2024.05.18 06:01 Robips05 New Server Announcement: DragonMoon

From the ashes of Ascension we present to the Asheron's Call Community: DragonMoon. An Ascension-inspired expansion to the wonderful world created by Ascender and Evil.
----
May 2024: A New Spring
New Adventurers are arriving every day in Adventure's Haven. It has become a new home and one stop shop for all kinds of quality-of-life goodies as new adventurers join DragonMoon.
In the Adventurer's Haven you will find NPC's trading all tiers of rares for Dragon Eggs: weapons, armor, gems, backpacks, dispel gems, and much, much more. All rares now drop as colored "Dragon Eggs," each color corresponding to a rare tier.
Inspired by the egg collectors, many other vendors have joined ranks and come to Adventurer's Haven. Some selling spells, equipment, or other services. Tokens are collected and traded, with secret portals and passages available to those who seek with earnest eyes.

UPCOMING CONTENT:
Release Lore:
The Red Dragon landed hard on the dark, dusty soil, his front legs slipping out from underneath him as his massive frame finally came to rest. His body was broken, borked, battered and cut from a thousand battles. A back leg was missing, harvested by warriors for its bone; same with a large portion of his hide.
His breath grew shallow… slow. His lips parted as he drew in a deep breath through his mouth. Most of his teeth were missing, what had become of them he wasn't sure. Probably turned into necklaces. Or worse, maces.
The night grew dark as the Red Dragon exhaled through his burning nostrils. He knew the last battle had been fought; no more would he be harassed by thirsty adventurers. His heartbeat slowed down, his last moments were upon him.
He couldn't help it; he knew he was dying, but one last smile crossed his lips. The Red Dragon's reign would be legendary. Adventurers would retell his epic story over and over: how he and his gold and black followers had rained blood and horror and evil down upon the inhabitants of Dereth. He might be dying, but he had fulfilled his purposes. His followers would continue in his stead. Death wasn't the end for him, his Ascension was just beginning.
From deep within his heart, a flame was ignited. It began slowly, but rapidly sped up with each dying breath. Within moments the Red Dragon was no more than a pile of ash. His death was complete, and his reign ended.
Off in the distance, the moon began to rise, slowly showing itself over the top of the mountains. The moonlight bounced off the white ash, illuminating it against the dark contrast of the landscape. Slowly something beneath the ash began to stir. The ash shifted and began to fall away. In the ashy depths of the Red Dragon there now stood a small irregular shaped egg. A dragon... egg?
Or something else -- something born in the light of the moon.
PsyberTrigger looked over the pile of ashes that had suddenly become a nest to a very small and rather pathetic looking egg. Something was amiss. He felt that familiar tug in his chest. Is this it? He looked over his shoulder at Tsung. He could feel it in the air, something was brewing.
A dark figure stepped out of portal space. His head was held high, his shoulders thrown back, a large ax held in one hand. He glared at the scene in front of him. But there was a strange look in his eye. He looked familiar, but PsyberTrigger couldn't quite remember why...
The dark figure walked over to the nest of ash and picked up the egg. He stared at it for a second before quickly tucking it in his backpack.
Before Psyber or Tsung could open their mouths to say something more figures began appearing from portal space. First one, then another, and another. They looked sad, defeated - just as the dragon had… but there was something else. Was that hope? What were they hoping to find here? Psyber recognized some of these faces. There was Mary, and Ron, Serrano, Multi, and even Baxter. For some reason even Strength was here. More were coming, too many to name.
Psyber looked at Tsung again. "More are coming, aren't they?" he asked.
Tsung nodded. "Looks like it, better get the Advocates ready."
Come join us on DragonMoon!

2024.05.17 03:09 Blackrazor_NZ Fill The Gaps - viable build using leftover abilities?

I've tried very hard to build a stable of characters that are as distinct from each other as possible. This means trying to minimise the reuse of classes, playstyles, or abilities.
I've been left with a bunch of 'orphan abilities' which I've not used on any toons, and based on my research aren't used that often due to some inherent flaws in some of their designs. These are:
Can anyone suggest some good, viable builds with a nice blend of ST and AOE damage, using at least 2 and preferably 3 of the above as the build's primary abilities rather than being relegated to support roles?
I realise I can search GrimTools for builds, however many times builds using the above skills only show up because they are used as a support ability, rather than the priority ability. I'd love some feedback from people who have actually built successful builds that focus on the above rather than just use them as a debuffer or seasoning.
(there are plenty of other abilities I've used and know are powerful but avoid because I dislike the playstyle e.g. skeletons, Aegis, Vires Might, Callidor's Tempest, P.Blades, & Blitz)
My list of current builds in use is below for comparison.

