I wanted to provide some impressions with the Nano Texture display. I’m not a full-time artist, I’m just now starting to get into 3D modeling (but have just dipped my toes in the water), and I love editing photography as a hobby.
I originally purchased a 1TB Standard Display iPad that was delivered on May 15th. However on Friday the 17th, I saw an Apple Store had the 1TB Nano Texture in stock, and so I picked that up as well and did some side by side comparisons. I had them together in a well lit living room, a darkened bedroom (curtains closed but not pitch black), as well as in complete total darkness. And overall, yes, there is a bit of a difference, but it is so incredibly small, that I can only see it if I’m looking at both side by side.
In a pitch black room and side by side, there is a hint more saturation and a hint of deeper blacks. But how often am I in that scenario? Usually right before I’m going to bed. For the other 90% of the time I’m using the iPad, I am in lit areas of varying degrees, and in those situations, not having glaring reflections wins out every single time. When I can see visible reflections on my screen, that 2% extra deep black doesn’t mean anything because it’s being washed out by the horrible reflection. The Nano Texture diffuses the light, making it a much, MUCH better viewing experience. Sure the image gets washed out as well, but in a much softer way and provides a much easier reading experience because your brain isn’t trying to see through a reflection.
The other thing I’ve really loved about the Nano Texture, is it almost gives this display an E-Ink feel to it. Except it would be the most gorgeous, bright, high-resolution E-Ink display you’ve ever seen. Everything you view almost feels like it has a printed quality to it. Things are less digital and more physical feeling. And at first it may be a bit jarring. When I bought my Studio Display with Nano Texture over a year ago, when it first came in I struggled on if I should replace it with glossy, it just looked a bit different. But after a year, and having my Nano Studio Display at home and working off a glossy display in the office, Nano is absolutely my preferred viewing choice. And maybe that year of adjusting my eyes to this matte display helped my transition from glossy iPad display to matte. iJustine mentioned it in one of her videos, but it is a bit weird for your brain because it’s used to seeing through reflections, and this just doesn’t have them.
Speaking of E-Ink, I’ve been doing some reading from the Kindle App on my new Nano iPad, and it is a pretty big improvement and easier on the eyes reading long blocks of texts. I think this goes back to the images on the display feeling more print like and less digital. This will 100% replace me using my Kindle Oasis and I also can’t wait to start getting into some graphic novels with this display.
Finally the texture of the screen. There is definitely a difference to the touch, but this just feels like a much smoother (and even softer) surface to slide my fingers around compared to the standard glass. It really feels premium. Fingerprints have been way less of an issue for me compared to standard. Yes, they are there, but the microfiber cloth provided removes them easily enough. And if I need to really clean my screen, I can always use the 70% alcohol which works magically on my Nano Studio Display. And when using the Apple Pencil, the difference isn’t as drastic, but it’s there, and it made sketching in Procreate a bit better of an experience. I’ve never used Paperlike, but I can say the Nano does offer a bit of a friction with the pencil that you don’t get with standard glass.
Needless to say, my Standard iPad is getting returned to Apple and I am keeping the Nano iPad. For me, I’d rather take a 2% hit on contrast if it means the viewing experience on my iPad will be drastically better 90% of the time because of no reflections. And for those times I’m streaming YouTube or Netflix before I go to sleep, I’ll never miss the barely noticeable drop in contrast and saturation.
Hope this helps anyone else thinking about getting a Nano iPad. The experience may not be for everyone, but if you’re like me, once you‘re eyes and brain have adjusted to this different type of display, it’s so hard to go back to a display that showcases reflections so much.

I am looking to upgrade from my 2017 laptop with a 1050ti mobile. I was planning on building around a 4070 with a budget of roughly $1500, but found an open box Alienware Aurora R15 for $939, down from the original $2,200 MSRP. Full Specs at bottom. Figured I will just run this and pocket the diference.
Seems like I could not build something comparable without spending more. I have heard that the upgradability would not be easy on this computer. I am just now feeling the need to upgrade my 1050ti mobile, so the 4070 should last me a long time.
I have already purchased the unit, picking up today. I do have a 14 day return window (BestBuy).

