2024.02.26 15:09 open1your1eyes0 WigiDash software confirmed causing crashes in COD: Modern Warfare III

Heads-up for the bit of "wall of text" here but you may find my situation interesting and if you've been having the same issues with this game lately without being able to determine the cause, I may have a solution for you here if you have recently purchased the G.Skill WigiDash PC Command Panel.
Backstory for the issue
For the last several weeks now, I have been chasing a very challenging crashing issue with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III as I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was causing the issue no matter what I tested. The game ran completely fine for me since day 1 of its release, all up until around about a month ago when it released its "Season 2" update, when all of the sudden at very random times (that didn't seem to show any kind of pattern - whether it's in a match, or at the loading screen, or menus, etc...) the game would blink directly to a black screen and then take me right to the desktop without any error message whatsoever.
Troubleshooting timeline
The thing that made it so difficult and time-consuming for me to narrow down the exact cause of the issue was, for me, it also coincided with around the same time when I had upgraded my GPU from an RTX3080 to an RTX4080 and then to an RTX4080 Super (got a deal on the previous used RTX4080 but resold it as I wanted warranty and a Founders Edition as well), and on top of that I had also upgraded a few versions of the NVIDIA drivers a couple of times, also got the G.Skill WigiDash panel, installed several old games I hadn't played for years, upgraded several apps to their latest version (including HWInfo, MSI Afterburner, and AIDA64), and accidentally determined that my Windows pagefile settings had not been set properly for some time that I was not aware for how long.
And the most difficult part of all for me to blame any particular hardware or other software was the fact that these crashes only happened in Call of Duty, and all other games ran absolutely fine without any issue.
Conclusion Reached??
So with all this, one would logically come to the conclusion that it would be an with the game itself in that case (maybe a bad update, etc...) right?
Well...I thought so too, so I had tried to look up the issue on the game's forums, Steam forums, the game's subreddit, and few other locations. And yes, it did seem that I saw several posts from others that after the Season 2 update it seems there was a slight increase in the amount of people getting crashes. But only slight, it definitely wasn't everyone and definitely wasn't enough to call it a "widespread" issue. The thing for me is, it's true that the crashing was not consistent in "when" it crashed, but it was 100% consistent in that it did crash every single time I would try to play the game for at least 15 minutes or so (many times less, many times I wouldn't even get the match to load yet and would be in just the lobby and it would crash). I couldn't ever get the game to play without crashing longer than 15 minutes and it just became incredibly frustrating to the point where effectively the game that I daily would now become borderline useless to me if I wasn't able to solve this issue.
Resolution suggestions attempted
So I tried to look up several suggestions folks on the forums and subreddit gave to others to try to resolve the issue. The most common resolution was, some folks mentioned a software called "reWASD" that once they uninstalled it, it instantly resolved the issue. The thing for me though is, I had never used such a software at all before and found absolutely no traces of it on my PC. So that resolution wasn't helpful.
The 2nd most common resolution I found was, several folks suggested to remove the overclock from your computer (CPU and/or GPU) and disable XMP and that resolved the issue for the them. But the problem with that one was, there were still some folks that reported even with stock non-overclocked settings it still crashed for them, and for me personally, ever since I overclocked the PC it had been rock-stable and completely no other game or application had any crashing or other issues for over a year since I had overclocked. And even the game itself had been completely stable for me as well all up until around the same timing of coinciding with its "Season 2" update and I remembered I had not changed a single thing (hardware-wise) between when it last worked and when it started crashing for me. So while I'm sure some people were just on the edge of stability before and that might have resolved their particular issue, I didn't really buy that for my personal case.
Those seemed to be the most common causes that I had saw a lot of reports for and all other suggestions involved people "verifying" the Steam game files, uninstalling/reinstalling the game, deleting some particular game files, editing some settings, reloading shaders, and a bunch of other stuff specific to the game. I tried all the usual suggestions, and for things that I wasn't willing to sacrifice (like running lower graphics settings or downclocking my PC while it was stable everywhere else besides this game after the Season 2 update) I decided that should not be the cause as I never changed any of those things between when it last worked and when it started crashing.
This was incredibly frustrating as there was clearly something wrong with this particular game, but yet there were not enough reports of the issue for it to be considered a common and widespread issue, so (despite having no issues in any other game or application), I still thought it still had to be something specific to my setup in that case causing an issue for this particular game.
A Possible Theory
