That’s all it was. A game.
Something my friends and I used to play during the summer when we had nothing better to do. I never expected that it would get so out of hand.
I never expected it to come back long after recovery.
To anyone reading, please don’t do what I did.
I’m putting this out there to warn people.
On that warm summer evening, we played the role of Pandora.
Except, the monsters we released were far worse than what’s told in stories.
Because stories end.
And this doesn’t.
I still remember the date. July 16, 2013. I was an upcoming senior in high school while the others were getting prepared for their freshman year of college, raving on about their majors, life plans, dorms, you get the point. The summer had been bittersweet as those months would be the last I’d see them for a while. Because of this, Anthony, Lola, Eliza, and I would spend the bulk of our time together going to festivals and various camping trips, trying to make the most out of the summer while we could. On that day, the day I wish I could forget, Eliza had run late to one of our hangouts at my place. This was odd since as an Ivy league student, she was usually early or right on time to these kind of things. Half past three, we heard her knocking on my door rapidly, which was also out of character considering that she was usually the calm one in our group. A bit worried, I hurried down the stairs with Anthony and Lola following close behind, expecting Eliza to be in hysterics due to her frantic behavior. When I opened the door, however, there she was with a bright smile on her face, her red hair getting in the way of her eyes, which were a dark green shade. She pushed her hair out of her face with one hand and held a brown box in the other, and she was bouncing up and down as she usually does when she’s about to talk about something exciting.
“You’ll never believe what I found.” Eliza’s voice could barely hold her impatience as she stepped inside and kicked her shoes off once she crossed over my threshold.
“What’s up with you today?” Anthony questioned, looking more confused than concerned now.
“I’ll show you guys in a minute. Can we go up to your room, Felix?” Eliza looked over at me with her trademark smile, knowing damn well we were all too curious to just leave that box unopened. Without a word, I led the group up to my room and shut the door after everyone had walked in. Anthony took his usual spot on my beanbag and unzipped his hoodie, which had the MSM logo sprawled across the front in big red letters. He adjusted his dark rimmed glasses and took on his usual stoic expression. Lola wore a dark blue FIT shirt, which she revealed more of when she moved her locs over her shoulder as she sat on my desk chair and wheeled over to us. As she did, the various necklaces she wore clinked against each other. Eliza herself was the smartest out of the group, and probably in the whole school as well. She had gotten accepted into multiple prestigious schools, but ultimately settled for Harvard to pursue a degree in some obscure philanthropic career. Unlike Anthony and Lola, Eliza wore her regular outfit –usually a white tank top and jeans– and sat on my bed with the box in her lap. I took a seat next to her to get a closer look.
“So what’d you find?” The others moved closer.
“Something we probably haven’t thought about for a really long time. Do you guys remember that one game we used to play in middle school? The one we made after Felix joined our class?” Eliza looked at our puzzled faces to see if we had connected the dots, but her clue didn’t seem to strike any of us with familiarity.
“After Felix joined? Didn’t we just hang out or something that weekend?” Anthony questioned.
“We did, but there was something else,” Eliza raised an eyebrow, “you guys seriously don’t remember?”
At that moment, I saw Lola’s eyes light up and a thin smile grew on her lips, something she always did whenever she was able to figure something out.
“You mean that little map game we played? Where we would go out to the woods and explore?”
Both Anthony and I seemed to have remembered as well with the mention of a ‘map game.’ I chimed in, “ yeah I remember! Every once in a while when we were all bored, we’d pick a random spot on a map to go to and explore there for a bit, right? When did we stop doing that anyways? I remember really enjoying it.”
“Well life happens,” Eliza responded to me, “but I was thinking of things to do for the rest of the summer when I suddenly remembered that game! That’s why I was so late for our meetup today, I was looking through my attic for this.” Eliza shook the box slightly and a couple things clattered around inside.
“There’s no way.” Anthony sounded like he was in disbelief.
“You mean…?” Lola sat forward in the chair. Eliza smirked, her adventurous nature creeping out as realization swept over us like a wave.
“Mhm! I found the map we used to use as well as the things we collected from our little escapades.” With that, Eliza opened the box, revealing a folded piece of paper and various trinkets scattered over the bottom of the capsule. Lola squealed with excitement and immediately snatched the box from Eliza, who simply chuckled and leaned back on the bed.
