Dry nasal passages on accutane
2024.05.02 13:00 Potential-Style-1444 Dry nasal passages on accutane
Hey guys, I am taking low dose accutane 20mg 3 times per week at the moment but my nose is sooo dry, itchy and sore. Any tips? I have been using nasal spray, drinking lots of water, vaseline around outer nostrils but still annoying. Lip dryness, weirdly, not an issue at all.

2024.05.02 02:55 Inuzuka_pound What I did and learned from my Baby Moon on Oahu Island, Hawaii, at 28 weeks at the end of April....
What I learned: - I read that bugs, especially mosquitoes, would be a problem and to get bug spray when there. They were pretty much non-existent and not an issue.
- Buy a handheld fan to keep yourself cool. Had it not been so pleasantly windy while I was there I would say yes to this, but I didn't need it.
- You really don't need to rent a car unless you despise taking a bus. 808 Smart Car rentals was amazing for the 2 days we wanted one, but otherwise everything was walkable or close to a bus stop.
- Air BnB has WAY better deals on rooms than going through hotels or comparison websites. Air BnB even has listings for privately owned rooms in some hotels; we stayed in a privately owned room at the Bamboo Waikiki Hotel and it was amazing.
- Being a slightly paranoid person and in a lesbian relationship, I was very concerned about safety when I learned how common car break-ins and theft are and that every place we looked at staying mentioned locked entry and 24hr security. At no point did I or my wife ever feel unsafe.
- I was advised to not try hiking as a pregnant person. I hiked and was fine. I did buy a small folding stool so I could sit whenever I wanted to and that was very nice. I saw plenty of children, elderly, over-weight, and some handicapped people on each of the 3 hikes we did.
- I was told Waikiki (we were staying on Kuhio Ave) was going to be very crowded and loud at night. It was not on either point. We had no reservations going on this trip and, once there, were able to look at the available reservations and build our days around them.
- Bring a variety of shoes. I brought running/everyday shoes, hiking shoes, sandals, and water shoes.
- Also bring and wear any support garments; belly bands, support tank tops, compression socks, sciatic belt, braces for weak knees or ankles, etc.
- If you have access to a hot tub and/or pool, make time to alternate soaking your legs between the two before bed. It's no Nordic Spa, but it will help relax your muscles. Also make time for foot/back rubs for both yourself and your partner!
- Plan to travel light or ask your partner to be the one carrying the things you're carrying that day. All I had to worry about was my phone and the folding stool, my wife carried everything else. She was the very best! ♡ ♡ ♡
What we did: - Day 1: walked around Waikiki, the aquarium, and the zoo. Watched the sunset on Waikiki Beach.
- Day 2: bussed to and hiked Diamond Head (let in at 9am with 1pm reservations we had made at the ticket gate). Probably the hardest hike we did, it had the roughest path and a few portions with long flights of stairs and a point where I had to crawl in a squat through a narrow gap to do the full loop, but with my stool and plenty of hand rails/my wife to hold onto it was fine. Then we walked to Queen's beach to eat lunch. Bussed over near Magic Beach for a Sunset Swim and Sail Cruise with Pink Sails (booked after lunch), but our reservation was actually for the next day, lol. Watched the sunset at Magic Beach instead.
- Day 3: rented a car (made the reservation the night before) and drove to Dole Plantation where we walked the Botanical Garden and the Maze. The we drove to and hiked Waimea Falls; this hike had the least rest stops of all the hikes, but my stool took care of that problem. Then we drove to Shark's Cove and Turtle Bay Resort and walked some tide pools. Finished the day driving around the coast back to Waikiki. We weren't going to make the Pink Sails reservation, but we called and were able to reschedule it to the Friday Night Fireworks Cruise instead.
- Day 4: bussed to and toured Pearl Harbor (reservations made for this the day before). Pearl Harbor had a strict no bags policy unless it was a small clear bag. It also claimed to have plenty of rest areas and be accessible. There were benches/garden walls outside to sit on, but seating inside the museums was non-existent. If we planned our time better we would have been able to tour the USS Missouri, but that closed earlier than other sights and the USS Arizona, USS Bowfin, the Pearl Harbor Museum, and the Submarine Museum were more than enough to fill the day. Definitely eat at Restaurant 604, and maybe make reservations for it. The food was great and, even though we walked in, were sat and eating within 15 minutes! We even were allowed to order drinks at the bar while we waited. My calves and feet swelled the most by the end of this day, idk why, but they were fine the rest of the trip.
