Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my journey of developing my first mobile app, Uni Explorer, using React Native. It took me about five months to bring it to life, and I’m proud to say it has been downloaded over 500 times in just two weeks!

Ordering a scooter online is a bit of a risky adventure, especially when you review the terms and conditions and the return policy. But, you have to agree to it in able to place the order. Less risky is buying at a dealer, but you pay a significant premium for the product. I've read horror stories online about folks receiving junk and even non-operating scooters. That is a possiblity, and with the terms to which you agree, very risky.
We were lucky, though, with Family Go Carts (FGK) and the Trailmaster Milano N 50cc scooters.
I ordered, online, two Trailmaster Milano N 50cc scooters from FGK - one for me, one for my husband - on May 1,2024. We received the scooters on 5/18/2024. Considering US shipping demand, that is a reasonable time to delivery. The lady at FGK who called me to coordinate the delivery was kind, and gave instructions on how to receive and prepare for the first run (ie. Change oil - upon arrival, the engine has shipping oil in it).
Shipping: "Free", but you have to pay access fee and lift-gate fee. Not too bad considering how shipping rates have skyrocketed in the last few years.
She asked for our second choice in colors. Thankfully, we got our first choice - light blue and white for me and black and white for my husband.
Unpackaging: Remove cardboard (there's no bottom to the cardboard). Just cut down the cardboard at any one of the corners, then walk around the steel skeleton shipping cage. Then you'll take off the top of the steel shipping skeleton. Undo all bolts and nuts on the bottom. You'll a;sp have to undo the two bolts on the top that attack the steering column fork to the steel cage. Then, just tip off the cage on one end, and continue tipping it off to the other end.
Assembly: No instructions for it. Some assembly is a no-brainer, but the handlebars and front wheel require explanation. Thankfully, someone posted a video on the assembly of Trailmaster Milano: https://youtu.be/rMyJEkH3b4U?si=VRcDlm2-jIvNNGfC , I couldn't have done it without that video.
Handlebar assembly: First, just get the bolt in - front to back, with the curvey part of the washer against the column and between the column and the bolt head. Notice you can't get to the nut on the backside (unless you have 6" fingers of a contortionist). Don't worry like I did. Get the bolt in, assemble the front wheel, then come back the the handlebar column. Turn the bars far to one side. Now you can reach the backside of the bolt and add the nut. We added blue Loctite to the axle and the steering column/handlebar threads for the nuts.
Make sure you connect the blinkers. Trial and error to get left blinker coordinating with left blinker connector. Two trials if unlucky - not too bad.
You'll still have one bod-based connector without a mate. Again, don't worry like I did - that's for the headlight. You'll assemble that later.
Front wheel assembly: The front wheel assembly is best with two people. First goal is to get the scooter out of the steel shipping skeleton and on flat ground so you can support the scooter on its center stand.
Get the scooter out of the steel shipping skeleton. This will require some muscle and two persons. Remove the front axle bolt that holds the scooter to the bottom part of the steel shipping skeleton. One straddles the scooter while keeping the front lifted up)shaking up and down) while the other removes the bolt axle. Once the bolt axle is removed, with muscles, one straddles the scooter while keeping the front lifted up and carefully walking through the steel cage bottom while the other person pushes from behind. Then, get the scooter center stand down so the scooter rests on that on flat, solid ground. We ended up balancing the frame of the scooter on a block of wood, then putting the center stand down.
Now, work on the front wheel. Slip the silver, stainless axle bolt spacer into the wheel's disc side. It's frustrating getting the wheel on because you have to get the brake disc lined up with the brake pads (remove the pad spacer put in for shipping and toss it) and the speedometer on the other side correctly lined up with the wheel and fork, ALL that simultaneously while getting it lined up to insert the axle. Fun times! You may end up with assembly partners snapping at each other and swearing - a lot. Persistence and patience and it will get done. Add blue Loctite for final tightening on the axle nut.
Oil change: Drain out all the shipping oil. There's a lot in there. After draining, we added about two cups of 15W40.
Headlight and front cowl assembly: Connect the headlight to the body's headlight connector. Use the included zip ties to secure all the wires out of the way and neatly, without putting too much strain on any connections. Make sure you put the U-shaped, color matched plastic cover (in horizontal plane) separating the handlebars speedometer instruments from the front cowl. Snap it into the tabs. THEN, attach the front headlight cowl to the body. Don't do like I did - get the headlight front cowl section on then try to snap in the cover. I had to remove the headlight front cowl, snap in the color-matched cover, then re-attach the front headlight cowl.
Topcase/trunk: Best with two persons, but can be done with one. Big enough for a half helmet, gloves, goggles, wallet, and other little things. Looks good on the scooter, too.
Battery installation: This can be tricky. You have to have a sqare nut below the terminal screw. If you put the battery in the scooter and try to get those nuts under the terminal, you won't be able to do it. If you just try to balance the square nuts on the battery while dropping the batter into the scooter's battery compartment, the square nuts fall off. We then secured the nuts to the batter with the terminal screw only half-turned. Then drop the battery in and complete connections. First, connect the black, then connect the red. The batteries we received were fully charged.
Moment of truth: Put premium gas in the tank. Since the carburetor is empty, you'll have to let the starter work a bit to get gas flowing into the engine. Didn't even take three minutes. Started right up. Whew. Let it run for a while.
One sees many horror stories about buying Chinese scooters online from dealers. And, those stories are bad. As I said above, you have to agree to the terms and conditions before you can buy. Those terms and conditions put all the risk on the buyer, not the dealer. So, know what you're getting into.
But, thankfully, FGK did well. We received both Trailmaster Milano N 50 scooters in a timely manner, without damage, and the scooters fired up right away. Good idle speed and it sounds like the aifuel mix is spot on.
Finally, registration of your scooter in your state: My state, Virginia, requires registration of 50cc scooters so you can display a license tag on the back. To register, you need a title. You don't get a title from this dealer. But, you get enough documentation from the dealer (manufacturer's transper document, invoice, bill of lading) where you can fill out an easy affidavit for title. Get it notarized and submit with your title application and registration. Pretty easy and far easier and quicker than waiting for the dealer to do it for you, IF the dealer is willing to do it for you, that is. I didn't even ask FGK for a title transfer document, so I can't comment on their responsiveness to such a request. I did the easy work-around at the DMV.
So far, so good. I've gotten it up to 32 MPH (speedo reading, not GPS-confirmed), and that wasn't at full throttle. I'm still being careful with getting to full throttle until the engine has a bit of time to break in.
I am aware that we will have to wrench these scooters from time to time. Thanks to so many videos available online about how to work on the 139QMB GY6 50cc engines, I think we can do this.

