2024.05.19 17:28 VeterinarianNo2256 [M4F] The Vampire Orphanage

Please be literate, descriptive and over the age of 18. I will be writing as three seperate characters who each have their own unique personalities. Your character is a human (or perhaps a different supernatural creature) who is in charge of taking care of these three orphans who reside in a large mansion. If you have any questions or if you're interested in this plot, feel free to send me a message.
Deep within the darkened forest far away from any other civilization or people, a village full of Vampires lived in solitude. No one besides the villagers knew that this place even existed. They normally kept to themselves and it was absolutely crucial that they did not tell anyone that this placed existed. Because if they did, a large amount of humans would come and most likely end up destroying the village.
The village was very well maintained and every citizen had their own assigned duty to take care of. Even though it was still rather small, the village still had the necessary buildings to survive and thrive. They had a school, grocery store, farms and a random assortment of different buildings that included a museum, indoor pool, library and restaurants.
It had seemed like they were doing very well for themselves. However, they had one very big problem that they could not solve. Due to the severe lack of female Vampires, it was impossible to breed and continue the "Vampire legacy" of living in this village. There wasn't a single female living in the entire village, only males. Due to this severe problem, the Vampire who was in charge of the village decided to invite one single human female to the village and see if she would be able to get along with the other Vampires within the village. The whole point of this was to see if Humans and Vampires could get along in the first place. It was something that the whole village agreed on, considering that their race would eventually die out if they continued to do nothing about this problem.
The human female would be staying in the orphanage with three Vampire boys. If she was able to get along with them, surely it would be no problem to interact with the other Vampires of the village. This was a test to see if a human female was able to co-exist with another completely different species.
The orphanage was rather dark and dreary. Even though the building was rather large and had many windows, there was hardly any light shining through the windows because the curtains were almost always closed. Sunlight did not affect them at all, but obviously Vampires preferred to stay in the dark. It wasn't dusty or dirty at all, except for a few things that were left on the floor and never picked up.
The boys who occupied the Orphanage were named Drax, Athan and Cain. Drax was always the trouble maker who thoroughly enjoys teasing people and occasionally playing pranks. He was also mischievous and the oldest out of the three of them. Athan was straightforward and was basically the one always making sure Drax would not get into trouble. He is very responsible and makes sure everyone is taken care of. Cain was shy and hardly talked to anyone besides Drax and Athan. He normally kept to himself and it was difficult for him to open up to new people. None of them have even met a female before, let alone seen one.
High above on the second floor, Drax leaned against the railing with his elbows perched against the top of it. His bright pink eyes scanned down at the floor below, watching Cain draw a picture with a piece of paper and a wide variety of different pencil crayons. He leaned his face against the palm of his hand in boredom. "When is that new person supposed to be arriving? I'm getting tired of waiting." Athan who was also on the second floor adjusting a few pieces of furniture replied back to him. "I think she will be here in a few minutes. I'm very curious to find out what she looks like. I guess she will look a lot more different than a male, right?" Draw replied back. "I guess so. Hopefully she is pretty. If she is, she can sleep in my bed." He said, grinning evilly.
Athan rolled his eyes. "I doubt she would do that in the first place. Anyway, I'm sure it will be fun showing her around the village and visiting all the fun spots."
Cain continued to quietly draw his picture which consisted of a mansion with a bunch of bats surrounding it.

2024.05.19 17:26 SmoothBarnacle4891 "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER" (2022) Commentary

