I’m rewatching the show right now, and am on season four. Seeing Healy’s flashbacks again and hearing about his mother made me wonder about her mental illness.
From the flashbacks, we learn that she sees things that aren’t there. His father says that only women can get the disease, and a bully in his childhood called his mother a lesbian, which caused Sam to ask if his mother was one. Given how people viewed being a lesbian at the time, I wouldn’t be surprised if she were being treated for that, but that doesn’t sound quite right. Obviously, that wouldn’t explain why she sees things that aren’t there. Does anyone have any idea what she might have, or why the first thing that kid in Sam’s class concluded was that she was a lesbian? It doesn’t make sense to me with the context we have.

Alright to start off, I actually prefer War and Dawn over Rise overall, mainly because they both have more compelling villains, but I consider all 3 to be very good movies. But for battle scenes specifically, I actually think Rise takes the cake here, and the main reason for this is that it shows us the audience Caesar's quality of leadership and some important character traits, which were very important to establish in the first instalment. That being said, the battle scene at the end of Dawn is more cinematographically impressive, I'd say.
Now I'm not judging these scenes by any sort military realism, because for films about talking Apes you've got to suspend your disbelief a little bit anyway. That being said, I really like how the Golden Gate scene shows strategy come into play and what the evolved Apes were capable of. The Policemen obviously had the advantage of technology, so we see Caesar's plan hinging on the advantage the Apes had - their climbing abilities and their strength (especially the Gorillas pushing the bus) to close the distance. It also sets up the position of Koba, Rocket and Maurice within their society as the future lieutenants of Caesar, since they all lead separate forces of Apes as part of Caesar's strategy. In this way we also see that Caesar places a lot of trust in these characters, again setting up relations for the sequels. In the end, the way the plan all comes together, with the police being swarmed from all directions, was very fun to watch.
This scene also highlights two character traits of Caesar. First is his reluctance to kill humans, which of course ties heavily into his character conflicts in the Dawn and especially war. Second is how Caesar does everything possible to preserve his apes - considering there were only about a dozen police and hundreds of apes on that bridge, Caesar probably could have just had his apes run straight at them as a horde and still overwhelm them, but this would have cost a lot more apes then his meticulous strategy did.
This also ties into the the battle scene in Dawn, which I consider to be the second best in the trilogy. Whereas Caesar devised a clever and careful strategy to defeat the humans with as few Ape losses as possible, Koba just rushed his Apes straight into the Human defences. It goes about as well as expected, and huge numbers of Apes are killed or wounded in the attack. You can argue that Koba only really wins here because his apes had a complete element of surprise, with the humans being vulnerable while they were celebrating the restoration of power in the city. Caesar always prioritized the safety of his apes, and even tried to avoid killing humans when possible too, while Koba only cared about getting revenge on the humans.
As for war, while this film is my favourite of the trilogy, I actually find the battle scenes to be worse than the ones in Dawn and Rise. The end battle scene especially I had some issues with. My main complaint here is that the Northern forces were just too well equipped. They had Ah-64 Gunships and M1 MBTs (or rather Chieftain tanks made up to look like M1's, but hushhh...). With that much firepower, a makeshift wall constructed by Ape-slaves shouldn't have been that much of an obstacle to them - the Gunships, or at least the tanks, could easily blast that down from a kilometres away. Caesar's sacrifice to blow up the wall felt a little bit like a forced sacrifice considering the Northern forces should have destroyed it long before that point (although I liked that it gave Red a redemption scene at least).
If I could have changed that scene, I wouldn't have had the Northern alliance be so well equipped. Considering the US government has long since dissolved, and the logistical apparatus to support such maintenance intensive machines would also have collapsed after the plague, it is entirely believable that even a remnant of the US military couldn't maintain these machines. Just have the Northern military troops have similar levels of equipment as the Alpha-Omega troops did, but to make Northern forces have much more men to have a numerical advantage - that way the construction of the wall makes more sense and you could have the rest of the plot play out mostly the same way so we can still get all of the character moments in that scene, which were very good. I'd also get rid of the avalanche because it took ridiculously long to arrive in the film (arrived just at the right moment for plot convenience, let's be honest), and it seemed to be raining the night before the battle so it's a wonder so much snow accumulated. Instead, I'd have the apes escape after Caesar's sacrifice to destroy the wall, and leave the outcome of the battle ambiguous, because after the apes had escaped and the Colonel had died, it really wouldn't have mattered much whether the remaining Alpha-Omega forces or the Northern alliance won. The film had already established that the evolved simian flu was spreading beyond control, so humanity's fate was sealed at that point; showing the entire Northern army being destroyed like that wasn't really necessary after Caesar's apes had escaped.
So all in all, I think Rise had the best battle scene of the trilogy because it shows the apes' using both their newfound intelligence and their physical abilities to overcome the technological disparity. It also managed to flesh out the characters while doing this, especially Caesar, in ways that were very important for the sequels.

I (16F) weigh 43kg and I'm 5'2. Literally just a week ago I weighed 48kg, the same weight I was when I was 13. I don't even know how because I genuinely thought I was eating more even though I reduced what I was eating in the mornings.
I usually eat a piece of bread for breakfast, a snack at school and then dinner when I get home. Its not a huge portion and I get full very quickly despite being really hungry when it comes to having dinner.
I never really have much of an appetite and even if I'm incredibly hungry, my stomach feels like it's burning kind of hungry, I get full after just a few bites.
I've had an on and off problem with eating for around 4 years that I never really went to the doctors about because whenever I asked my mother to call, she always forgot to. It was stupid things like losing my appetite, restricting what I was eating, not allowing myself to eat things like cakes or sweets. I know it was stupid and I had that yelled into me. But I just can't get better?? I try to eat more but it either disgusts me or makes me feel sick. I cant even distinguish whether I'm feeling hungry, full, or sick anymore.
Recently I've lost weight again. I can see my ribs through my sides and even my back and my hip bones. My hands have become more boney too. I feel like it's genuinely affecting me now because I always feel so sick and lightheaded. Whenever I stand up or move my head even a little too quickly I feel like I'm about to pass out. My body feels weak and my stomach constantly feels like its on fire. But I just can't eat more and it stressing me out more.
I genuinely don't know what to do because my mother won't phone the doctors and I can't because of exams. I'm genuinely scared I'm going to end up passing out or something. I'm in desperate need or some kind of guidance.

Ok I have a friend let’s call her Tracy. I’ve known Tracy since Feb 2023 we met on an influencer group on a brand trip. Around Aug 2023 I moved to her city. We started hanging out a lot and I noticed She still had her moments where she’s very tit for tat about money. I never had a problem with it because I was good for it, but in Jan I was relieved from my main source of income. I started to struggle and was even homeless for a while. I asked if I could stay with her and offered to pay. Stayed with her for only a month and I noticed how self absorbed she is. When I would talk to Tracy, she would always make it about her, cut me off or try to see how she can get out of something for nothing. When I would show her something cool that I did or created she would ask me to do it for free knowing that something that I would want to charge for it.
There was a point where I was really struggling so I asked to borrow some money. I did what I needed to do for her for the first half but it took me about two months to pay her the rest of the money back because I was still working to survive. Fast forward a couple months… Her birthday is at the beginning of the month and she spent about over $5000 on her birthday activities. She didn’t come out of pocket because a few homeboys and boys she’s messing with sent her the money. The only thing that she wanted from her friends was a specific cake. I was searching for the cake and I was gonna see if me and all of her friends could split it. She told me that she ended up finding and buying the cake then told her other friends to send her a $50-$100 donation towards the event. Then she said for me to just send her $100 to go towards the cake. I didn't do it cuz I didn’t budget that into my expenses.
I ended up leaving her birthday event early because I had an allergic reaction to something and broke out in hives. I almost passed out and left because I didn’t wanna make a big deal on her birthday. When I got back, she was making jokes about how She wanted to “know what I had an allergic reaction to in case she ever wanted to kill me.” . Then the next day she kept trying to force me to do what I suspected gave me a bad reaction because it was her birthday. She kept “jokingly” calling me selfish for not doing so.
Recently Ive been better about my money. I would tell Tracy about it thinking she’d be happy for me. Her first reaction was “good now give me $100.” When I tell her to ask people who have it she would say “They paid for my birthday already I want YOUR money”. I said that I’ll take her out on a nice date as a joke, but I don’t even want to do that because she previously admitted that she orders a bunch of stuff… Stuff she doesn’t even really want if somebody else is paying.
Right now, I am more comfortable financially to be able to to pay her the hundred dollars, but I really don’t want to, so would I be the asshole if I don’t pay her?

A couple of people in denial, a few ashamed at their own violent outbursts and a stern warning to Tamm about painting others’ properties without asking first.
This morning, however, began with an all-hands meeting. There were no meeting rooms in the office, so they made do in the general workspace room, they all stood there at the center while Keya looked them over.
“We have received a report from a neighboring city about a convoy of protestors making its way to Blackriver” she describes without tone. At this point nobody bothers interrupting.
“This convoy is comprised of approximately four hundred and seventy eight individuals of multiple species, primarily human and venlil but with operationally relevant representations of the entire spectrum of size and mobility types” her paws are behind her back, her ears focused directly ahead, her eyes centered to keep the entire team on the core of her focus “They have crossed multiple cities already, generally engaging in verbal sparring with any figure of authority, parading signs and banners denouncing all manners of authorities as well as occasionally engaging in physical altercations with officers.”
“They are also known to engage in vandalism. Though primarily aimed at exterminator and police precincts as well as public offices, they have already caused considerable collateral to others they have identified as ‘collaborators’” there’s a single heartbeat of waiting for breath before she continues “They have, however, not shown to be an incredibly organized group or one with a clear goal and objective. The convoy appears to contain only extremely emotionally charged people with no clear overarching goal.”
“We are incapable of dealing with the situation should they turn aggressive, as such we will be simply maintaining watch and relocating the populace should they become a problem.” Then, she picks up her holopad and passes it to Lunek beside her “They can only follow one path with the entire convoy, the central street, therefore I have divided it into four sectors. One of each will be assigned to a sector.”
First her ears turn to the first target “Lunek, sector one at the entrance. As the most approachable member of the precinct your task is to give an initial image of harmlessness. Do not engage first, do not take initiative against them. Ensure the members of the herd in the area are warned of their approach. If they become aggressive, retreat and focus on the escape of the herd.”
