My party (and me specifically, since it's highly tied into my backstory) are about to have a tense, Tarantino-esque conversation with an ocean god. First plan is to try and use persuasive arguments to get them to back down from their designs. Maybe it'll work. Maybe it won't.
If it won't, I had some ideas, and I wanted to see what the median consensus is on a few shenanigans I was going to try in the meantime.
1: I have a folding boat, some homebrew runestones that cast a watered-down version of Meteor Swarm, and I can cast Mage Hand Legerdemain (Arcane Trickster). Before even making myself known, I want to have the mage hand hold up the runestone, on TOP of the buttoned up folding boat (combined weight ~ 5 pounds). It'd hold this up until talks start to go south, at which point, I would say the code word to open the folding boat to its max size and let it drop down (mage hand can't support it anymore), presumably doing substantial falling damage to them, along with breaking and thus setting off the runestone's spell. I could misty step away just before it falls (technically, I'd have 1.41 seconds to react if it's falling from 30 ft - max for mage hand).
Q.1. Some estimates of the weight I've seen of a fully open boat are between 6000 - 18000 pounds. That *HAS* to do more than 1d6 falling damage per 10 feet, right? If it were your game, what would your ruling be?
Q.2. Would you count them as being *surprised*?
Shenanigan the 2nd: Mage hand can't technically do any attacks. But can it wedge itself into the mouth of someone, not to choke them, but to prevent them from saying the verbal part of a spell out loud? Might be handy in a pinch against a brutal spellcaster.

Hello there! Welcome to a tale of not so horror, but rather....weird shit. I have been a fan of Den of the Drake for a while, which thank the gods, since his videos helped me learn that no dnd is better than bad dnd, and this one was REALLY bad, and I am not solely talking about the dm here either folks, no I am talking about this whole crew. Names changed for obvious reason
The Cast
Me-A Water Genasi Bard who worshipped the Goddess Umberlee
Lich-A wizard who was basically trying to be the secret bbeg, but the dm just kinda ruined it for him
Dragon-A Silver Dragon taking on the form of a person (I do not remember much about his character since he wasn't involved much, but the dude is someone I won't forget for what he did)
Fairy-A Fairy Cleric...or a Bard? I do not remember their class, but they were honestly very annoying to play with.
Dm- The Dm
Back in the year 2021, I was looking for a game to play in on Facebook since I got hit with the nasty bug of Ttrpgs. Whereupon I met the dm and he invited me to join his group of players on their discord server. We got my character set up, as well as his backstory which to summarize; Lost his parents in a storm at a young age, raised by a cult, is now traveling to find the person he has a crush on who stole an artifact. Mind you we were not in person, or using a vtt, but rather using theatre of the mind, and dndbeyond or at least I was, some of the others were using physical dice.
First Session was fine, no real red flags, besides the group being consisted of almost 7 people which to me was a bit much for a newbie, but at the time I didnt see this as something bad. Second Session started and thats when things took a turn for the creepy, see while with 7 people there is bound to have people talking over people so it is hard to understand when people are talking, but thats where Dragon comes in. See Dragon apparently had concubines with him, who......pleased him so to speak. Then he started chatting with the dm about trying to make sure one of the concubines bore his child, which for me felt VERY uncomfortable to listen to. I did chat with the dm about how this made me feel uncomfortable and he did bring it up in the next session which props to him.
The next couple of session were mostly fine, no real complaints. Biggest pain was Fairy constantly talking over people, and when I say talking I mean yelling into their mic! I couldn't understand what they wanted half the time since they started speaking when others were already talking, and their mic couldn't keep up with their volume so it sounded like a jumbled mess, but we pressed on forward, as my character had a backstory moment where he learns some things about the Goddess he worships.
So one thing to point out about the dms world is that the lore is very akward. Umberlee wasn't called Umberlee but was called Eirlys in these lands, and Umberlee is her evil persona? Orcus was a commander of demons who was in a relationship with the Queen of demons, who is the adoptive mother of a being of chaos? Who was just a PC from a previous campaign. I say this now to give context for what happens later.
So the meeting goes fine as we discuss about Umberlee, where the topic of the person he has been searching for comes up where its revealed she is actually looking for me and is a different continent all together. Also my parents aren't dead but rather trapped in some weird dimension thing, it was never explained in any way. Now this should be a defining moment for him since he learned things that would impact his world view, so what happened? Commence screaming matches about what everyone wants to do.
More weird stuff happens, we go into a underground part of a volcana with running water that steamed up the place? We meet some Fire Newt people where they worship Dragon who he secretly turned into his dragon form (He wanted it to be secret for some reason) and they gave us a quest to find magical objects floating around us. Which we do and we find out that these are just literal Wish Spells and mind you, we arent even level 4 yet!
This post is going a bit longer than I expected, and we haven't scratched the surface on how weird this gets. Imma go collect my thoughts and I will be back with Part 2

