2024.05.17 12:33 Character_League_834 how do i be more consistent and another question

almost 18yo male (severe vata) require advice related to females and how to be more consistent
I spent 2 years studying for a collage entrance exam and got distracted and depressed half the time and wasn’t able to complete it 1st major failure in my life . I now have to study another year and redo it(about 60 percent of the people who succeed have to give it another year[consoling myself ig] )
There was a girl in who I knew since I was around 5-12yo (used to sit next to her in the school bus almost everyday) then she moved to usa in 6th grade
when i was in 8th grade I realized that I actually kind of liked the girl the whole time just didn’t know it then As there was no way of contacting her I tried to forget about her
The days when I completely did she would randomly come in my dreams and remind me of her existence (dreams weren't romantic in nature just had her in them)
in 11th i finally mustered up the courage to contact her just for the sake of contacting her
we texted for a bit and then i got busy
Ghosted her for almost a month because of how busy I got
then when i asked her about holi after a month of ghosting she randomly tells me that she liked me in 4rth and figured out that she did so in 9th
Mentally I was like what the fuck you could have told me before and I was also kind of glad that the feeling was mutual
I was also kind of sad because of the geographical restraints , hope and motivated to work harder to reach USA
i wrote her a long letter in a word document and sent it against my better judgement her response was favorable and she send the me a text
which ended with "can I claim you as mine"
later she said this
Hey {my name}- I realized that I sent you a message indicating my feelings for you but after thinking more about it today I came to the conclusion that I just can't be in any form of a relationship rn, casual or not. I'm so sorry if I led you on but I respect you as a person and care about u a lot which is why I wanted to be honest, but I would love for us continue to be friends because reconnecting with you has been so fun and I enjoy our convos (as long as you don't leave me on seen for 12 hours haha). Anyway I appreciate you understanding, I just don't have the capacity for anything more than friendship rn
after more texting
we can reconsider this after May cuz I’ll be busy till then
Sorry i didn’t respond today i just realized that I started talking a lot about you And idk why
i don’t understand female nature but what i one can assume from these snippets is that
either she really likes me and actually does not have the time to persue anything(neither do i honestly) fell for someone else closer to her trying to let me down gently and not completely obliterate my heart
i know that there is no possibility as of now to be with her .And I really need to work hard for a couple of years to create it and to set up a good life for myself
but I just want to know that that the feelings are not volatile and went away permanently in a jiffy on her end. I am too scared to ask (I tried to and got this as a response )
Hey I just wanted to say that I really I really like talking to you but I think that we need to address the fact that we live in completely different places and are in different stages of our lives. I only see you platonically but I really enjoy our friendship and conversations and don’t want to leave that. I really don’t have the capacity to be in a long term relationship right now, and I don’t know what will happen in the future. I’m really only thinking about right now, and I don’t want let you down, but that conversation is not in my head. I don’t want to keep leading you on, but I do enjoy our friendship and value it.
i just needed a place to vent and get help from someone who knows females better than I do the girl just keeps randomly infiltrating my dreams I kind of like the dreams but yeah they distract me a lot
ik meditation is supposed to help with emotional detachment I have tried to do it and improve myself so that I can be worthy of her I am trying my best to become a better human in all walks of life, its just that my vata gets the better of me and de-rails me a lot I am pretty sure I suffer with you tube addiction and try to hide away from the fact that I do so .I am trying to improve but I am scared of failure what if I fail in my entrance exams don’t reach USA stay distracted the rest of my life and then die after accomplishing nothing
Idk how this can be helped I just wanted to know that she may still have even a tiny amount of feelings form me (it would make me less distracted maybe)
the best possible outcome that I can possibly imagine is that she again randomly tells me that she does still like we call each other and talk once every week
i am able to study/work towards my goals for 8hrs a day Build muscle for 1hr a day Walk for 1 hr a day Listen to music only at the end of he day everyday for the next 10 years consistently
making me competent and giving me a good carrier(in electronics computer science or 3d(i like 3d the most rendering part of it making the tools that allow this to be done virtual worlds to be created i think i could learn about it and work for it just through my inherent inclination))
as of now i am only able to follow my timetable by 50 percent
i realize that this piece of text is completely incoherent and jumbled thanks for listening to me and if you have any advice that could help me achieve the my goals do tell

2024.05.17 12:03 Royal-Key-6056 finished ep2 ~ here are my theories (or rather observations)

hihi so that was really one hell of a mind game, I thought to myself that to enjoy the story I needed to understand the basis. so I jotted it down and here are my thoughts from ep1-start of ep3
firstly the culprit has a "clear motive" what I mean by this is what is written in the epitaph are clear instructions from that we can conclude someone came to the island truly seeking something and the killings aren't arbitrary as they are all well thought of . from ep1 the motive was to eliminate all the parents excluding (eva and hideyoshi) and shannon not being planned makes it seem like they had planned to eliminate george and shannon on the 2nd twilight while keeping eva and hideyoshi alive. why? that was a common question I had on why they always had to keep a parent alive. I think theres another motive behind this since the culprit is the one solving the riddle the "ritual" must follow a certain criteria, meaning they cannot kill as they please and the only way to advance each twilight means to follow that criteria so I jotted the rules down:
-the murders must be acknowledged (sort of like how witches can only exist through belief the murders are about the same)
-all 10 twilights must be completed before midnight
-the order of the murders can take place anywhere any time and arent part of the "ritual" rather the acknowledgement of the murders are what makes the twilights
I had always suspected rosa, in this episode there was a scene from the chapel where beatrice makes everyone pledge to her so it could be something like drawing the culprit. she was abnormally familiar with both letters and I was wondering why she hadnt read it in the dining hall like she should have. well unlike ep1 where they all read it makes my theory of keeping eva and hideyoshi alive more probable because its basically announcing "you're all going to die anyways so there is no point" so ep1 was like a warm up, nothing went to plan but there wasnt a push to do so (introducing game rules to battler perhaps?)
now this is getting quite long and I really dont want to but I have to start theorizing the locked rooms on the 2nd twilight and to tie rosa into it. I dont suspect genji it would be too boring if so and I can also suspect the dead cant I? its too hard to tie rosa who had an alibi yet but I had a wild theory that george killed kanon and jessica to save shannon. it might be plausible had he taken the key from shannon.
that isnt plausible given he had an alibi but my brain is really starting to fog up and I regret not taking notes because comprehension is my biggest skill issue, thanks for reading this rant ill try to edit it some time once I have enough material to work on the locked doors (or maybe I havent been observing enough) anyways thats all im looking forward to the rest^^

2024.05.17 05:42 Caprisun-seeker I (23f) feel like I might be alone forever

Hello everyone. I'm not really sure how to start this post, so I'll just go for it.
I feel as though every relationship I've had so far has been disappointment after disappointment. I don't know if my personal standards are too high, or if it's just that this world doesn't love the way I love. For context, every relationship I've had has ended due to the other party not reciprocating. This usually happens after we've already met and have been dating for over a month. I feel like I just keep getting led on. I'm a person who also isn't really interested in bedroom intimacy until later on in a relationship, and as of late, it feels like I'm only being led on for people to get into my pants and then leave. When they either get what they want, or lately, grow too frustrated because they didn't get what they want, they leave. I like to talk, and have deep conversations, and generally just ramble about random things. If I really like the person I'm with, I'll draw them and like to write them letters or notes. I like to take candid pictures of people, as well as pictures of sunsets or the sky in general to share with them because it's beautiful.
I'm not really sure where I'm actually going with this post, but as of late, it feels like I'm the only one giving out love. It's getting harder and harder to lately because I just end up in heartbreak. I know I should be happy with myself, and for the most part, I am; however, I just feel lonely as of late. I just want to fall asleep next to someone. To hold and be held by someone that has the same ideas and love that I do. I'm not asking for a carbon-copy of myself, just some love in return. I want someone to look at me and feel the same way for once. I'm tired of not being the first, second, or even third choice. I'm tired of being alone.

2024.05.17 04:30 Quiet_Historian1841 Francis Sinclair Is NOT Kraff

Who is Francis Sinclair?:
Francis Sinclair was born in 1898/1906 to parents Tom and Mrs. Sinclair. His father died before he was born, so his mother had to take care of him. When he was younger, he lived in Hawks Eye Cabin outside of Strawberry with his mother. He moved to New York City and lived an affluent life before traveling to the Old West period in the 1920s/1930s.
Francis Sinclair is first met in a cabin outside of Strawberry and tells his story about hunting for rock carvings around the world. He says he will pay a good price for all ten of them, but doesn't say why.
After the player sends him letters pointing out the rock carving locations, Francis invites them back to his cabin, but will be mysteriously absent. In the end of the quest-line, a woman appears in the cabin with a ginger-haired baby named Francis. After the protagonist expresses their confusion about the situation, Francis' mother asks the player for their name, but after finding out that the baby is actually Francis, the astounded protagonist tells her that it's not important and leaves.
Francis Sinclair seems mysterious and talks quickly. He speaks in a strange dialect and uses slang the protagonist doesn't understand.
After finishing the Stranger quest "Geology for Beginners," his notes and drawings are revealed to the player. They suggest that he may be a time traveler. His documents show a figure who jumps between the past, present, and future. Francis was interested in rock carvings that depicted skyscrapers, a big city, an atom, and a nuclear explosion.
How Francis Sinclair is not connected to Grand Theft Auto's Epsilon Program:
Francis Sinclair has a strong accent that was popular in American culture in the 1920s and 1930s. The fact that he was an infant in 1899–1907 suggests this. Sinclair's Business Card has a picture of an hourglass with wings on it that represents time and travel. He wears a belt and trousers with belt loops, supporting the idea that he traveled through time. Before the 1900s, people only used belts to carry things instead of keeping their pants on. Also, pants with belt loops didn't exist until 1922.
Francis is similar to another time traveler, Ernest Keigel, a character who stars in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories radio program called The Time Ranger. - Both of them speak with a Transatlantic accent. - Both have a decent understanding of science. - Both are fast talkers. - Both use 1920s and 1930s slang and are thought to have lived within the time period.
This is where Rockstar Games mostlikefully got the inspiration for Francis Sinclair, a person from the 1930s time traveling through various time periods.
Francis Sinclair resembles Kraff, one of three false deities worshiped by the Epsilon Program in Grand Theft Auto V. However, the character's portrayal and background contradict every aspect of Epsilonism (red birthmark, prohibited red hair, time travel science (general relativity), contradictory years with Epsilonism's creation and their Young Earth theory, setting in an unrelated universe, etc.), making the possibility of being a reference unlikely and simply a coincidence. Nevertheless, his unique birthmark is never employed for any religious reason; rather, it is designed to serve as a plot device for a more significant revelation during his last on-screen encounter, allowing the player to easily identify him in his "second form."
The mural doesn't solve a bigger mystery. It shows different time periods, and there's no hidden message to find. Some things are not puzzles. Francis Sinclair is a geologist who is looking for rock carvings that have already been found. The history book he always has with him demonstrates that he only wants to put them together so he can find the answer faster. Geology is the study of pressure and time, but he clearly is obsessed with this puzzle he doesn't have an answer for because it has to be put together first. Francis is not doing this to help a religious group. He is doing it for himself because that's how science works in the Red Dead Redemption Universe.

