2024.05.22 03:47 dldocter Top Golf Naperville B&H

I am not sure if anyone listened to Bernstein & Holmes last Wednesday (15th). they were talking about guns and crimes in the top golf in Naperville. It turned ugly
Dan and Laurence slandered the city of Naperville and all of its residents as racists. It was a totally unhinged cringe worthy performance from Dan.
He said (paraphrasing) when people say “Naperville is just like Chicago without being in the city”. What they really are saying is it’s Chicago but better because there are no black people….it continued on for a few minutes of Naperville suburbs are racist dog whistlers or something.
I was a big boers and Bernstein fan and really enjoy the guests on Bernstein and Holmes. I was a big Holmes fan with his solo show. Now I am finding myself struggling to even listen because of the crazy irresponsible rhetoric at times.
I am still shocked by Bernstein comments a few months ago regarding Fields and Bagent. The long rants on racists supporting Bagent or the dog whistles from announcers in the booth. Those two lost their collective minds defending fields as a legit QB post Bagent. For the record Bagent is not a starter either.
The one that almost made me quit the score was the fields press conference. Fields criticized the coaches and later in the week. he walked it back. Dan said…that the Bears leadership confronted fields and made him correct it publicly. The bears were upset with Fields because he was acting too uppity and needed to know his place. Dan continued that if Fields were white this would have never happened. Even Holmes was uncomfortable with it…he had to tell Dan the person that talked to fields was black. Dan wanted to double down to say that there was still some nefarious instruction from someone above that person.
These examples are from a long list of other crazy awful radio segments.

2024.05.22 03:45 Nervous_Eye4203 Just fired from a job for the first time and I don't think it was my fault

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the correct sub, so please let me know if it's not. I was hoping for some advice and maybe some words of encouragement. I was fired from my job at a VR Arcade a week ago, and I'm really struggling with feeling like an absoloute failure. I also can't afford rent now, and I'm in my last push of getting my degree, so I'm really stressed out.
I was good at my job, really really good, my manager said so. My colleague doesn't think I should've got fired over what happened - nobody I actually worked with agrees with the decision, but it was out of their hands as it was made by the owner of the company (relatively small business). I believe if it had been down to my manager, I would still be there, as he was backing me while my termination was in discussion. I'm in the UK, for context, if this affects anything. I was employed there twice.
At the VR arcade, we ran VR escape rooms and free-play "gaming sessions" (I don't know why but the name of it makes me cringe), and birthday parties for kids (where they can all play gorilla tag or among us, for example) which are dependent on the PCs...working. They are plagued with technical and physical issues to this day, and bookings often don't run too well.
I had been saying since over a year ago, when I was first employed there, that the PCs weren't running very well, and that we really needed somebody to come down to our store to take a look at what was going wrong, but nothing was done. Then my (old) manager, who was almost 40, confessed feelings for me over text message, and I was 21 at the time. I found it sickening because we had a very "I ask you for life advice and you tell me about your life experiences" relationship, and he was always talking about how he wanted a wife and kids, so I was really upset and uncomfortable. We were the only two people working there. I told my boss that I was really upset and asked if we could be kept seperate. Because there was only the two of us, the bookings wouldn't allow for it (we'd have to work together), and "what he'd done wasn't illegal", my boss refused to accomodate anything at all so I walked out on the spot.
About six months later, I'm asked to come back for a higher wage and I agree. Creepy manager left after I did, they employed two new teenagers, and they've lost another staff member. Again, there is now only two of us working there. For context, sometimes we are expected to help up to 6 kids by ourselves with their games. This sounds relatively fair, until you imagine you're in a room with 6 7-12 year olds trying to play virtual reality, which many of them have never touched before, alongside PC crashes and errors and trying to make sure they all still have fun, whilst their parents are shooting daggers at you and loudly saying "Timmy, is your headset broken?", when in actuality they ignored the instruction talk and are pressing the buttons they were specifically told not to. Meaning I have to put their headset on and get them back into the game that they were in because they've found the settings. As soon as I come out, someone's PC has started throwing out errors and I need to fix that - and then another "excuse me!" - It's hard to juggle by yourself.
I start getting vocal about the PC issues again, and eventually someone comes down to "fix" them but we're still getting issues. There was one complaint because my boss did not pay for the game pass (and xboxes are advertised on the party packages), and kids couldn't play the games that were being advertised. I had to text him, during the party, to get it sorted out (and even then, I had to go and get the card and individually enter it on all of the xboxes and leave the kids in the VR room unattended - coming back to a backlog of issues which I can't fix in a timely manner). Eventually - and only because they thought I might be leaving due to the end of my course when I said I wanted to stay on full time - they hired a third person who is like the Jesus of VR.
On my last day, I had to tell my boss to pay the VR game subscription so that the day could run at all. Of course, this led to all of the PCs freaking out, and my colleague (who is luckily a VR wizard, she develops games for that) managed to fix it just in time for a party but even she experienced some hassle.
I play a lot of games, and I'm great with kids, but I'm not a technician, nor am I a manager and this was not listed in the job description. We have several complaints about the equipment not working on their booking. Our PCs were plaugued with technical issues (critical SteamVR fails for example) and crashes, which meant that entire bookings were being ruined, and I was being spoken to really badly by customers. I'm very sensitive because I have anxiety, so this was awful for me, and I cried several times on different days. I once had somebody ask: "who's running this sh*t show?" and "this is a f*cking waste of money" (on my last day). On my last day too, a lady booked the wrong time and said "the more you talk, the more you're wasting my kids time" and insisting that the booking system was wrong and that it was not her fault - even though the booking system has never messed up and the time she booked was the only available time we'd have had, as I checked the bookings the night prior and she had booked the only free space.
I have a lady that the bosses wife labelled as "horrible" break me in the end, she raised her voice at me while I was doing absoloutely everything I can to make her kids birthday party run well. It was a Saturday, and my boss had understaffed due to wanting to save money, so I was the only person on that floor. I couldn't ask my colleague for help as we're not allowed to leave anyone unsupervised and she was upstairs. It was a packed Saturday, with people turning up early and bombarding me with questions even though they could clearly see how stressed I was. My manager had given himself the day off. It was just me. There are so many people waiting (turning up 30 minutes early), that I run out of space in the xbox room for them to wait, and the party I'm trying to run keeps failing. I end up calling my manager, having an anxiety attack (I think) and having to go out the back. I couldn't breathe and I was crying and I felt dizzy, I almost fell over. My manager comes in and I leave - I tell him over text while he's on the way that I don't want to quit, but I'm sick of being the face of a broken product and getting abuse for it. I ask if I still have a job when I come back into the building and he's arrived, and he said it'll be discussed but that I "shouldn't get fired".
I leave, go to see a fake Radiohead concert with my friends and get super smashed. No surprises was not a pleasant one when you think you're about to get fired LMAO
I start getting messages from my manager and my colleague saying, and I quote, "we looked at the PCs, and we can confirm none of the issues were your fault today". My colleague then messages me privately and gives me some hope, saying that it shouldn't be a big deal.
Well...this "discussion" was supposed to happen the following day, but they postpone it to Wednesday. I found this disrespectful on top of not getting breaks on packed days, being paid late and a general lack of communication from my boss and his wife.
I ask bosses wife what's going on. She calls me: "you're just too anxious, the people in [where you live] are so much more cutthroat than in our other locations, you're just not a good fit".
I think this is so unfair. I was essentially fired for having an anxiety condition, which would never have impacted my work if it wasn't for technical problems that I had raised dozens of times that they should have fixed. I asked if the decision was final and she said yes. She was almost crying, but she still did it - so I don't really care about how hard it was for her anymore. She did it on an unknown number, too, which looking back, I think is kind of weird.
TL:DR; I was fired from my job because issues with equipment that I had raised dozens and dozens of times over the course of nearly two years were ignored. Bookings started getting ruined, we were understaffed and customers were horrible to me, leading to my anxiety condition being triggered and having a panic attack on several occasions. On my last day, it was so bad I had to ask my manager to come in and I left. I was fired on the basis of being "too anxious", and I'm distraught. Does anyone have any advice?

