Before posting

FAQ? Check out the common questions that are in the subreddits wiki. Maybe your problem is already covered there in detail.
Use online generators, there are a lot of online useful generators (for give commands, summon mob, advancements, etc) such as mcstaker, that can be found on the resources page in this subreddit.
Incorrect use for as or at, when using at or as make sure you used them correctly, if you have doubts try using both (/execute as @a at @s run).
Save changes: if you are making a datapack remember to save changes (normally CTRL+S in the file) and type /reload, or if editing world gen (or damage types), leave and rejoin the world or restart the server. Make sure that the datapack is enabled too.
Correct edition and version, if you are following a online tutorial or using a command generator make sure is for your edition (Java or Bedrock) and correct version (1.17, 1.20, etc)
File extension, when making a datapack, make sure the files have the correct file extension (there are .mcfunction or .json), keep in mind that you probably named a file “example.mcfunction.txt” because you didn’t have file extensions enabled on your computer.
Search on the internet, on this subreddit or in the minecraft wiki: Try going to the new tab and scrolling down a bit or using the reddit search function to see if there is already an answer to your question. Try searching on the internet and maybe you will find your answer. Keep in mind that a lot of information is already documented in the minecraft wiki.
.json file not working: check (and provide in the post) the output log that contains the error.
Plugins may override vanilla commands, use the namespace instead for example, instead of /give use /minecraft:give
Server.properties: make sure command blocks are enabled and keep in mind the max command chain for chain command blocks and functions.
Command blocks (as any other block) only run on forceloaded chunks, make sure yours is in one of these, you can make them with /forceload (java) or /tickingarea (bedrock).
ChatGPT does not know about complex commands, just simple ones like summon or give and it’s not up to date with item components, do not use it if you want to get correct information.

Asking for help

Titles: Put a summary of your question/problem in the title (don't put "I need help" or "help me plz"). Put, for example "how to give a named item" and provide more information on the post.
So when people search for questions about commands and if your title is self describing it will appear in the search results. Also, we know that you need help anyways, no need to put it in the title.
Flairs: It is very important if you're asking for help, to flair your post with the correct edition (OG Minecraft is Java Edition, everything else (Xbox, PE, PS4, Switch, Win10, etc) is Bedrock).
What are each flair used to:

• Help Java X: its for the X version of java edition
• Help Bedrock: its for the last version of bedrock
• Help (other): it's not for minecraft, for example questions about VScode
• Help (resolved): it is already answered
• Creation: show your command/datapack creation
• Tutorial X: show how to do something for X edition
• Info: Provide information about something.
• Discursion: discuss something like new changes in the new snapshot for example
• Request: ask for an existing datapack that you don't find.
• Utility: provide a link to a tool such as mcstaker.net

Version: Pay attention to the stated version/state the version you're in. You can do that with flairs, or you can also put it into the description of your post.
Upvote: Upvoting good answers is a way to automatically move them to the top, for others that might have the same problem. Don't downvote an answer just because their attempts didn't work for you (unless it's off topic or doesn't add anything to the conversation).
Code blocks: when typing a command (or an advancement) use code blocks (if you don’t know how to do that you can see an explanation in here: https://www.reddit.com/AutoHotkey/comments/10t8byj/groggyguide_how_to_format_code_on_reddit_using/) this way you can type @a without it converting into u/a (because of reddit formatting) and spaces in .json files won't be removed and with this way is ease to see and copy the command.

It works like this
When you start DCS, your PC has to connect to ED's master server to request permission to run the software you spent your hard earned coin on.
IF either you cannot connect to master server OR master server has yet again fallen on it ass ... then you cannot play the software you rented
It was pointed out at the time by myself and many others a system designed with a single point of failure .... was a stupidly bad idea and would cause legit customers issues ........ which is what happens For some reason master server seems to be falling over regularly ...... especially on patch days.

Setting up a Windows 11 PC for the first time, got a new mouse and have been using it while I set the PC up, plan on switching it to my old PC when done. The PC has been restarting seemingly at random, and checking the Event Viewer, it's tied to "Logitech LampArray Service" so I went in and disabled the service from running. However, as I have a G604 Lightspeed and a G512 Keyboard, I'll need G Hub installed. Running the installer off of the website causes the same type of restart, but before I could check the Event Viewer to find out what the problem was, Windows 11 began to refuse to launch, so I'm resetting the computer as I write this. Any ideas on what might be happening? Am I on the right track with the Logitech LampArray Service?
Edit: I've got the PC reset, all files deleted, but thankfully, the Event Viewer logs remain. When the PC crashed, there are about a doze events that are warnings, saying "LSA package is not signed as expected. This can cause unexpected behavior with Credential Guard."

