Uncover the Online Entertainment Market: Trends, Stats, and Insights

Online Entertainment Market Introduction

The global online entertainment market size was valued at USD 419.87 billion in 2023. The market is further projected to grow at a CAGR of 19.30% between 2024 and 2032, reaching a value of USD 2048.33 billion by 2032. In this era of rapid technological advancement, one of the most significant shifts in consumer behavior and media consumption habits has been the rise of streaming services.
Online Entertainment Market
This shift has not only transformed the way we access and consume content but has also had profound implications for traditional media industries such as television, radio, and cinema. In this blog post, we will delve into the impact of streaming services on traditional media through a comparative study, exploring the evolution of streaming platforms, the disruption of traditional media, changes in content production and distribution, viewer behavior and preferences, economic implications, regulation and competition, and future trends and predictions.

Evolution of Streaming Services:

Streaming services have revolutionized the entertainment landscape, providing consumers with on-demand access to a vast array of content anytime, anywhere. The emergence of streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+ has fundamentally changed the way we consume television shows, movies, and other forms of entertainment.
These platforms offer subscription-based or ad-supported streaming services, allowing users to stream content over the internet without the need for traditional cable or satellite TV subscriptions. According to statistics, the number of streaming subscribers worldwide has been steadily increasing, indicating the growing popularity and demand for streaming services.

Disruption of Traditional Media:

The rise of streaming services has disrupted traditional media industries such as television, radio, and cinema in several ways. One of the most significant impacts has been the decline of traditional TV viewership, with more and more consumers opting to cut the cord and switch to streaming platforms for their entertainment needs. This shift has led to a decrease in advertising revenue for traditional broadcasters and cable networks, as advertisers increasingly allocate their marketing budgets to digital platforms with targeted advertising capabilities. Moreover, the proliferation of streaming services has challenged the dominance of cable and satellite providers, forcing them to adapt their business models to compete in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

Content Production and Distribution:

Streaming services have not only changed how content is consumed but also how it is produced and distributed. With the rise of original content creation by streaming platforms, we have witnessed a paradigm shift in the entertainment industry. Platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have invested heavily in producing high-quality original content, including TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more. This has disrupted the traditional content production model, where content was primarily produced by studios and networks and then distributed through various channels. Additionally, streaming platforms have disrupted content distribution channels by securing exclusive rights to popular TV shows and movies, bypassing traditional distribution channels such as DVD and Blu-ray sales.

Viewer Behavior and Preferences:

The advent of streaming services has also influenced viewer behavior and preferences, leading to changes in how we consume and engage with content. One notable trend is the rise of binge-watching culture, where viewers watch multiple episodes of a TV series in a single sitting. This binge-watching behavior is facilitated by the availability of entire seasons of TV shows on streaming platforms, allowing viewers to binge-watch at their own pace. Moreover, streaming platforms use sophisticated recommendation algorithms to personalize the content recommendations for each user based on their viewing history, preferences, and demographic information, further enhancing the user experience and increasing engagement.

Economic Implications:

The rise of streaming services has had profound economic implications for both the entertainment industry and the broader economy. On the one hand, streaming services have created new revenue streams for content creators and rights holders, providing them with additional avenues to monetize their content through subscription fees, advertising revenue, and licensing deals. On the other hand, traditional media industries have faced revenue losses as consumers increasingly shift their attention and spending towards streaming platforms. This has led to job market shifts in the entertainment industry, with layoffs and restructuring occurring in traditional media companies while new job opportunities emerge in the streaming sector.

Regulation and Competition:

As streaming services continue to gain prominence, they have come under increased regulatory scrutiny and faced growing competition from both traditional media companies and tech giants. Regulators have raised concerns about the market power of streaming platforms and their impact on competition, consumer choice, and cultural diversity. Additionally, streaming platforms face competition from other digital entertainment platforms such as social media, gaming, and e-commerce, as well as from new entrants seeking to disrupt the market with innovative business models and technologies.

Future Trends and Predictions:

As we peer into the future of the entertainment industry, it becomes evident that the landscape will continue to evolve at a rapid pace, driven by technological advancements, changing consumer preferences, and shifting market dynamics. Here are some future trends and predictions that are likely to shape the future of the online entertainment market:

Content Fragmentation and Personalization:

The era of mass media is gradually giving way to a more fragmented landscape, characterized by niche content catering to specific audiences. Streaming platforms will increasingly invest in personalized content recommendations and targeted advertising to cater to the diverse preferences of individual users. This trend will lead to a proliferation of niche streaming services focusing on specific genres, languages, or demographics.

