2024.05.19 05:01 Ok-Preparation6344 Does my Unemployed bf take me for granted?

My bf has been unemployed for 9 months now and has been looking for jobs but to no avail. I have been supportive throughout and trying to be patient with him as he is going through it financially.
However, I cannot help but question if what he is saying he would do, he would actually do it. So we’ve been dating for 2 almost 3 years in a long distance relationship and within the timeline, I have requested for him to buy me some things (gift giving is my love language). Yet he always comes up with excuses that he has credit card bills or he needs to pay for that blah blah.
We book flights to see each other occasionally maybe 2/3 times a year. And he uses that as an excuse as well that he needs to pay for his flight so he can’t buy me anything and I should be patient and wait for the future.
This was all before he lost job last year. Now that he is unemployed, I understand that he cannot do these things anymore and I have been trying to be patient but still I am tired of the excuses. Based off his past reasonsings (credit card debts etc) I can’t help but feel like even if he gets employed and get to a stage where he feels he can afford things comfortably, he might not do the stuff I want him to.
Am I being unreasonable to think he is just stringing me along? Should I just leave and not waste time on potential?
I have discussed this issue with him and he reassures me that is not the case but actions speak louder than words.
What do I do?

2024.05.19 05:00 Monthemod AVOID GETTING SCAMMED

When working with a writer, many will ask that you pay them up front for the work. This is typical and should be expected. However! We recommend not using Cash App, Venmo, Western Union, or BTC due to payments being impossible to reverse specifically through these platforms. Only use the above if you fully trust the writer you work with!
We highly recommend using PayPal to pay for your project! When sending a payment through PayPal for "Goods And Services" your payment is protected by PayPal in the case that you get scammed or receive work that doesn't match what you ordered! All that you need to do is file a dispute under that payment and provide evidence to their dispute team!
Some have mentioned that Venmo is backed by PayPal. While this may be true, their platform doesn't allow senders to protect their payments.
For those who may not feel comfortable paying in full, contact your writer and request if you can pay as you go! For example: If you have a $60 four page assignment, pay the freelancer 25% ($15) upfront for the first page. Once they turn the first page in, pay another $15 upfront for the second page. And so on and so forth until the project is complete!
Never reveal your name, birth day, social security, home address, phone number, or any piece of info that can expose you!

2024.05.19 04:53 PooPooPutter So I had my dad take everything

Let me start this off by saying I am incredibly lucky. My parents have supported me through thick and thin (currently live with them atm) especially since we all went through the loss of my sister together. Since that Ive had a major drinking problem. A few days ago I came clean to my dad that I think I was at the point of me having a problem. He was very understanding and we agreed he’d take my keys and try to monitor me and make me quit. While, within a day I had a few drinks to try to ease off (he knew and expected it would happen) so we talked and I told him that I took the spare key and used a credit card and went to get some when he was gone. After a while of talking we decided hes gonna take my wallet, phone, and keys for a while as we get through it. So as I get through these next few days I was wondering if anyone had any good strategies to get through the first days, or anything I should have him do to help me through the first few days. Im trying to tackle this early and would very much appreciate any advice from anyone whos been through it

2024.05.19 04:50 Particular-Bid8069 Capital One product change

I have had capital one platinum secured card since 2020. Eventually I was able to get it to a platinum unsecured card and recently they increased my credit limit. This card has no cash back or points rewards. I would like to do a product change but they are saying there are not any offers right now. I don’t want to close the card because it is my oldest card. Any advice?

2024.05.19 04:46 mimikiners Alaska credit card

In September 2023 MBNA Mastercard (Canada) cut its ties with Alaska Airlines. No more automatic Alaska milage points earned or companion fare. We were told if we kept using the card we would be able to convert points earned to Alaska miles. Anyone have any idea when we will be able to do this? My understanding is this offer is good only for the first year after the restructuring.

2024.05.19 04:45 Lady_Louise97 is a debt of 45k horrible for a 26yo?

I really messed up that last couple of years in terms of spending beyond my limits. I'm discouraged by the idea that I'll never get down to a tolerable amount of debt BUT lately I've been working hard to get ahead on my bills so that I can start doubling up on my payments.
I have about 2.4k worth of bills every month. And the amount of bills are bare minimum: Rent, utilities, car insurance, phone plan, Internet, and the rest is debt payments. I don't pay for any cable or tv subscriptions and I don't have health insurance or a 401k
My income, at most, is 3k a month. I'm self-employed, so it varies.
What remains of my debt: •Student loans ~10k (6% interest) •Credit card ~4.5k (28% interest) •Taxes owed to IRS ~2k (I have no idea what the interest rate is, to be honest) •Car loan ~23k (8% interest) •Bank loan ~6.3k (20% interest)
Feels like I'm drowning.
My credit score is fair (700) and according to Credit Karma, I pay off 6k of my debt every year. So at that rate I'm assuming it'll take me 8 years. If I double up, then 4 years. But I don't see how I could double up on them when I barely have the money for groceries and maintenance on my car. Anyone else in my shoes? This sucks!

2024.05.19 04:44 dontwannasplit AITA because I don't want to split the electricity bill 50/50 with my boyfriend?