She tilts her head a little bit, turning her ears the other way “Marik, sector two. Mostly the commercial area, your task is ostensive protection to lower the chances of them initiating aggression. Whereas protection of the herd is first priority your second priority is ensuring Tenve’s Hardware Store as well as Sunbreeze Meals and Watchful Café remain capable of providing anyone whose residences become damaged.” suddenly, she turns her head entirely to face Marik “Ostensive protection means dissuasion, ensure that they know they are not under threat and as long as those specific areas are not engaged, do not provoke”
Next in her line of fire is Santos “As our human officer you will be in sector three, nearby the precinct. They are liable to become most agitated in this area and your presence may serve to calm them. You are not to engage, if deemed necessary the precinct’s materials are considered expendable, do not attempt to stop them”
“Sector four, the exit of town, will be with me to ensure that they have fully left Blackriver and will not attempt to turn back” then she tilts her ears again “Aren, you will gear up with a CCG and remain out of view range, your task will be quick emergency response should the need arise.” she then points her tail at the last three officers “Vess, your task will be to inform the herd and ensure a clear path for the convoy while Nila and Kessa will gather all of our medical supplies and set a staging area out of the convoy’s range. Organize ambulance assistance from Striped Hill and Everrain”
Then, she turns her ears around to focus each one in turn “As any attempt at aggression will end only in negative consequences, and in order to reduce the apparent levels of threat you will be unarmed. The estimated time of arrival is a third of a claw, ready yourselves and be at your post in time. Dismissed.”
“Not sure if I like or I don’t that we had the cold bastard right now” Aren says, as soon as Keya had left the room “Maybe we should move in closer when the convoy gets to sector four?”
“Probably a good idea to be nearby” Santos adds with a sigh “They might take umbrage with her demeanor, hopefully they won’t be set off too hard.”
And with silent signs of agreement all of the officers of Blackriver depart for preparations. The first ones to leave the precinct are the ones in charge of support, the two girls set off early to find someone willing to permit usage of their lawn as a possible impromptu field hospital and a little while later Aren leaves with a heavy CCG.
Slowly, the clock ticks to the appointed claw… And soon enough, Lunek can see in the distance the incoming omen of people. At first a distant line in the horizon, slowly the dark mark on the road coalesces into distinct shapes, the shapes of hundreds of vehicles slowly rolling down the road.
When the first few get close to the initial buildings of the main street, the entire convoy slows down. Their process of preparation is seemingly laborious, each vehicle houses multiple people at a time, smaller cars full to the brim, flatbeds with more people on their cargo space than can safely be contained, even buses conscripted for the effort. They carry with them signs, flags, a multitude of symbols as they dismount their vehicles and start spreading out to fill the street.
They seem to naturally form two distinct yet highly mixed groups, at its most distinctive is the pack of humans who keep a good distance from each other. But they are not alone in this group as takkan, mazic, yotul, zurulian and even drilvar form this central group. But flowing around them, not avoiding their presence but never infringing in their space is the grey mass of venlil, packed tight together, and mixed in there adding color to the monochromatic flux are krakotl, tilfish, sulean, iftali, sivkit and even a seemingly very confused duerten.
And at the very core of the moving group are their vehicles, which gently start rolling forward again as the group starts moving. Lunek simply waits, silently, by the side of the road, his ears attentively swiveling from one side to the other, expression having given way to function. Before the first of the convoy even arrives close he turns to the side, making a pointing sign with his tail. A woman who had been watching from her yard flicks her right ear and runs back inside.
He continues to wait, scanning around at all times for the presence of… Anything. The street is empty of locals when the first visitors start to alight. The convoy is loud, their symbols carry a loudness of colors and their vehicles make as much noise as they can to draw attention, but those who walk seem content in allowing their tools to speak for them, for now. Lunek tries to make sense of the banners and signs, but the messages are disparate as the group- Some speak of injustices against their people, some speak of anger at invaders, some speak of betrayal.
“Fuck off, fireman!” comes the harsh bark of a human, causing Lunek to flinch. But flinch is all he does, he simply starts walking alongside the moving convoy.
The exterminator’s attention is drawn to the details of the few people he can distinguish amongst the mass. Something tickles at his pattern-recognition but he cannot quite ascertain what for a while, until a lightly limping mazic makes her way to the edge of the mass “Want to finish the job?!” she trumpets, her form towering over his.
“I’m just observing, ma’am.” Though the tremor of his voice is noticeable, he remains stoic. But her proximity makes him notice something about her body, marks in her wrists, neck and feet. Though mazic have powerful wrists and knuckles upon which they support the front half of their weight, her left wrist seems completely incapable of it, giving her a limp particular to a three-point walk. “To make sure there’s no impediment on your path” he notices the leathery skin around her left wrist is deeply blackened.
“Oh, ‘no impediment’ is that it? So everyone that lives here is an impediment?!” her voice booms.
“Ma’am” still, he does not yield nor does he break his pace following the convoy “We have not done anything other than inform our people of your presence…” for a half second all he hears is the sound of his own heart “We can’t do anything else.”
Those words, then, sealed his fate. The first shout to echo in his direction was a yotul howling “Yeah you’re useless!” and soon the avalanche came in multiple voices and languages “Can’t do shit!” “You’re just here to hurt people!” “Useless crap!” “Idiot!” and many more.
With every step and twitch the very average exterminator puts all of his focus on just being there. He lets himself cower a little bit, against the barrage it is difficult not to, but he continues to accompany. A few curious coats step out from their houses to watch, but the front of the convoy seems far too focused on the sole exterminator in view to bother anyone else.
A few steps ahead, an older venlil with a cane has moved the closest to the convoy as any watcher has up to now. Seeing her proximity to the increasingly rowdy crowd causes Lunek to speed up, quickly approaching her “Leva-”
But his words are stalled when she puts a paw on his shoulder, she gently puts her head against his for just a second “You’re doing good pup, keep at it” she mutters to him before breaking contact and turning around to walk back inside. He can spy her grandchildren looking on through the door. Lunek looks back at the still-shouting moving convoy, takes a deep breath, and continues to accompany them forward. A small pawful of them, however, seem to have fallen silent.
Once having reached the limit of his assigned zone, however, Lunek stops. He watches the convoy move forward, past the houses, now noisier than before. The initial hollering at him had turned into disjointed screams at some indistinct foe- Though the herd had been noticed of a foe, it was yet unaware of who, or what, said foe was. So for now it howled at the ineptitude of… Someone. And as the last of the convoy passes beyond the imaginary line of his duty, Lunek lets out a deep sigh and allows himself to sit down on the ground.
He stays there for a moment, without thought, simply letting the tension, confusion and fear permeate his body until a gentle paw touches his arm. He doesn’t need to look to identify it, he lets his lover use her strength to prop him up, raising him to his feet “Keina you shouldn’t-”
“Neighbor’s looking over Tiss” his wife wraps her arms and tail around him “I’m not leaving you alone.” she stays like that for a second, before breaking off “Do you need to go after them?”
“No”
Marik stalks through the sidewalk, moving with energy. His speed outpaces the movement of the convoy, his paws twitch to grasp at something that isn’t there and a deep and intense motion makes his short fur stand on end. He had let the convoy’s head move in front of him, simply standing still as he assessed as many as he could in the mass, and now he had begun to move towards the front again.
As he stalked forward he focused his sight on every member of the convoy that seemed of interest. A human whose clothes seemed suspiciously loose, a venlil whose movements were far too stiff, a gojid who kept his claws behind his back. He stared at each like they were his quarry, analyzing every piece of movement they made for threats, and yet aside from the challenge in the human’s gaze he saw no danger arise.
Tenve had closed his shop, so as the convoy moved forward Marik simply continued to follow along, scanning the crowd for threats. But the next point of interest arrives, and he rushes ahead placing himself in front of the only restaurant of the town. Sunbreeze Meals wasn’t a very common sort of restaurant, Blackriver did not have enough visitors for a normal restaurant to be profitable and was small enough most people had their meals at home, it most often served takeout for those farmers who’d spend so long in the field they would return home without the energy to feed themselves.
Sparing a look inside at the only five tables, Marik couldn’t keep a small thought away from his mind. How most who got their meals from Sunbreeze these days did so because they enjoyed the cooking rather than their need of work, ever since the sunspeck population has been brought under control and the maintenance of the fields had become much smaller. He feels the presence long before he can recognize what led him to feel it and turns to stare at a group of six that approach the entrance: Two humans, a tilfish, two gojids and a takkan had broken off from the convoy and approached the restaurant.
He traces his color band over each in turn, and they all bristle at his stare. One of the humans hesitates before continuing to walk inside, and Marik simply remains by the door with his arms crossed, left ear twisted as far back as he could to listen to the inside.
“What have you got here?”
“W-we mostly ha-have ready ma-made meals to go or- or- Or you can look over the menu”
“There’s no need to stutter, y’know”
“So-sorry-”
“Really, after everything y’all are still with this predator crap?”
The chimes on the door echo for the second time in sequence as Marik makes his way inside. The tilfish had started to lean over the counter while the other five had arrayed themselves behind her. They all turn their attention to him as he enters, including the venlil manning the counter. Marik keeps his gaze directly on the tilfish for a few uncomfortable seconds, before looking at the man behind the counter and making a simple sign with his tail, a short vertical bob with the tip and a slow horizontal swipe. It’s meaning simple: >Safe<.
After a few seconds someone else appears from the kitchen. The tall venlil carries a large stack of plastic boxes in his arms, all of them seemingly designed to attach to themselves so as to be carried with ease. He puts them down with a resounding crash on the counter, and opens up his voice with ice “Farmer’s Pots, good meal when you’re working and can’t go home.” With each word the owner of the restaurant and main cook comes closer and closer to the tilfish, until the last “Ten credits each.”
Nobody moves for a couple of seconds, and then one of the humans steps closer and brings a holopad over to the credit reader. There’s a noise indicating payment, and then the owner raises his head and tilts it to focus his favored eye and both of his ears at the man who paid “Now,” he shifts register in his voice and the language he speaks in “fuck off” he finishes.
With no small amount of surprise the group of six retrieve the stack of packaged meals, carefully walking out and back into the convoy. Marik stays behind for a moment “Didn’t know you spoke human”
“Pup’s enamored with their languages. Of course, first greek words he learns is swearing.”
