurring. I had a very stiff neck and awful headache. I went to urgent care and was given fluids, toradol, and Tylenol, no meningitis according to them. I now cannot keep anything down. I am dry heaving constantly. Awful uterine/ovary region cramps. Chest pain. Itching like an allergic reaction to a medicine(a week or two prior I had a Wellbutrin reaction so I knew the feeling). I just keep feeling worse. Any advice?

I'm just curious if anyone has any insight as to why I have been consistently getting throat and/or strep throat infections for as long as I remember. I had strep and tonsillitis so often and so severe as child and teenager and I finally got my tonsils out when I was 18. The severity of my infections went down a bit but I still get strep at least 3-4 times a year.
Sometimes I am not certain it is strep because I live in Canada and I do not have a family doctor and it's too hard to see walk in doctors here so I don't bother going in to get tested unless it's one of my more severe casss where I literally can't swallow, but due to the symptoms I am pretty confident it is strep due to the symptoms - painful swallow, red spots on uvula, red throat covered in white film/patches, especially where my tonsils used to be, and very swollen lymph nodes.
For the more mild cases where I hold back from going to the doctor I just take as much ibuprofen as I can and wait it out, but it's still very uncomfortable.
Is there a reason I am consistently getting these infections? Even after having my tonsils removed?

My 2yo has been having blood in his stool since feb 10th. He eats a ton but also is still nursing. He has a bowel movement every 2-3 days or so. I have ibs symptoms when I take my adderall that actually look similar to the photos below of the person who apologized for posting poop. I was prescribed it 8ish years ago

