2024.05.20 01:42 gamefan5 Recently acquired a Huawei Watch 4 Pro... for 250$
Images:
EcoMilitary 2nd 3rd 4th 5th With my GT4 on the right. I wish I could say that I'm lying but I'm not. I am still pleasantly surprised to this day đ.
And yes, this is an authentic watch. Lightly used. Long story short, the previous owner decided to switch to a Oneplus Watch 2. I suppose he didn't know the worth of this watch đ
.
Been playing with it for nearly a week and I am absolutely in love with it. (I will still keep my Stainless Steel GT4 though.) Seems to be a chinese model since there are a few exclusive apps that you will never find on the international model. Surprisingly the ECG app is present and works, despite not being in a country that supports it. (I don't have the arterial stiffness app though).
Since Standard Mode is HarmonyOS skin 4.0 skin on top of Android 12, there are a few notable features aside from the usual Huawei Health/Fitness features:
- As I mentioned before, ECG and Arterial Stiffness are present, depending on the country
- Skin temperature is present but it goes one step further by estimating your body temperature from it as well. Should be useful for those suffering from a fever
- Full keyboard replies for messaging apps (The speech to text is surprisingly great)
- WiFI and eSIM (the latter depends on the country/market.
- A higher number of apps available from Huawei's AppGallery
- Sideloading apps is possible. You can also install GSpace to have access to WearOS apps. This may decrease the battery life, however.
The battery does last around 4-5 days in its Standard Mode (HarmonyOS Android).
I'm currently testing the Ultra Battery Saving mode and I am impressed: It is indeed a full GT mode (HarmonyOS LiteOS firmware) tucked in, you can still download and load watchfaces under that mode. (The Huawei Watch 3 Pro version was much more basic and limited and wouldn't allow new watchfaces in it.)
A lot of the same features as standard mode are present. But there are a few noticeable things absent.
Here is what YOU CANNOT DO in Ultra Battery Saving Mode, and some of the differences:
- WIFI and eSIM(LTE) aren't present, obviously
- You can't reply to notifications with a keyboard, only with preset replies.
- The weather provider is different, at least in my case. For this mode, it's Accuweather.
- You can't use apps downloaded from the AppGallery or apps sideloaded from other sources. You have to switch to Standard mode to access them
- The skin temperature feature isn't working for some reason. I don't know if it's just me or just in general.
Huawei claims 21 days of battery life and to be frankly honest, so far, it seems honestly likely.
I honestly love this thing, it really looks beautiful and I've had people compliment my wrist with it.
The only gripes I have with it, so far:
- The absence of a proper calendar app. The GT4 includes one that fully syncs your calendar events in it.
- Sleep Tracking with it is rather iffy. The sensors seem to be much less sensitive. It usually starts tracking an hour or so, later. The GT4 has never failed to properly pick up my sleep/waking up times and napping times.

- 5-18-2024 HAVE SMARTPHONES KILLED THE ART OF CONVERSATION? Once upon a time, human relationships unfolded without smartphones. The reality may be hard to recall, so profoundly have these devices transformed the way we relate to the world and others in fifteen years or so. As an anthropologist interested in modernity, I am particularly preoccupied by the impact of these devices on our conversations. In my book, âThe End of the Conversation? Words in a Spectral Societyâ (French original: âLa fin de la conversation? La parole dans une sociĂ©tĂ© spectraleâ), I investigate the pernicious effects of this technology
- 5-18-2024 HOW TO REWARD EMPLOYEES FAIRLY AND IMPROVE TEAM DYNAMICS A recent study has shed light on how to reward employees more fairly and improve team dynamics. The study found that when less skilled employees report their performance voluntarily, they often exaggerate their achievements and ask for higher bonuses. These employees also tend to put in less effort and are less concerned about fairness when sharing their contributions voluntarily. Interestingly, the researchers discovered that requiring employees to explain their contributions leads to fairer decisions about bonus allocation and improves
- 5-19-2024 BILLIONS ARE SPENT ON EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY, BUT WE DONâT KNOW IF IT WORKS During the COVID lockdowns, schools and universities worldwide relied on education technologyâedtechâto keep students learning. They used online platforms to give lessons, mark work and send feedback, used apps to teach and introduced students to programs that let them work together on projects. In the aftermath of school closures, the market for edtech has kept on growing. The value of the sector is projected to rise to US$132.4 billion globally by 2032. The problem is that we donât know very much about how effective many edtech apps or programs
- 5-19-2024 STUDY FINDS CONSUMERS WILLING TO PAY MORE FOR NATURALLY COLORED COTTON CLOTHING Research has looked at consumer attitudes toward naturally colored cotton clothing. The study found that amid increasing concerns over the environmental impact of conventional cotton processing, consumers are willing to pay more for a greener T-shirt.
- 5-18-2024 HOW AI IS SHAPING THE FUTURE OF SALES STRATEGIES In the fast-evolving business landscape, artificial intelligence, or AI, is taking center stage in transforming sales processes, making them more efficient and responsive to the dynamic market demands. A new University of Alabama at Birmingham study titled âAI in Sales: Laying the Foundations for Future Researchâ highlights the pivotal role AI is playing in reshaping the sales sector.
- 5-18-2024 WHEN CONSUMERS WOULD PREFER A CHATBOT OVER A PERSON Actually, sometimes consumers donât want to talk to a real person when theyâre shopping online, a new study suggests. In fact, what they really want is a chatbot that makes it clear that it is not human at all. In a new study, researchers found that people preferred interacting with chatbots when they felt embarrassed about what they were buying onlineâitems like antidiarrheal medicine or, for some people, skin care products. âIn general, research shows people would rather interact with a human customer service agent
- 5-18-2024 NEW STUDY REVEALS THE POTENTIAL OF COACHING EMPLOYEES TO DRIVE NEW STRATEGIC IDEAS In the landscape of modern business, inclusion isnât just a buzzwordâitâs a strategic imperative. Companies like IBM, Volkswagen and Starbucks are moving to more participative strategy development approaches that reflect a growing understanding of the importance of diversity in fostering innovative and creative strategic ideas. Yet the outcomes of inclusive strategy processes often fall short of expectations. A new study in the Strategic Management Journal sheds light on why that may be. In their study of an inclusive strategy process in a large insurance company, Violetta Splitter, along with co-authors
- 5-18-2024 RESEARCHERS SHOW WAYS TO PROPEL PRODUCT SUCCESS New research explores the key strategies that firms should adopt when launching a new product. The researchers say that these strategies depend on the current market view of the product and the firm. Employing the correct one, which might sometimes be collaborating with overtly demanding reviewers or instituting rather challenging pilot tests, ensures that the product launch will go as successfully as possible.

For example, English speakers have two words for foot and leg, whereas other languages express the concepts foot and leg in one word.
- 5-18-2024 STUDY FINDS AVOIDING SOCIAL MEDIA BEFORE AN ELECTION HAS LITTLE TO NO EFFECT ON PEOPLEâS POLITICAL VIEWS In the weeks before and after the 2020 presidential election, researchers ran a number of tests to try to understand how much Facebook and its corporate cousin, Instagram, may be contributing to the nationâs political divide. One of those experimentsâled by Matthew Gentzkow and Hunt Allcott, economics professors at Stanford Universityâcentered on more than 35,000 Facebook and Instagram users who were paid to stay off the platforms in the run-up to Election Day. Thereâs a lot that researchers could glean from the social media hiatus, including whether peopleâs political attitudes
- 5-18-2024 USING COMPUTER MODELS TO UNDERSTAND THE DEBATE ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE Different types of noise and how they act inside or outside the social interaction process. Cognitive biases are among the most important factors that prevent people from changing their minds. Climate change deniers and climate activists often tend to accept only information that confirms their respective opinions on the matter. However, opinion dynamics are also influenced by a factor that the researchers call âambiguity noise.â Unlike biases, ambiguity noise is variable, depends on many random factors, and leads to inconsistent judgment.

- 5-18-2024 WHY STUDENTS CHEAT IN ONLINE EXAMS Media psychologists at the University of Cologne have studied how studentsâ individual needs, conceptions and reasons relate to cheating behavior in online exams. Online exams have become a more common type of exam at universities, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. They are advantageous because they save time and offer flexibility. However, cheating attempts present a big challenge for lecturers. This is why universities have been working on ways to thwart cheating in online exams by putting organizational and technical measures into place.

