2024.05.29 05:16 Environmental_Bee255 Questions From an Incoming Freshman

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman (F17). I applied undecided into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I have a few questions about Villanova. If anyone can answer even one of them it would be a huge help. Reddit seems to be the best forum regarding Nova I can find.
  1. CLAS: I know CLAS is gets a bit of a bad rep compared to the business school, engineering school, and nursing school. How significantly does a student feel that on campus?
  2. ASL: I want to take American Sign Language for my language requirement. I’ve taken Spanish from elementary school to junior year, and it’s always been my worst subject. I can’t take another year of it. Has anyone here taken the ASL course? How was the professor? How difficult is it? If I end up hating it- what is a language you recommend?
  3. Professors: Please give me any / all teacher recommendations - who to stay away from , who will give me an easy grade , who makes their class borderline impossible with workload and grading , etc.
  4. Mathematics requirement: I didn’t take any AP/IB classes (my high school doesn’t offer them) but I did take Calculus in my senior year and got a 98.78 in the class (I dropped from AB Calculus and am pretty good at Math). If you are in CLAS - what math did you take? I don’t really understand what some of the options are (discrete math for the social sciences, Mathematics of Fairness, Calculus 1 for Liberal Arts, Calculus 2 for Liberal Arts, Regular Calculus 1, Regular Calculus 2, Logic something or another). First of all if anyone could give me any insights on any of these that would be amazing. Secondly, what is the difference between Calculus for Liberal Arts versus just the normal Calculus? Also, is it worth it to try Calculus 2 even though I didn’t take the AP? Does it matter at all? If I decide to transfer out of Villanova will other colleges care if I take what sounds like bs math courses? What teachers should I try to get for any of these courses?
  5. Housing: I didn’t apply for Communitas, but I was reading a lot of posts and comments here that said you want to be in the South Campus as a freshmen. I’m also not in the honors program. Which are the best buildings for a freshman. I had to rank my choices in the Housing application and said Good Counsel, St. Katharine, St. Monica’s (I think). But I really didn’t have any information and am kind of scared. Any insights?
  6. Social Scene: I’m definitely not going to join a sorority. I’ve seen posts here from like the 2000s that say if you are a girl you won’t have trouble getting into parties. Is that still applicable? Also where do people get alc? I have a fake (or should in abt 2 weeks). Are there any go-to bars or convenience stores to bring drinks back to dorms.
  7. Advice: Any specific tips/recs for succeeding at Nova besides the generic make relationships with your teachers, go to office hours, study, read the syllabus, etc.?

2024.05.29 05:01 throwaway63820174 I asked my 60-something year old coworker to trade me shifts at our convenience store

And when she asked my boss if that'd be ok, he said no because she shouldn't be able to work by herself because it's too dangerous. I asked him how it isn't dangerous for me to work alone, and he said "you're a young guy" as if I'm not 26 and weigh 140lbs
At this job, we aren't allowed to carry weapons, and we're located right between two halfway houses and a trailer park, so obviously we get a lot of sketchy people. So I understand not wanting an old woman to be working by herself, but the thing is, the other 60+ year old woman who's right underneath the store manager does work the same shift which involves the person working it being alone at night for 3-4 hours
Is this not discrimination, and possibly endangerment? I've been trying to get off of this shift for about a year now, when they stopped scheduling 2 people for most of the night because "they don't have the budget for it" anymore. My boss knows I'm uncomfortable working it, as is everybody who has to, and nothing has been done about it. I don't think anyone should have to work alone, but the fact that I'm expected to be fine if shit goes down just because I'm a "young guy" is insane and offensive to me
This is in Idaho btw, and I wanted to try and get opinions on it. If this gives me ground to contact some third party, or maybe just HR, I think I want to do that

2024.05.29 03:53 wormiyup DAE feel bad when you cut an employee's smoke break short?

Like for example there's only one person working the convenience store and they've stepped out for a cig. Then you show up and they have to put it out to help you check out with something inside. I always feel so bad for interrupting their moment.

2024.05.29 03:08 cabinetshq Why Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) Cabinets are Better Than Assembled Cabinets

In the world of cabinet making, one debate that has gone on for quite some time is whether Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) cabinets are better than pre-assembled cabinets. While both options have their own advantages, it is becoming increasingly recognized that RTA cabinets do indeed hold certain benefits over its assembled counterpart. This article will explore why often times RTA is a better choice than assembled cabinets, specifically looking at cost-effectiveness; shipping convenience and options; inventory management; quality; as well as durability.

Cost-Effectiveness

One of the most compelling reasons to choose RTA cabinets over assembled ones is due to significant savings in cost. Typically, ready-made or already put-together cupboards can be priced up to 30% higher than RTA equivalents. This price difference comes from reduced labor costs during assembly process – when you buy them all what pays for are materials used plus design itself but not any work done on it thus this option becomes very attractive especially for people with tight budgets like homeowners planning their houses or developers working multiple projects simultaneously.

Shipping Convenience and Options

Another huge advantage of using ready made rather than assembling yourself has got everything related with shipping them through different places around the world more easily accessible at cheaper rates too! As compared to assembled versions, these packs take less space since they are shipped in flat boxes hence reducing weight which results into lower charges when transporting either within one country or internationally besides being able send wider range brands styles throughout America due compact packaging thereby giving customers wider selection than would be possible if only restricted by local outlets.

Inventory Management

Additionally Warehouses can store much larger quantities of unassembled items compared with pre-assembled ones therefore always having enough stock plus reducing chances going out completely. For example large scale multi-family project where lots units need many pieces installed over long period time; buying such things bulk becomes inevitable because there’s no other way but still it needs enough space to keep them until required for use thus being able assemble when necessary is great advantage especially during installation stages which usually take place at different times.

Easy Replacement of Damaged Parts

With RTA cabinets, it is very easy to replace parts that have been damaged unlike the pre-assembled ones where in case anything goes wrong everything would require changing. This saves money as only affected area needs replacement not whole thing; also saves time taken for replacement because only faulty part should be brought instead of entire cabinet which can be quite cumbersome especially if already fixed on wall or being used somewhere else within building complex.

Quality and Durability

Another misconception people may have regarding RTA versus assembled cupboards centers on quality issue but this couldn’t be further from reality since most ready made units are made using strong materials designed last long. Actually many offer better qualities compared to their already put together counterparts due fact that often employ robust cam-lock or dovetail joints during assembling process thereby creating stronger connections than those achieved by glueing together pieces factory cabinets thus making them more reliable as well. The idea that RTA cabinets have low quality is mostly false. It should be recognized that all cabinet construction is the same whether it is assembled or not. The only difference being that one type needs to be put together by the buyer or a professional they hire, while the other comes pre-assembled at the factory. What makes RTA cabinets great is you can control this process yourself which ensures it meets your standards and specifications; also utilizing stronger finishing touches such as dovetail joints frequently produce sturdier final products.