I don’t know how to write this question without giving too much context, sorry in advance. Skip to the last paragraph if you want to avoid my more than likely unnecessary rambling. Legitimately, I’m so sorry this is as long as it is.
I would post this to /Worldbuilding, but my recent post there got deleted because I was “asking for ideas,” so I’m a lil bit skittish now. I understand I broke a rule, I just don’t know how to use that subreddit now lol
Anyways, onto the context behind the context of the problem: Right now I’m working on a races rewrite so that the campaign can more accurately reflect the world I have in mind, specifically wanting a human-centric (but not isolated) game with a reduction of the European influence in a pre-medieval, high fantasy world. But before you say it, I know just how dangerous it is to attempt to represent a human culture in a game’s “race,” and that it can easily fall into racism and stereotyping, but trust me when I say I do know what I’m doing in that respect. I’m a person of color, I married a immigrant person of color, I’ve (non-traditionally) studied race sex and class as well as anthropology and history, what I’m doing is not what would traditionally see of “This race is better at stealing, so they get a +10 to their stealing skill” or anything horrible like that. The “subraces” are actually subcultures, and of the 7 I have only 1 of them has a trait that has anything to do with their physical appearance (my “definitely not germanic/nordic vikings” are predisposed to being large and can carry more because of it), all the remaining traits are something that the culture prioritizes and would likely teach to those who’ve been raised within it. Like for example the Kourakan (more below) get the Kenku’s taunt trait because I don’t know if you’ve ever been to west africa or the caribbeans but if you get roasted by them mufus then you’re gunna be thinking back on that for a decade at least cuz that’s gunna hurt your *soul,*** and if you’re raised in that then odds are you know how to do it too.
Just want that to be very clear and out of the way so it doesn’t have to get brought up in the comments, I already understand the hurdles and am already planning accordingly.
Now the context behind the problem: So like I said, I have a 7 different subcultures of Humanity. I have more than just humans as well, for example my version of elves and dwarves (pretentiously named the Aelfs and Duards) and a few “monstrous and demihuman” bloodlines, which are what happens when humans get busy with some supernatural creatures or one of the non-humans. But with the 7 human subcultures I’m actually pretty proud of how they’re turning out, they each have a vague inspiration from real history, but are placed within the context of the story and world well enough that I feel like they’re unique and somehow non-anachronistic.
Like, for example, one of the groups I have is called the Kourakans. These people are heavily inspired by caribbean cultures (getting their name from my wife’s home country of Curacao), kind of like an alternative take on the slave trade and haitian revolution. There was an attempt to create a slave class as the Hadrian Empire (name pending, more on them in a second) needed low cost man-power to expand their reach into the neighboring continent of Gonwanda. This fortunately did not take, and lasted maybe a generation before there was revolting, where the now ex-slaves are taking over the coastal plantations, port towns and slave ships. The Hadrians would fight back, but they’d be dealing with 10,000 problems at the time and couldn't divert too many resources to stop them. While some Kourakans would return to their ancestral home, most would stay to help build the city of Libertalia, meant to be an anarcho-afro-fantasy utopia that prided itself on individual autonomy and commerce but some would argue instead became a lawless pirate hellhole filled with cutthroats and vagabonds (Oh no I broke rule 4). In truth it lies somewhere in between, but a lot of the outward perspective of Libertalia is tinted with Hadriatic propaganda.
The Hadrian Empire (name is still pending) is actually the crux to my issue that I’m having right now. They are obviously my “totally not romans,” their claim to fame is that they united the warring tribes of the continent under a single banner, built roads and walls and generally brought the world into the next modern era. This is mostly propaganda, they’re really an imperialist nationalistic ethnostate that’s probably closer to the Fire Nation at best and Nazis at worst. I’ve been playing a lot of Helldivers recently so they might have tipped the scale in that direction a little bit lol. They ruled the continent for about 940 years, but collapsed after a string of catastrophes, failures, infighting, famine, plague and invasions. It’s been about a century since the fall of the empire, and a New Hadriatic Empire (again, name pending) has risen from the ruins of the old now vowing to restore what was lost (now the “totally not Holy Roman Empire or First Order”)
Okay, finally my actual problem: Back to the Races rework that this is originally about, I didn’t want to completely get rid of the Default Human option with my race rework and instead left the 7th to fill that same role. Meet the Centrans (name pending), they are about as “default” as I can accept, their backstory is that they are a people that just refused to conform to Hadriatic rulership. There once was an original tribe of Centrans, and where the Vargr would actively raid and fight against Hadriatic oppression, the Centrans simply just would be non-conforming. They’d still practice their ancestral beliefs even when outlawed, they’d poach forests and dam rivers as they pleased, they’d travel without papers and just in general partied in the cracks and blindspots of society. But over time it became less of a tribe and more of a movement, anyone could become a Centran all you had to do was adopt the idea of “do what you want.” Now they're the outcasts, the undocumented migrants or nomadic wanderers, and then once the empire collapsed they changed again as the name began being adopted by everyone as the anti-thesis of Hadria. If you weren’t a noble elite when the empire fell then you’d be considered a Centran by default, simple as that.
It’s kind of similar to the pan-african movement, where people would celebrate their african heritage but often not the culture or practices of any individual people and combine aspects of Africa in ways that just don't make sense (looking at you waterfall scene in black panther 1). Also, at this point in my timeline most people would be unaware of their ethnic origins and unable to claim themselves to be from a specific region or tribe anymore, so instead they claim themselves as one of the only tribes to have survived the near millenia long rulership. Notably they are not a romani stand-in, but you could easily make a romani-like group if you wanted for your own story if that was the character you’re wanting.
SO THEN MY QUESTION:
Each subculture is getting about a page or page and a half primer with cultural practices, history and internal threats that a player can use to build off of to understand the flavor of the subculture beyond just being told a 2 paragraph history and some starting traits. And I’m pretty good on the rest of these subcultures, but the Centrans whole thing is that their culture doesn’t exist anymore and is instead just whatever you want it to be. So I’m having a really hard time with this, and don’t want to just leave the page blank and say “write it in yourself” because that’s how you get Generic Fantasy Village #4 or Generic Fantasy Orphan Turned Rogue Who Steals From The Rich To Give To Himself. I don’t know exactly what it is that I’m asking for, I just need some help on how to write a “default” culture while allowing them to keep some unique individualism. Honestly I might just have to wait until I’m done with the other 6 subcultures just so I can show those screenshots with the complete context and not just my attempt to simplify it while somehow also overcomplicating it.

Here's why:

1. They're saying he sounds "tired", "defeated" and "at only 1 hp" but Drake has used this same exact dejected while disrespectful tone on so many tracks, most recently on 7am in bridle path when responding to Kanye during the CLB vs Donda rollout.
   
2. But that's one of the lyrical cuts, it never touched radio and in the mainstream media's eyes Drake is a pop rapper, a soft one at that.
   