“No way! Everything’s still in here!” Lola digged through the box and placed whatever objects she found across the blanket. Anthony got up and sat at the foot of my bed, to observe our findings more closely. There was a piece of some clay pottery, some rusty springs and scraps of metal, an old digital camera, and some other random stuff I can’t recall to memory right now. Anthony picked up a spring and turned it in his palm.
“Shit man, this is from that abandoned junkyard we found in 8th grade…that feels like such a long time ago now.”
I examined the piece of pottery with Eliza looking over my shoulder. Lola picked up the digital camera.
“Do you remember where this came from?” I turned to Eliza and held up my discovery.
“No clue,” she shrugged. It must have been a while ago if even she didn’t remember. I turned the piece over and grew curious when I saw weird symbols inscribed on the inside of it. I squinted a bit, trying to discern some sort of pattern within the scribbles.
I turned to Eliza again, “hey, what do you think-”
“OH MY GOD GUYS IT STILL WORKS!” Lola’s voice went up a whole octave as she motioned to us.
The rest of us looked up as she turned the camera to face us. There were various photos we went through. All of us at lakes, museums, exploring the woods; everything we did from 7th grade until my freshman year seemed to be documented. The last photo was arguable the best and msot bittersweet. It was a picture of the whole group from a while ago. We were sitting at Eliza’s dinner table with a giant chocolate cake on the middle of it adorned with two candles shaped like the numbers one and five. Eliza was talking to me in the photo. Her hair was even more red at the time and she wore it in a braid. I looked about the same in the photo as I did then, with light brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles scattered all over my body and face. I was smiling sheepishly at Eliza. I now knew why Anthony said it was obvious I had a crush on her in 8th grade. Lola went through the most changes out of all of us. At the time in the photo, she had her hair straightened and side-swept, with a bright pink streak in her bangs. She wore clunky jewlery and a frilly skirt underneath a long tank top, leaning over the table to cut another slice of cake. All of us had birthday hats on except for Anthony, who kept his sitting on the table. He held up a peace sign staring straight into the camera with a stoic expression. He looked like a statue compared to the rest of us, who were laughing and smiling. You could tell he was having fun, though.
“Well don’t you look like a ray of sunshine,” Lola snickered as Anthony shot her a dirty look.
“At least I didn’t go through some weird scene phase in freshman year,” He smiled and watched Lola’s face, knowing she was blushing despite her dark skin which made it practically invisible. I let a laugh slip out, but quickly stifled it knowing that if I kept going it would mean death. Lola side-eyed me and continued, “I was using my creative liberty to experiment with my options as an artist,” she said with an overly-posh accent that made Eliza laugh.
“Yeah Anthony, don’t be such a downer,” Eliza teased. Anthony simply rolled his eyes and suppressed a smile to pretend like he was mad at all of us. He looked into the box and picked up the paper we left, unfolding it with a hint of excitement and curiosity. When he looked at it, only two words came out of his mouth.
“Holy shit.”
“What, what is it?” Lola tried to look at the other side of the paper, but Anthony quickly held it out of her view.
“What if I didn’t want to show you?” A smile crept onto his face. This was one of those rare moments where he’d be in the moos to joke around with us.
“Don’t be a dick bro,” I said, laughing as I went to grab for the paper. Anthony just held it up in the air and pushed me off of him and I landed on my floor. While he was distracted, though, Eliza took her chance and snatched the paper right out of his hand.
“You boys need to learn to be nice,” she warned in her jokingly stern voice as she unfolded the paper and spread it out onto my bed. We all leaned over to look.
It was a map of a couple towns including ours. There were around ten small star stickers placed on different areas on the map near the streets the four of us lived in. On the top of the map, a couple words were scrawled in black sharpie; “Pick a Place!” I could see everyone’s faces light up.
“Oh my god it’s our map!” Lola shouted and pointed to one of the stars near her street, “this was where we found that old junkyard right?”
Eliza smiled, “I remember that. It feels like such a long time ago now.” She pointed to another star, “and this is where we found that lake we made a hideout of. I still remember swimming in there in 8th grade…”
The four of us reminisced for a while, talking about where we had gone and what we did there, and how impressive it was that we didn’t get tetanus from that junkyard. After nearly an hour of conversation, Eliza asked something that made all of us stop.
“So how about it guys? Do you want to do one last round before the summer ends?”
