[Routine Help] Post Shave Dark Spot Help
Hello! I was wondering if any one with darker skin has figured out a way to deal with post shave hyperpigmentation. I was stupid and didn’t shave properly and it ended up becoming in grown and inflamed and left this dark spot.
Right now I’m using PFB vanish to prevent anymore ingrowns and I’m using faded topicals, the ordinary (glycolic acid, alpha arbutin, hylauronic acid) and vitamin c moisturizer.
Do I just need to be patient or is there a quicker solution? It’s really bothering me 😭 Thank you 👍🏾

2024.05.27 22:57 Coltaine7 Nationwide is NOT on your side - my experience - STAY AWAY

I have had Nationwide for about 5-6 years, and I wanted to share my experience with you so you can make an informed decision on if you should proceed with their Pet Insurance. Originally, I got them because my employer offered a discount and I decided to go with them without any research. I am sure there are other pet insurance companies that do the same things.

Pros:
-Overall Nationwide has paid most my claims for my cat who has kidney disease and diabetes without much issue although there have been some.
-For the first couple of years my renewal premium did go up but it was reasonable.

Cons:
-The website UI is pretty bad. Its hard to find your policy details.. you have to go though all your old messages to find it in your renewal letter. You can’t seem claim totals until its paid and you have to click each claim rather than seeing it on the claim menu. You can’t see pending claim totals while they are being reviewed. You can’t see your attached information to identify which claim is which. If claims are denied you get just a two word header as to why with no explanation. There is no info on how much you have left before you reach your annul limit. I feel like they do these things intentionally.
-Claims processing can take up to a month and you pay out of pocket and wait.
-Often the website errors out and you have to try again.
-Every time I have had to buy diabetes supplies from Amazon (AlphaTrak) Vet does not sell this they deny it saying I do not have a prescription. I have to send in the EMR that show she needs an Alpha Track and then they accept. This happens EVERY TIME, they don’t make a note of it for the future.
-I have had claims denied bc they say I don’t have a script for it (other situation then above), when the receipt screenshot is from my vet’s online pharmacy and I literally could not order it without a script.

-Here is where it gets really bad… Last year my policy renewal went up about $200 a month! They priced gauged me out of the product I had for many years that included preventive care. I talked to my vet and if I got every single preventive care option available, I would not have broke even with the increased costs. I called and was told they no longer offered this product so I would have to switch or pay the huge monthly increase. I had to settle with a similar plan for accidents without the preventive care at all. They told me they no longer offered preventive care. I asked if this was the best product I could get or if there was something with better coverage / higher max and was told no.

-Now if you look as a new client requesting a quote just 7 months later they offer products with two levels of preventive care, a higher annual max of $10k (mine is $7,500) and unlimited max and to get the highest level of preventive care and the unlimited max for a senior cat they are quoting like $20… I pay $65 a month for a lower quality plan.

And now here I am after getting price gouged out of my old plan and being told I could not get a better plan, despite better plans existing less then a year later and I have reached my max after a 3 day crisis with my cat going though kidney failure….. and I have 4 months before the renewal where I am all alone and paying out of pocket and I can’t afford any of it. After probably 6 years with them never maxing out the insurance now I need them the most and they are not here for me. They have spent to much on me to be profitable so its like… “Hey see ya in 4 months hope your baby survives bye.”

My biggest regret with my cat was trusting Nation Wide with her care instead of finding a better provider with no max limits. A higher monthly payment was not an issue for me and I would have renewed this last year with an unlimited plan if offered. Once her kidney disease was diagnosed I was stuck with them due it being a pre-existing condition.

From my experience Nationwide is NOT on your side, they are only on the side of profit. I will never purchase a Nationwide product again or trust Nationwide to protect anything I love.

If you are considering this I suggest you stay far away from this company.