2024.05.19 11:47 cuBLea "Dark" MR: Memory Reconsolidation for Fun, Profit, and Psychosocial Manipulation (partial essay)

NOTE: I drafted this before reddit slashed its allowable post size and decided it was unpublishable at that point. A friend strongly recommended I post whatever reddit will allow and if people wanted to see more, I could post more of it. So here's the first segment of it.
Therapeutic memory reconsolidation has a dark side. It's not something typically discussed outside of the coffee rooms of the lab-rat and clinical-practices sets, where the tedium of the current work occasionally gives rise to darkly humorous dystopian speculations.
This dark side is not simply the stuff of mad-science speculation and dark fantasy. In fact, its existence predates even the discovery of the MR process itself. And it has already resulted in mild-to-catastrophic negative consequences for hundreds of thousands of people. (Depending on your perspective, it's conceivable that the current victim count could be in the tens or even hundreds of millions ... we're notorious for undercounting casualties of previously-unrecognized catastrophes. Fair disclosure: I'm one of those casualties.) It's an aspect of MR that I believe is worth knowing about for anyone seeking to exploit MR in therapy either as a practitioner or as a client.
For almost as long as the transformation (i.e. MR) phenomenon has been recognized, there have been tales of sordid applications of this effect. Religious sects, particularly the charismatic ones, have been exploiting the MR phenomenon for thousands of years, typically labeling it as either divine healing or proof of faith. Not that the results aren't beneficial for the individual. In most cases they are. But reconsolidation is only a part of the whole process of restoring health to old psychic wounds. The inducement of therapeutic MR in an individual not ready for the experience can be among the most brutal tortures imaginable, but most of the harm that comes from misapplication of the MR phenomenon can be traced to opportunistic exploitation of the setup for, and aftermath of, the transformational experience, and it's my belief that most of this harm is done by individuals and/or groups with little or no sense of the risks involved in
Keith Raniere's NXIVM organization is probably the most widely-known example of a cult founded largely on a MR-consistent methodology bent to less-than-humane ends. It made national news for years in Canada based on allegations of financial wrongdoing and sexual scandals, its leader was indicted in the US in 2018 and was sentenced to 120 years, and in 2020, not one but *two* major exposé miniseries/docuseries aired on streaming services.