2024.05.16 22:14 CaptainCyro My idea for a Miitopia TV show

Now, as you may know Nintendo series like Mario and Kirby got TV shows, now this has me wondering, what if Miitopia got a TV show, so for that, I have some ideas for it, so I felt like sharing it with you. So the fan of the games can easily understand the plot. Although most episodes will focus on the cast and their goal to save Miitopia, I'll hope include some episodes that'll help character grow and develop. Character cast: Now my idea for a cast is that I'll follow one of Miitopia's best features, being able to put in any character in the story, now I'll only have one original character, being the protagonist, other that that, all other characters would've already exist, now due to copyright, I'll only cast Nintendo characters to fill the roles , I'll also might include some Pokemon characters since Gamefreak is close to Nintendo and some celebrities [Like youtubers, voice actors, etc] here and there, so if you don't like it my casting or think the Pokemon characters will lead to copyright, you can type your own cast down below. So let the madness and fun begin. The cast: Carefree Guide: Mario Cheery Granny: Gardevoir Sassy Child: Goomba Worried Mother: Indeedee Lovely-Dovey Couple: Ash and Serena Sarcastic Guy: Toad Dubious Mayor: Luigi Dark Lord: Louie Roving Photographer: Koopa Quizmaster: Orbeetle Prodigious Postman: Pelipper Roaming Gourmet: Kirby Serious Soldier: Boo Lax Soldier: Monty Mole Royal Supports: Bandana Dee and Escargoon King: King Dedede Princess: Lana Prince from Neksdor: Bulborb Besmirched Noble's Son: Waddle Dee Great Sage: Aphmau Genie: Spike Dancing Guide: Oricorio Rambling Old Man: Jack Black Shady Merchant Family: Toadette and Garos Worried Explorer: Bowser Prickly Couple: Inkling Boy and Girl Desert Celebrity: Chris Pratt Fab Faries: Peach, Daisy and Rosalina Injured Elf: Yellow Pikmin Fab Fairies fans: Regice, Regirock and Registeel Scaredy-Cat: Torracat Green-Eyed Lady: Zelda Lazybones: Ice Pikmin Mischievous Witch: Meowscarada Town Guide: Blue Pikmin Scholary Pioneer: Donkey Kong Dark Curse: Vanillite The Protangonist: Name: Gideon Description: Gideon is a traveling comedian who although laid back, loves to entertain people and make them smile, he went to Miitopia has it heard it was in a bad shape and he thought it meant that Miitopia needed cheering up, although he has a good heart, being laid-back his laziness limits his capabilities where it often leads to him not doing something at his best. After meeting the guardian spirit, he was given the powers of a mage, in Neksdor when Louie sealed away his powers he became a warrior, and in Realm of the Fey when his powers were sealed away again, he became a thief and when his powers were no longer sealed away, he became a wizard once more. Greenhorne Allies: Mallow: Class: Chef Description: Mallow left Alola soon after hearing about the culinary cuisine of Miitopia so she set off to learn the recipes of Miitopia dishes with her family. Sadly soon after reaching Miitopia, she and her family were attacked by the Dark Lord resulting in her family losing their faces and the ambush caused her and her Tsareena to seperate. Now wanting to save them, she wanders around Miitopia look to save her family Steve [Red Pikmin]: Class: Warrior Description: Steve grew up on a long lost land, and is the best knight in his habitat. He left his natural habitat to find a purpose as he felt like his talents were wasting away, so after hearing Miitopia was in danger, he knew what he had to do, he rose to the challenge and set sail for Miitopia. But his main flaw is that he thinks highly of himself and tries to lift super heavy things on his own with little to no success. Nabbit: Class: Theif Description: The infamous thief of the Mushroom Kingdom was able to steal anything and not get caught, so in his hideout, he read of an amulet that grants insane power to control an army, and after turning on the TV, he soon saw the Dark Lord wearing the same amulet, so he set for Miitopia to retrieve the powerful artifact so he can make monsters to steal anything and is capable of reaching high speeds due to his insane energy. Meloetta: Class: Pop Star Description: During her time in Unova, Meloetta was caught by a kind and caring local singer, and soon after, Meloetta and her trainer were the best singers in Unova dropping amazing albums left and right, they came to Miitopia after receiving an invitation to perform a concert but after landing there and got to the meeting spot, it was a trap set by the Dark Lord to use the Mythical's face to make an extremely powerful monster. But her trainer was able to distract him long enough for him to escape, last thing Meloetta saw was the Dark Lord stealing her trainers faces. Being a kind soul, she often tries to stop quarrels and fights and most of the time she's the voice of reason. Neksdor Allies: Olimar: Class: Scientist Description: Olimar and his family set off for Miitopia after hearing it's excellent vacation spots, but soon after landing there, his family's faces were snagged by his coworker Louie, not wanting to be next, he hid until Louie left, and set off to save his family and stop Louie. Purple Pikmin: Name: Purp Class: Cleric Description: On his home town, Purp was a doctor attending to the injured, but after being accused of stealing a patients skeleton, he quickly lost his medical license, so instead of using medicine to heal his patients, he studied in cleric magic to heal his patients way faster, and he set off for Miitopia with his friend Rocky soon after hearing it had lots of injuries. Despite his divine magic his lack of intellect gets in the way leading to dumb scenarios. Ice Cream Sandwich: Class: Imp Description: While in his house, he hears of a land called Miitopia, where it has an animation contest in Neksdor where whoever wins gets a huge cash prize, so he invited his friends, and dog along and soon set off for Miitopia, where during the time he was there, he had a good time, eating snacks, hanging with the boys, messing around. Until after the competition where the winner was about the being announced, the event is quickly interrupted by the Dark Lord where he starts stealing everyone's faces, him, his dog and his friends went to hide in the bathroom since according to his brain, everyone knocks before entering the bathroom, before anyone said something, the Dark Lord busted in and stole his friends' faces and his dog, after checking if the Dark Lord was gone, he swore vengeance, so went around hoping to find people to help him Rock Pikmin: Name: Rocky Class: Cat Description: On Rocky's natural habitat he owned a cat sanctuary, where he helped felines find forever homes and learned how to fight like a cat, so he after hearing about the exclusive cat breeds on Miitopia, he soon set off with his friend Purp but soon after the Dark Lord stole his cat Terry, him and his friend wanted revenge, but just with Purp's healing magic and his feline abilities, it wouldn't be enough, so the set off for heroes to find so they could help them. Throughout the series, Rocky suffers from an extreme lack of IQ so he needs help when it comes to situations that require intellect to solve. And together with Icecreamsandwich and Purp, the three often do dumb stuff together and get into all sorts of trouble. Realm of the Fey Allies: Tsareena: Class: Princess Description: After soon being seperated from Mallow, Tsareena ended up in Realm of the Fey, lost and not knowing where to go, soon she met up with a potion, thirsty and out of options, she drank it where it granted her the magically abilities of royalty. After meeting up with the protagonist she soon set off with him to reunite with Mallow. Lilligant: Class: Flower Description: After stowing away on a cargo ship from Unova to Miitopia, Lilligant started exploring Miitopia and ended up in Realm of the Fey, so after befriending the local elves, she learnt the ways of harnessing the power of nature and really bonded with them, but after hiding when the Dark Lord attacked, she started to leave and set off to retrieve her friends and quickly met up with the protangonist. Having a gentle soul she sees the good in everyone often leading her to spare monsters. Golurk: Class: Tank Description: After hearing about Miitopia's situation, a bunch of Unova scientist got together and turned a Golurk into a weapon of mass destruction and was quickly shipped to Miitopia, after landing there, he started looking for the Dark Lord, and soon got orders from his creators to wait by a local inn to receive some allies to help him. During battle, Golurk will stop at nothing to defeat his opponents, even if it means firing his allies and shooting everywhere to ensure victory. He thinks he doesn't need help and often refuses assistance believing he can be a big shot and do it himself. Other Allies: Litwick: Class: Vampire Description: Litwick was caught by a vampire on vacation in Unova and the two quickly bonded. While in the land of Peculia, Litwick lived a simple life with his trainer in their mansion and his trainer taught Litwick vampire like abilities, until the Darker Lordsent a rat infestation in there, Litwick's trainer told him to get help to stop the rat invasion, soon he quickly met up with the protagonist and quickly asked him for help and after they agreed, they set off and during the journey Litwick quickly bonded with the team and after the rats were defeated, his trainer noticed his bond with the team and told them that if he wanted to go with them he wouldn't stop him, so Litwick quickly joined the party, and during his time in it, he often pulled pranks on his team and during battle, he likes to mix in fun by toying with his opponents and he calls them, his prey. Alchremie: Class: Elf Description: Alchremie lived in Peculia with a baker and together they made sweets for lotsa people. But after the Darker lord stole her trainer's face, she swore revenge, she went off to realm of the Fey to study the ways of elf magic and after learning the elf magic he returned to Peculia to look for her trainer's face soon after seeing the protagonist and his team struggle against a monster with her trainer's face, she went to the rescue and defeated the boss with ease. After her trainer got his face back Alchremie asked him if she could travel with the team to stop the Darker Lord, and her trainer quickly agreed. After this the team notice that Alchremie is a bit cautious, worries about a lot of things and likes to be ready for everything. Episode ideas: Now a lot of the series would be about the team saving Miitopia, but some episodes would be mainly about character growth and stuff like that. Some episode ideas I have: Lilligant the Shy Flower: After a battle with a strong demon, who made Lilligant worried about everything, it wouldn't wear off even in the safe spot, following a montage of the team trying to return her to normal like Mallow cooking her some magic food, Purp, Icecreamsandwich and Rocky pulling a prank on Olimar to cheer her up, Gideon telling a joke to cheer her up, or Steve just downright slapping her and many others, they figured that nothing could work until when the same demon invaded the inn and almost destroyed her team, Lilligant pushed herself and unleashed a hurricane blowing the demon away. Chaotic Tea Time: In the foreground we can see Lilligant and Tsareena having a tea party and chatting, while in the background Gideon and Golurk try to kill a fiend with all sorts of shenanigans, and the episode keeps switching from foreground to background and it ends with Golurk unleashing a powerful laser boosted with some energy cells Gideon has which ended up leveling half the forest.