Convergence of Entertainment and Technology:

The boundaries between entertainment and technology will continue to blur as advancements in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive technologies transform the entertainment experience. We can expect to see the rise of interactive storytelling experiences, virtual concerts and events, and personalized entertainment experiences tailored to individual users' preferences and interests.

Global Expansion and Localization:

Streaming platforms will continue to expand their global footprint, tapping into emerging markets with growing internet penetration and smartphone adoption. However, success in these markets will require a nuanced approach, including localization of content, pricing, and payment options to cater to local preferences and cultural sensitivities. We can expect to see increased investment in regional content production and partnerships with local content creators and distributors to drive growth in emerging markets.

Hybrid Business Models:

Traditional media companies and streaming platforms will experiment with hybrid business models that combine subscription-based, ad-supported, and transactional revenue streams. We may see the emergence of tiered subscription plans offering different levels of access to content, as well as innovative monetization strategies such as pay-per-view events, merchandise sales, and brand partnerships.

Regulatory Scrutiny and Industry Consolidation:

As the online entertainment market matures, regulators will likely ramp up scrutiny of streaming platforms' market power, data privacy practices, and content moderation policies. This may lead to increased regulatory oversight and compliance requirements, as well as potential antitrust investigations and regulatory interventions. Moreover, we can expect to see further consolidation and convergence in the industry through mergers and acquisitions as companies seek to strengthen their competitive positions and expand their market reach.

Sustainability and Social Responsibility:

With growing awareness of environmental issues and social responsibility, consumers are increasingly demanding sustainable and ethical practices from entertainment companies. Streaming platforms will come under pressure to reduce their carbon footprint, minimize waste, and promote diversity and inclusion both on and off-screen. We may see increased investment in eco-friendly production practices, diversity initiatives, and corporate social responsibility programs as companies strive to meet these evolving consumer expectations.

Emergence of New Platforms and Formats:

The rapid pace of technological innovation will give rise to new platforms and formats for consuming and experiencing entertainment. From social audio platforms and live streaming apps to virtual reality theme parks and blockchain-powered content marketplaces, we can expect to see a proliferation of new platforms and formats that push the boundaries of traditional media and redefine the entertainment landscape.

2024.05.29 07:22 Tall-Proposal2892 Medical bill sent to collections while on state Medicaid

Hey everyone, need some advice. I went to the hospital in FL back in September of 2021 and was treated for strep throat. During this time I was covered under state Medicaid in NH (I was going to school in FL, but a resident of NH). When I went to the hospital I provided them with a copy of my insurance card so they could bill them directly. At this time I only had state Medicaid insurance. Long story short, the physicians bill was sent to the insurance company after 120 days after service so my insurance company denied the claim due to time-refilling. The physicians place ended up billing the insurance company 4 different times and each time the insurance company (NH Healthy Families), sent a denial letter to the physicians place. Well they ended up sending me 2 bills in the mail and after receiving the first bill I called the physicians place and they said I needed to contact my insurance provider so I did. I don’t recall what I was told but I believe it was along the lines of the denial letter may have been sent to the wrong address. Well a couple years letter I received a collections notice in the mail and I mailed back and form disputing it. It ended up going onto my collections and dropped my credit score by about 40 points. I reached out to the debt collected to obtain information as I didn’t even recall what it was for. After receiving the information I needed I contacted the insurance company as well as the physicians billing place. The health insurance company advised they mailed the denial letter to the correct address four times however the physicians billing place claims they never received it. The lady I spoke with from the insurance company advised me they are legally not allowed to bill a patient for a service that is covered under Medicaid and it should have never went to collections. I advised this to the physicians billing place and let them know I was covered under Medicaid at the time I was treated. They said they would “clear the balance” and send a notice to the collection agency however it would take 30-45 days. I’m trying to get a new job right now and I’m extremely worried that the collection notice is going to show up when they run my credit and it will cause me to not get the job, all because they messed up and sent it to collections when I should’ve never even been billed for it. I’m 21 now and I was 18 when I first went to the hospital. I’m just trying to get this resolved in a timely manner so I can hopefully get the new job as well as get this off of my credit report. I’m not sue happy however this is potentially detrimental to me getting the new job, I’ve been trying to get not to mention my credit took a 40 point hit. Would it be worth getting an attorney? Or should I just wait to see if they remove the balance and take the collection off of my credit report. I’m worried with it even being removed my credit will not go back to what it was prior to the collection showing up. TYIA

2024.05.29 06:30 mardian-octopus Can I dispute my medical bills on the basis of not given the right information?