Now, one of my troubleshooting points was, I did recall I got the G.Skill WigiDash panel around the same time when the "Season 2" update came out, and even though I thought I remembered running it for at least a few days without any crashes, I did read that the type of crash I was getting (crashing directly desktop without a single error message) some people suggested that type of crash usually may coincide with the games anti-cheat engine. So I thought, maybe the game started now seeing the device as some kind of "cheating" device (due to all the kind of hardware/software stats you can see while running the game), and something was triggering it just quit the game when it detected it. So I thought ok, then let me just fully exit and quit both the WigiDash software and AIDA64 (as I had both running) just to check if one of those was the cause. But unfortunately that didn't resolve it, so I figured those two softwares must not be the cause. Then I tried to completely unplug the WigiDash device itself thinking it was the USB hardware of it that was triggering the game to quit. Still didn't resolve it. So that's when I (initially) determined that the WigiDash and AIDA64 must not be the cause and went on to other troubleshooting and testing at the time.
But no matter what else I did, sometimes it worked better, sometimes it crashed sooner, but I just absolutely could not get the game to stop crashing consistently when trying to play any longer than 15 minutes.
The Actual Conclusion
Well...long story short...after a bunch of research, trial-and-error, troubleshooting, and back and forth testing of uninstalling combinations of softwares and such, I eventually determined that (despite me testing when the WigiDash software was fully quit, and the device was unplugged) apparently the WigiDash software itself was still in fact responsible for all the crashing issues I had with the game. But here was the odd way I would discover this:
After so much time and effort trying to troubleshoot the issue and absolutely not being able to find any obvious signs of what was causing it, but still knowing it had to be something with my particular setup as not enough people reported them having the crashing issues for this game, as a last idea I decided to do the hard work and checked the entire event logs in the event viewer for my computer anytime the game would crash (was able to make it easier by narrowing down within the few minutes before and after the crash). I saw a bunch of different things in there but no messages at all that seemed to coincide with the game itself.
But one thing I did notice was, about every few seconds or so, there was a warning log message recorded that said "The backing-file for the real-time session "HWiNFO64" has reached its maximum size. As a result, new events will not be logged to this session until space becomes available. This error is often caused by starting a trace session in real-time mode without having any real-time consumers.".
And so I thought to myself, ok must be a bug with HWInfo, even though it was already updated, let's try to update it to the latest beta version maybe and see if that resolves anything. Unfortunately it did not. So I said ok, then let me completely uninstall HWInfo entirely and see if that resolves the issue. It still did not...but here's the odd part. Despite HWInfo being completely uninstalled and the computer even restarted, I still saw the same event log messages being generated for HWInfo. And that's exactly what finally clued me in...
I had then remembered that the WigiDash software does in fact interact with HWInfo, and despite it not even being started (and the device was unplugged), I thought maybe it has it's own version of the HWInfo plug-in that it tries to keep running all the time.
And viola...that was indeed the case as I had found two HWInfo32 and HWInfo64 dll files in the install directory for the WigiDash software.
So I decided to uninstall just the WigiDash software alone and test the game again, and sure enough...not a single crash in Call of Duty after that. Not...even...one...
I tested again by installing the WigiDash software again (latest version) and (like clockwork) again the game started crashing right away as before. And so I uninstalled the WigiDash software again, and put back all other softwares/games/settings that I had before all the troubleshooting I started in the beginning, and have ran the game daily for over a week now. Not a single crash anymore. Not even one. After weeks of headaches with troubleshooting this issue, looks like we finally found our culprit.
Not sure if there are any G.Skill or Call of Duty employees in this subreddit, but I do hope someone may see this (or pass this on to the team) to see if they can check and resolve this issue at some point.
TLDR: If you've been facing random crashes to the desktop (and no error message) with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III game, and you recently purchased the G.Skill WigiDash PC Command Panel, and have been unable to determine the cause of the crashing despite any troubleshooting, try just uninstalling the WigiDash software and restarting your PC and testing the game after to see if that fixes your issue.
UPDATE: So good news, after talking with some folks on the Elmor Labs Discord (WigiDash channel), there are several test builds available for the WigiDash Manager software that seem to have fixed multiple issues but are not released to the public just yet. I installed the latest test build version as of 2/26/2024 (v1.0.8822.24657) and after playing for several hours for a few days already, I haven't faced a single crash yet.
If anyone else is having this issue, feel free you can join their discord at the link below and just look for the "gskill-wigidash" channel (not to be confused with "gskill-wigidash-forum" channel which is different).