2024.05.27 20:26 keerthiamyg Diabetes Food Pyramid

Introduction
In order to supply energy for regular bodily processes, glucose is necessary. Blood glucose levels rise in diabetics as a result of a relative or total insulin shortage. One hormone is insulin. A hormone is a substance that our bodies' glands secrete. The pancreas is the name for this gland, which is located in the abdomen. Insulin functions as a gatekeeper, permitting glucose to enter the cell. If the body produces too much insulin or if insulin's function is compromised, too much glucose builds up and damages the cells in different organs. Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body cannot utilize glucose to meet its energy needs. Insulin is necessary for the entry of glucose into cells, as we have already mentioned. For this reason, when cells cannot use glucose to the fullest extent, the body attempts to generate extra glucose through a process known as glycogenesis. Here's how blood sugar levels continue to rise in the absence of food. Diabetes occurs mostly in two forms. The initial kind, or insulin-dependent diabetes. Only insulin, the primary medication, is effective in treating it. Younger patient age groups frequently experience this. Type II diabetes is the second kind, which is not insulin-dependent. In India, this is a growing trend. People older than 40 are typically affected by this. Exercise, nutrition, and oral medicines can all be used to manage this group.
If uncontrolled diabetes is not caught early enough, it can have harmful effects on all areas of the body. The illness needs to be properly treated even if a person does not now experience its effects. Neglect and complacency are never safe. Keep in mind that maintaining good control over the disease is essential to living a normal life. One of the main risk factors for developing complications from diabetes later in life is poorly managed diabetes. The chart below illustrates a few of these concerns for complications. This isn't meant to frighten you; rather, it's only meant to highlight how crucial it is to manage diabetes.
Diabetes food pyramid
Two of the most crucial things you can do to improve your health are to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise. You can accomplish this by using the Food pyramid guide, the Physical Activity Guidelines, and the Healthy Eating Guidelines. Eating a healthy diet entails consuming the right proportions of the vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and carbs that your body needs to stay healthy. On each shelf of the Food Pyramid, foods that are similar in terms of nutrients are placed together. This provides you with a variety of food options from which to select a nutritious diet. Getting the correct balance of nutrient-dense foods within your calorie range can be achieved by using the Food Pyramid as a guide.
Research indicates that we consume an excessive amount of calories from foods and beverages on the Top Shelf of the Food Pyramid that are high in fat, sugar, and salt. They barely contain any of the vital vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Restricting them is necessary for a healthy diet. You need different nutrients every day depending on where you are in life. These are determined by your age, gender, level of activity, and gender.
Understanding food pyramid
•Restrict your intake of items from the Food Pyramid's top shelf. Considering that these are heavy in fat, sugar, and salt, this is the most crucial Healthy Eating Guideline.
•Use fresh ingredients when preparing and cooking your meals. Because they are often heavy in fat and salt, ready meals and takeout should not be consumed frequently.
•Consistently read the nutrition label; look for excessive amounts of sugar, fat, and salt.
•Consume at least five different coloured fruits and veggies each day. Make regular choices of leafy green vegetables. Smoothies can be included in your daily servings of fruits and vegetables, but try to limit your intake to those that contain fruit or vegetables. Look for fat and sugar on the label.
•The greatest foods to feed your body include whole grain bread, potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, and high-fiber cereals, especially porridge. These foods also satiate hunger. They offer a gradual release of energy. Recognize that different varieties may have different amounts of calories.
•Instead of frying food, use healthy cooking techniques including steaming, grilling, baking, roasting, and stir-frying. Limit your consumption of fried items like chips.
•Increase your fish intake; it's high in protein and contains essential vitamins and minerals. Make an effort to consume oily fish, such as salmon, sardines, and mackerel, at least once a week. They contain a lot of omega-3 lipids. Reduced-fat cheese, low-fat/no-sugar yogurts, and yogurt drinks are the better options.
•While preparing or serving meals, use as little or no salt as feasible. Instead, experiment with different flavorings including lemon juice, herbs, spices, pepper, and garlic. Eat as much fresh food as you can. Check the food labels for the amount of salt.
•An adult needs eight to ten glasses or cups of liquid every day. 200 ml is roughly one cup. If you exercise, you will require more. Teens and children should drink often throughout the day. The ideal fluid is water.
•Make time to sit down at a table and eat three meals a day. Eat mindfully and give your food a good chew. You may overeat if you eat while watching TV or using a computer since it can cause you to become distracted by how much food you are consuming. Alcohol contains calories, so if you drink, do it responsibly within advised limits and ideally with meals.
•Always make time for breakfast, as those who eat it are more likely to maintain a healthy weight.
•You shouldn't need to take food supplements if you consume a healthy, balanced diet unless your doctor tells you to. Nonetheless, it is recommended that all sexually active women of reproductive age take 400µg of folic acid daily, ideally as a supplement. Vitamin D deficiency in the diet can be addressed by discussing supplementation with your physician or pharmacist.
•Eating a healthy diet both before and throughout pregnancy lowers the chance that your unborn child may develop lifestyle disorders like obesity and heart disease. Breastfeeding is highly advised since breast milk provides additional protection.
•Take into account how much food, excluding fruits and vegetables, you eat from each shelf of the Food Pyramid if you are overweight.
Conclusion
A diabetic diet's ingredients differ from person to person. A balanced diet is an excellent way to treat diabetes. Making a nutritious diet is made easier with the guidance of the diabetes food pyramid. Diabetes can be beaten with a balanced diet, appropriate medication, and a healthy lifestyle.