2024.05.22 03:39 FreeRun5179 (SPOILERS MAIN) Stannis's character development is great

A bit of a long post today summarizing Stannis's character journey through the books. Don't read if you don't mind a little Stannis dickriding. Sorry not sorry.
When I first read AGOT, I thought Stannis was pretty cool. Ned mentioned that he was a hard mfr, so I respected that, even if he didn't make an appearance. It also added to the mystique that this guy who hadn't showed up yet was massing an army just a couple dozen miles from King's Landing with a sorceress. Overall great side character in the first book.
Next book, he's at his worst (which is still pretty good, anyway). Pre-Renly assassination, Stannis was kind of a jerk. One line that stuck out to me was the "not allowing laughing at his feast" part. He wasn't mysterious anymore, he was just a guy with a small army and a huge navy groveling about what is rightfully his but wasn't granted to him. Stannis mostly stops his groveling after Renly's death, though, and gets his act together. The Blackwater was probably my favorite sequence in the books. The idea of guys charging across a burning bridge of ships redeemed whatever qualms I had about him before. He had an army willing to charge across a burning bridge of ships. Compare that to the dicking around that Renly did for most of the second book, hosting tournaments and feasts at every minor holdfast he came across.
Stannis's character development up to this point is minimal. He's stayed mostly the same, although with less complaining, since he has a larger army. After the Blackwater is really what this post is about, because that's when he changes the most.
He realizes now that with his army basically reverted back to what it was pre-Renly, and with much less of a navy, that he can't hope to win any land campaign against any of his opponents in the South. He can't gather Tyrell swords, and he has no gold to buy a lot of mercenaries. So he sits on Dragonstone and becomes reclusive and despairing.
Then Davos comes back, and so begins the best bromance in Westeros (i'm willing to debate this with my life). Unlike the BS other version, he smiles and is very happy that Davos came back. He appoints a commoner as Hand of the King, knowing he's the only one to give him honest advice. Never done before (to my knowledge). "Then we will make new lords" is such an awesome line. Davos is one of the purest people in Westeros, and 100% deserves it. I realized that if Davos was supporting Stannis wholeheartedly, and Davos was basically an angel by Westerosi standards, Stannis couldn't have been that bad of an option for King.
I think what turned a cool but sometimes annoying character into a legend was his saving of the Wall, at Davos's insistence. He listens to his hand, leaves tiny garrisons in Storm's End and Dragonstone which he's probably confident will be starved out or taken within the year, and heads north. He bets all this on the word of his Hand and a single letter. All the other Kings and various claimants, who had more men than he did, didn't spare anybody. Stannis brings his entire army.
Few of the birds that Aemon) had sent off had returned as yet. One reached Stannis, though. One found Dragonstone, and a king who still cared.
So Stannis lands and disembarks, taking the wildlings by surprise. I think "Stannis! Stannis! STANNIS!" was what turned most Stannermen into what we are today. He defeats 40,000 warriors in an even larger column with 2,000 mounted knights and men-at-arms. He saves the Night's Watch when no other King would, preventing a full-on wildling invasion. I know some people say they wouldn't be as bad as some others say, but nobody can control a horde of 100,000 undisciplined people who just got past a massive wall. There would've been a fair bit of looting and killing.
Then, he listens to Jon Snow, offers to legitimize him and accepts his rejection. He thinks he should attack the Dreadfort, and even though he's famed for being stubborn, he sees reason, and decides on a march on Winterfell. He completely breaks with his character when he also listens to more advice that says he needs to court the mountain clans. He gains three thousand men from this venture. Overall, doing great.
Even if the North is only supporting Stannis to get a Stark back in Winterfell and kill the Boltons, I don't think they'll betray him either. The Great Northern Conspiracy is probably a vast collection of smaller conspiracies, all wanting to get a Stark back ruling the North, as a King or not. Just my thoughts, though, it's completely open to interpretation.
So he rallies whatever remains of the North to him, and liberates Deepwood Motte, giving it back to its original house, getting their support as well. He keeps valuable prisoners and helps to keep an army full of multiple ethnicities and dialects afloat long enough to smash the Freys. He has a great plan which I believe will work.
This is how far Stannis goes in the books. I might update if Winds comes out. I have no delusions, Stannis is doomed by the narrative, but I think (hope) George will do him a service and allow us to have the satisfaction of seeing him string up Roose and Ramsay, and then go out like a boss against the Walkers.
CONCLUSION
Overall, he went from a spiteful man who was, although the better candidate for King than his brother (i'll debate this in the comments if you want) only thought of his rights, and not of his people, at the beginning. Quote:
Surprisingly, Stannis smiled at that. “You’re bold enough to be a Stark. Yes, I should have come sooner. If not for my Hand, I might not have come at all. Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.” Stannis pointed north. “There is where I’ll find the foe that I was born to fight.”
Unfortunately, that probably won't work out for him, but Stannis is, without a doubt, the greatest of the candidates living. In the Clash of Kings era I wouldn't have said this, but GRRM has shown that he does bend, like when he courted the mountain clans or learnt to serve the people to gain loyalty, not the other way around.
I hope I get to see him roast Ramsay on a spit.

2024.05.22 03:37 jl_theprofessor Quick notes on Christian Theology and Imagery

This is a discussion about Christian theology. There's some real obvious stuff I discuss up top, and some more arcane stuff later, namely the Doctrine of the Serpent Seed and the View of Felix Culpa. Feel free to jump to those if you don't want a rehash of all the Jesus/Satan parallels in the trailers but I think it's worth a refresh.
Relationships
Miquella is Marika's child. Messmer is Marika's child. The first comes from the world's Golden Order and the second from the Land of Shadow. The gameplay trailer has Messmer referring to "mother" and doesn't say Marika's name directly but she's the most likely candidate to sanction someone becoming a Lord since it's her order that was last in existence.
Christ and Satan
Miquella and Messmer take center stage in the gameplay trailer and both are referenced heavily throughout. If you have the Grace of Gold, you won't meet death. That's a promise of Marika's since within the Golden Order the Rune of Death has been removed. People return to the Erdtree. In contrast, Messmer says "Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death in the embrace of Messmer's flame." So to be graced means salvation, and to not be means destruction. Heaven, hell, with Miquella aligned with the salvation aspect and Messmer aligned with the destruction aspect.
So Miquella is pretty heavily aligned with Christ. Miquella's rune blatantly looks like a cross, evoking Christ. The gameplay trailer says he "wields love to shrive clean the hearts of men." To shrive in Christian practice is to hear a confession and absolve a person of their sin. Christ in the Bible is described as a Christian's High Priest who wipes clean a person's heart.
But the most important words here are from the story trailer which says, "Miquella would abandon everything. His golden flesh, his blinding strength. Even his fate." So the motif here parallels Phillippians 2, which says about Jesus, "Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!" Here we have both casting off divinity.
In contrast, and as noted above, Messmer is aligned with Satan in a lot of ways. There's the quote that his fire destroys those not graced by gold, similar to how hellfire is the destruction of the unsaved. There's also the snake imagery, and the fire motif.
The Doctrine of the Serpent Seed
Alright so now for the first doctrine. The story trailer says that in the beginning, there was "The seduction and the betrayal." The story of the Garden of Eden often references Eve being seduced not necessarily sexually but by the allure of becoming a god. The Old King James version specifically says, "Your eyes shall be open, and you shall be as gods." So we have an initial parallel here of this moment being when both Marika and Eve become as gods because of their affair.
For Eve it wasn't a sexual affair, and it might not have been Marika's either. But there's a lot happening in that trailer that evokes sexuality and actual birth, including two images of what looks like the vulva and a birthing canal.
At any rate, the trailer then says this was "An affair from which Gold arose. And so too was Shadow born." So this act of Marika's brings both salvation and destruction. Those blessed by Gold had the prospect of life eternal, while those left in the Shadows faced destruction.
In the Doctrine of the Serpent Seed, it is believed that Eve first had sex with the snake before she had sex with Adam. Her affair with the snake gave birth to Cain, while her relationship with Adam gave birth to Abel and Seth. This doctrine marks the descendants of Cain versus Adam/Seth as two different races of human beings. The first was the wicked descendants of the snake who was cursed to be damned, while the second was the righteous who were bound to have eternal life. And we see in the trailers that Marika's decisions, like Eve, produced two outcomes with a group of the damned and a group of the saved.
And, of course, throughout Elden Ring, the snake is associated with wickedness and a betrayal to the Erdtree, such as with the Duelist Helm, which explicitly states, "The snake is viewed as a traitor to the Erdtree."
Am I saying Marika slept with god like snake? Maybe. If Messmer is the product of that, he is a reflection of Cain and what Cain represents. Adam and Seth, meanwhile, are two bloodlines similar to how Marika/Radagon has two lines through the Godfrey/Rennala partnerships.
The Doctrine of the Serpent Seed says that history is defined by the conflict between these two races and that one day the descendants of Adam will crush the descendants of the Serpent. I'll just say here that Messmer's got snakes coming out of him and I don't think he gets that from Rennala or Godfrey.
The View of Felix Culpa
Felix Culpa in Christian theology means "happy fault," "blessed fall" or "fortunate fall." In Christian theology, it refers to how the Fall of man brought the unexpected benefit of also allowing for mankind to know and understand the saving grace of Christ. I like the Doctrine of the Serpent Seed more but this one may have some application. I say that because the story trailer says that there was a negative event, a seduction and betrayal, but that this allowed for Gold to arise.
So the story trailer notes that despite the evil that came of this seduction and betrayal, there was also the grace of Gold that arose from it and the eternal life that accompanied it. There is the original salvation offered in the grace of Gold. But the image released from Bandai Namco says that Miquella "abandon(ed) Grace in pursuit of something greater." From a Christian theological perspective, there were two methods of redemption used in human history. The first was the use of the animal sacrifice as practiced historically by the Jewish community. Later, there was the sacrifice of Christ that brought a permanent removal of sin. It sounds crass to describe it as an "upgraded" form of forgiveness but that's the most basic way to put it.
So the unfortunate consequence of Marika's actions also birthed the path to the ultimate form of salvation not even in her original design, but through Miquella's sacrificing of his own divinity in pursuit of something greater.
In the end, I think there's a nice little resonance between the Doctrine of the Serpent Seed and Felix Culpa going on in the trailer.

