2024.05.21 08:43 oneorang my immune system is apparently too weak to work retail but i cannot find another job

i was sick week before last at my retail grocery store job. i was having a fever and bedridden, i had to call out three days in a row and ended up returning on day 4 with a doctors note even though i didn’t really feel better but my urgent care doctor cleared me bc i had no fever on day 4 & i also didn’t want to get in trouble for missing so much time so i pushed through.
today i wake up with fever & vomiting. i have to call out sick tomorrow because i’m unwell but also food safety im not even meant to return to work with these symptoms.
i made a post on my company subreddit and most people who replied (only a couple to be fair) have been taking the side of “you should just get a different job, you’re not suited for retail.”
like, wow never thought of that. my biggest hopes and aspirations were actually to cashier despite my immune system not being able to handle all the interactions and managers showing up to work sick all the time. i love having a fever of 102 and being unable to keep down water! this is my favorite thing!
mainly a vent but also open to advice. my union contract is hella ambiguous. worried i’ll get fired. i wish i could be like “screw it and screw them!” but out of all the retail jobs this is actually the most tolerable and highest paying one… and clearly i am having no luck applying elsewhere. which i am doing. i got bills to pay for like everyone else.

2024.05.21 07:03 thebasilbutt I'm a medical student with GI issues/weird labs, no idea what is going on and urgent care keeps sending me home

[34][F][5'9''][BMI 33][White][GI issues]
PMH includes high Prolactin (45-80ng range), as well as something on my anterior pituitary that may or may not be a cyst, IBS, depression.
Current medications: Welbutrin, trazodone, fish oil, fiber tablets, multivitamin
Social history: don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs
History:
I've had releasing/remitting GI issues for years. I was told it is IBS. It may be, no reason to think it's not.
The past year I've had extreme weight gain (without medication change) of almost 40lbs. Was tested for cushings, cortisol came back normal under 50 with mightnight salivary test. Was told I just overeat. OK fair.
Thyroid tests are fine as of four months ago. TSH is upper limit of ideal but still within normal limits.
Labs for the past six months have shown persist borderline low or low sodium levels despite making sure I have enough dietary sodium. I have never had an issue with my sodium levels prior to this. I crave salt all the time, to the point where sometimes I just take tablespoons of soy sauce. I add salt to my water when I drink it. HDL is low for the first time in my life, LDL/triglycerides are fine. A few months ago my CO2 and sodium were both low with a normal happy anion gap. Neutrophils are often in the 65-75% range. The doctor hasn't been concerned by any of it. I always feel sick (lethargic, GI distress) when I go in/have this blood work done so it's associated with symptoms. I never have any fevers.
Four days ago I had yellow diarrhea. Two days ago it became yellow normal stool but with extreme gastric distension-- I looked four months pregnant. This was accompanied by nausea and lack of appetite. I dry heaved a few times and when I bent over I can feel gastric contents coming up into my throat. However, I never vomited and the diarrhea was only two bouts. I get full very quickly. I also noticed two red lines in my stomach that look veined patterned.
I went to urgent care yesterday and they said I a visible fluid wave but it didn't travel all the way across. They said labs wouldn't come back until tomorrow so I agreed to just wait and see which somehow got entered as me refusing blood work. Today I had a fever of 100.5 which was measured an hour after taking two extra strength Tylenol for a severe headache. Still no appetite although I can eat without throwing up. (I ate a bar of chocolate this morning.) I went back to urgent care, at which time they told me I no longer had a fever and everything on me appeared normal.
They did blood work and an URQ ultrasound. Ultrasound is clear but a big boi for a woman at 16.2cm length. Three yeras ago it was measured at 19cm so this isn't new. Bloodwork was unremarkable except for low chloride (97), borderline low sodium (136) and a borderline high anion gap at 19 (20 is upper limit of normal.) Neutrophils are slightly elevated at 67.1%.
Here's a link to today's labs: https://imgur.com/a/lSRwZSg
Here's a link to some labs that were done in March when I felt sick: https://imgur.com/a/yXCpT67
Significantly, creatine is happy, AST/ALT happy, lipase is happy, white/red blood cells are happy.
But I still feel like something is wrong. I feel sick. I have a fever. I don't understand why I have persistent hyponatremia/borderline hyponatremia, the low chloride is totally new (it was 7 points higher just a few months ago), and my anion gap at 19 is an outlier, historically speaking. I don't understand why my neutrophils are often elevated. The only differential I can come up with is something like Addison's Disease which hasn't be completely ruled out with the cortisol test but I have high blood pressure which doesn't fit at all.
Thank you.