2023.10.30 12:52 itz_panther_- Faulted for playing my role

Greetings!
Before i begin the story i'd like to offer a bit of context behind it. I've been a dm for quite a while now and have run a few games and a ongoing campaign for my friends, one of my players (we'll call him frisk for privacy's sake) pulled me aside and said a mutual friend of ours wanted to try and play DnD. I offered to show him the ropes and run a few one shots with the friend in order to get them interested and introduced to the games mechanics. After a few one shots, Frisk asks me if id be interested in being a Player for once to take a break from my constant dming (i don't mind being a dm as it allows me to be creative and practice my voice acting). I agree and out mutual Friend sets up a small group of players that Frisk will be Dming for.
Side note this would be Frisk first time being a DM which i heavily encouraged as i knew he had a creative mind.
Cut forward 2 weeks and i'm introduced to the party who had already established what they wanted to play. Here i introduce Frisk (DM), neko (Catfolk Cleric), Airishi (Dark Elf Sorceror), Mutual Friend who ill refer to as MF (Shifter Artificer) and lastly... Wigi (High Elf Bard) who later on proves to be quite the problem.
Once i'm told what everyone's gone, i'm kinda disappointed as i haven't been a Player in quite a while and my default pick is Bard, but i didn't want to repick a class thats already chosen and seeing as how we needed a front lining tank i opted to try something new and picked my Zealot Barbarian Warforged.
First session begins and Frisk gives the party a fairly simple introduction to the world and we started in the generic one by one you all slowly begin to meet at the local tavern.
As we began to introduce our characters and have them meet one by one, the party quickly established that there was a common interest to explore, form a party and acquire some coin and status.
The party made haste and went to the Town's adventurer's guild in order to form our official party. I should note that by this point, the bard had failed a performance check while playing for a free drink, the sorceres had gotten intoxicated and the cleric went of to pray at a local church... which he ended up breaking the altar and landing himself in debt to the church.
After arriving at the guild we were all presented with a small form to fill out (group members, group name and most importantly Group Leader) now as the form is being filled out no one in the group wished to take the responsibility for being the group Leader. I decided to take initiative and asked if it was ok with being Leader (which everyone was ok with) now being considered the Group Leader was only for 2 things (1 being to officially sign any high level group quests and 2 to be handed the reward in the end, the leader is by no means the person in charge or running all the shots)
We begin to take up a few quests and i begin doing what any normal barbarian would (with a bit of reflavoring due to being a warforged) i raged and swung my way through each battle, rocking a solid 16 AC with unarmored defense making sure to keep the heat of the fight on me.
We've later come into this back and forth sort of sway where all i'd hear is "Hey Barbarian, what do you want to do?", or "I'm just gonna follow Barbarian around" or even "Hey Barbarian, what do you want to do?"
A few sessions went by of exploring, RP and combat, i'm having fun being a PC for once as i've only ever really dm'ed before and this 5th session was when disaster struck for my barbarian Cue dramatic Pause.
We've just come out of combat against a creature that frisk had made unique to his world, we had explored this intersting sort of Egyptian style temple that was also a prison. At the end of Combat 3 PC had fallen unconcious from a large AOE spell that the monster had use (essentially a reflavored fireball). With a bit of Persuasion from Wigi we had gotten 3 Health potions at a good price. And as a good Team Leader i used all three to revive our fallen players. The session soon came to a close and we had all gone home.
The next day comes around and i tend to my work as normal only to be texted by the dm with a "We need to talk". Now i've been friends with Frisk for years so these texts can come with a variety of meanings so i took it chill. Got out of work at night and Frisk pulls me aside when i got home and says
"Look, i don't know what other way to say this but the party(he says this to avoid name dropping) is complaining about you"
I was shocked, i wasn't sure what happened, he later goes on to explain how the party was complaining that i was "Too OP" and "Was doing all the work" and how they had tried to manipulate him into nerfing my character.
I was furious. But i've always been one to avoid confrontation and pointless fights so i calmed down a bit. I asked if it was ok for me to know who was complaining about me, frisk had told me that it was mainly Wigi with a small bit from Airishi. They talked about how i was hogging all the spotlight and using unfair game mechanics for being a GM to make my OP. (I was just a level 6 Zealot Barbarian with the Sentinel feat...)
The group carried on for a two more session (the first one i wasn't a part of due to having a bit of a vacation with my father.) And supposedly while i was gone, Wigi had gone out of his way to continue complaining and even drop the comment "See, its so much better when Barbarian isn't here" Frisk has had enough by this point as he had grown tired of Wigi's constant attention seeking, distractions, playing Overwatch while we were mid Campaign and complaining and questioning about every single detail that Frisk tried to implement.
Frisk implemented what he calls "The Punishment Dice" its a D100 with a punishment that goes up in ten's (1-10 is a punishment, 11-20 is a punishment, etc.) This was implemented more as a general punishment dice so it could happen to any of us if Frisk deemed what were doing was inappropriate or disrespectful at the time.
In the later session where i did join, i decided to play a bit more passively and decided to make barbarian a bit clueless as to encourage them to take initative and do things as thats what they were complaining about, the session continues and combat starts. In order to allow them to do more i decided to only attack once per turn (i do have extra attack). The combat ensues and the foe is slain by the cleric who used a guiding bolt to take off the creatures head. Everyone's laughing and having fun... or so i thought.
Session closes and we all go home, DM texts me about how Wigi was once more complaining about my character for "doing too much" and dealing too much damage. You had to be joking me right? Well no... turns out he was serious, he felt like i hogged all the spotlight (having stayed away from all the perception and investigation roles) and was too OP in combat (only attacked like 4 times for a grand total of 31 damage distributed between 4 attacks without extra attack)
Frisk is currently in shackles as he wants to kick out Wigi for causing too much trouble but knowing said friend group he knows he'll find better results cancelling the campaign and starting a new with a seperate friend group that already plays D&D and won't complain as much.
TLDR: I get peer pressured into being the teams Tank and Leader only to be harrassed for doing said task i was forced into by Problem Player.