I can’t afford a mechanic. My friend is one and helps me out from time to time but he has a lot going on. I do all my own work on my car.
I bought it at 200,000km and it had been regularly serviced. It’s got a filled out log book.
It’s on 243,822km now. I have,

• changed the oil and filter (it’s due again)
• bypassed broken heater core
• changed the front break pads and cleaned n greased the callipers.
• replaced the old cracking radiator and flushed coolant system (refilled auto transmission fluid)
• replaced the old shit alternator
• fixed a broken outer tie rod end (and got alignment)
• replaced an old broken distributor
• sway bar end was loose, tightened that

From advice here I’m gonna rotate the tires tomorrow. Got some uneven wear from unaligned wheels. I’m hoping that fixes up remnant veering after tie rod end replacement and alignment. It sat for 3 months with the bad distributor, my friend says maybe the spark plugs should be cleaned or replaced.
I also need to replace the valve cover gaskets because they’re leaking.
Getting a rumbling in fourth when I’m between 60km - 80km climbing hills etc that dies off when I release accelerator or speed up (so down-shift). Used to think it was misfiring. Maybe something with the CV joints? Combination of dirty spark plugs and air filter?

We just activated the Cloud kerberos trust and it's working well : we can access on premise shares from AADjoined devices logged with passwordless (and Windows event > User device registration : Cloud trust for on premise auth policy is enabled : Yes)
But for some reason, when we try to access a sharepoint 2016 site it prompts for credentials and displays error 401 if non is entered
Do you have any idea ?

Krein SE

I learned about Krein from Zero Period Productions, who showcases a nice array of mods that I would have overlooked otherwise. You should 100% watch his playthrough to get a feel for the mod if you want to see the mod in action.
TL;DR: Amazing looking designs and locations, good story and very two well-developed main characters, excellent voice acting and good music, compatible with huge modlists despite mod description. BUT: platforming is a chore and overused, requires a fix mod to work well, scripts do not always trigger correctly and potentially lead to missing a few dialogues and plot events. Also not too lore-friendly.