Hi everyone,
I need some advice. I just recently visited my primary care to establish care. During the visit, I was asked to do some blood work. I checked with the nurse, if it will be fully covered by my insurance, they told me that it will be, as part of the preventive care. I even asked them twice.
I then agreed to proceed, only to find out couple weeks later I am now being charged for the that. I called my insurance to clarify, they told me that it is not covered because I was a new patient, the full coverage only applies for established patients. They said it is correctly billed.
My question is: is there any way I can dispute this? I feel like I'm not given the right information, and I only agreed to do the blood work based on the information given to me that it will be covered. I would have declined if they told me otherwise (I was even asked to check for some markers for previous medical condition that I had, and I declined when I was told it is not part of the coverage). I just feel this is very ridiculous, because I did not have any concern or I need my blood tested.
Am I at fault here? if I am supposed to pay because I was a new patient, I think the nurse should have told me that, as they knew I came as a new patient. Unless if I did not ask.
Can anyone suggest what I should do? Thanks.

2024.05.29 06:25 saphirelime opinions on what im about to do next. i dont want sympathy or no's. genuine feedback.

ive posted here before but for some reason my account wouldnt load the messages and requests of the people i was talking to then i made a new account.
Anyways I have decided that June 5th I'll be taking my own life. I put alot of thought and consideration into the matter. I've genuinely had enough.
My breaking point was after my admission was revoked over a fafsa error. I had dropped out of school twice before over financal and mental health reasons.
My mother is sometimes physically abusive and my dad is not in the right head space. He tried killing himself infront of me earlier this year.
ive been blocked by ex friends of 7+ years and have none now. no man either. im actively looking for a job as well rn. hopefully will get hired soon.
I also suffer from extreme episodic outbursts idk what else to call them where i constantly shake and scream until im physically exhausted
it got to the point where i couldnt shower properly anymore without holding on the handle
i cant afford a therapist and the ones covered my by insurance take too long. i cant get on new medications. cant admit myself to the mental hospital because i need to look for work.
i am very exhausted and tired and done with all this fucking shit begging Allah to help me.
I believe in his mercy which is why im going to end my life.
i just dont know what the proper way to say goodbye is. do i write a letter telling everyone how i feel. a video recording ? nothing at all
allow me to do this one selfless act.

2024.05.29 06:00 Beneficial-Horse5644 Can I ask my former GP to destroy a copy of a diagnosis I provided them from a specialist?

My GP no longer accepts my insurance, so I will no longer be under their care. A while back (within the last 2 years) I provided them with a copy of a diagnosis/diagnostic report I received from a specialist for a permanent condition so that my GP could provide me with notes for school/work/etc citing the condition. The diagnostic report is long (10+ pages) and contains lots of personal information. There is no need for my former GP to retain a copy and they were not the ones who wrote/issued the diagnosis. I also owe my former GP ~$250 usd, which I cannot afford at the moment. Last I saw them in January they would not allow me to schedule follow up appointments until the balance was resolved. I’m a little concerned they will try to leverage this if I contact them requesting that they destroy their copy of my diagnostic report. If so, are they allowed to decline my request on that basis and what recourse could I take (i.e. would it be legal for them to do that; if not, what laws could I cite in response)?
Thanks so much in advance!

2024.05.29 05:38 DownPin At Fault Car Accident at Work [KS]

At Fault Car Accident While Working [KS]
Just needed some advice regarding an incident that had happened while at work.
I live in Kansas and my job requires me to drive around the county fairly often. They provided a fleet of cars. The cars are insured by them.
Today I was driving along with a coworker who was in the passenger seat. I was going south and had stopped to make a left turn into a street. The other side of the street had cars backed in their left lane due to a car wanting to take a left lane as well so my view was obstructed. When I thought it was safe and clear to go, I proceeded with a left turn and was immediately hit by a car going north about 35 to 40 mph. From what I can remember my car felt like it spun multiple times. Two car accident. My airbags went off. The driver of the other car stayed in his car until paramedics came and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He seemed disoriented. Our car definitely sustained a lot of damage and I believe it will be totaled. As soon as I recovered from the shock I got out the car to check on my coworker who seemed disoriented and in shock still. I had a bystander call the police. Plenty of witnesses to see what happened. Firefighters came first and then EMS and then the police. We declined an ambulance since I told them that we could get a ride to the hospital (I had my GF come and pick us up). I promptly notified administration at work of the accident and the maintenance man was sent out to tow the car and provide insurance information of the car. Administration also had HR send me workers compensation information to fill out. The police took my statement and had me fill out an accident form. I put the company auto insurance down. I was cited for failure to yield to right of way - left turn.
We then went to the hospital to get checked out since my ankle was hurt and my worker seemed to have a concussion. She and I both provided our personal insurance information. They then learned we were on the clock for work and stated it changes things since it’s considered worker’s compensation.
They ran 3 x rays on my ankle and deemed no fractures or dislocation. I do feel a sharp pain when I fully extend it backwards and forwards. I can walk on it but there is a bit of discomfort. My coworker stated her head really hurt and they had her do a CT scan.
When I got home I called to pay the citation and they said there’s no notice to appear and it’s just a fine.
Is there anything thing I need to be aware of since I was considered at fault by the police? How will this affect my insurance? Will I be needing an attorney? Is there anything I should or shouldn’t be doing?