first
Luna VI query: Set the source to the leaked files of the first reconnaissance operation of Irisa.
Done!
Luna VI query: What did Nathan do during the first hour of the war?
***
From the instant he opened his eyes, Nathan's morning was chaotic. It all began with the ground shaking beneath him, jolting him into a state of awareness. He then was greeted by the sight of Amara. She was leaning against a corner, covered in purple from head to toe as she screamed at someone through an earpiece that she was pressing with one of her claws.
His good morning was overhearing one piece of bad news after the other.
The rest of Amara's group had been ambushed early in the morning; many were dead, injured, or missing.
A war had erupted in the sky and her allies were trying to push back the enemy forces, but the battle persisted; the outcome was uncertain.
Zara was being brought to them, but Amara had lost contact with Igmila's group who was bringing her, only receiving confirmation from another group that a rescue pod was spotted at a distance.
And when he thought that things couldn't get any worse, he heard a bang followed by the AI reporting that Ryo had shot down a drone somewhere near their position.
"Open the tent!" Red had conquered Amara's body.
None of the scenarios Nathan had contemplated the previous night had prepared him for such a chaotic morning. "Give me a second."
He only wanted a chance to get his gun from his backpack and explain why he had it in the first place, even though he suspected Amara was already aware he had it. But she didn't let him. "Now!"
She had never felt so distant to him as the moment she said that single word, which led him to just comply as he stood up and followed her in silence. But this frail silence only masked his morning grumpiness, magnified by the dire circumstances and her cold demeanor toward him.
Nathan had barely caught a glimpse of Ryo and Elysira at a distance when he muttered. "It wouldn't have been so hard to say a few words to fill me in, you know."
Amara's eyes were transfixed on the smoking pieces of the drone when she whipped her head around, glaring at him with her orange eyes. "My people are fighting a war and dying. How can you demand my time when Yelara is hurt and barely escaped alive?"
"Oh, come on, I'm not demanding anything." He scoffed, shaking his head. "I just don't think it would have been so hard to tell me what you intend to do in the next five minutes."
The tip of her tail pressed against his chest, as red and purple coexisted on her skin.
"I am heading up the mountain to find Igmila." She spoke in a detached voice, pulling her tail back and turning around, and then she sprinted in the gap between himself and the tent.
He caught a glimpse of gray on her neck and all his grumpiness was gone, replaced by a cold shiver running down his spine. With his arms moving faster than his thoughts, he grabbed her by the tail, preventing her from going anywhere.
"You absolutely can't do this Amara." Nathan looked down at the tail he held with both hands and swallowed a lump of saliva in fear of her reaction. But that still didn't prevent him from finishing what he had to say, "It's too dangerous."
Amara's eyes sought his, causing him to suspect she would demand to be released or try to free herself by force, but she did something else. "All of this is because of you. Had I not come to your tent, I would be there to assist them."
Nathan caught a glimpse of green around her back spots, which let him know that there was a hint of guilt in her words. But did that justify blaming everything on him and running into danger without thinking?
If not for the awful night followed by an awful morning, Nathan might have just taken the blame and hugged her. But he too had his limits, "How is that fair? Blame me all you want, but nothing will change that you had all the chances in the world to go back and you didn't. I'm not saying that you could have done anything abo-"
"Indeed." Gray flashed for a moment before red flowed among her black spots. "This night was a waste of time." His grip faltered at her words and she pulled her tail back from among his fingers. "I should have stayed with Yelara to help her tend to her wounds."
Nathan bit his lips in frustration. How was it possible to agree with her words, yet still feel the sharp sting in his heart?
And if that was not enough, Ryo had to step in to rub salt in the wound.
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
With Elysira’s tail wrapped around his wrist as she averted her eyes from Amara, Ryo spoke, "Please don't tell me you're mad because the plant lover couldn't get it up."
Nathan blinked fast not believing his eyes. Ryo was not only shirtless but there were a lot of scratches on his neck and below. Elysira’s long strands were also a mess, but even without that, their physical closeness alone would be enough of a hint of how much fun they had at night.
When Nathan glanced at Amara to gauge her reaction, she had already crossed her arms, looking at him angrily. Which immediately made him feel as if Ryo’s not-funny joke was true although he knew it wasn't.
It took Nathan a considerable amount of self-retainment to not walk up there and rearrange Ryo's handsome face with his fist, or at least attempt to do so.
A few seconds passed before he said, "Why are you here?"
Ryo didn't even bother to look at him, his eyes focusing solely on Amara. "Information. I want her to tell me what she knows about this war."
Amara didn't look pleased to help, but she still informed him about the ambush and even alerted him that even their current position would soon be unsafe.
As If things weren't already bad enough, Ryo frowned and hurried to instruct Elysira to get his things as soon as Amara had finished talking. Nathan felt like he was in a war movie where everything was happening too fast for his emotions and reason to follow.
It was only when he saw Ryo raising his gun skywards that Nathan’s anger subsided, contained by the prospect of how bad their situation was. Ryo movements were fluid and methodical, but he never pulled the trigger on the many drones that appeared high above and, instead, retreated to take cover behind a tree.
Only now the seriousness of the situation sank in for Nathan.
He didn't even care that he hadn't explained to Amara why he had a gun yet, rushing inside the tent after exchanging a glance with her.
After crossing the circular door, he found only a few items on the ground: a pair of boots, his sleeping bag, and his backpack with all his equipment inside.
Nathan was quick, wearing his boots first before retrieving his belt, knife, and holster from the backpack. With a sequence of swift movements, he strapped the sheathed knife and holster to the belt and cinched it around his waist, securing it in place before closing the backpack and dashing out the door with his gun in one hand and the backpack in the other.
Already outside, Nathan found it weirdly reassuring that Ryo was in the same spot as before, but that only lasted until he tried to find Amara, but found nothing no matter where he searched for her.
He dropped his backpack, feeling at a loss. How could he have allowed her to venture beyond his sight when he knew that guilt was clouding her judgment?
Only when he had already cupped his hands around his mouth to scream her name that he felt a touch right above his heel—her tail.
"Psst..."
Wiping his head, Nathan saw Amara's whole body mimicking the colors of his tent, making herself quite hard to spot.
"I thought you were gone." He joined her, stooping down beside the tent as relief washed over him.
"It might be too late to join my soldiers." She didn't allow her colors to change, but the translator conveyed a hint of sadness. "I lost contact with all the teams who were coming here."
"Amara I-"
Nathan was about to attempt to make things right with her when Ryo’s assertive voice reached him. "Listen up, those fuckers are jamming our comms and they will be here at any time. Take the MLBCS and find a clearing to use it, I doubt they can interfere with the laser. Just don't forget that your immediate safety comes first or else you might not be among the living when the pod arrives."
Ryo ran back to his tent as soon as he was done speaking, leaving Nathan questioning his own intelligence. How come he had never even considered leaving the planet? A single glance at Amara and he knew why. But did he have any other option?
Staying and fighting to hold his position was something he briefly considered. But did he have a chance when even Ryo decided to leave after seeing the drones?
Mission control might give him other options, so Nathan decided to try his luck despite Ryo’s warning.
Unable to establish a two-way connection.
He confirmed the interference with the communication with a single thought, kicking his backpack in frustration even though it was expected.
Why did it have to be so hard to accept that Ryo was right and leaving the planet was his best option?
But would Ryo truly leave the planet and leave Elysira behind?
Nathan forgot Amara who was beside him and screamed, not allowing this question to stay in his mind, "Wait, what are you gonna do?"
Ryo replied as he waited for Elysira, "I'm not leaving the planet unless mission control finds a way to save Ely too."
Nathan's eyes widened, feeling like an idiot as he brought up a pop-up window showing the schematics of the rescue pods. They were designed to be fast vehicles capable of transporting a single person to the space station, but Earth's government hadn’t skimped on the design, which included various components that could be discarded, such as medical supplies and search and rescue equipment.
He used the AI to run the calculations and found that Amara would likely be able to go with him, that is if they wedged themselves into the vehicle and discarded everything else.
Nathan was about to share his findings with Ryo when he caught a glimpse of him and Elysira disappearing into the woods, abandoning their tent behind as they ran away.
A sense of urgency struck him at that moment, but it was easily forgotten when Amara's voice struck even harder, "You should go."
"What do you mean?" He sought her eyes, but she avoided his gaze, facing to the ground.
"Do what Ryo suggested." She took a small pause before she went on. "Leave the planet."
"The hell I will!" He punched the tent. "Not without you." He could only assume she was saying this because she didn't know she could leave with him. "You'll come with me, and the pod will take us to the space station."