Visual Design - 10/10
Krein presents stunning dungeons with a lot of unique assets that make this truly feel like an epic journey. The animation for certain characters however is rather wooden, along with a few textures that are too low-resolution. Still, some of the locations in this mod are the best-looking ones I’ve seen in a Skyrim mod. There are two main worldspaces in the mod, with a lot of variety, all the way from frigid fjords to ashen desert, from mining tracks to what seems like fortresses in space (that is the first location you visit in the mod). Outside of the Silvermourne Valley worldspace, nothing feels like it was from vanilla Skyrim.
Story and Characters - 8.5/10
The story is straightforward, and the Greek Odyssey feels like the best analogue to the story with the sheer variety of locations you visit. A lot of care is put into developing a living world, with living characters with their own motives that make sense. The two main characters of the mod are very fleshed out - especially if you read their backstory in some of the mod-added books found during the main quest. They are the highlights of the story for me: they aren’t one-dimensional, neither fully evil nor good, and they develop through the story in a very nuanced way. I really enjoyed their banter throughout the story. The antagonist has a decent backstory as well. I think this is one of the most enjoyable and amazing experiences I had in a mod-added story. However, because of its ambitions, many plot threads are left unresolved and we don’t get closure for many characters. The story also begets even more questions. One thing is for sure though - I do not believe this is lore-friendly as it introduces factions that are not well integrated into TES lore. The mod takes around 15-20 hours to fully play through, including all the sidequests.
The mod does not have any jumpscares, though some locations can be unsettling. There is also depiction of torture in the mod, though much milder than that of Beyond Reach and Vigilant.
Technical - 6.5/10
Krein is surprisingly compatible with huge modlists, and I’ve tested this on a modlist with 2700+ plugins full of gameplay-altering mods. There are a few incompatibilities*, but none impede quest progress. Certain scripts may require a save game reload for them to work correctly - I’ve encountered two or three such cases throughout the entire mod. However, the way certain scripts are constructed make the experience feel unpolished and sometimes compromise the story’s flow. For example, some scripted conversations get cut off by a scripted event happening immediately after without a wait. It can occasionally be hard to follow the story because of a dialogue being too quiet, such as when characters monologue while being unreachably far away.
In my testing, I’ve found that the Krein SE Fix mod does fix many issues with the mod and allows the SE version of Krein to be used with DynDoLod - which, by the way is highly recommended for this mod since the pop-ins without DynDoLod can get nasty. It would be remiss of me to not point out that the original mod does not follow many of the best practices of modern Skyrim modding, being built primarily for LE, containing many wild edits, and so on. That being said, with the fix, the mod is very playable and compatible with huge modlists. That being said, the mod is very ambitious and most of the bosses have somewhat complicated mechanics and the fact all of them worked well for me means I can't begrudge the team too much on this front. It's just a bit weird how such a mod gets released for LE, does not ESL ESL-able plugins, etc.
Audio - 9.5/10
The voice acting is excellent, and the new music added is also very good. However, the audio quality of the music does not match that of music mods like Yggdrasil, and can often feel too quiet. The mixing of certain tracks also feels a bit muddy. Still, the soundtracks capture the mood of the story very well.
Encounter Design - 9.5/10
I’ve played through most of the mod on Master with a bunch of difficulty-enhancing mods. The bosses are not always well-balanced, in that one boss may be too easy while the next becomes a challenge that requires a handful of retries. I like that the mod auto-saves right before a boss. The mod has some of the most well-designed bosses among Skyrim mods, however, with actual phases and unique mechanics. Not a single boss felt like something I’ve tackled a million times in vanilla Skyrim. I think it’s comparable to, if not superior to, the boss encounters in Vigilant. There are a few bosses where you should drop your difficulty, not because they might kill you too easily, but because it can make for very tedious HP-spongey combat otherwise.
Dungeon and Quest Design - 8/10
Dungeons in Krein consist of a lot of puzzles. I don’t think any of them were particularly hard but they were certainly a step up from vanilla Skyrim puzzles and slightly harder than puzzles in mods like The Grey Cowl of Nocturnal. I personally enjoyed them. Almost all puzzles in the mod are communicated very clearly to the player, outside of one or two that required meta reasoning. However, I did not enjoy jump puzzles, or platforming in the mod. This is single-handedly the worst aspect of this mod, and the tedium induced by the platforming in the mod is worse than the infamous Lava Room (Rkund’s Magma Silo) in Legacy of the Dragonborn. It doesn’t help that these appear again and again throughout the entire mod. I recommend using tcl to skip most of them. I do appreciate that these jump puzzles are extremely well designed, but Skyrim is not Celeste and the engine is not designed with platforming in mind. Worse still, mods that overhaul jumping, particularly those that add higher gravity, makes certain platforming segments outright impossible. If you want to give the platforming a shot though, make sure to disable any mod that changes the jump animation and momentum mods, and set your SkyClimb keybind to something different from your jump key.
The quest design is a standout, and Cinderholm was particularly intricate and fun to play through. However, the mod often uses silent stages and objectives are very scarce to come by. While I enjoyed that the mod pushes you to figure out how to progress, I can see how it is frustrating for others. I thought that Cinderholm struck a nice balance in that it communicates what the player needs to do very clearly but does not reveal the branching paths and exact solution to the stages of the quest. Speaking of branching paths, the overall mod also has a lot of branching paths, with multiple endings. Because of the opacity of the mod, it can be hard to figure out how exactly you could trigger different routes of the mod, but in a way that makes it a bit more organic. I will just hint that there is an invisible favor system in the mod (which I surmised from the scripts) and key plot moments could change based on decisions you made elsewhere in the mod.
Another particular issue with the quest design is that the point of no return can be rather unclear and many side quests have a small window for you to actually start and complete during the main quest. One particular side quest had such a short window that you must complete it right between two stages of the main quest. I can see why Digital Serpent went with this approach - most of the side quests involve major characters or hint at major plot events. They flesh out the characters tremendously without making it feel like you are forced to do all of them if you just want to speed through the main quest.
You can always return to Skyrim from Silvermourne Valley, but be warned, the point of no return starts at a huge Nordic ruin (not the one that you visit for a sidequest with a Nord sitting outside). Players with needs mods should prepare at least 2 weeks of food, water, and especially cleaning resources, and complete any lingering sidequests in Silvermourne Valley. You can think of that as a start of a long expedition and prepare accordingly. I think this could be improved by adding a shortcut back to and from Silvermourne Valley near the end of the fifth main quest (MQ04X), and let the ship going back to Skyrim be a two-way trip. I personally enjoyed this feel of the mod but it can become tiring very quickly for some players. A small, friendly settlement in the second major worldspace might be a good solution to this as well.
Overall: 9/10
This is one of the best mods I’ve played in Skyrim, and I feel that it is criminally underrated, which is why I’m writing this review at all. I hope that it can succeed, especially once the mod author tackle some of the major issues with the mod. Krein feels like a brand new experience with Skyrim and genuinely felt like a different game to me. For that reason I wholeheartedly recommend it to most players. Just keep your console on and tcl if you don’t want to deal with platforming.
*The biggest offenders are Audio Overhaul Skyrim, which breaks an optional puzzle, and Simple Offence Suppression, which causes a specific enemy to not turn hostile for a sidequest.