Savings on Shipping Costs

Another major benefit of using RTA cabinets is saving money on shipping costs. Since they are shipped flat packed many more units can be transported at once which lowers overall cost per shipment both domestically and internationally. For worldwide projects this could mean substantial savings making them an equally cheap option in terms of price whilst still maintaining quality and design.
CabinetsHQ.com offer free shipping on all RTA cabinets since they can fit one full kitchen on few pallets and ship it freight to anywhere in the country for under $500. (https://cabinetshq.com/)
RTA cabinets have several advantages over traditional built-in ones: they are cheaper, easier to ship, offer better inventory management and allow for easy replacement of damaged parts. In addition, ready-to-assemble cupboards often exceed their assembled counterparts in terms of quality and durability thus debunking any beliefs that may exist about lower standards associated with them Conversely if you’re a developer doing large scale construction work or simply someone who wants some changes around your house then these types would be perfect for use since not only do they come at affordable prices but also prove convenient during transportation because they don’t take up much space when packed hence allowing more units to fit into a single delivery truck.

2024.05.29 03:07 philipito Boomer Regrets Ceding Power

Story time. I am the president of a road association for our tiny rural community of around 70 houses. We maintain about 3 miles of unpaved roads.
Backstory: The old president (still a member of the board), stepped down a few years ago due to her husband getting cancer and later passed away. The then vice president took over as acting president, and when he moved away, nominated me as the new president. The old president said she didn't want to be president any longer and voted in favor of me being the new president. I am a zennial. She is a boomer.
Fast forward a couple of years: Myself and a guy close to my age took over as president and vice president respectively. We have been very proactive on getting shit done, and this is a volunteer job. We don't get paid shit to do this work. But we want a nice road to drive on, which again is an unpaved road in a very wooded area, and it is a lot of work. When I first moved out to this community, the road to my house was shit. The road to the then-president's house was great. As soon as I stepped into the role of president, I started getting all sorts of complaints about how their part of the road hadn't been properly maintained in years. Given the state of the road to my house, the complaints were totally valid. We don't have a lot of money for the association, so I've done my best to take a holistic approach to road maintenance. For some reason, this totally pissed off the old, boomer president. Probably because she started seeing potholes from her house to the paved road, however, the rest of the road was in much better condition than it had been in years. Again, she never gave a shit about the rest of the road, just her part. I also started conducting board meetings professionally folling Robert's Rules of Order. This also seemed to piss her off. She had always cowboy-ed shit. During our last annual member’s meeting, we even had an association member that hadn’t been to one in years comment on how impressed he was at how professional I was conducting the meeting. And that pissed her off too, haha. (That member hates the old president with a passion)
This lady had sown a LOT of bad blood over the years. Sueing neighbors over petty shit and just generally acting like a fucking boomer Karen. Not just stories. I actually read through the documents that she dumped on us when I became president because she never threw away anything. This lady would swing her dick, and when someone would try and stand up to her, her husband would have her back and people would back down. Well hubby ain’t around no more…
Last November we were extremely fortunate to get a government grant to have fiber installed to our community. This was a very expensive project and couldn't have happened without this grant. We were deemed as "underserved" because a part of our community didn't have anything except DSL which only gave us 2Mbps down (myself included). About a third of the residents signed on, and construction began.
The old president has a very, very tenuous grasp on easements, and to this day thinks that the road association "owns" the road. In the past, she straight up acted like the queen of the road, even though the association just maintained the road. We don't "own" anything. We just have a right to maintain since it's an easement. Once construction started, she flipped out. She started blasting our community Facebook group saying that the construction workers had no right to be trenching along our roads. I tried to tell her that just as we had an easement to maintain the roads, the utility companies had a utility easement below our roads to run utilities. Again, she doesn't even understand easements to begin with, so she was livid that they were trenching new utilities on our road. We just got connected a few days ago, and having gigabit internet in a rural community is amazing. She said that all of us who signed onto the fiber project were “greedy” for wanting decent internet. She’s had high speed cable internet for years…
She has been trying everything she can to paint me in the worst light. She’s tried to whip up the other board members (the other boomers on the board), to fight me on this construction project. She bitched about how the road was getting fucked up, even though the construction workers were dumping tons and tons of road material on the road after they trenched. Road material that we couldn’t pay for ourselves because we don’t have that much money. They also trimmed back vegetation and widened the road in spots that we desperately needed widened.
The other boomer board members finally saw through her shit and got onboard with me and what I was doing to improve the roads. She didn’t attend the last board meeting. She hasn’t checked in on the group chat for the board in over a month. She’s tried posting “anonymous” messages to the community Facebook group bitching about the construction project. She didn’t realize that the admins of the group (myself included) could see who posted the “anonymous” message, in typical boomer fashion. She’s gone radio silent.
A few days ago I was at Costco, and I was reaching for a shopping cart, guess who was there. The boomer Karen. She looked like a kid who got caught stealing candy from a convenient store. I smiled and said hello. She was visibly trembling. I commented on how busy it was at Costco, grabbed my cart, gave her a big smile, and headed in. She still hasn’t checked in on the group chat.

2024.05.29 03:06 kzzmarcel Brand new PS4: Update to 9.00 or 11.00?

I've been jailbreaking Nintendo consoles since the Wii, and now I've decided to buy a brand new PS4 to enjoy some of the exclusives I've been missing. (I'm also about to get my hands on a backward-compatible PS3, but that's a story for another sub.)
The hacking scene is quite different, and I have a few questions. (Sorry if this kind of noob post isn't allowed; feel free to downvote me if necessary.)

2024.05.29 02:11 TKWander Ghoulish Goods first Sampler review! *9 scent reviews*

OOOH. I was SO excited for these! I got an 8 pack sampler set (which they have a REALLY cool system where you can pretty much get as many samples as you like, and aren't limited to a 5 pack). They came in while I was away on a trip, so thankfully I got to skip a week waiting period and get to them after they had settled a bit, to try them out. Great TAT from this house (got them in within a week or two) AND you got to pick which Freebie you wanted, which was so awesome!
My review of this scent house so far: 4/5. It would honestly be a 5/5, but for that they have such a short wear period on my skin. Pretty much every 2 hours, I'd have to reapply :/ But, pretty much every single scent was really great and accurate to their scent descriptions, and I'll probably still FS buy a few!
Just make sure to slightly mix these guys up by turning them up and down a couple times (not so fast that you create air bubbles), to make sure the scent is fully mixed. You'll read in my notes, some of my first impressions when I Didn't do that. Don't make my mistake lol
My Rating System:
1/5: In my opinion this scent just smells really bad. I am not interested in the least. It is NOT my cup of tea and I would actively run away if I smelled it on someone else
2/5: Eh, it smells more like a scent for a cleaner or laundry detergent or maybe just a room scent. Not a perfume/cologne for me
3/5: Not my cup of tea, but It's well balanced and I could see someone else wearing it! Just not me lol
4/5: Almost perfect, just missing a scent note or two, or doesn't last very long, or dries down powdery/weirdly
5/5: I love this scent and will definitely be wearing it, if not FS-ing it!

