Rant about green flag kt.

Also Noone has proposed to one another yet We just in dating phase, not in relationship 🤷🏼‍♂️

So as usual hami tya bhaktapur bata wednesday farkyem ghar. Then we chatted for a while and she continuously requested me to rant about her and so whats I did. But she was expecting a roast lol Haha. Thursday, i was busy with college assignments so we didnt talk that much haiii but she called me on my mobile and we talked for a lil bit and we came up with a plan to go to pulchowki this saturday. Friday mero international student eligibility scholarship ko lagi naxal ma interview thiyo so tya gako they. Thikai vayo interview ani ma ghar ayera sute.

2024.05.06 11:56 1600_SAT How generous really is UTA financially? for international students?

I have 4.0 GPA, 1500+ SAT, Great leadership and ECs including national olympiads and research but I messed up my college application for CO2028. Probably my essays but I had 0 acceptances. This was really depressing tbh. But, I've planned to apply for CO2029.
The problem is affordability. Anything below 10k COA would be really great but I also need some guaranteed admission. I'm afraid I'll be rejected again everywhere.
So, could I possibly secure 10k COA at UTA? what about honors college? any such scholarships or opportunities?
I'm planning Mechanical Engineering or EE.

2024.05.06 07:08 BushyWushy10 I worry for my sister

I’m an incoming freshman for UTD and I received some scholarship money. My sister is a sophomore at UTA and she got no scholarships or grants. She’s majoring in biology, planning to pre med. I saw on her schedule that she’s taking pre calculus (as a sophomore at college?) I took that when I was a sophomore in high school. I also saw some other classes she has that should’ve been accounted for from Ap exams that could’ve been passed which I’m assuming she didn’t, because I remember her taking those classes in high school. Is what I said a bad thing for her? Is she gonna be able to graduate with a bachelors in four years? Will she get into medical school? She’s always talking to our Asian parents that she’ll become a doctor and make lots of money, and I’m worried she’s not taking college seriously. I know that she skips classes regularly to hang out with her boyfriend and she currently failing some of her classes.

UTA or Texas State for Engineering

Hi there
I got accepted for an international transfer to UTA and TXST for their Engineering program and I am torn apart between them. I was offered an OOS tuition waiver + scholarships in both schools, so total costs would be very similar, around $8k.
I've already heard about how better the campus in San Marcos is, but is there anything else I should know? How do their reputations compare and how different are their Engineering programs (when it comes to quality, for example)? Which one has a better alumni network and better job connections?
I read somewhere that TXST's Engineering program is quite new, any opinions about it?
Anyways, I'd love to know this sub's opinion on this comparison

2024.05.01 03:09 BushyWushy10 What should I choose

Total aid/scholarships for UTA: 9.6k Total aid/scholarships for UTD: 16.7k
UTA is a 28 minutes drive
UTD is a 44 minute drive
I’m majoring in MechE, and I plan to commute.

2024.04.29 05:19 FaDe_Flamez In a bit of a unique pickle

Hello, so I'm a junior in high school right now, and I just found out about the First Early Graduation Program. So I was thinking I could graduate at the end of May along with the class of 2024 and get my first year paid for, and also get the Valedictorian scholarship since I'd be 1st in the class. Thus giving me 2 years paid for. However my primary college of choice UT Austin CS doesn't accept spring applicants and I haven't applied to any colleges since I assumed I'd just graduate in 2025. One of my friends said I could apply to college of natural sciences then transfer to CS but from what I'm reading on the internet that is a horrible idea. What should I do? I'm a first generation college goer and have little idea on how anything works.
Edit: I also found out that maybe going to ACC for a year and then transferring to UTA CS might be a good option? Also would CAP and ATP still apply to me?

2024.04.29 04:49 Traditional-Room-738 UT Austin no aid vs UT Dallas full ride?

I've been accepted into McCombs with MIS, similar at UTD. The scholarship at UTD is honors, full ride, paid housing, extra help with study abroad etc. UTA is just $6k pell grant, no honors. I'm not auto admit to UTA, so I know it's a big deal to get offered a spot. Is the UTA name, experience, etc worth the cost difference? I also was accepted to SMU and going there would only cost about $3k per year. No honors.
UTD feels like settling, but with honors and no debt it might be ok?
Any words of wisdom?
Edit: I really appreciate the very kind advice. The first hand experience from previous/ current students or people with actual experience on those campuses is very helpful. The responses are about exactly the way I feel, a mix of emotions. Y'all have given great reasons and examples for each school. It's so hard to choose. I appreciate your thoughts and answers.

2024.04.27 06:17 Fickle-Adeptness-189 Scholarship money

According to the UTA website, the criteria for the Presidential Honors Scholarship (13,000 per year) are:
-Top 5% high school rank
-4.0 high school cumulative GPA (on an unweighted 4.0 scale as calculated by UTA's Admissions Office)
-A minimum 1500 SAT or 34 ACT
-Holistic review of a student's academic profile and difficulty of high school courses completed
My question is, are these guidelines strict, or rather just rough guidelines? I have a 1510 SAT, but my unweighted GPA is a 3.95, not a 4.0. Also, my school doesn’t do class ranks so there is no way I could report being in the top 5% or not. Would I still be able to get the scholarship, despite these things?