Outside, Marik stalks further ahead to the next point of interest. He moves faster than the convoy, and has time to move in front of it. For a few meters the street is still clear as he arrives to find a group of people standing in front of the Watchful. Standing there were all of its employees, and even all of its regulars, twenty people total standing there as if they were having the most normal day. If not for their raised ears tracking every noise coming from down the street and their swaying tails swinging about like angry beasts.
One of them simply points his tail at the other side of the street as Marik comes closer, and the hunter doesn’t need a second command to understand the meaning. They have this, he has a less practical but just as important duty. He crosses the street quickly before the convoy starts coming closer, and heads towards the park.
As the regulars of the Watchful had feared, it took little time until a large group had broken off from the convoy. With the town on alert about the convoy they had found themselves bereft of prey and now this group had set out to find some, anyone who might be willing, or not, to listen to their grievances. And what is clearly a place designed for people to congregate looked most appetizing.
Marik shadowed the group as they moved through the park, but they were accompanied by nothing but silence. It wasn’t until they ran into the centerpiece of the park that he took initiative, stepping ahead of the group and simply… Standing there a distance away from the tree of many scions, between it and the group.
“What’s so important over there, fireman?” it was a venlil who asked, but his usage of an english word was not lost on Marik.
“A place you will respect” the exterminator has his arms crossed, the one good portion of his gaze set on the man who asked “This is a grave.”
Though the group that now prowled was large, those who heard were taken aback. One such, however, approaches closer. He was a venlil whose fur shifted between a soft, brownish color and a dirty white “A tradition of the tenets right? One of those family trees?” The man would have been distinctive in any other group due to his missing patches of fur around neck, wrists, even portions around his head. But such signs of long term damage were common in the convoy.
Interest. They had shown true interest, or at least one of them had. “No, but similar… The forgotten tree is a grave for the forgotten.” He felt like these people, at least the ones before him, could probably understand the meaning of this place “It is of no tradition. Someone, a long time ago, wanted to honor someone who was gone but whose name was not meant to be remembered. Someone who had disappeared in the system… So they borrowed on another’s tradition, and added a scion to this tree, with something in their memory. Others have done so similarly, until it became… A grave for the forgotten”
“Didn’t think you’d be worried about this kind of place” it’s a human that speaks up this time
“Our duty is to protect this town, what you think-” but Marik’s words are interrupted by that same venlil who had asked before. His demeanor suddenly shifts, his ears perk up and his entire body shifts forward for a moment. He hesitates, for a second everyone’s focus is on him, and then he runs towards the tree.
Marik follows behind, stopping just by the man’s side as he finds himself at the base of the tree. The man makes a direct line to somewhere, something he had found from the distance, as if it had called him. He finds a thick and heavy branch that had been bent down by the weight of its scions and memories, near its base and speaking of a memory left behind long ago is a braid of fur made of three colors, a dirty white, a soft brown and a dark grey, bound by the braids are two beads.
The man raises up a paw, but does not touch it. As if cradling it, he recites the words engraved in one of the beads “I will cross every star to return home” others have come closer to listen to the man’s hoarse voice “There will always be a home for you” he reads of the second one. The names on the beads have been scratched out. The man falls on his knees “S-she kept her promise and… I couldn’t keep mine…”
Marik steps back as he watches two others come closer to comfort the man. He looks as a few others approach with more caution, looking up at the tree with a bit more reverence than they had before. Then, he turns around and starts heading back towards the main street.
Gazing out as the convoy gains a new flux, some leave it as it passes to move towards the park while others leave the park to rejoin the convoy, Marik simply stays there at the side of the street looking as stern as he could. Though the noise of the convoy remains great, here in this portion it seems to die down a little. A thought crosses his mind as he turns an ear as far back as he can, a thought he can’t help but voice “I wonder how many are looking at their own graves…”
As the convoy progresses, Santos simply stands by the front of the precinct, hands in his pockets. He watches the convoy arrive, heart beating fast, constrained hands the only reason he hasn't started shaking quite yet. He starts tapping his right foot as he watches the first few people cross by without noticing what this place is yet, everyone knows where the precinct is, so aside from the words printed on the sign by the entrance there is no other marker of what this building’s purpose might be.
Of course, it is impossible for nobody to notice. The entire convoy seems to stop as soon as a zurulian riding on the shoulders of a human points a claw at the building and says something. A large group breaks away at the command, all of them holding disparate signs and messages. They turn on the building with enough roars that whatever they are attempting to transmit is lost on him.
Santos is thankful his hearing isn’t nearly as good as his coworkers’, as the cacophony is already overwhelming him. He changes stances slightly, taking his hands out of his pockets and crossing his arms. This prompts a small group to turn their looks at him, the focus easily identifiable with the humans in their midst, focus which made the hair in the back of Santos’ neck stand on end. Living in this place had refined his sense of danger, but he didn’t need that to realize what could happen.
It was a group of five that approached, four humans and a venlil. “Didn’t think they’d be letting humans live out here in the boonies” said one of his kin.
Santos just shrugs “Got hired to work here. Honestly, rural folk get a needlessly bad reputation, most of the time they just don’t care as long as you’re not bothering them”
“Really? In my-”
Santos interrupts the man “Cut it out” there are many ways in which humans make themselves obvious, many of which are their eyes. Santos did understand the fear of them and why it was primal, it was not the fear of the eyes but the fear of attention, it was knowing you were under the scrutiny and judgment of another that set off that emotion. It was rarely the eyes that showed this attention for most species, but for humans it was, and the man’s clear gaze on his badge made the entire situation clear to him “Stop beating around the bush and say it already.”
Someone else is who speaks. The tall woman starts not with words, however, but by spitting on Santos’ uniform “You fucking traitor” her voice is both fierce and cold at the same time. A very emotional coldness.
“There we go” he sighs “Just… Move on. We’re not getting anything out of this conversation”
“Why?” It was the venlil in the group that started this time “These people hate you, they hate you for what you are! Why do you work for them?!”
Santos rubs his eyes and sighs “Because someone has to. Change only happens when you make it happen, simple as that”
“Change?!” another one of the humans howls “Do you think those people can change?! You know the truth, those fuckers have never done anything good!”
“You know, if you had read your history books…” Santos stares at the one who had just had their outburst “You’d remember that we once thought the very same about the police” there’s the sound of glass breaking, but he doesn’t reaction “And a lot of us still do”
The human staring him down shifts their gaze slightly at the broken window of the precinct, then back at Santos “A broken window is easy to fix” he shrugs “As I was saying. Same shit.” he crosses his arms again “There’s a role those people play, a role that needs to be played because it’s important. Different name, different problems, still the same shit. Gotta fix this, I’m doing my part” he then stares at the venlil in the group “You do yours. Simple as that.”
“Role?!” the venlil of the group steps closer “What role could they possibly have?! They only exist to hurt people!”
Santos steps back, and raises his eyes a little bit. Of course, the classics had shown themselves in this instance. With as many humans as there are in the crowd there were now quite a few objects in the air, most clearly aimed at the precinct behind him. Though given the failed arc of some of them it was clearly not just the humans indulging in such a tried and true method.
“I used to be a wildlife preserve ranger” Santos then focuses his gaze on the aggravated venlil “This is a frontier town, if you walk in the brushes with shorts you’ll walk out with your ankles numb. The athai out there are rather harmless, but they keep the sunspecks under control.” He takes another step back “Since coming here I’ve been pest control, had to catch an exotic animal set loose, investigated a murder, helped stop a child from taking her own life, stopped large scale fights, helped a dozen people avoid being arrested for self defense and helped break a fucking siege”
Santos cracks his knuckles “There’s roles. Jobs that need done and there is one fucking organization doing it all. That is a problem.” Then, he sighs and takes a few more steps to the side, offering indifference from this point on “There’s nothing I can say that would make you calm down.” he says one final time “Just make sure not to injure yourselves in the process, alright?” His words seemed to be enough to make the small group cease trying to interact, as the convoy had begun moving again. Though the one human who had called him a traitor gets one final parting shot at the precinct “Where the hell did you get an egg in this planet…” Santos says with a raised eyebrow as the projectile impacts the front door.
Keya stands by a large sign, the same one that welcomes you into Blackriver on one side and sees you out at the other, the official limit of the town. Her arms behind her back, her attention directly towards the front of the convoy as they march. Something gains the whole of her attention, the car in the front. Someone draws her focus, a human with a megaphone on top of the car. The man shouts words of encouragement at the people behind him with the megaphone before turning to his holopad, then he bends over downwards to discuss something with the driver.
She simply remains there, waiting for the convoy to pass. But instead of moving on out of the city, here the convoy stops completely. Keya observes as the further end of the convoy starts to slowly compact upon itself, and her ears pick up something “Alright everyone, start getting ready, next town over is more than a claw away, make sure you’ve left nothing behind” the words were not meant for her, nor for anyone too far. They come from the same man she had seen standing on top of the car, but he had now climbed down and was talking with a group of multiple species.
It is clear they have some degree of leadership, though the convoy does not stop cleanly nor does it begin to organize with alacrity they do respond to the group’s organization. So Keya keeps her focus on them as they point, wave and talk between themselves, others and devices. But at least one of them has noticed her attention, a gangly and light-skinned human with fire-red hair, the man that was atop the car. He starts walking in her direction, before turning around for one final set of commands as he walks backwards “And make sure the guys at the back got all the crap! We’re here to be heard, not to trash the city!” he says before turning back again to head towards her. A venlil with pure white fur erupts from inside the car he was riding, quickly dashing to his side as they notice where he was going.
In a few moments both have come up to her, the human looking down at her with the venlil bristles at his side “Saw anything interesting, fireman?”
“What are you doing here?”
“What? Isn’t it obvious?!” it was the venlil that roared a response “You saw all of it! You know what they’ve done to us! What they’ve done to everyone! And you still work for those brahking monsters! It’s like you’re thankful they made you a cripple!”
The human puts a hand on the venlil’s shoulder, calming her demeanor just a little bit “We’re here because honestly, we’re all too tired of being fucking ignored is what. So what the fuck are you gonna do?!”
“I have put the wrong emphasis” Keya says with her lack of tone. She can see the human shiver just a little bit “My task is to ensure the safety of this town. Your convoy is a danger. We have eight field-capable officers, we cannot ensure the safety of the residents against a group like yours. People will take actions for reasons, you have broadcast your reasons clearly. You have chosen this place for a reason which I cannot ascertain.”
