2024.05.22 02:21 JBelizzle Rookie mistakes wasting money...

TLDR: I didn't know what I didn't know, and wasted money on gear I should never have bought'; 1 10' hammock and a terribly shaped underquilt.
I was going to go hammock camping last year in a cheap 9' hammock I had gotten for $10 years before and never used, but decided to try it in my backyard before I went out. It was super uncomfortable, cold, and I got eaten alive by mosquitos.
Digging around online (and probably on this subreddit) told me I needed a longer hammock, an underquilt, and a bugnet. I ended up buying the Pathfinder Jungle Hammock with built-in bugnet and a OneTigris underquilt.
The underquilt was awful from the beginning. It tapers heavily toward the ends and has a split to keep it centered on the hammock, more or less forcing you to sleep centered in the hammock rather than at an angle. Even trying to fight the rigging, it was never comfortable to use and was a complete waste of $45.
I thought the hammock was fine, and I slept significantly better in it than I ever have in a tent, so I considered hammock camping a huge success. After learning the wonder of sleeping in a hammock, I bought a Brazillian-style cotton hammock to hang in my bedroom and have slept in that a night or two a week for months (it would be full time, but my wife likes sharing a bed).
So tonight, when I got some new hammock straps to try out, I hung that camping hammock up and it was terrible. At first I thought it was the hang, and I kept trying to adjust it, but I just felt squished. Then I thought to check and the hammock is only a 10' hammock. Heck, even the 11' one I use in my bedroom is a little too short for me and I honestly wish I had bought a longer one for my room (I'm just over 6' tall).
So now, of the $100 or so that I spent on a hammock camping setup, it was basically all a waste.

2024.05.22 02:21 FlipTastic_DisneyFan Would it be weird to write this in a thank-you note?

I have a teacher of two years whom I’ve created a very strong bond with. I’m not going to take time explaining why, but he means the world to me. So I wrote a thank-you card that’s about a page long, and I mentioned a couple of things that I’m worried might weird him out. They include:
1: That he is my so-called father figure, or a male role model I can look up to
2: Something along the lines of: “I love you, in a way. As a mentor, obviously, not in a weird way.”
Honestly the majority of the note is just expressing how much he means to me. So, teachers of Reddit, do you think telling him this would be too much? And if you were to receive a similar message, how would you take it?

2024.05.22 02:21 GenericThrowaway59 Differences between Wellbutrin and Sertraline?

I used Sertraline two years ago for about 3 weeks, but had to quit because the side effects were unbearable. My doctor recommended I try Voxra (same as Wellbutrin but different brand name in Sweden), but I'm really scared because I don't want to have suicidal thoughts again, and panic attacks. I'm also afraid of getting erectile dysfunction, which seems to have happened to a lot of men who used antidepressants.

2024.05.22 02:19 JayDuBois Fuuu… (racial trigger warning featuring Joe Kagan)

Like many of us this exchange between the two Olsen’s was severely truncated, or completely cut out of what are known as the TBS edits.
I thought I had seen every speck of film known to the public regarding little house. I did not know this dialogue existed. She was already extremely racist 2 1/2 notches below Larrabee. Now after this language, I see how different things were in the 70s and 80s on television. And it’s not just this one line of dialogue either. Nelly gets in on it as well.
Do you think this exchange could happen today in prime time?

2024.05.22 02:18 cackitycack How often do you text/ check in with your FWB/ casual partner(s)?

I’ve been casually dating this man for about two months now and it’s going great. However, we both have busy schedules and live 2 hours away so we’re not able to see each other as frequently as we’d like (hence the casual nature of our relationship).
If we text each other at all, it’s either to make or confirm plans to meet up, or to sext. Both of us initiate equally as often.
I do kind of want to start texting him more regularly, but I don’t want him to think I’m coming on too strong. I’m very happy with the way we sext and was thinking I’d start doing that more frequently, but I also don’t want him to think I’m only interested in him for sex.
I wonder what a good balance would be. Should I just start texting him every day myself, asking how he’s doing etc or would that make me come across as wanting more out of this relationship? In the past, I’ve only ever regularly texted men I’ve been serious about or really like a lot.
How do you guys do it? How often do you see your FWB, how often do you text/ call etc and how do you divide your time if you have more than one casual partner (for those who are poly)?

Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained interviews part 2: Shinichiro Shirakura (Producer) and Ryuuta Tasaki (Director)
Part 1: Kento Handa (Takumi Inui) and Yuria Haga (Mari Sonoda)
https://preview.redd.it/fafa1xy6bv1d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a66307c652ce75d4cbf4e46dfae53e0b7ea4ee9
First of all, could you tell us about the background behind the planning of Kamen Rider 555?
Shirakura: Until the previous work, Kamen Rider Ryuki, I didn't think that the Kamen Rider series would continue as it has now. Following Moero!! Robocon, we aired Kamen Rider Kuuga and Kamen Rider Agito, but that time slot was originally the broadcast time slot for Metal Heroes. So at the time, I was thinking "we'll continue Kamen Rider for at least one more series, and then go back to Metal Heroes or Kabutack-type series". However, Ryuki became a hit, and I thought "maybe we should continue the Kamen Rider series in the future", so we created 555. So, with a focus on going back to basics, we set up a modern enemy organization called Smart Brain to replace Shocker, and the Kamen Rider side also became centered around "a very strong single protagonist".
Tasaki: It's true that at the time, I had a feeling that "this series will probably continue", something I hadn't felt up until Ryuki.
I think 555 had many aspects that set the standard for subsequent works, such as the close-up action direction of the item's gimmick.
Tasaki: 555 feels like a further evolution of Ryuki's directing of (focusing the camera on) setting the card and unleashing the special move.
Shirakura: It feels good to see the process of replacing the Mission Memory every time. I think that's a clever piece of direction.
How did you come up with the idea of creating a drama that transcends the good and evil with the three Kamen Riders and the three Orphnochs?
Shirakura: During a discussion with (Toshiki) Inoue-dai-sensei about "returning to basics", he said it was common knowledge that "the original first Kamen Rider was originally one of the Shocker monsters, but that isn't really portrayed in the series". He felt that the relationship between the many Shocker monsters and Kamen Rider, who's a grasshopper man, should've been depicted more in the drama. However, when Dai-sensei said "I'm going to write three Orphnochs as the other main characters", I thought "Are you sure you can do that?" (laughs)
Tasaki: Agito and Ryuki didn't really depict the story of kaijin, they were simply treated as monsters. Therefore, 555, which depicts the story of the monster side, was breaking new ground, and I personally looked forward to each script written by Inoue-san.
In the second half of 555, it was revealed that Takumi Inui was also an Orphnoch.
Tasaki: The first time we revealed this was in Kamen Rider 555: Paradise Lost, but the scene where Takumi transforms into the Wolf Orphnoch elicited actual screams of surprise from the audience. Even though the first Kamen Rider was also a cyborg of Shocker. I felt that the basics of Kamen Rider were forgotten because of the illusion that "justice is right and evil is wrong".
Shirakura: It was decided from the beginning that Takumi would be an Orphnoch, and hints were shown many times in the series from around the time Keitarou appeared. We made basic settings such as "only Orphnochs can use the (Faiz) transformation belt", and from my point of view, I was thinking "is it okay to spoil things like this?". But the people watching at the time didn't seem to notice much. Even in an interview back then, when I said "it was decided from the start", people didn't believe me and were asking me "Are you sure?" (laughs)
Tasaki: We were actually surprised that people were so surprised (laughs).
A large number of fans also participated as extras in Paradise Lost.
Shirakura: We decided that with 10,000 people, we could fill Saitama Super Arena, so we recruited extras from the general public. Before 555, we had to send round-trip postcards to apply for extras, but if we had to collect such a large number of extras, it would have taken a huge amount of money to send back the replies. But around the time of 555, I realized that I could use the Internet for recruitment. However, at that time there were no cloud servers like there are today, so we built our own powerful server within Toei.
Tasaki: The server often went down every time the broadcast ended, so I thought it would be difficult if there were a flood of applications.
Shirakura: We received over 90,000 applications and 11,000 people participated, despite the harsh condition of "9-hour endurance filming". Since that many people would gather at Saitama Super Arena, we went around to the nearby shops and other places to say hello in advance. We even asked JR (Japan Railways Group) if they could increase the number of trains, but they turned down the extra service (laughs).
Wasn't it difficult to shoot with such a large number of people?
Shirakura: We shot scenes that required a large number of people in the morning, assuming that some people might not be able to endure the long filming or might get bored and leave halfway through the shoot. However, most of them stayed until the end.
Tasaki: I think the announcement that there would be a greeting from the cast at the end was also effective. During filming, we had two cameramen enter the audience seats and take documentary-style shots of the extras' expressions. The result was an uplifting video reminiscent of the documentary film Festival of Nations about the Berlin Olympics.
The final episode of the TV series ended with the King of Orphnoch not completely destroyed, and a development that hinted at Takumi's death. Was this flow decided from the beginning?
Shirakura: It was decided from the beginning that Takumi would be an Orphnoch, so I didn't think of an ending where he would "wipe out the Orphnochs and everyone is happy". I think that in Dai-sensei's mind, the moment the character Keitarou Kikuchi was born, he was determined to make him the goal (of the story). Keitarou is an ordinary person among the Kamen Rider heroes, the heroine Mari, and the three Orphnochs. Depicting the story of "the most ordinary person being the greatest" with such depth that it's like completely devoid of mediocrity is Dai-sensei's aesthetic, and what makes him amazing.
In this issue, we also spoke to Kento Handa and Yuria Haga. What were your impressions of them back then?
Shirakura: Handa-kun was only 18 years old at the time, but he already was very dignified. Before filming started, he was still living in Kobe, so he came to Shinjuku and we met. As we walked through the streets of Shinjuku, he explained to me "That's the ○○ Building, and that's the XX Building, and it has such a history". When I asked him "You know a lot, have you already been here many times?", he replied "this is my first time in Shinjuku", which surprised me (laughs). Even back then, I was a huge building fanatic.
Tasaki: Yuria-chan has a huge fear of heights, and she was also afraid of going up to places even a little high. I remember it very well because I have never seen anyone else so afraid of heights.
Both of them said "Back then, Director Tasaki didn't get mad at us".
Tasaki: I certainly don't remember being angry at them. But the reason they don't think they've been scolded is because that time Go Ayano (Aki Sawada/Spider Orphnoch) was scolded by director (Hidenori) Ishida has become so famous that they probably were simply thinking "we're not getting scolded that much" (laughs).