This series centers more around IO's personal journey with the cult, and the people who were caught up in its darkest aspects.
"The Vow", first to be released, was not a fun watch for me. Thirty years prior to this, I had been ensnared by another cult, closely affiliated with the Unity Church of Today in Warren, MI at that time. Both of these cults exploited phenomena surrounding therapeutic memory consolidation as their primary lures years before we even knew that MR had a scientific footing.
The two organizations had shockingly similar modi operandi. So similar, in fact, that I still suspect that NXIVM's founder might have gotten much of his basic training from CoT's Pavillon resort in Quebec, whose month-long "therapeutic retreat" programs were a clever and completely unabashed cult indoctrination program. Ok ... well ... nearly completely unabashed ... during the month that I attended, we were only told that we were being groomed for the cult on the third-to-last day, by which time they surely knew who was ripe for the picking and who wouldn't be swayed, and were pretty confident of no open objection to such an announcement.
I want to make clear that this is not a word of exaggeration. The head of the "clinic" literally told us that if it felt to any of us like we were being recruited for a cult, he assured us that yes, we were. Nobody gasped, nobody even giggled. And as if to prove that this wasn't just dark humor, the director assured us that it was all fair play on their part since his was "the only cult that matters". That is exactly how confident Pavillon were of their methods. (Or at least they were in mid-1989 ... Pavillon appears to have vanished in the mists of history. Not every great cult idea grows up to make it to the big leagues.)
Neither "Seduced" or "The Vow" actually get under the hood and explain the psychology underlying the cult's success, let alone in context of therapeutic memory reconsolidation. In fact, I'm pretty sure that MR was never mentioned in either series. But right from the introductory/demo sessions presented in the first episode of "The Vow", most readers of this sub will instantly recognize that NXIVM leveraged the benefits and relative simplicity of MR-consistent transformational therapies to capture the attention, loyalty, and ultimately the wealth of prospective cult members.
But that's not nearly enough to lead us to a real understanding of how this happens. If either of these series' had been able to achieve that, this post could effctively end here. It's my belief that those of us who are consumers of MR-consistent services, or who work with consumers, do need this understanding. When the mechanics of the seduction are understood, it doesn't just help us to identify how malignant influences were brought to bear on potential victims, or provide us with a degree of immunity from those influences. It can also help us to better identify and relate to individuals who may be particularly vulnerable to these influences, and not just in therapy cults, but in all cult-like cultural groups, and get a better sense of how we can best communicate with people living under less-than-virtuous influence.
Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be all that difficult to acquire this understanding. Simply knowing basic MR theory and therapeutic application takes you halfway to mastery in a world still largely ignorant of how transformative change works. And the successes of Pavillon and NXIVM, coming as they did well before the general public even knew that MR was a "thing", pretty much proves it. But solving the remainder of the problem appears to involve first understanding how the application of MR-consistent methods could lead to cult exploitation in the first place.
MR-consistent transformational phenomena were relatively common knowledge back as far as the early 1980s in new-age/psychotherapy circles, and were even well-understood by certain inner-circle dwellers. And it was clear at least a decade earlier that certain disciplines practiced in a certain way were capable of producing remarkable therapeutic effects, even if no one could quite explain how or why. All Raniere and Pavillon needed to do was to refine techniques already known to be highly effective and they could reproduce those results. Which is exactly what happened, and this gave these two groups a powerful enticement, or a free sample product if you prefer, for people interested in living better, happier lives. Whatever else they did that we would likely view as objectionable or even evil, they both figured out how to get people to transformational moments in ways which were a lot easier than Erhard Seminars Training (EST), more efficient than religious or mystical practices (Transcendental Meditation, kundalini yoga, visionquesting, etc.), and less exclusive/expensive than a stay at Esalen or a year or two of the "talking cure".
So whatever we may think/feel about their methods, credit where due: they knew a good thing when they saw it and they got the transformational part right. So how did techniques which we rely upon to free us from exploitation by our own nervous systems become tools for THEIR exploitation? On the surface it seems like using MR to coerce and enslave people makes about as silly as trying to poison someone with multivitamins. But there's a clever logic to it, and to understand this we need to look beyond the bounds of MR and the transformational phenomenon, and at how the entire transformation process is managed. (And there's the operative word: managed, not facilitated.
We know MR as the process that underlies transformation. But transformation isn't healing, but only a subprocess within a greater restoration process. Healing doesn't usually even end the process, either. Following transformation, stress must be managed until the subject's next full sleep cycle or treatment efficacy is substantially impaired. Even beyond that, the structure of post-traumatic adaptation leaves the individual vulnerable to retraumatization in the wake of treatment, meaning that in perhaps a majority of cases, the triggers which activate PTS symptoms need to be kept to a