- Day 5: finally went to the beach! We stayed behind the wave breakers at Waikiki Beach for the morning. Then we bussed to Ala Moana Mall and spent the rest of the day there. Texas De Brazil, if you've never heard of it, was an amazing diner choice!
- Day 6: rented a smart car again (reserved 1.5hrs before they opened) and drove to the Fisherman's Shrine right before Haloma Blow Hole and also explored around Haloma Blow Hole. Then we drove to Makapu'u Light House Trail and hiked that. This trail had the most rest areas (which was great because I lost my stool some time between day 3 and this day), but no shade or bathrooms. Then we drove to the Byodo-In Temple and walked its grounds. Drove the H3 highway back to Magic Beach for some more wave breaker beach time, then did a 90min walking Ghost Tour of Honolulu by Mysteries of Hawaii (reservations made the night before).
- Day 7: another morning at the beach that got drizzled out so we enjoyed the resort pool for the rest of the morning. Then we bussed to and toured I'olani Palace (reservations made a few days ago); they had some seating in pretty much every room which was much appreciated since I lost my stool. We bussed back to Ala Moana Mall to kill an hour at the Lucky Strike Arcade, then walked to the docks for our Fireworks Cruise with Pink Sails.
- Day 8: bussed to the Bishop Museum, then bussed back to Waikiki to walk around the International Mall and go to the Cat Cafe there. Then we went back to our room to pack up before one more visit to Waikiki Beach where we saw and swam with sea turtles! Then we bussed to the airport and our baby moon was over.

2024.05.01 20:21 muffyrohloff At home spray tan automated machine
Does anyone have a mystic or versa spa spray tanning machine at their residence? Is it possible to buy one directly from the manufacturer? I've been getting spray tans regularly since before 2008 and would love to save myself the trip of driving to a salon.
NOTE: I am not interested in the manual spray tan machines that require another person to assist. Thanks!

2024.05.01 10:55 Bubbly-Branch-2781 Nose Piercing before accutane.
Hey. I got my nose pierced in November 2 months before taking 10mg Accutane in the beginning of January. I didn’t notice any changes once I started the accutane course apart from an irritation bump forming during the early months. That went away once I changed my piercing to a gold one in the beginning of April of this year.
I had no idea you weren't supposed to get piercings whilst doing accutane and found out recently. Im super worried now. Its almost been 7 months and my piercing hasn't healed yet. And also my piercing sometimes leaks this white transparent looking discharge (sorry gross ik). Im not sure if its pus because my piercing isn't hot, swollen or red, I don't think its infected but then again I'm not sure. It doesn't hurt either.
I've been cleaning it with NielMed spray twice a day and I make sure not to touch it as much as I can. Im currently on 30mg and I have an appointment with my derm soon, and ill be sure to bring it up but other than that does anyone have any advice, or experience? 😭😭😭😭

2024.04.30 19:49 turnybutton Pals, please help me make some clothing decisions about my Montréal packing list for next week!
I'm headed to Montréal for six days next week! It will be my first time there and I'll be working for most of the time, but I will also have plenty of time for walking around a ton and seeing things and eating things and possibly the Bota Bota spa. Unfortunately, as of right now rain is forecast on my two days "off" but I'm sure it will still be fun.
Currently it's predicted to be highs of 65F/18C and lows of 49F/9C. Partly cloudy or rainy.
I've done a test pack in both my new Tomtoc 28L Navigator (SQUEE!) and an Osprey Perigee (29L, thrifted, a broken zipper pull but I MacGyvered something for now) and I think everything fits, but I could use some help deciding on clothes!
Right now I'm thinking:
2 dresses:
- a Blue Illusion knee-length merino wool dress
- a super lightweight cap sleeve black skater dress, plus a pair of Snag merino wool tights for both.