2024.05.27 18:22 LiandrewBowson I cured myself of Trigger Finger! This is my story.

For the past few years, I have suffered with reoccurring trigger finger in both middle fingers.
When it first happened, I made several visits to an Osteopath who was helping me with some back problems at the time. He did some LED light therapy and massage, which helped. However, after a few months, the problem returned.
Next, I decided to visit a First Contact Physio therapist through my GP surgery. As I sat and explained my issues to her, the physio interrupted me and said - "don't worry about your hands. The more you use them, the nicer they'll feel". Surprisingly, her words did nothing to alleviate my symptoms.
Though I was eating well and exercising regularly, I decided to eat even better and move even more. I hoped that if my hands were strong and limber enough, I'd be able to rid myself of the trigger finger. However, after 8 months of consistent effort, I was still symptomatic. In fact, at this point, I had been suffering with trigger finger for a few months, which was the longest flare up I'd ever had. About a year ago, I had decided to track my symptoms in a spreadsheet. Up until then, the longest documented flare up I had ever had only lasted a week. As you can imagine, things were now getting desperate. I had to figure this out quick, if I was to get back to doing the things I loved.
At the beginning of this year, I decided to pay to see a Physiotherapist privately. During my first session, and without even looking at my hands, the physio sent me away for blood tests because he was certain I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. When I told him that I had never had nodules, swelling, or any family history of it, he said - "there's always a first for everything". I was devastated. On the bus ride home, I sobbed like a baby. I kept imagining how in the future, I'd never get to play guitar or Rocket League again.
At this point in time, I had sort of become friends with the aforementioned Osteopath. For some reason, I messaged him to tell him what the physio had said. His reply was - "Rheumatoid Arthritis?! The guy's been sniffing glue!". I cannot tell you how relieved I was to hear him say this. He'd worked on my hands many times and I trusted him. I decide to forgo the blood tests and proceed under the assumption I did not have RA.
So, if it wasn't Rheumatoid Arthritis, what was it?
For the past few years, running concurrently with my hand issues, I had been suffering from digestive problems. I would get nausea, gas, bloating, diarrhoea, and acid reflux. I underwent blood tests, stool tests, an Endoscopy, and a Fluoroscopy/Barium Swallow. Eventually, I would be diagnosed with Gastritis and treated with PPIs. For those of you that may not know, Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining (this will be important later). Though the PPIs seemed to help at first, my symptoms would eventually return.
Whenever I spoke to a GP or a Gastroenterologist about my stomach issues, I would always ask the same question - "Could my stomach problem be related to my hand problem?". Though most would usually give me a condescending smile and tell me it's not likely, one Gastroenterologist said that it could be. He suggested that if I have a food intolerance, it could cause joint pain.
AHA! That was it! All I needed to do was eradicate all known allergens from my diet, and I will have solved all my problems! Whilst removing allergens did indeed solve my stomach issue, it did not solve my hand issue. In fact, the eradication of allergens saw the start of the longest period of Trigger Finger I had ever had.
I was so confused. What the hell was going on!? I'm eating better and moving more than I ever have in my life! Why do I still have trigger finger and why is it so much worse now?!