2024.05.21 06:05 topjiggy 8 month old has only eaten 6 ounces today but is playing like normal

My baby had a full bottle this morning and then proceeded to projectile vomit the entire thing back up. Since then she has been refusing the bottle ALL day and has probably only consumed 4-6 ounces total in the 12 hours she's been awake. She makes a face like she doesn't like the taste, so I tried changing bottles, washing them like 10 times, putting her in different positions, making sure there are no distractions, but nothing has worked. She is also having light colored diarrhea. But she doesn't have a fever and hasn't been upset, she's happy and playing like normal.
What does this mean??? Should I take her to the doctor?

2024.05.21 04:49 fuzzyredsea Post-Tattoo sickness. How bad is it too bad? Help!

Hi friends,
Let me start off by saying I'm heavily tattooed (probably over 60hours+ of work as I'm getting a full bodysuit). I'm familiar with the aftercare and recovery process.
So my wife got a full sleeve over the weekend, trusted artist and everything. I knew some tattoo flu or sickness could follow, but today (the day after the last session) she's been a lot more sick than what I would have expected or than I've ever been. No apettite, diarrea, vomiting, headache, fever, swelling , and hasn't been able to get up of bed. All of the symptoms match with tattoo flu, but it seems too intense. The only symptoms that I can't explain is that she says she has a tingling feeling in both of her arms (only one was tattooed). I don't see any signs of infection though. No oozing blood, no pus, no bumps.
If she doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'll take her to the doctor, I'm hoping that more rest will help, but if it doesn't well consult a doctor to be sure.
I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or if the description above suggests something is going very wrong in the healing process? And, has anyone else experienced tingling in parts of the body that were not tattooed?

2024.05.21 04:30 JelloJuice Developing pneumonia looks like…

Developing pneumonia looks like…
This is Rilla developing aspiration pneumonia. She vomited around 1:30pm Wednesday. Had a mild cough after, I thought maybe kennel cough. By 4pm she had a huge vomit and her cough was worse. Took her to her regular vet who gave anti nausea and Benadryl. Said lungs and heart sounded good, no temp. First video is 7:30pm and her cough is getting wet and gurgly. Continued till 12am when she got about an hour sleep. Coughing 6 times an hour with this gag kinda thing after. By 4am she had another puke. Second two videos are 7am the next morning when I decided to take her to emergency. Had reduced oxygen saturation, was getting a fever, extremely lethargic, constant cough. X-rays showed no blockage or foreign body, but inflamed stomach, fluid or mass in her lungs, and a clear trachea. After iv meds she was sent home with anti nausea, antibiotics, and codeine for her cough. Doc thinks she had pancreatitis or ate something to irritate her stomach, she got sick and aspirated. Go for a recheck and repeat X-ray next week! I wanted people to see what pneumonia looks like. I had never seen it, it’s diff than kennel cough coughing for sure, and I wish we caught it earlier but it did occur very fast. Thanks for all the well wishes from members here! We both really appreciate it! ❤️

2024.05.21 04:08 UnremarkableM “Paradoxical” heart symptoms of flu B/ dehydration?

7f, 49”, was 55# but lost about 5# in a week. Structurally normal heart per a routine fetal echo (mono/di twins). Fully vaccinated but our flu shots were 7 months ago, she was DX with GERD just a week before this started and given 15mg oral disintegrating Prilosec once per day.
One twin vomited once and then had barely a fever (99-100) for a few days. The next day the other started vomiting, had a couple days break and then vomited for 4 days straight. No fever, no respiratory symptoms, no headaches or unusual pains. One day it was every 10 min- we went to the ER for fluids and zofran and returned home with a prescription for a few zofran pills. Back in the ER 2 days later because she still couldn’t keep more than a sip down, bloodwork showed dehydration markers and low blood sugar. Swabbed positive for flu B.
They ended up keeping her on an EKG for 2 days because her heart rate kept dropping. As low as 36 in the ER (she was awake, smiling at the tv, not passing out/ sweating/ blue/ no sign except the screaming monitor). Overnight she’d regularly drop into the low 40s while asleep- during the worst of her dehydration. Blood pressure was 80-something/50-something most of the time. After 48ish hours of fluids she was finally actively eating and drinking on her own and we were discharged with a peds cardiology follow up in a month.
Viral infection and dehydration each should raise your heart rate, yes? Have you ever encountered the opposite? Is there a particular reason they wouldn’t do additional testing besides the ekg since we were there for days anyway? After all the covid fuckery (MISC and the heart complications etc- My husband turned a + covid test once but I never caught a + for me or my twins- unsure if that’s relevant) I’m nervous as hell about heart issues. I’d really appreciate any insight or your experiences- thanks!!

