AITH if I hate that my hubby's sis sleeps in our rented room 3x a week

2024.05.19 15:45 lostmomma1128 AITH if I hate that my hubby's sis sleeps in our rented room 3x a week

Context: I'm just renting a room in an apartment. I rented here when I was single, then nabuntis and nagkaanak. We lived shortly with my in-laws but bumalik din kami dito ng anak ko since aside from my work, I'm not comfortable with the setup dahil mahirap naman talaga makitira kahit okay naman sila, iba pa rin pag solo. My husband only joins us during weekends due to his work din. It's been 3 years na ganito setup namin. Nung 1st 2 years, kami lang ng anak ko pag gabi, stay out ang yaya. This year, my niece joined us since college na sya and para may kasama ako tuwing weekdays. Then uuwi siya during weekends. Ipinaalam ko to ng maayos sa husband ko, siya pa nga nagsuggest so okay ang setup namin.
Now here's the issue. My sis-in-law works malapit sa location ko. Dati umuuwi pa sya sa kanila everyday from work which is more than an hour of travel din.
I really value my space.
Tapos yung once a week, naging twice a week na.
This is not about pagkain or whatever, walang issue yun.
Am I the asshole ba talaga? Nega lang ba talaga ako.

2024.05.19 15:04 Sufficient_Sun_5070 A daughter who has to be strong for herself....

I'm a daughter (only child) who is on the verge of being disowned for choosing a partner that isn't according to the social standards my parents think the world of. I have spent 2-3 years trying to convince my parents, calmly explaining my relationship and choice. Nothing new, I know, but when you're facing this yourself, it can be so gut-wrenching and can really make you feel ill mentally and physically. I'm keen to know what people have to say about this experience....
In return for being the 'best daughter' all these years, never questioning their choices, all I have received is a whole load of blackmailing and pseudo-medical problems that they're facing because of me especially the relationship choice I have made, "I will go suicide because this is shameful and not acceptable".
I knew it would be tough for them as he is 14 years older than me and has a past, but this relationship hasn't occurred overnight, nor have I been irrational in my choice. This relationship has stood strong over 6 years, 3 years of long distance, while I moved to a different country and he did too. We broke up in the first 6 months to make peace, knowing my parents would never accept this, but in all honestly, he is the best guy that I could love and be loved by. He has stood strong through all odds and difficulties that I have faced, being my bestest friend which is how it all started.
When I tried to make my parents meet my partner a few years ago, they downright refused, saying if he arrived at their doorstep, we can't say no; we don't have the heart to age shame someone or say anything callous, so DO NOT let him come home. With this, I left with a heavy heart and returned to my home (another country). My partner had to cancel his flights. The drama hasn't shut down; they keep sending me biodatas of boys who are better suited for their image. Aside from the passive aggressive messages, emails and calls, they have made distant relatives and family friends call me to say what a bad daughter I am to put my parents retirement and image in the society in lingo. However, despite all this background drama, my partner tried to visit them few months ago to make his intentions clear, but unfortunately, they were not home. Meanwhile, he has met a few of my best friends who give us their best wishes.
To add context, my parents moved overseas despite a lot of resistance from their families; my mum in particular was desperate to get away from her nasty in-laws. Like many NRIs leaving the country, mine received statements such as haha your daughter will marry a foreigner, and you'll regret it after many years. I guess by me marrying according to their societal standards, it would've been a perfect image cleaning exercise for them. My parents created a few blown drama last year that my mum ended up in hospital after having cpr in the office, turns out they were partying with friends the whole weekend while I worried myself sick. All this to get me to agree to their choices and get out of my relationship.
While it is so reasonable and practical to just get on with your life and get married, how do you deal with the mental abuse from your parents day in, day out and especially suicidal threats. How do you heal yourself? I would highly appreciate your thoughts. Thank you in advance...

2024.05.19 14:58 Amatheya1 Has anyone ever seen one of these?

Has anyone ever seen one of these?
So, my father-in-law worked as a buyer for Bluebird toys between 1987 until they sold to Mattel in the late 90s. He was one of the last to leave and while they were packing up the office they put all the toys and games left over on big tables in the development department and said take what you want, anything left is going in the skip.
This is one of the toys my fathe-in-law took. I know that it being in a jet fair industrial bag means that it came direct from Bluebirds Hong Kong operations and was never packaged for sale. I also know that I have found several prototypes among the Polly Pockets he took 🤯
Does anyone recognise this? I’ve looked on line but can’t find another one. The base is marked 1997.