"Your species will refuse to take me." He saw a hint of purple on her neck. "Before the mission started your people told us you humans will not get involved in our wars." She finally made eye contact, and the purple on her skin intensified. "My best chance to survive this is to hide in the mountains and wait for reinforcements."
"You don’t understand, Amara." He didn't have time for a full explanation of what humans considered not getting involved. "No one in mission control will want to leave you here to die just because of some stupid rule." He then spoke his heart out without a care in the world. "And even if they do, they will take you anyway if say I won't go anywhere without you."
A hint of yellow could be seen among her camouflaged skin, but before she could say what she would do, her tail wrapped around his neck and he felt a strong pull to lower his head and bend his knees for cover.
"The rebels are here," she whispered as her ears twitched.
Nathan was tall enough to see the slope on the other side of the tent by just standing, but Amara struggled to see from above the structure, requiring her to stretch her full height and still take little jumps to take peeks.
And it was after doing so that she dropped her camouflage entirely, letting purple run free among her black spots.
Nathan took interest in what she had seen that had caused such a reaction, and he leaned cautiously against the tent and raised his head slowly, prepared to find a few armed Irisians hidden among the trees. But what he found instead was a never-ending line of Irisian advancing downhill at a fast pace towards them.
He understood Amara's reaction now, pulling back the harmer of the revolver as he stared at her. "I need to... do something."
He made up his mind, determined to shoot. But when activated the infrared view mode and took aim at Irisians descending the slope, Nathan froze for a second. This just lasted a moment, and when found the resolve to fire, he had already lifted the gun enough that it wouldn't hit anyone and it would just be a warning shot.
He fired once, twice, and went on until all six rounds were gone, then he noticed their organized marching had stopped, all of them having activated their camouflage. Some even broke the line and retreated uphill.
When he took cover again, Amara was protecting her ears with both hands, looking at him as if he were some sort of monster. Nathan ignored her and rifled through his backpack in search of more ammunition, finding the small box with shining metal bullets after he had searched for some long seconds.
It was only when he released the cylinder to reload the gun that Nathan noticed something.
His hands were shaking.
He ignored it and pressed the extraction rod the remove the cartridges from the cylinder to make room for the new ones, clumsily dropping a few of them as he reloaded.
Amara saw this and stopped him with her tail before he had filled all the chambers.
"I cannot go with you." Her body had been conquered by purple.
"You think I'll leave you behind?" He almost reached his breaking point when she replied.
"No." Her tail touched his cheek gently. "There are too many of them, Nathan." She pulled her tail back as a hint of gray appeared. "My brother will never let me go, he lost too many ships and soldiers to give up without his prize." The gray intensified, squeezing her black spots. "If you die with me on this planet, your species might abandon Irisa forever.
"My chances of hiding in the mountains are slim, but they exist... and even if I fail I will distract them long enough for you to flee."
Her body blended with the surroundings again and Nathan felt that she was about to do something stupid, but he moved faster and grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to bend her legs and join him on the ground as she stared at him with wide eyes.
"To hell with this self-sacrifice bullshit." Nathan finally decided what he would do. "Do you think I will die that easy? Guess what, you’re wrong." His hands moved from her shoulder to her back and he embraced her. "Let me tell you what we'll do, we take the MLBCS, we find a clearing, and we go to the space station." He released her and added, almost crazily. "You go with me even if I have to drag you by the tail as you scratch me, you hear me?"
He was not kidding; he grabbed her tail with his left hand, leaving her exterior filled with colors ranging from purple to yellow.
Amara was about to reply when the tent produced a thud noise, sounding as if someone had knocked on a cardboard box. When they turned to the side, there was a tiny hole in the tent dangerously close to Amara's head.
She touched the hole with her finger, and then her whole hand pressed against the side of her head, staring at him without saying a word.
Nathan's heart skipped a beat when he realized what had just happened, and consumed by a rage like he never felt before, he pressed the cylinder of his revolver back into place with just the four bullets inside, pulling back the harmer.
This time there was no hesitation, he quickly stood up and used the infrared view mode to survey the now organized groups of Irisians who had taken a defensive formation, choosing as target an Irisian who had climbed a tree and was pointing a long gun at them.
In just a moment Nathan aimed and pulled the trigger, firing one round after another. The first two missed completely, but the others hit the tree right above the target, making this Irisian panic and release his claws from the wood, only to welcome an ugly fall on the rocks below from several meters above the ground.
He took cover again immediately, but this time noise as if he was facing heavy rain under an umbrella struck his eardrums moments after he had taken cover, making him wince every time he heard the distinct noise of a projectile going through one wall of the tent and stopping the other.
With her tail still among his fingers, Nathan and Amara exchanged several anxious glances as the shooting persisted, only calming down when the rebels realized they were wasting ammunition and the barrage of fire slowly started to lose momentum.
Nathan's heart was racing and she was going through all tones of purple when she broke the silence.
"Fine!" She spoke fast. "If you are being so adamant about tying our fates together, we can do it your way." Her tail escaped his grip, but instead of pulling it back, she coiled it around his wrist. "But we are weaker together, Nathan. I will be a burden to you when you run, and you will be a burden to me when we hide."
"Oh, to hell with that too." Despite his harsh words, just knowing that they were on the same page now was enough to give him some hope. "Sorry. I do all the running and you do all the hiding, does that work for you?"
He didn't wait for her reply and loaded the gun again, this time doing it very fast even though his hands were still shaking.
"You do all the running? I fail to understand you." She said as she stood up to take a peek at the enemies, just to recoil in fear and add, "Explain yourself fast, they are losing the fear of your loud gun."
"Sure." He grasped his backpack bottom and overturned it, emptying its contents in a quick motion. With all the items on the ground, Nathan only took the MLBCS and the little box with his drones that he promptly stored in his pocket. "We won't need any of that, which means my back will be free."
"Are you crazy, I am too heavy f-"
"You're not." Nathan was 6′3″, and he had the nanites ensuring he was as healthy as a human could be. This meant that the short Amara—the top of her head only reaching a little below his shoulder—was not a challenging weight for him to carry given her slender body.
Noticing the doubt in her gaze, he lowered his body even more, turning his back towards her in a way it would be easy for her to climb, hoping this would be all the push she needed.
"You take pleasure in testing my trust, do you not?" The tone of her voice hinted at her reluctance, but she still draped her arms over his shoulder, securing her grip in a way her claws wouldn't hurt him.
Even though they had a plan now, Nathan still felt a chill down his spine at the thought of what he would have to do. And despite knowing that he had taken everything he needed, he anxiously patted down his pocket the make sure the box with the drones was there and remembered to take a handful of bullets, filling up his pockets as some of them fell to the ground.
"Ready?" He asked, trying to sound confident.
"See for yourself." Her tail wrapped around his belly, full of tiny black spots surrounded by purple as far as he could see.
Nathan took a few deep breaths and stood up, getting a glimpse of the many groups that were advancing from both sides, trying to surround them.
It didn't even take him a full second before he started firing his revolver indiscriminately at them while his legs moved on their own, not even waiting for his eyes to decide which path he would take.
Amara's weight escaped his thoughts completely, replaced by the fear evoked by the faint noise of metal breaking the sound barrier around them as soon they left the protection of the tent.
He didn't spare a single glance behind, running downhill at full throttle with bursts of adrenalin fueling his speed. He outran the reach of their guns quite fast, hurdling fallen brunches and putting not only distance but also several tree trunks between them and the hostile force behind.
With Amara's solid grip and occasional shifting of her weight to prove that she was fine, Nathan kept his pace as his muscles burned with exertion.
For a little over ten minutes he kept going, jumping over protruding roots and ducking beneath low-hanging branches. But this couldn't go on forever and eventually, he stopped to catch his breath, bending forward and letting go of items in his hand as Amara released her grip to stand on her own two feet.
His breath was coming in ragged bursts, but that didn't keep him from starting to laugh as he stared at her, whose eyes were gentle and her entire body was filled with hints of yellow.
In a split-second though, her whole demeanor changed, all the yellow giving way to purple and red.
She asked a single question, "Is that device of yours supposed to release smoke?"
The tip of her tail was pointing at the MLBCS, which now had a small hole in it from where a whisp of smoke curled upwards, just like a candle after its flame had been extinguished.
Nathan shook his head and touched his forehead; a single word left his mouth, "Fuck."

