Shaman Enhancement Suggestion

2024.05.17 12:28 migribcun Shaman Enhancement Suggestion

Personal opinion on the class.
We need some class mechanics to be triggered automatically to make it more effective during M+ and Raiding. Right now, the class has AoE limit problems and too many skills to use that originate to many global Cooldowns. Also, the way the talents are, we need a relocation or merge some together. The current shaman talents also allow the possibility for a 2handed weapon use. Frost Death Knight asked the same and it works perfectly, and Shaman would work too.
. New Ascendance skin update
. PvP skill Burrow changed to Shaman Baseline defensive Skill
. Deeply Rooted Elements Talent - should be changed from 7% on each Storm Strike to 4% for each maelstrom consumed
. Hailstorm - Change AoE target limit from 5 maximum targets to 1 extra target for each Maelstrom consumed
. Ice Strike - change from skill on use to passive. Ice Strike passive - if 5 or more Maelstrom Stacks are consumed on a DMG ability, your next Storm Strike / Lava Lash will apply Ice Strike on your target "Charging your 2hweapon/main weapon with ice, dealing moderate Frost damage and doubling the damage of your next Frost Shock cast"
. Wind Fury weapon + Wind Fury Totem - remove from Talented tree to Enhancement Baseline
. Wind Fury Totem talent replacement: Weapon Mastery Talent: Your Storm Strike / Lava Lash and Ice Strike passive ability, can now be used/cast from 2Handed weapons
. Doom Winds Talent Switch placement with Wind Fury Weapon. New Talent added on its old location on treeline - Wind Strike ( passive ) - when your Wind Fury successful hits a target, the Cooldown of Doom Winds is reduced by 1.5 sec
. Elemental Weapons Talent effect change to - Your Flame Tongue and Wind Fury imbue effects on 1handed weapons effect are Double and increase your Frost Fire and Nature damage by 5%
Your Flame Tongue imbue weapon effect on 2handed weapons is double
Your Wind Fury weapon imbue effect on 2handed weapon has 40% chance to occur
. Raging Maelstrom and Overflowing Maelstrom talents should be merged in 1 single Talent
Any thoughts?

2024.05.17 12:20 VarietyDramatic9072 Adi Sankara arguments against buddhism

There are fundamental metaphysical and ontological superiority of the Advaita view over Buddhism. The debates undertaken by Acharya Shankara (Acharya) against Buddhists were on questions of logic, phenomology, ontology and metaphysics. Without superiority of logic and inference, it was not possible to defeat the nihilistic schools of thought like Buddhism. The arguments between Shankara and Buddhists were technical, complex and long-drawn. But I have attempted a simpler version for our understanding of the basic positions of Advaita versus Buddhism (All Schools) in a modern set-up.
[nb. Gautam Buddha (Gotama/Tathagata/Sakyamuni) is one of the greatest reformer of Vedic religion. Though he was a heretic who rejected and discarded the magnificent Vedas; yet his contribution to the Vedic Hindu system is immense. Like, Acharya Shankara, Tathagata Gotama is immensely revered.]
[The Acharya invites a learned Buddhist Monk to a cup of coffee and of course, debate over respective Schools of Thought!]
Acharya: How was your day?
Buddhist Monk: The question is immaterial and irrelevant.
Acharya: Oh! Will you kindly state why do you say so?
Buddhist Monk: The workaday life is just a passing illusion. The so-called “manifold world” of material and mental elements arises solely through the causal co-operation of the transitory factors of existence (Called Dharmas) those depend functionally upon each other. Since, the material and mental universe arises through the concurrence of forces that are not permanent, the so-called World is not permanent. Everything that we call “world” are illusory, momentary. [He lays down the Sarvastivada, or, Sautrantika view of Buddhism]
Acharya: Oh. Heavy fire! Let me rephrase you. So what you are basically saying is that the perceived World is momentary; just an illusion – ever changing, and that there is no permanent essence of anything anywhere of the empirical Universe, be it mental or material, cognitive or non-perceptive.
Buddhist Monk: Yes, that’s the statement. Everything in the empirical world is only a stream of passing Dharmas, which are mere processes - impersonal and evanescent processes. These Dharmas can be characterized as Anatta (Anatma - Bereft of Self), i.e., being without a persisting self, without independent existence. [The Dharma theory of Buddhism]
Acharya: Ok. I get your point of view about momentariness, impermanence and Anatta. May I ask you a very simple question? When you started the sentence “The Question is immaterial and irrelevant” – it was immaterial and irrelevant to whom? What or who is the Subject to whom those perceptions appeared?
Buddhist Monk: (Enraged) To no one in particular. There is nothing more to this alleged (sic) world’s existence than the co-ordinated flux of wide variety of elemental, co-dependent factors (Dharmas), which bring forth collective experience of world-consciousness in individual and universal aspects. So, the perception occurred to some non-existent entity.
Acharya: Ok! Hypothetically accepting your view, tell me Monk, who is the witness to these arising of dependent elements? Who/what is the witness to the flux? Against what the flux is not static? If you are moving in a train at the same speed with another train, you will see both trains as stationary. A perception of speed requires comparison with a stationary object. Likewise, perception of flux requires a changeless object for measure of standard. Who/What is that?
Buddhist Monk: I object! What is the necessity of a Witness? That too, eternal permanent witness?! No way such a thing exists. People die and their trace vanishes, things get broken, Worlds get destroyed – all without leaving trace. Where is permanence?
Acharya: Hold your breath, Holy Monk. A witness is necessary in order to have a cognition of any phenomenon – take the event of your momentariness or flux. A witness can only say something is transitory or momentary. If there is no Witness, who would perceive and who would make a statement?
(This is one of the greatest novel argument of Acharya, his own contribution to logic and metaphysics – “Who is it that who sees and says Everything is impermanent – That entity has to present, existent and permanent”)
Buddhist Monk: If you say there has to be a Witness, who will witness that witness? How would you establish that Witness exists? What you say is wrong because there will be infinite regress. You say a Witness is necessary to claim cognizance. Fine, then tell me, who will say that there is a Witness? Where will this infinite loop end? In your Theory, everything has to be present to make the Witness known. This is nothing but Dependent Origination.
Acharya: Dear Friend, there is no logical necessity (Akanksha) for something to grasp the grasper. The witness stands self-proved. (This is one of the greatest sources of Pramana – Arthapatti as used by the Acharya)
Buddhist Monk: Even if there is any Witness, that entity; material or intellectual will be momentary, ever-changing, always in flux. So, one can’t say there is any witness at all.
Acharya: You seem to insinuate that everything is momentary and transitional – the flux keeps on changing every nano-second, the reality changing every nanosecond just like waves of sea erase the previous impressions in sand made by the preceding wave. So, who is there who perceives and makes this claim that Nothing is permanent?
And, against what standard you measure permanence relative to impermanence? Everything is impermanent relative to what? If everything if temporary, then how would the concept of any sort of permanence even arise? What is the ground for you to stand on? What is the reference point? Against what measuring rod will you judge impermanence?
Monk, Even to say Nothing exists, there has to be a relative plane of Existence. Else against what would you say Nothing exists, if you don’t know what Existence is? And when you say non-being is there – so logically, non-being exists – impermanence is permanently there, you are putting yourself in serious logical snare. Don’t you think by negating everything you are caught in an absurd redux? The entire Theory of Impermanence is erroneous.
Agreed what one sees or perceived is fleeting, transitory. But then how do you create your own locus standi for the transitoriness to be perceived? Who is the witness, the spectator? There has to be One. The primordial ground, the eternal essence, which is at the basis of everything and from which the whole world has arisen (the Brahman of the Upanishads). There is no void, all that exists is Fullness, Brahman. The world is not non-existent (Asat), but it is illusory (Mithya) meaning, it exist, but appears to us other than what is really is because of Ajanan (Ignorance), Avidya (Nescience) and Maya (Illusions).
Buddhist Monk: (Causes digression because there is no reply to this argument) Come on, then where is the proof that there is something permanent, some ever-present continuum?
Acharya: Yes, I will. The answer is in anusmrteh cha [Brahm Sutra - II.ii.25:] meaning “In memory too”. All of us have memories of good experiences, bad ones, many-a-times shared memories. Now let me ask you something Monk. If you say everything is momentary, how do you explain memory? Memory falsifies your entire base. The [Buddhist] doctrine of momentariness must imply momentariness of the perceiver as well as of the perceived, an implication which the phenomenon of memory proves to be wrong and completely false. If both perceived object and the perceiver change, there would be no connect – and there would not be any case for memory! Because the entire scene changes – so every moment Man should rise and ask Who am I? Where am I? If the man who remembers is different from the man who apprehended we would never have such notions as "I saw it." – both ‘I’ (Subject) and ‘it’ (Object) would have changed over the moment. Phenomenon of memory shows that your basic tenets are wrong. The theoretical edifice has been created on a false foundation.(You notice how he brings in the Atman theory (first bolded sentence) indirectly. What does Shankara mean? He is attacking Buddhists who think of the ‘I’ sense in the following manner: I …. I…. I (where the ‘I’ sense does not exist during the dotted time period). What Sankara is arguing is that how do these Buddhists know that the series is not I1…I2…I3 etc where I1, I2, I3 are three different ego-consciousnesses? How can there be a stable personality which remembers a unique past or recognises old friends if the ego is unstable? In fact it is these Buddhists who need an unchanging principle (the Atman) that witnesses everything for all time (i.e. even during the gaps in ego-consciousness). Only if this Atman exists can Buddhists avoid problems regarding stability of personality. Otherwise a person who is Rama at one moment will consider himself Lakshmana in the next moment after the ego comes back. If these Buddhists now say that the ego-consciousness is stable and not momentary in order to save themselves from this conundrum then they have refuted themselves. Sankara then goes on to say that he can give a similar argument refuting Buddhist realists who regard the external world to exist momentarily. Even in this case of a momentary external world you will need an Atman (an unchanging witness for all time) to give stability to our perception. So in either case you need the Atman principle to make sense of our experience)
Buddhist Monk: Ok. Fair Point. I can’t argue against that. If I say there is perception, there has to be a perceiver. That’s exactly why I say there is neither an object of perception nor a perceiver. The World is unreal. Do you deny the unreality of the outer world?
Acharya: No. Here I am in full agreement with you. The so-called world is unreal to the extent of what we ordinarily see. The names and forms (Nama-Roopa) are fleeting.
[This is a unique and great similarity between Acharya’s Vedanta and the Buddhist ontological world view – Illusoriness of external World]
But it does not mean that there is no basis to this unreality. Not “Sarvam kshanikam kshanikam - Sarvam Shunyam Shunyam”!
[That is the fundamental difference between Acharya’s Advaita (Singularity of existence) Vedant and the Buddhist Nihilistic (Absence of existence) view]
You are wrong again Friend, because in Vijnanavada, you dwell on ‘only & mere’ perception to make the entire conscious Universe. If you have presumed perception, then whose perception? Perception of what? How can you presume and base your theory on the effect only, without looking at the causes? Such a theory is inadequate, inaccurate and false. The Great Gotama too fell into that trap of not inquiring deep enough. To formulate a simple theory, he ignored to delve into the true cause of suffering – the cause of suffering is not desire or attachment per se – but those are intermediate causes. Like a link in a chain. There is still another layer to the inquiry into desires, attachment, and bondage – that is Avidya and Ajnana. The nescience and ignorance cause desire and attachment. Gotama failed to see the true enemy.
Buddhist Monk: [Fuming) How can you question the Tathagata? He was omniscient (A Buddhist axiom).
Acharya: What proof is there that Tathagata Gotama was omniscient? I say No, he was not. And look at me, I am beyond suffering. So, how do you refute me? This Buddhist axiom is completely wrong.
Anyways, our coffee has arrived. Take this cup in your hand Shaman. What do you see?
Buddhist Monk: I see nothing actually. This apparent cup with apparent coffee in it, these, at the deepest layer are made up of discrete individual particles. The deepest level of both the material world and our consciousness is considered to be discrete, separate entities. Thus when we introspect into the deepest layer of our consciousness, we will find that it is composed not from a single homogenous whole but of discrete ‘particles’ – always in flux, always changing – never permanent.
Acharya: (Smiles) Oh, Dear Friend. I get your point. True there is no real cup – the cup is nothing but made up of clay – clay given another form and shape with heat. So, there is clay inside the cup. The cylindrical object (roopa) is the mere appearance which we have named a cup (Nama), there is no Cup as such, but clay in another form. I fully agree when you said You didn’t see a cup. But I disagree when you failed to see the clay in the cup. You can never assume clay out. No matter how deep will you go, there has to be a smaller and smaller entity which will exist. You can not extend the hair-splitting to non-existence. In the final split, something has to exist. And it does exist. Whatever it is, Quantum calls those particles, String people call those Strings, Relativists call those Energy – whatever name you may call, there has to be something that exists. It was there when the Universe started with Big Bang, it was there before it too (else how could the Big Bang singularity have started), it was always there, it is there in everything, it will always be there. We are all made up of Star dust. That star which existed in Big Bang, from which elements got created, from which Space came out. That is the Truth Dear Friend, you can’t assume that out only because you don’t see the subtlest level. You have stopped your quest before you reached the ultimate stage. Yes, particles may be there (Vaishesika friend tells me), particles may be in flux where you wont know what exactly is happening to them (Mister Schrödinger will tell you after 1300 years); but don’t get deluded – there is something that is still more subtle, and pervades everything. Everything can not come out of Nothing. The deepest Truth is Single, homogenous, a whole (Purnam).
Buddhist Monk: Oh. What is the proof, Acharya?
Acharya: Proof. I can offer you Shruti pramana (Scriptures as proof). But you and Tathagat are heretics, you don’t believe in the primacy of Shrutis.
To us, words of Shruti are unquestionable. Even the other day, Mandan Mishra (The great MImanshak) agreed to the same. The Vedas, the Shruti Shastra, the Puranas, Smriti, all teach an ens realissimum (an entity of highest reality) as the primordial cause of all existence, from which everything has arisen and with which it again merges, either temporarily or forever. And that sub-stratum always exists. Know my friend, that is the Only Truth, and Nothing but the Truth – the Sat-Chit-Ananda – the Brahman. “Sarvam khalvidam brahma' that is “All this is indeed Brahman” – and not Sarvam Shunyam Shunyam.
But for you My Friend, here is the argument. Everyone has the notion "I am"; no one can deny the self, because when you go to deny – there would be the self of the denier – who would scale up the denial.
[Both these arguments, that of the Witness and that of Identity, are at the very center of Acharya Shankara's system of Advaita Vedanta]
The Acharya Continued:
“Brahmaivedam amritam
Purastad brahma pascad brahma
Dakshinatas cottarena
Adhas cordhvam ca prasritam
Brahmaivedam visvam idam varishtham
Translation:
“That Brahman is Eternal.
Brahman in front and Brahman in back,
In the South, on the North,
Also Overhead and Below - expanded,
This Brahman is the Universe, this is the Greatest.”
-Mundaka Upanishad, Mundaka II.Khanda 2.Shloka 12
In other words, that supreme Brahman effulgence spreads throughout both the material and spiritual
That Brahman is known by multifarious names My Friend! People see it as Atma, as Ishwara, as Aum - the Pranav, as Prjnanam, there are many names. But there is nothing in those names. [Om Tat Sat]
I will add here my Friend, your Mahayana Buddhist scripture preaches the existence of the "Tathagata Garbha" (Buddha-Matrix/Essence) within all sentient creatures. This Mahasanghikas (Sect of Buddhism) notion of Tathagata Garbha is so close to Advaitic concept of Atman – the manifestation of Brahman in jeeva. This does not differ from a permanent Atman, though you never accept it!! You accept the Advaitic view by altering the nomenclature!
Buddhist Monk: (Started to leave the debate in fury. Acharya requests him to finish coffee). By Gotama! It’s so hot. My lips are burnt.
Acharya: Stop here. What did you say? Your lips are burnt? You are suffering, are not you? But at the same time you say there is no Soul. So, who is suffering? Buddhaghosa (Classical Theravada) has said that “there is only suffering, but nobody who suffers”, Mahayanist Śhantideva has interpreted Buddha that “the person who experiences suffering does not exist”. Is not that a ridiculous proposition? So why all these teachings? For whom? Who were Tathagata’s subjects?