2024.05.16 22:00 Massive_Learner Wayland not detecting 3rd monitor after Fedora 40 upgrade.

I have a desktop Dell PC, dual-booting with Windows 10 and Fedora. My setup has 3 monitors.
Prior to upgrading to Fedora 40, all 3 monitors were working well with Fedora 39. After upgrading to Fedora 40, the 3rd monitor just shows a black screen. As the computer is booting, I can see the Dell logo on all 3 monitors and Windows still works with the 3 monitors. However, when I am in the login screen, and after login into Gnome, only 2 monitors work. However, if I log into Gnome on Xorg, the 3 monitors do work. So I suspect it is a Wayland thing.
What is strange is that the 3rd monitor does appear with inxi, but it is still black.
Here is some info on my system after running inxi -Fzxxx:

2024.05.16 11:13 Swingfire The AMT class from hell [LONGPOST]

Chapter I: The Covid 727
The school let its aircraft (727-200 cargo) rust out on the tarmac for multiple years (starting with the covid lockdown) without activating anything or mothballing it properly so all the systems died. Originally half the coursework was going to be practical and on the plane, and the big showcase final exercise was to jack it up, turn on hydraulics via GPU, extend/retract the LG and take a photo of the class all smiling and ready to go to the internships. In the cafeteria wall here's still the photos of the classes from before 2020 in their work overalls smiling with their teacher. These photos were what the school used for recruiting. Look at all these students lifting a plane off the ground through the power of teamwork, this could be you! They only stopped using that to recruit recently for reasons that will become apparent.
Now we had no practical courses at all for the entire two years since going on inside is a danger from all the black mold that's covered the plane and the fumes from the clapped-out hydraulic and fuel system. Of course, having a rusted-out hulk and giving your students no practice might go against 147 rules so the EASA auditor told them to get that wreckage off the tarmac or else.
Chapter II: Else:
My country has no aircraft dismantling organizations and flying them in for a job is expensive, so the school figured out a great way to hit two birds with one stone in a traditional Belgian style: slavery. They opened up a brand new course on aircraft dismantling, to be headed by the one poor teacher who is actually licensed to take apart aircraft, helming a "crew" of high school graduates and job-seekers. It was a shitshow and every time the teacher looked away there was someone taking an angle grinder to a titanium part or sawing off a piece of fuselage directly above them. Naturally they did not manage to dismantle the plane but at least the teacher did manage to stop anyone from hurting themselves and he neatly removed all the useful/sensitive components like the instruments, radios and radar.
But in the end they did worse than not doing anything at all, really, since they turned an (at least plane-shaped) wreck into a giant pile of bullshit, and the school is right next to the local international airport's taxiway -that's how the 727 arrived- so every RyanAir is sent off with a nice view of an exploded 727-200 right before takeoff. Happy flying!
So EASA catches wind of Baby's First Slavery Aircraft Dismantling Company and comes down hard on the school and takes away their Part 147 license until they get their shit together (as a side note this is where I rejoined the school to upgrade my Part 66 from A to B1/B2). EASA said no more slavery, so the teacher has to work alone and do full-time weekends sawing this plane apart bit by bit. Dude is in his late 50s and comes every monday to give us 8 hours of M11 for a week straight looking like his skeleton is made of pain. I gotta point out the slavery wasn't his idea, he was just put in charge of it, and I admire him for putting up with so much crap to bail the school out.
Chapter III: It gets worse:
So without EASA's approval, our school is in fact not a school, and legally it's more of a homeless shelter where people gather together to listen to the wise ones give factoids about the 737 and A320. The problem with this is the school receives huge subsidies from the the government and the Air Force for personnel retraining and was already in hot water for their 70%+ failure rate which is somehow higher than a 5-year course in law, engineering or medicine from the universities. Now with their Part 147 approval gone the school was about to serve up a never-seen before 100% failure rate across four AMT classes (two Part-66 A, one Part-66 B and one EMAR-66) and vaporize over a million euros worth of subsidies with nothing to show for it.
Desperate times call for dumb measures, so our school administration rang up a French AMT school with their new genius plan. For a week, our school will officially cosplay as theirs, their teachers come over and make us pass exams, then they go back to France. Of course, the exams will be based on their syllabi, not ours, and we had no access to their syllabus at all until halfway done with our courses. But you know what's cheaper than hiring French teachers for two weeks to make us pass exams? That's right, hiring them for four days and compressing the entire exams session into 4 days, from 8AM to 4PM, with sometimes 4-5 exams per day. The director came to give us some encouraging words like "try to pass half of them lol".
Chapter IV: The Future:
There is a fourth class which I hadn't mentioned before, which is comprised entirely of people from the Air Force. As a requirement for going up in rank, they were sent here to get an EASA-66 license and some extra courses (about weaponry and radar magic, etc.) to get the EMAR-66 on top of it and become proper technicians. They presented their exams ahead of us and word is that they all failed so now the Air Force is also coming down with the hammer on the school that froze its entire ground crew training pipeline. And since these people were already support crew, we have no chance in hell.
The 727 wreckage is still on the tarmac. Supposedly it will be replaced by an ERJ-190, but that's what they've been saying since I signed up, the 190 is nowhere to be seen and I'm 50/50 on whether it exists at all. Even if it does, it's practically guaranteed to end up like the 727 in a few years since nothing has structurally changed.
Exams Begin next tuesday. Wish me luck! And take the train whenever possible.

2024.05.14 21:41 Queer_always My guide to Disneyland Paris for Disneyland Californians