Shirakura: In order to train his actors, Ishida-san is acting like he is "flying into a rage" in a very easy-to-understand way. But Director Tasaki doesn't get angry easily, so maybe they just didn't notice (laughs). In fact, when Director Tasaki's language becomes more polite on set, it's proof that he's angry. Something like "the director is ending his sentences with -desu! He's infuriated!!!" (laughs).
Tasaki: They were still teenagers at the time, so there was no point in getting angry at them. But I often got angry at (Mitsuru) Karahashi (Naoya Kaido). He's the type of person who wants to be scolded (laughs).
Toshiki Inoue also appeared in the final episode as a construction site supervisor.
Tasaki: He had an aura that ordinary people don't have, and he was good at acting. But we've had to do several retakes. When he appeared on Avatarou Sentai Donbrothers, he talked about his memories of appearing on 555.
Shirakura: He said "It's tough being an actor because you have to wait a long time" (laughs). He also said "Directors are on set longer than that, so you'd get even more bored, right?", so if he hadn't had that experience on set back then, he might have said "I want to be a director, too!" one day (laughs).
Now, let me ask you about the new work Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained. What was the background behind this project?
Shirakura: It all started when I heard that Handa-kun, Haga-san, and (Kouhei) Murakami-kun wanted to do it. If they wanted to do it, there was no doubt that they would appear. What's more, Director Tasaki and Dai-sensei were both working on Donbrothers, so I didn't have to gather all the staff (laughs). After Donbrothers ended, I directly said (to Dai Sensei) "Next is 555!" However, I was worried about what would happen if he still had a Donbrothers feel in him, and that Takumi Inui became like Tarou Momoi (laughs). However, he flipped the switch perfectly and wrote a story that was truly 555-like. In fact, I might have had more of Donbrothers left in me (laughs).
Tasaki: No, this work was made possible because Shirakura-san had 555 in him. Personally, I went into Paradise Regained following the flow from Donbrothers, and I was able to get into the process smoothly because I was able to speak frankly with Inoue-san.
What were you conscious of as it was a sequel to a TV series?
Shirakura: Our goal is to create a work that satisfies those who have been fans since the beginning, while also being worth watching for those who have only recently discovered 555. Handa-kun and other cast members, as well as the people who watched the show on TV at the time, have aged 20 years. I also wanted to give meaning to that time. As long as it's a filmed work, there's no point in simply having a reunion. "xx years anniversary" or "the cast wants to do it" might be triggers, but they alone are not reasons to move forward with a project. In this case, it also has a meaning as a one-off work called Paradise Regained.
Tasaki: I thought about whether to make it an "encore after the final chapter", or an "entrance to a new chapter" like Kamen Rider OOO 10th: Resurrection Core Medal. Having said that, it's also boring to make people who watch it get it too early. I tried to make sure that the story unfolded in a certain way so that by the time you watched it to the end, you would know in which category this story falls into.
Shirakura: 555 is originally a story about boys and girls whose future as humans was cut off and who become Orphnochs, and boys and girls who continue to live through life without becoming Orphnochs. But now, 20 years later, they are no longer boys and girls. That's why this sequel to 555 wasn't just a rehash, but became a story about adults.
Tasaki: The "story of boys and girls" depicted in 555 is played by Rena (Kuruma) and the other new characters. Though writing them in was also to declare that "Takumi and co. are no longer boys and girls", thanks to them, the 555 identity was maintained.
The Faiz Phone and Faiz Driver have also been updated to match the times.
Shirakura: I've been told by various people, including Bandai, that if I were to make 555 now, the transformation item would be a smartphone. In that case, I felt like I had do a new 555 work before a brand-new Kamen Rider who transforms with a smartphone came out on Sundays (laughs).
Did Shirakura-san give any specific orders?
Shirakura: I left the story to Dai-sensei, so my orders were for the structure of the story. How to depict the 20 years. And I don't mean how many years after the story is set, but how to incorporate the fact that the actors and audience are 20 years older compared to back then.
How do you feel about the cast compared to 20 years ago?
Tasaki: As expected, everyone has grown, and each character has matured inside them like wine. That Handa-kun and co. took the initiative and said they wanted to do it means that they must have allowed Takumi, Mari, and Masato to live with them for the past 20 years. So when it came to preparing their roles, we didn't have much to ask them, and they were able to play the aged Takumi, Mari, and Masato in their own unique way. Karahashi also did some strange things behind the scenes, like making the T-shirts and aprons for the costumes himself (laughs).
Were any of the young cast members who appeared in this work fans of 555 back then?
Shirakura: Rui Yanagawa, who plays Hisao, has been watching the show since he was a child. He said that Delta was his favorite Kamen Rider.
Tasaki: You have to really like 555 to be a Delta fan (laughs).
Shirakura: Also, he wasn't a cast member, but there happened to be another drama being filmed nearby at the time of filming, and the actor who played the lead role in that drama came to watch. When I asked him about it, he said he was a big fan of 555 and was thrilled to see the real Takumi and Mari (laughs).
Why do you think 555 continues to be so popular?
Tasaki: I don't know why, because each work is like my own child to me.
Shirakura: I think the character of Takumi Inui, played by Kento Handa, was very appealing. And every character in the show was acting weird, either intentionally or unconsciously. In the first place, it's weird to write 555 and read it as Faiz (laughs). Despite these strange aspects, Bandai created extremely stylish toy packaging, made a special light-emitting suit made for filming, and was extremely particular about the opening video. I don't think this work would have been made under normal circumstances (laughs). There was a moment when I suddenly calmed down and thought "is this really going to be okay?" But when I saw the scene in the opening where Takumi started walking away after getting his hair cut by Mari, I felt the extraordinary aura of the main character. That's when I became confident that "this is going to work!!!"
Lastly, please give a message to the fans who are waiting for the new movie.
Tasaki: In addition to the cast and staff from the TV series, Action Director Sanshirou Wada and Kota Nakamura, who was in charge of filming extras for Paradise Lost as a camera assistant at the time, were in charge of cinematography. New powers have also been added. This is a work filmed by such members, so please look forward to it.
Shirakura: Rather than "please go watch", I want to say "you have to go watch". And the more you love 555, the more you may be unable to see the screen due to tears. I too lost the ability to see halfway through watching it. However, it was made so that you can enjoy it even if you don't know 555. I would be happy if you could watch the TV series or Paradise Lost after watching this movie.

