Parental hardship letter requesting financial aid

Girlfriend and I have been together for 8 months now I adore and love her to death and would be willing to do just about anything for her and her family + friends. Sadly the last five months of my life I’ve encountered hardships completely out of my control and have gotten knocked down over and over again. From losing two jobs cause of two car engines blowing up on me, parents divorcing and even to my cousin taking his own life. Recently I’ve been stuck with my gf for the last month or so tryna find a job close to my house I can walk to till I can pull out a loan for a vehicle. Now I’m in a place where even I find it hard to connect with my gf. I try so hard even through these financial struggles to put her first or still take her out for dinner and clean around her apartment and mine as well even tho the mess is normally coming from her and leave her notes and have tried showing valiant effort in even helping her friends and family when they are around with things. My girlfriend has always been a person to where she can never really find interest in things she’s never had a hobby or anything interest her now that I think about even the thought of me trying to show her something new makes her upset and leads to a fit, most recently Parts unknown by Anthony Bourdain which I thought she’d enjoy for her love of food and travel and sadly now even conversation with me seems like a task that she can not do without looking down at her phone and going on tik tok or instantly mentally checking out on the nearest speckle on dust on the wall. It’s made me want a lot of space and alone time recently which I’m all honesty I feel bad for feeling this way especially when she asks me “do you like me still?” After I got somewhat annoyed at her refusal to put our phones down and finish our conversation we were having. Granted I understand the importance of alone time and for her as well I know she can feel the same so I’ve offered many times to give her space for the day and she refuses to let me to and almost gets upset. I feel severely neglected and I barely feel like I’m dating my girlfriend anymore and it’s starting to exhaust me. I’ve brought up similar talking points as this before which have led to her looking at me like I’m stupid for feeling any bit of neglect and also brought up how she is overly rude over little things such as throwing a fit over her sister wanting to eat at a restaurant my gf has never been to before for her graduation dinner and when I call her out since the beginning of the relationship she has always gotten angry and upset and tells me how I’m wrong and I’m starting to feel like it’s all my fault when at times I know it objectively isn’t and I’ve worked hard on the old cliche of happy wife happy life which is starting to exhaust me and I truly feel confused and wrong for wanting space and wanting change from her for so long now with her not making any sort of effort. I understand neither of us are emotionally mature as we will be one day but with her I feel exhausted begging for some form of intimacy from conversation or even cooking and dancing to some music. I was brought to tears over thinking about how happy she once was even just walking around Costco with me as corny as that sounds and now I’m somewhat lost because I feel like I can’t have a mature and healthy conversation about our feelings together without her shutting down emotionally.

Firstly, I know you would not have cut off contact with me last year unless you felt like it was the healthiest thing fore you to do. I understand my contribution to your pain, and the triggers that made it hard to spend time with me.
I have read your text many times [I sent a text outlining some of my issues before going NC], and I understand how my actions, poor listening skills, invalidation, and minimization have caused you pain, loneliness, and despair. I am truly sorry for the ways I have let you down as a mother. I am sorry that I was hurtful to you. As a parent, I should have protected you more and been more aware of, and more empathetic to, your needs. You have a right to feel disappointed in my that I didn’t do a better job.
I Las understand your needs regarding parents processing their past trauma separately from adult children. I want you to know that I have been seeing a good therapist, [therapist’s name] at [practice name] regularly this past year and have also done webinars and podcasts specific to parent/adult child relationships to help myself and hopefully to learn how to be a healthier parent and person.
I love you dearly and want you to be happy and healthy. I am proud of you for all that you are. I have missed you, [my dog] and [my partner] and being apart of your lives. I want you to know that I am open to do whatever is needed to mend our relationship moving forward.
If you want to talk, I promise to listen purely from the perspective of listening and learning, and not in any way to defend myself. Or, if you would feel more comfortable to do that in the presence of a therapist, I would welcome that also, as well, if there are things you would like me to specifically work on in my own therapy, I would appreciate that input as well.

