2024.05.17 13:25 No-Doubt-5786 All the things my mil an sil has done to me

For 16 years my mil an oldest sil have been awful, after dealing with it for so long I developed ptsd from their treatment. I been NC since April and it is absolutely wonderful, I juss wanna talk about some of the things they've done.
After the birth of my first daughter mil an fil were telling bf to not sign the birth certificate, and the nurses were giving me such a hard time for him to sign the paperwork. So when he came to the hospital after work I told him they wanted him to sign the papers he was refusing to go get them from the desk an I just had a c section, so I got mad and walked down there and got the stuff from them an took it back to him he did sign but mil an fil were not happy... it has always been difficult with husband until recently believing me about how awful his mother is to me he didn't wanna deal with any of it an basically wanted me to take their torture which the end result was my mental health, makes me really upset cuz I could of been smarter and just left an maybe today I would be able to go into a large crowd of people without feeling scared an panicking. I can barely go into stores now. But anyway....
Bf was giving me money to help buy baby stuff it was 100 every week, he was also giving mil 400 a week. Mil an sil cornered me and threw a fit about he was giving me to much money. Which i find funny bc he was literally giving her a lot of money, I was also on government assistance for like 3 months an she said bf was entitled to half of that money.
Mil put her electric in bfs name (he still lived there) she let the bill go up to over 2000 dollars and didn't pay it off till he gave her problems cuz they were sayin his wages were gonna be attached, we had juss gotten our first apartment when they threatened to attach his wages. She lied to him about paying it she did some but not all and he still gets letters about that bill.
During the first couple weeks at our new apartment mil would bring a plate of food for just bf an would give me dirty looks while he was eating it 🤣
Now it gets interesting...
Fast forward to our second child mil stated to both of us the baby wasn't his but was my brother's 🙄 that was the first time she did anything Infront of him an he threw a fit after that its all been backhanded she'd do shit when he wasn't in the room.
I had gotten a tattoo on the side of my neck just a lil star and she said only trashy people do that, but it was ok sil got 2 on both sides of her neck.
Mil sil and sils friend came to our wedding in pajamas it was at the courthouse but everyone was dressed up
Mil took both bottom tiers of my wedding cake my friend made for me and my mom had to fight her for the top of it. She had also stole my first babyshower cake I didn't even get a piece
Sometimes on the weekends we would drink beers an have people over, sometimes sil would come over and few times she'd bring her friend and their mutual friend would come now I knew right away they did this on purpose and it was absolutely intentional they had this girl flirt with husband I over heard this girl say something about how her crotch would get so wet and I went off it caused a big fight and when I told that girl we were married she acted shocked an left immediately never saw her again.
Mil brought me pants of this really really big lady we all knew and said these should fit u
This one is the beginning of the end my father passed away and a month after was my youngest bday husband was outside cookin on the grill and mil and fil came in an mil starting making jokes about funerals even fil told her thats fked up. My mom went home later in tears. A few months later after that we learned fil had the same cancer my dad passed of.
Youngest sil overdosed 2 years ago and is bedridden now and mil takes care of her and her 3 kids 2 months before that happened we were all sitting at my kitchen table and mil told everyone idc what kind of drugs you do just don't get caught with them... I thought wow this is insane shit.
In February of this year I had gotten a fb message from someone idk and they were sayin all these things that would definitely make me break up with husband, in the messages they had given their self away sayin only things mil would of known. There was a huge argument and mil ended up writing husband f you and your family. Then all of a sudden sils friend gets a job at husband's shop an works with him... husband an I sat down and were talkin about how that whole thing was a big plan to get us to break up and sils friend to weasel her way into husband's life.
There has been so much more but those r the things that stay vividly in my mind. After the whole fb thing I was done an the last time mil popped up at our home an i had a panic attack she was told to not come here anymore of course she knows nothing and has done nothing wrong 🙄 an is currently telling people she doesn't know what's going on... she has to tell people that so she doesn't look like the bad guy cuz she has talked so much trash about me to everyone that they would know. She even sent her nephew to tell husband to call his mom 🙄 he never did... he texted her happy mother's day and she said to tell me the same from her I'm at the point I don't want to hear from her, don't wanna hear her name, I wanna forget what she looks like.
I forgot to mention they were all on m3th an that just amplified their stupidness which is probably why they thought that fb idea was the plan to finally get husband an I apart 😆 oldest sil is really bad on that stuff now an her life is Fallin apart everyone says she is goin down the same path as youngest sil but all they do is watch and talk about it.
If you made it thus far thanks for reading ❤️

9 Major Things to Take Care While Applying for France Study Visa - September 2024 Intake
France is the most famous tourist destination in the world for multiple reasons. Besides its natural and cultural beauty, France has an extensive background of intellectual strength. The country’s universities are well known for offering excellent education in various fields, attracting students from around the globe seeking a France Study Visa.
In French universities, there is a wide range of programs that are both standard and unique, ranging from arts and humanities to science and engineering.
Now you can ask why you should study in France. There are many reasons why one should study abroad in France, such as an opportunity to join a top university and be fully immersed in a language and society that is known worldwide. Living in a globally-minded community would enhance your education and broaden your perspectives.
But before relocating to France for higher study, students must complete the application process for a France student visa. In this piece of guide, we will discuss about the significant things to take care while applying for student Visa for France.

Here are nine important things you should keep in mind when applying for a visa to Study in France:

1) Right Business School or University

Getting into the right school sets the stage for your future academic and career goals. France has many well-known business schools and universities known for their creative programmes and high academic standards.
International students benefit from Studying abroad in France even without taking the IELTS or any English test. This makes visiting France easier for non-English speakers, making it a popular college destination.

2) Best Suitable Program to Study

For a fulfilling educational experience, it is important to look into programmes that match your academic interests and job goals. Many programmes in France are designed to meet the needs of international students. Business programmes are very common. Master of Management (MIM) degrees in Finance, HR, and Marketing prepare students for worldwide success.
Also, choosing an 18-month programme gives you plenty of time to focus on your studies and look for student jobs. In France, many schools offer internships or part-time jobs that give students important real-world experience and the chance to meet new people.

3) Your Documents Checklist

Visa applicants must pay great attention to every detail and have all the necessary papers. Documents that are often needed are:
  • Proof of being enrolled: A letter from the school you want to attend stating that you have been accepted into a programme.
  • Statements of money: Proof that you have enough money to pay for education, living costs, and other costs related to the programme.
  • Coverage for health insurance: Proof that you have full health insurance that covers your whole stay in France.
  • Passport that works: Check that your passport has two blank pages for visa stamps and is valid in France.
You must carefully examine the list of materials the French study abroad consultant or office provides to ensure the application procedure runs smoothly. For further details explore France VFS Checklist by Edugo Abroad, we are a top Europe education consultant located in India.

4) Post Study Work Option

Knowing what jobs, you can get after finishing school in France is important for planning your future career. France has policies are good for international students who want to find work after graduation. For example, you can stay longer to look for work or go to school for longer.
With the temporary residence card, students can stay in France and look for work for up to 24 months after graduation. During this time frame, graduates can work full-time in any area without needing any other work authorization. Additionally, graduates from French schools may be able to get a "Passport Talent" visa, which makes the transition from student to job easier.

5) Employment & Job Opportunities in France

France's strong economy and wide job opportunities are good news for skilled workers in many fields. Foreign graduates can employ their talents and knowledge in technology, healthcare, finance, and hospitality.
Make local connections and check your school's internship or job placement programmes to boost your chances of finding meaningful work in France. Speaking and writing French well can increase your work prospects and help you integrate into French culture.

6) Settlement Options with Family After Study

Everyone needs to know the visa rules of Student Visa for France from India and how to reconnect with family if they want to live in France permanently or bring family members. Family reunions and long-stay visas for dependent children and spouses are available in France.
To reconcile with your family, you must have a stable salary, a suitable home, and enough health insurance for everyone. Planning and talking to immigration officials or lawyers can speed up family reunification and help your loved ones adjust.

7) Diplomatic Relationship of France with India

France and India have diplomatic links, including working together, sharing culture, and making strategic partnerships in many areas. High-level visits and projects led by leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi have strengthened relations between the two countries and encouraged them to work together in areas like defence, science, education, and more.
These diplomatic ties help Indian students learn in France through academic exchange programmes, scholarships, and cultural projects. The fact that there are Indian societies and cultural groups in France also helps Indian students get used to living in a new country.

8) Affordability of Cost in France

Even though France has a high standard of life and a world-class school system, you need to know how much it costs to live there to prepare your money. The cost of living varies by city; Paris costs more than other cities.
Lodging, transportation, food, medical bills, and personal expenses are crucial. Live in student accommodation or shared apartments, travel the bus or train, and cook to cut costs. Another way for international students to get money is to look into scholarship programmes, part-time jobs, and financial aid programmes.

9) Choosing the right Application & Visa Advisor

Applying for a French student Visa can be difficult, especially for international students who don't know how French immigration works. Selecting a reputable application and visa consultant or guide can be very helpful and supportive during the application process.
When hiring an advisor, consider experience, name, success record, and cost and service transparency. A skilled advisor from France visa consultants in Ahmedabad will help you gather papers, fill out visa application forms, schedule visa interviews, and address any concerns.

2024.05.17 13:12 Unique_Relief_5601 Adrenaline is a Hell of a Drug pt. 10/???

Pri’Darya, Alcoranth Male, Pirate Captain
Oh where did it all go wrong? Me crew is dead, and my boy was brutally murdered.
In this void of sensation, I am only left with my thoughts. That stun baton has completely paralyzed me, and I know I’m being taken to a cryopod for holding, so I may as well dwell on my thoughts.
Was it taking the job where we messed up? No, I don’t think so. It was probably the bait. It worked too well. We caught too big of a Trorish.
I sigh internally as I can feel them lifting me up somewhere.
And we had such a good plan too. Well it wasn’t my plan, it was my boy’s plan. To send out a drone ship with a fake weapon system as a decoy so we can sneak up on them, it worked so well that they actually thought it was us.
I can feel them placing me down on a soft platform as a shadow seems to begin looming over me.
That Altrin girl could have gone for a pretty credit if we got her, but what the hells was that rifle she was using? I thought a fully automatic BYR was impossible due to the recoil and explosive payloads. But that white… whatever she was… She is completely terrifying. I thought she would just sell for a lot more since she kept her fur in good condition, so I thought she was just an assistant to that Altrin girl. Never in me life, would I expect a pretty girl like that to be so… terrifyingly deadly.
The air begins to turn cold.
Ah, I’m out of time to think… At least wherever I end up, I hope I don’t see that white furred girl again.
Cerelia, Altrin Female, Captain of The Opal Star
I sigh as we finish escorting the remaining crew to their quarters or work quarters, taking in consideration to take longer routes around the ship to avoid bodies that we haven’t had time to clean up yet. There were a few crewmembers we had to either escort back to their work areas or to communal areas due to bodies that we couldn’t avoid.
It’s going to be a long few days…
My attention is grabbed by my wrist data pad as I get a call from Triwt.
“Hey, Triwt, how are things going on your end?” I ask with a tiredness in my voice as I’ve been awake for roughly 13 or so hours now.
“Well, we’ve managed to move the majority of the bodies. Galactic Law doesn’t allow for spacing bodies.”
“It would be an easier clean up if we could.”
“Yes, but we still have to obey the law.”
We both sigh at the same time while I use my other hand to rub my face, trying to make my exhaustion go away with such a pointless attempt.
“Right, right…” I sigh again before continuing to speak, “Anyways, I’m setting up an autopilot course to take us to Verglas.”
“Verglas?”
“Yeah, sending you the information now.”
There’s a moment of silence from Triwt before she speaks, “You’re kidding me, right?”
“I wish I was.”
“An ice covered planet?
“Mhm.”
“Known to snow almost all the time?”
“Yes, but the cities and spaceport are built around a natural heat signature.”
“... You’re lucky I have a snow coat and that I have fur, but my fur isn’t really good at keeping out the cold.”
I hear her sigh on her end before I chime in.
“Wanna go meet up at Med Bay 07? Check in on Jordan?”
“Jordan? My my, Captain I didn’t know you were interested in him where you're already shortening his name.”
“It’s not like that! He said it was weird to hear everyone saying his ‘full name’ and prefers being called by his ‘first name’.” I huff in slight annoyance and embarrassment.
“Ah okay, does that mean we should all refer to him as Jordan then?”
“I believe so if that’s what he wishes.”
I mean I felt special when he wanted me to call him Jordan, but oh well.
“Okay, I’ll see you there, Cerelia.”