2024.04.26 23:08 Keykth I hate UTA scholarship department.

How am I getting less scholarship than people who have at most 2 extracurriculars, the same ranking percentage as me, and same test scores as me. UTA doesn’t even take in extracurricular activities when they determine the academic merit scholarships so anyone out there planning on going to UTA, don’t do any extracurriculars and focus on just your GPA and test scores.

2024.04.24 16:33 saarfsi Is $140k worth it for University of Toronto? (international student)

UPDATE: I looked into the fees and realised the fees increase each year RIP. I don't think I can afford 160k...
Hello, I'm an international student from South Asia who has been accepted into U of T with almost 55k CAD scholarship for first year and 45k CAD for the remaining years. Now, the COA for my 5 year double degree with Co-op would probably cost around 140k CAD, of which my parents can barely afford 85k and I can amount to around 30k from Co-op (might have to go to debt).
I also got into a few US colleges like UTA, Sweet Briar, Drexel with a COA around/less than 20k (with Drexel being around 40k but I'm trying to appeal for more aid). I have also been waitlisted from Franklin&Marshall and Denison, and rejected from 20 LACs (wild, I know). I realise none of these colleges are "glamorous" when compared to U of T but I'm really trying to determine which will have the greatest ROI in terms of career opportunities, and also PR in Canada. Could anyone please let me know how job opportunities are for a U of T intl. undergraduate student right out of university?
My major is Economics for American colleges and BBA (Management & Finance) and BSc Statistics (Quantatitive Finance) for U of T. I am really worried as May 1 looms upon all of us and I'll have to commit.

2024.04.23 06:05 kutoclub Financial Aid Questions

I'm about to be a first year full-time student and I've already submitted all the necessary documents, and so I'm just curious about how all this financial stuff works. I really don't want to take loans but my financial aid package is not enough to help cover my estimated total cost of attendance.
1) I was offered 2 grants and a mav scholarship, and I'm willing to do the work study aid but I'm not sure how it works.
2) I'm also trying to apply for VA benefits but I'm not sure long it will take or how it works in UTA so I'm not depending on it entirely right now until further notice.
If anyone has background knowledge with how they covered their full COA, pros/cons with taking loans, work study aid, or the blaze forward program, please let me know!

Did I screw up by going to UTA rather than UNT for finance and accounting? I keep hearing great things about the accounting programs at unt and not so great things about the finance department at uta. I already accepted my admission as well as scholarships. My main goal is get my CPA license, work for several years, and hopefully get in to banking. If not, at least go back to school after I got some experience and get my mba and then go to banking.

2024.04.11 23:41 ladymysticalwmn No clue what to do anymore

Most uni choices I went for did give me scholarships but none brought down CoA to what I wanted. (around 20k)
Should I just go for USM at this point since it’s giving automatic scholarships? It’s something I dread because it’s not really a highly ranked uni and many have recommended me to just stay away from it so I fear it’ll just be a waste of time.
Are there any other options that’ll still give me good amount of scholarships? Is it too late for UTA and so on?

2024.04.11 08:06 RepresentativeDrop90 Unsure about applying abroad next time

I had attempted to apply for a fair amount of universities but I got rejected from all but one(NEU), I had applied for unis like UCD,UCI,UMD, UIUC, UTA,UCSD, UW.
Is it literally just the fact that my profile is weak or is there an underlying factor.
I have a 9.24 GPA Tier 2 college,318 GRE,114 TOEFL ,international student, with around a 12 months of internship experience at various startups and companies. I have obtained a scholarship for every one of my academic years. I have been a club head for the ACM chapter at my college.
The only thing which I am a bit upset not being able to add to all my university applications was the fact that I have obtained a 6 month internship at a samsung r&d institute as well as an academic paper being accepted(due to time constraints couldn't include it in the sop for all the universities.
I feel like I mainly failed at my SOP in order to make my profile a bit better. I feel like I should defer the NEU admission and attempt again next year.