IGN: Lionheart
Hero: Cass
Rank: Plat 3
Map: Illios, and Suravasa
PC
Code: 99B31Y (Suravasa), S4BPZJ (Ilios)
Been playing on and off since ow 1 released and been stuck in plat for a long time. I have recently been playing a lot of cass because I have been focusing a lot on my hitscan mechanics outside of soldier as he has always been a bit of a crutch for me so I am wanting to branch out and cass has always been a hero I liked but have never been super consistent with.
The codes are from my two most recent losses where I played cass. I think I played okay in both the games, I think what I am struggling most with is my awareness I think I can play too aggressively and end up on my own and just die.

  1. Im broke, I can't afford 30+ schools.
  2. DO schools financially exploit the fuck out applicants even more so than AAMC already does, and I just don't wanna deal with that.
    1. Like I said, I'm getting a master's; if I get straight rejected this cycle, I'll be in a much better position to apply across the board in the next one and will apply for DO then.

I really did try to pick schools where my stats were at least on the bell curve and OOS acceptance was above 25%. My concerns overall are that I generally have no idea how to put a school list together and that many of these schools might be super low-yield for OOS. I am also worried that I might have skipped over a lot of schools that I'd be a good mission fit at.
I have had pretty much zero guidance on applying outside of this subreddit, so I really appreciate any and all advice. Be harsh if you have to, I get it.

2024.05.22 02:15 Mastodon-Educational 488 -> 515 giving up on CARS

I scored 488 on a diagnostic and ended up with a 515 on the real thing. On top of normal advice everyone gives, I wanted to share a couple tips that worked for me.
  1. My CARS was pretty stagnant around 125-126 with minimal improvement since I started studying. About 3-4 weeks before my exam I essentially gave up on CARS and used those 1.5-2 hours each day to do more of the other three sections. I maybe did 1 passage per day, but not the 4ish per day that I thought I should do. As expected, I scored a 126 in cars on the real exam but my other sections made significant improvements. I by no means am recommending this to everyone, just sharing it was something that worked for me. I know that may be lower than ideal for some schools but I probably would’ve ended up with a lower overall score without doing this. I was able to get my other sections to 129/130 by focusing more on them. Also, I’m shooting for low/mid tier MD schools so there’s that.
  2. Don’t be afraid to take your time reviewing your FLs. Some of my FLs I ended up taking close to two days just reviewing everything, and I felt like I was wasting time but in hindsight that’s where I made lots of my progress as well.
Also, it’s possible!! Don’t get me wrong it will be A LOT of work if you started where I did, but I believe everyone can do it with the right approach. Happy to answer any questions.

