- Plasma is 92% water and the rest is mostly protein elements.
- The plasma is separated from your blood and your red blood cells are returned to you in cycles.
- Per FDA regulations, you're only allowed to donate plasma twice in a 7 day period, with a 48 hour wait inbetween those two times. Don't risk your health by hopping around to different plasma donation centers to circumvent these regulations, and you may get caught if you do.
- Eat a meal high in protein 2-3 hours before donating, but your plasma protein levels depend on what you ate the day before.
- Drink plenty of water and/or non-caffeinated juice before donating to stay hydrated.
- Avoid caffeine such as in coffee or soda before donating or you may get nauseous and vomit or faint during your donation.
- No alcohol 24 hours before, and for a little while after donating.
- No exercising for at least 6 hours after donating as it can put too much stress on the vein.
- Some people get away with smoking or vaping nicotine before and after donating, but it's recommended not to for 2 hours before and after. The nicotine can raise your heart's pulse rate.
- If your pulse rate is 100 or above, you'll be able to do a vitals retake after a 15 minute wait. But if it's 100 or higher again you'll be deferred for the day. If your pulse rate is an issue, listen to "Pink Noise" or "Green Noise" at a low volume before donating which may help reduce your pulse rate, along with its effect on lowering your blood pressure.
- There is a risk of getting a blown vein if the worker is having a hard time finding your vein when they're sticking you with the needle or if you have small veins. You may get deferred until your vein heals if that happens. But it's ok, your body is able to regenerate your veins with a process called Angiogenesis.
- There is a risk of blood clots, but when your blood is constantly moving through the machine it prevents that from happening.
- You may be subject to drug screening. The drug screening tests for methamphetamines, cocaine, and heroin. Certain pharma prescription meds may show up as a false positive so you'll want to let the plasma center know what meds you're taking. Testing positive for these drugs can result in a permanent deferral from donating plasma.

Donating Plasma with Managed Diabetes

Absence of Complications: This means no existing diabetic complications affecting your kidneys, heart, blood vessels, or eyes.
Insulin Independence: If you rely on insulin for diabetes management, a three-month waiting period is required after using needles for non-prescribed medications. - Healthy Feet: Active foot ulcers requiring medical attention will disqualify you from donation.

- Type 1 Consideration: For Type 1 diabetics, eating within two hours of donation is mandatory.
- Wait a few hours before taking the bandage wrap off of your arm after donating.
- It's recommended to use Vitamin E oil/Mineral oil on the needle site for the puncture area to heal better. A Q-tip can be used to apply it easier. I simply dip the Q-Tip in the bottle, but never dip the used cotton back into the bottle.
- Frequently donating over a prolonged period of time may lead to your body having decreased vitamin D levels.
- Red meats are particularly high in the protein vitamins and minerals found in plasma.
- Personally, I take a Now brand Vitamin D supplement that contains vitamin D3, Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc. But I only take a half a dose, 1 gel capsule instead of 2, since I get these from eating meats and other foods as well. It's bad for your health if you take too much of these vitamins and minerals over time. I also take an Iron supplement. I also drink a protein shake before donating. Just to be safe.

The Rules
F2P No spending real money (i.e., no pearl shop).
Hardcore No dying in PvE. (If a character dies, it is deleted, along with all its equipped gear and current inventory items.)
No catch-up (i.e., no seasonal characters, no login rewards, no BSA rewards, etc.).
Ironman No help from other players (i.e., no marketplace, no horse market, no boosts, etc.).
Family Multiple characters can be created on the same account, but they all follow the same above rules.
Discussion
But you'll never be able to catch up to normal players? That’s okay - you’re not competing against normal players, you’re doing this for the sake of the challenge itself. Just try to progress as much as you can while following the rules. It’ll be fun, I promise.
How is this different from other Hardcore Ironman challenges? The family component. This allows for the following:
- Alts can be used to grind for materials and other loot.
- You can continue the challenge if your main dies. Sure, you'll lose its equipped gear and current inventory items as well as all your levelling progress, but items in storage will persist on your account. So, you can pick an alt to become your new main. It's a huge setback - but it's not the end of the challenge.
- Since life skills are shared across families now, you don't have to re-level life skills when you start a new character in your family.
But doesn't the family component make this less hardcore? Sure. But it's what makes this challenge viable, since most life skill activities in this game are limited by energy levels (so, you need alts to effectively craft items and progress your main). You can build an objectively great account by playing this challenge, though of course not without much blood, sweat, and tears.

Hey all. I’m new to collecting special editions, and I keep them all on a bookshelf in my bedroom. I live in Maine, and throughout the year, our humidity levels in the house are usually around 40-45 percent. However, it’s beginning to be a bit more humid and hard to control so far this Summer.
I currently have an AC window unit and dehumidifier in the bedroom with my books. I’ve been running the dehumidifier as much as possible with the door closed, but on rainy days, the humidity is 50-60 percent in the room. I’ve tried running the AC as well, but that hasn’t seemed to help bring it down. I’ve bought a few of those charcoal moisture control boxes and placed on the bookshelf.
Am I stressing out more than necessary? Lol I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions!