She makes sure her ears are trained towards both the human and the venlil, an action which causes the venlil to cower behind her partner “We do not house government agencies. This is a farming town of little note. The local precinct is a simple precinct, we have no regulatory or command authority. The town population is approximately double that of the number of your convoy. We have no individuals of appreciable social or political reach. There is nothing in Blackriver of interest to people attempting to change government policy, nor have there been actions taken here that I can identify as being cause for retaliatory actions within the context of your message.”
“I must ensure this does not happen again and the only way of doing so is minimizing our attractivity as targets. A logical assumption of your choice of quarry would be a town with the presence of politicians, a large city with constant news coverage, cities housing important government agencies or those containing the Regional Firebases”
“So I ask again. What are you doing here?”
The two remain silent for a few seconds, before the human turns around with a mouth noise “Whatever, I don’t need to explain myself to someone that won’t listen. Come on!” he starts to stalk back towards the car, but stops once he notices his venlil companion wasn’t moving.
The snow-white venlil has their focus on Keya, who offers a simple low forward swipe of her tail, a sign to proceed. Still, the venlil seems frozen in place until the human comes back and grabs hold of their paw with a gentle touch. At which point both finally return to the convoy.
Keya remains at the side of the road, watching as the convoy readies itself again to leave. People get back inside cars, they hop on the back of trucks and load themselves into buses. She continues to watch as the convoy takes its time riding out, making their way out of the town.
Once it is finally gone, multiple footsteps sound behind her. When she turns around she meets her officers, having returned from their assigned positions “They have left. I expect your reports of what happened in each sector by the end of your shifts” she states plainly, before looking at Santos “They did not appear to have a specific reason for targeting Blackriver.” The question remains unspoken.
The human officer just shrugs “Sometimes, you don’t know what you’re doing. We’re just a little town, I doubt they even know what exactly they’re angry about.” He looks at the tail end of the convoy as it leaves “Town was probably just a place they felt safe going to.”
“D-do you think we might get more like that” Lunek says, at the back of the group.
“Who knows…” Santos sighs “But if human history applies anywhere here… This is just a sign of worse things to come”

And thus the omen passes by. Feelings, emotions of all sorts, without a plan or a reason other than just their own rage and distress.
Did any of these even know what they were doing? And how much worse can it be when they do?

Season 10 “Days of Fury” - Episode 2 “Visiting Omen”
He had hoped for a boring day. Boring days are good at work, and Santos was already expecting to not have many of them for a while.The first couple of days were boring, as usual- Blackriver is a small town, and the worst that had happened was Nila and Kessa making a few wellness checks after worried calls from neighbors. A couple of people in denial, a few ashamed at their own violent outbursts and a stern warning to Tamm about painting others’ properties without asking first.
This morning, however, began with an all-hands meeting. There were no meeting rooms in the office, so they made do in the general workspace room, they all stood there at the center while Keya looked them over.
“We have received a report from a neighboring city about a convoy of protestors making its way to Blackriver” she describes without tone. At this point nobody bothers interrupting.
“This convoy is comprised of approximately four hundred and seventy eight individuals of multiple species, primarily human and venlil but with operationally relevant representations of the entire spectrum of size and mobility types” her paws are behind her back, her ears focused directly ahead, her eyes centered to keep the entire team on the core of her focus “They have crossed multiple cities already, generally engaging in verbal sparring with any figure of authority, parading signs and banners denouncing all manners of authorities as well as occasionally engaging in physical altercations with officers.”
“They are also known to engage in vandalism. Though primarily aimed at exterminator and police precincts as well as public offices, they have already caused considerable collateral to others they have identified as ‘collaborators’” there’s a single heartbeat of waiting for breath before she continues “They have, however, not shown to be an incredibly organized group or one with a clear goal and objective. The convoy appears to contain only extremely emotionally charged people with no clear overarching goal.”
“We are incapable of dealing with the situation should they turn aggressive, as such we will be simply maintaining watch and relocating the populace should they become a problem.” Then, she picks up her holopad and passes it to Lunek beside her “They can only follow one path with the entire convoy, the central street, therefore I have divided it into four sectors. One of each will be assigned to a sector.”
First her ears turn to the first target “Lunek, sector one at the entrance. As the most approachable member of the precinct your task is to give an initial image of harmlessness. Do not engage first, do not take initiative against them. Ensure the members of the herd in the area are warned of their approach. If they become aggressive, retreat and focus on the escape of the herd.”
She tilts her head a little bit, turning her ears the other way “Marik, sector two. Mostly the commercial area, your task is ostensive protection to lower the chances of them initiating aggression. Whereas protection of the herd is first priority your second priority is ensuring Tenve’s Hardware Store as well as Sunbreeze Meals and Watchful Café remain capable of providing anyone whose residences become damaged.” suddenly, she turns her head entirely to face Marik “Ostensive protection means dissuasion, ensure that they know they are not under threat and as long as those specific areas are not engaged, do not provoke”
Next in her line of fire is Santos “As our human officer you will be in sector three, nearby the precinct. They are liable to become most agitated in this area and your presence may serve to calm them. You are not to engage, if deemed necessary the precinct’s materials are considered expendable, do not attempt to stop them”
“Sector four, the exit of town, will be with me to ensure that they have fully left Blackriver and will not attempt to turn back” then she tilts her ears again “Aren, you will gear up with a CCG and remain out of view range, your task will be quick emergency response should the need arise.” she then points her tail at the last three officers “Vess, your task will be to inform the herd and ensure a clear path for the convoy while Nila and Kessa will gather all of our medical supplies and set a staging area out of the convoy’s range. Organize ambulance assistance from Striped Hill and Everrain”
Then, she turns her ears around to focus each one in turn “As any attempt at aggression will end only in negative consequences, and in order to reduce the apparent levels of threat you will be unarmed. The estimated time of arrival is a third of a claw, ready yourselves and be at your post in time. Dismissed.”
“Not sure if I like or I don’t that we had the cold bastard right now” Aren says, as soon as Keya had left the room “Maybe we should move in closer when the convoy gets to sector four?”
“Probably a good idea to be nearby” Santos adds with a sigh “They might take umbrage with her demeanor, hopefully they won’t be set off too hard.”
And with silent signs of agreement all of the officers of Blackriver depart for preparations. The first ones to leave the precinct are the ones in charge of support, the two girls set off early to find someone willing to permit usage of their lawn as a possible impromptu field hospital and a little while later Aren leaves with a heavy CCG.
Slowly, the clock ticks to the appointed claw… And soon enough, Lunek can see in the distance the incoming omen of people. At first a distant line in the horizon, slowly the dark mark on the road coalesces into distinct shapes, the shapes of hundreds of vehicles slowly rolling down the road.
When the first few get close to the initial buildings of the main street, the entire convoy slows down. Their process of preparation is seemingly laborious, each vehicle houses multiple people at a time, smaller cars full to the brim, flatbeds with more people on their cargo space than can safely be contained, even buses conscripted for the effort. They carry with them signs, flags, a multitude of symbols as they dismount their vehicles and start spreading out to fill the street.
They seem to naturally form two distinct yet highly mixed groups, at its most distinctive is the pack of humans who keep a good distance from each other. But they are not alone in this group as takkan, mazic, yotul, zurulian and even drilvar form this central group. But flowing around them, not avoiding their presence but never infringing in their space is the grey mass of venlil, packed tight together, and mixed in there adding color to the monochromatic flux are krakotl, tilfish, sulean, iftali, sivkit and even a seemingly very confused duerten.
And at the very core of the moving group are their vehicles, which gently start rolling forward again as the group starts moving. Lunek simply waits, silently, by the side of the road, his ears attentively swiveling from one side to the other, expression having given way to function. Before the first of the convoy even arrives close he turns to the side, making a pointing sign with his tail. A woman who had been watching from her yard flicks her right ear and runs back inside.
He continues to wait, scanning around at all times for the presence of… Anything. The street is empty of locals when the first visitors start to alight. The convoy is loud, their symbols carry a loudness of colors and their vehicles make as much noise as they can to draw attention, but those who walk seem content in allowing their tools to speak for them, for now. Lunek tries to make sense of the banners and signs, but the messages are disparate as the group- Some speak of injustices against their people, some speak of anger at invaders, some speak of betrayal.
“Fuck off, fireman!” comes the harsh bark of a human, causing Lunek to flinch. But flinch is all he does, he simply starts walking alongside the moving convoy.
The exterminator’s attention is drawn to the details of the few people he can distinguish amongst the mass. Something tickles at his pattern-recognition but he cannot quite ascertain what for a while, until a lightly limping mazic makes her way to the edge of the mass “Want to finish the job?!” she trumpets, her form towering over his.
“I’m just observing, ma’am.” Though the tremor of his voice is noticeable, he remains stoic. But her proximity makes him notice something about her body, marks in her wrists, neck and feet. Though mazic have powerful wrists and knuckles upon which they support the front half of their weight, her left wrist seems completely incapable of it, giving her a limp particular to a three-point walk. “To make sure there’s no impediment on your path” he notices the leathery skin around her left wrist is deeply blackened.
“Oh, ‘no impediment’ is that it? So everyone that lives here is an impediment?!” her voice booms.
“Ma’am” still, he does not yield nor does he break his pace following the convoy “We have not done anything other than inform our people of your presence…” for a half second all he hears is the sound of his own heart “We can’t do anything else.”
Those words, then, sealed his fate. The first shout to echo in his direction was a yotul howling “Yeah you’re useless!” and soon the avalanche came in multiple voices and languages “Can’t do shit!” “You’re just here to hurt people!” “Useless crap!” “Idiot!” and many more.
With every step and twitch the very average exterminator puts all of his focus on just being there. He lets himself cower a little bit, against the barrage it is difficult not to, but he continues to accompany. A few curious coats step out from their houses to watch, but the front of the convoy seems far too focused on the sole exterminator in view to bother anyone else.
A few steps ahead, an older venlil with a cane has moved the closest to the convoy as any watcher has up to now. Seeing her proximity to the increasingly rowdy crowd causes Lunek to speed up, quickly approaching her “Leva-”
But his words are stalled when she puts a paw on his shoulder, she gently puts her head against his for just a second “You’re doing good pup, keep at it” she mutters to him before breaking contact and turning around to walk back inside. He can spy her grandchildren looking on through the door. Lunek looks back at the still-shouting moving convoy, takes a deep breath, and continues to accompany them forward. A small pawful of them, however, seem to have fallen silent.