2024.05.22 02:14 likestig Seed on Saturday- Feedback Welcomed

Seed on Saturday- Feedback Welcomed
Hey Y’all,
This sub has been invaluable for my yard renovation so thought I’d seek any feedback before I throw seed this weekend. New-to-me home had a front yard filled with weeds and a gopher mines. Have exterminated the gophers (mostly voles) and tilled up their mines, but still getting a visitor or two. They have only gone through the new topsoil in recent visits which is a relief for easy near term repairs. Neighbor gave me the OK to go for the gophers in their yard; house adjacent to them appears to be the big issue. Just put down some pellet deterrent which I hope will help during next steps. Glyphosate’d the weeds three weeks ago, pulled out what I could and tilled hard pack soil. Brought in 10 CuYd of amended topsoil, native soil is rocky and silty. Still waiting on soil test results. New soil was spread uniformly and used the balance to regrade the hillside. No weeds have popped through just yet. Planning to:
  1. Spray Tenacity. Was going to do this right before laying seed.
  2. Lightly rake and lay seed- Tall Fescue with a small mix of Bluegrass from Ryan Knorr. Says 8-10lb per 1000sqft, was going to aim for the high end of the range.
  3. Spray Gravity SL PGS. I’d seed sooner but this doesn’t arrive until Friday.
  4. Apply Scott’s Turfbuilder Starter fertilizer. Interested in feedback/alternatives here. Was going to go light on this since I’m using a plant growth regulator.
  5. Top dress with Peat Moss with roller spreader.
Not looking for a perfect yard here, just success. Seed germination test in the house has looked good with soil from the yard. Sprinkler setup is looking good, it spays against the house some which soaks that area a little too much but it’ll have to do. One spot looking a little dry but should be able to correct that tomorrow.

2024.05.22 02:13 oic869 First two matches and both had cheaters. :(

This is just my feedback but... these lobbies...
My first two games were lobbies with guys dropping 40 kills and me getting 1 tapped for letteing one pixel of my characters head leave cover.
It felt like if I Play defensively i die for playing slow or if i play offensively i die for showing any part of my body.
I don't care about sbmm but lobbies full of mf's with walls and aimbots will make alot of new players call this game DOA.
Hopefully my next few matches don't smell like fish. Good luck to everyone out there I hope none of you have my experience your first few games.

2024.05.22 02:13 lizzylizard3175 Leaving on a trip and 6 month old won’t take bottle

My 6 month old started refusing bottles around 4 weeks ago. She used to take them fine. We’ve tried different nipple flows, bottles, rooms, temperatures, with me there, without me there, different people, positions, etc. She’s on solids now and loves eating any and everything, and I’ve heard a lot of babies aren’t interested in bottles once they start solids so maybe that’s part of it.
We’ve been trying bottles 1-2 times a day and she’s been successful twice. I’m not sure what helped those two times except we had her playing with the bottle and tried a MAM sippy cup which she seems to like but now she is refusing again. She is relatively calm when we try to feed her (most of the time, sometimes she screams bloody murder and we just give up then because we don’t want her to have an aversion) but just bites the bottle nipple and doesn’t drink anything.
She even went 6 hours without eating while I was gone one day but didn’t even seem hungry during that time, just wasn’t interested. I’m going on a weekend trip across the country in 2.5 weeks and I’m starting to get really anxious that I’ll need to cancel my trip because she just refuses to eat. I’m worried she will get dehydrated or something. I’m feeling trapped and frustrated. Any advice or ideas or peace of mind welcome.

2024.05.22 02:12 FishingLeft2932 Lab scheduling

How do I schedule my labs so that they're alternating weeks? I have two labs, chem and bio. I selected Wednesday for both but picked Z06 for chem and Z28 for bio. They're supposed to be on Wednesday but the last two labs for each are within the same week of eachother, is that normal? They're like this:
Chem Bio
sep 9 sep 11
sep 16 sep 25
sept 30 oct 9
oct 21 oct 30
nov 1 nov 6
Notice how some of those dates aren't even wednesdays, there's like mondays and tuesdays as well, is that normal?
according to my understanding, each of these dates will have a lab and the lab report for that lab is due one week from that day. Is that correct? and do the labs i picked alternate so that i only have to focus on one lab during that week instead of both? Please let me know, I'm so confused, thanks!!