2024.05.29 05:08 EmilooR Withholding benefits

This is in Idaho but the retail company I work for is based out of California. I was hired in October of last year and was meant to be part time and therefore did not qualify for benefits through this company. Well we need insurance now so I am trying to bump up my hours to full time so I can get a special enrollment period and get benefits. Well my boss made a mistake on my offer letter and marked me as full time which neither of us caught. So now hr is trying to say that because I was offered benefits at hire and because we didn't correct my status early enough they won't give me an enrollment period or benefits and I'll have to wait until open enrollment later this year. Is this legal?

2024.05.29 04:36 Low-Attorney-959 I don’t understand how insurance customers manage to function in day-to-day life…

I mean these are the neediest bunch, in all my years of customer service, I’ve ever dealt with. They don’t understand basic billing breakdown. Can’t even get a crash report online or call the police non-emergency line to get one. I have people ask me what their full term premium is, then ask me to break down monthly. Sure, let me get out a calculator just like you are capable of doing. Six month term. Divide the full premium by six. Boom! There you go. People who own properties and businesses won’t keep record of their payments filed throughout the year. Then they suddenly need us to conjure up every payment receipt for said properties and businesses, at the last damn minute for their taxes. You’d think, being a business/property owner, you’d know to hold onto that shit. For, duh, tax purposes. And those same people will do this to us every damn year because they don’t learn!
I had a lady today get mad at us because she keeps giving her bank the wrong billing account number to pay her bill, and the payment keeps getting returned. But that’s somehow still our fault. Even though her billing account number is on her bill. She has done this on numerous occasions at this point. It’s rather pathetic actually.
We have some of the same customers call multiple times a week. Every week. They never need anything important. I can count on one hand the amount of times I called my agency, before I was in the industry. It just isn’t necessary, in majority of cases, to call your insurance agency more than once every six months to a year or so. Insurance is actually supposed to be rather hands off and self sufficient. But that’s only if you have self sufficient clientele. We clearly do not…
People call wanting us to send their mortgage company proof of homeowners insurance but can’t provide a fax or email for us to send it to. “Can’t you just call my mortgage company and get that? I lost the notice that had that information.” Sure, I’d be happy to sit on hold with your mortgage company for 30 minutes. Never mind it’s just myself and one other person and our phones are ringing off the hook. Many calls will have to go to voicemail, because apparently you can’t be bothered to call your own bank and get the info on a document you lost, yourself.
Their minds are blown over late fees and declined payments fees. And even more mind blown over the fact that paying their bills on time is their own responsibility and trying to blame something/someone else won’t work.
If someone had told me that working as an insurance representative was more like babysitting full grown adults, I’d have stuck with something else. I mean…these people! I don’t know how they know what shoe goes on which foot. They need their hands held through every damn thing.
Y’all are out here operating heavy machinery, owning homes, running businesses…but you can’t figure out your own monthly payments, call your mortgage company, or get on the internet and get a crash report. I can’t with this.
If you’re considering a job as an insurance CSR, may I suggest working in a daycare instead? At least those young people actually have a good reason for needing you. They’re literal children.

2024.05.29 04:28 Ok_Alternative_4300 Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 15x56 vs 2023 new improved updated Japan Burris Signature HD 15x56 vs Vortex Vulture HD 15x56 vs Baigish 15x60 Porro Prism