Buddhist Monk: Come on Acharya! You too teach the unreality as cause of suffering and grief and pain. The world is nothing but an idea – a dream-like construct where nothing is real (Idealism in Buddhism/Vijnanavada). And now why do you criticize our unreality while professing yours?
Acharya: No. You have not understood the true essence of Advaita then. The unreality of external world that I teach is not based on nothing (It is not Nihilist). My unreality does not base on absence of reality – but on flawed perception of reality. Unlike you, I don’t say there is NO reality at all! I say there is reality and only ONE reality, but the way we perceive or take cognizance is erroneous because of Avidya, Ajnaan and Maya. Once the perception of snake goes away from the rope on the floor, there remain to Snake, only a rope! And there was never a Snake at all, it was rope all throughout. So, the unreal (Snake) was real till the true real (Rope) was realized. After realization, there was never a snake. Likewise, after you realize Brahman, you will experience that there was never a World of otherness. There was always Brahman, here there, inside outside. You are Brahman. It is an absolute identity and this is ultimately proved simply by psychological experience. Shruti has maintained "Tat tvam asi" (That art Thou); "Brahmasmi" (I am Brahman). This is no ‘similarity’ as if we should say, "I am something like Brahman", but full and complete identity, “I am the Brahman” and “Brahman is Me”.
The Great Tathagata saw suffering, but never endevoured to go deep into its causes. He saw the unrealness of the work-a-day, realized it fully, but he did not realize the true cause (Avidya) and the entity beyond the cause (Brahman). He did not see that strand of argument.
Buddhist Monk: Nah! Sakyamuni did not believe in philosophization or polemics. In Shoola Malunkyovada Sutta, the Tathagata has clarified that he won’t venture into questions of philosophy of suffering, but only the method as to end suffering - "The important thing is to get rid of the poisoned arrow (Suffering) that has pierced your heart, not to inquire where it came from (Source of suffering)”.
Acharya: I know. But then, what did the ilks of Nagarjuna, Vasubabdhu, Asanga, Dharmakirti, Aswaghosa, etc. do? Then why all of them attempted complex philosophisation? No wonder that they failed to bring out a holistic Theory of Being due to inherent contradictions and flaws in the basic tenets. Were they not Vipra Bhikshus (Buddhist Bhikshus at exterior, Brahmin Vedists by intellectual disposition) rather than Buddhists?

