2024.05.26 07:22 SnooPets1327 Anki(my personal account)

Every premed student is pushing Anki like it is their saving grace. I understand that some medical student turned influencer is talking about their anki schedule and that to be like them you got to copy them. BUT I FUCKING HATE THAT DOG SHIT. In my opinion, that app is the most useless POS waste of time. I learned close to nothing from it. I prefer to study by reading and using spaced repetition, but Anki is not it. I would rather use 4,000-page documents and read until my retinas burn than do another Anki card. Personally, when I realized MilesDown had a document filled with all of the content, I stopped using Anki. I can't speak for others, but seeing the same card for the fourth time in two days just leads me to remembering certain elements of each card and tricking myself into thinking I learned something. For example, if I see a short card with two words highlighted in green, I associate those cues with a certain term instead of learning the definition. No matter how hard I tried, the definition never stuck; it was always just the card. If you are the type of person to noy attribute those things with your memory, then good on you. But i cant. i hope you guys all get 528s and pass step one and two with flying colors. I know i am not an accurate representation of all the mcat studiers on tik tok or the rest on whatever platform, but i am giving my personal account. i think anki sucks. i really hope this offends no one this is just my opinion, which of course is subject to change.

Term: Alliteration

Definition: Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sound at the beginning of neighboring words.
Example: "Sally sells seashells by the seashore."

2024.05.26 05:20 qwas12357 BPD and hurdles to recovery

Vital Environmental Factors That Can Prevent Recovery From BPD:
If, as a result of childhood trauma, we have developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or borderline personality disorder (BPD) our post-traumatic environment can have an extremely strong impact upon our chances of recovery. I list some particularly important factors below :
LACK OF SUPPORT FROM FRIENDS, FAMILY AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY / SOCIETY
If we are not provided with such support, but, instead, are shunned and ignored, it is highly likely that our feelings of worthlessness, vulnerability and isolation will be intensified.
Support needs to be non-judgmental, empathic and validating both of our emotional pain and also of our interpretation of how our adverse experiences have affected us.
Also, those providing the support need to be 'emotionally literate' (i.e. able and willing to discuss feelings and emotions in a compassionate and understanding manner)
NOT BEING BELIEVED
Obviously, if people we talk to about our traumatic experiences don't believe what we are saying or believe we are exaggerating the seriousness of what happened to us (or the seriousness of the effect it has had upon us) our psychological condition is likely to be severely aggravated: our lack of self-esteem, sense of despair, sense of worthlessness, sense of unlovability, feelings of isolation and any feelings of anger, bitterness and resentment we may have are all likely to be severely intensified.
SECONDARY VICTIMIZATION
We need to avoid those who would cause us secondary victimization. Secondary victimization occurs when those who ought to be helping us instead harm us further. Indeed, the example of not being believed (see above) is one such form of secondary victimization.
Other examples of secondary victimization include :
On top of these problems, it can, too, be difficult to get professional support:
A recent study carried out by Proctor et al., 2020, has produced further evidence that BPD sufferers frequently find it highly problematic gaining access to effective treatment such as dialectical behaviour therapy, or DBT. (In relation to this problem, you may wish to read my previously published articles: How Malignant Alienation May Impoverish Care BPD Patients Receive.)
Whilst many professional used to believe BPD was typically unresponsive to treatment, this can no longer operate as a feasible excuse as there now exists an increasingly large and growing body of evidence that a substantial proportion of those who have been diagnosed with this extremely serious condition (which is closely linked to severe and protracted, interpersonal, childhood trauma) can be treated effectively, at least to the degree that they no longer fulfil the requisite criteria necessary for the diagnosis of BPD to continue to be applicable.
The authors of the study suggest that difficulty obtaining proper treatment is linked to the continued stigma attaching itself to a BPD diagnosis. However, as sufferers of the condition become increasingly knowledgeable about the illness and of the existence of evidence base therapies like DBT (see above), so too should their confidence assertively to request the opportunity to access such treatment. After all, about one in ten BPD sufferers eventually die by suicide, so the need for such individuals to be offered compassionate, non-judgmental, empathetic and non-discriminatory treatment can hardly be overstated. The treatment of extreme mental pain is just as much of an ethical imperative as is the treatment of extreme physical pain.
The Australian study surveyed 500 patients between 2011 and 2017 and found that those offered appropriate help often waited between a year and a year-and-a-half to receive it. The author of the study pointed out that this not only resulted in unnecessary suffering for the BPD sufferer but also placed extra strain on hospital emergency services (i.e. due to more BPD sufferers reaching crisis point, attempting suicide, self-medicating with dangerous levels of alcohol and/or narcotics, extreme self-harm such as self-cutting and self-burning etc.).
The researchers concluded by emphasizing the importance of health professionals applying NHMRC BPD guidelines in order to support front line services responsible for the welfare of BPD sufferers.

2024.05.26 05:11 Chickenwingechicken the concept of soulmates in relation to shifting

🍄˖ ཐིཋྀ ࣪ introduction ˖ ཐིཋྀ ࣪ 🍄

i was listening to a shifting related podcast where they talked about the idea of shifting and soulmates and if they still believe in soulmates now that they reality shift. and this conversation got me thinking. and over analyzing. and you all already know what happens when i do that, ha ha. so now, i am making this post and hopefully, it is not too long and rather brief instead while i discuss this topic.
i will be delving into a soulmate. what it is, its origins, ,your awareness, and how it all can relate to shifting. these aren't specifically tips but i think it may be comforting for some as a concept especially those interested in these kinds of stuff.