Cottagecore No. 1:
Official scent description: It is a warm and inviting blend of blueberry cobbler, wood burning stove, and spice cabinet. It starts off sweet with a buttery rich crust and fresh picked blueberry cobbler. A whisp of spices cut through to break up the sugars. There's a background of smoke, musk and burning wood that lingers in the background but really comes to life on the dry down. The sweetness fades to meet merrily in a dance of oud wood, smoke, spice and cobbler. Feels like a cottage in the woods on a warm summer day after picking berries all morning. A fresh cobbler in the wood burning and comfort in your soul. A gender neutral scent that anyone can enjoy.
Top- buttery crust, cinnamon, incense
Middle- blueberry, brown sugar, wood smoke
Bottom- vanilla bean, oud, musk, amber
My review: Straight out the bottle, it is pure blueberry cobbler, but as it dries, it gets weirdly perfume-y? Very quickly, too. You still get the hints of blueberry, but this powdery note kinda overtakes it all.
After a little bit the powder dies down and do you get more of the buttery crust blueberry cobbler, but this one may not be my cup of tea, sadly :/
2/5
**after about 10 minutes the blueberry pops back up to a mix of spices and blueberries that I actually like! 3 or 4/5. I do wish it had a bit more blueberry throw AND didn't have that weird powdery burst at the first dry down. A very fruity comforting fall scent, I think. Yeah, I really like it for a fruity fall scent**
**UPDATE*\*
I had to try this one a second time after that initial review. Just to try it after shaking it lightly, just a bit, to mix.
Wet I absolutely love this scent. It's giving start of fall and you're making blueberry pie or cobbler and it's spiced with fall spices and you even scraped out some authentic vanilla beans for the recipe and I actually don't get that weird strong powdery note at all! So, definitely make sure to turn samples from this house a time or two, to make sure everything is mixed, but not so much that there are air bubbles. After about 30 or so minutes it dries down to autumn cooking spices, mainly, with mainly a hint of a fruity scent. Still lovely though!
4.5 /5 it would be 5, but pretty much all the scents from this house go poof very quickly on me. All trace of it leaves my skin by 2.5/3 hours

MIDNIGHT CIRCUS
This one was my freebie. My brother and I are putting on a type of Dark Karnival -esque camping event this fall and I really wanted to get a scent to wear there lol
Official scent description: a dark yet lively experience of caramel popcorn, fire, lacquer floorboards and whimsy
Top- hickory, honey, incense, cinnamon
Middle- smoke, amyris, caramel, salt, praline, spice
Bottom- cedarwood, moss, oud, olibanum, amber, musk, leather, popcorn, butter, vanilla
My review: This smells exactly like you're walking around a fall carnival with a big bonfire going on in the middle. Essentially it smells like your favorite fall candle scent, but just a bit more complex with the wiffs of campfire smoke and cedarwood in there. Even though it's the end of May, I sniff it on my wrist and think it's gonna be chilly outside. That feeling you get when the seasons are changing.
Strongest notes on me: wood smoke (though I wish I got more hickory to it), spices (cinnamon mainly), carameled buttery popcorn, vanilla and maybe the honey, maybe praline? It all blends very nicely into a great, if slightly generic, fall scent
Notes I don't get at all: leather, moss, oud. Those are the notes that would probably make this perfectly complex, but I just don't get them out of it. It's pure fall gourmand. I'll probably layer this over a scent that has those notes and need sweetening
Enough of a throw that I get a wiff going about my day
last drydown: dries down to autumn spices, essentially. Reminds me of walking in Gatlinburg in the fall, through all the little shops nestled in the mountain amongst the autumn trees. Completely gone within 3 hours though
4/5

BLACK HONEY
Official Description: Black Honey is a sultry blend of Spiced Honey, black amber, cedarwood, tonka, and tobacco leaf.
My Review:
I like it! I just don't LOVE it :/
The spiced honey notes in this, wet straight on my skin, are my favorite parts, though there is a weird 'Clean' note behind it as an undertone. Maybe it's the black Amber or the tonka. I've been running down a dead note for myself and one of those might be the one. The strong Clean note blends back down into the other notes, after a bit, though. But, going back to it after about 30 minutes, it does still smell very 'clean' smelling. Like, I showered with a dark spiced honey shower soap.
Sadly, I think honey may just be a note so good note for me. So far, it always goes soapy/clean on me :/ I'm hoping it's not just the Honey note in particular, and more just an underlying note or two that generally gets paired with Honey. Otherwise, honey may be a dead note for me :/
Long drydown: it smells like I just stepped into a specialty soap shop. The ones where they sell soaps, beeswax, and honey. And by afternoon my skin just smelled lightly sweet from it. Not my favorite for most days, but maybe on occasion, or to layer in a honey note to my darker more witchy scents
3.5/5 *sigh* I really just want a dark spicy Gourmand honey. Can anyone give me any suggestions for that?? a Honey scent that DOESN'T dry down clean and powdery??