Through sheer dumb luck, I just happened to be watching a YouTube video on nutrition, when I found my first clue. In the video, a Harvard professor hypothesized that Trigger Finger was the first sign of Metabolic Syndrome. Hearing this really gave me a dolly-zoom moment. Though I didn't think I had Metabolic Syndrome, I was now even more convinced that my problems were either diet or digestion related.
As Trigger Finger involves tendons, I decided to start learning more about tendon health and tendon repair, and how to achieve it through nutrition. I discovered many things. First, I learned that Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) regulates collagen synthesis. Then, I discovered that Hyaluronic Acid not only helps tendons glide, but is a large component of synovial fluid, which is what lubricates the joints.
Before long, I had amassed a cabinet full of supplements that contributed to the health and repair of tendons and joints. On a daily basis, I would take Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Hyaluronic Acid, Zinc, DHA Omega-3 (from Algae), Magnesium Taurate, Bromelain and Creatine. However, whilst all these did likely improve the health of my tendons and joints, I still had mild trigger finger.
BUT THEN...
I discovered 3 things.
1) Inflammation (e.g. Gastritis!) can lead to the depletion of Vitamin B6.
2) Vitamin B6 is vital to collagen formation and cartilage health.
3) Vitamin B6 deficiency has been linked to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes, Autism, Down's Syndrome, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Epilepsy, Schizophrenia, Cancer, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Trigger Finger!
EUREKA! Had I just found the solution to my problem?!
I decided to purchase Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, which is the active form of Vitamin B6. I chose this instead of Vitamin B6 because B6 can cause toxicity in large doses.
I also discovered the work of Dr John Ellis, who figuratively and literally wrote the book on Vitamin B6. He advised taking 20-50mg three times a day for Trigger Finger, which I did (50mg).
I kid you not, within one week, I no longer have trigger finger in either middle fingers, after months of consistent problems. Honestly, I am in shock. When I first read about B6, I was so sceptical. However, when the evidence seemed to stack up in it's favour, I knew I had to try it. I am so glad I did! If you too are desperate, I'd say it's definitely worth a try!
If anyone decides to try Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate to treat their triggering fingers, please remember that it can take up to 3-6 months before you see any results. That said, you could be one of the lucky ones, like myself.
If I could advise anyone seeking to get rid of their Trigger Finger, I would suggest the following -
1) Consider taking a Bromelain supplement on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. This will help lower inflammation and assist in the repair of your tendon.
2) Consider taking Magnesium Taurate. This has long be known to helpful for tendons and ligaments.
3) Take 20-50mg of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, with meals, 3 times a day.
4) Resist cracking the knuckles of the fingers that are triggering!
5) Eat as clean as you possibly can! If you can't completely resist ultra processed foods, at the very least, try to eliminate sugar and saturated fat.
6) Perform the following Trigger Finger exercises between 2-3 times a day - DIP & PIP Flexion Stretch, FDP Isometric Exercise, DIP Blocking, Pencil Flexion Exercise. There is an excellent YouTuber who does great videos on Trigger Finger, but I don't think I'm allowed to advertise or promote here?
Anyway, I wish you good luck in your journey! I truly hope this helps someone!
If you have any questions, please let me know! :)