I slowly walk down the hall. It’s been quarantined due to the fact that there’s still blood and bullets on the walls and floor of the corridor. It seems that the trail of blood from Jordan has gone from red to more of a brownish black color.
I look up at a sign in the hallway that reads, “MEDICAL ROOM 07” which I smirk a little.
I always find it funny that despite it being a medical room, everyone calls it a Med Bay. I wonder where that name for it came from.
“Hey Triwt, I’m here-” I cut myself off as before me in the room is Triwt, Lys, and every crew member from the compromised safe room. Well all except for R’dorn.
I’m glad that prick isn’t here, but I wasn’t expecting everyone else to be here.
“Oh uh, hey everyone. Are we all here to see, Jordan Cores?”
Lys nods and speaks up, “Yes, and Triwt did inform us about his name preference. It’s a little bit weird, but we can do it if it’s what he wishes.”
I admit, I was almost a little bit annoyed that others were calling him Jordan now, but I have to let that emotion go for now as I’m here to see how he’s recovering, not to try and be an overprotective mother. I nod and walk over to the stasis regeneration tube as I look inside.
Part of me is glad that his arms and hands have already been fixed, but…
Not everything is going to be truly healed 100%.
I think to myself as I can see the formations of scars on his skin tissue. I noticed it the first time, but I don’t think he noticed it himself when he woke up after his first big injury. His wrists and knuckles are the most scarred, due to probably when he was punching that orange Alcoranth, but his wrists are from when he broke out of his restraints when we first found him.
Not the best memory to think back on… It hasn’t even been a full day yet. Oh, and where is Jordan going to sleep?
I then slowly bring myself to look at his face, which is almost finished healing. There’s a scar on his chin and a scar leading to under his right ear where the shot left his head. It’s not a major scar except for the entrance and exit wounds, but it’s still somewhat noticeable. If anything the white tissue of the scars make it stand out against his [tan] skin.
If only we had some higher grade Stasis Regeneration Tubes, maybe we could heal those scars as well… All we can do now is wait…
Jordan Cores, Human Male, Part-Time Security Worker
I take in a deep breath, gasping for air as I sit straight up in a cold sweat, holding onto my face and chest. My heart beats quickly and I sit there panting. I quickly check myself to make sure I’m not missing any body parts or anything.
“That is not an okay feeling!” I say aloud before shuddering.
It’s hard to describe how it feels to be in pain, everything slightly red in my vision, I was hearing my own heart thumping in my chest all the while I couldn’t hear out of my right ear, and then in the blink of an eye everything is fine, there’s no more pain just the sensation that something is missing while sitting on a bed of some sort surrounded by aliens.
Oh right the aliens.
OH RIGHT THE ALIENS
I turn my head and look around me, and while I’m a little panicked, I’m able to calm down as most of them are sitting further back or standing near the walls. The only ones closer to me are Lys, Cerelia, and I think the white snake lady is Triwt if I remember correctly.
“Um… good morning?” I ask nervously as I look around the room. “Is it even morning?”
“No, it’s technically the middle of the night, Jordan.” Cerelia says as she puts her paw on my head and rubs my hair like my parents used to when I was younger. “But, we all wanted to be sure you would be fine when waking up and it would be cruel to leave you alone when waking up. That, and these crewmembers wanted to express their thanks for protecting them. Though, hopefully next time it won’t be such a violent display.”
“S-Sorry, I wasn’t really thinking when that happened.”
“To be fair you were shot in the head. I think they were more scared that you seemingly came back to life.”
“Y-Yeah… Uh, if it’s okay, can I maybe say hi to them then?” I ask, peering around her shoulder to look at the other crew members. She nods and steps to the side as a line forms of aliens who want to speak to me.

I never expected to spend the next 20 minutes receiving thanks from complete strangers, aliens nonetheless, but it was still nice. I also apologized if I potentially scared them for what they saw me do.
Also aliens apparently hug. A lot.
That would probably explain why Cerelia was petting my head as well…
The last person I expected to approach me was Triwt.
She slithered up to me and offered me one of her four hands, which I accepted, gently shaking it before she pulled me into a hug like the last 13 people did. After a few seconds she lets me go.
“Jordan, since you will probably be with us for a while, could I potentially offer you a job while you are on this ship?”
“H-Huh? A job?”
Triwt, Female Valis-Trobat Hybrid, Security Commander
I try to stay focused on giving Jordan this job offer, but something is really distracting me, especially with our upcoming destination of Verglas.
Goddess, he is super warm…
And that is Chapter 10! I know it's probably a bit more on the boring side, but it's to try and set up our trip to Verglas (which is a thin coating of ice on a rock. Ice Rock. Ice Planet)! I really liked the suggestions of an ice planet so thats where we're heading. Major Cities and spaceports are built on natural heat signatures which cause a lot of natural hot springs (ooo fun!). Also for our theorizers, no, Pri'Darya will not be recurring, I just wanted to give him a name and their side of things in the aftermath.
Also it's time for Jordan to finally get a job! It hasn't been a full day and Triwt wants him on her team! This also means I can have an excuse for him to be around Lys and Cerelia more often. That being said, does Jordan get his own room, or does he have to bunkbed with somebody?

2024.05.17 12:36 Llamas-and-Sunshine I am at a point where I don’t know what to do

Hi!! This little problem has been on my mind recently, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on how to not be so upset about it.
For some context, I’m 21 now, and I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 17/18 years old, and a tic disorder and bipolar disorder later that year. Around this time last year, I decided I was going to go through testing and evaluation to see if I also (or if I only) had autism, after compiling a bunch of research and “preliminary” tests that I hoped would help me know how to articulate what is going on in my life in words that wouldn’t make me seem like I was trying to “fake” anything. After (not even) an hour appointment with a psych, I took the tests a week or so later. When I got the results of those tests, the psych essentially said that because of the fact I acted primarily typical in my appointment, she couldn’t give me any diagnosis (including my current ADHD diagnosis) because I hit so many factors in the tests that she believed I was “faking” or trying to force my neurodivergence.
My biggest concern now with all that information is that I now work in an environment where control is hard to obtain, I am constantly overwhelmed from outside sources, and I’m wanting to stick with this job because I love it and the work I do. However, I’m having a hard time rationalizing asking for help or possibly even accommodations because I am worried that without a diagnosis, it won’t be received well. As well as that, because I haven’t gotten any help medically for these situations, I’m not exactly sure what I can do to assist myself in regulation and general accommodation. Does anyone have any tips or advice on these situations? Thank you!
TL;DR: What are some things I can do to help myself regulate and ask for accommodation as an undiagnosed person?

2024.05.17 11:48 FlyByNight1899 Should I loose my dream job because of a toxic coworker?

  1. Get a new job.
  2. Tell management she is chatty and request my own office maybe or space?
  3. Talk to the colleague that hired me and explain why I'm leaving and express if this toxic person leaves I would come back.
Context:
I have the best job in the world. Literally any incentive you can think of is met (they pay for botox, flights, adopting a baby type of incentive), amazing boss and coworkers.
One catch...the person I work the closest with and am expected to manage in the near future is truly awful. Constantly slacking off, unprofessional, always sick, always crying loudly when they have work (I.e. asked to mail a letter or google something), or swearing and berating someone loudly when they catch them in a mistake, talks about sex, drugs, and drinking openly, etc. I do her job for her. I sit beside them and everyone else has offices. There is no escape.
I didn't deal with her the first year much because she was on stress leave, worked from home a lot and when she returned called in sick a lot. However this year they are cracking down on absences and wfh so she's in all the time and they have approached me to manage her and train. I also got a bonus with the description "thank you for dealing with X coworker" it was sizeable...
I was about to bring it up with my manager after two years of dealing with this but today I saw that the one other person that has shared my views is about to be fired because he raised then about her. This guy has a career in HR as well. He was calling her out very professionally and rightly so and this toxic coworker ended up lying to my boss saying this guy was insulting my boss which was insane. So now my boss obviously hates him and anytime my coworker complains it fuels my boss. I've tried to put my two cents in nicely but I can see my boss has made her mind.
We are out of office space so senior managers are sitting in cubicles which means a regular schmuck like me won't get an office even if they had space and I know they would accommodate if this wasn't the case which would solve 90% of my problems. I've worked with difficult people before but the thing is I have no work around here.
I do have a lot of job interviews and offers (six in the last month) so I know there's options but of course this being my dream job I know I'm going to have to let go of some things. I know even if there's bad coworkers as there are anywhere I can negotiate a office from the start or determine how big the team is. When I was hired here they said there was no team just me and this girl.

2024.05.17 09:38 BlackIvoryPAAC Stuckism, Punk & Heckel's Horse - extract from interview with Other Muswell Hill Stuckist founder

Read the full interview at https://edgeworth.blog/2024/04/27/me-a-doll-interview/
PUG: Jompiy are quite a lot like Damien Hirst’s spin paintings.
EJ: I liked his figurative paintings that Tate didn’t include any of, in that solo show that had virtually everything else he’d ever done. I think Tate will be showing Heckel’s Horse before long.
PUG: What makes you think that?
EJ: It would be poetic. Darth Vadar comes to his senses and everyone’s rescue. There’ll probably be some new maverick Director that comes along and wants to make an easy name for herself.
PUG: How about a Heckel’s Horse Jr. show there instead? I liked the Heckel’s Horse Jr. book.
EJ: Thanks. They’re currently available to all our Fan Club members on Tiers 2 and 3. If someone was interested in finding out more, all they’d have to do is simply visit https://blackivory.org/fan-club/
PUG: Is there anything planned for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: As far as I can tell, it’s on the back burner till whoever’s in charge decides the time’s right for a show. Billy’s been trying to push things along for years, pretty much since we started doing them.
PUG: You need this new Tate Director.
EJ: We need someone to forcibly step in with the interest, clout and balls to act irrespective of any commercial consequence or fretting what the art world and its clientele think. Like some benevolent Stuckist ex-hedge fund manager who says “Let’s do a show because of all that stuff in the Stuckism manifesto.”
PUG: Like a hostile takeover. Might Heckel’s Horse Jr. being published speed things along for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: Apparantly the opposite. It might put them off, but whatever. It shouldn’t be all beholden to any audience thing. There needs to be a punk movement in Contemporary Art. Like Black Ivory but slightly more influential. None of this prissy “We’re not allowed to do this, we’re not allowed to do that. The clients might not like this, the clients might not like that.” I don’t know anything about how the art world functions but there’s an obvious staleness and near-universal obedience to it. Then you get things like Stuckism or our semi-Stuckist-splinter-group Black Ivory that, like opt out of the audience as target idea. That are happy to be a disgrace. I think they asked the bass player from the Manics what it was like walking around dressed up in their band gear, round their local working-class mining village in skirts and makeup, and he says “We just wanted to be hated.” I like that about Stuckism and the seemingly repellent and toe-curling bridge-burning stuff we do. The term “target audience” is business talk for a reason. Target audiences are for things like Persil Automatic, not artists. Artists worrying about this stuff is just depressing and I guess is all counter-productive to what they’re after anyway.
PUG: How would it be counter-productive?
EJ: Because it’s like some saggy-headed donkey that’s given up. Part of the shuffling crowd, which is shame if your art isn’t. Not believing in yourself. That’s how it all looks to me anyway. When I see photos of Stuckists prancing around in clown costumes outside Tate it’s so appealing. They’re building walls between themselves and the people everyone else is so desperate to be approved by.
PUG: So can Black Ivory save Contemporary Art?
EJ: We’ll stack a load of six footer Heckel’s Horse Jr. paintings against the walls. A few in the front room with the sofas, tables and chairs and whatnot. I’ll be walking round with a full teapot. Invite some friends round and do it as Stuckism would do it. Leave the evidence on our YouTube channel as Van Goghian proof for future generations that today’s Contemporary Art wasn’t just the text book stuff.
PUG: Stuckism was quite punk influenced but the art world’s still largely what it was beforehand.
EJ: Stuckism bothered. Like leading a horse to water. It’s like even the anti-establishment are only considered successful when the establishment accept them. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists should do a manifesto about it. Stuckism‘s not for our benefit, it’s for yours. Our “failures” are your problem. We’re waking up and painting either way. We don’t need the art world. We don’t need the Turner Prize to show us what a decent painting looks like. I’m only talking about it not shaking up the artworld obviously, not the work or anything important, but like we’ve both done loads of Stuckist Turner Prize demos, published a Stuckist Turner Prize manifesto, as far as I know, the Turner Prize is still going strong. So what? Did the demos fail? Are our paintings worse now? If nothing else, it’s nice to get out the house. I like the Turner Prize demos because it’s like getting bashed on both sides. By the establishment and the hipsters. Usually it’s like, choose a team: brand A or brand B and kid yourself there’s a difference. The establishment think they’re winning and the hipsters think they’re cool and anti-establishment. Stuckism chooses neither, which I see as the only real anti-establishment. Stuckism‘s failures, if anything, proove its success becuase punk succeeded in it’s non-musical objectives, it became chart music. No chance of Stuckism falling for that one. How’s that for a theory? Failure isn’t failure. Failure’s success because failure’s longevity and success is failure. Stuckism‘s a roaring failure.
PUG: A new punk Tate for Heckel’s Horse.
EJ: I did some assistant work for Jimmy Cauty years ago, on these glittery riot shields. I think around 2016. The tracksuit bottoms still have the gold glitter and PVA stuck to them. I can’t remember if I was talking about Heckel’s Horse or something else, but Billy and I couldn’t have done too many by then. It might have been something else, but I tell Jimmy we’ve done all this work and nothing’s getting published, and he says ‘So, when’s the bonfire?’ The man who burned a million pounds. Ten years later, he we are, same situation. Thankfully, as far as I’m aware, still no bonfire. So overall, things are going great for Heckel’s Horse. All the paintings are still probably in existence.
PUG: Just a lot more of them now.
EJ: I’ve got this image of Heckel’s Horse paintings being taken at night to some secret billionaires island off the South Kent coast and chucked on a blazing fire with a load of men in white suits standing round drinking champagne, each with a cigar between their teeth going ‘Ha! Ha! Fuck you Edgeworth!’
PUG: Then there’d just be the Heckel’s Horse Jr.’s left and you could sell them for millions.
EJ: You’re a genius.
PUG: All those paintings will end up in a show at some point.
EJ: It’s been eleven years. Could be another twenty, thirty. I had this paranoia, they’d pretend they were by Billy and cut my name out. If Billy and I aren’t around. Even if I’m still around, who’s going to listen to me?
PUG: Do you reckon?
EJ: I don’t even know who it was, but some lying fart-face decided it would be alright to pretend these monoprints Billy and I collaborated on would be better sold off as ‘by Billy Childish’ and not by both of us. So that’s what happened. Like a click of the fingers, “Bye bye Edgeworth.” Pretty unimpressive, I thought.
PUG: Didn’t you say anything?
EJ: No, what’s going to happen? Better to say nothing then moan about it ten years later. The way I see it, I’m not the one lying so it’s not my problem. Do you know what I mean? It shouldn’t be on me to object if they’re doing it on purpose.
PUG: So it’s not like Damien Hirst and his assistant’s painting butterflies.
EJ: No. It’s sort of, not wanting to flatter the people that erased my attribution with the idea they’re worth bothering with. Because it’s not like I was upset or felt hard done by. It was just disillusionment in one thing, addressed by the creation of another, Black Ivory Printmaking & Audio Club. If anything it’s a net positve. “So that’s the kind of people you really are. What a fantastic opportunity!”
Damien Hirst’s different. It’s all declared and everyone knows the deal. There’s nothing dodgy about it. It’s not like some slippery gallerist-type shifts the goalposts after the works done, like they’ve got some licence to change the truth. The buyers know what they’re buying, the artists know what they’re doing. These monoprints were a thick painterly transfer technique I came up with and haven’t seen anywhere else. Until I see any that look similar, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a type of monoprint of my invention. And they think they can just sign that away from me. If people see mine now, the ones I did independently using the same technique, they’ll probably think I copied it from Billy, which I think’s quite a liberty. “Taking Berty’s.” as we said at school.
PUG: Didn’t they ask you about it first?
EJ: No, I just get emailed after with some apparent excuse. If you’re some no-name pushover like me, I guess they think it’s alright. It might all have been a lot more innocent than it looked from my end, but if they’re like this with some few hundred quid monoprints, what’s it going to be like with all these crates of 6ft paintings that are worth a fortune? Not exactly reassuring to think of Heckel’s Horse in these people’s hands.
PUG: Welcome to the art world.
EJ: It might end up for the best. A lot of why I started doing Heckel’s Horse Jr. was to get the Heckel’s Horse story out the door. A lots been done already. Billy and I want to get Heckel’s Horse paintings in front of people. Billy‘s spoken about it in interviews that I’ve super-glue-referenced into the Billy Childish wikipedia page. L-13 have done a load of prints. Things are going pretty well. The less behind-the-scenes Heckel’s Horse is, the harder I guess it is for the truth to get fudged later. Especially if Billy and I aren’t around by the time anything happens.
PUG: You’ve always got Jompiy.
EJ: Yeah, my solid backup plan. I don’t need to worry about Jompiy getting nicked.