Haunted Library
Official description: This scent will transport you to an old Victorian library. With ceiling high wooden book shelves, Creaky floorboards, leather bound books covered in a blanket of dust, fragile yellowing pages, and musty tufted chairs. Wafting through it all is the scent of sweet tobacco- the scent of the spirit that haunts these walls.
Top- Teakwood, tonka
Middle- cedar, leather, sweet tobacco, molasses
Bottom- sandalwood, Patchouli, mahogany, dark musk
My Review: a VERY light scent. Wow. Make sure you turn up and down a bit to really make sure the scent is fully blended, cause I could Barely smell it out of the bottle. It's a bit Cleaner than what I think a haunted library would really smell like. But, maybe like a lady ghosts' personal library? Overlooking the sea maybe? It weirdly gives off Cape Cod/Northeast coast/maine vibes to me. Like a Ladies Library in a Newport mansion.
I'm generally more of a sweet fruity over complex herbally scent person, or really cool gourmand scents, but I actually really like this scent! I have no clue in what instance I'd wear it, but I really do like it. I'll probably use it to give a tea or vanilla scent more complexity, or after wearing them, maybe even layering it with Stains of scarlet (down below). I don't get too much of the individual notes, but they all blend Very nicely for a femme leaning unisex scent!
As it dried the dust notes got sharper and the molasses got brought out more. First out the bottle, the wood and pachouli notes are a bit stronger. I still don't really get any leather though. My kingdom for a good strong leather scent! Lol. This is like a dainty haunted library, haunted by one of the Bridgerton ladies lol. Sweet, slightly dusty and papery, with a light hint of nostalgia and faded sweet perfume….Oh my goodness, this is Eloise's scent lol, to a T
4/5 only really because it's not really my vibe and this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours
______________________________________________
White Magic
Official description: White magic is an herbaceous blend of sage, lavender, incense and eucalyptus. The sage, lavender and eucalyptus are balanced equally where the incense is more of a background player here. This blend feels clean and comfortable and wears beautifully. Sage can be an off-putting smell to some put it is added subtly to not shine over the lavender. It rings to me, as a comforting freshness that I can't get enough of. This is a gender neutral scent.
Top- lavender, bergamot, pine needles, eucalyptus
Middle- chamomile, sage, camphor, rosemary, pepper
Bottom- Cedar, Sandalwood, incense, Orris root, amber
My thoughts: First out the bottle my first thought was YES!!!!!! Finally a lavender scent that doesn't smell powdery or like laundry soap! It does smell a wee bit Clean, but I think that's more the nature of any scent with these scent notes, since they're used in cleaning supplies and soaps so often. But, this scent is a Super green floral. No powdery note to my nose at all! (and I pull powder like CRAZY lol, it's been a problem for me since I hate powdery scents). This scent transports me to a spa shop full of fresh drying Eucalyptus, sage, and lavender. By the last drydown, the Eucalyptus is the strongest note
4.5 out of 5, only because this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours ______________________________________________
Memento Mori
Official Description: an intriguing blend of smoked vanilla, dark spice, patchouli and black amber.
Top- smoke, clove, white pepper, blood orange Middle- sandalwood, jasmine, amber, nutmeg, black pepper, cardamom seed Bottom- black amber, vanilla, dark musk, benzoin, amyris, patchouli, cassia bark, ebonywood, dark musk
My review: Not gonna lie, this is almost chrismasy. Like a Dark Yule vibe. The dark spice in there completely reminds me of late fall/early winter spices. It's definitely going to be a fall/winter scent for me. Smokey spiced vanilla and clove. It'll be perfect to mix with an Apple scent to add more Autumn/early winter complexity! It gives walking in late fall/crisp winter when the leaves are almost all gone and you have a cinnamon chai warm in your hands walking out in the cold, vs Midnight Circus which gives off Fall carnival with smoky campfire vibes
By the end of the drydown (1.5 hours, maybe 2), all I get is cinnamon and maybe some other spices, Very light sweetness coming from the vanilla. This'll be a good mixer with some of my more sharp winter woodsy scents from Pineward, for a great late fall/winteyule scent!
4.5 out of 5, only because this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours

Nightshade Elixir
Official Description: Nightshade Elixir is an intoxicating blend of deadly nightshade, Moonflower Nectar, Elderberry and absinthe. There is a mysterious quality to this blend that keeps it from being too sweet from the berries or too floral from the Moonflower. There is a perfect blend of fruity, floral, spice and mystery. It starts out on the sweeter side to draw you in (from the black currant and agave), before the deadly dark side starts to shine through on the dry down with black tea, saffron, absinthe and Anise. An all together delectable and mysterious blend that will keep you coming back for more
Top- saffron, anise, agave
Middle- Black current, black berry, jasmine
Bottom- amber, tonka, dark musk, black tea, absinthe, dark musk
My review: Okay, this one does go a bit on the powdery/clean perfume vibes. But, I do still like it?? Very strange, considering I hate clean/powdery scents, but this one balances the Clean notes with a juicy fruity flowery vibe that it balances things quite nicely and I can't stop smelling myself. There's a sharp powdery note in there, though, that keeps me from giving it a 4/5. I've narrowed it down to either the Amber or dark musk or tonka. Whatever it is, it's totally a dead note for me. It's popped up in a few other scents over the samples I've gotten, and it's been quite annoying. I May add something a bit juicier to this. But, it almost gives Spring Fairy Queen vibes. fruity and florally, but also a bit perfumey and stringent
3.5/5 I do like it, it's just a bit too powdery perfume-y for me. Under a pear or other fruit scent, I think it would be quite nice!
______________________________________________
Black no 1
Original description: This scent was inspired by Type O Negative's song, "Black No.1", with notes of crisp fall leaves, burning cedar, smoke and incense.
I wanted to capture the essence of burning leaves as well as autumn air, a faint whisp of clove cigarettes, freshly dyed hair and wolf skin boots. The scent opens up with deep Notes of leather, incense and smoke. Then, brightens slightly with spiced fruit in autumn air, intermingled with warm amber. Wrapped up on a base of burning cedar and musk. This is a deep, gender neutral scent, not for the faint of heart
Top- incense, cedar leaf
Middle- green leaves, smoke, pine, spiced fruit
Bottom- cedar, amber, musk, leather
My review: Ooh, you DEFINITELY get the spiced fruit. Where Memento Mori you get a late fall Slightly into Winter vibe, this scent is ALL winter vibes. Like you're drinking mulled berry wine and christmas shopping downtown, so there's a tinge of cold in the air and incense/fall scented candles are lit in the stores. This scent house REALLY likes its cinnamon note. Those spices are the strongest hit in this, first on my skin. Straight spiced mulled fruits
4/5 but only because the scent description notes of 'clove cigarettes, freshly dyed hair, and wolf skin boots' kinda gave me the vibe that it would be more a kickass chick wearing a leather jacket- kind of scent, but it's more a straightforward CHRISTMAS scent lol. Did not expect that vibe from the original scent description. If the leather and smoke and leaves and cedar were more prominent, maybe. I just REALLY want a good leather scent :/
_____________________________________________
I hope this review helps out someone looking for new samples to try!
Also, if anyone could recommend a really good leather scent...please hook a girl up? ;)

2024.05.29 01:56 Peaches_offtrail Convertible Hiking Pants Review

tl;dr: I've been surprisingly impressed by the random pair of Marmot Transcend pants I ended up with, and have bought more as my go-to hiking pants. Prana Stretch Zion are kinda overrated. I have a longer review + pictures on my website
Why convertible hiking pants?
I almost never turn convertible pants into shorts. What I do do, however, is zip off the bottom half by about 50%. This allows the pants to mechanically vent through the opening gap you’ve created, giving you about 80% of the benefit of shorts, while also providing close to 100% of the benefit of pants (protection from brush and sun exposure). Over the 15,000+ miles of backpacking I’ve done in pants, most of those miles have been in Prana Stretch Zion Convertibles.
I've ended up with a variety of other convertible pants for various reasons.

