6K Open Gate 3:2 Anamorphic on S5II
2024.05.21 02:27 SeaRefractor 6K Open Gate 3:2 Anamorphic on S5II
Lumix S5II event recording setup I've owned and used the OG Lumix S5 for several years now and have really appreciated those camera bodies for amazing capabilities at a very reasonable price. Recently I had the opportunity to pickup a second hand S5II (with RAW license key activated) for a very low price. To rig for the S5II, didn't really require much change outside of purchasing a Nitze S5II cage (dimensions are different than the OG S5). Originally when working with Anamorphic lenses, I had to strike a compromise that would result in needing to crop the resulting image to get 2.4:1 as the resulting frame. With the new S5II, I could record in 6K 30P 3:2 and not require any cropping in DaVinci Resolve Studio for a 2.4:1 frame. I only needed to edit the "clip attributes" and select a custom aspect ratio of 1.6. I did have some lessons learned. And some interesting surprises that might be unique for my own situation but may be useful information for others that already own an S5II and some of the same gear I also own. 1. External HDMI output is limited to 1080P 30P when using 6K Open Gate 3:2. Not sure what the limitation here is (Lumix, Atomos or HDMI specification), but the HDMI port can only output up to C4K 60P 10-bit non-RAW. Any resolution (again non-RAW) above that will have the HDMI port show an equivalent UHD (1080P) display for external monitors. Those that have the RAW license key or an S5IIX will have HDMI 12-bit RAW output for 5.9K, 4.1K and 3.5K. The UHD display as an external monitor is still useful to assist in the resulting de-squeeze as the Ninja with AtomOS 11 has a 1.6x de-squeeze option, the Lumix S5II is close but not exact with a 1.5x de-squeeze. The ability to use the magnification selections for improved manual focusing is also much appreciated. Ninja as monitor, zoom handy for manual focusing 2. 6K Open Gate 3:2 30P is LongGOP 200Mbps on both the S5II and S5IIX bodies. An interesting thing to note is that even with an external SSD, it appears the 6K Open Gate 3:2 (5952x3968 10-bit 4:2:0 LongGOP 200Mbps) is the same on both bodies. However, the ability to record All-I (internally) as well as ProRes HQ to external USB-C SSD cannot be understated for the S5IIX. Fortunately, I own several Atomos Ninjas along with the companion Atomos Connect modules. While I'm restricted to LongGOP 200Mbps for all resolutions in-camera, I am able to record ProRes 422 HQ and also ProRes RAW to my external recorders. Those that already have an existing investment in Atomos equipment will also have the benefit of all "non-RAW" recording modes up to and including C4K 60P 10-bit 4:2:2. The extra $200 RAW license key would be required for the RAW recordings at 5.9K, 4.1K and 3.5K 12-bit RAW modes. If you are not purchasing used and it happens to include the RAW license key already activated, it makes more sense to pay the extra for the S5IIX as the difference is about $200. 3. Frame.io and Proxies is also available on the S5II with Firmware v3.0 and newer. This is a fantastic feature! Very happy that Lumix extended this to the S5II as well as the S5IIX. I'd primarily been using the Atomos Ninja/Atomos Connect setups for Frame.io and proxies. Now I can leave the Ninja's behind if I need to save some weight during travel. That said, I do have much more Camera-to-Cloud capabilities with the Atomos Connect than even the S5IIX can bring to the table. This also includes NDI HX2 TX and RX and SRT streaming beyond the standard RTMP/RTMPS IP streaming. The Atomos Connects are also WiFi 6 (6E with the Ninja Ultra) and have ethernet built-in without requiring an adapter that would prevent a USB-C SSD from being connected. 4. Lumix, even after years of requests, has yet to add 1.6x de-squeeze to the Lumix S series. Come on Lumix! The Sirui lenses are extremely popular and it's odd that 1.6x has yet to be added. Should be enough memory space in the firmware to add that option. With 1.6x added, I'd have even less need for an external monitor. 5. Would be great of Panasonic and Atomos could develop an Anamorphic RAW mode that is 3:2 in aspect ratio. The 3.5K 4:3 is close but still not ideal. A 3:2 RAW mode would be incredible and provide value for Lumix S5IIX owners in possibly purchasing an Atomos Ninja. As it's much less expensive to purchase a simple HDMI monitor and external SSD drive, a true 3:2 ProRes RAW mode would bring value again to the external recorder series for many. I'm sure that those that use a Blackmagic Design Video Assist would soon see a BRAW equivalent if that mode were possible. submitted by SeaRefractor to LumixS5 [link] [comments]

2024.05.20 10:57 bboru2000 Panasonic PT-EZ770 Outdoors-should I worry?
I just picked up the Panasonic projector as an upgrade to our little EPSON 705HD. The jump in brightness is fantastic (although it's a beast compared to the tiny EPSON). We always used the EPSON for outdoor movie nights with no problem, but reviewing the manual for the Panasonic, one of the first things it says it not to set it up outdoors. I'm sure it's a standard warning to avoid getting it wet from rain, but should I worry about condensation as the night air cools and settles on the warm projector? I got a great price on the Panasonic (actually cheaper than the EPSON brand new!), but I'd like to take care of it.