2024.05.17 09:37 lyssam229 Is this a good email to send to the DA and police department about the way I feel concerning the treatment of my SA case 6 years ago?

***** I am mainly sending this because I want my evidence back and because I’m pissed that the police department allowed this to happen with next to 0 consequences. Names and identifying info redacted. Let me know if I should change anything, I genuinely am thinking about sending this to whoever I can find emails for at my local PD.
To Whomever This May Concern,
My name is *. I am 21 years old and am a recent graduate of the University *. I have made the difficult decision to write this letter because I am truly disgusted and horrified by the manner in which ** County, the ***** Police Department, and the Child Advocacy Center of *****, NY handled my allegations of rape, sexual assault, and stalking that were filed in 2019. I have allowed myself to move on and grow from this atrocious act that has significantly impacted my life, but my development as a functional, healthy adult has been drastically hindered due to the treatment and negligent investigation into this case.
I would like to describe my story in order to fully convey my frustrations. When I was fifteen years old in late July of 2018, just after my freshman year of high school, I began babysitting the child of a thirty-six-year-old man who my family and I knew quite well and had considered a family friend since I can remember. The premise of the childcare was to assist this man with daily tasks regarding his three-year-old daughter. The man in question was unemployed, but had a difficult time caring for his autistic child alone due to his anger issues, as recognized by the Department of Social Services.
When I began working for this family, the man in question, ****** (*) was in the home at all times in which I was present in the home. The events that led up to the detrimental and life-changing abuse that I experienced are too difficult to describe in one email. To summarize, this man groomed me, sexually assaulted me, and raped me on several occasions in his home over the course of six months. ** sexually abused me in his home, at my home, and in a vehicle. He bragged to his close friends, and specifically, his neighbor ***** and friend ****** about the things he had done to me. These witnesses were willing to comply with any investigation at the time of these events, but were not ever asked to answer questions. In addition, this man isolated me from family and friends, threatened to murder my entire family, and stalked me for a year after I ceased contact with him, which included 5+ drives by my home daily, waiting outside of my place of employment, and cyberstalking. This man used hard drugs in front of me and forced me to participate in and witness several illegal acts. I cannot convey with strong enough language, the impact that these events had on me as a naĂŻve and innocent teenager. He genuinely ruined my life and I deal with the effects every single day.
These events have seriously impacted my development into an adult, and hindered my growth on levels that the recipient of this email may not comprehend. During the end of my relationship with this individual, I had realized that this situation was extremely unsafe and had attempted to break contact. He threatened suicide as a punishment if I left him, so I agreed to meet with him at ******** high school in the mornings after I had gotten off the bus, as I was not yet old enough to drive myself. He forced me to remain in his vehicle from 8am until 9:30am during school hours for multiple days in a row. Several times during these meetings, in the parking lot of the school, he sexually abused me and at other times, drove at dangerous speeds with me in the vehicle on Route 8 in *******. School officials and police officers were well aware of these events after my whereabouts during several of these mornings had been discovered. This individual was then arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child but was released on bond the very next day. After much difficulty and explaining, I was granted with a temporary restraining order, which did not stop his advances. To this day, when I return to my hometown to visit family, I am afraid for my safety as I have to see this man in public at a gas station or at a local restaurant.
After a few months, in 2019, I had realized that I wanted to tell my story and that I wanted this man to be held accountable for what he had put me through. At just 16 years old, I went through a series of interviews held at the Child Advocacy Center in ***, NY, which only further traumatized me. A female officer involved with my case made me feel as if I had brought this onto myself due to the sympathy I felt for my abuser and the guilt that I felt about everything that had occurred. To clarify, I was a victim of abuse as a child and did not fully comprehend the extent of said abuse. The female officer was unwilling to recognize that I was a vulnerable, disadvantaged child who did not have the means to advocate for myself. Another male officer, Detective **** collected evidence from me, including an expensive necklace given to me by my abuser with, to my knowledge, a value of $3,000, as well as a letter from him where he confessed his love and relationship with me. He looked me in the eye and promised that I would receive justice. This officer never contacted me again after the interview. If nothing is going to be done about this rage-filled, aggressive, and dangerous pedophile, I would like the necklace and letter back that was entered into evidence in 2019.
I will never understand how a person can be subjected to such atrocious and vile acts, and nothing will be done about it. I am not a religious person, but I wake up every single morning praying that he has not found another victim to control and destroy. I pray for his family, especially his child, and I pray for those who have to encounter him. I pray for myself and my family, as my case has been dismissed and invalidated time and time again by the ***** police department. I pray that no other girl or woman has to experience the things I did, nor has to grow up so quickly the way I did. The treatment of this case taught me that I cannot rely on law enforcement, or on those who are supposed to protect me. I hope that my statements throughout this email encourages more thorough investigations into cases like mine. Women and girls need to be protected fiercely, strongly, and wholeheartedly. I was not provided with further resources to assist with my mental health during this time. The town I have grown up in and have always loved is forever tainted as the place where my life was ruined.
Today, as a strong, accomplished, and college-educated woman, I am extremely disappointed with the way my trauma and physical safety was dismissed by the ***** police department, ***** County as a whole, and the Child Advocacy Center of ******, NY. I will no longer be silenced by fear. I will say his name, as the guilt and shame I have experienced is not mine to bear. I am not looking for retribution, I am simply asking that you dedicate resources to believing victimized women and offering bare minimum, necessary support to women like me in the future.
Thank you for your time,

2024.05.17 09:33 CanWatk Should I pursue Sport Management or continue in medicine?

My concerns/issues:
I’m about to start my sophomore year of undergrad as a Biomedical Sciences major at a large university. I’ve been super interested in the human body and medicine for years. In high school, I was president of the Health Science committee and earned a license as a clinical medical assistant. I was top of my class and didn’t struggle a bit with academics. The transition to college was rough for me though. I ended up getting a C in basic Chem and Calc 1 even though I’ve made A’s in both those courses during dual credit in high school. One issue that bothers me is that the classes have around 200-600 students on average. It’s hard to hear professors and feel like your problems are being answered. I’ve started questioning my future and found that I am not super passionate in pursuing medical school, but it is still something I want to/can do and something I feel like I need to go through with. Keep in mind for later that surgery is something I find fascinating and would love to do.
This past semester, I started researching alternate careers or different paths that I’d be interested in. I discovered a Sport Management degree that I can finish in a shorter amount of time than I would finish my Biomedical Sciences degree in. If I switch to this degree, I would most likely try to become an athletic director at a collegiate level. I love everything about sports and college football/baseball. This seems like something I would love to do. There would be less schooling, less tuition, no grad school. If I change my mind later on, I can still use this degree to get a Master’s in Kinesiology and go to PT school — kind of a mix of medicine and sports.
The one thing holding me back is feeling like I failed. If I switch into Sport Management, I’d practically be giving up on years of dreaming of med school and becoming a doctor. Med school is by far more difficult. This major is going to be way easier than Biomedical Sciences and I think it would make me feel like I’m wasting my time. I know I’m smart enough for medicine… just don’t know if I want to stick it out. If I go to Sport Management route, surgery is off the table given that I at least do PT.
Possible Solution:
I could try to transfer to a smaller school with smaller class sizes after the spring semester. If I do this, I’d stay on the med route. This might help with getting a better understanding of material in class & help to better focus.
I apologize for the length of this post. I’m just very conflicted and feel like this is a huge, life-changing decision for me to make since this is the last year I’ll be able to change my major. If any of y’all have been in this same situation, I would very much appreciate if you could share how you handled it. Thank you.

Greetings, community!
First time Cardmarket user here. I would like to buy 5-10 Yu-Gi-Oh cards for collection and nostalgia purposes.

1) How safe is the Letter (1,40 €) Shipping? Have you had any orders lost in transit? 2) I'm from Romania, the shipping timeframe is 10-18 days, depending on the country of the seller. Is this timeframe accurate?
3) What is the shipping carrier used after the parcel enters Romania? Is it the national operated one, for example, 'The Romanian Post office'?
Also, if you have any tips for a first time user, please don't hesitate to share them.
I'm looking forward to your responses! Thank you!

"YĹŤrei Chronicles: Tales of Japanese Horror"
Chapter 1: "The Cursed Scroll"
In the heart of Kyoto, where history whispered through the ancient streets, there existed an antique bookstore known only to those who sought the rarest of tomes. Nestled among centuries-old texts and dusty manuscripts, a forbidden scroll lay hidden, waiting for an unwitting soul to stumble upon its chilling secrets.
Chapter 1: "The Cursed Scroll"
The quaint, dimly lit bookstore was a treasure trove of the past. Intricate calligraphy adorned scrolls, while faded ink whispered stories of long-forgotten samurai and mystical creatures. Among these relics of history, one scroll remained elusive, concealed behind a glass case. Its dark, ornate cover bore no title, and its presence seemed to beckon.
Haruki, a young scholar with a fascination for the occult, visited the bookstore one rainy afternoon. His curiosity led him to inquire about the enigmatic scroll. The elderly shopkeeper, Mr. Tanaka, peered at him with a knowing look, cautioning him about the scroll's malevolent reputation.
"Many have sought to uncover its secrets," Mr. Tanaka said, his voice trembling with age, "but few have lived to tell the tale."
Haruki, undeterred by the ominous warning, insisted on examining the scroll. Mr. Tanaka, sensing the scholar's determination, reluctantly unlocked the glass case. As Haruki unrolled the ancient parchment, he saw that it was filled with intricate symbols and incantations, written in a language he could barely comprehend.
For days, Haruki delved into the scroll's mysteries. His sleepless nights were filled with whispers from unseen forces, and chilling drafts seemed to haunt his small apartment. Yet, he pressed on, believing that the scroll held untold knowledge and power.
One fateful night, as a full moon cast eerie shadows across his cluttered study, Haruki recited an incantation from the scroll. The room grew icy cold, and an otherworldly presence enveloped him. A mournful wail echoed through the room, and Haruki's heart raced as he beheld the apparition before him.
A yĹŤrei, its long, disheveled hair obscuring its gaunt face, hovered in the air, its eyes filled with anguish and rage. It reached out bony, pale fingers toward Haruki, its spectral form translucent yet undeniably real.
In that moment, Haruki realized the scroll's true nature – a curse that summoned vengeful spirits to torment the living. He had unwittingly invited the yūrei into his world, and now, it sought retribution for its suffering.
The scholar's life turned into a nightmare as the vengeful spirit haunted his every waking moment. His research became an obsession to find a way to pacify the yĹŤrei and lift the curse. With each passing day, Haruki's health deteriorated, his body and mind succumbing to the relentless torment.
Desperate, he sought the guidance of a renowned exorcist, who revealed a grim truth. The only way to break the curse was to discover the scroll's origins and offer the yĹŤrei the peace it so desperately sought.
As Haruki ventured deeper into the scroll's history, he uncovered a tale of betrayal and tragedy that spanned centuries. With newfound knowledge and a heavy heart, he prepared to confront the vengeful yĹŤrei and set things right.
In a chilling confrontation between the living and the dead, Haruki faced the spirit, offering it the closure it craved. As the yĹŤrei dissipated into the ether, its mournful wail echoed one last time, fading into the night.
Haruki emerged from the ordeal forever changed, carrying the weight of the scroll's curse as a cautionary tale. The forbidden knowledge he had sought had come at a great cost, a reminder that some mysteries should remain hidden, and some curses should never be invoked.
As the sun rose over Kyoto, the antique bookstore remained shrouded in an eerie silence, and the cursed scroll returned to its cryptic slumber, waiting for the next unwitting soul to unlock its dreadful secrets.