2 pants (
choose 2 of these four options):
- medium wash blue jeans (to wear on plane both ways to save space)
- Old Navy sleek tech black joggers (they are not warm but they dry quickly)
- Old Navy high-rise wide-leg quick dry dark blue pants
- Black Allbirds leggings
3 tops (
choose 3 of these):
- lavender Athleta Hanover sweater (merino blend, long sleeves)
- loose black t shirt
- fitted crop top in orange or black and white stripes (only if I bring the ON pants)
- dark blue linen/cotton short-sleeve sweater
- thin merino sweater in red or purple
My packable rain jacket is gray, if that helps! I'll bring white leather sneakers that have been treated with water-resistant spray and maybe flip-flops and a bathing suit if I go to the spa. I want to have my black boots AND my white sneaks but I probably don't need both.
What do you think?? What seems like it would work well/be weather-appropriate? I'm a thousand years old and somehow never know how to dress for any temperature that's not freezing or boiling :D

2024.04.30 04:47 KingReyy7 Feeling Overwhelmed and Overworked.
Feeling overwhelmed and I need to quit my job. I work at a chain spa and the management is absolutely awful.
The management is awful and I have thought of reporting them but I haven’t yet. First we are given 2-3 minutes to clean between clients. I dont even have to go into detail but 2-3 minutes to clean is almost impossible. It’s not even enough time to wash my hands, let alone clean and sanitize my work area. Also most times that time gets taken up by clients asking more questions after the facial and I feel like i am not allowed to properly help clients because Im rushing to start cleaning and moving on to the next client. Btw, for example I sometimes see 10-15 clients a day.
Management also only has Isopropyl Alcohol for us to clean with. Which we get instructions to add 1/3 of that alcohol to the spray bottles and fill the rest with water. I feel like that i not sanitizing and cleaning properly and It feels gross to me. I wouldnt get a facial there because of the practices that I have seen. The management constantly complains about us using to much of the products and we are not allowed to use sunscreen on clients, only of the client received a peel. No sunscreen for a regular facial feels criminal to me. Working here makes me feel awful about myself and this isnt the way I want to be apart of the industry. I want to help clients but its pushed back to back , upsell and upsell and it sucks. I have made my decision, I already have started looking for other jobs because I feel as if i cant do this anymore. I feel like this company needs to be reported for other reasons also.

2024.04.26 21:55 Sychar Amateur Mini Review of Prisma Parfums
First off for those who don't know, Prisma Parfums is an independent niche perfumery run by Isaac Hilton. He was the original perfumer of City Rhythms, but splintered off due to some disagreements with the direction of the company/artistic vision with the owner. His first line of parfums so far are the original formulation City Rhythm releases, which I will label below so you know which is which.
Ordering experience: I don't live in America so I had to order manually through email contact. Isaac was very easy to order from directly, and was very prompt with estimates and shipping. He had a plethora of payment options, and briefly mentioned that Canadian purchasing through his website wasn't operation *yet*. Giving me hope it will be officially supported soon. My package ended up getting mis-delivered by UPS, and when I brought it to his attention he immediately re-shipped my order with some samples. All around great customer service.
Bottles:
50ml Bottle - Very nice glass bottle, with the logo laser etched onto it's surface. Excellent pressurized atomizer, uses a heavy magnetic cap that is super satisfying to take on and off (Identical in function to Dior caps).
11ml Bottle - Once again, very nice glass bottle. Also uses a pressurized atomizer. Simple travel spray cap.
2ml Sample - What you'd expect.
Scents: I ended up getting and entire bottle of Zircon (2654), a 11ml travel spray of Jasper (New Orleans) and a 2ml sample of Topaz (Miami) (Both free for my trouble with shipping).
Zircon (CR 2654): It's a super creamy, lightly sweet and fruity scent with a lot of smooooth coconut. It has an even smoother dry down into a nice spicy, warm, boozy vanilla. Super smooth and creamy scent, ridiculously pleasant and easy to wear. The feelings it gives me is like you’re having freshly made coconut rum cocktails at a beach, and you’re basking in the sun with a super pleasant vanilla sun tan lotion on. Incredibly easy to wear summer scent. It has you coming back for more. It also has some crazy longevity and projection. Easily lasts 8+ hours on my skin, and I could still smell it after scrubbing it off (Not that you'd want to, I just had to test it).
Topaz (CR Miami): Topaz is fairly similar to Zircon (As intended). It's a lot sweeter (not over-poweringly so), much more coconut, and a much warmer and cozier dry down. I'm not sure what the note is, but something in this scent is super intoxicating and sexy, might be musk? It’s smells like beautiful day at a luxury spa with your significant other when on vacation somewhere tropical, and you’re drinking cocktails in between massages and foot rubs.