3. Songs like God's Plan/One Dance/In My Feelings/Work/Hotline Bling alone are much bigger than the entire AM/PM series or :

1. So for the casuals who listened to his huge singles and his Spotify top 30 most streamed songs, he's just a soft singepop rapper who tries to do neither very well and can easily be stepped on by any "real rapper".
   
2. But for Kendrick, every song you click on is purely rap and is full on rap at that, you put Drake's whole discography on shuffle and you'll only get one bar heavy Drake in his rap bag song for every 8 Nice for What's that'll get pulled up.
   
3. So Kendrick is pure hip hop, and Drake is just a part time rapper who is barely even decent at it, and judging only from songs like God's Plan or Nice For What you'd be correct to make that statement.
   
4. So when this battle gets brought to the door, the winner is already picked, they know Kendrick will cook him because all they've seen Kendrick do is cook and Drake is seen as a sissy lil soft in his feelings simp semi-rapper because of his diamond certified sad boy RnB cuts anyway.
   
5. But this is how the notion that Drake stands absolutely 0 chance against Kendrick was already set in and it's crazy to say if you've heard Drake being lyrical, Kendrick has him beat on layers on layers and conceptuality and just the performative aspect of it, the creativity and theatricality on his records is unheard of, BUT he's technically not a better rapper than Drake.
   
6. Crazy take? I'll explain. How a rapper's technicality at lyricism is judged is by how many intricate rhyme schemes they can put in back to back, and how many syllables they can rhyme in.
   

The most I've seen anyone do is Eminem on a song called "Stay Wide Awake", he rhymed 14 syllables for 12 bars straight. That's 14 complete sentences that rhyme with each other but you can't expect Kendrick's white fans or Drake's, to understand that or catch what the fuck is rhyming with what when they're the type to say:
"He just rhymed "nigga" with "nigga" 4 times while ignoring everything before the nigga was ACTUALLY THE SHIT THAT WAS RHYMING, the nigga was just at the end to address the person, the "nigga" in question."
I'll give a quick example;
"Adonis is a shitty son for me, Jenna Platonic is too difficult for me, Jenna I promise it's mythical to me, Jenna I'm honest, it's really blunt to me, Jenna"
Here, /Adonis/Platonic/I promise/I'm honest rhyme with each other (It's called a vowel/slant rhyme)
And/shitty son/difficult/mythical/really blunt rhyme with each other (again slant rhymes)
And the words in between that are being repeated in between (is and it's) are just connectors between the two rhyme schemes.
Saying "for me, Jenna" at the end of each bar makes the goofies (like you, yes you) think these rappers are rhyming the same thing with the same thing while not knowing what the fuck happened just before their very eyes (i mean ears).
Rhyming can be a lot more complex than how the average joe thinks "bucket" rhymes with "fuck it" or maybe if they're a little smarter they'll think "Plane Crash" rhyming with "Dame Dash" is the peak of it.
The most I've seen Kendrick do in terms of just straight blasting through the syllable count while rhyming the whole thing (for the most part) in a clear as fuck cadence was on Mona Lisa:
"Ah, every day she wake up with a different color makeup And a promise he gon' take her to the movie and the mall Chilling with the Laker, on the floor, fourth quarter For a minute on the clock, Black Mamba with the ball"
Now there's some "gaps" here and there to connect the internal rhymes but he has such great cadence here it all sounds like it's rhyming when the unstressed/unrhymed syllables are not the focus anyway.
But most of the time he'll just do this:
"The Eloheim, the REBIRTH Before you get to the father you gotta holla at ME FIRST"
Here only "rebirth" and "me first" rhymes, that's the bare minimum by Eminem standards but he makes up for it with the delivery, the energy and the message.
Or this;
" come from the seventy / guns and the melody " at most (6 syllable rhyme scheme but not that impressive, it's quite easy to think of)
When he says "for all your dogs getting buried..... you gon see pet cemetary...."
It's only "buried" and the "..ary" part at the end of the cemetery being rhymed here, again only 2 syllables, substandard if we're talking technical lyricism.
But that's not a dig at him, Pusha T is even worse at this but you know his shit is always quality, you don't have to rhyme crazy to rap crazy.
But it's definitely a crazy plus if we're talking who's a better rapper.
Drake gets much deeper than that, I've heard him lay 6 syllables rhyme schemes back to back and in creative ass ways I didn't think of myself. Because once you're only rhyming in vowels, the possibilities are endless (to make something great or to fuck up lose focus and rhyme random shit for the fuck of it like recent Eminem)
But he stays making quality ass quotables with those very same rhymes.