2024.05.22 02:12 officiallytimothy Buying Clothes from the kids section

I’m a 5’11", 135-pound man. I wear a men’s small and have a 28-inch waist. Every time I go shopping for clothes in stores, I head straight for the kids' section. I’ve discovered that a men’s small has a lot of overlap with a kids' size 14-18, depending on the brand. The clothes are so much cheaper, and they’re of comparable quality to adult sizes. Because I’m relatively tall, I avoid boys' pants, but shirts, shorts, and underwear are all fair game. I managed to get three two-piece sets and a three-pack of Calvin Klein boxers for under $50

2024.05.22 02:12 Craig__D What is appropriate protocol when someone picks up a bottle for you (and also delivers it to you)?

I'll try to make this brief, but I'm wondering if I'm making a big deal out something that really shouldn't be a big deal or if I am justified in being a little upset. Also, if the other guy is in the wrong, is there any reason for me to say something to him? The other guy's name will be "Bob" -- but that's not his real name, of course.
This past weekend I picked up a unique bottle (a store pick Jack Daniels' Rye) at the request of Bob -- a Facebook acquaintance who lives a couple hours away. I've picked up a few bottles for him before, and this request was not out of the blue. I didn't mind doing it.
My 24 year old son and his new wife were visiting with us for the weekend and would be passing through Bob's town on their way back to their apartment, so I asked my son if he would mind dropping it off on their way through Bob's town. No problem.
My son and I drove 10 minutes to the liquor store and back home, with no other objectives on the trip. I thought there might be a crowd waiting for the bottle, so I made the decision myself to go on the mission at that time rather than wait until later when we might have been out running other errands. I made the purchase and sent Bob a picture of the receipt. He sent me a Venmo that was a little short of the amount that I paid. The total cost was a $76.26 and he sent me $76. I was a little miffed.
On Sunday when my son and daughter-in-law were traveling home Bob coordinated a meet-up location that was right along their route through his town (how thoughtful of him), and they met up and transferred the bottle. There were no problems. That's the end of the story.
There are two reasons I am a little upset with Bob:
  1. He reimbursed me less than what I spent on the bottle he asked me to buy for him. I lost money.
  2. I though he should have given my son a couple of samples or a few dollars for his trouble.
I did not do the favor with the intention of making a profit... but I sure didn't plan to lose money in my bourbon account as a result of the deal, either! The amount of money that he was short on his payment isn't really the point. I can survive the $0.26 loss. We won't have to cancel the cable. But I really don't think I should have to take a loss at all.
Case in point: When my sister recently picked up a bottle for me in another state I rounded up to the next $5 when I paid her for the bottle... and that was my sister! This is my typical approach when someone does this type of favor for me.
I also thought it would have been a nice opportunity for him to be a cool adult to a younger guy who has a bourbon interest and give my son a couple of samples of some bottles from his collection. Bob knew that it would be my son dropping off the bottle. Instead he did nothing except to say "thanks" and also make sure my son didn't have to drive too far out of his way to drop off the bottle.
Is it too petty of me to be a little upset at all of this? If not, is it worth saying anything to Bob? He's not really a friend. He's just a guy on Facebook. (He IS the moderator of a sizeable statewide bourbon-interest group, for whatever that's worth.)
Thoughts?

2024.05.22 02:12 DriverMysterious9505 Shouldn’t have married

Getting married was the stupidest thing I could have done to myself. Married to my wife for 1.5 years, recently had a son who is 9 weeks old.
The constant nagging, whining, self-victimising/martyring, wronging; it’s not worth any of it.
I should’ve listened to other men out there. I didn’t wanted to, I didn’t wanted to see it for what it was, and now it’s all that I see.
I hate this bullshit, should’ve gone my own way.

2024.05.22 02:12 NoWind1903 School List Feedback? WAMC for T10/T20?

Hey everyone, wanted some feedback on my school list, is it too top heavy? I think I am a strong applicant, and I have dreams of a T10 acceptance, but I’m not sure if I’m overestimating my competitiveness, or if I need a reality check.
Stats: ORM, NY resident, T30 Undergrad, 2023 grad (so two gap years) GPA: 4.00, Psych Major MCAT: Score coming back 6/11, FL average was 524, but felt rushed on cars so I probably did a little lower than FL avg.. Predicting 519-522 score.
Narrrative: Overall, pretty strong ”mental health in medicine” narrative backing up my PS and experiences.
Research: 1500 hours clinical psychiatry research (4 year commitment) 2 published abstracts, 1 first author paper in review, 1 second author paper in review, presented at 1 professional conference, received a $1000 research grant from my uni.
Clinical Employment: 650 hours split between two inpatient mental health facilities
Non-Clinical Employment: 150 hours as lumberyard worker
Clinical Volunteering: 75 hours as behavioral health aide, helping w autistic children.
Non-Clinical Volunteering: 150 hours at Crisis text line
Leadership: 200 hours as high school & K-5 wrestling coach
Shadowing: 100 hours, between Internal Medicine & Neurology
LORs: 1 science prof, 1 non-science prof, 2 research PI letters, committee letter. To my knowledge, the 2 PI LORs are very strong, and one PI has clout lol