Today's weather conditions was much better than yesterday which pretty much rained all day non stop.
The Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 15x56 isn't as good as I had initially thought they're good no doubt but not great after comparing these side by side with some other 15x Binoculars today. These gave me eye fatigue much worse than the Vortex Vulture HDs.
The Burris Signature HD is hands down just plain better in every possible way imaginable. These Athlons have a slight haze or fog hindering the image sharpness which I can't quite describe while all of the other Binoculars tested had absolutely none and were just plain clear without any such haze or fog. At closer range under 100 yards the haze or fog isn't as noticeable which initially wowed me the other day because I didn't even glass past 100 yards upon first checking them out in a parking lot probably less than 50 yards. Burris caused zero eye fatigue.
The ScoopX UHDs is also a better and much clearer Binoculars compared to this specific Athlon with zero haze or fog. Yes I also tested them side by side too which is what I normally do automatically whenever I buy another Binoculars. No eye fatigue.
It was rather difficult to get them into sharp focus with this Cronus at all distances compared to the other Binoculars. I don't know if this particular Cronus UHD Gen 2 is just a bad sample of one or if all of them are like this just plain mediocre to sub par in regards to image quality when glassing past 100 yards. OBVIOUS Eye fatigue and stress/strain set in looking through these CRONUS as well during this session.
The way cheaper Vortex Vulture HDs looked very close in clarity in fact a hair clearer sharper without the haze or fog but the Cronus had less noticeable chromatic aberration under high contrast conditions. These Vulture HDs had caused less degree of eye fatigue compared to the Athlon but still contribute to some but not as much eye fatigue.
The Baigish was also close in image quality of say pretty much neck and neck and also didn't exhibit the haze or fog this Cronus had but wasn't as comfortable to glass with because it's just a cheap $160 Porro Prism with uncomfortable hard plastic? eyecups with extremely short eye relief and had some noticeable chromatic aberration under high contrast conditions. No eye fatigue just stressed with having to always have perfect eye placement with uncomfortable eye cups.
This CRONUS also felt the heaviest out of this bunch even if the Vulture HDs supposedly have similar weight on paper.
I didn't even attempt to test them against the Leupold BX5 Santiam because I know they're pretty much neck and neck with the Burris Signature HDs in regards to image clarity if not a hair behind the Burris depending on who's eyes are using them. Leupold had previously given zero eye strain.
Based on this sample of one, I can't recommend buying them and suggest just wait until the Japanese 2023 new improved updated Burris Signature HD goes on sale again for close to $450 again or it's definitely even worth paying $599 for the Burris which is still actually far superior and worth more than these Chinese CRONUS even on sale for $599.
At least the Athlon is supposed to have a lifetime warranty that you have to pay out of your own pocket to ship and insure to send in for warranty unlike Vortex and SIG who even pay for your return for warranty via prepaid return shipping labels.
Typical selling prices- depends on sale
Chinese Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 $599.99-$699.99
Japanese Burris Signature HD $450-$799
Chinese Vortex Vulture HD $400-$500
Chinese/Russian Baigish $155-$160
Japanese Leupold BX5 Santiam $1199-$1399
Personal gripes about this Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 very hard to get into clear focus. Haze/foggy when glassing past 100 yards. Heavy and you actually feel the weight. NOTICEABLE Eye strain STRESS when glassing compared to the others. Eyecups only have all the way out extended or fully retracted just like the 10x42 Cronus UHD Gen 2 with no detents nothing in between. No locking diopter for such an expensive Chinese Binoculars. Eye relief seems shorter than advertised.
Personal likes nice plastic hard case included. Eyecups extend enough for me. Focus wheel feels relatively smooth and even. Included soft case is also nice. Supposedly lifetime warranty. Very clear when glassing under 100 yards under ideal perfect daytime weather conditions. Chromatic aberration is very well controlled.

2024.05.29 04:22 DoNotFearMeGypsy656 Unpopular way to wait out a claim…

Filed my claim for 5 direct claims in February on an ITF 6 months earlier or so. Got out in 2005. Have exactly ONE SC condition - not MH. No DBQs. Didn’t pay for anything. Just STRs, personal statements, a buddy statement, and some private medical opinions from actual doctors I went to go see with my private insurance. Took my time to make sure everything was there. Highlighted portions of my STRs and only sent in the applicable pages, not 500 of them for some poor rater to root through. Never once looked at my claim on the app or the Claims Tracker extension.
Got an email and call maybe a month later about C&Ps from VES. I was on an indefinite work assignment away from home so couldn’t commit to a time/location for the exams because I might get sent home at any moment. No problem, VES said just call the VA when I’m back home to get it scheduled. Did so at the end of March once I got home and was told I’d be put back in the queue for a C&P. Never heard a thing. Between then and now I think I looked at the app twice, just to make sure they didn’t need something. Got a letter that said “we’re working on your claim”. Didn’t care about getting a temp jurisdiction. Never called the VA again. Didn’t waste VERA’s time. Never heard from VES either. I simply waited. Today I’m walking through a parking lot and get a notification of a VA deposit for significantly more than my present rating of 30%. 3 of my 5 claimed conditions were rated positively with SC granted of either 10% or 0%. One was for tinnitus. Now the VA is claiming I never went to my C&P on all of them - even the rated conditions - when in reality it was never scheduled. There’s still work to be done, but I literally did nothing but wait after filing and things worked out just fine.
Your results may vary, but obsessing over things is going to change nothing! Just let it go and let the VA do what they do. Yeah, I’ll do a HLR or whatever to contest the “failure to show for a C&P exam” that was never scheduled. I couldn’t care less what temp jurisdiction my file was at, and you shouldn’t either. It doesn’t matter. Just breathe and wait it out. Your sanity and state of mind will thank you.