General Comments Don’t dry quickly enough. Direction of the zipper makes pants less durable. Pretty good pants overall. Wish fabric were stretchier. Do not purchase. They smell within hours of being used. Perfectly adequate pants. Wouldn’t buy for backpacking.
Stretch Zion Pants
These are the first convertible pants I ever used for long-distance hiking and I fell in love with them. I have thousands of miles of hiking using these.
The Good
They’re comfortable
The most interesting feature to the pants is the integrated belt. I’ve since learned from other pants that sometimes integrated belts can vanish internally and it can be near-impossible to get the belt out again. I have not had this issue with these pants. In fact, these pants are very usable, and the integrated belt mostly works. Of course, the integrated belt does become uncinched during movement, so frequent adjustments may be necessary (e.g. running), but for backpacking the belt works acceptably!
The Bad
What kept me coming back to the Stretch Zion pants is that they have an integrated belt! One less thing to worry about. However, they don’t dry very quickly, and they’re really quite heavy. The single biggest issue, however, is that when you start to convert them to shorts, the front of the knees get revealed first, rather than the back the knees.
The main reason I use convertible pants is so that I can vent my legs by unzipping the pants 50-70% of the way. For the Stretch Zion pants, this means that trees and other brush are likely to enter through your open knee, snag the pants, and stop you in your place. Continued use of the pants like this degrades the zipper. and results in torn and shredded pants around the knee area. When this happens, I retire the pants and they become permanent shorts in my collection. At this point in my life, I will only choose to buy hiking pants that open through the back of the knee first. That is a much better design.
Marmot Transcend Convertible Hiking Pants
I didn’t go out of my way to try these pants. I never would have considered buying them. In fact, the only reason I ended up buying these pants is because I needed to! When hiking the Continental Divide Trail in 2022, I completely destroyed my Stretch Zion pants while traversing through miles of aggressive blowdowns. I also lost my sunglasses to the blowdowns. I walked into Steamboat springs half-naked, and needed some pants. The Marmot store was the only store with convertible pants in my size (28 Waist), so I grabbed them. Of note: Marmot does not have very good warranty service, so know that before buying any Marmot product.
When I switched from Stretch Zions to these pants, I was blown away!
The Good
Moving from Stretch Zion pants to these, I was amazed by what it felt like to have pants that dried quickly. Also, the knees opening in the other direction was a game changer — it allowed for improved venting (better heat dissipation), and also meant that I was less prone to getting stopped suddenly by brush that snagged me through the opening!
The Bad
Unlike my Stretch Zion pants that fail due to punctures from brush material, my Marmot Transcends failed by having the crotch break open. I tore the seems when doing some high steps during rock scrambling. For the rest of my hike, I had to regularly repair the crotch with my sewing kit. My sewing did not maintain the the integrity of my pants for very long.
Other features that I’m ambivalent about: they include side zippers, so you can remove the bottom half of the pants without removing your shoes. I seldom use this feature.
Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible Hiking Pants
I wanted to like these pants, I really did. The only thing to like about them, however, is that they came with a 1.3 oz lightweight belt.
The Good
The Bad
If the pants didn’t smell so bad after very little use, I might be more into these pants. However, I can’t do it. If I use them, even casually for a day, I notice that I smell awful whenever I sit down. I have never had this happen before with anything other than a couple of synthetic-material boxer briefs that I’ve used in the past, and only after intense workouts.
It adds insult to injury that the pants unzip from the front, exposing the knee, making them prone to snags and destruction. The material doesn’t seem durable compared to the other pants in this review (although I just will never use these pants for enough miles to know for sure). All-in-all, I can’t get behind these pants. I’d even go so far as to say, “stay away from these convertible hiking pants!”
KÜHL Renegade Convertible Hiking Pants
I only have around 100 miles of use with these pants for this review, so it may be a little pre-emptive. For most pieces of gear, I aim to get at least 300 miles of backpacking use before making a definitive decision. However, I need to state that I got these pants for free from KÜHL (yay!)
Overall, I think the pants are fine. Their best use is probably for snowshoeing, or less-intense recreational activities. They might also be great for long, urban tourism trips where you’re packing minimal clothing for a variety of activities. They’re usable for hiking and backpacking, and perform acceptably for that. I recently did 40 miles of wilderness bushwhacking in Ventana, and they did what they needed to do!
The pants have also been fine for running (as shorts), use around town, and they look pretty stylish (all things considered) for a convertible pant! I’ll probably continue to use these in normal life, just not for backpacking. If you’re looking for durable, stylish pants with a mix of activities involved, these might just be for you!
The Good
The thing that I like most about these pants is that the zipper pocket is located inside another pocket. Zipper pockets is one of the key things I look for from my hiking pants! A good zipper pocket is essential for securing my hiking wallet (ID, money, credit cards) and car keys. Having this zipper pocket more protected does a lot to assuage my concerns on backpacking trips (or long trips in general).
The Bad
The snaps… omg. Not good. They should not be at the bottom of the pants. They don’t improve fit, and they are the biggest weakness. A friend that joined me for my most recent-bushwhack in Ventana had to make an emergency stop at REI to grab a pair of pants for P.Oak mitigation. On the way down, he mentioned that he had a pair of old pants that kept coming unsnapped, making them terrible for hiking in. Kuhl needs to cool it with their snaps — they’re just not good. Due to bottom-of-pants snap design, pants are unlikely to be durable long-term for backpacking
Additionally, when I was reattaching the bottoms to the pants, the zipper came undone. I’m used to this happening as zippers fail, but never with new gear. This does not instill confidence that the zippers are going to hold up over hundreds of miles of use.
Other features that I’m ambivalent about: the pants include side zippers. This means that you can remove the bottom half of the pants without removing your shoes. I seldom use this feature.