Seventy-eight percent of people in England and Wales think that crime has gone up in the last few years, according to the latest survey. But the data on actual crime shows the exact opposite. As of 2024, violence, burglary and car crime have been declining for 30 years and by close to 90%, according to the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW)âour best indicator of true crime levels. Unlike police data, the CSEW is not subject to variations in reporting and recording. The drop in violence includes domestic violence
- 5-18-2024 MOST CRIME HAS FALLEN BY 90% IN 30 YEARSâSO WHY DOES THE PUBLIC THINK ITâS INCREASED? Can we truly assess whether someone finds us attractive? Cognitive psychologist Iliana Samara discovered that men, in particular, tend to overestimate the interest of their date. She explains why this may be. âImagine you walk into a packed bar, looking for a date. Your eyes are naturally drawn to attractive faces. If youâre a man and find someone attractive, youâre more likely to assume theyâre also interested in you. âThen, when you approach them, whether youâre a man or woman
- 5-18-2024 MOST CRIME HAS FALLEN BY 90% IN 30 YEARSâSO WHY DOES THE PUBLIC THINK ITâS INCREASED? Having more education has long been linked to better individual health. But those benefits are also contagious, say the co-authors of a new working paper. âItâs not just that the individuals who have more years of education are in better health,â said David M. Cutler, Otto Eckstein Professor of Applied Economics. âItâs that even people with fewer years of educationâfor example, people with just a high school degreeâare in better health when they live around

Many people practice mindfulness or self-compassion techniques in their everyday life as part of their normal self-care routine. Although many studies support the individual benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion, few have focused on romantic relationship outcomes. A new study published in Personal Relationships has examined how mindfulness, self- and other-compassion, and need fulfillment relate to relationship and sexual satisfaction in midlife married couples. The study involved survey results from 640 adults aged 40â59 years who were residing in Canada and were married. Mindfulness is the nonjudgmental attention and awareness to
- 5-18-2024 HOW ENTERTAINMENT BRANDS ARE ADAPTING TO GENERATION ALPHA Growing up, did you play with hyper-sexualized Barbie dolls, boys-only Thomas the Tank Engine trains, or slim, white Disney princesses? If so, youâre not alone, but this is no longer the case for Generation Alpha. Brands like Mattel, once criticized for promoting unrealistic body standards and gender stereotypes, now portray themselves as feminist and progressive. The recent Barbie movie serves as a prime example of this shift. Millennial parents are actively seeking out toys, books and movies to educate their children about life and teach them values that align

- 5-18-2024 STUDY FINDS SAYING âPLEASEâ MAY NOT BE SO POLITE IN EVERYDAY REQUESTS By kindergarten age, most children have been taught that âpleaseâ is a magic word. âPleaseâ is an expression of politeness that shows courtesy and respect, turning a potential demand into a request that willâpoof!âmagically be granted. But a new study on the ways people make requests of one another suggests that âpleaseâ might not be an all-purpose marker of politeness, but rather a more focused, strategic tool to manage frictions or obstacles among family members, friends and even coworkers.

2024.05.19 21:12 Govhousing Rafah
Hey all, Non-Israeli here. There have been news about USA opposing Israel ops in Rafah. IDF finding tunnels from Rafah to Egypt. Hamas regrouping in north. I have couple of questions: 1. Given couple of bombastic statements from Bibi and Gallant, why is IDF not starting operations in Rafah ? It appears the longer they take, more time Hamas has to recoup itself, resulting in longer and more expensive war. Is it because of Biden ? Is it because Bibi doesnât war to end, least he loses power in new elections and he will be imprisoned ? 2. Chinese have been suppressing Uyghurs. Russia has been bombing Chechnya. Pakistan has been using military to attack civilians in Balochistan and border areas of Afghanistan. Why do we see protests in US universities just over Israel defending itself ?
Apologies if these have been discussed earlier, but I have not been able to find answers to any of the above questions.

2024.05.19 19:19 Due_Assumption_27 In retrospect I'm thankful for the COVID scam
Iâm thankful in retrospect for the whole COVID scam. It provided insight into human nature and the structure of the modern world that would have been unbelievable without seeing it play out in front of me. It played out like a really bad horror story written by an idiot; if I had read the plot of it I would have thought it too stupid to be published.
Who would have believed that the whole world (with tiny resistance by Sweden) would act in coordination pushing the same exact policies, procedures, shutdowns and forced vaccinations (revealing that nations are mere inferior subsidiaries of global control)? Who would have believed that the vast majority of people would go along with face diapers, shutdowns, and $11 trillion in monetary printing, not to mention injecting themselves with totally untested and ultra-dangerous mRNA âvaccinesâ because the media screamed at them loud enough to? And that people would basically universally prefer to forget about the experience than to learn any lessons from it? Who would forget China going along with the whole scam by promoting fake videos of people dropping dead in the streets?
To be clear, because I keep seeing it in the news and in âright wingâ blogs: there was no âChinese lab leak.â COVID has never been isolated and the PCR tests, per its creator, are a wildly inappropriate test for testing for so-called "COVID". 2020 flu incidents were recorded as zero. Hospitals were incentivized to label everything a COVID death. COVID is simply rebranded flu, which kills somewhere between 70,000-100,000 people in the U.S. alone each year.
God works in mysterious ways and my own spiritual development has been supercharged by this enormous scam and horror.

2024.05.19 19:10 earthquake2k12 Male Semi-formal or Cocktail Black Attire (guests are encouraged to wear the color black)
These are the instructions for a wedding I am invited to, but not participating in. I read this as "black suit with a different color tie." I do not own a black suit, I own a nice dark gray suit. I briefly went suit shopping and don't really wanna spend $400 on something I will wear once over the next 4 years or so.
For context, I am military and am typically wearing a uniform to formal events. In every other situation, my dark grey suit is appropriate. But they specified the color black. The groom is a close friend (also military) and certainly doesn't care. I don't want to throw off whatever color coordination pictures the bride is hoping to take though.
Option 1: Bite the bullet don't be a cheap skate and buy a black suit.
Option 2: Wear black pants and a black button shirt (lower than semi-formal, but I imagine every single guest will not be in a suit).
Option 3: Wear the dark gray suit
Option 4: Buy an Amazon black suit that certainly won't fit very well, but who cares because the jacket will come off after the formal part of the wedding for dancing and I likely won't be in any official pictures. Return Amazon suit to it's chinese seller after the wedding.