huge reason:
I'm unsure if this is currently a bug or just undocumented, but
Elitist gives additional bonuses on spell amplification simply from being active, similar to 7.35 Invoker. This spell damage amp stacks with the damage amp debuff applied on attacks with E orbs active as well.
This means you can go QW in lane, with 4 levels in each and then start maxing E. Q active is amazing for sustain. You can just spam auto attacks on your opponent and draw pretty much any lane that Invoker previously struggled with (Kunkka, DK, Ogre, etc.) with the right items. W gives you EMP which helps makes the lane unfair for your opponent. You deal a great amount of damage with your spells while your enemies are debuffed and you have 3 Es active.
Even though Agnostic seems like it's better for winning lanes, the Q bonus is honestly horrible because it doesn't proc Cold Snap until level 4 (Cold Snap requires damage instances to be >= 10) and QE is still more situational in terms of matchups compared to QW. And if you're going QE, you might as well choose Elitist for maximum spell damage anyway.
If the active spell amplification on Exort
isn't intended and it gets patched, the hero is not very good at all. There are so many heroes who got new powers and buffs while he basically got two side grades and a pretty underwhelming innate (should be higher XP per deny by 5-10% imo).

So I have a heavy load order and recently started a new game with most of the Mods I was using for a previous playthrough. Changed out a few texture overhauls for land, architecture and my character. Also city overhauls. Swapped a grass Mod for a "more FPS friendly" version. Added Sons of Skyrim and Cloaks of Skyrim after testing it out on my previous playthrough.
Tested this load order on a new temporary save and it seemed to run fine at first. The current game was fresh with this order after wiping my reserved space and hard resetting.
Now:
In cities, villages, or other cells it runs smooth as my previous playthrough with the normal brief stutter around cluttered parts of Falkreath and Riften holds that I'm not worried about as its mostly the same regardless of what Mods I have or haven't installed.
However, I am now experiencing intermittent/often stutter of varying levels when travelling the world and the landscape rendering takes a moment or two to catch up at times. Had a couple of CTD's up hill near Anga's Mill at the same place but resolved itself without me moving my load order around.
So I guess what I'm asking is, can anyone help?
Is it my load order? Though the structure is more or less the same as I've used for several playthroughs, certain things are placed in the order they are as any lower and things start to get iffy. (Had texture mods a lot further down a while ago but then other Mods like the character overhauls wasn't working properly for whatever reason so had to rearrange).
Is my load order too heavy? Though I've run 167 Mods including patches on a previous game with only occasional stuttering. Unfortunately some of the things I want don't have an AIO or I don't want the AIO - see City Trees - or they have a ton of patches required - I'm looking at you JK.
Do I have any mods that are driving my FPS into the ground that I'm not aware of? Though I know it will never be perfect while I have a grass Mod installed.
Can anyone recommend alternative options? Though I'm trying to stay away from JK's skyrim AIO because of all the patches required. Same with The Great Cities.

After he says this he spits out some blood, still confident and stubborn in his belief even after taking a hit from the Demi-Giant. Nhak: “If you can kill me…”

He spreads his arms and wings acceptingly… as if begging… “I beg you to make it hurt.”
Hirk attempts to throw a needle of thing rock through Nhaks eye hole in his helmet with a flick of his wrist. Parts of it break on the edges of his eyehole in his armour as he makes no attempt to stop it overrun by his guilt. There is now a stone needle poking through his helm not fully certain where it hit under that golden helm. Aoi: “I think you should calm down, boy.”
Aoi then proceeds to try to grab Hirk’s arm Hirk shrugs off the attempt and before any further can be made someone intervenes. Noticing direct conflict starting to break out, there is barely a blur as Hirk notices Gonkgar in front of him. Even as tall as Hirk is, Gonkgar stares down at him. He tries to grab Hirk by both of his wrists, making sure to not hurt him. Hirk flicks his hands nudging them away, he is focused on his duty. Zeroth:

Rachnia: “I am sorry, Hirk. Spirit whisper.”
She proceeds to shoot out an ethereal purple string enchanted with domination magic as it begins to work its way up his nervous system through his spine to his brain and then soul. “No-one. and I mean. NOONE. Hurts Max in front of me. Not even you Hirk!”
The lights outside all go dark, and Zeroth switches to Emergency power mode. Hirk is glowing with the erratic wild rays of fire, emitting a partially dim light from under his skin. Hirk resists the attempt of domination against his mind, but his mental fortitude built of hatred and fire is being chipped away by it. “Stand back. Or else.”
Gonkgar is pushed away for the moment, at first only attempting to stop Hirk. But now sees another opportunity "Okay. Me see how it go."
Gonkgar pulls a fist back and punches immediately, a shockwave of air from the sheer speed of his punch. He aims for Hirk's chest. The punch connects, there is a loud sound of bones cracking and skin being heavily bruised and bloodied. But he still stands in the doorframe refusing to move, his body will break before he does. A fourth voice joins the amalgation that is Ejdar right now, high and commanding, but compassionate. "
My Executioner will end you if you lay another hand on anyone here. You will be put RIGHT BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!"
Safi: “That will not be necessary.”
Ejder looks over at Safi. His darkened eye turns to the same silvery gold as the other. He gives Safi a respectful nod. There's a good chance that Ejder himself is not fully in control. Lady Fortuna: “By Fate's weave... Your continued charge... Ends.”
Kyoko appears from behind Hirk after hearing the commotion “What's going on here?”
Nhak with a gigantic needle sticking through his ghostly helm Immediately tackles Kyoko to the ground and out if the way of any fighting… shielding the two of them with his spectral wings… Eliza siren's song is that of pain and suffering, one that was often heard at sea to crash ships. Despite the noises of fire dancing inside Hirk’s mind the song still acts as a wind disrupting the fire even if it is not fully quelled the soulfire burns bright, Ali’s scars are almost at full brightness already. “You do not, get to touch him again.”
She punches Hirk straight in the chest at full force. Hirk feels the second blow to his chest, there is not a noise of cracking this time as it can be assumed there was nothing left to crack as his skin goes loose from the muscles being pulverised by both attacks he’s took head on. Having to rely on his arms holding him upright by grasping at the doorframe to not fall limp. There is no response still. Max: “Hirk. Do not. Try to hit me again.”
He takes a swig from a regenerative brew. Safi: “You asked him to do it”
Max: “Eh, expected better from my best man than to actually go through with this foolish move.”
Hirk finally after catching his thoughts which he lost from the beating he took by only two punches and Rachnia’s attempt to dominate his mind finally replied to Edjar(?), speaking less from the air in him and more the crackling of the fire inside. “Where I came from? My home is gone. The very realm burned to ash. There is nothing left. I have nowhere to go back to.” It is clear Hirk is not himself or he is now his true self which he hide under a scarf, sweater and broken promises. He makes one mutter afterwords with his breath this time rather than his fire to Aoi. “Go. I do not wish to kill you, you were not involved.*
Aoi: “You really fucking think... I'm going to let you kill Max?”