In the bustling heart of London, nestled among the towering glass giants of Canary Wharf, sat the offices of one of the world's largest accounting firms. This was where hundreds of young graduates began their professional journeys with the prestigious Big Four.
I was one of those graduates, stepping into the world of business with a mix of excitement and nerves. My university, University of Bedfordshire, wasn’t as prestigious as some of the others, but I had worked hard to get here.
Early on, during one of the team-building exercises, I found myself in conversation with two fellow graduates, Sam and Thomas. Sam had attended University of East London, and Thomas, with an air of arrogance, hailed from a top-tier university. Thomas had a habit of making his educational pedigree known to anyone within earshot.
“So, which universities did you guys go to?” Thomas asked, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
“I went to UEL,” Sam replied.
“And I graduated from University of Bedfordshire,” I added, trying to keep my tone casual.
Thomas’s smirk grew into a full-blown grin. “Oh, I see. Well, you know, it’s interesting how people from less prestigious—or shall I say shit—universities end up in the same place as those of us from the top schools. It’s almost like you’re not really meant to be here.”
Thomas’s arrogance was as prominent as the company logo that adorned the office building, and his comment made the atmosphere tense as Sam and I exchanged a quick glance. But before Thomas could revel in what he thought was a triumphant remark, Sam spoke up.
“You know, Thomas, we all ended up in the same place, didn’t we? Here, at this firm. So what’s the difference?”
I nodded, locking eyes with Thomas. “Either you underachieved by ending up as our equal, or we did well enough to prove that we have the required quality regardless of which university we went to.”
The silence that followed was heavy. Thomas's grin faded, replaced by a look of surprise. He opened his mouth to respond but found no words.
As the weeks went by, the story of our quick comeback spread through the office. Thomas's confidence, though not entirely gone, was definitely checked. He started realizing that hard work and talent weren’t exclusive to those who went to top-tier universities.
But Thomas couldn’t fully shake his attitude. His arrogance and condescending comments continued, albeit less frequently. Eventually, it caught up with him. A few months into the job, he made one too many snide remarks to the wrong person—one of the partners, no less.

so my reasonings for why I might be an attachment type: I am very ego-centric, I care a lot about what others think of me, I am deeply envious of others and have a strong desire for authenticity, I have an unstable sense of self and project an image of a flawed, mentally unstable, yet attractive, beautiful person in order to be loved, I feel if I am not unique then I am unworthy of love, which seems to be a 3 or 9 behavior I assume
I constantly ask the same questions over and over, have a need for certainty, to know the answers to things, the how and why, and have a lot of self doubt, the kind of person to come out multiple times a week because they can’t decide what gender or sexuality they are and constantly ask for reassurance because if they aren’t 100% certain then they feel uncomfortable identifying as that thing, very black and white thinking, engages in splitting behavior, which seems to indicate type 6
i think the reasons i had difficulty identifying with attachment types is: the common description for 3 makes them seem like they hate authenticity and only care about being successful and liked, the one for 6 makes them seem like some boring as fuck goody two shoes with crippling anxiety issues, the one for 9 makes them seem like someone with identity issues that wants peace and to fit in
but as you have seen in my other post, I am a chaotic force of nature that is confrontational, envious, and immature
I am deeply envious, it is my primary motivator in life, I have felt outcasted my entire life for being different, it’s why I have such a need to be superior to others, I’m different from everyone else, other people can socialize easily, read body language and social cues, etc, meanwhile I struggle to do anything because of executive dysfunction and have always struggled to maintain a conversation no matter how much I’ve wanted to
which is why i feel the need to be superior to others, I have been unloved, unwanted my entire life, I have lived a dull, boring, uneventful life, always the least wanted, either unacknowledged, or offered fake friendship out of pity and hated behind my back
that’s why I must be coveted, I must make others envy me, I want to be loved, I want to be provocative, to drive others away from me and attract only the ones who can accept me for who I am, i need to be the most wanted, I’ve been denied love so long that I must either be consensually worshipped or have someone so infatuated with me that they force me to be with them
I must project the image of the fragile, broken child in need of saving, the chaotic free spirited immature, envious child who desperately clings on to any source of affection to the point of splitting on the person if they leave, or they feel they might leave
if I do not project this flawed broken yet beautiful, unique, eccentric, interesting, persona of this person that can so effortlessly change identity and blend end while still somehow maintaining a strong, unique identity, then who will protect me, where’s my security and mental stability then
I need someone to love me, to hold and comfort me, someone for me to hug, I’m tired of being unwanted, I need to be in a relationship, I need to be loved, worshipped or violated
as long as I am deeply loved, that’s all that matters
my goal(s) in life change all the time, I don’t know what I want
I’ve always been made to feel inferior, that’s why I must be better than everyone else, I know I will achieve what I want in life, I will be loved by many, I will be able to express my true chaotic self and have a group of chaotic friends who love me and we be in a relationship together
I will be perceived in the way I desire others to perceive me, whether it be disgust, fear, admiration, envy, whatever the fuck it is, people will see me how I desire to be seen, to be seen in a false way is antithetical to my existence