Chapter 2: "The Shrine in the Shadows"
In the heart of a tranquil Japanese village, nestled among ancient forests, stood a centuries-old Shinto shrine, known to few but revered by all. This sacred place held an eerie secret, hidden in the shadows of its past.
Chapter 2: "The Shrine in the Shadows"
The village of Mizuki was picturesque, surrounded by dense woods and the whispers of rustling leaves. Its most treasured gem was the Shōrin Shrine, a sanctuary dedicated to the worship of the kami, where the villagers paid homage with heartfelt prayers and offerings.
On a bright spring morning, the Hayashi family moved into a charming house near the shrine. Yuko, a spirited young girl with inquisitive eyes, was enchanted by the quaint beauty of Mizuki and the mystique of the Shōrin Shrine. Her parents, Masato and Yuki, hoped the peaceful village would offer respite from the bustling city.
Their first evening in Mizuki was serene, and the family felt blessed to live in such an idyllic place. As night descended, they heard a faint melody echoing through the forest—a haunting tune played on a traditional shamisen. Yuko, drawn by curiosity, followed the eerie melody to the shrine.
At the shrine's entrance, she saw a flicker of movement among the trees and bushes. As her eyes adjusted to the dim moonlight, she gasped in awe and terror. There, bathed in an ethereal glow, stood a beautiful woman dressed in a white kimono, her long hair cascading like an ebony waterfall.
The woman's face bore an expression of immense sorrow, and her eyes seemed to pierce Yuko's very soul. In her delicate, spectral hands, she held a shamisen, its strings plucked by fingers that had long since turned to mist.
"Who are you?" Yuko asked, her voice quivering.
The apparition gazed at Yuko with an inscrutable sadness and whispered, "My name is Hana. I have been bound to this shrine for centuries, waiting for someone to hear my song."
Hana's story unraveled like a tragic tapestry before Yuko. She had once been a young woman in love with a humble fisherman from Mizuki. Their love was forbidden, and when their secret was discovered, they met a tragic end at the hands of the villagers.
As she spoke, the melody of her shamisen became more mournful, and the trees seemed to weep in sympathy. Hana's spirit, bound to the shrine, could only find solace by sharing her story with the living.
Yuko, moved by Hana's tale, felt a deep connection to the ghostly figure. She promised to help Hana find peace and bring her story to light. Together, they would uncover the truth behind the tragic love story that had ensnared the shrine for centuries.
As Yuko delved into the village's history, she uncovered hidden documents and ancient scrolls that confirmed Hana's story. The injustice done to Hana and her beloved was a blot on the village's past, a truth that had been concealed for generations.
With newfound determination, Yuko rallied the villagers to acknowledge the village's dark history and to seek forgiveness for the sins of the past. In a moving ceremony at the Shōrin Shrine, the villagers offered their prayers, and Hana's spirit was finally set free.
As the first rays of dawn bathed Mizuki in golden light, Hana's ethereal form dissolved into a wisp of gratitude and serenity. The shrine, once shadowed by sorrow, now radiated with newfound peace.
"The Shrine in the Shadows" became a tale passed down through generations, a reminder that love and forgiveness could transcend even the darkest of curses. Mizuki continued to flourish, its shrine standing as a testament to the enduring power of redemption.

Chapter 3: "The Haunting of the Geisha"
In the vibrant streets of 19th-century Tokyo, beneath the shimmering lanterns and behind the delicate allure of geisha, a haunting presence lurked—a presence that would forever change the life of a celebrated geisha named Kaede.
Chapter 3: "The Haunting of the Geisha"
In the heart of Tokyo's historic Yoshiwara district, Kaede was renowned as one of the most captivating and skilled geisha. Her beauty was ethereal, her dances mesmerizing, and her laughter like the tinkling of wind chimes. But beneath her porcelain makeup and the grace of her performances lay a heart heavy with secrets.
One cool autumn evening, as the lanterns cast their warm glow on the district, a newcomer arrived at the teahouse where Kaede performed. His name was Kaito, a handsome and enigmatic man with piercing eyes that seemed to see beyond the facade of the geisha. Kaede's heart quickened as their eyes met, and she felt a connection she had never experienced before.
As weeks turned into months, Kaede and Kaito's bond deepened, their love blossoming like the cherry blossoms in spring. But their love was a forbidden one, as Kaito was a samurai, and their worlds were as different as night and day.
One fateful night, Kaito revealed a dangerous secret to Kaede—he was involved in a plot against a powerful daimyo who ruled with cruelty and oppression. Kaito believed that by exposing the daimyo's corruption, he could bring justice to the people. He asked for Kaede's assistance in gathering information from the teahouse's influential patrons.
Reluctantly, Kaede agreed, and together, they embarked on a treacherous path filled with deceit and danger. As the days passed, they uncovered dark secrets that could expose the daimyo's crimes. However, their actions did not go unnoticed.
One evening, as Kaede performed for a gathering of influential men, a sinister figure appeared in the shadows. It was the vengeful spirit of a geisha named Akiko, who had perished in Yoshiwara under tragic circumstances. Her ghostly form was veiled in a blood-red kimono, and her eyes burned with malevolence.
Akiko's haunting began subtly—a chill in the air, whispers of despair, and a feeling of dread that hung over the teahouse like a shroud. Kaede, sensing the supernatural presence, knew that they had awakened a vengeful spirit.
Desperate to protect Kaede, Kaito sought the guidance of a local exorcist, who revealed the tragic story of Akiko. She had been a geisha in love with a samurai, but their forbidden love had led to betrayal and death. Her restless spirit sought vengeance on those who dared to love across societal boundaries.
With the exorcist's help, Kaito and Kaede embarked on a perilous journey to confront Akiko's spirit and offer her the peace she so desperately sought. In a climactic showdown, they faced the vengeful geisha, revealing the truth behind her betrayal and death.
As the first light of dawn bathed the Yoshiwara district, Akiko's spirit dissipated, her eyes filled with sorrow and resignation. The curse she had cast upon the teahouse lifted, and peace returned to the district.
Kaede and Kaito's love story continued, forever marked by the supernatural forces they had encountered. The teahouse thrived once more, its lanterns casting their warm glow over the enchanting district, where love knew no boundaries and forgiveness transcended even death.
"The Haunting of the Geisha" became a legend whispered among geisha in Yoshiwara, a testament to the enduring power of love and the consequences of forbidden desires in the mysterious world of Edo-era Tokyo.

Chapter 4: "The Onryo's Revenge"
In the heart of a decaying city, where abandoned buildings stood as silent witnesses to forgotten tragedies, a group of urban explorers would stumble upon a place where the restless dead held their sinister dominion.
Chapter 4: "The Onryo's Revenge"
The city of Kurayami had fallen into disrepair, its once-thriving industries crumbling, and its streets echoing with the memories of better days. Among its many derelict structures was the forsaken Kurayami Hospital, a place whispered about only in fearful tales.
Rumors spoke of a curse that had befallen the hospital after a gruesome series of medical experiments in the early 20th century. Patients had been subjected to horrific procedures, and their agonized cries still seemed to reverberate through the corridors.
A group of urban explorers, lured by the thrill of the forbidden and the allure of the macabre, set their sights on Kurayami Hospital. Among them was Hiroshi, the group's leader, and Yumi, a budding photographer with an affinity for capturing the eerie beauty of abandoned places.
As the explorers entered the hospital's crumbling entrance, they were greeted by the musty scent of decay and the eerie silence of long-abandoned hallways. Shadows danced in the dim light as they ventured deeper into the forsaken building, their footsteps echoing like distant whispers.
The group's excitement turned to unease as they encountered signs of the hospital's dark past—rusty surgical instruments, bloodstained gurneys, and cryptic medical notes. Yumi's camera captured it all, each photograph revealing more about the hospital's gruesome history.
As night fell, the explorers gathered in the hospital's decrepit lobby, their flashlights casting trembling beams into the darkness. It was then that they heard it—a faint, mournful wail, like the keening of a soul in torment.
Hiroshi, the group's fearless leader, brushed off their concerns, attributing the sound to the wind or their imagination. But the cries grew louder and more anguished, echoing through the halls.
The group became separated as they navigated the labyrinthine corridors. Yumi, camera in hand, wandered into the hospital's disused psychiatric ward. There, in a shadowed corner, she saw her camera's flash reveal a horrifying apparition—an onryo, a vengeful spirit with long, disheveled hair and eyes filled with hatred.
The onryo's spectral form contorted with rage as it approached Yumi. Its icy fingers reached out, and she felt an otherworldly coldness pierce her very soul. She knew that this was the spirit of a patient who had suffered unimaginable horrors in the hospital.
As Yumi's companions searched for her, they stumbled upon the onryo's lair and witnessed the terrifying encounter. In a desperate bid to save Yumi, they searched for a way to pacify the vengeful spirit.
Through a combination of research and communication with a local historian, they learned the full extent of the hospital's atrocities. Armed with this knowledge, they returned to the onryo's domain to confront the spirit and offer it the peace it had been denied for so long.
In a climactic showdown, the group faced the onryo, revealing the hospital's dark secrets and acknowledging the suffering of the tormented souls within. With profound remorse, they begged for forgiveness on behalf of those who had perpetrated the atrocities.
As the first rays of dawn broke over Kurayami, the onryo's anguished wails transformed into a mournful sigh. The spirit, its wrath finally quelled, dissipated into the ether, leaving behind a sense of profound sadness and closure.
The group of urban explorers emerged from Kurayami Hospital, forever changed by their encounter with the supernatural. They had confronted the past and offered redemption to the restless dead, leaving the decaying city with a newfound sense of hope.
"The Onryo's Revenge" became a cautionary tale among urban explorers, a reminder that some places are best left undisturbed, and that the past, no matter how dark, can be confronted and reconciled.

Chapter 5: "The Dollmaker's Curse"
In a remote mountain village, nestled among mist-shrouded peaks, a master dollmaker crafted exquisite creations that captured the hearts of collectors worldwide. Yet, within her secluded workshop, a malevolent force lurked—one that would ensnare a curious journalist in a nightmarish world of living dolls and dark secrets.
Chapter 5: "The Dollmaker's Curse"
Hidden away in the secluded village of Ichiban, known only to those who ventured deep into the mountains, lived a master dollmaker named Ai. Her dolls were celebrated for their lifelike beauty and craftsmanship, with collectors from distant lands coveting her creations.
One brisk autumn morning, a journalist named Keiko received a cryptic letter from a source in Ichiban, hinting at a sinister mystery surrounding Ai's dolls. Intrigued by the enigmatic message, Keiko embarked on a journey to the remote village, determined to uncover the truth.
Ichiban was a place untouched by time, its cobblestone streets winding through dense forests and past centuries-old homes. The village exuded an eerie tranquility, and the locals spoke in hushed tones about Ai's dolls, rumored to be infused with a piece of the human soul.
Upon reaching Ai's workshop, Keiko was greeted by the dollmaker herself, a woman of grace and poise. The workshop was a treasure trove of exquisite dolls, their eyes seeming to follow Keiko's every move. Among them, a particular doll known as Hikari stood out—a hauntingly beautiful creation with ebony hair and obsidian eyes.
As Keiko delved deeper into the village's mysteries, she discovered that Hikari was believed to house the soul of a deceased child, a belief held by both Ai and the villagers. The doll's unsettling presence and the uncanny resemblance it bore to a girl named Mei, who had died tragically years ago, sent shivers down Keiko's spine.
Keiko's nights in Ichiban were filled with restless dreams of porcelain dolls that came to life. In these dreams, Hikari beckoned her to uncover the truth behind the dollmaker's creations. Guided by an inexplicable compulsion, Keiko embarked on a quest to unearth the dark secrets hidden within Ai's workshop.
As Keiko investigated further, she uncovered Ai's own tragic past—a story of unrequited love, loss, and a desperate desire to capture the essence of the human soul in her dolls. With each revelation, the line between the living and the lifeless blurred, and Keiko felt herself becoming entangled in a nightmarish world.
The dolls that had once been works of art now seemed to harbor malevolence. They moved of their own accord, their eyes filled with an eerie, lifelike intensity. Keiko realized that Ai's obsession had bound her to a sinister force, and her creations hungered for more than just existence.
In a chilling climax, Keiko confronted Ai and the curse that had gripped her creations. Together, they sought to break the curse's hold and release the trapped souls within the dolls.
As the moon hung low in the night sky, Ai performed a solemn ritual, guided by the spirit of Mei, whose essence had been captured in Hikari. The dolls, imbued with a restless energy, gathered around, their haunting eyes watching as the curse was lifted.
With a mournful sigh, the dolls' porcelain features softened, and their malevolence dissipated. The spirit of Mei was set free, and the dolls became lifeless once more, their beauty preserved in eternal stillness.
Ichiban returned to its peaceful slumber, and Keiko departed with a newfound appreciation for the power of art and the depths of human longing. The village's haunting tale of the dollmaker's curse served as a reminder that some obsessions could lead to the creation of something far more sinister than art itself.