2024.05.27 17:54 mushroomsarefriends Rapid Weight Loss is a bad thing

I think the weight loss issue is what causes people to settle on diets that are just terrible.
If you think about it, humans want rapid results. When we're overweight, or worse, obese, we want to rapidly lose weight.
But rapid weight loss is very much not what the body wants. It carries around that extra fat for a reason and it won't rapidly give it up without entering a distressful situation.
When you eat a healthy diet, you should expect slow and steady weight loss. And it may take a while, before the weight loss begins.
That's not what anyone likes to hear, but it is how it works.
If we judge diets by the weight loss that happens within a month of starting it, people are going to universally end up with terrible diets.
Humans don't just carry all this excess fat around without a reason. There's a virus, Ad-36, that increases people's overall body fat, but it has the contradictory effect of actually reducing your risk of diabetes, because the extra fat regulates glucose peaks.
What you see with these insane low carb diets, is that people do tend to lose weight, but their insulin resistance merely gets worse.
In other words, you're not solving the underlying problem. Rather, you're destroying the compensatory response (increased body fat), that your body is using to cope with the underlying problem (struggle to metabolize carbohydrates).
There are different things to consider here. People focus a lot on macronutrients, whether they should eat carbs, fats, or proteins and in what ratio. Generally the evidence for longevity and overall health favors high carbohydrate diets.
But what matters more are micronutrients, that help the body process the energy it gets from food. Acids slow down the speed at which carbohydrates are absorbed, vitamin C helps the body burn carbohydrates.
So the message that people should get, is that when you're obese, easy rapid solutions, are actually bad solutions.
Instead, you should seek to address the underlying problem: Your body's struggle to process carbohydrates, which it attempts to compensate for with increased body fat.
You address this through whole foods, that have acids, fiber, antioxidants and vitamins, that help your body process the carbohydrates in your food.
Then, when your body is properly able to metabolize the food you eat, it will gradually start to shrink its fat reserves.
The side-effect of accepting this is that you will avoid certain undesirable effects too, look excess baggy hanging skin.
Fast solutions are bad solutions.

2024.05.27 16:42 Efficient_Shop8857 Any Virtual Meetups?

Hey Everyone, I have been suffering from small fiber nerve pain for the past 4 years now and have just found this group. It wasn’t diagnosed as nerve pain until 1 year ago as it was written off as tendonitis. The burning pain is only in my left leg and arm and at times can put me in tears as I suffer through a extreme flair up. Doctors believe it is either from Long Covid or a B-12 deficiency. I am currently doing I-VIG once a month and am taking the following supplements: fish oil, acetyl-L-Carnitine, Lipoic Acid, Vitamin B1+, and B-13
It’s been very hard battle for me as I feel it has taken most of my 20’s, I am have had to leave my job which was a very high paying career in IT, and live alone which can leave me alone in my pain a-lot.
I was wondering if there are any virtual meetups for people undergoing nerve pain as I have found in the past being in community around hardship can be very beneficial.

2024.05.27 14:11 Historical_Diet9846 Regret my gastric bypass

I got my gastric bypass surgery back in 2019 due to my diabetes and blood pressure being out of control. I was able to help both immediately after surgery and fully appreciate those benefits.
However, I am now having issues as a result of the bypass I don’t feel were discussed enough during my education pre-surgery. I now have Exogenic Pancreatic Insufficiency and have to take enzymes with anything I eat for the rest of my life. I also have cysts in my liver (can’t prove it was surgery but never had issues prior). My surgeon also told me I didn’t need acid reflux medication any longer. As a result, my Eosinophillic Esophagitis has returned with a vengeance. I am now on strong acid medication trying to put this in remission.
I would really weigh all of the post surgery complications you can get from this surgery. I also wish Ozempic would have been around before I got this. Just wanted to share my experience.

