Decided to post another AITA question that's been bothering me for months. Not much else to do while cooped up at home. Father to four lovable pooches. (Sorry. Need an extension on my pet tax. iPhone is broken and all five of the closest Apple stores near me are closed. It sucks.)
Let a friend of mine stay over for a few days in December after her neighbor flooded the unit above her. Lots of water. Lots of damage. Lots of insurance headache. First thing I did was give her a copy of my "Dog Manual". Basically a page or two with what not to do, contact numbers for me/SO/vet, instructions for care, all that gobbledy-gook. All I wanted her to remember was the What Not to Do section and the What to Do in an Emergency section. Highlighted it in bright pink for her. Came back from the store with SO one afternoon to her on the couch watching TV and feeding my middle child Stitch a chocolate-covered raisin. I freaked out and took him to the vet immediately while SO stayed to watch the others. Lost my cool and yelled at her when I got back from the vet. Cursef like a sailor. Packed up her things for her and told her she needs to leave. It's not like she didn't have a home. Her insurance offered a hotel stay while her apartment was being dried out and the unit above being fixed. She called her adjuster and got a hotel for free within an hour. I called and paid for a taxi to take her. She argued with me while waiting. Claimed I didn't tell her. I pointed out that my Dog Manual has in bright red letters at the top under What Not to Do a list of things not to feed them. Chocolate was number one. Grapes/Raisins was number four. She says I'm being unreasonable and that it's just a dog. We're no longer friends. Am I the asshole?
TL DR Ex-friend wanted to crash at my place. Gave her detailed instructions about what not to do with my dogs. She didn't follow directions. Almost poisoned my dogs. Caused me to pay a fortune for an emergency vet visit. I threw her out. She says I'm being unreasonable. AITA?