Mario and Luigi PiT 3DS Cover
Was clearing out my files and found this, I remember being annoyed that PiT was the ONLY game in the series not to have a 3ds cover. Then I found this subreddit and thought, eh why not. Looking back it could probably use some edits, my brain is not going to let it go now.

2022.10.28 17:00 Vroomdeath Help - Multiple iPhones drop Wifi - Private Wifi Address?

Hello,
So i have an issue with multiple iPhones in the household that in recent months randomly drop the wigi and say that it cannot connect to the network, check your network basically. But the network is fine, many other devices are on it without a problem and not dropped. You can only then reconnect your iphone if you restart the router. Not ideal when you work from home etc.

While playing around I found that if I untick "Private Wifi Address" my phone will rejoin the network. Then after an hour or so it will drop again. If then go on and Tick Private Wifi Address, it re joins again and we end up in this circle of having to do it 5/6 times a day. So it must be something with MAC address? like when it drops the router still thinks this device is connected to it, when it isn't and so wont let my device rejoin until I force the MAC to change by flicking the Private Wifi Address option?

Has anyone else had this or know of a setting within my Network i could alter to resolve this as its becoming a pain in the arse.

I spoke to Apple, they blamed my network. I spoke to my network, they blamed Apple. And around and around we go.

2022.06.20 14:17 GloomySelf A Comprehensive List of All (Possible) Deleted Scenes from Dominion

I'm a loser and bought the junior novelisation and there are some new, and extended scenes I've noticed. I don't know how accurate these things are to an actual extended cut, or if they're just extras they put in the novel for the sake of it. This will be in chronological order, and some of these things might not be new, I just forget them in the film. And yes, I call Ellie as Ellie and Grant as Grant not Alan or Allen or Alen, because I can't remember how to spell his name, even though it's literally on the page in front of me LOL. Hope you understand. The opening "NewsNow" (is that what it was called), and ending with them isn't in the novel.
If you can't be bothered reading the entire post, here are the main differences - The farmer Ellie speaks to when she arrives to investigate the locusts is a male instead of a female. She actually goes into the house to look at the Locust they've captured - There's an extension at the dig site, where those two girls sitting down on their phones are actually paying tourists and are trying to disrespect Grant's work as a palaeontologist - The Locusts turn yellow when agitated - There's a fight between an Oviraptor and Lystrosaurus in the Malta underground - Rain Delacourt's death is different. The Lystro is biting his leg (not arm), and gets eaten by a Baryonyx. No baby Carno bites his other arm - The Dimetrodon actually eats Grant's hat - There is no mention of the Barbasol can at all - Ellie's DNA of the Locust actually falls into the Giga's mouth during their confrontation. She get's a new sample by breaking the leg off a burning Locust that's still alive - In the final fight, Theri is just eating berries. Kayla sends out a flare to distract the Giga, but it notices the Theri eating, and decides that will be its next kill.