I got a new pc for myself and decided to give the old one to my parents. I did a system reset and now it boots up and ask for my log in and then says user profile service failed the sign in. I tried to boot in safe mode and got to a solid white screen but it just stopped at that point. It's on windows 10 and I no longer have the box full of the info for that pc. Any ideas for help.

So I know that a bunch of other users already created posts related to this issue 2-3 years ago. I've already tried several fixes like allocating more resources to the VM, changing the graphics settings, switched from DirectX to OpenGL and allat. I've also tried fully uninstalling BlueStacks using the uninstall tool provided in the support website but nothing seems to work. I also noticed that BlueStacks launcher is constantly crashing too. The only apps working in the VM are the Media Manager, App Center, and Settings.
I'm running 64-bit Android Pie. The app I'm trying to run is CODM and so far I've managed to give it storage access but since Play Store is crashing, I can't log in to my Google account. Even Chrome is crashing too. I also can't install apps from BlueStacks X app because the installation fails with code 2001. So I had to download the apk and install it to BlueStacks through Media Manager.
My PC supports the minimum requirements, I have 4 gigs of RAM, a 1.7GHz proc, integrated HD Graphics, and Virtualization enabled. If you think the proc is the issue, no it isn't, because I used to play NFS No Limits on BlueStacks 5 Beta a few years ago without any issues apart from a slight FPS drop.
I've allocated: 1) Processor: both cores (it's a dual-core proc) 2) RAM: 3000MB 3) Graphics: integrated Intel HD Graphics for 4th Gen processors

Just got back from 3 day solo turkey hunt in SW Oregon. While I was out someone tried to pry my car door open, then threw a rock through the window. Stole tools, clothes, ice chest, and other items by cutting through a cable lock. Pried the gas tank door open and took the gas cap, but gas level thankfully seemed to be the same or would’ve had trouble getting back to town. Seemed to drive okay.
Im fairly new to Oregon and having access to so many remote areas. I came here to explore, but this is my second break-in in 1.5 yrs and I’m getting discouraged. I’m reading around hiking subreddits and everyone seems to say you shouldn’t keep anything valuable in your car. Some say leave the doors unlocked and leave nothing so they won’t bust windows. But I feel like extra tools, clothes, food, etc are necessary to carry when you’re going into remote areas, so leaving nothing in my car seems like a stretch.
How do you as hunters handle this? I’m pondering hiding all the ‘extras’ in a stash/covered cooler somewhere in the woods nearby. Some say trail cam but that seems hit or miss on getting good evidence. Maybe just up my auto/renters insurance and count it as part of the game?
Has anyone had similar experiences? Any good tips, words of wisdom, or suggestions? In particular how to handle what seem like necessary extras to have in a car?
For context, car was parked on gravel pull out right off a paved road going along BLM. Items were locked with chain and cable and covered with a blanket in the back of an SUV. Closest town was ~20 miles away. Nothing but homesteads and countryside in that distance.

So I have been in the job market recently and connected with a "recruiter" that shared this notion document in a networking chat.
After going back and forth with the recruiter they sent me this message:

First mistake, I did not do enough research to realize that this person/company is impresonating another organization. Based on what they shared they seemed legit...
Second mistake, even though I did not share my wallet id, after I went to the webite I entered the info they gave me and that triggered a download. I continued the download without taking a second to process what is happening. (I'm on a MacBook btw)
After that, I launched the up and I noticed the termianl opened and closed instantly, I'm guessing it ran some command. The app tried launching but ended up crashing. I quickly realized that is happening (I know kind of late...) and removed the program. The following day I factory reset my Mac and reset all of my passwords. ( I should have done this the night of). I also contacted the real company OKX Group and they said they are going to look into it. They gave me this tool to use to verify all of the emails/links and none of them were offical.
So yeah... Not sure if I actually got scammed, and if me downloading that thing did anything but I am super paranoid right now lol. Not sure what else to do so any advice is appreciated it <3