2024.05.22 02:55 UmbralikesOwls Making Bible verses and quotes on videos not related to God and Christianity

Ok so I do want to say I'm Christian. I'm not talking about videos that are related to Christianity, birth, or loss or anything like that. If you mention God in a video not related to Christianity (like saying "you need God/Jesus Christ", quoting one of the 10 commandments on something someone did illegally or something like that), then that's ok.
What I find annoying is watching a video that's completely unrelated to God or Christianity (ex: a cartoon, TV show, animatic, etc) and people just randomly come on and start writing essays of Bible verses. If it's a comment trend on YT and someone randomly comes in and writes a Bible verse, that honestly annoys me. It's ok if you want to spread word about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but not every single damn video needs your Bible verse comment.
Not everyone believes in God just like how not everyone believes something from other religion...or even if they're atheist. Not everyone who watches a video is looking to read a Bible verse in the comments

2024.05.22 02:50 Rich_Antelope7100 Lesser known facts about the OJ Simpson murder case

Denise Pilnak was a neighbor of Nicole’s. Her telephone bill shows she was on the phone from 10:25 PM and 10:28 PM. Prior to making this phone call, she and her friend noted how quiet the neighborhood was. Several minutes later between 10:33 and 10:35 PM, she testified that’s when she began to hear the sound of a barking dog, which is likely when the murders began. Allan Park testified to seeing OJ near the front door of the Rockingham estate at 10:55 PM, and his telephone records also document that. That leaves less than 25 minutes to commit the murders, drive back home, get rid of the evidence, etc.
Both Nicole and Ron had defensive wounds. Ron in particular was in hand to hand combat with whoever killed him, yet OJ had no injuries. The cut on his finger wasn’t seen by anyone who interacted with him at the airport, on the airplane ride to Chicago, nor when he immediately landed in Chicago. This includes people who got autographs from him, shook hands with him, and observed his hands. A broken glass was also found in his hotel room and it was documented he asked for a bandage at the hotel.
The FBI searched all of OJ’s and Nicole's credit card records and there was never any receipt found belonging to either of them that showed a purchase of Bruno Magli shoes. Every store that sold the shoes in the country was also searched, and they couldn't find anyone who sold him the shoes. The only proof of him owning them are the National Enquirer photos, which show him wearing suede shoes on a very rainy day. It was also found that the shoe soles that were said to be OJ's footprint were actually more popular than the prosecution maintained, the manufacturer sold the pattern to numerous shoe lines.
1.5 millimeters of OJ’s blood went missing from its vial. Thanos Peratis, the nurse who withdrew his blood, initially testified that he withdrew 8 millimeters. He took that back when only 6.5 appeared and the prosecution suggested he was mistaken. About a decade later he admitted to William Dear that he was certain he withdrew 8 millimeters because it was the amount he had drawn from patients all of his career, but he was close to retirement and had health problems so he didn’t want to cause any trouble.
The glove found at Bundy contained none of OJ’s DNA. The other glove found at Rockingham only contained his DNA in the area where Collin Yamauchi testified to spilling OJ's reference blood sample while handling it.
An identical knit cap matching the knit cap found lying on the ground next to one of the gloves was found in Nicole’s house. Those caps likely belonged to Sydney and Justin Simpson.
Two different people, John Meraz and William Blasini, encountered the Bronco at the lot where it had been impounded days after the murders. They both looked inside it for blood and testified they saw none. There was also only 1/8th of one drop of blood ever found inside it.
New York Times best selling author and journalist Stephen Singular was connected by an anonymous source within the LAPD about the case a few weeks after the murders. He was told Mark Fuhrman made an undocumented trip to Rockingham in the early morning hours after the murders looking for evidence that would incriminate OJ. Rosa Lopez, a housekeeper for OJ’s next door neighbor, testified to hearing men’s voices coming from the yard of Rockingham in the early morning.
The source told Singular that Fuhrman used a broken piece of fence from Bundy to pick up one of the two gloves found and placed it in a blue plastic bag. Next, he was told Fuhrman removed the glove from the plastic bag and planted it at Rockingham. A broken piece of fence was eventually found at Bundy and a blue plastic bag was found at Rockingham, and both were introduced as evidence in the trial.
He was also told EDTA would be found in some of the blood evidence if tested, lab technicians had mishandled OJ’s blood samples, vials of OJ’s, Nicole’s, and Ron's blood were in possession of an LAPD detective for several hours before being booked into evidence, and that Fuhrman had been acquainted with Nicole in some way.
Singular relayed this information from the source to the defense team and was in communication with them for awhile. Pretty much all of it checked out, including an investigation conducted by the LAPD's Internal Affairs Division which revealed that Fuhrman was overheard by other LAPD officers bragging about being intimate with Nicole and seeing her boob job before she was murdered.
There were 17 fingerprints lifted from the Bundy crime scene that didn’t belong to OJ or any of the police officers involved in the case.
Brett Cantor ran a nightclub called The Dragonfly where Ron worked for him as a waitepromoter. Nicole was also a regular at the club. He was murdered a year before them in almost exactly the same way, by being stabbed repeatedly in the upper body and being nearly decapitated. Judge Ito ruled the defense team could review his case. His murder remains unsolved.
Casimir Sucharski, a friend of OJ's, was murdered alongside two female companions in his house in Florida by people with machine guns two weeks after Ron and Nicole were murdered.
Michael Nigg was friends with Ron and also worked at the Mezzaluna restaurant. He was murdered a year later in 1995 by being shot in the head after refusing to give his money to two men outside an ATM. The men who shot him didn't end up taking his money. His murder remains unsolved.
Not saying these murders are necessarily related to each other but it does make you wonder since all of these people reportedly led similar lifestyles which involved the use of cocaine. Faye Resnick, a cocaine addict, was also living with Nicole just days before the murders.
If you listen to the full 1993 911 call, OJ was mostly yelling about drugs and hookers being in the house. When police officers responded to the call, Nicole told the responding officers that OJ hadn’t hit her in four years. After the 1989 domestic violence incident, OJ added an addendum to their prenuptial agreement which stated that if he struck Nicole again, she would‘ve been entitled to a settlement of more than 5 million dollars.
OJ wasn't scheduled to be in LA during that week. He had been busy working and made a last minute decision to come back for Sydney's recital. Video taken of him afterwards shows him in a good mood, kissing his kids and the Brown’s goodbye.
Christian Reichardt spoke with OJ on the phone an hour before the murders and testified his demeanor was jovial and not indicative of a simmering murderous rage.
His telephone records also show he made phone calls trying to set up dates with a few models, one of which he told he was unattached to anyone. If he was in a jealous rage over Nicole, why was he trying to date other women?
After the bodies were discovered, Sydney told the police she heard her mommy (Nicole) fighting & crying with her best friend (Faye Resnick) on the phone earlier that night.
Sydney was planning to have a sleepover that night with one of her friends. According to family and friends who attended the recital and dinner, OJ was aware of this. Committing a murder with all those extra witnesses and the possibility of having the kids hurt or things getting out of control, in addition to having a flight to catch, doesn’t make sense.

2024.05.22 02:42 Ok_Addition9520 Why Don’t I Care Like Normal People

Everything in my life has to do with if I give a shit or not and in most instances in my life I just don’t care. Anytime I talk to people I believe I care about I’m incredibly awkward. I just can’t interact with what they’re saying because I just don’t give a shit. I love them and wish them well, but I just can’t interact with anything they’re saying because it has nothing to do with me.
I usually don’t interact with anyone if not for the small Hey’s and Hi’s I give to everyone without really caring about what they say next. I just called my Dad because I didn’t interact with him today and felt worried, but during the whole call I could empathize with his busy day, but didn’t actually care about the convo after my question was answered. Anytime I notice this I try my hardest to interact with the conversation but I just can’t. I did genuinely ask how my dad was doing because I do care about his being and state of mind, but the second I know he is good for some reason I can’t care about the details. I love my parents, friends, siblings, etc, but I can’t express how I really feel or if I do feel anything at all. It’s like I don’t give a shit, but why go out my way talk to them if I don’t.
There has to be something wrong with me. Everyone can interact with anyone they want and have good, bad, or ugly conversation, but I don’t care about the conversation unless I have interest in it. Like am I not a fucking human being. I been fixing every aspect in my life just to get to this point of realization and I’m stumped. Why can’t I just be normal and live life the way I want. Whole shit probably explains why I can only make surface level friendships but not real friendships. No wonder I’m a virgin.

Mike Zeroh makes up fake quotes from Amandla Stenberg
I always knew Mike Zeroh was a clickbaiter and grifter but the fact that he literally makes up fake quotes that fit his narrative and presents them to his gullible audience like they are real just pisses me off. Because of him, people are going to hate on Amandla over something she never even said. I notice that he did the same thing to Lesly Headland. Completely made up quotes that he probably wrote himself.
I figured this out when I saw his latest video on Amandla Stenberg and decided to look up what she said on Google because it just didn’t sound like something she would say. Sure enough, there was absolutely nothing to find. This video is pure slander just like most of his videos. Something needs to be done about this.