2024.05.27 12:43 Rare-Group-4364 Rethinking Fish Oil

Fish oil supplements have long been touted as a boon for heart health, thanks to their rich content of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA and EPA. However, recent research has cast a shadow over this widely held belief. Studies suggest that regular fish oil supplement use may increase the risk of developing heart disease and stroke, raising significant concerns for those who rely on these supplements for cardiovascular protection.
The Surprising Findings
A comprehensive study involving over 415,000 participants aged 40 to 69 found that those who regularly consumed fish oil supplements faced a 13% higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat, and a 5% increased risk of having a stroke. These findings are particularly alarming for individuals without a prior history of cardiovascular disease. While fish oil supplements appeared to help those with existing heart conditions by slowing disease progression and lowering the risk of death, the potential risks for others cannot be ignored.
Understanding Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for various bodily functions, including heart health. They are known to reduce inflammation, lower blood triglyceride levels, and improve overall cardiovascular function. Despite these benefits, the recent studies highlight the complexity of their impact on heart health and the need for a nuanced approach to supplementation.
Heart-Healthy Alternatives to Fish Oil
Given the potential risks associated with fish oil supplements, exploring alternative sources of omega-3 fatty acids becomes crucial. Here are some viable options:
Algal Oil: A plant-based source of DHA and EPA, algal oil is a great alternative for vegetarians, vegans, or those concerned about fish oil's risks. Algal oil provides the same heart-healthy benefits without the associated risks found in the recent studies.
Flaxseed Oil: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid, flaxseed oil can serve as an effective alternative. While ALA is not as potent as DHA and EPA, the body can convert some ALA into these beneficial compounds. Incorporating flaxseed oil into your diet can provide a boost in omega-3s with added benefits for heart health.
Chia Seeds: Another excellent source of ALA, chia seeds can be easily added to smoothies, yogurt, and other dishes. These tiny seeds pack a powerful punch of omega-3s, fiber, and antioxidants, promoting overall cardiovascular health.
Hemp Seeds: These seeds provide a balanced ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, essential for maintaining heart health. Hemp seeds are versatile and can be sprinkled on salads, cereals, or blended into smoothies.
Walnuts: Known for their heart-healthy properties, walnuts are rich in ALA and make for a nutritious snack or addition to meals. Regular consumption of walnuts has been linked to improved cardiovascular health and reduced risk of heart disease.
Perilla Oil: Common in Korean cuisine, perilla oil is high in ALA and can be used similarly to flaxseed oil. It offers a flavorful alternative while contributing to your daily omega-3 intake.
Moving Forward with Heart Health
While the recent studies on fish oil supplements highlight potential risks, they also underscore the importance of ongoing research to fully understand the complexities of omega-3 fatty acids and their impact on heart health. Individuals considering changes to their supplement regimen should consult with healthcare providers, especially those with existing health conditions or specific dietary needs.
The link between fish oil supplements and increased heart disease risk calls for a reevaluation of how we approach omega-3 supplementation. Exploring alternative sources of these essential fatty acids can help maintain heart health without the potential drawbacks associated with fish oil. As always, a balanced diet, regular exercise, and consultation with healthcare professionals are key to promoting cardiovascular wellness.
For more detailed insights and guidance, refer to the latest research published in reputable medical journals and health news platforms.

2024.05.27 11:16 OxijenThief Best studies that support the keto diet?