I also know the Great Buddha avoided philosophical and metaphysical questions. He did not look deep enough. He just sensed the symptoms of the ailment of suffering and not the true cause. Desire, bondage and attachment etc. are symptoms, not causes. But the Vedas and the Shruti inquired deeper – into the Source of suffering, and the method of Vedant interprets Shruti correctly by pointing out the real causes being ‘Avidya’ (Nescience), and false imputation (Adhyasa) due to Maya.
Buddhist Monk: Acharya!
Acharya: No, don’t say Nothing ever again! The Great Buddhist teachers did ‘exist’ and so did Tathagata. If you firmly believe in Tathagata; then you believe in his existence too! Their mortal embodiments were temporal, but teachings eternal, their thought eternal. That Jnana is eternal. That’s where Brahman shines. It is the light by which everything is seen, the light of which the sun and moon are pale reflections. It is not only real but so egregiously real that the work-a-day world fades into mist beside it.
Buddhist Monk: Starts to leave muttering No, No, No…..
[This is a very simple exposition. Mostly consisting of the Advaitic critique of Buddhism gleaned from various sources. A detailed account would require a thesis.]

Introduction

Thaumaturgy, the ancient discipline that merges magic and science, has long been a fascinating and challenging field of study. In our ongoing effort to expand the boundaries of knowledge and thaumic practice, we are faced with the challenge of finding and synthesizing materials that are not only abundant but also rich in crucial magical aspects. In this essay, we will explore two such materials: pyrite and icosahedrite, and examine their potential in the creation of new alloys and thaumic artifacts.
Pyrite, known for its composition of iron sulfide (FeS2), has long been a cornerstone in thaumic practice. The presence of sulfur and iron in its crystalline structure makes it an ideal source of the ignis, terra, and metallum aspects. Additionally, its perfect cubic crystals offer a generous dose of the ordo aspect, adding an additional level of complexity to its thaumic utility.
However, the growing scarcity of natural pyrite crystals, specially those with cubic shapes, due to its extensive use in the crafting of pyrotic magical alloys and power objects, poses a significant challenge for modern thaumaturges. It is imperative that we explore viable alternatives for obtaining this material.
We must also highlight the importance of emerging materials such as icosahedrite. Icosahedrite, recently discovered and of meteoric origin, exhibits a unique chemical composition of aluminum, copper, and iron (Al63Cu24Fe13). Although its availability is limited and its cost high, its potential in thaumaturgy is extraordinary. In addition to being an excellent source of the metallum and permutatio aspects, the true marvel of icosahedrite lies in its emerging aspects, especially the rare alienus aspect.
This alienus aspect, with its exotic and mysterious qualities, offers a vast field of possibilities in the manufacturing of quantum devices, metamagic contraptions, and artifacts for metric manipulation of space-time. Furthermore, icosahedrite infused with praecantatio essence can give rise to powerful dodecahedrites, with potential applications in the production of high-density magical batteries, wands and scepters of great power, enhanced arcane weapons, and antimagic ammunition.
In conclusion, both pyrite and icosahedrite represent valuable contributions to the thaumic arsenal. Their unique properties and potential in the creation of new alloys and artifacts urge us to explore more economical and scalable production methods.

Summary

Throughout my research in the field of thaumaturgy and materials sciences, I have conducted a series of experiments aimed at synthesizing high-quality materials for application in thaumic practice. These experiments have resulted in the development of innovative synthesis methods, which have been detailed and documented in a report attached to this essay.
In this essay, however, my goal is to provide a concise and accessible summary of the synthesis methods employed, as well as the results obtained. While the attached report contains specific technical details and additional experimental data, here I will focus on presenting an overview of the procedures used and their implications in the context of contemporary thaumaturgy.
It is my hope that this summary provides a clear and practical understanding of the synthesis methods employed, as well as their relevance to research and thaumic practice. For those interested in delving deeper into the technical and experimental details, I refer to the attached report for further information and detailed insights.

Method of synthesis for Pyrite cubes

The process of synthesizing high-quality pyrite involves several meticulous steps to ensure the formation of cubic pyrite crystals with optimal perfection and purity. Below is a summary of the main steps of the method:
  1. Preparation of the reactive mixture: The process begins with the preparation of a stoichiometrically calculated mixture of sulfur and iron. 32.06 grams of sulfur and 55.84 grams of iron, both finely powdered, are carefully weighed and mixed.
  2. Formation of iron sulfide (FeS2): The sulfur-iron mixture is placed in a crucible and ignited to initiate the reaction and form iron sulfide (FeS2).
  3. Grinding and dissolution: Once the iron sulfide is formed, the product is finely ground. Subsequently, the resulting iron bisulfide is dissolved in a eutectic mixture of sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium chloride salts. The exact proportions of these salts and specific temperatures are detailed in the attached report.
  4. Crystallization and controlled cooling: The dissolved mixture is placed in a crucible inside a glass annealing furnace for slow controlled cooling. This process allows pyrite crystals to form and crystallize in an orderly and uniform manner.
  5. Extraction and selection of crystals: Once the mixture has cooled and fully crystallized, the salt block is broken to extract and separate the precipitated pyrite crystals. Crystals with the most perfect cubic shapes are selected for use as seed crystals for growing larger crystals.
  6. Process refinement: Throughout the experimentation, refinements were made to the process to improve the quality and perfection of the pyrite crystals. These refinements are detailed in the attached report.
  7. Results: After a series of experiments and adjustments, a pyrite cube measuring 3.24 cm on each side was successfully grown, representing a significant success in the synthesis of high-quality pyrite.
This method of pyrite synthesis offers an effective route to obtaining cubic pyrite crystals with optimal thaumic properties, opening up new possibilities in the research and application of this material in contemporary thaumaturgy.

Method of synthesis for Icosahedrite dodecahedrons

The synthesis process of icosahedrite dodecahedrons involves a series of meticulous steps to cultivate polycrystalline crystals with desirable thaumic properties. Below is a summary of the main steps of the method:
  1. Preparation of the metal mixture: The process begins with the pre-fusion and mixing of a finely powdered combination of 21.51 grams of aluminum, 19.305 grams of copper, and 9.185 grams of iron, in a controlled argon atmosphere. The mixture is carefully conducted to ensure a uniform distribution of the elements.
  2. Refusion and controlled cooling: The metal mixture undergoes a refusion process to ensure complete melting of the components. Once melted, the mixture is allowed to cool within a crucible placed in a glass annealing furnace, ensuring slow controlled cooling.
  3. Addition of ordo aspect essence: During the cooling process, ordo aspect essence is added to accelerate and enhance crystallization. This addition helps promote the growth of desired dodecahedral quasicrystals and improve their quality and purity.
  4. Formation of the polycrystalline metal matrix: As a result of the controlled cooling process and the addition of ordo aspect essence, a polycrystalline metal matrix is obtained containing a variety of crystals with different orientations and structures.
  5. Extraction and selection of dodecahedrons: The polycrystalline metal matrix is carefully broken and fragmented to separate and extract perfectly formed and desired dodecahedral quasicrystals. Dodecahedrons with the most suitable shapes and thaumic properties are selected for use in thaumic applications.
Although the obtained icosahedrite dodecahedrons may be small in size, their successful formation represents a significant advancement in the synthesis of this highly promising material in thaumaturgy. This method provides a solid foundation for future research and applications in the field of contemporary thaumaturgy.
____

Request for acquisition of magical materials for Dodecahedrite research

Given the success of the icosahedrite synthesis process, I am attaching the reason why I have requested a budget. Although the letter sent details the reasons better, I have chosen to include an excerpt in this essay for transparency purposes.
In order to advance our thaumic research and reduce future costs, I propose an innovative strategy involving the acquisition of key magical materials for the manufacture of dodecahedrites. These materials, greatwood and thaumite, are crucial for extracting large quantities of praecantatio essence, an essential component in the successful production of dodecahedrites.
Greatwood and thaumite, with their high concentration of praecantatio essence, will allow us to obtain the necessary raw materials to manufacture dodecahedrites efficiently and economically. These dodecahedrites, combined with the icosahedrite quasicrystals we have successfully synthesized, will be used in future research on advanced thaumic applications.
By acquiring these materials in large quantities, we can not only reduce the production costs of dodecahedrites but also ensure a constant and sufficient supply for our thaumic research projects. Additionally, it will enable us to conduct large-scale experiments and explore the full thaumic potential of dodecahedrites in various areas of study.
Therefore, I respectfully request the University of Tecnomagic of Valencia to consider allocating a budget for the acquisition of greatwood and thaumite. This strategic investment will allow us to advance more rapidly in our thaumic research and achieve new milestones in the field of contemporary thaumaturgy.
I am available to provide any additional information that may be necessary and that I am authorized to provide.
Sincerely,
Professor Thaddeus Rune