Ndad: Same problem here. Estrangement is an area of expertise not normally covered by therapists which I understand although a relatively new phenomenon. Listening to some of the examples on Monday made me worried e.g. the son in law accusing his wife parents of murdering his 90 year old grandfather. The situations are growing more extreme and therapists seem to be "egging on" their patients. So I agree, stay on the waiting list, for [my brother] as much as anyone.
Nmom: Even assuming [my name] comes around before 2025 we will forever be on eggshells for another episode until proper therapy - I am hoping as in sf she could go to see him +- with me to enlighten herself. We were not perfect parents but the influence from whomever incl [best friend] has to be squashed as not dealing with issues is stonewalling and abusive to us.
I admit that I am having suicidal thoughts about it myself, that is not good but 80% of mothers do.
From his teachings we just have to suck it up or else things get worse - it is not fair but that is the best way.
if I had known I would have kept quite and not defended us - her calling me narcissist triggered me and I even said that despite your tendencies you were not a card carrying narcissist either.
the physical abuse memory I think is exaggerated, I asked her point blank and said i never witnessed it then she back tracked saying emotional abuse is worse than physical anyway. There was emotional abuse but also a lot of good things and I tried to reason that I was under duress and you were not in right mind eep bearing your childhood. She said she had empathy but I got impression it didn't matter we are the parents and she was a child.

Ndad: I know, trust me, it's very depressing to see how this has turned out given all the efforts we put in to give them a nice home, schooling and entertainment which we never had. From my own past, I know parents take some blame, but at some point, the kids need to get on with life and stop deflecting all their own character flaws on failed parenting, whether real or catastrophized by therapists.

4/1/24 (a few weeks after reinitiating contact with ndad after not talking for 5 months)

Nmom: Yesterday was a year+ 1 day since I got the email from [my husband about setting NC].
I have been thinking about how odd it is that [my name] cannot appraise any information and critically assess better from the internet or whomever. I thought the whole point of [a high school program I went through 10+ years ago] was world harmony and peace through conflict resolution - didn't she even have classes on all that? Her relationship with [my high school friend group] obsession also odd, she got upset at me once as I could not say [my friend who does not have a stereotypically white name] name right, took offense etc like If's Mary or John. She seems to have to protect [my best friend] or prove that she's independent from us and their interactions last March i was there were trivial and frivolous kinda immature like hard to describe. There was another example earlier I thought of when she was quick to adopt polyamory etc that I thought was not thought thru at the time. Of course I did not debate etc. That was pre-[my husband], soon switched so idk it was like after she saw the NetFlix show on it saying monogamy was abnormal.
Ndad: Yesterday's show was good, and it was fair to say that men and women react differently to the same situation which, I think did create conflict between us e.g. Soft approach vs hard-line approach and then we also had your mother to contend with which didn’t help. But most of these are fairy common childhoods, nothing terrible like the children being physically, sexually abused or even picked on [lies]. In fact, they were privileged, not even helping clean, cook, helping for the most part.
I also feel that therapy is a double-edged sword from my own experiences. A person in emotional turmoil needs careful handling and too often, my therapists would focus on outcomes without looking at context. For example, I don't like XYZ because they erotionally abused me is the outcome, and a biased outcome as well. But the context would be, CYX told the child off because they were rude and offensive. Many therapists don’t care about context, just the outcome. This is wrong and all it does is reinforce the resentment in their patient and does not help the patient be compassionate to another’s position.
Both are mentally ill and not getting proper treatment, [my name] is getting reinforcement from people that are not well themselves and [my brother] is desperate for acceptance from friends to the point of casting everything else aside e.g. family, career, education, ambition, etc. and excusing his behavior as a product of childhood abuse (reinforced by others who have their own agendas). I invited him to visit three times, and each time he didn't call back but instead he decided to help a friend's friend whose mother died while ironically, his own father is seriously ill, hospitalized and unable to walk. [My name]’s obsession with how great other parents are compared to us is also ignorant and seemed to begin around age 14.
Personally, I am on the point of giving up on them. They cause more anguish during this time than all the medical stuff combined, it's distracting, heartbreaking and it's making me sicker. My primary doctor agrees. I gave [my brother] $6000 and $50000 in 2023 and in both cases, he neither called to say thanks or did anything constructive with it. Similarly with [my name], I was hospitalized, seriously ill and she decided it was a good time to cut me off for reasons I don't understand [took a 6 month break from talking and re-initiated contact before this email was sent]. its too much dealing with adult children.

I’m sure some of the letter was taken from something that scummy money grab “therapist” J*shua C*leman has put out, who she seems to have discovered per the emails (censoring his name because I wouldn't be surprised if his deranged ass had notifications for mentions online and who knows if he's working with my nparents or not). Can't wait for him to have his license revoked.

I can't believe what I'm paying to fly to China to see family now. I composed the following letter. Take from it what you will, modify to fit your own personal circumstances, and send to your local rep.