During the height of my high regard for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), among the movies of which I had been a major fan were the Captain America releases. At least two of them. The third film in this mini franchise - 2016's "CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR" proved to be a major disappointment for me. However, when I heard that Disney and Marvel Films had plans to air a miniseries about the characters Sam Wilson aka the Falcon and James "Bucky" Barnes aka the Winter Soldier, I must admit that I felt a renewed interest in the franchise again.
When I said a renewal of the MCU franchise, I meant it. Aside from a few movies like "ANT-MAN", "BLACK PANTHER", "CAPTAIN MARVEL" and "ETERNALS"; the MCU had become a major disappointment for me ever since the release of 2015's "THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON". One might ask . . . what about the MCU television productions that aired on the Disney Plus streaming channel? Aside from one production that I somewhat liked and one that I loved, most of them have been disappointing to me. Unfortunately, I have to include this follow-up to the Captain America movies, "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER".
Set six months after 2019's "THE AVENGERS: ENDGAME", "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER" followed former war veteran/Avenger Sam Wilson, who has resumed working the for the U.S. government, while using his role as the Falcon. When the government recruits Sam to track down and deal with a group of enhanced anarchists known as "the Flag Smashers", former World War II veteran/HYDRA tool/Avenger James "Bucky" Buchannan aka the Winter Soldier decides to join Sam in his mission, due to his lingering guilt as a former HYDRA assassin and their shared experiences as Steve Rogers' close friends and battling Thanos and his army.
Since "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER" had aired on the DisneyPlus channel in six episodes, I had seriously considered ranking the episodes. But like Season three of the Marvel Netflix series, "DAREDEVIL", the more I watched "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLIDER", the more it disappointed me. Aside from complaints about its pacing, the limited series had received a great deal of praise from critics and fans alike. Because of this, I believe it was one of the most overrated productions in the MCU history. People had seemed so focused on little moments and scenes that very few had noticed how the series' narrative seemed to be all over the map. For example:
~\Sam Wilson~* - This limited series is supposed to be a follow up to the events of "ENDGAME" in which Sam had received the Captain America shield from an aging Steve Rogers, a sign for him to take up the latter's costumed role. Was this an attempt by Marvel Films/Disney to make Sam a more relevant character? If so, why? Why did a MCU character have to replace Steve as the new Captain America to be more relevant? Why not allow Sam to continue as the Falcon, only push his role to the forefront as one of the franchise's new leading characters? Some might accuse me of not wanting a black man as Captain America, a topic that was brought up in the series. Frankly, I never wanted another character - regardless of race, gender or ethnicity - to become the new Captain America. That includes Bucky Barnes. Allow Steve Rogers to fade into the background and let Sam (as the Falcon) shine as one of the franchise's new leads. However, the die has been cast. One can only sit back and see if moviegoers are willing to accept Sam as the new Captain America.
Perhaps the MCU had to make Sam the new Captain America in order to make him more relevant. Why would I say that? The showrunner for "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER", Malcolm Spellman, came dangerously close to shoving Sam into the role of the second lead or worst, a role he has been since his debut in 2014's "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER" - a supporting character. During the series' first three or four episodes, someone other than Sam (either Bucky Barnes or Helmut Zemo - two white men) made decisions that allowed the plot to move forward, not Sam. He was simply regulated to being an observer or reactor. The series even managed to undermine Sam's decision not to support the Sokovia Accords in "CIVIL WAR". In thee 2016, Sam became the first Avenger to speak out against the Accords and declare his intentions not to sign it. Yet, according to Bucky in this series, Sam had merely followed Steve's example in rejecting the Accords. And Spellman did nothing to allow Sam to correct this misconception.
~\James "Bucky" Barnes~* - One of the few aspects of "CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR" I found enjoyable proved to be the interactions between Sam Wilson and Bucky Buchannan. Despite their lingering jealousy and competition over the role as "Steve Rogers' best friend", the pair's interactions proved to be very entertaining, thanks to the screen chemistry between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Unfortunately, Mackie and Stan could not save "CIVIL WAR" for me. Nor could they save "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER", due to its problematic writing. A good deal of that writing surrounded Bucky's character. I have so many questions about his role in this series. For example:
-Why would any official of the Joint Counter Terrorist Center allow Bucky to visit and question Helmut Zemo, the man responsible for the U.N. conference bombing in Vienna, in "CIVIL WAR"? That made very little sense to me. Surely the JCTC authorities remembered how Zemo managed to brainwash Bucky into making his own prison break in "CIVIL WAR"? Also, Bucky was on parole for his activities as a brainwashed HYDRA assassin. Yet, the JCTC had allowed him to visit Zemo? Surely, the showrunner could have allowed Sam, who was serving the U.S. government again, to be the one to visit and question Zemo?
-How on earth did Bucky managed to evade being arrested and charged for helping Zemo escape from the JCTC? The U.S. and other governments should have been suspicious of Bucky after learning about his visit to Zemo.
-Bucky came off as an arrogant school jock, who thought he was entitled to get his way - especially in his interactions with Sam. I found it hilarious that many fans had criticized John Walker aka Captain America aka U.S. Agent for such toxic behavior. Yet, they had turned a blind eye to Bucky's own behavior. And so did the series - up until the last two episodes. Why did the showrunner allow Bucky to get away with this behavior toward Sam for so long without any complaints from the latter?
-I did not care how Bucky had bullied his way into Sam's mission without the latter's consent. What I found even more annoying was the U.S. government's decision to allow Bucky to join Sam's mission after that ludicrous "therapy session" they were forced to attend together.
~\Racism -~* A good number of MCU fans had complained about the inclusion of racism in "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER". I had no problems with this direction, considering the story was about Sam, an African-American man, becoming the new Captain America. However, I had a good deal of problems with how the production explored the topic of racism.
The story of Isaiah Bradley, Marvel's second Captain America, had originated in the comics. In the MCU, he was a Korea War veteran whom the United States Army used as one of several unwilling African-American test subjects for their version of the Super Soldier serum. I realize that both Marvel Comics and the MCU had attempted to use Bradley's experience as a metaphor for the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. The problem is that I cannot see the U.S. government and the Army - both racist organizations in the early 1950s - be willing to risk the possibility of creating a non-white super soldier. Despite the recent desegregation of the Armed Forces in the late 1940s. And both the government and the Army had been more than willing to use white soldiers in other experiments.
After saving a group of black American super soldiers from a prison camp, Bradly was imprisoned by the U.S. government for thirty years. I saw nothing wrong with this twist in the character's narrative, until I remembered two things - Bradley had been able to free his fellow soldiers without anyone's help; and nearly sixty years later, Steve Rogers managed to break into the Raft and free those Avengers who had refused to sign the Sokovia Accord. Why was Bradley unable to free himself from prison? This is the man who had defeated the Winter Soldier by breaking the latter's metal arm. And he was not powerful enough to make a prison break, let alone evade capture?