2024.05.22 02:37 Watusimanu What is the current state of NYC Acting Conservatories?

Hello,
I've been trying to do endless research about potential acting conservatory programs in NYC to try and apply to for the fall, but it has been very tricky to find up to date information from people who have actually engaged in the programs. I feel like I've read every post and comment relating to the topic, and don't feel any closer to knowing what is best. It sounds like a lot has been changing, and you can't just rely on the 'name brand' of some of these places. I already have a bachelors, and want to have more experience before deciding to apply to MFA programs.
Right now my top picks are:
  1. Terry Knickerbocker - I've heard some pretty great things about him, he seems to have the most vocal supporters, but there are also a couple of naysayers saying he's potentially emotionally abusive? Out of all of the curriculums though, I like his the best. Since this seems to be a newer studio though, its really tricky to figure out what the reputation really is, and the fact that you can't audit at all is a bit scary. I like that he is closer to the source now that EspeFlanigan don't seem to teach.
  2. William Esper - This has been personally recommended to me, and I plan on reading his book soon to get a firmer grasp on what to expect, but some people also seem to think it has declined considerably since Esper died and Terry left. Any thoughts?
  3. Maggie Flannigan - Sounds like this place is pretty intense and professional, which I'm totally into, but I can't seem to get a good grasp on how it stacks up to the two above.
  4. T. Schreiber - The fact that its only a one year commitment is a bit of an easier pill to swallow, and that it draws from all the various methods.
  5. Stella Adler seems to have a decent rep? But there also seems to be some mixed opinions about the atmosphere, and I don't know if I'm ready for a 3 year commitment yet.
I've missed the deadline for Atlantic, though it seems well respected. I'm skeptical of Strasberg's teachings, though the program is logistically appealing. Seems like HB Studio puts you in the normal classes with hobbyists. I've heard that Barrow Group is a bit slow, and the one year program seems less focused on foundational craft and more on practical stuff (which I'm sure is great, just not what I'm looking for right now). Neighborhood Playhouse seems outdated, Circle in the Square doesn't seem to be very popular...
I would really love to hear any anecdotes about these programs! What have you heard, who do you recommend? What do you think will provoke the fastest growth? I've already reached out to a couple to get some more direct info, but I think I trust personal experience a tad more. Would it better to just seek out individual teachers in each subject instead?
Thank you so much for your help!!!

2024.05.22 02:29 Gazooonga Wayward III

Third Chapter! I'm having a blast writing this. If you enjoy it, then make sure to like it and give me any feedback you have. I'm grateful for all of it!
Prev First
I was cold, my feet hurt, and I felt even sicker than before. The boreal path stretched on for what seemed like an eternity, the pale sunlight having no effect on me due to the sense, misty fog. Every breath felt like ice, and I could see my breath in front of me, condensed and almost viscous.
I had been waking for at least an hour by now, following the path to wherever it led. This place couldn't be empty, right? There was a tomb built here, so that meant there had to be some kind of civilization nearby, or at least the remnants of it. Even if it was abandoned, I'd kill to have a roof over my head to sleep under.
I wanted to lay down and sleep, but I knew that if I didn't get warm soon I'd die of hypothermia, so I had to keep trudging on. Besides, I was in the deep wilderness, in this place that I knew nothing about, and I wasn't going to risk getting eaten by some wild animal, or worse.
So I trudged on. The sun rose further in the sky after what seemed like an eternity, and the fog cleared up a bit. Birds sang, trees rattled and shook from the wind, and the air became bearable. I still felt awful, but at least it wasn't frigid out anymore and I would feel better eventually. I wanted to sit down so badly, to find a way to start a fire and get some heat into my bones, but I kept going. I needed to keep going. I needed to know what the hell was going on, and I'd rather find some place to sleep that had a roof and even a bed if I was lucky.
I kept thinking while I walked, in an attempt to entertain myself over what seemed like an endless journey. Who was I? I didn't know who I was, or where I was from, or if I even had a name! All I knew is that I was in the body of this weird lizard… dragon… horned thing, and it felt all wrong. The forked tongue in my mouth felt too weird, I was taller than I thought I should have been, and I was definitely stronger than what a human should have been, if I was even a human before. I think that since I defaulted to assuming that my new strength was more than what a human would have instead of any other race, I must have been human before, right? What other races were there, anyway? What if there were only humans here and I was just a freak of nature?
What if I was the only person in this world? What if everything was gone? That couldn't be the case, right? That tomb implied there were people who had been alive at one point to build it. But they could all be dead now…
Okay, that was enough of me being alone with my thoughts. I decided that, if I was going to keep myself sane, I'd have to do something productive to distract myself from the implications of everything going on around me. It was time to consult the useless journal.
I pulled it out and opened it to the page where we had our last conversation, still irritated by how vague it could be. But I pushed that to the side as I pulled out the quill and began to concentrate as I wrote down a question. Where do I go?
Nothing happened for a moment, but eventually my hand moved on its own, scribbling down an answer in the same elegant cursive as before. Follow the path.
That isn't helpful. I wrote back, frustrated. There was another pause, then more furious scribbling.
You asked a question. I answered it. Be more specific next time.
You’re an asshole. I wrote down, snarling. This time, there was no response, nor was there any movement in my hand. The journal remained uncommunicative.
Why didn't you respond? I asked next, surprised that the journal had been silent. More scribbling followed.
I answer questions. Insults are not questions.
I became even angrier at that, knowing my words didn't really affect the journal. Why can't you be more helpful? I wrote down, just to see what the journal would say.
I am only truly helpful to those who are capable of helping themselves.
It took a moment for my emotions to register, but when they did they appeared as a burst of unbridled rage. With a draconic roar, I threw the journal at the closest tree, causing it to elicit a loud thwap as leather hit bark before it fell to the ground. I turned and stomped away, grumbling, just hoping to leave the journal there. Then I looked down and noticed it was in my hand again.
“Wha-” I began, before realizing that the journal was in perfect condition, not even a single scuff. I grit my teeth and slipped it back into my bag with a sigh before returning to my walk, hoping that I'd find something eventually.
After some time, I finally heard it: running water. That must have been a good thing, because villages were usually nestled along some kind of water source. Even if it was a small village, it must have been a safe place because people were living there, and there were enough people to keep the wilderness at bay.
I rushed up the hill and down the path towards the sound, avoiding tripping over roots and rocks before reaching my destination. The creek was a few yards wide and at least a yard deep, so nothing huge, but it was fresh water. I had nothing to store water in, but I had a skin of beer so I wasn't worried about that. What I was interested in was the dirt path beyond this point seemed less faded and more worn, as if it was used more often. Most exciting, however, was a signpost with a few pointed signs hanging from it. There were two, in fact, one pointing to the left of me and the other one forward still, crossing a beaten and rickety wooden bridge that spanned the creek. The sign that pointed left read Forsvolkvr, which was just utterly incomprehensible to me. The other sign has a simple carved framing around the edge, so it might've been a more important place, and it read Ljosavatnsskaro… who in the hell named a place Ljosavatnsskaro? I couldn't even pronounce that right.
Needless to say, I went with Forsvolkvr.
The path led further downhill, into a sparser woodland that seemed more welcoming, and in the distance I saw it: a tiny village of maybe a dozen long huts, with either clapboard or mudbrick walls and thatched roofs. They didn't have chimneys, but they did have little openings at the top that allowed smoke from hearths to escape. Some houses were a bit bigger than others, but all of them were no bigger than a single story tall. As I approached, I noticed that there were people, honest to God people. Humans walked about, wearing pretty ragged clothes but still people nonetheless! I didn't think I had ever been so excited to see another person before, but then I remembered that I didn't actually remember a time before, so that didn't really mean much.
Most of the people I saw from a distance seemed to wear old, stained, and patched clothes: leather trousers stitched together along with long wool shirts and not much else. Some wore hats or pelt cloaks, and all of the men had thick beards, but most seemed to be exceptionally poor. Along with a few barren fields, there were little more than a few sheep and some chickens roaming the stumpy hills and knolls, so beyond the bounty creek I didn't know how this village even sustained itself.
As I approached the entrance of the village, which was a rickety little gate with a sign that simply read Forsvolkvr, people began to notice me, and I could immediately tell that it wouldn't be a positive reception. The adults pushed children into their homes, some picked up hatchets, and a few more had weapons of their own, mostly simple spears and rounded shields painted all sorts of colors with runic designs. One man came riding up on a horse, sword drawn and chainmail gleaming in the sunlight. “Halt, dragon-spawn, how dare you approach this village.” He was a younger man, maybe in his mid to late twenties, with a short beard, baby blue eyes, and golden blonde hair. He wore similar clothes to those around him, albeit a little less dirty and worn, and had a bear fur mantle on his neck, along with a silver circlet with a single ruby in the center that seemed to serve as a lowly crown. “Your kind are not welcome here!”
Great, so I was a freak of nature. I was hoping I was simply just another race in this world, but I suppose I couldn't be that lucky, now could I?
“I'm just looking for a place to rest,” I shouted back, lowering my sword to appear less intimidating. “I simply want to know if you have a place for me to stay: I'm willing to pay.”
“Are you deaf, dragon spawn?” He shouted as he forced his horse to halt, “Get out or I'll slit open your belly and expose your guts to the crows!”
Well, that wasn't good. I was exhausted and ill, but not so much that I was eager to take a dirt nap. And even if I was in peak condition, I was sure I couldn't take on this entire village nor did I want to since massacring otherwise innocent people probably wouldn't be a great start to whatever mess I had gotten myself into. And I wasn’t exactly a master swordsman to begin with. Even though I defeated those undead, it still felt awkward to swing a sword. I was definitely a bit desensitized to violence, but not some kind of warrior. Having a sword doesn't make me a warrior.
I decided to cut my losses and head for Ljosavatnsskaro instead, since maybe the people there wouldn't want to kill me for having scales. But then the crowd began to spread out, making way for a lone figure, hunched over and wrapped in a dusty brown cloak, using a gnarled branch as a walking cane as he pushed himself forward. The crowd’s ire transformed into anxious murmurs as the man passed, not even sparing them a glance. The only one he looked at was the man on a horse, who's face became pale as milk when their eyes met, and when the ringleader was thoroughly cowed, so was the rest of the mob.
“Gone, back to your workings ye shall be,” he rasped, his voice like sandpaper on glass, “begone and allow me to see where others cannot.” As he hobbled past the horseman he waved his hand, sending the mob hurrying away and back to their daily lives, as if I had never appeared.
“Gothi Øbyiorn, you cannot intervene, this thing is an intruder!” the horseman shouted.
“This thing is a person with a name,” the old man said, who's name was apparently Gothi, “And he has humbly requested your patronage. You dare violate the laws of hospitality? Shame on you for insulting the gods so.”
“By the Stormcaster, he's a dragon-spawn! He'll bring damnation down on us all from above! The Stormcaster shall smite us for harboring him!”
Gothi merely shook his gnarled walking branch irritably and gave the horseman an ugly look. “Thorfast Iogæirsson! If you had paid any attention to my lessons when you were a child you'd know that the Stormcaster’s own brother was the father of dragons! They felled the Lord of giants together! Have you no shame in taking his name in vain?”
The horseman, Thorfast, seemed to blush from embarrassment and indignation at that. “Rhörldir betrayed his brother for the skythrone!”
“And then Inir forgave him after humbling him in battle with his spear, and Rhörldir stood by his side ever since,” Gothi spoke, “Yes, some dragons may be wicked and cling to godly grudges, but this young dragon-kin,” he put emphasis on the word kin as if spawn was some kind of slur, “has humbly requested shelter, and even offered to compensate, and you, as Høbding, should be the first to honor the rules of hospitality. Do not shame your late father with your foolishness by being so brash and bigoted towards those who seek you no harm, especially when your father's very own thane himself was of the dragon-kin.”
The horseman, Thorfast, seemed enraged at first, but something about the elderly hunchback seemed to inject some sense in him, because he sighed with disgust and inserted his blade back into his scabbard. “Come, Dragon-kin,” he spoke, as if the words were being forced from him at gunpoint, “I shall find you the accommodations you seek, but he warned: disrupt my village in any way and I'll impale you on a spike in front of my home.”