2024.05.20 07:56 Different-Sample-876 possible Kawasaki disease?

Hello all, my son has had a fever that goes up to 102o since Tuesday. Started to feel sick Monday evening, went to bed and woke up that Tuesday with a fever. Fever was on and off. Gave him Tylenol and Motrin every 6 hours. Woke up both Wednesday and Thursday with what looked like pink eye, but had mucus and discharge. That went away for a little. Wednesday around 9 I gave him medicine and went to bed. He woke up on Thursday around midnight and had a fever of 102.1. We were up trying to bring his fever down. Was not able to get him into the doctor until Thursday late afternoon. Doctor said it looked like he had strawberry toungue. Presented all symptoms. Doc said there would be peeling of skin and if that happened to take him to ER. Saturday I notice little peeling skin around fingers, very minimal, can hardly see. Sunday he has more but still not a lot to alarm. Today, Sunday, he has complained of joint pain, stomach pain, headache, and has a cough, and fever of 101o . He has had fevers for 7 days now. He has followup Monday late afternoon. I am sure there is something there, but there is no peeling like I see on google images, and there is no vomiting. Could it be a case of mild/acute Kawasaki? I am just not sure if I should be adamant about getting him checked more for this.

2024.05.19 22:06 plz_help_me_33 Could this be some sort of food poisoning? [35M]

35 Male, 6' 145lbs
TL;DR: can bloating and low grade fever be the only symptoms of food poisoning?
This past Thursday evening I ate a serving of lentil soup, a piece of pita bread, and a chicken shawarma wrap from my nearby middle eastern restaurant. About 4 hours later I started to feel very full, bloated and slightly nauseous. I took pepcid and gasx but it persisted throughout the night. Didn't sleep well at all all of Friday my belly felt very bloated like there was trapped gas and I had no appetite at all and wasn't able to pass gas or have BM (hence the gas pains). Over the course of the day it moved slowly down to around my belly button and by Saturday morning it was more my lower abdomen that felt bloated. I tried to make myself vomit at one point on Friday to see if that would relieve some pain but I could only dry heave. It had probably been about 20 hours at that point since I'd eaten so I guess there wasn't anything to throw up? Saturday I was able to eat a little bit throughout the day but still had bad gas pains and started to have a low grade fever around midday which lasted the rest of the day/ night. Today (Sunday) I've been able to eat about 70% or so of my normal diet but still feel a bit of gas pain in my lower abdomen and was finally able to have a normal BM and then an hour later have diarrhea. I'm just wondering if all this could be some sort of food poisoning? I'm almost positive it's not my appendix bc my right side never really hurt. Has anyone else experienced this?

2024.05.19 21:51 TTC40 Adenovirus

Ugh..so my 2.5 YO started part time day care recently..not even two weeks in and she falls ill. Diarrhea like I’ve never seen, plus vomiting.
Thankfully, no fever….and if you didn’t know she was sick, you’d have no idea. Chipper, happy, not lethargic by any means. They tested her stool and it came back positive for adenovirus.
But the diarrhea….my God…I have gone through desitin and diapers like I am FN Octomom. I cannot wait until the distinct smell of “sick poop” is a distant memory. She is puking occasionally but I find this cleanup mild compared to five diarrhea diapers in an hour.
I am hoping her previously sheltered immune system is just getting a drastic “break-in”…because I’m not seeing the point of day care if I can’t Fn work due to illness and caretaking
About to go do the third round of laundry today……thankfully as of now I just have a sore throat…but time will tell 🥺