Facility 9, Mancheston
Colonel Jacobs
His hands flew through the folders General Jorgenson and Colonel Thatcher had. There were dozens of them, stacked upon each other all filed in alphabetical order. It had only been a few days since he had woken up from his coma and visited his home— now his mother’s grave. He clenched his fists at the thought. The grief and rage threatened to bubble and spill over once again. He took a deep breath and dragged out the exhale, almost to the point where he had emptied out his lungs.
He was the only one with clearance, and so he couldn’t disclose any of what he learned with his team. They would simply have to trust him and his judgment. Which he was sure they would do. His hands went over one of the folders skimming through it. There were multiple secret projects, but the ones with the most notes were Project S.T.A.R, Project L.U.N.A.R.I, Project R.E.V.I.V.E, Project D.A.W.N, and Project T.E.M.P.L.A.R.
The colonel decided to start with the most notes and papers. Project D.A.W.N.
He skimmed through the notes, reading through some of the details and highlighted words. Project D.A.W.N, the espionage project Thatcher had started placed two spies in Verlin who were to report directly to a Crescent general named Sienna Moretti who was apparently on humanity’s side.
So I was right. There was an espionage element. With the recent attacks and Thatcher’s death, however, it’s safe to assume that it had somehow failed. Either they got found out or they betrayed us. Both seem very likely, but if they were found out, it would be possible that they had died.
He read through all of it before setting the folder down. There were no new notes recently. He sighed and assumed that Project DAWN was a failure. Whether or not the agents were still alive and well, it was too risky to check if they had been compromised. It was better to assume that they had been and cut all contact. The only way to find out now was to go there himself and check. I can’t contact them again. There’s no telling if it would still be Moretti or the agents who would see my messages. It’s a big risk, and judging by the state of things, best to assume it failed.
He picked up another folder. This one had the label ‘under development’ on the folder. Project Templar. He opened the folder and was instantly met with a blueprint and drawings of a massive bipedal machine. It looked humanoid with strange proportions and was supposed to be standing at an impressive 30 meters, or 100 feet. The Titanic Engine Mech for Personal Land Assault and Reconnaissance.
It was apparently a joint project with the Church of Sol, utilizing new and advanced technologies he hadn’t heard of. A 203mm Gatling cannon on one arm, while the other had three different weapons. A massive firestarter that utilized a new type of fuel mixture that could theoretically spew flames a kilometer away using a high-pressure nozzle. The fuel was ignited using an electrical spark. The second weapon was a high-powered light weapon that fired a single powerful beam of focused light that was even further amplified by layers of focusing lenses that could increase its output several times. Its third weapon was… a dust domina?
Mark read through the specifications of the so-called ‘sand cannon’ weapon. It was a massive cannon that accelerated tiny particles several times. Each particle was to be electrically charged, and it would travel at immense speeds. Near impossible speeds. The resulting impact of a microscopic particle at such speeds would be enough to form a small crater and punch through armor like it was nothing. This weapon would fire multiple at the same time, which could literally eat away at anything on the opposing end.
In terms of secondary weapons, the titan had two missile launch chambers in front of its shoulder each containing about 40 missiles, and two massive howitzer cannons on top of it. Both are 800mm in caliber. It had massive stumpy legs that served as bunkers for a small platoon on each leg. Each leg had machine dominas and 155mm cannons. Its chassis held two nuclear reactors inside providing for its power and weaponry. Its armor was the thickest and most ridiculous he’d ever read. Two meters of heavy steel armor.
How far are we in terms of technology? This thing looks like it came out of an H.G. Wells sci-fi novel. He thought, shaking his head. It was over the top, but there was no denying its combat capabilities. If it was already under-developed then it must be the first prototype. This has already been approved. Guess I better see it for myself later and check how it's coming along. Construction apparently started just a few months before the invasion.
Next was project L.U.N.A.R.I. It was a project involving Six. “Huh,” he said, continuing to read on.
The Light Undone: Nocturnal’s Adaptive Resistance Initiative. As he read further, his eyes widened. The reason why Six was so special wasn’t just because of her immunity to all strigoi weaknesses, but because of her impressive ability to turn any true born strigoi like her. She could transfer her strain like any other strigoi and transform them into a version of hers. It however only seemed to work for naturally born strigoi. The new species of ‘half-breeds’ were called ‘Blessed Children’ as Thatcher had coined in the folder.
The plan was to turn all willing true-born hemolite strigoi into these blessed children. Able to withstand the sun. Immune to silver. Free from the dependency on blood. They could remove all the weaknesses of the strigoi and after the war— make it possible to integrate them into society as normal citizens living on the surface. The project folder also made mentions of a city-wide draft in Dante and highlighted the possibility of turning all Dantenite true born strigoi into these blessed children and renaming them as ‘Lunari’. A mix of the dark and the light. The light of Sol reflected in the children of the night.
“Thatcher, what the fuck have you been up to…” Mark whispered to himself.
While it was true that it could help in the war effort by utilizing Six and the dantenite population, it would also invite some unforeseen problems and consequences. Would humanity be okay with the Lunari? Would the world even be ready for them? Strigoi who were immune to the sun. They wouldn’t be impossible to kill, but they would be immensely more powerful if we were to take away their inherent weaknesses. This is a gamble. Its gain would only be seen during the war period, but its unintended effects on society could be catastrophic.
He frowned, setting the folder down. It was obviously Thatcher’s main plan; seeing as all her moves could be traced to the path of the eventual completion of this project. It seemed dangerous in the long run, but the duskwalkers and dantenites had been monumental in the war effort. Maybe it was the time the world started to accept them more. Isolation and segregation was definitely not the way to disperse fears and foster understanding.
If Thatcher thinks this is the next step forward… then I’ll put my faith in her plans.
Next up was Project S.T.A.R, or the Superior Tech and Adaptive Resistance. An upgrade to the current hemolite weapons and gear by using new researched studies. The Starfire Pattern Domina. The SFD-23 This thing features a new loading system and magazine, ditching the rotating cylinder most domina used, or the rotating helix magazine design of the current hemolite standard BM-16 domina.
The new domina had its magazine like a box… a strange design but it was certainly easier to handle than the bulky cylinders the helical mags used. In terms of ergonomics, it was smoother and fit more. Its placement however was on top of the domina, just above the barrel. Most of the weapon were to be made of lightweight polymers and the barrel itself were to be crafted out of reinforced aluminium. In addition to that, it had a 10-inch bayonet attached to it.
There were other new things as well, such as the composition of the bullet. Looking at the conceptual cross-section designs, Mark read through its description and how it would function. A .308 cased telescoped bullet covered in a silver jacket with break-away petals surrounding the main body. Inside the jacket was a penetrator core that was to be made of depleted uranium. It had a small amount of incendiary compound and… powdered white phosphorus behind an explosive compound. The thin silver jacket would deform and trigger the explosive compound inside the body. It would blow up causing massive internal damage and release the incendiary materials into the body with the flecks of powdered white phosphorus. The penetrator core could still potentially keep going and hit a second target, or punch through heavily armored targets.
Part of the new Project S.T.A.R was overhauling the armor and gear of not just the Hemolites but the Hunters as well. Starfire Mk 1. Carapace Armor. Carapace? It looked like plates of steel covered in a rubberized coat. It was supposed to be slipped on over the original hemolite body armor. It added a spring-loaded wrist blade to the gauntlet, a thicker coat made of resistant materials, and added extra padding for the knees, shoulders, and elbows.
However, the hemolites weren’t the only ones mentioned in the folder. It was to serve the Hunters as well. “Hunters…” Mark said. “August’s group is part of this initiative too.” He flipped through some of the pages. There were blueprints and drawings of an armored suit. A mechanized suit even smaller and more compact than the jotunn units. The Mark 1 STR battlesuit. It was supposed to hug the wearer’s frame and increase their overall power. It was supposed to be built of titanium alloy and a heavy steel frame with composite armor. It had a cooling system, life support systems that could recycle bodily fluids, and an exoskeleton frame that could increase the wearer’s strength and speed.
However, the real eye-opener was Thatcher’s notes. She had been ranting about the new human evolution, and how the Hunters were the first of the ‘Solari’. She wanted to enhance human genetics and push past the peak of human ability to reach greater heights. Implants and restructuring of the anatomy to make it more efficient. Using the blood of the goddess herself. She must have lost it. These are the ramblings of a lunatic. At least… if she didn’t mention the goddess. Why was the goddess important here?
The writings ended with the words: “See Project R.E.V.I.V.E, for more details.”
Mark eyed the final folder. His hands shook as he reached out to take it. Flipping it open, his hands nearly dropped it in shock. The goddess Helena was alive. There were pictures of her naked form floating in a giant tube of fluid. There were more of Thatcher’s ramblings and excited rants about the possibilities of such a discovery. Resurrection, Enhancement, and Veneration: Implementation of Visionary Evolution.
The goddess is alive?! According to the file, she’s currently under the Cathedral of New Lundun. Not only that, but the file also detailed the extraterrestrial tech that lay beneath the cathedral. So the goddess is real and she’s— not really a goddess, but rather, a vampyr who created herself a human body to stand in the sun, and decided that it wants to be on humanity’s side… what the fuck.
Mark’s frown and confusion only increased as he read on. Thatcher’s notes seemed to nearly descend into madness as she had written about creating ‘the first hundred’, alluding to the 100 members of the Hunters division. Her plan was to revive the goddess, and with her help and expertise in genetics— use her DNA to transform the Hunters into demi-humans. Super soldiers. Literal children of the goddess Helena. They would then don the STR battlesuits, the first of the superhuman warriors to defend humanity. Solari.
Their lightning-speed advancement into technology was heralded by studying the alien tech, which deepened the understanding of physics and engineering. Nuclear technologies, chemical warfare, new material sciences, the mechs, and walkers, it was spearheaded by trying to reverse-engineer technology centuries ahead of our own… for the past hundred years. It wasn’t completely stolen, however. More or less borrowed ideas that had been made into our own with our own designs and implements. Still, the speed at which the Church and the military had deciphered such advancements all by themselves was… impressive to say the least.
Still, the fact that the goddess was alive, and could be brought back was big news. Checking the file for details, he found that the previous general, Jorgenson, had already approved this project. It was their next step as soon as they returned from New Amsterdam; which never happened.
If Helena was alive, then she could end this war swiftly, or at the very least help greatly like she once did during the War of Darkness. Having the goddess back would throw a massive wrench in the Crescent’s plans. It would certainly be something they wouldn’t expect. Not even I expected this, since many sources say that the goddess had already ascended to watch over humanity, while conspiracy theorists claim she had died in battle and that the Church was worshiping a corpse. This could be the trick up our sleeves that no one would even consider.
The colonel quickly got up from his seat and gathered the main files he had read. He placed them in a bag and rushed outside of his office in Facility 9. He went over to a nearby room and flicked the lights on. “We need to go,” he said. In an instant seven hemolite soldiers got up from whatever they were doing and instantly stood in line.
“Sir! Whatever you need of us, sir,” the group said in unison.
They were Hemo-1. His former squad members. He had taken up Louis' suggestion that they be his personal security detail. It was a shame that he had basically placed the best hemolite team out of commission, but after all he had been through he convinced himself that he could be just a little selfish. He didn’t want to lose any more friends. Not on his watch. Not while he was in an office, and they were out fighting.
