Even the Backstreet Boys and Brittney Spears were doing it, and don't forget the GOATs Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. Do i not listen to enough recent music that I'm not hearing it, or has it actually died out? That makes me so sad to think about, it really elevated music IMO.

Hey guys, Zillennial just dropping in. I was born in 1997 (practically 1998). I was a teenager from 2012-2017. I went to middle school from 2009-2012 and high school from 2013-2016. This was shortly after the pop punk boom of the 2000s ended and the careers of musicians like Skrillex and Deadmau5 took off. There was no rock, but rap artists like Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole were really big. Other than that, the only music which I can think of that was popular at the time was "girly music".
You know, Katy Perry was HUGE. Taylor Swift was building her career. Miley Cyrus had some following and Justin Bieber's buss was MASSIVE.
Anyway, none of the boys that I grew up with would be caught dead admitted that they liked any of that music. Socially speaking, you absolutely couldn't. I know that some of you associate younger people with being more socially liberal, but this was still the time when you could call guys the F word. That word, and those like it weren't off the table until 2019 or 2020. Any boy who came to school wearing a Justin Bieber T Shirt would be the target of ridicule. He would be called the F word as if he'd had it written on his forehead in permanent marker.
Girls were a lot luckier. They could like whatever music that they wanted to. If a girl was into "girly music" then the exclamation for why she liked that music was the simple fact that "she's a girl".
So, if likely "girly music" was taboo when I was young, then I can't imagine how taboo it must have been when you guys were young. Did boys deem Christina Aguilera's music "for pussies"? Additionally, what about Brittney Spears? She was also pretty popular back then.

There was a poem I read in high school that wasn't by some well known, classical poet of yore; it really hit me at the time. I have not been able to find it since, and recently it's really driving me batty. I think the poem was called "Cost Effective," and it references celebrities who endured some kind of tragedy due to their fame and/or creativity (I believe both Elvis and Brittney Spears are featured).
The only bit I remember is from the end:
"...forgive me, Mr. Frost / But those who take the path less travelled oftentimes get lost."
Does anybody know what this is from? The internet has NOT helped me.

After owning my first decent pair of speakers for a solid week (Klipsch RP-8000F), I’ve been glued to my listening spot, playing song after song. What I find the most fascinating is that I’ve developed a new love for songs I didn’t care for, or were prior favorites. While my listening space is acoustically erroneous—especially with horns—I pick up on sounds I didn’t know were there, and often find myself grinning ear to ear.
My list thus far: 1. Ribs- Lorde: The imaging and soundstage this song provides is incredibly euphoric. I highly suggest giving a listen, even if the genre isn’t for you. 2. Eye in the Sky - The Alan Parsons Project: The whole album is so pleasing, and the mastering is incredibly immersive. 3. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd: How couldn’t there be a PF song on this list? The acoustic guitar in the intro, and the 2:00 mark are bliss. 4. Won’t Get Fooled Again - The Who: Skip to the 7:00 mark, turn your system up as high as you can without pissing yourself. You could swear Keith Moon is in your living room with his drum set. 5. Scream and Shout - will.i.am & Brittney Spears: Another great testing track. Love the intro. 6. Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac: The highs should be incredibly exhausting, but god they sound good. 7. Dog Days Are Over - Florence + Machine: Again, feels like someone is clapping in my left and right ears. The chorus’ are room filling. 8.Awaken - Big Wild: Genre isn’t for everyone, but a great song to test low end. 9. Tom Sawyer - Rush: Self explanatory. Miller Lite and this song at an obnoxious volume, chefs kiss. 10. Money For Nothing - Dire Straits: Self Explanatory. 11. Flesh for Fantasy - Billy Idol: Bass and guitar sound so supreme in this. Over-mixed? Maybe. 12. Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - The Stones: Keith Richards. 13. Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam: Couldn’t tell you a single word said, but sounds lovely. 14. Hot for Teacher - Van Halen: I can only listen to this like once a month, it’s so exhausting.
I could go on and on, but that’s a gist. Hope this sparks a good conversation!

Give me a fucking break. Pick your top 100 Zeppelin songs and throw out the top 90. Put the last ten on an album and it's one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It's on a list with 2112, Dark Side of the Moon, Back in Black, et al.
If the only song Zeppelin had ever done was Brandy and Coke they'd be the greatest one hit wonder of all time.

What are some concepts you personally just don't like or have grown tired of? Feel free to talk about any concepts from any generation & go into detail about your reasonings.
Anyways, here's some of mine (I'm a girl group stan btw).

• The Innocent/Christian Horse Girl concept - The music is great but I find the concept uninspired & repetitive. I mean, white dresses. flower crowns, & doing the "hands behind your back" or "making a wish" move for an innocent concept? How groundbreaking.
• The Elegant concept - I feel like this concept is the 4th gen equivalent to 3rd gen's obsession with girl crush. It's everywhere but again, bejewelled outfits & glitter for an elegant concept? How groundbreaking. Idk if this makes sense but I would like to companies find other ways to work with the concept (like making it more "imperfect"/"gritty" or shifting the focus away from "oh pretty" if that makes sense).
• the "00s" concept - I don't hate this one but I'm just moreso frustrated with how no one is really expanding on it (except for Midas Touch). The 2000s consisted of a lot of different styles, aesthetics, & sounds beyond just Y2K & pop punk. Where's all the Timbaland, Xtena, Brittney Spears, TLC, PCD, etc inspired music? Where's the metallic outfits, Matrix inspired looks, & retro futurism? Hopefully Midas Touch will bring usher in those themes.

edit: a lot of people seem a bit confused by what I mean with elegant. Basically I feel like a lot of concepts we see nowadays tend to be some variation of elegant (kinda like "XYZ concept"+elegant aesthetics if that makes sense). Usually it's present with the styling & the type of vibes the concept is meant to give off.

okay i have a theory (kinda) as to the writers were trying to subtly hint at the brittana relationship
basically, santana and brittany have the same britney spears fantasy (me against the music”) and they’re in each others fantasy.
then in glee club after, santana says “but i’m not really sure how our fantasies combined” (take note, at this point in time, santana was so deep in the closet i don’t think she even realised she was in jt)
however, later on in the episode, artie says that anestesia fantasies work in a wierd way.
that “it [the anestesia] produces vivid dreams, often the last thing the patient thinks of… since we’ve all been thinking so much about britney [spears] it only stands to reason”
so because anaesthesia is proven to produce a vivid dream of something that the patient has been thinking so much about, santana and brittney were both in each others ‘dream’ and singing a britney song
meaning that the writers were trying to tell us that santana had been in brittany’s mind A LOT and brittany had been in santanas mind just as much.
please tell me this makes sense?? AH but like do you guys see where i’m coming from?