🌱✿ the concept of soulmates ✿🌱

the term soulmate was first recorded to be used in 1822 by the poet samuel taylor colridge. though, it could have been used earlier, this is the earliest we know of its term being used. the line reads;
'in order not to be miserable, you must have a soul-mate.'
however, though this is the earliest the word was used, the concept of a soulmate was long before this poem would be written. we would have to go back all the way to 3___ b.c. to ancient greece. one of the myths from there came to the origin of love. the tale of the origin of love come from plato's symposium. the playwright aristophanes. to briefly explain it, humans were all born joint in pairs as either two men, two women, or a man and a woman.
however, zues feared and had great disdain for the powers that these humans had as humans in two were much powerful than what we are considered to be now. because of this, he cut the pairs in half, separating them. now, humans search for their other missing half in hopes of reuniting with them one day.
many people believe in soulmates to this day. but, how would this relate to shifting? if there are infinite realities, how can there be soulmates? there are different versions of everyone so how can this be?

🍓 °𓏲⋆ many loves °𓏲⋆🍓

now, when i say 'many loves,' i don't mean in the polyamory or non monogamous sense of the word. though, yes, there are many realities in which you are polyamory just as there are many realities that you are monogamous.
you could have a soulmate that takes the form and awareness of someone else in another reality. for example, let's say in one reality, you are dating a guy named bob. bob is your love interest in your dr. but, bob does not exist only in your dr. he could exist here as well. in this reality. as another form of awareness.
we could apply this same idea to your partners and your comfort characters. even if you have a partner in one universe, that does not mean that said soul will not exist in every other universe.

🪴⋆⸜ awareness ⋆⸜🪴

from what we know, you can only be aware of one reality of a time. you have one awareness and that's yours. so, it would make sense that you only be aware of what you see and experience. especially when it comes to partners. i bring this topic up because i often see people discuss their partner in the dr in a way that makes it seem like they cannot achieve the same here or that their partner only exists in that dr. when in actuality, your partner exists just as infinitely as you.
your partner could be shifting to meet you in a reality right now! for those that have a partner or friend, whose to say that a version of your comfort character didn't shift to be here and experience things with you in either this or another reality!
with this idea, there could also be a version of your soulmate (partner in your dr for all intensive purposes for this idea) in every reality. this can also apply to friendships, family, and more. just as we shift to realities where we have different names, looks, ethnicity, genders, and more, so could said soulmate. said soulmate could shift to do the same thing as you and be wondering the same thing as you. essentially, longing for you just as you long them.

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 conclusion 𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊

while soulmates are a very talked about subject in terms of tropes, not many know the history about them. i hope i shed some light on what they are and its relation to shifting.
side note; i thought that this would be a good mini post to make while i grapple with creating two much larger posts that are purely shifting me testing out shifting tips and ideas. also said two posts require a lot more research than my usual projects.
stay safe and happy shifting! ꨄ

2024.05.26 03:50 AgitatedKing2335 The functioning basis of Sikhism (essay)

The functioning basis of Sikhism (essay)
Today we can define Sikhism as a religion that encompasses the practice of a set of morals/virtues/values that come exclusively from historical experiences or stories.
The more frequently a sort of nuanced phrase or word appears in the Granth (Guru, Parsad, Amrit, etc.), the more likely it will have an external story that surrounds it.
These stories, however, have nothing to do with the actual argument that accompanied the rest of the word/phrase in the Granth.
The point of using these words in these stories is to give the story validity.
So when a Sikh checks the Granth, he easily correlates the story and the Granth because of the appearance of the phrases and words.
This process of correlation without objective thinking leads him to believe more in the story which was already presented to him as the truth, and he is less likely to question it. Moreover, the story changes his ability to objectively view the Granth without bias.
These stories are derived in two places:
First, the Janamsakhi and its counterpart “Granths” from their various Nirmala authors.
Example: the association of the word Amrit with the story of the Panj Pyare.
This kills what Amrit truly is because it can no longer be read objectively.
Second, and the most unnoticed distorter, various speeches from preachers, prachaarik, granthis.
These speeches are extended stories.
Because of the high prevalence of ritual readings, container worship, and the overconsumption of “Sikh” tragedies:
For example, the baani of Kabir
"Ganga ki lehar meri tootsie janjeer" is connected to a fake story where Kabir was chained and thrown into Ganga, but miraculously his chains were broken by Goddess Ganga.
The actual poem means the opposite.
He's dismissing the worship of Ganga.
The chains were the Ganga holy river priest idea chains that his Satguru broke off of him.
The kathavachak Brahmin tells this story on stage to destroy the message Kabir is giving.
Go to any "Bhai Ji" with this baani in hand, and he will tell you this stupid saakhi.
These stories are the third party that stands between the Sikh and Granth, causing a disconnect with the true nature of its writings.
Because the Sikh bases his identity on these stories, he cannot push them out of the way to access the Granth objectively because he feels as if he is pushing away a part of himself in order to do so.
It takes a strong sense of individuality, that is truly of one’s self to do so.
Most people are weak and not capable of this act of strength.
Overall, the basis of the Sikh religion is values/virtues/morals that are solely derived from distorted stories, and therefore the Sikh, the believer in these himself is distorted.
And to note, if Sikhi, as it stands today, is based on stories, then its practitioners are susceptible to any good storyteller not matter their overall goals.
“Everything is in the home [of one’s own self], nothing outside [stories, storytellers, human gurus]
Outside searching is deluded by doubt”
(Granth 102)