2024.05.29 04:22 Delicious_World4785 inconclusive for OSA / REM-only apneas?

did a sleep study at a local hospitals sleep department/clinic.
ive been suffering from fatigue, nightmares, and waking up in the middle of the night /insomnia.
doc suggested a sleep study.
home sleep test didnt show much — and i knocked the pulseox sensor off in the middle of the night
clinic sleep study showed 19 hypopnea events in the 16 minutes of rem sleep i had. 1/hr during non-rem. i fell asleep quickly, woke up after an hour, was up for 3 hrs, and then fell back asleep until 530 when they end the study for everyone. in total i slept 4hrs30min / 55% sleep efficiency.
doc said 16 minutes of rem sleep isnt sufficient to diagnose/get cpap covered by insurance (not a representative sample).
does anyone know if apnea during rem sleep counts as sleep apnea? its not counted in my AHI score. if it counts, how much rem sleep do i need to get diagnosed/covered by insurance. what else should i ask my doctor?
Baseline SaO2 Level 96% Minimum O2 Saturation 90.0% Recorded Sleep Time 4.1 Hours Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) 1/hr Apnea Index (AI) 0.0/hr Hypopnea Index (HI) 1.2/hr Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI) 4/hr AHI on supine position 1/hr AHI during REM sleep 19/hr

2024.05.29 04:18 Underthymattress 10 year old daughter received a debt collector letter; what can I do?

I took my daughter to urgent care in January, and received a third party bill for a brace (the urgent care had me sign a third part disclosure form with completely different pricing than I was billed from the third party - they are a Medical device company). I was in contact regarding that bill and was awaiting follow-up from them. Last email I sent them was on 5/6/2024. Last time they responded to me was March 2024.
Today I received a letter from Hollis Cobb Associates addressed to my child who is 10 years old; to collect the debt within the next month. Total amount of debt if $69.00. Parent names are not present. The vendor billed against 'guardians of X'.
Anything I can do here? I'm shocked the originating office sent me to collections given I was in the middle of contact with them; and never received a final notice bill either.
Does this have any future impact on her, or me even if I pay it off? I. NJ if relevant. It was billed via my medical insurance which they said the deductible was billed to me.
I do have access to lawyers via legal plans at work which include debt matters. I called insurance as well as they said they can get involved with the vendor directly as well if that could help.

2024.05.29 04:11 samicakes28 I got 2 letters from a debt collector, what should I do?

Last Thursday, I got 2 letters from a debt collector for a supposed unpaid bill from a couple of medical procedures in 2019. One letter said I owed almost $4k however due to the age of the debt, they couldn't sue me. It said the date of service was April 2019. The 2nd was $600ish and said the date of service was June 11, 2019. That one did not say they couldn't sue me.
To my knowledge, I have received no other letters regarding the debts, not from the hospital or any collection agencies until now. I do recall the procedures, I just figured my insurance covered everything since I never got a bill.
Do I ignore the letters, or go ahead and pay them? I am in Oklahoma. I really don't want to restart a timer on the debt, if I don't have to.

2024.05.29 04:06 True-Enthusiasm-9448 A drunk driver my husband and I serious bodily injuries. In Florida

I am reaching out to seek guidance and support in light of a distressing situation my husband and I have recently endured. We were involved in a severe collision caused by a repeat offender, the perpetrator being a driver with a prior history of DUI incidents. Regrettably, the injuries we sustained were profound, exacerbating an already challenging circumstance.
Compounding our ordeal, the driver lacked adequate insurance coverage, leaving us vulnerable to significant financial strain. Despite our efforts to secure legal representation, we encountered setbacks, with two legal professionals declining to take on our case. Undeterred, we have recently engaged another attorney in exploring avenues to hold the insurance company accountable for insuring a driver with a history of DUI offenses, compounded by the absence of a valid driver's license at the time of the collision.
It is paramount for us to find resolution and accountability amidst the anguish, suffering, and enduring physical impairments we now face. Additionally, we seek clarity regarding potential criminal charges the driver may face, given that this marks their second DUI offense.
Your assistance and insights in navigating this challenging juncture would be deeply appreciated, as we grapple with the emotional, financial, and physical toll this incident has exacted upon us.
Thank you for your attention and support during this trying time.