there is a eattling of a snakes tail grows louder, an ever growing sense of foreboding. "HIRK" Jean's voice booms loudly throughout the entire area. "IF YOU THINK THAT ANYONE SHOULD DIE HERE, COME AT ME! I DESERVE IT MORE THAN ANYONE IN FUCKING EXISTENCE!" She is holding both Tartarus's and 0's cores in her hands Hirk does not respond. But there is a hint of hesitation in his eyes. Jean:
"I TORTURED THAT BASTARD FOR 10 QUADRILLION YEARS. I'D SAY THAT MAKES ME THE WORST ONE HERE!" A flaming knife gets thrown at Jean by Hirk, he aims directly for the heart hoping to make it quick as a mercy. Ari: “Stop this needless fighting, this isn't going solve anything”
Ari attempts to block the knife with vines but the few that reach it in time are cut through and scared by charred marks Jean takes the knife square in her chest. Without the immortality safeguards in place, her shards fall helplessly to the ground Steam appears from Hirk’s eyes, he does not stop his savage duty despite clear grief at his own actions. Gonkgar: "Only thing that matter is no one else hurt."
Gonkgar clenches both of his fists. He goes to grab Hirk's arms, and there's a glint that sparks in his eyes.
A glint that emerges and starts to travel down his body. Different from his Ultra Instinct... Stranger, perhaps. Nhak recognizes it as a modicum of a power Gonkgar once held. The juggernaut power, gifted by the God-Slaver, that made it impossible to stop Gonkgar's advance.
At that, he attempts to start pushing Hirk
out of the doorway.
Ari begins to cause vines to grow around everyone except Gonkgar. Cerne pointers her blade straight at Hirk, her daggers fly above her head. “Not, a, step, closer, to, Max.”
Ejdar(?) shouts over to Ari after feeling their legs become tangled in them. "

" Mo chionta. Mo chreach. Bròn." Hirk suddenly bursts into flames, the metals surrounding him behind to melt even slightly. His skin is flaking off in embers. The vines at his feet and others nearby him burn. Hirk has made a deal, his blood boils. His body nothing more than kindling, no pain, no feelings of his own. Even death has lost its meaning other than knowing it will be soon. Gonkgar shattered Hirk’s bones, joints and muscles with his might. But yet Hirk stood with only one arm giving in as he still refuses to move. Inside he glows a blinding green as his body could never keep up with it without outside intervention from his ‘soul’ With Hirk now throughly on fire approaching temperatures fire should not be allowed to reach. Most without decent fire resistant would be getting hurt inside the room and around him. Fire erupting from Hirk douses over Gonkgar's body, singing at his immensely durable skin. Even so, his burned palms grip with unbreakable might. He watches Jean fall, and Max. "No..."
Glorg phases out of his back, looking at Gonkgar with wide eyes before pulling at his shoulders. A memory flashes behind Gonkgar's eyes. The powerlessness as his friend was killed long ago. The reason he trained in the first place... Was it vengeance? Or was it to protect those he loved? Even when he gained the power to fight gods, he could not protect his friends. The glint of Juggernaut enshrouds his body, but something is off... His body is no longer resisting the flames. He is engulfed with heat, skin melting away. A symbol manifests on Gonkgar's forehead. He screams and lets go of Hirk. Gonkgar falls to his knees, burning... This level of attack should not have been enough to phase him so... And yet the fires enshrouding him grow stronger on their own, not by Hirk's command. Edjar(?): "

Upon those words being said a chain of fire appears behind and wraps around Ejdar’s neck. It does not do anything other than burn them a bit. Ari realises what Hirk is doing and runs off with the shards and cores :ARI. PLEASE PUT US BACK DOWN.:

His heart stops as he says his last words. Hirk does not get a moment to respond until Max dies in front of him, he grits his teeth as more steam comes from his eyes but he does cool down as he shakes a bit. Nhak runs over to Max “Max… Max please…”

Hirk can hardly even get his words out, hyperventilating on every word. There is less hatred in his voice as it is not filled with sorrow. Nhak sits back against the wall… sheltering Max’s corpse from the flames… trying in vein to stop the heat as his hair and clothes begin to steam A small, inconspicuous rift opens near Max's body, attempting to hide behind Nhak. Talios peeks his head out. "Nhak. I will keep his body safe until revival. You can come with if you'd like, although don't stop touching me... Even though you're a ghost, the sure-hit effect may damage you still."
Sarah walks up to Nhak. “Don't... worry too much. I'll take you to see him... soon.”