Jasper (CR New Orleans): Now jasper, oh Jasper. This scent was a dark horse. Straight off the rip it's a super boozy sour cherry, with a lot of rose (in a good way). The sour cherry and the rose go together so well it's hard to describe. I usually hate rose and I LOVE this. Depending on how you dress and wear the cologne, you can either use the boozy cherry as a super sexy clubbing scent, or the tangy cherry rose as a super classy date night scent. Both notes are so constantly present, I think people will interpret it purely on how they perceive you. It's a bouquet of fruitiness, lots sweetness and tartness. The rose and cherry pair so perfectly and they elevate each other into stardom. Perfect for a classy date night or special event, or a high energy night out. And it caters perfectly to how you present yourself.
All in all I'm super impressed with everything so far, and will definitely be buying a bottle of Topaz and Jasper eventually.

2024.04.26 17:37 Ilovecatsforlife739 What do you do when you feel suicidal and your getting no support.
I’m 15, I started getting homeschooled when I was 12 in 2021, I liked it at first as I was very very anxious in school and had a hard time making friends, all my friends from primary left and got new groups so I was alone.
I’ve been suicidal since I was 12, I’ve never liked myself, I feel ugly and I’m not good at anything.
Lately it’s my sisters confirmation soon, this has just showed me how much they prefer her and it’s making me feel sick, all I got for my confirmation in 2021 was a outfit, and €50 (keep in mind I am grateful for it).
I didn’t care as they said that’s all a child should get anyway I said okay, I didn’t really care after that, my sister on the other hand is being taken to get her nails done, spray tan, hair, manicure, spa and hotels and concerts 😐, this moment they decided to do this is especially irritating as lately they said they couldn’t afford my dental work.
I’m not jealous im just angry because they said they can’t afford my teeth filled, but yet they can afford all that..? Yeah.
I wanted to go back to school to do TY in September so I’d get out of the house most of the day, but I don’t know with how my teeth are and my looks, and when I’d go back I’d have no friends I don’t know.
Honestly my head has been pushing towards suicidal thoughts more lately, I’ve been feeling terrible about myself, I don’t know what to do.

2024.04.25 12:51 WestofWherever Product suggestions please!
| Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any good product recommendations? I have dehydrated/combo skin. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what I have! I tend to get an oily t zone but also dry patches and when I started looking in to more hydrating products, that was a winner for me! I also have cranial hyper hydrosis which has been under control for a few years with the use of oxybutynin. I have larger pores and little pits on my cheeks. I also have some redness and sunspots that just never seem to go. I have quite thin skin and broken capillaries as well as well as discolouration around my nose and areas on my cheeks. I would love any advice! My skincare goes as follows; AM - Cleanse face with JUST water and a quick use of The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm Toner - NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist (applied quickly after cleansing) Treatment/Serum - I apply what I feel I need more so it’ll be either; Vichy - Hyaluronic Acid Serum Wishtrend - Mandelic Acid Paula’s Choice - BHA Exfoliant Eye serum - Hada Labo Smoothint Anti Fatigue eye cream MoisturiseOil I mix The Ordinary Moroccan Argan Oil with Beauty Pie’s ceramide cream Happy Face (I have never find a moisturiser that either doesn’t sting and feel tacky OR doesn’t dry out on me within seconds) SPF - Issntree wategel SPF 50 PM - The Inkey List - Oat Cleansing Balm x 2 cleanses and exfoliate with flannel/washcloth Toner - NIOD spray (as before) Treatment changes every so often but a few nights a week I apply The Ordinary Argan Oil on to my skin and follow with Cera Ve - Resurfacing Retinol Serum I always get oilier skin the next day after using a retinol as I’m drier, hence applying a barrier in between. I also ‘slug’ under my eyes with aquaphor. submitted by WestofWherever to Skincare_Addiction [link] [comments] |
2024.04.25 05:46 martinisatfive Advice and tips no one asked for 🩷 28 F - 1.5 weeks out
Hi:) 28 F - surgery was 4/16 so 8 days out and feeling really jazzed. I can’t imagine not having this place to come to at 3 AM in pain, so I’m giving back to what gave me so much hope and insight on this peculiar journey!