2024.05.29 01:12 kaleviko [All] That stuff kicked

In P4, Cole had a quick sit-down with Denise. He defended his decision to involve Agent Tammy Preston in the investigation.
Cole: "Agent Tammy Preston has the stuff, Denise."
As usual, this didn't sound like that important to think about. Later in P13, Bobby went to get dinner in RR Diner. He told Ed and Norma they got some stuff, too.
Ed: "What's new, Deputy?" Bobby: "Oh, well, we, uh, found some stuff that my dad left today."
Earlier in P9, the deputies opened a small metal tube left behind by Bobby's father, Major Briggs, revealing cryptic instructions. Ed suggested we needed to give this a good thought.
Ed: "What kind of stuff?"
A kind of stuff is private property. Another word for that is possession. Another kind of possession is a supernatural event when an intrusive spirit dominates another being, something that Twin Peaks has been all about. Going forward, let's keep this in mind.
If it was necessary to figure out the "stuff" to make sense of the plot, Tammy would have had something which was equal to what the Major had left for the deputies. The most personal scene of her otherwise detached character was in P5. She was sitting by herself in her cubicle, going through some stuff. Maybe the stuff we needed to find was somewhere there. Among other stuff.
Connecting to what the deputies found from inside the metal tube was Tammy holding two pictures of Cooper. Left, she had a picture of the young agent in his fancy FBI suit. Right, she had the picture of Cooper's aged doppelganger.
We had seen the same doppelganger picture already an episode earlier when the FBI visited Yankton Federal Prison. Inspector Randy Hollister displayed the picture on a large screen, along with all sort of chaotic information about Cooper.
Two Coopers, one with 66.
The scale next to Mr C's head gave his height as 75 inches, 6"3, which could not possibly have been correct. The inconsistency may have suggested there was something in that scale we needed to notice. In the middle of his head, there was a black line pointing to number 66. That was also included in a closeup of the mugshot that was shown when the FBI went to interview the detained man.
Another kind of two Coopers were on the second slip of paper that the deputies recovered from the tube. Written in the middle of it, there was the text, "COOPECOOPER". So as not to miss the idea here, Hawk spelled it out for us.
Hawk: "Two Coopers!"
Next to the right-side COOPER, there was number 66, connecting it to the doppelganger's picture both on the prison's screen and in Tammy's right hand.
All doppelgangers that we saw in the Black Lodge appeared as a kind of one-trick ponies that clearly were not capable of any meaningful operation on their own. This also applied to Cooper's doppelganger. When he made an entry in the season 2 finale, he struggled to even get the curtains open. But all of a sudden, the doppelganger turned into a completely controlled being with a clear plan and a purpose.
Earle got the stuff first.
As BOB had moments before taken Windom Earle's soul from his old body, we probably needed to put these things together so that what happened was BOB possessing the mindless doppelganger with Earle's spirit. Without the possession, the doppelganger would have been useless, but now its plan was likely the Earle's plan. Another kind of possession being stuff, like discussed, we'd start to get an understanding what having this specific stuff would have been all about.
This then takes us to P6 when Richard Horne had an early morning meeting with a nameless newcomer credited as the color Red. When the scene at the sawmill started, Richard was consuming something, off screen. We assumed he had taken some kind of drug, but whatever it was, a moment later it started to have an impact on him.
Richard: "Shit. Oh, tha ... this stuff kicks!"
As the scene progressed, Richard had increasing troubles with reality, as if he was moving towards some kind of climactic moment. Even if the scene cut before that happened, some magic was already dripping through to the world when Red's coin stopped respecting the laws of nature.
Richard got kicked by the stuff.
Much later in P15, Richard held Mr C at gunpoint in front of the Convenience Store. Effortlessly, the doppelganger took the gun from his hand, hit him in the face and then gave him a nasty kicking as he was lying on the ground.
This stuff kicks. Richard also got a kicking from Cooper's doppelganger. What was really happening to him in that warehouse?
Before Richard got beaten, he talked about his mother.
Richard: "You're FBI." Mr C: "How do you figure that?" Richard: "'Cause I seen your picture in your fancy FBI suit."
Going back to Red, just as Richard felt the "stuff" kicking him, Red gave him one of his confusing remarks.
Red: "Have you ever studied your hand?"
Study the hands.
These lines would find their purpose in P5 when Tammy Preston was watching the old photograph of Cooper in his fancy FBI suit. The scene started with a closeup of her holding the picture. Something was wrong, though, as the hands clearly were not her hands that we got a good close-up of later in P7. They might have been Richard's hands, with a suggestion this was the very photograph he was talking about.
That this was the intended approach was further implied by Tammy keenly studying doppelganger's fingerprints - that is, his hands. This way, Richard and his "stuff" would also lead to two Coopers.
These observations would now give their own kind of wild explanation to an earlier baffling idea that the scene between Red and Richard actually continued in P2, with Red now as Jack the garageman and Richard having turned into Mr C, ready to get going with the black Lincoln Town Car and apparently about to kill Jack next.
Richard's abrupt change would have been possible because the "stuff" that he had taken was Cooper's doppelganger, literally transforming him into Mr C. While Richard and Red talked, the younger man would have gradually disconnected from his present reality and drifted to another world where he would possess the doppelganger. Everything else would have changed as well, with Red turning into Jack and his expensive Rolex into the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S 550 Coupé he had in the garage, the apparent counterpart for the sawmill warehouse.
If this was figured out as intended, at certain points in the story, both Tammy and Sheriff Truman had the doppelganger in their possession, respectively, she as a photograph and him as a name on a piece of paper, with Lynch's storytelling again abstracting characters and concepts to the extreme. This would align with an earlier conclusion that both Red and the Sheriff were the same character - ultimately none other than Phillip Jeffries - explaining how Red got the doppelganger he seems to have then given to Richard for a ride, for whatever hidden reason that then was. At that point, it would naturally have been vacated of Windom Earle, this or that way.
How about Tammy and her "stuff" then? She would also have had Cooper's doppelganger right there with her in the cubicle, suggesting her character was more than an FBI agent. Perhaps she got a taste of him as well, implied by the scene ending with her lifting her right hand to her mouth that after a cut inconsistently changed to her left hand.
Or, perhaps she suddenly started to feel a bit carsick and would soon need both of her hands over her mouth.

2024.05.29 01:11 Aromatic-Diamond-424 AIW for resenting my mom and brother?