I have been suspected of lupus for 8 years
I am baffled because the first doctor I went to after starting this medication 8 years ago was the allergist and told them I think I am allergic! Told me it was unlikely and diagnosed me with chronic idiopathic urticaria. I have developed so many symptoms since then and have been to so many dam doctors.
I am positive I am allergic to my medication, and I’m so concerned now because I breastfeed and my son has exhibited the same rash induced for both of us by heat when I take my medicine (which isn’t everyday unless I need it) except for me even when I don’t take it now I get these hives anytime in the sun or hot shower etc. I several times have asked his doctor, my doctor, my psychiatrist, the pharmacist if this could be from my medicine. Again, unlikely is their response. He constantly has these “viral infections” that he never seems to get over. He is 2 and it feels like since he was like 10 months he has not stopped being sick and like 4 months when he started getting the heat rashes. I think he was 3 months when I went back on this medication.
He gets fevers of unknown origin, constant rashes, wheezing, so many boogers like constant booger crust, constipation, and bloody stool, random vomiting a few times, excessive coughing that sometimes makes him throw up, and sometimes sneezing, sometimes extreme fatigue. He’s literally developed 104.5 fever and rash in the past, over his trunk, arms and groin, shoulders and neck before after I took my medicine for the first time after a few days of stopping it, maybe a couple weeks I stopped. It was always just blown off as a virus. As of this week conjunctivitis in both eyes. Took him to the doctor this week and his ears, throat and eyes looked FINE. To her despite the bit of redness, crusting and puss. She said prob viral once again, nothing to do but wait.
The gag is, my fiancé nor I have gotten conjunctivitis or are sick. Yet at the same time that he developed conjunctivitis I felt like my neck was so sore it was killing me in the back of my neck and the next day the sides were hurting. I noticed the right cervical lymph node was a bit swollen and so painful when I would touch it. I had a severe headache mainly in the right side and when I swallowed the side of my neck where the lymph’s are hurtttt. I also felt I had a pill stuck in the back of my tongue. I check my throat and my uvula is swollen and touching. This is called uvulitis, and yet I’m not sick? Literally no other symptoms no boogers no coughing besides the cough iv has for months, no body fatigue. Tongue felt a bit tingly too which started recently. Every doctor is literally baffled by my skin symptoms, swelling and everything else.
They thought over the years iv had lupus, RA, urticarial vasculitis, seizures, stoke like symptoms etc etc but nothing absolutely nothing comes up. My white blood cells and lymphocytes are usually always high and except on occasion and my neutrophils low since starting this med.
So I start looking up uvulitis and my medicine and bam. Drug induced allergic reaction
I came across kounis syndrome and DRESS. Dress and mimic systemic disease but says it starts 2-8 weeks after the allergic drug is administered but it’s been 8 years!!! I can’t find anything on if it can be present for longer but my first symptom weeks after my first prescription of this drug was hives induced by heat.
My symptoms have been heat hives, I had panic attack symptoms and felt like I was going to pass out so I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia. I get bruising on my veins, specifically my hands, wrists and feet and it’s always in the same spots when it happens. I had what presented as urticarial vasculitis in 2018 where I would get random bruises on my legs that would appear in minutes and look like I just got beat. They would disappear in minutes too, only on my legs. Saw a derm who saw this in action and biopsied the area as well biopsied the eczematous patches I also got around the same time two years after administration on both shins and she is the one who tested and suspected lupus or RA. Came back negative for lupus, ra and the vasculitis. She told me it could take 6 years to diagnosis lupus. The patches on my shins came up as spongiatic dermatitis.
Anyway more symptoms of mine included palpitations, chest pain, dyspnea, diarrhea with mucous sometimes just mucous and straining, muscle weakness, muscle spasms, muscle tension and pain, muscle contractions, I was diagnosed with severe muscle spasms in my neck this year, joins swelling and pain with red surfacing and hot to the touch, mainly hands, knees and feet. My lower legs get this redness and hotness as well and sometimes it travels. Pretty much RA symptoms. My ears get this hotness and redness as well and sometimes my cheeks. The spongiatic dermatitis that I got 6 years ago which never ever went away and flares and gets red and severely itchy during flares, Raynauds symptoms, dizziness upon standing too fast or moving too fast, hot flash or chills or both, feeling like I’m going to pass out, tingling/pins and needles in limbs, stress induced dystonia which I think may be takotsubo syndrome due to the fact I just had a heart monitor because my ekg showed left ventricle abnormalities. This happened about 5 times within the last 2 years and the last time a couple months ago happened the worst. It lasted about 30 minutes and I was having joint flaring and so I went outside to cool it down. When I stood up and walked inside I got extremely hot, dizzy and nauseous and felt I was going to pass out. I saw the black spots (stars) so I went to my room took my emergency lorazapam and tried to lay down and breath. I started to get numbness in my arms and legs which is always how it starts, then my stomach started to vibrate, my entire body following and then I started to feel like it was hard to breath and chest pain and before I knew it my hands were doing 🤌🏻🤌🏻 on their own and I would only move my neck slightly. My feet were pointing and it just felt so painful and like my hands were closing more and more and my feet were pointing more and more even tho they weren’t. I literally couldn’t move. My fiancé said eventually my hands were turning purple and my face was translucent like you could see all the veins in my face. My heart monitor results haven’t come back yet. My stress test and echo were normal but I didn’t take my medicine that day where as I did when I went to the cardiologist and got an ekg. Iv had tongue numbness, confusion, eye twitching and loss of speech or mixed speech, twitches in my chin below my mouth, I get numbness that shoots up the back of my neck at times, temple pain, headaches, goosebumps that would randomly come without being cold on only one patch of one arm and then go away. Nausea, for two years in 2019-2021 I was vomiting for no reason I lost so much weight I was 92lbs at 5’2 usually I’m 110. Ibs symptoms which include diarrhea that always has mucus and right lower abdominal pain just in the inside of my hip bone. I now recently have had extremely low blood pressure at times, at the hospital the nurse asked me if I took any benzos, I think it was like 90/60. When I was at my stress test and echo a few weeks ago it was 86/62. This never happened to me before. I went in for the temp paralysis always diagnosed as “panic paralysis” and this was the first time they drug tested me. Neg for everything but my adderall. I had symptoms of uti and blood in my urine but no uti or bacterial growth. Bladder pain, kidney pain no infection (I have had chronic kidney and uti infections since 3rd grade so I know how it feels) Uhm pain in my butt a few months ago that traveled down my thigh to behind my knee and down to my foot so bad that I felt I could barley walk and pick my leg up. I get shaky at times, severely fatigued, brain fog, slurred speech at times, cuts on my hands that come up in the same spots when I have flares and go away when I don’t. Mainly on my knuckles and I also have petechiae on my elbows, shoulders, legs, arms that just stay. Iv noticed my son has petechiae too.