Writing this for folks whose home park is OG Disneyland and are considering or planning a trip to DLP. Whether that's you or you're looking for advice in the opposite direction, feel free to AMA!
I wrote up some aspects of my trip in this post, for reference. For context, I visit Anaheim a few times a year for 2-3 days each -- sometimes alone, sometimes with others -- and have been to Walt Disney World a handful of times (mostly for a single day while visiting my in-laws in the Orlando area).
Stow yer weapons: this is gonna be long. I'll talk atmosphere, attractions, food and drinks, and tips geared toward this audience. (I won't cover shows or character greetings, since they're not really my thing.)
Atmosphere:
Disneyland Paris is widely regarded as the most beautiful of the castle parks, and I agree. The attention to detail is stunning, from the horticulture to the rock work to the stained glass in the castle. The land transitions are smooth and beautifully executed, and the park generally feels more deliberately planned (probably since it wasn't built in a year and haphazardly swapping parts for the next seventy, like DLCA).
The park is bigger than Anaheim's, probably close to Magic Kingdom size, so add a minute or two to your commute time when crossing from one end to the other.
Some can't-miss experiences and details unique to DLP (skipping the rides since I'll cover those next, but including walk-throughs):
MAIN STREET
FANTASYLAND
ADVENTURELAND
FRONTIERLAND
DISCOVERYLAND
Rides:
Some comparisons and contrasts. Didn't ride everything (e.g. carousel, teacups, Autopia), so I'll just share notes on the ones I did.
Big Thunder: Best version I've been on, period. It's on an island, so you plunge in and out of the darkness to get there, and the seats are actually divided so you're not body-slamming the person next to you every time you careen around a corner. Don't sleep on the detail and theming! Only bummer: no goat trick.
Pirates: Great queue: caves and little sneak peeks into scenes. Caribbean themed instead of bayou, restaurant included. Different structure and order of scenes, and frankly sort of confusing (e.g. Jack Sparrow is on the treasure pile among the skeleton tableaux for his little monologue). The sword fighting scene is unique to DLP (I think).
Fantasyland dark rides: Pinocchio is almost exactly the same as in CA. Snow White is more like the pre-COVID version, but even creepier; it's definitely the most divergent from the current CA version. Peter Pan is close to its CA version, but feels slightly larger?
Small World: More granular Europe, cute America section, generally quite different in layout. White-clad finale is a fair with a Ferris wheel and such.
Haunted Mansion/Phantom Manor: Identical ride track and Doom Buggies, but totally different storyline and different tableaux, particularly at the finale, which is a Western town instead of a graveyard. They don't put scrims in front of the frontier town zombies, which makes them creepier somehow. It's a unique take and a must-do.
Space Mountain: This one blows ours out of the water. Catapult launch, several inversions, much faster and darker. Be aware they don't have pouches for your stuff and will instruct you to put it on the floor. I stepped on the strap of my bag because I was certain I was gonna lose it.
Star Tours: Identical, though one time I got narration in English and the other time in French. May be randomized?
Railroad: No primeval world but they do have their own Grand Canyon. Circle tour is a must; you cover completely different ground and get a great pano of the whole park. My train was in compartments rather than long cars.
Indiana Jones: This is not the Jeep tour by any stretch; it's an outdoor roller coster that rattled my teeth out of my head. Think an extreme version of Goofy's Sky School with the unbanked turns. KEEP YOUR HEAD BACK. And even then, don't be surprised if you get off with sore ears and a buzzy headache that last a few minutes.
Food and Drinks:
I talked extensively about this in my other post, so I'll just note a couple of comparisons.
General info/advice:
I have a lot of good news for Californians, because Paris is a cakewalk in comparison. I'm sure I hit a slower period, but it's so easy to go with the flow without playing nine-dimensional chess on your phone every three minutes.
I'm tired of typing, and you're doubtless tired of reading, but if you have questions about the Studios park, feel free to ask in the comments.

2024.05.13 09:23 so_zetta_byte Bootstrap going infinite from 0 mana, using only 3 arbitrary creatures on board and 17 cards in your graveyard

Okay so I'm working on an uncommon/common restricted EDH deck. It's Golgari self-mill with a theme loosely built around [[Insidious Roots]] and effects that trigger when creatures leave your graveyard, with a bunch of impractical loops.
As a deckbuilding puzzle, I wanted a way to bootstrap going infinite assuming my whole deck was already in my graveyard, with as few on-board resources available as possible. Is this realistic? No. How did the graveyard get filled? Shhhh. Is it optimal? Not my problem. I'm limited to zero rares/mythics so don't @ me. It's all a principle thing.
Setup: any 3 creatures on board, graveyard completely full.
  1. Sacrifice the three creatures to [[Dread Return]], bringing back [[Young Necromancer]]. From the Young Necromancer trigger, bring back [[Su-Chi Cave Guard]].
  2. Sacrifice Su-Chi Cave Guard by flashing back [[Cabal Therapy]]. {8 colorless mana floating}
  3. Filter one mana through [[Jack O' Lantern]] for green. Flash back [[Turn the Earth]] to put [[Victimize]] in your library as the only card. {6 C floating}
  4. Exile [[Buried Treasure]] to discover 5, casting Victimize. {1 C}
  5. Sacrifice Young Necromancer to Victimize, returning [[Priest of Gix]] to add 3 black mana, and [[Timeless Witness]] to return Victimize to your hand. {1 C, 3 B}
  6. Cast Victimize, sacrificing Timeless Witness to return Su-Chi Cave Guard and [[Viscera Seer]]. {1 B}
  7. Sacrifice Su-Chi Cave Guard to Viscera Seer. {8 C, 1 B}
  8. Exile [[Halo Scarab]] to make a treasure. Sacrifice it to float a green. {6 C, 1 B, 1 G}
  9. Flash back [[Dryad's Revival]] to return Victimize to hand. {2 C, 1 B}
  10. Cast Victimize, sacrificing Priest of Gix. Return Su-Chi Cave Guard and [[Baloth Null]] to the battlefield.
  11. With Baloth Null's trigger, return [[Stonework Packbeast]] and [[Eternal Witness]] to your hand. Sacrifice Su-Chi Cave Guard to Viscera Seer. {8 C}
  12. Play Stonework Packbeast. Filter 4 mana into one black and one green. {2 C, 1 B, 1 G}
  13. Flash back [[Diregraf Rebirth]] to return Su-Chi Cave Guard. Sacrifice it. {10 C}
  14. Filter 4 C into GG. Cast Eternal Witness, returning Victimize to hand. {5 C}.
  15. Filter 2 C for B, and cast Victimize sacrificing Eternal Witness. Bring back Su-Chi Cave Guard and Timeless Witness. {1 C}
  16. With Timeless Witness' trigger, return Victimize to hand. Sacrifice Su-Chi Cave Guard. {9 C}.
  17. We now have a loop. Repeatedly cast Victimize, sacrificing Su-Chi Cave Guard to Viscera Seer each iteration. Alternate between Timeless/Eternal Witness to bring back Victimize to hand. Each iteration nets 4 colorless mana (it takes 4 C to filter for a black and cast Victimize, and you gain 8 from Su-Chi Cave Guard). Filter the mana through Stonework Packbeast. {Infinite mana of any color}
You can now use the Witnimize loop to get infinite ETB/LTBs on any creature you want. [[Rift Sweeper]] can return all the cards you exiled back to your library. Bring them back to your graveyard by recurring/saccing [[Rot Farm Skeleton]].
Use additional cards to win however you want. I prefer to repeatedly play [[Spider Spawning]] for infinite spiders, and then bring back and activate [[Rotwidow Pack]]. The world is your oyster spider.

2024.05.11 07:25 kiltedfrog Legion hires a new babysitter.