BENCHMARKS - Surgery was Tuesday 4/16 my day 0. Worst pain of the whole deal were days 5&6 and peaked at night. That’s because that’s when I had scabs falling off! Teaser for 5 and unleashed at 6. - Worst level I would say I got was 7/10 pain. I would cry from my strep throat pain and I never had tears from this. - Only twice did I think this wasn’t worth it (drama. SPOILER!!!!!It was worth it)
TRUNK OF TONSIL TREASURES
Throat-MFn-Spray.: the Oscar trophy should be replaced with Chloraseptic max Sore Throat Max Strength in wild berries because it’s the highest honor to hold this sweet baby. IMPORTANT NOTE: I only did this when my throat was a snow cave of white scabs so no fresh flesh was exposed. I did a test spray on my tongue and then took the leap thinking how could it get worse? And I can just punch the couch thru the pain. To my delight, 15 seconds of marinating, then spitting out into the sink and ommmmmfggggggg angels were singing. This got me off the big pain killers, and I might buy stock just to support the cause (jpjpjp). I can’t say enough how much this changed my journey.
Compression socks: saw a post somewhere on here that was a conversation between some UK redditors and a few Americans scattered and the UK contributors were discussing how long to keep their compression socks on for, they had been given them at surgery and had varying instructions for taking them off/wear time. Americans (like myself) were bamboozled because we just get the flimsy grippy operation socks. After looking into it-and thinking about how much more progressive the EU is with their medicinal practices-I found it to make perfect sense that with the amount of time I’d be spending on my butt, laying down, why wouldn’t I ensure the blood would continue to flow from my trunks up? I need that precious juice to make it back to my neck! Anyway, can’t speak with evidence on this but felt right, wasn’t a huge cost (Amazon, got the color on sale bc who cares), and it didn’t hurt me that’s for sure! I wore for entire first week and few days after :) all day and night :)
Humidifier: around the clock baby. Keep that moisture pumping. We’re all here for wellness feedback, so if you’re looking to make this an investment purchase… Carepod: my humidifier of choice!!! I’ve done the legwork. I did Accutane years ago, live in Minnesota so I deal with dry as bone winters, and have had the crappers from Walgreens up to a Dyson (BIG NO. Leaky, impossible-to-clean-dust out-of-piece-of-junk). Care pod has like… no parts, it’s so easy to clean easy to fill.
Head geaheating pad: A cold and hot system for various times. For basically the entire thing, and even now when I sleep: ice pack head gear with gel ice packs around the neck. keep one set chilling and one in use 🔂 I got ones with open ear holes which was excellent bc I wear glasses, and then when the ear pain came thru at scab time I could hang my heating pad over my head like a bonnet which soothed my aching ears and jaw
Arnica Montana: Potentially a hero, potentially a sham. I will luckily never have to do this again to find out :) got from my naturopathic doctor that I see for allergies and she said take 5 pellets with every dose of meds for swelling, pain, and bruising. They tasted like sugar :) and I had zero swelling or bruising. I can’t prove a thing but think based on the evidence around Arnica… why tf not!
Pedialyte pops: Electrolytes, good tasting, never stung, cold. Blue was best flavor. Found these to be the best option of all cold foods options. Other winners included watermelon, soup, and blueberries
Electrolyte water: mixed two scoops of an electrolyte and salt mixture into freezing cold water every morning (Moon Juice Mini Dew… SO NOM) and also added a scoop of colostrum. Took my morning meds with it, didn’t suck to taste, would do again. I mean I do it everyday, but I think for anyone doing this surgery yes yes yes do.
Bee keepers packets of vitamin C: honey/propolis in general are so on the nose for healing, but the vitamin C packs taken every morning were just to help my body in this fun fight against itself.
Tongue scraper: because it is as bad as they say. Dragon breath. Honestly that feels offensive to dragons. A tooth brush with just water too, lightly. Do it for the people taking care of you.
Mouth Tape: I am not a mouth breather, but sleeping upright* I legit would notice my mouth creeping open. I got the ones with the slit so I could jam my straw (big/thick, never thin and flimsy says doctor) for wa-wa. this made a huge difference for my sleeping! Use your finger to work under the adhesive at removal for a not so faux lip wax removal process. *Sleeping upright, like nearly sitting at a desk upright, was huge for me. I aimed the humidifier at my mug and conked out. I noticed when I tried to go back to side sleeping it was more painful to swallow so I’d shift upright and it would lessen. Just a girls opinion!