2024.05.26 03:20 Surresteel [HELP] Newbie Trying to Understand Meter and Feet

Hey, all.
I want to put together a poem for a writing project but know very little about poetry itself. I've done some reading on the basics and I have a couple of questions.
  1. Generally speaking, when can feet be mixed within a line?
    • There seems to be a general rule of keeping feet the same in a line or across a poem. At the same time, I've read in enough places that there are a plethora of exceptions. E.G "Here is a poem that uses Dactyl trimeter; it's very common to end the lines in a Trochee". Okay... why?
    • I read somewhere about feminine endings, where you just tack on an unstressed syllable to the end of a line. Is there a reason for this, or just artistic liberties?
    • Can I just insert a spondee for emphasis wherever?
    • If I select an arbitrary series of feet for a line, then keep that consistent over multiple lines, will it work rhythmically?
  2. How strict should natural English word stress match the meter?
    • In normal speech, stress can be flexible, especially when in comes to monosyllabic words. You have sentences like "I was told that that was the case.", where 'that that' contains both an unstressed and stressed version of 'that', using /ə/ and /æ/ respectively. Is this difference considered in poetry meter?
    • Can you have a monosyllabic noun fall on an unstressed point?
    • Monosyllabic verbs are typically considered stressed, but are auxiliary verbs (like 'be' and' are') counted amount them? Speaking them aloud, it seems context dependent. Is emphasis the deciding factor?
  3. Does meter relate to time at all; if not, what does it relate to?
    • The actual inflection, pauses, and stress pattern of a line seems to change substantially depending on who's reading it, and each of those readouts might differ from the meter as written. So, is there ambiguity? A term like 'meter' would suggest that you're working with a rigid framework (like tempo and time signatures in music), but in my limited exposure to poetry, it seems anything but. Are you reading poetry wrong if your recital doesn't match the author's intended meter?
Just for the hell of it, going back to the line: "I was told that that was the case". Is it feasible to break it up like so:
/ I was / told that / that was / the case. / / Trochee / Trochee / Trochee / Iamb /
And would that be a valid example of Trochaic Tetrameter?
Would these other mixtures of feet be considered valid, as they conform to different English stress patterns: / Trochee / Trochee / Spondee / Iamb / / Trochee / Trochee / Trochee / Spondee / / Trochee / Trochee / Spondee / Spondee /
What kind of meter would those be?

2024.05.26 02:56 Guilty-Owl-436 Helpful strategies I used from 1200 -> 1470 in 3 months

I saw a lot of helpful study tips but I just want to share one that hasn’t been discussed as far as I know. I started off with 1200 (440/760) on one of the practice tests. Btw, I moved to US 5 years ago so English is not my first language. But after 3 months I got 1470 (680/790) on the May exam using this method—I call it “strength and weakness analysis,” where I categorize questions into several concepts. For example, writing questions other than Transitions and Rhetorical Analysis are either Boundaries or Form, Structure and Sense(not helpful at all!) so I further categorized like this using Khan Academy:
Reading portion is pretty straightforward but I added frequently tested topics as concepts like Science, Social Science, Government, History, Novel, Poem, Art, Biography, etc.
For each question type and concept, I came up with a “how to approach” strategy and kept applying them on practice exams. This saved me so much time during the exam because once I identified the question type/concept, I knew how to tackle the question without wasting time.
On top of this, I recorded and counted questions I got wrong so that I could find which question types I missed the most, think about why I missed such questions and come up with plans on how to improve. This became really helpful after I took more than 3 tests because I could see what I missed the most and what I need to do to improve on these.
I’m not a good writer so this post might sound all over the place so I’m happy to answer any questions in the comment. Besides the strategy, I think I need to read more books and articles to improve further. I’m open to suggestions too. Good luck everyone!

2024.05.26 02:49 Zestyclose_One_1561 This is meant to be effortless, stop overcomplicating

I had a moment today where I felt frustrated and wanted to react to an "unfavorable" circumstance in the 3D. When I got home, I had an urge to sit down and journal, and as I was writing, I started making a list of the things I've manifested, with and without conscious awareness of what I was doing. This may be a long post, but I promise it's worth it. As I was writing, I kept having the thought, "Post this on Reddit," and after ignoring the thought several times, I stopped journaling and decided to listen to it.
Looking back at my life before I had a single clue who Neville was or what manifestation meant, I see how I created every circumstance and ultimately got everything I desired, "good" and "bad." I've manifested under every circumstance: the "impossible," being told no/never going to happen, feeling sad, heartbroken, devastated, defeated, angry, desperate, needy, jealous, happy, excited, noticing lack, etc. Before reading about Neville and truly understanding and consciously applying his teachings, making this list helped me realize that I was already applying these things without knowing.
So, here's my list:
There's so much more, but I started writing this as a journal entry to remind myself of my power, and that this is NOT meant to be hard or difficult. Time does not matter. The law is always at work, and this is meant to be effortless. When I catch myself questioning, "where is he?" "why isn't he showing up how I want?" I remind myself of my other manifestations. To be honest, it doesn't matter what technique I use, you use, or anyone else uses (I will talk about techniques, though, I got you), it matters what works for you, what feels most natural for you.
Techniques that work for me:
I feeeeel like I'm starting to ramble and lose my focus now. I hope this helps someone that's feeling discouraged, feeling frustrated with their 3D, focusing too much on circumstances, questioning why/how/when, or feeling like they're not doing enough. When I look back at everything I've wanted that manifested for me when everything in the 3D showed me that it was nearly impossible, it was effortless. It's not meant to be hard. So give yourself a break, you don't need to do a million techniques, watch every youtube video, read every reddit post. It's yours. And on that note, I'm going to listen to my own advice and stop overcomplicating this for myself with SP. I know my power, and I know all that I need to do. The BOI was hard for me, but I know that I created everything that occurred. Sometimes it takes a bit for the old story to fully wash out, but trust that there is ALWAYS movement. You don't need 3D validation. You don't need proof. YOU are the proof. Do what feels right for you. I'm not stressed about the old story when it pops up, because I know that what I want, I already have. Log off and focus on what feels good. Would the version of you that already has your SP back be stressing about the 3D or wondering where he is? No. When you decide you want something, then decide it is yours, IT IS YOURS. It doesn't need to make sense, it doesn't need to be logical, and it does not matter what the current circumstances are.