US airlines lobbying the administration to restrict flights complain about an unfair advantage by Chinese carriers as they can fly over Russia (3). This is not true of new flights the US have approved or could approve, as the FAA has quite sensibly required all new flights (including Chinese carrier flights to the US) should avoid Russian airspace (2). Lobbyists also complain that "Chinese airlines enjoying certain protections stemming from the Chinese airline’s relationships with their government". Such vague objections cannot be taken seriously and can't justify the continued freeze on numbers of flights between the US and China. Ultimately, it appears that US airline lobbying is an effort to restrict foreign competition by Chinese carriers, who appear to be more able to resume flights than US carriers.
I would respectfully request that you convey to the Biden Administration that airline lobbying hurts consumers like [ME/MY FAMILY/MY COMMUNITY]. I am an international student graduating from a university in Toronto. In February, I submitted a visitor visa application for my parents to attend my graduation ceremony in June 2024. I included all necessary supporting documents to demonstrate their financial solvency, such as recent bank statements showing ample funds (more than CAD $33,000) for the trip, and a property and fixed asset valuation report from a Chartered Accountant. Additionally, my parents have a strong international travel history including recent visits to the UK, the US and many other countries. I clearly stated in the invitation letter and the purpose of the travel document that their visit was to attend my graduation and that they would return home by the end of June 2024 due to business and property responsibilities.
These were the supporting documents for the application:

• I provided 3 bank statements that accumulate funds equivalent to $33,000 CAD and a fixed asset valuation report of my father’s property from a Chartered Accountant, reflecting its current fair market value of more than 5 Million CAD
  
• ⁠The purpose of travel is to attend my graduation mentioned in the invitation letter and the purpose of the travel document with the proof of solid family ties back home that shows they must come back by the end of June. Both my parents have a good international history with a record of recent visits to the UK, the USA and other countries.
  
• ⁠Documents proving their family ties to Home country are:

  • Recent bank statements that accumulates funds of $33,000 CAD
  • The business licence for my enterprise in Home Country
  • Rent receipts from all the tenants of my solely-owned business property with the rental agreement

However, I received a refusal letter from IRCC last night including the following reasons:

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/section-179.html). I am an international student graduating from a university in Toronto. In February, I submitted a visitor visa application for my parents to attend my graduation ceremony in June 2024. I included all necessary supporting documents to demonstrate their financial solvency, such as recent bank statements showing ample funds (more than CAD $33,000) for the trip, and a property and fixed asset valuation report from a Chartered Accountant. Additionally, my parents have a strong international travel history including recent visits to the UK, the US and many other countries. I clearly stated in the invitation letter and the purpose of the travel document that their visit was to attend my graduation and that they would return home by the end of June 2024 due to business and property responsibilities.
These were the supporting documents for the application:

• I provided 3 bank statements that accumulate funds equivalent to $33,000 CAD and a fixed asset valuation report of my father’s property from a Chartered Accountant, reflecting its current fair market value of more than 5 Million CAD
  
• ⁠The purpose of travel is to attend my graduation mentioned in the invitation letter and the purpose of the travel document with the proof of solid family ties back home that shows they must come back by the end of June. Both my parents have a good international history with a record of recent visits to the UK, the USA and other countries.
  
• ⁠Documents proving their family ties to Home country are:
  
  • Asset valuation report that reflects property ownership
  • Recent bank statements that accumulates funds of $33,000 CAD
  • The business licence for my enterprise in Home Country
  • Rent receipts from all the tenants of my solely-owned business property with the rental agreement
  • Tax return since 2021
  • National Identity Documents

However, I received a refusal letter from IRCC last night including the following reasons:

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/section-179.html). Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
• I wouldn’t choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. Im actually so sad but I couldn’t meet the deadline for the cougar promise since my parents were having so many issues with Fafsa and I tried emailing the school but they say they couldn’t do anything about it is there something I can do to get considered ?! Hey all, I've been reading this group for the last couple of months. I had a terrible credit score (560) and have been trying to improve it. I tried many tips from here to improve my credit and saw marginal increases (+50ish points), but I found a better solution I'd like to share. My credit score jumped an average of 210 points in two months (I am a 770 between all three bureaus) and I didn't pay a dime to have anyone do it. Late payments have been removed, and collections have been dropped. All I've done is sent letters to collection agencies and the credit bureaus threatening a lawsuit if they fail to drop collections against my credit / late payments that I deem inaccurate or insufficient to report. How did I do it? I literally go into Chat GPT and write prompts like this "Write me a demand letter to \****** [collection agency] demanding that they immediately remove a collection for xxx from my credit report." I add "Be aggressive in the letter and note that I will move forward with a lawsuit if not corrected." Sometimes, I will add details too, like "Note that I recently closed ****** account and was in good standing" or "I have not been provided sufficient evidence, I do not recall this debt, or the evidence provided is insufficient under federal law." I also told the chatgpt, "Tell them that I refuse to receive any contact attempting to collect the debt and will view it as a violation of federal law."* I add "Say I'm only willing to accept written communication regarding the [collection agency] confirming they have removed this from my credit report." I also tell chatgpt to say, "if I do not receive a response by \***** confirming this has been removed from my credit, I will move forward with a lawsuit." *What happens:** ChatGPT spits out a legally intimidating letter that says to provide me with concrete proof, or I will sue if they fail to remove me from my credit report. It also demands a response in writing within 30 days. I also Cc various federal agencies at the bottom, and it works. What I do after I get the ChatGPT letter: Once I get the response from Chatgpt, I take the demand letter it spits out, read it (make adjustments if I need to), put it in word or pages, change the text to courier font (the legal lettering), and send it off. I also use my printer to print the creditors name on the envelope (in courier legal font) so it looks more intimidating. I add "Time-Sensitive" in bold on the top left the envelope too. Here are the results after 60 days: (I started in February and wanted to wait a little before posting everything). All amounts are in estimates just to keep it as anonymous as possible. - $6,000 (estimate) debt with a debt buyer---- 5 years old---Removed, and provided a letter letting it go. - $1,000 (estimate) debt from another debt buyer -- 15 months old-- Removed (no letter provided, just off my credit). I have sent another demanding letter giving them 15 days to confirm in writing they are removing it (will update when I get a response). - $1,700 (estimate) from a collection agency -- Sent me a letter with "verification." I sent a letter saying it wasn't sufficient; they sent a letter back with a contract signed by me and said the creditor adjusted the collection to $450. From that point, I called and said I found the debt wrong, but I settled it for $300 as a pay-to-delete. - $640 (estimate) debt from a collection agency -- Removed and provided a letter letting it go. - $1,300 (estimate) debt collection agency-- Removed and provided a letter letting it go - Six late car payments to USAA Financial were updated to paid on time (payments were late from November 2023 to some in 2022). I had a 90-day late payment taken off. For these, I sent my disputes directly to Experian, Equifax, and Transunion ( I did not send a letter to USAA Financial because they would have concrete records of when payments were made). Some important notes: - Make sure your prompt is aggressive. You might need to tweak it a couple times by telling chatgpt to be more mean (ha ha). - Make sure you tell ChatGPT to demand responses in writing that it's off your credit report. I didn't want them to try to re-add it later or sell it to another agency. By demanding it in writing, I put them at risk if they sell it off because my letters note that I will sue them if they try to offload it to another credit company because it's a wrongful debt. - You also need to read what it writes; it will make small mistakes here and there (sometimes it will put things in plural) My situation: I was an idiot until recently and could care less about my credit. This method cleared my credit and approved me for a new car lease (I needed a $1,500-$2,000 car lease payment to write off because of tax reasons). I recently got a new 2024 S 580 hybrid (Mercedes) and the Mercedes dealer didn't flinch about my credit on a $148,000 car (was approved by Mercedes Benz financial). I'm in my early 30s and self-employed. I make roughly $230,000 a year. Some may ask why I don't just pay it off based on income -- Owe roughly $85k and take care of my parents. A piece of advice: DO NOT PAY ANYONE TO HELP YOU. YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF. YOU JUST NEED TO PUT SOME TIME INTO IT. Good luck.