Now if all of that went over your head and you couldn't break up the syllable sounds in your head and see how everything lined up with everything before, here's a quick 4 syllable rhyme scheme;
Oh please, take it ease, where's the LOVE AND THE PEACE? Why you rappin' like you COME FROM THE STREETS? I got a backyard where money seems to COME FROM THE TREES And I'm never ever scared to get some BLOOD ON MY LEAVES Phantom slidin' like the shit just hit a PUDDLE OF GREASE I cook the beef well done on the DOUBLE WITH CHEESE Special order for anybody that's COMIN' FOR ME Shit, you probably flinch if SOMEBODY SNEEZE
Not super crazy, but look at how he set those rhymes, that shit is plain masterful, the sneak disses, the mockery, the flexing, the belittling of Kanye there (and Kendrick lmao), rhyming crazy with purpose is what counts, not for the fuck of it.
Do you think "Curtis Jackson" rhymes with "Nothing rational"? It does.
Kendrick does this VERY little, which is an artistic choice I understand, he's more focused on the message and the layers to the lyrics but if it was purely lyrical skill judged by a computer that only knew rhyme schemes and how much rhymed with how much, Drake takes that round very easily, he's like a machine at rhyming and Kendrick is a expressionist painter of his time.
One is pure dedication to the craft and calculated lyrics and one is making sure how much meaning you can put in one line and how much depth is there to it.
It's not to say what Kendrick does is a cop out and is easy, it's just that he very rarely rhymes crazy, and abandons it in favour of having more meaning. And Drake is more focused on rhyme schemes and creating quotable luxury raps.
Now the problem is the ghostwriter allegations. But here's why they don't have legs to stand on.
Wayne has admitted to Drake writing for him.
Kanye has went on record to say 20 ghost writers can't do the work that just getting Drake in a room can do.
(You think Kanye the perfectionist will let a goofy ass mf write for him when it's crunch time if he wasn't the absolute best?)
He literally wrote 30 hours for him AND a big part of Father Stretch My Hands for him.
Jack Harlow casually told the world it took Drake 15 minutes to write the Churchill Downs verse (and that shit is top 5 verses from him this decade)
Rick Ross has admitted to admiring Drake's pen and you know how Rick crashes out on them luxury raps, there's no limits to man's quality, he's like Pusha on Steroids (except for when he talks about putting Molly in her champagne without her even knowing it)
The biggest proof: He dropped Duppy Freestyle hours after Infrared came out, you really think a ghostwriting team can be assembled and told to write it first, send references, tell Drake how to land every rhyme and record it exactly mimicking the whole thing and put it on streaming in like 4 hours? NO.
Now Quentin did write for Drake, that's true, but in the reference tracks we've heard, how much did he actually use? About 20-30% of what he came up with. He believed in the guy to cook something good and then he took it from there for the final studio version of the song.
Now is it honorable? NO. All of it should be done by you and you alone. But does it mean Drake can't write on his own? Ask yourself that unbiasedly.
Drake has ghostwrote for so many in the industry, he doesn't need help, he was just lazy with Quentin and wanted some work put down before he started putting his and take it from there, still not condoning using anybody else's pen for a bit but acting like he's a "scam artist" is beyond me, he's a student of the game and it shows.
And about him stealing flows? It's not as uncommon as you think. Jay Z has a ton of Biggie flows on his older records. Kanye got so many Chi town rapper flows on his first 3 albums. Eminem literally started with Nas' flow, J. Cole sounded exactly like Nas and Em at the beginning and he admitted to that, there's no shame in it.
And, be honest you've seen a lot more rappers stealing (we call it using) Drake's flows in their own shit (Vic Mensa, Travis Scott, even J. Cole recently) and he never got salty about it because hip hop is a referential sport, you put your own spin to it and as long as you don't completely rip it off, it's completely fine.

A Sailor Moon inspired legacy challenge for the Sims 4
I have always enjoyed playing Legacy Challenges and wanted to one day attempt to make my own. While I am certain there are Sailor Moon Legacy challenges out there, I couldn't find one that suited my fancy, so I decided to create my own updated version. I'm also trying to utilize as many packs/occults/gameplay that I don't usually use. I am currently on gen 8 of my not-so-berry challenge, so I'll probably tackle playtesting this once I get close to finishing that one. But if anyone has feedback beforehand or knows if something doesn't work or just feels that the character inspiration doesn't really fit the generational goals, I would love the input.
Basic Rules:

1. Money cheats can be used, but I wouldn't recommend using it extensively since that's half the fun. But who am I to tell you how you'd like to play
2. Mods and CC are okay to use. Feel free to make the heirs look as similar or as different than their counterpart.
3. You may live wherever you please unless something is specified in the rules of a generation.
4. All heirs must have a human lifespan unless otherwise stated. Heirs can be either male or female. Just because you're a Pretty Guardian, doesn't mean you have to be a girl. c:
5. You may have as many children and you'd like unless otherwise stated. Marriage and Live-in Partners are optional, unless otherwise stated in the challenge.
6. Every generation is supposed to complete both the career and aspiration of the heir unless explicitly stated otherwise.
7. Would recommend keeping the lifespan on normal, but you may play on whatever lifespan or custom lifespan if you so desire.
8. Feel free to accept any additional self discoveries, just don't switch personalities unless otherwise stated.
9. Please take advantage of the Reward traits and potions to help you through each generation
10. Have fun. I personally like challenges, so I'm adding some additional requirements for each generation for a challenge mode. Feel free to adjust the rules to suit your own playstyle better and complete as much or as little of the generation as you please.

Generation 1: Pluto

You are the Keeper of Time and this legacy. The timeline has shifted, and the Moon Kingdom is in danger. You and your companion have been allowed to leave your post in order to correct it. This world is different that what you are familiar with. It isn't the Moon Kingdom, nor is it Tokyo. But you do learn there is a place that teaches you the things you need to know, and you find yourself enrolled in school. You must compile this knowledge to develop a new Door of Space and Time to guard for all of eternity from this new world. But not everything is doom and gloom. When you're not trying to fix the world, you find yourself relaxing by playing chess and making things to wear.

Optional: Start off or Become a Vampire, the goal is to eventually become immortal (You may also cheat this if you prefer to remain human) Optional: Have a feline companion who also gains immortality (with the power of many, many age down treats) and lives with each generation to provide them with the wisdom and knowledge. Traits: Gloomy, Genius, Vegetarian? Aspirations: Academic, (Optional) Good Vampire Career: Scientist Skills: Logic, Knitting or Gemology, (Optional) Veterinarian

• Complete Academic aspiration and get a degree in Physics
• Max Scientist Career along with Logic and either Gemology or Knitting Skills
• Create and Upgrade the Door of Space and Time (aka the Wormhole Generator) and place on home lot.
• Travel to the Moon Kingdom (Sixam) at least once.
• Must adopt at least one child
• Heir must be human or have human lifespan (can be adopted sim)

Challenge mode:

• (Optional) In order to achieve immortality: Become a Vampire and complete the Good Vampire Aspiration
• (Optional) In order to achieve immortality for your feline companion, master the Veterinarian skill and create the Age Down Treats. (Purchasing them is also okay, especially in later generations)
• (Optional) Have a garden where you grow most of your food source and death flowers
• (Optional) Gift at least 3 knitted items or jewelry to friends or family
• (Optional) Complete both Knitting and Gemology skills
• (Optional) Use the gemology skill to make you immortal

The voices in your head make it hard to be alone, so you spend most of your time reading. When you finally meet someone new, you become close friends. But one day when you have a maniac episode where you completely black out, you ruin the only friendship you had. And to save your friend and anyone else from your unstable personality, you become a shut-in with just you and your books. You dream of traveling, but never trust yourself to leave. So you travel through books and fantasy, writing about the adventures you'll never take.