2024.05.20 05:31 VIVXPrefix Fisher FVH-515 from estate sale
Found this down the block in an old house that was having an estate sale. The people who lived there were very old and everything item in there was old. Upstairs they had a Realistic VCR from the 90s, but when I went in the basement I found this Fisher FVH-515, complete with manual, remote, and all the analog TV cabling. I believe it's from 1980 or 81. I'm going to see if I have what it takes to get this working. From what I understand, Fishers are pretty rare. This one's exterior and display are in great condition. The drive belts are hard as a rock and one is cracked. I'm waiting for replacements to come in. The grease in the loading mechanism was dry so it wouldn't raise on its own or latch very easily. A quick cleaning and relube has fixed that. Once the belts are in, I can start trying to figure out what else needs to be fixed. I'm sure it's going to need a lot. The people running the sale told me they don't think this one was turned on for over 20 years. submitted by VIVXPrefix to VHS [link] [comments]

2024.05.20 03:19 hotmomsimmyarea batteries that work for the cybershot DSC-W1??
So i thrifted this camera a while ago and really want to use it to take pictures this summer but i can’t find any batteries that actually work for it. The panasonic batteries got it to turn on in set up mode but weren’t strong enough to power the camera in picture mode. I found the manual online and found out it needed NiMH rechargeable batteries. I went on amazon and ordered some but they weren’t strong enough to get the camera to turn on at all. I looked online and found threads from 2004-2007 with similar issues but the consensus was just to buy different, more powerful rechargeable batteries. But rechargeable batteries are expensive! so i don’t want to keep buying more just for them to not work again. Does anyone have any SPECIFIC rechargeable batteries that actually work for this camera? the photo above shows the ones i’ve already tried submitted by hotmomsimmyarea to Cameras [link] [comments]

I found a sealed video head cleaning cassette at a garage sale, and wanted to try it on a tv/VCR combo. It's the dry kind. I would normally just clean the head manually, but didn't want to take everything out of the tv to do it. Some people say cleaning tapes are bad for VCRs.

2024.05.19 15:50 souvikdgp Help to improve performance of my system with Davinci Resolve
Hello,
I'm a amateur videographer shoot mainly stage performances. I use Panasonic S5 IIX with v-log and manual focus. Last time I couldn't nail the focus on dancers. So the output wasn't as I was expecting.
After a bit of googling I found that using 2x enhancer might fix the issue and it did. It really shapern the quality to my satisfaction. I'm using Davinci Resolve Studio version 18.6.
However, the rendering took almost 2 days. I was rendering 4k wth 30fps in mov format with best quality settings. The original footage was also 4k, timeline was 1080p.
I have applied little noise reduction, color space transformation and some very basic color grading. The total length of the video was about 2+ hrs.
My machine is as below: I9 11900 (non-k), 64 gb RAM, RTX 3070 (8gb VRAM), Windows
I want to improve the rendering performance of my machine. 2days was a bit too much for me.
Any help how can we improve? Machine wise and/or process wise.

2024.05.19 15:33 JULITEU A lens for vlogging
https://preview.redd.it/cdo25t03yd1d1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=cffe38ac417f2e218e4049227f357b36bf0e9167 I'm looking for a good wide lens for vlogging at an affordable price. I like fixed focal lengths and this would allow me to film in low light conditions. I'm hesitating between several focal lengths: the 15mm f1.7 from panasonic (a bit too expensive), the 7.5mm from laowa, the sigma 16mm f1.4 (but a bit too big and heavy) the 12mm f.2 from olympus, but the one that intrigues me the most is the 12mm f2 from samyang, everyone seems to say good things about it and yet it costs a lot less than the olympus. I wonder if it will be good for vlogging, (the manual focus and manual aperture are not a problem for me). Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, all comments are welcome! And if you have any recommendations for other lenses, I'd love to hear from you! submitted by JULITEU to GH5 [link] [comments]

2024.05.19 02:47 alpinepancake11 VCR Only Plays a Tape's Volume in Menu Settings, No Picture
Hello! I have a quick question.
My VCR has been playing fine and is 28 years old. Not too long ago, I put in a bad tape by mistake (fuzzy off and on but volume was great) and we had to take it out manually and carefully. I am unsure if this was the cause of the issues now, but I put in a recorded tape that fizzled out during a movie a few nights ago and I have not had picture on it since. It ejected fine and nothing looked like an issue internally on the tape. I tried putting in other tapes that I know work and nothing puts the picture back in. It switches from SP to EP, or vice versa, and I can't switch them back. I put it into menu settings and the volume plays great like it is playing regularly.
Adjusting the tracking does nothing except switch channels and I cleaned the heads with a cleaning tape. Is there anything else I can try? Do I need to undo and reattach the cables in the back?
Thank you so dearly!