2024.05.19 21:07 GayBro97Yo Advice on HIV anxiety/ medical advice

Hello,
Please delete my post if this breaks any rules - I need some ways of coping with the stress of not knowing my status as of now. Here’s some background for everyone, I’ll do it from the beginning as I don’t know how else to do it:
I’m 26, male, gay. On 14th of April I’ve met a guy and had unprotected sex with him. I was passive. I know he was HIV+ve but he told me he was undetectable. Prior to this for about 3 weeks I was taking PreP daily which I only stopped 3 days prior to meeting him (I had some stuff happening) and restarted it an hour and a half before meeting him.
Fast forward two weeks, I get a high fever, vomiting, aches all over and a massive headache as well as a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. I didn’t immediately connect it back to him but I started finding out that unfortunately he’s a drug addict a stoner and frequently misses his meds - I am not judging at all so please don’t take it as such but that planted a seed in my head.
When my main symptoms went away (roughly day 15/16) I was left with aching everywhere and a sore throat that had continued on and off since then. It’s almost like the more I think about it the more it happens.
I am now in this IMMENSE black hole of constantly googling stuff related to HIV. I have done a test on day 32 which was a 4th generation test from my finger. This came back negative.
Yesterday, day 36 I’ve noticed white spots at the back of my throat.
I can’t stop googling, researching and finding more reasons as to why I am positive. I keep reading about how prep delays the detection window which is why I don’t trust my negative result.
I am just looking for people to give me some ways of coping with anxiety as it’s taken over my life. I am at work and I can’t stop thinking about it no matter what I’m doing. I keep randomly breaking down into tears. I wake up in the middle of the night and think about having it.
I understand having HIV is not a death sentence - I think it’s the anxiety of not knowing. If I knew I could then start moving on, but for now my life has been put on hold and I’m just paralysed.
I have another test at week 6 (+5days) and I’m already finding reasons as to why it won’t be definitive.
For me, it’s just way too many coincidences for me to not be positive and I just wanted people to essentially tell me what to do, please.

2024.05.19 12:48 proctactinium Lump back throat

Hi female 23 years old here! has anyone already had this kind of lump in the back of the throat behind the uvula? I had a tonsillectomy when I was a kid so I have no tonsils. I also have a sore throat and pain when I swallow!
I have a lot of other issues my doctor sent me to a rheumatologist because I have petechiae appearing anywhere on my body (under my eyes, in my mouth, back, arms, belly, legs…) as well as nausea sometimes vomiting and a lot of burping (feeling like air is blocked in my throat). Also I have some kind of hot flushes where I have the impression that my forehead, back and neck skin are burning and feel like I have fever but my temperature is normal (max 37,5°C)… I also am extremely tired, never feel rested and need to take a nap during the day even if I slept 10 hours. My doctor tested for vasculitis but it’s negative. I also had an endoscopy in my stomach everything is normal. I had anemia but got ferritin injection so now it should be normal but I have to go get it retested. If anyone has experienced something like this or if you have any idea of what it could be it would be great.

2024.05.19 06:50 Background-Scale-575 ST but waking every 2 hours after vaccine

Bubs just got her 4 month vaccine 3 days ago, and while we expected some disruption, it’s been tough.
Used to fall asleep independently and wake 1-2 times for feed, and self settle for false starts if any. Rarely a cry out or peek in between.
1st night: high fever, gave meds, sleep was on/off 2nd night: high fever, gave meds, vomitted night feed and meds 3rd night: no fever but up every 2 hours. Either for half a feed, us soothing, or loud cries but self sooth after a few minutes
For those that went thru the 4 month vaccine, what was yr experience? Does it get better, or do we have to retrain? :(