I had assumed Sam's difficulty in becoming the new Captain America would stem from the government's reluctance to recruit a black man for the position. That would explain their decision to recruit the blond-haired John Walker instead. But the series never really made it clear whether political racism had played a role in Walker's recruitment. The series also had James "Rhodey" Rhodes had paid Sam a visit, emphasizing the importance of the new Captain America being black. As it turned out, Sam's own insecurities about becoming Captain America had more to do with him not initially assuming the role. There was also that interesting scene outside Bradley's Baltimore home where the police arrested Sam during verbal argument with Bucky. Although the cops backed away when they recognized Sam as an Avenger, they ended up arresting the parolee Bucky for missing his required therapy appointment. This scene was supposed to be a case of racial profiling. But . . . we might as well be honest. In the real world, the police would not have backed down from hassling Sam. What I found more disturbing was the production's handling of Bucky's arrest. Once the police discovers that Sam was an Avenger; they turned to arrest Bucky for failing to show up for his missing his therapy session. Not only did the police arrest Bucky with a more gentle behavior, they did so, accompanied by Henry Jackman's mournful score, something that did not accompany the moment of Sam being arrested. Were the audiences expected to notice the hypocrisy and racism in the police's handling of the two men? Expected to feel sympathy for Bucky? Or both?
The last episode featured a scene of two black kids playing with toy Captain America shields. Someone had commented that the shields (especially in the hands of non-white children) represented hope to the future of race relations in the United States. Why? How? This country had a biracial president for EIGHT YEARS. Yet, U.S. racial policies have remained problematic even to this day. I can say the same for other countries. The so-called symbolism of this scene only reminded me of how human beings put so much faith in imagery and symbolism. And this strikes me as a FALSE FAITH. Why was taking up the mantle of a costumed hero that had been previously occupied by a white man, the only way for Sam Wilson to become relevant within the MCU franchise? What was wrong with him being "the Falcon"? Sam becoming the next Captain America was not going to save the U.S. in regard to race relations - not in real life and not in the fictional world of the MCU. Looking back on the series, the series' only scenario that seemed to expose racism in a realistic manner, proved to be Sam's failure to acquire a bank loan for his family's fishing boat in Louisiana.
~\Sharon Carter~* - I am certain many MCU fans are aware of this. One of Marvel Comics' most iconic couples happened to be Steve Rogers aka Captain America and Sharon Carter aka Agent 13. She also happened to be the great-niece of Peggy Carter, Steve's love interest during World War II. Portrayed by Emily VanCamp, Sharon was first introduced as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER" as a potential love interest for Steve. Despite Sharon's appearance in the following Captain America movie, "CIVIL WAR", their romance never really developed. Many blamed the lack of chemistry between VanCamp and Chris Evans. I never had a problem with their screen chemistry. I had a problem with the lack of relationship development between Sharon and Steve. And I blame Kevin Feige's decision to transform the third Captain America film into a third (and badly written) pseudo Avengers movie. The change in the film's narrative, along with Sharon's failure to appear in "THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR" and "ENDGAME", left no opportunity for Sharon and Steve to become the romantic pair they had been in the comics. Instead, Sharon became a fugitive from the U.S. government after helping Steve and Sam hunt down Bucky, moved to Madripoor, a city-state with no U.S. extradition and became an embittered criminal known as "the Power Broker".
After "CIVIL WAR", nearly five years had passed before Sharon appeared in another MCU production - namely this series. And what happened? The franchise, with Spellman, ended up completely destroying her character by transforming her into the villain known as Power Broker, the criminal leader of an Indonesian city-state called Madripoor. After helping Steve and Sam acquire their suits and equipment in order to go after Bucky in "CIVIL WAR", Sharon lost her job with the C.I.A. and became a fugitive. She eventually moved to Madripoor, a city-state with no U.S. extradition, to evade capture, survived Thanos' Snap and became an embittered criminal nicknamed "the Power Broker" in order to survive the new world.
What really pissed me off about Sharon's arc between "CIVIL WAR" and "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER" is that her development into a major villain all happened OFF SCREEN. Off screen. Apparently, screenwriters for "INFINITY WAR" had written a draft that included Sharon in the movie. But according to Christopher Markus, he and Stephen McFeeley could not imagine scenes featuring Steve and Sharon trying to make it work in an apartment, because the 2018 movie did not have time to focus on their personal life. Why did Marvel simply fail to allow Sharon to be part of Steve's vigilante team - like Sam and Natasha Romanoff? I mean . . . good fucking grief! And why did Malcolm Spellman believe the only way Sharon could be interesting was to become a villain in "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER"? This was his idea of improving Sharon's character?
~\Helmut Zemo aka Baron Zemo~* - Why did Malcolm Spellman, Kevin Feige and the MCU thought it necessary to bring back Helmut Zemo, the Sokovian-born villain from "CIVIL WAR"? What role did he play in "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER"? I realize that Bucky, of all people, visited the incarcerated Zemo to acquire information on who had created the super-soldier serum that empowered the Flag Smashers. But why did he believe Zemo could provide the answer? Because he thought HYDRA was involved? Bucky or Sam could have searched for information from sources other than Zemo, who had been incarcerated for . . . what? Eight years? Eight years. Zemo managed to become something of a crowd-pleaser, thanks to Daniel Brühl's performance. Otherwise, I found his presence in this series unnecessary.
~\The Big Bad~* - Why on earth did it take this series so long to finally reveal the main villain's identity? At first, the series hinted the Flag Smashers, led by Karli Morgenthau. However, the series tossed other potential candidates for the Big Bad before viewers - John Walker, Helmut Zemo and yes, Sharon Carter. But in the end, Morgenthau and her group proved to be the main villains.
The Flag Smashers were a group of empowered people who believed the world was a better place between Thanos' Snap and the Blip (resurrection of those who had died during the Snap), when Humans around the world managed to unite and form a borderless society, one in which people helped others without any thought to nationalism and bias. Thanks to the Avengers, the world resumed its conflicts between nationalities and other groups. In other words, the borders returned.
Frankly, I have nothing against this ideal. Only Ms. Morgenthau and her followers resorted to violence and terrorism to achieve their goals. Does this sound familiar? It should. The Flag Smashers proved to be another example of characters with a progressive goal, resorting to extremism and becoming villains. This seemed to be a growing trend within the franchise, which I believe began with Erik "Killmonger" Stevens aka Prince N'Jadaka in 2018's "BLACK PANTHER". Since then, the MCU has not looked back at its growing roster of progressive villains. Perhaps I should not have been surprised. The franchise's ambiguous portrayal of an unconstitutional document like the Sokovia Accords, should have been the wake-up call. It seemed as if Kevin Feige, Marvel Films and Disney Studios had finally exposed themselves for the faux progressives they pretend to be. Frankly, this form of villainy has become tiresome to me.
After writing this article, I had considered ranking the six episodes featured in "THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER" anyway. But I decided against it. My dislike of the series made it impossible for me to even bother. Being a fan of the first two Captain America movies, I had truly hoped this series would redeem the franchise. Unfortunately, it proved to be just as disappointing as "CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR". Pity. Perhaps the fourth film, "CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD" will do the trick. I hope so.