Imagine you only had 5 minutes to convince someone of your position. Now also imagine they’re actually open to considering you may have a point and are willing to change their mind about some of the things they’ve heard about nutrition and what’s healthy, but they’re going to need some seriously strong scientific evidence before they’ll be convinced. What studies would you show them? Here’s the best ones I can find:
Substituting high-carb plant foods like potatoes and grains with lean red meat lowers inflammation, blood pressure, oxidative stress, and leukocyte count: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17237312/ and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16600928/
Eating more red meat in place of carbs had no adverse effect on lipids, inflammation, blood pressure, or insulin sensitivity: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32359153/#:~:text=Conclusions%3A%20Substituting%20lean%2C%20unprocessed%20beef,prediabetes%20and%2For%20metabolic%20syndrome.
Eating more than twice as much red meat on a Mediterranean diet as normal yielded the exact same health benefits: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29901710/
Replacing saturated fat with linoleic acid lead to more heart disease and higher mortality: https://www.bmj.com/content/346/bmj.e8707
A case study of a little girl who was cured of both her non-functional autism and her epilepsy by a keto diet: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23666039/
A study that found that even after 2 years a keto diet was effective at reversing diabetes, lowering inflammation and blood pressure, improving lipids, and with no adverse side effects, including zero cases of ketoacidosis or hypoglycaemia: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31231311/
Low-carb helping women with PCOS to lose weight, become more insulin sensitive, lower their testosterone, and become pregnant despite previously being infertile: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16359551/
Low-carb decreasing body fat and increasing muscle mass and free testosterone in men: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0026049502000100
Low-carb improving depression and just about halving the symptoms of schizophrenia: https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychiatry/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2022.951376/full
A study that concluded low-carb diets reduced cardiovascular disease risk more than low-fat diets: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022316623027281
This study found obese individuals lost more weight on a low carb diet without caloric restriction than on a low fat diet with caloric restriction and their triglycerides decreased more and their insulin sensitivity improved more even after adjusting for amount of weight lost https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12761364/
I’m really looking to compile all the most unarguable evidence there is, but I’m sure there’s some stuff I’ve missed, so I’m asking for your help. No observational studies, food industry funded studies that only show correlation, or anything done on animals, please. I’m looking for strong to rock-solid scientific evidence that’s near impossible to poke holes in or for someone to rationalise/explain away. Especially when it comes to common keto misconceptions like fat bad, saturated fat extra bad, meat bad, cholesterol bad, etc.
Give me your best stuff.

2024.05.27 10:45 Joshpills anyone know of a similar supplement

for around 3-4 years I took this supplement and my life was never better. it was marketed as a sexual health supplement, but it improved my life in so many ways.... hormone levels all at the top of the range, amazing mood, amazing energy, best sexual function ever, no stress, brain function and memory was amazing..... just felt amazing all round.
unfortunately, the guy selling them passed away, his website shut down and the supplement became unavailable. and I cant find anything remotely similar available.
back a fair few years ago I could find many similar supplements, all marketed as sexual health supplements, however now they all seem to have disappeared.
ive tried recreating the supplement by buying the individual ingredients/ multi vitamin etc etc... its working somewhat, but the amount of pills makes me feel ill, I cant buy/include everything... and the dosing I believe is too high in all the individual pills.
anyone know of anything similar to this? im more interested in the herbal extract blend part of the supplement, if I could find that part, the rest I can put together with amino acid and multi vitamin tablet and a couple of others.
thank you and sorry for the long post

2024.05.27 09:57 OxijenThief What are some slam-dunk studies that support the carnivore diet?

I’m trying to collate all the best and most irrefutable studies there are that demonstrate all that we on this WOE already know eg saturated fat doesn’t cause heart disease, meat isn’t inflammatory, fiber isn’t necessary, LDL isn’t a big deal, etc, etc. This is my list so far:
That RCT most of us have already seen curing 100% of participants of constipation and bloating with a zero-fiber diet: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3435786/

2024.05.27 05:14 AsleepFigure2077 My Experience and a Discourse on "DUPA"

My Background:

I follow a somewhat genetic pattern of hair loss, but I am losing hair in the donor area, back of the neck, and sideburns. I have consulted with three dermatologists specializing in scalp and skin, and all of them said that I would not be a candidate for a hair transplant. (Currently taking finasteride).

Hypothesis 1: Thyroid Levels

I was told that my thyroid might be an issue, so I had my levels checked, but they were very normal.

Hypothesis 2: Vitamin D

my levels are 67 (which is high within the normal range[20~100]), so it’s not a vitamin D issue.

Hypothesis 3: DHEA

Bypassing Finasteride Pathway and Binding Directly to Scalp Androgen Receptors
I used topical dutasteride for about six bottles, and applied MTS (microneedling therapy system) once a month, but I did not see any benefit.

Hypothesis 4: Nutritional Deficiency

No, I take daily multivitamins, omega-3, magnesium, probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid, and grape seed extract.

Hypothesis 5: Diabetes

Diabetes can cause circulation problems. However, I am not obese and am only 30 years old. I don’t think I have diabetes.