“We’re going to New Lundun. Better pack up, it’s going to be a long night.”
“Mark,” Olivia said.
Jacobs turned to her direction and gave her a nod.
“Colonel, sir, may I ask where in New Lundun?”
“Liv, you don’t need to do that with me. Please. I give all of you special permission,” the colonel groaned. “It’s so weird. I mean, ‘captain’ was bad enough, but now you’re acting like I’m an authority figure.”
“You… are, though,” Emma shrugged.
“I’m your friend, and Liv I’m literally your partner. Unless you have some kind of weird fetish, save it for later.”
Olivia grinned, shaking her head. “Duly noted!” she chirped.
“That’s better,” Mark chuckled. “Now come on, we have a cathedral to visit.”
“Uhh, I’m not sure if you noticed, but we’re kinda… strigoi?!” Louis groaned. “I’d burn the moment I step in that place! Plus, it’s coated in silver! Anything I even touch will give me burns!”
“Oh come on, Lou. You have fucking gloves on. As long as you’re not a clumsy dumbass you’ll be fine… oh wait.’
“Uh huh, just sayin’ what I think, boss.”
The group headed out and Mark said something on his radio. He then sat on the ground, making his joints pop. The rest of the squad shrugged and followed his example, sitting down on the grass and waiting for… nothing. Charles and Zach looked at each other in confusion. “Uh, sir?” they asked. “Aren’t we supposed to be heading out and traveling right now?”
“Oh yeah, we’re just waiting.”
“Foooor…?”
The colonel gave them a smirk as a loud noise began to make itself known. A hummingbird transport appeared out of the distance and stopped right above them, slowly descending into the grass. “Being colonel has its perks,” Mark said with a smile. He stood up and hopped inside the hummingbird as soon as it landed. “Come on now! We’ve got work to do! Last one aboard buys everyone food later!”
Emma zipped in before Mark could even finish his sentence, followed by Olivia, Phineas, Charles, Zach, and then Louis, who sadly took too long to process what the colonel said, and lagged behind.
“Aw, man! Fuck this shit.”
“Rules are rules, Lou. Prepare your wallet later.” Mark grinned.
With a smile, the colonel pulled Olivia to his side, who blushed for a moment before shaking her head. “Take us up! New Lundun Cathedral! How long would it take?” he asked the pilot.
“About an hour and a half!” The pilot replied. “Less if you want to get there as soon as possible!”
“Take your time! The night’s still young.”
The hummingbird started to lift up, taking them into the air. The group settled down in their seats and watched outside the open. Mark opened up a bag inside the hummingbird and took out some ear muffs built for a strigoi. Extremely loud noises were damaging for a strigoi’s enhanced hearing, so the military started implementing ear muffs for them after complaints from early deployments of the hemolite squads.
The trip didn’t take too long. In only an hour and twenty minutes they had arrived at the safe zone of New Lundun, heading straight for the cathedral. The night mass had just ended and people were leaving the cathedral. “Looks like we made it in perfect time!” Mark smiled. They hovered for a few minutes in the air before eventually landing down right in front of the statue of Helena.
As soon as they landed, the colonel and his group left the hummingbird. Mark instructed the pilot to wait for them. He went straight for the cathedral with his group following behind. He entered inside, clearing his throat. “Hello?”
“Well this is surely unexpected,” an old man said, walking up to greet them.
“Great Grandfather Aurelius. It’s uh, an honor.”
“Please. The honor is mine… I see you’re the new colonel. Yes, I’ve heard the news,” he said. “Would you mind telling me your name, young man? As well as your companions, if they feel so. I usually don’t allow duskwalkers here but, I have nothing against them. I’ll make an exception for your group.”
“Thank you, Great Grandfather,” Mark replied. “I am Colonel Mark Jacobs. These are my friends and security detail. Olivia, Zach, Phineas, Charles, Emma, and Louis.”
“I see, and what brings you here?”
“Since Thatcher’s demise, I was given access to her research and project folders upon taking up the title. I’ve learned about what’s under your cathedral,” Mark cleared his throat. “Would it be alright if we could see it? I’d like to check it for myself. Of course, under your permission and guidance, Great Grandfather.”
The church head looked from Mark to his companions. He pulled a slight frown and hummed. “Do these companions of yours have the clearance? Surely, we wish to keep our secrets hidden,” he said. Mark nodded.
“They do not have clearance to know what is in Thatcher’s folders and her findings,” the colonel nodded. “However, I give them permission to accompany me, and should they discover things for themselves, then you have my word and my trust that I can keep them from spilling state secrets.”
The Great Grandfather gave a short pause before ultimately relenting. “Very well,” he let out a sigh. “Follow me.”
Aurelius walked behind the altar and pulled the same lever, which opened the same staircase leading underground, where Jorgenson and Thatcher had once gone. “Over here, colonel,” he said. “I do not know you completely yet, but this is a big deal of trust I am giving you. Perhaps you would be the one to do things that Thatcher could not have.”
Mark nodded, he and his group followed the Great Grandfather down the staircase. It led down to a massive underground facility, with numerous priests, researchers, and scientists. Libraries, records, instruments, and artifacts of old. It was a treasure trove of learning.
“So,” Aurelius cleared his throat. “What would you like to know about?”
“This isn’t all of it,” Mark said. “Thatcher mentioned a living, breathing, Helena.”
His group behind him let out a soft gasp, but they tried their best to hide their surprise.
“Hm,” the Great Grandfather nodded. “Perceptive young man aren’t you? Very well.”
They were then led into another room, behind a set of heavy blast doors. If the whole group were trying to hide their surprise then, now they could barely contain it. Even the colonel stared awestruck at the things he had seen. Despite the near-magical objects around them, the true shock was the massive starship at the end of the hallway. “It’s impressive isn’t it?” Aurelius said. “All of the goddess’ artifacts and items at our disposal, to use and learn from, to integrate into our own. This is why Anglestan is the most powerful nation in the UHT in terms of development. When it comes to industry, however, that would go to the UNA. But we share our secrets with them. All our advancements are handed to them first before any other nation.”
“This is all amazing, Great Grandfather,” Mark replied. “But this is not what I’m here for.”
“No, it’s not.” Aurelius nodded.
He led them to another room, one that was sterilized and sported advanced machinery. Things that Mark had never even seen. There were screens with luminous green texts that appeared in front of it. Large panels with numerous keys, levers, and dials. Graphs of all sorts and beeping monitors. In the center, was the very thing he had come all this way to confirm. A large cylinder filled with liquid, sporting tubes and pipes connecting to its base. Inside was a woman of large proportion. Four arms, two legs, and six wings. In her bare chest was a symbol of the sun that seemed to glow dimly.
“There she is, there’s you goddess.”
Neither Mark nor his group spoke a word. He walked up to it, eyeing the woman inside. It really is her. Down to the last details. Golden hair, six limbs, six folded wings, and she looks massive. Probably as big as her statue just outside the cathedral. This is it. The very goddess in the history books, the one spoken about in legends and the one worshiped in the Churches of Sol.
“Can we free her?” he said.
The Great Grandfather nearly choked on his spit upon hearing those words. “Free her?! That could kill her! We don’t even understand this technology, let alone control it!” he said pointing at the panels. “The machines you see here are the best and most advanced we have based on what we can reverse engineer, but even then, the consequences of tampering with its functions may be disastrous!”
“I understand, Great Grandfather,” Mark said. “But we are in a dire situation, and the goddess may be our hope of turning this around. Whatever secrets of her tech that you don’t understand, wouldn’t she be able to teach us directly? What good is she floating around in Sol knows what?”
“That is her miraculous healing fluid. She had already built this contraption centuries ago in case anything were to happen to her, that her body’s natural healing could not sustain,” Aurelius said. “During the War of Darkness, Helena was struck with a weapon so deadly, her very cells began to tear away. The Reaper. Dealt to her by Absolem the progenitor. Her flesh was peeling from her body, and she began to decay whilst she still breathed. She entered this contraption and gave strict instructions to the Great Grandfather at the time, not to interrupt the healing process. The machine that monitored her, however, began to fail over time.”
“So this… these screens and panels…”
“Is only what functions we can understand. We took it upon ourselves to rebuild and study it the best we could. What we have right now is only a cheap imitation of a technology we do not fully comprehend,” he said. “It took us decades to even figure out the fundamentals and create a working prototype of this machine. By some miracle, the goddess’ healing process had remained even while we replaced components of technology ahead of ours.”
“But you know how to free her, don’t you?”
“I… yes.”
“Great Grandfather Aurelius,” Mark began. “We can end this war. Imagine what we could do with the goddess fighting on our side. We could advance even further, we could finally end the bloodshed, and we can show humanity that there is still hope. Imagine how people all over the world would feel seeing as their goddess has returned.”
“I wish I had your enthusiasm,” Aurelius said. “But it is simply too risky. The Church’s duty is to protect Helena and her legacy. We keep her alive, literally and figuratively. She nearly died the last time she was involved in a war. Would you risk losing the goddess?”
“Would you risk humanity losing?”
The Great Grandfather fell silent, looking back at Helena floating inside the tube, then to the panels that controlled it. He frowned and let out a long sigh. “The goddess said that we should not interrupt it. That it would end as soon as it was finished. Maybe we should trust her words.”
Mark shook his head. “I don’t spot a single blemish on the goddess. Not a single scratch,” he argued. “You said it yourself that the machine had begun to fail and you replaced components. How would you know that the thing that’s supposed to wake her up was not tampered with? Think about it. What you may think is a useless piece may be integral to the whole machine. Or maybe your replacements were not up to the task. Just because nothing’s happened doesn’t mean its functions have remained whole.”
“Young man, we simply cannot gamble with the goddess’ life here.”
“Have you no faith? Great Grandfather?”
Aurelius stepped back in shock. Mark’s companions looked at each other, clearly surprised as well. “Mark… I don’t think we should keep arguing with—” Olivia tried to say.
“No,” the colonel said firmly, cutting her off. “Great Grandfather Aurelius, do you think that Helena will not be able to pull through if we wake her? How long has it been? A century? How much longer will we wait? She may be immortal but humans aren’t.”
“I'm sorry, but the chances of failure are too high. The probability of her—”
“I don’t care about the probability! Would you rather put your faith in a statistic?!” Mark raised his voice. “I lost my mother to this war! My friends! My job! My eye, and almost my life! I’ve put mine on the line out there! You don’t know what it’s like out there! Was my mother’s death just a probability too? Was she just a statistic to you?! That as long as the numbers are good, no matter how many are lost, we are ‘winning’?!”
“Mark—!”
“No, Liv! He needs to know what’s really going on out there!” he spat. “Great Grandfather, with all due respect, but you don’t have a damn clue what it’s like to be in the field. You’re a man of faith, aren’t you? Take a risk. Everyone else has.”
Aurelius stood there, dumbfounded. He bit the inside of his cheeks and clenched his fists. “For your insolence, I would have had you flogged and stripped of your rank,” he glared at the young colonel. However, his features slowly softened, letting out a soft sigh. “But I have never seen such conviction. Mighty is your faith.”
The Great Grandfather moved over to the panels and reached into his robe, pulling out from around his neck a key with the symbol of the sun. He inserted it into the machine and turned. A beep sounded, right before Aurelius pulled a lever. In an instant, the fluid inside the glass chamber began to drain out into the tubes under it. Slowly, the chamber emptied and all that was left was the nude form of the goddess sitting in the glass.
“Did it work?” Louis asked, stepping forward and looking at the woman.
Aurelius stayed silent, his hands shaking in anticipation. Mark moved toward the glass chamber, when suddenly, the glass opened up like a door, releasing a fragrant mist. They stood there, watching for a whole minute. Nothing. At first nothing. The Great Grandfather looked like he was about to break down. His knees shook as he covered his mouth, thinking that he was responsible for the death of Helena.
That was when… a soft sound was heard. Movement. Olivia immediately went over to Mark and stood in front of him. Ready to protect him should anything happen. Slowly, the goddess moved more, her arms inched to the side.
Then, her eyes opened.