I had my tonsillectomy on March 7th (I'm a 31F with a very complicated chronic health history) this year due to a host of issues...but the worst ones being huge tonsil crypts that caused major choking episodes. When I say that I had chunks of food and mucus coming out of the crypts (that had to be water picked out daily) I mean it. I was not able to eat anywhere but my home for the last 5 years due to choking episodes and needing to water pick my throat the second that I ate so I wouldn't have major dysphagia (on top of silent reflux and tons of throat mucus due to GI issues). It was exhausting and drained my quality of life in a way that I cannot say. I would barely eat most days. My tonsils on the surface didn't look that bad, but once they were removed they found lots of stones and huge crypts underneath the surface, where the food was going into. I also was a chronic strep carrier and had tons of sinus issues.
This was my fourth surgery this year (I had two cavitation surgeries + a sinus surgery prior to this, all spaced out) so some tools I already had on hand, but I am someone with a ton of food allergies, chemical sensitivities and medication allergies. So needless to say, I was terrified for this surgery because I read through this subreddit and a lot of things people did, weren't possible for me (certain foods, medications, etc). I was also incredibly thin going into this 5'5" and 110 so I was terrified about losing more weight as well. These tonsils had truly robbed so much nutrition, sleep, quality of life, and day to day joy for me for years. I had done literally everything you can imagine holistic to try and save them, but ultimately they were too pitted and could not be saved. I am at 11 days post op right now and couldn't be more grateful that I had this done, despite the recovery. I will say I found the recovery to be challenging during the hardest days (6-9 for me). But I never took any narcotics...I did maybe 8 doses of Tylenol total throughout my recovery and used homeopathy primarily, which worked WONDERS for me. I was really hesitant as to how much it could help me, but there was absolutely no doubt how fast it worked for me and pain. I had my homeopath, who I love, guide me throughout, which was incredible.
Quick overview:
Days 0/1: wasn't that bad...easy to force down tons of liquids and ice chips.
Days 2/3: the mucus was crazy (coming from a girl who already has a ton), and I had nasal regurgitation. Started homeopathics to help with the mucus because I couldn't function. Sinus rinsing + tongue scraping was huge. Got first IV.
Days 4/5: probably the easiest days in terms of pain. Mucus was still present but a lot less. IV's really helped. Swallowing still felt like knives, but was more dull and homeopathics kept it majorly in check. Very swollen tongue.
Days 6-8: wow. I can see why people lose it on these days. Hunger had fully set in, ear pain ramped up, can feel scabs forming more...these days I need intense support from my husband and mom. Wasn't able to hardly do anything. Tongue was massively swollen, so started a homeopathic for that. It helped a lot. Ice in every form brought major relief.
Days 9/10: started to turn a corner. Finally ate some real food tonight (Day 10). I am ravenous now and some of the food I ate tonight sloughed off some of the remaining scabs on the right side. My left side healed faster, which I expected.
I want to share the things that I did + used in hopes that it might help someone! I totally understand the natural route isn't for everyone, it just had to be the route for me, so I wanted to offer my perspective! I'm only 11 days out but I am so so grateful I got this done. I have actually had some food go down as of today and wanted to cry that I didn't have it go into the crypts...it just went down. Something I haven't experienced in over 5 years 😭
Things I did before surgery:

• drank a bottle of pineapple juice to reduce swelling + bruising
• got adjusted (I knew I would be sleeping up and uncomfortable for two weeks so I wanted my body to be as comfortable as it could be going into it..I'm so glad I did because it was all out of whack)
• took arnica a few hours before surgery to reduce chance of bleeding

For post surgery healing:

• Tongue scraper: I used mine several times a day and it made me feel human again.
• New toothbrush: if you've had strep, come how to a clean toothbrush so that way you don't risk all that bacteria back in your mouth! I brushed my teeth multiple times a day, starting on the day of surgery! I used mint toothpaste (a natural one by Jason called Power Smile) and it helped my mouth feel clean so I didn't go crazy
• Salt water rinses: I wouldn't gargle, but I would hold salt water in the front of my mouth especially in the first few days to mainly thin mucus and remove it. As I healed more and more, I would gently gargle to make sure the surgery site stayed clean!
• Daily shower: the humidity helped tremendously to loosen everything up and it just made me feel more human in general. It was good to have something to get up and do and move around to break the day up a bit.
• Sinus rinsing: I talked to two ENT's about this because I am a daily sinus rinser and they said it was okay as long as I was gentle! I cannot tell you how much it helped to thin out the mucus that you drown in the first few days! But I did it at least 2-3 times a day to keep my airway as clear as I could
• A head ice wrap + two throat ice wraps: Icing got me through. I kept one strapped around my throat and the other wrapped around my head pretty much 24/7. I looked like a wounded solider on the field of battle but it was worth it
• Wedge Pillow: I slept sitting up for 9 days straight and I think it helped a TON with swelling. I would only sleep a few hours at a time but it was a blessing because I was up so much that I drank constantly.
• Chewing Gum: the first 5 days, I couldn't....my mouth just hurt too much. But around day 6 when the ear pain kicked in, I was so glad to chew the gum! It does help to relax your jaw and work out the muscles!
• Cool Mist Humidifier: I kept this running beside me 24/7 and it made a world of difference. Since I had my sinus surgery I have been able to nose breathe for the first time in 20 years and it's a miracle 😭 So it did help me to be able to nose breathe, but it kept my throat moist and from drying out!
• Coconut Water: My favorite thing I consumed this entire time! It was so soothing to me that I ended up making ice chips out of it and just eating it that way.
• Aloe Vera Water: so soothing. Oh my word, was just amazing! Promotes rapid wound healing.
• Coconut Oil: I took about 1tsp three times a day because it's a natural healer and it coated my throat and made it so moist!
• Manuka Honey: I took manuka honey several times a day to promote wound healing + reduce inflammation. It really did help (I have used manuka honey lots in the past but was amazed to see how well it worked in this case for healing)
• Quinton Minerals: I took 1-2 packets of these minerals daily because I already had an impossible time swallowing, but I didn't want minerals to impair my healing!
• Bone Broth + Collagen: Would get bone broth + stir collagen in to get some protein!
• IV's: due to my other surgeries earlier in the year (and a really scary sinus post op experience) we decided to get IV's lined up because I got in a really bad spot before hand where I dropped so much weight my heart would pound and I was at risk for passing out. The IV's saved me. You can truly feel them hydrating you from the inside out and it's so much easier to drink (at least it was for me) after them. I truly do not think I could have gotten through without the IV's. I did not get any solid food until day 10, so I was floored reading people's recoveries and how early they were eating. I did have a few days of nasal regurgitation, so I couldn't even get liquids down (which had happened to me after sinus surgery). If you are really struggling, just know this is an option!
• Bianural Beats: I looked up ones on youtube for pain, sleep, wound healing, sinus congestion, throat mucus...anything I was dealing with and they all helped. If the pain was really bad, I would fall asleep listening to the ones for sleep and it would calm my body so much!
• Peppermint oil: inhaling this helped me so much with nausea. I found I had nausea when the scabs started to go down. This and acupressure band for nausea were life saving for me!
• Topical Arnica Gel: I would apply this to my throat and jawline a few times a day. It helped with pain + swelling!
• Homeopathics:
  • Arnica + Mag Phos: these helped me the most with breakthrough pain
  • Rhus Tox: specifically for healing after a tonsillectomy
  • Merc Sol: for swollen uvula + swollen tongue
  • Calc Sulph + Calendula: to promote wound healing
  • Ars Album: for restlessness + anxiety
  • Blend of homeopathics: to reduce mucus...this helped so much

I highly highly highly recommend working with a homeopath to guide you through recovery (if you want to go this route) because I can't recommend the strength or how often (as it was unique to me and I am not a doctor), but it was more effective for me than Tylenol. Which I couldn't use anyways as I broke out in a rash. So homeopathics it was for me...I was floored by how well they worked, I fully intended to take the narcotics and Tylenol until I realized my body couldn't do it.
As far as foods, eating was unbearable for me until day 10. I just couldn't and I just wanted cold liquids anyways. When I could get a bit down, I did these! And I added collagen to literally everything!

• sweet potato + apple + turmeric soup
• cauliflower mashed potatoes with ghee
• dairy free coconut ice cream (vanilla)
• equip protein powder vanilla shake (with macadamia nut milk + collagen + frozen ripe banana + my daily vitamin powder)
• bone broth with lots of collagen mixed in
• coconut water ice chips

I also had a station set up in my recovery area in case I started bleeding. I knew if I did, I would be stressed about trying to find things that would help. There I had:

• hydrogen peroxide and water (1/2 that + 1/2 water gargled can help stop bleeding)
• Phosphorus + Arnica + Ferrum Phos homeopathics can help with bleeding as well
• Afrin (which my ENT said you can put on guaze and press on a bleed if it happens)
• instructions for my caretakers if I did bleed

Other things I did:
I wrote out tips + tricks + reminders for myself about a month ahead. I did lots of research, stocked my pantry, scheduled the IV's ahead of time, prepared notes for my husband and mom and saved all the positive stories I read here. I took screenshots of people who said it was the best decision ever and I wrote myself a long note ahead of time, so that when the pain was bad, I could reason and encourage myself 🤣
Lastly, I had lots of people praying for me and helping support. The last 10 years have been pretty challenging for me health wise (too much to get into here) but I will say the Lord has really helped me every step of the way, so I genuinely pray for all of us who have to have this done. It is such a hard thing, I had tears, I had days I did not want to keep doing this, but I knew it was the right decision for me because of my situation. I hope this can help someone else!