2024.05.26 02:43 Thinkiatrist CMV: We are not able to perceive emotions that we haven't already experienced on our own.

What I think is, that if we haven't already experienced a certain emotion through our own natural experiences, no means that refers to that specific emotion will succeed in evoking it in ourself from scratch.
For example:
If you read a poem about the death of someone's beloved father, no matter how excellent the use of language that the poem might exhibit, it's impossible for you to completely understand that emotion, unless you have a very specific analogous first hand experience of the sort.
Ofcourse, some relatabilty is possible say, you already experienced the death of a friend, so you can evoke certain facets of that emotion and attempt to combine them with your imagination to concoct the new emotion in question.
But I still don't think its gonna be near something you haven't experienced first hand. But you're never going to have the same exact experience, so is there a threshold to cross before you can be confident that you relate to a certain emotion?
Edit: In any case, to get any degree of relatabilty at all, you need some sort of a similar experience I think.

2024.05.26 02:37 lisaatjeb02 Mythical Meeting Mysteries

I am a dm for a party that isn't a big fan of combat. So when working on travel encounters to break up the long stretches, I noticed that it all started to become a little repetitive or they were consistently finding loot (which, imo, takes away from the fun of finding loot). When thinking about how to fix this I had the great idea to use that time for some character building/party building.
This is where is created Mythical Meeting Mysteries. It is literally just Icebreakers but fantasy. It is a little booklet I made which has 6 different icebreaker explained in fantasy language with fantasy examples too.
I spend about 3/4 hours creating it and then another 2 trying to make it printable and I thought, why not share something I am incredibly proud of!
So here is it: Mythical Meeting Mysteries Written by Tyler Roads https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FNHNh5qzSAipj5xhp2pC4DWlTszipwjGSYrmcx9lPsw/edit?usp=drivesdk
If you want to print it and make it a full booklet, I also got you covered. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1saiul5DztxwvLP-_oOF_wHy6Bay7ZiAm7qS75xe-VGI/edit?usp=drivesdk You have to print this dubble sided and then fold each paper individually and slide them into eachother, if you add a staple in the middle it'll stay nice and secure!!

2024.05.26 02:09 leninzen This game needs to be more silly and obnoxious

Why haven't Embark leaned into the fun feel of this game, over the meta nonsense which plagues this sub?
We need more novelty weapons (which are actually good). We need more silliness.
Unfortunately, this game is becoming another stale FPS. For an example, Terminal Attack was pretty fun for a bit. Now it's not, because the meta is clear and that's it. Power Shift was fun, and now it's not, because the meta is clear.
I still enjoy ranked, mostly (if I have nice/good team mates), even if it is repetitive. And I'll keep playing because it's still better than other FPS games out there.
But my most memorable moments, aside from the dopamine of a last second cash out, have come from really stupid shit from the game physics or a silly weapon. Let's have more of it please!
Edit: even some silly/actually casual game modes too please. Like prop hunt etc.