The episode faded back in to a shot of the Gaffers' platform being raised up to the roof by Scott, Ripper, and Chase as MK watched and Izzy walked over, wiping slime off herself.
"Uh, not to sound lazy," Scott said as he left the chain, "but I'm not feeling so good."
"You probably just have a cold," Izzy told him.
"Since when do colds have sores like this?" Scott followed up as he lifted his right arm and pointed to a round, reddish-brown spot on his elbow.
Izzy looked at him attentively and put her hand on his forehead. "Your body temperature is high, but it's possible that-" she was interrupted by a sudden burp from her teammate that caused her to cringe and take a step back. "Why does your breath smell like lemons?"
"Are you trashing my burps?" Scott asked in confusion.
"Hold on," Justin interrupted as the camera cut to him. "Red sores, fever, lemony burps? Aren't those symptoms of one of the diseases in the book?"
"Page 753," Millie exclaimed. "Mortatistical Crumples Disease!" She gasped. "And it's fatal!"
Everyone gasped. "Mortatistical Crumples is also highly contagious!" MK added, eliciting another gasp from most of the cast.
"Okay, looks like it's quarantine time!" Chris said, backing towards the door with barely-hidden panic. "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!" He gave them a quick wave, then dashed out the double door between the two vats. Both teams went over to it with shock on their faces as the sounds of power tools were heard on the other side.
The camera cut to Chris as he pounded a nail in with a hammer. It was one of many holding up a red banner with an orange skull-and-crossbones on it, set over several long pieces of wood that had been nailed up to bar the exit. "There's more to this disease than either team knows," he told the camera with an impish grin before walking away with a dark chuckle.
Another shot of the numbered studios was shown. "Hold on," Anne Maria spoke up as the shot cut back to the ten castmates in the challenge set. "How did Dirt Boy catch a fatal disease?"
“I'm sure it's just a twenty-four hour kind of fatal,” Scott hoped.
"We have to quarantine Scott! Stat!" Izzy said in a panic.
The camera showed Ripper furiously inflating a plastic bubble with a bicycle pump; the bubble had a yellow-and-black biohazard symbol on it. "Get inside now!" the bully shouted before Scott threw himself head-first into the bubble.
"Oh no!" Jasmine cried. "Brick has a sore too!" She pointed at the soldier boy's upper left arm, who took one look at the sore and began to wave his arm in a panic.
"It has to be a mistake!" Brick exclaimed.
"Hey!" Scott exclaimed from inside his bubble, another one getting inflated nearby. "Is there an exit to this thing?"
"There isn't one!" Ripper shouted as he continued to pump and Brick got into his bubble.
"Why didn't anyone tell me that before I jumped in?!" Scott griped.
“Okay, everyone just calm down!" Chase said.
"Agreed," Jasmine spoke up sternly. "We should make sure no one else is infected. Symptoms of Mortotistico Crumple's Disease include explosive diarrhea..."
"Oh no!" The camera cut to Chase as his bowels began to groan and he ran into a nearby portable toilet with a panicked look on his face.
"Itchy lips," Jasmine continued as the shot cut to Justin, who suddenly bit his lip.
"My… my lips," he moaned. "They're on fire!" He began to frantically rub and scratch at them, leaving them swollen and red.
"Sudden hot flashes," Jasmine listed off as MK began to sweat profusely and tug at her jacket. "Sea sickness," Ripper turned green and vomited. "Speaking in tongues," Izzy was the next to be affected as she babbled incoherently and indistinguishably with her eyes rolling upwards, which continued even as Jasmine listed the final symptom, "and temporary blindness."
"Everyone can see, right?" Jasmine asked as she checked over the castmates’ current states. "That's good to know," she said in relief before walking forward and bumping straight into Brick's bubble. "Oh no," she said in newfound panic. "I'm the one who's blind!"
Confessional: Anne Maria
"I know this is a reality show," Anne Maria told the confessional camera in a serious tone, "but I doubt that Chris would allow us to actually die on national television!"
Confessional Ends
The scene cut to Chris himself watching from his control room, leaning back in his chair with his legs propped up on the desk in front of him. "You'd think we wouldn't," he told the camera, "but, just imagine the ratings!"
Back in the quarantined set, the camera panned across the room to show that everyone except for Anne Maria, Millie, and the bubbled Brick and Scott were now laying on top of stretchers, groaning and moaning.
“This is super bad,” Millie said. “We have to do something.”
“Do you mean taking their temperatures, because we only have rectal thermometers, and I'm not in the mood to joke around with them,” Anne Maria responded.
“I wasn't even thinking about that at all,” Millie stated. “Joking with diseases is not funny at all.”
“Obviously, but have you noticed we're the only ones who didn't take part in the studying all-nighter, and we're the only ones who haven't been infected?” Anne Maria asked while looking over everybody.
“I'm not so sure about this supposed disease,” Millie mused. “We need to get our hands on one of those textbooks. There has to be something they missed.”
“I’d do it if Chris didn’t seal off the only exit,” Anne Maria argued.