2024.05.29 04:04 Sea-Town-3631 Looking for some help

Hi!
So I’ve been on Mounjaro for about two years. I had horizon bcbs, but then I left my job. I applied for state insurance just so my kids could have some, but I knew Mounjaro wasn’t covered by it so I never tried to get a script while on it. When My fiancé and I got married, we all hopped on his insurance (Aetna) and I called the state insurance to remove us.
I saw a new doctor who gave me a script for Mounjaro. I was denied by united health care. I never once had united health care even with state insurance so no clue where that came from. I went to cvs and told them I gave them the wrong insurance card (gave them Aetna when it should have been my express scripts card). They told me to tell the provider that sent in my script and for them to send another prior authorization but this time to express scripts.
They claimed they did and it still says it’s pending like weeks later. I asked the provider (which is a tele doc) what’s going on and they said I was denied as of (date I was denied with united health care). I told them that was the wrong one and it was resubmitted to express scripts on may 14th. They came back saying that was also denied but I never received a denial letter from anyone about it.
My husband has insurance through his union so it’s weird and has to go through them to get processed. So I plan on emailing them tomorrow asking if they can see anything on their end.
My question is, can this tele doc be lying to me so I buy their compounded medicine? Sorry I know this is long just confused and sick of making a million phone calls and going in circles.

2024.05.29 04:00 Odtoast Stomach issues taking over my life!

Hi. This is quite a long post so please bear with me. I could really use some help. I’m gonna put as many details as I can in here.
Background details on me: I, (24 F) live in the UK. I’m generally healthy but slightly on the overweight side (my weight has fluctuated for as long as I can remember but the switch from on your feet retail work to office work has affected my weight) Ive never had any serious health issues apart from a blood clot on my lung when I was seventeen. Despite only being 24 - I am a recovered alcoholic. Over a year. My most recent liver function test was fine. I’ve given up cigarettes for almost two years and occasionally vape as a replacement (I know it’s terrible - I am trying to stop). I do not take drugs and am over 3 years drug clean.
My family history: on my mums side three generations have had cervical cancer. On my dad’s side stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer runs rife. My dad himself has a stomach issue called colitis.
The issue: Around eight months ago I started having these ‘pain episodes’. Always at night, never a specific food triggered it. About once every two weeks. This pain was on my left side underneath my ribs and lasted around five hours a time. It was too much to sleep but I could concentrate on a TV show if I wanted too. I originally passed it off as acid reflux but as it persisted I decided to go to the doctors. They felt my tummy. Asked me some questions about my diet and further said it was acid reflux. I was reccomended a common antacid and sent on my way.
Afew more weeks pass by and this pain persists. I now notice with every time it’s getting worse. I think to myself ‘surely acid reflux does not get THIS bad’. The pain episodes start lasting for around 7 hours. Does not matter whether I’m sitting, standing, laying down. Anything. I also noticed alongside this I felt I had a lot of trapped wind or like I needed to use the toilet without the ability too.
I went back to the doctor. They were annoyed I was back again with this issue but they listened. They now decided it could be a bout of gastritis caused by H.pylori and ordered me to submit a stool sample and IF it came back positive I’d be given antibiotics but they told me to eat bland food. Not spicy and not fried in the meantime. Which I did. This test came back negative and I was not contacted about any next steps.
More time goes by. I stick to the bland foods. The pain gets worse. I begin to get a lot of swelling in my upper abdomen when it comes. These episodes begin happening every other day. The only thing that makes me feel better? Forcing myself to vomit. And trust me, I’m not proud of it. But I tried hot water bottles, cold compresses, every position possible, antacids, encorperating more movement in my everyday. What else could I do? Once I realised the vomiting made the pain go away - that’s what I would do as soon as I felt it. I needed to be able to sleep because I had work early. I couldn’t be up all night in pain.
One night. I have a specifically terrible episode and end up in A&E. this time the vomiting didn’t help and actually made it worse. I now notice a little hard lump on my upper left abdomen that is there constantly. A&E take my blood and the results come back that my liver function is ever so slightly elevated. They feel my tummy. Tell me it’s gastritis. Send me home. By that point the pain subsided and I was exhausted. I wasn’t going to fight it.
I wake up the next day and the first thing I do is get a doctors appointment. I ask for the same doctor as last time. I give her all my symptoms. She notes the fact that I’ve noticeably lost weight since the last appointment. She feels my tummy and decides to refer me for an abdominal ultrasound to check my pancreas, liver, gallbladder and stomach. She also ordered blood tests to check me for celiac disease (again negative) and my liver again (it had returned to normal)
I waited for two months to get a refferal letter. As I write this - the scan date is just shy of a month away.
During this time. The pain has increased to daily. I vomit almost daily because it makes the pain atleast bareable verses unable to talk, or breathe, horrific pain. I went to A&E twice over it, nothing was done. I went to urgent care. They prescribed me lanzoprazole 30mg (one a day before food) hyoscine butylbromide 10mg (2 tablets 4 times a day). It helps, occasionally. I also still can’t go to the toilet and when I can (maybe once a week) it’s a real struggle. The movements are light in color.
I am always pale. I am always tired. My blood pressure is lower than normal for me but still in normal ranges
Basically. Any ideas of what this is? Anyone with similar stories. Are my doctors doing enough? I’m not convinced it’s gastritis or acid reflux. I’m doing everything I can. But this is getting pretty hard to live with.
Thankyou everyone.