Hypothesis 6: Seborrheic Dermatitis

Interestingly, I did not experience hair loss when I had seborrheic dermatitis. Oddly, my hair loss accelerated rapidly once my seborrheic dermatitis was cured and my facial acne disappeared. I still use a shampoo with piroctone olamine.

Hypothesis 7: Lack of Nutrition to Hair Follicles

Korea is known for its good cosmetics. I consistently used expensive hair loss tonics (containing niacin, lactobacillus, caffeine, rosemary oil, peppermint oil, dexpanthenol, and various natural ingredients). I have spent an unbelievable amount of money on these products.

Hypothesis 8: Chronic Inflammation

In my school days, I always had acne, atopy, oily skin, keratosis pilaris, body acne, and hives. Interestingly, it feels like the inflammation has moved from my sebaceous glands to my hair follicles. (I am currently taking beta-sitosterol to reduce inflammation).

Hypothesis 9: Causes Similar to Female Pattern Hair Loss?

For women, DHT is not considered the main cause, as about half of the women experiencing hair loss also lose hair under the ears, sideburns, and back of the neck. This cause has not yet been properly identified.

Hypothesis 10: Excessive Cortisol and Stress

I think I got stressed because of hair loss, not that hair loss was caused by stress.

Hypothesis 11: High Prolactin Levels

I am planning to test my hormone levels next week.

2024.05.27 02:52 nicoli_oli TPO Antibodies

My friends and family don't always understand but I just wanted to post about a Hashimoto's win (we don't always get a lot of wins 😅). My TPO Antibodies went from >600 to 303 from October to now. It was nice seeing that all my hard work was finally paying off. I feel like this disease can really get you down at times but I feel like I'm finally understanding how to really control it after years of being ignored by doctors. It's not perfect but seeing progress is so exciting when you've felt so down for years. As annoying as it is to change your meds, supplements, dietary habits, etc, it is worth it to feel normal again. I see a lot of depressed folks on here and I have been depressed myself many times. I just wanted to post something a little more positive this time around.
EDIT TO ADD: a few people were asking about the changes I made to get my levels so much lower. It was a combo of many changes I've been making with my functional medicine practitioner. I know some people think functional medicine isn't the best but it has helped me tremendously. You just need to find the right office. So when I went to her, we did a ton of testing. I got a NutrEval test done (for nutrient levels), food sensitivity test, and other labs. My hormones were all over the place. My T3 was in a normal range but my reverse T3 was really high so I couldn't really use my T3 efficiently. I had tons of nutrients that were low. After all that testing, I got put on a compounded version of Armour Thyroid. She lets me adjust my dose based on my symptoms. I'm on progesterone and testosterone because I had crazy estrogen dominance. I'm on zinc carnosine, L-glutamine, and collagen for gut healing. I'm taking alpha-lipoic acid, B complex, vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc 15 because all of those vitamins were low. I'm on a special diet related to my food sensitivity test. I was already gluten free because I have Celiac Disease. I had a lot of random foods I was sensitive to that I stopped eating. Some of my triggers included corn, soy, bananas, cane sugar, mustard, eggs, etc. Dairy was not a trigger for me but I may try removing it at some point. When I say I wasn't strict in the original part of the post, I had started eating some sugar, mustard, soy additives, etc here and there. I did get a little lazy with the diet but seeing the progress, I'm going to try to get back to being strict. I'm not 100% perfect but I do feel a lot better than I did back in October. I remember crying in her office because I just felt like I had no control over my Hashimoto's. Last thing I want to add is that with all these changes, a lot of my other labs got better too. All my vitamin levels are in good range now. My cholesterol has gotten better (still working on this one because I eat way too much cheese 🤣). My insulin resistance is better. My CRP was cut in half.

2024.05.27 02:40 manic_greengoddess Normal glucose levels?

I had to go out of town unexpectedly and my cat missed 4 or 5 shots. I’m not sure if he’s in remission but he almost seems better than normal now. He was recently diagnosed with diabetes and has been on 3 U of Lantus. My Alpha trak 3 says blood sugar has been 150-190 throughout the day. Is that low enough that he doesn’t need insulin shots anymore?