Once having reached the limit of his assigned zone, however, Lunek stops. He watches the convoy move forward, past the houses, now noisier than before. The initial hollering at him had turned into disjointed screams at some indistinct foe- Though the herd had been noticed of a foe, it was yet unaware of who, or what, said foe was. So for now it howled at the ineptitude of… Someone. And as the last of the convoy passes beyond the imaginary line of his duty, Lunek lets out a deep sigh and allows himself to sit down on the ground.
He stays there for a moment, without thought, simply letting the tension, confusion and fear permeate his body until a gentle paw touches his arm. He doesn’t need to look to identify it, he lets his lover use her strength to prop him up, raising him to his feet “Keina you shouldn’t-”
“Neighbor’s looking over Tiss” his wife wraps her arms and tail around him “I’m not leaving you alone.” she stays like that for a second, before breaking off “Do you need to go after them?”
“No”
Marik stalks through the sidewalk, moving with energy. His speed outpaces the movement of the convoy, his paws twitch to grasp at something that isn’t there and a deep and intense motion makes his short fur stand on end. He had let the convoy’s head move in front of him, simply standing still as he assessed as many as he could in the mass, and now he had begun to move towards the front again.
As he stalked forward he focused his sight on every member of the convoy that seemed of interest. A human whose clothes seemed suspiciously loose, a venlil whose movements were far too stiff, a gojid who kept his claws behind his back. He stared at each like they were his quarry, analyzing every piece of movement they made for threats, and yet aside from the challenge in the human’s gaze he saw no danger arise.
Tenve had closed his shop, so as the convoy moved forward Marik simply continued to follow along, scanning the crowd for threats. But the next point of interest arrives, and he rushes ahead placing himself in front of the only restaurant of the town. Sunbreeze Meals wasn’t a very common sort of restaurant, Blackriver did not have enough visitors for a normal restaurant to be profitable and was small enough most people had their meals at home, it most often served takeout for those farmers who’d spend so long in the field they would return home without the energy to feed themselves.
Sparing a look inside at the only five tables, Marik couldn’t keep a small thought away from his mind. How most who got their meals from Sunbreeze these days did so because they enjoyed the cooking rather than their need of work, ever since the sunspeck population has been brought under control and the maintenance of the fields had become much smaller. He feels the presence long before he can recognize what led him to feel it and turns to stare at a group of six that approach the entrance: Two humans, a tilfish, two gojids and a takkan had broken off from the convoy and approached the restaurant.
He traces his color band over each in turn, and they all bristle at his stare. One of the humans hesitates before continuing to walk inside, and Marik simply remains by the door with his arms crossed, left ear twisted as far back as he could to listen to the inside.
“What have you got here?”
“W-we mostly ha-have ready ma-made meals to go or- or- Or you can look over the menu”
“There’s no need to stutter, y’know”
“So-sorry-”
“Really, after everything y’all are still with this predator crap?”
The chimes on the door echo for the second time in sequence as Marik makes his way inside. The tilfish had started to lean over the counter while the other five had arrayed themselves behind her. They all turn their attention to him as he enters, including the venlil manning the counter. Marik keeps his gaze directly on the tilfish for a few uncomfortable seconds, before looking at the man behind the counter and making a simple sign with his tail, a short vertical bob with the tip and a slow horizontal swipe. It’s meaning simple: >Safe<.
After a few seconds someone else appears from the kitchen. The tall venlil carries a large stack of plastic boxes in his arms, all of them seemingly designed to attach to themselves so as to be carried with ease. He puts them down with a resounding crash on the counter, and opens up his voice with ice “Farmer’s Pots, good meal when you’re working and can’t go home.” With each word the owner of the restaurant and main cook comes closer and closer to the tilfish, until the last “Ten credits each.”
Nobody moves for a couple of seconds, and then one of the humans steps closer and brings a holopad over to the credit reader. There’s a noise indicating payment, and then the owner raises his head and tilts it to focus his favored eye and both of his ears at the man who paid “Now,” he shifts register in his voice and the language he speaks in “fuck off” he finishes.
With no small amount of surprise the group of six retrieve the stack of packaged meals, carefully walking out and back into the convoy. Marik stays behind for a moment “Didn’t know you spoke human”
“Pup’s enamored with their languages. Of course, first greek words he learns is swearing.”
Outside, Marik stalks further ahead to the next point of interest. He moves faster than the convoy, and has time to move in front of it. For a few meters the street is still clear as he arrives to find a group of people standing in front of the Watchful. Standing there were all of its employees, and even all of its regulars, twenty people total standing there as if they were having the most normal day. If not for their raised ears tracking every noise coming from down the street and their swaying tails swinging about like angry beasts.
One of them simply points his tail at the other side of the street as Marik comes closer, and the hunter doesn’t need a second command to understand the meaning. They have this, he has a less practical but just as important duty. He crosses the street quickly before the convoy starts coming closer, and heads towards the park.
As the regulars of the Watchful had feared, it took little time until a large group had broken off from the convoy. With the town on alert about the convoy they had found themselves bereft of prey and now this group had set out to find some, anyone who might be willing, or not, to listen to their grievances. And what is clearly a place designed for people to congregate looked most appetizing.
Marik shadowed the group as they moved through the park, but they were accompanied by nothing but silence. It wasn’t until they ran into the centerpiece of the park that he took initiative, stepping ahead of the group and simply… Standing there a distance away from the tree of many scions, between it and the group.
“What’s so important over there, fireman?” it was a venlil who asked, but his usage of an english word was not lost on Marik.
“A place you will respect” the exterminator has his arms crossed, the one good portion of his gaze set on the man who asked “This is a grave.”
Though the group that now prowled was large, those who heard were taken aback. One such, however, approaches closer. He was a venlil whose fur shifted between a soft, brownish color and a dirty white “A tradition of the tenets right? One of those family trees?” The man would have been distinctive in any other group due to his missing patches of fur around neck, wrists, even portions around his head. But such signs of long term damage were common in the convoy.
Interest. They had shown true interest, or at least one of them had. “No, but similar… The forgotten tree is a grave for the forgotten.” He felt like these people, at least the ones before him, could probably understand the meaning of this place “It is of no tradition. Someone, a long time ago, wanted to honor someone who was gone but whose name was not meant to be remembered. Someone who had disappeared in the system… So they borrowed on another’s tradition, and added a scion to this tree, with something in their memory. Others have done so similarly, until it became… A grave for the forgotten”
“Didn’t think you’d be worried about this kind of place” it’s a human that speaks up this time
“Our duty is to protect this town, what you think-” but Marik’s words are interrupted by that same venlil who had asked before. His demeanor suddenly shifts, his ears perk up and his entire body shifts forward for a moment. He hesitates, for a second everyone’s focus is on him, and then he runs towards the tree.
Marik follows behind, stopping just by the man’s side as he finds himself at the base of the tree. The man makes a direct line to somewhere, something he had found from the distance, as if it had called him. He finds a thick and heavy branch that had been bent down by the weight of its scions and memories, near its base and speaking of a memory left behind long ago is a braid of fur made of three colors, a dirty white, a soft brown and a dark grey, bound by the braids are two beads.
The man raises up a paw, but does not touch it. As if cradling it, he recites the words engraved in one of the beads “I will cross every star to return home” others have come closer to listen to the man’s hoarse voice “There will always be a home for you” he reads of the second one. The names on the beads have been scratched out. The man falls on his knees “S-she kept her promise and… I couldn’t keep mine…”
Marik steps back as he watches two others come closer to comfort the man. He looks as a few others approach with more caution, looking up at the tree with a bit more reverence than they had before. Then, he turns around and starts heading back towards the main street.
Gazing out as the convoy gains a new flux, some leave it as it passes to move towards the park while others leave the park to rejoin the convoy, Marik simply stays there at the side of the street looking as stern as he could. Though the noise of the convoy remains great, here in this portion it seems to die down a little. A thought crosses his mind as he turns an ear as far back as he can, a thought he can’t help but voice “I wonder how many are looking at their own graves…”
As the convoy progresses, Santos simply stands by the front of the precinct, hands in his pockets. He watches the convoy arrive, heart beating fast, constrained hands the only reason he hasn't started shaking quite yet. He starts tapping his right foot as he watches the first few people cross by without noticing what this place is yet, everyone knows where the precinct is, so aside from the words printed on the sign by the entrance there is no other marker of what this building’s purpose might be.
Of course, it is impossible for nobody to notice. The entire convoy seems to stop as soon as a zurulian riding on the shoulders of a human points a claw at the building and says something. A large group breaks away at the command, all of them holding disparate signs and messages. They turn on the building with enough roars that whatever they are attempting to transmit is lost on him.
Santos is thankful his hearing isn’t nearly as good as his coworkers’, as the cacophony is already overwhelming him. He changes stances slightly, taking his hands out of his pockets and crossing his arms. This prompts a small group to turn their looks at him, the focus easily identifiable with the humans in their midst, focus which made the hair in the back of Santos’ neck stand on end. Living in this place had refined his sense of danger, but he didn’t need that to realize what could happen.
It was a group of five that approached, four humans and a venlil. “Didn’t think they’d be letting humans live out here in the boonies” said one of his kin.
Santos just shrugs “Got hired to work here. Honestly, rural folk get a needlessly bad reputation, most of the time they just don’t care as long as you’re not bothering them”
“Really? In my-”
Santos interrupts the man “Cut it out” there are many ways in which humans make themselves obvious, many of which are their eyes. Santos did understand the fear of them and why it was primal, it was not the fear of the eyes but the fear of attention, it was knowing you were under the scrutiny and judgment of another that set off that emotion. It was rarely the eyes that showed this attention for most species, but for humans it was, and the man’s clear gaze on his badge made the entire situation clear to him “Stop beating around the bush and say it already.”
Someone else is who speaks. The tall woman starts not with words, however, but by spitting on Santos’ uniform “You fucking traitor” her voice is both fierce and cold at the same time. A very emotional coldness.
“There we go” he sighs “Just… Move on. We’re not getting anything out of this conversation”
“Why?” It was the venlil in the group that started this time “These people hate you, they hate you for what you are! Why do you work for them?!”
Santos rubs his eyes and sighs “Because someone has to. Change only happens when you make it happen, simple as that”
“Change?!” another one of the humans howls “Do you think those people can change?! You know the truth, those fuckers have never done anything good!”