My boyfriend and I have been living together for 2 years. We rent a two bedroom apartment. We both travel a lot for work and there are some weeks where its just me and some weeks where its just him. When it comes to money, I am definitely more cautious. I budget my money and am careful with my purchases because I am trying to build up my savings to buy a house. My boyfriend is more relaxed with his money and doesn't think about budget or how much credit card debt he is in.
In the beginning of us living together, we were splitting the bills equally. But as months went by, I noticed a big fluctuation between months where I was home more and when he was home more. The bill was about $100-$150 higher when he was at home more. He typically will leave things on like the tv, lights, computer, etc. All day and night. When we are both home, I'm usually turning things off when he's not using them. So without me to turn them off, the bill racked up.
He also leaves the windows open while the AC or Heat is on. He says its because he likes the fresh air but doesnt want the apartment to get too hot/cold. I've told him many times that it racks up the electricity bill and could potentially break the system, leaving us with no AC or heat and probably having to pay to fix it. He then offered to pay the whole bill himself to end me nagging him about it.
Thats been our arrangement for the last year. Last December, I got a new job and am now working from home. He still leaves everything on and runs the AC with the windows open. A couple of weeks ago, he said he wanted to talk about the bills. He said that its not fair he still has to pay the whole electricty bill when I am home all the time.
I explained that we had data that proved that even when its just me, I still use half as much as him. I told him I would be happy to pay 70/30 but wouldn't do 50/50 because its not fair to me that he wants to be wasteful. He said I was being petty and that couples should split things 50/50. Am I being petty?

2024.05.19 04:34 translatableparade medical expense tracking win!

disclaimecw: this has to do with US health insurance and all that entails
I have a high-deductible plan, which means it covers 0% of my medical costs up to my deductible, then 90% of the remainder up to my out-of-pocket max, which all resets yearly. Some doctors and clinics will bill insurance first, then bill you for whatever isn’t covered, but many will charge you upfront for what they estimate it will be, and then (supposedly) refund you if it turns out they overcharged you.
Well, i have some conditions that basically mean I’ve hit my out-of-pocket max for the last few years and expect to continue to do so for the foreseeable future, so each year i save up the full amount for the next year by December and start January with a fully prefunded category (yes, this did involve some finagling when I first set it up). So this year, I hit May and find I’m now underfunded on my medical deductible category— obviously something somewhere is wrong.
Turned out, I hit my deductible in late January (reminder, this means we’re now in the 90% covered zone instead of the 0% covered zone). However, there were several appointments that charged me 100% upfront but then were covered at 90% by the time insurance processed them a month later, to the tune of around $400 😱. I’m sure you’ll all be shocked to hear that i had not yet been refunded any of that overpayment a few months later.
BUT! Because i had all of the transactions in YNAB and categorized, i was able to identify the precise dates of the appointments, know exactly what i had paid, grab the corresponding insurance documentation, and request and receive refunds of all of it (from two different practices) in less than a week! By far the most straightforward experience with health insurance shenanigans I’ve ever had (once had a single billing / insurance issue that literally took 4+months).
Anyway, if this had happened pre-YNAB I likely would not have even noticed, and if i had it’s even odds that I’d have managed to sort through insurance documentation, calendar events, and credit card statements enough to track down exactly what happened when.
🏆!

2024.05.19 04:30 justsittinhere__ Tip situation between coworker

Just to give some background, i work at a family-owned small business cafe. Each shift i work is usally me(only barista), the cook, & the owner. They thing is that the cook & the owner are best friends/family (so i want yall to imagine the emotional connection between them while being in a work environment.) Now during my shift, i have to split 50% of my credit card tips with my coworker(who is the cook & best friend.)
Now if my coworker is having an off/bad day or family emergency, she gets to leave whenever she wants. Either leave for the whole day or a few hours. But all the tips i earn during the hour she was gone, i STILL have to split when her shift ends, or my shift ends. Same with when the owners tells her to go to the store to stock up on supplies, i still have to split my tip during the time she was gone. I just dont know if im dealing with an unfair tip situation bcuz the cook is the owners friend. Or if im just overthinking this & this is a norm for tip splits in cafes

2024.05.19 04:27 ChangeQuick Joint Cash Accounts - Cannot spend?

Excited about all the talk of joint accounts, I decided to create one for me and my partner and…
There are no cards, virtual or physical. So “joint cash” accounts you cannot actually spend any money from. It is only savings.
This is unlike any other joint chequing or prepaid credit account I have seen (banks, Koho, etc.). This isn’t even the same as the personal WS Cash accounts. Am I missing something?

2024.05.19 04:20 1d0wn5up How does return policy work on major appliances with both Home Depot & Lowe’s? Who’s better to buy from

How does return policy work on major appliances with both Home Depot & Lowe’s? Who’s better to buy from
I’ve read there websites and getting lots of mixed answers. I understand for the most part you have 48hrs to make a return. What I don’t understand is can that return only be made if there is a defect , damage etc or can you also make a return within those 48hrs with an appliance that has never been opened or used?
I’m planning on spending upwards of $10k on many items and don’t think I’ll have any issues or need to swap things out but it’s still nice to know you have that option for peace of mind if I wanted to swap something out or make a return for any reason.
I’ve heard Lowe’s is better than Home Depot where basically HD has no return policy except for damage within 48hrs. On Lowe’s website it doesn’t say that it HAS to be damaged. I also read that it says you have 30 days on UNOPENED appliances but have got all different answers if that’s true…
If you order the item online for home delivery / or have the item delivered to store for pickup can you return that item instore yourself or does it have to be picked up? I feel like this shouldn’t be so hard to find out but I’ve dug and done as much reading as possible and all I get is mixed answers depending on who I talk to. Just want to see what the consensus is on here.
