2024.05.21 19:48 SociallyAwkwardWooki General Issues or Thoughts on Secure Client (AnyConnect)

Hello! I'm looking for feedback from admins who have deployed Secure Client 5.x with AnyConnect module to a wide range of audiences--1k+ users and across Windows, Mac, and Linux. How do you like it? Were there a lot of end user issues?
Background: We are a large higher-ed institution, so BYOD is the norm. Before the pandemic, we were running Cisco ASA with AnyConnect 4.x, but our ASA was too small for the anticipated number of VPN users during the pandemic, so we switched to Palo Alto GlobalProtect. In testing, GlobalProtect worked fine on all my computers, but when we deployed it to the rest of campus, we ran into a lot of end-user issues. The vast majority of these issues were with the user's computers, but we've found that AnyConnect 4.x is more forgiving and would work on a user's computer when GlobalProtect would not. So is the Cisco Secure Client 5.x with the AnyConnect module just as trouble-free (relatively speaking) and forgiving as AnyConnect 4.x?
Thank you for your feedback and time.

2024.05.19 10:41 TheNocturnalDad OctoEverywhere Will Not Install after Firmware update and factory reset

I had previously performed a firmware update, and doing so borked Fluid. So I went and did a factory reset on my K1 Max. After rebooting and recalibrating, it said there was another firmware update available. So I downloaded that, re calibrated the printer, re enabled root/ssh, and proceeded to use the helper script to go through and install what I had before. Everything went fine until I got to OctoEverywhere. This is not the first time I've had issues getting it to install. I tried using the helper script as well as downloading the install manually. Tried deleting all files in the OctoEverywhere folder and tried again, no matter what I get some weird message " Could not build wheels for pillow, which is required to install pyproject.toml-based projects"
This is an error I've never seen before.
Below is what I HOPE is the output that may shine some light on what is going wrong. This is a fresh reset machine, up to date firmware, so I don't understand the problem.

I am on arch linux, in case this is relevant

2024.04.04 00:34 jon101-2 OpenConnect with SSO

Hey All,
I recently switched to OpenSuse Leap KDE from Tumbleweed Gnome. I've really enjoyed the customization that KDE offers. There are only a couple areas that I've been disappointed and one of them is connecting to a Meraki Client VPN using Connections - OpenConnect. With Gnome this worked great right out of the box. KDE seems to have a very customizable interface and it hasn't worked.
Just to be clear on where I'm at when creating a VPN. I go to Connections Select + Select Cisco Anyconnect Compatible VPN (openconnect). I then enter the name, gateway url, select Linux 64bit as the OS and apply the configuration.
When I connect the VPN, it says "No SSO Handler". Which the VPN does use SAML SSO through M365 Entra Applications.
With Gnome, I didn't have any issues as it would open a M365 window automatically and allow authentication.
Any tips on getting the default KDE openconnect vpn client to prompt for SSO? I'm also open to other methods to connect.

2024.03.03 14:32 D-Ribose Installing Real Time Clock on a Rasberry Pi Zero

[ISSUE RESOLVED]

thank you for your support guys. I had to reinstall the operating system due to me messing up some ssh stuff and now it works. the problem also might have been that I didn't add the dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,pcf8523 to the end of the file but somewhere in the middle (don't know if this makes a difference)
Original post:
Hi,
I am following this Guide to install a PCF 8523 Real Time Clock on my Rasberry Pi Zero
my /boot/config.txt has the following lines
original: dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d
new: dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d,i2c-rtc,pcf8523
I then rebooted the device, but despite that the output of sudo i2cdetect -y 1 is still 68 and not UU.
I tried my best to search for this issue, but I can't find any information on it or even know what I am looking at.
Can anyone help please?
Edit 1: Wiring
Edit 2: attempted sudo hwclock --show --verbose
output:
hwclock from util-linux 2.33.1

Trying to open: /dev/rtc0
Trying to open: /dev/rtc

2024.02.07 15:56 SecAbove Global Protect HIP failing to report "no missing updates" in Windows - is it a frequent problem? How to resolve and workarounds?

Hello Experts, few questions about Global Protect,

The fists question if such problem is unavoidable and we should just get used to it:
We have a service desk complaining about random Windows users unable to connect. The GP reporting missing critical patches. Users are updating their computers, but the issue persists even after the outstanding updates are installed. HIP doesn't report this and still reports that there are patches missing. How frequent is this issue? We have had a TAC case open for a long time, but it is not progressing towards finding the root cause. We are using on-prem firewall and GP.