“You know, if you had read your history books…” Santos stares at the one who had just had their outburst “You’d remember that we once thought the very same about the police” there’s the sound of glass breaking, but he doesn’t reaction “And a lot of us still do”
The human staring him down shifts their gaze slightly at the broken window of the precinct, then back at Santos “A broken window is easy to fix” he shrugs “As I was saying. Same shit.” he crosses his arms again “There’s a role those people play, a role that needs to be played because it’s important. Different name, different problems, still the same shit. Gotta fix this, I’m doing my part” he then stares at the venlil in the group “You do yours. Simple as that.”
“Role?!” the venlil of the group steps closer “What role could they possibly have?! They only exist to hurt people!”
Santos steps back, and raises his eyes a little bit. Of course, the classics had shown themselves in this instance. With as many humans as there are in the crowd there were now quite a few objects in the air, most clearly aimed at the precinct behind him. Though given the failed arc of some of them it was clearly not just the humans indulging in such a tried and true method.
“I used to be a wildlife preserve ranger” Santos then focuses his gaze on the aggravated venlil “This is a frontier town, if you walk in the brushes with shorts you’ll walk out with your ankles numb. The athai out there are rather harmless, but they keep the sunspecks under control.” He takes another step back “Since coming here I’ve been pest control, had to catch an exotic animal set loose, investigated a murder, helped stop a child from taking her own life, stopped large scale fights, helped a dozen people avoid being arrested for self defense and helped break a fucking siege”
Santos cracks his knuckles “There’s roles. Jobs that need done and there is one fucking organization doing it all. That is a problem.” Then, he sighs and takes a few more steps to the side, offering indifference from this point on “There’s nothing I can say that would make you calm down.” he says one final time “Just make sure not to injure yourselves in the process, alright?” His words seemed to be enough to make the small group cease trying to interact, as the convoy had begun moving again. Though the one human who had called him a traitor gets one final parting shot at the precinct “Where the hell did you get an egg in this planet…” Santos says with a raised eyebrow as the projectile impacts the front door.
Keya stands by a large sign, the same one that welcomes you into Blackriver on one side and sees you out at the other, the official limit of the town. Her arms behind her back, her attention directly towards the front of the convoy as they march. Something gains the whole of her attention, the car in the front. Someone draws her focus, a human with a megaphone on top of the car. The man shouts words of encouragement at the people behind him with the megaphone before turning to his holopad, then he bends over downwards to discuss something with the driver.
She simply remains there, waiting for the convoy to pass. But instead of moving on out of the city, here the convoy stops completely. Keya observes as the further end of the convoy starts to slowly compact upon itself, and her ears pick up something “Alright everyone, start getting ready, next town over is more than a claw away, make sure you’ve left nothing behind” the words were not meant for her, nor for anyone too far. They come from the same man she had seen standing on top of the car, but he had now climbed down and was talking with a group of multiple species.
It is clear they have some degree of leadership, though the convoy does not stop cleanly nor does it begin to organize with alacrity they do respond to the group’s organization. So Keya keeps her focus on them as they point, wave and talk between themselves, others and devices. But at least one of them has noticed her attention, a gangly and light-skinned human with fire-red hair, the man that was atop the car. He starts walking in her direction, before turning around for one final set of commands as he walks backwards “And make sure the guys at the back got all the crap! We’re here to be heard, not to trash the city!” he says before turning back again to head towards her. A venlil with pure white fur erupts from inside the car he was riding, quickly dashing to his side as they notice where he was going.
In a few moments both have come up to her, the human looking down at her with the venlil bristles at his side “Saw anything interesting, fireman?”
“What are you doing here?”
“What? Isn’t it obvious?!” it was the venlil that roared a response “You saw all of it! You know what they’ve done to us! What they’ve done to everyone! And you still work for those brahking monsters! It’s like you’re thankful they made you a cripple!”
The human puts a hand on the venlil’s shoulder, calming her demeanor just a little bit “We’re here because honestly, we’re all too tired of being fucking ignored is what. So what the fuck are you gonna do?!”
“I have put the wrong emphasis” Keya says with her lack of tone. She can see the human shiver just a little bit “My task is to ensure the safety of this town. Your convoy is a danger. We have eight field-capable officers, we cannot ensure the safety of the residents against a group like yours. People will take actions for reasons, you have broadcast your reasons clearly. You have chosen this place for a reason which I cannot ascertain.”
She makes sure her ears are trained towards both the human and the venlil, an action which causes the venlil to cower behind her partner “We do not house government agencies. This is a farming town of little note. The local precinct is a simple precinct, we have no regulatory or command authority. The town population is approximately double that of the number of your convoy. We have no individuals of appreciable social or political reach. There is nothing in Blackriver of interest to people attempting to change government policy, nor have there been actions taken here that I can identify as being cause for retaliatory actions within the context of your message.”
“I must ensure this does not happen again and the only way of doing so is minimizing our attractivity as targets. A logical assumption of your choice of quarry would be a town with the presence of politicians, a large city with constant news coverage, cities housing important government agencies or those containing the Regional Firebases”
“So I ask again. What are you doing here?”
The two remain silent for a few seconds, before the human turns around with a mouth noise “Whatever, I don’t need to explain myself to someone that won’t listen. Come on!” he starts to stalk back towards the car, but stops once he notices his venlil companion wasn’t moving.
The snow-white venlil has their focus on Keya, who offers a simple low forward swipe of her tail, a sign to proceed. Still, the venlil seems frozen in place until the human comes back and grabs hold of their paw with a gentle touch. At which point both finally return to the convoy.
Keya remains at the side of the road, watching as the convoy readies itself again to leave. People get back inside cars, they hop on the back of trucks and load themselves into buses. She continues to watch as the convoy takes its time riding out, making their way out of the town.
Once it is finally gone, multiple footsteps sound behind her. When she turns around she meets her officers, having returned from their assigned positions “They have left. I expect your reports of what happened in each sector by the end of your shifts” she states plainly, before looking at Santos “They did not appear to have a specific reason for targeting Blackriver.” The question remains unspoken.
The human officer just shrugs “Sometimes, you don’t know what you’re doing. We’re just a little town, I doubt they even know what exactly they’re angry about.” He looks at the tail end of the convoy as it leaves “Town was probably just a place they felt safe going to.”
“D-do you think we might get more like that” Lunek says, at the back of the group.
“Who knows…” Santos sighs “But if human history applies anywhere here… This is just a sign of worse things to come”
And thus the omen passes by. Feelings, emotions of all sorts, without a plan or a reason other than just their own rage and distress.
Did any of these even know what they were doing? And how much worse can it be when they do?

The entire last 20 minutes of this episode are amazing from an already amazing episode overall. From the “That’s business 102” joke to the “You’re not serious people” line it has many parts that make this one of my favorite episodes.
Two things take the cake for me. The first is the rewatch factor. Knowing what happens next, leaves a huge cloud over everyone’s heads. Logan’s last attempt to manipulate his children all at once; the kid’s tired of it; and Con’s actual “getting melancholy everywhere”.

Ok, so I (25 f), was hosting a birthday party for my nephew's 17th birthday (I was hosting because his mom/my sister doesn't like house parties) at my house. My nephew is gay, and my family all accepted him (or so I thought) so having a couple of pride flags in my house shouldn't be much of a problem? My nephew asked for rainbow decor and how could I say no, I'm an Ally and I could afford it, so it shouldn't have been a problem. Anyway, the day comes, and him and his friends start to pile in. My sistehis mom and his dad/my brother in law had a doctors appointment so they didn't join us, but my parents/my nephews grandparents did. The event was running smoothly, until my nephew cut the cake. It was rainbow tiered (which he asked for) but when he gave a slice so my parents/his grandparents, they both threw away the cake, and started to make a scene, screaming that 'NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ABOUT YOUR STUPID LGBT WHATEVER BULLSHIT ALL THE DAMN TIME' and throwing his pride flags in the trash. I told them to leave firmly, maybe calling them old hags in the process. Still, they storm out and blast all the rest of the family a dramatised version of the story, and now I have over 150 messages from family members I don't even talk to, telling me that I shouldn't shove the community in everyone's face all the time. I added a few pride flags and had a rainbow cake because my nephew wanted it, is that so bad? Anyway my nephew hasn't been talking to anyone, and my sistehis mom is telling me I am the a**hole and I should apologise. I don't see what I've done wrong, but AITA?

There was no one to blow my cover because my family and I don't speak, so they never met. And I met her right after I moved to a new city so all my friends were new. She only met one of my old friends and I told him to never tell her when I am born. One time she saw my ID but I told her they put in the wrong date and it would be too much of a hassle to get it fixed.
I have never been much of a birthday guy so it didn't make a difference to change it to the 27th of April. I told her I don't like parties but she would spend a lot of time baking me a cake and making sure the day felt special and we would go out. I always loved how much effort she put into that day.

Without a clear consensus on draft prospects where 8-10 guys are all within the same tier, this draft cycle will see a lot of teams looking to move around and potentially trade down. The Blazers are in a unique position with 4 picks in the top-40, a few veteran players which will interest teams, and an all-star caliber player they might be looking to trade away. Now that the order is settled, I want to look at the Blazers assets, objectives, and 5 teams who are likely trade partners.
Primary Trade Assets:
Not only are assets important, but the overall objectives of the offseason. The way I see it, here are the Blazers objectives:
Philadelphia:

Now that the order is settled, I want to look at the Blazers assets, objectives, and 5 teams who are likely trade partners.
Primary Trade Assets:
- #7, #14, #34, #40 - The Blazers are in a good position to add talent in this year's draft and have a lot of flexibility to move around. At 7, they'll be able to draft one of those top tier players. At 14, there will be a at least one or two swings (Saluan, Missi, Williams, Dadiet, etc.) as well as really solid players (Carter, McCain, Da Silva, Knecht) available depending on who falls vs. rises. The two second round picks give us the opportunity to move up into the late first or might be valuable enough to move up a couple slots from #7 or #14.
- Malcom Brogdon – Brogdon is in his final year for $22M. He is a 6MOTY caliber player which every single playoff team could use on their roster. So much so that, of all the teams remaining, he would play big minutes for all of them except Boston. He also has value to teams like Detroit who could use a veteran presence. His expiring deal gives the team flexibility to another team's reduce cap long term, trade at the deadline in a larger package, or look to extend on a more team friendly deal with bird rights. The general consensus is he is worth a mid to late first round pick, such as a lottery protected first round pick from a contender.