Hirk’s other arm falls, his body looks to go mostly numb on hearing ‘Promise.’ Meanwhile Safi is way too calm given the current situation. They lean back in a chair. You don't know where it came from Eliza’s song increases in volume, it places a heavier tax on everyone in the room. Hirk only gets angrier as intended. She shifts her song, now that of sorrow, and death. A song used for executions... and for memorial. Somehow, Kyoko is immune to the effects of the siren's song. Ejder tilts his head, as if listening to something. A look crosses his face. He suddenly disappears. Rachnia is still trying to make her way into Hirk's mind, getting closer, as he loses sanity. The further they delve the more Images of hatred and pain slash them like daggers as they attempt to go further. She just sits through the pain of Hirk's counterattacks, she bores further through his defenses. She's getting oh so close to accessing his mind. Memories of Hirk’s home and every little joy he had there acts to disorientate Rachnia. He has had someone in his mind before from some of the memories looking tampered with. Aoi: “Everyone... get, the, fuck, out.”
Safi: “I don't intend to leave, and I don't think the rest of you can.”
Ari makes it back to where everyone is and uses vines to reach up behind Hirk “Hirk you got to calm down, you're hurting all your friends. Look around you, Is this what you want.”

Eliza’s song of sorrows starts to reach it's climax. Sadness hangs in the room like a thick mist, her eyes are filled with tears. Hirk shows some wincing sorrow in his eyes now. Rachnia: seems to finally be out of the confusion, she's been set back a few steps, but continues. All they see is fire. There is nothing else but yet it’s still his memory’s. Only burning Rachnia powers through, incredibly angry. She continues to bore further, trying to simply get a hold over Hirk's physical state instead of mental. “I just need him... calm...”
She tries to burrow beyond the memories. “Oh dear.... Hirk... I need to calm you down before things go wrong...”
She makes one final push for the finish. You see the tournament, His death at Paleo and his humiliation to Inferno. There is visible cracks around this memory. As you get closer you hear a voice. *”Stad”** you feel a desire to obey. It is not Hirk saying it.*
Rachnia: "Not until I get to the bottom... Not after this."
she pushes right through. A kind, compassionate, but stern voice speaks into Hirk's mind. Ejdar(?): "Don't you think you've caused enough pain? Stop this madness, and show the rebirth that fire can create."
"The weeds have been burned. There is now room for the flowers to bloom. You can rest."
Aoi begins channeling the power of the Oni's Setting Sun to increase her own strength. “HIRK, COME TO YOUR SENSES, YOU KNUCKLEBRAINS.”

Eliza sings final verse, A verse about the death of a lover, a death of a friend, the death of your entire world. In one vicious and hateful display of mockery to Hirk. Hirks eardrums are completely burned away. But still his heart even as it is kindling right now, still feels pain. A singular blade of fire comes at Rachnia, it’s different to Hirk’s chains, even more volatile and no refinement. It is the source, it is fire in its perfected state. she sidesteps, both mentally and physically. "not this time. Not again. I'd make him sad again."
She tries to grab into the very source. There is only a singular stone in the centre. Burning hot and bright. She winds her purple silk around it, before finally casting "Spirit Whisper" Nhak Just sits there… motionless… arms as if he still had the body of his friend…still gazing at the heavens… “I Promise… I promise…”
“I promise…”
“You two are going to get that happy ending…”

Glorg looks at Gonkgar as he is burning on his knees. The Stand, acting on its own, starts trying to pat him down. It does nothing to dissuade the flames. It's almost as if Gonkgar is exuding his own flames now, with no amount of resistance to it as opposed to normally. These flames, however, do not spread as Hirk's would. They serve only to harm Gonkgar. Glorg grabs Gonkgar by a shoulder and tries to lift his chin. The Stand, despite being unable to talk, looks petrified with worry. Gonkgar looks back up at him with a broken expression, and then looks beyond to the mayhem. There is a symbol on Gonkgar's forehead reminiscent of the one he obtained from the God-Slaver. Burning tears run down his face, eyes closed as he gives a sad smile to his long-dead friend Glorg. "Me get it now..."
Glorg looks at him with astonishment, questioningly. "It not matter what Gonkgar do... They always going to die."
Even as people make headway with Hirk's psyche, Gonkgar's has seen too many friends die on his watch for him to handle anymore. "Gonkgar sorry, Glorg... Me give up."
Glorg screams as the fires intensify to a blinding white light around Gonkgar. Gonkgar doesn't know it, but his power has always been about belief. He was unstoppable because he believed himself unstoppable. He was strong because he believed he could become strong. His Stand ensured him of that. Now, as he believed himself worthy of death, or rather, as he *desired it, his Stand's power subconsciously turned on him...*
And Gonkgar disintegrated away to ash. Glorg, staring down, disappears with a steady waver. There is an impossible thunder of the clap of wings… Nhaks arm is around the string in an instant… feuled by the death of gonkgar… his form is a brilliant deep blue… where he treads there is ice… The Sting smokes and steams… Nhak’s ghost winces… But the temperature is reduced… just barely enough to prevent any permanent damage… “I’m… sorry…”
“Hirk…”
“But I can’t let you hurt her…”
”I promised him…” Rachnia: “You... Need to realise what you are doing... Hirk... Just like you tried to punish the torturers... You became one yourself.”