The second question about OPSWAT update:
I have long-term experience with Cisco AnyConnect, where there are two parts: AnyConnect client (with user GUI) and HostScan/FirewallPosture (invisible GUI-less DLL). Now and again, HostScan must be manually updated on the ASA to provide support to the new AV versions.
I read the "HIP Reports missing patch in spite of Windows Machine has latest Patch Installed" . Am I right in to understand that PAN GP OPSWAT DLL is dynamically updated directly from somewhere in https://software.opswat.com ? It is seems like this is the case and confirmed in "What are the approved Antivirus vendors for GlobalProtect HIP objects?"
Does OPSWAT serve any purpose in critical Windows patch updates? Or is it done by communicating with Windows OS?

The last question is whether patch discovery can be improved or augmented:
Lastly, I read briefly on Reddit that Global Protect can be integrated with patch management products as an alternative to pulling it from OPSWAT. But unable to see the list of supported products and integration examples. It would be nice to give users a better remediation wizard and progress information. Microsoft Intune CompPortal app compliance status comes to mind. But there seems to be no native option to discover missing critical patches. And this will require custom scripting as in this MVP blog example "Using update status as part of the compliance of Windows devices"

2024.01.18 04:23 w0nd3r3r2 Salvaging Cisco ASA5525-X

Reposting from Cisco group....
I got a hand me down Cisco ASA5525-X and decided to make it work for my home network.
Not sure of the history on this so I don't know where to start. I cant get any dhcp response from the management port. But the console communication works. It doesn't pick or assign address on any of the ports so guessing it was either part of a paifallback or just wiped (?) before I got it. I tried a couple of things from random google reads but have not had much luck so far ...
The disk0 has a few files on it:

I tried the standard factory reset and from rommon tried setting boot/asdm using existing files. It finishes with no error, reboots just fine but then starts with no IP assigned on management port.....
I cant get past it, not sure what to try next .....
Last resort is installing OPNSENSE on this which btw seems to run really nice but I'd like to sample the commercial grade setup once :)

2024.01.14 19:24 kotogames Once upon a Dungeon II - Koto Games - traditional roguelike with open world

Hello games!
My name is Tomasz, I'd like to introduce you my indie game: Once upon a Dungeon II
Links: Steam (DEMO AVAILABLE) Trailer Twitter
Platforms: Windows, Linux
Release date: 19.01.2024
I develop it in my spare time and it took me five years to reach a solid version that is going be released in Early Access on Steam next week.
The game is a traditional roguelike game with strong RPG elements and a scent of Slavic mythology.
It features open world, turned-based combat, hack/slash oriented gameplay and 2D cartoon graphics with dynamic lighting. There are also cut scenes in game milestone events. Game can be played however the player wishes:
- you can talk to NPCs, obtain quests, progress through the open world, descend to a dungeon from time to time. Quests differ in style and difficulty and reveal the story behind the game.
- however, if are just looking for pure fighting experience, you are in the right place - the game can be finished without making a single quest (although it's harder as you miss exp from quests and fun from them).
There are some cool in game mechanics like crafting panel, passive/active abilities and the possibility to have an ally helping to fight.
The demo is available on Steam and full Early Access release is on December 19.01.2024.
So, grab it today and wishlist the game to get notified once it's released!

2024.01.13 19:22 Aryanciskalipy7 Cisco Anyconnect

Hi folks, I am facing an issue that I can not handle it. I have two Linux servers, one on Microsoft Azure and another one on Ultrahost, I have configured Cisco anyconnect server on both servers with same configuration and TCP port 80, both servers location are Germany, I can connect to the server on Azure via cisco anyconnect from Canada and also my friend from IRAN with both cellular operators A & B, but the server on Ultrahost, I can connect from Canada, my friends with cellular operator A also can connect but cellular operator B can not connect, I ping the IP of server on Ultrahost with cellular operator B and get reply, also checked with TCP traceroute and got connection from Ultrahost IP and port 80. What's wrong? Any suggestions? Thank you

2023.11.25 18:54 deeadmann VPN inside Crostini?

Hi all,
I need to setup Cisco AnyConnect VPN inside Crostini. I've tried reading these https://www.reddit.com/Crostini/comments/8nt9js/connect_to_vpn_from_the_linux_containe and https://support.google.com/pixelbook/thread/10553792/vpn-does-not-work-with-linux-on-chromeos-75?hl=en but it did not help. If I set the AnyConnect (or OpenConnect) Chrome app, the VPN works fine on ChromeOS side, but if I do ssh on my server it fails to resolve the servers name (because of VPN). In the end, I've managed to make it work by installing openconnect and running the VPN from the Linux terminal. But I was wondering if any of you know a better solution...

Thanks!

I don't have much experience with Linux, so hopefully you can help me. I am using Fedora 39 and Cisco AnyConnect version 4.10.07061. When I put in the vpn address and press the connect button, I get the error message:
You are missing the required libraries for the authentication method you requested.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

2023.10.29 06:43 Astraltraumagarden My internet is very spotty only on MacOS inside my house?