"We're sorry, we didn't know she was your daughter!" The young costumed villain said sarcastically, standing in front of his little group. He was dressed like robin hood, but black and red, instead of joyful green. It was Greedy Cowl and his Miserly Men.
"And that's your justification? You're sorry because the vulnerable little girl you kidnapped was the wrong little girl?" A single gaunt man said. "Are you saying you wouldn't be sorry if it was any other little girl?"
"Its not quite like that, Skeleton Jack, we're not even sorry it's your kid." Greedy Cowl said. "You're just one tired dusty old sod, what're you going to do? If you're not here to pay the Ransom, we'll kill her and find another."
"We are Legion." The hollow man said. "Not skeleton Jack."
"What mate?" Big Jack said, stepping up next to his boss Greedy Cowl, he was about waist high on Greedy.
The Gaunt man responded with a forward kick, planting a foot directly on Big Jack's face. Only he was still standing where he'd been. "We," Both copies of him said becoming four, "Are Legion."
Before the Miserly men knew what hit them, there was sixteen copies of the man, and all of them pulled revolvers out. For a moment it seemed he was at his limit, and everyone sprang into action.
Big Jack on the ground took two in the chest and one in the head. Greedy cowl returned fire on the one that killed his least important man, spraying the gaunt man's brains across another copy of him, and then gunning that one down too.
Least, the Blacksmith's Daughter, had the wisdom of old age to sense the impending trouble. She managed to land a blow on one of the Legion with a hammer, but she too was quickly shot to death in cold blood. The Legion she had damaged then shot itself in the head and another of them ripped out a couple of fresh copies.
Control Azure, Greedy Cowls step-nephew, caught a bullet in the knee as he dived for cover, and started screaming for his uncle to save him. "Cowardly child." The Legion who shot him taunted firing more shots his way but not landing any.
Merlin the Spicy immediately dropped to the ground shouting, "Please don't kill me, they forced me join them! I don't wanna kidnap little girls! I just wanted to rob banks and trains, not kidnap!"
Tired Fuck, the insomniac devil worshiping cocaine addict clown charged forward and was caught in the throat by a pair of Legion's linked arms. When he hit the ground they didn't bother to shoot him, because he was immediately knocked unconscious, and he looked so peaceful when he slept.
Harridan the Harlot had had a hand on her handy handgun the instant the gaunt man had said "That's my daughter you got there," before this whole shitshow began. She popped off four shots, killing two Legion, and wounding two more before Legion took her down. The wounded ones killed themselves, and the remainder replicated back to sixteen almost like it never happened.
The Breaker, finally another actual super on the team other than Greedy Cowl. The bullets bounced off him from Legion's many revolvers, and six of them changed tactics. They pulled knives and rushed in to stab at the bulky man, but he wouldn't go down easy. Though every time he broke one's neck another popped out immediately to replace it, like some horrific game of murder-a-mole.
The Cook, she was innocent in all this. She'd been feeding and tending to Claire for the whole week she'd been missing, but she also served food to and tended to the Miserly Men for a long time before that. Legion was going to leave her fate to his precious daughter to decide, but he saw the cook protecting Claire with her body, and decided then and there that she should live.
The Barbarian was another of the supers on the team, he was a monk with the ability to dodge bullets, and his skills were put to the absolute test. Initially he was easily able to dodge the incoming fire, and even helped to drag Control Azure into complete cover inside a thick Iron safe in their hideout before heading back out into the hail of bullets to try to help the Breaker, but as his friends died around him the hail of bullets got too thick, and he caught one in the calf, then the thigh, then the eye. Then a dozen more because he'd been a slippy one to hit and Legion was mad and had plenty of ammo.
The Houndmaster was another super powered prick, but not a particularly resistant to bullets super powered prick. He never had a chance to blow his whistle and summon the dogs, and for that Legion was glad. He'd done some terrible things, but he hadn't yet sunk to the horrible low of mass dog murderer.
The last person who had joined Greedy Cowl's Miserly men was A Regular Englishman. When all the hubbub broke out he said, "I dare say!" And then was promptly shot in the face.
With six of Legion stabbing away at the Breaker, making little nicks in his skin here and there with their reckless full bodied attacks, that left ten of legion's bodies there for other business. Two went to talk to The Cook and Claire, and another eight turned to handle Greedy Cowl more personally. They all cracked their necks and pulled out brass knuckles. He might be the fastest sharpest gun around, but there was no way he'd be able to outgun and out fight eight of Legion's bodies.
The eight all surged as one, and four hit the ground before they could start swinging at Greedy Cowl. They were replaced quickly, two of the remaining Legion stepped back to replicate more as needed, refilling the ranks faster than Greedy could empty and reload his gun. Those on the Breaker guided him into Greedy Cowl. They had blinded one eye and been trying for the other. Legion could easily control where the big man walked now as he stabbed and pushed and kicked him from all different directions.
As the Breaker stumbled into Greedy Cowls fight, and Greedy knew his end was at hand for he couldn't dodge this stumbling fool and six attacker of his own. He made a cruel decision and aimed a shot at his kidnapping victim. He fired directly at Claire. If this Legion bastard was going to kill his whole gang, he was going to take everything from him, but The Cook was still shielding the little girl because Legion was terrifying and she wasn't about to give Claire to him, even if he was claiming that she was somehow his daughter.
"Stop this rampant violence Citizens!" A heroic voice called from the entry of the dark warehouse lair of the Miserly Men.
It was Citizen Justice. A hammer wielding nigh invincible superhero, so long as what he thought he was doing was Just. If you could sow some doubt in him, his powers waned, and he could be injured. He and Legion had tangled a few times in the last couple of years, and fought together as a team back when Legion was Mr Many, and on the side of good. Neither of them ever really came away from their brawls feeling like the winner, exactly.
He'd shouted before he looked, again. "Ferdinand, Nice to see you ol' friend, a little busy at the moment though, if you don't mind." Three Legions grappled Greedy Cowl after The Breaker trampled over him. A fourth Legion stole Greedy's boot gun and shot him in the brain with it. Dead.
A Legion was tending the wound in the Cook as best he could, but a shot in the middle of the upper chest, pretty fatal most of the time. Mostly he was comforting her, telling her she had done well. The other one over there had checked over his child, made sure she wasn't physically injured. Then he'd taken his jacket off and tossed it over the child's head. She'd already seen too much and didn't need to see anymore. She seemed pretty well in shock.
"Citizen Justice, help me, he's gonna murder me." The Breaker begged, trying to fight off the horde of Legion attacking him.
"Frank, I don't want to fight you again. Stop dammit, stop stabbing that criminal!" Citizen Justice's hammer started to Glow, and Legion knew he only had a moment left to finish the job on The breaker, and everyone responsible for kidnapping his daughter would be dead. A few people who were innocent through incompetence or simply having been press ganged were still alive, but Legion didn't kill innocents, at least not if he could help it.
A loud crack rang out from behind Citizen Justice. And a moment later the Breaker collapsed into a pool of blood. "Elephant gun." Two of the Legion said, one in the ear of The Breaker as the blood left his brain and he drew his last breath, and the other who had walked closer to Citizen Justice so as to not have to shout.
"You didn't have to kill him Frank," Citizen Justice said, "Come my friend, you can stop this whole Legion thing, come back to us, we can talk it out over cigars and whiskey. I'm sure we can get one of the wealthier members to fund enough for all of you, we can figure out a way to make it right."
All of the Legions laughed, but only the one closest to Citizen Justice spoke. "No... I don't think so Ferd. Sorry about the mess. They killed far more of me than you ever do, but that's fine, cause no one kills as many of me as I do." All of them but the one talking pulled single shot guns from their jackets and shot themselves in the head with them. The one that had been speaking did all but pull the trigger.
"Frank, please. Don't do this, I know it takes from you." Citizen Justice pleaded. "Why, why even do this?"
"The little girl, Ferd, she's me and Anne's daughter. And since Anne died in childbirth after that nasty affair up in multi town... well I guess I do still have something of myself I could lose." The Legion tried to pull the trigger but Citizen Justice was too fast, and stopped him. "Listen, take care of my kid would you. I don't wanna have to do this all over again next time."
And then, even though Citizen Justice had stopped this body from shooting itself, the Elephant gun fired again from off in the distance, and the man he'd stopped from killing himself was gone.
"God fucking dammit Frank..."