Hello everyone, FTB here with a few silly questions.
I viewed a property yesterday evening for the 1st time and thinking about putting an offer in. I am very new to this so have a few questions I would like to ask. The estate agent has said that one offer is already in. The house has been up for several months and has already had one sale fall through. I'm thinking about making an offer on the back of just one viewing, but seeking some opinions.
I know the area well, as I used to work close by so not worried about that. Asking price is £265,000 it says on the website it was reduced previously but I'm not sure from what.
1) Is it reasonable to offer under £265k?
The reason for this is I'm happy with the state of the property (as far as I can tell, not any expertise in this area) however I am chain free and have a large deposit (25-30%), I've heard this can give an advantage, especially as they have already had a sale fall through. Several family members have said not to offer the list price and that it is the "done thing" to offer a little bit under (not sure about this). I'm considering to offer 5%-10% under so around £235-250k. I am a serious buyer and don't want to come off like I'm playing games to try and save a bit of money, but on the other hand, I'm feel I'm an attractive buyer and with one sale already falling through moving quicker for a bit less might be in their interest. Is it reasonable to stick in an offer of 235 and expect to negotiate up to 245 (for example).
2) I would like to go with my parents/sister to visit the property. Should I book a second viewing before or after making an offer? How likely will it be that the owner accepts another offer, in the meantime if I request a second viewing immediately, rather than going straight into the offer, and does my chain free status give me any lee-way here?
I'm thinking maybe to just go right in and offer on Monday, but equally I would like to go with my family to get their opinions. I'd also like to have a look at the loft space, which I couldn't do first time around. I wouldn't class this as essential, but something I would like to do, and I think having someone else look is reasonable. The balance I'm trying to strike here is a bit tricky perhaps.
I don't want the seller, or estate agent to doubt my legitimacy by putting in an offer and then asking for a second viewing, would it make the seller worried, like I'm trying to find some faults with the property or something? Equally I don't want to request a second viewing, and then in the meantime the house is taken off the market by the first offer (which the EA has told me is in). I have no idea about this other offer, it could be that the first offer is by someone in a chain, or a worse financial position than myself. This could worry the buyer as the first sale fell through because the buyer could not secure the correct funding.
3) Should I amend my AIP to be closer in value to the property?
Based on my salary, I could probably mortgage around 280k and I have a deposit of up to around 120k. So in theory I could be looking at properties around 350-400k. I'm not because I'd prefer to not go for the max amount and I am happy with this house after my first visit. If the EA sees I can (in theory) afford another 150k on the house price, they might be more likely to want to me to pay more. On the other hand, it can indicate I am more likely to get accepted for a mortgage (which was the sticking point of the sale that fell through).
4) How honest should I be with the EA? And should I wait for him to call me or shall I call him on Monday?
I'm thinking I could just ring him up and ask directly, "look I like the property, I'm chain free with a large deposit, so you can tell the owner I can move quickly, and more likely to be fine getting a mortgage, this should be more comforting to the owner who had a sale fall through before, I would like to do a second viewing and then immediately put an offer in, I'm very interested, but because of those reasons I'd like to offer 240k".
Or is it better to "play the game"?
5) Did I miss anything, general advice anyone can give.
Ultimately I'm very serious and very interested, just trying to get the best price and hopefully my chain free status and decent deposit should make me more attractive.

Hello!! I (21 y/o) was diagnosed with lupus about a year ago, and the main way it affects me is through joint pain/fatigue. I am a student, and have managed to get through college thus far on scholarships and financial aid. However, this summer I have extra expenses and need to get a job in order to pay bills. The only callbacks I get are from big retail companies, mainly looking for cashiers and online order fulfillment. This means being on my feet/ walking around the store for entire shifts. I usually do well on long walks as long as I get small breaks in between, same with standing. If I push myself for more than an hour at a time it has caused flare ups for me. Should I request reasonable accommodations? Do I need to fill out a form/get something from my doctor? I live in the United States so I know I have rights under ADA. Im 20 F , working and studying to make a living , managing hardly but its fine .. my parents cant help me financially because they are going through a financial hardship, and i saved up all my savings and cant even afford going to uni or my job , how can i be able to get any small amount to go through the month i dont have a credit card

I feel like logically I should switch to live at home instead of on campus. This is something I rly do not want to to do but everywhere I look it says private loans should be avoided at all costs, and I do not have much money saved as we are lower middle class and my parents never allowed me to get a job
Im conflicted, i feel like i will be miserable at home with my parents but they are not abusive so staying with them is an option i know i should consider

I am deciding to go back to school in Spring 2025 -- this is because in October of this year, 2024, I will be turning 24. I read that once I turn 24, I will then be classified as an independent student and will finally qualify for financial aid (my parents made too much money). I am just wondering how it works and was hoping someone could explain the process to me.
I am applying to the college I desire on August 1st of 2024 -- I'll still be 23. I don't know much about FAFSA -- I only filled it out once in 2019 and got told I don't qualify for anything.. so will I be able to go to school as an independent student in Spring of 2025 even though I'm applying while I'm considered a dependent student?