2024.05.19 17:45 raquel18ls The Starset lore part IV: A Brief History of the Future
Hi, guys! I'm back. I've just finished reading Starset's new novel,
A Brief History of the Future, and i
really needed to share it.
Some of you may know me from my previous posts on the Starset lore:
Now that I've read this book, I want to sum up what we have
now. Keep in mind that, for obvious reasons, this post is
all spoiler content. If you plan to read the book(s) I encourage you to do so, because I'm unveiling some of the main "plot-twists" in the second book. I won't be writing a literal summary of the book's plot (I will focus on the
content more than in the "
drama"), but key elements of it will appear. Also, I'm taking for granted you are already familiar with the contents in
The Prox Transmissions -if not, I recommend you reading my post or just dropping this post altogether and go read the book!
If you have already read the books, don't plan to read them or don't care about the spoilers, stay with me along this long post because you will discover much about
Divisions,
Horizons... and what's coming next!!
Let's go then!
In a unknown year the novel starts in a world dominated by a state called the
New East. it's not explicit in the book, but we have reasons to identify the
New East with China: it is a current superpower and the powerful people in control have Chinese names. This state is governed by a
Governing Committee, composed by Ministers that stay in charge for 5 years, with an exception: the Minister of Security, also known as
MinSec. He is the head of the New East's secret police and he is to remain in charge for life.
Prior to 2024,
Aston Wise (remember he was one of the protagonists of the previous novel!) is locked up by the US Government. They force him to create the BMI and its
Architecture. In 2024, as I have said, the New East manages to obtain it and the big war starts. This part of the story is also explained deeper in a video (called "
Initial Debriefing", available in Starset's YouTube channel since September 9th, 2021), with some minor incongruencies:
In the year 2010, the US Defense Advance Research Projects Agency -or DARPA- began work on a neural link system known as the "Brain Machine Interface" developed under the highest levels of secrecy. This technology was to be used in covert espionage campaigns with the goal of giving the US a major advantage in the ever-growing cyber warfare battlefield. The intention was to use the "BMI" on unsuspecting foreign agents, giving US Intelligence a remote line into their minds. Launched in 2020 to great success, the BMI provided a window into the intentions and secrets of numerous potential adversaries. Then, in 2021, a botched operation allowed this technology to fall into the hands of an undisclosed state who would then use it agains the US itself for over a decade. This state -which came to be known as the New East- used this technology to syphon intellectual property and assert control over the US, allowing it to rise swiftly as a global superpower. In the early 2030s, the crippled US launched an attack to the New East. This was quickly thwarted. However, as the New East was fully aware and prepared, in the end, the US and its allies capitulated and became known simply as the New West. Citizens of the New West, now mostly impoverished laborers, were offered BMI implantation -sold on the wonders of its amazing benefits. Eventually though, all were made to comply. Only then did the true goals of the New East become apparent.
The
New West is a
de facto and
de iure protectorate. The New West has its own local police -that dealt with murder and robbery-, but the military and, most important, the
Civil Authorities (CA), are controlled by
MinSec -focused on
thought crime.
Soon after the end of the war, some people were drafted for the
reclamation in Virginia by the New East army. This was a forced-labor suicide mission because it was a fallout zone. The goal was the recovery of documents from the US, such as blueprints for advanced weapons and intel. Those who survived, developed
NeuroTIDS (neural tissue interface degeneration syndrome) because of the radiation.
Once in control of the US (now New West), the New East implanted into
all citizens the BMI. Now, people deal with three layers of reality: unaltered reality (
UR), augmented reality (
AR) and virtual reality (
VR). Considering the BMI, there are three states:
- BMI glowing white (normal state: people are in UR with elements of AR).
- BMI glowing blue (also called frosting: people are in VR having some pleasant experience, while looking absent and apathetic in the outside). See an example of person frosting in the Diving Bell music video.
- BMI glowing red (also called supplication).
(There also exists the
Everything Machine in this storyline. Indeed, people ate only printed food, as real food as reserved for the New East).
On top of this, thereâs an intelligent algorythm or artificial intelligence in the Architecture, called the
Overseer. It is capable of detecting thought crimes by accessing a person's sensory input and also altering their perceptions (for example, blurring texts from banned books). When a thought crime is detected, CAs intervene and turn the perpetrator into a supplicant.
Supplicants are stuck in VR prisons while their bodies wander in the streets or are collected and put into "corrals". See an example of a supplication facility in
Where the Skies Ends music video.
The protectorate of the New East upon the New West is mantained thanks to the
Quantum Comunicator, which keeps both connected and also connected to the Architecture
On the other hand, there's a rebel network still in function. They manage to meet and develop their plans by
modding their BMIs, so that they become undetectable under the eyes of the Overseer. Their plan is to trap the MinSec and use their credentials to get access to the Architecture and destroy it from the inside.
(In
Manifest music video you can see examples of people frosting, people supplicated, the modding minor surgery, the rebels, the CAs using their "freezing" weapons and supplicating civilians and a bigwig from the New East, maybe the MinSec himself).
Also, it is said that the New East didn't manage to conquer all the Old West (US) territories. There's rumours about the socalled
Western Territories, free land where some former rebels already live, though its real existence it's in never confirmed in book. In
The Breach music video we can see how a family leaving in the New West takes the opportunity of escaping into the Western Territories during some sort of shutdown.
The New West capital is established in
Philadelphia, where the events in
A Brief History of the Future are set. Here's the Quantum Communication Center and the
New West Center for Advanced Innovation (CAI), where the most brilliant programming students are sent to develop their skills and work for the New West/East. One of this students is one of the protagonists of this book,
Thomas Bell (again, someone whose name we are already familiar...), who quickly proves to be the best one and gets to be chosen as the Director's assistant. Eventually we get to discover the Director is Aston Wise and later on we find out he is the
Architect himself.
A feature or app of the BMI that will reveal crucial to the plot is the
Shadowcast: one can frost but, instead of being conscious in a VR, "enters" inside a celebrity's mind for an hour and experiences all they are experiencing live (the user is passive and can only perceive, but not intervene or influence the shadowcast celebrity into doing anything). You can see an example of this in
Symbiotic music video, where the user is finally able to successfully
Occupy the body of the celebrity. In the book, when this happens, the person occupied has their BMI turned
purple.
In the book,
Occupation will be a tool used by Bell and Wise, but also by the government, in an attempt of using the supplicated bodies to their own purposes. The original project launched by the New East and commissioned to the Director of the CAI (Aston Wise), was called by Wise himself '
Project X'. New East wanted to present it to the citizens as a way of emancipating from work: while working, you can let yourself be occupied by the Overseer, who wil perform your job while you can be having fun in VR. In
Icarus music video you can see an ad made by the New East to promote the "benefits" of this technology (called
Werk here); the other ads are based on previous BMI technology (AR, VR and Shadowcast). (Fun fact: have you noticed that the actor in 3:12 is the same from the
Ricochet music video?).
As I said in the beginning, it is not my goal to sum up the book's plot and even though I have already spoiled you much info and some plot-twists, I'm not telling you here how the story of the protagonists develops and how it ends. However, I
can't refrain from telling you this: the last page of the book has a
QR that redirects to a video that has me
really excited.
In the video, we see a man. He tells us it is
2048. In spring
2026, the New East took over the US. But...
guess who's back! Oh, yes,
the Order! Or rather they were there
all along. In fact, the man who's talking to us is
Stephen Browning! On July 4th of 2026, after the New East invasion, the Order tried to launch a spacerocket to get to "a lonely planet" (
Prox!), but it was intercepted by the New East and then the army destroyed their base, so they lost all hope in a future on another planet. However, they managed to hide a "
time mechanism" (I guess the same they had in
The Prox Transmissions) and, finally, sent a message to
2024, warning us about this future that awaits us. Then he sais:
Dear Order friends, the time has finally arrived. We're headed to space. We're going go Prox.
This announcement matches Starset's video from six months ago ("
It begins. And it ends. Now."), where we see images of astronauts and spacerockets, evoking space travel.
Wow! Did you miss that "space-y" aesthetic, plots and sound from
Transmissions and
Vessels? Because it sounds like we're getting them back! Note that at the end of this video, the three dots of the BMI are occupied by three symbols:
- The bottom one is the symbol of the Order, appears at the beginning of each chapter in The Prox Transmissions.
- The middle one is the symbol of Divisions album, I'd say it's a symbol of the rebels.
- The top one is... unknown? It is quite similar to me to the symbol in Faultline, but I guess it represents the "following chapter"? Who knows.
It also matches the music video for Starset's last single,
Brave New Word! And there's more news: the end of the video linked in
A Brief History Of the Future ends with a "to be continued in
Spring 2025".
So... Again, there are some questions left unanswered (and I love that!): How are both books linked? Are they the same Aston Wise and Thomas Bell, but in an alternative timeline? From where will the story continue? (The Order in 2048 colonising Prox?). I'm soooo excited to learn what's coming next and to listen Starset's next album (I
love Brave New World).
Let me know about your impressions, opinions, theories... feel free to add any info I could have missed, to correct any piece I could be mistaken about, etc. Thank you so much for your attention (I literally created this account only to write these Starset lore posts I feel very invested to and English isn't even my first or second language), I hope you enjoyed it and found it useful!!