Traits: Erratic, Loner, Paranoid Aspiration: Best-Selling Author Career: Freelance Writer Skills: Writing, Selvadoran Culture, Vampire Lore, + 1 skill of your choice

• Complete Best-Selling Author aspiration and write Book of Life for Gen one.
• Max Writing, Selvadoran Culture (will likely need to attend classes to sit on to gain the initial skill), Vampire Lore, & 1 skill of your choosing (preferably one that you wouldn't ever use like herbalism, rock climbing, skiing, etc.) that you must master via skill book only.
• Only make your money from Royalties and/or Freelance Work.
• Make a BFF and and eventually loose your BFF status due to the decline of your friendship
• Never leave your lot (unless for a rabbithole event or absolutely necessary)
• Complete the Postcard collection.

Challenge Mode:

• (Optional: As a child) Become best friends with the first child (or younger) sim that you meet. Can be a Non-blood related sibling, if you're having trouble.
• (Optional Mod) Be homeschooled
• (Optional: As a teen) Have a falling out with your friend that goes from BFF into the red.
• (Optional: After falling out) Never leave your lot (unless for a rabbithole event or absolutely necessary)
• (Optional: As a YA) If you decide to move out, you must stay in the same neighborhood as you grew up. Alternative: Stay in your family's home or Turn your family home into a residential rental and stay there.
• (Optional: As an adult) You settle the voices in your head. Should you desire, you may replace the erratic trait with a trait of your choosing (as an adult) or via self-discovery prompt (at any point as a YA or older)

And since there's no cars in this world, you want learn how to ride. Your guardian begrudgingly allows you to have a horse, but only because they thought it was one of those "I wanna a pony" stages. Turns out, you're pretty decent of a rider, so much so that you can build a living off of it. As soon as you're old enough, you move out of your parent's home and set off on your own adventure. With your career, you have the flexibility to work when you want and travel the rest of the time. While you enjoy riding horses, you're not really about the farm/ranch life. You gain a little fame from work and your adventuring, so you find yourself having to disguise yourself when going out, but it doesn't slow your adventures in the slightest.

Despite some accidental or unplanned pregnancies, you are determined to be provide a good life for your children, even if it takes a bit of discipline.

Said map from Collector Edition. As we can see, Northwest from "Cordon" is the region with highlited bridges and U-shaped river with caption "Worse than Military!". While some users do think devs move "Swamp" to the west from Cordon I think they might form 2 different locations.
If we check "Swamp" map from Clear Sky to Collector Edition map there is quite overlap with various pre-1986 bridges and and a U-shaped riverbed surrounding the area from the west, south and East. In addition, the southern part of the map is covered with forest and "wrench" on the Collector Edition correspond where is small village in southwest part of "Swamp" map from Clear Sky and original Swamp is on the west of Cordon with the continous hills separating two regions in "Clear Sky" game (long continous hills/ridge is visible on Collector Edition map).
There is also possibility we're gonna visit Dead City. Dead City didn't show up in any official trillogy map but as we can see on Lukash map adnotations in Shadow of Chernobyl (as additional reference higher-res Army Warehouse map) and general layout in "Clear Sky" and "Shadow of Chernobyl" where "Red Forest" map is hinted to be divided on "eastern" part (genuine Red Forest map) and "western" part (aka "Radar" map) while Army Warehouse is somewhere north of "Garbage" but south of Red Forest more or less correspond with "Triple ?" on Collector Edition map.
There is a question where "Limansk" with its lore-important "Radiowave Institute" should be. I guess it is west of "Three ?" and southwest from "Red Forest" along the river (gray "bulge" on the river on Collector Edition map). Radiowave Institute except Clear Sky also had 2 references in "Call of Pripyat" endings where Lt. Sokolov positive ending mention Mercs shooting down his heli over Limansk and Radiowave Institute antennas is visible on photos in ending slides on description Degtyarev findings alerted Ukraine Security Service and made any labs reference from archives as "Top Secret", which may explain why there is "Triple ?" and "Gray Bulge" on Collector Edition map, nobody wants to talk about this two areas and Army and USS keeps any info as "Top Secret" among their agents in the Zone so this hand drawn map didn't include them outright due to lack of concrete info and airtight secrecy.

If you’ve ever been to Amsterdam, you’ve probably visited, or at least heard about the famous cookie store that sells only one cookie. I mean, not a piece, but a single flavor.
I’m talking about Van Stapele Koekmakerij of course—where you can get one of the world's most delicious chocolate chip cookies. If not arriving at opening hour, it’s likely to find a long queue extending from the store’s doorstep through the street it resides. When I visited the city a few years ago, I watched the sensation myself: a nervous crowd awaited as the rumor of ‘out of stock’ cookies spreaded across the line.
The store, despite becoming a landmark for tourists, stands for an idea that seems to be forgotten in our culture: crafting for a single purpose.
In the tech scene where I’m coming from, and which you might too, this approach is often perceived as singular, and not in its positiveness. We’ve been taught to go big or go home—raise millions in funding, build a big company, hire more and more employees, and hope for the desired exit.
Anything less is considered a mind of a failure.
From a personal perspective I’ve seen this attitude in almost every branding session I ran with startup founders. Again and again, they struggled to distill their primary focus. Moreover, when discussing competitors, it often seemed their startup competed in every possible field.
In a way, that fear of committing reflects the human nature of FOMO—deliberately giving up on something(s) and experiencing the potential loss of other benefits.
This mindset has also seeped into our collective body of work, especially in software. A product, which often starts as a weird small creature, gradually evolves into a multi-arm octopus, which sadly became the norm for VCware.
And so we’ve been left with bloated, bigger, and… worse software.
The idea of maintaining a small scope in product has already appeared in my writing in various forms; in niche product design I explored the effect of growth on design; and in defense of Twitter, I wrote about the bloated era of incumbent culture. But in between there seems to be a different attitude that not many choose to embrace, which like in Van Stapele’s case, seeks a real purpose.