"There’s another exit over there," Millie pointed to the Grips' platform, which was now sitting on the floor empty of body parts. The chain still led up to a hole in the ceiling where the reel was situated.
"Oh yeah. How in the world did I not notice that?" Anne Maria droned sarcastically before the two made a dash for the platform.
"I still haven’t forgotten you pushing me off the diving board a few days ago, so don’t think I’m scared of pulling the platform as high as possible," Millie informed as they stepped onto the platform and pulled down on the chain, making them ascend.
The footage flashed forward to the outside of the studio as the two girls jumped down from a ladder on the wall of the building. “You grab a textbook, I'll look in the kitchen,” Millie instructed before they split off in opposite directions.
Confessional: Millie
"I really hope that the disease is fake," Millie explained in the make-up trailer. "There were some diagnoses and symptoms in the textbook that I've never heard of before, but I've studied a lot about diseases to be familiar with a selective few."
Confessional Ends
Back inside, Scott was shown to be rolling around in his bubble. "How long has it been since I got in this bubble?" he groaned.
"I don't want to hold onto my bladder for more than an hour!" Brick cried while covering his groin with both hands.
"My lips," Justin groaned on his stretcher. "Of all places, why my lips?"
"I'd kiss them to make you feel better, but I'm not a princess and you are not a frog," MK said, sitting up on the stretcher next to him; Jasmine and Chase were visible in a row behind them. "And even then, I am not an animal kisser."
Ripper was sitting against one of the walls, writing something on a piece of paper with a bucket of vomit next to him. “To my parents; don't let my brothers keep the money I've taken from weaklings in the past.” He paused to throw up into his bucket before writing again. “To my brothers; don't even think about stealing my stash from me, especially you, Wolfgang! From your best son, Richard Kennedy.”
The double doors between the vats were thrown open by Millie and Anne Maria. The camera pulled out as the other cast members moaned, and the two young women stepped into the room – the Jersey girl holding a textbook, and the author with some kind of canister.
"Who's there?" Jasmine asked.
"Simmer down, everyone," Anne Maria said. "We're just here to expose the truth about these textbooks, which are actually bogus." She held the book she'd brought up, and easily tore the cover off it. "The book covers are just cereal boxes." Her bowels started to growl, and with a panicked look, she dropped the book and ran towards the portable toilet. "I'll be right back!"
"It can be a crock," Jasmine sat up on her stretcher. "Nobody's faking the sickness!"
“No, but it's still untrue,” Millie interjected. “I just went to Chef's kitchen, and I found this "cheese". The camera focused in on the canister in her hand as she held it up, showing that it had an image of a cheese wedge on the label.
"Uh, what is in that parmesan?" Brick wondered innocently.
"It is not cheese, but it is," Millie tore off the label to reveal a second beneath it with an image of scratching hands on it, "itching powder and laxatives!"
"Chef!" Brick muttered under his breath. "Why did he not inform me?"
It was then that Anne Maria burst back out of the portable toilet followed by a cloud of foul odor. "That explains the diarrhea and itchy lips."
"And I didn't get sick since I'm the only one who didn't eat the pizza," Millie added.
"What about the sores on Brick and Scott?" Chase asked.
"As for those," Millie laughed lightly, walking over to her quarantined teammate. "They're just pepperoni pieces that got stuck on you when you likely fell asleep."
Brick reached over to touch his sore, and it peeled off easily. "She's right!"
Scott also touched his own sore and it also peeled off quickly. "I was suckered! Now can somebody let me out of here now?"
"So wait," MK spoke up, "the disease is fake?"
Jasmine was the first to react, sitting up and blinking. "By golly. I'm not blind anymore!"
"And I can talk normally!" Izzy cheered.
"And I'm not gonna throw up anymore!" Ripper added. "We've been cured!"
"Could I be let out now?!" Brick pleaded. "I have some urgent business to take care of!"
"I'm comin’," Anne Maria rushed over to the bubble and simply popped it with her fingernail. Both of them winced as the bubble burst, and Brick immediately rushed over to the portable toilet.
"And don't forget about me as well!" Scott spoke up, rolling his bubble into the middle of the room.
Izzy took out a pin, popping her teammate's bubble. “This was all first year med school syndrome!” she said. “Too much studying and too little sleep can make you think you've got every disease in the book!”
"Congratulations, Killer Grips!" the voice of Chris McLean came suddenly, the camera pulling out to show the host descending from the ceiling on another chain. "You just won the challenge!"
The five Grips began to cheer and celebrate. "Brilliant diagnostic skills, Anne Maria and Millie. Way to suss it out. And, for your reward," Chris continued, frowning and looking down at his empty hands. "Knew I forgot something. Just a sec!" he said before stepping back onto the chain's foothold and raising back out of the room.
Confessional: Anne Maria