2022.06.15 14:51 pragustina I can make a 'not-so-sensible' line make sense

You know how literature teachers always make stuff more deep than it already is. I'm neither an English major nor a native speaker. I've studied literature for 12 years or so and I have come to a conclusion that I make a 'not-so-sensible' kpop lyric make sense to an extent ofc since it's my 1st language. [not so Long post ahead]
Here are some examples of N.Flying and ATEEZ (my top pics for not so grammatically correct English but great discography groups):
Here are some non-N.FlyTeez examples:
Bonus: Feel like Cinderella naega byeonhae- Cat and Dog, TXT This is genius writing I'm telling you. Naega Byeonhae translates to 'I change'. In the fairy tale, Cinderella, she changes from the elegant caught eye of the prince back to the mistreated lives in the attic girl at midnight. It highlights how one changes just like Cinderella in front of their crush.
Comment some of your 'not-so-sensible' lyrics and I'll make it make sense but pls don't comment stuff like shut your tongue from that 1 SuJu MV cause I have no idea what that means-

2022.05.10 21:27 prnth_y Defining characteristics of Twice, Blackpink and Red Velvet's title tracks

These are just my personal thoughts on what defines these groups in terms of their songs. Across years and concepts, they've managed to create unique blueprints which are immediately recognizable. So here's what I think are the building blocks of these groups' title tracks (I may be over-enthusiastic with my praise but nobody can stop me so haha)
Blackpink: Simple melodies
Melodies are obviously the essence of pop music. Like, there'd be nothing to sing along to if not for melodies. Yet, what Teddy has managed to accomplish with Blackpink's discography is very cool. They have some of the most memorable melodies imo, and the best part is that they can be hummed. Look at Whistle, look at Playing with Fire, look at How You Like That. The main melody is incredibly catchy. Of course, they tend to have beat-drop choruses which you can't sing along to, but these melodies are still VERY easy to hum. The use of onomatopeaia (DDU-DDU-DU, YEAH-YEAH-YEAH-YEAH-YEAHHH, BADA-BING-BADA-BOOM) contributes a lot to increasing how memorable their songs are. This is a major part of why they appeal to so many demographics internationally - Blackpink's melodies just stick.
Twice: Catchy lyrics
This has gotta be undisputed. I legitimately believe they have the catchiest lyrics ever in all of K-pop. While there are lyrics which are catchy mainly because they're repetitive (Knock-knock-knock-knock-knock on my door; seolleonda me-likey, me-likey-likey-likey; jjirit-jjirit-jjirit-jjirit), their multiple producers have also done a great job at creating memorable hooks (shy-shy-shy; BB-cream-ppa-ppa-ppa; risky-risky-wiggy-wigi). This has translated incredibly well even after their concept change - just look at Alcohol Free. Who would've thought simply listing alcoholic drinks would make sense? Somehow, JYP and Twice managed to do it. Something to be noted, though, is that Sana and Momo are irreplaceable in terms of singing hook lyrics. They make up a major part of Twice's musical identity, despite being weaker in terms of vocals.
Red Velvet: Layered production
While SM has always created exquisite tracks with masterful production, Red Velvet is a standout with regards to how they leaned into it completely. It's funny that their name is Red Velvet, because I imagine their songs to be built like a red velvet cake: layers upon layers of rich decadence, sweetness and texture. Dumb Dumb, Power Up, Automatic and Feel My Rhythm are perfect examples of this. Even Peekaboo, which shouldn't actually fit in to their discography because of how "bare" it is, manages to fit in perfectly because the structure is very defined with strong beats and stronger vocal layers. No other group has managed to recreate the numerous layers we hear in Red Velvet's music perfectly. WJSN is probably the main group which comes close to doing so.