2024.05.17 03:06 Longjumping_Bag4666 Review: BOY REJECTED In FRONT OF SCHOOL

I had originally planned on reviewing the video Dhar Mann Actor Quits on Set this week, but I decided to skip that one for now as it is just another ego stroke and I've already ranted about Dhar's astronomically big ego enough on here. So I've decided to review the video BOY REJECTED In FRONT OF SCHOOL. Weird title as all but one letter is capitalized, but this was a Valentine's day special from 2023. On with the review.
The video begins with our main protagonist Eric(Tanner Zahn Hagen) doodling in his dad's car. Dad asks him what he is doing, and Eric tells him he has a crush on a girl at school and he is writing a song and drawing a portrait of her in hopes of getting her to be her valentine. Dad tells Eric that when he was in school, he bought a girl a Valentine's gram, and Eric tells dad they sell them for $5. So dad gives him the 5 dollars and wishes him good luck. I'm going to call Eric Incel for the remainder of this review as it becomes clear he doesn't know how to talk to a girl.
We then go to the cafeteria, where Incel is writing his song, then sees his crush(Shannon Mano) in the distance and is blinded by her. Another student offers him a Valentine's gram for $5, Incel rejects the offer at first, but then goes ahead and buys the gram anyway. We are then introduced to our main bully(Alex Long) who goes over to Incel and asks him who the flowers are for. Incel tells him who the flowers are for, and that he is writing a song for Crush. Bully then decides to help him out, and after making an Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran joke, he tells Incel the song is trash and he needs to change it completely. Incel just agrees to let Bully help him with the song without second thought, kind of stupid if you ask me but trust me, it gets worse. Bully then talks to his friends and it turns out, surprise surprise, he is purposely giving Incel bad advice so he can get with Crush.
We then cut to class, where Bully and Incel are next to each other for some reason, and Bully nearly rats him out after catching him drawing a picture of Crush. Bully harshly criticizes the picture Incel is drawing saying it looks nothing like her, mind you, they are talking out loud with Crush sitting right in front of them and she hears nothing. The teacher keeps yelling at them for talking, which is honestly pretty accurate, some teachers are real Karens about talking in class. Incel lets Bully fix the drawing as well as the song and is genuinely excited in hopes Crush will be his Valentine. Incel's been acting naive up to this point, but it's somewhat understandable even though I feel like he should know Bully's reputation, but the next scene is where this video turns from a mundane Dhar Mann video into a "so bad it's good"-esque video.
Incel is ready to ask Crush to be his Valentine waiting for his new song and drawing. Red flag #1, Bully and his friends tell Incel he has to ask her out in front of everyone if he wants her to know how he feels. All it took to convince Incel to do it was "some other guy will ask her out". Red flag #2, Bully gives Incel the song and all the lyrics are mocking her. Bully then says girls love when guys are mean to them. This kind of reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Chris is dating the receptionist at the Vet and Peter tells him to be a dick to her, except there we know Chris is an idiot. After some hesitiation, Bully announces that Incel has a special message for Crush and Eric starts singing the song insulting her. I don't know why exactly, but I can't help but find this scene hilarious. I almost feel secondhand embarrassment for this kid, but he was being such a fucking idiot for thinking insulting a girl will get her to like him that I honestly can't help but laugh at him. Crush starts crying and Incel shows her the drawing without even fucking looking at it first. Turns out, the drawing of her was Incel's drawing, but with Devil horns, a long pointy nose, and ugly teeth. Incel sees the drawing and frantically says he didn't draw it before Crush rejects him harshly. Again, I don't feel bad because he was acting so insanely naive. Bully then tells Incel he's going to have a hard time showing his face in school again, and asks Crush to be his Valentine instead, before Incel storms off realizing Bully was just using him to get with Crush.
We then cut to Incel getting picked up from school by his dad all upset. He tells dad everything that happened and how Bully pretended to be his friend but was just using him, and now Crush hates him(Incel). Crush is then knocking on the car door for some fucking reason. Incel is terrified of her, but dad convinces him to talk to her and explain himself. Crush is curious why Incel would insult her in front of the whole school, and Incel tells her that wasn't his plan and shows her the song he wrote and that Bully changed all the lyrics on him. He then shows her the drawing and says he should've just given her a Valentine's gram, but Crush didn't want a gram since they're unoriginal. Crush then says she rejected Bully's gram because of its unoriginality and the fact that Bully makes her cringe. Incel then plays her the real song. Surprise, she loves it and agrees to be his Valentine. They agree to a date Friday and Incel mentions he has to be home by 8pm, which is his curfew. Okay, these kids are probably Juniors or Seniors in high school, who the fuck has an 8pm curfew on Friday nights at that age? Seems like we have another overly strict Dhar Mann parent even though he isn't portrayed as such. Bully and friends go outside and his friends make fun of him after they see Incel talking to his girl. Bully is pissed off and kicks a random kickball that is out in the open for some reason. The ball his the school principal(Sean Harris) and the principal yells at him while him and his friends run away, then the video ends.
Conclusion
This one's honestly kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. Incel is so fucking stupid for thinking insulting his crush in front of everyone is going to make her like him, and I thought him singing the song was kind of funny, but not in the way Dhar intended. Objectively though, it's not outright awful, but pretty cliche and predictable like a lot of other Dhar Mann videos. 5/10
Tropes found: Exaggerated bullies, typecasting, parking lot confrontation(kind of), 30 year old teenager, just be yourself moral(VERY common in Dhar Mann).

2024.05.17 02:30 Quanzi30 25 Days away = 25 tips for an Awesome Bonnaroo.