2024.05.19 17:33 InotiaKing Who Knew Statues Could Be Such Divas? (Act I)
| https://preview.redd.it/1oqpqpbe8e1d1.png?width=1914&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6dd9d42e82c0db0924cf6d712f582db77d8ba97 What's up guys! It's your friendly Genshin overthinker Inotia King. As always before we begin I just want to make sure new readers have checked out my first topic which is the basis for all my theories. So if you haven't checked that out yet please click here. The new story's come and gone now and it seems to just be a reinforcement for what we've seen previously. We did already know that Remus tried to pull a Deshret but now we're seeing how far people go to achieve this flawed idea. Both Remus and Deshret before him realized just a little too late that preserved eternity was never going to work and dissolving everybody's consciousnesses into a collective goo was a bad idea. The Golden Slumber didn't save anybody and neither would melting people into Ichor, shoving their bodies into statues and then shoving them into a magical musical score. Ei lucked out in this sense. She had Yae pulling out all the stops to prevent it, using the Traveler to push Ei into place for Makoto to finally show her what she'd learned herself. So while it isn't groundbreaking to know that Boethius was wrong just like Rene would also be wrong centuries later I think this quest series gave us a few more details and showcased more of the research the miHoYo devs do for these regions. Therefore just like I did last year with Farakhkert I want to discuss a few of them. https://preview.redd.it/3et7oxo79e1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=044bdf3b50882942127e2457a31d3298f8edc333 https://preview.redd.it/y1qe7t1x8e1d1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=670151ea2bada74662e50f24ed78a153e73d8887 We've actually known about this city (town?) for a long time. I think it's actually the first Fontaine city we learn about, all the way back when Inazuma first released. I don't think anybody really thought too much about it either but now it's name really makes sense. Petrichor is made from the two Greek words petr and ichor so in terms of Genshin it's very on the nose. Remus literally turned his people into ichor by dissolving their Oceanid bodies with the Primordial Sea and then shoving the resulting goo into statues, the petr or stone. In real life petrichor is just the smell of rainwater on dirt and the word ichor is actually what the Greeks called the blood of gods. From a Genshin perspective it was in a way what Remus intended the Ichor to be, a way for humanity to break free from fate which they believed was the power the gods had over them. But what is actually new is where Petrichor is. Previously we didn't even know that Fontaine was on an artificially raised platform so there was no reason to believe Petrichor would fall into some weirdly separated space yet still be called part of the region. Our oldest information about it was just that it's waters were very pure and it was beautiful. Yeah that's pretty much all of Fontaine though. In fact we knew so little about Petrichor back then that even by v4.3 Xavier, who is a local never talked about how it wasn't actually located on the Fontaine plateau but rather some separated area where even the drown-proof aspect of Fontaine's waters didn't reach. So what is this area of Fontaine called? Nostoi which is Greek for "return." In our world it was part of the story about the Trojan War, preceding Homer's the Odyssey and acts like a prologue for that part of the story, the return of the Greek heroes besides Odysseus back from the war. (There's an "Ajax" who dies in this story though he's not the same Ajax that Childe is based on.) Side Note: This timeline placement might also be important but that's a topic for another day. There's actually a French connection to Petrichor too probably to justify it's inclusion in a French region lol. If you talk to Xavier's childhood friend (and girl next door) Goldoni, her possessing Remurian tells you about Petrocorii a territory of Remuria that fell to barbarians. In our world the petrocorii were Gauls that opposed the Roman Republic during Caesar's time. Unlike petr-ichor, petro-corii is Gallic for four (petro) armies (corios) with corii acting as a common suffix for their tribes. Actually this connection to Gauls keeps going. In the same dialogue that Goldoni tells us about Petrocorii she name drops Lucius Septimius Sebelius which is a reference to Emperor Lucius Septimius Severus. (Sebelius is likely just an intentional bastardization of Severus but Sebelius is a real surname too.) Severus is notable for being the founder of the last Roman Dynasty before the Crisis of the Third Century, when Rome was temporarily defeated by the Gallic Empire. I actually brought up this part of Roman history in another topic about something that should have been totally unrelated lol. It was about how religion was historically tied to currency on our side of the world. Side Note: Goldoni herself may be a reference to the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. I bring this up because it's a common theme when it comes to Remuria but that's also a topic for another day. Finally when possessed Goldoni calls Xavier, Xaverius. This is a reference to Franciscus Xaverius or Saint Francis Xavier, the first missionary that went to Japan before it went into Sakoku. The name Xavier is interesting by itself though. It actually predates most of these references because it's a Latinized version of the Paleo-European (Basque) surname Echevarria meaning new house. The Basques are the last surviving ethnic group native to Europe (current Europeans are all some form of Indo-European, including the Celts, Romans, Germanics) and their modern populations are located in Spain and France, influencing both nations over time. Who knew our engineefilmmaker would be such an interesting reference to his hometown which also is a preceding ancient culture that heavily influenced the modern French-inspired one? Side Note 1: After completing the Remuria World Quest it's discovered that Petrichor is stagnating. The elderly are increasingly closed off and the young find the town boring and are starting to leave. This might be a reference to the Vatican which has the world's oldest median age. As the headquarters of Catholicism it's also very traditional and young people have been leaving it too, though part of the reason is disillusionment of religion over the many scandals plaguing the church. (That said the young Petrichorians might wanna stick around. If Mecantre and Babisse are brainstorming what I think they are then Petrichor might become really interesting one day.) Side Note 2: Geographically Petrichor would more likely be based on Corsica but there is no shortage of self-importance as a stereotype of the Corsicans. No young people are going to ditch that town anytime soon. It was the birthplace of Napoleon after all. However that could actually be the link to Petrichor, to the pre-World Quest version where everybody is a proud Remurian. According to a friend I have who is part French, as arrogant as the rest of the world see the French, the French see the Corsicans. And certainly that was the vibe we got upon speaking to all of the Remurians. https://preview.redd.it/1jm7n40dee1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=3747aeab86048a6a0dbc56f2f210c44a40d40f9b https://preview.redd.it/25piz3xdee1d1.png?width=1758&format=png&auto=webp&s=146010da267fa6b19482b04f3d7d8a709cedacdf Yes the previous section was just the name of the region and all the stuff we can gather from just that. That's how miHoYo's devs do things haha Now for a speed round. Hortus is the Proto-Indo-European for garden while euergetis is Greek for a worker who does good work. Together it probably means Garden of the Good Worker. However Euergetis can also be a title applied to good leaders specifically female leaders of the Hellenistic world. (Euergetes is the masculine form) Cleopatra III was also called Cleopatra Euergetis for example. The "garden" can only be reached by doing the World Quest so it's likely this garden honors Sybilla who does have the merits to justify the title. With Caesareum Palace I'm pretty sure miHoYo was going for the specific Caesareum of Alexandria so they mean a temple but that's not was Caesareum actually means. It just means Julius Caesar who of course doesn't exist in Genshin. (although going off of Rene's Root Cycle stuff he's supposed to show up sooner or later lol) Collegium Phonascorum is probably the easiest to match with the theme. It's just a group of music teachers. Since the whole thing was getting people ready for the Grand Symphony it makes sense to have some teachers teaching the music stuff. That said it's not actually a group at all. It's the name of a place and that makes sense with its real name è°ćŸéą or Courtyard of Harmony. Actually è°ćŸ is really fitting. The term does mean harmony but in both the sense of being united in peace and in terms of musical harmony, being in tune with each other. It's a very nice allusion to what the Grand Symphony was meant to do. That said Phobos is such a red flag lol! Phobos aka phobia is the God of Fear. (alongside brother Deimos) No wonder this genius plan failed. https://preview.redd.it/k2lmfvgafe1d1.png?width=1364&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd55e79583981fdd6931c63f78390870e79fedf2 Wasn't Fortuna the man's boat? Can't have a physical device double as an abstract concept my friends. That said if Fortuna actually means fate then it fits even better with the Stella Fortuna thing Ashikai came up with before, but she'd have to forego the connection with sun gods. Sebastos is the Greek version of Augustus. But I don't think Sebastos Remus is correct syntax. If this was Latin then honorifics come after the name so Remus Augustus. It would be just like the Guuji Yae issue. In English the localization team went with Guuji Yae but Raiden Shogun. Raiden Shogun is correct but because of that the correct syntax would be Yae Guuji, surnames followed by titles. In Greek we have Oedipus Rex or Oedipus Tyrannus so the titles do come after the name and therefore it should be Remus Sebastos. But I read somewhere that modern Greek puts the titles first like keerie Remus would be Mr. Remus and not Remus keerie. If there are Greeks reading this please advise thanks! Osse the cat first named himself Ouranides of Ouranopolis. Ouranides is just the name for the first generation of Titans because they were the children of Ouranos. I'm not sure what that was trying to reference for the game. Ouranos would be Saturn so he's one of the Classical Planets that have come up before. It is interesting to note that the children of the sea, the Oceanides were the second generation of Titans. Maybe Osse was trying to suggest that Remurians were the first generation of Fontainians while the ones we know of today (the former Oceanid humans) are the second? Anyway Ouranopolis is a real place or it was. It's just south of Macedonia. Today there's a small town there called Ouranopoli with a very lovely beach. Pretty sure that's not what Remus was going for when he called it the city of the future. And of course we learn that our keerie Ouranides is really Cassiodor based on Magnus Aurelius Cassiodorus who was born in Scylletium. Probably just a cute reference. Scylla himself is a reference to a monster from the Odyssey sometimes described like a hydra. (S)he was the lesser of two evils because the seemingly weaker Charybdis sucked up water and anything that happens to be floating on it. We have a reference to Charybdis too all the way back in the Narzissenkreuz World Quest when we go to Fort Charybdis Ruins. Anyway Cassiodorus was a contemporary of Boethius and actually replaced him as magister officiorum when he was accused and executed for conspiracy against Rome. Gee if only Remus had let Romulus run things huh? The Romurian Empire would've seen Boe-boe coming a mile away. That said his charges were trumped up. Real life Boethius was a good guy. He was trying to reunite the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. (albeit it probably wasn't going to happen since the "Western Roman Empire" we're talking about is Germanic Rome and even today we have trouble accepting that Rome.) Cassiodorus himself lasted much longer probably because he was stationed in the Eastern Roman Empire and became more focused on education than politics. Finally, he would retire to Castellum not a golden castellum but a monastery where he continued supporting education. Before we dive into the Faded Castle part there are NPCs that are also significant. First you have Contarini Tiepolo a cop whose name is actually made up of two surnames from important Venetian families. She interpreted some of her lingering memories from being possessed as the Liliacruces Ordo. This is another fiction actually. The Liliacruces Ordo is based on the Narzissenkreuz Ordo and was popularized in Fontaine's mystery novels that Paimon likes so much. Her father Tiepolo is the Doge. It's not bit currency but Italian for the Latin Dux or leader. It was a title used in the Republic of Venice and he's actually based on the first Duke of the city-state, Jacopo Tiepolo. Duke is also a form of Dux. https://preview.redd.it/wmrqpr1rge1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=c698b4b939e1f17e689557259a88af8e50722dc7 https://preview.redd.it/utbsvbprge1d1.png?width=1912&format=png&auto=webp&s=875aac379c99d89c07c190a0e2e0a22786fc1168 We already knew Cassiodor was a Harmost but now these Remurians are calling him Dominus. Harmost is Greek, specifically Spartan for a military leader. As it relates to what Remus did during his conquests the Spartans used the Harmosts to undermine Athens push for democracy with the Delian League. Similarly Dominus is a title used by Roman Emperors only after the Crisis of the Third Century when it started declining and becoming more authoritarian. Dominus actually translates to head or master like that of a household. For instance Roman slaves addressed their masters as Dominus. And it's the household thing that plays out in the next term: Domus Aurea or the Golden House. (A dominus is the head of the domus.) It's cute to think this is some kind of link between Remuria and Liyue. Ashikai would love this kind of detail for her God King theory. But I don't think it's what it is. The Golden House in Liyue is literally just the Golden House é»éć± whereas Domus Aurea was é»éç性柫. 性柫 is much more glamorous than ć±. For example the White House is çœćź« and æ
ćź« is the Imperial Palace. The real Domus Aurea relates more to that latter example. It was Nero's second home after he supposedly burned down Rome in 64AD just to have it built. Sounds about right with who we're dealing with in Genshin's version. Side Note: Actually could that be why there's a Caesareum Palace? I mean Caesar did burn down Alexandria. And then after he died Cleopatra built the Caesareum to commemorate him. So it could relate to Nero and then our Remus. What do you guys think? To get to Domus Aurea we're told we need to breach the Initium Iani. Initium means entrance and in the original Chinese it's door which actually works really amusingly with Iani or the Roman god Ianus because he's the God of Doors. Well pretty much all definitions for initium parallel what Ianus was so we could translate Initium Iani as the Doorway of the God of Doorways, Entrance of the God of Entrances, Transition of the God of Transitions, etc. The point was that Ianus represented a change in something like when you change rooms by going through a door, the changes in season every year or changing of the guard between historical periods. It's like the miHoYo devs just wanted to throw in a cute easter egg only nerds would get, the doorway to end all doorways lol Side Note: Also because their names are so close to each other apparently Janus (alt spelling for Ianus) got mistaken for Juno (Iuno is the more accurate spelling*) sometimes confusing which god represented which month. It's funny because I had previously brought up Juno (and the Golden House actually) in that totally unrelated topic about the Gauls and the history of currency. Again this is all probably just coincidental. I just found it funny. \or* Yuno for us anime fans. Rome's version was probably more stable though. Then again she is based on Hera so.... https://preview.redd.it/fu82a3crie1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=447a161bd6c1adea6908d93765ac861528fa6373 And that was all the references I found interesting from the new quest. | https://preview.redd.it/pkcgps4c8e1d1.png?width=1914&format=png&auto=webp&s=312db7fe238952a8655cc950fee2efcea965aeb4 What's up guys! It's your friendly Hoyoverse overthinker Inotia King. As always before we begin I just want to make sure new readers have checked out my older topics which my newer theories are built upon. So for the Genshin ones you can click here. And for the Honkai related ones you can click here. Therefore just like I did last year with Farakhkert I want to discuss a few of them. https://preview.redd.it/artw51tn8e1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e61c4a97f75fe96cbea3e2a7e1da3031bb91e08 https://preview.redd.it/qme302ih9e1d1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c5cd8cc8e95d4b374c26dc3a5eb294a5af2ab5d We've actually known about this city (town?) for a long time. And certainly that was the vibe we got upon speaking to all of the Remurians. https://preview.redd.it/e9ofcf17ee1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=e9190ca1982f1a26a5da9cddd8d0ab759021f829 https://preview.redd.it/3hszv0d9ee1d1.png?width=1758&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8834124768ced11508cd89137bab9521ccec2d2 Yes the previous section was just the name of the region and all the stuff we can gather from just that. (alongside brother Deimos) No wonder this genius plan failed. https://preview.redd.it/0jlk5qv7fe1d1.png?width=1364&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8fe58f58d7b768153daa7568573b3b3fa008410 Wasn't Fortuna the man's boat? Duke is also a form of Dux. https://preview.redd.it/gvsq8yjlge1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d9cf8a593be810b6c1f09a94878311c0740f06c https://preview.redd.it/es9h30umge1d1.png?width=1912&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4840644e1d63c375239b43cccb7063649fdcbb0 Once we dive down it turns out that the little harp thing we grabbed was part of a series that tells Remuria's history in the Ancient Autoharmonic Music Box. The first piece of this melody is the Locus Amoenus or lovely place in Latin. The rest though are actually part of the Sequentia section of Mozart's Requiem which is of course a musical piece to honor the dead and also how we stop the Phobos. Sequentia is followed by the sinners being saved and brought to salvation in Offertorium, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. (Agnus Dei is an allusion to Jesus and there's another really obvious one in this quest too.) Mozart actually didn't complete his Requiem and died while only completing the introduction. Joseph von Eybler is the one that actually finished the Sequentia parts and then a guy by the name of Franz Xaver SĂŒssmayr finished the salvation portions. Franz Xaver. Hmmmm. Yes Franz is Germanic for Franciscus or Francis and Xaver is the Germanic for Xavier. Cute that one of our first Fontainian NPCs and also a native to Petrichor has such a large role in its history, at least in real world references. Before heading into the painting portal thing to get to memory world Remuria we can find a few choice books in this castle. I'll get more into them later but for now there was one term that's interesting. Cunicoricus is the predecessor to Erinnyes of Aremorica. In real life he's Welsh and the adoptive father of King Arthur in local legends. Last week I brought up Clervie and Crucabena who are also Welsh (and Irish) characters and King Arthur has been referenced a few times now with relation to Khaenri'ah. https://preview.redd.it/yfit75i9he1d1.png?width=1908&format=png&auto=webp&s=56556c8d13132fec87e7d29600de5d3ec7300d4e We already knew Cassiodor was a Harmost but now these Remurians are calling him Dominus.