I had to build a simple Node.js application, I asked Claude Opus, GPT-4o, and GPT-4 to build it. I used the same exact prompt for all three.
Background Info:
I design websites for clients, and lately I've been feeding the entire text copy of sites into LLM's for new copy inspiration and to give LLM's an idea of what the business is about (to do things like sitemap optimization and creating new information architecture).
But, it's a time-consuming process to manually go in and update all the information. I decided to see if Claude 3, GPT-4, and GPT-4o could build a simple node.js app that would take in a sitemap and then create a full transcript of all of a website's copy, which I could then copy-and-paste into GPT or Claude.
The Prompt I Used:

I'm a web designer working on redesigning several sites for my clients. I need to generate a full text transcript of all the H2's and paragraphs used on their existing sites, but it is time-consuming to manually visit each page and copy + paste the content. Please build me a node.js app that will scrape the entire sitemap of a website, and then extract headings and paragraphs of each page, and then compile it all in one text document. The sitemap will be located on the /sitemap.xml page. On the results page, you should list the entire content in the left hand column and then have a button that says "Copy App" which will copy all the results into the clipboard. Include all H2's and Paragraphs from each page you crawl in the final transcript. Thanks!

Discussion:
Despite trying to nudge both Claude 3 Opus and GPT-4o in the right direction by telling it what was going wrong, both did not fix their errors and instead introduced more errors.
GPT-4 was the only model that got everything right from the first-go *and* made some changes to the code base successfully when I asked it to (I wanted it to exclude all blogs from the final transcript).
I really hope that they do not remove GPT-4 and force GPT-4o on us.
I also used Claude 3 Opus when it first came out and I swear they did something to it to make it worse. I remember it being much more competent at code. I built an entire template showcase marketplace for a popular website builder platform with Claude 3 Opus when it first came out.

I'm a maker, with 12 years of 3d printing under my belt. I used to be a bit wary but the Ender 3 won my heart and became my main printer(s) for years. When I upgraded to K1 & K1 Max, I was impressed with the speed, but losing the ability to use Cura was a problem.
Creality Print 4 wasn't the greatest piece of software ever, it had noticeable bugs and quirks. But it did work (most of the time).
Then I've installed CP 5 to discover that it's not related to CP4. It's like a full rewrite. I'm sure the there must be a post somewhere explaining the reasoning and strategy. Or Creality decided not to share it with anyone - it would be weird but not totally unexpected either.
CP4 already felt a bit weird like they were trying to merge functions of FDM and resin printer slicers. Like the way they were trying to make supports and hollow shells. It didn't make sense, didn't fit the workflow for FDM. So I understand there must be some plan - but it doesn't look like Creality fully understands how to implement it.
CP 5 seems to be based on Prusa SliceOrca. That's not a problem. The big problem is that by doing they're actually re-starting from scratch and lost a lot of the knowledge accumulated over the years. So things that always worked don't work anymore. And worse - there's no consistency. Things may work for some users and fail for others.
One thing that I've heard people say is that Creality often change suppliers for the same model so it's probably guaranteed that my K1 has not the same electronics as everyone else. It makes testing for combinations of firmware and slicers a nightmare and explains why some K1's didn't work with the latest upgrade (it wasn't rooted btw) while others were happy with it.
Last but not last, I've seen complaints here and there, but it seems that even the quality is the reports and analysis isn't the same it used to be. It feels like people are getting used to accepting whatever companies deliver. It's like we forgot it rights as customers. All that want is to have a predictable supplier that is more transparent with their tech, quality, and even a bit of strategy, treating us like customers, like companies used to be before social media melted everyone's brain.