2024.05.26 01:47 Soffy21 My thoughts on the WUWA character designs

In WUWA, I think certain character designs have a lot of potential, but they are held back due to spesific flaws; and certain others (mainly the designs of female characters) lack personality and characterization. I like to do art myself and analyse character designs in various media, so I wanted to share my honest thoughts with the sub and see whether you guys agree with me or disagree.
My first criticism is that many designs fail to give us hints about the characters. Good cjaracter designs tend to give us ideas about the character such as their occupation, social standing and personality through color schemes, outfit choices and visual symbolism. Of course, all of these don’t have to be spelled out to us, but these kinds of hints can help us distinguish a character from the rest, and act as visual storytelling.
I think that Scar’s design is good at this, as the dominant red and white colors correlate with his impulsive, exantric and aggressive personality, while also looking very easy to distinguish. The scars on his face give us certain clues about his character and what he could have been through to get them, and also make him more unique.
However, the designs of characters like Yangyang tell us nothing about their personality, profession, skills, backstory… It feels very generic and lacks character. This is combined with the colors they used for her feeling very bland. I really enjoy Scar and the General’s colors, but many of the other characters don’t stand out in that way.
I think that Genshin is very good at choosing visually engaging colors for their characters, which make them stand out and give us himts about what region they’re from, their proffession, and have many motifs and symbols integrated into these designs. WUWA could incorporate similar elements into their designs to make them more distinct.
Another problem I have with WUWA is that some of the characters’ outfits make no sense, where I don’t know how they could ever wear their clothes and take them off. Examples for this problem are Jiyan and Baizhi, where their outfits would be impossible to wear. This isn’t a huge problem, but I think it does damage the quality designs (at least for me). Meanwhile, certain other characters’ outfits feel very out of place, such as Yangyang wearing a dress, despite being an outrider.
And for some characters who do wear appropriate clothes like Mortefi, it feels bland, since the colors and the design in general are uninteresting. And this is amplified by 3 other characters having the same shade of red hair as him, making it feel less unique. As an example, red hair is the main identifier of Diluc from Genshin. While he’s not one of the best designs from the game, the red hair feels unique and distinguishes him from the rest, while highlighting the contrast between his cold personality and his fire element. It also creates a contrast between the blue color scheme of his brother, who’s the exact opposite of him. On top of this, it shows that he may be ethnically connected to the Murata tribe, who all have red hair. This way, the red hair serves many purposes on its own. However, if 3 other characters from the same region had the shame shade of hair as him, he’d feel a lot more bland. I also have the same problem with the female MC, Yangyang and Bailian having the same tone and similar styles of hair, since it makes them feel very repetitive (especially when all 3 are in certain scenes together).
My next critique is that certain designs feel too crowded, with many unnecessary details on them. This makes them feel tiring to look at, and you don’t know where to focus on the design. I beleive that if unnecessary details were removed and the number of colors used were reduced to increase the design’s coherence, characters like Lingyang would look a lot better. Similarly, the number of unncessary accessories on Yinlin could be reduced and the number of colors could be decreased to 3-4 to make her feel better. I think that Kafka from HSR is a good example, as she has only 3 dominant colors and a relatively simpler design, yet is very iconic and recognizable, compared to the WUWA characters.
Another issue I have is that the female characters feel very bland and look like generic anime girls in comparison to the male characters, whose designs seem to have a lot more thought put into it. Yinlin is an upgrade compared to the female characters we have right now, but she still doesn’t feel super unique or anything. And unrelated, but the jiggle physics feel so uncanny.
I think that’s all of my thoughts. For clearance, my intention was not to bash the game, but instead to share my genuine criticisms and see whether the community agreed or not. My references to Hoyo games was more intended to point out good examples of character designs, and not to directly compare the quality of the two games. I’m also curious if anyone has additional criticisms of the designs that I didn’t point out.

Something has been bothering me for the past couple of months of the fight against Sukuna. Though I find myself interested in the overall outcome of the fight – knowing how they will defeat him, who will survive – I simply find myself not caring for the fight itself. Indeed, I tend to lately mostly skip the chapters, paying attention only to dialogues and one or two cool scenes, but mostly not caring about anything else. For example, the Tojo and Yuji VS Sukuna chapter, I only paid attention to the first and last pages. That was it.
I’ve been trying to understand why that is since Jujutsu Kaisen fights are usually all very interesting to me, and I feel I finally reached a conclusion:
Sukuna is a boring ass villain.
Now, I don’t mean this as hated towards Sukuna: I mean it as the way he is written. Sukuna lacks fascinating aspects that villains like Kenjaku or Mahito had. He’s personality is basically “sadistic, arrogant blood knight”, with few to no nuances. His fighting style is not much better: aside from cutting things with Cleave and Dismantle (which, in a fight, function pretty much the same way), all he does anymore is hit Black Flash, Domain Expansion (Cleave and Dismantle in a wide area, basically) and Fuga (which was cool, but seems like it’ll be a one-time use thing).
That is exactly all he brings to the table.
Unlike many other characters, Sukuna is not strategic in his battles. He does not pull tricks like Gojo’s last Hollow Purple, combos like Yuji with the others, or use properties from his techniques like Kashimo did against Hakari. He basically… cuts things and hits things pretty hard. Which is ok for short fights, but when you consider there’s been around 30 chapters of nonstop fighting against him, it’s not much.
The idea of someone having a chance against him could make the fights more interesting, but Gege seems to write against that very idea constantly. The previous chapter, for example, ended with the narrator saying that his energy level is becoming like Yuta’s – after all the battles, all the Black Flashes, all of everything he’s been tanking. And it’s not like we have some sort of explanation for why he is so infinitely above everyone else’s level; he just is.
Sukuna is, at times, feeling like Gege decided to have a strong villain that feels strong in a cheated way. Not someone with talent, or a strategic mind, or powerful abilities that allow him to counter others, but someone who was simply born with innate statuses far above anyone else. Sukuna feels like taking a Dragon Ball Z villain and putting him in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, with literally the strongest characters from every era of the world together being far weaker than him. And the fact that he simply gets hit and recovers time and time again makes the whole fight seem like pointless repetition at times.
Does anyone else feel the same? It’s been a while now that I’ve kept feeling that a better way to take the story would be for Gojo and Sukuna to end up killing each other, and the final battle being the rest of Jujutsu Society – Yuji, Kashimo, Higuruma, Yuta, Maki and so on – against Kenjaku and the Merger. But right now, if the Merger happens, I feel like it will either be very anticlimactic or simply game over for everyone.