2024.05.19 16:46 xear818 Advaita teacher Robert Adams was really Robert Spiegel
The now deceased guru Robert Adams was Robert Spiegel, and there is a huge history.
Did Robert Adams really meet Ramana Maharshi? The answer is a decisive NO! His claim of being at Ramana Ashram anytime between 1946-1950 has been proven false.
Some things that stand out in this report is that Robert Adams is obviously Robert Spiegel by the pictures. Also, by his marriage certificate to Leonie Maxwell who has been positively identified as Nicole Adams and linked to the
Infinity Institute. The address listed as
â1985 Bathgate Ave. Bronx, N.Y.â on his marriage certificate and military record leaves no room for doubt: we are referring to the correct Robert Spiegel. He was born in 1932, making him 16 years old in 1948.
If you scroll to the bottom and examine his military record he worked from 1948-1951 as a
General Clerk for the Brazilian Trade Bureau in NYC before he began active duty from 1951-1954 where he served in Korea and was awarded a Bronze Medal for valor in combat. He separated from the US Army in Jan. 14, 1954, married Nicole (Leonie) in 1954 and had his first child Sharon (aka Melanie/Amber) in 1957; second daughter Michelle (aka Avantae) in 1960. He obtained a mail order doctorate degree from the âCollege of Divine Metaphysics,â in Indianapolis, Indiana (still around) and traveled the USA lecturing on âScience of the Mind,â and a â7 Day Stop Smokingâ program as Dr. J. Robert Spiegel.
At this writing Nicole Adams (aka Leonie Maxwell) is alive, 95 years old, and in a hospital (Cape Fear Valley Medical Center) in Fayetteville, North Carolina; two of her grandchildren are missing and there is an ongoing police investigation regarding their adoptive mother Michelle/Avantae who now goes by the name Avantae Deven. Avantae continues to post quotes about love, light, and peace, her idyllic childhood with saintly (rarely home) Robert Adams, and human brotherhood while refusing to answer questions about her two missing children âtheir possible whereabouts â or why she waited almost 1.5 years to make her strange 911 call to report them missing.