Spook The Holiday Season

Imagine the spooky atmosphere of Halloween blending with the warmth and cheer of Christmas. Here's an extended concept for this unique holiday fusion:
  1. Decorations:
    • Jack-o'-lanterns with Santa hats and candy canes.
    • Black and orange Christmas trees adorned with ghostly ornaments and spiderweb garlands.
    • Wreaths made of black feathers, pumpkins, and tiny skulls.
  2. Costumes:
    • Elves dressed as witches with pointy hats and broomsticks.
    • Santa Claus with a skeleton mask and carrying a sack of treats and tricks.
    • Reindeer with vampire fangs and bat wings.
  3. Food and Treats:
    • Pumpkin spice cookies shaped like Christmas trees.
    • Candy corn-colored candy canes.
    • Roast turkey with a side of caramel apples.
    • Hot cocoa with a hint of cinnamon and ghost-shaped marshmallows.
  4. Activities:
    • Haunted sleigh rides through a winter wonderland filled with friendly ghosts.
    • Trick-or-treating in Christmas-themed costumes, collecting candy and small presents.
    • Decorating gingerbread houses with spooky designs like haunted mansions or graveyards.
    • Watching classic horror movies while snuggled under Christmas blankets.
  5. Music:
    • Creepy carols like "Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly (and Cobwebs)" or "Silent Fright."
    • Spooky remixes of traditional Christmas songs with eerie sound effects.
  6. Traditions:
    • Leaving out cookies and "boo" berry pie for Santa Claus, along with a glass of blood-red punch.
    • Exchanging gifts wrapped in black and orange paper with ghostly ribbons.
    • Telling ghost stories by the fireplace while waiting for Santa's arrival.
  7. Spirit of the Season:
    • Embracing the blend of frights and delights, encouraging kindness and fun scares.
    • Celebrating the magic of both holidays, where darkness meets light, and fear meets joy.
What do you think of this extended Hallowmas concept? Any additions or tweaks you'd make?

Grm Reaper Tree Topper

Creating a Grim Reaper tree topper for Hallowmas can add a spooky yet festive touch to your holiday decor. Here's a DIY guide to help you make one:
Materials Needed:
  1. Black fabric or felt
  2. Styrofoam or cardboard cone (for the base)
  3. Black robe or fabric scraps
  4. Scissors
  5. Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  6. Black craft wire
  7. Black paint or marker
  8. Small plastic skull or skull-shaped ornament
  9. Optional: black feather boa, fake spider webs, small LED lights
Steps:
  1. Prepare the Base:
    • Cut the black fabric or felt into a square large enough to cover the Styrofoam or cardboard cone.
    • Wrap the fabric around the cone, securing it with hot glue to create the Grim Reaper's robe.
  2. Create the Hood:
    • Cut a piece of black fabric or robe to create the hood. It should be large enough to cover the top of the cone and drape over like a hood.
    • Attach the hood to the top of the cone using hot glue, leaving the front open to reveal the face later.
  3. Form the Grim Reaper's Face:
    • Use black craft wire to create the Grim Reaper's skeletal face. Shape the wire into a skull-like form with eye sockets, a nose, and a mouth.
    • Attach the wire face to the front of the hood using hot glue, ensuring it stays in place securely.
  4. Add Details:
    • Paint or draw details on the wire face using black paint or marker, such as hollow eye sockets and a sinister grin.
    • Attach a small plastic skull or a skull-shaped ornament to the center of the face using hot glue.
  5. Optional Enhancements:
    • Wrap a black feather boa around the base of the cone to create a flowing robe effect.
    • Add fake spider webs or small LED lights to the Grim Reaper's hood for extra eerie ambiance.
  6. Place on Top of the Tree:
    • Once the Grim Reaper tree topper is complete, carefully place it on top of your Christmas tree, ensuring it is balanced and secure.
Your DIY Grim Reaper tree topper is now ready to cast a shadowy spell over your Hallowmas festivities, blending the macabre charm of Halloween with the festive spirit of Christmas.