2024.05.19 17:25 bladehunterhd Anger towards my Dad

To start off, my dad used to be my hero growing up, when I was a kid and he was deployed over seas I would cry for him to return, and even with his anger issues and yelling against me and my two siblings I stilled cared about him but in 2014 we would move and my family arrived my dad planned on divorcing my mom, he planned this by holding onto out furniture as to wait to get my mom kicked out of the house so we had to me and my sister had to wait for our furniture my brother would be lucky as he went to college as we were moving, but me and my sister didn't go to school intill our furniture arrived. During that time we were using air mattress while my dad wasn't in the house, at the time I thought our furniture was just taking a long time to arrive as we moved from Hawaii and my dad was just out of the house for a while as this happened before when my parents had a fight, and even when me and my sister went on visitation I thought it was temporary intill my dad told us they were getting a divorce. I was sad but didn't also fully realize the situation, it wasn't intill my dad got a apartment after renting a room in a house that my anger for my dad started as after my and my sis helped bring things in he told us "I'm sorry for your mom being such a monster". After that situation would be 5 long years of visitation and him trying his hardest to get full custody while my mom would get none, luckily that never happened but he tried everything even using his sister(aunt) to sit us down when we were at Christmas visitation and ask "what medication my mom took to make her act this way" this even made me hate my aunt who up intill this point I had a decent relationship with. But my dad wouldn't stop there from calling the police on me and my sister to force us into visitation, to poking me till I had a bruise when I refused to talk to him. He even forgetting my age, when we argued and thought i was a year younger. Everything he did just made me hate him even more, but even now 5 years after I turned 18 and didn't have to see him anymore I still wanted to reconnect as I had a hole from not having a father, intill I was about to message him on Facebook and saw in 2020 he made a shirt during covid saying to make sure you wear a mask and that he need to outlive his ex-wife. I just don't understand why he hated her so much my mom did nothing to deserve this and during the divorce never said a single bad thing about him, yet he claimed she was alienating us against him, when it was him that alienated us against him. And even though he remarried and didnt even invite his kids it made me angry, and even though i wouldnt have gone it still makes me sad that he doesn't try more to reconnect besides sending me and my sibling post cards and money, that were most likely money my grandfather left us, as he told my brother about it, but my grandfather never used a lawyer and trusted my aunt to do the right thing, which my aunt is another story. I don't even want money, all I ever wanted was am apology for all the wrong he has done. There is more to the story but it's already long enough, I want to still message him but not to reconnect but to now confront him, though I dont know if I should.
Sorry for the long post.

2024.05.19 17:23 N_morgana My stbx husband got angry because I'm considering casual sex with someone I met on bumble

My (34f) stbx husband (39M) and I live in a very complicated situation. We've been in this process of divorce for already 2 years, but we still live together under the same roof. His income is significantly higher than mine (he's an anaesthesiologist) and he's not doing the effort to move out from the apartment and told me that it would make things easier for him if I supported him financially, while he is planning to travel in June on his own to Istanbul and recently bought himself a toothbrush of 300 usd. Unfortunately I'm still economically dependent on him, and just recently working on making my own income as a freelance web designer. During a discussion he got upset and angry when I told him that I wanted to stop having sex with him (because he keeps insisting and I have told him we should stop) and I met someone on bumble who I'm considering having casual sex with. He told me that I should love myself more and I'm just giving away my body to a stranger and treating myself like a whore and while he's working hard, I'm technically abusing him and talking to strangers/other guys and treat him like a money making machine because I'm "demanding" him to do some fixtures in the apartment that hasn't been finished for years, even if I wish to do this myself, he doesn't allow me to. For the record, he doesn't do any housechores at home, plays on his Playstation when he comes back from his work and he doesn't bother to cook, fold his laundry nor takes care of the dog he wanted so bad, it's me doing everything.. I have been dedicating my life taking care of our home, we have lamps hanging on cables for more than 11 years, and even if I want to change them for decorative lamps, I'm not allowed to do it myself. We have a kitchen that has been under construction since 2017, and I want to hire someone to finish it, but he doesn't agree with it and believes it's better that he does this job himself rather than a professional. We have a 5 year old daughter together and he is a good father, but there also has been issues in the past where he broke her toys during a discussion and he has hit me as well, but according to him, he did those things because I angered him during a discussion and said hurtful things, and it shouldn't matter much anymore since it happened a year ago. Our home is filled with his stuff, he also has an expensive hobby (DJ) and we live in a very small apartment. I just want a happy free life and a beautiful home and perhaps it was wrong of me to look for casual dates on bumble during this process as a way to distract myself from all the issues we have together while I'm still living under the same roof with him, but I feel that living with him has become unbearable, and I simply here to vent out.

I'm going to Boracay 2nd week of July. I'll be with my family(May seniors and baby akong kasama) and this will be our first time to visit the island. Confused ako kung saan kami magstay. I originally planned and already made a reservation(Free Cancellation) sa Diamond Water Edge yung beach front room nila. While checking out videos about Boracay, nakita ko yung Mandarin Nest, I inquired pero yung rooms nila , mostly walang windows pero yung breakfast is better than the other one. I am 36, currently work in a high stress job that brings in about 120k a year before tax which is about 5.5k after tax and social security contributions. I‘m saving between 2 and 3k into a world ETF every month, currently 250k invested / NW.
Living expenses are about 3k. They will probably be a little higher when my work hours become less (currently 50-60hweek) so I‘m planning with 4k monthly expenses.
To reach 4k as a SWR, I‘ll need about 1.5M invested capital. My plan is/was to increase my salary to about 150k which is definitely possible but will come with even more stress and pressure. That way I could - if everything goes well and the market brings average returns - reach my FIRE number in about 10 years. I‘ll call this PLAN A.
RE at 46 sounds really great to me. But the 10 years till then will be very stressfull.
Now I was offered a different job in an organization that partly belongs to the government. that job comes with a lot of advantages but also with a lower salary: - 38.5 hours in a mostly relaxed office job - Salary 100k - collective agreement that ensures yearly raises that more or less equal the inflation rate - very flexible part time options. I could reduce or increase (up to 40) my monthly hours freely - home office possible at least on some days - 6 months of continued payments if I get sick (instead of 6 weeks in my current job) - after 10 years it‘ll be almost impossible to get fired. - almost no over time work, no need to prepare or learn stuff in my free time (which is the case in my current job)
That sound like heaven to me compared to my current job. But it will destroy my current fire plans.
So PLAN B would be: - Go for the more relaxed job now and do the 38.5 hours - enjoy the additional free time - In 10 years I won‘t be able to RE, but I will be able to reduce my working hours to 24, maybe even 16 hours a week (2 or 3 days). - In 20 years I might still be able to FIRE if the markets went well and since I might get an inheritance (my parents will be 90 then; I hope they live till 100 but statistics say the probably won‘t).
Which way would you go in my situation? Plan A or Plan B?
Thank you for your opinions!