In a land steeped in history and tradition, the Aokigahara Forest, known as the "Suicide Forest," concealed a dark secret. Within its dense, ancient foliage, a group of hikers would embark on a journey that would lead them into the heart of a malevolent force.
Chapter 6: "The Shadow in the Forest"
Deep within the prefecture of Yamanashi, shrouded in a perpetual mist, lay the infamous Aokigahara Forest—an expanse of ancient woodland that held a dark reputation. Known as the "Suicide Forest," it had been a site of countless tragic deaths throughout the centuries.
A group of adventurous hikers, seeking to conquer the wilderness and challenge the forest's ominous legends, gathered on a chilly autumn morning. Among them was Akira, an experienced guide with a deep respect for the forest's history, and Yumi, a young woman in search of adventure and solace from her own troubled past.
The hikers ventured deep into the forest, their footsteps muffled by the thick blanket of moss and fallen leaves. The dense canopy above cast eerie shadows, and the trees seemed to whisper secrets of sorrow and despair.
As they trekked further into the woods, they began to notice strange occurrences—a disconcerting sense of being watched, distant whispers on the wind, and ghostly apparitions that flickered at the edge of their vision. Akira, the guide, attributed these phenomena to the forest's ominous reputation and urged the group to press on.
Yet, the forest's grip on their minds and senses tightened. Yumi, in particular, felt a strange connection to the haunting forces that seemed to lurk behind every tree. Inexplicable visions of tragedy and despair flashed before her eyes, and a sense of overwhelming dread enveloped her.
Night descended on the forest, and the hikers set up camp, their flickering campfire offering the only semblance of comfort in the oppressive darkness. It was then that Yumi encountered a spectral figure—a yūrei, her kimono tattered and her eyes empty voids.
The yĹŤrei beckoned to Yumi, her voice a mournful echo. Unable to resist, Yumi followed the apparition into the depths of the forest, her companions unaware of her disappearance. The yĹŤrei led her to a clearing where an ancient tree stood, its gnarled roots forming a grotesque face.
As Yumi approached the tree, she felt a malevolent presence—an ancient spirit of the forest itself. It spoke to her, revealing the tragic history of Aokigahara—the place where those who had lost hope sought refuge in death.
Yumi learned of the forest's vengeful guardian, a yĹŤrei born of countless lost souls, whose suffering fueled its malevolence. It was the embodiment of the forest's sorrow, forever bound to torment those who ventured within.
Realizing that Yumi was now connected to the yĹŤrei, her companions embarked on a desperate search to rescue her from the forest's clutches. With the guidance of Akira's knowledge and determination, they confronted the vengeful spirit, revealing the pain of their own pasts and the impact of their actions on the world around them.
As the first rays of dawn bathed Aokigahara in a pale light, the yĹŤrei's malevolence waned, and its grip on Yumi loosened. With a final sigh, it dissipated into the morning mist, its haunting presence released from the forest.

As Rei settled into her room, the oppressive atmosphere within the inn became palpable. Shadows seemed to dance in the corners of her vision, and strange, ghostly whispers echoed in the corridors. Unbeknownst to her, Rei had become a pawn in a centuries-old battle between the inn and the vengeful spirits that resided within.
In the dead of night, Rei awoke to a chilling presence at her bedside—an ethereal yurei, her white burial kimono flowing like a spectral river. The vengeful spirit's eyes held an insatiable hunger, and she reached out to Rei, her fingers icy and skeletal.
Rei's nights became torment as she encountered more yurei within the inn, each with their own tragic stories of betrayal, injustice, and unfulfilled desires. The spirits sought vengeance, and Rei's presence within the inn had awakened their malevolence.
Desperate to uncover the inn's secrets and free herself from the spirits' relentless pursuit, Rei sought the guidance of Eiko. The elderly proprietress revealed the tragic history of the inn—an establishment built on the suffering of countless souls who had met their demise within its walls.

Emi, the youngest of the Nakamura family, had grown up hearing stories of the kimono's mystical properties and the curse that clung to it. When her grandmother passed away, leaving the kimono in her care, Emi became the latest custodian of this fabled garment.
As the years passed, strange occurrences began to plague Emi and her family. The kimono seemed to have a malevolent presence, causing nightmares, unexplained accidents, and a growing sense of dread. Emi's husband, Toshiro, and their young daughter, Yuki, bore the brunt of the curse's effects.

In a serene suburban neighborhood, where cherry blossoms bloomed with each passing spring, lived a young couple, Hiroshi and Aiko, who were enamored with the charm of their new home. They had recently moved into a quaint, old-fashioned house that came with a peculiar antique mirror.
The mirror was ornate and beautiful, its frame adorned with delicate carvings of cherry blossoms. It had been left behind by the previous owner, a recluse who had passed away under mysterious circumstances. Little did Hiroshi and Aiko know that this mirror carried a malevolent secret.
As they settled into their new home, strange occurrences began to unfold. Reflections in the mirror seemed to distort, showing glimpses of eerie, shadowy figures lurking in the background. At night, whispers filled the room as if unseen voices murmured from within the glass.
Aiko, with her fascination for the occult, was the first to sense the mirror's sinister aura. She delved into research, uncovering tales of a cursed mirror that had plagued the previous owner's family for generations.
The mirror had once belonged to a vengeful spirit, a yĹŤrei who had perished in despair. Its malevolence was bound to the glass, and those who possessed it were tormented by the spirit's relentless anger and sorrow.
Desperate to free themselves from the mirror's curse, Hiroshi and Aiko sought the guidance of a spiritual medium. Through a series of rituals and sĂŠances, they made contact with the vengeful spirit trapped within the mirror.
The spirit's story unfolded like a tragic drama—the yūrei had been a young woman in love with a man from a rival clan. Their love was forbidden, and when their secret was discovered, they had both met a grisly end. Her spirit had been bound to the mirror as punishment for her defiance of societal norms.
With the medium's help, Hiroshi and Aiko offered prayers and apologies on behalf of the mirror's original owner, seeking forgiveness for the wrongs committed against the vengeful spirit. They vowed to help the spirit find peace and redemption.

Deep within the heart of the Japanese mountains, nestled among ancient forests and shrouded in mist, lay the village of Yamanokawa. It was a place where tradition and superstition still held sway, and the bridge that spanned the river was both a lifeline and a gateway to the unknown.
A group of adventurous travelers, drawn by the allure of Yamanokawa's untouched beauty, embarked on a journey to explore the village's remote reaches. Among them were Kaito, a historian with an insatiable curiosity, and Mia, a photographer who sought to capture the essence of this secluded world.
The village's centerpiece was the Akane Bridge, a weathered structure made of ancient wood and adorned with centuries-old lanterns. Its planks creaked with the weight of history, and the river below whispered tales of lives long gone.
As the travelers ventured deeper into Yamanokawa, they discovered that the villagers held a profound reverence for the bridge. It was said to be a link between the living and the dead, a place where offerings were made to appease the spirits that dwelled in the surrounding forest.
As night descended, the travelers set up camp near the Akane Bridge, its lanterns casting an eerie, flickering glow on the river's surface. It was then that they heard the sound—a mournful melody that seemed to emanate from the bridge itself.
Mia, driven by curiosity, followed the haunting tune to the bridge's edge. There, bathed in an otherworldly light, she saw a figure—a woman in a white kimono, her long hair flowing like an ebony waterfall.
The woman, whose name was Hikari, revealed herself to be a yĹŤrei, a spirit bound to the Akane Bridge for centuries. She had once been a young bride whose love had been torn apart by a tragic accident on her wedding day. Her spirit was eternally linked to the bridge, where she waited for her beloved to return.
Kaito, the historian, delved into the village's archives and uncovered the tragic story of Hikari's past. It was a tale of love and loss, of a bride whose life had been cut short, and a groom whose heart had been forever scarred by grief.
With newfound determination, the travelers sought to reunite the spirits of Hikari and her beloved. They embarked on a journey deep into the forest, following a path laden with offerings and prayers.

(Ugh mocking) (Sigh) Today's been such a slow day...I mean, who on earth buys a huge bouquet of roses when they have such a strong pollen allergy... seriously (giggle)
[Door knock]
Come in....
(Soon as your new patient arrives you're blown away by her beauty)
(Professionally nice but blown away) Hello, I'm Dr (insert asmrtist name) and you are...?
(Reverb thoughts) Wow she's so beautiful...
(Reverb pep talk) Can it (insert asmrtist name) she's a patient you can't afford to think like that. Be professional!
(End of reverb)
(Coming back to reality) Oh umm...pleased to meet you.
Take a seat please.
[For the whole interview question part you can add a soothing keyboard sound on the back if you'd like, like you're taking notes]
(Professionally nice) So...tell me, What brings you here today?
(Rethoric) Oh, so you got a new health insurance and they gave you a free checkup at this hospital?
(Nice) Ok. yeah, it's always good to get a checkup every once in a while.
Which health insurance company did you hire?
Yeah, their health plan is very complete.
Do you have any current symptoms of any kind?
(Rethoric) Small seasonal allergy?
(Giggling) Yeah, that's very common this days, tell me about it (giggle)
Any medication you're taking for it?
(Sounds logical) Oh, that's the standard.
Any other medications?
(Rethoric) Occasional aspirin for a headache?
Ok.. that's fine.
Any relevant medical history?
(Rethoric) You got your appendix out when you were 12? Ok...
And..no chronic diseases?
Glad to hear.
Diseases in the family? Cancer, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, anything relevant?
(Rethoric) Oh, your grandpa died from colon cancer 2 years ago?
(Sorry) Oh, sorry to hear.
And...how old are you?
(Giggle) I know, as a man it's never easy to ask that question, but as doctor I have to.
When was the last time you went to the doctor?
(Shocked) 2 years ago?!?!
Remember it's always good to see the doctor once a year. So I'm glad you're here now. (Seeth smile)
(Starting the physical examination) (End keyboard sounds)
(Always be calm, you want to inspire confidence to the listenepatient that there's nothing to worry about)
(Professionally nice) Alright. So I would like to start by assessing your vitals. I'm gonna check your pulse and then take your blood pressure...is that ok?
Alright... Just gonna get a feel here in your wrist...
(Wait a sec)
80... You're pulse is fine
If you would lend me your arm please, just gonna wrap the pressure cuff around.....
Alright...just relax.....you may feel some pressure while I take the measurement.
[Pressure cuff sound inflate and deflate]
75/110...
(Rethoric) Low?....
(Confident) Not really... it's said 80/120 is the standard, but it really depends on the patient, medical history, the height, the weight....so for you 75/110 is fine.
I'm gonna take a listen to your heart now. Ok?
Gonna warm up the stethoscope with my hands before I start ..
(Funny nice) You know, there's nothing meaner than a cold stethoscope (giggle). So I try to avoid that with my patients.
Alright, Just breath normally..
(Listening attentively) mmm....ok....
Could you squeeze both your hands really tight for me?, I'm gonna take another listen.
(You keep listening) mmm
Ok, relax...
Everything sounds normal.
Now I'm gonna listen to your lungs ok?
(Do not breath along you're listening) Take a deep breath for me...in ..........and out.......
Once more please...in......and out ....
Again.....in.......and out....
Last one.....in.....aaand out ....
Alright...it all sounds fine there.
Now, I'd like you lay down in the examination table so I can assess your abdomen ok?..
Alright.
There we go.
Now, I'm gonna lift up your shirt slightly, is that ok?
Ok ..
You said you haven't had any recent abdominal symptoms right?
Ok.
I'm gonna take a listen to your abdomen then..
Now, it may take some time for vowel sounds to appear, but that's normal, so you have nothing to worry about.
(Wait a few sec)
Ok, everything sounds fine.
Now I'm gonna do some percussion, this mainly requires me tapping around your abdomen to asses dullness ok?
Alright.
[You may include the abdominal percussion sounds if you'd like]
(Thinking aloud) (Something sounds a bit off but you don't wanna raise any alarms) Hmm...
Ok..
Now I'd like to palpate around your abdomen to check everything is fine...is that ok?
Ok..... Gonna start pressing here on the top center, any pain there?...people with reflux or heart burn tend to have pain around that area...
Nothing? Good.
Now pressing here on the right side...no pain?
Good.
Any pain or tenderness here on the lower area?....no?..good
Now pressing here on the left side.
(You feel a small-medium mass like 2 in big on that area and get concerned)
(Concerned) Hmmmmm.....hmmmm....
(Concerned) Any pain when I press here?
(Rethoric concerned) No?
Hmmm..
I'm gonna press a little deeper...
(Concerned) No pain when I press deeper?
Hmmmm
(Rethoric) What's wrong?
(Talking while feeling around) I'm feeling something here....
Feels like a small mass, a bit hard....
(Thinking out loud) It feels a bit irregular..hmmm
If you have any discomfort I need you to tell me please..
(She starts to stress and hyperventilate)
(Comforting) Hey hey hey, easy ok?
We don't know yet what it is... It may aswell be something simple.
Easy, I need you to calm down...
You're breathing to fast and that's gonna make you dizzy....
Deep breaths.....breath with me...in.....and out......in.....and out .....
That's it.....
(Professional) I'm gonna palpate one more time, I need you to stay calm please.
(Thinking out loud) Hmmmmm...ok.
Let's get back to the desk so we can discuss the next step.
(Wait a sec)
(Back at the desk)
(Calming her) Now I'd like to get you an ultrasound...
(She panics) Don't panic .. it's a painless procedure... And from there we'll know what's next ok?
(Rethoric) What could it be?
I don't want to jump into conclusions yet.
(Nice comforting worried) Just try to stay calm please.
Let me write you a prescription...
(Reverb thoughts concerned) I'm really worried about her...I do not like at all how that mass feels.
(Reverb feeling sorry for her) She looks so worried and no wonder....
(Reverb) Maybe I could get her that ultrasound after my last patient... I'm so tired though....I was supposed to go home and relax a bit. But poor lady..
(Rethoric) (Seeth) Curse your oversized heart (insert asmrtist name), ugh! Alright....
(End of Reverb)
(Thinking) Ummmm....
(Being nice) Look, I have only one more patient after you... If you'd like to wait... I could take you to the ultrasound room after and get the procedure done...
(Rethoric) Is it late for me?
(Lying to be nice) Nah, I was gonna do some paperwork after, but I can always do it tomorrow, so don't worry.
(Comforting) Hey, look at me....worrying is not gonna help... It could still be something benign..... so try to stay calm please?
Thanks.
(Calling your assistant) Anna?!
She's gonna wait in the waiting room until after the next patient.....
Could you please give her a tea with some honey?
Thanks.
Oh and, send in the last patient please.
(Talking to the patient again) Drink it please...the honey will prevent your pressure from falling after all that stress.
Alright.
(Voice fades away) Come in please....Hi, I'm doctor (insert asmrtist name).....