The rest of us looked around at each other. It was clear we all wanted to do it. Eliza seemed to catch on and she nodded.
“Who wants to pick where we go?”
“How about you do the honors?” Lola suggested, motioning towards the map. “You’re the one that brought this stuff in anyways.”
Eliza raised her eyebrow but didn’t object. Without a word, she examined the map for a few minutes, then placed her finger on one spot a bit far from my house.
“How about here?”
“You think we can make it that far?” Anthony asked.
“Well, we can drive now so why not?”
“You sure there’s some type of trail we can drive on? That spot looks pretty deep in the woods”
“We can find a path to drive on for a bit then walk the rest of the way. C’mon guys, this is probably our last chance to do something like this! Felix, you can drive right?”
Eliza and the rest turned to me with a hopeful expression. I had to comply.
“Sure. No big deal, right?”
All three of them cheered and high fived each other, looking pretty excited to go on one last adventure.
“So when do we leave?” I questioned.
Eliza flashed that smile again, “right now.”
“Right now?!”
“Hell yeah,” Lola chimed in. “It shouldn’t take that long, right?”
“I guess…” Even then I felt uneasy about the whole thing. I didn’t feel prepared enough to go on some random trip into the woods. I needed to pack food, water, flashlights, I had no idea how long this was going to take. Little did I know that those things would be the least of my worries a couple hours from then. I wish I could go back and convince my 17-year-old self that it wasn’t worth it, that I should just convince my friends to stay and talk for the rest of the day. I wish Eliza had never remembered that stupid game. In a way, I’m almost mad at her for what happened, but I know it wasn’t anyones fault. We just wanted to have fun. I wish we could’ve just had fun. But God had a different plan for us. One that made me think Satan himself devised it instead. On July 16, 2013, Anthony He, Lola Smith, Eliza Landserson, and Felix Johanson went on an adventure that none of them were ready for.

I've been shooting cap and ball revolvers for over 2 decades, but I've never owned a rifle before. It was in pretty neglected shape when I got it. The bore was full of rust, and probably hadn't been cleaned well since it was last fired (who knows when). Additionally, it had a good bit of surface rust and wear on the original finish. All the nickel silver fitting were tarnished as well. I used Evaporust to strip the finish and clean the major rust from the bore, before cleaning the bore with a brush and about 1000 patches soaked in ballistol. I refinished the barrel, lockplate, buttplate, and thimbles with Birchwood Casey Plum Brown, with only minor difficulty. It's not perfect, but it's mine and I made it. I've considered stripping the stock, which has some damage to the finish in places, and re finishing it with aquafortis, but I haven't committed to that yet. Anyway, let me know what critiques, comments, suggestions, and recommendations you might have about the rifle and any kit or gear for it. I think I have almost everything to be a half ass mountain man, but I'm new to this still. I've included some photos in its original condition as well for comparison |

Hi Y'all! Back at it with some of the last things in my collection! All prices are shipped conus obo.
1) Tgr Alice - 2 tone, grey top pink bottom. Tiny ding on the side, and one tiny spot on the ano on top (this isn't really visible in use). Otherwise in amazing shape. Comes with an SP star on alu build, a vint black on pc plate build, 2 new pcbs (1 of which is the original), the original brass plate, and a custom sts plate - $2000,
2) Hhkb Pro 2 - Black, stock, blank keycaps. 2006 dated, domes are really nice! Very thin scratch on the back - $160 .
3) Leopold fc200 Black - Completely stock with browns. Good shape, some shine on the keycaps but that's about it - $55.
4) Leopold fc200 White - Completely stock with reds. Good shape, quite a bit of shine on keycaps and the bubbled windowed keys were replacements. They're a very slight shade off from the rest of the keycaps, but it's quite hard to notice - $75.
5) Ibm SSK - So this is basically a nos ssk with original box/foam. Additionally it comes with a nos industrial grey ssk top which looks great on it, basically an ncr ssk. It has been bolt modded, feels and sounds amazing. Comes with the clack factory machine green skull and the checkey as well - $1400.
6) Gon NerD Crystal - Awesome board, and in my opinion in very good shape for it's age and considering it is polycarbonate. Built with clears, and comes with the white pom keycaps. I'm fairly certain this was Last Pilots board, which can be found here https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65501.0. Comes with a spare new pcb - $850.