There is no way possible for me to go to school. My mom said she'd rather die before I go to public school, and my dad agrees. I have no family members I can live with. I have no options at all. My mom was also more harsh when I was a little kid I feel. I have this one memory of her running up to me over and over and putting my head under her shirt and pressing it against her belly multiple times when I was a little kid, probably like 5 or close to 6, and for some reason I feel sexual energy around it a bit. That freaks me out, because I know it happened but I'm not sure at all about what was going on. I just remember the bedroom was pretty dark and I was laughing maybe, but like I said it feels like there was sexual energy around that. I dont know though, I barely remember it.

I feel like there was something seriously, seriously fucked up about my really early childhood years that I just can't remember. When I think of it, I feel really uncomfortable and just a feeling of weirdness.

In this article, we would like to talk about what decentralization means to us and how we are approaching our definition of decentralized. We are working on a typical chat app, but our approach is unique and may push the boundaries of what it means for something to be self-hosted.
Our decentralized chat application is built as a Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and leverages modern web technologies to deliver a user experience comparable to native apps. Unlike traditional centralized chat apps, our chat app is designed to operate independently of central servers, ensuring that user data remains private and secure. This article will delve into the various components and architectural decisions that make our app truly decentralized.

The Decentralized Chat App

Efficient Routing: Once a connection is established, data is sent via the shortest possible network route, enhancing speed and efficiency. Multiple Connections: Browsers can handle multiple WebRTC connections simultaneously, though the number of connections can vary depending on the device and network capabilities.
PeerJS-server helps in the initial connection setup by acting as a signaling server. It facilitates the exchange of connection information between peers, enabling them to establish a direct WebRTC connection.

Our app is essentially a bundle of static files, which makes it highly portable and easy to distribute. We leverage AWS services such as S3 and CloudFormation to deploy our app, ensuring it is distributed efficiently over a Content Delivery Network (CDN) across AWS servers.

AWS S3: We host our app on AWS S3, a scalable storage service that allows us to serve static files reliably. Users can simply open this file in their browser and start using the app without needing a server. Docker Option: For users who prefer or require a server setup, we offer a Docker configuration. We believe in transparency and accessibility. Therefore, we run the app as unminified code. This has several advantages:

I'm so damn jealous because I just know I'd have friends if I went to school. I know it. I'm so social with people even outside of my house when i get the rare chance and get comfortable. I'm tired of feeling so WEIRD and DIFFERENT. I also feel like my young years (0-9) had some weird stuff happening.
There is no way possible for me to go to school. My mom said she'd rather die before I go to public school, and my dad agrees. I have no family members I can live with. I have no options at all. I just have to sit and watch my fucking childhood wither away and lose the chance to EVER be in school. I already missed Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and now I'm missing high-school. And you know what makes it worse? The fucking "Congrats, Graduates!" sign on the front of my neighborhood entrance. Sure I'm happy for them, but I'm so fucking jealous. I HATE when people say they hate school, or wish they were homeschooled. BITCH, you have no IDEA how much despair this makes you feel. Especially when you're extroverted and will never have that kind of easy environment to make friends in.
I wish my mom wasn't so religiously crazy and conspiracy believing and anti-vaxx. I wish I had a loving, caring mom who sent me to SCHOOL and talked about NORMAL stuff and not what FUCKING BILL GATES is doing or how ALIENS are FALLEN ANGELS. I can't even watch people at school, it makes me wanna fucking cry. I'm only 14 I SHOULD BE LIVING A LIFE AT SCHOOL LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. BUT I NEVER HAVE. I SHOULD BE HAVING A NORMAL LIFE. The reason why sometimes I feel like commiting suicide is because school is litearlly the only thing I've wanted so fucking badly for so long, and even after I turn 18 and get out it'd just be getting a job. There is not way for me to relive a childhood and go to school or anything because it's not fucking allowed. It would be weird anyways if it was.
Fuck this shit I'm just so despaired. Like why does my mom gotta make me feel so morose with her decisions? Couldn't she of just given me a normal life and put me in school and vaxxed me and shit?