The Crooked Man murdered my family. Now he has awoken again [part 1] : nosleep (reddit.com)
I grabbed Iris and pulled her toward the car. She stood like a statue, resistant and unmoving.
“Iris, we need to go!” I hissed. She seemed to wake up then, looking at me. Then she looked past me, her eyes glancing up and widening with horror. I turned, seeing the Crooked Man peering down from the upstairs window, his tophat balanced on his alien skull, a grin of sadistic glee marring his face.
“We need to leave,” I repeated, pulling her. She came willingly. We stumbled away from the corpse of Ben. The Crooked Man’s black eyes followed us like cameras.
I got her in the car and peeled out of there. Every time I closed my eyes, though, even just to blink, I would catch a glimpse of the Crooked Man’s smiling visage.
***
“Where are we going?” Iris called. “We need to call the cops! My phone is upstairs on the floor somewhere.”
“The cops aren’t going to help us,” I said. “That thing isn’t human. It can go wherever it wants, apparently. You think a police station would protect us? The cops would leave for a few minutes and come back to find us dead. We need to end this. We need to go to the abandoned factory.”
“The… abandoned factory?” Iris asked, confused. I told her the story, everything that had happened up to that point, even the vision of my grandmother.
“That’s fucking nuts,” Iris muttered. “This whole thing is crazy. There’s no way there’s actually such a thing as a Crooked Man. Shit like that doesn’t happen in real life. It’s gotta be a serial killer in some sort of weird costume.”
“You know it’s not,” I answered. “You saw that thing. That’s no mask.” I sped on the highway at 100 miles an hour toward Union, toward the abandoned factory where this had all started so many years ago.
***
As we pulled into the cracked lot surrounding the old, run-down building, a sense of overwhelming dread crashed through my chest. I felt like I was stuck in some cyclical nightmare from which it was impossible to wake up. I pulled out a cigarette and lighter from my cupholder and lit it. Iris gave me a strange look.
“This is probably my last cigarette,” I said. “Might as well enjoy it.” Iris didn’t say anything, her dilated eyes simply flicking around randomly. She looked like she was still partially in shock. Slowly, she got out of the car, limping across the parking lot by my side.
“I hurt my ankle when I jumped from the window,” she said. “I don’t think I’m going to be doing much running. It feels swollen.”
“I’m just glad you still have the .45,” I said. “Though I wish you had grabbed the AR.” She shook her head.
“Ben shot that thing with a 10-gauge shotgun in the chest. With a slug,” she said. “It didn’t work. The pistol might slow it down, but it’s not going to kill it. We need to find another way.” I remembered the graffiti in the factory: “Destroy it with fire! SAVE your soul.”
We found a threshold in the back where the door was totally knocked off the hinges. It lay on top of crunching shards of glass and layers of thick dust. Old rectangular tables were still nailed into the wooden floor, their surfaces pockmarked and covered in grime. Most of the windows had giant, spiderwebbing cracks running through the glass, though some were just smashed entirely.
I had never been here, but as I walked further in, I realized it was exactly the same as I had seen in my vision with my grandmother. Even the same graffiti was there. “DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU!” was splayed across the wall in giant letters.
“Fuck, this place is creepy,” Iris whispered. She held the Ruger clenched tightly in her hand, her knuckles white. “Where do we go?”
“I’m… not sure,” I said. “I think we’re supposed to burn something. Maybe we should just burn down the whole factory.” Iris gave me a funny look.
“That’s your plan? Lighting an abandoned building on fire?” she asked with an expression of grave concern.
“Let’s look around,” I said. “Maybe we’re supposed to find something.” We descended deeper into the factory, through more identical rooms that looked like they were from the Apocalypse.
At the end, I found old, concrete steps leading down into the pitch-black basement.
***
I pulled out my cell phone, shining the LED light down the steps. Iris gave me a worried look.
“Let’s go,” I whispered grimly. I felt watched here, even more than at Iris’ house. I knew the Crooked Man was near, biding his time, playing with his food like a cat with a mouse.
The steps led into a concrete boiler room with ancient, rusted machinery still welded into the floor. All over the dark walls, someone had spraypainted pictures of extended, contorted arms and limbs with fingers like talons. There was a smell down here, too- a smell like rotting bodies.
As we got to the center, I heard crying behind us. I turned to see my grandmother, pale and ghostly, crying into her hands.
“Grandma?” I whispered. Iris looked at me, confused.
“Who are you talking to?” she asked. I shook my head. My grandmother looked up at me, fresh tears in her ghostly eyes.
“Jack, you need to burn it,” my grandmother said with a quaver in her voice. “The corpse of the owner, the one who killed us all- it’s hidden in the surge pump. We came together to end it, to end the deaths, but it didn’t stop it. Somehow, he’s still connected to this world through that body. It’s been in there, festering like an open wound for who knows how long…”
I looked at the surge pump across the room. Iris could apparently neither see nor hear my grandmother.
“It’s in there,” I murmured, pointing at the pump. “We need to burn the body hidden in there.” The surge pump had valves and a giant wheel at the end. It was a horizontal cylinder that looked just big enough to stuff a man’s body into. The rusted pipes grew smaller as they crawled up the wall. I put my hands on the rusted wheel and turned. It looked like something from a submarine door.
With a squeal of tortured metal, the surge pump began opening. It was difficult going. Iris came and put her small body behind it, and I felt it turning faster.
“How are we going to burn it, though?” I asked myself, grunting through the effort. Looking behind the surge pump, I found the answer.
A fairly fresh dead body lay there hidden under the metal of the surge pump, holding a small can of gasoline. It looked like a young man in his 20s with dark hair and tanned skin. His arms and legs had been ripped off, and now only a decomposing torso and head remained.
“Another victim of the Crooked Man?” Iris asked. “He was so close…” I wondered, at that moment, how many others had been drawn here, how many victims the Crooked Man was hunting. I grabbed the gasoline. I heard a skittering of feet behind us. Iris backpedaled and gave a horrified scream.
In terror, I looked behind us and saw the Crooked Man, flanked by the transformed bodies of seven children. Their arms and legs had all grown inhumanly long, bending in strange places like crooked stalks. Their faces had become like the Crooked Man’s, their eyes black and lips blue, their teeth long and dark, their movements jerky and eerie.
Iris raised the Ruger. In that concrete tomb, the gunshots reverberated like exploding missiles, deafening me. With waves of adrenaline shaking every muscle in my body, I swung the end of the surge pump open.
Stuffed into the narrow metal steel tube, I saw a mummified corpse covered in tattered rags. Its grinning skull was a mass of cobwebs and dead insects. I unscrewed and overturned the gas can, then pushed it quickly into the tunnel. It just fit through the narrow enclosure.
The gunshots ended as abruptly as they had started. Beside me, Iris was still frantically pulling the trigger, her face a broken mask of shell-shock. I dared not look back as I pulled the lighter out and flicked it. With my ears ringing from the gunshots still, I couldn’t hear a thing, though the ringing had started to slowly fade.
A wave of cold, dead flesh crashed into my back. I went flying forward. Next to me, Iris threw the empty pistol at the nearest of the transformed children. It smacked the boy in the head with a dull crack, but his black, lidless eyes never looked away.
As I fell, the lighter touched the edge of the surge pump. A few drops of gas ignited, sizzling and dripping in liquid flames. After what felt like an eternal moment, the rest of it lit up with a whump and a flash of burning heat.
The Crooked Man started wailing, a tortured, diseased wailing that seemed like it had the voices of many screaming children mixed in with it. I knocked hard to the ground, slamming my head against the concrete floor. Four of the children used their bent, stick-like arms to gingerly pull the burning mummy out of the metal tomb, their claws talons of fingers grabbing the burning flesh without hesitation. On the other side of the room, the form of the Crooked Man started to blacken and drip as his mummy did the same.
Next to me, a transformed girl in blood-stained rags held Iris’ arms tightly behind her back. Iris gave a scream of pain. I saw the demonic girl biting at Iris’ neck and shoulders over and over with her long, black teeth, ripping off strips of bloody skin and muscle between her blue, dead lips. She grinned as she bit and chewed. Iris struggled like a woman being burned alive, but the superhuman strength of the girl held Iris’ wrists pinned together behind her back with an iron grip.
With the sound of hissing flames and shrieking echoing all around me, I watched as the children laid the burning body of the Crooked Man gingerly on the concrete floor. One by one, they laid down on it, smothering the fire with their own pale bodies.
The flames continued to whip and flicker for a long moment. The children’s bodies caught on fire, their white skin blackening and cooking. Even as they burned, though, the fire on the Crooked Man’s body had started to die down, and the mummified corpse wasn’t even most of the way burned yet.
“No!” I wailed, a sense of deep loss ripping its way through my heart. I saw Iris, too, her entire body covered in blood, her white clothes turned ruby-red with blood and gore. She had stopped screaming and struggling by this point, even as the girl leaned forward and ripped her left ear off with her predatory teeth. The flesh gave a sickening tearing sound as it came off. Iris’ eyes rolled up in her head, showing only the whites as her teeth chattered. The demonic girl laughed and pushed the limp form of Iris forward. Her still body spurted blood from dozens of deep gashes. Her legs and arms twitched, as if she were seizing.
I found myself alone with these abominations. The Crooked Man’s screaming stopped suddenly. He stepped forward, his bleached-white skin blackened and peeling now. His clothes had nearly burned off, and his tophat stood as a smoldering pile of ashes. Yet he still moved fast, seeming to disappear and reappear closer and closer, his misshapen legs jerkily skittering to the left and right in rhythmic cracks.
Then he was standing over me, a pillar of burnt skin and insanity. With his sharp fingers, he reached down and grabbed me. I blacked out at that moment, and merciful oblivion took over my mind.
***
I don’t remember much of the next couple months. I woke up in some strange, otherworldly city where the sky rained fire and corpses hung from lampposts all down the street. Empty skyscrapers filled with skeletons and spiderwebs stretched around me, seemingly forever. I could see no end to the city in any direction, even from the top of the highest buildings. The world there was always dark, the sky always black and cloudless as drops of burning flame fell from it, searing me whenever I tried to go outside.
I wandered there constantly, the Crooked Man always behind me. As I wasted away in that land of shadows, he grew stronger, his body healing slowly. I felt something vital and deep within my heart drained more and more, day by day, until I was no more than a walking skeleton clad in rags, hopeless and insane.
After what felt like an eternity of endless nights in that place, waking up to see the Crooked Man grinning over me, it abruptly changed. One day, I woke up at the edge of some woods in a light drizzle, the rain soaking my threadbare clothes. My emaciated body shivered constantly.
I started crawling out to find help. With the last of my strength, I pushed myself off the ground.
Behind me, I heard a gurgling voice ringing out from every tree.
“I’ll be with you until the end, Jack. I need you just as you need me. For the more who know my story, the more fear will spread, and I will be able to come into their homes next.
“For this, you must live. But I will always be watching you, and soon, we will be reunited. To me, you must always return.”
***
A driver found me wandering the roads, shellshocked and half-mad, about twenty minutes later. The police came, surprised to see me still alive. Apparently, I had been missing for over two months. They had found the bodies of Iris and Ben, and assumed that I had been abducted and killed by the same serial killer. I tried to explain the true story over and over to anyone who would listen, but they simply gave me sickening looks of pity and ordered an involuntary commitment to a psych ward.
After a few days in the psych ward, they reluctantly released me. No one believed a word I had said. The cops thought it was some sort of mass psychosis, I’m sure, some urban legend that delusional idiots had come to believe was real.
But I know it was real. I know my days are numbered. It might look like a suicide or a murder or an accident, but, in the end, the Crooked Man always comes back and takes what’s his.