2024.05.17 09:30 conchan Where is the scale option for Transforms dialog box.

I'm slowly working my way through the 21 day challenge and am now looking for the scale option in the Transforms dialog box so I can make the reCAPTCHA scale properly in mobile. (Or how to make the scaling work in the new UI?)
I am sure it is a simple thing but the location has eluded me.
In the tutorial video I should see this,

2024.05.17 08:31 PapagamasJr Season 2 God Comp 4/5 Classes Are Back - Holy Paladin Took The Blame?

I wasn't around in S2. I came back for S3 only to find out that my main had been nerfed to the ground. And by looking at logs from both seasons, it looks like the spec that took the blame was holy paladin.
SPriests are back, mages are back, aug is back, and now you got VDH instead of Guardian Druids and resto druids in top comps.
Meanwhile, hpala is borderline unplayable. Our hps is low and we need to press a billion buttons to make bars move and our dps is abysmal. HR and CL spam on my resto shaman does double the dps of my 20ilvl higher hpala on full rotation with wings! WTF?
But this isn't just about the numbers. The playstyle is clunky as hell. And yet, still no announcement about how they're gonna fix this mess of a spec in TWW.

2024.05.17 07:19 PutoJooj Is there any way I can increase the size/resolution of a specific fusion composition?

I'm not sure what's the real name of this, but basically, I'm wondering if there is any way to expand the area or the resolution of a specific fusion composition? I'm asking this because I'm doing something here with a 3D sphere and a glow effect, however, the glow gets clipped because of the resolution, is there any way I can increase it, so I don't have to make the sphere smaller or reduce the glow for it to not get clipped? I've searched for this, but the answers that I found were related to the background node, and it didn't work very well.

2024.05.17 05:54 No_World4814 Wolfpack chapter 1

Hello there, this is a sub-fiction of “In the name of humanity”, if you don’t know what that is, it is fine, I am still working on the first book, so consider this a teaser.
I am happy to receive feedback of any kind, so feel free to give me suggestions… or if you really need to, you can rant at me about how horrible this is, I won’t be offended.
Well, enjoy!
Chapter one, the hunters.

POV High Capt Alexander M Johnson. Date, 6/7/2146.
I entered into the briefing room, seeing that the holograms for all the captains were there, I addressed them,
“Roughly thirty minutes ago, a Xeno fleet was detected, we have determined that it will arrive in roughly forty-nine hours. you will get your ships to maximum combat preparedness that is practical at that time, understood?”
the captain of the Fire of Terra asked, “Do we have an estimate of their ships?” I responded, “The shatterspace sensors have gotten an estimate, only one has the potential of being a capital, forty-seven ships total.” He nodded. there were no more questions, everyone left and went to their business.
I rushed out of the room. Rushing to the primary ladder and ascended two levels to the bridge deck.
When I entered the bridge I gave the order to the intercoms officer, “Tell the engineer crew to do a partial overhaul to as many weapons as possible, tell them to prioritize PD systems, and not to do anything that they are not certain they can get done in thirty hours. Understood?”
He gave a quick nod and responded, “Yes Sir! I’ll relay that right away.”
I switched to the weapons officer, “Have your crews double check the missile’s safeties are disarmed, and that they are fully fueled. Understood?” He confirmed. Then I switched to the IT officer, “Have your crew and the cybersecurity AI check the algorithms of all systems, make sure they are as efficient as possible and have no malware. Understood.”
After going through the same ritual with the sensor and comms officers.
I ordered the alert status to be switched to blue. Then I ascended another level to the officer deck, where I entered my room and inspected my IVA suit and determined that there were no leaks. Then grabbed a ration bar from my locker and headed back to the bridge to continue my Admin duties.

I saw the alert status indicator lights switch from orange to red. Show time.
Beings as I was on the way to the bridge I only had to climb one more deck.
I asked the XO, “What is the ETA of our ‘friends’ I have made the last preparations for the party.”
She chuckled then said, “Our friends are fifteen minutes out, I noted that the yields of the bomb pumped X-ray LASERS were just switched to max.” I gave her a wolfish smile, “Only the best for our friends!”
Fifteen minutes later the first escort ships exited shatterspace, and were promptly destroyed…
Everything is going to plan, and I don’t even have to micromanage.
I felt the ship turn so that she was broadside on to the exit point.
Just then I saw the ship we suspected was a capital appear on the hologram showing relative positions, it was only a fat juicy bulk goods freighter, it was too slow to avoid the three X-ray LASERs that lanced toward it. Five minutes after the battle started, every enemy ship was space debris, our ships were barely scratched, the element of surprise does do that.