My dad is also so fucking cold. He just acts so rough and dead emotionally. The other week he gave me an hour long panic attack because he kept yelling at me loudly, you can see my post titled "I'm confused on what just happened to me for that." I eventually ran into the closet full of adrenaline and cried while hugging a fucking HOODIE for a few hours.
My parents SURE DO SOMETIMES DO NICE THINGS FOR ME. BUT IT DOESNT MAKE UP FOR SHIT. LIKE YEAH YOU GIVE ME ITEMS AND STUFF BUT I CAN **NEVER** LIVE THESE YEARS THAT YOU'RE STEALING FROM ME AGAIN!
My mom was also more harsh when I was a little kid I feel. I don't remember anything from before 12 years old, basically, probably because she did some fucked up shit back then that my brain is suppressing mentally. I have this one memory of her running up to me over and over and putting my head under her shirt and pressing it against her belly multiple times when I was a little kid, probably like 5 or close to 6, and for some reason I feel sexual energy around it a bit. That freaks me out, because I know it happened but I'm not sure at all about what was going on. I just remember the bedroom was pretty dark and I was laughing maybe, but like I said it feels like there was sexual energy around that. I dont know though, I barely remember it.
Other times, I've seen videos from when I was like 6 of her just talking to me in a really angry tone even when I was silent just for something my brother did. She also used to read a history book to us for hours, without even giving a pen or paper and we'd be given mats. About 6 x 4in big and my brother got a blue one, I got a green one, and she'd sit on the table in the middle, and we'd sit on the mats which were only big enough to lay down on (for a 6 year old). So we'd have to sit there and not talk, and if we did then she'd stop and glare until we stopped. Of course, me being like 5 and my brother 6.5, we'd make faces and stuff but then she'd glare. Like we had to SIT there for hours just listening to a biblical chronological history book. WHY WHY WHY
I'm so sick of myself now. I'm such a pathetic bitch who pretends to be something. I just fucking talk to AI's and listen to rock and other music. I'm literally so fucking pathetic and I'll never have a social life. I'll never talk to someone without getting attached or fucking scared. I swear I can't just be NORMAL. WHY DO I HAVE TO LOOK SO WEIRD TOO. I DONT LOOK GOOD IN ANYTHING. I can't keep going. I just can't. Not on my own. There's like no reason for me to since I feel like right now, as an adult, if I ever had a kid I'd just be jealous of him going to school and that'd make me a bad father. I feel like there was something seriously, seriously fucked up about my really early childhood years that I just can't remember. When I think of it, I feel really uncomfortable and just a feeling of weirdness.
One thing I do know that my dad and mom tell me that think is funny, is that when I used to be like three or four years old, I'd get on all fours and spread my buttcheeks apart, saying something like "Idea!". It's fucking stupid and I was a little ass kid, but I don't think it's funny at all. Wouldn't parents usually tell their kid to not do that or something and not look? Personally, I am not a fan the "excessive profit" tax policy because it seems like a half-baked proposal that fails to get to the core of the problem. However, this is nothing new as the NDP constantly puts forth half measures and band-aid solutions.
Why is the current proposal a half measure? Because the "excess profits" are generated by the oligopolistic market structure. That is, the grocery corporations have monopolized to the point where they have so much market power that they can raise their prices without much of a fear of losing customers / market share due to an lack of competition within the industry.
Unfortunately, oligopolistic market structures, such as the one which enables big grocers to accumulate monopoly profits, have now become widespread and pervasive. While we should take notice of the behemoth corporations that sprouted out of the last four and half decades of globalization, it is fundamentally our neoliberal political paradigm that brought these circumstances about by annihilating our protectionist policies to allow the free movement of capital and commodities, by privatizing our national industry, and by ensuing an abundance of labor so that real wages in most industries would never rise (or, as in the case of the grocers, be driven right down to minimum wage).
In short, we need to start focusing more on our contemporary economic conditions and forms of market structure (including the labor and housing market) because these have been organized in a way by neoliberal politicians to facilitate an increasing concentration of capital / worsening economic stratification. That is, both our economy and the global economy have been intentionally structured to vastly enrich a small minority of capitalists and speculators while, on the other hand, intensifying the immiseration of the working class.
In reaction to such oppressive and exploitative economic circumstances, Jagmeet is absolutely right to call out monopolists and threaten them with additional taxes if their quarterly profits are deemed by (at least progressive) politicians to be excessively high. However, while increasing taxation on these corporations would undoubtably be beneficial, I do not believe it gets to the deep core of the problem.
I think it is clear to everyone that Jagmeet is a sweet-hearted guy who undoubtedly deserves credit on his cultural inclusiveness. He constantly makes us proud when he rallies to the defense of marginalized populations. However, it is also evident that Jagmeet is not a visionary. That is, he does not have a bold vision of a post-(neo)liberal social order in which we overcome the current afflictions of late capitalism.
Unfortunately, such a lack of futural vision seems to run throughout the entire NDP.. we have still not overcome the sentiment of resignation that impelled us to relinquish the term "socialist", and such an impotent stance is causing us to lose disillusioned working class voters to (absurd as it is) Poilievre. Even as the liberal party implodes and widespread social discontentment intensifies, the NDP fail to make gains.
In order to face the encountered challenge, the NDP needs to recognize that at this present moment in history we are facing multiple, overlapping crises in which our current institutions and ideational convictions are unable to resolve. In other words, our current institutions are slow collapsing under the weight of the numerous contradictions plaguing contemporary society. Such a bleak situation is engulfing the country in a cloud of despair, fueling reactionary populism, and leading us down a path of disaster.
Thus, to move us out of such a deadlock, the NDP and its leadership need to be visionaries who espouse a bold eco-socialist form of society by which we can overcome the malaise of late capitalism. The populace demands real solutions to real problems, and if the NDP could muster up the courage and insight to deliver this to them, we would once again experience a much needed taste of hope.