- Anfernee Simons – Simons has two years left of an AAV of $26M. Some fans think Simons is not worth much. I would disagree. Simons is one of a handful of players who generates elite on and off ball gravity in the NBA. Any team he goes to, he would transform their offensive spacing. We’ll talk about fits in a bit, but I would look for a Dejounte Murray like package; a high-end prospect and 2 good draft picks.
- Jerami Grant – Grant is owed 4 years with an AAV of $32M. NBA media types like to call that out as an overpay, but Grant’s salary as a percentage of cap will decrease through the length of the contract as the cap rises. Grant is another player who instantly improves a contender as a third option. I would aim for at least one good first round pick, a decent prospect, and potentially a pick swap.
- Robert Williams III – Timelord is on a great contract – 2 years with an AAV of $12M. With his injury history, his value is hard to determine, but his contract makes it an easy trade piece. Steven Adams got 3 second round picks, so I think that is his floor. He is likely worth more to the Blazers than other teams at this juncture.
- Matisse Thybulle – Thybulle is another tradeable contract – 2 years with an AAV of $11M. The second year is a player option. I do not see him having negative value on that deal, but we are looking at 1-2 second round picks + a flier prospect.
- Jabari Walker – I like Jabari, but in the context of our rebuild, he is the odd man out. I think he might have some value in the league for a real future second.
- Dalano Banton – Similar to Jabari, he was a great find this year. With his performance, could be a good sweetener in a trade or be able to trade for a real future second round pick.
Not only are assets important, but the overall objectives of the offseason. The way I see it, here are the Blazers objectives:
- Get more high-end talent, trading up may help guarantee us getting the best players we can. We should also aim to get a high caliber player who has already shown flashes in the NBA on a rookie scale deal.
- Get more shooting, we should definitely keep at least one of Brogdon, Grant, or Simons. I am in favor of trading Simons as he has the most value, and Grant / Brogdon are essential to giving our young guys enough spacing to develop. I also highly value shooting in this draft for that reason. The more spacing we have; the more likely Scoot and Sharpe develop into dudes.
- Get under the luxury tax. There is a lot of consternation and clickbait discussion the salary situation. It is massively overblown – the bigger priority is to simply consolidate the roster down to 14 active players. If we kept our two current first round picks, and cut Jabari and Banton, our salary would be: $172.6M. The Luxury tax threshold is 171.3M, a difference of just $1.3M.
- Consolidate roster / draft picks. We have 14 players on the roster with 4 draft picks. We should aim to consolidate around more high-end talent.
- Get more picks in 2025 / 2026. These are great drafts, and we'll have a better idea of our needs next year.
- (Nice to have) Get the future first unlocked from the Bulls. There is no urgency on the Blazers part to part with the pick. There is a chance it never conveys into a first (silver lining of us being terrible!). If it does, it is outside the lottery, and we are a good team. That said, if there is an opportunity for us to trade a second round pick this year to get control of that pick back, it is not a bad move.
Philadelphia:
- Cap Space: Up to $65M.
- Draft Assets: #16, #41
- The 76ers can trade their 2024 first-round pick (16) starting the night of the draft. They also have the least favorable 2026 first from Oklahoma City, Houston (if 5-30) and the Clippers. They are owed an unprotected first from the Clippers in 2028 and have the right to swap firsts with LA in 2029 (if 4-30). In total, Philadelphia can trade up to five firsts starting in late June.
- Targets: Brogdon, Grant, RWIII
- Explainer: Philadelphia has a ton of cap space. They will likely make a run at George, LeBron, maybe Derozan, but if they strike out, they will want to look at the trade market. Grant feels like an ideal fit to pair with Maxey and Embiid. Brogdon is another option for them. This might be a good trade destination for Jabari and / or Banton, who can provide them with good depth to rebuild their roster on very team friendly contracts as sweeteners.
- Trades:
- Jerami Grant, Jabari Walker, Dalano Banton for #16, Least Favorable 2026 FRP, lottery protected 2030 FRP
- The Blazers get a pick this year, a pick next year, and a highly valuable first-round swap. To be honest, I have no idea the particulars here, but the point being is Grant for draft capital
- Malcom Brogdon for #16, 2027 second round from MIL, 2030 SRP from PHI.
- I could see us going for that least favorable 2026 FRP as well by including one or both our seconds.
- Jerami Grant, Jabari Walker, Dalano Banton for #16, Least Favorable 2026 FRP, lottery protected 2030 FRP
- Cap Space: Up to $66M.
- Draft Assets: #5, #53
- Detroit owes a first-round pick to New York that is top-12 protected in 2025, top-10 protected in 2026 and top-nine protected in 2027. The next available first-round pick the Pistons can trade is in 2029. They have no incoming first-round picks via trade. They have nine second-round picks available.
- Targets: Anfernee Simons, Malcom Brogdon
- Explainer: Detroit also has a ton of cap space, a lack of shooting, and a lack of veteran leadership. They could really use either Anfernee Simons or Malcom Brogdon. Simons is an ideal fit next to Cade to unlock the spacing Cade desperately needs. Detroit is also overhauling their front office, so who knows which players they value vs which they do not.
- Proposed Trades:
- Anfernee Simons & #14 for #5 and Ausar Thompson
- If the Pistons insist on keeping Ausar, Ivey is the player I would want. I would not include #14 in that scenario. Again, who knows how the new FO thinks about Ausar / Ivey.
- Malcom Brogdon & #7 for #5 and 2-3 SRP
- This trade assumes the Blazers have a target in mind at #5 they really want who might not make it to 7. Beyond that, the major benefit is giving the team substantially more cap and roster flexibility. It is possible we could include some real sweeteners, like Kris Murray, to move up from #14 to #5. We could also look to include #16 assuming we get it from PHI in a Grant trade. In that scenario, we would have to get one shooter like Risacher, Sheppard, or Knecht for one of those top 2 picks.
- Anfernee Simons & #14 for #5 and Ausar Thompson
- Cap Space: Up to $35 million
- Draft Assets: #18, #47
- The Magic are one of seven teams that control their own first-round pick over the next seven years. They can also trade swap rights each year. The Nuggets owe the Magic a first-round pick. It is top-5 protected in 2025, 2026 and 2027. Orlando has the right to swap its 2026 first for the less favorable of Phoenix and Washington. Orlando has 12 second-round picks available.
- Targets: Anfernee Simons, Malcom Brogdon
- Explainer: Much has been made of Anfernee Simons to the Magic, and for good reason. Aside from him being from Orlando, much like with Cade, Simons would unlock Paolo and Franz in a real way. For the Blazers, the Magic’s major draft assets and young talent of Anthony Black and Jett Howard are enticing. Brogdon is another option here if the Magic are looking for a one-year player to give them veteran leadership and spacing with more long-term flexibility.
- Proposed Trades:
- Anfernee Simons, #40 for Anthony Black, #18, 2025 unprotected FRP, 2030 pick swap.
- Blazers get exactly what they are looking for, a major trade up in 2024, a high value prospect, a 2025 first, and a pick swap far into the future. Some do not think Black will fit with the Blazers, but that is a problem down the road. Let us see how he plays with our other core. Given how well Banton played, Black could be a much better version of him. Banton may also be a sweetener in the deal. Blazers could look to take on Cole Anthony’s contract as well to give the magic more cap flexibility. Another permutation could see RWII be swapped for WCJ or Thybulle.
- Malcom Brogdon, RWIII for a 2025 lottery protected FRP, WCJ.
- The Blazers accomplished two goals here. They get another FRP in 2025. While it may be lower in order, it is possible Orlando will take a small step back. Something in the late teens is very valuable in next year’s draft. We also gain cap flexibility, and swap RWIII for WCJ who have extremely similar contracts.
- Anfernee Simons, #40 for Anthony Black, #18, 2025 unprotected FRP, 2030 pick swap.
- Cap Space: Likely none.
- Draft Assets: #11
- The Bulls can trade their own 2024 first-round pick starting on the night of the draft. They owe a first-round pick to the Spurs that is top-10 protected in 2025 and top-8 protected in 2026 or 2027. They are owed a first-round pick from Portland that is top-14 protected over the next four years. If the first is not conveyed, the Trail Blazers will send a 2028 second. The Bulls have three second-round picks available.
- Targets: Jerami Grant, Malcom Brogdon, Matisse Thybulle, Deandre Ayton
- Explainer: The Bulls are looking to still be competitive enough to sell seats and be stuck in mediocrity. They are likely looking to build around Coby White. The Blazers have plenty of high-level role players which could be interesting. For the Blazers, they could target trading up from 14 to 11, targeting Pat Williams in a S&T, and getting that flexibility back as a Sweetener.
- Proposed Trades:
- #34, 2028 SRP for the rights for the Blazers pick back
- The Bulls might really like someone at 34 and value it as a first-round pick value. If that is the case, and the Blazers are not as enamored with someone in that range, it is advantageous for both sides to resolve the pick now.
- Malcom Brogdon, #14 for Lonzo Ball, #11, rights to the Blazers pick back.
- Like the above trade, the Bulls might value bringing in Brogdon to improve their roster. All it costs them is dumping Lonzo’s contract, moving 3 spots back in the draft, and the Blazers pick back. Blazers could put in #40 as a sweetener.
- Patrick Williams S&T (5 years - ~$125M), Jevon Carter, Dalen Terry, for Jerami Grant
- This trade is a bit more complicated, but the framework is Patrick Williams for Jerami Grant. If the Blazers are high on Williams and the Bulls might not want to commit to him, the Bulls get an immediate upgrade to “win now.” The additional salary could come from a few different angles, but I would like to also like to get Dalen Terry or Julian Phillips as a sweetener. If Williams gets a bit more salary, then less salary filler is necessary. High risk, High reward for Blazers.
- #34, 2028 SRP for the rights for the Blazers pick back
- Cap Space: Likely None
- Trade Exception: The Grizzlies have a $12.6 million dollar trade exception from the Steven Adams, which RWIII and Thybulle can fit into.
- Draft Assets: #9, #39, #57
- The Grizzlies control their own first-round picks over the next seven years. They also have the right to swap their own 2026 first for the less favorable of Phoenix, Orlando, and Washington. The Grizzlies also have the right to swap their own 2030 first for the less favorable of the Suns and Wizards. Memphis has six second-round picks available.