2024.05.26 00:52 Tiny-Performer8454 A Long Lesson for Those Struggling with CPDF

From a recent thread of mine, I had an interaction with a redditor that I thought I'd share — as most learners do struggle with CPDF (conditionnel passé deuxième forme).
His comment, abridged down to the essential :
Whereas 99% of modern francophones would say "Je veux que vous soyez...", "Je voudrais que vous soyez..." and "Je voulais que vous soyez..." these should really be "Je veux que vous soyez...", "Je voudrais que vous fussiez..." and "Je voulais que vous fussiez..." since neither "voudrais" nor "voulais" are in the present.
That being said, the imparfait du subjonctif and the plus-que-parfait du subjonctif are almost dead, as they are now relegated to the most formal and literary of contexts and most francophones think that they sound very strange and do not really know when they should be used.
The only modern common usages of these tenses which I know of are that people from Quebec will sometimes say "Qui l'eût cru?" (plus-que-parfait du subjonctif being used to form the tense known as "conditionel passé deuxième forme") instead of "Qui l'aurait cru?" to say "Who would have thought?" and that older Francophones from northeastern New Brunswick in Gloucester County near Shippagan and Lameque also sometimes used this very dated verb tense in everyday speech, using constructions like "Si j'eusse su..." instead of "Si j'aurais su...".
My response, unabridged (note that the ">>>" symbolizes a quote from the other redditor's comment :
First off, thank you for this level of analysis of my question. Your effort and insight are acknowledged and appreciated.
that older Francophones from northeastern New Brunswick in Gloucester County near Shippagan and Lameque also sometimes used this very dated verb tense in everyday speech, using constructions like "Si j'eusse su..." instead of "Si j'aurais su..."
However, I'd like to call your attention to what you said here. It is, and has been, a consensus that it is gramatically incorrect — not out-dated, just plain wrong — to have "si" followed by a conditional tense of any kind. One cannot say « Si j'aurais su que... » nor « Si j'eusse su que... » They're both wrong.
One can, however, say « Si je savais que... » (l'imparfait) or « Si j'ai su que... » (passé composé) or even « Si j'avais su que... » (plus-que-parfait). For example, « Si je savais qu'il avait un chien, je n'y eusse même pas assisté. »
Let's break that sentence down: « Si je savais [l'imparfait, but passé composé also works here] qu'il avait un chien, je n'y eusse [conditionelle passé deuxième forme] même pas assisté. »
This is a sentence we can translate to « If I knew he had a dog, I wouldn't even have attended. » With the "y" representing an aforementioned place so as to avoid repetition — note that this is only the case when the attached verb uses the preposition « à » ; as is the case with this verb, "assister à," meaning "to attend [a place, a party, a meeting, etc.]"
Secondly, the conditionelle passé deuxième forme is used here as « je n'y eusse même pas assisté » since the function of the conditionelle passé deuxième is a literary/formal (but more literary-leaning, I'd say) way of saying "would have/would not have [past tense verb]."
J'eusse mangé (conditionelle passé deuxième forme) cette pomme si je ne savais pas (l'imparfait)/si je n'ai pas su (passé composé)/si je n'avait pas su (plus-que-parfait) qu'elle était pourrie = I would have eaten that apple if I didn't know/if I hadn't known [the translation changes based on the tense you pick] it was rotten.
The only modern common usages of these tenses which I know of are that people from Quebec will sometimes say "Qui l'eût cru?"
Which brings me back to this. The usage of the conditionelle passé deuxième forme is definitely not unique to Quebec (nor any particular Francophone country but rather a grammatical structure which is standardized across all French-speaking regions) nor is it the only common usage. As I explained earlier, it can be used to say ("would have/would not have [past tense noun]").
I've tried writing up some examples:
  1. Il n'eût pas dormi si tranquillement s'il avait su qu'il y avait une araignée gigantesque juste à l'autre côté de son oreiller. = He would not have slept so peacefully if he had known that there was a gigantic spider just on the other side of his pillow.
  2. Ces marins eussent être tués et mangés par des cannibales s'ils mettaient les pieds sur cette île. = Those sailors would have been killed and eaten by cannibals if they stepped foot on at that island.
  3. Est-ce que vous eussiez aimé votre femme même si vous saviez qu'elle vous tromperez un jour ? = Would you have loved your wife even if you knew she would cheat on you one day?
I hope this was palatable — otherwise don't be afraid to take small bites, to take your time learning it piece by piece, no matter how long it takes, I promise you its worth it! keep going!💪
NB: n'hésitez pas à attirer mon attention sur tout ce que vous croyez que j'ai raté.

2024.05.26 00:25 WisteriApothecary I may lose my job if I can’t be “present” at work. I don’t understand why.

To be very clear, I am as present as I am absolutely able to be. Without intending to mean it as a crutch, it is 100% worth noting I have been diagnosed with ‘severe’ ADHD. My doctor asked how the hell I was even able to function and all I could was laugh, because fuck if I know. I just did my best.
I work in finance, pretty low level, and I’m told I was “going on the fritz” often, and needed to talk to a doctor, which came with that late diagnosis. I’m still being told my job is on watch if I can’t be “present” while in the workplace, and I’m so confused.
I take my source documents, organize them in a way that will help me do a speedrun through the transactions at the guidance of my manager. AKA. “Put all of vehicle 1 in pile 1. Vehicle 2 in pile 2. Invoices in pile 3. Income in pile 4. Now reconcile.” I stamp every document with a “posted” stamp when I’m done, unless marking said document would invalidate it, or cause problems in general. Things like formal bill of sales, for example. I organize other documents and drive data, and primarily work off web based servers that include bookkeeping and organization. I’m gradually adding more duties to my plate.
I feel like I do pretty well. I have a lot to learn, but I’m doing okay. I was offered the job in the middle of course 2 of 3 for a bookkeeping certification, and left school to do it (I had to move far away for the job, and there was no chance of doing school after relocating outside of the area.) I was hired on the spot after making a joke that “taxes don’t make me angry like I’ve seen people get in my life. They’re actually pretty boring. Value, input, value, input. I don’t get why it’s so daunting”.
I’m on medication now, and it helps somewhat with that whole “on the fritz” thing. I don’t burn out because of boring repetitions anymore. Admittedly, I burn out when the workplace gets a bit more hostile, or I’m told that my personality is painful. My… personality being, asking questions about the concepts behind my work, and follow up with personal comparison or tangential relation to understand that concept better.
I often have to be told it’s almost (or more often past) my time to go home. But there are days where I’m watching the clock to go home. Usually those days are because I am waiting on client info or what have you. I do try to find things to do, but I usually start something and am asked to stop for one reason or another. I don’t like to sit on my hands.
I don’t know HOW to be any more present than I am. I still don’t feel good enough, and good goddamn if that isn’t my constant peer review as well. Help.
ETA. In case it’s relevant, this is my first job in finance. I’m a baby in the field. I worked in kitchens for about 9 years before I took a break to raise kids. This is my reentry in the work force too, after 5 years.