2024.05.22 02:29 Ambailey11807 A possible headliner one day

Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Most country stars bring lesser known up-and-coming artists out on tour with them to help these artists gain exposure. For example, I saw Tim McGraw a little over a week ago, and he had a brand-new artist named Landon Parker out on the road with him for a couple of shows. I never heard of Landon before, but he has a great voice and is a great performer.
The sad thing is, most people just go to see the headliner, and they don’t care about the opener. People don’t really think about the fact that these opening acts could one day be the next Morgan Wallen or Lainey Wilson. At one point, Morgan and Lainey were the opener playing for a quarter to half of the headliner’s crowd.
The way I see it is every artist starts at the bottom, and you never know who will make it to the top. Not everyone’s debut single will go to number one. Most of them won’t even chart, but it doesn’t mean an artist won’t become a star just because they don’t have immediate success, which is why we should support new artists.
Country legends such as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, and Patsy Cline all released debut singles that did not chart, but all of these artists became legends.
Thanks for reading. Please let me know who some of your favorite opening acts are that you have seen in concert. I’ll be back soon!

2024.05.22 02:20 CyanideLovesong Speculations on Klaus Schwab 'stepping back from executive role'

Klaus Schwab is 'stepping back from his executive role' in the WEF ( https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/21/world-economic-forum-davos-founder-klaus-schwab-to-step-back-from-executive-role.html )
He was used at the end of his position in a very strange way. All those terrible quotes and seeing him looking like an evil Darth Vader type... that was really strange.
I never could figure out how making WEF seem so villainous served their goals...
Now it's obvious they knew he could be used that way since he would be out before long anyway. But what was the point of it?
I've always speculated that the complete and total absurdity associated with everything related to "Covid" and the push for the vaccines was so they would target a very specific demographic:
Sorry, no one wants to hear that but if you think about it --- that was their target demographic. To anyone thinking and/or paying attention, they made it ridiculously obvious that those shots were a bad idea.
Here were some clues:
  1. Widespread censorship of citizen thoughts and opinions
  2. Widespread censorship (and worse) for people in the science/medical community
  3. Constant assertion of easily disprovable lies
  4. Insane & bizarre measures to coerce people
  5. Economic things that made no sense
  6. Sending sick people as young as 20 into nursing homes even though the hospitals had already been emptied (and then censoring anyone who showed others that the hospitals were empty)
  7. Blatantly exaggerating risk in obvious ways (testing only sick people in order to claim a high IFR)
  8. Pushing the PCR test to a whopping 45+ cycles (a test that will detect anything with a high enough cycle threshold)
  9. Making sure we knew that the people on the inside weren't following their own orders (elite/politicians had large unmasked parties, non-stop footage of authorities not wearing masks but pulling them up for the camera and off right after, etc., newscasters peddling fear vacationing maskless around crowded pools in Florida and other places that reopened or never shut down) etc.
  10. Pushing unhealthy lifestyles, division, and hate during a time we were supposedly in "the worst pandemic of our lives"
  11. Using expected deaths to trick people into thinking the death count was unexpectedly high. (~80 years ago began a massive global ~25 year baby boom. You can't have a baby boom without a death boom later on -- it's simple math. Anyone that explained this was shamed, censored, and banned.)
  12. Intentionally death protocols -- separating people from their families and then administrating medications that killed them
  13. Blocking treatments that appeared to work
  14. Encouraging people to go out in the streets and protest in crowds while simultaneously shaming others for stepping outdoors
  15. Arresting people for harmless activities, like walking their dog, being alone at a beach, or fishing at a pond, etc.
  16. Lying about the shots being "approved" when they never were, and when called on it they said, "Well the approved shots are the same as what's being given to people so that's good enough!" Without telling them that they would be excluded from the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program(!) ... And for the few who bothered to look it up, they claimed there was a "Countermeasures Program" to
  17. Bold, blatant lies, coverups, and censorship with regard to vaccine side efficacy, adverse events, and death.
I could go on and on... But if you were offended by my prior list, look through those 17 examples and just try to tell me the first list is wrong.
It's not. This is the sad truth no matter how upset it makes anyone. It is what it is, and we were all attacked from within by our own governments...
And there's something critical about the way Klaus Schwab intentionally played the part of a cartoon evil villain. They didn't cast him that way and dress him up like a Space Invader for nothing. That played a role in this psychological operation -- it's just hard to tell precisely what.
For those of us who pay attention, it will likely become clear later -- as most people (from the first list) are caught up in the next Current Thing. Those who haven't yet succumbed to the long term effects of what was done to them. One of the most profitable mass poisonings in history.
(You may have noticed Pfizer & Moderna heavily investing in treatments for cancer and heart problems. This is no coincidence.)
PS. For the coincidence theorists out there -- don't forget that in the court of law people are convicted based on 'coincidences' and 'circumstantial evidence' all the time. Here in California juries are ordered to treat circumstantial evidence on the same level as direct evidence. When a series of coincidences add up to form a pattern -- they aren't coincidences anymore. And we're WAY past that point now.
But will they ever be held accountable? No, the naive & weak who allowed (and even encouraged) them to do this would rather stand in their defense than to admit they were wrong and hold them accountable. And that is probably why they were targeted in the first place. "Useless eaters" as Klaus Schwab's right hand man called him. (Their words, not mine.)