2024.05.19 14:51 Hungry_Nihilist On 1L: Reflections of an average non-traditional First Generation Rising 3L

This post is specifically crafted to assist incoming law students who may be experiencing anxiety about their first year in law school. It aims to provide guidance and reassurance, addressing common concerns and offering practical advice.
I'm not an overachiever in law school; I'm about as average a student as possible. So, if you are one of those perfectionist students, this probably isn't for you
Feel free to add your own!
Reflection 1 - I did a lot of research on what I needed to prepare before 1L started, but the most helpful thing I learned was how to take a test, but you need to know when to do them. You can't take practice tests until much later in the semester (taking practice tests early without learning all the materials is pointless and an exercise in futility), so when you study, work on hypotheticals involving the subject matter you are learning. If you work on practice tests too early, you might burn up all the available practice tests. Some teachers only have 1 or 2 available for students to review. This means you will only have more to practice when you need it most at the end of the semester. You can still IRAC hypo's and get your practice in that way when studying.
Reflection 2 - Do all the practice tests or as many as possible. This means something other than sitting down for 4 hours and cranking out five tests. I suggest doing at least two complete tests (or however you feel comfortable with), outlining your answers for the other tests, and reviewing the answer guides if they are provided to you. In order to outline an answer, I would identify the issue and the rule I would need to use, then maybe write a few sentences on how I'd attack the analysis (Do this to avoid burnout essentially; 4 hours of tests are draining). Understanding the types of questions that can appear on old tests lets you know the testable issues you might encounter on the exam. I also write down how often I see particular issues; it helps narrow down what you would need to include in your outlines.
Reflection 3—You only really need rules and tests to answer exam questions. All the other stuff is fluff. Ensure your analysis covers your arguments' strengths and weaknesses, and you'll be fine.
Reflection 4 - (Specifically for your first year) Read! Read! Read! During your first semester, you should spend most of your time studying and reading. Learning how to read case law is a skill, but once you understand what you are looking at when reading cases, the process goes a lot faster. Be sure to get caught up on reading before the last month. YOU WON'T SURVIVE (I mean you will but your life will genuinely suck).
Reflection 5—Everyone in law school is an acquaintance. Some might be friendlier than others, but everyone is an acquaintance. If you approach your relationships in law school as a business professional, you'll be fine. If you are a guy, don't try to fuck everything that moves, it's not a good look and nothing spreads faster than news of the section fuck boy.
Reflection 6 - If you don't get straight A's, it's not the end of the world. Do what you need to do to get a job in the summer and bust your ass when you get that job. Work hard in any job you have in law school. Make yourself available to do things around the office, and always tell your supervisor what you would like to improve on when you start a position. For example, in my 1L summer job, I told my supervisors I wanted to get better at drafting motions. Over ten weeks, I left my 1L summer job with five good writing samples, including one I wrote for the big boss at the firm.
Good luck to all incoming law students! As long as you put in some effort, you will do fine.

2024.05.19 14:41 SubstantialCreme7748 Howie Carr in Canton Townies and the Karen Read Case