2024.05.17 06:46 rootinspirations Substitute doc said she'd give me cancer if she gave me HRT

I got lucky and found an amazing gyno who helped me find what worked for me via HRT. This was last summer and fall, with some trial and errors of course. But ultimately we found what worked! Estradiol patches and progesterone tablets. Plus a Kyleena. Which he inserted with numbing first.
So a few months ago I was coming up due for a renewal on my HRT. Only my gyno was on medical leave. The secretary had two gyno doctors in mind for good substitutes but my schedule didn't work with them. So we went with the third option which she didn't seem excited about.
This doctor... Yikes. During our visit, which was just a physical in order to renew my prescriptions mind you, she took away my progesterone cause "the kyleena is your progesterone, by taking the pill too you're basically doubling your progesterone." The next few weeks without that pill I was a mess!!! She made me go cold turkey which sent me into withdrawals. She said withdrawals weren't a thing. She didn't believe the pill did anything like help my moods.
She also wanted to switch me to a topical gel estrogen (I requested this as I was having issues with the patches) but she didn't make sure the insurance was agreeable to this first. Oh and she waited for my mammogram results to even put the prescription into the system. So there was a long delay that turned into insurance eventually denying the gel. She wouldn't reply to my messages or phone calls very fast and when her assistant did call me there was still a lot of back and forth and no compassion for what I was going through without my HRT.
During that initial appointment she also got very irritated that I hadn't had a mammogram since 2019. She stressed how dangerous HRT was and that she would NOT be the doctor who gave me cancer. She had her hand on her heart when she swore this lol.
She couldn't answer some simple questions I had and was actually googling stuff on her laptop right in front of me. She scoffed at my walking my dog for betterthannothing exercise (oh, I know it's not really enough but damn, let's just make your patient feel like a total loser this entire appointment huh????).
After I started really pushing back on the HRT things a few weeks later the assistant was like "your original doctor is back from medical leave, should we just start over with him?" Heck yes??! He was over an hour late to the appointment (got stuck in a surgery) but it was worth it.
No lap top in his face. Addressed all my concerns. Assured me the threat of cancer was minimal. Gave me my HRT back with a solution for the problem I was having with the patches and a back up plan for a gel if I did still need it. I left and within thirty minutes the pharmacy was calling me saying my HRT was ready. Like, he made it an emergency order. I cried happily.
I hope this post isn't too disjointed. Thank you for reading my rant and rave.

2024.05.17 06:42 Shadowbandits Software vs. Hardware Render Difference

Hello. I was trying to render out a 3D scene, however, the 'software' render type in the 'Renderer3D' node doesn't have any kind of super sampling / antialiasing. When I switched to the 'hardware' render type to have this option, the glowing effect I had created for the TV scenes was ruined, and I can't figure out how to fix it.
I achieved the glowing effect by using the 'Glow' node with the 'Solarize' blend node after the diffuse map, then placing spotlights behind the individual TV screens. Hopefully this information helps and you can assist me, thank you.

How to Get Off the Waitlist and Negotiate Better Financial Aid for Medical School

Written and edited by the MCAT Self Prep Tutoring Team
Home of the Free MCAT Prep Course
It’s that time of year again! Every April, medical school applicants begin the last phase of the medical school journey: negotiations.
While you can still maintain all of your positions on any waitlists, this narrowing process allows for mobility. New spots become available for individuals to move off of waitlists, additional financial aid frees up to be redistributed, and added movement creates the perfect opportunity for negotiation. These tips helped me turn my dream school (UCLA) from one of my most expensive initial offers into the cheapest option overall! Through our admissions consulting program, these strategies have also helped my students get into top 10 medical schools and save hundreds of thousands of dollars in financial aid. I hope they can help you too!
Whether you are hoping to turn a waitlist into an acceptance or get more financial aid, you must understand that asking never hurts. The worst thing that can happen in negotiation is that the medical school says…. no. If the worst-case scenario plays out, you’ll simply be back in the exact position from where you started. With a huge potential payoff and minimal downside, realize that advocating for yourself at this stage may be the most critical piece in applying to medical school. This realization empowered me to be bold in three key ways.

1. Communicating interest/intent (most important)

To achieve success in negotiation, medical schools need to know that they will gain something from the process. Your most powerful bargaining tool is your willingness to attend their institution. Understand that medical schools care deeply about their retention rate (the percentage of admitted students who ultimately choose to attend). Even the schools with the highest retention rates only retain about 70% of their admitted students. So if a school can guarantee that they will keep you, this dramatically improves your chances of a successful negotiation.
When negotiating, you can extend promises to various schools depending on your interest level. The strongest commitment you can send a school is “____ is my top choice for medical school and I will attend ____ if admitted, no matter the cost or other circumstances.” This commitment is the best thing you can say to increase your odds of turning a waitlist into an acceptance. The next most powerful thing you could say would be, “This is my top choice and I will attend ____ if admitted, barring any significant financial barriers.” This allows for some wiggle room if you ultimately decide not to attend. The least strong statement you can make is, “____ is one of my top choices for medical school and I am extremely interested in matriculating, barring any significant financial restraints, etc.”
This final statement does not guarantee anything to the given school other than your interest. However, if you make these statements, you must follow through with your promises. While you want to make the school believe that you will attend, you do not want to lie. Lying in negotiations is not only wrong, but it can ultimately hurt your chances if discovered. You must follow through with any clear commitments that you make. Remember, the more a school is convinced of your commitment to attend, the more favorably they will treat you.

2. Updates

Updates are another essential part of negotiation. They communicate your interest in the school and potentially sway a committee to extend you an acceptance or more aid. Yet, updates are not as important as expressing interest. For the most part, if a school interviewed you, that means that they believe you could succeed at their institution academically.
Understand that once you make it past the interview, your job is to show how you would contribute to the class, not to prove that you are competent. New publications, significant awards, and updated hours help to establish a pattern of excellence but try to frame these updates into how they would benefit your classmates rather than how impressive they make you seem.

3. Negotiating with multiple medical school offers

Whether hoping to move off of a waitlist or more financial aid, you should always use competing offers as bargaining tools. If you are hoping to get off of a waitlist, use other offers as a way to express your commitment to your top choice waitlists. Tell them that you would instead attend school ____ than your current offer. If you can promise them that you will attend, this will further increase your commitment in their eyes. Other offers can also help negotiate financial aid with competing schools. Be careful. Playing schools off each other can be extremely delicate as you still want to establish that you are deeply committed to attending the school of interest.
However, you’ll need to play hard to get. If you tell them directly that you will happily attend with their current financial package, there will be no need for them to increase your aid. Not all schools are open to negotiation, but if they are willing, I would highly recommend this approach. For example, you could express that attending a different school would allow for a lower cost, better location, proximity to family, any factor that could influence your decision. Ultimately, simply asking could save you thousands of dollars.
Here is a sample letter:
This opening letter establishes intent, using the second-highest form of commitment: commitment to enroll if there are not significant financial barriers. I also told the school that they were my #1 choice. Here, I promise to attend their school if they offer a specific amount.

Bonus Tip: Playing hard to get

Remember that sometimes you need to start with a higher request in negotiations than what you expect. In negotiation, the receiving end may counter-offer with a lower amount until you arrive at a happy medium. This is exactly what happened to me! The school I negotiated with came back and offered me more aid, but an amount that was significantly less than I had hoped. In response, I decided to play hard-to-get. While I do not always recommend this choice, there was nothing to lose at this point.
Again, I cannot stress enough the maintaining your commitment to attend the school. Even while playing hard to get. Your commitment to attend the school is your most powerful bargaining chip, do not spend it lightly.
After sending this letter, the school I was negotiating with came back with the offer that I was hoping. Now, I will never know whether this letter was the ultimate reason for my successful negotiation, but similar tactics have worked for other students as well. I hope these tips help get you off waitlists and negotiate for better financial aid. Medical school is incredibly expensive, but remember that this investment will be worth it regardless of cost.

Clov as a meme, Clov's reddit, and Andrew's recent comments regarding saas
Hello fellow apes,
This is going to be a long post because there are several topics I want to discuss with you all. We will cover three main points:
  1. Clover Health as a meme stock
  2. The issues with Clover Health on Reddit
  3. Clover Health's SaaS now that we have gone over the earnings
Clover Health as a Meme Stock
I know some groups are trying to label Clover Health as a meme stock due to the recent price surge following Roaringkitty's tweet. However, this was not a short squeeze. Instead, it was an organic movement driven by several factors: shorts exiting their positions, fears of a potential squeeze, positive news for Clover Health, and institutional buying. The company was undervalued, being priced as if it were on the brink of bankruptcy, despite being a sustainable and profitable company outperforming larger competitors like United Healthcare, Aetna, CVS, and Humana. The medical cost ratio (MCR) is strong, the company isn't retreating from any markets, it has a margin of $4k per member, and it's about to announce a new SaaS offering that is currently under NDA. We can dive deeper into this issue later, for now, let just focus on some basic graph.