2024.05.22 02:18 WestString1438 15F I overheard some people talking trash about my looks and I don't know how to get over it

I'm a freshman in high school. While I was in class I made a joke about something along the lines of me looking like a rat lol. Ig I was just trying to be funny and I don't mind my friends poking fun at me for my looks. But these girls that I don't really know were sitting a couple feet away, and I heard them start whispering and unironically agreeing.
I mean I know I'm really fucking ugly but it kind of hurt to hear other people say that and I can't stop thinking about it. I've always been really insecure about my appearance (to the point I have a list of plastic surgeries planned in advance) and I know it's not a huge deal but I don't know how to get over it. Any advice is appreciated.

2024.05.22 02:13 longerdistancethrow I hate how horrible the presence of pretty people makes me feel

Thats all.
They look great and are just genetically blessed(face-wise, I know working out helps a lot). Unless they have some form of trauma they get to be confident.
I have a gorgeous friend, she’s nice, friendly, funny and everyone loves her. She gets compliments for breathing. It's to the point where my boyfriend- unprompted said «What's up with that»
I was talking to a friend of mine whom we have in common, and he used to have a crush on her, he started talking about how «all the prettiest people are most insecure» and how this friend is «the most insecure in the friend group.»
This is bs. She is one of my closest friends, and yes, she has insecurities, but still knows that she’s pretty. She’s able to stand up for herself, has self-worth, and is generally confident. She can allow herself good things and feel confident in relationships with very very attractive people.
We have spoken about this honestly and openly, so it's not just me spouting shit.
I have discussed mine and her insecurities multiple times, and hers are shit like «my ankles are fat»
Why is my friend placing pity and weirdly victimizing her when she is quite obviously confident? Why is it suddenly a competition of which of the girls is more insecure??
Half the girls in our friend group have worked through eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia, verbal abuse from guardians regarding our weight, etc. «But oh pretty girl insecure and doesn't know she’s so beautiful.»
the only indication of this is that she doesn't like showing skin. She can wear tight clothes etc. When I asked he said «Oh cause you can wear a bikini» Yeah, cause after years of starving myself and then suddenly gaining 10kg and being miserable I decided that I’d do my best to fucking ignore the fact I'm ugly as shit and have fun doing things with people I like instead. Doesn't mean I’m not crying when I see a picture of me from that day later on cause I hate it that much.
I’m jealous, I know that I’m salty af, and that's something I have to work on, obviously. But it just makes it worse.
Pretty people get to be pretty, beloved, complimented, and pitied, they always win, assumed best, and are confident, and because they're confident they’re often not jealous assholes like me.
Pretty people directly have a negative impact on me, and I know I should build myself up and get stronger and better, but its hard to get any better, when I see that I am always treated like trash compared to people like that.
Advice is welcome, but this is just a rant so…
(Yes, I’m another insecure woman hahah, so funny).

2024.05.22 02:12 mentallytortured1 Ignored Again At Group Therapy Place

Whenever I share something or comment to a question the group therapist asks the class, the therapist barely asks me any questions or talks to me unlike the other people. But the bigger problem is that the group is completely silent to my comments unlike other people where they respond to each other's comments and ask questions. After a brief moment of silence they simply start talking about themselves to each other and the therapists focus on them. This proves that people are completely disinterested in me and hate talking to me because of my face, since it has been this way from the beginning and has nothing to do with my behavior. I wonder why it's impossible for ugly people to be accepted when all kinds of mentally ill and disabled people are accepted. It's extremely unfair and the even more brutal part is if I had not gotten cosmetic surgery I would have been acknowledged or accepted more, not completely since I was still ugly. But it would not be as uncomfortable for me and other people.

2024.05.22 02:12 matt4anom Help please (Sensitive Topic)

Hi everyone. I'm a 20yo Christian guy. I'm thinking about trying suicide again on my birthday, since I tried it twice years ago.
I was diagnosed with depression in 2020, but I was feeling the symptoms since years ago. I'll resume my situation...
I've always been Christian since young, I was a really happy kidder and smart child (that's what people says) but everything changed as I was reaching adolescence. I was bad treated several times in my childhood by people at school and also from my family, they called me fat, megamind, whale, and they even called me Satan. School was a nightmare, bcs it was every single day ppl giving me names and treating me poorly. So I just started to hide myself in the principals office so nobody would bully me, and it worked.
I'm a super ugly guy, a horrendous and filthy face and body. Short and unproportional, like an anomaly. And no talent, like zero potential for anything. I feel like God was cruel to me, He gave me that trash body and no talent to compensate. I feel like He wanna use me as an example, but I don't want this. I don't wanna be the 'super ugly guy testimony', it's shameful.
There's not a single day I don't hate my appearance, and that's been taking me to dark places and demonic thoughts. I used to harm myself and I'm considerating going back to it, sometimes I even wanna set myself on fire to destroy this body. I wish I didn't exist, I'm a failure. When I was a kid I was hopeful, I thought I'd grow and become a tall handsome man, it didn't happen. I was wondering taking singing lessons bcs I love music and sometimes I think of myself singing, but my voice is horrendous and I don't have the talent.
All my dreams were crushed in front of me. I don't know what to do, I don't wanna pray the same thing forever and see no results... I prayed to be tall, to look good, to find my talents and it never happened. I know I'm a disgraceful sinner and have this addiction that I can't get release from, but I still a human being that wanna feel loved for God. And that's the last thing I've been feeling nowadays... sometimes I feel like I'm starting to hate God, and I don't want that because I'm afraid of God trying to harm me. I know He doesn't own me anything, but still hurts. I barely read the Bible cause I don't feel it's gonna help, I only pray at the end of the night but I got to church.
Please, what should I do? I'm sorry for breaking the harmony of this sub but I'm trying everything at this point.

2024.05.22 02:08 kimvette This is not about work

I want to stress that this is not about work. It's about a stupid gaming club.
First, I'm detoxing from Facebook; here I can tailor my news feed more so I am not innundated with Maganazi stuff.
Second, the thing is:
You can't fire someone who quit and you invited back but they were stalling and waiting for you to hold up your end of the bargain, and to cut out the snide, condescending shit. You're not convincing anyone to come back with that when you haven't addressed the underlying issue. You thought you were testing me. You were wrong. January I was testing the org, and the org failed, and it was a continuation of a pattern.
Third, once I was reminded I quit, and cannot be fired, and that whether or not Trump and the Maganazi wins in November, all the stress, hurt, and sadness was gone. When I was a Christian I practiced "No one steals my joy." Although I am now an athiest, because I see no evidence on the part of evangelicals that they even believe in the god they profess (the evidence Jeebus promised believers would show is love for their neighbor), I will continue to keep an open mind, and I will let no one steal my joy.
I'm sticking to my committment to stay off of Facebook as a general rule until July, or sometime in July, just to get a good long break from Maganazi bullshit, but know this if you're stalking me, and I know you are:
I admit, you get me down for a few months, but I remembered I quit, you invited me back and I hadn't yet accepted because you did none of your agreed parts, and added snideness and condescension to it, and I did flinch and let it get me down. No more. Fuck off, because I have my joy back and I rest knowing that although I said things in a way I regretted, I do not regret what I said, but only how I said it.
I gave a lot, but was always treated as an outsider. You know, in your heart of hearts, that this is absolutely ttrue. Especially you - the micromanaging one I thought was a friend - especially you because I had expressed concerns and pain last Autumn and last summer. There is a bias, and I regret giving and donating so much, and being one of the people who kept things somewhat active through covid, and being one of the givers rather than one of the takers. The mark of a leader is a servant attitude, and is why I was such a successful team lead that after I went whistle-blower, half or more of my team followed me. I know I am a good leader buy I also don't shy away from calling bullshit. We had conversations about the bias, and you never even tried to see it. I was always an outsider and shame on me for putting sp much in. I wanted to play at the highest levels and my skills have only improved since, but I won't deal with that bias from an allegedly-inclusive club
The ongoing culture war in the real world is more than enough to be pained. I wanted the game to be an escape from being collateral damage innthe anti-trans culture war. I initially thought it was because I was a newbie pre-covid, but since have realized there is a definite bias because amab intersex and trans people don't stick around past a few sessions so it isn't imagined, and it really didn't get better last season. Which leads us to:
The thing in January preceding my quitting was a litmus test. if we were on better terms I'd explain to you yet again, but you're unwilling to listen, in your hubris, and my favorite quote aside, there is no point in talking to a wall. Keep talking when both sides are willing to not just listen, but to hear. You made it clear you will not hear.
You were another brick in the wall, but I am tearing the wall back down. I'm not going back behind an emotional wall after all; i got the joy back that you tried to rob me of.
Remember, you invited me back. You can't fire someone who quit your game, and your games.