2024.05.22 02:11 More-Network-4303 I now understand why everyone quits this job position

This is a throw away.
Tw: Racism, maybe?
For context, I am POC.
I (21 F) work in an office where communication goes to die. You could send an email three days prior, and it will still not be read. You could talk to someone and be met with constant “I don’t understand” or being talked down to while simultaneously not getting an answer. Half of the times, I give up on verbal communication because we are just talking in circles.
Since being hired, I have quickly realized I am one in a long line of people in my position. My predecessor worked this position for about six months before they moved her. The girl before? Two before she left. The reason? We work with the actual devil (~ 65 F).
This woman is the most vindictive person I have ever met, but according to our boss, she has never been malicious in all the time he’s known her. Let me tell you right now, he must have the world’s most colorful rose-tinted glasses.
According to the other people in the office, she actively seeks to humiliate and hold power over people in my position. Mind you, this isn’t how our work structure is supposed to be framed. Oh, and she definitely makes racially insensitive comments towards anyone she deems below her.
She has asked people if English is a foreign language to them and where they “come from originally”. And apparently, when an African American woman was in my job position, the two of them would fight constantly. She has also thrown papers at people and tried to square up with them in the copy room.
And now that I am in this job position, I have been asked where I come from and if I grew up “here”, meaning the United States. Generally, these aren’t necessarily offensive. But at the time, I had known her for maybe two weeks. When I told my bosses, one took the matter seriously (1) while the other droned on about how she’s the sweetest person he knows (2).
Since the incident, she refused to speak to or even look at me. Everything was via email. Not wanting to stir the pot, I met her where she was and communicated mostly through email. This is where I messed up.
Recently, I sent an email asking that this coworker send me more clear information regarding a request she had. I request information for the office, so it is important to give me the correct info, and as much info as possible.
I double checked with 1, and he said that yes, everyone should be giving me as much info as they can when giving me requests, and that it was okay to send everyone a reminder. I send a reminder to everyone (not just the one person) about this.
Later, she sent me an email with barely any info (like people’s names instead of facilities or offices, some addresses, and no dates for what she needs), and I tell her I need more clear info to be able to process her request.
Well, she showed this email to 2, and he has a “talk” with me. Which is basically just me saying “I’m sorry I misunderstood how the process works” and him saying I was being inappropriate for “telling her how to do her job”.
Apparently I should have taken that info and searched the files myself. He called the info “easily accessible”, and believe me, it was not. I will have to keep digging for it tomorrow and possibly into the next day.
In case you haven’t caught on, that is almost the complete opposite of what 1 told me.
2 also told me I should reach out and try talking to her. I explained she won’t even look at me and he implied it was because I brought up her insensitive comments. I tried to tell him over and over that she would not talk to me. I think I would’ve gotten farther explaining to the wall.
After this meeting, I basically start crying out of frustration. One of my coworkers told me apparently, she does this to everyone in my position and likes making them frustrated and cry.
No wonder everyone quits.
Tl;dr: My maybe-malicious coworker makes everyone quit or gets them fired.