Analyzing both the company's performance and indicators of market manipulation, Clover Health (CLOV) does not align with the trading patterns of prominent meme stocks like GameStop (GME) or AMC Theatres (AMC), particularly in terms of moving averages. In recent days, the stock movements of Clover Health have been organic, indicating that it is distancing itself from its previous reputation as a meme stock. Despite this shift, some individuals continue to promote the narrative that Clover Health remains a meme stock, primarily because they benefit from short-selling it. Since 2021, these short sellers have capitalized on inflating the stock price to $28.85 by encouraging retail investors to buy heavily, which drew significant attention to the stock. However, since that spike, there has been a concerted effort to label Clover Health as a meme stock doomed to fail, despite the company showing marked improvement. Recent earnings reports from Clover Health demonstrate that it is outperforming traditional healthcare companies, both in terms of the Medical Cost Ratio (MCR) and managed care, further disproving the fading meme stock narrative.
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1crgmjp/comparison_of_moocaos_23q4_projections_vs_moocaos/
In short, the company is doing well and has the potential to compete with larger companies that are currently in trouble due to years of neglecting its managed care populations.
However, on the issue of stock manipulation, I was made of the various groups of brigades occupying the clover health reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/CLOV/
When my friends and I noticed that short sellers were using the Clover Health Reddit forum to manipulate stock prices through tactics like dog whistling and spreading FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt), we quickly set up a dataset to document all instances of misinformation, dog whistles, and identify those responsible. Given the legal implications, I felt compelled to act, especially since I was also a moderator on the Clov Reddit forum at the time. To address this, I gathered the evidence and presented it to the other moderators, hoping we could collaborate to report and stop the manipulative activities occurring on the forum. Unfortunately, my concerns were dismissed, and the other moderators tried to convince me that it was not a significant issue. Below is the conversation I had with the moderators. For reference, 'Jimmi' goes by the username Thisisjimmi on Reddit.
https://preview.redd.it/yb47of7ecw0d1.png?width=1380&format=png&auto=webp&s=a4404a6b3719d7f56f7e3b36b8516f24b7cc8e9b
Since the mods did not agree with me, I resigned from my position. The boys and I also filed reports with the SEC and Clover Investor Relations to inform them of the occurring stock manipulations. About a week later, I got a message from Jimmi on discord which I ignored.
https://preview.redd.it/nu6z8krtdw0d1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e0f040238611fd1f8f104d861bc4879dc85849c
I find it ironic that after I reported certain individuals to the SEC and Clover Health's Investor Relations (IR) team for unethical behavior, these same individuals threatened to report me to the SEC. Following my report, messages flooded the forum suggesting that no action would be taken. At that time, I wasn’t overly concerned; my primary goal was to perform my due diligence to protect myself should the issue escalate in the future. We continued to document everything and sent the information to the SEC to safeguard ourselves. Initially, it seemed like nothing would come of our reports. However, suddenly and inexplicably, only the Clover Health subreddit began experiencing technical "glitches."
https://preview.redd.it/m4t2xvcvew0d1.png?width=2525&format=png&auto=webp&s=43cd76e43fbc0b4c627cd96b6e9bff1285d56d0c
https://preview.redd.it/9v2e9ziafw0d1.png?width=2535&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ef47c768d73da55cf969b8a4cebf1246fcf2eda
From the screenshot provided, it's clear that something unusual occurred. Historically, the Clover Health subreddit has never reached over 6,900 members online at once—not even during the peak of the $28 pump-and-dump event. This spike lasted for about five minutes and then disappeared. A few weeks later, there was another strange incident where the subreddit seemed to vanish for approximately two minutes. I have a screenshot of this incident, but I need to locate it. No other subreddit experienced these issues, leading us to suspect that it might have been due to website flash mirroring. Despite ongoing stock manipulation, no significant action was taken until a recent development: during Clover Health's latest earnings announcement, Andrew Toy introduced a $20 million stock buyback program. A fucking penny stock doing a stock buyback. This was when we knew that Clover IR was listening, and they responded in the best way possible.
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1cmw9xk/clover_health_q1_earning_brief_andrew_troy_is_an/
It was at this moment that I felt ready to explain the reason behind the creation of this Reddit. I am passionate about writing on healthcare topics and educating others. However, I could not justify continuing to contribute to a subreddit that was involved in manipulating stock prices. Such actions can lead to people losing their livelihoods, and in extreme cases, even their lives. In my view, the behavior of those short-selling the stock is cruel, and I refuse to be part of such activities.
The activities on our subreddit, Healthcare_Anon, have evolved significantly. Initially focused on Clover Health, our scope has broadened to cover a substantial portion of the healthcare sector. This expansion is likely because many of us work in healthcare and are committed to being the change we want to see in the world. This broader focus has led to discussions like the recent post about Andrew's presentation at the Bank of America Healthcare Conference.
https://www.linkedin.com/posts/toyand_im-at-the-bank-of-america-healthcare-conference-activity-7196533524701552640-u_6P/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios
Toy basically reiterated Moocao's findings when he did the DD of their recent earnings. "Aetna and Humana are being very clear right now that they need to prioritize margin and profit restoration in the next few years and they will slow growth and even shrink in order to do that."
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1cjpur9/cvs_q1_2024_earnings_analysis_earnings_call10q/
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1ckys79/alhc_q1_2024_earnings_analysis_earnings_call10q/
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1ce2ps8/humana_q1_2024_earnings_analysis_part_1_earnings/
These companies will need to scale back if they aim to remain profitable because their profit margins are diminishing. In contrast, Clover Health's margins are improving. This shift occurred because traditional healthcare insurers focused too heavily on pursuing growth, becoming complacent with rising healthcare premiums and relying on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to continually adjust rates to support this growth. Meanwhile, they invested minimally in developing infrastructure to enhance their managed care systems and the overall health of their populations. Andrew Toy echoed a point we've been discussing for months: these companies are too large and established to adapt quickly to the ongoing and forthcoming changes in the Medicare Advantage (MA) program and CMS regulations. Recovery will take years, and while we have hypotheses about the timing, Moocao is waiting for a few more earnings reports to solidify his theory.
Unfortunately, there's been a misunderstanding regarding Andrew's post; some people think he plans to sell Clover Assistant. I want to clarify this point. Those who believe he would sell the platform are overlooking the reality of the competitive landscape. Major companies like UnitedHealth (UNH) and Epic dominate the market, and they are not going to relinquish their positions easily. They will undoubtedly invest in developing their own solutions to tackle issues related to the CMS-HCC V28 and upcoming policy changes.
"And the answer is - yes we believe there is a huge opportunity to bring the power of the CA platform to providers to use with any payor. It would likely have a much lower per-life customer acquisition cost than the Medicare Advantage plan and we would aim to allow physicians to use the same tool for all their MA patients (a common request). Because of our technology background, we’d aim to support per member per month (PMPM) SaaS-like recurring revenue models. Because of our Insurance background, we’d also be very comfortable taking value-based risk. And most importantly, we’ll be improving patient health outcomes by giving as many physicians as possible access to data and AI for the purpose of managing chronic disease.I feel the current market disruption is very much in our favor."
Additionally, it’s important to recognize that Clover Health has consistently positioned itself as a physician enablement insurance company. Clover plans to sell the Clover Assistant (CA) to physician offices, integrating it with their existing electronic health records (EHR) systems. Moreover, you should consider the unique advantages ("moats") that make Clover Health distinct and difficult for traditional companies to replicate.
Also, why are some people overlooking Andrew's comments about Aetna and Humana lacking agility? It's unrealistic to think these companies could seamlessly integrate Clover Assistant into their systems overnight. The integration works for Clover because the insurance company was specifically built around the Clover Assistant, not the other way around.
Furthermore, we must not overlook the role of various healthcare brokers (clearance houses) in each region, which adds another layer of uniqueness to Clover's approach. If you want to delve deeper into why Clover Health’s model is unique, you can refer to my previous posts.
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1bpnf5p/clover_healths_diamond_mine_irb_hipaa_p4_and_ai/
The key point I'm trying to convey is that a deep understanding of healthcare from an administrator's perspective is essential to appreciate why Clover Health (Clov) is intensely focused on physicians rather than traditional health insurance companies. Clover aims to encompass the entire spectrum of care, extending beyond just Medicare Advantage (MA) and providing SaaS solutions to its competitors, who, incidentally, aren't interested in these offerings. Remember when the Chief Medical Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield publicly criticized Andrew during an earnings call two sessions ago? Their dismissal suggests they don't perceive Clover Assistant (CA) as particularly unique or special. This underscores the industry's skepticism toward Clover's innovative approach.
For those of you who are interested in my opinion, I believe Andrew's post is a strategic vision for expanding the use of the Clover Assistant (CA) platform beyond just Clover Health's own Medicare Advantage (MA) patients to include providers serving patients with different insurers. The key points of the strategy include:
  1. Broader Usage and Lower Costs: The plan is to make the CA platform accessible to healthcare providers for use with any payer, which could significantly reduce customer acquisition costs compared to those associated solely with Medicare Advantage plans.
  2. Uniform Tool Across Patients: There's an emphasis on enabling physicians to use the same tool for all their Medicare Advantage patients, responding to a common request for more streamlined processes.
  3. Revenue Model: Leveraging their technology expertise, the company aims to adopt a SaaS-like (Software as a Service) revenue model, charging on a per member per month basis, which would ensure a steady, recurring income. This is also a cheaper and more scalable model for small businesses.
  4. Taking on Value-Based Risk: With their background in insurance, they are confident in taking on value-based risks, which involve being financially responsible for the quality of patient care, not just the volume of services provided--as fucking demonstrated by their recent earnings and margins.
  5. Improving Health Outcomes: The ultimate goal is to enhance patient health outcomes by providing physicians widespread access to data and AI tools specifically designed for managing chronic diseases.
  6. Market Opportunity: The passage concludes with optimism about the current market conditions, suggesting that the ongoing disruptions in the healthcare market align well with their strategic goals, positioning them to capitalize on these changes effectively.
Overall, the strategy reflects a vision to expand and enhance the impact of their technology on healthcare, focusing on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and improved outcomes through advanced data and AI applications. It is not about selling it to the big guy. Clov and its board want to be the next UNH--not Optum.
Thank you for reading my posts and supporting this subreddit. I know my posts are lengthy, but it's important to me that you understand the full context and not just rely on soundbites. Some of you may not remember, but I started as a lurker just like many of you. My journey into posting began when a fellow Clover Health redditor, who had lost a significant amount of money, reached out to me in a state of despair, even contemplating suicide. That incident motivated me to start writing detailed analyses (DD) on Clover Health. For the past three years, my goal has been to prevent harm caused by those manipulating the stock market.
Fast forward to today, I now write as a hobby, aiming to educate and assist as many people as I can. Some may think it’s a futile effort and that no one cares, but Clover’s recent announcement of a stock buyback program is evidence to the contrary—they do care. However, they cannot engage in the illegal activities some have suggested; doing so would bring serious trouble for Clover. You think it's ok, but they are market manipulation and taking advantage of shareholders. Andrew is nor A-A-Ron.
Nevertheless, I hope you understand my point. One of the biggest misconceptions these short sellers have spread is the belief that your actions are insignificant. They are not. Their seemingly "innocent" spreading of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) has caused the company’s value to plummet to beyond bankruptcy levels multiple times over the past three years, wreaking havoc on many lives. I'll let you decide whether your actions are significant.

  3. You are right. Neither of us want Arcasian greed to spread across Merkorpa.
  4. The violence you mention is the responsibility of a select few individuals. They are being dealt with.
  5. Wehlen is our direct neighbor and our historical ally. We will always prioritize relations with your country over Rumburg.
  6. I agree that closer cultural and economic ties could benefit both nations.
First term to trade deal: Tell me about trade deal, Mr. President

  3. As a stakeholder in Rizia’s royal mining company, I have a vested interest in keeping gold production consistent.
  4. I never heard of Wehzek woodcarvings.
Second term to trade deal: Is the bilateral migration agreement what it sounds like?
  1. I can extend those rights to the Wehzeks currently living in Zille. But to every citizen in Wehlen?

Third term to trade deal: I’m interested in hearing more about this anti-terrorism Pact.
  1. They’re a dangerous terror organization whose fight for ‘freedom’ has cost many innocents their lives.

  3. Yes, their religious fanaticism makes them even more dangerous.
  4. That's it?
  5. Or what?
  6. I am all for proactivity. If we don't nip terrorism in the bud now, we will pay a steep price later.
  7. I see. A small contribution towards the greater fight against terrorism. (only appears if you have enough ships)
  8. Not everything, what’s this about a three-year timeline?
  9. Do not doubt my kingdom's ability to deliver on its promises.
Enact these trade agreements:

  • Exports: Wine and Small arms
  • Promise aid against BFF
  • Do not ban Bluds and Deridans

Max budget! It's Romus the Rich!
[1] 1958 Rizia Charter Law: The populace loves you! Sign the new constitution. Make your speech. Appoint Manus Sazon as Head of Government. We fooled the nobles.
[2] Last meeting with the Royal Council: Have one last meeting with your councilors who despite having their own agendas, stuck with you to the very end. Say your final goodbyes.
[3] Beach with Axel Reinhart: Ask him about his marriage with Vina. Order a drink. Listen to Axel's concerns back in Pales. Say that the new constitution is there for a new era of peace. Lespia got bamboozled so much they're pissed off at Rizia but can't do anything about it since they're in ATO. Talk about Intermerkorpum. When Axel brings up Rizia taking care of Pales, tell him to accept Centralization politely. Axel accepts the terms and Pales rejoins Rizia!
[4] Fate of the Prisoners: DO not execute anyone!
[5] Final Speech: Announce your speech to the people. Rizia is now a regional powerhouse rivaling Lespia and Valgsland. The constitutional monarchy remains with the support of the nobility and people. The best place to live in Merkorpa. Say all the achievements you made in your reign.
Ending: Romus the Great and Rayne The Conqueror

2024.05.17 05:24 RED-HAlRED-SHANKS Phases of a detention officer

Hello, I will be speaking about all the test phases I went through to become a detention officer for future people who are applying as a detention officers.
I submitted my application on 3/11/2024 and I applied for HCSO (Harris County Sherriff Office)
Physical Agility- I went for the physical agility test on 03/20/2024 and what we did during the test was squats with hands straight forward, another thing we did was doing squats on motion but while putting one knee to the ground and bending it and the last thing we did was being able to lift a dummy which weighted i think 30 or 60 kg to the other side of the hallway and bringing it back. The exercises were very easy and everyone passed it that was there with me.
Background phase- This phase took the longest, they began my background phase on 03/20/2024 and ended on 05/06/2024. I had two background different investigators assigned to me, they transferred my investigation to another BI during about the 2nd week of being in contact with my first one. On 04/17/2024 I received a call from my BI and we scheduled a in person interview. I dressed normally as I was told to do so. While being there I was asked mainly 1 question and I think it was "why do I want this job" and "do I see this as a long term". I was asked questions about if I had ever done drugs and why I was fired from my old job and just some basic questions they always ask. After these questions I was given a form which was the "polygraph" It was a paper asking questions about all types of stuff. They didn't use a lie detector on me, I just did the paper and they believed in my answers. After the interview my BI said to email them if there isn't any updates on my case and exactly two weeks later I emailed her and she submitted my files and I moved on the the next phase and filled a form to accept the job offer.
Medical phase- This was the last phase, it began on 05/06/2024 and was the quickest phase and finished in about two days. I went to a mental doctor and did physical evaluation test, I had to do two assessments and had a final interview with him. He asked me basic questions about myself and then went on asking me questions about situations in a jail and a question I remember he asked was "What would you do if inmates or people in the jail call your racial things and I to summarize it I said I will ignore it and use brain instead of fist. I passed this test and did drug test same day which I had to pee in something and after submitting the stuff to the people, I got accepted two days later and had my orientation on 05/14/2024 and will began the academy training very soon in two days.
Thank you for your time and I hope this will help future officers who will need help with questions!