2024.05.19 17:13 idkwomp678 My partner is not child free

Hopefully this will make sense but I have been dating my partner John for about 6 months now. We had been friends previously with him and his ex, Stacy, so I was inevitably caught the middle with his break up with her who he dated for 8 years. They had two dogs together through those 8 years and when they split, they each respectively took their own dogs.
Well, to give a little more context to the break up, his ex had confided in me that she had been emotionally cheating on him for the majority of those 8 years that they had been together with a guy that she had a crush on during the beginning stages of their relationship. She told me this to help her come to a conclusion on what she should do as they had begun chatting again. I told her she either needs to block him and talk with John about it or break up with John and once again, tell him about it. She told me about how whenever they had started dating she told John that she actually didn’t like him and that she had a crush on this other guy, why he stayed? I don’t know.
Stacy ended up breaking up with John a couple days later, but told him nothing about the affair. She told me that she wanted to be friends with him because they had been together for so long that he was a comfort person to her and while I didn’t agree with it, I didn’t know how to navigate that. She began to sometimes get drunk whenever the other guy wasn’t giving her attention and trying (and successfully) to hook up with John which after a couple months he began to shut down. During this I was still working with her but decided that she was too messy and had been best friends with a girl who locked me in her car and tried to pressure me into making out with her so I began to cut ties.
Stacy would say things to me like I can’t tell John what was going on because John and I were still friends as we were friends long before I got to know her as his partner (they had been on and off again). I was incredibly stressed and conflicted during this almost year time as I had begun to have feeling for John and I am simply not one to keep secrets, especially to this extent.
Eventually John and I ended up hooking up and Stacy I think caught on. While I wanted to pursue a relationship with him, I knew I couldn’t do that without telling him the whole truth as to why he was dumped. We did this on a car ride one night as Stacy had begun to get mentally unwell as her relationship with the other guy was nothing more than sexting and John had been pulling away completely from her. She would show up to the apartment and slam doors, self harm on her thighs and walk around the apartment with the cuts showing. I took John on a car ride and she called part of the way and just asked him to come home, absolutely sobbing since he turned his location off after a year of them no longer being in a relationship. We turned around and he thanked me for telling him all of this information. But that he had already had a feeling about it as she would sometimes bring up cheating unwarranted.
Fast forward after that night where John denied her any emotional comfort and she moves out to go live with her parents. John and I decide to give this relationship a try and a couple months in Stacy called him and asked if he was happier without him. He did shut down that call, but it was an inappropriate conversation from her end but he kind of made an excuse tor her that she wouldn’t stick her nose where she didn’t think she was wanted. I disagreed and said that the call clearly says other wise.
Fast forward another couple months to a couple weeks ago and one of the dogs that they had shared passed away. John was incredibly devastated as he had raised this pup with his own dog and was inconsolable. I comforted him and the girl that had locked me in a car from earlier, texted me if I could give her John’s number. I asked John and he said yes as he was supposed to receive a paw print and some of the dogs things. Thinking that that was all, I gave her his number and later asked him what she had sent him. He told me that she had offered her condolences and that was all, but I had asked the girl when she sent the message what it was for after sending her his number and she told me after I had asked him, that she was asking if he was going down to meet his ex as she would love to see him and her dog. I realized that he had lied to me. I eventually gave my condolences to Stacy and she said she appreciated it and that John’s parents had sent her flowers on his behalf. This was something that he did not tell me.
I ended up breaking down and asking him to not go see her, without telling him I already knew that he had been asked. At the time he seemed understanding, but a day later said that I was selfish and that they had already agreed that if any one of the dogs were to pass, that they would be able to see each other. I ended up just going along with it as I felt guilty that I was uncomfortable with everything going on while he was grieving.
Well, she came up to visit him and spread ashes. He made this as a non negotiable as the two dogs were his children and that no one understands it like they do. Both Stacy and John had no plans for what the day was going to roll down and ended up spending the majority of the day together. I was an anxious wreck because I realized that while I most certainly do not trust her, but that I don’t crazy trust him in this situation either. In addition, I want to be child free as I would prefer my partner to not have deep connections with their ex and to have them tied down for the rest of their child’s life. It is simply too messy for me to handle.
While I understand to an extent that these dogs are their children respectively, I felt incredibly blind sided as he only voiced this after the dog had passed and that he had agreed to meet up with her if that were to occur. I feel as though this is a major mismatch in our relationship, and while they are not human children, they are what he perceives as children and I just don’t know what to do with all of this. It has been 2 days since they spent all day together and I haven’t been able to completely gather my thoughts or if this is something that I should break up with him over. In a weird way I am stuck in the same predicament as Stacy was because I would still want to be friends as we were before but I am just conflicted. Is there any advice or coming to Jesus that yall can help me with?

2024.05.19 17:12 itsyourmortgage How to get and keep this free from weeds?