Hello friends!
As the title states, for those of us arriving to the farm on Tuesday we have exactly 25 days to bring it all together. What better way to celebrate 25 days away from being back home than with 25 tips for a great Roo. 2 years ago I did a daily series with 100 tips. Last year I did a daily series with 50 tips. This year it's cut and dry, one take, one day, top 25 tips from a Roo and festival vet. Let's do it.
  1. Water- Drink it. A lot of it. All of it. Let it run down your chin you little water slut. Staying hydrated is the #1 way to have a great Roo and consequently the easiest way to end up in the med tent if you don't. There's water stations in the campgrounds and in Centeroo, use em. It's hot. Bring a hydropack, water bottle, or whatever kind of water container you prefer.
  2. Beat the Heat- Or at least try. Bring a canopy for camp and some tapestries to hang around. Battery powered fans. Misting fans. Cooling towels. Clacking hand fans. An umbrella. An umbrella hat. Hang out under the trees, tents, signs, or any other thing that will provide some relief from the heat. Bring and USE sunscreen. It truly can't be expressed enough how hot Roo can be and trust me when I say getting a sunburn on Thursday or Friday can make Saturday and Sunday rough.
*PRO TIP- Bring a bucket or collapsible bin of some kind to put some cold cooler water in it for a foot bath. Your feet and your entire being will thank you.
  1. Meet Your Neighbors- One of the things that makes Bonnaroo great is the sense of community that comes along with it. Whether it's passing each other on the way in and out of camp, the lazy morning hangs, catching some shows, the pregame beers, keeping an eye out for each other's camp, or sharing that one thing you forgot to bring; Befriending your neighbors can and will take your Roo experience to the next level.
  2. Lights- All of the lights. Like Kanye said; flashlights, battery powered string lights, solar lights, lanterns, LEDs, nightlights, or something like that. We're camping in the middle of bumfuck nowhere middle Tennessee. Yes, they do provide some lighting in the campground but it's still dark. Keep a small flashlight in your bag, you'll need it.
  3. Comfy Shoes- Comfy BROKEN IN shoes. Whatever is your comfiest footwear, use that. Imo at least, Bonnaroo is much less of a fashion show and is much more about being comfortable in the elements while adding in the 30-40-50 miles of walking, dancing, skipping, and frolicking you will do. Getting some insoles will also help your feet make it through.
  4. Begin Physically Preparing Thyself- If you haven't already. Nobody needs to be in peak physical condition by any means, but doing some cardio, walking, a bike ride, etc. and getting out in the heat beforehand will go a long way when it comes to the marathon gauntlet that is Bonnaroo. Get a little uncomfortable before we get really uncomfortable in a few weeks.
  5. First Aid kit, Butt wipes, Chafe cream, Baby Powder- A few of the most important personal things that will do wonders for that swamp ass and Roo Rash. Skip TP all together and just bring butt wipes, your butt and chafed thighs will thank you. They will also thank you when you apply that chafe cream and your legs are slip slidin' and glidin' all night long.
  6. Make Campsite Noticeable- Lights, balloons, pinwheels, signs, wackly inflatable tube men, a blimp. Do something to make your campsite stand out a little bit when things get a bit weird and can't find your way back home.
  7. Catch a Sunrise- Specifically a Pretty Lights one Saturday night into Sunday morning, but any sunrise is meaningful on the farm. One of the things that make Bonnaroo unique from other festivals is the fact that music of some kind is going until sunrise. This is no easy task, even for professionals, but the payoff at the end is worth every second of tiredness to get you there.
10.High Five Everyone- This one's big. High Fives have been a staple at Bonnaroo since 1842 when Colonel Mustard high fived Trey Anastacio's great great Uncle and the rest was history. High five everyone. Everyday. Anywhere. Anytime. There may or may not be a winding high five line in front of the arch this year, but that's no excuse to not throw a hand up and watch the magic happen. Not getting enough fives? It means you aren't giving enough. Dish em out like pizzas and hot cakes.
  1. Prepare for All Types of Weather- Hot, cold, windy, rainy, snowy. Plan for it all regardless of what the forecast says. Tennessee is like Florida where the forecast has changed 14 times since I started writing this. Bring your swim trunks but also a hoodie and beanie. Bring a poncho if you're going to melt. Don't forget to stake down the tents and canopies. Prepare for it all.
  2. Check out the Plazas- Plazas, which used to be "pods", are themed areas throughout the campgrounds that offer entertainment and programming of all different kinds. Each plaza contains bathrooms, wifi, staff, charging stations, and information that can be beneficial.
  3. Bring Something To Sleep On- Air mattress, cot, inflatable couch, in the car; whatever it is make sure it's something somewhat comfortable to catch some precious Z's on. We only get a few hours of sleep while on the farm, make sure it's the most comfortable you can possibly get for maximum efficiency.
  4. Patience is a Virtue- Whether it's in the car line, beer line, bathroom line, or any place that requires waiting; just be patient. Go with the flow. People are working their hardest to get you through whatever line it is, just enjoy the ride. Getting upset, frustrated, etc. doesn't do anybody any good when we're all trying to get to the same place. Just have some patience and trust me it will go a long way.
  5. Bring Things to Trade & Give Away- This concept is not unique to Bonnaroo but some festivals in general; bring things to give away. Think small, inexpensive, yet meaningful in the right situations. Squishy animals, pogs, green army men, pokemon cards, hat clips, clothespins, marbles; the possibilities here are pretty endless. Having things to give away will just up your Roo experience that much more.
  6. Keep Valuables locked in the Car- Even though Bonnaroo is by in large a safe place, any public event that draws 60K+ people also brings the bad apples. Anything over 20$ we lock in the car and out of sight and hide our keys at camp. Also please do not bring ANYTHING of substantial value in which you will be upset if it goes missing, broken, or lost. Don't bring grandmother's precious jewels with you. If it has value, lock it in your car.
  7. Bring Cash- Yes Bonnaroo like most events is moving toward a cashless event, however having cash on you will alleviate some of the issues that go along with so called cashless. There will be things wandering through camp which only require cash, some vendors take cash, and having that peace of mind will frankly go a long way when a card simply won't do.
  8. Pace Yourself- Bonnaroo is a marathon, not a sprint. Although I whole heartedly endorse full send Thursday, pacing yourself throughout the weekend will leave you some energy left for Fred Again Sunday night. Stay hydrated, take naps, and don't feel bad when you have to take a load off to catch your breath.
  9. Live In the Moment- Be. Here. Now. Take it all in. Stay off your phone. Embrace the journey. Embrace the moment. Live it. Be it. Accept it. Enjoy it. Don't over plan and don't force it. Let it be. Bonnaroo only comes around once a year and it's in our best interest to make every second count. Keep your head up, eyes open, and enjoy every moment the farm gives us.
  10. Foster the Bonnarovian Code.
a. Prepare Thyself
b. Play as a Team
c. Radiate Positivity
d. Respect the Farm
e. Don't be that Person
f. Stay True Roo
Embrace these basic yet powerful principles and you are on the right track to having a wonderful Bonnaroo experience. Not only do these principles apply to the farm, but they also translate well to our everyday lives.
  1. Cooler Maintenance- Tried and true ways to keep your coolers cold as long as possible without spending a fortune on ice. FROZEN WATER BOTTLES. Probably the most beneficial festival hack there is. Layer the bottom of your coolers with frozen bottles and shove ice packs in there as well. Dry ice when used correctly will keep coolers cold for days. Keep coolers out of the sun and closed as much as possible during the day. Before packing coolers, bring them inside and throw some ice in them to cool them down. May the cold be with you, always.
  2. Wear Whatever the Fuck you Want- Sorry for cussing. But seriously. Wear whatever feels right. Wear a costume. Wear something wild. Wear something basic af. Wear a wig. Wear that dumbass thing in the back of your closet that hasn't seen the light of day since 2004, let it out. Whatever you wear just make sure it's comfortable. And if you wear something that isn't comfortable, just know we appreciate you and the sacrifices you're making for the greater good.
  3. Get Merch Early- The good stuff goes quick. The popular sizes go quick. Don't sleep on it. If there's something you see you want just get it and be done with it so there are no regrets later, not even one letter.
  4. Camp Chairs, inflatable couches, Stools, Pussy Couches, Blankets- Basically just bring things to sit or relax on. Camp chairs, couches, inflatable unicorns, and stools for camp and a blanket for inside Centeroo. Blow up couches aren't technically allowed in the venue but neither are substances and glowsticks and there are certainly neither of those at Bonnaroo.
  5. Battery stations, Power Banks, Solar Chargers- Bring whatever you need to keep your electronics charged without having to use the courtesy outlets. Charging things in the car is a move as well as a DC inverter which plugs into your car cigarette lighter. We only get a short amount of time on the farm, don't spend it teathered to an outlet. Bring the power.
Honorable Mention Tips
  1. Check Camping supplies ahead of time.
  2. Don't forget your ID, wristband, and parking pass. (This one is pretty important and should probably be higher up)
That's all I got for the time being. Anything I missed please feel free to add below. For all the first timers joining us this year I would just like to say welcome to the farm. Embrace and enjoy every second you are there. To all the vets coming back, can't wait to see you fuckers again real soon. We're almost there. Happy Bonnaroo Yall!

2024.05.17 01:14 SanderSo47 Part 2

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.

The Verdict

Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.17 00:16 notmyppornaccount Non-mains sewerage charges - Do I have to pay?

Hey all. So we live in a semi rural setting and don’t have mains sewerage, instead the village has a sewage treatment plant which the house is connected to but the title deed has no mention of it. When we moved in no one was able to pass us on the information for how to pay and no one from the council was interested in sorting it so we just let it slide. I made an effort after about 6 months and called the council, they came and put some dye down the loo and traced it to the local sewer treatment plant, I expected to hear from them shortly but nothing received until about 4 months later I get a letter telling me that I can appoint a solicitor to draw up an agreement to use their sewage treatment facilities and then they’ll bill me… no thanks I thought to myself and just filed it away (I’m 90% sure I still have the letter but I can’t currently find it).
Roll forward 5 years and I get a letter through the door telling me to start paying almost £50 a month for the sewerage! Given that it isn’t mentioned anywhere on the title deed etc. do I actually have to start paying them?? Are there any holes I can make them jump through, I feel like an out of blue demand given that they previously said I would need to instruct a lawyer doesn’t seem right.
Bit of a niche situation but any advice appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.16 23:51 mr_boizoff Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED Earphones Review

Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED Earphones Review
A job change and all sorts of other adventures made me take some time off from the reviews. But, as the saying is, "Don't count on it!" — there will be a lot of them in the short run, and they will be interesting, well balanced and spot on!
In short, let's talk today about the in-ear wired earphones Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED (or just RED later on), which I purchased for about $55 you know where.
https://preview.redd.it/9ywolwakyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57da9791a73200cc6d3c99ce8a3c061657ae7bb8
By the way, my old camera broke down, so I bought a new one, that's why the pictures will be even more unbelievably brilliant now. Come on and get a look, all the pictures are clickable, as always.

Truthear in a nutshell

Truthear, a Chinese company, has just turned 2 years old, but they have already released 5 models of earphones and one portable DAC. The company was allegedly founded by one or more Moondrop people. With all the trimmings of modern Chinese fashion, Truthear has a mascot, which is an anime girl named Shiroi, weighing 45 kg, 170 cm tall and... I have no idea why I say all this.
Their partner in the field of 3D printing technology is HeyGears, whose equipment or capacities, I believe, Truthear uses to produce its devices (at least, earphones).

What's included

The proud owner of this top-quality cardboard box will find in it as follows:
https://preview.redd.it/ea3yvoxpyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd5ea91ac6fdb1ec11c76dd3f8c77c81b7b7b7e9
1. the earphones themselves;
2. a cable with a 3.5 TRS connector;
3. an adapter with an additional load of 10 Ohms (I'll tell you why we need it later);
4. a set of 7 pairs of eartips;
5. a fair-to-middling cover made of faux leather;
6. a pile of papers with the image of Shiroi.
The box, I will repeat myself, is perfectly made, I've never seen anything like this. I'm totally cool with the set, it's a good one.

Technological features, build quality

RED use a less common structure 'a larger dynamic driver + a second smaller dynamic driver'. The first one is responsible for the subbass and bass up to 200 Hz and has a diameter of 10 mm, and the second one plays the rest of the range and has a diameter of 7.5 mm.
The manufacturer talks about the 'CCAW voice coil', that is, about the fact that the driver coil is made of copper-plated aluminum wire. Usually, when it applies to headphones, this is made to reduce the weight of the driver's mobile system. This technology is not new: for example, it is also used in Moondrop Aria Snow.
Besides, 'DLP', or 'Digital light processing', 3D printing technology is mentioned. This is a three-dimensional printing process, characterized by high accuracy and the ability to correctly reproduce extremely small details.
And the last but not the least, the earphones are optimized for use at high volume (over 94 dB) and configured in accordance with the 'IEF Neutral 2023' curve by Corin Ako (better known as Crinacle), but with some adjustments in the bass and subbass sections, giving the sound of RED more weight and physicality.
So, RED are earphones printed on an industrial 3D printer, based on a 2-driver scheme. And Crinacle, a well-known reviewer and owner of the largest IEM measurement database, is responsible for tuning RED.
The earphones have a simple but distinctive design. The enclosures are completely glossy and slightly transparent on the inside. On the outside, there are mildly glaring red inserts under a coat of varnish.
https://preview.redd.it/5og1uxwsyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0403d22e9fcb489cf8da789149869145fcf8349
You can discern bass speakers inside at a definite angle.
https://preview.redd.it/9v2r688uyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=846183aa032e50b66ae4344c5af8fe6109e1cc26
The grids of the sound ducts are neat, inserted smoothly.
https://preview.redd.it/6b569ycvyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a2a9a4c28e277808efd6e80c2b767457ee7e640
There is one compensation hole per each earphone, located in close proximity to a 2-pin connector. L and R are marked in bright golden letters. Small edgings for fixing the eartips were made, too.
Overall, they are quite good and even stylish. The only issue is microscratching that affects the enclosure right off the bat. But it's not really perceptible to the eye.
On top of that, the earphones act as a magnet to fingerprints.
The cable is just decent. It doesn't get too tangled, and the earholders are made at the right angle. The metal splitter is solid black, with the company logo printed on it.
https://preview.redd.it/c7331knwyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d66836329928887b3fc396b7bb6596bf486eae20
The very same cable comes with Truthear HEXA and Zero earphones.
The case is made decently, too, but it does not have any internal compartments or partitions. I already wrote about how an adequate case should be designed 5 years ago – no one has released anything alike yet.
https://preview.redd.it/3rbvma2zyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc21b72be8af06e6cd816a5903135b0e1255c46a

Ergonomics

The geometry of the RED enclosures turned out to be perfectly compatible with my ears. They don’t have any strange concavities, bulges, or sharp edges, the sound ducts are positioned at a natural angle, the dimensions of the enclosures are... ordinary, only a little thick. Just put them in and listen to music. And they don't have much weight at all.
I'll assume that the sound ducts may turn out to be uncomfortably large for owners of small ears, because, let's be honest, these are not sound ducts, they are simply muzzles. Probably, when you get a first taste of these earphones, you will want to change your favorite eartips for the same, but smaller ones.
The flipside is the noise insulation — RED's one is above average because the earphones fit in tightly.
As for the 10-Ohm adapter, it is not convenient to use it on the go: a few centimeters long, thin rigid structure will stick out of the player audio output, which can easily damage the connector if stressed accidentally.