Sadly we couldn’t hang out here any more, the last engagement combined with two smaller previous engagements ran our X-ray LASER missiles almost dry.
So we started back to Sirius shipyards. The aforementioned shipyards were orbiting the only planet in the Sirius system, A rocky planet three times the size of earth. It also had a moon the size of phobos that provided the raw materials used by the shipyard,
Overall the Sirius system only had a shipyard due to it being the only star system other than Sol on a small shatterspace corridor, making it faster to get to Sirius from earth than the alpha centauri system is, and from Sirius to the closest corridor used by the Altrax is a week’s travel.
Making Sirius a perfect staging base.
Although there was a corridor used by the Altrax that took less time to get to from Earth, it was used heavily by the military, and to be quite frank, we only have around ten thousand ships, thus, we would be curb-stomped in a head on war with the Altrax. Also, they think we were wiped out or subjugated by someone else, and high command sees no reason to remove the blinders from them, using earth as a staging base would do just that.
My personal opinion was that we needed to build more ships, but of course high command has to deal with pencil pushers saying that we “Needed to be reasonable with how much we ask.”
If I had my way, those pencil pushers would be put in prison for gross negligence, or executed for treason… There are aliens that have been proven hostile, is that not enough reasons for more money to be put into ships?!? The ship doctor is always asking me why I have high blood pressure, this is why.
I climbed up to the galley, it was situated at the very front of the ship due to it being considered the least important section, another example of stupid civilians, put the armory up there, it will be empty in battle anyways… But the galley, some would argue that it is the most important section. If you don’t have a galley, morale drops, if morale drops people are less efficient, and if they are less efficient, systems start failing… if systems start failing, bad things happen.
Chicken teriyaki and rice was on the menu for this crew’s dinner. with cream of wheat and bacon being prepared for the next crew’s breakfast. somehow, the mixture of smells was wonderful. I grabbed a tray and went to an officer's table.
The tables of the officers and standard crew were segregated, with a thin fabric screen in between the two areas. An officer can go into the crew’s area but it was socially unacceptable, an officer shouldn’t be listening to the crew’s gossip. The crew on the other hand can go into the officer’s area, but you couldn’t exactly gossip with an officer like you can with a fellow crewman, so the crew basically stayed to themselves at mealtimes.
When I was midway through the meal the next crew’s sensor officer came and saluted before sitting down, “How are you doing captain?” I got up and returned his salute before sitting back down, “Good, annoyed that we have the return to base, happy that no one was lost in the battle.”
He nodded, “I agree, I would rather get closer to the end of the war than have downtime, like yes downtime here and there is good, but ninety percent of your time is downtime… that’s too much. Agreed?” I nodded, “Yes, but the ships need a thorough inspection and repair after these last six months.” He nodded, we finished our meals in silence and parted ways.
I climbed down to the officers deck and turned in for the night.

I watched the tactical display as our wolfpack decelerated to dock with the station, there were two other wolfpacks docked at the port, both looked like they were almost done with overhaul.
The Nav officer surrendered control of maneuvering and engines to the station at fifty thousand kilometers.
Semper taedium was the ship’s motto for the next five hours as we headed in to dock.
But fifteen minutes before docking the ship turned into a hive of activity as preparations were made for docking, every centimeter of the ship was double checked for loose items, which were then put in safe spots so they didn’t become projectiles when the ship jolted as it docked.
Finally the jolt signified that we had docked and we could enter the station while the station crews spent the next month replacing everything that had any possibility of breaking down, and by anything, I mean even that toaster in the galley that is taking a second too long to make toast, seriously, they do a test with it, and if it is too fast or slow, they replace it, and it gets put on a second rate ship. Sometimes I don’t get what is going on in the minds of engineers.
As I walked out the dock-master greeted me, “Ello. Looked at the engineers report, you guys took those ships through a ringer, two hundred lightyears, why?” I grimaced, “We were avoiding enemy patrols, they doubled up a month ago, the attacks must be hitting em where it hurts.”
He leaned towards me, “I heard that they have been having to rotate ships through their main docks due to the secondary ones not getting enough equipment, you guys must be destroying some major tonnage.” I nodded, “Roughly a megaton of cargo, our wolfpack alone.” he whistled, “Dang, that's a Jupiter class pretty much.” I nodded, “Yeah. Well, I’ll leave you to your work.”
We waved each other bye and departed.

It felt so good to be back on the ship, the last eight weeks were torture.
Although I felt a strange sadness seeing the station drift away on the display.
The station-master's voice crackled on intercom speakers, “God bless you in the hunt.”
I took command of the comms, “Thanks, we’ll make sure to come back to annoy you!”
I heard him groan, “Can I take that back?” I responded, “Nope you already wished us good luck, See you next time!
The ship jolted as it was electro magnetically accelerated to a fifty meters per second relative velocity to the station. Roughly a minute later the ship's engines kicked on. I checked the tactical display to see if the rest of the wolfpack was following suit, they did.
About a minute later, it felt like every atom in my body was slightly tugged in every direction, good a successful jump.
The micro jump took five seconds, we were at the expected location, six light minutes away.
All of the ships automatically changed vector so that they were heading towards the shatterspace corridor, the we jumped… now for the eight day wait as we head towards the corridor… Semper taedium, yay.
End of chapter.

2024.05.17 03:59 jlhabitan The Eras of MTV's The Challenge

It's quite unbelievable to see The Challenge become this huge franchise for MTV that has only happened in the past decade, finally reaping the fruits of its hard work when the show pivoted from being this afterschool spectacle of RRW alumni playing silly games for money every episode to this highly-produced/high-stakes competition that requires a lot of guts, glory, and mind games which now draws challengers from different reality shows in the US and overseas.
So how would we label these different eras of The Challenge and which seasons would we consider being part of a Challenge era?
I thought of calling three eras of The Challenge as: Classic Challenge, Golden Era/Peak Challenge, and Expansionist Challenge.
What do you guys think? Sorry if I'm being such a nerd for this, hehe. =)

What is Hora?

Hora Chakra can be used to find suitable timings. Hora, derived from the Sanskrit term अहोरात्र, represents the duration between two sunrises. The concept of Hora is also present in Spanish, where it means time. There are seven distinct Hora, which rotate in a fixed cycle, making up 24 Hora in a day and night. This system helps individuals choose a favorable Muhurta or a period.

2024.05.17 01:13 S1mpinAintEZ Trying to make Reno Mage work

Mage is my favorite class by far and Sif mage was one of my favorite decks, but since the nerfs and rotation it just hasn't been that great. So I thought...why not make it a Reno deck?
After multiple failed attempts with a sub 50% winrate (some earlier versions were around 30%) I've built a list with some recent mini-set cards that I think may actually break 50%. I've played 14 games since the mini set, I won 9 of them. This was tested at Gold and Platinum rank so not exactly tier 1 but not dumpster tier either.
The goal of the deck is still to burst people down with Sif, but you get to play Reno too. With Warrior being less popular now this strategy is a bit more viable, most classes don't gain a lot of armor and the 'OTK' does a bit above 30. Usually though, you end up getting the opponent down to 20 or so and it becomes a lot easier. The basic OTK is to pump Sif up to +6, play Greedy Partner to get a coin at some point, then play a forged Molten Rune (18), Snake Oil (6), and Flame Geyser (8). This comes out to 32 damage. In faster matchups, you can use the Molten Rune for resource generation and removal since you probably won't need to OTK your opponent and we still have Reverberations as a backup for a 28 damage burst with the coin, Snake Oil, and Flame Geyser.
I'm not a very experienced deckbuilder so any feedback here is appreciated, do you guys think a Reno deck could be a better version of Rainbow mage now that Warrior is gone? Obviously this is slower with less draw, but it does a better job at keeping the board clear and generating some chip damage. The biggest downside is that it's slow and could maybe use more draw, the card generation helps with this but if your really big hitters like Sif or Reno are at the bottom half of your deck then it can be difficult against slower decks.

2024.05.17 00:35 RookBreakdown Lords of Magic: Retro Fantasy Strategy, Simplest ways to win as each team.