2024.05.18 09:42 Agitated_Sand3735 Need help identifying cause of a problem on my JVC KD-V6
I recently picked up this deck off ebay, the seller listed two problems 1. the belts need to be replaced which was easy enough, and 2. "low volume output." Now, from just that I had assumed that it was just like a little quiet or something, but no, it really is almost completely inaudible. The only way I could hear my tape was by plugging the output into my pc and recording it on audacity. With the deck set to max output volume, the highest peak I saw on the audacity vu meter was around -55 decibels (3 times lower than the vu meter on the deck itself can go).
It doesn't look like an problem with the output jacks themselves, as the issue is the same whether I use the line out or headphone jacks, so I'm assuming it has something to do with a broken or worn out component on the motherboard or something with the playhead itself.
First I looked at the playhead closer and noticed some weird residue/film on it that can't be cleaned with alcohol and cotton swabs, however I talked to some guy who has the same (perfectly working) deck as me and his playhead has around the same amount of whatever the gunk is on it so I don't think it's that. In the second picture in the link, you'll also see there's some what looks to be water stains inside of the cassette slot? Obviously from that there could be some water damage or something to the playhead, but the erase and record head seem to work fine so I'm not sure if that would be the issue either.
On the main board, the play head equalizer VRs do seem to work and If I turn them to max its just slightly louder, so I'm thinking its something before that. The only thing before that in the circuit is the pre amp IC, the resistors and what not surrounding it and the play head. I've tested all the resistors and other small components like that that are connected to the traces that actually carry sound (from looking at the schematics in the service manual) and they all seem fine. I've got no idea how to go about testing or what testing equipment to use on the pre amp IC nor the playhead individually. Apparently I'm too stupid to fully grasp what the IC does or how it works with the components around from looking at the data sheet (the IC is a Panasonic AN6557 if that helps any) and I don't got any clue as to how the playhead works either.
If needed, i can provide more information or answer questions. So, if anyone thats worked on a problem like this before happens to any idea of what might be wrong, some pointers or advice would be very highly appreciated.

2024.05.17 23:02 new_tanker Advice needed... Panasonic HC-X2000 & Manual Focus/Infinity
I'm at a loss for words here.
A couple months ago I purchased a Panasonic HC-X2000 and today I got to put it to use with my typical subject matter - high speed aircraft.
I've used Sony cameras before and every time I film aircraft, I set my focus to manual focus all the way out to infinity. It's never been an issue.
Today, I filmed like I normally do. Set the camera to focus to infinity, and everything looks good in the eyepiece. I go look at the files, and when I'm fully zoomed in on the subject (again, high speed aircraft, no matter if they're going 100 mph or 700 mph) the picture is not sharp. If I zoomed out a bit or the aircraft is closer to me (or both for that matter) the picture quality is good.
Any suggestions? I was always under the impression that with manual focus on infinity the picture quality would always be good.

2024.05.17 10:08 Orion484 Old Shoebox Cassette Recorder as a Tape Eraser?
Hello
So I have just recently started to get into cassettes and I’m keen to start making more of my own recordings.
At the moment though, my setup is still quite basic – I don’t yet have a ‘proper’ tape deck. This will be something I look into in the future (and have already started researching), but for the moment, I just want to play around with what I currently have and see if I can properly get into this as a hobby.
I have a Panasonic RX-FT530 boombox which is in excellent condition. This unit has a Line-In port, so I can easily use this unit with my laptop to create mix tapes. The downside though is this boombox only has a permanent erase magnet. I completely appreciate this setup will never do high quality recordings, and is even worse when using a used cassette (as I have discovered already – noisy noisy!).
I have recently found a Panasonic shoebox type cassette recorder being sold really cheap and in good working order (model no. is RQ-2106). I realise this is a mono device (with very low frequency response range) that will never create good recordings, however, after looking up the manual, I’ve discovered it does at least have a proper erase head.
So my question is, provided I disconnected the internal microphone, could this unit make for a good tape eraser in the interim until I can invest in a proper deck?