I often think about this. Some of our “heros” especially the ones we strive to be like, if they were in our world, how would they be heros without villains to fight?
Because we live in a world where the villains aren’t so black and white or cinematic, so if we want to be like them we need to find ways that don’t involve punching bad guys in the face, etc.
For example, spiderman is an awesome role model, but take away the powers and the villains, would he just be a normal guy? No, I don’t believe that. He’d be in soup kitchens (lots of times he already is) or engineering prosthetics, solving a problem that way somehow. Still using his gifts.
What are some real world problems (villains) we can strive to conquer, and what skills can we polish to be able to do that (powers).
I’ll go first: I think there is a huge problem in US housing. It’s full of greed and houses seen as investments not shelter.
I would like to start a not for profit that addresses this eventually, even if it’s just a drop in the bucket. I’ll need to learn all sorts of legal skills, the non profit real estate sector, housing codes, etc. It might be a boring example but it’s solving a real problem!

I recently went to Warhammer World with my wife and was picking up some things from the shop for my various armies. I wanted some of the new Space Marine Terminators and thought I'd get the Combat Patrol for a better deal.
Right next to the Combat Patrol was the 40k starter set that had literally everything the Combat Patrol has "minus librarian", loads of Tyranids "I collect them but if you don't you can always sell them" and was a full £30 cheaper.
Not a rant because either got the models I wanted and some more for another army but, it makes no sense! If you're looking at the Space Marine Combat Patrol it's cheaper to get the Start Collecting and buy the librarian separately!

Both if my MINIs have tinted windows, but at work I park in full sun all day and my car is still sweltering at the end of the day. Has anyone found a non-MINI brand screen that works?
I have a 2007 Convertible and a 2015 Countyman S ALL4, so particularly looking for recs for those models, but any suggestions will obviously help the group. I’ve tried a bunch off Amazon and the unique shape of the MINI windshield just doesn’t work. Thank you!

Lenovo model 82WK, Windows 11 pro, 32 gigs of RAM that are consistently 40-50% full with nothing open. Is this normal? What can I do to clear up my RAM?

So I've heard other people getting this as well. The temp gauge goes to full red just out of the blue and then sometimes goes suddenly back to 3 bars and it makes no sense. I've gone through the whole cooling system to eliminate any faulty parts. Everything seems to be in order. I've cleaned the radiator, checked the fan, replaced the temperature sensor (Some models have two sensors, I have only one), taken off the thermostat completely, checked for blockages and such. I installed a separate temperature sensor for the coolant to get the real values and everything seems to be normal there.
I heard this problem might be caused by a faulty second sensor which is responsible for the overheating signal, but since my car only has one sensor and I've changed that already, I dunno where the fault could be. I have peace of mind now that there most likely isn't actually anything overheating but what bugs me is that when the car gives the overheating warning, my AC turns off. So basically I don't have a functioning AC right now.
Also, I'm not sure but the AC might be somehow connected to the problem. I feel like when I turn the AC on, it gives the overheating signal pretty quickly, So maybe something to do with the fan?