Greetings retro computer game fans! I've been a fan of tactical strategy games since I was a boy, unfortunately I'm still not especially strategic :(. For one, I tend to overthink things and end up with overly elaborate esoteric plans with way too many steps that can go wrong. So for the sake of straightforward I thought I'd give my thoughts on the simplest ways to beat Death Lord Balkoth, the Final Boss and ultimate target of each campaign in Lords of Magic, with each of the 7 playable 'Faiths' aka factions/races. This guide is for the Hard difficulty with the default party set-up because the lower difficulties don't require any particular strategy to be easily won and Custom party composition offers way too many cheesy overpowered options to even list.
Earth: Warrior Lord, research Entangle ASAP and give enough experience to your Mage Tower to train Level 2 Magicians, so they have the 4 mana to cast Entangle without artifacts. Level up your Dwarf Lord ASAP and give as much experience to your Earth barracks as you can. Death has a lot of deadly spells (go figure lol) but no crowd control and Earth units aren't slowed by swamp. Massed leveled up dwarf infantry should be able to kill Balkoth so long as he immobilized by Entangle and thus unable to flee. The only major downside with this strategy is it leaves you with nothing that hard counters Dark Javelins, which do a ton of ranged damage. The only soft counter is using the Riders Earth cavalry to close distance faster with their quick combat speed.
Air: Thief Lord, research Headwind and mass Fairy Slingers. Level up your Fairy Slingers using your Thief Lord, for 2700 Experience they'll max out their Range Attack at 12 which means Aimed Missile will hit for 12*1.5=18 which can hurt even a max Level Balkoth. Headwind will prevent Balkoth from fleeing effectively and is much easier to both research and cast than Stun.
Life: Thief Lord, Mass leveled up Elven Archers can shoot down Balkoth and anything else he can reasonably get if you attack with some haste. Death lacks multi-target damage spells, which are the hardest counter to Elven Archers, so you'll find strength in numbers. Research Create Plains to generate meadow terrain that will slow down Death and there's no chance Balkoth will successfully flee.
Fire: Sorceress Lord, get your Mage Tower to Level 2 to produce Demons ASAP. Research Lava Flow to produce terrain that will slow down almost all your enemies, this is the closest thing to a movement control spell Fire magic offers. Research Frenzy, Immolation, and Flame Sword as these are all quick to research and can be combined for a massive 10+ Attack bonus if cast on the same unit. Demons have a lot of HP and 50% Death magic Resist so long as you can get them to attack Balkoth before he can get his one-hit-kill spell Lost Soul theres little chance he'll kill them with magic. Buffed Demons will do damage very quickly if you order them into melee and should have no problem against anything except perhaps massed Dark Javelins. If you're struggling with Javelins you can research Heat Shield to increase your Demon's already significant Missile Resist and Defense stats or simply kill them off with Fire's numerous damage spells. If you want to be even faster and more aggressive you could attack Balkoth with Fire Elementals from a Level 1 Tower, they have practically as much Attack as a Demon, but there's a good chance Balkoth will kill several of them with spells since the Elementals have 18 HP vs the Demon's 46.
Water: Priestess Lord, research Attack spells up to Freeze which should also give you Blood Lust and Quicksilver and Rust. Get Water Elementals to gank Balkoth when he unfreezes with the help of those stat spells too. Alternatively you could combo cast Freeze and Steamcloud on one of your own units. Freeze prevents all physical damage and Steamcloud causes 3 damage per hit to enemies that attack the effected unit. Cast these spells together on a valuable champion at the front of your combat group and you'll get Balkoth hurting himself as he strikes your Frozen ally. Balkoth's Scythe gives him a random chance of doing a one-hit-kill with each of his regular attacks though and I'm unsure if such a hit will kill through Freeze.
Order: Warrior Lord, Order doesn't have any special tricks and relies on brute force with the high stats on their Knights and stat-boosting spells from their Wizards. There's not really any trick here besides just diligently giving experience to your barracks and researching Order's Attack-boost spells Righteous Cause and, if you have time, Crusade. Remember to construct the Cathedral of Knighthood Great Temple building and use if to give your Knights an extra level up. Despite the lack of gimmicks a mass of high-Level Knights boosted by spells and a Paladin's Rally ability should be able to survive long enough to surround Balkoth and overpower him in melee.
Chaos: Mage Lord, Chaos has no super-reliable easy options but can win decisively with a bit of luck. Level up your Shaman Lord ASAP because you'll need your Lord to be higher Level than Balkoth for the best option to have any chance of working. That best option is researching Polymorph Other and casting in on Balkoth to (with some luck) turn him into an easily-killed farm animal and then finishing him off with the Hands of Fate Chaos damage spell. Chaos spells feature random chance failure effects and both of those can potentially backfire, making this far from a full-proof strategy even with perfect player input. An alternative that is a bit more reliable is researching the Fury Blades attack spell and Winds of Change map spell. Cast Winds of Change on Balkoth's location until you get a terrain that will slow him down, like meadow or lava, then attack with your Shaman. Send up some cannon fodder to get Balkoth's attention and as he's stationary while attacking cast Fury Blades on him. With a bit of luck the persistent circling projectile launched by Fury Blades will trap Balkoth in a hit-stun loop or at least do enough damage that he can be finished off with Hands of Fate when he tries to flee. Other than that Chaos has no good options, its easily the weakest Faith in a standard game.

2024.05.17 00:35 forcejafterhours SSD Optimized DST check fail but no apparent

So I decided to do a system test to ensure that everything was working well with Kolibri II (Laptop name). However, I received this error message with this particular failure ID (see pictures). I then opted to do a hard drive/SSD test and got the same result. I scanned the QR code that would lead me to HP Support and according to the report, the SSD installed has a critical failure and requires replacement. The thing is... as far as I know, Kolibri isn't suffering from any of the apparent symptoms for failure that would be expected (corrupted files, slow performance, crashes occuring during boot, SSD becoming read-only, etc.) when I installed Crystal Disk Info, everything turned out to be operating normally. I had also checked Computer Management and the SSD's properties and found nothing amiss. So, what gives? 🤔

How to Transfer Files to Shield's External Drive, From a PC Over Home Network.
I Must Be Missing Something. This is What I've Tried.
I'm on the Latest Firmware with Hotfix
  1. Connecting Through Windows File Explorer With Correct Folder Permission. // Result - Windows Says I Don't Have Permission to Access the Files on the Drive and It Acts as Read-Only.
  2. FTP Apps // Result - Either The External Drive Won't Appear in the App or It Says I Lack Permission.
  3. Only Working Method // Disconnect the Drive and Power Supply From the Shield. Bring it Upstairs and Plug Everything into the Computer. Transfer Files, Then Move it Back.
I'm Getting Extremely Conflicted and Outdated information from the web so... can anyone help or know of a proven guide? Thanks for any Assistance
Edit : Added a Screenshot for Context. I Do Remember Reading Something on the nvidia Forums that This is supposed to be fixed with the next stable release, But i can't seem to find that post again so I'm Not Sure If it's True.
Update : Tested with a different, newly formatted 1tb external. File transfer worked with no problems from PC to shield's external drive over the network to folder "NVIDI_SHIELD". The drive or file might be too big or possibly a bug?

2024.05.17 00:06 Fun-Schedule8069 [QCrit] Speculative, OUR SINISTER PEACE, 106k words, 2nd attempt

Hello Pubtips! I am preparing for the query trenches and would like to see your feedback. I thank everyone who has helped with my query so far. Below is my second attempt.
Dear AGENT,
Nicola Dalton hates idly watching the world burn from his window, but he must humor his family. After all, a war disabled modern technology, so Nicola’s family tries to feign normalcy while waiting to be rescued. Meanwhile, Nicola feels compelled to intervene in the rising violence. His family is soon killed by raiders, so he forgoes inaction and vengefully swears to restore peace to his hometown by any means necessary.
He quickly becomes exhausted from fighting alone, so he recruits others to protect the neighborhood, eventually founding the Protectors. However, he gradually loses his idealistic justice as he is faced with reoffending criminals and must decide between mercy or harsh punition. After his organization restores stability in the city, Nicola grows more convinced of tough, unforgiving solutions to crime. Thus, he leads the organization to mature into a republic that brings peace through well-intended yet overbearing justice.
Nicola slowly notices the atrocities carried out by his soldiers and police, but he is furious any time his benevolence is betrayed. Thus, he deepens the severity of criminal punishment, inadvertently exacting the same injustices he once tried to stop. With the arrival of Lijktbeter, his devilishly scheming older brother hellbent on power, Nicola must fight against his own system as he comes to terms with the injustice that lies within justice.
Complete at 106,000 words, Our Sinister Peace is a standalone speculative fiction novel with series potential. It combines elements of When the English Fall with the morally-driven protagonist of One Second After. It also has influence from real-world events and experiences from my background such as the coups in COUNTRY1 and COUNTRY2 police violence.
(Personalization for why I am querying)
(Optional Bio depending on agent’s instructions) I am an COUNTRY2 who has published 7 scientific non-fiction articles in several university magazines such as MAGAZINE1 and MAGAZINE2. In the former, I served as Writer Chair and in the latter, I am currently Senior Editor. This will be my first work of fiction, but I have drafted 8 other standalone novels to refine my writing.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

(I have included my first page below.)
The knives are curled up, the spoons bent, and the forks twisted into loops. Sparks fly as I drag a stone across them. Dad beckons. Together we pick up and rotate the door. “We can straighten out the nails later.” Mom mops the red stained floor to the sound of rolling metal. A loud thud echoes. We toss away the fridge’s crumpled door. My sister stands a chair up, having tied its legs in place. “It’s getting dark, can you light the candles?” The room glistens orange, with shadows dancing, flickering. Cracked porcelain rings gently. “We can figure it out tomorrow.” We sit in silence, staring at nothing, hesitating.
Finally, I stab. It is cold. The silence is pierced by clinking knives. My sister, Almadi, just twirls her bent three-pronged fork. I can hear the sounds of each bite, each swallow, as every movement pierces the deafening silence. First complete as always, I solemnly announce, “Thanks for dinner.” I begin wiping my dishes clean with a napkin and placing them in the crooked cupboard.
After everyone is finished, we complete our chores and then head to the living room. We sit, with a few half-finished sentences occasionally breaking the silence. Dad leans back on his sofa chair, almost as if he was watching the mangled television through its cracked glass. “Should we do something?” I ask. “Sleep.” Mom replies. We nod and I head upstairs with my sister. She sighs and patters away without a word. I set down my candle on the lopsided nightstand and watch the flames dance on the ceiling. I lie down and puff out the candle, becoming invisible in the darkness.
(I received feedback to change my beginning to in-media-res. Thus, my first few pages have drastically changed. I also stylistically change tense for these 3 paragraphs, returning to past tense afterwards. I repeat this in two other instances in the manuscript. Is tense change considered inappropriate for debut work? The manuscript must be in past-tense since it is narrative history/autobiography, but a few sections are in present tense to give an in the moment feel.)