https://www.bostonherald.com/2024/05/18/howie-carr-karen-read-trial-is-a-corrupt-canton-townie-sideshow/
POSTED: Howie Carr: Karen Read trial is a corrupt Canton townie sideshow
PUBLISHED: May 18, 2024 at 4:25 p.m. UPDATED: May 18, 2024 at 4:27 p.m.
Paul Revere used to summer every year in Canton, but he wouldn’t recognize the place today.
One thing, though, hasn’t changed since the 18th of April in ’75 — the locals still love their midnight rides, but with one big difference.
Paul Revere wasn’t hammered out of his mind when he was on horseback, spreading the alarm to every Middlesex village and farm.
Through the first 14 days of the Karen Read murder trial in Dedham, we have learned much about life in the Town of Canton, post-Paul Revere.
As you know, Read is accused of murdering her boyfriend, BPD cop John O’Keefe, by drunkenly running him over in a snowstorm in January 2022.
His body was found outside the home of another BPD officer, who has since sold the house, gotten rid of his phone and dog and abruptly retired from the job, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
How screwed up is this case? Well, the feds are all over it like white on rice.
Read’s defense attorneys have said the G-men’s accident-reconstruction experts have concluded that O’Keefe couldn’t possibly have been killed by a car.
Then there are all those texts that haven’t been “mistakenly” deleted…
The state’s lead investigator is thisclose to the Hibernian hillbillies who are up to their eyeballs in this mess.
According to opening statements, State Trooper Michael Proctor’s first thought when he was assigned the case was to text his Canton high-school buddies. He told them he was already searching online for nude photos of Karen Read.
Proctor is now under investigation by MSP Internal Affairs — if only because it’s the feds who discovered his texts, rather than the corrupt Staties themselves.
How will Proctor do on cross-examination? Do you remember an LAPD detective by the name of Mark Fuhrman?
Back on the stand Tuesday will be Jen McCabe. She’s the one who’s missing one of her front teeth.
Don’t confuse Toothy McCabe with Julie Albert. Julie is the one who chews gum while testifying. Her father’s name is/was Jack Daniels — coincidence?
Julie is married to Chris Albert. He did a six-month state bit in 1995 after killing a Hungarian exchange student in a hit-and-run accident.
His public defender was one John Prescott, whose sister is the judge in the case — Beverly Cannone. She’s a lifelong payroll patriot from Quincy, like the rotund district attorney, Meatball Mike Morrissey.
If you want to hide something real good, just stick it in one of Judge Cannone’s law books.
From her courtroom rulings, Cannone seems to believe that the synonym for “exculpatory” is “excluded,” as in, if the evidence is exculpatory for Karen Read, it’s excluded.
Chris Albert, by the way, is a Canton selectman. As the only jailbird in the fight, he was elected in a landslide. Forget it Jake — it’s Canton.
Even if you haven’t been paying close attention, there are easy ways to figure out who’s who. The townies — which is everyone except the defendant — all pronounce their hometown not as “Canton” but as “Can-UHN.”
Here’s how the examination begins after each witness is sworn in.
Where do you live? Can-UHN. Where were you born? Can-UHN. Where did you go to high school? Can-UHN High.
Have you ever been anywhere else? Yes, once I drove to a packy… in Stough-UHN.
Selectman Albert owns the local pizza parlor. On the night John O’Keefe died outside his brother’s house, he closed his shop, then walked across the street to a local dive where he ordered “appetizers.” That’s how good his own restaurant is.
Then, meeting up with the rest of the Can-UHN townies, the selectman ordered the usual — a round of Fireballs. How Canton is it?
After last call, he offered to take the crapulous crew back to his pizzeria for some free eats. Everybody said… nah.
Almost all these people live, or did live, in the same houses they grew up in, bought by their parents 50 years ago as they fled Boston after the start of busing.
Lucky for them they inherited these tear-downs, because otherwise most of them would have already fled back to their natural habitat — trailer parks.
See, Canton’s on the commuter-rail line, so housing prices have been going up, up and away. It’s only a matter of time until all these low-rent losers are priced out.
So resentment is simmering among the old Can-UHN crowd. They don’t like what’s happening — just last year, their favorite hang-out, Big D’s Neponset Grill, went out of business.
It was the last place in town where you could get a fried-baloney sandwich. Now that was some really fine Can-UHN cuisine.
What must the U.S. attorney be thinking as he watches this legal lynching unfold in deepest, darkest Dedham? The defense has said in open court that the feds already have a proffer — a deal — with the only witness who didn’t go to Can-UHN High.
The hack prosecutor did not dispute the statement.
Judge Cannone has instructed all the parties not to mention that federal grand jury, where at least three cops have apparently told conflicting stories from what they testified before Meatball’s state grand jury.
But the other day, one of the younger witnesses was asked who’s questioned him about O’Keefe’s death.
“The feds,” he blurted out in front of the jury.
Well, what could you expect? He went to Can-UHN High.
This trial is drawing a huge audience. Unlike Trump’s kangaroo-court case in New York, there are cameras in the Dedham courtroom. Live streaming coverage.
And Karen Read is not guilty. Tensions are running high. There have been fights and restraining orders — and that’s just among the reporters.
Aidan “Turtleboy” Kearney is the blogger who’s made the case into a national story. He’s been barred from the courtroom for certain witnesses — the “McAlberts,” as he calls the Alberts and the McCabes.
The McAlbert witnesses begin weeping when they talk about Turtleboy. He makes them want to spit out their chewing gum and order another round of Fireballs.
How dare he call their hero Jailbird Chris Albert “Chicken Parm Charlie?”
I have Turtleboy on my radio show most afternoons. On Friday, he said Jen McCabe has a worse set of teeth than George Washington did.
The most appealing thing about this case is that you can watch it and feel better about your own hometown. In Holbrook, they listen to Chicken Parm Charlie and realize that he makes their ex-selectman Daniel Lee look like Daniel Webster.
In Methuen, they see Canton’s Keystone Cops and think, you know, maybe Chief Solomon wasn’t that bad after all…
If Paul Revere could only see what’s become of Canton, he’d put the spurs to Brown Beauty and keep riding. Only instead of “The British are coming!” he’d be yelling something different. “The white trash are coming!”