7) LZ SK - Very hard for me to let go of this one, one of my favorite builds in any keyboard ever. Built with vint blacks on sts, also comes with a spare brand new pcb. Additionally it comes with the acrylic/cone feet bottom which is kind of fun. The cones have been stuck to the acrylic bottom with double sided tape, but they seem pretty sturdy haha. In great shape, no major flaws, only a few very tiny ano imperfections - $1650.

 | This coffee tree we have had for a few years. At the start of the year scale insects appeared and we treated it with thorough spraying of some insect oil from Bunnings, which seems to have worked after a few applications. It seems to be growing more slowly than before, and as you can see in the photos the new growth already has browning tips. Any advice would be much appreciated! I still haven't wiped off the insect oil from the leaves, would that affect the growth? Or is it just the old leaves that are looking sad and only new growth will be improved? Also wuite a new of the leaves have some kind of "tearing" which I'm not sure is leftover from the scale or something else. |

I treated it for pests and it seems to have stopped getting more spots so l'm curious where it was coming from. It's in a room that gets about 60% humidity from a humidifier.  | The Delta Arch MTO with the max wedge sole is quickly becoming a favorite. I’ve worn 55 last with the full heel for the last 5-7 years so it’s taking some adjustment to get used to a wedge.  | For the last few years I thought I'm the Soft Autumn. I had read a ton of articles about color analysis. My appearance always felt muted and greyish to me, so it made perfect sense. I constantly read that Light Summer type tend to have light eyes (mine are hazel?) and pretty much non existent eye frame. As you can see, my lashes are definitely black. Not jet black, but not blonde or grey or anything subtle. My eyebrows are brown... ish gray? My complexion is obviously quite pale. I always considered it neutral, not cold. My skin is sensitive and insanely thin so capillaries are pretty visible, I think it makes me more pinkish. I have a terrible time finding the right foundation. They're usually too yellow, sometimes too pink. On the other hand, the only neutral foundation that I own (a mineral one) looks quite grey on me. My natural hair is super grey dark blonde. I've always hated my natural hair color, because it's looks so full to me. The stylist said this goldenish ginger hair dye that I use is not that terrible, but def not great for me. This white piece visible on the photos is my bathrobe. I don't wear such horrible shade of white in public ;) Sorry for the long post. So I wanted to make a post talking about what has been going on in the fandom for a few months now, why people are leaving and why several of us that usually post a lot especially games for you all and just feel good posts are not doing that as of right now. Several of us popular users here are boycotting the subreddit for a few and here’s why, some of y’all don’t know how to behave or act like civilized humans. We have seen some of the most ignorant racist, transphobic, antisemitic, body shaming, sexist and victim blaming posts/comments here as of recently along with people using the comment section and even DM to harass others. It honestly disgusted me and multiple other users especially us that use this fandom as a safe way to escape from the real world and the issues surrounding us. Y’all need to do better especially the mods not listening to us, when we bring this stuff up to you.
When I first joined the fandom I thought it was quite fun until I realized a few things. One if you disagree with somebody or have a real unpopular opinion you automatically downvoted. I’m sorry but the only reason somebody should be downvoted is they say something that is offensive and wrong, abusing the downvote button isn’t gonna make somebody like your character more. Just have a real conversation with them, maybe you’ll realize you have something in common not everybody has to like the same thing that’s what a subreddit is. Two the amount of hidden micro aggressions especially towards black characters and actors, question why are only certain type of characters allowed to be upset but not Mercedes after being put on the back burner for 2 years, why do some of you see Miss Amber Riley as only a one trick pony who can do only R&B or soul even though she has proven she can do more genres than any girl in the show, why do some of you think that Brittany thinking that Unique is Mercedes is funny even though Amber Riley said it made her uncomfortable and upset. Three, I have dealt with some ignorant and bigoted people in this subreddit, if something is done, it’s only a semi ban. Mods what happened to helping minorities, and saying you would do better after the one user who got the N-word in her comment section. How is stuff like the T slur, telling trans individuals how to feel about trans face, biphobic comments, sexism, antisemitism, comments like I can’t be racist I’m blind and downright victim blaming comment’s allowed, after all of that. Please do better.