The core section of the below story was part of a comment I left on another transgender-related sub in which one poster was genuinely confused about why they might be trans since they really didn't mind being their assigned gender at birth, yet they were still constantly bothered by several of the various "signs" many of us cite experiencing.
Since I got several messages from users stating that my (admittedly overlong) response resonated and was helpful for them, I figured I'd move it from being just a comment to my first actual "post", in the hopes that it may help others understand what it can be like...whether they might be trans-questioning themselves, have a friend or loved one that they just discovered is transgender, or even just be genuinely trans-curious.
Please note that while every trans person is different and has their own individual experience with gender dysphoria (including some that don't have any at all, apparently!), there are a number of commonalities that often seem to appear in our stories...especially for those of us, like me, who lived with it for a very long time before finally acknowledging and coming to terms with something that we've struggled to identify, then deny, eventually admit, hopefully accept, and then (finally) potentially act on. Sometimes this struggle goes on for years, decades, or even half a century. (Yeah, I'm old. So buckle up, kids...Grandma Autumn has a story for you...)
I was assigned male at birth (AMAB), and I've been living "contentedly" as a male for over 50 years. My childhood was mostly uneventful, with a large blended family of mostly regular folks. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go to a good college, and even more fortunate to meet the woman of my dreams there. 10 years after I first flirted with her, and a little over 3 years after I convinced her to move our relationship from best friends to something more intimate...I proposed to her in the middle of the night during a once-in-a-lifetime meteor storm. I was lucky enough to have found and actually married my soulmate: a beautiful, brilliant, absolutely amazing woman. With my wife's blessing, I left a pretty decent job and started my own company, eventually finding financial success in a career that I still enjoy to this day. So here I am...married to the woman of my dreams, living in our own home, with a great job, financial stability, and some terrific friends we’ve known for nearly 30 years. "Living the dream", right?
Unfortunately, no. Not my dream. Not really.
Don't get me wrong. All of that was great. But for some reason, it was never enough. Sure, I had moments -- hell, even years, if I'm being honest -- of feeling content, satisfied, even "happy" at times. But I was just as likely to feel dissatisfied, or frustrated...or surprisingly sad. Like there was always this dark cloud hanging over me, keeping me from ever truly enjoying...anything. Not fully, anyway.
And deep down, forever lurking in the back of my mind, constantly fading in and out of my conscious thoughts...part of me always knew why I wasn't truly happy. But I simply didn't like that answer, so I always got mad when it would bubble up yet again, ultimately yelling "NO!" at those ridiculous thoughts and shoving them back down into the dark oblivion of my subconscious, hoping they would finally just fucking stay there this time.
See, when I was 7 or 8 years old, I somehow realized that I should have been a girl. I mean, I knew the difference, and that I wasn't. In fact, everyone kept patiently reminding me that I wasn't...I was a boy, see, so I wasn't supposed to wear those things or want to play with those toys or act that way. So I would stop. But the thoughts wouldn't. By the time I was 10, I was starting to get fairly panicked by the whole thing, because I knew puberty was right around the corner. Since I was still religious at the time, I distinctly remember crying myself to sleep night after night, plaintively praying for God to please hurry up and fix this so I could finally wake up as a girl and be happy! [Spoiler alert: I never did.]
As a result, as I entered my teen years I concluded that the whole "god thing" was bullshit, so I stopped praying for something that would never happen and started resigning myself to my inevitable fate. I was now bitter, and more than just a little angry at the universe. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was also kind of an asshole as a result. I was being difficult at home as well as causing trouble in grade school, so I got switched from a larger public school to a smaller private one...the thought being that the smaller class sizes would allow more "hands on" direction and counseling from the teachers. Yeah, that did not work. Since I was supposedly a pretty smart kid, everyone figured I was just bored. So my parents stretched their budget and got me into the best high school in town, hoping the challenge would keep me busy and possibly help get me ready for college. That best high school in town also just happened to be an all boys catholic school.
Fucking perfect. It was like the Purgatory I no longer believed in. By my sophomore year in high school, the only way I managed to cope was by dissociating so severely that the boy who sat immediately behind me alphabetically started calling me "Zombie Man", and cruelly mimicking my silent, emotionally-dead shuffling from one class to another, one day to another...week after week.
I could go on about how I learned to hide my sadness to avoid getting picked on, or how I would just pour myself completely into any stupid activity to avoid having any spare time for thoughts about what was actually making me miserable. (Feelings? No, thanks…I’ve got shit to do!) Or how keeping really big secrets became second nature to me. But this story is already too long, so I’ll try to start wrapping things up.