2024.05.25 23:24 444ngele Suspecting Autism Spectrum - Seeking Advice Before Psychiatrist Appointment

Hello everyone,
I have a psychiatrist appointment on Monday and I suspect I might be on the autism spectrum. I wanted to share some of my symptoms and see if anyone here can relate or offer insights.
• Adaptation and Change Issues: I struggle to adapt to the world around me and unexpected changes. Last-minute plan changes can cause intense sadness and anger. For example, a simple plan change like my husband deciding to make lasagna instead of our usual routine can completely throw me off and cause emotional distress. • Anger and Violence: I experience infrequent but intense anger outbursts. Recently, I even scratched someone during an outburst. I sometimes break objects in frustration and had similar issues as a child, like biting others. • Mood Swings and Hypersensitivity: My mood changes drastically throughout the day. I’m extremely sensitive to loud noises and bright lights. Human voices raised in anger or loud conversations make me very uncomfortable, and some sounds, like motorcycles or street chatter, are unbearable. As a child, I would cover my ears at high-pitched sounds and refuse to move. • Obsession and Fixation: I develop strong obsessions with certain topics or objects but lose interest quickly and move on. These obsessions can linger in my mind for months even if they are simple tasks. • Professional Difficulties: I can’t stay in a job for more than two months because I get bored or find the situation unbearable. I can’t commit to anything long-term. • Obsessive Thoughts and Repetitive Behaviors: Certain thoughts obsess me to the point of needing to complete associated tasks. I struggle to understand things unless they are explained concretely, and some phrases or words can irritate me greatly. • School Behavior and Social Relations: In school, I had disruptive behaviors like fighting and tantrums, although I was academically ahead. I find it hard to understand others’ behaviors and view people more as subjects of study rather than fellow humans. • Sensory Hypersensitivity: My senses are highly developed, especially smell. I can become obsessed with certain objects, textures, or colors, which feels almost ecstatic. This might explain my strong interest in art. • Emotions and Personal Relationships: I’m extremely sensitive but can also be very emotionally hard. Sometimes I feel completely numb to tragedies but regret it later. I often feel unworthy of love and happiness and tend to sabotage myself. • Pain and Irritability: I experience hand pain and can be extremely irritable due to loud noises or bright lights. • Listening and Empathy: I often play the role of a therapist for others because I can understand and listen to everything. I’m very open and often cry with those who confide in me. • Excessive Planning: I feel the need to plan everything down to the smallest detail. This includes visualizing how my home should look and even how guests should remove their shoes. This intense planning excites me and makes my heart race. • Social Masking: I feel like I have to put on a mask when interacting with others. I always say I’m fine, even when I’m not, and it exhausts me. I deal with this by sleeping a lot and procrastinating. • Social Interaction Difficulties: I often look away or focus on other things during conversations, which is noticeable to others. Social interactions are very challenging for me, though people think I’m fine because I put up a facade. • Special Interests and Intellectual Development: As a child, I was obsessed with astronomy and could speak at age 2, read at age 3. I had unexpected interests like learning Mandarin at age 6 and becoming a surgeon or tennis player. • Imitative Behavior: As a child, I imitated others to fit in, like pretending to laugh at cartoons. I never had a comfort object but preferred books. I asked my teacher for a comfort object to fit in, but it wasn’t genuine. • Precociousness and Ambition: At 6, I said I wanted to be a polyglot, a word I somehow knew. • Intense Physical Reactions: I’ve vomited from smelling incense that didn’t smell right to me.
Does anyone have similar experiences or thoughts on whether these could be signs of autism? Is someone relating to me ? Any advice before my appointment would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much if someone actually read what I feel, I am so alone in this.

LOL we got a shoutout. Just putting it here for reference, since they'll possibly eat their words when the [👼🏻Biblically Accurate Twink🪽] gets released
To be fair, there are a lot of people in that thread defending us here, saying we're not delusional at all, which is kind of nice.
I personally think Sunday is more likely than not going to be playable given datamined assets, and given some of the stuff we find in-game.
For example, the supposed invitation from Elio, "The Death of the Crow" poem that we can find in Dreamflux Reef.
OH, and Sunday is included in the stickers with all the other playable characters, in the Dreamscape book thing. Plus, he has a chibi version in the Owlbert special programs, and so far only playable or planned playable (Screwllum has one as well) characters have Chibi versions.
I'm...surprised that there is a Cocolia Main sub. She unambiguously f*cking exploded to death...so, uh...
Meanwhile, our Biblically Accurate Twink is still alive, albeit captured by The Family.
Here's my take:
People who care about Sunday will more strongly notice the patterns and suggestions that he'll eventually be playable. We are more mindful about details about Sunday.
People who do not care about Sunday (e.g. people who only collect and want waifus on their team) will not notice or care about the signs pointing to his eventual playability. They will only notice general and shallow patterns.
What do you guys think? Are we simply delulus? Or will that person...eat their words?