Onto my next part, the victim blaming in this subreddit, here’s the fact Samantha Ware had nothing to gain when it came to calling out Lea Michelles behavior. She is for one quite successful in her own right, she literally was in Hamilton and starred in a Netflix original. Also, why would she make something like that up this isn’t a Jussie Smollett situation she had multiple people confirm this. Cast members of Glee literally said, Lea said micro aggressive comments on the set and was just a nightmare to work with during 2020. You don’t forget that, I don’t forget the people that made racist, indigenous I don’t forget the people that made racist indigenous remarks about me throughout high school, definitely don’t forget the micro aggressions From the theatre department which I have talked about here or the people making comments about my sexuality it’s ingrained into you after a certain point. How do you think Samantha and the other black cast members of Glee felt when Lea made those derogatory comments. The fact that you’re following rhetoric that is used against SA victims for victims of racism is bull. They didn’t deserve this, did Yvette Nicole Brown deserve to deal with Lea Michelle Stan’s coming after her sending her racism after defending these people? No! Oh, and remember Lea Michelle was not the only person called out during the BLM movement, Chevy Chase who was YNBs cast member was also called out and he is not coming back for the community movie, so was Alli Larter and the cast of Vanderpump rules.
Mods I am asking you please do something about this problem, me and other members don’t deserve to deal with these types of things and so many of us have become uncomfortable with this subreddit because of it. The Willowbrook Sheriff's Department was unusually quiet, a somber stillness hanging over the bullpen. It had been two days since the grisly discovery in the woods, and the small town was still reeling from the shock and horror of it all. Deputy Sarah Harding sat at her desk, staring blankly at the crime scene photos spread before her. The images were seared into her mind - the mangled remains, the blood-soaked leaves, the strange, unsettling tracks that seemed to belong to no known animal.
But it was what she had seen and heard in the forest that night that haunted her most. The glowing yellow eyes, the bone-chilling growl...it was like something out of a nightmare. And yet, she knew with grim certainty that it was all too real.
Sheriff Ethan Blackwood emerged from his office, his face haggard and his eyes shadowed with exhaustion. He'd been pouring over the scant evidence for hours, desperately searching for some clue that could lead them to the killer. But so far, all they had were more questions than answers.
"Tell me we've got something," he said, his voice rough with fatigue as he approached Sarah's desk. "Anything that can shed some light on what the hell is going on here."
Sarah shook her head, frustration evident in the tense set of her shoulders. "Nothing concrete. The coroner's report came back, but it's just confirming what we already suspected - the victim was mauled by some kind of large predator. But the specifics of the attack, the savagery of it...it doesn't match any known animal in the area."
Ethan's jaw clenched, his gaze distant as he recalled the eerie scene in the woods. The way Sarah had described the glowing eyes watching her from the darkness, the otherworldly growl that had raised the hairs on the back of his neck...it was like something out of a horror movie. And yet, he couldn't dismiss it. Not when he'd seen the raw, primal fear in his deputy's eyes.
"What about the tracks?" he asked, grasping at straws. "Have we been able to identify what made them?"
Sarah pulled out a photo, the image grainy but clear enough to make out the distinctive paw prints. They were huge, easily dwarfing a human hand, and the claws...Ethan suppressed a shudder. Whatever had made those marks, it was no ordinary beast.
"I've sent the images to every wildlife expert and cryptozoologist I could find," Sarah said, shaking her head. "But so far, no one's been able to give me a definitive answer. Some say it could be a bear, others insist it's a wolf...but they all agree on one thing. The size and depth of those tracks...it's like nothing they've ever seen before."
Ethan scrubbed a hand over his face, the weight of the case settling heavily on his shoulders. They were dealing with an unknown predator, one that seemed to defy all logical explanation. And with each passing day, the likelihood of another attack grew higher.
"Okay," he said at last, his voice grim with resolve. "We need to widen our search. Talk to the old-timers, the hunters, anyone who might have seen or heard something that could give us a lead. And we need to warn the public. Tell them to stay out of the woods until further notice, and to report any unusual sightings immediately."
Sarah nodded, already reaching for the phone. "I'll put the word out. And I'll keep digging into the historical records, see if there have been any similar attacks in the past that might give us some insight."
As she set to work, Ethan retreated to his office, his mind racing. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were dealing with something beyond their understanding. Something that lurked in the shadows, waiting to strike again.
And as he stared out the window at the dense, dark forests that surrounded Willowbrook, he couldn't help but wonder...