2024.05.09 20:03 DefiantYesterday4806 Sequelitis Never Dies: A Few Plot Threads For A Sequel Series

My main sequel premise are three time periods, each containing what's essentially a limited series or something like that.
The first will be what you might call the aftermath of Nassau. Piracy in Nassau was a result of many factors, such as poor wages due to too much slavery, the end of a big war that taught many people how to sail then dropped them off in the Caribbean with nothing to do, as well as civilization was still establishing itself. There was almost a philosophical premise to what Nassau represented. Charles Vane is probably the purest example of this, but he identified Billy Bones as one of the "good" ones.
After Nassau, piracy was dirtier, greedier, more on the down low, bloodier. Piracy was supposed to have "ended", or the age of pirates ended by 1730. So imagining secret pirates after that using the Black Sails characters is fun.
I like the idea of three pirate crews during this period.
1) Billy Bones, who is now an anti-idealist. They learn that mercy and civilized piracy aren't possible anymore. Sometimes you have to slaughter a ship just because you can't let word get out that piracy is even happening. This leads to an overall mystery among civilized people. A kind of rumor that pirates are out there, but no one knows if it's true or if say a storm or something would be responsible for missing ships. Billy isn't bloodthirsty, but he's become cynically pragmatic, and gritty. He's also obsessed with Flint's treasure, which he sees as owed to men like him who were let down by Silver and Flint.
2) Long John Silver.
-some backstory-
Historically, Woodes Rogers returns to Nassau and basically drives out what in the show is Max and Featherstone. I'd like for Max to end up taking over Mrs. Guthrie's business, the Guthrie family "side" businesses in Philadelphia. While Rogers succeeded and Max failed, she proved herself thoroughly to Mrs. Guthrie in the meantime.
Jack Rackham and Anne die shortly after the final scene of the show, a few months later being captured and hung in Jamaica. Anne claimed to be pregnant. I would like to think this produced a son. Let's say he ends up as an orphan, escapes to St. Croix, and is adopted by a Danish merchant. He becomes Johann Lavien, but goes by Jack. At some point he meets up with Max and gets funded into Max's venture she has cooked up with...
Silver.
So, Max and Silver (and Madi) spend the 1730s doing a couple things. One, the Guthrie merchant network integrates old pirates loyal to Silver. They operate a shadow piracy. Mostly involving high-risk transportation through enemy waters, but this justifies armed ships and accounting issues. They can't fence too many goods, they're maintaining a legitimate face. So the rule is that you can hunt if the prize is especially and rarely valuable.
They also fund early abolitionist newsletters produced by certain Quakers. Or whatever version of that is appropriate for 1730s, maybe host salons.
Silver ends up as cook on one of these ships. He's the shadow admiral of the fleet and goes places where he can discreetly meet and negotiate things. Here he takes on the name "barbecue". At some point they're boarded by a zealous governor looking for the "Pirate King Long John Silver" as memory of Nassau hasn't faded. However, when he learns the only John Silver on the ship is the short cook, he concludes that the prevailing opinion that Long John Silver is just a myth must be correct. Here is when the memory of Long John Silver begins to fade from history. And here we have actual secret pirates.
This fuels the situation faced by Billy Bones types. This rumor of piracy and no one knowing the scale of it or not.
Silver, Madi and Max are still working toward a freer world, but they're building up the wealth and influence to make a difference.
3) Johann Lavien AKA "Jack Rackham's Ghost".
Here the young Johann AKA Jack takes his father's Jolly Roger and sales around as a brash young new generation of pirate. In the vein of Billy Bones, but less cautious.
I like the idea that his crew meets its end on the famous "Dead Man's Chest" island, and the incident becomes the basis for the "Fifteen men on a dead man's chest" song.
Lavien escapes his pirate career with just enough wealth to start a plantation and fool the mother of Rachel Faucette. This woman being the mother (by another man, later) of Alexander Hamilton. There's a potential plotline of this other man, James Hamilton, being a relation distantly to Thomas Hamilton. James McGraw as a mentor to both men is appealing.
With this as the set up, the treasure on Skeleton island keeps coming up. Flint refuses repeatedly to reveal it. Bones is obsessed, but Silver keeps a keen eye on Flint (who is eventually released once the penal colony is disbanded).
I imagine a scene after Jack's crew's fate in an infamous pirate pub where the band first reveals their "fifteen men on a dead man's chest" summing the events of the first limited series, where Silver and Billy Bones eye each other from opposite ends of the room.
In the second series, it's Treasure Island. However, with a lot more emphasis on Silver's POV. He works hard to prevent actual pirates from joining the Hispanola because he doesn't trust them, and hopes his plan of quietly mutinying as they nearly are returned to England works. He isn't lying when he says he wants to use the wealth to join Parliament. Secretly, Jim Hawkins helps Silver escape and was converted to the cause. In this series, we also have Benjamin Franklin meeting Silver in England, and it's revealed he knew Max and facilitates a reunion between her adopted child and Silver.
In the third series, Hawkins captains a ship in Silver's secret pirate fleet and they join the American revolution as privateers. They are opposed by Alexander Hamilton's step brother Peter Lavien who is a Tory and descendent of Jack Rackham. Later, when Britain tries to end slavery under William Wilberforce, while the old privateers skip over to the American side to keep the slave trade going, Hawkins manages to corral enough of Silver's old fleet to stay on the British side and support Wilberforce, making the ending of the slave trade possible. Madi lives just barely long enough to see this.
The series ends with Hawkins as a merchant in New York City. He's meeting with members of the Manumission society which is helping out the last of the freed slaves in the state, who were last freed in 1827. Hawkins decides to take Vanderbilt's illegal ferry back down to Manhattan. The authorities block the ferry landing (true story) so he rushes off with the crowd to a new location a mile downriver. As the ferry leaves with Vanderbilt reassuring the crowds and everyone delighted at their little act of nautical naughtiness, Hawkins laughs and belts out "fifteen men on a dead man's chest".
Of course I haven't touched on any of the dialogue. There is ripe opportunity for personal encounters, for self-reflection. For evolution on the cause. For looking back at what the "treasure of Nassau" really meant, how they kept it alive secretly, unknown to authorities and history, until the last of the buccaneers passed.

Opening 1000 Stackeddeck-Cards - a statistical analysis.
So recently i was a little bored and thought why not spend some div on a few Stackeddecks. After opening a few i dropped a "The Price of Devotion" Card and i was very interested in how the Droprates would behave with a thousand Divcards.
According to PoE Overlay the stash of Div-cards for this project is worth roughly 17.6 Divine and i spent maybe 11d in total here.
You can find the interactive graph of this analysis here.