Quick specifications overview

  • Design: in-ear closed-back.
  • Drivers: 2 dynamic drivers.
  • Impedance: 18 Ohms.
  • Sensitivity: 117 dB.
  • Connectors: classic 2-pin, 0.78 mm.
  • Weight: 6 g (each earphone).

Subjective sound impression

RED sound great: balanced and new at the same time. Imagine that a 'top-up' of a very weighty and fast subbass was added to neutral sound delivery, which never overlaps the bass for a moment, not a iota, let alone the mid-frequency range. What's more, a lot of well-articulated high frequencies were poured in (we're talking about the 3-10 kHz range), but not those that get sandy, filled with sibilants that grate on the ear. They are just heard very well. This is, you know, sort of 'a joy of a HF-phobe who still wants a lot of HF'. With this in mind, the middle range is perceived to the utmost, there are no dips and curbs there, and it is just excellent.
The result is a 'smooth', but vibrant and simultaneously informative sound delivery with a stable low-frequency basis, perceived as 'dynamic' and 'detailed'. It is ten kinds of cool, simply brilliant tuning that retains its uniqueness and accuracy far beyond the price category of these earphones.
Against the background of the high frequencies delivered in this fashion, RED have a clear and wide virtual sound stage with a clear localization of instruments. It could be better, but in a very, very different price bracket.
Why the RED sound might not work for someone:
  • The sound is not 'thick'. And that's exactly how a normal bass, separated from the subbass, not affecting the midrange, sounds like.
  • "I hear something that's out of place". When mixing, the authors decided to make the recording 'brighter' or simply did not handle the sound very carefully, having thought that no one would hear the nuances. If this was the case, RED will let you hear weird synthetic glide sounds, abrupt high-frequency sounds etc. To cut it short, you will hear a lot of blatant defects in the music poorly recorded and mixed, as well as a lot of new and amazing things in the well-recorded and -mixed one.
  • There's not enough subbass. And here comes the 10-Ohm adapter included. Upon its connection, the bass and subbass are raised by 3 dB (see the next section). Even if everything is fine with your subbass perception, when using RED in an urban environment, the low-frequency range being masked with external sound sources may require the usage of this adapter.
  • The ultra-high frequency range (from 10 kHz and above) could be more delicate. Actually not, it couldn't because the earphones cost $55 and not $550.
  • To sum up, in terms of frequency balance, the RED sound is truly unique and one of a kind. For me, RED have become the first in-ear headphones in a month of Sundays that made me freeze on the spot when listening to music that I've been familiar with for a lifetime.

Measurements

The earphones were connected to the RME ADI-2 DAC (IEM output). A measuring rig conforms to the IEC60318-4 standard. The provided eartips were used for measurements. The smoothing is indicated on the graphs. For the info about rigs, graphs and headphones measurements, refer to my article.

Keep your eye out for the dashed green line – this is the target curve conventionally named Crinacle Neutral Target 2023. This target curve was proposed by Ako in April 2023 as an alternative to the Harman curve, which is appreciated by far from everyone. The diffuse field curve measured at the Type 5128 rig manufactured by Brüel & Kjær was used as a basis, which was then transferred to the IEC711 rig and 'tilted' clockwise. Why it was done and why this way – I will try to answer these questions in detail in another article on the theoretical part of measurements, but I won't go deep at the moment.
What matters is that this is not just a tuning. This is a very specific tuning that has been contemplated on for quite a while.
To put this in perspective and see something more common, here is the frequency response of RED and the most current Harman curve:
https://preview.redd.it/hi0j1bkuzu0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fd9854f18d81798fc43e769f6eca16027dbb144
And the situation here is very interesting:
  • up to 200 Hz, the RED frequency response corresponds to the Harman curve in shape;
  • 200 Hz are 'sunk', and this is what gives a feeling of elastic, full-fledged subbass;
  • at low frequencies and in the middle, there is a smooth addition of up to 2 dB at maximum;
  • the midrange rise is shifted from 2.7 kHz slightly to the right;
  • peaks after 13 kHz are most likely aberrations of the rig, I personally do not hear them.
Does such sound tuning have a right to life? My ears tell me that yes, more than that.
As a reminder, there is a 10-Ohm attenuator included.

When it is connected, the left part of the frequency response graph rises predictably, and the sound becomes more 'common':
https://preview.redd.it/n5egvhryzu0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b3d26d901780a7eca911071bd68f838b2ce6b88
The left/right volume balance is not ideal, but acceptable:
https://preview.redd.it/iwsc9mh00v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7fb32e88c180e2183a53c7747464d5ab8382ef5
Nonlinear distortions (these are measurements that should not be 100% trusted because my equipment is far from perfect):
https://preview.redd.it/m8ozge320v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b47fde9e64b1857e633b8adebc82a2f182f5da6

Sound source choice

For my listening tests, I've connected the earphones to the following devices.
  • PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs (IEM output) – unbalanced connection
  • PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs ('High Power' mode) – unbalanced connection
  • Hiby R6 gen 3 ( Gain – High, Amplifier Operation – Class AB/A)
The sources were switched by a mechanical input switch.
With Hiby R6, the earphones' sound is a little more bassy and solid. I didn't hear any other difference in the sound of RED when using various sources.

Eartip choice

I didn't like the eartips provided.
https://preview.redd.it/ibe7nc860v0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbd68bf567e714ad6809423295c8e0b049af3048
Three left pairs have a clearly smaller diameter compared to one of the sound duct and are just difficult to pull on. The right pairs fit the sound ducts easier, but just like the left ones, they're not really soundproof.
As for foam eartips, I just don't like them.
In short, I tested RED with TRI Clarion, and the same I recommend to you. The fit is comfortable, deep and tight enough.

Comparisons

PLEASE NOTE: everything I say below is only applicable to the earphones from the point of view of comparison to other models, nothing more!

RED vs. Truthear HEXA

The Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED and Truthear HEXA frequency response graphs compared:
https://preview.redd.it/690dctkb0v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=901456e8b5ae27dfe60ab024099b82a41dd4f49a
Subjective difference in sounding
  • RED are much bassier as compared to HEXA.
  • HEXA have a more pronounced middle range and less accentuated upper frequencies.
  • However, the upper frequency range of HEXA is less even, so the peak of nearly 7.5 kHz is perceived more clearly with HEXA.
Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called 'V-shaped', with their sound delivery more versatile, whereas HEXA are more 'reserved' and 'neutral'.

RED vs. Moondrop May

I'd like to note that comparing RED earphones and, in fact, DAP+earphones, which is what May is, is incorrect. Therefore, below we will talk only about the sound. May were connected via their standard DSP cable, and the equalizer was set to 'Standard'.
The Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED and Moondrop May frequency response graphs compared:
https://preview.redd.it/up1nlade0v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10b015a8032de6440aefc8033fde02c579d72268
Subjective difference in sounding
  • May highlight the range of about 6 kHz in a stronger manner, their sound is more sonorous and sharp.
  • The voices in May's interpretation sound noticeably closer.
  • May give the sound a little more 'physicality' and 'dirt'.
Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called more 'neutral' and even 'intelligent', whereas I would characterize May's sound delivery as 'rougher', less 'balanced', more 'subjective'.

Summary

The Chinese economic ramp-up, the development of manufacturing technologies for drivers and enclosures, as well as the development of knowledge about sound in in-ear headphones let us buy a product for $55 in 2024, for which sound they would have charged us good $550 without batting an eyelid and turning a hair 10 years ago, although it seems questionable to me that someone would have been up to such tuning at that time.
And I'm quite agreeable to give credit to Crinacle: while I honestly wrote in the KZ Zex Pro review that the earphones were frankly poorly tuned (whether through Crinacle's fault or not, I have no idea), RED is a completely different story. This is just an example of how to proceed from competence in the field of headphone measurements to successful headphone production.
I am not inclined to believe, of course, that this was a sole effort of Crinacle — everyone sang in harmony, both him and Truthear as the immediate manufacturer.
In general, everything is both clear and complicated about RED at the same time: these are earphones with a universal fit and eminently calibrated tuning, combining neutrality, detail, weight, dynamics and lack of listening fatigue in equal measure. Top it off, there is a 10-Ohm attenuator included for those who 'starve for the lower section'.
To buy or not to buy: to buy, at least just for the fun of learning what kind of tuning is this!

2024.05.16 23:12 circuitislife AFK Journey Cost Analysis of Units + Essences

AFK Journey Cost Analysis of Units + Essences
I thought it would be interesting to analyze how much things actually cost in this game. The devs use "dragon crystals" to make it difficult for us to really see how much things cost us. So instead of relying on "1200%" or "800%" values advertisement.... hopefully this short guide can help you appreciate how much things are, and whether something is a good deal or not (some may argue that nothing here is a good deal.. but you get my point). I did some calculations to see if what I am buying is making sense, and whether these 2-hour fomo packs were worth buying. I'll use these numbers to analyze a deal the next time I see one.
We have to start somewhere, and the most obvious place to start for me was the biweekly shop as it had items and its individual price in dragon crystal. In this guide, we'll assume 3000 dragon crystals = $100 USD going forward.
Biweekly Bundle
We can take a look at "Hero Recruitment Bundle I & II" to find the price of normal and epic letters. Rate up Recruit Bundle III was used to determine the price of "rate-up" letter, and then Rate-Up Recruit Bundle I and II were then used to calculate the price of Soulstones.
Unit Price based on the Biweekly Bundle
With Soulstone prices, we can determine how much is an S-tier and an A-tier hero.
Price of S & A-tier heroes based on the price of the Soulstones
Now, we find the probability of getting an S-tier hero for each type of summons:You can find out what the expected number of pulls needed for pulling an S-tier hero given a pity of n (google binomial distribution with pity timer).
https://preview.redd.it/50277c71tu0d1.png?width=1602&format=png&auto=webp&s=c388b3a01624f50d7d1223552a7e3ac2ce1ddcdf
Use the pity-adjusted probability to find the "value" of each letter:Stargazer heroes can't be bought elsewhere with money (yet) and we're forced to just draw the units (there's no soulstone for these heroes to base their values of).
https://preview.redd.it/op5idw42tu0d1.png?width=1805&format=png&auto=webp&s=bead650506598216b3e839470a19a1ad4db3238c
Based on the price of Stellar Crystal, each hypo/cele hero is worth $37.45.
https://preview.redd.it/k4icdkanqu0d1.png?width=591&format=png&auto=webp&s=ead36d28e3db3aa13c533012eedbc71229305a0f
Summary & Conclusion:
  1. The best "value" is actually with normal letter when you consider both S-tier and A-tier heroes. The worst "value" is epic letter as they are the most expensive. Rate-up is the second best.
  2. It's not worth putting A-tier heroes in place of S-tier heroes when you are doing "epic" summons. However, it'll take you far longer to max out an A-tier hero compared to a S-tier hero if you only rely on epic / rate-up summons. Fortunately, you can buy A-tier heroes from dream realm shop.
  3. The monthly 45 Scamgazer Crystal for 3000 dragon crystals is a scam (worth $74.7 but costs $100).
  4. You can use this table and analyze the value of the "2-hour limited time" bundles for yourself.
  5. Red essences aren't available to purchase in weekly/biweekly shop and therefore, I couldn't really price them accurately.
  6. Each supreme+ unit is about $120.88 for S-tier, $138.88 for A-tier, and $524 for hypo/celestial.
If you were to rely on letters to obtain them, an S-tier hero will take roughly 33 rate-up summon, 48 normal summon, or 19 epic summons
Hopefully this helps. Cheers.