2024.05.19 15:55 Zombiemoldx Rant
Disclaimer: Opinion ko lang to. If you disagree, then bahala ka sa buhay mo.
ââ
Hindi ko maintindihan. Obviously, China is being so aggressive and trying to be dominant around its sphere of influence pero proven naman na China is a bad partner.
âBut Zombiemold, we actually benefit from them economically!â
A. Sure, we can have âeconomic benefitsâ from them pero we all know naman na debt trap lang naman yan eh. Whatâs that? Shoppee? Lazada? Shein? Dinadagdag niyo lang economy nila. Whatâs worse is that theyâre actually fakes and copies and itâs robbing original manufacturers and companies.
B. Tiktok:
Ito pa. Other countries are already on the process of banning TikTok. There are allegations na TikTok is using spyware or collecting data without our consent and presenting it sa CCP.
âPero Zombiemold, wala naman akong pake if makuha nila information ko. Sino ba naman ako para kunin ng information?â
Tanga. Your personal information can be copied and manipulated. No wonder why some Chinese nationals can get filipino passports and identifications.
C. Influx of Chinese âStudentsâ:
Alam na natin lahat na mostly hindi ito mga legit na Chinese students. These are obviously espionage operations done to survey military bases most especially yung mga EDCA sites. I even believe na some are actually Sleeper Agents who perfectly blend-in in our society. If di mo pa rin gets, theyâre basically undermining our society to social engineer it to make our society in favor of the Chinese.
D. Online Scams/Phishing
If di ako nagkakamali, there was once a news article mga few months ba ata yun (paki verify nalang), whereas nakasabi na there was this company thatâs posing na galing from US who are recruiting military analysts pero it was found out na it was actually from China yung source ng website.
Again, pls beware of whatever you click online.
E. Bots/Trolls
Social Media is full of bots. Mapa Facebook, TwitteX, Instagram, or YouTube man. These bots can pose as real people. Believable ang profile yet you really have to triple check if genuine or legit na tap ba yan yung nag ccoment.
Parang psychological yung tactic ng mga bots. Everytime may napapansin akong posts sa social media na pro-china or sympathetic to its causes or ideals, or basically anything Chinese at all, there are bots na nag sswarm ng comments. Iâm no psychology major or ano ha pero sa tingin ko itâs meant to stir up public opinion.
F. Why are we supporting/patronizing artists/politicians na ineendorse ng China?
Napakahalata naman kung sino ang chinese asset or hindi eh. Ang raming palusot pa under the guise of âxenophobiaâ ulol. Yung iba diyan, kinakampi yung china dahil may anti-US sentiment. Yung iba nga, artista dun pa sa China nag ccontest tapos ano? Promote sa tiktok? Lol what happened to your patriotism?
Ang hirap mong mahalin Pilipinas pero pipiliin pa rin kita!
Anyway, yun lang nakakainis na eh.

2024.05.19 15:08 Ok-Tomorrow9184 Towards World Peace Through AI
GEMINI SAYS:
The advanced AI technologies being developed by Google, particularly those related to large language models and multimodal integration, have significant potential applications in military defense scenarios. These technologies could be leveraged to enhance the capabilities of the American fleet in countering threats from Chinese air forces.
- Enhanced Situational Awareness:
- Information Fusion: AI models could fuse data from diverse sources, such as radar, sonar, satellite imagery, and electronic signals intelligence, to create a comprehensive and real-time picture of the battlespace. This could help identify potential threats, track enemy aircraft movements, and predict their intentions.
- Decision Support: AI could analyze vast amounts of data to provide commanders with actionable insights and recommendations, enabling them to make faster and more informed decisions in complex combat situations.
- Threat Detection and Classification: Advanced AI models could be trained to identify and classify different types of aircraft, missiles, and other threats, allowing for more accurate and timely responses.
- Autonomous Defense Systems:
- Early Warning Systems: AI-powered early warning systems could detect incoming threats more quickly and accurately than human operators, providing valuable time for defensive maneuvers and countermeasures.
- Autonomous Interception: AI could potentially control defensive systems, such as missile interceptors or electronic warfare systems, to autonomously engage and neutralize incoming threats.
- Swarm Tactics: AI could coordinate the actions of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones to create a swarm defense system capable of overwhelming enemy forces.
- Cybersecurity and Electronic Warfare:
- Threat Detection and Mitigation: AI could be used to detect and mitigate cyberattacks or electronic warfare attempts against the fleet's systems, ensuring their resilience and operational effectiveness.
- Deception and Countermeasures: AI could generate deceptive signals or deploy countermeasures to confuse and mislead enemy systems, protecting the fleet from electronic attacks and jamming attempts.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Natural Language Processing: AI-powered language models could facilitate seamless communication and coordination between different units within the fleet, enabling rapid response and coordinated action.
- Translation and Interpretation: AI could translate and interpret communications from different languages or dialects, enhancing interoperability with allied forces and facilitating information gathering from diverse sources.
- Logistics and Maintenance:
- Predictive Maintenance: AI could analyze sensor data from ships and aircraft to predict potential failures or maintenance needs, allowing for proactive maintenance and reducing downtime.
- Supply Chain Optimization: AI could optimize the logistics and supply chain operations of the fleet, ensuring that resources are available where and when they are needed most.
However, the use of AI in military applications also raises ethical concerns, particularly regarding autonomous weapons systems and the potential for unintended consequences. It is crucial to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly, with appropriate safeguards in place to prevent misuse and protect human lives.
The US Department of Defense's (DoD) interest in controlling space resources extends beyond immediate defense needs to encompass a broader strategic vision. This vision includes not only the protection of the American fleet but also the establishment of space-based dominance to monitor terrestrial activities and potentially deter foreign rearmament.
Space-Based Surveillance and Reconnaissance: - Persistent Monitoring: A network of satellites equipped with advanced AI could provide continuous surveillance of critical land areas, tracking military movements, infrastructure development, and resource extraction activities. This real-time intelligence would be invaluable for early warning of potential threats and for informing strategic decision-making.
- Change Detection: AI algorithms could analyze satellite imagery over time to detect subtle changes in land use, infrastructure, or military deployments. This could reveal hidden activities or covert buildups, providing early warning of potential conflicts or violations of international agreements.
- Multi-Spectral Analysis: By utilizing different wavelengths of light, AI-powered satellites could detect and analyze various types of objects and activities, from troop movements and weapon deployments to resource extraction and environmental changes.
Space-Based Deterrence and Arms Control: - Monitoring Compliance: AI could be used to monitor compliance with international arms control agreements, such as those limiting the development of nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles. By analyzing satellite imagery and other data sources, AI could detect potential violations and trigger early warning mechanisms.
- Anti-Satellite Capabilities: The development of AI-powered anti-satellite (ASAT) technologies could serve as a deterrent against potential adversaries, making it more difficult for them to deploy and maintain space-based assets that could threaten US interests.
- Space Traffic Management: AI could be used to monitor and manage space traffic, preventing collisions and ensuring the safe and responsible use of space resources. This could reduce the risk of accidental conflicts and create a more stable space environment.
Ethical and Strategic Considerations: - Weaponization of Space: The development of space-based weapons and ASAT capabilities raises ethical concerns about the militarization of space and the potential for an arms race in orbit.
- International Law and Cooperation: The use of space for military purposes must comply with international law and treaties, such as the Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits the placement of weapons of mass destruction in orbit.
- Unintended Consequences: The deployment of advanced AI in space could have unintended consequences, such as escalating tensions between nations or triggering accidental conflicts.
The DoD's vision for controlling space resources presents both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, space-based dominance could enhance national security, deter adversaries, and promote stability. On the other hand, it raises ethical concerns, legal challenges, and the risk of unintended consequences. A careful and balanced approach is needed to ensure that the benefits of space technology are realized while mitigating the potential risks.