God, there's so much evidence of this it's ridiculous. This all lines up perfectly.
OpenAI had a massive breakthrough and has been utilizing that breakthrough to accelerate their workflow. They got AI working on its own development on top of their team. And that's why they haven't released GPT-5 yet, despite it being well over a year since GPT-4. We all know they have it—training finished ages ago, and there's no good reason for them not to have released it yet. They just keep doing iterations of gpt4 over and over, and then on the side they just dropped these ridiculous updates...
Then, we suddenly get this demonstration, and have been getting demonstrations ever since, showing the Sora Video Model, and it's stupid good. Like, light-years ahead of the competition. It's straight-up magical at this point, so far beyond our understanding of what's going on with this stuff. Sora, unveiled February 15, 2024, it's so far ahead of everything else that it's very mind-boggling how they ever could have possibly gotten to that point so fast. It's so fucking good..
And that is exactly what is freaking all of them out big-time. Except not Sam Altman at first—he saw some amount of opportunity for humanity, mixed with seeing the power to be had, and how massive it would be if he came out the other side as a savior for humanity. So he embraced the breakthrough and kept going full force ahead. And he wasn't wrong to do that—it's his Oppenheimer moment.
China is going all in on it, that's for damn certain. Which means we have to go all in on it, safety and precautions be damned as they slow the development of AI down. Falling behind to China could potentially be catastrophic; we need to stay ahead. So of course the Pentagon got involved, working on a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with OpenAI announced on January 31, 2024, to leverage AI for defense purposes. The military saw something that triggered them to get involved, and while they're helping with cybersecurity, you can bet your ass they're leveraging AI to the fullest extent for all their warfare. They kind of need to, or else we're going to fucking die.
Sam Altman has been looking pretty exhausted and always tired during that entire stretch. Now their safety department has completely disbanded. This just happened, and they all got hit with NDAs of one year on their way out, meaning none of them can talk about it or they lose their stocks in the company. So, Sam Altman, instead of recoiling in fear and horror during the lifting of the veil that they were witness to behind closed doors sometime shortly before his ousting, he went the other direction instead and embraced it and was excited for the prospects. That is all because they discovered AGI sometime around the middle of November 2023. And while some of the employees for deeply troubled by all of this and Disturbed and scared perhaps, Altman showed excitement and exuberance over it, hence the entire ousting of Altman in November 2023. And because he showed excitement, I understand why all sides felt as they did and they are rightfully justified. Just before his ousting, Altman mentioned in an interview how they were witnessing significant advancements and saw it as a momentous period in AI development, which he felt honored to be part of: "I can't imagine anything more exciting to work on, and on a personal note, just in the last couple of weeks, I have gotten to be in the room, when we sort of like push the sort of the veil of ignorance back and the frontier of discovery forward and getting to do that is like a professional honor of a lifetime. So, it's just so fun to get to work on that"
With the last update we got, it is very clear that they aren't showing us everything. The products are not quite what we were hoping for, but they are insanely good and enough to keep people happy. The shit they can do with the voice now is getting released to the public next month. It can sing, change vocal expressions, and do all sorts of crazy shit that nobody else is near. We all come to find out later that that was just the beginning of all these updates, we have 3D model generation coming, the dolly image generation that's integrated into it is phenomenal and can do consistent characters and it can do text like nobody's business, it's so fucking good, and then we have insanely fucking fast speeds for these models, you're able to speak to these models and get responses like right away just as fast as a human will respond it's not faster and that it's able to do that it's just so mind-boggling. Just think, you have like a fraction of a second for it to go and like break down everything that you said so have that all transcribed and then take that and then crap the response and then say that out through the audio model. And they're doing this all at insanely fast speeds the text generation is so crazy fast and it is now only half the price of what it was before. This type of progress is nuts, what other industry or what other time of history have we seen progress being made at this pace, there's no comparison this is batshit crazy. And it feels off because things don't quite add up as far as what they are giving to the public and what they very obviously have or should have AKA gpt5 something that is multimodal and is an agent that can go out and do everything.
For them to have all of that and yet not have a model significantly better than GPT-4 from a year ago is silly. They have a model, and it's GPT agents set up to code really well. They can tell these models to go and do things on the internet like creating various accounts, setting up the accounts with APIs, codes, and all of that, and then downloading all the necessary things and setting it up in whichever program. It's like these super assistants that are insanely smart. That's what we should have out there. If Sora is out there, then 100% we should have that, and that is AGI. It can do shit on its own and follow up with tasks and goals in mind. It's wild.

It's like the methods magicians use to figure out other magicians' tricks. You look for what is required to be there and is (like the magician's hat on the table), and what is not required to be there but is anyway (like the curtain covering the space under the table).
But then there's the misdirection—the bullshit and distractions. A company with AGI is going to want to feed it as many GPUs as possible while delaying the AGI announcement. They'll throw smoke bombs, release amazing new products, and make cryptic statements to keep people guessing. Their actions will seem more and more chaotic and unnecessarily obtuse. Customers will be happy but frustrated.
They'll start releasing products that are unreasonably better than they should be, with unclear paths to their creation. There will be sudden breakdowns in staff loyalty and communication. Firings, resignations, vague hints from people under NDAs. And then, the military will suddenly take a huge interest, and all PR from the company will go quiet.
That's when you know it's real. When the curtain comes down, everyone stops talking, but the checkbooks keep opening wider than ever, with investors and state departments pouring in resources. Bottlenecks will be reached for multiple industries. A complete drought of GPUs, etc.
And I'm telling you, with everything we're seeing from OpenAI, it's looking more and more like AGI every damn day.