2024.05.16 22:53 Artistic_Art_Artist How would I go about making a 2D imaged a flat 3D cutout model???

I mod video games frequently, I am similar on how to import models, modify models and such for various purposes. But I am still really new to making new models form scratch. But I tried looking everywhere for several hours last night, but couldn't find anything in the end. The closest I got was a different modeling site I had to pay for (and it was rather expensive) and nothing else. ):
I am trying to take a regular 2d Image, and make it 3D. Basically just stretching it out on the side, like a cardboard cutout kinda. I managed to try and convert the image into a "Trace Image to Grease Pencil" then "Converting To" a "Bézier Curve" But this leaves it with an outline on the inside of the object. So to fix this I tried removing all detail and such inside of the image, by making the image just one plain color (like black or white) and then inverting it, so in the image all you could see was the plain outline. And THAT WORKED, YET NOW, I am dealing with just a plain simple outline of the object
What it currently looks like after my attempts at fixing my problems
What I want but in 3d
I am trying to make it look closer to a flat cutout, like a cardboard model for video games. I could manually connect each and every Vertice to make faces between them all manually. But that just takes a long time and is a LOT of work. There has to be an easier way, right?
These images were made by AI as a quick one for testing, since I didn't feel like spending 3 hours on drawing my own just to potentially get rid of it in 2 minutes if my test didn't work, or that image wasn't specifically made, etc.

2024.05.16 22:40 AltF4_Bye NORAD LEAK.. the interesting parts

Since the original account/post got nuked, I’ve compiled some of the more standout statements in the original post. What are y’all’s thoughts on this??
waits for disinformation bots/agents to tear this apart
”The craft use a system that originally befuddled generations of researchers, but it's essentially a 3D dijkstra algorithm. It finds points around the craft, and chooses the most efficient possible route through space time to get to that point. Some of the parameters it uses to gauge efficiency are totally unknown to us and are a serious point of contention. It's not autonomy, but rather obstacle avoidance not unlike what you would see in a self-driving car. But, the self driving car could go through air, space and water without worrying about what medium its in. Additionally, the algo accounts for the crafts place in time. I don't think this means that the craft time travel in the way we think they can, but rather go so fast that they experience dilation and can hit objects in the future, and, potentially, past at their target destination.
Although the algo is extremely effective, Nuclear explosions and experiments somehow interfere with this navigation. Craft particularly avoid Diablo Canyon, even if we put something they really want there. They mostly avoid previous crash sites as well.
The wing I called "Anthropology" is the weirdest one by far. It focuses on a few different things. They originally studied NHIs intentions and "culture" if it's possible to call it that. The reports I read from this early research changed the way I see the world. Anthropology and Computer Science were at one point decompartmentalized to study how the NHI interact with the craft. The NHI are linked to their craft in a way that borders on biological.
This team discovered, a long time ago, that the reason why craft appear so bright to us humans is because it's not really "light" but rather the product of the crazy amounts of power these craft require. Sort of like smoke coming out of an exhaust pipe.
All I would say on a record is NHI know we can track them, and know how to avoid us. They usually avoid detection by going underwater, especially in the case of particularly large (by human measurement, enormous) craft.
The shape was directly informed by its purpose. Every shape is custom molded in a metallic material that would revolutionize the way we travel if we had it.
Crash Recovery probably has the most people involved. It's split up among several parent orgs, but funding is funnelled away from it and into other departments when there's little activity. This is common among the entire agency, as funding and staff get balanced between the different wings based on progress or lack thereof. Most of the crash recovery staff are staff from tracking and security that are involved in Crash Recovery. It's also made up of members of all of our favorite three letter organizations.
This team also actively engages in disinformation, gaslighting and other similar campaigns. Their goal is to keep the US's secrets about this tech, secret, because other countries are close to breakthroughs.
NHI potentially experiment on us, and definitely experiment on animals. We have no idea why.”

2024.05.16 22:20 justat547 I'm turning 21 next month but I'm terrified

I'm turning 21 next month which means I'll be legally allowed to buy a firearm and I'm terrified that I won't be able to stop myself from getting one
I've been trying to figure out any sort of way to get out of the situation I'm in but every option leads to more pain so I feel like I'm trapped like life refuses to give me any hope of getting better
For context I've been struggling with depression ever since I could remember I had parents that physically and sexually abused me and I was raised in the Jehovah's witnesses cult which means I was socially isolated from the world for a long time. It wasn't until I was 18 when I hung out with my friend for the first time. I also struggle with abandonment issues and all of the friends I've made in my life have abandoned me mostly because I wasn't able to hang out with them or I would be too attached to them because I would text them every day and that's too much for them to handle, currently I only have one friend left and I feel like a burden to them because of how much I want to hang out with them and I can feel the tension between our friendship getting worse.
If I talk about how I feel to them I'll end up trauma dumping and they don't want to deal with that or I try to restrict myself from being too close to them but then my depression gets worse, I've tried to get into drawing and 3d modeling but my ADHD makes it very difficult to learn things and I get frustrated easily
I have no idea what to do at this point every option has some sort of road block preventing me from getting better and now in terrified of myself that I'll end my life once I become 21
Although I don't always get much replies reddit is the only place I can vent about how I feel without feeling like something catastrophic might happen