Going back to basics as a way to find purpose

In a tweet posted a few months ago, Jeff Sheldon described his renewed approach to photography after getting a new camera. It enlightened my eyes.
I’m not a professional photographer, and never been. But my beloved Canon 700D still serves me often while traveling. Besides learning about ISO and shutter speed settings, being familiar with the mechanics of a DSLR camera has also introduced me to the practice of shooting photos in RAW format, which means capturing photos at the highest quality level.
But the super heavy file format marks only the start of the process in modern photography. The rest belongs to the post-processing act: the daunting work of polishing, enhancing, and fixing images.
When I returned from vacation, I hoped to edit my captures. Then I noticed something weird. When comparing my photos to some stunning photos I saw online, it seemed like my camera output wasn’t as good as those shared photos. In doubt of my gear I then, again, noticed something I should have probably known: it wasn’t about the camera, but the editing.
I realized professional-made photos were overly edited, often detached from their original conditions. It appeared that what you see isn’t what you get.
I wondered, has photography become an art of photo manipulation?
To respectful photographers, this might appear like a false accusation. The time spent sitting in front of the photo editor is at the heart of many camera enthusiasts. After all, that’s why a camera is set to shoot in raw.
But this potential debate triggers a more profound question: what’s the purpose of all this thing, to find the perfect angle or color filter?
Despite being somewhat contradicting with modern photography philosophy, I find “going back to basics”, as Jeff described, to reflect the same spirit as of Van Stapele—a devotion to a very minded process. No editing. No over-complication. Working only in one mode, and for the sake of it.
At first glance, Van Stapele’s laser-focused outlook might seem detached from tech and other mass-production industries. But there’s a line that can be drawn between the Dutch cookie store to some other products which makes them all distinct:

• You can only read e-books with a Kindle.
• There’s no app store on the Light Phone.
• You’ll mostly find waterproof apparel in a Rains store.
• The Bic pen has remained untouched for almost 70 years.
• The design of Are.na remained the same for more than 12 years.

Whilst not every product mentioned above is hard-core focused like Van Stapele, the pattern is clear: an intentional commitment to a single purpose—either as a life philosophy, by using specific materials, or a deliberate design. And it also feels more appreciable when succeeding that way.
Some might call out a gimmick, while others appreciate the care for deep focus, which both are understandable. Finding the perfect recipe for the perfect cookie, and then committing to selling only that can be novel or a trick in marketing—depends on who you ask. But as I will stretch out from now on, I choose novelty.
We started with very minimal and basic products, aimed to serve only one simple job. A car to get from point A to B, a telephone to communicate with others, and a watch to check the time (perhaps the last analog device to serve human beings). But then many of our mundane artifacts have become more of a Swiss knife rather than just being exceptional in one form. We’re now drowning in oceans of product suites, both in the digital and physical worlds.

The bloated culture

In software, this trajectory is no different. Furthermore, it’s on steroids.
Despite “Do one thing well” being common advice for people building products in tech, it fails to hold water in the long run. Temptations are far too many to build and launch new stuff. Here’s Dropbox, a famous example of software turned bloated, in the words of DHH of 37signals:

Over the years, Dropbox has tried a million different things to juice upsells, seat expansions, and other ways to move the needle. There’s been a plethora of collaboration features (when all the collab I ever need is those magic links to files I can send over any wire!) and more and more pushy prompts to, say, move pictures and videos straight from the camera into the cloud. Along with pleas not to store the files I have in the system on my local computers (presumably so the transfer costs they pay are less). It’s exhausting.
I just want to pay for the original premise: All my files synched between all my computers, with a backup in the sky. That’s a beautifully, simply solution to a surprisingly difficult problem. And Dropbox absolutely nailed it.
Finished software

Back in its heyday, Dropbox was simple. A classic piece of software. Its purpose was to allow people to store and share files on the cloud effortlessly—either from a computer or mobile device. It was straightforward. Even its homepage was simple. There were no bells and whistles. It was designed to serve… a single purpose.
But as with VCware, things have started to shift gears. Amid Google Drive's popularity, the “drop-to-the-box” identity started to blur as the product offering expanded.. and expanded. It seemed like Dropbox’s purpose became more generic and less focused.
Another resentment that ignited a storm in the design community occurred when the company announced a brand redesign a few years ago. In a way that act marked the shift in the company’s direction, bringing unclarity to its customers. The cynicism of Brand New's audience also made its review post one of the most popular that year.
The novel idea that was executed so well has followed the same growth patterns of the tech bubble—as I wrote in Niche product design:

As companies grow, they gradually move from a state of fan-only to a state of a product for everyone. During this transition, dramatic changes occur, as the drive to satisfy more audiences and increase revenue. But eventually, this shift harms the core of the product. It becomes scattered, and the brand turns into a gigantic octopus, leaving people questioning its purpose and values.