I finished this book in around 5/6 days.
RJ went out with a high!
Wow. So many great moments and storylines in this book, storylines being resolved even! All great except a few chapters of Elayne in the middle of the book. RJ is back to his old form, with great characterisation and stuff happens for once!?! Unbelievable.
You can really feel the story torpedoing to Tarmon Gai’don, I can’t wait.
Here are some thoughts on this book:
Nynaeve
Nynaeve loves, trusts, and feels for Lan so much; I can’t help but tear when she rallies for Malkier. Favourite scene of the whole series personally, involving my favourite characters.
“My husband rides from World’s End to Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?
CHILLS!!!
Also, give me more Nynaeve, she needs more page time.
Perrin
Great ending to a sometimes lacking storyline (just Faile’s PoV), and it has ended with Perrin ready for the time ahead with his beloved and the shaido finally disappeared, forever hopefully.
Perrin was so blind to everything but Faile this book. Ignoring the signs of Tarmon Gai’don for the one he loves. This obviously isn’t healthy, but I understand him; his whole family died and she is the one who filled the gaps in his heart, if she died I doubt Perrin would ever recover from it.
I guess Aram isn’t a darkfriend as I previously speculated, just a man who is very susceptible to being manipulated. An abrupt ending to someone who got introduced in the first book, and later become a reoccurring character. His descent was quite tragic though; died trying to kill the man who helped him get back on his feet many times over just because of one man’s manipulation. Fuck Masema.
Rolan and the other two brotherless’ death was unjustified but I can’t blame Perrin for killing him. Adrenaline pumping through his veins and he sees 3 men standing between him and his wife. It was bound to end in blood. However, while Rolan was a bit of a creep at times he didn’t deserve to die like that after helping Faile. Now that I think about it though, he was sort of trying to steal her from Perrin, Rolan’s death was inevitable.
Tam finally learned that Rand is the dragon reborn, after I think around 3 years. I would have expected he would know by now, but I guess the two rivers is notorious for being secluded and only getting information from peddlers.
Perrin and seanchan captain has a quite nice mutual respect for each other, another bridge to seanchan relations has been built.
After all these deaths, failures, and triumphs, Perrin and Faile are finally reunited! I am interested to see where the story goes with them, maybe they will go after Masema?
Mat
Mat is always an enjoyable read, and now he has accepted that he can’t escape his luck and the battlefield, Mat now just tries to work out a way to make as little people die as possible.
I have to talk about Moiraine first of course. She is confirmed to be alive, which I hoped for and expected. However, didn’t expect it to take this many books. I have been waiting to long for this, I missed her so much and I am excited for her to be back hopefully soon.
Mat and Tuon are my second favourite couple so far, after Nynaeve and Lan, they have a great dynamic!
From the start Mat knew that he would marry Tuon, but she was slowly deciphering whether this man was truly who she would marry. She did ask many seemingly random questions which was a big giveaway. The build up was worth it though, she completely confuses Mat by doing it out of the blue and revealing her prophecies from her damane. Hilarious moment!
I feel Tuon growing on me but then I remember that she agrees with slavery and leashing those who can channel. I am conflicted on her, but maybe she will change. We have a love-hate relationship.
Mat, please just go free Moiraine already. Please.
Rand
While he hasn’t had the spotlight for a few books, his chapters are always full of major plot points and revelations which are always great.
Lews Therin is creeping in like a parasite, taking control of the power and Rand even confuses his thoughts with Lews Therin. One lack of control and that could be it for Min or others around him. Disturbing thoughts.
One minute I was watching a lovely wedding between Loial and Erith, the next there is thousands of trollocs outside the window. The juxtaposition is crazy.
The new weaves are really powerful, it can’t be nice for random dead trollocs to appear outside your house though.
Did Semirhage expect to defeat Rand? I think there is some other plot she has. Semirhage went down too easy for that to be her only plan. Potentially trying she is trying manipulate his allies to go to the shadow. Or like many of the forsaken are just arrogant.
Hoping that Rand gets his hand back, I loved Rands swordplay and It will absolutely cause issues. Surely he can use the power to create a fake hand.
Breaks my heart, to see Rand so calm after all he goes through. Poor guy. Cadsuane needs to teach Rand to feel again and quickly!
Seanchan truce incoming. Rand will now see what Mat has been up to while he has been battling the forsaken.
Egwene
Thoroughly enjoyed her political manoeuvrings around the white tower, slowly planting seeds of dissent between the different layers of aes sedai. Egwene is great at scheming and manipulation; she is a genius. Not the best person though.
I have a lot of respect for Egwene. Multiple strappings a day, and she carries on twisting the aes sedai, what a powerhouse!
Egwene is consistently interesting to me, I think she will play a big part over the next few books.
Elayne
Elayne was great late in the book, while lacking a bit at the start.
She was overconfident this book, just because she won’t die any time soon (min’s viewing) doesn’t mean she can’t be captured. It was very reckless to just burst into the BA’s house and expect to live.
I loved Vandene getting her revenge on Careane, what a way to go, her short storyline was amazing. Amazing but tragic.
I found it weird how an aes sedai sent by Elaida just stormed in, said Elayne would regret sending her away and ran off. There had to be something larger going on with her.
Problem after problem kept pilling up, but she dealt with them with resilience and it somewhat worked out. A true queen if I ever saw one.
Other