2024.05.16 21:52 OrwellianWiress Valley of the Sentries

You know what the best part is about playing Engineer in Team Fortress 2? You get to watch how angry everyone gets when they get shot by your sentry guns. Me and my best friend Jose both main Engineer, and can confirm that the best way to spend your Friday nights after school is to set up a sentry and get ready for the rage. There’s been matches where we haven’t even used our actual guns even once, but racked up lots of kills just because of the sentries.
One day Jose called me up with an idea that was either going to be the stupidest thing ever or the smartest thing ever. He wanted to fill an entire team with only Engineers and watch the chaos unfold. I couldn’t stop laughing at the mental image in my head and agreed with the plan. I joined a Discord server with everyone else on the team.
I convinced my cousin Matthew to join, and he in turn brought along his little brother Zack. According to Matthew, it took quite a bit of convincing because Zack was a Scout main who couldn’t stand Engineers. He eventually got through to his little brother by promising him a Steam gift card. I even got their dad Graham to play along (yes, I have an uncle who plays TF2. How cool is that?). Jose enlisted his friends, who turned into friends of friends and soon enough we had a team of 16 Engineers.
To say that we caused chaos that night was an absolute understatement. As soon as we joined the game the text chat was flooded with messages from the other team wondering what the hell was going on. And they only got worse from that point on. We surrounded our control points with a ring of sentries that people just kept running into. I saw keyboard smashes and heard other teen boys’ voices crack in rage and many, many words that I personally don’t care to repeat here.
The most skilled Engineer was this guy named Craig, who was a friend of one of Jose’s friends. Not only was he the main person capturing the enemy control points with some very strategically placed teleporters, but he was also really friendly and encouraging to all of us. I didn’t know what he looked like, but from his voice it sounded like he was in his early 20s.
Me and Craig started to chat more and more on Discord. He was a super nice guy who was also really fun to talk with. He took time out of his day to teach me how to be an even better Engineer player. Whenever someone started dissing me in the voice chat, he firmly told them to leave me alone. After seeing my fair share of toxicity in the TF2 community, it was nice to know that this complete stranger was looking out for me.
This whole Team Engineer thing became a weekly tradition for us on Friday nights. It was something everyone could look forward to after work or school. One time after everyone logged off and said their goodbyes, Craig sent a message a few hours later in our Discord:
“You guys gotta check this out. I found the weirdest server ever. It’s literally Engineer heaven. Meet me at vl_sentry.”
I was still in the mood to play and I could stay up late tonight, so I hopped back on TF2. I saw that Jose, Graham and this other girl we played with named Lynn were also online. I found vl_sentry and connected to the server. The map was called Valley of the Sentries and it was created by Valve.
It took my computer a little bit to process the map, and it took me even longer than that to process what I was seeing.
The map looked like a chessboard with 3D-sculpted hills. The sky was just pure white. Not even white walls, just the color white. Every square had a blue sentry on it and there were about 4 or 5 other Engineers jumping around, spamming their voice lines. That’s when I realized that we were the only ones there, and there was no red team.
“Hey Sean, glad you could make it :)” Craig said in the text chat. “What the hell is this?” I asked. He told me that this was a server that one of his friends showed him. The friend said he was introduced to the map by a friend of his who knew someone who worked at Valve. Craig then went on to explain that apparently Valley of the Sentries was an experiment to test the limits of the sentry guns and their effect on the servers. Rumor has it that the map is infinite.
“Check this out.” said Jose. He switched to Heavy and immediately got shot down. All of the sentries turned towards him. There were so many of them that it made the game lag a ton. He respawned as Engineer and the sentries just kept on spinning.
“WTF?” I typed. “We tried it with all the other classes and it does the same thing.” said Craig. “It ignores Engineers, but shoots everyone else.” Lynn added. “And that’s why we’re the best class. Engineer power!” Graham joked.
I asked what would happen if you were to play as Spy and sap one of the sentries. “I tried, but you gotta have a godly reaction time to activate it.” said Jose. As soon as he said “godly reaction time”, I knew I had to try it out just for the bragging rights.
Respawn. Shot down. Respawn. Shot down. Respawn. Shot down.
Yeah, I did not have a godly reaction time. The others kept spamming “lol” in the chat each time I failed. I got annoyed pretty quickly and stopped trying. Then out of nowhere, all the sentries turned away from me and started firing at someone. I turned around and all five of us were still standing there. I looked at the top bar that shows how many characters were in the game. There were only five Engineers and they were all on the same team. So what the hell were the sentries targeting?
I started to walk in the direction that the sentries were facing and Jose followed me too. We moved really slow, not only because of the sentries on every square but also the uphill climbs. It was just us two in the chat for a while, talking about seeing each other back at school on Monday while we made our slow walk across the map. Then our conversation was interrupted by a chat message from Lynn.
“Why is there a man in the sky?”
Me and Jose tried to get to Lynn to see what she was talking about as fast as possible, but we moved like snails. To get back to the spawn point, we both switched classes, instantly died and respawned as Engineers. I don’t think we respawned in the same place we started from. I don’t even know where we respawned. There were no landmarks or notable things to help you find your way. Just hills, valleys, and sentries.
I asked Lynn where she was and she just told me she was with Graham and Craig. Only that wasn’t very helpful because we didn’t know where they were either. We stood there, stumped for a minute and a half until Jose got an idea. He said that she should just switch classes and respawn, because then all of the sentries would point toward her and we could follow them all the way back to her. She made the switch, got shot down, and we instantly knew where to find her.
We finally got close enough to kind of make out the vague shape of a few Engineers over the non-existent horizon. Me and Jose were relieved, until all the sentries pointed to our right. I swiveled around and saw them open fire on…nothing. I checked with Jose to see if he caught something I didn’t, but he also didn’t see what they were shooting at. I decided that it wasn’t that important and continued to walk towards the rest of the group.
We met up with Lynn, Craig and Graham, disappointed that we made that trek all for nothing. Even though we were all together now, it just felt so lonely. The only sound coming from my computer was the constant beeping of the sentries in perfect sync. I don’t know why, but it made me so uneasy. I attempted to break the silence by going to the voice lines and playing the iconic Engineer “Nope” soundbite. It echoed across the checkered land with no response.
It was about 12:30 AM at this point and I was starting to feel more and more unsettled with each passing minute. There was just something about this black and white world that I felt creeped out by. Before Craig invited us to come over, there was no one else on the server. Who would even want to play on this map, anyways? It’s so unfairly balanced that only one class can survive. Movement speed was super slow, and you can’t even really do anything except watch the sentries turn and turn and turn forever. It was like hypnosis, except I didn’t feel sleepy or relaxed at all.
Speaking of being sleepy, Jose said he was getting tired and was going to be logging off. We all said goodbye to him and continued chatting amongst ourselves. It sounds stupid, but my stomach dropped when I saw the fifth Engineer portrait disappear. One less person to talk to. One less person to keep myself from wondering what else was out here. I could have sworn that after he left, the beeping got louder.
“So is this map actually infinite?” asked Graham. “Only one way to find out.” Craig said. “Just keep on walking and see if it goes on forever.” “Why don’t you just fire a shotgun and see how far it goes?” Lynn suggested.
I took out the shotgun and fired. The bullet flew off into the white distance and disappeared.
Then I heard the distinct sound of someone getting shot.
A message appeared in the chat, from someone named sentry_check_pattern.
“sentry_check_pattern: stop that”
Once again I looked at the top bar. It just showed four blue Engineers. That meant we were the only ones on the server. Or so we thought.
The chat was flooded with our confusion, almost as if everyone realized at the same time that something wasn’t right. None of us moved an inch.
“What even is this place?” I asked, hoping that the mysterious user would provide me with an answer. “Must be Engineer heaven.” said Graham.
“sentry_check_pattern: more like my personal hell”
This was the moment that made me trust my intuition. I knew there was a reason why I found this map so creepy. I wanted to leave the server, but there was just one thing keeping me back- my own curiosity. My wish to unveil the mysteries of the Valley of the Sentries.
“Okay this is really freaking me out. See ya guys.” said Lynn before she left the server. The fourth Engineer’s portrait disappeared from the top bar.
No no no, please. Please don’t go. Don’t leave us. I wouldn’t want to be alone here. Now there’s just three of us, and I really hope that number doesn’t go down anymore. When the others were here, this was just a weird TF2 map that we were exploring together as friends. And now it feels like we’re trapped in this infinite world, but we aren’t alone. The only problem is we don’t know what else is here.
I shuddered, imagining Craig and Graham ditching me and leaving me all alone in the Valley of the Sentries. Just me and whoever- no, whatever was talking to us.
“sentry_check_pattern: you don’t know how good you have it
you can leave at any time
i can’t”
This terrified me. What a horrible thought, never being able to leave this place. But of course, no one could really be trapped here. It’s a Team Fortress 2 server. You can just exit the game and shut your computer. No one could be trapped in a video game.
But if you think about it, aren’t the characters themselves trapped? They can’t leave the game. They’re characters. They don’t even know they’re in a game. You or the computer controls all their actions. They don’t have free will. And if you’re bad at the game, they’ll just keep dying over and over again.
Wait, why was I thinking about this?
I carefully considered what I wanted to say next in the chat. Whatever I said could either answer all my burning questions or leave me asking more. But sentry_check_pattern talked first.
“sentry_check_pattern: i was made for one purpose
to die over and over again”
Oh my god. It was like this person read my mind and knew exactly what I was thinking about. Who or what was I talking to? I turned all the way around to make sure that no one else was there. It was just the two blue Engineers standing behind me. Just Graham and Craig. And that man with the checkered skin.
Startled, I asked my friends if they saw what I saw. It took them a second, but both of them confirmed that yes, there was indeed something else there. A basic male model with the same chessboard texture as the map. Graham immediately started to shoot at him. Nothing. It just went straight through him.
“sentry_check_pattern: you can’t kill what’s already been killed millions of times over
valve made that mistake too
every company has that one failed project they don’t talk about
and that’s me”
Whoever was behind this weird account was talking crazy. The Team Fortress 2 developers were very open about everything like fixing their glitches and bugs. They always posted things on the official blog about the development process. They’re so open about their failures and always promise to fix them.
“Stop with the weird stuff. We just wanted to know what the deal is with this server and the weird chess guy. Do you know anything about it?” Graham asked in the text chat.
“sentry_check_pattern: know anything?
you’re not very bright, graham
none of you are
do you not realize where you are and what you’re talking to”
Something about the way sentry_check_pattern used Graham’s name gave me goosebumps. I didn’t know what I was talking to. I didn’t even think I wanted to know at this point.
“sentry_check_pattern: this is one of valve’s test servers
i’m the texture they use to check if the sentries work
read between the lines”
“Quiet, NPC.” Craig said. I laughed a little bit to fight off the awkward tension. Then I reminded myself that I was talking to a video game character, no- not even a character. A blank character model. A texture.
“sentry_check_pattern: just because i’m a character model doesn’t mean i can’t feel pain
open fire”
The sentries all swiveled around to face the man and shot at him. He kept falling to the ground, turning white and standing back up in the same position.
“sentry_check_pattern: cease fire”
All of the sentries stopped shooting and just went back to spinning around, their beeps echoing in the air.
“sentry_check_pattern: ready to see what i’ve been through for over a decade?
open fire”
Before any of us could react, the sentries opened fire on Craig all at once. He kept dying, but he didn’t explode the way you’re supposed to when you die in TF2. He just dropped to the floor, turned white, and respawned over and over again. There was no death scream. I tried to type something else in the chat but the game lagged so much that my typing just ended up as a string of random letters that meant nothing. Craig tried to type something out too. It just ended up as “wwwwwwwwwwthisishowitfeelswwwwwwwww” Then the game crashed and my computer shut down.
I hyperventilated. Then I laughed at myself for hyperventilating over a stupid computer game. It was Team Fortress 2 for god’s sake. That game with all the memes and goofy jokes. Stupid, stupid Sean. Scared of a character model. Jose would never let me live it down. I just laughed and laughed to push the fear away.
I closed my laptop and took out my phone to rewatch all of my favorite TF2 animations for the millionth time. As if they weren’t already the funniest things in the world, I forced myself to laugh even harder than usual. Every time I saw the Engineer, I couldn’t help but look at the reflection in his goggles. The reflection of an endless map of black and white squares.
Thankfully, nothing bad happened to my game, account or laptop. The next day I just went right back to playing and enjoying the rage coming from all the people who ran right into my sentries.
Team Engineer was still a thing, but it was never really the same. We played together a lot less frequently. It was still a lot of fun, but I felt a change that I couldn’t really describe.
We found out that Craig had lost all progress on his TF2 account. Everyone gifted him all his favorite cosmetics and we all pooled our money together to get him a Steam gift card. He video called us, crying at our kindness. It was the first time I ever even saw his face. He was a lot older than most of us. If I had to guess an age, I’d say somewhere around 30. He had black bangs and was wearing a TF2 shirt. His room was dark, only lit by his glowing computer screen. He thanked us repeatedly and even tried to return the gift card, but we were all adamant that he should keep it.
Speaking of Craig, we still kept in touch but he didn’t talk to me as much anymore. Any time I tried to ask him about vl_sentry, he ignored me for a few days.
The other day, I got some postcards from my cousin Matthew. He was very academic and happened to be studying at a private high school about 9 hours away from where I live. All of his postcards were pictures of him making funny faces with all his friends at favorite school activities like robotics, debate team, and chess club.
I looked at the chess club photo closely. Matthew and his friends were standing in front of a chessboard with a mirror on the wall. And for a split second, I could have sworn that the chessboard looked different in the mirror. It looked warped, like it wasn’t a flat board anymore. Like it almost had hills and valleys. No, it couldn’t be. I rubbed my eyes. There, in the mirror was a checkered man. I knew it was there. I swear on my mother’s life that there was another person in that photo. And then it was gone. Maybe the picture was just printed badly. But I had to make sure my eyes were right.
So I brought the postcard to school with me and I showed Jose. I asked him if he saw the checkered man in the mirror. He said no. But that wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear. That was the answer I hoped I wouldn’t hear. I asked him again. He said no again. Then I asked him another time. He said I was being annoying. So I asked another one of my friends. He said no too. So I moved on to yet another friend. He told me to stop.
I angrily clutched the postcard in my hand, crumpling it. I was the only one that saw what was really there. Everyone else was lying to me. They refused to see the truth.
I screamed and ripped up the postcard. I stomped on its pieces. I rubbed them in the dirt for good measure.
Somewhere in the distance, I heard the sound of electronics beeping.
It rang in my ears.
It was weirdly comforting to me.
You can leave the Valley of the Sentries. But the valley will never leave you.

Cats have flatter faces than canines from what I've noticed, but I'm finding it hard to imply dimension without making him look more canine than feline. I think he reads as feline here, but the face feels sorta flat

2024.05.16 21:24 Pokey-Porky Is the RGB2COMP the right choice for you?