How to get and keep this free from weeds?
We bought this house a couple years ago and the previous owner has stone everywhere. This area behind the shed is a problem area and this is the year I tackle it, but I'm not sure how to best do it. We pull massive amounts of weeds from here every single year, it's brutal. These pictures are from early in the season, it'll be double this before the summer.
The weeds are growing up through the cloth and stone, and there is a drain we can cover up. We are in Ontario Canada, so I don't think we have access to the same sprays as our American counterparts, so those might be out of the question.
Long term plan is to have it weed-free(ish), remove the trees (mosquito magnets) and do some raised garden beds for the Mrs. Need to get this cleaned up and somewhat stable first.
Suggestions?

2024.05.19 17:12 Revlar Should Magic progression have a price tag instead of/as an alternative to a karma cost?

Bear with me while I explain where I'm coming from.
The context for this question comes mostly from reading arguments about the role of Essence in the setting and the way Magic is fundamentally a "birthright" to special insight about the way the universe works and the power to interact with it. Now, I personally love that as part of the setting, but what I don't love is how the setting seems to shy away from giving it the Cyberpunk treatment. Yes, Mages are employed by corporations and all corporations want them, but the setting portrays Magic as something that's fundamentally uncontrollable by the corporations. It can pop up anywhere and give anyone the power to ruin their plans. It's a bright spot in the setting, but by dint of that it leaves me with an odd feeling.
This is meant to be speculative fiction to a large extent, and it feels like the speculation there doesn't go far enough. The main culprit, in my eyes, is the MAG score and the role of Initiation.
We all know a higher MAG score is better, and Initiation, the only method to increase it, is usually something you can't do during character generation. It's something left out for the sake of progression and tied directly to karma, which makes its actual cost nebulous. Karma doesn't have a clear material presence in the setting; It exists as a game mechanic exclusively. This creates a strange situation, where, for example, a Mage born with a MAG score of 1 can increase their MAG score by spending Karma up to the limit of their Essence, but that karma doesn't translate to any particular thing that enables that growth. It just happens.
What I want to posit is an alternative to that: A way for Awakened characters to buy up their MAG score with nuyen and to perform Initiation in the same way. I picture it as the cost of reagents and awakened plants or animal parts with high Availability required to increase one's power and control, maybe even to pay an Alchemist to turn this into a pill like in Chinese Xianxia, or to perform treatments. Using these things, Mages would grow stronger in quantifiable ways.
I feel like it would add to the setting in several key ways:

2024.05.19 17:09 FineCucumber3567 NEAR devs wanted

Hello all,
I have a dapp idea that I'm planning to do and start a start-up, since I don't have development experience, I'm looking for NEAR devs to help me out and be part of this start-up.
The thing is, I'm looking for Devs who are interested in equity shares, rather than a salary or payment.
So Tl;DR I'm looking for: 1. NEAR protocol devs interested in Equity share. 2. The dapp must be built on NEAR, this is my condition. 3. The devs to be located in western Europe, simply because I'm located there and it would be easier to communicate, meet, discuss, ...etc 4. I don't require someone who's fully dedicated, what matters to me the most is a being a team working as much as possible on it. 5. I can't disclose the project nature, but it's not a DEX, Swap, bridge, L2, or anything as we have seen in crypto so far, it's more of a novel dapp that should bridge more people to web3 and in particular to NEAR.
I'm not sure if this place is suitable but it's about NEAR and it's development so admin feel free to remove the post if needed.
If interested and the above is okay to you, please feel free to DM.
Thanks!

2024.05.19 17:07 Far-Suit-5295 My Story Of Leaving Islam

Introduction: Hello, I was born and raised in a devout Muslim family in Michigan. Islam was not just a religion for me; it was a way of life in every aspect. I prayed five times a day, fasted during Ramadan, and wore the hijab since I was 15-16. For many years, my faith provided me with a sense of community, identity, and purpose. Personal Journey: Growing up, I never questioned my beliefs. My family and community were my world, and Islam was the foundation of that world. However, as I entered my late teens, I began to encounter ideas and perspectives that made me question the beliefs I had always taken for granted. It started subtly—questions about the role of the Lord in every religion. During quarantine, I was 15-16 years old (now turning 20), I became so religious compared to the person I was before. I was reading the Quran and trying to memorize 99 names of Allah. I was fasting every Monday and Thursday (one time, my birthday was on a Thursday, and even fasted on the day). I wore the hijab and long skirt like I mentioned before. Experiencing Abuse: A significant and painful part of my journey involved experiencing abuse within my family. My mother is my first bully. She would throw insults and negative comments about my body and eating habits (no, I am actually pretty healthy). She is very insecure, and project her insecurities onto me. This went around for 5+ years. Key Questions and Doubts: One of the first issues that troubled me was the concept of being abused in Islam. Like I don’t know why some except me to trust a deity to give me a child abuser as my mother. Why would I do that? I also felt lost and hopeless when it comes to the whole thing about the respecting thing to my mother. Trust me, I do respect my mother, but she doesn’t respect me, making it so hard. I tried to find answers, but I never rather got a good one. Process of Leaving: I stop wearing hijab a few years ago. I am not going back. I loved it at first, but I gradually stop caring about it. I love my hair extensions (braids, twists, and planning to do french curls). I feel ten times more prettier for the clothes and hairstyle that I choose to wear. I am more into manifestation and affirmations to be honest. Spiritual is more freeing and gives me a happiness. Honestly, spiritual feels like a nice, warm hug. I am planning to buy some crystals too (rose quartz and citrine). Impact on Relationships: When I finally admitted to myself that I no longer believed in Islam, it did take a while. I think I was in denial for a few years. When I was 18-19, I stopped caring about religion as a whole. Although, I am more still questioning God to this day. I never told my family, knowing them, they would just get mad so I’m good. Hell, I never told anyone Muslim that I left the religion. I don’t need the extra backlash and stress. I only told my non-Muslims friends. Good thing that the only Muslims friends I have are online. They still call me sister, and I am just like ehh. Conclusion: Today, I moved out of my mom’s household. My journey out of Islam has been the most challenging experience of my life, but it has also been the most rewarding. I am at peace with my decision and look forward to a future where I can live in peace and happy.
Thank you for listening, and sorry for the long ass post.