2024.05.19 14:13 smallcapsteve Behind Putin Visit, Unease in Beijing Over His Potential Next Stop: North Korea
In the days leading up to Vladimir Putinâs just-finished visit to China, speculation rippled through diplomatic circles that the Russian leader planned to tack on a trip to North Koreaâa possibility that irritated Beijing, according to diplomats and other officials with knowledge of the matter.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has felt growing unease as ties between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Unâtwo of his most important but also most volatile international partnersâhave grown more intimate, the diplomats and officials said. A combined visit to China and North Korea by Putin could also have reinforced Western fears of a trilateral authoritarian axis, leaving Beijing diplomatically more isolated, they said.
To Chinaâs relief, Putin didnât head to Pyongyang straight from the northern Chinese city of Harbin, just some 460 miles away from the North Korean capital.
On Saturday, Putinâs spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russiaâs state news agency, TASS, that arrangements for a visit by the Kremlin leader to North Korea are progressing well. âPreparations for the visit are under way,â Peskov said. He didnât announce a date for the planned trip.
It couldnât be determined whether Beijing exerted any pressure on Moscow ahead of Putinâs meetings in China, his first foreign trip after starting a new term earlier this month. But the Chinese side has made clear to the Kremlin that Beijingâs preference is to develop bilateral ties, as opposed to more of a three-way alignment that Russia has previously floated.
âChina is avoiding the optics of a trilateral cooperation among the three countries,â said Yun Sun, director of the China program at the Stimson Center, a Washington think tank. âThe goal is to avoid being locked in by two unpredictable partners.â
Putin in September accepted an invitation from Kim to visit North Korea. An analyst from the Russian International Affairs Council think tank in Moscow, which has close ties to the Kremlin, wrote in a recent analysis that after the meeting with Xi, the Russian leader âwill consider the possibility of visiting a number of other non-Western capitals,â including Pyongyang.
The diplomatic dance among the three countries, which share an interest in dulling the U.S.âs influence in the world, has grown more complicated as Kim has sought to reduce his countryâs reliance on Chinaâmost dramatically by wooing Putin with public support and weapons for the Russian war effort.
Since Beijing and Moscow declared a âno-limits friendshipâ just weeks before Russiaâs invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, China and Russia have built on a trade relationship that has become a lifeline to Putin in the face of Western sanctions. Washington and its European allies say China has helped Russia revive its military production by providing it with drone engines and other dual-use materialâproducts Beijing labels as part of its ânormal trade.â
Still, facing pressure from the Biden administration, Xi has refrained from offering weapons to Putin, according to U.S. and Ukrainian officials.
As the Russian war against Ukraine turns into a drawn-out conflict, Putin has instead turned to North Korea to help restock his depleted armory. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told lawmakers earlier this month that North Koreaâs munitions and missiles helped the Russians âget back up on their feet.â
Both countries have denied arms exchanges, including a rebuttal from Kimâs sister issued in state media on Friday.
Russia and North Korea have kept Beijing in the dark about what was discussed when Putin and Kim met for a rare summit in the fall, leading Chinese diplomats to ask their Western counterparts about what was agreed between the duo, according to people familiar with the matter.
Beijing worries that Russia might help Chinaâs erratic neighbor build up its nuclear capabilities, the people said.
Russian analysts who follow Moscowâs relations with Pyongyang said Kimâs visit to Russia last year was a landmark event that allowed North Korea to overcome its foreign policy isolation and Russia to continue its pivot to the East.
âChina is very worried about this new entente,â said Dennis Wilder, a former U.S. intelligence officer and now a fellow at Georgetown University.
Wilder noted that Beijing, while not willing to try to slow the Kim regimeâs missile or satellite launches, has appeared to weigh in to persuade Pyongyang to hold back from conducting another nuclear test. âChina wants a North Korea that presents a latent threat in Northeast Asia while maintaining the status quo,â he said.
Putin last visited Pyongyang in 2000 when he went for discussions with Kimâs father, Kim Jong Il, in a trip that was telegraphed by Moscow as demonstrating to the West the reluctance of the Kremlin to join the collective ostracizing of North Korea. On that trip, Putin traveled directly to Pyongyang from Beijing.
Analysts who follow Russian-North Korean relations say Kim has to tread carefully because he needs to preserve ammunition stocks for the defense of his own nation should there be an all-out war on the Korean Peninsula. But Kim is eager to have Putin in his corner, as a possible resource for improving his missile and nuclear programs, the analysts said.
âBroadly speaking they have immediate desires of each other,â Derek Grossman, a senior defense analyst at the global policy think tank and research institute Rand, said of Putin and Kim. âSo it is, I think, a quid pro quo, if you want to look at it through the lens of the war in Ukraine and the lens of what North Korea wants to do vis-Ă -vis South Korea and Japan and the U.S.â
One reason why Xi didnât want Putin to add Pyongyang to his itinerary following his trip to China lies with Beijingâs strategic intention to prevent China from being grouped into an axis that could deepen a demarcation in geopoliticsâparticularly in Northeast Asia, with China, Russia and North Korea on one side and Japan, South Korea and the U.S. on the other.
It is little secret in either Beijing or Pyongyang that the relationship between Xi and Kim is less trusting than the ties previous Chinese leaders had with Kimâs father, who was more intent on maintaining stability while challenging the West. The younger Kim since coming to power in 2011 has carried out more than triple the number of missile tests than his father and grandfather combined.
Those kinds of activities make China nervous because Beijing is eager to maintain the strategic buffer zone in North Korea in relation to South Korea, which is aligned with the U.S. and Japan. To do this, Beijing needs stability.
But Kim looks like he is more willing âto rock the boatâ than his father, which worries Beijing, Randâs Grossman said.
During Putinâs latest visit to China, he and Xi issued a joint statement with a relatively lengthy section accusing the U.S. of escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The statement urged Washington to âabandon intimidation, sanctions and suppressionâ of North Korea.
The Chinese and Russian leaders also pledged to intensify their cooperation. Andrew Belousov, the new Russian defense minister, was with Putin on this trip, which analysts say signaled military cooperation likely was at the top of the Russianâs leaderâs agenda. In recent months, Moscow has spoken of the benefits of stepping up joint military exercises between the two countries.
For Moscow, what Pyongyang can provide beyond the war in Ukraine is limited, and strengthening the bilateral relationship with Beijing for economic support will be much more valuable to Putin, said John Everard, a former U.K. ambassador to North Korea and Belarus.
âNorth Korea is not a priority for Putin,â Everard said. âNorth Korea is just having a wild fling with Russia.â

Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan
killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others
have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four
died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from
record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acresâalmost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. âInstitutional failuresâ compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another
study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and âcold lavaâ
killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand.
Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile,
an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page
report last week about natural disasters in 2023âand how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in TĂŒrkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
âLast year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsuredâŠ.the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive yearâŠ.annual insured losses will grow by 5â7% over the long termâŠtodayâs insured losses could double in 10 yearsâŠ.There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1â5 billionâŠ.Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...â
Flooding and heat waves are
impacting Brazilâs oranges, responsible for about 70% of the worldâs supply. One food analysts declared that the â
era of cheap food is overââin the UK, at least. That may be one reason why
UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is
struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is
growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The RhĂŽne River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerlandâs remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam,
lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, Chinaâs lychee
harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the worldâs largest source of lychee. And, once again,
Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in
historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen
posted that, since âhuman-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,â the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a âlarge anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphereâ responsible for rising temperatures there.
CO2 levels are
rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 yearsâŠand
a study of millennia-old trees determined
last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ yearsâŠ
Record nighttime
May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities
broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states
saw more records drop. And Toronto saw
a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has
returned to Bangladesh.
Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington
was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A
comparative study in
Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
Itâs that time of the year again.
Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sandsâforcing
thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nationâs blazes are âout of control,â resulting in
air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean,
water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has
declared a water emergency. In Myanmar,
water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least â
of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme floodingâso says a 175-page
report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
âEurope has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperaturesâŠ.permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern EuropeâŠ.since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditionsâŠ.Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawingâŠ.Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding eventâŠ.Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clearâŠâ -selections from the report
Milan suffered
flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has
disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page
working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim â
global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than
local temperatureâ and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
ââââââââââ
Epidemiologists are worried about how
climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how
cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing
traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are
50% higher than in 2000âthough researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawaiâi,
75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024
World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants;
another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates
a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
âThe last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of lifeâŠ.There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and ColombiaâŠ.disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migrationâŠ.Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern eraâŠoverconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the worldâŠ.the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022âŠâ -excerpts from the introduction
Another
report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analysesâwith sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
âConflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 yearsâŠ.Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacementâŠ.Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in SomaliaâŠ.Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in EthiopiaâŠ.Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after SudanâŠ.nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods emptyâŠ.Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacementsâŠ.â -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the
mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe âPeak Chinaâ
may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy.
Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands
finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page
report on potential climate risks to the banking systemâs resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced
an outbreak of
Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is
issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of m
onkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolinaâs Senate
voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found
lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they âhad significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failureâŠ.even two years after recovering.â Experts say a
summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A
study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in Englandâs Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in
raw sewage being pumped into Englandâs largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO
took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago Riverâs health found that
microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.

An
assassination attempt by a
lone wolf on Slovakiaâs PM left him in critical condition, but likely to survive. 11 civilians
were slain by cartel fighters in a few battles in Mexico.
Violence continues to spiral out of control in Goma, DRC.
In Haiti,
everything worsens indefinitely. Guns have reportedly entered from Florida, a phenomenon which officials call an âiron river.â Police have been
put on the defensive against the growing might of the gang warlords.
A
brawl broke out in Taiwanâs parliament. An Iranian plot was allegedly foiled to
smuggle weapons into Jordan to destabilize the pro-U.S. regime.
Dozens more died in Sudan from escalating violence around Darfur. People are
warning about âa disaster on top of a disasterâ and the possibility of Sudan splitting apart. Others have
called it âhell on earthâ as 1,000+ refugees cross the Chad border every day. Disease and malnutrition are growing, while famine encroaches upon 9M helpless victims of the conflictâbut the worldâs attention is elsewhere.
The U.S. Army Engineers
completed constructing the pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. Some 600,000 Gazans have
been displaced from Rafah already, and fighting has escalated against Hamas militants in northern Gaza.
Taliban forces
skirmished with Pakistani soldiers for about 90 minutes last week.
Taliban attacks in Pakistan, and
counterattacks have resulted in a kind of ambient disruption for the rocky border zone.
Violent protestsâand
counteroperationsâ
are continuing in New Caledonia (pop: 270,000), a Pacific island part of overseas France. The riots, which have killed 6 people so far, began after metropolitan France proposed a plan to expand voting rights beyond indigenous residents. A
state of emergency has been declared amid worries about a spiral of violence taking hold.
As the Sahel dries out, experts are concerned about the
links to rising terrorism in the region. The Sahel accounts for over 40% of global terrorism deathsâaccording to the analystsâ understanding of âterrorism.â Mali in particular has reportedly become home to 41 new, different non-state armed groups (NSAGs) since 2007. A
contested election in Chad resulted in the consolidation of the
interim leaderâs power.
âIf governments are continually unable to solve regional issues, the people will be at the whim of any terror group that has a basic organization. It serves these groupsâ interests to promote insecurity where they can and create security where they want. A âhearts and mindsâ campaign in the Sahel could lead to long-term and locally supported insurgencies in a land that is currently rife with civil strife.â -from the article
Some wargamers
concluded that a Trump victory in 2020 would spell the end of NATO, or at least the end of its utility. Vladimir Putin
replaced his minister of defense with a top economic advisor, just before
going to Beijing to reaffirm their friendship with âno limits.â Some say
Putin is planning on a forever war. Some say
NATO is gearing up for one, too.
Russia
made several gains in the suburbs of Kharkiv,
seizing several settlements which some analysts doubt they will hold. Putin
claims they arenât really trying to take Kharkiv anyway⊠Russia also
made small progress in the Donbasâalthough they
suffered their largest one-day casualties since the start of the war. The U.S.
allocated another $2B to hasten the delivery of weapons to the front lines. The
next weeks will be crucial on the front. Switzerland has
invited 160+ nations to send delegates to a peace summit intended to design a path to making peace in this War.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest: -Brazilâs flooding was really, really bad, judging from
this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazilâs 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless,
100+ have died, and the storm season isnât over yet. Some of the flooding isnât expected to subside for another month.

How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct?
This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.

Bago pa man nangyari ang pagsibak kay Carlos, nagrelease rin ang PMA Makatao Class 1989 ng pahayag ng suporta standing in solidarity with their mistah who is a distinguished Filipino military officer of unwavering integrity, patriotism and honorable service throughout his professional career.âAng pagiging Vice Admiral ay katumbas ng 3-star general sa Army.
Ang Western Command naman ng AFP ay kasalukuyang pinaka-controversial dahil ito ay located sa disputed islands sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China. Ano ba ang laman ng ânew model agreementâ and why did it cost the head of Vice Admiral Carlos?

2024.05.19 10:43 Scary_Ad_8919 South Korea's nuclear armament and China
Hello. My name is Dennis, majoring in mechanical engineering in Frankfurt, Germany. I am particularly interested in mechanical engineering and major knowledge related to military weapons, so I set my goal to go to a company related to this as the ultimate goal of employment later.
But not long ago, I completely changed the course of my dream because of a single incident.
Recently, among my friends who dealt with mechanical engineering of military weapons related to me, a topic related to Korea's nuclear armament has emerged as a pretty interesting topic.
In particular, Korea has recently been a rising travel country among our university students, and the fact that we can enjoy a very normal rich life that we can never feel in other countries while traveling has been popular.
Perhaps that's why when news about Korea's nuclear armament came out, there were many opinions among our colleagues that if Korea was nuclear-armed, it would have the same military ranking as the United States.
It would be the same because Korea is currently at the forefront of the next generation of digital industries and technologies, and even the United States does not have professional military machine technology or the process rate of making such weapons clean without margin of error. However, not long ago, my colleagues and I encountered an outside lecture by a Chinese professor, and we were very angry. As soon as the lecture began, the Chinese professor suddenly said that Korea did not even have money to arm itself with nuclear weapons, away from the topic of Germany's military weapons and defense budget. The Chinese professor snorted, saying, "Korea is a poor country because the country itself is poor and buys various military weapons from China. What would Korea do with nuclear armament that the U.S. wants?" and added false data to make it look like Korea is a poor country.