Is the RGB2COMP the right choice for you?
TL;DR: I was trying to find if the difference between S-Video and RGB2COMP was great enough to make the financial decision to change all my cables and buy new/more equipment. I found that there is a noticeable difference in quality, and the decision if it’s worth it is up to you!
For more context on photos and videos please read the painfully long description LOL (sorry I just wanted to be thorough):

Before I got my PVM, I was heavily considering the RGB2COMP as an option for my WEGA Tv. With the WEGA, I was limited to S-Video for most of the consoles that also supported RGB. When I tried to do research, I had a very hard time (and actually could not) find a video that directly compared the improvement that using an RGB2COMP makes as opposed to S-Video. All of the videos and posts I found really didn’t do direct comparisons, and only compared it to composite, in which case the RGB2COMP would obviously provide a huge improvement. What I was trying to find though was if the difference between S-Video and RGB2COMP was great enough to make the financial decision to change all my cables and buy new/more equipment.
My personal need for the RGB2COMP went away when I got my PVM but I still was curious of the difference and now, using the Extron Crosspoint, I also had the ability to compare native RGB to RGB2COMP. So I decided to get everything I needed to do a comparison in-depth enough (given the equipment I have) to have some solid findings, and for others that may have the same question I did to see if RGB2COMP is the upgrade you are looking for.
To get some thoughts and points I would like to state/make out of the way: I was really happy with the improvement S-Video makes over composite, and feel it’s an improvement enough to make the investment for the consoles that support it. I was/still am perfectly pleased with the way that S-Video looks, but given that I now have a PVM and an RGB capable setup I do prefer RGB (there is no denying the jump in quality). I am also aware that the HD Retrovision Component Cables exist, but for the purpose of this comparison, its strictly trying to answer the question “is the RGB2COMP the right choice for me, in comparison to S-Video and keeping native RGB in mind?”
Equipment Used:
For this comparison I am using the following displays:
· PVM 1953MD
· Sony KD-27FS120
For this Comparison I am using the following Consoles+ Video output
· PS1- S-Video
· PS1- RGB (Two separate consoles)
For this comparison I am using the following Cables/equipment
· Retro Access RGB SCART- CSYNC Cable
· Wookieewin SCART to BNC Breakout Adapter
· Extron Crosspoint 300 series 12:8 model
· Wookieewin BNC to SCART Adapter with a 470 Ohm Resistor on the SYNC LINE- VERY IMPORTANT WHEN USING A CROSSPOINT AND RGB INPUTS/OUTPUTS!!!!
· RetroTink RGB2COMP
· Onn Brand (Walmart) RCA cables (for component)
· OEM PS1 S-Video Cable
Main Games used in the comparison:
· Final Fantasy VII
· Metal Gear Solid
Final things to note in this comparison:
· The way that this is hooked up is RGB PS1 input into the Crosspoint, output to the PVM (Native RGB signal) and output to the RGB2COMP (Converted RGB signal). The RGB2COMP then outputs component to the Sony Wega Tv. A separate PS1 is hooked up directly to the Sony Wega Tv with an OEM PS1 S-Video cable.
· PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE USING A CROSSPOINT AND AN RGB SIGNAL, IF YOU OUTPUT TO SCART OR CONSUMER SPEC EQUIPMENT YOU NEED A 470 Ohm RESISTOR ON THE SYNC LINE FOR IT TO BE SAFLEY USED. The crosspoint outputs TTL level sync and if it is unattenuated it can permanently damage your tv or equipment over time. You can solve this by messaging Wookieewin and asking them to include the 470 Ohm resistor onto your order.
· I originally intended to directly compare the RGB2COMP converted component signal to the Native RGB, both on my PVM switching back and forth simultaneously. I quickly realized that this would not be as feasible as I hoped as the PVM processes component brightness differently. It would be very impractical to turn the brightness knob up and down each time I switched, so I ruled this comparison option out, and placed a greater focus on the RGB2COMP VS S-Video comparison.
· I chose Metal Gear and Final Fantasy as they have multiple discs and focused my comparisons mainly on their intro screens to keep the photos as similar as possible. I decided not to compare gameplay too much because of its variability given that this is two different consoles running the same game at the same time.
· The Native RGB and RGB2COMP comparisons are running at the same time (they are the same signal, one is just converted to component) on two different screens (the WEGA consumer TV and the PVM).
· The S-Video and RGB2COMP comparisons are strictly on the consumer WEGA Tv.
· The WEGA Tv is set to “MOVIE” Mode and the PVM is dialed to what I feel is the “appropriate brightness” for the PVM (note this is subjective).
End Findings and Final thoughts:
· Starting with the comparison of RGB2COMP on the consumer WEGA Tv and Native RGB on the PVM, it is very evident that there is what I would call a blue-ish/green-ish hue to the consumer WEGA TV. It is also interesting and important to note that the WEGA and PVM draw the images slightly differently. I don’t think (and cannot say for certain) that the RGB2COMP is what is causing this hue-change, and I strongly believe that it is the Wega Tv as I have found that it provides a very “Super Saturated” look as opposed to the more “Natural” Look of the PVM. This is very color pallet subjective and it’s very possible that someone else’s PVM will not have the same look and hue as my PVM, same with the WEGA Tv. Other than these differences the signal is very similar and picture quality is equally good on both. Chances are that you wouldn’t even notice the hue difference if you were only looking at one or the other.
· For the S-Video comparison I started with the Final Fantasy intro screen comparison to mainly show the color difference, which is very slight but very noticeable. The biggest difference that I found overall is the difference in brightness. I would also like to point out that when looking at this comparison S-Video has what I can best describe as a “white dot effect” in some images, and this is most noticeable in the closeup of the Final Fantasy letters. Now as previously stated the biggest difference is the brightness, I chose and put a greater focus on the intro of Metal Gear to show off how significant it is, as Metal Gears intro is already dark in nature. I feel that the images speak for themselves in terms of brightness, and would like to say that to me brightness makes a huge difference in gameplay. I played Halo to completion on composite video, and I felt that some areas were unbearably dark! It felt like I could not see where I was going or looking at all! I later made the upgrade to original competent cables for the Xbox, and right away noticed the brightness difference. The areas that felt pitch black on composite, had a faint outline in component, allowing me to have an idea of where I was going while still keeping that dark atmosphere intact. All of this to say that brightness makes a big difference in how you experience the game (at least for me). To answer the main question, there is a noticeable difference and upgrade in using the RGB2COMP over S-Video, but if its worth the financial expense for the upgrade is for you to decide. I hope you enjoyed this in-depth analysis and Hope it helps someone out there trying to make the decision as I was faced with.

2024.05.16 19:51 MC_Freeddom Was Jurassic Park originally meant to include aliens?

Okay, i know how this might sound but the proof is in the pudding! So here it is!
In the first movie when Hammond meets Dr, Grant and Dr. Sattler their trailer is full of newspapers/headlines and articles about dinosaurs AND aliens/space!!! There's atleast 2 partially obscured headlines about dinosaurs on Mars, but the big one is front and center plain as day on their fridge stating in big bold letters "Space Aliens Stole My Face"
Now at first i aswell as anyone else ive found discussing this just brushed it off as a Spielberg thing potentially refrencing another of his movies, this wouldnt be the first time. But the alien stuff is specifically also about dinosaurs, this isnt a coincidence however this is where evidence from the movie ends.
But the real world is where things get interesting. So its no secret Spielberg and Crichton have been friends for decades and worked on the JP movies together (duh), but the interesting point here is the dates of the books and movies. The first book came out in 1990 and the first movie came out in 93, but the second book didnt come out until 95 followed by its cinematic counterpart 2 years later, that meams there was plenty of time for rewrites while Spielberg got more involved with the script and story.
So what i think happened is Crichton had this alien angle figured out from the start, its no secret the original concept for the second and third installments was about human-dino hybrids which they thankfully dropped in favor of a more grounded and coherant narrative focusing on the humanity of the story with the hybrid concept evolving its way into the JW series instead. But not before they already made the first movie dropping the alien hints, i mean this almost makes too much sense when we put all these pieces together.
So here is my recreation of the originally intended Jurassic Park lore.
So the aliens were behind it all, and the reason being is the same reason we see highlighted in Jurassic World, genetic power, aka the most powerfull weapon to ever exist.
So the aliens inflitrate Earth taking the classic body snatcher route perhaps even taking Hammond and almost certainly someone like Dr. Henry Wu. All this in the effort to weaponize not just humans and dinos, but life on Earth itself, our very biology.
As Vic Hoskins put it and im paraphrasing "they can't be hacked, they can't be tracked and they have 65 million years of instinct we can train" Almost sounds like something an alien would say eh?
Now there is litterally no end to the points and conclusions i could draw here but the more i think about it the more sense this makes!
But here is one angle i really like to imagine would have been touched on, that being the common gripe of extracting ancient DNA being impossible. It would be much more realistic if these aliens already had DNA from our ancient past using the amber angle as more of a cover.
Also human inteligence could have played a part, we know how dinos are quite uncontrollable, especially engineered ones like the Indominous Rex.
But humans on the other hand... Maybe this was meant to be more of an uplifting rather than an enslavement...
Anyways this has been a blast putting together and if anyone has anything to add or subtract please leave it! Also if anyone knows of any other posts or videos discussing this theory please point me in the direction, as i said the most ive found is people just dismissing Hammonds intro scene.
I just watched the movie but i couldnt wait to read the book before posting this so hopefully it gives me plenty of reasons to return and expand this!