2024.05.22 02:11 Nyoobwsb Update on my journey

Hi everyone,
My 2yrs toddler slept over my place 3 days for the first time last week. Here's how things went
1 day: After washing up he crawled himself up to bed and went to sleep right away. At 2:30am he woke up and starting looking for mom this took about 10 min and fell back asleep until morning.
2 day: He noticed that sleeping in that room = no mom. So he didn't want to sleep in the first room. So I took him to the second room and he was ok with it. No waking up or looking for mom.
3 day: Again, he noticed that sleeping in either room = no mom. So he wanted to be in the living room. I read him a book and he fell asleep in my arms. So I put him to bed and slept with him. He did not look for mom or woke up until morning.
I thought everything went great but here's what my ex emailed me.
After his first night with you at your place on Thursday, I told Noah that he will be sleeping another night with you on Friday and I noticed that he got very quiet and his demeanor changed from his usual playful mood.
That may have been your account of what happened on Sunday, but in actuality after I picked him up and got home, and as soon as I opened the car door, he saw that he was home and he cried and would not let go of me saying ,"mom mom". He would not let go of me for a long time and wanted to be next to me for the rest of the day.
He was so tired after those couple days of staying with you that he slept 14 hours two nights in a row (even after taking solid naps during the day), waking up throughout the night looking for me, crying “mom mom“ even though I was sleeping next to him.
On Sunday when we went to church, his behavior was different than usual and other church members there noticed as well. He would play, then freeze and then look and down do a side glance at me. When I would comfort him, he would pull my hands on his him and then place his hands on top to make sure that I don’t leave.
Have anyone go through something like this? What are some coparenting schedule that worked out for you? If something like this happened to you, how long did it last until child was ok?
Thank you in advance
Update: She decided that he will no longer sleep over at my place until she think he’s ready. I’m so fed up with her controlling the situation and will be taking legal action to get custody.
5/21: I got served at work with court summon (which I was expecting so it didnt hit me hard) but what did hit is the allegation that she put in her statements. Its fking hilarious how your ex can use single little things to try to get at you legally. Basically she is saying that she wants sole custody because I'm not capable of taking care of my son. I went to lawyers office and they laughed it off saying " yeah we see this all the time, dont you worry about it ". You know I tried to keep this civil as possible not touching any of her finance but she started this war. I will go after all the assets that she has and she can have mine too. (I was a stay home dad for over a year due to her request) After finish talking to the lawyer, puzzles started to match.. she never REALLY wanted 50/50 like she had said in mediation.
Can you guys share your story? Like if your ex made false allegation towards you and how you won 50/50 custody?

2024.05.22 02:11 IHeartChimichongas WIBTA if I took my sister’s cat with me when moving out?

My sister and I live with our parents. She is 7, I am 18. We have 4 cats. Joey, Vesper, and our 2 kittens; which are Vesper and Joey’s babies. We originally planned on rehoming the two younger kittens as 4 cats is too much. My mom, however, absolutely fell in love with them and after talking to my dad decided to keep them.
Joey was the first cat we got and he was an impulse purchase by my dad. My little sister (6 at the time) saw kittens being sold on the side of the road and asked dad for one, which he immediately obliged. Even though Joey was bought for my little sister, he took to me. I am his favorite person in the house, he follows me around, meows for me to pet him, and sometimes jumps on my shoulders/in my arms so I have to hold him.
He does these things to other people in the house but not nearly as much as he does me. To put it in perspective, my mom was surprised one day (months after we got him) that he followed her around the kitchen asking to be pet because he keeps to himself so much when I’m not around.
I’m moving out sometime this summer and although I have all the means to take care of animals, I originally didn’t plan to get any living things for a few months or even years. After finding out that my current house is now going to have 4 cats living in it, I thought about taking Joey and Vesper with me.
My line of reasoning being that 1. my little sister is (mildly) allergic to cats so having this many in the house could harm her, 2. having 4 cats pooping in one litter box is making the house smell, 3. my mom loves the 2 kittens so she could never get rid of them, 4. I have the means to take care of 2 cats, and 5. I really love Joey and I’d be upset to leave him behind.
I would also be taking Vesper with me because it would help all the previous problems, plus Joey and her grew up around eachother so separating them feels wrong.
Where I might be TA: it’s still my little sister’s cat. Even though she’s little and doesn’t quite know how to take care of an animal she still loves him a lot. I’m kind of worried she’d brand me as “the B*tch who stole her cat”
She wants me to take Vesper and one of the kittens, but the thing is I don’t really like the kittens or vesper all that much. I still love them and care for them but if it’s the choice between them or no cats, I’d take no cats. I’m worried I sound selfish when I pitch the idea.
TLDR: WIBTA if I moved out and took my sister’s cat and 1 other in our house when I’d refuse to take any other pairing of the 4 total.

2024.05.22 02:11 Pix3lina FL- Landlady wants us to paint entire apartment, doors and baseboards

We moved into our apartment 4 years ago and we are not renewing. We reached out to the landlady asking about which paint to use for doing touch-ups. She sent us pictures of two different paints, a matte and a semi gloss, and saying we need to paint the entire apartment including doors and baseboards upon vacating.
  1. The 2 paints she wants us to use can only be purchased with a contractor license from sherwin Williams.
  2. Nowhere does it say in the contract that we need to repaint the entire apartment.
We asked her to let us know where in the contract does it say we need to repaint the entire unit, doors and baseboards and she said it’s only on the walkthrough sheet we signed at move-in when they gave us the keys.
Additionally, because of our lengthy stay, the condition of the unit is beyond regular wear and tear and she needs to have it in the same state that was given to us at walkthrough as signed.
Mind you, she lives overseas, NO ONE came to assess the condition of the property to conclude its “beyond regular wear and tear”. We have been very careful with the unit, we even used those command hooks to avoid any patching. However, we were blessed with a child 3 years ago, so inevitably there are scuff marks that will only go away by touching up.
She’s still trying to figure out an alternative to the contractor-only paints for us to buy.
What are our options?