DO YOU UNDERSTAND?” Hirk pays no full attention to anyone. Either because he cannot hear, feel or truly do anything in his charred state. He only looks at his scarf, it is charred and much of it is ash now. Only barely wearable. His promise. For the first time since hirk met Rachnia, there's no kindness towards him in her eyes. There's spite, despair, and anger. ”DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOUR LITTLE TRIP OF JUSTICE NEARLY COST EVERYONE?! YOU SPEAK DOWN TO US, BUT ALL YOU ARE, IS A FILTHY HYPOCRITE.” Hirk can only mouth 1 thing not even being able to speak it as he coughs up ash. He pulls his scarf close to him ’I am Sorry.’ Rachnia disconnects from Hirk entirely. “I'm going to check on Max... on the Ironsides. Nhak, you're joining me. He needs someone he can TRUST right now.”
Sarah follows behind Rachnia, carring Eliza in her hands. There is a crunch of metal as he tears the thorn violently from his head “Yes Ma’m.”

The one who spoke points to the charred body. Max looks to Rachnia, who has a pure look of spite on her face at the mention of Hirk. He's confused. He looks to the wardens. “I.... sure hope not.”

The 'Wardens reach down and attempt to use healing magic to restore Hirk's body so that it does not look so gruesome. Some skin reappears but it is mostly unsuccessful, there is little bits left of skin to even heal. Max: “...... You fucking idiot... You just had to go on a powertrip... Now, of all times... How am I going to return you from this......”

Olive: “I need to unwind, and I don't want to hurt anyone I care about”
Max: “Then go to the ironsides and hit some of the damn dolls in the training grounds.”
Nhak: “Well… stab me then… It doesn’t hurt… you could never actually hirt me…”
He spreads his arms out to her… “But get on with it, get productive, or get out of our way… “

A lone girl stands in front of the charred remains. Gray ashes do not rain relentlessly down from the sky and pale mist does not devour the horizon. Yet she weeps. *She falls to her knees as her hands move ravenously toward what once was her friend. They encounter no resistance, the raging inferno of his soul is but a placid pond now. Panic hinders her movement as she shakes in terror. Then she grasps something. It is a minuscule spark, but it's still burning.
Searing pain engulfs her, but she is not shaking anymore. Her hands slowly retract. Her fists are clenched around the spark. She can feel its physical manifestation now: it's a small molten pebble. Her body screams, urging to let go, and yet she brings it closer to her chest. Agony soars with her every movement but she does not stop. As her tears begin to fade into white mist, panic flares again in her heart. Her time is running out.
With one last movement, fueled by desperation, Livia's hands reach her heart. A ravenous void welcomes Hirk's soul, howling hungrily, surrounded by a vile and grotesque amalgamation of countless souls. It tries to reject Hirk's molten essence. It struggles and shrieks, but in the end the chorus of screams hushes. Only silence remains, as the lone girl fades once again, devoured by pale mist. She is no longer weeping. A tiny molten pebble stands defiant where her soul once stood, keeping the hungering void at bay. As her consciousness wanes, a faint smile appears on her lips. Nothing will ever deprive her of Hirk's warmth.*