"This challenge was certainly… something," Anne Maria confessed. "I can't believe that I had to play the role of doctor just to tell everybody about the so-called disease being a lie. Who knew tainted pizza could make you have hot flashes and sea sickness?”
Confessional Ends
"One thing's for sure. I'm double checking my food from now on if I want to prevent temporary blindness or having to speak in tongues," Jasmine told the Grips as the footage cut back to them.
“Once again, the pizza was too good to be true,” Brick commented. “You made a good call not eating any slices, Millie.”
“I had no idea that there were laxatives put onto it,” Millie claimed. “If I wasn't so invested with the book, I'd probably eat the pizza and fall victim to the sickness just like you guys.”
It was then that Chris returned, descending down on the same chain as before but now carrying a covered platter. "As I was saying," he said as he walked towards the Grips, "for your reward!"
He removed the cover and the camera zoomed in on what lay beneath – five picture frames, three in back and two in front, each containing a photograph of a different person. The first on the left was a light purple cat. The second was a confident-looking Hawaiian woman with black long hair wearing a yellow tracksuit and red hoop earrings. In the middle was a teenage girl, pale with brown hair tied in a bun and a beige tank top. Fourth was a smiling white man; he had no hair, had golden dog tags around his neck, and was dressed in a dark green military outfit. And on the right end was an elderly black man with white curly hair, a white mustache covering his mouth, and a dark orange collared long-sleeved shirt.
"That's my cat Whiskers!" Jasmine said excitedly as the shot panned across the photos.
"And that's one of my girlfriends Vanessa," Anne Maria declared.
"Yup!" Chris told them. "One of you gets a whole spa night away from this cruddy studio lot, with your very best friend! So, who's the lucky stiff?"
“I'd kill for a spa day, even if it's with my mom, so how about letting me have it?” Justin smiled widely at his team.
“I have some things I want to talk about with my father,” Brick suggested.
“Now wait just a minute…” Jasmine interrupted as she, Brick, and Justin started to argue over who should get the prize.
“Can all of you shut up!!” Anne Maria ceased the fight, causing everyone to look at her. “As much as I would love to be away from this trashy film lot, I say we should let Millie have the reward.”
"Wait, me?" Millie asked in astonishment. “How come?”
"Clearly, you did the most research out of all of us, and you won the challenge for us," Anne Maria answered.
“You did say that the person who contributes the most should claim the reward,” Brick brought up.
“And with you also not eating that pizza, you've certainly earned that spa night,” Jasmine smiled.
“I don't want to be left out, so okay then,” Justin agreed with a shrug.
"Chris, the Killer Grips came to a decision," Anne Maria said before giving Millie a light shove forward.
"W-wow," Millie said softly as she began to tear up. "This is really generous!"
“Just accept the offer before I trade places with you,” Justin said.
"Eeeuuughh," Chris said in disgust. "Clean up on aisle two!" he called, and moments later, a pair of young white men in white work outfits walked through the open door, one of which carried a push broom. They disappeared off-screen for a moment, then reappeared with one pushing Millie towards the door and the other sweeping up after.
"Thank you for allowing me to take the reward!" Millie said as she allowed herself to be escorted out, wiping away her tears with her hands.
The scene cut outside as Millie walked up to the beaten-down Lame-o-sine. The door opened, and she smiled and stepped inside.
"Granddad!" the writer said happily as the shot moved inside to show her hugging the white haired old man who had been seen in one of the pictures. "I've really missed you!"
"I missed you too, Millie," the man said as he hugged his daughter. "Don't get my favorite shirt wet now. I got it dry cleaned."
"Sorry," Millie said as they broke their hug. "I have a lot to talk to you about ever since I competed in the first season."
Her grandfather smiled proudly. "Spill the details. I can tell you had a ball, but don't blame me if I start to doze off more than I do while writing best selling books."
"I'm not that boring!" Millie laughed cutely. "So it all started when I was dropped off on the dock..."
"Sheesh," Chris cringed as the scene cut to him in his control room. "Talk about a loving family! Hopefully they'll get their dullness smoothed while they're at the spa." He pulled a lever on the desk, cutting the monitor feeds to static, and stood up. "So, will the Grips' winning streak last? Or will they fall apart and lose their teamwork? Find out next time, on Total! Drama! Action!"
(Roll the Credits)
(Bonus Clip)
“That spa night was amazing!” Millie told the camera while in the trailer. “The manicures and pedicures were to die for, and the facials and mud bath really smoothened the rough parts of my skin. Granted, this spa night wasn't as fun as the two-day resort back in Camp Wawanakwa, but thankfully, I didn't have to eat any disgusting food this time, so that's an upside. Want to know something interesting? Granddad was more into the spa treatments than me, but don't tell him that I said that to you,” she added with a giggle.