Some days I've been "fine" with my assigned gender, as it does come with some perks. And I'm really only attracted to women, so my male genitalia – while definitely not what I would have chosen for key body parts – at least comes in quite handy in that regard.
And yet every single day of my life, if I had ever been presented with one of those proverbial magic buttons with the power to instantly switch me to being female, I would've started mashing that button as frantically as a 14-y/o Swiftie hitting refresh on her browser window at 11:59pm because Taylor Swift concert tickets go on sale at midnight.
And it Never. Goes. Away.
On the best days, the dysphoria sinks into the background and can be temporarily lost in the noise of life's immediate challenges or in the wake of whatever small joys having everything else in your life going really well can provide. Some of us become quite adept at being “high-masking”, which is psychologist-speak for learning to hide our symptoms and behave in ways that are not natural for us in order to simply fit in. We learn to box up those unwanted “feelings” and play our assigned role as if everything is normal and fine. (And then we find ourselves wondering why family gatherings and get-togethers with friends are often more exhausting than enjoyable.)
On the worst days, it overwhelms you with sadness because deep down, you know you are technically living a lie, as if "all the world's a stage", and you feel as if your male persona is the role of Romeo that you've mistakenly been cast in...and while you're giving a very credible performance, when you auditioned you were desperately hoping to land the role of Juliet.
So every day you walk through your scenes, dutifully reciting your lines and hitting your marks. And between scenes the rest of the cast pats you on the back offstage and makes sure you know that you're really doing great and this is a terrific performance.
But that's what it is. A performance. And the relentless despondency comes from knowing that you're a coward and a fraud...and that every day that ends with the curtain coming down with you still in the role of Romeo means one less day from your finite number of days in which you could truly live if only you could be Juliet. And while it would be really fucking hard to switch roles...and not just for yourself but for your family, your friends, your colleagues...you also know that if you could do it, you would absolutely shatter that oppressive glass ceiling that currently limits your capacity for feeling true joy.
Your life would go from the drab black and white of your incorrectly assigned gender at birth to a beautiful world of color in which everything tastes sweeter, and where your bliss is no longer bottled up or capped but rather allowed its full expression…and where, suddenly, the little daily joys of life are nearly limitless.
But instead, as every day and every performance as Romeo ticks tragically by without throwing off the shackles of Fate's cruel trick in casting you as the wrong gender, you are left to wonder what kind of life you could have had, if only...
And you catch yourself gazing longingly at all the people who are somehow genuinely happy as their assigned gender. “What would that be like?” we ponder in silent, sullen envy. To actually like the person staring back at us in the mirror every day? To not feel like an impostor? Or a freak? To be able to just blend in, be seen by others as we see ourselves, and simply fucking live how we have always wished we could?
But then your defense mechanisms kick in and remind you that you're no longer young anymore, so "it's too late" now, or your transition wouldn't go as well as it would have if you had just done it sooner. Or the relentless dread of knowing you can never really be a woman, or good enough to be truly accepted as one, or maybe even ever just seen as one. Or maybe it’s just that you have too much invested as your assigned gender now with your career, or with your coworkers and friends. Or how it would be incredibly unfair to your wife after all these years, or how it would utterly destroy your family. Or that persistent whisper in the back of your mind that "if you were really trans, you would have resolved this years ago!" Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Or maybe all it takes to keep some of us from accepting this truth…is just the shame and self-loathing of feeling this way at all. It’s surprisingly powerful, shame.
But, mostly, it's just fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of losing the ones we love so dearly. Of always being viewed as that "other". Of blowing everything up...and it still not being enough.
So maybe now you have a sense of what it’s like. If this isn’t you? Count your blessings. If this is someone you love? Try to imagine what having to live like that every day is like…and then support them however you can.
Cis people might think about being the other gender a couple times for a few minutes of idle speculation, and then they laugh and get back to their lives.
Trans people think about being the other gender almost every single day, whenever triggered by seeing someone wearing an outfit they're not "allowed" to wear, or expressing themselves honestly -- without filters or automatic self-censorship -- in a manner that "simply isn't done" as the other gender...or when they see someone else who can look in the mirror and unabashedly delight in the person they see looking back at them.
We get triggered every time we see someone truly enjoying their gender, because those people are living our unfulfilled dream. Every single day.