2024.05.28 19:27 gofaaast What if my club player wants more of a challenge, how do I find the right club?
We just went through an extensive process to change clubs and I came here often to get tips. I thought this summary may help families in competitive U10-U13 soccer evaluate changing soccer clubs. I hope this is useful -- and please ask questions, I'm happy to answer and edit.
The
official process is to go to a club’s tryout and hopefully get an offer, but that is a tiny window to evaluate the player and club. With 5-10 clubs in our area this can become unmanageable on schedules and the kids themselves. Also the clubs are unable to get a good look at players when there are 80+ players across many age groups on a couple of fields during the weekend tryouts.
What I've see is there is an
unofficial process that you need to work harder to figure out. I think the unofficial process is about getting to know the club in general (how they communicate, coaching style, parent community, etc.). It also lets the club see your child’s current status in a lower stress environment. The challenge is that club players usually sign a contract that says you will not play with another team during the season (but can get “released” if they ask). Here is my advice on how to change clubs based on my recent experience with U13 soccer in a large metro.
In our area the official tryout weekend is usually in early May, but I recommend to start much earlier if you are thinking about MLS next, ENCL, NPL types of competitive soccer teams.
December-February
- Evaluate current team: discuss reasons to change clubs within your family and with your son/daughter. Discuss time commitment, coaching, travel, and costs.
- Evaluate the website of all area clubs: they will outline their program and give you the history and best version of their program. It is the ideal version of the club.
- Do not worry about the team standings: their most recent performance is tempting to look at, but don’t overanalyze a couple of wins or losses. If a club is winning all their games it may indicate a good program, but players and coaches change too.
- Identify parents who are on the clubs you are interested in: Bring up club soccer to a few friends, classmates, neighbors, etc. and ask for an intro to learn more about coaches and the club in general.
March
- Attend a couple of games: look at the online schedule for the clubs you are evaluating and find a game or two in the next 6 weeks. It’s best to see an actual game to estimate if the skill and speed is right for your child. Bring your kid to the game as well – they can see what “higher” level actually means. It’s OK if the play seems like a stretch, you are watching game speed.
- Pick 2 clubs to focus on: Logistics matter, so prefer clubs that practice near you and have the level of soccer you are interested in (NPL, ECNL, MLS next). If you have lots of options, start with just a couple to learn more about; it is early so you can add/change your focus.
- Talk to coaches: start with an email, but get on the phone with a coach. Explain your current team and why you are looking around. Ask to attend a couple of practices. Many clubs are happy to bring in players. It shows commitment (extra practices) and they see how coachable the player is. Some clubs will not allow this, but asking is still important.
April
- Attend 2-5 practices for 2-4 clubs: This can be a lot of extra work for your kid. These practices are helpful for both sides to interview each other. The coach will begin to think about positioning, talents, and areas to work on. Getting to know players and coaches on a practice field is low pressure but a great way to compare status.
- Ask for feedback: It’s ok to seek first-impressions from the coach. If you are targeting a specific level, ask if your player is a good candidate. The reality of club soccer is that many kids will be told they are able to play for the highest team. This is not always true, so get details where you can and be flexible.
- Communicate with your current club: It is worthwhile to tell your current coach that you are looking at other clubs. They may not be happy about it, but it will drive a good discussion about what you think your player needs and could be a reality check.
- Communicate with your teammates: If you have close friends on the team, it's ok to bring up changing teams with them (but it wasn't easy for us). These parents usually want the best for the kids so they can discuss the tradeoffs, but it can be difficult discussion in some cases.
- Network and talk with parents at your top clubs: Learn about the history of the coach, team, and other families. There is always some background about why people like/dislike a part of the club so try to separate that person’s option from the situation.
May
- Ask your top choices for more details about tryouts: If you know them already they could give you clear info about which team they want you for. They are also likely to tell you to skip the cattle call tryouts if you are a good candidate for a top team.
- If required attend the public tryouts: If you have a top choice but don’t have an offer, attend and show them how you operate and play in a new situation. Parents should meet more folks at the club. The head of the club is nice to meet, but also meet multiple coaches.
- Prepare to attend additional tryouts the week or two after the public tryouts: Top teams will bring a select group of candidates in for more tryouts. These tryouts can feel higher stress than anything done in April. Do your best to focus on having fun and playing loose, most importantly be ready to be coached. Kids that are ready to get feedback are good additions to any team.
- Evaluate offers: the team and coach are the most important, but the club (communication, resources, history) can also drive your experience. The offer needs to be for a specific team. Learn about practice commitments, tournaments, costs. Ask about where the coach sees your son/daughter for position and biggest developmental needs. You will get the most communication at this stage from coaches, so ask questions.
- Do not evaluate the teammates: This one is hard, kids will want to know who’s on the team to think through positions and camaraderie (if you’ve been doing tryouts they may have made some friends already). It’s great when you know players that have accepted their offers, but waiting for all the pieces to be in place is risky. Players change so finding the ideal teammates is difficult. In some cases clubs can pull an offer if they need to.
- Do not rush: If you’ve done your homework (talking to parents, meeting coaches, etc.) do not jump on an offer just because there is a deadline. Many teams are making offers later and later. Sleeping on a decision is important since you should be ready to spend a lot of time (and money) with this club. They want a full squad committed ASAP, but follow up with parents and coaches so that the tradeoffs are clear and not overlooked.
- Follow up: Coaches are evaluating lots of kids and trying to build a full squad. If you get an offer you are not going to take, send a text to the club and tell they you are passing on it. You may end up trying out for the same club in a year, they are much happier to talk with you in the pre-tryout phase if your last contact was a nice “thank you”. You will also see these coaches in other places over the years.
Lastly, make sure you have regular two-way discussions with your kid. They need guidance and hear about the pros and cons of competitive soccer. They should have a significant input into the process and can learn a lot about how they like to be coached, compete, celebrate, and enjoy the game. It’s invaluable to learn how to invest in what you love – and to not only think there is only one “best” team. At this stage a good coach and a lot of good competition is critical if they want to play for many years.

Maybe this is recency bias, but I really do think Charlie played pretty easily the best newbie game we've seen of the new era and probably beyond. I think Charlie vs Tommy is pretty close. To be honest, I probably lean Tommy, but if he beats that, I think he played better than anyone from 37 or 38.
Charlie played the way I always have thought is exactly how the game should be played. He didn't chase big moves, but he made the proper moves at the right time, taking out big threats at the right time, and was really never in any danger. He was driving pretty much every vote he was a part of. And he did all this, and no one felt backstabbed.
Charlie's ability to manage his threat level was RIDICULOUS. People can cite Jesse from 43 as an elite game from the new era, and I agree. But, what separates Charlie's game, is no realized how elite his position was until it was too late. If not for an extremely bitter jury, and irrational voting logic, Charlie wins this season. I don't think you can fault Charlie for Maria voting based off "the fire in Kenzie's eyes," Q voting for who needs it more, and Tiffany cutting him off, trying to sway the jury at every opportunity she got.
I'm not discrediting Kenzie's win, even though I completely disagree with the jury logic, I do support the concept of every winner deserves their win. And I do understand the edit shows us at most half of what happens. But Charlie played the game I always have fantasized playing. Played the middle with a true number 1 premerge, continued to play the middle as his number 1 took all the credit, hide behind their threat until the end game and taking them out is easy due to their threat level, and then take credit at the end. I just think its the perfect survivor game. I just don't think in this era, it is possible to have a win like JT's or Kim's anymore, because of the "big move" era and the shortened, fast pace game. So, I really do think Charlie's game was a masterclass.
That being said, I don't need him back for 50. Give me Q. Give me Venus. Give me drama.