I have a Linux, and me and my girlfriend each have a MacOS. On the MacOSes, the internet keeps dropping, and then it can't load anything. On Linux, it works a little slower than expected, but it's fine, really. I have Comcast Xfinity 1GB plan with an XB7 router. The internet works fine when I am at my University or a Cafe, never drops. I thought there was a socket filter due to Cisco's AnyConnect which tried reconnecting every time, but even after I removed it, it's still struggling to connect. I have work, and I have to study for (ironically) CCNA, and I can't figure out what's happening. I combed wireshark, and I see nothing (and for some reason, the drop frequency reduces when you try to observe it -_-). I am lost. I am genuinely lost.

2023.10.18 17:55 Gyerfry Error while installing Moonraker on Android with KIAUH

I'm using this guide to install everything. So, running Debian on a rooted Android. It defaults to the "buster" distribution suite and armhf architecture.
This is the error that pops up when I try to install Moonraker. It keeps going past it, but then seems to hang on another installation later. Anyone know what's up with this? Zlib is supposedly installed.

2023.09.29 21:17 barefootman24 How can I segment two networks/interfaces in Debian based VM, namespaces or something else?

Posted on Networking and they flagged it as Home (it's not) but here we go.
Asked here as well but got no response: https://superuser.com/questions/1810410/how-can-i-segment-two-networks-interfaces-in-debian-based-vm-namespaces-or-some
Copying the question to good ol' reddit.
Background information: I have a Windows 10 (soon to be 11) work laptop with VMware Workstation Pro 17. This laptop is connected to my home network via Ethernet and connects to my work network via Cisco AnyConnect VPN. I have a Debian based VM that I added two network interfaces to through VMware workstation (one is NAT and the other is bridged). eth0 is NAT and it successfully connects and allows me to reach devices on my work network and the internet (its IP is in the range of the VMware network adapter on the host machine); eth1 is bridged and it successfully connects and has an IP in my home network space and I can reach the internet (and not get blocked by work firewalls and such).
Goal: I would like to configure my VM to default to using eth1 (work blocks access to my personal website where I have notes and such). However, there are still many instances when I need to run tools that can reach work sites and resources so I'd like to have an option to run tools from an environment that uses eth0. Rather than manually updating /etc/hosts/ or adding manual routes, the concept of network namespaces seemed perfect for my scenario so I attempted to create a network namespace for any work related traffic to use.
What I have tried: I tried several different guides for setting up namespaces (https://josephmuia.ca/2018-05-16-net-namespaces-veth-nat/); this one was particularly helpful. However, I think I may be missing something as I run into seemingly two problems:
When I use veth to connect the network namespace I was able to successfully get the separate network namespace to reach the internet and my work network, but the default/root namespace was still defaulting to the eth0. So I tried deleting the default route for eth0 (that broke network access in the new namespace) and I tried changing the metric to be lower on the default route for eth1 (so that it had priority) but this also broke access in the network namespace.
I tried to move eth0 directly into the network namespace rather than use virtual-eth pairs but I can't seem to get the networking stack working, added routes, iptables looks fine in the namespace, but DHCP won't assign an IP and if I assign it manually it still doesn't want to work.
Here is some more details on the commands run. For configuring the namespace:
ip netns add ns ip netns exec ns ip link set lo up ip link add veth-default type veth peer name veth-ns ip link set veth-ns netns ns ip addr add 10.0.3.1/24 dev veth-default ip netns exec ns ip addr add 10.0.3.2/24 dev veth-ns ip link set veth-default up ip netns exec ns ip link set veth-ns up echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward iptables -A FORWARD -o eth0 -i veth-default -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o veth-default -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.0.3.2/24 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE ip netns exec ns ip route add default via 10.0.3.1
Above worked well at first but, as mentioned, changing the routes in my default namespace broke it and I have two default routes listed when running ip route
default via 192.168.109.2 dev eth0 proto dhcp src 192.168.109.128 metric 100 default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth1 proto dhcp src 192.168.1.36 metric 101 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.36 metric 101 192.168.109.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.109.128 metric 100
and when I removed the first route and added it back with metric 102, it broke the namespace (also it eventually got re-added with metric 100 and there were 3 default routes).
When I configured the namespace without veth, this is what I used:
ip netns add ns ip link set dev eth0 netns ns ip netns exec ns ip link set dev lo up ip netns exec ns ip link set dev eth0 up Then INSIDE the namespace route add default gw 192.168.109.2 (tried .1 and .2 here) also removed that route and tried adding it with ip route ip route add default via 192.168.109.2 dev eth0
Haven't used namespaces before and my networking knowledge is more high level (haven't set up routing on Linux like this before) so if anyone wants to take a shot at helping me reach my goal it would be much appreciated. Or if there is a way to do this with a proxy/proxychains that's easier than namespaces maybe that is the best option, but I feel like I am so close!