2024.05.29 03:59 death-slayerr The Netherlands Schengen Visa Experience (NYC)

Schengen Country: The Netherlands Applied from: VFS New York City, USA Nationality: Indian Visa Result: Received a 1-Year Short-Stay Mulitiple Entry Visa Bio: 26 M (Single/Unmarried)
Hi All, I thought I should share my experience and profile as it might be helpful for people applying to The Netherlands in USA.
Some more background (For OPT/STEM OPT Students): I am an Indian National on F1 Visa, and I am currently under OPT working for an employer in NYC, with a pending STEM OPT Application. My current OPT work auth expires in the first week of July and my travel date is from 17th July - 28th July. While submitting the application my STEM Work Auth was not approved and was pending.
Planned Trips: I have two trips planned this year. The first being the Tomorrowland Music festival, where I would visit Belgium and The Netherlands from 17th July - 28th July as mentioned above. Second trip would be in December to Norway for approx a week.
Main Destination: After going through this sub, I figured that I should show Netherlands as my main destination as they are the only country that has been handing out 1-year multi entry visa. This would cover both my trips and I would not need to apply again for my second trip. I even called the consulate and told them about both my trip and they said that they would consider to provide me 1-year visa as long as I have my second trip listed on my cover letter.
Application Documents: I prepared all the documets that were listed on the VFS Website.
Cover Letter: This is a very very crucial part of my application. I listed my travel plans, my previous travel history (I have been to 6 countries), intention of coming back and strong finances. The consulate told me to mention both trips in the cover letter and I did that. kept everything in under a page.
Yes I know I have showed way more than what is needed and required. its usually very easy to get a visa from USA, but here are the two reason why I went the extra mile:
VFS Process and Timeline: VFS is a fucking horrible. Just wanted to put it out here. Finding a slot was a little messed up. The VFS website goes down almost every eveing and you don't see any slots at all, even though they have slots available. I booked a slot for May 10th in the last week of April. They had plenty of slots, so finding one based on your preference was not an issue.
Anyone has any question, feel free to ask me anything! I hope everyone applying gets their visa!! All the best!

2024.05.29 03:56 jacobc1212 2 Job Offers, which should I choose (if either)? (Long)

I’m a recent graduate located in Texas with a BS in Mechatronics Engineering Technology. I have 2 companies interested in me, neither focusing on robotics. I don’t mind this because the education earned from this degree provides me with the resources to learn many different skills for jobs. I prefer design engineering but I’m open to other jobs as well. The conundrum: 2 companies are interested and I’m looking for advice as to what things I should consider before accepting an offer from either. One company is located in a large city and is a project management position for a construction consulting company. This company is offering $70k/year with 401k matching and insurance and whatnot. The specifics of these benefits aren’t clear yet until they send the offer. They say the 70k is not negotiable. I like the company and the team, and the job is easy and offers room for growth and progression. The second company is located in a VERY small town, which is nice because of the lack of traffic and low living costs. This one is offering a range from 75-85k/year with benefits and whatnot and it is a design engineering position. I like the team almost as much as the other company team, and the job seems more challenging and I think the room for growth is greater. I’m leaning towards the design engineering job even tho I think it will be more difficult. I’m looking for advice on things to do more research on before accepting an offer. How can I negotiate for the higher range of the salary for the second company without making the company less interested in me? Should I tell/remind the companies that I have other companies interested in me? Should I decline both offers and wait longer to see if I get a better offer from other companies? If you can’t tell by now, this is a big decision for me and I’m stressing quite a bit. Sorry for the long post but I appreciate any advice before taking a big step in my life. Thanks ahead of time.