An email client, a note-taking tool, and a Photos-like app are only part of what Dropbox has been involved with over the years.
Today Dropbox is seemingly much more than a storage cloud service. It’s also a video reviewer (if there’s such a term at all), a Loom competitor, and a document e-sign tool. However, at its core, Dropbox is still a company selling terabytes on the cloud.
Yet Dropbox might be just a drop in the ocean. A symptom of a bloated culture in modern software. To better understand this bloat-mania, let’s look at one of its kingpins, and a company of which Dropbox is valued at 0.003% of its worth: Apple. And what’s a better example than one of its greatest products of all time, the iPhone?
Launched in 2007, the innovative touch-screen device had only essential features like phone calls, and text messaging among other luxuries like a camera, an internet browser, a weather, and a stock app. The peak of technology at the time.
In 2008, a year after the first iPhone release, Apple introduced the App Store, which was the catalyst for entering the smartphone era while unleashing a tidal wave of apps.
Fast forward to 2014, and the iPhone got an upgrade in the form of a multi-model release, with the launch of the iPhone 6 Plus. The trend expanded and Apple gradually added different shapes and names to the iPhone line: Plus, Pro, Pro Max, alongside other discontinued model names. This doctrine has been applied to many of Apple’s products—the iPad, Macbook, and Watch. Some got bigger, smaller, or faster. In a materialized world, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone got bigger only to store more functions.
But perhaps the greatest archetype of Apple’s transition to bloated products was the iPod. The next-level MP3 (or 4?) essence was simple—to carry music on the road. Nothing more. But then Apple gave the iPod a life of its own, as it eventually became an iPhone replication, just without a SIM card.
The iPod (especially the non-touch model) is still dear to many Apple (non-)fansbois. The beloved product was designed entirely around the music experience. Before music streaming services took over the industry, people manually entered song metadata: the title, artist name, and of course—the holy album artwork. The hurdles of iTunes made this a daunting task, but iPod users found joy in this craft.
As a standalone product, disconnected from other functions, the iPod was a true single-purpose product.

In more recent times

What would happen if Van Stapele decided to add more flavors or open other branches? Probably nothing. Maybe its profits even increase. But the Valrhona chocolate-made cookie store icon will be losing its artisanal identity. Specialty and quality aren't determined by size.
In a more familiar case, we can look no further than the platform that hosts these very own words—Substack. Since the announcement of Notes, Substackers have shared concerns about the direction the platform is heading.
Substack’s original purpose, to some, was to highlight great writing while making writers a living. Now with the seeming transition for eyeballs and short-form content attention, Substack is being questioned whether modern social network dynamics are taking over it.
To close this social network loop—Twitter has been a good executer at designing for a single purpose until it wasn’t, largely by the decision of going for a longform direction alongside launching questionable features. For years Twitter sanctified the quirky 140-then-280-characters limit while establishing a new internet medium. Those recent announcements made by its new execs are ripping off its identity, slowly but surely. By adding more purposes to this platform design, Substack risks going down a similar path, jeopardizing its writer's soul.

Drinking beers and building businesses in Japan

If I were raised in Japan I may not understand what this turmoil is all about. The renowned business heritage in Japan is an oasis in the never-ending capitalistic desert:

Japan’s startup climate has often been criticized for being sluggish, perhaps because a culture that promotes business longevity also cultivates a fear of failure. Now, however, ‘startup’ and ‘atotsugi’ are words spoken in the same sentence, as today’s leaders finally feel permitted to apply entrepreneurial lessons to traditional companies to ensure their legacy continues. Why Japan is home to the world’s oldest businesses

Japan is located on the other side of the earth, and its business culture values seem too. In a Western society of hyper-everything, which characterizes the move-fast-and-break-things startup ethos, the far island culture is way more cautious. Instead of financial logic, which might seem irrational, the ‘shinise’ tradition cultivates sacred values such as continuous improvement, longevity, and care for quality. It’s an extremely long-term game.

Japan is probably the largest home for centuries-old businesses, in varied fields from sake producers, to hotels and construction companies. This fact is much attributed to how generations of Japanese aspire to keep businesses running in the family. But as in the words of Yusuke Tsuen, the current owner of Tsuen Tea, the key to sustaining a shinise is to focus only on one thing:

“We’ve focused on tea and haven’t expanded the business too much,” he says. “That’s why we’re surviving.” Why so many of the world’s oldest companies are in Japan, Bryan Lufkin

In The Price of Immortality, Rohit Krishnan concluded the same:

The conclusion of this little digression has been to find common grounds amongst the most long lived organisations, and turns out you need to be a particular type of company: Extreme dedication to doing one thing well

But the Japanese business heritage isn’t the last and only resort from bloat-ism. The next time you drink beer, think about this:
Weihenstephan is considered to be the oldest brewery in the world, founded in 1040, more than a thousand years ago. And we don’t need to travel this far back. Other European breweries like Tuborg (1873) and Heineken (1864) are over 150 years old.

Breweries have developed more tastes and flavors over the years, but they’ve been all operating for a single purpose for decades and hundreds of years: to craft beers.

What might come next?

A real shinise is rare in tech. Focusing on a single purpose often seems boring, a narrowed view, or a lack of ambition to some. But I find it invigorating. A long-lasting design can be timeless and unique.
Do we really want to carry our stress, depression, and fears everywhere we go? Don’t we want to feel disconnected from time to time? Then why the heck do we carry our mobile phones everywhere we go, even to entertain ourselves in the toilet? And not to mention the germs.
Would this all happen if we were using a cell phone that’s just designed to make phone calls? This is actually what the Light Phone founders realized a decade ago:

What does it do? Nothing. You put in a SIM card, press a few buttons, and make a call. There’s no browser. No games. No NFC. It has quick dial, which is nice, and it doubles as a flashlight. The Light Phone Is The Anti-Smartphone, John Biggs

I may get carried away from the main idea of this essay, but that’s in part why I think designing for a single purpose is so important. The purpose of many products and artifacts has gone lost. Beyond the seeming gimmick, building for a single purpose reflects an understanding of what a thing is meant to be, and serve.
We’ve reached a point where focusing seems like spinning one's wheels, instead of appreciating the deep care of it.
And perhaps going back to basics is inevitable. When I’m reading on my Kindle I don’t get bothered by WhatsApp messages, or get interrupted by an incoming call. I’m not being tempted to do something else. I’m just focused on the act of reading.
As Devon tweeted a few years back: “When using my cellphone, I tend to become a passive consumer of the internet.” This also resonates well with the idea of this whole long text but from a slightly different angle. Using a multi-purpose product increases my distraction level, as I consume more things in the background.
Using a product that was designed for a single purpose brings back joy. It removes all the unnecessities and emphasizes an experience essence in a calmer environment, and with a real purpose.