So I (40F) recently had to move back into my childhood home with my mom (70). This is the first time I’ve ever had to do this since I left Home to decades ago. Coincidentally, my brother (42) also had to move back home due to a medical issue. Oh, joy.
I wish I didn't have to be here bc I feel it's now changed the way I feel about them. Unlike me, my brother comes back here to live once every couple of years and stays for a few years then leaves again. He hasn't paid a bill here in decades. When he's asked to contribute, gets annoyed. He's argumentative and pretty selfish. I used to look up to him so much, but now I can't unsee how he is. My mom used to call me and complain but to see it in action...wow. I've gotten into two arguments with him since I've been back here like we're in high school. It's ridiculous. My mom complains but then they're chumming it up hours later. It's bizarre.
On Saturday I was leaving the house and noticed we'd run out of toilet tissue. (I dont spend alot of time here if I can help it), but assumed someone would get some since they would be in the house all day. I didn't get back until midnight that night. Go to use the bathroom. No tissue. WTF? There's a store three minutes walking from here and my brother just sat on his ass watching TV and couldn't be bothered, I guess. Not even to help out his elderly mother. I certainly didn't expect my mom to go. So I guess they were using paper towels all day? Next day I'm up and outta here at like 8am. I come back around 10p. Again, no tissue. STILL. I was fkn floored, and pissed. I put my shoes on and get ready to head out to the store (after a long fkn day mind you while everyone else is chilling) and now it's, "Oh, while you're at the store, can you get this, get that?" Why wait until I get home?
My brother often calls me while I'm out and says, "Can you bring me back___? I'll give u the money." I never get the money, so I stopped. My mom sits in her room all day in the literal dark (blinds drawn with a blanket over that) watching TV. She only comes out to pee and cook food for herself two or three times a day. But she's not depressed, she says. Idk what most people in their 70s do, but sitting in front of the TV like a zombie doesn't seem like a way to go out, especially when she's relatively healthy and mobile. She asks me to pay her rent out of my bank account (she gives me the money), or asks me to go to the post office to get her a money order instead of opening a checking account. I didn't mind at first, but after a year of doing this, it's inconvenient now because my plate is full and I dont need not one more task. I told her to open an account bc it’s inconvenient. She says no bc some company overdrew her account one time.
My brother complains about his health all day and sits on the couch smoking weed (against dr's recommendation), sniffing and swallowing snot, and burping every three minutes. Literally. He routinely calls my ex for rides, knowing that man broke my heart and disappointed me so much and is not the person he represented himself to be. For all he knows, the man beat my ass (he didn't) and he's riding around cackling with him like buddies. Thing is, he doesn't want to know because then he'd have to choose me over the convenience of having free rides (he doesn't drive). So screw me, I guess. And he lies when he knows my ex is coming and says "Oh, my ride is here", purposely not saying his name thinking I don't know who's picking him up.‘I think my ex does it to make himself look good bc he knows he’s a POS.
I lent my brother money when I was having my own troubles and it took him a year to pay me back when he said I'd have it “by Friday." I dropped everything and flew across the country on my dollar when he had to have emergency surgery right in the middle of my move to make sure he wasn't alone. I don't expect anything, but maybe some respect for my feelings, some consideration. He actually asked me to put money on his cash card at CVS because he doesn't want to open an account because child support will take the money. He’s asked me to hold money in my account so he doesn’t spend it. I used to acommodate him here and there but now I don’t do shit bc this is not normal. He disgusts me now.
The windows don't open in the bedroom I'm sleeping in, which is full of my brother's shit he brought back with him when he moved bk. My mom won't call anyone to fix them because "I don't like the way the house looks and I don't want people in here." I have two feet of walking space in the room. Not kidding. So I sleep amongst boxes and bullshit with no ventilation.
The house itself is mostly dark even during the day because heat rises and the house stays cooler if you block the sun, Mom says. So no natural sunlight. She actually asked me to paint her kitchen, which I know how to do, but there's a whole 6 ft 5 man sitting on his ass in your living room, Mom. Why not ask him? I am a divorced mother of two; one of my children is autistic and he's having mental health issues now caused by Lyme disease. His dad and I are trying to keep him from killing himself. I have no home of my own, a broken heart and soul, no real money to speak of (spent on treatments insurance wont cover and therapies), and I have to deal with the negative energy of living here with lazy depressed people who don't seem to care if I'm comfortable or not.
Am I crazy? Am I wrong? I'm in such a stressful state right now, I can't tell if I am. But this feels fkd and weird and dysfunctional.
I don’t understand how they care so little about...so little. I feel bad for feeling negatively about my family. It wasn't this way growing up. Gotta go, they're bickering again. And I need to grab my headphones to cancel out the constant burping and snorting.

2024.05.29 01:00 SorryEverytime Do you have plans to visit Seoul? Here's a good place to run

As a Korean, I hope more people will share good experiences in Seoul. So let me summarize the good places I ran here in Seoul.
It’s my favorite place. It's not a most "fun" running place, but it provides a very enjoyable running experience. It is mainly wide and neat, and there are some hills, but the angle is not large. There is little odor, bugs, garbage, and unstable land, and bicycle traffic is prohibited, so you can run psychologically comfortably. There are four toilets in the park and convenience stores and cafes, so convenience is very good. A locker is running at a nearby subway station, but honestly, I only enjoy running with bags and water bottles thrown in front of a bear statue in the park. But I don't recommend it!
This is where I'm looking for hill training. There are a paved road circulation course with steep uphill and downhill roads, a hill course that is difficult to climb to the top of the mountain, and irregular tracks. Mainly asphalt and urethane coexist exceptionally. I like to step on asphalt on the uphill road and urethane on the downhill road. In addition, there is a track used as a starting point on the soccer field, but it is not suitable for speed training because it does not meet the standards and is a right angle corner. But many runners love this track! You have to pay attention to the environment here, and you can see several wild animals. (In fact, most mountains in Seoul are like that) I won't go here to run at 2 a.m. Also, be careful of steep downhill!
It is a runner station at Yeouinaru Station on Line 5 and a nearby park course. Honestly, I am come yet. Currently, it is expected to be quite crowded due to various events, so we will visit later. However, it looked pretty cool and the response of the runners around it was good. Runner Station is equipped with facilities such as a non-powered treadmill, changing room, and storage box. Please check this page for more information.
It is a track where amateur runners who run best in Korea train. Several passionate clubs are based here. Free use is available from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., making it the busiest during this time, and it can be used for about $1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. after maintenance. If you are a competitive runner, I think your training experience here will be a great motivation.
In addition, there are many attractive running places in Seoul, such as Namsan Mountain, Seokchon Lake, and Seoul Forest. In particular, no matter where you stay in Seoul, you will be able to find a good course not far away. If you're a runner planning to visit Korea, don't miss a good experience!
Thank you for reading it :) If you know any other good places, please let me know!

2024.05.29 00:59 Bannable_Lecter Random useless trivia I realized in Eloise.

When Eugene and the other guy are intimidating the juror at the convenience store, the music in the background sounds just like the beginning music from 'Funhouse' where Tony is meeting with the guys at the Indian restaurant. I wonder if the studio crew just reused it or perhaps it is a very sly reference to Funhouse.

2024.05.29 00:28 ContentBake1356 My (28F) partner (32M) does not want to fully commit because his career and finances are not where he wants them to be (could i get a male opinion/perspective?)