Dry brush: because the whole thing is honestly crummy and having some care and means of getting your lymphatic system moving and grooving when you physically are told to avoid moving and grooving is key. It’s doing a lot of heavy lifting on the healing internally, show it a little love and dry brush. You will wanna roll down the compression socks for this 😉
Text to voice app: I stg if my mom asked me one more question…. Get the app, make a few favorite phrases like “feeling ok!” Or bad, “can you get my new ice packs from the freezer”, “wazzzzaaap” no I mean I took it too far because that’s what I do but this was amazing for the two or three days I went mute! Which also suggest doing! No need to add any more fuel to the massive fire going on.
RANDOM FINDINGS
Scabs: Fell off without fanfare. Day 6 I was feeling Kermit the frog voice because they were abundant and crowding up, I could taste them and it, to me, tasted like I had a wad of paper in my throat (ppl who used to eat/suck on paper as kids will get it)
Bleeds: goes hand in hand with scabs… I am a picker!!!! But was such a star and didn’t even touch these bc I didn’t even look. Resist the temptation aside from a quick curious glance, it hurts anyway! So when the scabs fell off it was pretty smooth, no bleeds that I could taste or had to spit and I’m a nose bleed girl so I knooooow that trickle of blood taste.
Eating: 1.5 weeks out and a PB&J still feels a little owie going down, tbh most things have a fiesty kick even with Tylenol, but it’s so bareable and foods not going anywhere so just hang on you’ll be back to a taco in no time and never have to deal with tonsils again!!!!!
Time passer: find a situationship with a hobby. Just a fling, doesn’t need to become your new life’s calling. I played sims like it was my job, started a new show with my mom who just had knee surgery days before me:), renewed my vows with my dog once I could talk again, and became real friendly with Poshmark. Great things I wish I could’ve had the will power to do instead are reading, a craft project, perhaps a puzzle. But just whatever makes you happy and gets you to bedtime!!!!!
Meds: what you’ve heard is true. Timer system. Write it down if you can! It becomes a lot. I had separate columns for each med, directions for duration between doses under the name, then on the left dates with like 8 cells in each day and wrote time taken. Helped when I wanted to set up my alarms too when I got paranoid I’d messed it up
Sleeps: I’m a narcoleptic so this was easy for me, but just sleep as much as you can. 1. You’re not present for the pain and 2. It’s the best thing you can do to heal yourself! Oxy didn’t hurt this. But I know not everyone gets that, just do your best to sleep!
That’s all for now… I’m by no means in the clear but I have to believe I’ve made it out of the trenches. I’ll edit this if I think of other things, or maybe I won’t!!!!! Either way, thank u people who have vulnerably shared their stories and tips up to this point. I needed you and you came thru!!!!!!!! I hope this does that for some other people. And now we’re free of our disgusting tonsils! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX 🍸

2024.04.24 04:14 _tasteslikechemicals Pinprick red dots on arms that blanch w/ poking
| 33F Have had tiny red pinprick dots on arms for months or years, but they seem to have increased lately. They’re mostly on my arms below short sleeve level, with some also on legs. They blanch upon poking with a blunt embroidery needle but don’t blanch as easily after pressing with a finger, and always come back. Info: - mostly vegan diet, sometimes fish - don’t get much sun exposure, can burn easily - no major vices (smoking, drinking) - have been on accutane 3 times, most recent round was over 3 years ago - have been having some overall health issues but have had routine bloodwork as well as an autoimmune panel recently, nothing super concerning - current medications:
- lamotrigine (long term)
- lithium carbonate (long term)
- spironolactone (long term)
- Wellbutrin (long term)
- naltrexone (started 3 weeks ago)
- Zyrtec (long term)
- Allegra (started 4 months ago)
- Trelegy inhaler (4 months ago)
- Astepro nasal spray (4 months ago)
- vitamin D and B complex supplements
All meds including allergy meds are monitored by doctors. I’d appreciate any insight, as googling can get scary. I keep seeing petechiae which can be a sign of something worse, but those seem to not blanch when pressed? Thank you! submitted by _tasteslikechemicals to DermatologyQuestions [link] [comments] |

2024.04.23 16:16 pohltergiest No rest at spa land