2024.05.28 19:21 The-Good-Murloc Should I be using 5E or MnM?
I’m still in the early stages of planning a superhero based campaign. I have the overarching setting planned out and my future players are down with it. We’re all familiar with 5e and only I have looked at the Mutants and Masterminds material. Now one might think that MnM would be the way to go, but hear out the setting first as there’s pros and cons to both systems.
There’s a world where everyone is born with superpowers (a la MHA). Some choose to be heroes, villains, or just live out civilian lives. Most villains adhere to a no-killing rule as that would mean the heroes would go all out once that happens (some unhinged ones will cross the line). Powers are categorized between Alphas and Betas (sounds like a YA novel already). Alphas have normal powers. Your Hulks, Bakugos, Flashs (scaled down to building-level threats, no one’s breaking any time barriers or nuking cities without preparation). Betas are those with some sort of downside. Maybe they need a condition to activate their powers like closing eyes to hear better or flight on rainy days. Or maybe their powers are just an inferior version of existing Alphas like a pilot light on your finger vs Zuko. The legal heroes are within into an overarching organization that pay individuals or teams for their hard work. Alphas are more prevalent in this line of work but there are a few Betas, even one in the top team.
The party is a newly formed group of Beta-powered super heroes. They’re going to delve into secret lairs and conspiracies within the hero organization. They rely on their fists and their wits as their powers can only take them so far. But since they’re so low on the totem pole, they have to manage their day jobs to maintain income or take sponsorship deals like using a certain brand of gadgets or footwear.
So here’s the deal. With 5e, it’s pretty much going to be limiting the players to non-Magic classes (Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Rogue, maybe Paladin, Ranger, and Artificer). There are some gadgets available to help them (goggles of night vision, grappling guns, etc.) but reflavoring a Cleric is too much. My players are willing to do this. This is also a system we are very familiar with and I am comfortable home brewing balanced things. It will probably run from Level 1-10 at the most.
MnM is more if the players want to be the Alphas. Powers are more ingrained into their toolkits. Sure there are some Batmans in MnM but that’s everyone picking another limited pool of “classes.” We are also less familiar with the system. I get that there are the “Complications” mechanic, but it’s difficult to strip them down to low powered enough that they aren’t Starfires. From looking at it, we would be limited to Battlesuit, Crime Fighter, Gadgeteer, Martial Artist, Weapon Master. My players are apprehensive towards a new system especially with all this new terminology. They are willing to try to make this system work but don’t look forward to having to stumble through a new system, wait a month in between, and then stumble again.
Tl;dr I’m having trouble decided whether to use 5e or MnM for my campaign idea which is weak superheroes in a superhero world (building-level threats).
Some extra tidbits: I chose Alphas and Betas because I had a stupid idea, what if we focused on the superheroes who can’t pay the bills for their lair and really need their daytime jobs as Amazon drivers. And thus the pun Beta Mail arrived like a fart from a corpse. Some hero powers were like teleportation but only when no one can see you (object permanence), can maintain your speed to fly in any direction (this guy runs and then flies, falls, and then flies faster), your skin is like sandpaper (she’s single).
EDIT: I think this is important. We don’t meet that regularly. Like 1-2 months in between sessions. My players and I are worried about the new system because we’re going to forget everything in between and get a lot of terminology confused like Advantage means something different in either. There’s the benefit of stumbling through the first sessions before getting to the meat of it, but that stumbling will probably take a year.

[SFX: The door getting kicked lightly open]
[Your older brother, Nate, and his best friend of many, many years trudge in, crating trays of food]
“Clear the way, brisket coming through! Anyone who disturbs her path will know my wrath, or whatever…”
[Pause!]
[He makes eye contact and you both sneer. Still, he makes a beeline toward you]
[SFX: Grumpy himbo parting the Party Sea]
“There’s the host with the most… problems hiding their anxiety, hehe. Pfft, about time I actually got to set sights on your dumb face.”
[Pause!]
“Yeah, yeah. ‘It’s my first time hosting a party, be supportive!’. I’m here, I brought a shit ton of food from the restaurant, so don’t get started. Relax, actually ENJOY your first party, Nerd.”

[He rolls his eyes but smiles]
“Oohh, ‘love you, too’? Well, butter me up, why don’t you? Quit while you’re ahead, Nerd. I’m favored out, ain’t no way I’m hanging out after to help with dishes and shit.”
[Pause.]
[He folds his broad arms and smirks]
“I am an asshole, yes. Why did you ask about drinking, though?”
[Pause?]
“Ohh, you were going to offer to let me stay over so I could relax, huh? … Mmh. I am really good at shooting myself in the foot, huh?”
[Pause??]
[He laughs]
“Maybe if I had been nice the decade we’ve known each other? My goodness, so spicy tonight. The survivor adrenaline kicking in to counter your introverted flee instincts must be giving you a bit more nerve than usual. Tell you what? You focus that into charming the lovely folks arriving, and we can argue later when you’re setting out a sleeping bag for me next to your bed?”