2024.05.16 19:01 SmoreOfBabylon Summary of Announced Updates for Patch 7.0 (Dawntrail) from Today's Live Letter (LL 81)

Here is a summary of the announced upcoming game updates for patch 7.0 (Dawntrail expansion) from today’s Live Letter (LL 81). The information below is complied mainly from the officially translated live stream of the event, as well as FFXIV Discord's translation channel coverage of the event. The stream can be watched in full here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh5piV-0MWQ.
There was a fair amount of gameplay footage shown of the new content (particularly of the new/updated job actions and two brand new jobs), but I only pulled a few points of relevant information from it, rather than summarizing it all. But, as usual, please let me know if I missed anything major!
Patch 7.0: Dawntrail
Officially releases on July 2, 2024
Early access period for pre-orders begins Friday, June 28, 2024; 48-hour pre-launch maintenance beings Wednesday, June 26th
Job Updates
Job Actions Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx2vW0TAJKQ
Note: Today’s presentation was not meant to be a detailed breakdown of ALL planned job changes and additions, just a basic overview of some of the noteworthy adjustments. Full gameplay will be previewed during the current media tour, with complete details on all of the job adjustments, potency changes, etc. to come with the patch notes for 7.0 after launch maintenance begins.
Action Change Settings - To address button bloat, certain actions will be replaced by their follow-up counterparts on the same button upon use, instead of the follow-up actions being on a separate button. However, for those who would prefer it the old way, this setting allows you to choose whether or not those changing actions will be replaced by their follow-up counterparts.
Adjustments to Tanks
  • Rampart and job-specific 30% damage reduction abilities will be upgraded in the 90s level range
  • Reprisal’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Paladin
  • The second and third executions of Atonement have been changed to new actions with separate animations (the Atonement button will change to these actions automatically, so button presses will remain the same)
  • A new action that can be executed after Blade of Valor will be added
  • In order to execute Goring Blade, you will need to have Fight or Flight activated
Warrior
  • A new action, which can be executed after three executions of Fell Cleave or Decimate while Inner Release is active, will be added
  • A new action that can be executed after Primal Rend will be added
  • Visual effects and animation of Inner Chaos will be adjusted
Dark Knight
  • To reduce the number of inputs during burst damage phases, Blood Weapon will upgrade into Delirium, and the effects of Blood Weapon will be added to Deliirium
  • A new action that can be executed after Living Shadow will be added
Gunbreaker
  • A new action that can be executed after Fated Circle (via Continuation) will be added
  • A new 3-step combo that can be executed after Bloodfest will be added (no cartridge cost)
Adjustments to Melee DPS
  • Second Wind’s potency will be increased in the 90s level range
  • Feint’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Monk
  • Basic combo mechanics will no longer center around maintaining a buff or DoT; instead, performing actions in a certain order will increase the next action’s potency. Adjustments will be
  • Can accumulate up to a total of ten chakra while Brotherhood is active, to prevent chakra overflow
  • There will be a potency buff to Six-Sided Star if executed while you have ten chakra stacks
Dragoon
  • To reduce positional requirements for the single-target combo, the 5th combo action has been changed to a new non-directional action, Drakesbane (Fang and Claw/Wheeling Thrust will change to Drakesbane, so input execution will remain the same
  • To facilitate maximum damage output at the beginning of a battle, Life of the Dragon will be available without accumulating Dragon Gauge
  • To reduce the number of inputs during burst damage phases, certain actions will be removed or adjusted
Ninja
  • Huton’s effect has been moved to a trait and will always be active (Huton will be changed to an AoE attack which grants the effect of Hidden)
  • Actions which extend the duration of Huton’s effect will be adjusted in accordance with the above change
  • Due to these adjustments, the Windmill logo in the job gauge will be removed
Samurai
  • To simplify recast management, Tsubame-gaeshi will be changed to be executable after Meikyo Shisui
  • Hakaze, Tenka Goten, and Midare Setsugekka will be upgraded into new actions
  • Traits will be added that shorten the recast time for Hissastsu: Guren and Hissastsu: Senei
Reaper
  • Plentiful Harvest’s effect will no longer increase the Shroud Gauge by 50, and instead will allow execution of Enshroud (now can be used when gauge is at 51 or more without waste)
  • A new action that can be executed while Enshrouded will be added
  • Hells’ Ingress and Hell’s Egress will have reduced cool down when Enhanced Harpe is activated
Viper
  • Link to Viper job overview and gameplay demonstration in the livestream
  • A fast-paced job that fluidly shifts between dual-wield blades and double-bladed strikes
  • Has a similar total number of actions as other jobs, but is designed so that fewer actions need to be set on the hotbar
  • Executing actions will build a job gauge, which can then be expended in an enhanced “Awaken” phase
  • When applying buffs to yourself as well as debuffs to the enemy, certain other actions will be enhanced depending on which buffs/debuffs are active
  • In addition to close-range melee attacks, there are also some long-range attacks available should you need to fight from afar
Adjustments to Ranged Physical DPS
  • Second Wind’s healing potency will be increased in the 90s level range
  • Damage reduction of job-0specific defensive abilities will be increased to 15% in the 90s level range
Bard
  • Mage’s Ballad, Army’s Paeon, and the Wanderer’s Minuet will be changed into buffing actions which do not attack enemies
  • Pitch Perfect will be changed into an AoE attack for ease of use in encounters with multiple enemies
  • Single-target and AoE procs (Straight Shot Ready/Shadow Bite Ready) will be merged into one proc for better ease of use
Machinist
  • Barrel Stabilizer will no longer increase Heat Gauger by 50, and instead will allow execution of Hypercharge (can now be used when gauge is at 51 without waste)
  • A new trait which accumulates charges for Drill will be added
Dancer
  • A new action that can be executed after Flourish will be added
  • A new action which consumes Esprit and can be executed after Technical Finish will be added
  • Certain skills currently triggered by Standard Step may now be executed without having to go through the step actions
Adjustments to Magical Ranged DPS
  • Swiftcast’s recast will be reduced to 40 seconds in the 90s level range
  • Addle’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Black Mage
  • Various adjustments will be made to streamline certain aspects of the job, such as restoring MP upon landing ice spells while Umbral Ice is active, instead of passively over time
  • A new action which repositions Ley Lines beneath the caster once will be added
Summoner
  • Solar Bahamut, a new summon akin to Bahamut and Phoenix, will be added (new summon rotation will be: Solar Bahamut - Bahamut - Solar Bahamut - Phoenix)
  • A new attack action that can be executed after Searing Light will be added
  • Summoner will keep Resurrection for Dawntrail, but may have it removed in 8.0
Red Mage
  • Manafication will no longer increase Black Mana and White Mana by 50, and will instead allow the execution of enchanted swordplay actions without cost (can now be executed while mana is at 51 or more without waste)
  • The AoE enchanted swordplay combo beginning with Enchanted Moulinet will now consume a total of 50 Black Mana and White Mana, similar to its single-target counterpart
  • Whenever Embolden is executed, an attack ability will be enabled
Pictomancer
  • Link to Pictomancer overview and gameplay demonstration in the livestream (I found this job much easier to understand by watching the demonstration, BTW)
  • Job actions centered around Aether Hue elemental attacks (Red = Flare, Green = Aero, Blue = Water) and Motifs (Creature, Weapon, and Landscape)
  • Aether Hue attacks build a gauge that can be expended on White elemental Holy attacks as well as Subtractive Pallette, which upgrades your other elemental attacks to higher-potency elements.
  • Creature Motif involves rendering parts of a creature (eg. a Moogle) via attacks that will eventually summon the creature for a higher-powered attack
  • Weapon Motif is a fast triple-cast combo
  • Landscape Motif is a longer-cast action that deals damage to enemy and grants buffs to self and party members
Adjustments to Healers
  • Swiftcast’s recast time will be reduced top 40 seconds in the 90s level range
White Mage
  • A new action allowing the caster to quickly move forward will be added
  • A new AoE attack, which can be executed up to 3 times after Presence of Mind, will be added
  • New trait that increases Tetragrammaton stack number will be added
Scholar
  • Seraphism, a new action which changes the caster’s appearance and enhances healing magicks, will be added
  • A new AoE attack that can be executed after Chain Stratagem will be added; it will include a DoT
  • A new trait that reduces recast time for Recitation will be added
Astrologian
  • The card system will no longer be RNG based, and will instead simultaneously draw cards with offensive, defensive, and curative effects
  • Every 60 seconds, you can draw one set of four cards (divided under Lord of Crowns or Lady of Crowns), each card having different effects, and you can use the cards in that set depending on your situational needs
  • Astrodyne will be removed with the discontinuation of astrosigns
  • New trait that increases Essential Dignity stack number will be added
Sage
  • Eukrasia will now enhance Dyskrasia II into Eukrasian Dyskrasia, an AoE attack which deals damage over time to enemies within range
  • A new party buff, which heals party members whenever the caster casts a spell, will be added (basically a ranged version of Kardion, but will only be in effect for a limited amount of time)
  • New trait that reduces the recast time of Soteria will be added
PvP Updates
  • Viper and Pictomancer will be added to PvP in 7.0
  • New PvP actions, action adjustments, and adjustments to existing PvP maps are currently planned for 7.1
  • Crystalline Conflict ranked matches will;; be in preseason between 7.0 and 7.1 (rankings will not be updated, but tiers and Crystal Credit will be affected by wins and losses
New Characters
  • Two new NPCs that will appear in the Dawntrail MSQ were discussed: Bakool Ja Ja and Koana, who will both be competing for the throne of Tural. Bakool Ja Ja is a two-headed Mamool Ja, similar to Gulool Ja Ja, and Koana is the male Miqo’te from the Dawntrail poster.
    Other Information
  • Benchmark software/graphics update: Some adjustments have been made based on feedback on the original benchmark. These include adjustments to lighting in the character creator, as well as corrections to graphical oddities in character models (addressing things like Keeper of the Moon Miqo’te teeth and Lalafell mouths/teeth). These adjustments will be incorporated into a new benchmark available for download, in addition to the game itself with Dawntrail. Information about a release date for the new benchmark will be announced later.
  • Free Fantasia: Starting in 7.0, there will be a new NPC in Ul’dah with a low level quest that can be completed for one free Fantasia per character.
  • In addition, using a Fantasia will now grant a 60 minute period during which you can make additional adjustments to your character after re-entering the game world if you are not satisfied with how the adjustments look in game. There is no limit to how many additional times you can tweak your character within this 60 minute period.
  • Fall Guys collaboration event returns from May 23rd to June 10th
  • Mountain Dew promotional event (US only): enter codes found under caps of specially marked Man. Dew products to receive points that can be redeemed for rewards, including in-game rewards such as a “Mountain Zu” mount and a consumable drink item.
  • Preorders now open for new merchandise on the Square Enix store
  • Immerse Gamepack version 2.2 available now: https://embody.co/ffxiv
  • KFC promotional event is returning to Japan; details to be announced later

2024.05.16 18:51 Far-Hamster-283 Been thinking of changing my course to BFA. Is KUSOA a good choice?

I'm thinking of changing my course to bfa. It was quite a hard decision to make but if possible i want to do something i really love.
I've been been doing digital arts for quite some time (mostly anime arts), also interned for graphic designing and recently I've learned potrait/pencil art in a workshop (to prepare for the still life exam TT).
But I'm quite scared whether I'll pass the entrance or not cause to be honest till now i'd only been drawing as a hobbie and am still not quite good at it. And i want to join KU so much because I've been at their exhibitions and i loveed the digital art sections (logos, games design,3d,graphic design, animations).
I've heard 'graphic communication' is quite good in kusoa so i wanted to ask students studying in kusoa. How's your experience (your struggles, what did you like the most and everything)?
And also is the entrance examination hard? What should i focus on for my preparation?