- Targets: #7, RWIII, Matisse Thybulle
- Explainer: Memphis may be incentivized to trade-up a couple slots if they are enamored with Donovon Clingan (or another prospect) and he is there at #7. They also might be interested in trading back to #14 if they are more interested in a center available in that range, such as Missi, Edey, Ware, etc. I have a feeling this is a team that will target Edey given their history of valuing analytics and not caring as much about physical attributes.
- Proposed Trades:
- #7 for #9 and Vince Williams Jr
- Sam Vecenie proposed this trade. The Blazers move back two slots and get a good young wing.

My son is turning 1 in a few weeks and I am SO excited. My husband and I booked a shelter at a local park that we get all day, but party is just from 2-4. I’ve ordered personalized invitations and mailed out the majority of them. Finishing up this weekend. I bought dinosaur-themed plates and cups. I bought his birthday outfit and a back-up. Bought a little dinosaur decoration for his high chair and some cake toppers. Plan to order his cake soon. Already have some streamers from previous parties. I haven’t gotten his gift(s) yet but money is tight and of course we’re getting him something special, but I know either way he’d be happy with just a box lol. Getting balloons the day or two before, I took a few days off of work just for prep and our local party store does the orders same-day or next day for helium balloons, you can’t order this far in advance. For food we’re just going to order pizza and wings. Will be 20-30 people.
If I’m missing any of the tangible things needed let me know, but I’m mainly concerned about how the party will actually run. What do you DO at a 1 year old’s birthday party? I thought maybe a short party game or two would be fun. Perhaps a game, then food, then sing happy birthday and cake? I realize Penacony's quest is yet to finish, and Acheron will most probably be explored further down the line as the story progresses even beyond Penacony, but I wanted to get this out just as I am feeling it (plus, I dare to say that we do have a big picture of who Acheron is by now, so I doubt something drastic will happen to change this, but only time can tell).
This sentiment originates from the direct parallel from her Genshin Impact counterpart: Raiden Shogun, or more specifically, Ei. I am not going to get into details regarding this character, that's not the point of discussion I want to convey here. What I wanted to point out is how this character has been a hot spot for controvery for three years within the Genshin community. And with her being my favorite character from that game, it just infuriates me how she has always been so "villainified" and misunderstood, taking all her negative attributes to hyperbolic extremes that make her out to be worse than she actually is. I guess I can only blame the writing for this. I would also try to add anything related to Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact, but I am not familiar with the game, and I do NOT speak about things I don't know.
But with Acheron, the atmosphere feels different, more positive even. And I guess it is also due to her writting. I cannot think of anything she has done that can be considered morally grey, or even bad. She has been one of the key people in freeing Penacony from Ena's dream. Everything that surrounds her just makes the audience respect her. She fought against millions of demons in a futile attempt to save her planet. She endured the, debatably, most dangerous Aeon the game has. She has taken upon herself the meaningless task of guiding the lost souls to rest. Her ultimate goal is to kill the very same being that made her life, and many other lost souls, a misery. She has also shown numerous times she never retorts to violent means if she can solve the issue without it (She has been taunted to fight by 6 people so far: Duke Inferno, Aventurine, Welt, Sam, the Dream Master and Boothill. Out of them, only two were struck down, because they wouldn't accept any other solution but to fight). Her presence even clashes with what we know of Self-Annihilators. Despite being close to becoming a shell of what she once was, and currently being an Emanator of Nihility no less, her view of what life is is actually very hopeful and warm. She is a hero and a warrior through and through, and I am happy to see that the general reception of her character seems to be a positive one.
The only thing I can think of that can make her look like a bad person is that if you got stuck into believing that what happened in the Rondo Across Countless Kalpas trailer was all literal. But I'd dare to say that you need to be too illiterate to not notice that it was mostly a metaphorical way of portraying the Nihility within herself, and what happens when anyone interacts too closely to what she went through, specially when that someone is a memetic entity of the Rememberance.
I know this may sound nonsensical, as they are different characters, so of course they are treated differently. You may be correct, I just found it curious that my favorite characters from both games turned out to be the "Raiden Mei" iteration of each game. So this is just the feeling of relief after seeing that "she" went from being hated and misunderstood endlessly for years, to being actually decently written, with a lot of positive traits that make her a very likeable character.
Was this post a stupid rant? Yes. Was it unnecessary? Possibly. But you could say that doing meaningless things is part of the beauty of Nihility.

(2 Sam. 11:16-17)Joab makes Uriah's death look like an accident rather than the result of betrayal: he simply puts a warrior in the hot seat. Along with Uriah, other warriors died. Why does Joab do things his own way and not directly fulfill David's order? On the one hand, it is obvious: as an experienced military commander, he quickly noticed the king's blunder and corrected it accordingly. On the other hand, when we read about his command to notify David of the event, we realize that Joab is not as simple a man as it may seem at first glance. What did Joab want? Let's look at the text of the commander's command to notify the king of the event: Then Jo´ab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; and charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king, and if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall? Who smote Abim´elech the son of Jerub´besheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also. (2 Sam. 11:18-21)1) It is striking that Joab is clearly not trying to avoid problems. Instead of telling the story of Uriah's death right away, the commander offers to recount the entire battle. 2) Joab thinks through David's future response in great detail. This suggests a commander who is portraying the king, expressively imitating the intonation and manner of speech of royalty in anger. It is beyond the scope of this article to go into the details of why Joab puts the story of Abimelech's death into David's mouth. Here we will only note that the commander anticipates the king's reaction (as we know from the subsequent story, David did not react in the way Joab portrayed). Why did Joab need all of this? Joab versus David It is paramount to note that the relationship between David and Joab was hardly a good one. The warlord had despicably murdered men who were dear to the king: Abenir (2 Samuel 3 ch.) and Absalom (4 Samuel 18 ch.). After the death of Abenir, David, realizing that he was dependent on Joab, nevertheless dared to openly voice his disagreement with the warlord: And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel? It is quite possible that Joab saw a worthy rival in David. Realizing that he could not become king, the warlord was simply trying to show his superiority over David. Returning to the story of Joab sending a messenger to notify David of Uriah's death, we can assume that he played David's reaction to show his superiority over David: "that my actions could so easily make David mad." We do not know with what intonation, facial expressions, and gestures Joab imitated David's reaction. But it is possible that he portrayed the king's helplessness, perhaps even hysteria. It is also worth noting here that Joab, though not directly, still obeyed the king and, in fact, gave some of the soldiers (including Uriah) to be killed. Why did he do this? It can also be explained by his cold strategic mind as a military commander. He was willing to use such an occasion to demonstrate to David his superior strategic thinking - if he had followed David's plan, the soldiers would have realized that any one of them could be in Uriah's place. In any case, the fact that Joab gives some of the soldiers to the death, fulfilling the king's orders, hardly makes him look good from a Christian moral standpoint. Three versions of Uriah's death When we read how the messenger at Joab's command notified the king, we realize that he is not quite listening to the warlord and lays out his own version: And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate. And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also. (2 Sam. 11:23-24)Thus we have three versions of the account of the battle in which Uriah was killed. The first is that of the author of Scripture himself (2 Kings 11:16-17); the second is that of Joab (2 Kings 11:18-21), and the third is that of his messenger (2 Kings 11:23-24). Comparing them, we find differences that deserve separate attention. In the messenger's account, the arrows killed Uriah as Joab's army (which included Uriah) pursued the enemy to the gates of the besieged city. In the Scripture author's account, the enemy came out of the city, fought Joab's army, and in the course of doing so, Uriah was killed. It can be assumed that the messenger seeks to make Uriah's death as accidental as possible (no one is safe from archers) and at the same time justifiable (the troops had taken the upper hand over the enemy and in their pursuit of victory had come very close to the city). The messenger does his best not to piss David off. He realizes that it is hardly worth it to anger the king (contrary to what Joab said). David's derangement As we read of King David's reaction to the messenger's news, we can hardly remain indifferent: Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Jo´ab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him. (2 Sam. 11:25)Here we can see the depth of David's confusion. On the one hand, he tries to convey his speech in such a way that the messenger does not understand what is going on between the king and the commander. But the king himself does not understand what is going on: he does not know that the commander has deliberately changed his plan in order to ridicule his reckless strategy. He was waiting for news that Joab had carried out his orders: to kill one Uriah. When he heard that the commander had “failed miserably” (instead of killing one Uriah, he allowed other soldiers to die), the king decided to encourage his commander. It is noteworthy that the author of Scripture does not tell us how the events unfolded: how the messenger reacted to David's words, how he returned to Joab, how they captured the city... But we, the readers, who realize the darkness of the events, understand one thing: David, instead of surrendering to grief and sorrow over the death of his loyal soldiers (as he had done before and would do in the case of Absalom's death), wants to encourage Joab. Instead of surrendering to anger at the commander who “badly” carried out an order, David encourages the one who, in correcting a flaw in the king's order, gives up his soldiers to die. Every sin darkens the mind. That is why we must not think: I will sin and then repent. We don't know what happens after we sin. It is likely that David too was justifying his desire to give himself over to lust. Perhaps he too thought that afterward he would repent and all would be well. He hardly thought about the fact that he would then kill Uriah and have his firstborn son by Bathsheba die. He did everything he could to make his sin known to as few people as possible. And that only led to everyone finding out about his sin. Sin is never worth committing. To paraphrase the apostle Paul, one of the Christian's mottos can be summarized as follows: “I will die, but I will not sin!” (Hebrews 12:4) Let us not forget that today's “petty idleness” can lead to a breeding ground for countless and shameful passions. For example, today's idleness can become shameful slander and gossip. And when we sin, we will immediately confess our sin, being broken and if possible mourning for what we have done. For the sin we have committed darkens our mind and corrupts our soul. Only sincere confession, brokenness, rethinking and change can restore the health of mind and soul after sin. My friend (around 1k hours) and I (around 2k hours) are tired of seeing survivors bringing escape cakes and getting 100k per match when we could be getting 250k. We're looking for two chill, experienced players (know how to loop decently, stay on gens, etc.) to stack bp offerings so we can all get max bp gains.
We use discord for text chat. We'll call out things sometimes during the match but otherwise we just try to play our best. We're not looking for people who rage or get pissy when people make mistakes. Complaining about getting camped/tunneled is okay, but just try to limit the toxicity.