Hello everyone. This is my [28F] first reddit post ever, so please bare with me. This question stems from a conversation that I had with my therapist years ago and a romantic relationship that I am involved in and have been involved in for about 10 months - but I would love to get a mans perspective
For context on the point about the therapist. I had just gotten out of a toxic 5.5 year relationship. My ex 35M was an ex-nfl player whose career ended shorter than he would have liked due to injuries. As you could imagine, as the years went on and he was further away from football it was harder for him to cope and transition into “normal people life.” He refused to get a “regular job” or work in corporate America and was convinced that he was going to be an entrepreneur and become rich that way. Shocker, it never happened. The farther he got from football, the further he got from really prioritizing the relationship or seemingly caring about me and my needs being met at all.
We broke up due to me finding out about him cheating (and a whole other bunch of traumatizing items) and when I went to see a therapist, one thing that stuck out to me that she said was that it is really hard for a man to focus on a relationship or be a good partner when his finances and career are not where he wants them to be. She went on to say that because of society, many men use their financial state or their career as their identity and when they don’t have it together, it can feel like they are just “floating through society” and its hard for them to really be great anywhere else
Fastforward to today. I 28F have been dating a man 32M for about 10 months now. It started off super casual last summer but got more serious in the beginning of the year. Towards the end of last year he had to drain his savings account to help out with a family emergency on his mothers side of the family. His mother makes a bit of income but he is the one that she turns to in case of emergency. Shortly after that, he made his transition out of the military (Army) and has been trying to figure out what he wants to do next. He’s taken security jobs here and there to meet ends meet. He’s working with a buddy of his on his online business, making several hundred dollars a week. His goal is to be a police officer, but apparently he has some debt in collections (didn’t make the best financial decisions when he was making good money) and he can’t move forward with the process to become a police officer until that is paid off. So I can imagine he feels really stuck
We talk everyday and see each other every week, sometimes multiple times a week. Since he’s in a tough place financially, I’ll grab him stuff from the store when I go grocery shopping and have paid for our dates to take some pressure off of him. If I see he’s having an extra stressful week, I’ll take him to lunch or have him come over and raid my fridge. Its to the point that some days he just won’t eat as much because he only has so much in the fridge. Prior to shit hitting the fan, he would pay for the dates and bring me food when he would come over.
I asked him the other day where he saw this going. Theres no right or wrong answer, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. He said that he had feelings for me, liked me, cared for me (a lot) and was “invested in the relationship”, but that right now he doesn’t even know where he will be or what he will be doing in a couple months and so its hard for him to give me an answer. I referred to our relationship as a “situationship” aka more than friends + romantically involved, but not boyfriend and girlfriend and he got offended/defensive and said that what we had was not a situationship. I asked him to clarify what we were and he said that we were dating and that I was a person he was dating that he cared about a lot and that its def not a situationship because he is not seeing anyone but me. He seemed kind of hurt and was like "you don't think I want to do amazing things for you??"
However, he said that right now, all he can think about is getting his life together and getting back financially to where he was before (he was making above $150k/year prior) because he has multiple family family members that rely on him (including a son he had prior to meeting me). He made a comment about only being able to “focus on one thing at a time” which was interesting to me because I always thought the whole “only women can multitask” thing was a stereotype. But him saying that reminded me of the conversation that I had with my therapist years ago about how its hard for men to be good partners or prioritize a relationship when their finances/career are not in a great place
So I guess my question is, is this true? Is it possible for a man to want a relationship with a woman and have feelings for her - but it be clouded by the fact that he is essentially in survival mode trying to make a transition from one career to another and get his career and finances together? Or is that just a convenient excuse that he is using?

2024.05.29 00:26 GraniteGeekNH Unmanned gas station in Dunbarton

I commute past this, use it every other week or so. It's still got the owl-shaped Wise Potato Chips sign from when it was a (crummy) convenience store.
How many staff-free gas stations exist in NH, I wonder? I bet there are some North of the Notches.

Choosing the Right Garden Shed in New Zealand: Plastic vs. Aluminum/Steel
New Zealand’s unique climate, characterized by high UV radiation, strong winds, and heavy rain, necessitates careful consideration when selecting a garden shed. Two popular options are plastic sheds and aluminum/steel sheds. This article aims to guide you through the decision-making process, comparing these two types based on price, durability, and suitability for New Zealand’s weather conditions. We'll place a special emphasis on the benefits of plastic garden sheds.
Plastic Garden Sheds or resin garden sheds
resin garden sheds Auckland
plastic garden sheds NZ
Benefits
UV Resistance: Plastic sheds are designed to withstand high UV radiation, which is crucial in New Zealand's sunny climate. They are less likely to fade, crack, or become brittle over time.
Weatherproof: These sheds are highly resistant to rain and wind. Their seamless construction prevents leaks, ensuring that your belongings stay dry.
Low Maintenance: Unlike metal sheds, plastic sheds do not rust or corrode. They require minimal upkeep, making them a convenient option for busy homeowners.
Ease of Assembly: Plastic sheds are typically lighter and easier to assemble compared to metal sheds. They often come with pre-cut pieces and detailed instructions.
Drawbacks
Aesthetic Limitations: While modern plastic sheds come in various designs, some may find them less visually appealing compared to traditional wooden or metal sheds.
Security Concerns: Plastic sheds may offer less security than metal sheds as they can be easier to break into.
Aluminum/Steel Garden Sheds
Benefits
Durability: Metal sheds, particularly those made from galvanized steel or aluminum, are highly durable. They can withstand severe weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rain.
Security: These sheds offer better security due to their robust construction, making it harder for intruders to break in.
Aesthetic Appeal: Metal sheds can provide a sleek, modern look that some homeowners prefer.
Drawbacks
Susceptibility to Rust: Although aluminum sheds resist rust, steel sheds are prone to corrosion if not properly treated or maintained.
Heat Conductivity: Metal sheds can become extremely hot in the summer, which may affect the stored items inside.
Maintenance: Metal sheds require regular maintenance to prevent rust and corrosion, especially in a humid or coastal environment.

Durability Comparison

  • Plastic Sheds: With proper care, plastic sheds can last for 10-15 years. Their resistance to UV radiation and moisture makes them a durable choice for New Zealand’s climate.
  • Aluminum/Steel Sheds: Metal sheds can last for 20 years or more if maintained correctly. However, they require regular maintenance to prevent rust, especially in high humidity or coastal areas.

2024.05.29 00:05 Schultz_Brigade Detroit Area Costco Liquor Run

I have to make a special trip to a Detroit Area Costco to buy liquor for summer parties. The most convenient location for me is Ann Arbor. Are all the Detroit area Costcos similar in their liquor offerings? Or are there particular stores that are have better liquor departments? Thanks in advance for any input!

2024.05.29 00:03 No-Card2461 Rez vibe

My first trip to Guam in a couple of decades, and I had forgotten how much it reminds me of the reservation my family is from. I don't mean this in a negative way, I really dig the island but: random dogs and chickens, check. Burned out abandoned vehicles just on the side of the road, check. Cars that should not be on the road, check. Yards full of non functional cars check. Layers of goverment, and goverment functions you don't see any where else. Check. Street and park names no one but the locals can pronounce, so rez it hurts. Murals on any piece of concrete that will hold still... check. A ton of non chain convenience stores with vinyl signs, yeap. Locals going "native secure" when they want to talk about someone, been there done that. Houses that have that section 8 feel or I can't believe it hasn't been condemned feel, check. The inability for a house to stay consistently painted, yeah. Just enough spanish stuff left over to remind you that they were the first non consensual vistors, seems like it. Brand new buildings with empty parking lots that have a political pork barrel feel, seen them. Cops that seem like they know all the shenanigans because they used to be the primary culprits, maybe. Auntie mafia not so secretly running the whole damn thing, seems like it. Greetings when mothers/Aunts involve a interrogation on who you mothers family is and a 10 generation deep dissertation. Just need some white guilt jewelry table hustles and a casino or two to get the full feel.