| I did not want to get up today, my body felt heavy and my mood sour. Recovery sleep always feels rough when you wake from it. I think my sleeping mat has a leak, another thing to fix. And the biting insects! Spiders, mosquitos, and leeches we've had! Good grief, we both have blood stains on our socks from leeches injecting us with anti coagulants. Gross. No more tromping around in the woods without checking ourselves over. The spider bites, well, let's hope we don't get any rough ones. The ones so far are benign, but maybe there's a reason why Japanese people like to cosplay camping rather than actually do it in conditions more than a sanitized field. As predicted, nobody noticed or cared about us camping, there were so many people sleeping in their cars in the parking lot for that level of hipocracy to occur. Pack up was a little slow on account of the aforementioned sleep interia, but we did get away in decent time. We stopped by a family mart half way to get coffee and use the bathroom again where again someone was banging on my door while I was trying to poop in peace. Sorry grandma, I know you're on a tight schedule between shaming the single grandchild your once verdant gene line produced and tearing into your elected official for not voting to concrete over the last remaining habitat of the keystone species of the local environment, but it's better for everyone if I not rush the process. I'm sure the act of using a convenience store bathroom to poop is a terrible faux pas here, but I'm a wilful bull in the china shop of the delicate niceties of Japanese manners and I don't have a home to go to at the moment. Our destination for the day was the somewhat confusingly named Nagashima spa land, which is not in Nagashima, not a spa (though there is a water park), and it's built on fake land. We were there for roller coasters, and this time we brought anti nausea medication so we could go all day. NSL is located helpfully at the very end of a constructed isthmus with a handy expressway interchange useful for anyone with a car, but useless if you don't. We needed to take a roundabout route on the pleb bridges to access the park. We passed by what we learned to be the largest natural gas power plant in the world, seven colossal stacks towering into the sky. The parking lot of the park illustrated the scale of attendees this place was designed for, which was a metric shit ton. All of which were to arrive by car. Goodbye purpose built metro station, hello car dependency and reinforcement of class divides. Off to a great start. Due to my brain fog, we merely arrived for opening, grandiose opening music already playing in the loudspeakers. A casual entry! Terrible, we should have been hours early for best pick of morning rides. This turned out to be wholly unnecessary as the giant entrance had no lineup. Only one ticket shop was open of the vast line of available windows, a hint as to what was going on in the park. It cost us about $58 per person for the entry and unlimited ride pass, which considering the 12 roller coasters was a steal. We arrived with a number of school groups, further causing wonder at when kids are in class if they're always at the attractions we keep going to. For most of the day, it seemed 90% of the parks attendees were middle or high school aged. We got plenty of looks with our outfits, coloured hair, side shaves and generally being taller than everyone. While there were more rides and of better thrills than at universal studios, this was a no-nonsense old school amusement park. Decorations were sparse, queue lines were just painted iron bars in a labyrinth, areas were delineated with different music rather than their own environment. The food was Japanese favourites with no real frills, and clearly all of the money was used to buy just one more coaster, those beautiful machines of steel and fear. Giant, fast, rough beasts awaited us. We decided a warm up or two was in order before we took on the big boys. We rode first Looping Star, which is a classic steel coaster with a single smooth loop and tight banked turns. This was my favourite of the smaller coasters, it was very smooth, with enough g forces to feel like a proper thrill. Next came the twinned Wild Mouse, only running one side at the moment. A terribly rough ride that works to make you feel like it'll fall apart at any time. We did not return. After some anti nausea meds kicked in, we got in line for Steel Dragon 2000, the signature attraction of the park. A truly massive structure, the coaster spans the entire park and is easily the tallest structure by a wide margin. Waiting was the hardest part, the park infamous for their snail pace of loading and running trains. Seems like park management is more concerned about lawsuits than throughput as staff go over safety rules two or three times, double and triple check every harness point, can't run more cars to load while the other is running, can't let people leave station platforms until everyone has their bags, etc. We saw many times that the infrastructure is in place to greatly increase throughput, but the staff on hand was insufficient to do this. Maybe it's a skeleton crew for a cold cloudy Tuesday, maybe the park isn't pulling enough numbers to keep the lights on for much longer. Either way, the biggest rides were up and running and we were strapped in to the tallest and fastest, crawling up the moderate lift angle quite truly into the sky. I kept my eyes mostly closed and my head