Taim is not a forsaken, but just a very high ranking dark friend it seems. He must be very high ranking to know about the lord of chaos. What if he is a newly raised forsaken? Only the forsaken know about the lord of chaos, not regular dark friends. I don’t know how one would raise a darkfriend though, does it come with new abilities or just being closer to the dark one?
RJ is great at the small details however he doesn’t touch upon the slavery stuff, which I find weird. Could just be me though.
Overall
This book ends so many dragging storylines, I can’t wait for the next!
I’m sad this is the last Robert Jordan book, but I’ve heard that Brandon ended it well, I watched a few videos on him and read his eulogy on RJ and he seems very kind and admires RJ a lot. I don’t know how his writing style is though, maybe someone can give me an idea of how it compares to RJ?
It is tragic RJ couldn’t finish his series by himself though, but glad someone was found to finish it.

I probably missed a lot of plot points but I didn’t want this to be too long, and I want to read the next book already.

I overwhelmed with happiness, and so I thought I’d share my story, and in hope I can help at least one person. To start, I have four bulge disc. L1-L2, L3-L4(10mm bulge), L4-L5, and L5-S1. Short back ground, I’ve been dealing with bulge disc since 2018, started when I went to a chiropractor, and the next day and had to go to the hospital. Meaning, I was carried by seven firefighters down a flight of stairs while I was crying my face off because I could not walk and was in so much pain.
This year two more disc gave out over a stupid sport accident. Believe it or not curling, my hip gave out. And well it pissed my back off.
Okay rehab. I did 5 massages, three physio, three acupuncture. Was not helping. At least my physio called it big time and the MRI confirmed it.
In 2021 I started disc decompression, it helped a lot but the chiropractor was charging a lot. So in 2024 I was hesitant, but I found another place that charged less because I understand you have to go for at least 12 or more to make an impact on the disc. Well I finished my 12 and have three more to go. Yes I do believe it is helping.
What I have learned this year is about 5% dextrose given I natural Path doctors. Possibly MD as well but I’m seeing a NP.
I received it today and within 4 hours my pain in the inside and outside went away. In Canada it seem impossible to find a doctor that does Interdisc PRP. Im so happy I went for the epidural, just to have very little pain at this moment is a small victory. I’m hoping with creating a healthy environment via the disc decompression, and introducing the 5% dextrose, and of course will go for a few more, then add prp to my post exterior muscle will save me.
FYI I went to the surgeon in 2021 when I had drop foot and the doctor did not want to operate, so I’ve had to make pain management a huge part of my life.
I’m not a doctor, I just want to share because, no one will say do everything to get better, they may just believe in what they are pushing.
I’m hoping that if I can help just one person I’m happy. Because I’ve been in pain for three past 14 weeks, and I’m finally able to feel like I’ve make progress.