[He laughs again]
“Ohh, Heavens, I know. I am King Bastard, King of all Bastards, with high Dominion over the Archangel of BASTARDOM!”
[Pause.]
“Hmhm… I hope you enjoy the party as well, Nerd! I’m going to go get obliterated on that whiskey, thank you very much for your hospitality!”

[SFX: Fade out into party ambiance > Stretch for as long of a [Pause] as VA desires]
[Time seems to fly as you do your best not to collapse into an introverted black hole. It’s your first party, you’re determined not to fail. You’re sure at LEAST five hours have passed when you decide to call it]
“Hm? You heading upstairs already, Nerd?”
[Pause…]
“Uh… It’s ten…”
[. . . ]
“...It’s OK. Nate and I will finish things up. I’ll make sure to save you a plate of brisket and fixings.”
[Pause <3]
[He rolls his eyes and shoos you off]
“Go on. Go to bed. I’ll try not to make too much noise when I come to bed. Please, for my sake, make sure the path to the sleeping bag is clear, hm?”
[Before you can retort, he affixes you with an intense stare, knocking the words out of your brain. His voice is just as intense for his next sentence before he goes back to his normal gruffness:]

[He laughs]
“Pfft, your face. Go to bed. Don’t make me chase you up there.”
[. . . ]
[You shake the confusion off enough to trudge upstairs, resisting the urge to lock your door from the inside as you prepare the sleeping bag, crawl into bed, and promptly pass out]
[SFX: Either fade out muffled party ambiance with / without acting out the above in SFX]
[Fade Out]

[SFX: The bed shifting to the Speaker’s weight/the blanket reacting in kind]
[You barely remember falling asleep. You’re still barely awake. That’s why it takes you a moment to realize you have acquired a cuddle buddy, of sorts. He’s slipping into bed behind you, cuddled up as though it’s a normal event]
“Mmmh…:”
[. . . ?]
“Mmh…? Nnh, go back to sleep, sweetie…”
[... Pause.]
[You roll over to look at him in disbelief. His eyes aren’t even open]
“Mmmh warm…”
[P-Pause…]

[He somewhat slurs it together but the ‘baby’ makes you stop. Flabbergasted]

“Shh… I’ve got you… You rest, you did a good job with your little party. Oh my god it was so cute, you’re so cute when you’re freaking out but acting through it.”
[Pause????]
“M’ feeling fine… Just dunk. Drunk. D-R-U-N… drunk…”

“I am a very affectionate dunk, yes… Mmh, you feel really nice to hold… S’ not fair, you know? Always walking around in those shorts, pasty-ass Nerd legs just reflecting the sun and such… Your brother says he’ll kick my ass if I go after you, you know…”
[Pause…?]
[SFX: A slight snore from him]
[Pause????]
“Nuhhh… Ahm not that asleep… I love you…”

[Amused, you tousle his hair a little bit and play along]

[He tries to kiss you but it sort of just lands on your chin before he curls right back up in his supernatural coma]
[P-Pause…]
[You’re somewhat pinned under him…. And the party still somewhat rages downstairs. You can’t decide which is theoretically worse - someone opening the door or him waking up and realizing what he’s said…]
[SFX: Fade out on the slightly muffled party ambiance]

One thing I notice is the constant confusion over terms that have naturally become part of my vocabulary over time through my progression from fanfiction fandom addict to spicy book connoisseur. I thought having a comprehensive list of all the terms and acronyms sprinkled throughout the book community would be nice. Here it is:

OMD: Other Man Drama. A plot device or storyline in romance novels where the primary romantic relationship is threatened or complicated by the presence of another man. May be an ex-boyfriend, a current partner, or someone who is vying for the attention and affection of one of the main characters.

Omegaverse: A subgenre of fiction where the world has a dominance hierarchy dividing humans (or shifters/monsters) into dominant Alphas, neutral Betas, and submissive Omegas. This hierarchy often determines romantic and sexual interactions, characterized by elements like heats, knots, imprinting, and mpreg.
Alpha: Dominant, physically built, and often short-tempered leaders. Can impregnate Alpha, Beta, and Omega females and Omega males.
Beta: Usually normal humans or characters with unique traits, varying by story.

Cinnamon Roll: An excessively kind, sweet, and cute character.
Sinnamon Roll: A kind and sweet character who exhibits strong sexual tendencies.
Book Boyfriend: A character you could see yourself dating in real life.
Instalust: Immediate, intense physical attraction between characters, often leading to quick sexual involvement.
Spicy: Intense physical attraction and activities in romance books, usually with 3-5 open-door sexual encounters.
Spice Level (Heat Level): A ranking system for sexual content in books:
- Clean: Innocent, a few kisses at most.
- Sweet: At least one closed-door scene.
- Sensual: At least one open-door scene with euphemistic language.
- Erotic: Explicit scenes, at least two intimate acts with varied sexual content.
- Pornographic: Numerous explicit scenes with adventurous acts throughout.
Sub-genre: A subdivision of a more prominent genre.
The Feels: An overwhelming emotional reaction.
Book Hangover: The feeling of being unable to stop thinking about a book after finishing it, causing symptoms like headaches, daydreaming, and tiredness.
Reader Slump: When reading becomes mentally and emotionally exhausting, it is also known as reader burnout.
Buddy Read/Readalong: Reading the same book with someone else simultaneously to discuss it together in real time.
Reading Challenge: Setting a goal to read several books within a specific time frame.
Mates: Characters destined to be together, often requiring a ritual to solidify their bond.
Mpreg: Male pregnancy.