2024.05.17 04:28 meme-lord-Mrperfect Fulgrim and the Muse: Prologue

VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED. There is some gore, nothing to descriptive, but if you have a weak stomach maybe pass on this one.
ALSO: This is a first draft, will post the revised one later.
Adonis came from a backwater mining world that had maintained much of its mining equipment and a base level of industry during the age of strife. Adonis lived a relatively uneventful life on this planet, being the only child to two parents who had gone missing when he was twelve, he would enter the mines earlier than most, but only slightly as although technically mining jobs could only be conducted by those older than eighteen, however through necessity children as young as thirteen would entire the mines to help sustain their families. These younger workers would be given relatively safer jobs compared to the older workers, monitoring equipment and other surface operations as examples. Even still this labor was backbreaking, and would more often than not result in the early demise of many inhabitants of this planet.
On his first day in the mines, Adonis would be paired with a girl who was fifteen years old, slightly taller than him, who stood at 4’11” at the time. She had short, light brown hair, and a thin but muscular build. They were trained on how to monitor the Auto-miner machine, and who to contact if anything went wrong. They were then given some time to get acquainted with one another before beginning their work. The girl introduced herself first.
“Hello, my name is Roleru, I look forward to working with you”, she responded with more enthusiasm than a young teen forced into the mines should.
“Adonis, and likewise”, He responded a bit hesitant. He was not looking to make friends. He barely wanted to be working, let alone in a mine, he would work there no longer than he had to, then he would find better work elsewhere. Adonis was still confused about where his parents had gone, and why they had left him behind
After this they were led down into the mines, making small talk on the rusty service elevator, and it turns out she was an only child as well. They shared a lot in common, her father had died in a mining accident, and her mother was unable to work due to worsening illness. She was working to support both her mother and herself, She seemed relatively upbeat despite a life of tragedy. Maybe he could learn from her, and piece back together his recently shattered life. In this rusted mine elevator a friendship was born, and many days they would start their days talking to each other on this elevator. Their main job was to monitor a large mining machine, and if anything goes wrong to immediately hit the emergency shutdown. This machine was larger than any Adonis had seen, towering over him and with many large grinding wheels to slowly break down rocks into progressively smaller chunks, until they are eventually spit out onto a long conveyor belt. An observation catwalk overlooked this series of crushers, with simple metal railings, and a solid metal floor to prevent any dropped materials from potentially damaging the equipment. They were shown to the cabin, where a vast array of displays and buttons could be found, and one large red button in a plastic case with the panel behind it painted a surprisingly vibrant yellow considering the dirty state of everything, and above it set on a background of hazard stripes the word “Emergency Shut-Down” could be seen in distinct red lettering. The operator that led them here initiated the machine to start up, and their work began in this cramped cabin where Roleru and Adonis would become practically siblings, with Roleru practically becoming Adonis’ older sister.
About 3 years of this work would go by in the blink of an eye, Adonis now fifteen is the same age as Roleru was when she started working in the mines. Now that Roleru could officially work in the mines, she would be given more training on how to actually operate the machine she had monitored for so long. Adonis was so proud of his big sister they celebrated that night, getting some slightly higher quality rations to have a feast that night. Any decent quality food was a real commodity on (insert planet name here).
However, the happy times wouldn’t last, as a couple of months later Roleru’s mother would die due to her illness. Although she would return to a happier mood after properly grieving, she never seemed quite the same to Adonis. They would continue to work in the mines together as they always had, now with no technician to accompany them to start the equipment. Together they would continue to grow closer, practically inseparable at this point, Roleru found a lot of comfort in Adonis’ presence which was sorely needed when she was grieving.
During this entire time Adonis would look for his parents in his free time, following any leads he could find. He would discover at the same time of Roleru’s mother’s passing that his parents had also passed in a mining accident, operating the same machine he and Roleru were working with. This fact would linger in the back of his mind at work from then on, disturbed by the potential lethality of the machine he interacted with daily.
Another 3 years would pass, Adonis and Roleru would continue to grow together. Moving in together, as any family should, and for financial reasons. Adonis, now 18, had recently finished his training on mining machine operation and maintenance. Roleru, now 21, had prepared the same high quality rations they had when she was promoted for that night's dinner. However, tragedy would strike during the workday, as Roleru would slip on the catwalk of the machine while it was in operation, and fall into the crushing gears. Adonis would immediately hit the emergency stop. As the loud machine whirred down, there was still energy in the gears, they would slow to a stop in the silence, but in the silence there was a sickening wet ripping sound, followed by a desperate pained scream. Adonis would quickly call for help before going down to help Roleru, however the sight he saw in the maw of this great devourer was horrifying. The entrails of his sister decorated the grinding gears like some sick and twisted form of party streamers, and the blood oh god the blood. Adonis could hear pained groans and he quickly scrambled to find the rest of Roleru. He would find her shortly after he began searching.
“No. no no no no. Stay with me! Help is on the way, you’ll be okay”, Adonis pleaded with Roleru.
“Sorry cough cough I guess I was too careless” Roleru responded, blood rolling out of her mouth. Internal bleeding, or is it external in this case? Ah semantics don’t matter, thought Adonis. The light was already fading from her eyes, unsurprising for the amount of blood loss, and the gore.
“NO! Don’t leave me, don’t leave like they did.” Adonis pleaded with a raspy voice through choked sobs, unsure of when he started crying. “Please stay with me, you promised you would.” He held her close, trying to comfort her in any way he could while desperately trying to stop the bleeding before the medical team arrived.
“I’m so sorry, I wish I could stay with you longer.”, Roleru said calmly, though the tears rolling down her face betrayed her true emotions. “I’ll always be with you in spirit.”
With that final statement she died in his arms, he would clutch the gorey remains of his sister, screaming and crying until the medical team arrived. They had to peel him off of her remains, essentially dragging him out of the mine for the day, on his walk back to their shared home, he would see a strange looking official giving a speech he only overheard part of it and he was only vaguely paying attention.
“From this day forward you will pay a tithe to the Imperium of man”, the official stated. A new ruler? Happens all the time, nothing to worry about Thought Adonis, little did he know this announcement would soon turn his already tumultuous life upside down.
He entered the hab building, and saw the two ration packets set out on the table, along with a small rectangular box. Adonis opened it, his hands still caked in Roleru’s blood. Inside was a simple silver locket, containing a photo of the two of them 3 years ago, celebrating Roleru’s promotion. Clutching the locket Adonis would fall to his knees and cry. An hour later Adonis would fall asleep, exhausted after showering. He would wake up the next morning, finding the two ration packets still uneaten on the counter.
After eating some breakfast and heading out for work, Adonis would notice something attached to the door of their hab unit.
It reads: Draft notice, You have been drafted to serve the Emperor of mankind. Report to the imperial guard training facility in 2 hours (live updated).
2 hours? Emperor of man, how conceited can one be? Oh well, it doesn't sound like I have a choice. Adonis would change his course, notifying his overseer at work before locating the Imperial guard training center. Little more than a temporary tent, it would appear there are other recruits here as well. A group of nine others were also waiting, clearly also drafted. After a bit of small talk with the other recruits, a man in olive green flak armor, a string of numbers on a plate attached on his left breast clearly some form of ID, wearing a helmet of the same color with a gold skull on the forehead. Walked out of the tent and immediately commanded the attention of all the recruits present. The man spoke in a gravelly voice, “I am Sargent Gordel, And I will make all of your lives hell over the next six weeks. You will have exactly one minute to make calls to get your affairs in order, after that you belong to the Imperial army." With that he turned and walked back into the tent, the recruits panicked at first, then followed him after a short while. That was 6 months ago, and as Adonis sat in some god forsaken trench during a particularly brutal compliance, he had wished for the thirtieth time that day that this was all some horrible nightmare. Alas it was not, he had been stationed on the frontlines, fighting against some technologically advanced humans that used bladed drones to devastating effect. Adonis was not particularly skilled at warfare, his aim was middling, his hand to hand skills less than perfect, and he had no mind for command. However, his previous work had him communicating a lot. This skill in both verbal communication, and communication equipment landed him a job as a vox-caster in his squad, lead by Sargent Gordel. Adonis disliked Gordel, a man of hubris and little talent in leadership. However, due to his role in communications Adonis had to be in close to proximity to the man during all waking hours. Ever since he had received the special vox-caster helmet he kept it on, only taking it off to eat. Adonis felt safe enclosed in his helmet, the constant line of communication meaning he could prepare for any future curveballs that might turn his life upside down, so that what happened after that horrible day will never happen again. Adonis would never be caught off guard again, or so he thought. As this compliance continued, Adonis was hearing fewer fellow vox-casters every day, until nobody responded on short-range communications one day. Alone, Adonis and his squad were all that was left in the trench line. As a forward position high casualties were to be expected, but they hadn’t been reinforced in weeks. Adonis had been given a faulty long-range vox, so he often had to make trips down the trench to the nearest squad to communicate with high command. During his last trip Adonis had heard that surrender of the planet was currently being negotiated, but in the meantime to keep fighting, that was days ago. During his trips down these lines he would often pass segments where the guardsmen had either been butchered by the drones, or fled the battlefield. He was envious of those who fled, but he would feel responsible for the deaths of his comrades if he left them to die. Today Adonis would try to retrieve a long-range vox to talk with high command. Shells were still falling on enemy positions, so they weren't abandoned. An assault on the trenches happened last night, it took 30 minutes of walking for Adonis to reach the next position, all he found there was a puddle of gore, and if he hadn’t known humans were here before, there was no way to identify what organism this pile of entrails used to be now. It sickened him, but he kept moving, not lingering on the thoughts of his past. It would take hours to find a usable long-range vox. It would take more hours to return, but in the meantime he used the vox to get updated on the situation.
“This is vox-master Adonis in the first trench, position 38. Looks like my squad might be the last one left. High-command please respond.” Adonis hailed, hoping to hear back soon.
It would take 30 minutes for a response, but it came nonetheless. “We read you Adonis, this is High-command vox-master Gunther. How the hell are you guys still alive, the last report we got from the forward trench was 4 days ago. Anyways, peace has been reached and will go into effect tomorrow at dawn, until then keep fighting and we’ll come get you.” The man responded in a shocked voice.
“Copy command, I had to scavenge a long-range vox from a dead squad, mine has been faulty since we landed here. Thanks for the update, I will let the rest know when I get back.” Adonis replied, relieved that he would soon get to leave this hellscape. In the meantime he slowly made his way back to his position.
After hours of slowly progressing through the byzantine trench system, and hearing the wet squelch of viscera beneath his boots more often than not he finally made it back to his position. To his surprise everyone was still alive. After explaining what he heard over the vox to Gordel, Gordel called the other 9 people in the trench.
“Our vox-master has explained to me that we need to hold out until morning. Then this compliance will be over. Do you think you pansies are up to the task?”, Gordel asked, clearly just trying to raise morale.
“YES SIR!”, the squad responded loudly. Hope was something that had been in short supply in the trenches for weeks. To hear there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel made them all ecstatic. However the next 12 hours would be hell.
The first three were spent by the 11 people discussing what they would do on leave, then as the sun set, the next three hours were spent nervously watching the enemy trench. As midnight approached, metallic skittering could be heard across no man’s land. The drones were being used to secure one last victory by some egotistical commander on the other side, to break one full trench line before peace had officially started. At first it was a few, not even making it to the trench as the Guardsmen gunned them down with ease, but as 6 a.m. crept closer, the assault intensified.
Eventually these drones were leaping into the trenches, the 11 people gunned them down, but more took their place, eventually people were being butchered right in front of Adonis, reminding him of his friend's fate. Adonis was sickened by the site of it but swallowed back the bile that had risen in his throat, Gordel was the last to die, ripped apart limb from limb right before Adonis, he gunned the three drones down but by the time he had Gordel was dead, Adonis may not have liked him, but to die like that, Gordel had his sympathies. As Adonis fought on he wondered when the sun would rise, how much longer would he have to fight these horrid engines, designed to kill in the cruelest way imaginable. Adonis did his duty and reported each casualty as they happened over long-range vox. The fighting never seemed to end, he had to pick up his comrades weapons multiple times as he kept running out of ammo.
After what seemed like an eternity the hues of violet and indigo that signified the sun was soon to rise appeared in the sky, and after only 30 more minutes of desperately trying to hold on to his life the drones in the trench suddenly stopped, climbed out and marched back to the other trench line. After this Adonis reported to high-command.
“This is vox-master Adonis, the fighting is over. 10 casualties, I’m all that's left.” Adonis reported grimmly. Exhaustion evident in his voice.
“This is High-command Vox-master Gunther. We hadn’t heard from you in a couple of hours so we thought you were dead. Frankly, the fact that you’re alive is a miracle.” Gunther responded incredulously.
“Is that so?” Adonis responded without any emotion, too exhausted to care.
“Well problem is we canceled evacuations to that trench. I’ll go talk to someone higher up. In the meantime sit tight.” Gunther responded.
Adonis would trudge out of the trench. Seeing a hill, not crater pocked and covered in grass with a large, flat rock on top. Adonis would make his way over to this hill, and sit atop the rock, feet pressed together as he took his vox-caster helmet off. His face covered in sweat, he can see how utterly covered in the blood of his comrades he is. Sickened by this fact and given his reprieve, he ejects what little remains in his stomach. Tears stream down his face as he questions how much longer he’ll be in this army, how many others will he see turned to paste, and why he decided to fight instead of joining his Roleru in the afterlife.
His mental breakdown is set to the backdrop of a beautiful sunset, he has calmed down by the time a gleaming purple transport pulls up to the trench line. A tall woman in purple armor steps out, white hair flowing down her shoulders, with piercing purple eyes. She scans for something before setting eyes on Adonis.
She calls out to him, “Vox-master, your transport awaits.” Adonis walks to the transport, not bothering to go back to the trench. After the imposing, yet elegant woman climbs into the transport after him, the doors close and it speeds off.