He possesses noble character and is willing to take care of her with utmost kindness, even if he doesn't love her (when she was suffering from diarrhea, it was he who carried her into the woods to find a solution).
He is the shining knight on a white horse who can save her in times of danger, glittering and omnipotent.
But, does she truly love Geralt as a real person?
Does the fangirl who admires him love him for who he is, or is it the abstract, romanticized image of love she has in her mind?
Is she truly interested in him as an individual? Would she be willing to understand and accept his ordinary, mundane, and overly realistic, not-so-legendary side?
After helping Triss eliminate the rats in Novigrad, Geralt and Triss sat down for a heart-to-heart talk.

(So the online speculation that she might have something going on with Lambert, or the author's implication of a developing relationship between her and Eskel, both seem plausible.)
She's also still the wounded soldier traumatized by the battle of Sodden, eager to prove herself and constantly worried about her image in others' eyes.

Exfriend rekindles relationship w sexual harasser, then takes to social media to call me a predator a few weeks later

So. I(19) don’t even know where to start.
Basically back in November, my ex best friend (19) had a close friend over while we were on FaceTime. Long story short, around 15 minutes into the call this girl (19) grabs the phone and starts talking about my genitalia and sexual stuff. As she does this my exfriend says “(name) why are you sexually harassing (name)”. At this point I felt extremely uncomfortable but was really scared to say anything. I act like it didn’t happen and the conversation keeps going, but ultimately I end the call early and go to bed.
The next day I get a text from exfriend basically asking if I’d like an apology from the girl who did the sexual harassment. I reluctantly say yes because…well…why not? Maybe it will ease some of the discomfort. Plus from the way ex-friend speaks about sexual harasser, they are “done” with her and never letting her back into their life. Atp I am happy to hear that.
Fast forward a few months later in late March, and the two of them are back to being close friends. I feel uncomfortable and uneasy about this, but I don’t voice it bc I don’t want jealousy accusations or to ruin the friendship.
Soon enough though, exfriend brings up a separate friend I had—lets call this person Ocean—who exfriend hates because Ocean asked if they were American when exfriend said they didn’t know about a certain card game. Exfriend said this was xenophobic after the fact and I agreed, but did not end the friendship. Exfriend is angry/irritated that I mentioned Ocean at all in conversation “knowing what they said to them”. I make a mental note to not bring Ocean up in the future, and swallowed the fact that that was my exact feeling upon hearing them rekindle their relationship with someone who sexually harassed me…esp when I had been molested around a month before (the harassment) and told exfriend.
Now let’s fast forward a bit more . Me and exfriend fell out over an insensitive and harmful comment I made, (i don’t really know how to explain the depth of the convo that made us fall out here) and I tried to own up to it immediately and apologize. They block me, and I email a google doc w an apology and ask them to read it.
No response. A few days after the fact I deleted it, I honestly can’t remember when and I write a separate apology in a shared google doc we had. I read (on here actually) that apologies are for yourself and not the other person, so I post it on my twitter account (again, where I changed my @ to my OG one and removed all ten of my followers) for a sense of release/accountability. I pin it so that I have a reminder of my actions.
While the apology is pinned, yes I am tweeting about being/feeling suicidal. Keep in mind though that I have always used my twitter as a diary (cringe ik lmao) and I assumed by changing my username and removing my followers he wouldn’t see my SI. Especially bc I was (as i thought) blocked, permanently. I took to tweeting my suicidal thoughts AFTER also chatting with a hotline, and at the time I didn’t have anyone who knew me to text with. I just needed to release those thoughts somewhere without anyone having to deal w the emotional distress of them.
Today, I log on to see this person calling for all of their twitter followers to block me for being “predatory” (genuinely so confused) and telling people what I emailed them was a suicide note, which to be clear, it was NOT. I never wrote a suicide note at all. Im guessing they assumed it was a suicide note bc on my twitter (where they blocked me btw, and i changed my username and removed all my followers) I tweeted my SI thoughts…which tbh I did before meeting this person. Tweeting them feels like a release for me. They went on to tweet that I should rest in piss and that they’re happy an “opp is dead”
I saw these tweets bc I checked what they were saying about me publicly on my burner.
Im just in awe tbh. Not even sure how I should begin processing this. I honestly want to make a callout post of my own now but I know I dont have mental fortitude and strength to battle his mutuals who will no doubt come to his defense, even with me having proof of the sexual harassment. But it would also provide me a release to defend myself. Help.
My question is: Do I defend myself publicly? Seeing as this person is making fun of my SI and telling their mutuals that I’m literally a predatory meanwhile they are friends with a person who verbally sexually harasses people. Like do you actually care about victims?
I know I shouldn’t have tweeted abt my SI on public but again I removed my followers and changed my @ to the one i had before meeting him, exfriend had to go actively looking for that shit.
Then to claim my genuine apology was a suicide note…ew. Im just upset and angry tbh.
For context: i met them on twitter at age 18, they were the same age. we really hit it off and they came to see me, traveled literally 24 hrs by train. I always emphasized they didn’t have to. . . Just confused and scared. Also we never did anything remotely sexual, at most we cuddled (initiated by them) and held hands. It was wholesome.