2024.05.19 14:09 bettabeatie Last day of maternity leave

Now as I'm nursing my baby, I'm finally realizing it's time to mentally let go. Tomorrow It's back to work at office again after 3 months. Practically, I'm all prepared with my pump equipment and everything, but mentally I'm not so sure.
I mean the 3 months of maternity leave were wild. The whole process of the baby leaving my body, and the aftermath, staring fearfully at this strange small thing wondering what on earth have I done. For a split second, my medication-addled brain thought about yeeting the baby out the hospital window so I can go back to my normal life. Not to mention crying so hard in the hospital because of baby's hunger crying and inability to change a diaper that my blood pressure shot up and the nurse got concerned about the reading until I breathed it back down).
It was a frenzy from hospital (2 days) to confinement center (4 weeks) to my parent's place (2 weeks), in laws' place (3 weeks) and finally my parents' place for good, there was barely any time to rest and the crazy baby schedule certainly didn't help. But I toughed it out - through the sleepless nights and nap-filled days and pumping and pains, trying to get to know this stranger of a baby. Finally with practice and also that baby's bigger, husband is capable of taking care of her and I am also comfortable doing so.
Today hubs, I and my parents went out to celebrate baby's 3rd monthsary with cake and groceries at a mall. Everyone came back cranky as baby was overstimulated but calmed down after an hour. So I'm feeling kinda lonely right now.
I cried tonight thinking I'll no longer be glued to baby nearly 24/7 because of the constant nursing (only 2 bottles a day), staring at her cute face, knowing she's just in the other room and not a drive away. I hope she doesn't forget me or think I left her behind :(
Can't believe the maternity period is finally over. I grew a lot tougher mentally for sure.

2024.05.19 12:46 throwawayayahs Your take?

Traditional background girl educated well and was told to be an homemaker and she leaves her job and gets married. Traditional in-laws don't disclose any information and red flags not visible. Husband is a popular person in the community and social person while she is opposite. She was strictly raised with doing education and household chores and office. No life outside this while he has been living and enjoying nicely. She is also not that arrogant girl but her introverted nature is not going well with in-laws. She doesn't know much about politics etc., thanks to her dysfunctional family upbringing. She is knowledgeable about many things but they treat her horribly and will humiliate her like she is not worth anything at all.
Husband and his family wants her to do everything and please them and work in physical labour jobs in tier 3 or bring dowry which they had refused before marriage. Now how should she eat food when he makes comments like she is fat and doesn't work but always ready to eat. He is not able to bring groceries properly too. This girl has been brought in unstable financial status and respects money and scared of losing things, but her husband who has grown up in poverty is very reckless and does what he wants with money and things. He is generous too, but so is she and sadly he mocks her with his family. He doesn't even think or care that he is hurting her. He accused her of being mean and stingy etc., burden to society, antisocial behaviour who doesn't care about fellow beings etc. he helps people and has a good name in his circle. This emotional and mental abuse is taking a toll on her.
Why is he like this? He is more interested in his family and friends than his wife.

2024.05.19 12:45 Dense_Championship79 will sponsor get notified if you are taking on additional work on SWV?

while working on skilled worker visa, if you take up additional work (< 20 hours in specific occupation codes) fully following immigration and employment contract laws, can the primary sponsor employer legally find out through UKVI or home office that you are doing additional work?
just to give an example, you work as a civil engineer at a real estate company XYZ where XYZ is your SWV sponsor. You start a fitness studio and work as a fitness instructor < 20h a week 100% legally (not breaking your employment contract and not breaking any immigration laws), will XYZ get notified through UKVI or home office that you are partaking in these activities?

Does this mean the IBP is turning a blind eye and allowing it? Why don't lawyers report this? Is it because they fear being seen as envious? Just curious. Thanks!