2024.05.19 17:06 Star60WasTaken Speculations about the new DbD spinoff "What the Fog" being a data mining cash grab

Speculations about the new DbD spinoff
Not sure how many people here are interested in What the Fog but since it doesn't have it's own subreddit I thought this would be the next best thing.
I'm going to ramble a lot about the games history that I can tell from its files, so if you're not really interested in that skip down to the next sentence with bold text to get to the meat of this post.
So I'm sure most of you who did redeem What the Fog for free found it a little bit weird that in order to get your steam code you had to agree to two conditions being bHVR is allowed to data-mine from your game and share that data with 3rd party corporations. If you didn't want to agree to this you have the option of just buying the game on steam for the full price instead. Although not really major this did seem like a bit of a red flag and a couple of my friends thought so as well so I did a little digging.
It didn't take long at all from looking in the games files that this game was never intended to be Dead by Daylight themed, I'm not just talking about the fact that the weapons are overly fantasy-like or the enemies and abilities don't fit the characters I mean the fact that there are literally 3 unused characters in the games files named "Paladin", "Ranger" and "Sorcerer".
The folder containing all character models, textures, animations and abilities.
The Paladin and the Sorcerer still have their character models left over in the games files and after a long battle with Umodel, Fmodel and UE 4/5 Scripting System I managed to recover both the Paladin and the Sorcerer. After loading them into Blender and setting up their materials here's how they look.
The unused Sorcerer and Paladin character models.
These models do appear to be outdated though as they do not have a skeleton or a rig and they are using the old hand type, have an outdated UV as well as missing parts of their models.
I've been working over the past day or so to restore the models to a functional state based off the rigging of Dwight and Feng. They still need some work but here's an idea of what they could have looked like had they have not been scrapped. Interesting thing to note is that the skeletons used by Dwight and Feng have bones left over for these characters that are animated in the animations these characters use. Both characters share a 'hat' bone for the helmet and wizards hat and the Sorcerer has a 'strap' bone for knot at his chin as well as the Paladin having a 'wings' bone and a 'helm_front' bone. Take a look.
The Sorcerer and Paladin playing their menu idle animations, alongside Dwight and Feng.
The Sorcerer and Paladin playing their spawn animations, alongside Dwight and Feng.
While the Paladin and Sorcerer were left over in the files unfortunately the Ranger is nowhere to be found, they could be tucked away in a random file but as far as I can see only their textures remain. I can infer a little from their diffuse map as to how they might have appeared.
The diffuse texture for the Ranger.
I believe that the Ranger wore a green puffer jacket but the rest is a bit hard to understand from the UV... with consideration of the fantasy theme the green quarter circle shapes in the top left could be a gambeson that they wore over a brown skirt with a white shirt. I can't see any pants on the texture so this is my best guess. Their shoes were green with black detailing and they wore a green headband with yellow writing with a yellow gem in the center of their headband. Their weapon was a green crossbow bearing yellow gems. They have dark skin with black curly hair and black eyes. Based on the skeleton that all the characters use having some hair bones that nobody else uses I can assume that they had a bun on the back of their head with puffy bangs that were swept to the left of their face.
If you've played What the Fog then you'll be able to guess that the Sorcerer was replaced with Dwight, the Ranger was replaced with Claudette and the Paladin was replaced with Feng. This sudden change was assumedly made pretty late into the games development considering the fact that some abilities still reference removed character weapons and the 'SkullNBones' models that each survivor use are still using the old weapon designs from these characters when you die which I'll go into more detail about.
Feng has 3 skills she can learn which feel off, those being 'Shield Bash', 'Plated' and 'Resolve' which you can see the icons for below in that order.
Shield Bash, Plated & Resolve.
Two of these skills still depict the character with the shield/torso plating that the Paladin wears, rather than reworking these abilities they just simply left them in despite them not making much sense. The last ability being Resolve feels off due to the art style, it's inconsistent with the rest of the drawings and the shading has more of a smeared paint look to it rather than the gradient every other icon in the game has, suggesting it was drawn over when they made the switch from the Paladin to Feng. (It's hard to see from this image, if anyone wants the HD texture files to compare let me know.)
Despite those remnants still left over you can actually see the literal remains of the Paladin, Ranger and Sorcerer when a player dies and isn't revived by the end of the level. Below you can see the 'SkullNBones' models for each character where you can see that the sword has the Paladins design on the blade rather than the cloth wrapped around Feng's, the crossbow has the Rangers yellow gems on it instead of Claudette's pink gems and the staff has the Sorcerers green crystal in it rather than Dwight's blue crystal. The changes to this game to make it DbD themed must have happened late into development since the game already had original characters, mechanics and models before it was turned into a DbD spinoff. I assume they were also made very close to release considering how the wrong weapons displaying on dead players really should have been noticed before release.
The remains of the Paladin, the Ranger and the Sorcerer being used by Feng, Claud and Dwight respectively.
Other than the character models of the original characters remaining, there are some other remnants of the game before it became What the Fog left over in its files. Much like the character models I am unable to view most of them however I can say that certain mechanics such as the exit door was different. It appears to have had a massive crystal on it instead of trappers mask and would have been unlocked with a key, assumedly found in the level.
Another leftover asset are the chests that existed before Generators. I found it a bit weird that you had to spend currency to complete a generator and for it to give you a buff, turns out its because they were chests before the game was rebranded. I'll include an image of them below.
Chest_00 and Chest_02 respectively.
So what's the point of this post, well I'm a bit worried about what this game means for bHVR and DbD in the future.
On the surface this game looks like a funny little DbD spinoff but from what it looks like bHVR rebranded this game as a DbD game in order to get the fanbase of its biggest title to go "Omg! New DbD thing!" and start downloading it, normally this wouldn't be a problem as a lot of game studios make sequels upon sequels to games and spinoffs because the franchise sells but this game is a little different.
Assumedly the game was either a little side project of bHVR's or a test for the Devs when moving from UE4 to UE5, they either finished work on it or were interrupted as they have said that they don't plan to work on it anymore then slapped DbD onto it and released it for free if you agree to bHVR data mining and selling your data to third party businesses.
TL;DR What the Fog is basically a cash grab that bHVR slapped the DbD brand on very last minute to make fans buy the game. They don't plan to update it and they also offer it to existing DbD fans for free as long as bHVR can sell and use your data.
Sometimes bHVR makes changes to DbD that isn't all well received, that's just apart of game development but while those are just choices from a game design standpoint and while you could argue that these changes were made to make the game appeal to DbD fans they also decided to make it free for 2 million DbD fans who chose to sign their data away through an agreement. Looking at those two choices together looks a bit shady, I can't make accurate assumptions based off the findings in a short spinoff game so this is purely speculation and I hope I'm just blowing things out of proportion but as a DbD fan myself I'm genuinely concerned that we could start to see more decisions like this being made, I don't want to find out I'm in the reality where DbD as a game and as a franchise as well as what we're seeing produced by bHVR as well suffers as a game due to questionable business decisions.
After looking through the games files I thought this was an interesting and somewhat concerning discovery that people should know about. In any case if you did receive this game for free by redeeming a code you should go and turn off the data mining on your account through this link: https://account.bhvr.com/account/communication-preferences
You'll still be able to play the game, but bHVR won't be able to collect your data anymore.
Stay safe friends.