back to keep from panicking over the height before we dropped an eternity towards the ground, hurtling at literal breakneck speeds as we kept our heads glued to the seatbacks. With no inversions and only height and speed to work with, the coaster threw us around wide helixes and over many humps, switching from positive to negative vertical G's until I felt like my head was going to pop off. Very much the longest coaster, a great time. We decided to get some lunch after, having had spent an hour on the last ordeal. We got simple katsu curry lunches at a cafeteria style restaurant before heading to the next biggest coaster and one coming highly recommended, Hakugei. This was called a hybrid coaster as it looks like a rickety old wooden coaster, ready to fall apart, but has inversions and outer-g turns that a classic coaster would need high explosives to obtain. Unfortunately it also had an even slower loading pace, a small fraction of the trial queue space nonetheless taking an hour to move to the front. The park had maybe 10% of its capacity, but the lines still moved incredibly slowly. Eventually we boarded the deceptively simple cars and pulled on the lap restraint. Most rides in the park only use lap restraints, adding to the panic. The train skipped out of the station quickly, up the lift and down the hill to a full vertical drop into a half hill top and then a full climb. At the peak a banked turn, but with the heads of the passengers banked to the outside of the turn rather than the inside. Inversions, twists, and a ton of negative G's, this ride was more creative than the others and yet very smooth. 10/10. After this we rode a kiddy coaster that illustrated how kids are bulletproof and adult masses will bruise if you put them in those rides. Then we rode the jumbo viking ship, swinging into near vertical. It was fun seeing the other side full of people shouting at the opposite time as ours, like two opposing sports teams. We rode the jet coaster that was gentle and cute, then we headed over to Acrobat, the second flying coaster we had seen in as many weeks. At the station, we saw an identical dual loading platform as universal studios, showing how much capacity was built into this park that was going unused. I think we just got lucky to visit between the times where there was money to invest in the park and when the dwindling numbers forced rides to be shuttered. Acrobat was a joy, featuring nearly a full loop going from inversion, to lie-flat, to another inversion. I think flying coasters can only go so fast, so they rely on a lot of technical track work, and this one did not disappoint. At one point water jets sprayed up and away as we banked over a shallow pool. Very fun. After, we tried Corkscrew, with the understanding that this was going to be a rough one. The track was not smooth, with many bumps, shifts, and slams as we conquered the double corkscrew path. Not something I want to ride again, but still fun. We decided the 4D inversion coaster was a pure barf fest, as was the heartline twister coaster, both of which ran in a single plane and worked nearly completely on flipping the passengers on one axis or another. No thanks, the meds aren't strong enough. We decided to redo our favourites, doing looping star, Steel Dragon 2000 and Hokugei again in that order. After Hokugei we were feeling like maybe it was one too many and decided to pack it in, the weather turning quite cold and our stomachs not doing too well. We tried to quell them with food, this seemed to fix Bryce up but I felt ill. I didn't want to take more pills when I didn't fully understand the box, so I had no choice but to mount up and bike out. Choosing to sleep at a hotel in central Nagoya, we were going to have to bike a bit over 30km through the sprawl of Nagoya and it's outlying cities. Every 5 or 10 km I would need to stop to try and regain my composure or I would vomit. Stomach acid is not good for bike components, so I wanted to avoid chucking on my bike if possible. The ride was dull, flat land filled with endless sprawl. The same assortment of chain shops, gas stations, and traffic lights for an hour. When we entered Nagoya proper, we saw some nice canals but the rain started up again so we had to forego dinner on the road and press on to our hotel. Eventually we came to a downtown that looked a lot like Fukuoka, tall dull buildings on wide city streets with lots of on-street bike parking. Our hotel is a slightly nicer but still very modest place. We spring the extra 15 dollars a night for a nicer bed this time. Dinner was at Mos burger, which we found passable but ultimately forgettable. Lotteria remains the clear favourite. The burgers were pretty small so we got some snacks and returned home to relax and get some sleep. Tomorrow we go to some very fun museums, so we'll want to be alert for that but also so we can work on waterproofing and cleaning our bikes, two tasks that keep getting kicked down the road. They have to get done! submitted by pohltergiest to RainbowRamenRide [link] [comments] |