50hrs in and I’ve finally done it, I’ve always been a good officer and upheld the law. He offered me $200 and I could not resist, gave him the great approved stamp and sent him on his way. I was immediately caught for corruption and fined $320, needless to say I’m never doing it 😂😂

2024.05.19 11:54 stvrlightt2008 I need some advice

Hello everyone this is my first post so I may be rambling a bit and also there might be here few mistakes in grammar
So I need some advice about how to deal with my father's decisions . My father M(47) has made a lot of depts from the bank as well as from family members and other relatives/friends. My father who grow up in poor family and who has very bad luck in business and office work my father had been accused of some very bad thing in the past because of that my father was not good for a lot of years even now he has not gotten the promotion he deserves or he should have . His college who started with him at the same time at the same company are where ahead of him and make almost 6 figures a year . Now from my childhood my family has never been poor or has never been in a type of situation where we might be a avictiated or have any problems with food, clothes. My mom who grow up in a very educational household by that I mean my grandfather was a principle of a school and had a very good reputation among our city. So obviously my mother side of the family is very well of their educationally well of as well. My father's side of the family was not well educated they had only gone up to the 8th or 12th grade my father is the only one who was very passionate about his education so he had to go through a lot to receive his education my grandfather did not support him neither it is sisters or brother he has six sisters and two brothers which and none of them supported him doing the hardest times of his life he worked hard to get everywhere he went he was a great father figure to me . Last year at march my father open a new business and was hoping to do well in his business but because of my father side of the family's greed he had suffered a lot of loss my father is a Banker so it was very tough for him to do both business and a job my mom was a great support for him but my father who had no supporters for most of his life I don't think he can trust anybody anymore not even me or my mom.me and my mom have a very close relationship we share everything with each other. My dad struggled a lot with his family my mom bought many lands from his family and helped my cousins rise up my mom and dad supported and basically raised my cousins for as long as I can remember Ever since I was two months old my cousin have lived with us for free my mom paid for the education and gave food like rice vegetables such other things for my dad side of the family to live but they where were Ungrateful till the very end they had accused my mum from stealing to not treating them right and every single thing they could accuse her of even though she she supported them for more than 20 years. Once I went to my youngest aunt's house they were talking about how my cousins were living at my house my youngest aunt started saying that her son and daughter can never visit their uncle's house because of how my mum treats them I was 13 at the time I set out loud what do you mean you never come to our house even when my dad was sick I had been in an accident you did not come to visit me once you said you were busy and I understood that that you could be busy about your life but how could you say that we do not treat you right when you don't even come to our house my aunt was very surprised and yelled at me for saying such stuff when I was so young that this is because my mother told me to tell everyone about this. And this was one of the many stories that I have about her bullying me and my mother she was the main leader of my father's side of the family my grandparents died when I was at least three or four years old I don't remember them much but from what I know or from what I remember they were not very kind people either my grandfather had burdened my mum with a lot of the things like cleaning his washroom and he would accuser that she was ugly and something like that as I do not remember much I cannot tell more about this sorry my mum and my dad forgave them every single time my cousins my aunts everyone bullied me and my mother and father recently my father's eldest brothers son he's also one of my eldest cousins called my mum to accuse my father of stealing from our land for context we own a lot of land in my father's home site and those were mostly sold to my mum by my father's second brother. And their farms in one way we were accused of stealing by eating our own planted weeds my grandfather's house which was very old was renewed by my mum as she had the money to do so but all the credit was taken by my oldest uncle and now his son was accusing us of stealing my mother became hysterical and started crying and start calling my dad she told him because of his wrong decisions because of his wrongdoings now we were suffering even though we were innocent we were never able to speak up about it not even now my mother's side of the family knows about this but they cannot do much because in our country it's never right to interfere between a in law's family.
So can someone give me advice about what I should do about this.

2024.05.19 11:26 catlitterpaw Amending a Puerto Rico birth certificate

I’m not a resident of Puerto Rico, but I am military and temporarily living here. I just had a baby and am trying to get him a birth certificate, but in Puerto Rico the law states that everyone receives the father’s last name and then the mother’s last name. We don’t want this. We just want the Father’s last name, but the office that issues birth certificates says that if we don’t accept both, then we will need to hire a lawyer and go to court to try and change it (with no guarantee).
Is there any way around this, or is it easy to just change the birth certificate when I return to the 50 states after my tour?

2024.05.19 10:57 KamkamSD What information is law enforcement provided in CA when they scan your license plate?

This is honestly just out of curiosity and an attempt to settle an argument with some close friends. Can anyone tell me what a peace officer in CA views when they scan a civilians license plate??? Do scanning the plates relay back to them a full breakdown of the individuals vehicle? (who it’s registered to, and their personal information, etc.) or does it just convey to law enforcement whether the plates were reported stolen? Or both? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks! :)