2024.05.18 07:12 shyghst Kitten with fever after being neutered, vet closed

UPDATE hes all good now, vet administered fluids and two antibiotics. Not sure what caused the fever cause the incision site looked fine but hes already feeling a bit better tonight. Not 100% but much much better
Hello, my 3 month old kitten was neutered wednesday. No issues whatsoever and was eating and drinking normal until I got home from work today (friday). Lethargic and not eating or drinking. Has a fever that fluxuates between 104.5-105. There are not ER vets in the area and no vets here take after hour calls. Is there a way I can keep his fever down until his vet opens in the morning? I have been giving him fluids carefully via syringe. I have seen him use the bathroom a few times now, and he hasnt had loose stools. He is not vomiting either. He is walking odd on his back legs so Im guessing its an infection from his incision site. He is going to the vet as soon as they open, just need advice to get through the next 8 hours.

2024.05.18 00:30 CEO_of_Bakelite Getting over what I believe was Norovirus. Can’t shake the feeling of a large lump/knot in my stomach.

I am 25 years old, male.
Approximately 4 days ago I became very ill. Diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, nausea, weakness, fever, and gas/bloating. Possibly the worst “stomach bug” I have ever endured. Non stop vomiting couldn’t keep anything down. Ended up sleeping in my shower literally. I believe it was norovirus, but I am not sure.
Anyhow, my fever and most symptoms subsided on day 2. Here I am day 4 going on 5 and I have extreme discomfort in my stomach. It borders on being painful. It is a sensation of having a “full stomach.” I forced myself to eat a couple of times thinking maybe I was hungry to no avail. I’m passing very little to no stool even though I did eat full on meals. The discomfort subsides for the most part so long as I don’t sit upright or stand. I thought it could’ve been gas so I tried drinking some fizzy drinks to belch and tried antacids and gas x with no change. I’m not sure what this is or if it’s just a symptom of what I had that has to go away on it’s own?
TIA

2024.05.17 18:05 Virtual-Mongoose8898 Bad stomach pain

Abdominal pain help F22, 5'7, 120lbs
Around 2pm yesterday I started getting "bad period like cramps" in my stomach. I stand constantly at work and from about 2-5 it progressively got worse to the point of bending over in pain. Much worse than a period cramp. This pain is from my belly button up to my ribs, radiates around my back in the mid-back area. My stomach is super bloated/heard and painful to touch. It feels like constant stabbing in my mid/upper stomach. It's even worse when I try to move or twist or lean my back backwards. I can barely move because of the pain. Laying down and heat doesn't help. No fever that I know of, slight nausea and no vomiting. This has never happened before. Very sudden and intense pain.
I woke up this morning with a bit of a headache, feeling warm, but not as bad of stomach pain as last night. Still not great though. My back still hurts but pretty normal for me. Should I go to the doctor if it doesn't get better soon?

2024.05.17 16:37 JelloJuice Pneumonia in dogs looks like…

Pneumonia in dogs looks like…
I wanted to show the development of pneumonia of my lab across 12 hours. She first vomited water twice around 1:30pm Wednesday, and was a bit gaggy and coughing (nothing like kennel cough though). She had her regular vaccine appt at 2:30pm so I had her vet check her out. He didn’t find anything concerning. We did vaccines and went home. By 4:00pm she had a huge vomit and was gagging/coughing, drooling a bit worse. Took her back to the doc who gave her anti nausea and Benadryl injections (we didn’t think it was vaccine reaction but wanted to cover based).
By 7:30pm she was like the first video. She got a little sleep between 12-1am, and was gagging, drooling, gurgly breathing many times the rest of the night. Had another big puke at 4am, with a little less drool, but still wet breathing and drool, gagging.
By 7am Thursday she was like the last two videos (very wet breathing, lethargic, drool) and we went to emergency. Blood tests showed low oxygenation, she was developing a fever (was normal at her check up the day before). X-rays showed no obstructions or foreign bodies in abdomen or trachea (touching her throat made her cough, touching her belly showed pain) but fluid in her lungs and inflamed stomach. We will get interpretation of heart size today but the vet thinks she ate something that made her sick (or triggered pancreatitis) and she aspirated while vomiting. She’s on antibiotics, anti nausea, and codeine and is home improving.
This cough was way different than kennel cough and I couldn’t find much online while waiting for answers so I wanted to post so others could know this weird symptom presentation. Hug your beautiful pups for me! She’s gonna be ok!

2024.05.17 12:50 empemlive Loss of appetite & fatigue after a virus

Hi all. Kiddo has just had a horrid virus. Must be something going around - high fever for 5 days, vomiting, general irritability. No fever anymore. Fluid intake good. But she's still not eating much. Maybe 50% of her regular intake? And has been very tired. Doesn't nap at daycare but when she comes home has been falling asleep on the couch. GP says loss of appetite and fatigue are normal. But wondering on average how long does this last for? Negative for covid rsv & influenza.