2024.05.25 21:11 throwaway928334 I am going to fail A Level Maths.

It's basically impossible to recover this.
I've always been good at maths from young, and really enjoyed the logic behind it.
A Level maths has quite literally killed any love I had of the wretched subject, and I genuinely have a burning hatred for not only the subject, but anyone who thinks this stuff being in schools is acceptable.
The content is boring, repetitive, and pointless. The overwhelming majority of the content will never be used again by anyone even if they go into a STEM field.
I want to do Biochemistry, and yes there's maths involved, but there's no need for me to have to rush out a proof for the integral of a convoluted trig function. There's no need for like 80% of the maths for anyone who isn't going into a maths adjacent field or maths in general.
I don't even need the A Level. I wanted to go into medicine, another field where the vast majority of maths you learn will never be used, but I had a change of heart and switched to Biochemistry. By this point my exams were all locked in, so now I'm forced into doing maths regardless. I could've done psychology which is far easier and much more interesting.
So now I've spent like £400 just to sit an A Level that I know for a fact I'm going to fail. Great.
Worst part is, it's not even because I suck at the subject. I've had little to no issue working through the textbook questions (self taught, hooray) and consider myself proficient enough to understand and apply the entire course.
The problem is that the exam papers are NOTHING like the practice questions or the examples or basically anything I've ever seen in my textbooks. The formats of asking questions are unfamiliar, the actual things you have to solve have never been seen before. Like how am I supposed to answer it if my ability of application of said knowledge is tangential at best?
And with that, maths has just made my life worse. Biology and Chemistry were lovely, really enjoyed them. And the maths in those subjects? Completely fine! No trouble at all.
But nowadays I'm stressed like all the time. My anger issues have come back realllyyyy heavily, like to the point where I've gone back to mildly self harming just to stop from breaking things. I feel mentally exhausted pretty much constantly, and have no social life because I'm constantly sat at home trying to figure out how the to work out some of these questions.
That's not to mention them at AQA who write the textbooks where there's multiple errors. They do a piss poor job explaining even the most basic of concepts and now I'm being shown questions that I have no clue how to answer.
I genuinely have started to believe the people who work there are evil. A lot of the ways they set out the textbooks are extremely masturbatory, with them obfuscating everything and making you learn retroactively through answers constantly. The content they put in makes the whole subject feel bloated as f*ck, and with the way they set out these papers it makes me wonder if they get a kick out of the idea that the kids (not a kid myself, but the vast majority doing A Levels are kids) are suffering stress and anxiety and depression at the prospect of failing their exams.
Mental health in sixth formers is at an all time low, and brief moments such as the lowering of the grade boundaries and providing advanced information made students so much more comfortable sitting their exams.
You'd think with all that going for them, they'd put mental health first and try to improve their exams so that people don't feel completely out of their depth when stepping into the exam hall, but they haven't improved shit. They're more than comfortable raking in the money they get, setting up vile papers designed to mess with students, and then sitting back and wanking themselves off because they're sooo much better than all the people doing the exams who can't pass.
If I was elected PM tomorrow, I'd genuinely want the company dissolved and every worker made redundant. I despise them that much. They're ruining my future and by extension, my life.
After years of effort and forcing myself to understand this dead flat subject, it's finally going to end with me missing out on university. All the knowledge I have come to nothing.
Fck maths, fck AQA. Seriously if you had a hand in making this textbook I have to look at every day just know I fucking hate you. I hope your life is awful and I hope you never find happiness.
Same goes for anyone who works on the grade boundaries and designs the papers. You're all pathetic excuses for human beings.

2024.05.25 20:12 Common-Worth-6604 Why Does PL Ignore History?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. But history has shown repetitively that banning abortion does not stop people from getting abortions.
Romania, Chile, Germany, El Salvador are just a few examples in recent history.
And yet, the PL movement continues to push for a ban on abortion.
These are my questions to the people who subscribe to the PL belief that abortion should be banned:
If history has shown, time and time again, that banning abortions does not stop them, why do you continue to push for it?
If history has shown, time and time again, that banning abortions leads to more deaths of women, why do you continue to push for it?

2024.05.25 20:01 SexxxMelaneexxx Terza Rima

Unlocking the Beauty of Terza Rima**
Summary:
Terza rima is a poetic form originating from Italy, traditionally associated with Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy." It consists of tercets (three-line stanzas) linked by a rhyme scheme (ABA, BCB, CDC, and so on), with the final stanza often a rhymed couplet.
Examples:
  1. Classical: "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri.
  2. Modern: "Acquainted with the Night" by Robert Frost.
  3. Modern: "Ode to the West Wind" by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Tips for Creative Writing:
Questions for Exploration:
  1. How does the interlocking rhyme scheme contribute to the poem's overall structure?
  2. Can you identify any modern poems or songs that use terza rima?
Additional Resources:
Creative Writing Prompt:
Step 1: Choose a theme or emotion to explore.
Step 2: Craft the first tercet (ABA).
Step 3: Build on the narrative or emotion in the next tercet (BCB).
Step 4: Continue the pattern, leading to a concluding rhymed couplet.
Example: In the twilight's embrace, whispers linger (A), Reflecting shadows dance, a silent figure (B). Beneath the moon's glow, memories trigger (A).
Remember: Terza rima offers a structured canvas for poetic exploration and narrative development.