2024.05.19 17:04 anshleypatio I rejected IIM B, L, K, I, XLRI and more

Yes, you read it right. I got a few admits and I will not be joining any of the colleges. Will be dropping MBA in general, as I have other plans. But, as I bid this community goodbye, wanted to give back in any tiny way possible.
P.S. Do not expect to see anything new here, and feel free to ignore!
Profile; GEM 9/9/9 - T10 Engg college, Work ex: 3yrs, CAT: 99.5X, XAT: 99.2X
I had registered for CAT on the very last day, with absolutely no idea of what the exam is, or if I am even planning for an MBA. As November came closer, I decided to give it a shot as an MBA would be something that suits me. I looked around to ask friends in IIMs on how to prepare with 15-20 days to go. Everyone had different strategies so I sat down to find some material. Everything seemed vague until I started checking out previous-year papers. (I personally have given 2 mocks, and solved all slots '19-'22). The patterns that evolved over the past decade, the most likely pattern for this year, and figured how I have around 1.5 mins per question to reach a rough score of 100. (I decided upon this as the fair average to be in the top 0.1/0.2 percentile based on results from '21-'24) While I state this simply, I did go through a lot of videos from creators, to Quora, to this very subreddit to get my information. And I must say that the first-hand accounts from here helped me all along.
Remember; CAT is strategy first, ability second kind of exam. I will keep different disparities out of this post, but would ask everyone to see this being based on bucketing. Yes, your gender, category, school-marks, UG field, all matter, but then don't think the entire pool is your competition. The percentile system makes one think like that, but it isn't the case. The competition is WITHIN your own bucket, find the scoring needed there. That math will go a long way and will keep you away from unnecessary excuses and debates.
General strategies:
- set an ideal score in mind, everyone would want highest possible but set a realistic number in mind. Aim should be to score equal in all section. Give mocks/prev year papers, find weakest section, compensate for loss there by gain elsewhere. - if strong in VARC, practice completing whole thing in 40mins (whatever the section time is), else tackle in order of strongest module first (RC/ordering/summarising/fill sentence). - in QA, put a hard limit of 1.5-2 mins per question when practicing. Choose only the sections/problems you are comfortable with, learn to solve them in the exam constraints first. There is no need to know everything, this isn't boards. - in DILR, know that 1/4 is enough, 2/4 is good, 3/4 and you can afford huge mistakes in VA/QA, but being able to solve 3/4 probably means you are very strong at reading and math, so no need to think here.
I went on to give my CAT, and post that is when I got involved here the most. I was active when this community had 14k~ members, so it has grown significantly, in ways good and bad. But that's not the point. There are all kinds of people here, and therefore you should be able to find whatever you need amidst all the noise.
I had applied for top 10ish colleges based on my personal suitability (+All checkboxes in CAT form ). Adding links to their interview experiences/transcripts here;
IIM A, C, FMS - NO call [A and B have non-public criteria, but generally B has more weightage to experience, while A has for diversity. C and especially FMS need raw marks in CAT]
SPJIMR - my first interview experience, got kicked out of round 1 IIM K - admit XLRI BM - admit IIM B - PGP + PGPBA admit IIM I - admit IIT B - waitlist in 20s but opted out to not block seat IIM L - admit IIFT - will probably get IIM Mumbai, IIM Shillong, XLRI HM, IIT Delhi - filled interview forms but didn't attend All other IIMs - skipped entirely
I cannot give any specific advice on interviews as things to work upon vary greatly from person to person. You can go through the above links, and ask questions if any, I will try to answer them.
I hope this post is of help, And all the best for your plans!

2024.05.19 17:00 SisterCyrene A good list of prerequisite concepts before enrolling in college?

Hey all! I'm considering a career in IT or networking. I only have a GED. I'd like to learn as much as I possible can for free, on my own time, before enrolling in an actual college program. I'd really appreciate some advice on a good, sensible list of things I should be learning. My current plan is to devour as much free content as I can on the basics of networking, and also re-learn high school math.
I know there's a lot more, but that seems like the most obvious place to start. I need an organized list in the right order of everything I should learn to make getting a degree as smooth and easy as possible. I'd also love book recommendations. Thanks!!!