2024.04.08 22:36 Go_North_Young_Man Yet another school poll

Alright, so I've got two options right now, both appealing but in different ways. I'm far too close to the decision at this point, I need some people on the internet to make fun of me so I can get some perspective. Right now my goals are Big Law litigation for 3-5 years so I can get the financial security to do something that pays less but accords better with my interests and preferred WL balance. Clerking would be a very good experience that would likely help me lateral in the future. I have no strong preferences for a specific location.
UTA ($$$.5): I've lived in Texas for almost a decade, I'm a UT alum, I really enjoyed Austin whenever we weren't in quarantine. Texas has a laid-back reputation that seemed borne out by the great time I had at their ASW; I haven't met a prof or admin that I couldn't see becoming a great mentor or resource later on. Their regional dominance is tempting when it comes to clerkships and networking, but as a lefty I wouldn't really want to work for most of the 5th Circuit, which seriously limits my options if I end up excelling. Biglaw numbers are not bad, and I'm not sure how much they are depressed by PI focused students; it definitely felt like good outcomes were acheivable. With scholarships I'd be paying half the cost of Cornell or less, which will make building a nest egg on the other side much easier, especially if I can get Cravath scale without state income tax.
Cornell ($$$): Generally the perks I see are T14 perks. Top tier numbers for preferred career outcomes, moreso once I account for the year or so clerkship time lag common among New York schools. I don't mind the cold or taking vitamin D (I'm a New Englander originally), and Ithaca seems like a nice town. While I don't exactly get the hype around New York biglaw over secondary markets, Cornell does have a portability edge too that may come in handy in the future. I'm less excited about it currently, mostly because of the increased debt and word of mouth about a generally colder culture, but I haven't been to the ASD yet so I might come away just as impressed.
Do you think Cornell's improved outcomes are worth 80-100k more?

2024.04.06 21:17 ShiningAway For the young actors, and the beginner questions.

This is for the less experienced ones, specifically those who haven't done any professional work before, and are considering a BFA, MFA, summer program, or some sort of acting class out there.
1. Do I need actor training? Is actor training important?
Yes, I'll confirm it for you, actor training IS important. I prefer not to go into the talent VS training debate, that is a topic for another day. But even the most naturally gifted, cognitively adept, imaginative, emotionally expressive, vulnerable and confident actor needs to get their training in some way. I get my actor training through a part-time conservatory, but there are many ways to learn acting.
2. Do I need to go to a 3/4-year full time actor training degree program?
No you do not. I have peers in the industry did not attend a full-time course, and are doing well for themselves anyway. However, in the absence of a full time course, you absolutely need a good acting regimen when you're starting out, be it through a coach, evening classes, summer school, part-time training or so on. Of course, the point of those classes is to teach you how to develop your own training schedule so that you learn the right techniques to practice independently.
As a Theatre Studies student in a very traditional liberal arts university, I have found that being exposed to a variety of different training methods help a lot because we eventually realize that no one has a monopoly on what actor training can be. My programme can be described as experimental and research-intensive, but it also allowed me to develop special skills that I include in my professional practice. However, as I also have actor training in a conservatory programme as well as many workshops and intensives, I am able to connect the dots and see how my education as a whole has helped me become a better actor.
3. Actor training is so expensive, do I need to go into debt for it?
No, please don't. No matter where you come from in the world or what industry you want to enter, I am very much against incurring excessive expenses. I'm not saying don't do it, but weigh your choices carefully and live within your means. Apply for all the scholarships, grants and awards you can find. Find a side hustle or day job that works for you - mine is being a Chinese-English translator and a freelance writer, among other ventures. I am all for pursuing your dreams and being smart about it. If you want to be an actor, you have to make sure you have the resources and the ability to stay in it for the long haul.
4. What should I ask a school before applying?
If you get accepted anywhere, run checks on the cost of attendance divided by the number of contact hours, ask questions about the curriculum and student experience, talk to the faculty about which methods and techniques they teach (and run far away if they can't answer this question!), read up on your professors' biographies and resumes. Be critical and selective. You deserve to have the most personalized and rigorous acting education to prepare you for such a tough industry.
5. What skills do I need to work on to succeed as an actor? How do I know if my school provides that training?
Any drama school worth their salt will have acting classes that teach one to two main methods (taught to advanced proficiency), and provide you with tools from other methods that you can tap on to improve your artistry. Popular methods include Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Lee Strasberg, Chekhov and so on. The method should not be confusing. It should not make you feel like you have to sacrifice your physical or emotional health for it.
You should ideally have a voice and speech class where you learn how to project your voice, achieve resonance, breathing and articulation, a class where you learn accent work, as well as a singing class. For singing classes, it's good to have a mix of masterclasses and private lessons, and definitely go into detail about the technique especially if you are pursuing musical theatre. You should be taught some kind of movement such as Laban or Viewpoints, and while some schools neglect this, I think every acting student should also try a martial art or dance form. I personally do wushu (Chinese martial arts) and ballet outside of school, and it has dramatically improved my ability to hold a moment on stage, and also given me more things to talk about in the audition room.
6. Any tldr tips?
Don't commit to anything you're not ready to pay for. Think about your artistic vision and who you are as an actor. Go for classes, but keep an eye on your wallet. Practice, practice, practice. Network. Go for events and talk to people. Collaborate with folks to get projects up, especially if you have the luxury of time as a younger person still in school. Research. Be patient. Always be nice to yourself and to other people.
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot. BUT make sure your school has performance and showcase opportunities! It's best if the location is in a major city like New York or London, but really, at minimum, there should be a chance to meet and market yourself to agents and industry professionals.
